Speaker 1Hey, this is Amy. And this is Lindsey. This is Girl Talk Live. We are so pumped that you're here with us as we unpack how being a girl and
Speaker 2being a mom is the best when you're walking and talking with Jesus every day and seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness. So grab your Bible and let's get started. Happy Fall! Yay! We have our squirrels and our pumpkins. Pumpkins, squirrels, and acorns.
Speaker 1Acorn juice. Yep. I stepped in an orange yesterday. I heard it and I instantly
Speaker 2smelled it. I smattered it.
Speaker 1You smattered it. Yep. Right when I stepped on my big foot. Uh-huh. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2Well, wonder what the orange is. I don't know what the orange was doing on the floor. I don't know. Yeah. Just funny things that happen in our house.
Speaker 1Welcome to Fall. If you're with your group, you should go around. Just pause it. Yeah. And go around. And if you haven't already told everyone your name, you should just definitely go around and tell everyone your name and tell them your favorite Fall treat.
Speaker 2Fall treat. Or smell.
Speaker 1Or smell. Yeah.
Speaker 2Pumpkin spice. Fall. Roasted marshmallow. Marshmallows. Roasted or toasted?
Speaker 1Roasted. Roasted acorns. Toasted marshmallows. Oh, toasted marshmallows are on sweet potato casserole.
Speaker 2Mmm. And pecan pie. Roasted marshmallows are when you
Speaker 1roast them over the fire. Toasting them, you toast them in the oven.
Speaker 2but you rose turkeys in the oven
Speaker 1well um you taste toast you taste brandon the toaster
Speaker 2fall fall is great okay but even before the pumpkins because it's still september i mean yeah it's not really it's not even october yet and the rule in my house is no pumpkins until october but i did it this weekend because i couldn't do it this next weekend when it turns
Speaker 1october yeah it's still party season if you missed out on all of our social media this week it was her birthday and she's the queen so we celebrate all september along with no pumpkins no
Speaker 3pumpkins until october
Speaker 1okay lots and lots of cake all
Speaker 2the cake and pedophores lemons the strawberry cake chocolate cake and then in october we bring out the pumpkins and oh but early early october is when you do the rice krispy treats with the melted chocolate yeah so that's coming
Speaker 1october is this week yeah yeah so yeah super fun but yeah so if you've been following along with us if you haven't then you should go back but you can just play this one and then start again because it's fine but we're talking about prayer which is super fun because you know
Speaker 2prayer's the best yeah and
Speaker 1you know you can't know anyone unless you spend time with them and talk to them and like that's it so praying is talking last week we talked about what is prayer and um it's just talking and a lot of other things so you should definitely go check that
Speaker 2one out just the relationship yeah your relationship with god yes so
Speaker 1this week we're talking about what the purpose of prayer is because obviously everything has to have a purpose especially if you're seven and you need purpose in all things and um different different purposes for different things you can't just have one purpose because then life gets boring um so we have variety it's the spice of
Speaker 2life yeah we use lots of spices in october for sure all year long
Speaker 1really yes so prayer has a lot of purposes but really just all leading into prayer is our relationship with christ
Speaker 2prayer is the relationship but the main purpose of prayer is what for all you note takers number one well the title is the purpose of
Speaker 1prayer purpose of
Speaker 2prayer number one is
Speaker 1everything has a purpose it truly does have a purpose and what we like we like to um quit our dearest greatest friend catherine wolf on if you have a pulse you have a purpose and so we all we know that there is purpose to all things so there is a purpose to prayer and we've kind of gotten our equation for what is it keep going i'll get to it
Speaker 2in a second okay
Speaker 1so there's a purpose right there okay so um the purpose of prayer is to like this is like your the purpose of prayer if you're taking notes um here's your title and then if you need like a little summary it's like the purpose of prayer is to it it is our relationship with christ like it is it's not just to grow it like it's just it just is prayer is our relationship with god and then we have that our relationship with christ which grows in prayer it is prayer it grows us and grows yeah it grows us and then it that grows the kingdom and grows our purpose in helping others find their purpose and it's just the jesus us it's just the diagram it's so fun the triangle the
Speaker 2pyramid yeah so so the first thing that we're going to talk about is jesus our relationship with jesus and because i like everything to have a purpose we all have a purpose prayer has a purpose talking about the purpose of prayer and how it is i keep turning back it's right here oh that's okay it is our relationship because and here's your first thing your first bullet romans 8 it's not just 8 29 it's 8 28 because i knew like when she was saying that i had it in my mind but you know i'm the one that just kind of gets the words every now and then and she kind of knows the addresses of everything and so i i had the word um called according to his purpose that's romans 8 28. we know and that's the one that's more than conquerors we know that all things that in all things god works for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his purpose okay so he so there's god yeah his purpose his purpose we are fulfilling his purpose but romans 8 29 says for those god foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his son okay so that is the purpose of prayer our constant walking with and talking to jesus and hearing from jesus through his word conform conforms us into his
