Speaker 1Yes. Thanks for joining us. This is Fall. Welcome to Fall. I like Fall. You already got your sweatshirt on. It's freezing in here. I went outside to warm up before I came in because I was already just really freezing and the hot coffee was not helping. So we lead Girl Talk and we're super excited that you're here. Yes. I already said that. But there's a lot of people. There are a lot of people that are joining us and want to know more about Girl Talk. They're like, well, we've kind of heard about it, but we don't really know anything about it. And if
Speaker 2you're wondering what our names are, I'm Lindsey. I'm a mom. I'm married. And together, my husband and I have 10 children. And we were both previously married for about 17 years separately with our own five children. And then our spouses left us. And then the Lord. Kind of put us together. And it's been a blessing ever since. So he's a wonderful man. He knows Jesus. He loves the Lord. And I just can't believe my life has ended up like this. But it was all because I just wanted Jesus the most.
Speaker 1Yeah. It's super cool. And I get to be the 11th kid that claims his spot with both of their kids. So it's super fun. And I'm Annie Kate. And I don't really have anything about myself. I just. Love Jesus and love Girl Talk. And this is our 9th year of Girl Talk. We just finished our 9th summer. So that's super exciting. Never thought I would still be doing this at 27. I started when I was 19. And it's been super great. The coolest thing right now about Girl Talk is that my social media, which if you know anything about me, I hate social media and I hate my phone. And I would like throw it out the window if I didn't have to pay so much money for it.
Speaker 2And. Didn't really use it every day.
Speaker 1But like it used to be middle school girls, moms, like little kids and like love all of that obviously because that's what Girl Talk is. But now like it's so much college and like it's because our oldest girls are all now in college and it's just super cool to see the lives that have like we have seniors in college that were with us in middle school. That's so neat. And so it's super cool just to see how like. Not only Girl Talk's growing because we still have the fifth and sixth graders with us, but now we have girls that are like getting ready to finish college and get married. And it's just super fun to just see the amount of just all the seasons that all of our girls and moms and families are all in. So that's one thing that, you know, about me, I think.
Speaker 2I don't know. She's been doing this for about eight, nine years now.
Speaker 1Yeah. But the cool thing about Girl Talk now is that because of COVID. And because of growing so much and because of gas prices and just all the things that have made the last year and a half, two years, like absolutely crazy. Like Girl Talk has just had this surge and it's been super cool to just see how the Lord has like grown it and like brought us together and just made it just so much more possible to do so many things. And we're on this camera because of that.
Speaker 2To speak to so many of you where you are that are just hungry for Jesus. And hungry for the better that you know is possible. Yes. Because one of my favorite psalms is, y'all, I'm not the numbers person. I'm the, like the talking person. She's the one that remembers all the numbers, but I'm definitely praying to remember them. It's either Psalm 33 or Psalm 63. I can't remember which one.
Speaker 1Both of them are great.
Speaker 2Yes. Both of them are great and I love them both, but I can't remember which one says which now. They kind of run together. But it says, because your love is better than life. My lips. Will glorify you. And that's just the, you know, the psalmist was pouring out his heart to God, which is what we'll get into. But because of your hunger for that better that you know is out there, that's why we're doing this. And that's why we're so excited that the good thing that is coming out of quarantine is the surge in our community, which is you. So thank you for being here. Yes. We meet y'all everywhere.
Speaker 1Like we see so many of y'all everywhere. And like. I had the other day, I was like, one day we're going to see a Girl Talk shirt somewhere and like we're not going to know them. And so really counting on you for that to happen. And we're super excited that that's even like a thought in our head because we love y'all so much and love just getting to, to be together, you know, in the way that we get to be like that we dreamed like maybe five years from now we would get to do it and we're getting to do it now.
Speaker 2And your community that you're growing with the people around you.
Speaker 1So yeah. Yeah. Further than we could ever do ourselves. So we're super thankful for y'all. And with all of that is the app that has, is becoming what we want. But right now it's a little temporary, but that's where you'll find all the studies. This, this semester studies, the last two, we have two semesters on there. We have this one. And then if you've heard about our heart issues that we're writing, that we wrote last summer that we're developing now, we'll end up having three years of studies. Yeah. You can take from fifth grade all the way into college, which is super cool. And we have a whole video that we did because Lindsay's way better at everything than I am, but she's way better at talking about more experience. She's better at explaining all of that because, you know, if I explain things, I'm like, yeah, I just wrote something and it's really not that good. So it's fine. Lindsay's really good at having a dream.

