Prepping for labor: What's in my hospital bag & 5 Things Worth the $$$
90m 36s
The podcast episode features hosts Abby and Addie engaging in a relaxed, humorous dialogue about their personal lives. They begin by discussing swim lessons for their children, with Abby noting the heat and her son’s progress, while Addie shares her hopes for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) as she approaches labor. The conversation shifts to a detailed review of the film *The Odyssey*, which they watched in IMAX; both found it impressive yet overwhelming, with Addie initially confused by the Greek mythology elements but eventually enjoying the latter half. They also react to a viral TikTok where a woman reads her ex-husband’s list of sacrifices, which includes absurd complaints like giving up a nine-to-five job and not cheating, prompting laughter and criticism. The hosts then discuss ASU’s new influencing major, acknowledging its practical coursework in content strategy and analytics. In a segment on hospital bags, they exchange tips for childbirth, emphasizing comfort items like string lights for ambiance and coconut oil for newborns. They conclude with "five things worth the money," highlighting a pool, a reliable Honda CRV, a gym membership, high-quality Lululemon apparel, and supportive shoes. Throughout, they weave in sponsor reads and listener questions about smoothies and breastfeeding weaning, maintaining a lighthearted, relatable tone.

- I wanna bring those birth combs that the doula gave me.
- Oh, yeah.
- Lost 'em, they're gone, so.
- Good.
- I'm just gonna get an epidural.
I told Matt, I was like, you can't even bring a camera in.
- Everyone films their birth.
- No, every time they've gotten really mad at us.
- Abby, that was a bad hospital.
- Hospital regrets, no whimsy.
Where is the whimsy in the hospital?

- Welcome back to Always Here.
- We're your hosts, Abbie Howard.
- And Abbie Howard.
- It's good to be here.
- It's good to be back.
- I was just here 20 minutes ago, and now I'm back.
- I was here for a swim, but now I'm back.
- Sorry. - That's true.
I saw you and it really confused me.
- Yeah, it confused me too.
I was like, how do I get home and then get back?
And then, but I'm here.
- You shapeshifted. - I was late.
- You look good. - Thank you, thanks.
- You were not that late.
- Denim on denim.
Is it working? - She was here earlier
for her son's swim lessons.
- Yes, I beat the teacher.
That never happens, but I felt a lot of pressure.
I'm like, he's the first one of the group,
so if we're late, everyone's pushed back.
- Yeah, 'cause they're only 20 minutes.
- It's good accountability.
- Yeah, we are here to share the hope and the heart
with heart and humor.
What's going on in your life?
- Well, my hope is that swim lessons are kicking up.
I love swim lessons.
- Our pool is at 95 degrees.
- Yes, but you know what?
Me and Vivi put our feet in,
and we were sitting there and watching, and it was fine.
We were under the shade, little fan going, it was fine.
It was hot.
- So hot. - But it wasn't as hot
as when we did the evening times.
- Not refreshing.
- No, it's not refreshing. - Yeah, why does it feel
hotter at nighttime?
- Well, when we did the 4:00 p.m.,
I was like, it's actually unsafe
for me to sit out here with Vivian.
I'm like, we can have to do that again,
so I took the earlier time.
- Ugh, that's miserable.
You can always come inside.
- Yeah, I know, but I don't wanna intrude every time.
- I also do need to say, you can see our pool,
the entirety of it, from our entire living space.
People were kind of concerned
that we don't put a life vest on Pretzel
when we're not out.
- I did see those comments.
And I've never heard of such a thing for a dog.
- I'm like, well, we have full visibility on her
like the entire time.
- But even if not, she does it all day long,
she knows where the steps are to get out.
I don't know, I just was like, what would happen?
She could cramp. - She just sits on that step.
- She just honestly hangs out in the Baja Shelf
and the hot tub, like a little.
- I didn't know we had to have eyes on our dogs
the same way we did our kids.
- No, it's not the same way.
I mean, if anyone says that the same way, that is crazy.
- Yeah, I was like, that just seems a little,
I don't know, I figured she could swim, she's good.
- She's an adult at this point.
- She can swim.
And then also we have full visibility,
but so you could definitely come inside.
He's with a swim instructor.
- Yeah, he is, yeah, he is.
Okay, well, I just feel bad.
- Oh, don't feel bad.
- I know, but you're just intruding.
It's a couple of times a week, so.
Anyway, I'm really excited, that's hopeful for me.
She's just been getting really good at swimming.
My dad did try to sabotage his lessons
and teach him the doggy paddle when we were in town.
And I was like, dad, enough, you're teaching in bad form.
So I'm glad we're working that out.
- He's like, just like this.
- He's sinking.
- He's like, dad, we're not working on that.
- We're not gonna do that.
- But it's okay.
He was well-intentioned, but wrong form.
So it's been fun to watch.
- What was your heart, or should I do my hope?
- Oh, do your hope.
- My hope is that I'm a good candidate for a VBAC.
I know we've already kind of talked about this,
but I feel like with each appointment,
they're just like, yeah, everyone here agrees,
it's fine and good.
So that's good,
because my doctor could potentially be out of town.
So I just wanna make sure that everyone was like.
- The team's all on board.
- Yeah. - Mm-hmm.
- 'Cause this is actually,
I'm proud of my body for progressing to this point,
because I don't really think this happened other times.
But I've been sitting at a four centimeters,
and I'm just waiting now.
- I know.
- So I'm like, it's kind of like
I have a fast pass for birth, right?
- I'm so sorry.
I really last week was like, for sure, it's happening.
And here we are six days later.
- It's actually really common.
And you know what, he had me really,
with your third, you know what I mean?
- Yeah.
- Third or fourth, he had me so convinced.
Last night though, like I started to feel like
the boy who cried wolf, like I feel stupid.
- No.
- But like last night he really had me so convinced
because the whole movie,
they were consistently eight to 10 minutes apart
and getting stronger for three hours.
- Wow.
- So I was like, okay, this is probably,
yeah, I've been fooled before.
I've been fooled many times before.
Actually not even fooled 'cause I'm like,
I'm not gonna believe this.
I'm not gonna believe this.
That time I was like, kind of get,
'cause some of them were getting like stronger,
not painful, still never painful.
So then I was like, well, never mind everybody.
I'm just an idiot.
- Oh, I mean, you do feel contractions.
So you're not an idiot.
- No, that one really was like,
that was a really good tease there.
Like, I'm like, I might just.
- You're like, this is it.
- That was the thing.
That was the thing that it's gonna do.
And then it'll not stop.
- We have this tradition where we try to go see a movie
before every birth.
So before Griffin, we saw Lightyear.
Is that what it was?
- That was a terrible movie.
- It was such a stupid movie.
- So bad.
- But you know what?
Before Augie and CJ, we saw Barbie
and that was also a terrible movie.
- You thought Barbie was terrible?
- Yeah.
- It was horrible.
You liked it, Addie?
- Yeah, I thought it was cute.
- Seriously.
- I mean, there are parts.
- It started off so cute.
- It, yeah, it did.
- There are parts.
- It was creative,
but I just thought it was the cheesiest movie of all time.
- Well, they were also making fun
of pregnant Barbie the whole time.
They were like, yeah.
- We're pregnant Barbie.
- Really active, actively.
I got induced that weekend, but we saw it.
So I was like, actively having contractions.
- You know what you did tell me afterwards?
You were like, my contractions are one minute apart.
- After Barbie?
- Yeah.
- Three days later, baby.
- That was your first.
I was like, I actually don't know
if they ever get that call.
- They weren't even, they weren't even painful.
I remember just being like, oh my gosh.
This is it.
This is it.
No, that's the thing.
It just gets, the first will confuse the cat out of you.
- You're so confusing.
- And then it actually only gets more confusing.
- Yeah, what?
- 'Cause then you're like, you actually feel like, you know.
- This hurts.
- What you're doing or what to expect and then, no.
- It's just more confusing.
- We didn't see one before Vivian,
but we brought back the tradition.
- Did we not?
- I don't think so.
That was a whole, that season was so busy.
- Yeah.
- Just felt like we didn't.
But yeah, we saw Odyssey last night.
That was my heart.
- That is literally your heart?
- I'm just segueing, but yeah, we'll come back to it.
- I literally told Caleb, I wouldn't.
Okay, I've told Caleb I wanted to see the Odyssey.
- Yeah.
- 'Cause he was, 'cause he's the one, it was really sweet.
He was the one who's like, okay, you're about to have a baby.
Like, we needed to see our movie.
- He's been bringing that up.
At least twice a week.
- Which is really sweet.
- Yeah.
- And so I was like, what about the Odyssey?
And then I was like, but Abby won't wanna see that.
And he goes, no, I think she'd like it.
And I was like.
- Just, mm-hmm, mm-hmm, think she'd love it.
- And then I was like, and then you're like,
yeah, I don't mind violence.
