Prepping for labor: What's in my hospital bag & 5 Things Worth the $$$

Abby reflects on her pregnancy and birth journey with honesty, humor, and emotional depth. She shares her hospital bag preparation, emphasizing personal comfort items like a heating pad, sleep masks, and sound machines, while expressing regret over the lack of whimsy and soothing lighting in hospitals, which she believes significantly affects mood. She recounts a stressful experience with hospital staff, including a dismissive nurse, and highlights the importance of personal agency and dignity during labor. Abby also shares her journey of misreading contractions, feeling overwhelmed by false alarms, and eventually gaining confidence in her body’s signals. A major theme is the emotional impact of personal traditions—like watching movies before birth—and how films like *Odyssey* offered both entertainment and emotional insight. She also discusses a viral video where an ex-husband lists the sacrifices he made, which she finds both poignant and funny, illustrating the emotional toll of long-term relationships. Abby underscores the value of personal empowerment, from financial education for her children to the growing relevance of social media and content creation degrees in modern careers. Her reflections weave together practical preparation, emotional resilience, and a deep appreciation for autonomy and self-care throughout pregnancy and beyond.

I want to bring those birth coms at the doula gave me lost them. They're gone so good. I'm just gonna get an epidural I told Matt I was like you can't even bring a camera. Everyone films their birth. No every time they've gotten really mad at us Abby, that was a bad hospital hospital regrets. No whimsy. Where is the whimsy in the hospital lighting really changes my mood. Just turn on a lamp for heaven's sake Welcome back to always here. We're your host Abby Howard and Abby Howard. It's good to be here. It's good to be back. It's good to be back 20 minutes ago and now I'm back. 20 minutes ago. Let's see if a swim. I know. Sorry. That's true. I thought I didn't really confuse me. Yeah, it confused me too I was like how do I get home and then get back and then but I'm here. You're shaking. I was late. Thank you. Thanks. You are not that late. Then I want denim Is it working here earlier for her sons from lessons. Yes, I beat the teacher that never happens But I thought a lot of pressure. I'm like he's the first one of the groups of relate everyone's pushback. Yeah, because they're only 20 minutes It's good accountability. Um, yeah, we are here to share the hope in the hard with heart and humor Yeah, we are on in your life. Well, my hope is that swim lessons are kicking up. I love Swim lessons our pool is 95 degrees. Yes, but you know at me and Vity put her feet in and we were sitting there and watching and it was fine We're under the shade little fan gun. It was fine. It was hot, but it wasn't as hot as when we did the evening times not refreshing No, why does it feel hotter at nighttime? Well, when we did the 4 p.m I was like this actually unsafe for me to sit out here with Vity and I'm like we can't have to do that again So I took the earlier time. Oh, it's coming side. Yeah, I know, but I don't want to intrude every time I also do need to say you can see our pool the entirety of it from our entire living space Yeah, people were kind of concerned that we don't put a life vest on pretzel We're not I did see those tech those comments and I've never heard of such a thing for a dog I'm like, well, we have full visibility on her like the entire time, but even if not She does it all day long. She knows where the steps are to get out. I don't know. I just was like what would happen? She could cramp and stuff She just honestly sit hangs out in the ball shop and the hot dog Yeah, I didn't know we had to have eyes on her dogs the same way we did her kids. I know it's not the same way I was like anyone says that the same way that is crazy. Yeah, I was like that just seems a little I don't know I figured she could swim. She's good. She's an adult this way and then also we have full visibility But yeah, so you could definitely come inside. Yeah, he's with a swim instructor. Yeah, he is. Yeah, he is okay Well, I just feel bad. Oh, I don't feel bad. I know, but you know, you're just intruding. It's a couple times a week So anyway, I'm really excited. That's hopeful for me. She just been getting really good at swimming My dad did try to sabotage his lessons and teach him the doggy paddle when we were in town and I was like Dad, you know, you're teaching a bad form. So glad we're working that out He's sinking. I'm like dad. That's the we're not working on that, but we're not gonna do that He was well-intentioned but wrong form. So it's been fun to watch What was your heart or should I do my hope? No, do your hope my hope is that I'm a good candidate for a V back I know we've already kind of talked about this, but I feel like with each appointment. They're just like yeah Everyone on everyone here agrees. Yeah, I think good So that's good because my doctor could potentially be out of town So I just want to make sure that everyone was like the team's all on board. Yeah Because this is actually I'm proud of my body for progressing to this point because I don't really think this happened other times but I've been sitting out of four centimeters and Like I'm just like waiting now. I know so I'm like it's kind of like I have a fast pass for birth, right? I'm so sorry I really last week was like for sure is happening and here we are six days later It's actually really common and you know He had me really with like your third Okay, you know what I mean? Yeah third or fourth they He had me so convinced last night I like I started to feel like the boy who cried wolf like I feel stupid No, but like last night he really had me so convinced because the whole movie They were consistently eight to ten minutes apart and getting stronger for three hours. Wow So I was like, okay, this is this is probably yeah, I've been fooled before. I've been so many times before actually not even fool Because I'm like I'm not gonna leave this. I'm not gonna leave this That's how I was like kind of get because some of them were getting like stronger. Yeah, painful. Still never painful And so then I was like well never mind Everybody I'm just an idiot. I mean you do feel contractions. You're not idiot. No, that one really was like That was a really good tease there like I'm like I'm not just you're like this is it That was the thing that was the thing that it's gonna do and then it'll not stop we have this tradition Where we try to go see a movie before every birth. So before Griffin. We saw light-year So bad, but you know what before awgging she did we saw Barbie and that was also Terrible. Yeah, it was horrible. You like daddy. Yeah, I thought it was cute. Seriously. I mean It's so cute. Yeah, it was creative, but I just thought it was the cheesiest movie of all time Well, they were also making fun of pregnant Barbie the whole time Yeah, we're pregnant really active. I got induced that weekend. What we saw it's I was like actively having contractions You know what you did tell me afterwards? You're like my contractions are one minute apart after Barbie. Yeah I actually don't know if they ever get that They weren't even they weren't even painful. I remember just being like, oh my gosh No, that's the thing it just gets it'll the first will confuse you so confusing and then it actually only gets more confused Yeah, what then you're like you actually feel like you know this hurts while you're doing or what it takes back No, just sweat. It's just more music. We didn't see one before Vivian, but we brought back the tradition did we not? I don't think so. That was a whole that season was so busy Yeah, but yeah, we saw Odyssey last night. Oh, that was my heart But yeah, I really told Caleb I wouldn't okay. I've told Caleb. I wanted to see the Odyssey Yeah, cuz he was cuz he's the one it was really sweet He was when he's like okay, you're about to have a baby like we needed to see our movie He's been bringing that up like once at least twice a week which is really sweet Yeah, and so I was like what about the Odyssey and then I was like, but Abby won't want to see that and he goes no I think she'd like it and I was like Just think she'd love it and then I was like I don't and then you're like yeah, I don't mind violence No, I don't mind violence that didn't bother me and then air you didn't like actually maybe it did kind of bother me There were plenty of times. I was like some of the scenes in that movie. I Could not watch it's not for the girl easy. It was the pig scene. Addy that was disgusting. I looked away That wasn't CGI That was like they had like molds of and there was like a clay maker that like wow That's amazing. You know, it's like robots. Yeah, we'll get into the whole movie, but that was a little bit matter Just the first hour and a half. I was like this is hard. This is the loudest movie I've ever been in My ears hurt and I just want to leave and this guy's training into a pig I don't understand and then like after an hour and a half and I was like I clicked and said oh is Greek mythology Like I didn't get ever that long The names did it Zeus. I was like, why did not why is it not real like when the giant came in? I said a giant What is this movie like he's sitting? This is real life. This is a historical event. No, I was actually been around So long the Bible. I know I know and I read it in school. I don't remember any of it. I agree I feel like I definitely got humbled by some of the things. I was like oh, yeah We'll talk more about it You tell me your heart and then my heart is I just have actually no motivation. Perfect I got remember I had low e. Yes low p Not low m m all-time low. Yeah, I don't blame you It is not there like I'm like like I want to make plans because I'm like I don't want to just sit around and just total my thumbs and wonder when I'm gonna go into labor I'm also like but really why? Yeah, we go and do that And that's not normally me Yes, I think you're like please gripping please. No, I was a kid's eyes. Please. I don't want to go I was like a bag of you He did ask me to jump. I said do you see that sign right there? It literally there is a sign that says pregnant women cannot jump I was like perfect. This was my safety. It's a legal. I don't want to I can't do in that You guys have trampolines growing up in your backyard? No, I'm afraid of them. Oh, okay, everyone you won't have this short experience then I remember I did at my friend's house though. Well, like we had a lot of trampolines and I will give it to my parents We just got trampoline after trampoline. I think they're broke every time they broke or a tornado or winds flew it over A tree fell on one, you know, oh thanks, but just asking my parents to jump on the trampoline with me When we were old enough that they didn't They did sometimes and sometimes they didn't so that's one thing I think about I'm like My kids start asking me to do things. Oh my gosh I've been asked the day to climb up this massive Rope thing and I was like buddy. I just And then he was like, but please mom. We have to do it. You're braving. You're strong Which is what I always tell him he's like if you feel scared just tell yourself you're braving your strong I was like, oh gosh, I'm not scared buddy. I'm I've low M. I climbed it - Oh, the M.I. had. - And do some-- - Do some, too. - That's impressive. - That took all the-- - Yeah, I know. Coach, she's walked over and I think everyone was like, "Why did she do it?" - So irresponsible. - They're like, "Oh, she went up there." And I was like, "Don't look at me up here." I'm just sitting there at the top of this, like-- (laughing) - You're like, "Don't let-- don't let me come down." - And I was actually like, "We might need to call "the fire to burn." - How do you get down? - How do you get down? - The girl was like, "Trying to coach me through it." - Like, "One foot here, Mama." - It actually hurt so bad on my feet. - This is so niche, but my feet on those ribs, I'm like, "Have so much weight on me." And like, all just on this little foot-- - Oh, man. - They can't do it. - The foot pain in my last two weeks of pregnancy at both times has been unbelievable. - Somehow I still have ankles, so-- - Yeah, you look good. - I lost my ankles after birth. - Oh, that's true, they come through this so much stuff. That did happen to me, too, both times. I'm just not gonna look down there. - Well, should we talk about the honesty? Go back to it because we all saw it last night. Addy and Blake saw on IMAX, which is apparently a kind of 70 millimeter. (laughing) - Yeah, I saw the weight as in screen size. - Did you see a thing afterwards like if the comparison was-- - Someone showed me, 'cause they were like trying to justify why they saw in IMAX. And I was like, it was just a little bit more. - I kept thinking, thank goodness I didn't see this in IMAX. - I didn't feel like it probably wasn't any louder. I don't see-- - It's just more screen. - It's just big, big screen, and we're in the third row. - Like, it's not like they stretched it. Like, they filmed extra. - That's cool. - That's like a niche film thing. - Yes, you saw more of the actual movie. - Oh, that's cool. - It was a smaller. - I got to your response, it wasn't just extended. - Oh, okay, that's really cool, actually. I didn't know that. - And they filmed it on a cool camera. - How's your neck? - My neck is fine. I am interested to watch the movie again from a different angle. - View point, maybe from my home on my TV. - You're gonna watch it again. - For free at some point. - All three hours. - I didn't feel like it was that long. Okay, I didn't, I think I enjoyed the sequence of, like, that there was thing after thing. I knew something different was coming. - It was entertaining. - Like, I knew something different was coming every time, rather than being like, where is this going? - No totally. - There was a journey to home. - Well, this story is amazing. And objectively, the movie is incredible. Like, no one could be like, that's a bad movie. It was an amazing movie. I just didn't like it. - I like to wear more than I do. - But it was an amazing, amazingly film. - I actually really liked it, but I'm weird. - I liked the last hour and a half of it. - I'm saying, I know that I liked it. It's not a genre I would normally like. I'm not into, like, Greek mythology, necessarily. Like, I don't know a lot about it. And I feel like I could have prepared myself better. - I think I should have. - I think I should have known a little bit. I think where I got a little confused was at the very beginning, the beginning exposition. I was like, why does he have to go? Like, I didn't realize that he was leaving for the Trojan War and that he, like, had to leave. Like, I couldn't, his motivation kind of got lost on me. I didn't understand, yeah, why they went to this war. They didn't really go into all that. - I kind of feel like I needed that. - But also, then we would have been so much longer. - Just a little exposition. - Yeah. - But I think that was on me for not remembering school. - Same. - I didn't remember it. I didn't know anything about it. I didn't know what I was walking into. What was your favorite place, or, like, scene of, like, the different places that they went on the journey? - Okay, the journey part of the movie, I didn't really enjoy. - Okay. That was the first hour of the movie. - No, no, no, I loved it when he got back and then his son went to go find him and then he was reuniting with Anhabi. The last hour and a half of the movie, I loved that part of it. And then when he started fighting all the suitors, sorry, we were giving spoilers, so we should get more of this movie. - It's been a long, it's been around since before the movie. - Okay, perfect. When he's, like, battling all the suitors, I literally went, yeah, like, I did that in the theater. - Yeah. - When he strung the bow. - Yes, that part, I was so, like, I loved all of that. So I would say the last hour and a half, but the journey part, I think, because I was so confused about what I was watching. I was like, by the way, it is a poem. - It is a poem. - It is a poem. - I also thought, I got frustrated 'cause I'm like, these people are so dumb. They keep going to the shores and seeing all these created creatures. I know, but there were obvious things, like when the lady told them to leave all their armor outside and they left there and saw all the other armor and they just didn't think to run for their lives. Some of that stuff, really. But I think that was the point. That's why they died, so. - They didn't, though. - All of them. - All the men. - The pigs? - No, like, but all of his crew did die. - Oh, yes. - 'Cause they were dumb. - Well, you know, they ate food. It really was just a singular mishap. (laughing) They weren't supposed to eat. - Well, they were, they were cursed by the gods. - Yeah, they were sited, mostly. - Mm-hmm. - Because that was his son, that he shot that arrow at and stabbed him in the eye. - Yeah, and when the world is Poseidon doing, give it making a Cyclops. - Yeah, that was all kind of lost on me a little. - Well, it's crazy. - That was crazy. - That was crazy. - Of all the adaptations of a Cyclops, I didn't picture it that way. - I think I always picture it kind of fat. - Yeah, that was a skinny Cyclops. - So skinny. - And also really human-like. - Yes, yes, it was very human-like. (laughing) - I don't know why. - That one apparently actually a robot as well. - And not a CV. - That's what I heard. - That's cool. - Because of his so impressive, and I think you could tell in the quality of the film, nothing that looked cheesy or over like fake. It all looked legit. - I liked the Trojan War part, and you looked at it afterwards and apparently, there's no proof at that, like the Trojan War. - It was real. - I still got that. - I was told that other people had this same question. I was asking Blake all the way home, I'm like, "Did that actually happen? "Is this just like Greek mythology?" - Yeah. - This is a historical event that this Trojan horse thing happened. - I think some people question if it. - I asked him. - There's no proof. - This says there's no solid proof that a literal giant wooden Trojan horse was real. - I liked that part. - I asked, killed that question too. - After we said no. - I asked Blake that, I said sometimes when I say stupid, like when I have a question that I feel like sometimes could be obvious, I always preface. This is a stupid question, please don't get annoyed. - But you know what, there was a horse that they don't shame people in back in the day, that would get hot. - Do you remember that? It was like a form of torture. - Oh, no. - Look it up, it's like a metal horse. - They'd put it on it, people'd put it on it. - They'd put people in it. - Man, they did some really crazy forms of punishment back then. - There was a lot of parts that triggered my claustrophobia in that movie. - Yes. - I was like, "Ah, I can't breathe." - What you were referencing is a brazen bull. - Brazen bull. - It is a hollow life-size statue made of brass or bronze with a door on the side. It is a metal punishment device. - Yeah, I would get super hot. - The fire, a large fire was lit underneath the statue, heating the bronze until the inside acted like an oven. - And then they would scream, and then it would sound like a bull. They would make that set. Yeah. - How do people even think of stuff like that? - Oh. - People can get-- - And people need to know that-- - That's what humans are capable of. - That's what we could do. - Yeah, we ain't-- - We're not better. - Anyway, this was such a long review if you haven't seen it. - How to wrap it up, what would you write the movie for like a grading scale? - Giving it like an A, A, B, C. - It's gonna win all the awards. It's gonna do all the awards. - Even though I didn't like it, I can't give it anything lower than an A because it was such a phenomenal storytelling, fantastic movie. I like it more than Matt, which surprised me a lot. I was like, I think Matt also just gets his expectations so high that he just like, it really affects his perception of it. I'm like-- - I got a adrenaline in the middle of it, and I started getting the adrenaline shakes. So, you know, it'll play with you a little bit. (laughing) - I think it won't be where they're eating. Seriously, my big ol' sandwiches are so funny. - Thank you to Ocea for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. That has what, let's look at the views now. It has 2.1 million likes and shoots. - It's like 60,000. - 13 million views. And it is titled, "My ex-husband gave me a list of things "he had to give up during our relationship "and she put give up in quotes." - Perfect, let's say. - And she is married, she's remarried now. She was also reading this list to her current husband for the first time. - Okay, I wanna watch it. - So I was just shocked by this, and I liked it, I wanted to show you guys. Number one, this is a text message he sent to her. So he wrote all this out and sent him. It was like, "Good, I agree, I stamped this approval." Okay, thanks that I've given up. One, every woman I could have had sex with since you and I got together. - Oh yeah, what a sacrifice. - He's serious, that was his number one. - That is his number one. - All the things that gave up all are married. - Sex with other women. - Of course you did that. - Sorry. - Why did you do that? - Sorry. - Of course. Number two, I gave up my free time during the week to work a nine to five so that we could get ahead financially. - What was he gonna do this time? - What was he gonna do otherwise? - But you weren't gonna work. Like she was just gonna be the sole provider, which isn't, I'm not saying anything. - Like he was gonna live his life. - Oh, this wasn't an extra job. He's saying I got a job. - I gave up all my free time during the week to work a nine to five. - It's like, what do you want someone to just do everything? - For you. - I had to get a job because of you. - For and for yourself. - Oh my god. - That's great. - Now all for her. - Not so that he could be free. - You made me get a job. Woman. (laughing) - Number three, I gave up saying out late as I wanted several times because you wanted to get home. (laughing) - She also says on the screen. She's like kind of talking through this too, giving more context, but she goes, legit almost every night he stayed out or made us stay out for hours. He would yell at me for wanting to go home and eat. - Oh. - Stand by that. - Good men don't yell. - Number four, I gave up just regular conversations with many women just so that you could have certainty that I wasn't even getting close to cheating on you. - This man, I think he cheated off. - I think he cheated