Polo G doesn't want to make PAIN MUSIC anymore EP 73 | The Crew Has It

The transcript reveals a deep personal and professional journey of an artist navigating identity, success, and authenticity in the music industry. For decades, a hidden force—represented by the "Lemonati"—has promoted lemon over lime, symbolizing dominance in music, culture, and branding. Now, a counter-movement emerges with 7Up’s lime-lemon soda, signaling a shift in industry balance. The artist reflects on his roots in Chicago, where he began rapping at age nine, and his transition to Los Angeles, where he embraced a more personable, emotionally grounded lifestyle. He emphasizes authenticity, citing personal experiences—like crying during emotional scenes in acting—as vital to genuine artistry. His career growth was shaped by trusted industry relationships, such as signing with Columbia through an aggressive but intelligent A&R. He describes a creative process rooted in emotional truth and instinct, writing lyrics that feel personal and real. The artist also shares life milestones, including buying a luxury watch, a classic car, and a home, while reflecting on the challenges of living in a high-traffic city like LA. He remains committed to longevity by staying true to his roots and evolving with real-life experiences, from touring to family life. Ultimately, the narrative blends personal anecdotes with industry observation, showing how authenticity, emotional connection, and cultural awareness are central to lasting success.

For decades, a shadowy organization called the Lemonati has kept lemon on top and lime in the shadows. Look around, lemon-forward sodas, even lemon-forward songs. We ran the tracks, slowed them down, reversed them, and squeezed out the truth. All hail the lemon! That's lemon propaganda right there. But now, 7up is fighting back with their new lime-lemon soda. Join the 7 uprising. Flip the sip. I seen you at the Equinox Hotel. We were there for our premiere. And you were in, like, Tim's, and you just had, like, a mean mug on, and I texted Leilani. I was like, "Is he gonna beat me up? Like, I see him here. Like, is he cool?" And she's like, "No, he's fine. He's fine." I'm like, "Okay, just making sure." Last one to the airport buys breakfast. Buy breakfast. Day one, day one. What the fuck's up, bro? How's everything been? Shit, everything's been good. I've been chillin'. Hell yeah. You chill a lot. You're in the house. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You go outside much or not really? It was a point in time that I did. Like, I was kicking it a little bit, but I scaled back. Yeah. What made you scale back? Yeah. It's like, I don't know. I just get in my different moods. Like, I feel like it's a season for everything. Yo, that's me. That's me. I swear to God. For sure. You don't see me. Like, when it's winter, bro, people do not see me. You're hibernating? Especially that I'm in New York, bro. It be getting cold. I do not want to step out, bro. I swear. Are you staying in? Why? Yeah, yeah. Well, I live in Jersey, but basically same thing. I'm trying to get him to move him out of here. Tell him how nice it is out here. I ain't gon' lie. I came back. Like, I love L.A., but being from a city like Chicago, I can see why he. Yeah. But do you miss Chicago a little bit or. I miss it a lot at times. And I've been out here like 10 years, so it's like I'm so used to it at this point. Yeah. Do you go back to Chicago a lot or not as much as. Yeah, I've been visiting more frequently now. I feel like I always visit pretty often, but at times where my schedule was crazier, it'd be like four months since I've been to the city in the past. But now I go so often just because, you know? Yeah. Do you. I need to go back. The weather's too good out here. Like, you can't. Like, it's 90 degrees today. Yeah. It's like just. It feel like summer already. Literally. But I be needing the cold, bro. Like, remember when we was staying in Encino? I'm like, "Bro, it's too hot." Like, every day. Like, I don't like feeling like I gotta hop in the pool every single day or some shit like that. I know, but I don't know. There's just something about the snow and I grew up with that. I love the snow, bro. I love it, bro. I love it when it's like, you feel me, gloomy, snowy and shit. Like, I be chilling. So, how old were you when you moved to L.A.? I was 19. And were you popping at that point or were you just like, that move you were already like known or were you just like, "Oh, I'm going to try and make it happen"? I was on my way. Yeah. I wasn't really like a. I mean, I was signed to a record label, but I wasn't really like. Yeah. Like, this was pre my first breakout single, "Pop Out" with DJ. Yeah, I was just going to say, did you move here before or after that? This was before. Oh, okay, okay. This was like probably a month prior in the end of something. Yeah. And then the record took off. Yeah. It was like on, really on from there. I'm actually curious, like, what's the label stuff like, like the meeting stuff? Like so, you were dropping- Because you got to pick, like you got to go through certain labels and see what's really fit for you, right? Yeah. Yeah. So like, essentially you drop like mixtapes or you drop like. because you hadn't dropped an album at that point. No. Yeah. I had never dropped a project, period. Just singles. So you just had singles? Yeah, just singles. And they were just popping off in Chicago and fire. Yeah. And then, so then people come to you and then you're like, how do you. how do you, how do you- Yeah. How do you like pick what was best for you, like with the label stuff? I'm always curious about that. As far as like the song selection? Well, no, no, no. As far as like the deal that they give you, like if they're like. because you're with what? Are you with Interscope or- Columbia. You're with Columbia. Columbia. So how did you pick Columbia like over the other ones? Because I imagine there was a bunch of them. At the time, they had