Here's a preview of today's episode. Very later, Talks to Nikki on the phone and she tells them she is planning to give her two weeks notice at their job. He overhears her saying, "She dropped a crystal necklace, don't a sewer drain." Very goes to a shop to buy her replacement necklace, but then see something called a One Wish Willow, which he also purchases. I think, did he even get the necklace? I think he, I was like, "Boy, that is the best move." You could have gotten her like this nice crystal necklace, a good gesture to show that you're replacing this thing, and he goes, "Yeah, you know what, I'll take that $6 stick." There, come on. There joins Nikki, Ian and Sarah, for trivia night. Afterward, Bear drops Nikki off at home and wants to confess his feelings to her, but he is too awkward. And he refers to her as "freaky Nick, a nickname she despises." When she asks Bear if he likes her, he just denies it. After Nikki goes back inside, Bear takes out the One Wish Willow and wishes for Nikki to love him more than anyone in the world. Nikki suddenly reappears and offers to go home with Bear, saying she feels bad because her dad is dying of cancer. When they get home, Nikki asks Bear to sleep with her, they start kissing until she suddenly pulls back in terror, claiming that there is something behind Bear. That was an interesting one. I was like, "What has she seen behind him?" Oh, that's something really interesting now in hindsight to assess, afraid of having seen it twice. What's your read on that scene? I think for me, it's just her snapping in and out of like the real Nikki and this big Nikki. She's being taken over by this big Nikki, but it's not a smooth transition. Okay, yeah. And I love that so much just because it adds so much more depth and it makes it less. I thought this movie would be solely anchored on. She is obsessed so she does these over-the-top things. There are a lot of over-the-top things that happen because the real Nikki comes back and snaps into place and is like terrified and then as we find out later on, you know what I mean? The real Nikki is suffering. Yeah. And so I love that and then I also do love this scene because it is the tension. You know, we've all been there. Like, I like this girl or I like this guy and sometimes you might even be friends and you want to tell them or whatever and then you might even have the opportunity, but you're just too scared to say something and he snaps the willow, makes the wish and then she just appears on the doorstep. Yeah, that shot was cool. The lighting, no lighting on her face and anything like that and it was such a great snap into where the movie is going and the craziness that all that all happens and I do love throughout the movie, how you don't see her face in some of these shots as she like switches, switches up the personalities and the tone shifts and everything like that. It just leaves so much more mystery to it. And even here, the way she moves is so aggressive and sporadic and her facial gestures as well. Yes. And I'm just like, oh, here we go. Yeah. And she's like, the acting is off to the races, bro. It makes everything. She snips snaps back and forth between two versions of herself so seamlessly. I totally agree. It's well done. I'm like, how did you do that all in one take? But also it sets you up to never know what to expect throughout the rest of the movie. She's not going to be in one lane. Is she going to jump in and out? But also like when she says she sees something behind him, I'm wondering if that's the, you know, air quotes, real Nikki seeing this like this force that is going to take her over and as she jumps back into her own body for just a split second if she's seeing it nearby. If that's like a glimpse of this, like, whatever's at play. But yeah, I'm with you. This is the first reference I'm picking up. Again, I don't want to rob Curry Barker of his, you know, there's inspiration, there's creative ideas and whatever. This is just me projecting my fandom on onto this. But I loved the reference to potentially sinners with the lighting of the eyes. The vampires had the special context to light their eyes up, but they used really, really dim close up light bulbs to when she's silhouetted and you can't see her face to at least give her the gleam of light in her pupils, which is also done in like graphic novels for terrifying monsters and people. I really like that. The lighting in this movie rips.

FAQs

A hopeless romantic, Bear, uses a mysterious One Wish Willow to wish for Nikki to love him more than anyone in the world. This leads to unexpected and terrifying changes in Nikki's behavior, revealing a dark and unstable transformation that threatens to consume her personality.

Nikki suddenly reappears and offers to go home with Bear, revealing she feels bad because her dad is dying. She then asks to sleep with him, but pulls back in terror, claiming she sees something behind Bear, indicating a possible supernatural or psychological shift.

The One Wish Willow allows Bear to make a wish, which triggers a powerful and unpredictable change in Nikki's behavior, leading to a split between her real self and a more aggressive, over-the-top version of her personality.

The movie deliberately avoids showing Nikki's face in key scenes, instead using shadows and lighting to create ambiguity. This allows the audience to never know whether they're seeing the real Nikki or a distorted, alternate version of her, building suspense throughout the film.

The film uses dim, silhouetted lighting to highlight the eerie, monster-like qualities of the alternate Nikki, drawing parallels to graphic novels and vampire tropes where eyes glow in the dark, reinforcing the sense of danger and otherworldliness.

The show suggests it's both—there's a clear psychological breakdown, with Nikki snapping between her real self and a monstrous version. However, the film leaves it ambiguous whether the transformation is purely mental or influenced by a supernatural force tied to the willow.