off. (laughing) - Yeah, he said cheating. - She says in this too, she goes, she goes, because you were going to cheat on me with those women. (laughing) - Oh my god. - I will say, she's laughing about this too. So we're living at him, not her, five. I gave up watching whatever I wanted to watch many times to watch what you wanted to watch. - That is so hard. - Is that compromise or giving in? (laughing) - I went to the Odyssey last night, I was not excited to watch it. I liked it a lot. So there we go. - That's the list. - There's three more. - Okay, six. I've given up a lot of my time driving back and forth to see you throughout our entire relationship. They were long distance before and then they got married. She goes, we were married at that point. You weren't driving back and forth to. - Oh yeah, I have said that he drove to go see the person who's in love with. (laughing) - To back this one up, number seven. - Sacrifice Miles on my car. (laughing) - Oh no. (laughing) - She said I'll reimburse you, buddy. - I wish I could have my time back that little. - Oh my gosh, there's so many. I thought there was only this. There's more. - At least at 13. - I'll go through these a little quicker. Okay, eight. Actually had a car crap out on me while driving from your place. - So much about the car is really, he can't let go. - Number nine, money I could have spent on myself. - Yeah. - Okay. - Number 10, love I could have let for myself or others. - I don't know. - I don't think he's got that much love to give, honestly. - No. - I don't think that's. - No one wants his love. - I don't think that's his concern. Number 11, time doing whatever I wanted just to be with you. - That's a relationship that's hard. - 12, I've given up secrecy and told you everything. - I've given up. - He's definitely got so many lies. (laughing) - Sir, I think you're a liar. - I've given up secrecy. - I don't think you did. - 13, I've given up my pride to be honest and open with you. - I'm glad you put that on the internet. I hope that it's just pride. - 14, gave up acting like a jerk to be humble and studious to your family rather than prideful. - He wanted to be your dear family. - Yeah, what the. - Oh my gosh. - 15, I've given my whole life to you on our wedding day. - That's funny. - That's funnier. - 16, I've given up feeling good about myself in my life just because you said I wasn't doing good enough. - Well, that's sad. - Number 17, that was a choice. - But it also sounds honest. - Number 17. I could go on all day, but you get the point. - I could go on all day. - He really thought that was the one. - This man should never. This man is not meant to be married. - Because. - This is the best thing that could come of this. - Yeah. - He'll never have to be married. - He'll never have to do that again. - Because he'll never have the option. - Let me know if I was the worst wife ever. (laughing) - I just spent all my time with you. - And that sounds crazy, but I just feel like she can rest assured knowing like, you didn't have anything to save. Like with this guy, you. - There was no fixing this situation. - He didn't mean it's covenant. - No. - He didn't even know what his bow said apparently. - He didn't know what was going on. - And you can just rest assured that that one wasn't on you. - Yeah. - The comments on this are just so wonderful. Giving up my free time during the week to work on 95. 95 is the funniest way to scribe. Just normal employment. - Just getting a job. - Sorry, that did not clog the version. - That had 400,000 likes. - I feel like certainly I was like, "Trily has a job." - I was like, "It's another job." - No. - Things I gave up for you. - Being single. - Being single. - Yeah, that's literally everything. - Things I had to do because I was married. Spent time with my wife, work, drive, not cheat, and be a nice person. - Not cheat, certainly not cheat. - So it was a good way to say it. - I also divorced him. (laughing) - That dude. - That's hilarious. So is the video her reading it to her husband? - Yes. - That sweet. - He did it with his reaction. - He didn't really have any reaction. She just showed that he was sitting in it. That's also one of the top comments. It's like with my current husband, and it's like a cherry on top of a cake. - Oh. - It's like that sweet. - You got out of that. - You got out of that place now. - If I think you can sit there and laugh with your current husband that like, this is so ridiculous, it's great. - Yeah, I'm normally like not pro-divorced, but that man, that's, he was never married. - He was never married. - He was, he certainly didn't know about it. - He didn't know. - He said, what's a wedding? - You want to do one? - You want to do one when I be my wife? - Yeah, literally. - He didn't want to be a husband. - That was crazy. - So that was the thing. - When these things happen on the internet, I'm like, "Wow, it's crazy." I think that there are people like that. - That is crazy. Addy, thank you for sharing that. - Oh, okay. - I usually love reading the comments on stuff. - Oh, it was so good. - I'm always like, I'll send Kale videos and I said, "Read the comments." Read the comments, read the comments. - That's fun. - Something else that's crazy is that we live in Arizona, which is the location of the first, is this the first college that has offered an influencing major? - I know other colleges have social media majors. - Really? - I'm pretty sure. - Thank you to Cash Shop for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. Something Kale, when I've been talking about a lot recently is investing our money. It's a lesson that we learned at a young age, which I'm really grateful for and has benefited us now. Every week we have money that just automatically leaves our account. We can't even spend it, we're not tempted, and just watching that grow and build so that we could buy a car. A house, retirement down the line has been such a gift, and it's something that we're teaching our kids. Cash Shop actually now offers managed accounts for kids ages six to 12 that grow with them all the way to adulthood, all with no subscription fees, because building money habits shouldn't cost extra. The account runs through you as a parent, so you're not just watching from the sidelines, which I really like, you're actually in it with them, and that's it makes it a really cool teaching tool. Every time money comes in or goes out, it's a chance to talk about it together, and I think that's something that really sets our kids up for success in the future, is not just having these one-off conversations, it's a continued conversation throughout their childhood. You set the spending limits, and you can actually lock or unlock their cash out Visa card anytime from your own app, automate their allowance, and track the flow of money in and out together. Kids can start building real saving habits early by earning interest on savings. So as the parent, when you're explaining the difference between spending now versus saving for later, they can actually see their money grow. It's structured independence, they get real life practice with money, and you're right there with them through every stage. If you're ready to start teaching money habits without adding more stress to your plate, download CashUp and set up a managed account for your child today. For a limited time, new CashUp customers who are parents can use our exclusive referral code, Family10, to earn $10. Download CashUp and to the referral code in your profile, send $5 to a friend within 14 days, and you will receive $10. Terms apply. CashUp is a financial services platform, I'm a bank, banking services provider, I'm a CashUp bank partner. It's pre-paid debit cards issue by sent bank. Remember FDIC, CashUp Visa debit cards issue by sent bank. Remember FDIC, the bank core bank, and they pursuant to a license from Visa USA, and exchange terms and conditions for a sent-and-prepaid card, debit cards card, and bank core bank cards card. It is offered by CashUp, a blocking for parents, and legal guardians can open a managed account for kids' six to 12 visit, CashUp.app/legals, CashUp.app/legal. My take is that the name is the worst thing about this, but I do think that this actually makes more sense looking at it. It says yes, Arizona State University is the first large university to introduce an official bachelor's degree specifically designed for content creation and social media influencing. Cool. That's really cool. Maybe the other company, whether colleges or more social media marketing for companies, maybe more so. Can you look up what the coursework is? Because at first when I saw this headline, my initial-- I have to be honest, my initial impulse reaction was like, that is so dumb. But then I was like, wait a minute. That's actually not that dumb. When I looked into the coursework of it, or just set it in the caption, it had like legit things that I actually could have used that, you know what I mean? I mean, it makes sense that they're creating majors like this, just the way of the internet is changing a working landscape fully. And this was really cool just going off of social media jobs. Oh, I found it. I saw this smaller creator. She shared things that she does for, like, side hustles to make money through social media. She made $3,100 a month. months, like this past month, filming Amazon review videos and then putting them on Amazon. Not on our own pages, but she got paid for making review videos for Amazon, almost like a UGC type of, like you generated content, but I'm like, wow, that's so interesting. And no one knows about that or talks about that. So she's just cool hearing about these different ways to look at the money. Yeah, it's content strategy, brand partnerships, audience growth, entrepreneurship, digital marketing, analytics, and monetization with the goal of preparing graduates to build sustainable careers online. Awesome. I was like, actually when I read that, I was like, that's actually really cool and valuable because before I was like, oh, like you can just do it yourself. And then I was like, you know what? I probably could have, you know, not struggled so much for a little bit like that. This is actually really valuable. And also like I feel like you go to college to learn a skill to make money from where I'm like, you're actually more likely to make money doing this than like me who was in acting major for a little bit there, like that wasn't gonna make me a better return on your investment probably. Yes. Yeah, yeah, totally. And so I was like, you know, there's a lot of degrees out there that are maybe it's up in the air or there's an argument around whether or not they're valuable degrees in the sense of like, you'll make your return on your investment, like for the coursework. This one actually I'm like, that's not, that's not crazy at all. No, totally. And so I'm like, you know what? I support this. I support it. It's really impressive. They did this so quickly created this because when I was in college, so I graduated in 2018, I was at the start of Mizzou's entrepreneurship program. They didn't even have an entrepreneurship program. Yeah, I remember when that was like, uh, the big thing. Yeah, like that's crazy. It was kind of cutting it. Yeah. Yeah. And that was kind of, you know, how much it's changed at this time. I'm curious if more universities are picking up. Yeah, I'm curious. They're capstone projects instead of like a traditional thesis is to