- No, I don't mind violence.
That didn't bother me.
- And then, you didn't like it.
- Actually, maybe it did kind of bother me.
There were plenty of times where I was like,
some of the scenes in that movie, I could not watch.
- It's not for the girlies.
- It was the pig scene, Addy.
- The pig scene.
- Oh, yeah, yeah.
- Well, I.
- That was disgusting.
I looked away.
- Did you know that wasn't CGI?
That was like, they had like molds of,
and there was like a clay maker that like, did it.
- That's amazing.
- And there was like robot stuff.
- Yeah, we'll get into the whole movie,
but that was a little bit of my heart.
- That was your heart?
- The first hour and a half, I was like, this is hard.
This is the loudest movie I've ever been in.
My ears hurt, and I just wanna leave.
And this guy's turning into a pig.
I don't understand.
And then, like after an hour and a half in,
I was like, it clicked.
I said, oh, it's Greek mythology.
Like, I didn't get it for that long.
- The names didn't.
- Zeus.
- I was like, why is it not right on film?
Like when the giant came in, I said, a giant?
What is this movie?
Like, it did not click, yeah, the cyclops.
- Like, this is real life, this is a historical event.
- No, I was like.
- This has actually been around so long.
- The Bible.
- I know, I know.
And we read it in school, I don't remember.
- I don't remember any of it.
- No, I agree.
I feel like I definitely got humbled by some of the things.
I was like, oh yeah.
- We'll talk more about it.
You tell me your heart and then we'll.
- My heart is I just have actually no motivation.
- Perfect.
- I got, remember I had low E?
- Yes.
- Low P.
- Yeah, low M.
- M, all time low.
- Yeah, I don't blame you.
- No, the M is not there.
Like, I'm like, like I wanna make plans 'cause I'm like,
I don't wanna just sit around and just twiddle my thumbs
and wonder when I'm gonna go into labor.
But I'm also like, but really why would we go and do that?
And that's not normally me.
- Yesterday you were like, please Griffin,
could we please not go to the kids' house?
- I was like, please, I don't wanna go to a trampoline.
I was like, I beg of you, please don't make me go jump.
He did ask me to jump.
I said, do you see that sign right there?
It literally, there's a sign that says
pregnant women cannot jump.
And I was like.
- Good, perfect.
This was my saving grace.
- It's illegal.
I don't want to.
I can't.
- We're not doing that.
- Did you guys have trampolines growing up in your backyards?
- No, my mom was definitely afraid of them.
- My parents refused.
You won't have the shared experience then.
I remember--
I did at my friend's house.
house though well like we had a lot of trampolines and I will give it to my parents we just got
trampoline after trampoline I didn't know they broke every time they broke a or a tornado or
winds flew it over the fence a tree fell on one you know all the things but just asking my parents
to jump on the trampoline with me when we were old enough that they didn't need to do that yeah
they did sometimes and sometimes they didn't and so that's one thing I think about I'm like
oof when my kids start asking me to do things oh my gosh griffin asked me today to climb up this
massive rope thing and i was like buddy i just don't know how do you look at me and then he was
like but please mom we have to do it you're brave and you're strong oh which is what i always tell
him he's like if you feel scared just tell yourself you're brave and you're strong and i was
like oh gosh dang it i'm not scared buddy i'm i have low m i climbed it abby that took all the m
i had and then some shoot that's impressive that took all the m yeah i know his coaches walked
over and they were like i think everyone was like what is she doing so irresponsible now they're
like oh she really she went up there and i was like don't look at me up here i'm just sitting
there like at the top of this like you're like don't look don't watch me
come down
actually like we might need to call the fire department how do you get down how do you get
down griffin's like trying to coach me through it like one foot here it actually hurts so bad
on my feet this is so niche but like my feet on those ropes i've like have so much weight on me
yeah and like all just on this little foot oh man they can't do it the foot pain my last two
weeks of pregnancy at both times has been unbelievable somehow i still have ankles
so yeah they look good i lost my ankles after birth oh that's true they pump you with so much
that did happen to me too both times i'm just not gonna look down there well should we talk about
the honesty go back to it because we all saw it last night addy and blake's on imax which is
apparently a coveted thing 70 millimeter yeah i saw the difference in screen size did you see a
thing afterwards like if the comparison someone showed me because they were like trying to justify
why they saw an imax and i was like i just it was just a little bit more i kept thinking thank
goodness i didn't see this in imax i didn't feel like it was it probably wasn't any louder i don't
it's just more screen it's just big big screen and we're in the third row like they it's not like
they stretched it like they filmed extra that's cool yeah that's like a niche like film thing yes
you saw more of the actual movie like yours was cut smaller than what ours was it wasn't just
extended oh okay that's really cool actually i didn't know that and they filmed it on a cool
camera how's your neck my neck is fine i am interested to watch the movie again from a
different angle viewpoint
maybe from my home on my tv you're gonna watch it again for free at some point all three hours i
want to i didn't feel like it was that long okay i didn't i think i enjoyed the sequence of like
that there was thing after thing i knew something different was coming entertained like i knew
something different was coming every time rather than being like where is this going you know i
know totally there's a journey well the story is amazing and objectively the movie is incredible
like it's just no one could be like that's a bad movie it was an amazing movie i just didn't like it
i liked it way more but it was an amazing amazingly i actually really liked it but i'm
weird i liked the last hour and a half of it i'm saying i know that i liked it it's not a genre i
would normally like i'm not into like greek mythology necessarily like i don't know a lot
about it and i feel like i could have prepared myself better i think i should have i think i
should have known a little bit i think where i got a little confused was at the very beginning the
beginning exposition i was like why does he have to go i don't know i don't know i don't know i don't
know like i didn't realize that he was leaving for the trojan war and that he like had to leave
like i couldn't his motivation kind of got lost on me i didn't understand yeah why they went to
this war they didn't really go into all that i kind of feel like i needed that but also then
then we would have been so much longer just a little exposition yeah but i think that was on
me for not uh remembering school same i didn't remember i didn't know anything about i didn't
know what i was walking into what was your favorite place place or like scene
of like the different places that they went on the journey okay the journey part of the movie i
didn't really enjoy okay that was the first hour and a half no no i loved it when he got back and
then his son went to go find him and then he was reuniting with anne hathaway the last hour and a
half of the movie i loved that part of it and then when he started fighting all the suitors sorry we
are giving spoilers maybe we should give a little it's been a long it's been around since before
okay perfect when he's like battling all the suitors i literally went yeah like i did that
when he when he strung the bow yes that part i was so like i loved all of that so i would say the
last hour and a half but the journey part i think because i was so confused about what i was watching
i was like by the way it is a poem it is a poem it is a poem i also thought i got frustrated
because like these people are so dumb they keep going to the shores and seeing all these
they needed creatures i know but there were obvious things like when the lady told them
to leave all their armor outside and they left there and saw all the other armor
and they just didn't think to run for their lives some of that stuff really but i think that was the
point that's why they died so they didn't though all of them all the men the pigs no like but all
of his crew did die oh because they were dumb well yeah they ate food it really was just a singular
mishap they weren't supposed to eat well they were um they were cursed by the gods yeah they
decided mostly mm-hmm because that was his son that he shot that arrow that's hard to avoid
and stabbed him in the eye yeah what in the world is poseidon doing give it making a making a cyclops
yeah that was all kind of lost on me a little like wow that's crazy that was that was crazy of all the
adaptations of a cyclops i didn't picture it that way i think i always picture it kind of fat i yeah
that was a skinny cyclops and also really human-like yes yes it was very human-like
i don't know why i kind of
actually a robot as well and yeah that's what i heard that's cool that stuff is so impressive
and i think you could tell in the quality of the film nothing looked cheesy or over like
fake it all looked legit i liked the trojan war part and they um we looked it up afterwards and
apparently there's no proof that that like the trojan war was real i also asked other people
had this same question i was asking blake on the way home i'm like what did that actually
happen or is this just like greek greek mythology like is this a historical event that this trojan
horse thing happened i think some people question if it i asked this says there's no solid proof
that a literal giant wooden trojan horse was real i liked that part i asked killed that question too
afterwards i asked like that i said sometimes when i say stupid like when i have a question
that i feel like sometimes could be obvious i always preface this is a stupid question please
don't get annoyed but you know what if there was a horse that they put don't shame me for this one
back in the day that would get hot do you remember that it was like a form of torture