Speaker 1likeness yes and jesus says be holy for i am holy that's right which is his likeness and his standard i was thinking about it this morning like there's so many things you can say for christ's standard like what is christ's the standard of christ and it's so cool because like it really there isn't like there aren't a bunch of verses that just say like jesus was kind it's just like everything you read about jesus he was kind you know yeah but there's righteousness there's purity there's goodness there's gentleness there's kindness there's self-control obviously the fruits of the spirit all of those things but it's so cool so you know the the excuse of well i'm just not perfect like i just can't do that like i'm just i'm a sinner and jesus loves me anyways but i'm gonna mess up like that's just and it's false it's a demerit because like yeah like you're not gonna wake up and just make all like you're not gonna bat a thousand that's what my pastor always said you're not not everyone's gonna bat a thousand every single day but like you know a bunt is just as good as a home run you can still get a score on it so like you you're waking up and thinking well i'm just probably not gonna hit the ball today so might as well just not even you know the quote that's like don't be don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game so it's basically that like would you just not get up to bat because you're not going to hit a home run like that you wouldn't be on the team you'd be benched so that's what we're doing when we dismiss ourselves as like well i'm just not perfect because jesus gives us everything we need in holy spirit to be exactly like him and to live out our lives for him because that's why he came yeah like jesus came and walked the earth he didn't have to like but he chose to walk on earth not just to die for us but to show us that like it is completely humanly possible to live the way that he lived and it's so easy to be like well he was god too well like we have holy spirit in us and jesus said that we have we are going to do greater things than even he did because we have holy spirit in us and he like he had god with us he had holy spirit too but like we we have the same exact thing that jesus
Speaker 2walked with so it's funny um first peter 1 15 says be holy for i am holy and second peter 1 3 says his divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness so no excuses no excuses better
Speaker 1up better up so we walk in prayer in constant communication which is verse s lennon's 5 16 through you can go all the way way to 24 because it's all good it's all it's the constant communication and it's also the sharpening of the spirit because if we are remaining in him which it's rejoicing always pray constantly give thanks and everything for this is god's will for you in christ jesus it says don't stifle the spirit don't despise prophecies but test all things hold on to what is good stay away from every kind of evil and like we said oh you got right there yeah like we said um there's no good thing in us apart from christ and so to remain in him always is to pray always constantly um rejoice always give thanks in all things like if we remain in that mindset all day long because the bible tells us we have the mind of christ like we have we are completely capable of staying in his mindset all day then we won't stifle the spirit and we we will hold on to what is good and we will stay away from every kind of evil because the enemy runs like he he can't be around evil just like god can't be like he god can't be around evil just like the devil doesn't want to be around good like darkness doesn't want to be around light and light dispels the darkness so the lighter we are the further away darkness runs because you know you're in a dark room and you turn one little light on it's no longer no longer dark and that's who we are in christ and who we have because of holy spirit and that's why that is the purpose
Speaker 2of prayer and that um is romans 8 setting your mind walking in the spirit that's i mean that's the the first part of the whole i mean romans 8 is our whole life as a believer anyway just walking in the spirit setting your mind on the spirit and and on what the spirit desires yeah those who live according to the desires but those who live in accordance with the spirit have their minds set on what the spirit desires so again it's really just a john 15 we're throwing lots of verses but y'all this is this is the whole of scripture god tells us we can live like jesus because he's given us the ability through his word and holy spirit so that's why um we're giving you this and it's just that daily being open and accountable to others and ultimately god which is psalm 139 and in the beginning the beginning the beginning of psalm 139 says what it says