write or to choose a social media platform of their choice, implement a growth strategy, publish original work, and graduate with measurable proven audience growth. I'm so curious about that because I do think there is a mix of dedication and knowing how to make content. And there's also a mix of luck of like videos taking off and doing different things. So I'm curious to see how that grows with it all. Yeah, interesting. Well, also if they're just starting out, there are so many years, I feel like of trial and error, you know. And so trying to fit that into a semester of capstone project, you're not really giving yourself time to make bad videos. But you'll learn all the back-end side that you don't, a lot of influencers don't know or didn't know when they started and you had to learn as you go versus you're learning at first. And then you are prepared for when you do beyond that if they're the people could, I could easily see people going into this program, not necessarily wanting to be the public figure themselves, but like, there's so many careers in social media now, literally my own brother, like, who never would have ever wanted to be an influencer, you know what I mean? Like is literally working in social media solely for a company, yeah. Yeah. And to understand attention and, and would benefit from all, would have benefited from all these courses in his career, in his job now. For sure. So I'm like, actually, that's actually really cool. Yeah, super cool. Good job, ASU. I'm just worried about all the parents that are probably having a hard attack right now. Like, I just wanted to do something practical. Well, I just feel like this is the new landscape from advertising, you know, and I think that's how I've described people. I'm like, I just, I make ads, like, I'm an advertiser for companies, but there's like- When people ask me that- A livestock component too. Kind of. I'm like, they're not going to necessarily- You'd just say you're in marketing. Yeah. Uh-huh. I've said that before too, to like older people. I do marketing. Um, yeah, I think that's really interesting and fun. I'm curious if they have like a psychology class in there, maybe how to deal with public opinion and on your mental health aspect of it, you know, putting your life out there. A psychology course called Interpersonal Influence. Okay, so they have something. Something. That's cool. Because I feel like that is a thing where a lot of people feel very attached to you and understanding that relationship and how that works too is- Navigating those. Yeah. Interesting. Interesting. That's crazy. That is crazy. I'm like, can we like be a keynote speaker? Is it going to be so funny? Any guest speakers? We have it. We have it. Come sit in it. I'll always hear. We will host a course today. Anybody want an unpaid internship? I think that would be so funny. Like they have this like structured class thing and then we're like- I don't know. I don't know. This is how we start a lot today. Yeah, they're doing like professional things. Like, well, let me just fill myself doing some laundry and then- I feel like half the minute on one of our planning calls for a podcast episode. Yeah. You get a dental word. I was feeling like- I was feeling a cavity. And like sitting there like this. What's amazing. This is- Abby's last episode- Abby's being influenced to go to the hospital soon. Not everything has returned to this game. So we thought it'd be fun to do a what's in my hospital bag segment for Abby. Yeah. And I'll pitch in and to share some of the things that I put in mind. I could use some tips because I actually are bag. We're sharing a duffel bag and it's not full. No, I didn't pack a lot. I packed almost nothing. Yeah. Yeah. So please give me some tips. About to bring. Yeah, actually, I have- This is my list. Okay, read it off. Well, okay, I had it in different categories. Right. And I did this because we were making a video of it, but otherwise my bag wouldn't be packed right now. It's cool. They don't want it. I love the work of accountability for things. Well, this is how it started off with. Um, this is the labor category. And I had- I was like, I want to bring those birth coms at the duly gave me lost them. They're gone. Good. I'm just going to get an epidural. You can laugh. Convenience. I think. I don't need them. Oh my gosh. Don't need Amazon. I promise. Give it the epidural. I'm sure that one has some. I got some. I honestly texted her and I was like, "Oh my gosh. I'm sure." And I was like, "Oh, bring some." And I was like, "It's okay." No, but then I was like, "Just go ahead and bring 'em because it's all my list." Yeah. And I just want to- Let's throw it in the bag. Have it in there. Um, do we really- Okay. This is something I brought- I'm bringing this time that I'm not- I haven't brought before. It was a heating pad. Because- What a good idea. Um, I do feel like, on your lower back, that'd be kind of nice. Did it have those at the hospital? I actually don't think they do. Oh, okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. This is something I brought- I'm bringing this time that I'm not- Did it have those at the hospital? Oh, it did. I imagine they probably have them, but it's never been something that was like offer to me. It's probably not a consistent one. It's probably like the crack one's upset. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Um, other things. I brought headphones, sleep masks, hair accessories, string lights. Didn't bring those before. But you're gonna see why. Excuse me. You're gonna see why. I brought- I want to bring them. That is so extra I know, but I wanted to bring them. Um, cards. Oh, we got these cards from Ardula of, like, things for- Uh, Matt to say. That's fine. We're gonna- Please, this is my plug to go listen to the unplanned episode. I gave Matt a whole pep talk. Like a football coach of like what I wanted and what we didn't want. And- Yeah. I think it was really good for us. It was so funny. The E was really low with it. Abby started talking about- She's like, look at me and the E went up. I was like, I'm motivated now because I don't want you to do stuff. When I'm in labor. Uh, water bottle and grip socks. Okay, here's the thing. They already have grip socks there, but I have little feet. They have the big water bottles too. Uh, yeah, they do have those. Okay, I didn't need to bring that. Gosh dang it. Um, for me personally, I like to bring my own breastfeeding pillow and my own pillow. I'm bringing nipple shields because no one's ever offered me one, but I love them. Uh, a pumping bra and a slash nursing bra. I feel like that's kind of necessary. I've got to keep those tight. Uh, PJs and outfit to go home in. I brought my own toiletries, charger, Kindle, um, stool softener. Yeah. I don't- They gave me some of the hospital, but- I needed more. Yeah. Let me see. And, uh, shower shoes, but I actually think they're just going to be the shoes that I wear to the hospital. Yeah. And my makeup. Hey, you should 100% wear tennis shoes to the hospital. I walked four miles. My goal is to wait and time and excruciating pain. Yes. I thought I was. And then I walked in there and they're like, you're smiling. And I was like, but it hurts. Like, laps. I walked for two hours. I was an excruciating pain. They said, walk. Can I say? What do you mean? Yeah. Okay. We're tennis shoes. We're tennis shoes. Um, I don't know. They might take it a little. I'm already at four. Yeah. You might be able to throw away. They're trying to get you from a 405. Okay. For Matt, I said he's bringing a pillow blanket, snacks, charger, an outfit. Maybe I just like set all of his tech stuff. We're all just bringing an extension cord. He's not bringing it. I didn't put speaker. You're going to have your noise canceling headphones on. Yes. You can't even hear Matt's pet talk. I don't want to hear it. Matt's going to be in there like so quiet in here. You're like, no, the last, no, I had not the kind of music. I listened to like worship music and hit no breathing. And that really helped. That's awesome. I literally was like worship music and then Drake go back to worship music. Me goes, okay. I need to know music and didn't even cross my mind to put music. To put music. I told myself I would. And then when I was in labor, I was like, it's because of my app that our world worked. And I was just like, yeah, you're just chilling. And I was just chilling the whole time. Yeah. Yeah. Power strip, sound machine, slash light for like the baby and sleeping and stuff. Air pods, computer, camera, toiletries. Yeah. For the baby, literally don't have much at all. I just said a onesie, a take home outfit, coconut oil for the bum. This is my biggest tip. I feel like someone told us this before we had our first name. It was really, really helpful. But coconut oil. on their little bum because they have that really sticky black tar poop and for our boys like they did it multiple times and it was just so sad already changing their diaper and scrubbing their little fresh skin and so we just like to put that on their bum before they have that mark I never change any of those kill boys did the black yeah mad change yeah so I know how we've handled them I guess fine I was told that and we brought aqua for perfect I do want I do like to bring my own swaddle because I don't like to hand manual do that and passies because I don't like the ones at the hospital well they don't like the ones at the hospital yeah but like what am I forgetting underwear I didn't bring any I didn't bring any postpartum care no because I just used everything at the hospital I was thinking like you actually usually you'd pack underwear on a trip you just wear a diaper or do you have the little pads to put in your bras for leaking I thought about that I can bring some but I feel like they have this at the hospital I didn't get any at the hospital okay I'll bring those yeah that was I feel like I brought that for postpartum I brought a lot of people are bringing the freedom of mesh underwear I didn't like those I didn't just use the ones at the hospital yeah and then save and then use those your diaper when you run out because you're so extra heavy too at the hospital why ruin your own stuff I'd be so honest with you there you actually when you really think about it you don't need to bring anything no you don't just like except your insurance card yeah literally and maybe it's gonna close the change into yeah I like to bring the register at the hospital I did forget to do that so now I'm registered oh you little just call right you're like hey no I had to do a form that he did it facts oh interesting I've never had to do that I know I was like I don't want to fix my screen yeah I don't think you're missing anything perfect yeah I feel like for a C.J. I brought a ton of stuff like I brought oh I had a full suitcase both times yeah before this yeah and with Vivian I literally just had some clothes for me stuff to shower in and then I had her swaddle sound machine and toiletries basically and that was it I even know what we had I just know I didn't need it yeah what are the string lights for oh okay so we had on here we're talking about hospital regrets uh-huh I regret not having any whimsy in my hospital because I was getting really depressed in there oh okay just really fast and I was like I want some lighting really changes in my mood it's something that is just like if I'm in harsh lighting I'm mad I don't know why