look it up it's like a metal horse they'd put it on it people put people in it oh man they did some
really crazy forms of punishment there was a lot of parts that triggered my claustrophobia in that
movie yes i was like ah i can't breathe what you were referencing is a brazen bull brazen ball it
is a hollow life-sized statue made of brass or bronze with the door on the side it is a
metal punishment device it would get like super hot the fire a large fire was lit underneath the
statue heating the bronze until the inside acted like an oven and then they would scream and then
it would sound like a bull they would like make that sound yeah how do people even think of stuff
like that people can get people need to know that that's what humans that's what we could do yeah we
ain't we're not better anyway this was such a long review if you haven't seen it what how to wrap it
up what would you rate the movie for like a grading scale giving it like an a a b c yeah it's
gonna win all the awards it's gonna deserve even though i didn't like it i can't give it anything
lower than an a because it was such a phenomenal storytelling fantastic movie yeah i liked it more
than matt which surprised me a lot i was like i think matt also just gets his expectations so high
that he just like it really affects his perception of things i'm like i got adrenaline in the middle
and shakes so you know it'll play with you a little bit i mean happy we're there eating

yes okay so i saw a tiktok that has what let's look at the views um now it has 2.1 million likes
and it's like 60,000 13 million views and it is titled my ex-husband gave me a list of things he
had to give up during our relationship and she put give up in quotes perfect let's hear it and
she is married she's remarried now she was also reading this list to her current husband for the
first time okay i want to watch it so i was just shocked by this and i liked it i wanted to show
you guys number one this is a text message he sent to her so he wrote all this out and sent it
was like good i i agree i stamped this of approval okay things that i've given up one every woman i
could have had sex with
since you and i got together oh yeah what a sacrifice you serious that was his number one
number that is his number all the things i gave up while we were married sex with other women
of course you did that i'm sorry
number two i gave up my free time during the week to work a nine to five so that we could
get ahead financially wait what was he gonna do what was he gonna do otherwise but you weren't
gonna work like she was just gonna be the sole provider which isn't i'm not saying anything
wrong with that but live his life
life oh this wasn't an extra job he's saying i got a job i gave up all my free time during the week
to work a nine to five it's like what you want someone to just do everything for you i had to
get a job because of you and for yourself oh my god that's great yeah all for her not not so that
he could be you made me get a job woman
number three i gave up staying out late as i wanted several times because you wanted to get
home oh she she also says on the screen she's like kind of talking through this too giving more
context but she goes legit almost every night he stayed out or made us stay out for hours he would
yell at me for wanting to go home and eat oh stand by that good men don't yell number four
i gave up just regular conversations with many women just so that you could have
certainty that i wasn't even getting close to cheating on you this man certainly cheated
she says this too she goes she goes because you were gonna cheat on me with those women
oh my god i will say she's laughing about this too so we're laughing at him not her
um five i gave up watching whatever i wanted to watch many times to watch what you
wanted to watch that is so hard is that compromise or giving in
hey i went to the odyssey last night i was not excited to watch it i liked it a lot so there we
go and that's the list there's three more okay six i've given up a lot of my time driving back
and forth to see you throughout our entire relationship they were long distance before
and then they got married she goes we we were married at that point you weren't driving back
and forth to
so oh yeah he was upset that he drove to go see his the person he was in love with
to back this one up number seven sacrifice miles on my car oh no
she's like i'll reimburse you buddy i wish i could have my time back yeah literally oh my gosh
there's so many i thought there was only this there's more at least at 13 i'll go through these
a little quicker okay eight actually had a car crap out on me while driving from your place so
much about the cars really he can't let go
number nine money i could have spent on myself yeah okay number ten love i could have let for
myself or others i don't think he's got that much love to give honestly no i don't think that's no
one wants his love i don't think that's i don't think that's his concern number 11 time being or
time doing whatever i wanted just to be with you oh that's a relationship that's hard 12 i've given
up secrecy and told you everything i've given up he's definitely got so many lies
sir i think you're a liar i've given up secrecy i don't think you did
13 i've given up my pride to be honest and open with you
i'm glad she put that on the internet i hope that hurts his pride 14 gave up acting like a jerk to
be humble and studious to your family rather than prideful he wanted to be yeah what the heck oh my
gosh um 15 i've given my whole life to you on our wedding day well you didn't that's funny i've
given up feeling good about myself in my life just because you said i wasn't doing good enough
well that's sad number 17 but it also sounds honest number 17
i've given up feeling good about myself in my life just because you said i wasn't doing good enough
this man should never this man is not meant to be married this is the best thing that could come of
this yeah you'll never have to be married he'll never do that again he'll never have the option
he'll never have to do it says let me know if i was the worst wife ever
i just spent all my time with her and that sounds crazy but i just feel like she can rest assured
knowing like you didn't have anything to save like with this guy you
there was no fixing this situation he didn't he didn't mean his covenant no he didn't even know
what his bow said apparently he didn't know what was going on and you can just rest assured that
that one wasn't on you yeah the comments on this are just just so wonderful giving up my free time
during the week to work a 95 nine to five is the funniest way to describe just normal employment
just getting a job sorry that did not clock first that had 400 000 likes i thought certainly
that one certainly i was like surely he has a job
another job no um things i gave up for you being single being single yeah that's literally
everything things i had to do because i was married spend time with my wife work drive
not cheat and be a nice person not certainly cheated how can i also divorce him
that's hilarious that's so that's honestly so is the video her reading it to her husband
yes that's sweet what did her husband what was his reaction
he didn't really have any reaction she just showed that he was sitting in it that's also
one of the top comments it's like with my current husband it's like a cherry on top of a cake
oh that's sweet you got out of that you got out of that place now the fact that you can sit there
and laugh with your current husband that like this is so ridiculous it's great i'm yeah i'm
normally like not pro-divorce but i that man i that's he was never married he was never married
he was never they were never married he was he certainly didn't know what that meant he didn't
know he said what's a wedding you want to do one you want to do one you want to be my wife yeah
literally he didn't want to be a husband that is crazy sometimes when these things happen on the
internet i'm like wow it's crazy things that there are people like that that is crazy addy thank you
for sharing that you're welcome um i usually love reading the comments on stuff oh it was so good
i'm always like i'll send kael videos i said read the comments read the comments read the comments
that's funny something else that's crazy is that we live in arizona which is the location of the
first is this the first college that has offered an influencing major i know other colleges have
social media majors really i'm pretty sure thank you to cash out for sponsoring this portion of
today's episode something caleb and i have been talking about a lot recently is investing our
money it's a lesson that we learned at a young age which i'm really grateful for and has benefited
us now every week we have money that just automatically leaves our account we can't even
spend it we're not tempted and just watching that grow and build so that we could buy a car a house
retirement down the line
has been such a gift and it's something that we're teaching our kids cash up actually now offers
managed accounts for kids ages 6 to 12 that grow with them all the way to adulthood all with no
subscription fees because building money habits shouldn't cost extra the account runs through you
as a parent so you're not just watching from the sidelines which i really like you're actually in
it with them and that's what makes it a really cool teaching tool every time money comes in
or goes out it's a chance to talk about it together and i think that's something that
really sets our kids up for success in the future is not just having these one-off conversations

a continued conversation throughout their childhood you set the spending limits and you
can actually lock or unlock their cash app visa card anytime from your own app automate their

cash.app slash legal slash podcast full disclosures my take is that the name is the worst thing about
this but i do think that this actually makes more sense looking it says yes arizona state
university is the first large university to introduce an official bachelor's degree
degree specifically designed for content creation and social media influencing cool that's so maybe
the other company mother colleges are more social media marketing for companies yeah maybe more so
can you look up what the coursework is because that's actually because at first when i saw this