Speaker 1right there. And it is good. I'm not saying it's not because Holy Spirit definitely did all of it. So we just get to talk about it and have fun and make videos for you. So it's definitely super fun. But this is our third semester of heart issues and we're in prayer. We're doing prayer. So like, why, what is prayer? Like, why is prayer a heart issue? Like, why did we pick heart issues?
Speaker 2Because it's. Prayer is not just a thing we do. Prayer is our communication with God. So when it's just like anything that comes out of your mouth, that's what we're. I was just thinking about a few minutes ago and I looked it up and it's Matthew 12, 34 says for out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. So you're. So the reason prayer is a heart issue is because since it comes out of our mouth, because it's a relationship with God, it's a heart issue. Just like a relationship, just like we cover relationships. That's another topic that we cover in heart issues. So really, since prayer comes out of our heart, because it comes out of our mouth, it's a heart issue.
Speaker 1I was thinking about, you're thinking about Matthew 12 and I was thinking about Jeremiah 29, 12, because it says that when we seek him with all of our heart, we're going to find him. And so that just, I don't know, that just made me think about prayer because seeking him with all of our heart, like involves that relationship that you're just talking about and like the constant, consistent, like conversation that we're going to talk about this semester of like what prayer really is. And you can't have a relationship without conversations, without like seeking and asking and honesty and just all of that, that we, we do study in relationships and we know it if we have any type of relationship. If we have any type of relationship, you can't just like not put effort into it. And so that's part of what we're going to talk about. But really just like we talked about what is prayer. Yeah. I think the coolest, the like two top things that we're going to start with is the purpose and the power of prayer. And honestly, I'm just excited for me and for you because you're so good at prayer. Like not good at prayer, but like, I've learned so much about prayer and like my prayer life has gotten so much better because of you. And so it's super cool that we just get to walk through this together and taking so much of like what you've taught me and putting it into this and like getting to talk about it so that y'all can talk about it with us and learn so much about it because it really does like prayer changes your life when you allow it because it's so powerful.
Speaker 2It really is. And to everything she's saying about what I've taught her is only because Holy Spirit taught me in a day before all the YouTube videos and all the, I mean, I had a book in my Bible and that was all I had. I didn't wake up. I didn't have apps, you know, to help me study. I didn't have all the stuff that y'all have now, which can be good, but can also be a distraction because God's word is always the best teacher. And so what he says in Jeremiah, 29-12 after. that he tells us that he has good plans for us. He tells us, when you seek me with all your heart, you'll find me. And so there was a season in my life that it was hard. I had a lot of fear. Not that things have gotten easier. I just know how to handle them differently. But when I was first going through different things, the Lord just put this hunger in my heart. And I was waking up early, and I would just sit down with my Bible, and I would just pray. And I had another book that's one of my favorite books. It's Beth Moore's Praying God's Word. And when I didn't know what to pray, like when I would wake up so early in the morning, I didn't know what to pray. I had her book, and it just had Scripture kind of turned into short little prayers. I would just pray that. So I was constantly praying Scripture. And through His Word alone, He taught me about Himself, how to pray, showed me. He taught me all the things. So that's why I wanted to throw that in there. It's not me. I didn't do any of this. He taught me. So that's why Jeremiah 29-12 is so true. But I have been just desperately following the Lord for about 20 years now. So He's just taught me a lot.
Speaker 1Yeah, and for me, Jeremiah 29-12, I learned that when I was 12. I learned it. I heard it when I was 10. And that was what took me through my hardest time in my life. And when there wasn't anyone to talk to. I had no one to talk to when my dad passed away. And I was 11 and 12 in middle school. And where Girl Talk starts, and it's why it starts there because it's easy to look. And we talk about it all the time. It's easy to look ahead at people older than us and think when I get to be their age, I'm going to be able to know what they know, and I'm going to be able to do what they do and understand what they understand. But it really, like, Holy Spirit started teaching me when I was 8, 9, 10. Like, I already had so much that took me to, like, when my dad told me he was sick. Like, I was like, okay, well, I know what the Bible says. And, like, I know that I'm going to be okay and this is going to be okay. And my dad taught me Jeremiah 29-12. And, like, I knew that talking to God and praying, like, I am not. I understood it as I understand it now and I didn't understand it and still don't understand it the way you do because we're all different and we all have, like, our own ways that we're going to figure it all out and Holy Spirit's going to speak it to us. And so, like, we sit here with you, like, in different places, but together, like, knowing that it always is Holy Spirit. But I, like, I don't know. Like, I love Jeremiah 29-12 because it reminds me of, like, my 10-year-old, 11-year-old, 12-year-old self. Like, so many. So many of y'all can either, you're in that moment or you can think really soon. Like, you used to be 12 really, like, not long ago. And, like, it's completely possible, like, when we allow Holy Spirit to teach us, like, He's not going to be like, oh, well, I'm going to wait a few years. Because I always, this is a whole Girl Talk analogy, like, everybody, if you've ever been at Girl Talk, like, you've probably heard me say that if you asked your neighbor if you could take the trash can to the street for them, like, they're going to say yes. And, like, if you ask your mom to teach you how to unload the dishwasher, like, she's not going to be like, maybe when you're older, you can, like, help me do that. Like, she's either going to at least teach you a little bit so that you can start helping.