Bear-a-Line. She like big in the music industry and she was like aggressive, like a dog at the time. She was pop. Yeah. She was pop. She was really young at that time, hustling as an A&R. And she was like, she was the only person who built the relationship with me before trying to get me over to the office. Smart. And she was more serious about the business because I had took label means on my own, like I ain't had no manager at the time, it was just me and my homie. But like the way she came and made me more prone to dealing with Columbia over anybody else. Yeah. Was it crazy in Chicago, like when you first started dropping singles and like popping off? Did you just get recognized everywhere or was it kind of calm until "Pop Out" happened? In the city, the way it worked, like you can be like on your way to the rest of the world, but like you can be a rapper with a few hundred thousand views and it'll make you feel like you. Yeah. Because everybody in the city will rock with you once you start getting something going. Yeah. Especially putting on for the city. They gotta rock with you. For sure. Yeah. Yeah. I don't. In the beginning it's like all love, just because you the underdog. Yeah. It's like when you really obtain that. When you out of there, it's like. When you gone, that's when you see like, "Damn, this what people do." Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's what you do good, but not too good. Yeah. For sure. It's always like that. So you moved to LA, you signed the record deal. Was there a moment where you were just like, "Have you had that I made it moment?" or what was like something where you're like, "Holy shit, it's happening." I feel like my. I made it. I made it moment was. It was a lot of them happening, but it's really, I say, just the whole year of 2021. Oh, fuck. That was a crazy year. Yeah. You were number one on my Spotify rap that year. That ass. That was a crazy year for you. Yeah. Yeah. Appreciate it too. But yeah, that whole year for me, I had reached new milestones in my career, and I was getting paid handsomely for that. Yeah. And yeah, I had got my second crib that I had bought, and just experiencing all that, sometimes I just sit back and soak in it like, "Damn, I really did this shit." Yeah. You feel like you grew up fast because of everything? Hell yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like I had my I made it moment It was still Was people looking at me like Oh you made it as a rapper now Cause you just signed the deal So Everything became serious And you're like no there's so much shit I wanna do Yeah Yeah What was your crazy purchase After you signed that deal What was the crazy He was like damn I'm bugging I was so eager To go buy like Some jewelry Yeah So the first thing I went and did I went and bought a watch Went and bought a watch From this jewelry store called Trezors It was like 30,000 I ain't had no car yet No crib But you had that watch though It was a Rollie Yeah Rollie That's what I did I got the bust down Rollie I think mine was a Day-Date Oh yeah that's what Is that what I That's what I got Yeah You had a Day-Date The first one that I got That's always the good first watch person But it's funny cause I use my So like when we're filming Like I live in LA So if I'm shooting in New York They'll give me a relocation fee And I think that year They because like COVID happened And then we like I held on to my apartment Cause we're on a weird hiatus They gave me extra So I just used my whole relocation fee I was like getting the watch It just It felt like it wasn't like my money I was like okay cool I hear He was like please just do it Cause you don't even have to think about it Yeah But see that's the thing with booking money too Cause you do like Like you get paid like the cash And you go to like If you do like a booking at a club It don't feel like real money Yeah you just like It's like monopoly money He was like yo you can spend that on whatever Yeah That's literally how it be Did you get the crib or the The car first I got my career first I ain't I ain't even know How to drive for real Till I turn 20 I ain't gonna lie I've taught myself how to drive And then it's the craziest place to learn Cause it's so many Yo it's Turns Mounds And people don't know how to drive out here People do not know how to drive It's like Even in like a 60 mile Air body driving 30 or 45 Yeah bro And if they not And it be like 7 lanes on the highway They speed bad Yeah But that's what I don't understand People got like the craziest cars out here Like F8 And they don't know how to drive And you can't even go that fast Cause there's so much traffic I'm like And it's always It's not like New York Where it's just rush hour And it clear up Like it's traffic Throughout the whole day bro I don't know how you do this shit bro That's the one thing about me That's the one thing That's keeping me from here bro I don't drive at 9 or 5 I don't drive at 9 or 5 You know that right You don't drive at 9 or 5 You can't do that In LA Yeah I'm definitely a late night rider Yeah But my thing I like waking up and driving Like I like waking up in the morning Like I wake up at like 10 though So like Everybody's already at work That's what I do I'm going We worked out this morning With my trainer You go to the gym At like 11 It's still traffic out here though A little bit It offsets So did you buy Did you buy your first car Before you got your license Or you had your license Oh I didn't get a license Till I was 24 I was just I was just riding I ain't gonna lie I was just riding one The Like Before I got my first official car I only got it Because They took my I took a car to learn I went and bought a car To learn how to drive It was like a Malibu I paid like 8,000 for it Cash And then I was riding And then one day They pulled me over Because I ran a red light They pulled me over I didn't see them behind me And when they took that car i ain't even going to get it i went and bought a new car they just completely so