headline i my initial i have to be honest my initial impulse reaction was like that is so dumb
but then i was like wait a minute that's actually not that dumb when i looked into the coursework
of it or like it just said it in the caption it had like legit things that i was like i actually
could have used that yeah i mean i mean it makes sense that they're creating majors like this just
the way of the internet is changing a working landscape fully and there this was really cool
just going off of social media jobs oh i found it i saw this smaller creator she shared how she
things that she does for like side hustles to make money through social media
she made thirty one hundred dollars a month like this past month filming amazon review videos and
then putting them on amazon not on her own pages but she got paid for making review videos for
amazon almost like a ugc type of like user generated content um but i'm like wow that's
so interesting and no one knows about that or talks about that so it's just cool hearing about
these different ways people can make money yeah it's content strategy brand partnerships audience
growth entrepreneurship digital marketing analytics and monetization with the goal of
preparing graduates to build sustainable careers online awesome i was like actually when i read
that i was like that's actually really cool and makes and and valuable because before i was like
oh like you can just do it yourself and then i was like you know what i probably could have
you know not struggled so much for a little bit like that this is actually really valuable and
also like i feel like you go to college to earn learn a skill yeah to make money from yeah where
i'm like you're actually more likely to make money doing this than like
me who was an acting major for a little bit there like that wasn't gonna make me a better return on
your investment probably yes yeah yeah yeah totally and so i was like you know there's a
lot of degrees out there that are maybe it's up in the air or there's an argument around whether
or not they're valuable yeah degrees in the sense of like you'll make your return on your
investment like you're saying like for the coursework this one actually i'm like that's
not that's not crazy at all no totally and so i'm like you know what i support this i support it i'm
actually impressed that they did this so quickly created this because when i was in college so i
graduated in 2018 i was at the start of mizzou's entrepreneurship program they didn't even have
an entrepreneurship yeah i remember when that was like uh the big thing yeah like that's crazy
cutting edge yeah yeah and that was kind of you know how much it's changed at this time i'm curious
if more universities are picking up yeah i i'm curious their capstone projects instead of like
a traditional thesis is to write or to choose a social media platform of their
choice implement a growth strategy publish original work and graduate with measurable
proven audience growth i'm so curious about that because i do think there is a mix of
dedication and knowing how to make content and there's also a mix of luck of like
videos taking off and doing different things so i'm curious to see how that grows with with it all
yeah interesting well also if they're just starting out there are so many years i feel
like a trial and error you know and so trying to fit that into a semester of capstone project
you're not really giving yourself time to make bad videos but you'll learn all the back end side
that you don't a lot of influencers don't know or didn't know when they started and you had to
learn as you go versus you're learning it first and then you are prepared for when you do beyond
that if they're people could i could easily see people going into this program not necessarily
wanting to be the public figure themselves but like there's so many careers in social media
now literally my own brother like doing who never would have ever wanted to be an influencer you
know what i mean like i don't know if i would have ever wanted to be an influencer i don't know if i
like is literally working in social media solely for a company yeah yeah and to understand attention
and and would it would benefit from all would have benefited from all these courses in his
career in his job now for sure so i'm like actually that's actually really cool that's super
cool good job asu i'm just worried about all the parents that are probably having a heart attack
right now yeah like i just wanted to do something practical i well i just feel like this is the new
landscape for advertising
you know and i think that's how i describe to people i'm like i just i make ads like i'm an
advertiser for companies but when people ask me that i can tell i'm like they're not gonna
necessarily you just say you're in marketing yeah uh-huh i've said that before too to like
older people i do marketing um yeah i think that's really interesting and fun i'm curious if
they have like a psychology class in there maybe how to deal with public opinion and on your mental
health aspect of it i'm curious if they have like a psychology class in there maybe how to deal with
public opinion and on your mental health aspect of it you know putting your life out there a
psychology course called interpersonal influence okay so they have something something that's cool
because i feel like that is a thing where a lot of people feel very attached to you and
understanding that relationship and yeah and how that works too is navigating those yeah yeah
totally interesting interesting that's crazy that is crazy i'm like can can we like be a keynote
speaker this would be so funny guest speakers do we have
we haven't considered always here we will have an intern we will host a course today
anybody want an unpaid internship i think that would be so funny because like they have this
like structured class thing and then we're like i don't know i'm gonna find myself doing laundry
today yeah they're doing like professional things like well let me just film myself doing some
laundry and then i feel like have them in on one of our planning calls for a podcast episode yeah
you get a dental word i'm just literally feeling a cavity i'm like sitting there like this
that's amazing this is abby's last abby's being influenced to go to the hospital soon
not everything has to be true
we thought it'd be fun to do a what's in my hospital bag segment for abby yeah and i'll
pitch in and just share some of the things that i put in mine i could use some tips because i
actually our bag we're sharing a duffel bag and it's not full no yeah i didn't pack a lot
i packed almost nothing yeah yeah so i'm gonna share some of the things that i put in my bag
so please give me some tips of what to bring yeah i actually i have this is my list okay read it off
well okay i had it in different categories and i did this because we were making a video of it but
otherwise my bag wouldn't be packed right now i'm so honest i love the work accountability for
things well this is what how it started off with um this is the labor category and i had i was like
i want to bring those birth combs that the doula gave me oh lost them they're gone so good i'm just
gonna get an epidural
convenient
i'm gonna get an epidural
i'm gonna get an epidural
i'm gonna get an epidural
i think i don't need them
oh my god don't need amazon prime those give me the epidural
i'm sure val has some i got some i honestly texted her and i was like i did lose them
she's like i'll bring some and i was like it's okay
no but then i was like just go ahead and bring them because it's on my list yeah i just want to
throw it in the bag have it in there um do we really okay this is something i brought i'm
bringing this time that i'm not i haven't brought before was a
heating pad
because what a good idea um i do feel like on your like lower back that'd be kind of nice
do they have those at the hospital i actually don't think they do oh i i imagine they probably
have them but it's never been something that was like offered to me it's probably not a consistent
one it'll be like the crack ones up fade yeah yeah yeah um other things i brought headphones
sleep mask hair accessories string lights didn't bring those before but you're gonna see why
you're gonna see why i brought i want to bring them that is so extra i know but i'm gonna bring them
i wanted to bring them um cards oh we got these cards from our doula of like things for uh matt to
say that's fine for me please listen this is my plug to go listen to the unplanned episode i gave
matt a whole pep talk like a football coach of like what i wanted and what we didn't want and
yeah i think it was really good for us it was so funny the e was really low and then abby started
talking about she's like let me give you a pep talk i was like i'm motivated now because i don't
want you to do stupid things
when i'm in labor um water bottle and grip socks okay here's the thing they already have grip socks
there but i have little feet and they have the big water bottles too uh yeah they do have those
okay didn't need to bring that gosh dang it um for me personally i like to bring my own breastfeeding
pillow and my own pillow i'm bringing nipple shields because no one's ever offered me one but
i love them uh a pumping bra and a slash nursing bra i feel like that's kind of necessary you got
to keep those
tight uh pjs and outfit to go home in i brought my own toiletries charger kindle um stool softener
yeah i don't they gave me some at the hospital but i needed more yeah me too and uh shower shoes
but i actually think that they're just gonna be the shoes that i wear to the hospital yeah and
my makeup hey you should 100 wear tennis shoes to the hospital i walked four miles my goal is to
wait until i'm in excruciating pain though yes
i thought i was and then i walked in there and they're like you're smiling and i was like but it
hurts like laps i walked for two hours i was in excruciating pain they said well walk and i said
what do you mean okay i'll wear tennis shoes wear tennis shoes um i don't know they might take it a
little i'm already at four yeah you might they'll give you the episode they're trying to get you
from a four to a five they'll be like okay for matt i said he's bringing a pillow blanket snacks
maybe I just like said all of his tech stuff.