okay and I'm sad like it's one of those and the hospital light is just like that LED like and then when I remember when they'd come in and like do stuff with the baby they're turning on the lights I'm like just look just turn on a lamp for heaven's sake and so to plug in the string lights on the wall please no it's gonna it has a battery oh like they I could literally just leave them on yeah and I feel like he'll make me happier cute I love that that's their $10 on Amazon why not yeah hospital regrets no whimsy where is the whimsy in the hospitals we need a little whimsy I need a little mood boost I love that I mean I love that yeah but I get people hate on that I'm like why not why not yeah people like you don't do all that they don't need all that but who cares if you want to do it yeah they're the one packing it and bringing it home it's not a big deal so many snacks bring so many snacks really yes oh yes because you're gonna be there a long time I packed I got a big ol shopping bag of stuff from Trader Joe's for Caleb and then I ate it after birth to I always just ate the hospital food but just snacks you know it's like this in between stuff you know you're starving and sometimes you get birth at a time where restaurants aren't open what you did such didn't expect in the hospital I think I packed a lot of entertainment and then I end up never using either any of it for both babies CJ we did a little bit more because I was in the hospital so long after birth we did watch shows on our computer more but with Vivian we were there such a short time I barely like just so we were waiting to get discharged we pulled up and watched a show on our computer otherwise we were in labor mode and we weren't using anything to entertain so I feel like that was something that I didn't expect I thought we'd have a lot more downtime even with the epidural but when you're down you're just trying to sleep so yeah no entertainment really necessary I did I did you bring my tripod you have a tripod in there and your microphones because I filmed a lot of content no I feel embarrassed about that oh why fun it's so fun but Caleb and I always have fun doing that after birth videos I think our nurses were really pissed off your hospital was mean my nurses I mean we didn't do when the nurses ran there no but I just didn't want to make any I didn't want there to be any hoopla hoopla because I was I had one nurse I was like really yeah I've been scarred for like I mean you need to fire your nurses if they're bad you can do that you can ask for no my doctor yelled at her yeah I just said I don't want her in here anymore yeah I don't know that I'm making the assumption that it was because she like thought that but so I have no idea I honestly wasn't even really aware that she was being mean I wasn't aware of much and so but it wasn't until afterwards I was like man wait a minute right it we got into our like recovery room right before shift change so we met a nurse and I was like this is it I was not vibing with her and then it was shift change and the new nurse came in and I was like oh you were in Asia so happy yeah about shift change well this is really prideful this is really prideful and you can clock me from wrong I'm a great patient I'm nice I'm normal yeah I'm a normal person and so if you're rude that's on you and I don't want you around I wasn't talking to her I was like it's not me I'm a great patient I was like I'm not talking I'm not bothering you yeah yeah I don't know what's going on I'll just never forget I was getting this is when I like started to come to more because he had already come out but she was stitching me my doctor was and then she needed to take him out and redo them and I was in a lot of pain even just for stitches like I could feel a lot yeah and so then I was like really watching the clock I was like how much longer is I also was like didn't feel like I could hold my son because I was like in so much pain and then my my they finally let my mom in and my mom's like what took so long and I was like and then Matt goes yeah it took like 40 minutes for them to do her stitches because they had to do them twice and the nurse chirps up not even involved in the conversation she says it did not take 40 minutes I would have I remember all of us there were like who were you didn't not say yes it did yeah and then also you guys came in you and Caleb came in right before like there was gonna be no more guys and she was like you guys really got to get out of here she was like kept shoving you guys out and I know you guys have rules but I'm like we have just labored for 27 hours yeah and like we're not gonna be able to see you guys all night like just chill ma'am on your policy just for a minute I didn't like the husband and when you said you were delivering Augie there too it was like please switch hospital I know I know and I blood is different it is different but yeah no no who lied told me I was like you can't even bring a camera in he's not even wearing a camera so you having your doula take pictures and stuff just on the phone yeah yeah you're gonna film recorded his her his or her birth I don't know gender is birth I don't know if we're gonna I don't know you should even if you don't ever post it just I just am so afraid of them getting upset because a lot of hospitals have policies about filming no they always are everyone films are birth no every time they've gotten really mad at us Abby that was a bad hospital okay yeah we didn't have any issues no the nurse I was like do you want me to film and take pictures I wasn't gonna record it and no one said a thing no one said a word no we didn't have that I see section in there like do you want us to take a video of the birth no they kept telling us to put your phone away I could see that in an operating room I could see that but in your delivery no no no we knew that we couldn't they had already told us before we went in the operating room you just had to ask I think I asked my doctor like is it okay during the birth if I just set up a video like out of the way I phone just so we can have the video for our memory yeah and your hospital has a different policy no I think they had the no phone policy but we just asked and they were fine with it I think they just have that reliability purposes yeah and it makes sense yeah that's what I'm just like so afraid of upsetting people yeah she was like if something goes wrong we're gonna turn it off I was like that's fine anyway no cameras I just was like no cameras no mics no tripods yeah thank you to Shopify for sponsoring this portion of today's episode if you've been sitting had. That's what Robo's so good." And then every meal subsequently was so bad. So they got me starting food. Yeah, good food. If anything, there was good food. I've actually typed this message multiple times and never sent it to you. What is your preferred after-birth meal? Because you brought me one that I'm like, "I have to know it." Oh, yes, it is. The whole verse I brought. I feel like Culver's is the after-birth meal. This is what I was thinking. I should've asked you to bring you Culver's and I need to bring Matt Chipotle. We're solid and go. We're solid and go. We're solid and go. I'm good. I don't know who it is. Those are both points. What did you say? Matt, I got a fight over Chipotle. Chipotle and Culver's. Just so you're both happy. No, that's weird. You're not one to different places. And it's Culver's. You did bring Culver's and it was amazing. It just tastes so good after. You know, whatever. I'm grateful for anything. Honestly. But it's just a tradition thing. But you're cool to become birthday. Yes, I actually just thought about it. This is the first time I've had a kid and everyone's lived here. Yeah, it'd be so fun. You have this bad guy cry. If you have his baby, well, I've got it. Oh. But it's okay. Your doctor will be gone too. Yeah. She's getting on. You're like, you're like, I don't want to have this. I've got to suck up. I've got to suck. I think that's Friday. Thursday. Thursday. I'll be back Wednesday. Oh, it's like a leak. I'm sorry, Adi. It's okay. I said this to Abby too. I said, she missed my wedding for Griffin's birthday. I can miss the birthday. Talks about it so seriously. She's like, Adi really doesn't want you to have the baby. Thursday through. When are you coming back? Tuesday. What did you guys also prefer to be there? Yes. For sure. I was like, I will try my best. I'm not seriously going to. No, I'm not going to. At this rate, he is very comfortable in there. So. We need to do another video. I will be FaceTiming itself. We did that video to induce Adi. We should do a video to a new CEO. This is crazy. Well, that's awesome. I feel like you have your things that are worth it for you for birth. And our next segment. I could totally mess it up. I don't have like a great track record with my hospital experiences. Yeah, I know. I'm excited. There's going to be redemption. I think it's going to be amazing. I think it really will. Okay. Our segment today is five things that are worth the money. Have you guys seen this internet trend? No. But when you guys tell me about it, I like the idea a lot. Yes. Five things that are worth the money. I've been watching all these videos every time one pops up. Are they like talking about it? Yeah. I'm like, what are their five things? You know? Actually, I didn't see one about baby products. Yeah. And they're different genres. But in general, the trend in five things were the money. I didn't know baby products. I didn't either. Okay. We just did that. Yeah, we just did that. We just did that. And then on Patreon, because it's already getting long, we're going to do five things, not worth the money. Perfect. Okay, perfect. Okay, let's start with the things that are worth our money. What's your number one? I said our pool. Oh, I know that was like very, like that is. It was a lot of money, but I really believe that was 100% worth the money. Yes. And every single day, and we have people over in it. There's people in our pool right now that I don't even know who's in it. They're doing swim lessons with their kids. Yeah. And I just feel like that was just a really good, it gives me a lot of confidence living in Arizona. At first, I thought it was like more of a scary thing. Obviously, it is a scary thing. You have to take it really seriously. But I feel really confident with our kids as swimmers now, because we are able to be in it so often. Totally. And obviously, that's not a realistic thing for everyone, but for us. That was a purchase that we were like, and then we were like, I'm 100% glad we did that. Yeah. Yeah. I am too. Me too. Me too. We love your pool. We don't need a pool. You just need a friend with a pool. Exactly. Exactly. It's been a blessing to all of everyone in your life. So I would agree that's been a great purchase. My number one is my Honda CRV. Now, I personally did not purchase this car. You're like, Mom and Dad, this has been a worth of money. Mom and Dad, I love you so much. Thank you for my Honda CRV. They gifted me this car when I was 15 years old. Wow. I'm 30. I've had this car 15 years. Thank God. This car is an '09. This car is actually old miles around the car. About 160,000. I guess it's not worth. I know, but when I drove it, like pretty much all in high school, and then even after college, I only drove it in the suburbs, you know, just around small areas. So I was never, I wasn't taking it too far. But