Speaker 2Somewhere. Somewhere it can't be broken.
Speaker 1Yeah. That's how, like, our dad is with us in Holy Spirit. Like, he's never going to be like, oh, well, you're too young. You need to wait. He's always going to, like, in.
Speaker 2Like, he's always going to meet you and give you what you ask for when it comes to spiritual awareness and learnings. I mean, Jesus was teaching when he was 12. Yeah. And, of course, we know that was Jesus. But I think that was included in the Bible to show us.
Speaker 1Like, Christians are a little crust. Like, we were. We are made in his image.
Speaker 2And so if we are to be like him, then it's definitely possible to be learning at that age. Yeah. I mean, we're not saying that you need to go. As a 12-year-old, you need to tell everybody that you know more than them. But we want you to know that it's definitely possible to be processing it all and taking it all in. And at the same time, when y'all meet and you watch these videos, this is where you start. So take the information that we give you and think on it the rest of the week. And I know Amy gives questions to help you, you know, go through every day during the week. And that's where you are going to grow. Not only in the time that you watch the video, but your real growth is going to come in that quiet time and that quiet place when it's just you and Holy Spirit and Jesus and the Father.
Speaker 1So. Yeah. That's what I love in the Gospels. Like, it's Luke 11, but it's in Matthew 7. Like, it's all throughout the Gospels of just, like, when we. And it's Jeremiah 29 and 12. Like, when we ask him and we seek him and we, like, knock on his door. And it's this story. This story says, like, suppose one of you has a friend and you go to him and you ask him for bread. But he's, like, already asleep and he's like, leave me alone. The door's locked. I don't have any bread. I'm not giving it to you. And, like, and then he keeps asking for it. And, like, I just love. And it's, um, it's Luke 18 to the persistent widow. Like, just prayer is so, like, everything that we're talking about is prayer. And it's asking Holy Spirit. Like. And, like, all throughout the Bible tells us, like, if we ask, we'll be given. Like, it will be given to us. And don't stop asking and pray without ceasing. And, like, it's just always, like, I don't know. For me, I always feel, like, burdened. Like, I always feel like I can't ask for help. And I always, like, am, like, trying to say the least amount that I can so that I'm not, like, bothering everyone. But, like, God isn't like that. Right. And he, like, we can never say enough to him. Like, he. And I used to, growing up, like. I would always think, like, God's just waiting for me to wake up. And, like, that's what people would tell me. And I'd be, like, what? Like, that's so weird. Like, nobody. Nobody's just, like, waiting to talk to me. And. But God is. And, like, it's just really cool to know, like, if you feel like no one is picking you. And no one would choose to call you. And nobody. Like, there's not anybody that, like, you're their first person to go to. Like, God. Like, God is your first person. And, like. He can't wait to talk to you. Like, he wants to know what you think. And the coolest thing about God is, like, he already knows what you think. But he still wants you to tell him. And, like, who does that? Like, I don't know. I don't have anyone that would do that. So, like, just knowing that.