an extension cord he's not bringing i didn't put speaker you're gonna have your noise canceling
headphones on so you can't even hear matt's i don't want to hear it matt's gonna be in there
like so quiet in here you're like no the last no i that's not the type of music i listened to like
worship music and hypnobirthing and that like really helped that's awesome i literally was like
uh worship music and then drake go back to worship music migos okay i need to i had no music it
didn't even cross my mind to put music i told myself i would and then when i was in labor i was
like it's because my epidural world worked and i was just like yeah you're just chilling i was
just chilling the whole time yeah yeah power strip sound machine slash light for like the baby and
sleeping and stuff uh airpods computer camera toiletries yeah for the baby literally don't
have much at all i just said a onesie a take-home outfit coconut oil for the bum this is my biggest
tip i feel like
someone told us this before we had our first and it was really really helpful put coconut oil on
their little bum because they have that really sticky black tar poop and for our boys like they
did it multiple times and it was just so sad already changing their diaper and scrubbing
their little fresh skin and so we just like to put that on their bums before they have that mark
i never changed any of those kill boys did the black yeah matt changed yeah so i don't know how
we've handled them i guess fine i was told that and we brought aquaphor perfect
um i do want i do like to bring my own swaddle because i don't like to
hand manual do that and passies because i don't like the ones at the hospital well they don't
like the ones at the hospital yeah but like what am i forgetting underwear bring any i didn't bring
any postpartum care no because i just use everything at the hospital but you have like
i said underwear because i was thinking like you actually wearing underwear usually you'd
pack underwear on a trip you just wear a diaper you just wear a diaper all right do you have the
little pads to put in your bras for leaking i i thought about that i can bring some but i feel
like they have those at the hospital i didn't get any at the hospital okay i'll bring those yeah that
was i feel like i brought that for postpartum i brought a lot of people are bringing the freedom
mom mesh underwear i didn't like those i didn't just use the ones at the hospital while you're
there yeah and then save and then use those your diapers when you run out that's what i'm saying
because you're so extra heavy too at the hospital why ruin your own stuff
i have to be so honest with you you actually when you really think about it you don't need to bring
anything no you don't just like to change except your insurance card yeah literally and maybe some
clothes to change into yeah i like to bring it i didn't register at the hospital i did forget
to do that so now i'm registered oh you literally just call right you're like hey no i had a day to
do a form that they had a fax oh interesting i've never had to do that i know i was like i don't
have a fax machine yeah i don't think you're missing anything perfect yeah i feel like first
tj i brought a ton of stuff like i brought oh i had a full suitcase both times yeah before this yeah
and with vivian i literally just had some clothes for me stuff to shower in and then i had her
swaddle sound machine and toiletries basically and that was it i don't even know what we had i just
know i didn't need it yeah what are the string lights for oh okay so we had on here we're talking
about hospital regrets uh-huh i regret not having any whimsy in my hospital because i was getting
really depressed in there oh okay just really fast and i was like i want some lighting really changes
my mood it's something that is just like if i'm in harsh lighting i'm mad i don't know why okay
or i'm sad like it's one of those and the hospital light is just like that led like and then when i
remember when they would come in and like do stuff with the baby they're turning on the lights i'm
like just look just turn on a lamp for heaven's sake and so just plug in the string lights on the
wall please no it's gonna it has a battery oh so i'm like they i could literally just leave them on
yeah and i feel like he'll make me happier cute i love that they're ten dollars on amazon why not um
yeah hospital regrets no whimsy where is the whimsy in the hospitals we need a little whimsy
i need a little mood boost i love that people who like decorate the whole room i'm like i mean why
not i mean i love that yeah but i yeah people hate on that and i'm like why not do it i say why not
yeah people are like you don't need all that you don't need all that but who cares if you want to
do it yeah they're the ones packing it and bringing it home it's not a big deal so many
snacks bring so many snacks really yes oh yes because you're gonna be there a long time i packed
i got a big old shopping bag of stuff from trader joe's for caleb and then i ate it after birth too
i always just ate the hospital food but just snacks you know it's like this in between stuff
you know you're starving and sometimes you give birth at a time where restaurants aren't open
what you did didn't expect in the hospital
i think i packed a lot of entertainment and then i ended up never using either any of it for both
babies cj we did a little bit more because i was in the hospital so long after um birth we
did watch shows on our computer more but with vivian we were there such a short time i barely
like just while we were waiting to get discharged we pulled up and watched a show on our computer
otherwise we were in labor mode and we weren't using anything to entertain so i feel like that
was something that i didn't expect i thought we'd have a lot more down time even with the epidural
but when you're down you're just trying to sleep
mm-hmm so yeah no entertainment really no necessary i did i did you bring my tripod you
have a tripod in there and your microphones because i filmed a lot of content no i feel
embarrassed about that oh why it's fun it's so fun but kelvin i always have fun doing the
afterbirth videos i think our nurses were really pissed off okay your hospital was mean my nurses
i mean we didn't do when the nurses were in there no but i just didn't want to make any i didn't want
there to be any hoopla hoopla because i was i had one nurse i was like really mad yeah i've been
scarred for life i mean you need to fire your nurses if they're bad you can do that you can
ask for no my doctor yelled at her yeah you just said i don't want her in here anymore yeah i don't
know that i'm making the assumption that it was because she like thought that but so i have no
idea i honestly wasn't even really aware that she was being mean i wasn't aware of much and so but
it wasn't until afterwards i was like ma'am wait a minute
right we got into our like recovery room right before shift change so we met a nurse and i was
like this isn't this isn't going to work i would i was not vibing with her and then it was shift
change and the new nurse came in and i was like ah you are an angel i was so happy yeah about
shift change well this is really prideful this is really prideful and you can clock me if i'm wrong
i'm a great patient i'm nice i'm normal yeah i'm a normal person and so if you're rude
it's on you and i don't want you around i wasn't talking to her i was yeah you're like it's not me
i'm a great patient i was like i'm not talking i'm not bothering you yeah yeah i don't know what's
going on i'll just never forget i was getting this is when i like started to come to more because he
had already come out but she was stitching me my doctor was and then she needed to take him out and
redo them and i was in a lot of pain even just for stitches like i could feel a lot yeah and so then
i was like really watching the clock i was like how much longer because i also was like didn't
feel like i could hold my son because i was like in so much pain and then my they finally let my
mom in and my mom's like what took so long and i was like and then matt goes yeah it took like 40
minutes for them to do her stitches because they had to do it so they had to do it so they had to
do them twice and the nurse chirps up not even involved in the conversation she goes it did not
take 40 minutes i would have i remember all of us were like who are you didn't matt say yes it did
yeah and then also you guys came in you and caleb came in right before like there was gonna be no
more guests and she was like you guys really gotta wait she was like kept shoving you guys out and i
know you guys have rules but i'm like we have just labored for 27 hours yeah and like we're not going
to be able to see you guys all night like just chill ma'am like on your policy just for a minute
i didn't like the hospital and when you said you were delivering augie there too i was like please
switch hospitals i know i know and i'm glad this different it is different but um yeah no no hoopla
i told matt i was like you can't even bring a camera in he's not even wearing a camera are you
having your doula take pictures and stuff just on a phone yeah yeah you're gonna film record his
her his or her birth i don't know gender his birth and i don't know if we're gonna i don't
know you should even if you don't ever post it it's just i just am so afraid of them getting
upset because a lot of hospitals have policies about filming no they always are everyone films
their birth no every time they've gotten really mad at us abby that was a bad hospital okay yeah
we didn't have any issues no the nurse was like do you want me to film it and take pictures
and she recorded and no one said a thing no one said a word no no we didn't i was in my c-section
they were like do you want us to take a video of the birth no they kept telling us to put
your phone away i could see that in an operating room i could see that but in your delivery no no
no we knew that we couldn't they had already told us before we went in the operating room
you just have to ask i i think i asked my doctor like is it okay during the birth if i just set up
a video like out of the way my phone just so we can have the video for our memory yeah maybe your
hospital has a different policy no i think they had the no phone policy but we just asked and
they were fine with it i think they just have that for liability purposes yeah and it makes sense
that's why i'm just like so afraid of upsetting people yeah she was like if something goes wrong
we're going to turn it off i was like that's fine anyway no cameras i just was like no cameras no
mics no tripods yeah thank you to shopify for sponsoring this portion of today's episode

the food isn't the best like situation in the hospital so i after with cj i was like that's the
best meal i've ever had this short rope was so good and then every meal subsequently was so so
bad so they got me starving good food if anything there was good food what is your um i've actually
typed this message multiple times and never sent it to you um what is your preferred afterbirth meal
because you brought me one that i'm like i have to know what oh yes i brought you i feel like
culver's is the afterbirth meal
this is what this is what i was thinking i was like okay i need to bring you culver's
and i need to bring matt chipotle or salad and go or call them but i don't know those are both
what'd you say matt i got your fight over chipotle
just so you're both happy no you're not going to different places and it's culver's
you did bring culvers and it was amazing it was so it just tastes so good after um you know whatever
i'm grateful for anything
honestly but uh it just what it's a tradition thing you know
but you're cool if we come um birthday yes i actually just thought about it this is the
first time i've had a kid and everyone's lived here yeah it'd be so fun you have this bad good
cry if you have this baby well i'm gone oh but it's okay your doctor will be gone too when do
you yeah she's gonna be gone and our doctors you're like you're like i don't want to have
this way while my doctor's gone i've gone too it's okay you're leaving on friday thursday thursday
back wednesday oh it's like a bleak i'm sorry addy it's okay i said this to abby too i said