what was the first real car you bought like uh a bmw x7 i was heavy on the bmw yeah you had an i8 at one point right yeah yeah you got the i8 did you like that car yeah hell yeah i loved it the i8 i had seen the producer with it um i had seen the producer with it at one of my sessions early on i'm like damn what is this he like yeah that's all right and like the type doors go up yeah no that was it was like a batmobile yeah all right guys we're gonna take a quick break from the episode we're gonna talk to you about weather will be you can make a pick on how long this ad read is gonna be prize picks we love you baby back to the episode like the type of thing that i used to do is like if i say if i say a rap lyric with a card that i want i gotta you gotta get it oh yeah but that's technically manifestation if you think about it you're like yeah can't be totally saying that i'm like my trainer goes eight to ten reps i'm like i gotta do ten so it's essentially the same thing right except it's just one less cool yeah um okay so so you have some cars you get the crib is this the crib that you live in now a big one yeah or that was the first one you bought and you've been in that one since no hell no i was um i was primarily staying in calabasas when i first moved out here and then uh i used to like be on leases a lot yeah and i got into it with my landlord at one point in time and that like the lemonati has spent decades keeping lemon on top and lime in the shadows their lemon agenda has infiltrated everything even our music that hit song named after the color of lemons not a coincidence big lemon has been pulling strings in the industry for years think about it but now seven up is fighting back with now lime comes first seven up flip the sip made me like damn i'd rather just yeah because then you're under like someone else's thumb kind of they're like they tell you what the to do so what were you doing at the crib you guys were just partying and no it wasn't even really nothing like that it was just me feeling like i had to answer to him yeah yeah and then like one time he did some crazy like he had somebody come look at the house while he was done i'm like no i can't really yeah like he was selling it i'm like oh yeah yeah oh hell come and see and then they're like oh he lives here like yeah that's it's just dangerous yeah it was crazy yeah that's weird that's a sick that's a mean security beach yeah bro i mean we had a house out here out in la and like just every night we were getting in trouble just like people coming to the house and this and that it's just like renting sucks it really does it makes you you you say y'all stayed in encino yeah we're in encino it's nice over there yeah the valley's fire because like you get a banging ass spot you know not too expensive like what you'd pay for like 10 mil hills is like this if you pay 10 mil and like and deepen the value all this if you get like a compound it's like yeah you just get more bigger yeah bang for your buck more bang for your buck and and i like it out there it's more calm um so like uh were you partying like crazy when you first started popping off or were you just chill no i i usually just be to myself it took me a while because i was so like i'm trying to explain this the right way like my mindset was still so locked into where i came from so like i was distant from a lot like i i would get in around other rappers or producers and not say a word to them and they'll be like what's up with him like yeah he don't talk and like over time like being out here in california taught me how to be more friendly yeah how to smile and greet people and stuff because like i used to just damn they'll have a mean mug all the time yeah there's a there's a there's a there's a there's a the first time i ever saw you so uh i i seen you at the equinox hotel at the gym and the stuff with with leilani of like me and leilani are friends the stuff that the blogs posted like obviously was like a joke of they're like oh they're dating and i seen you at the equinox hotel we were there for our um premiere and you were in like tim's and you just had like a mean mug on and i texted leilani i was like is he gonna beat me up like i see him here like is he cool and she's like no he's fine he's fine i'm like okay just making sure um so i seen you just like walking around the equinox hotel and tim's on i forgot you were there for like some ball what's that that ball weekend that everyone was at the equinox hotel that weekend i don't know like boogie was at the hotel like i forgot what it's called the governor's is the governor's ball yeah i think i know what you're talking about though yeah there's something like that i probably performed there that year yeah and i was like yeah it was in new york please just tell him to be cool yeah um but yeah it's good like la is dope because you get to like be more personable it's a lot of relationships like that's kind of like how you make records which which i've like kind of found because um you know i'm tight with like mgk so i would like go to his house a lot and just see all the people coming out it's just like all who he's tight with the relationships is like how the records get made so it's like kind of like opened my eyes up to the industry it's like i think it would be a little hard if you didn't live in la or maybe new york to like get stuff made as opposed to like the record labels making the introduction like how did how did you meet little tj to make that record that that was a little bit of a long time ago i think it was a little bit of a long time ago i think it was more so like a label situation because he had just signed he had signed a little bit before me and they like yeah this would be great to get but i have been hip to his music somewhere and he was showing me love and too but like that was when the real connection was made they like put us both in the studio together we went to like uh quad studios in new york quad fire you had anybody else in mind before