Speaker 2And, like, I don't know. Yeah. He's always ready to hear from us. He knows. He knows everything. He made us. He just wants us. To love. Him back. He loves us so much. But he wants to be our first choice. And that's kind of what we want to convey. Is that prayer is not a last resort. Prayer is a conversation to be had because of your faith. And who God is. We've talked about identity, worship, and now we're on prayer. Because we talked about identity first. Because identity. Is where we learned who we are. Who God made us to be. And whose we are. And that's where we kind of transitioned into worship. Because we had to know who God is and why we worship him. As a response to who he made us. Not as a response. No. We worship him because of who he is. But knowing whose we are. Who we belong to. We can worship him. And choose to worship him instead of ourselves in our daily choices. And so now we're on prayer. Where that constant conversation comes in because of who he is and we choose him first. That's why we're talking about prayer now. Because it's a choice. It's a constant conversation. It's just us waking up and saying good morning to the one that made us. And because you know when you're a baby you wake up. And. You cry. And your mom comes to get you. And your mom takes care of you. And so when you reach the age. And you're able to understand. Who God is. We're never going to understand all of who he is. And his fullness and everything. But we know. Because he's written in our hearts. We know that he's there. And through his word. He's taught us about Jesus. He's in Holy Spirit. So now we come to prayer. And so prayer. Is the part where we wake up in the morning. And we say good morning Father. Good morning Lord Jesus. Good morning Holy Spirit. And in our house. And we start our day. Most of the time. A lot of times I forget. I'm not perfect. But I've got the routine in place more in the car than anywhere else. But I get all my girls together. We praise you. We worship you. And we bless your holy name. and then I start praying. And that's how we pray together, usually, in the car if we're going somewhere like first thing going to school but um but prayer is just that conversation when we are showing him that we we choose him first that we trust him to pour our heart out to um whether it's a good thing or a bad thing something we regret we wish we hadn't done something that we kind of want to do but know we shouldn't do something that is hurting us when we feel like nobody else cares whatever it is that's the constant communication um with the relationship and then um you have to you have to put allow for him to talk back to you so it's hard to have a relationship just one way like if one person does all the talking all the time then there's no growth in the relationship so you have to also take time to hear from him and that's where his word comes in and that's where we find him that's jeremiah 29 12 seeking him with all our heart and and then finding him in his word
Speaker 1so this semester we're gonna talk about like not only why we pray or what is prayer and why we pray and like the purpose and power and all that but like we're gonna walk through like how we pray which is like so fun because like we all grew up learning like god is good god is great oh the blessing yeah like we all grew up probably praying before meals like you pray at church like you pray at funerals you pray at weddings maybe if you go to a wedding like that like it's just like you pray like outwardly but like there's so much power and purpose in praying alone which like we're gonna look at all the times where jesus like went up he got up early and he went and he hiked up a mountain and like sat alone in the dark and prayed like and that's what it's always like if jesus did that like if jesus found the purpose and knew the purpose of doing that like how much more do we need it and how much more like he he set the example of all things of how we lit like our standard is christ standard and and he took the time to pray and so just praying through scripture and praying through the psalms and i love the lord's prayer which is like you know i don't it's not like i don't like it because of like just the like i feel like it's repetitive because i don't know did you grow up saying it yeah like we grew up like saying it at church every single sunday like all together but i think i've told you all about it before but we did it in our prayer zoom last semester um but there's a breakdown like diagram in my study bible right now that like goes through it and like it's just so well worded that it's just made me like love the lord's prayer like even more because it's that one the daily bread that talks about like the um like help do you remember it like help me like take care of the mundane thing so that i can like take care of the spiritual like responsibilities that i have do you remember that we've talked about yeah like it's just like so well worded that it just like really made me and then this semester like i think we've all just like loved the prayer of jabez and like just the just how much it has and just like the one sentence of just all that we pray and um and so just looking through those are the word for the warfare prayers and the talent tabernacle prayer and like all the different prayers that we get to like pray through but also like make it our own it's super cool to be able to just pray through scripture because like you said like that's really where the power is and it's who jesus is and how god's speaking to us and so to be able to like pray back his words it's just like really powerful so we have that coming up it's just super exciting and
Speaker 2another thing that i'm going to touch back on in the other videos is that there is a verse i can't remember right now but it talks about the angels how they hearken unto the word of the lord and so you know god has given the angels to um do his bidding as the psalms say so the angels um do the work of the lord and again i'll go into this more but when we pray god's word that's their command to move okay they're not just sitting up in heaven still waiting i mean maybe they are i'm not going to say what is going on actually right now because i don't know i haven't heard from the lord on that but god's word says that when they hear his word they move and so when we pray his word out loud they move that's why it's so important and we're going to talk about this more but that's so why it's so important to pray god's word out now out loud with boldness and confidence because that is our sword you know the the sword of the spirit that is um yeah the sword of the spirit which is the word of god so that's why we're talking about this yes