Speaker 1lord you have searched me and you do know me when i sit down and when i stand up you understand my thoughts far away so it already says like you know where i'm going you know when i rest you're aware of all my ways so it says oh you just keep reading the whole thing before a word is on our tongue like god knows like god knows anything it says like where can i go to escape your spirit like we can't go anywhere without god knowing so why are we running you know like yeah there's just there's no benefit to running from god there's no like productivity to running from god like there he already knows everything and we're just exhausting ourselves running from him because we were made for him we were made to worship him we were made for our identity identity in him yes and we were made to be in constant communication with him and in a relationship with him that is the whole purpose of why we were made and so as we run away from him every time we choose ourselves and choose the world and choose our flesh and choose sin and evil and the devil and all that we're just exhausting ourselves for no purpose at all and that's that's no way to live we have to have a purpose in every day right so
Speaker 2the way to embrace his love and his purpose for our lives and his plan for our lives is to be accountable to him and to others and that is psalm the end of psalm 139 verse 23 that says search me oh god and know my heart test me and know my anxious thoughts and see if there's any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting yes and that's just humility that is our humility before a holy god and that's just humility that is our humility before a holy god and that's just humility before a holy god and that's just humility before a holy god before our parents before um before our parents before um before our parents before um just anyone because we will always be just anyone because we will always be just anyone because we will always be under someone um whether it's parents under someone um whether it's parents under someone um whether it's parents teachers an employer your boss the the teachers an employer your boss the the teachers an employer your boss the the police you know we have to follow the police you know we have to follow the police you know we have to follow the speed limit a judge whatever we are speed limit a judge whatever we are speed limit a judge whatever we are ultimately always under God and and you ultimately always under God and and you ultimately always under God and and you know the other verse says he opposes the know the other verse says he opposes the know the other verse says he opposes the crowd but gives grace to the humble and crowd but gives grace to the humble and crowd but gives grace to the humble and so when we humble ourselves and and ask so when we humble ourselves and and ask so when we humble ourselves and and ask him to show us our sin then that's the him to show us our sin then that's the him to show us our sin then that's the best place to be it really is it's like best place to be it really is it's like best place to be it really is it's like you know because he always loves us no you know because he always loves us no you know because he always loves us no matter what but do we really want to be matter what but do we really want to be matter what but do we really want to be that child that's constantly running off that child that's constantly running off that child that's constantly running off having to be yanked back and sat in having to be yanked back and sat in having to be yanked back and sat in time out I mean do you want to be the one time out I mean do you want to be the one time out I mean do you want to be the one that's constantly in trouble or do that's constantly in trouble or do that's constantly in trouble or do you want to be the one saying hi what can I you want to be the one saying hi what can I you want to be the one saying hi what can I do for you today and how how can I do for you today and how how can I do for you today and how how can I be better because you know I mean if you be better because you know I mean if you be better because you know I mean if you look at if you look at the little kids even in preschool or whatever if you have a if you have siblings if you you know there's always one that's just running to do whatever they want all the time and then there's usually a helper close by saying can I help you with something what would you like or what can I do you know who who do you naturally who are you naturally drawn to so the reason we're naturally drawn to the helper is because that's because we're made in the image of God I mean he loves us all but they're you know definitely truths and courses and ways of thing yes
Speaker 1so um down here we're talking about yeah this psalm 139 is the same that you every person that has a phone should have someone else looking at their phone besides just them there should be nothing on your phone that is not seen right now by someone else and that's like like it doesn't matter how old you are like I'm not just talking to teenagers I'm not talking to girls I'm not just talking to like every person and really like as a parent you should be modeling not only expecting that from your child but modeling it also because we all should be accountable to someone because that's the model that Christ has given us and so as we ask God to search us and know our hearts and know everything about us to be accountable to under him because we always someone always needs to be checking us and like always needs to have access there's nothing in our lives that should be secretive because sin happens in secret and it doesn't happen like the light exposes all the darkness light exposes sin and so that's just always a good like practical just part the purpose of prayer is accountability and that's if we're walking with Christ like we want other people to be walking with us because like the the enemy wants us isolated the enemy wants us ashamed and secretive and sneaking around and manipulating things so that we stay like out of it and so that's just you know