they before they picked tj for like the remix did you even like think of think of any other rappers that you wanted on pop out so um to be honest like the the record i just had it sitting like i had like a few months prior to me and him getting in the studio i had just did the hook alone and and and that day i had like a little bit of writer's block so i just left it at that at that but then when i played the hook and uh in the stew they was like yeah hell yeah get them on this and it just went from there what's your process like do you you hear a beat and you just start like writing or like do you have an idea for how does your process kind of work uh i i'm a i i'm one of i feel like i'm one of the last rappers that still write they like i don't really even get back to more recently like physically writing because a lot of people just punch in ideas too and i like the experience i feel like it's more personal when you're writing it down yeah do you you mostly do it at your house in la or do you go to a studio i got a studio house so i'll be mainly there and if i want to go to the studio it'd be just to get up right from the crib because like when you're in a different environment you get like a different type of spark in your brain what you think you think for sure because i'll be making beats and like i ain't a lot in the crib like sometimes i just be like yeah but if i travel like out here like if i'm out here sometime bring my laptop bro i started like i don't know i just have like different ideas in my brain like what's your what's your like how do you pick a beat like what's the what like what do you listen for like when you when you're picking a beat like the first thing that jumps out to you if he can go there's no farewells in r.i.p i feel like the beat gotta say something to me like some of the first few seconds right yeah like i'm gonna connect with it right away because like if i hear a beat that i like i'm gonna just get to blurting out lyrics how loud i get to damn the screaming and out loud get right in my phone or writing it down but i definitely need a pack i got you i got you i gotta start making i ain't make a beat in like like a year and a half but i gotta give i'm gonna give back i'm gonna send you some i'm gonna send you some i ain't saying you no old though so i gotta say yeah i got some new cater for him yeah yeah um what what's a song that you were in the studio when you're like this is a banger like was there one that stuck out the most where like this is a hit or maybe one that you made a couple yeah yeah i got like any any big song that's in my catalog i felt like that basically like i never really second-guessed myself when it comes to that like every it's like a feeling you just know it's like that's the thing that's the thing that's the thing you just know every time. Like I know a lot of people, you hear stories, Like, they didn't like their hit record at all. That's totally different with me. Like, every time, I felt like this the one. And it ended up working out for me. And who were some people, like, when you were maybe in Chicago or came to L.A. that you, A, looked up to? Like, who were your, like, favorite rappers growing up? And then, B, you, like, really wanted to work with? I ain't gonna lie. I can't really say it's, like, a long list. Because, like, as far as, like, looking up to rappers, it would be, like, people like Lil Wayne when I was a kid and shit. So, like, it was crazy to do a song with him. I'm like, what the fuck? I can cuss on him like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He good, bro. He can do whatever he want. Just don't kill me. I'm sorry. The vlog's live. Yeah. But, yeah, making a record with Wayne was surreal. Connecting with Juice WRLD. Like, but it was really more so on some friendship shit. Like, he just fucked me. Yeah, both. Yeah, yeah, both from Chicago. He showed me love early on. And I say, um, Herb, because I used to listen to his music a lot. But we was making shit back in Chicago, bro. Like, way before I got here, for real. So, when was the first moment you realized, like, yo, I'm really tough at this rap shit? I was just about to literally ask, like, what was the moment that you were like, I'm fucking him? Even before, like, you even, like, looked at it as a career? I ain't gonna lie. Like, it hit a sound crack. I first started rapping for real, like, I wouldn't say for real. But, like, I first wrote my first song when I was, like, nine. Damn. Damn. Do you remember what it was about? I remember the song. I remember the song, Line for Line. But, because that's how much I used to practice it. But I wrote my first song when I was nine. And from that point, I felt like I was raw. Like, damn, I got this shit. But I used to. I've been doing it since he was nine. Yeah. But I've seen it as more of a hobby, like, for so long. Like, I wanted to do so much other shit. I wanted to box. I wanted to play basketball. I was heavy into sports until, like, it kept being put in my face that this is my calling. I felt like that with acting, too. Like, I was, like, heavy in sports, too. And everything just kept pushing me towards acting and all that stuff. So, I know exactly that feeling. And sometimes you love the sports more than you love the music. For sure. Or you love the acting. But then sometimes you're like, ah, it just keeps telling me to do this. Yeah. Yeah, it's weird. That's why you just gotta just go with the path. Yeah, Michael's been acting since he was, like, a little sperm. So, he can't really, like, he's been on TV since fucking before anyone was alive. Yeah. Hey, man, I wanted to play basketball and football, though. Well, you did it on TV. Yeah. It's just as cool. I didn't go to college, but I went to college on TV. So, I'm like, I did it. Fuck it. I got my diploma. What sport you played? I played hockey. Oh, that's hard. I played hockey. I know. White guy sport. I played hockey growing up. And then, by the time I was, like, I mean, you see, like, I'm just