that she missed my wedding for griffin's birth i can miss the birth
and my mom talks about it so seriously she's like addy really doesn't want you to have the baby
thursday through when are you coming back like tuesday wouldn't you guys also prefer to be there
yes for sure i'm i was like i will try my best i'm not seriously at this rate he is very comfortable
in there so we need to do another video we did that video to induce addy we should do a video to
induce you this that's crazy well that's awesome i feel like you have your things that are worth it
for you for birth and our next segment i could totally mess it up i don't have like a great track
record with my hospital experiences so yeah i know i'm excited it's gonna be redemptive
i think it's gonna be amazing i think it really will okay our segment today is five things that
are worth the money have you guys seen this internet trend um no but when you guys told
me about it i like the idea a lot yes five things that are worth the money i've been watching all
these videos every time one pops up are they like talking about it yeah i'm like what are their five
things you know actually i did see one about baby products yeah and there are different genres but
in general the trends and five things worth the money i didn't know anything
i didn't either okay we just did that yeah we just did that
and then on patreon because it's already getting long we're gonna do five things not worth the
money perfect okay perfect okay let's start with the things that are worth our money what's your
number one i said our pool oh i know that was like very like that is and it was a lot of money but i
really believe that was 100 worth of money yes we're in it every single day and we have people
over in it there's people in our pool right now that i don't even know who's in it they're doing
swim lessons with their kids yeah and i just feel like that was just a really good it gives me a lot
of confidence living in arizona at first i thought it was like more of a scary thing um obviously it
is a scary thing you have to take it really seriously but i feel really confident with
our kids as swimmers now because we are able to be in it so often totally and um obviously
that's not a realistic thing for everyone but for us i'm like that was a purchase that we were like
and then we were like i'm 100 glad we did that yeah yeah i am too
i am too me three perfect we love you you don't need a pool you just need a friend with a pool
yeah exactly exactly yeah it's been a blessing to all of everyone in your life so i would agree
that's been a great purchase what's your number one my number one is my honda crv now i personally
did not purchase this car you're like mom and dad this has been a word i love you so much thank you
for my honda crv they gifted me this car when i was 15 years old wow i'm 30. i've had this car 15
years oh my gosh this car is a it is an 09 this car is actually old miles around your car about
160 000. i'm surprised there's not more i know but when i drove it like pretty much all in high
school and then even after college i only drove it in the suburbs you know just around small areas so
i was never i just wasn't taking yeah i wasn't taking it yeah but it's been the most reliable
car and it's such a gift so if you're in the market it's a great car and actually it's a great
car now for two kids i think when we have a third kid we obviously will outgrow the car but the
trunk space is amazing you can fit two car seats in there and a third person in between them if you
need um and it's compact it's cute the gas isn't crazy and it's so reliable it's been the best car
ever thank you take really good care of it thank you can i say this or is it gonna yeah i'm not
offended it no i just might need to come out with the patch job on it i was actually just thinking
about that too you know i know that you're where that's my trademark
caleb a long time ago when we lived in kansas city backed my car up into a like a dumpster
and it shattered or didn't shatter it punched in a big hole in the back of the car and so he
suctioned the hole out but then the paint all got ripped off kind of suctioned yes it's not smooth
by any means it's like and then he tried to repaint it but when he repainted it he bought
there are two versions of this blue and one is electric blue he bought that one and it was like
this literally neon blue patch i appreciate it because i know that it's you i mean too
i was just like you got it on sunday when we were because i think we were parked behind you
when we were leaving i was like it's so sweet to me every time i look i kind of smile and laugh
i'm like he really did the perfect little square he really taped it off it's like the perfect edge
it's like maybe a little bit more noticeable than before
we just got it tinted too it took us 15 years to tint the car it was literally just
i mean the windows
it was like a fishbowl and we would just cook in that car the tinting has been life-changing i said
i could keep this car 10 more years yeah so a honda crv preferably purchased by your parents
for you for free but you know what great purchase props to your parents yeah they picked a good one
um this one i said a gym membership you will actually use and so this is what i mean like
if you're looking at your budget you're like hey i don't really this gym feels really
crazy like a big portion of your budget i would honestly say consider paying more for the gym than
you think because then you will actually go to it and it'll just be great overall for your entire
health and i think that it will be an investment into your future medical bills as well yeah
yeah don't just do the plan of fitness if you're not going to go if you're not going to go and do
it that's a great option but their whole member their whole membership business model is to get
as many people to sign up and then never go to the gym and it works and it does and people don't go
they don't go because they're like oh my gym is seven dollars a month so i'm not really yeah go to
a gym that you actually like and you it's like something that you enjoy and it's fun for me i'm
like a gym membership is actually totally worth it totally you know what's funny about that is that
i'm like me i can have an expensive gym membership but blake can't like blake can't go to the lifetime
in front of our house absolutely yeah he's gotta go to eos no why does it feel different for guys
i'm like you're just gonna go throw weights around just go do it at a ten dollar fitness
that's true but for the girls we're going to socialize we're going to have community
exactly i agree with that class we're being motivated i do think it's worth it i think it
is too i'm not paying for mine but it is i haven't passed if i did yeah i'm very expensive
i mean i paid for crossfit i paid for a lifetime and i've always gone i've never like not gone
yeah because i've yeah
totally this second one i know you guys will not agree with me on this but a hundred percent in my
mind it's worth the money it's lululemon and i'm not saying this for the cutest stuff or the
trendiest stuff i'm talking about the quality of lululemon cannot be beat and you can give me all
the amazon dupes no no no sierra yoga doesn't compare none of them amazon leggings they're
not buttery soft they're not like the alliance the lululemon quality i have everything i still
have every stuff 10 years old i have this lime green tank top i got it when i was a sophomore
it's still perfect you don't dry it it's gonna last you forever to me that's worth the investment
i love it and i'm not saying there are other brands that are cute and good quality but if
you're going to spend that much money on leggings or a tank top for the gym let them last you 10
years you know and get two a year that's what i'm saying it's worth the money i love a gift me too
for christmas i always or my birthday i always ask my mother-in-law for gift cards to lululemon because i know i
i'll find something that i'm going to use forever and it's not usually like the trendy stuff that
goes out of style you'll wear it forever it's so good so good along similar lines i said a good
pair of tennis shoes yes and i said hokas because for me i feel like hokas are very universal like
i wear them to travel and walk around and then like they're my travel shoe meaning like i'll
wear them wherever we're going and i can also wear them to work out like they're very universal
whenever i have a pair of them i literally just wear the heck out of them and i have an internal
rule of like how often i can repurchase them but by the time i have hit that time like they have
gotten so much wear yeah like they have gotten like because it's because i'm like i literally
wear these every day and i wear them for most of the day right every day they're very comfortable
and i feel like your feet are something that like they can you want to get good supportive shoes
because your feel especially as we get older i just
think that's a good thing i think that's a good thing i think that's a good thing
about like my grandparents their feet have so many problems for sure and then they realize oh
i need to get these like expensive orthotics and these nice shoes it's like i'm not saying that's
never going to happen but like i think we could have done something along the way good supportive
footwear starts now yeah so let's just get that let's just invest in that when i started running
in college i used to get the worst shin splints and then i started to have knee issues and all
this stuff and i went to a run store and got my feet fitted for shoes shin splints went away it
was just such a clear
sign to me that i can't actually do the things i want to do if i don't have the equipment to help
me and when i do have the equipment to help me it makes doing the hard thing more enjoyable and more
motivating so i always recommend people like what do you want to do to get running i'm like go get
good shoes that aren't going to hurt your feet and they're not going to give you shin splints
yeah and i'd much rather have less shoes i don't have that many shoes yeah i don't care about that
i'd rather like have shoes that are very universal i can wear them a lot of different places for sure
the hokas are great my third one is direct flights i'm sorry
one thousand that's always going to be worth your money i think as i've gotten older the
the shift has gone from the shift is that my time is more important well also you're gonna get you're
gonna spend more in the airport getting food in between like on your layover yes they're like
that's thirty dollars just thirty bucks is the price that different like a hundred dollars maybe
if it's if it's over a hundred dollars i'm i will consider a layover to save but under a hundred
bucks i'm just gonna pay the extra a secret
to save my time with kids at this point oh if there's kids involved i will yeah we're gonna go
over a hundred but if it's like me and caleb and i'm trying to go inexpensive if it's less than a
hundred dollars i'm gonna pay for a direct yeah it's just it is so and then you're traveling you're
more susceptible to delays and issues and lost luggage and all this stuff it's just not worth
the headache it's not just get get on that plane and get to where you're going my next one was
permanent jewelry i actually really i know this is a trendy thing but i know myself and i know that
i'm gonna lock in on this one and i'm gonna lock in on this one and i'm gonna lock in on this one
i have for years i've worn my same jewelry for years and it's because they're good metals like
you are paying more because you want to have like the real metals but i literally don't take them
off because i can't take them off and i don't want to take them off and for me i'm not a jewelry girl
but i love to have accessories so i'm like i love that i don't have to think about this that is so
nice i don't want to think about it yeah i don't want to change it yeah this one i bought um caleb
from truly blessed jewels yeah i was gonna say truly blessed yeah i didn't get it permanent
because honestly there we were there a long time it was they were really busy that day at bachelorette
parties and we just kind of walked in but i kind of wouldn't mind it being permanent just not think