it's been the most reliable car and it's such a gift. So if you're in the market, it's a great car. And actually, it's a great car now for two kids. I think when we have a third kid, we obviously will outgrow the car. But the trunk space is amazing. You can fit two car seats in there and the third person in between them, if you need. And it's compact. It's cute. The gas isn't crazy. And it's so reliable. It's been the best car ever. You're taking real good care of it. Thank you. Can I say this or is it going to be? Yeah. I'm not offended. No, I just amiding to come out with the patch job on it. I was actually just thinking about that too. I know that you're, that's my journey. Caleb, a long time ago when we lived in Kansas City, backed my car up into like a dumpster and a shatter, it punched in a big hole in the back of the car. And so he suctioned the whole out, but then the paint all got ripped off. Kind of suctioned them. Yes. It's not smooth. And then he tried to repaint it, but when he repainted it, he bought their two versions of this blue and won his electric blue. He bought that one. And it was like this literally neon blue patch on the back of the car. I appreciate it. Because I know that it's you. I mean, too. Yeah. I was like, you got it on Sunday when we were, because I think we were parked behind you when you were leaving. And I was like, it's so sweet to me. I was like, look, I kind of smile and laugh. I'm like, he really did his best. It's like a perfect little square. He really did. He taped it off. It's like the perfect edge. It's like maybe a little bit more noticeable than before. It's totally so much better. We just got it tinted too. It took 15 years to tint the car. It was literally just, I mean, the windows, it was like a fish bowl. Yeah. And we would just cook in that car. The tinting has been life changing. I said, I could keep this car 10 more years. It's perfect. Yeah. So a Honda CRV, preferably purchased by your parents for you for free, but you know what? Great purchase. Props to your parents. Yeah, they picked a good one. This one I said, a gym membership you will actually use. And so this is what I mean. Like if you're looking at your budget and you're like, hey, I don't really, this gym feels really crazy, like a big portion of your budget. I would honestly say consider paying more for the gym than you think. Uh-huh. Because then you will actually go to it and it'll just be great overall for your entire health. And I think that it will be an investment into your future medical bills as well. Yeah. Yeah. Don't just do the plan of fitness. If you're not going to go. If you're not going to go and do it, that's a great option. But their whole membership business model is to get as many people to sign up and then never go to the gym. And it works. And it does. And people don't go. They don't go. Because they're like, oh, my gym is $7 a month. So I'm not really. Yeah. Go to a gym that you actually like. And it's like something that you enjoy and it's fun. And for me, I'm like, a gym membership is actually totally worth it. Totally. You know what's funny about that? Is that I'm like me. I can have an expensive gym membership, but like can't. Like, can't go to the lifetime in front of our house. Absolutely. Yeah. He's got to go to EOS. No. Why does it feel different for guys? I'm like, you're just going to go throw weights around. Just go do it at $10 fitness. That's true. But for the girls, we're going to socialize. We're going to community. It's true. Exactly. I agree with that. We're being motivated. I do think it's worth it. I think it is too. I'm not paying for mine, but it is. I haven't asked. If I did. Yeah. I'm very expensive. I mean, I paid for CrossFit. I paid for a lifetime. And I've always gone. I've never like not gone. Yeah. Yeah. Totally. This second one. I know you guys will not agree with me on this, but 100% in my mind. With the money, it's Lululemon. And I'm not saying this for the cutest stuff, for the trendiest stuff. I'm talking about the quality of Lululemon cannot be beat. And you can give me all the Amazon dupes. No, no, no, no. Sierra's yoga doesn't compare. None of them Amazon leggings. They're not buttery soft. They're not like the Alliance. The Lululemon quality. I have everything. I still have every stuff 10 years old. I have this lime green tank top. I got it when I was a sophomore in college. I was 20 years old. It's still perfect. You don't dry it. It's going to last you forever. To me, that's worth the investment. I love it. And I'm just saying there are other brands that are cute and good quality. But if you're going to spend that much money on leggings or a tank top for the gym, let them last you 10 years, you know, and get to a year. That's what I'm saying. It's worth the money. I love a gift to Lululemon. Me too. For Christmas, I always, or my birthday, I always ask my mother-in-law for gift cards to Lululemon. Because I know I'll go find something that I'm going to use forever. And it's not usually like the trendy stuff that goes at a style that you'll wear forever. It's so good. It's so good. A long, similar lines. I said a good pair of tennis shoes. Yes. And I said hokas. Because for me, I feel like hokas are very universal. I wear them to travel and walk around. They're my travel shoe, meaning I'll wear them wherever we're going. And I can also wear them to work out. They're very universal. Whenever I have a pair of them, I literally just wear the heck out of them. And I have an internal rule of how often I can repurchase them. But by the time I have hit that time, they have gotten so much wear. Yeah. They have gotten like, because it's because I'm literally wear these every day and I wear them for most of the day. Right. Every day. They're very comfortable. And I feel like your feet are something that like they can, you want to get good supportive shoes because your feet, especially as we get older, I just think about like my grandparents have so many problems. For sure. they realize oh. I need to get these like expensive orthotics and these nice shoes. It's like that I'm not saying that's never gonna happen but like I think we could done something along the way good supportive Footwear starts now. Yeah, so let's just get that let's just invest in that when I started running in college I used to get the worst shinsplint and then I started to have knee issues and all this stuff and I went to a run Store and got my feet fitted for shoes shinsplints went away It was just such a clear sign to me that I can't actually do the things I want to do if I don't have the equipment to help me And when I do have the equipment to help me and makes doing the hard thing more enjoyable and more motivating So I always recommend people like what do you want to do to get in running? I'm like go get good shoes I'm gonna hurt your feet and they're not gonna give you shinsplints. Yeah, and I'd much rather have less shoes I don't have that many shoes. Yeah, I don't care about that I'd rather like have shoes that are very universal like in more than a lot of different places For sure the hookers are great my third one is direct flights. I'm sorry 1,000 that's always gonna be worth your money. I think as I've gotten older the top the shift has gone from The the shift is that my time is more important Well, also you're gonna get you're just been more in the airport getting food in between like on your layover Yes, they're like that's $30 just $30 bucks Is the price that different? $100 maybe if it's if it's over a hundred dollars. I'm I will consider a layover To save but under a hundred bucks. I'm just gonna pay the extra 60 to save my time with kids at this point Oh, if there's kids involved, I will yeah, we're gonna go for a hundred But if it's like me and Kayla, but I'm trying to go inexpensive if it's less than a hundred dollars I'm gonna pay for a direct. Yeah, it's just it is so and then you're traveling or more susceptible to delays and issues and lost luggage And all this stuff is just not worth the headache It's not just get get on that plane and get to where you going my next one was permanent jewelry I actually really I know this is a trendy thing but I know myself and I know that I'm gonna walk in on this one and I have for years I've worn my same jewelry for years and it's because they're Good metals like they you are paying more because you want to have like the real metals But I literally don't take them off because I can't take them off and I don't want to take them off and for me I'm not a jewelry girl, but I love to have accessories So I'm like I love that I don't have to think about this. That is so nice. I don't want to think about it Yeah, I want to change it. Yeah, this one I bought kill bought me this for Mother's Day and has our kids names You got from truly blessed jewels. Yeah, I was gonna say truly blessed. Yeah, I didn't get it permanent because honestly They're we were there a long time it would they were really busy that day at bachelor parties And we just kind of walked in but I kind of would but it mind it being permanent. Just not think about it. It's so nice Yeah, that's a great one. I like my bracelet. I don't really like to add other things to it really there I switch on my earrings so I'm like that's plenty totally. I really basically wear the same earrings every day too Yeah, I don't want to make that decision too, right. I how fit is plenty. I agree My fourth one maybe a little controversial It's acutane another one I didn't I can still be worth the money. I'm thinking it's let's have this worth the money Acutane my I mean that is so not fitting your Personally profile. No, I know. What do you mean why I don't need clean skin care? Baby Agitane. I will take a pill Get rid of my acne. Yeah, but I did a long time ago with my head. It's past What's been done a little bit for six months for a lifetime clean this horn on your body? I think it is Yeah, it was really hard. Um, I remember like my skin. I have allergies from it. I still feel it Thank you. That's what I'm saying like I never have to spend I don't have to spend all the money in the long run for Expensive skin care and all this stuff, you know, it's just maintaining what I got when I was fifteen. Yeah, it's hard It's really hard, but I don't have the scarring that a lot of people get because they just zapped it out It helped fix my skin. So I've always told Caleb if our kids struggle with acne in high school Let's like I would strongly Persuade to do acutane. I just think it was worth it. My sister had really bad sister acne totally cleared her face up She's never struggled since No, sorry, even my dad used acutane like it's been around a long time and I think he had like terrible sunburns for like no Yeah, you don't want to do it in the summertime. I did it during the school year so that I was winter Which you get more dry than which is a little bit lighter option to okay that my friend did who has insanely beautiful skin to really see That's a thing. I'm like I think it's just worth it And I remember when I started getting pimples I went in and they started to have me do all these different creams and these other things like They wanted me to be on this medicine. I would technically have to be on my whole life to Continue to have clear skin and that just was like I don't want to be on medication that to take every month For as long as I want clear skin and then when I go off who knows what's gonna happen? That's so