insane. By the time I was, like, 13, 14, like, all the parents were just like, you should just, like, do entertainment. Like, you're just, like, wild. And I was always like. Mm-hmm. I was always like, nah, you guys are trying to fuck me up. Like, trying to get me up. They don't want, y'all don't want me to go to NHL. Yeah, you don't want me to compete. You don't want me to compete with your kids. And then, like, just everything would happen of just stuff, like, pushing me, pushing me to be an actor. And you finally moved to LA. I moved to LA, and I was like, this is what I was meant to do, you know? Do you have any, like, do you want to act at all or do anything like that? Always, it be something I'm on the fence about. Like, I always, like, cuz to one name I ain't mentioning the rappers. Like, I'm, I fuck with Pac a lot. Yeah. Like, I'm a big Pac fan. And I always see, like, the real throwback rappers, they laid out the template on what a, like, a true artist is supposed to be, a rap artist is supposed to be. So, like, that's another category that it touch on in being an artist. So, I always think of it from that standpoint, like, damn, I probably could do it. Cuz I feel like I got, like, enough careers before. But sometimes it's just hard to give up the fact that I'm acting. Yeah. Yeah. That's hard. That's hard. That's the best part. It's like, you just gotta get out of your own head and just, like, be in the scene. Have you ever auditioned for anything or had to memorize lines or do anything like that? No. No? No. I never, I never tried it before. Yeah, you should. I think you'd be, yeah, you'd be fired. Gotta get pulled on some shit. You'd be fired. What are some of your favorite shows that you watch? Shit, I really was Power. Fuck you. I was heavy on that. See, he was my number one on Spotify rapping. He watched Power, baby. Look at this. For sure. Yeah, I was heavily into Power, though. What was your favorite one? The original or book two? Book two. For sure the OG. Fuck! No, I was into OG, actually. It's too classic. Yeah, yeah. It's too classic. Like, I done binge watched it two times over again. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah. What about some of your favorite movies? There's a wide range. Yeah, there's a lot. I like a lot of movies. Like, I done watched movies, like, on the comedy side, I like, like, shit like How High. Yeah, yeah. Shit like that. On the, like, more thought-provoking side, I like The Matrix a lot. I don't watch that about four or five times. Do you believe in that stuff? Do you believe in any shit like that? Like, a simulation or, like, do you believe in any of that? I believe in some truth to it to an extent. Yeah, I'm deep in that right now. I'm like, this is, you know what I mean? It's a lot to figure out, bro. That's a different type of ride to go down. That's what I have your mind racing, bro. Especially if you're on TikTok late night. It's like, they feed you that shit. You getting 20, you a damn illusion. Your mind, you keep watching that shit. Bro, it feels like you scrolling for 20 minutes. You look at the time you've been scrolling for, like, an hour and a half. I'm like, damn, bro, I gotta get off this shit. What's your algorithm look like? Like, what's mostly your videos? It's either something funny or something on the woke side. Like, it go back and forth all day. What's your algorithm looking like? It's all, like, it's all, like, manifestation and, like, because it used to be, like, girls twerking and everything. I just was like. It still is, bro. No, no, no, that's my other account. I had to not interest everything, and it's pretty much just all, like. Oh, you reset the algorithm. Yeah, manifestation, like, all that stuff. I like cars, so it's a lot of car stuff. Like, I like, I really like architecture, like, houses. I love, like, house tours, like, watching that stuff. A lot of comedy stuff, too. Like, I started in, like, comedy podcasting a while ago, so it's, like, a lot of comedian stuff. You talk about houses. Oh, you talk about houses. Like, I could say. Dude, I'm a fucking grandpa. I'm like, I love trucks. What's a movie that no one, or a TV show. That no one would expect Polji to like? Like, me, I like Shrek. I watch Shrek every now and then. But people would expect that out of me, right? Yeah, it's not too far-fetched. The Notebook? I like The Notebook. I ain't got no shows like that that I watch. He does. He's got some low-key stuff he just don't want to talk about. Well, I don't know. I'll say, like, a cartoon. I just was watching Flapjack, The Misadventures of Flapjack. What's that? It's a cartoon that used to come on when I was a little kid that I was trying to show my son. To see if he was going to fuck with it. But I've been back watching it for some reason. Like, even without him. You have one kid right now? Yeah, I just got a son. Congratulations. How is it? It's pretty dope just to see him coming to his own. He's, like, six now. He's going to be seven. Damn. I had to pick him up from school before I got right here. Damn. Is it, like, wild, like, you picking him up from school? Like, do people, like, oh, my God, like, who's your dad? Yeah. Not at that level yet. When he go to school, you know, it's not, like, I don't think it really tap into the demographic of people who are, like, oh, it's Polo. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, it depends on if it's somebody younger that come through and be, like, oh, yeah, this is Polo G. Once he gets to high school, I think he's going to be lit in high school. Oh, but some of the kids. He lit now. I'm sure he lit now. Some of the kids, you know, I don't think he was talking about the adults. Yeah, well, the adults are probably so funny. Like, I don't know. I just think it's hilarious, like, him pulling up in, like, an i8 or, like, a Ferrari to pick up his son. And they're, like, who the fuck is that guy? That's, like, all, like, the white parents, like, make me laugh. But the kids are probably, like, this is sick. Yeah. Yeah. Some kids here and now. Yeah. That's fine. Does he listen to any of your music ever or no? You don't let him? Yeah, he, I don't be knowing how he be, because it ain't like I play it for him. But certain songs he just be knowing on his own. I don't know if, like, if he, when he around his mama, she play it for him. I don't know. Because I don't really play my music. I don't play my music for him. But he be on YouTube a lot. Like, he asks me about one of my cars, because he synced it on a YouTube short. And I'm, like, how the fuck? What car was it? What car was it? The Ferrari. He's, like, you got a car that's a million dollars. That's hilarious. Pick me up in that one next. Yeah. What's your collection like now? I know Mike wanted, and I'm curious about that, too. It's still crazy. Yeah. No, yeah. I was saying, I'm sure, because I seen an old Flickr collection, but I'm sure that's updated now. For sure. Have you gotten your, like, your dream, dream car yet? Yeah, I say. But, like, it be long. It changes. It changes, yeah. It be long, because, like, right now, my new thing is an R8. Now I want an R8. He's got one. You got a twin turbo. You get it. Okay. Yeah, that's a little crazy. It's going to be too fast. Because I seen they got, like, the Spyder, the Quattro. I seen a lot of different versions. I know I got to get one. They got the R8 GT. You have the Quattro? Yeah, I got the Quattro, yeah. Quattro, V10. They got the V10 Plus. Crazy. Then they got the R8 GT. The R8 GT is, like, the most, like, track focused one. That shit crazy. What's your favorite car you have right now? I'll say, when I'm moving through Chicago, I like to be in my bulletproof truck. That's my favorite car. That's fair. That shit feel tough. Even now, you're like. That's making me feel like a boss, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Are you single right now, or you got a lady? You chilling? I got a lady. - Yeah, you like that? better than being single for sure i want to be single brother like having somebody you know especially like living the lifestyle that i live and being on the road being able to come back home with somebody is a great feeling when's the last time you went on a big tour uh in like 2024 2024 and you you're in a tour coming up soon uh i ain't really got a tour schedule i ain't really got a tour schedule right now i've just been trying to focus i've just been focusing on like being more consistent with dropping music again yeah how you like the tour like yeah yeah is it i'm sure it's exhausting is that it get exhausting like halfway through because i don't been on a decent amount of tours like whether it's crazy because i've been on tour with mgk and thug before oh yeah like i was opening up for them yeah that's the beaver big yep i went on like half of it but it's it get a little enjoying myself though yeah that tour was crazy wasn't it it was nuts that's what kelsey was telling me how did they crowd like react to you because obviously it's like when you open it up for a certain artist like they they they crowd probably like a little bit different than what you're used to yeah we um they put me on a lot of midwest dates so it was always a bunch of love like i performed in milwaukee uh chicago like that like they they always show me a lot of love that's fine what's the craziest thing that's ever happened on tour like something that like that go to thing in your head it's just like this was like wild the lemonadi has spent decades keeping lemon on top and lime in the shadows their lemon agenda has infiltrated everything even our music that hit song named after the color of lemons not a coincidence big lemon has been pulling strings in the industry for years think about it but now seven up is fighting back with their new lime lemon soda now lime comes first first seven up flip the sip when um the first the first tour that i ever had i was still i still had my like childhood crib in chicago while i was living in l.a um and we have still come to our house like um sometimes so when i went on tour and we drove the bus back to my crib a fan followed us all the way back to the house he popped out the car like polo can i get a picture i'm telling him like man you can't how long was the drive how long how long was he it was probably like a 20 minute drive but it was just crazy that he followed like um what the is that the craziest fan story you have you have anything crazier that's the that's the craziest fan story i got like for a tour i can't really it'd be love here now weird stuff yeah yeah pulling up to the hotels and stuff this had a stalker yeah dude i had a stalker you want to stop it's funny i had a stalker so i was i was with uh mgk uh he because he hosted snl so i was with him and uh i don't know if he hosted or his musical guest maybe it was both but we go back from snl to the hotel and my stalker would like call the airlines to see like what flight i was on he would wait for me at the airport he was doing some some wild so that's how they be doing that like knowing when you landed they call the airlines and the airlines are just like yeah this is what if they have your real name they'll tell you it's crazy so so he he sees me so we get back to the hotel and he sees me now kells is with megan fox and he sees him uh kelsey megan and then he sees me and my stalker i see him have like he says like to choose which one he's gonna go to and he went to kelsey megan i was like damn it i felt like i was like come back please i like felt like i'm you know um um and then i i that was like the last year i lived in new york but he lives in new york so i haven't seen him much but i miss you if you're watching this if you're watching this i'm coming to new york in a couple weeks i'll post my flight pull up on the pull up at the airport you fly private a lot or no no i used to a lot until i started to feel like man what the because there's certain places you going you getting 60 000 just for one way yeah it's wild but