side note to life is that you know in our purpose of prayer and in our accountability we should also be sharing that with at least one other person but yeah so our relationship with God our purpose of prayer in our relationship with God is the constant communication the accountability the sharpening and then worship is what we talked about all last semester which kind of it starts that really starts with it but that's just Thanksgiving and the attitude of Christ and just you know thanking him and being in constant worship because really like if you're always worshiping like you can't be complaining and that's why that that's another like practical just like you know if you're always thanking someone or like asking how you can help them or encouraging someone like you can't be encouraging and like complaining at the same time yeah you can't be encouraging or criticizing yeah you can't be thankful and complaining at the same time you can't be talking bad about someone and talking good about them at the same time like it just the way that Jesus it like Jesus didn't like like he didn't put his foot on the cross like he didn't he didn't just put his hand on the cross like he put his whole body on the cross and so he didn't just like halfway die for us like he died completely for us and so that's like you can't you can't have him and the world like he like he didn't die with just one foot on the cross that they were both there and so we can't sit on the fence like he says in Revelation like it says he literally like is going to like throw us up like no except for you no one likes lukewarm coffee you know
Speaker 2like except for me was he gonna throw me up
Speaker 1she's not lukewarm let me tell you trust me but I'm just saying I feel like everyone
Speaker 2drink my lukewarm coffee now it's probably always not just lukewarm nobody likes lukewarm
Speaker 1food except for you but like sometimes
Speaker 2out of necessity yeah put it that way
Speaker 1but I was just kidding but like I just think it's funny cuz like I like my food like burning my mouth and um or like I don't really know don't really like freezing cold food that's weird except it's like chicken salad i i really kind of prefer my chicken salad to be cold but i'll eat it warm it's fine we really like food and really like to talk about food so we won't get over that job because i'm really hungry um but uh i'm sorry i'm trying to be closer to you um okay so yes knowing him knowing our heart his heart knowing him knowing his heart and spending time with him is the purpose of prayer because it is our relationship with him with
Speaker 2and that results in worship and so when when we see ourselves kind of veering off of what we know we're supposed to be doing we just turn to worship because it helps us remember who he is and who we're not and we praise who he is and and then come into his presence and then we're restored into relationship with him and then we get back on track our next point is number two for taking notes yes is um how prayer results in growth
Speaker 1yes because as our relationship with christ grows through prayer we it's inevitable inevitable uh-huh that we are going to grow because as we become more like christ we become more like christ
Speaker 2as we spend more time with him and seeing how he lived and and putting more of his word in us it's just a naturally you know we were meant to grow things you know when god made the world he created it to reproduce itself you know trees reproduce themselves flowers reproduce themselves everything reproduce themselves yes everything is constantly growing and changing um and we are meant to also and we do that by the discipline of we eat so our bodies can grow um you know the bible talks about how babies crave milk and it's just like when we are new christians we what is that verse we eat steak not
Speaker 1when we're new
Speaker 2christians no nope we have the milk of the word but at some point yeah we have to grow into the solid food of the word which is uh what jesus did which is doing god's will yes i was thinking about how weird it would be if we were all born full size i can't even talk about that i can't even talk about that that's so
Speaker 3the milk of the word
Speaker 2why can't you talk about that oh no because that's just not part of our video today that is not part of that's not on the paper yeah on you just said it you
Speaker 1said we were meant to grow and i was saying what if we were born full size but we're not and that's the
Speaker 2beautiful part of how god made
Speaker 1things exactly that's the point we were
Speaker 2made to grow we were made to grow so we are when we are new creations god says the old is gone the new has come and we are made to grow and we are made to grow
Speaker 3first corinthians 3 2 3 2 first corinthians 3 2 yeah i gave you milk not solid food for you are not