much more money So it's like permanent acutane. Yeah, for me. I know people have to do it multiple times really but my skin was not severe Before but it was enough to be like yeah, you could do it. I know Worth it. It was so worth it. Thank you mom. I never had a pimple in her life. I don't know anything rock I don't really know much about it, but I know some about pimples. Yeah, did you guys know people that went on it? Yeah I it was probably something they didn't talk about all too because it's really awkward I had some really goofy side effects from it. I got this allergy I don't know what I'm allergic to but it's something in solutions and deodorants that I get triggered that got triggered from acutane I'm assuming because I never had it before but I would get when I was on acutane this full body rash from my neck to my toes That it was almost like like a baby prickly heat rash and it was severe It was so itchy. It would cover my whole body and I had to go to dermatologist for it I told you guys this and I walk in the dermatologist goes wow That's the worst I've ever seen. Are you okay if I take a picture of that? I got in the car and I cried I was so embarrassed. I'm like oh, it's the worst you've ever seen It's the worst thing to hear from a doctor But yeah, it'll make you a little awkward for a bit but worth it in the long run worth it I have two more but I know you're only supposed to have five. Oh do two say them together They're not related at all. You have six. Yeah, okay um I did say an espresso maker And I'm actually gonna say it's not worth the money in the sense like don't ever ask me to add up how many lattes I've made from it and like how much Starbucks costs and because I don't also think people really go to Starbucks that often Like I would's not going every day. It wasn't a big problem I'm just saying for the simple joy factor I'm gonna convince you that that is a good purchase based off of my what's not worth the money and that's my espresso machine Really? Yeah, but we'll talk about it on patreon. Oh, I'm so curious. Mm-hmm. Okay, so yeah, I love I it's like one of those things I've had it for a while and every single morning. I'm like So excited. I think it's worth the espresso. I like really like it and it's simply for the joy factor Don't I don't want to try to say that it's worth it for the money factor But it is worth the money. No, but I think it is Both you and your mom have one and both of you are so joyful about making people coffee. I love making it for other people Maybe the most incredible ice latte for the pool when we went on tj's birthday She was creamy. It was so creamy. I don't know what she did. I didn't want to know she's making this s'mores one Like you're crazy girl, and it's delicious. So good. I'm like mom make me one of those I it was better than anything I've ever bought Out I was like, this is the best ice latte. She bought little cups Oh, yeah, it was so I should tell her that I didn't give a praise for it. It was so good. Oh, if you tell her that I just know because even for me, I'm like when I hear that I'm like I need to tell her I'm gonna tell her something good with my life My last one is the sublime cookie sandwiches from Trader Joe's every time that's worth it Every time I go to Trader Joe's without a doubt that is worth the money. I'm putting that in my car How much is it for one box of four four dollars five bucks six bucks? Maybe it's less than six. Okay Because I think I am a calories. I think so too. I like that. I'm more so worth the cow. Yeah, that's a million percent worth everything There's satisfied. It satisfies completely. It does you're never left being like and they're not small. No, I don't want something small Honestly, if you try the cookies and cream one too. No, I don't like cooking cream. Oh, it's actually so good. Mm-hmm. The cookies and cream what happens is like I cut in half of you half of it and I go and eat the other half It's like one so good and then they're actually so sweet too, but I like want the whole thing so good That's worth it every time sublime cookie sandwiches. Trader Joe's My last one was I said good pots and pans. That's kind of boring, but um I don't want to be scrubbing pans and pots and I want to get a good like crisp on my food right and I really like the Our place ones those we just switched to those not super long ago a couple months ago I'm really loving them. Are they always toxic mm-hmm? They take toxic in a non-toxic way. Yeah, we have the titanium. We're not advertised as toxic wine, but Titanium is non-toxic I had to look it up because I was confused and I was like, how are they so clean? Uh, cuz I looked it up. I was like, oh those are cool Um They're the toxic wine and they're not that sick wine Give me the toxic. The toxic one is not toxic until they get scratched Right, which my whole idea always gets scratched choosing the toxic option and then just seeing how how much I outlive you guys With the non-toxic. Yeah, every time Abby and I are doing something in the kitchen and I'll look at it and she'll be like Oh, yeah, I'm getting the glass version. I go cuz microplastics. I'm gonna go yeah You guys did that with the the bowls for the kids. I got it. Guess what you mom tried to put that in the microwave It's metal. I know Back up the metal one's out for the kids. I look way deep in there and got the plastic one for This is gonna be we're gonna have a really good um like a test sample within the family - I love it. - My dogs get microplastics all the time 'cause they just eat all those. - I'm so much microplastics. I literally think about that all the time. I'm like, "Do you not care, girl?" - You're gonna die of microplastics. - You eat plastic. You're eating a credit card a week. - Guys, we're in a credit card a week. - More videos, you know, like when they, like, circle back to their one joke, ours is watching that microplastics documentary. - Yeah. - And we just keep circle back. - We're printing it back, right? - We're very funny. - We are extremely hilarious. That's a good thing you listen to this. Let's do the five things they're not worth the money. - Okay. - On Patreon. - We've been talking a long time, haven't we? - Yeah. - Yeah, it's okay, it's okay. - Thank you to Honey Love for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. Ask, ask, ask, Abby. - Hi guys, my name is Tessa and I was just calling because I've been on a huge movie kick lately and I would like to know what your favorite movie flavors are. Okay, bye. - That's a cute question. I'm sorry, I'm not a good judge. - Yay! - It's not, don't get excited, but it's really just like distracting. - Okay, I'll go first in. I've been making the same smoothie for about eight years. So, I have it almost every day. It is banana, half a banana, spinach, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, vanilla protein powder. I like the clean, simple, each protein powder. It's delicious and almond milk. And that's a, - To what's that flavor? - Berry. I don't know, but it's better when there's more blueberries than strawberries. - Okay, well, I have a couple categories for smoothies. I have yummy smoothies and I have healthy smoothies. - Sometimes it doesn't taste as yummy as, I don't think. - Yeah, like that sounds healthy. - It is a healthy smoothie. Okay, I love, if I'm going like a protein shake place, I love a PB&J shake and they're not, I would, this is not healthy. - PB&J, so it's peanut butter and. - It's like peanut butter and a lielberry. I personally like wild berry. It's delicious. I don't know what's in it and I don't wanna know. It's delicious. Other smoothies, okay, and then I'm like, a refreshing smoothie is different than a protein smoothie. I like once, I was just talking about this today, in high school, this was like my healthy smoothie. - Okay. - Frozen strawberries, frozen pineapple, apple juice and vanilla Greek yogurt. - Oh, I do add vanilla Greek yogurt in the mine. - Okay. - Or strawberry Greek yogurt. Thanks for reminding me. The yogurt makes it a great texture. - Yeah, that was, that's not a healthy one, but it's really yummy. - Do you think that was healthy? - Cause the apple juice, apple juice, there's nothing really actually substantial about it. - Like no protein in it, it's just frozen. - Yeah, just the yogurt, which I would do like two scoops of it. But I have a couple protein shake recipes that are like really healthy that I'm like, but I'm like, I can't really recommend it. I feel like, yes, smoothies are funny. I have to be in the mood for a peanut butter flavor smoothie 'cause it just overpowers everything else. But I do like it with strawberries and bananas. - Yeah, but it's just overpowering. Mint chocolate is also really good. You can make it healthier too. - You're going into the shake category. - Yeah, I would agree with that. - Like a protein shake versus this. - Okay, well then I guess I don't ever have smoothies. - Do you remember when she was like, oh, I just made that like a snack. It was like that ice cream mint chocolate chip. - It's still good for you. - It's a light protein ice cream. - What's in it again? Halo top protein ice cream, almond milk, protein powder and two oreo thins and ice. - Yeah. - Get mad at that. - No, I'm not mad. (laughs) - Get mad at it. - That just leaves like rich for after the gym. - It's not. You have to try it. - I love it. I love a rich smoothie after the gym. - A whole pint of ice cream. - I'm not putting a whole pint in it. - I love it. - I'm judging the butter finger shake from one stop. - Yeah, smoothie just needs to be, yeah, I know it's weird. A smoothie just needs to be fruity. - Well, here, forgive me. I'm doing the Tel Aviv thing again. - Just for you, I mean, next question. (laughs) - Please forgive me for my judgment. - Okay. - Hi, Abby, Abby, and Abby. This is Val, not the OG, but from Connecticut. And I was just wondering how you guys decided to wean or how the weaning process started from. Breastfeeding, my daughter's almost won, and I am looking forward to being done with breastfeeding, but I know that I can make it just one more month till she reaches her goal. But yeah, just any tips on that whole process. Thank you. - So it's free. - She reaches her goal, as if you love that. We do it for them. - I love that. - For us, it was actually pretty easy. - Yeah. - For our second, he weaned before I literally was ready to. I wanted to do a year, but I feel like at 10 months, I was like, he's just not doing this anymore, and I don't really know how to force him at this point anymore. So he, that one I didn't even have to wean him. He weaned himself, he was done, he was over it. My first, I just started cutting feedings down until we were only doing it morning and night, and then I cut out the morning one, and we're only doing it at night. I think not nursing to get them to fall asleep has to happen long before you like wean because then they need to find another way to fall asleep. If it's just for like comfort at that point, then I feel like just snuggling and using binkies versus nursing is what we ended up doing. And then, so like I would just hold them in and rock 'em, and then just stop nursing him at that point, and then put 'em down for bed, just using other reasons to sue. I think you gotta figure out why your kid is still nursing. Like if it's like, oh, they actually are just like, this is their food. Then that's different. Then you go about it differently than if they're using