there's nothing like a private flight though for sure there's nothing like that i definitely enjoy it more than walking through the airport yeah do you do you travel a lot yeah like what are your favorite places to like if you don't want to say what they are because you want to keep a deal but like like if you go on vacation where do you like to go my favorite place that i ever been on vacation was cabo yeah cabo cabo's fire yeah what do you like about it i don't know it was just like real chill and relax i was all right you know i was getting a little fucked up a lot so yeah both yeah i don't know it was just like real chill and relax i was all right you know i was getting a little fucked up a lot so yeah bro they feed you tequila like it's water bro everywhere you go yo as soon as you walk into the hotel they bring you a plate of shots get into your room shots yeah leave shots yeah it's an easy life yeah it's crazy out there yeah it was it was a quick ass flight you've been in jamaica before yeah i with jamaica yeah that's one of my top i say paris one of my top yeah yeah i'm my top three right there that's the opposite of me i know we hate paris paris did us meet him or not well i don't hate i'm not gonna say i hate paris i hate the last time we went to okay that's fair because i'm sure we could go to paris and have a good time and go to france and have a good time if we want some different like type of energy well it was fashion week it was crazy it was a lot going on they scammed americans like bro we was at the club they were like seven bands and stuff onto the thing it was like eight bands seven i'm like yo bro this is crazy because the layout is similar to new york to me a little bit yeah so i think y'all like it but have you you've toured in europe yeah i mean how are your crowds there it was it was cool it was like they was they was engaged you think you get more love in in europe because like they're not used to like having like artists like like you and like that out there i wouldn't say that because i i feel like i like my u.s crowds more the only other place that i say is like canada for some strange like toronto i could tour the whole canada like they over me out there but yeah i feel like i my the the the crowds there are more hype than in europe yeah yeah uh what are some of your favorite places to go in europe like when you tour was there any place like wildly like oh i actually with this me i love ireland i'm italian but i'm like i love ireland i like the ireland um i like i think i went to damn new zealand i really like new zealand yeah new zealand's fire and um what's another spark damn i can't remember but i know new zealand was the like you've been in so many cities is it crazy you think like you would ever see the world like you've seen like it's kind of nuts but it's like once like a long time ago as far as like state to state i used to write down all the places that i wanted to go and i ended up checking that off the list but like as far as like when i started to venture off and go like to london and all that for the first time it's like crazy to me because i'm like i wouldn't have never thought yeah i love london i with london you like it out there yeah london feel like the u.s almost yeah i say i always say it's like like the cousin of new york yeah like it reminds me of new york especially go to brixton feel like i'm in the town yeah i'm really in the town yeah i've been to the trenches in london oh yeah yo this yo i ain't gonna lie yo this dude be rolling around london like he like he from there i swear to god like he know he know all the filming like all the gangsters out there everything he's like actually typed i'm like yo g what the you doing out here like you got some other business going on i don't know is is there anything that you haven't done in your career that you're like this is next or like do you want to win but what's on the bucket list what's home man i really think just like having another five to ten years of staying power that's really just it like something that really reflect my longevity as an artist like uh when i was saying that i've been like at least rapping since i was looking i put my first song out when i was 17. so i'm i'm 27 right now i'm 10 years in the game you know another five solidify yeah but i think i think obviously it's easy because like i feel like we're artists that are because you kind of like you low-key like you say like you tell yourself like we're artists that are like always out like always in the media always in people's faces like they get like people get quick like you like when you pop out it's like oh apology like people's like oh yeah he's he's here like he's not always out he's not always doing this you're not always doing that so that five ten years that's really gonna be yeah that's what i was curious about like what what do you think is the the mix or you know the formula for longevity if you like if there's young artists listening right now like what do you think that formula is or is there not one it's definitely a formula but i i wouldn't say a formula like as far as like a fixed thing that you do um but i would say like just staying real because like what what the rap game or the music industry in general be missing is authenticity like a lot of times today you can't tell where artists from or like just staying deeply rooted in the culture that you come from and just being real with yourself and it's like letting it speak through your music yeah is there anyone that you want to work with that you haven't yet like a dream feature no i ain't really got one i'm just gonna say like i'm a little bit of a wing yeah yeah did you kick it with him or did you just send the verse i didn't i didn't even know he was gonna get on a song like uh i was originally uh it's a song called game gang that he on and i originally wanted uzi on it and i was like trying to make that happen and in the midst of that my uh my he was my anr at the time busy he uh just played the