Speaker 2yet ready for it indeed you are still not ready you are still worldly oh that was what paul said to the corinthians oh he was calling them out because they were not growing yes so um so that proves that we are supposed to grow we are not born but but when it talks about jesus going around he ate his food with meat he talked about his food being meat so the bible even talks about us needing different food as we grow in our relationship with jesus we just talked about um the milk of the word where paul was calling out the corinthians saying you know i can only give you milk right now because you're still babies but when jesus walked on the earth there was one time when the disciples came up to him and they were like we haven't eaten you haven't eaten you need something to eat and they were like talking about real food for his stomach and he said in john 4 32 he said i have food to eat that you know nothing about and then his disciples said to each other did somebody bring him food who called the takeout who called doordash who brought him chick-fil-a and didn't bring us in right and he said my food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work so jesus was saying that his food is to do the will of the father which ultimately is what is going to sustain us when we see and when we grow so much in jesus that we see that nothing in the world will ever satisfy us it is only doing god's will that satisfies us and we so we go back to first thessalonians 5 16 where it says be thankful and joyful in all circumstances for this is god's will for you in christ jesus so just as i say new believers no matter your stage and your walk with jesus it is always god's will for us to be thankful and then he also shows us along the way wherever where things change if we need to do certain things go here to go there whatever
Speaker 1yeah and next week we're talking about the power of prayer and it's super cool because it's kind of the same purpose and power purpose has power power has purpose and but the the purpose of prayer is to make us more like christ and it is all like everything we just said like it's so much of like we grow the only way to truly grow because we're made in the image of christ is to grow closer to him because if you're not you're not growing because that's not what we were meant for and so you're really just like again it goes back to that like you can either have this or have that and you're either growing or you're not growing and you're going in christ or you're not growing so it's just kind of you know black and white and you're either growing or you're not um pretty just like straightforward and as we grow like prayer the purpose of prayer is to give us that like attitude of christ in the mind of christ to choose the right thing to do the right thing to choose the truth and it goes into like i mean we've talked really through worship and identity is so much of like being able to see the truth and who we are and what we are made for because that's where the truth is and our favorite analogy of this is the brownies and the fruit you know because i just had this idea that if there was brownies on the table and fruit on the table you pick the fruit because you know it's better for you and you have the two options and like you're like the only reason you choose the wrong thing is because there isn't a good option to choose but apparently that isn't correct i don't really know i'd probably put the fruit on the brownie
Speaker 2tell me you would choose fruit when brownies were sitting on the table
Speaker 1yeah for sure i mean you go to chick-fil-a and you choose the grilled nuggets over the real nuggets
Speaker 2don't you i have before but in a weak moment i usually just choose whatever i want and
Speaker 1there's the cookie and the brownie and the milkshakes and you choose the
Speaker 2fruit cup because i have learned to say no but before now now that's been a long time coming that's been a lot of years so the purpose of
Speaker 1prayer is to give us the discipline to be able to choose the fruit when the brownies are right next to it right this is where this is going i know there was a purpose
Speaker 2to this once i learned and grew and who i was and who god was or god is and who he made me to be i had grown yeah into um the ability to make those decisions that help me and that don't hurt him and
Speaker 1that is the purpose of prayer yay so we we dominate our feelings we dominate our feelings as we
Speaker 2grow stronger in
Speaker 1christ yes we learn there's the feelings that want the brownies it wants the world it wants the world it wants our flesh it wants do whatever you want it'll be fine tomorrow you'll still wake up maybe maybe you won't wake up you don't ever know why would you ever chance it when you have it right here where the life and the truth and the joy and the peace and the patience and the kindness and the gentleness and the self-control he's all right there and he literally just wants you to walk towards him and he does everything else like all he wants from you is your heart and like go always go back to that song that it's like my father his house or something like that that says like he never wanted perfect he never wanted perfect he just wanted my heart and like that's what the world that's what the enemy tells us every day is you're not perfect you can't do it why even try and he didn't he never asked us to be perfect he told us be holy as i am holy but that's only through him in the vine being connected to him in prayer every day constant communication sharpening account accountability worship all the things like that's the purpose of prayer because we can't be like christ without him and that's where we dominate our feelings and we don't just tolerate them and we don't just say like oh well i'll do better tomorrow like things will be better when i get this age once i get out of high school once i get out of college because honestly like nobody knows and why would you waste your life on the world when that has nothing to do with our eternity at all and you're gonna get to where you're supposed to be and you're gonna get to what you were meant for and you're gonna have nothing and that's not what we were going to do that's true there's
Speaker 2a whole nother thing about that it's not what we were