Speaker 1definitely yeah we have lots everything that we've said we're gonna unpack even more but there's so much more like we have like you lay i laid it out on this whole table and like that this is the funnest the most fun part about it it's just breaking it down to every week because there is so much which is where the app comes in because like if we could if y'all would listen we would literally make like hours and hour-long videos because we could talk about she could talk about this forever i could talk with you about it forever and we love the conversations yeah we love being able to like talk about it together and knowing that like someone out there is listening and um it's super fun but really like like we said earlier like you you get growth from like you can listen all day in class but you're not gonna you're not gonna you're not we're not gonna ace the test you're not gonna make a good grade you're not gonna remember anything like you can make it 100 on your test just by listening but like five years from now you're not gonna know what you need to know if you just listened and had no participation in it and so that's really where like your growth and who you become and who you change to be like you can hear something and be inspired that's what catherine always says she always says like people you can be inspired by anything like you can see a tree over there and be like that's so pretty like i'm so inspired but like we like the word of god in prayer and it impacts our life and like that's what we want like we want what comes out of girl talk because of who holy spirit is in your life like to impact you so much that like you cannot stay the same
Speaker 2exactly because when you hide god's word in your heart two things the first thing um as the psalm says i've hidden your word in my heart so that i might not sin against thee so number one when you hide your word hide god's word in your heart it um it just that's holy spirit in you because john says in the beginning was the word and the word was with god and the word was god so when you are are memorizing scripture which this is not just about prayer but when you're memorizing scripture and you are hiding it in your heart um that is that is your um artillery is that what i'm looking for that um okay because we are in a battle okay every day yeah and so that's how you're gonna win the war i mean yes the war has already been won jesus already won the war but we're still in battle you are in battle every day for your own soul and your friend's souls and your family's souls because the enemy doesn't care who you are he knows what you do every day and if you're not arming yourself and and packing heat every day um if you're not packing heat every day you're going down so that's another reason why it's so important to do this on your own time and not just to show up once a week but to really take the time to um hide god's word meet with him hear what he says and hide it in your heart so yeah so all
Speaker 1of that we have these videos we also have on our app it's ten dollars to get all the access to really our written notes that we look through to make these videos and the things that we can't get all in the video unless you want to listen for three hours like we give you all of our study notes which is what our small group leaders last year were like can you just give us all your notes i'm like we do we give you everything that we have we give you everything that we've studied and written down and like it's all yours and then you have daily things that take you through and kind of go back through what we've all just been through with the video and kind of break it down even more to give you more of like a quiet time prayer time like situation for you to go through daily and so that's available for all ages of girls it's available for moms to go through with their daughters which is kind of our dream of all things is for moms to be able to take this through with their daughters and talk about it and just give you another resource to to build the relationship you have with your mom or your daughter and so um it's all there it's all accessible through the app you can go on our website you can message us like get get that access through a lot of different things on our instagram but um the app is also becoming it is a place where you can connect with girls all throughout the ministry all through the state southeast like we have missionary girls on there that are all over the world so there's lots of places to go and you can get in your stages be on your stages of middle school high school college if you're a girl if you're a small group leader like there's so much stuff there so that's your
Speaker 2stage in life i was really when we first started this i was like what's the stage so that's your stage in life you have the mom stage the college stage the middle school stage so those those things i mean you can be on that stage too like that can be your stage you can really be wherever you want to be it's an app i mean just be friends with everybody yeah so um we
Speaker 1want you to comment and all of that in our study there's places to talk about like each day and each week like so it's really there for us to be able to create the community within all of our cities and all of our states and everything like it's all there so we can all be together while we're also in our own communities and so it's really cool it's a good good plan good dream just trying we need you to help us make that so

Speaker 2else you can and it's only going to be what y'all make it to be so get on there and start communicating and if you are wanting a place to connect with other girls that if you're tired of social media and if you're tired if you know that your heart probably needs a break from social media get on this because it won't have all the distractions of the other social media um and i mean it's safe like that's why we're started this because we wanted y'all to have a place to connect with each other in a safe place because it's just girls and there aren't you can you post pictures yeah you can post pictures you can do everything and it's safe and there's not all the other distractions because we know that we were made for community but we also know that there's a lot going on in social media that's not good for us and that we probably need to you know filter out stay away from take a break from whatever you want to call it so um delete the other ones if you need to if you want to if you want to challenge yourself whatever you know um it's this is your this is your heart and your soul that you're caring for and and that we want that we're praying for because you know god says that he wants to prosper our hearts and minds and soul you know he wants to prosper us um and that is where it starts is your own heart so guard it carefully
Speaker 1yes so it's going to be a good semester it's gonna be a lot of fun yeah i i can't promise that our 6 a.m zoom calls will continue throughout the semester but we do have plans to have that because there are you know we had 40 50 60 girls doing that with us last year um and so y'all are welcome to do it just let me know if you want to sign up for it um we can have different hosts every week yeah so um if y'all have any um suggestions or thoughts or anything you want to share with us go to the app and call me