about it so nice yeah that's a great one i love my bracelet i don't really like to add other things
to it either that i switch on my earrings so i'm like that's plenty totally but i really basically
wear the same earrings every day too i don't want to make that decision too right outfit is plenty i
agree
my fourth one maybe a little controversial it's accutane another one i didn't buy
it can still be worth the money i'm thinking it's stuff that's worth the money
accutane my that is so not fitting your personality profile no i know wait what do
you mean why because i'm like i really need clean skincare i'll take a pill baby accutane
i will take a pill of poison to get rid of my acne yeah but i did a long time ago so in my head it's
passed what's been done is done
for six months for a lifetime cleanliness it is hard on your body i think it is yeah it was really
hard um i remember like my skin feeling i have allergies from it i still deal with people thank
you that's what i'm saying like i never have to spend i don't have to spend all the money in the
long run for expensive skincare and all this stuff you know it's just maintaining what i got when i
was 15 yeah it's hard it's really hard but i don't have the scarring that a lot of people get because
they just zapped it out it helped fix my skin so i've always been like i don't have the scarring
what's okay if our kids struggle with acne in high school let's like i would strongly
persuade to do accutane i just think it's worth it my sister had really bad sister acne totally
cleared her face up she's never struggled since no story even my dad used accutane like it's been
around a long time and i think he had like terrible sunburns for like no yeah you don't
want to do it in the summertime i did it during the school year so that i was winter um but you
get more dry then which is a little bit they have a lighter sunburn so it's a little bit
option too okay that my friend did who has insanely beautiful skin too really see that's
a thing i'm like i think it's just worth it and i remember when i started getting pimples i went in
and they started having me do all these different creams and these other things like they wanted me
to be on this medicine i would technically have to be on my whole life to continue to have clear
skin and that just was like i don't want to be on medication i have to take every month
for as long as i want clear skin and then when i go off who knows what's going to happen that's
so much more money so it's like permanent accutane yeah for me i know people have to do it more
multiple times really my skin wasn't that severe before but it was enough to be like yeah you could
do it i know worth it it was so worth it thank you mom addy's never had a pimple in her life
i don't know anything about accutane i don't really know much about it but i know something
about pimples yeah did you guys know people that went on it yeah i it was probably something they
didn't talk about often because it makes you really awkward i had some really goofy side
effects from it i i i got this allergy i don't know what i'm allergic to but it's something
in lotions and deodorants that now i get triggered from acutane that got triggered from accutane
i'm assuming because i never had it before but i would get when i was on accutane this full body
rash from my neck to my toes that it was almost looked like a baby prickly heat rash and it was
severe it was so itchy it would cover my whole body and i had to go to the dermatologist for it
i told you guys this and i walk in the dermatologist goes wow that's the worst i've ever seen are you
okay if i take a picture of that i got in the car and i cried i was so embarrassed i'm like oh it's
the worst he's ever seen it's the worst i dare from a doctor but yeah it'll make you a little
awkward for a bit but worth it in the long run worth it i have two more but i know you're only
supposed to have five oh so i'm just gonna say them together they're not related at all you have
six yeah okay um i did say an espresso maker and i'm actually gonna say it's not worth the money
in the sense like don't ever ask me to add up how many lattes i've made from it and like how much
cost and because i don't also think people really go to starbucks that often like i was not going
every day it wasn't a big problem i'm just saying for the simple joy factor i'm gonna convince you
that that is a good purchase based off of my what's not worth the money and that's my nespresso
machine really yeah but we'll talk about it on patreon oh i'm so curious okay so yeah i love
it's like one of those things i've had it for a while and every single morning i'm like
i'm so excited for my espresso i like really
like it and it's simply for the joy factor don't i don't want to try to say that it's worth it for
the money factor but it is worth the money no but i think it is i would say both you and your mom
have one and both of you are so joyful about making people coffee i love making it for other
people so your mom made me the most incredible ice latte for the pool uh when we went on cj's
birthday she makes them creamy it was so creamy i don't know what she did i didn't want to know
she's making this s'mores one i'm like you're crazy girl and it's delicious so good i'm like
it was better than anything i've ever bought out i was like this is the best ice coffee i've ever had
she bought little cups oh yeah it was so i should tell her that i didn't really give her praise for
it it was so good oh if you tell her that i just know because even for me i'm like when i hear that
i'm like i need to tell her i'm gonna tell her i'm doing something good with my life my last one
is the sublime cookie sandwiches from trader joe's every time that's worth it every time i go to
trader joe's without a doubt that is worth the money i'm putting that in my cart how much is it
for one box of four
four dollars five bucks six bucks maybe it's less than six okay good because i think the money and
the calories i think so too i'm like that's more so worth the cows that's a million percent worth
everything it satisfies it satisfies completely it does you're never left being like and they're
not small no i don't want something small honestly have you tried the cookies and cream one too no i
don't like cookies and cream oh it's actually so good the cookies and cream what happens is i eat
i cut in half i eat half of it and then i go and eat the other half
yeah
yeah
yeah
they're actually so sweet too but i like want the whole thing so good that's worth it every time
sublime cookie sandwiches trader joe's my last one was i said good pots and pans that's kind of
boring but um i don't want to be scrubbing pans and pots and i want to get a good like crisp on
my food right and i really like the um our place ones those we just switched to those not super
long ago a couple months ago and i'm like i don't want to be scrubbing pans and pots and i want to
months ago I'm really loving them they're so toxic the titanium ones they have a toxic and a non-toxic
yeah we have the titanium they're not advertised as toxic line but titanium is non-toxic i had to
look it up because i was confused and i was like how are they so clean because i looked that up i
was like oh those are cool um toxic they have the toxic line and the non-toxic line give me the
toxic the toxic one is not toxic until they get scratched right which my whole life is
choosing the toxic option and then just seeing how how much i outlive you guys
with the non-toxic yeah every time abby and i are doing something in the kitchen and i'll look
at it she'll be like oh yeah i'm getting the glass version i go because microplastics and
i go yeah you guys did that with the bowls for the kids on set guess what my mom tried to put
that in the microwave it's metal i know matt got the metal ones out for the kids i looked way deep
in there and got the plastic one we're gonna have a really good um like a test sample within the
microwave my dogs get microplastics all the time because they just eat all those pretzels has so
much microplastics i literally think about that all the time i'm like do you not care girl you're
gonna die you eat plastic you're eating a credit card a week guys a credit card a week we're like
those comedians you know like when they like circle back to their their one joke ours is
watching that microplastics documentary we just keep circling back we're very funny we are extremely
hilarious good thing you're listening to this all right let's do the five things that are not
worth the money okay on patreon we're gonna move this over to patreon because we've been talking a

jessa and i was just calling because i've been on a huge smoothie kick lately and i would like to
know what your favorite smoothie flavors are okay bye that's a cute question i'm sorry i'm having a
contraction yay it's not don't get excited but it's really just like distracting okay i'll go
first then i've been making this video for a long time and i've been making this video for a long
time and i've been making this video for a long time and i've been making this video for a long time
same smoothie for about eight years so i have it almost every day it is banana half a banana
spinach frozen strawberries frozen blueberries vanilla protein powder i like the clean simply
it's protein powder it's delicious um and almond milk and that's it so what's that flavor
berry i don't know but it's better when there's more blueberries than strawberries okay well i
have a couple categories for smoothies i have yummy smoothie
and i have healthy smoothies sometimes it doesn't taste really yummy yeah like that sounds healthy
it is a healthy smoothie um okay i love if i'm going like a protein shake place i love a pb and j
shake and they're not i would this is not healthy pb and j so it's peanut butter and
it's like peanut butter and wild berry i specifically like wild berry um it's delicious
i don't know what's in it and i don't want to know it's delicious um other smoothies
okay and then i'm like a refreshing smoothie is different than a protein smoothie i like once i
was just talking about this today in high school this was like my healthy smoothie okay um frozen
strawberries frozen pineapple apple juice and vanilla greek yogurt oh i do add vanilla greek
yogurt into mine okay or strawberry greek yogurt thanks for reminding me the yogurt adds makes it
a great texture yeah that was that's not a healthy one but it's really yummy you didn't think that's
healthy because the apple juice
apple there's nothing really actually substantial like no protein in it it's just yeah just the
yogurt which i would do like two scoops of it but um i have a couple protein shake recipes that are
like really healthy that i'm like but i'm like i can't really recommend it uh-huh i feel like
yeah smoothies are funny i i have to be in the mood for a peanut butter flavored smoothie because
it just overpowers everything else but i do like it with strawberries and bananas yeah but it's
just overpowering
mint chocolate is also a really good one that you can make it healthier too you're you're going into
the into the shake category yeah i would agree with that like a protein shake versus okay well
then i guess i don't i don't ever have smoothies do you remember when she was like oh i just made
that like a snack it was like that ice cream mint chocolate chip with the cookie for you
it's a light protein ice cream what's in it again halo top protein ice cream almond milk
protein powder and two oreo thins and ice yeah get mad at that no i'm not mad
get mad at it that just seems like rich for after the gym it's not you have to try it i love it i
love a rich smoothie after the whole pint of ice cream i'm not putting a whole pint in i like
the butterfinger shake from um one stop yeah the smoothie just needs to be yeah i know it's weird
um a smoothie just needs to be fruity well you're
you forgive me i'm doing the tilapia thing again screw you next question
please forgive me for my judgment okay
hi abby abby and addie this is val not the og but from connecticut and i was just wondering
how you guys decided to wean or how the weaning process started from breastfeeding my daughter's
almost one and i am looking forward to being done with breastfeeding but i know that i can make