Speaker 1created for at all and so we are letting the enemy trick us and lie to us and defeat us because like we always say like he's already defeated he has already lost he's already defeated he's already alone he has absolutely nothing and he wants you to forget that like that's not what you're called for that's not that is not your destiny at all and he knows that and he wants you to forget that and so it really just wraps it all back into like our prayer life is to fuel us for what we were made for and that's not only in a relationship with christ but to bring others to christ to further his kingdom and advance his purposes and not only our lives but every life around us because just like you weren't meant for that neither was he and neither was her and neither were all the people around you because we were meant to need jesus we all had a friend each other and it's all there and it's all coming and it's all it's not the end until never because we have eternity with christ so we're not
Speaker 2we're not saying you're not going to struggle we're not saying that you're going to wake up and it's going to be easy but we're saying that you have a friend walking with you in all moments and all you have to say is jesus help me jesus help that's all you have to say and and he does and he um will provide a way out of temptation there's that verse yeah always forget the the address but there is that verse where no temptation has overcome you except that which is common to man and where you when you are tempted he will provide a way out and the enemy is always going to tempt you the the enemy is always going to tempt you and the enemy is always going to tempt you because he's trying to get you to slip and to either regret it be ashamed hide it um think you're not good enough whatever but that all you have to do is say jesus help me whether you're mad at somebody or you're in a situation to watch something you shouldn't watch or say something you shouldn't say or do something you shouldn't do that you know is not good for you and not good for somebody else all those things there is a way out and you are worth it and and it will be better when you choose the right thing you will every choice matters and it's it's good it's so good choosing jesus is
Speaker 1always better yeah and i think like talking about going back to like having that accountability like person is like because like you said we're always going to be tempted like it's not like the stronger you get the more tempted you're going to get and honestly i can say that probably if not every day it's a pretty often occurrence of like if i slow down long enough to actually like have a thought that i shouldn't have like i'm always fighting like how much easier it would be to just go watch something that i know i shouldn't watch or text someone i know i shouldn't text or say something like it's so easy to just go watch something that i know i shouldn't because those thoughts like they do come like and even like i'm saying that i struggle with that and like and so we're not just like telling you like oh you're probably going to do this like we know because we have it too like we there's thoughts that come in our head and things that like it would be so much easier to choose what the enemy wants us to choose but like that's not what we are created for and you're you're gonna feel worse like that's never gonna help you and like that's what we're going to do and that's what we're going to do and that's what we're going to do have to remember and that's why that person that you can tell like we can always tell god and just like um psalm 139 says like he already knows he knows what we feel and the fact that he knows every single thing and he still loves us he still chose to do what he did for us he still chose to make us like he still chose us and he knows everything and he gives us the people so that we can tell them and like that's really like some some days like the only thing that keeps me like in really hard situations is knowing that like if i were to do that if i were to like text that person if i were to watch that thing like i would have to tell like i'd have to tell you and i don't want to and like sometimes that's literally the only thing that we can go out off of but like that's who christ like jesus knows that and he did that and he like that's the point and like that's why like there's two squirrels right here because like we need jesus and we need each other for that exact purpose and that is the purpose of prayer and it's the purpose of prayer with christ and it's the purpose of relationship and community and fellowship and accountability with the people that he gave us because i can't remember if it was in this video or the last one but we can trust jesus in himself and we can trust jesus in the people that he gave us and like that's it like that's what prayer does in our lives is it grows us and it sharpens us and it keeps us accountable to who we can be in christ and we have so much more to say all about prayer and all the power that it gives us um so we want you to see jesus in all things so we
Speaker 2want you to know the joy that comes in the abundant life that he came to give us now not just in heaven but today and tomorrow and however long you are on this earth you can be filled with joy because you are filled with all the fullness of christ and that is why the beginning of our podcast says join us as we talk about how walking and talking with jesus and holy spirit every day and seeking his righteousness first helps us be her be the best mom we can be and the best girl we can be you know all those things so yes
Speaker 1it's the best so fun and we love you and jesus loves you and
Speaker 2y'all have a great week thanks for joining us see you soon