it for comfort, than if they're using it for going to bed. - Yeah. - Because there's a lot more reasons for that. - Yeah, for sure. Yeah, when they get a little older, it's more of a comfort thing, res. - It can be. Some people, I feel like some of the babies are still getting calories at that point. - Yeah, yeah. I mean, they don't need to though at that point. - Right, right. - Yeah, it's not as like a necessity as a baby. - But then at that point, I would say like give them more calories during the day. - Yeah, exactly. - Yeah. - So I, CJ went over 11 months, almost a full year, and he, weed himself. Like, I would kept trying in the morning. I think I started cutting daytime feeds 'cause he was getting a lot more from food, and he was getting formula two after his six months. So we nursed morning and night for like three or four months, and he just stopped caring. Like, he didn't want to add. Try to latch him, he'd come off. I try to latch him, he'd come off. And then literally one time I was like, he does not want to do this. - Yeah, you would like turn his head. - Yeah, I was like, he's just not interested in this. So that made it really easy. But we did get to 11 months, but he was just morning and night, and then we supplemented during the day. Vivian, with both kids, I had start using formula at six months because my supply drops drastically, and they both started losing weight, stopped sleeping through the night. Like, it was affecting them. So it made it easier with Vivian. I was like, I'm okay with weaning. And I would just start with one formula bottle at the craziest day for me at dinner time. I started doing one formula bottle and nursing all the other times. And then I think each month I dropped a feed. And then one day I stopped nursing her eight and a half months. It was recent, but eight and a half months. Yeah, I was like, I think I'm done. I'm done. And she was really doing great with her formula, which now she's been having some tummy issues. But she didn't go through formula, she started eating solids. It just seemed like a really easy time to leave. And she wasn't as, I don't know. - I feel like you stopped quickly with real. - I stopped for like six months. - Not early necessarily, but quickly. - Yeah, because she didn't care. And I also, I felt like, I mean, me being my type 8 type person with like work and all the things. It was just so much easier to just give her a bottle and me pump and quicker for like me to get back to the things I needed to do. I wasn't benefiting, like I wasn't getting anything from her being on me and she wasn't really caring either. So I quickly just switched to doing bottles and pumping because I wasn't a comfort thing for either one of us. I would say she's still not like a coddler or like a physical touch and maybe that's because I'm not either and so we're just chilling. But we're just chilling together. So I don't even, yeah, I was thinking I'm like, I don't even remember weaning because it just wasn't a thing. It was just, it seems easier so we just switch. - Yeah, when the baby decides to wean though, I think you just need to be careful about, you still have to get it out at some point. - Yes, because I got myself in trouble. I thought I would have done it and they got a better. clog. I would just start pushing my feed so if I didn't out with the dinner time feed I would skip it and then an hour later I would just pump a little bit like I'm not a ton but I would to not fully empty like we you know I don't want to keep making milk of that time and then once you skip it enough times and empty later it just stops producing that time. You can also take an allergy pill. Oh shoot I didn't know that. Yeah that's fun, fun fact. Last question. Hi Abby and Abby I'm Caitlin and I'm Leah. We're a mother and daughter that looks forward to both times every week and we love y'all so much. We were wondering if you guys got arrested with no explanation what was your friends assume you did. Thanks bye. I think we answered something similar with the husbands. Oh yeah. That's hilarious. That's so sweet that you guys watched together. I love that. Thank you guys for watching and to pretty the show it's so fun. Okay if my friends well why don't you guys answer for me and I'll answer for you guys. I mean I would just assume you were falsely accused or something. That's so nice. There's you're a law-abiding citizen. Thank you. Actually I was just watching a documentary and this girl was falsely imprisoned but she admitted to it because she literally was just like told that she did this and she hurt. They were like and she was like yeah I guess I can't believe I did that. I feel like you can maybe do that. I'm so sorry. I did not do that. I didn't mean to make you feel that way. I guess I did. I guess I did. I don't know what you could be. I can't really say. You guys are law-abiding citizens. For me I feel guilty. I feel like I have done tax fraud because I don't know anything about taxes. We hired someone to do it because I was like I have no idea and we have a weird tax situation. I'm just like waiting for them. No I know what yours would be. It's missing jury duty because you didn't read your mail. You didn't go to your mail. So that's what you would get. You would go to jail for missing. You go to jail for that. Court of point dates. After the podcast last week I got I didn't get someone to after the podcast but Blake opened to the mail and I got someone for jury duty. You're kidding. I don't know. I want to be in it. I asked Blake I said can you ask your boss how I can actually be chose for jury duty? Not the other way around. I want to be picked. You just had to be an unbiased. I will unbiased. I'm gonna dress nice and be unbiased. Normal. Hopefully my group get because they just they pat to pick your group to even go. So I'm waiting and I hope my group gets picked. My dad was on jury duty for a homicide. That's what I think about that. That's rare. That is crazy. I want that. But it's such a commitment. I didn't try to think about what you're getting arrested for. Right now our license plate on our car. We just have a temporary attack because we still have a contract. I did get pulled over. I had no idea that it was expired. Right currently right now what I would get arrested for is so niche. So niche. I just put it out there. The husband and wife a lot team are doing YouTube videos about the bricks and many fake stuff and they're gonna get mad that they're doing stuff about it and so then the store owners are gonna come and they're gonna say something that we did wrong that we have drugs in our cars. I mean then they're gonna come and arrest us. You're gonna get framed. Yeah I'm gonna get that. That's good. That's good. That's good. So niche. Perfect. The support has more quality money to it. I don't even know what you guys are saying. Brixton Minifigs. Brixton Legos. Minifigs is like many figurines of Legos. Think of like a game style. Brixton and Minifigs. It's kind of like a game style. I think there was someone named Brixton. And then versus Minifigs. It's something that always the franchise at the scam. Okay. Always hungry. Always hungry. Always hungry. Yeah. I'm gonna do this white chicken chili soup. Sorry it's summertime but I think pizza is a little white chicken chili. I feel like white chicken chili feels summery. It totally does because it has the corn and the green onion and not the green onion but the pepper the green pepper in it. The white beans are the white beans are the white beans is summary. It's so good. You know it's a tortilla chip or a big crusty bread. By the way, do you have any of that crusty bread that you made? Yeah. I want to know that before I leave. Crusty bread. She made it on Sunday and we never cracked it open. It's just like a salad? Yeah, I just want some of it. Crusty bread. It looks good in crusty. It wasn't as crusty but you can make it crusty. Perfect. Um, have I ever shared my sourdough cinnamon rolls? Because we've just been I've been hoping so. I'm gonna have to write it down on the link because it's kind of not. Listen, these are the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. Thank you guys. People talk about these cinnamon rolls and makes me feel so loved. You know, I know what my heart take is. What? I liked the ones for the shower better than the ones on Sunday. Crazy. I know, right? Where they made differently. Um, it's sourdough is just one of those things you can't really consume. Oh, it's not consistent. It's substance. Also, the sour levels can change. Sometimes I also just think I get a little carefree with it. Oh, I've never noticed a difference in the taste. Okay. I'm not eating them every day to notice. Here's what I like about the sourdough. Those are back to back. Yeah, they're back to. Yeah. You're going to like about the sourdough cinnamon rolls that I actually think they're easier than regular cinnamon rolls because you don't have to double rise them. You literally just do it rise that one time. And the sourdough kind of offsets the sweetness of the cinnamon roll. And this was a recipe that was given to me by a friend. It was delicious. And now I like to make them. They're actually really easy. They're so good. And they're fun to make. Killed told me in the car after on the way home after Sunday dinner. He said, every time you make rolls are kind of dry, but every time Abby does them, they're like, the rolls are really good. That's fighting words. No, I agree with them. Every time I make rolls, they are kind of dry. I think I need a new recipe. Matt complimented another woman's cookies and it actually caused a fight. Well, I don't think it didn't bother me because it's true. If it was like, no, it's right about this as well. Was it the country you took home from? I'm just gonna be living Hawaii. And I actually was like, Matt, how dare you? I mean, now he's like afraid to compliment other women's cookies. That's a me problem. I'm gonna work on it. Oh my gosh. I was watching YouTube and of the video popped up and when we visited you guys in Hawaii, and Matt pranked, did a prank of when he pretended he hated your food and spitted out at dinner with us and then Killed did the musical theater throw up. Do you remember that? No. It's like this is how normal people throw up. This is how musical theater people throw up. That is how Matt throws up. It's Caleb do. It's crazy, Emily. Let me just do it a little bit like the walls are shaking in his house. Raking everybody up. Okay. That was great. Well, in closing, this was a fun scatter episode. I think the next episode is when we're talking about it. Are you serious? I better start reading the book. That's what you said last week out of y'all. Every time I would always sneak stuff on her. It's like we do this every month. There's something. I will say, "Hey, I'm reading it. I'm about to go on a vacation. It's not a book. I want to read on a vacation." I'm gonna pick a different one to read on. I know. I feel bad because I think it's bad. It's okay. It's just not a vacation book. It's not a fun, I need a romance book for a vacation. Okay, it's not fun, Z's. Say, "Listen to it on higher speed." Just listen and you don't need to, it doesn't be on higher speed, but if you're going to listen, you can listen. Did you see that real environmental of those girls? It's like when you're on the way to book club and they have yesterday year on their car audio, it's like three to half x speed. That's funny.