it just one more month till she reaches her goal um but yeah just any tips on that whole process
thank you so she reaches her goal as in yeah i love that we do it for them i love that um
uh for us it was actually pretty easy yeah um for our second he weaned before i literally was ready
to i wanted to do a year but i feel like at 10 months i was like he's just not doing this anymore
and i don't really know how to force it i don't know how to force it i don't know how to force it
at this point anymore so he cut that one i didn't even have to wean him he weaned himself he was
done he was over it um my first i just started cutting feedings down until we were only doing
it morning and night and then i cut out the morning one and we're only doing it at night
um i think not nursing to get them to fall asleep has to happen long before you like wean because
then they need to find another way to fall asleep if it's just for like comfort at that point then i
feel like just to get them to fall asleep at that point is the best thing you can do for them
just snuggling and using binkies versus nursing is what we ended up doing and then so like i would
just hold him and rock him and then just stop nursing him at that point and then put him down
for bed just using other reasons to soothe i think you got to figure out why your kid is still
nursing like if it's like oh they actually are just like this is their food then that's different
then you go about it differently than if they're using it for comfort than if they're using it for
going to bed yeah because there's a lot more reasons for that yeah for sure
for sure yeah when they get a little older it's more of a comfort thing whereas it can be some
people i feel like some babies are still getting calories at that point yeah yeah i mean they don't
need to though at that point right yeah yeah it's not as like a necessity as a baby but then at that
point i would say like give them more calories during the day yeah exactly yeah so i cj went
over 11 months almost a full year and he weaned himself like i kept trying in the morning i think
i started cutting daytime feeds because he was getting a lot more from food and he was getting
formula too
after his six months so we nursed morning and night for like three or four months and he just
stopped caring like he didn't want to i'd try to latch him he'd come off i tried to latch him he'd
come off and then literally one time i was like he does not want to do this yeah oh you would like
turn his head yeah i was like he's just not interested in this so that made it really easy
but we did get to 11 months but he was just morning and night and then we supplemented during
the day vivian with both kids i had to start using formula at six months because my supply drops
drastically
and they both started losing weight stopped sleeping through the night like it was affecting
them so it made it easier with vivian i was like i'm okay with weaning um and i would just start
with one formula bottle at the craziest day for me at dinner time i started doing one formula bottle
and nursing all the other times and then i think each month i dropped a feed um and then when did
i stop nursing her eight and a half months it was recent but eight and a half months um
yeah i was like i think i'm done i'm done and she was really doing great with her formula which is
now she's been having some tummy issues but she didn't go with her formula she started eating
solids it just seemed like a really easy time to leave and she wasn't as i don't know i feel
like you stopped quickly with brielle i stopped at like six months not early necessarily but quick
yeah because she didn't care and i also i felt like i mean me being my type a type person with
like work and all the things it was just so much easier to just give her a bottle and me pump
and quicker for like me to get back to the things i needed to do i wasn't benefiting like i wasn't
getting anything from her being on me and she wasn't really caring either so i quickly just
switched to doing bottles and and pumping because it wasn't a comfort thing for either one of us
i would say she's still not like a cuddler or like a physical touch and maybe that's because
i'm not either and so we're just chilling but um we're just chilling together so i don't even yeah
i was thinking i'm like i don't even remember weaning because it just wasn't a thing it was just
this seems easier so we just switch yeah when when the baby decides to wean though i think you just
need to be careful about you still have to get it out at some point yeah yes i got myself in trouble
i thought i was done and they got a bad clog i would just start pushing my feed so if i didn't
i would like the dinner time feed i would skip it and then an hour later i would just pump a little
bit like not a ton but i would to not fully empty to like re you know i don't want to keep making
milk at that time and then once you skip it enough times and empty later um it just stops producing
you can also take an allergy pill oh shoot i didn't know that hack yeah that's fun okay last
question hi abby abby and addy i'm caitlin and i'm leah we're mother and daughter that look forward
to both podcasts every week and we love y'all so much we were wondering if you guys got arrested
with no explanation what would your friends assume you did thanks bye i think we answered
something similar with the husbands oh yeah um but that's hilarious that's so sweet that you
guys watch together i love that thank you guys for watching and supporting the show it's so fun
um okay if my friends well why don't you guys answer for me and i'll answer for you guys i mean
i would just assume you were falsely accused or something that's so nice like there's you're a
law-abiding citizen thank you actually i was just watching a documentary and this girl was
falsely in prison but she admitted to it because she literally was just like told that she did this
and she like they were like and she was like yeah i guess i oh my god i can't believe i did that
like i feel like you could maybe do that you'd be like i'm so sorry i didn't know
to do that i remember that i didn't mean to make you feel that way i guess i did i guess i did
um i don't know what you could be patty i don't think i can't really think you guys are law-abiding
citizens for me i i feel guilty i feel like i have done tax fraud because i don't know anything
about taxes we hired someone to do it because i was like i have no idea yeah and we have a weird
tax situation i'm just like waiting for them no i know what yours would be it's missing jury duty
because you didn't read your you didn't go to your mail so that's what you would get you would
go to jail for missing do you go to jail for that court appoint dates after the podcast last week i
i got i didn't get summoned after the podcast but blake opened the mail and i got summoned for jury
you're kidding i want to be in it i asked blake i said can you ask your boss how i can actually be
chose for jury duty not the other way around i want to be picked you just have to be an unbiased
which you are unbiased i'm gonna
um
unbiased normal hopefully my group because they just they have to pick your group to even go
so i'm waiting and hoping my my group gets picked i filled all my dad was on jury duty for a homicide
that's what i want think about that that's rare that's crazy i want that for me but it's such a
commitment i didn't try to think about what you're get arrested for right now our license plate on
our car we just have a temporary tag because we still haven't gotten it and it's expired
i did get pulled over by a police officer and i'm like oh my god i'm so sorry i'm so sorry i'm so sorry
i had no idea that it was expired right currently right now what i would get arrested for is so niche
so niche okay just put this out there put it out there the husband and wife law team are doing
youtube videos about the bricks and minifigs stuff and they're gonna get mad that they're doing stuff
about it and so then the store owners are gonna come and they're gonna say something that we did
wrong that we have drugs in our car or something and then they're gonna come and arrest us you're
gonna get framed yeah i'm gonna get yes that's good that's good so niche perfect go support
has been my fault too many too why are you you're such a sweet wife i don't even know what you guys
are saying brixton minifigs it's a franchise it's briggs briggs is in legos minifigs is like
minifigurens of legos think of like a gamestop bricks and minifigs it's kind of like a game
i think it was someone named brixton and then mint versus minifigs it's a franchise that's a scam
okay always hungry always hungry always hungry i'm gonna do this white chicken chili soup sorry
it's summertime but nothing beats a little white chicken chili i feel like white chicken chili
feels summery it totally does because it has the corn and the green onion and not the green onion
but the pepper the green pepper in it the white beans are the white beans it's summery it's so
good either with a tortilla chip or a big crusty bread by the way do you have any of that crusty
bread that you made yeah i want some of that before i leave take it crusty bread
she made it on sunday we never cracked it open just like a sourdough it's just yeah i just want
some of it crusty bread it looks good and crusty it wasn't as crusty but you can make it crusty
perfect um have i ever shared my sourdough cinnamon rolls because we've just been i've
been making them i i'm gonna have to write it down i don't have a link because it's kind of
not listen these are the best cinnamon rolls i've ever had thank you guys people talk about
these cinnamon rolls it makes me feel so loved you want to know what my hot take is what
i like the ones for the shower better than the ones on sunday crazy i know right were they made
differently um it's sourdough is just one of those things you can't really oh it's not a
controlled substance also the sour levels can change sometimes i also just think i get a little
carefree with it oh i've never noticed a difference in the taste okay i'm not eating them every day
to notice here's what i like about the sourdough back to back yeah they're back yeah here's what
i like about the sourdough cinnamon rolls i actually think they're easier than regular
cinnamon rolls because you don't have to double rise them you
literally just do it rise that one time and the sourdough kind of offsets the sweetness of the
cinnamon roll and this was a recipe that was given to me by a friend it was delicious and now i like
to make them they're actually really easy they're so good but and they're fun to make
caleb told me in the car after on the way home after sunday dinner he said every time you make
rolls are kind of dry but every time abby does them they're really good rolls he's like they're
really good that's just in general words no i agreed with him every time i make rolls they're
rolls they are kind of dry i think i need a new recipe matt complimented another woman's cookies
and it actually caused a fight well i don't think it didn't bother me because it's true
if it was like no he was right about this as well
and i actually was like matt how dare you
and then now he's like afraid to compliment other women's
cookies
that's a me problem i'm gonna work on that oh my gosh i was watching youtube and of the video
popped up and when we visited you guys in hawaii and matt pranked did a prank of when um he
pretended he hated your food and spit it out at dinner with us and then caleb did the musical
theater throw up do you remember that no he's like this is how normal people throw up this is
how musical theater people throw up that is how matt throws up caleb do it's crazy i'm like literally
just do it a little bit like the walls are shaking in this house waking everybody up okay that was
great well in closing this was a fun scattered this was a really long chatty episode but um i'm
not gonna be here for the next couple weeks so you guys we have something nice surprise be nice

it's just not a vacation book it's not a fun i need a romance book for a vacation okay it's not
funsies should i listen to it on um it's higher speed oh just listen in general you don't need
it doesn't need to be on higher speed but if you're gonna listen you can listen um did you