record for me in the storm what the fuck yeah and um yeah since then i and around that time i did a lot of features like all throughout the i don't work with so many artists in the industry yeah they feel like i like i'm at a point now in my career i'd rather not like i'd rather just showcase my own talent what do you think is like your most like outlandish feature that you did like with somebody like on somebody else's song like i got a like a lot of like crossover records that i didn't expect to have as much success as they did because i got a song like a pop song um who's the pop song with damn i forget what the fuck this song called what's it better days but what's the artist name we gotta get polo on it may mueller she from she from uh europe fire may mueller i got a song with her then i got a another like a country record with jesse murphy oh i did see that oh my god jesse murphy jesse murphy i was like maybe six months ago yeah yeah and that was crazy to me that that the amount of success because i've never made a country record before yeah dirk has two records with uh morgan wallen yeah and he i remember i i asked him about that i was like i was like like what was the reason he's like i think he said when he dropped his album he was like i was selling so many records but i was at number two i was selling all these records like he's like i'm at number two like like who's in front of me who's this guy in front of me it was morgan wallen every time because jerk was charting charting charting but number two and morgan wallen was number one and he's like i gotta make a song with this guy that's literally how that relationship happened that's funny but yeah he's like i gotta get in the the country thing um would you ever is there anything else that like you want to do in music that you haven't like is there any like type of song or you kind of just feel like you've just done it all i feel like i can lean more to like easygoing party records yeah i i started my career off making a lot of pain music and like emotional emotional i feel like now it's more so time for me to venture off and like just free flowing because now life lit like you know your life like for sure i could speak and it take too much like sometimes that it's less too much to dig that deep because like don't be really be going on that's yeah like life's so hard right now like hell no but growing up it was it was easy to write stuff like that yeah that's what you was like at the moment he was going through it was natural so now it's like you're chilling so yeah he's like i gotta write a sad record but i'm not sad i got guys just dropped my son off in a ferrari like i'm in the big crib would you ever like make your own beats or like co-produce with some with a producer i i got some yeah i got two records on two songs on my my deluxe that i dropped with that um that i co-produced and then like i've been playing with producing um like over this like dropped the um the deluxe like i don't produce probably like four four songs but i ain't really did it like too consistent yet so produce four songs for yourself or like yeah for myself i'm gonna get around to the i feel like i'm gonna be good at it though because beats just and sounds just always pop up in my head you know it sounds good like especially as a rapper like you know what's good like another artist is going to connect to something yeah it's just like repetition like you just the more you do it the better you're gonna get that that is fun you make a beat like damn i made this this is fire i feel like we've been grilling you for like 40 minutes big what's your favorite thing do you now i'll open it up to you do you have any questions for the boys since you watch power or for michael or is there any questions that you're like oh i'm curious about this we've never done this before this is actually just came to me i'm like do you if you have anything we've been grilling you like this was this i knew he had one this was something that i was just thinking about like sometimes when i watch tv or like a show or a movie sometimes i get like lost in it because i'm like damn they really acting right now do y'all like have them epiphany moments or like feel like damn like like do it take a lot mentally to stay engaged without like falling out of it with knowing that you acting at times i feel like i'll speak for me and michael because we're here right now of us acting together or when i'm acting with michael do you feel like you're doing a good job with that or are you doing a good job with that or are you doing a good job with that or are you doing a good job sometimes like the best actors like not in their head like when i first started acting like i'm like okay like my eyebrows moving while the other person's talking and i'm not listening to what they're saying so it's not hitting me and i'm not technically acting but if i'm truly like acting as like the highest stakes like in power there's no like hey how was your day my day was good it's always like the connect just like he's dead so it's always life or death so you're never in your own head in life or death right so in a scene when you're acting with someone um you should never be in your own head you should be like fully engaged the best actors are the best listeners you really got to disassociate like right so with me and michael sometimes like when we're doing a scene we could tell when it's clunky we're like we'll do the first two takes we're like we're not there and then all of a sudden take three take four we're like we'll say to each other we know we're like we're in this give us another one it'd be so funny sometimes we'd be so locked in like even like when we're having like argument scenes i remember the one argument scene was i think it was like episode eight or nine or some where we was like and i think it was was it in the office or was it like in a way in the warehouse i forgot what it was but we was so locked in and i was yelling at you and i said your actual name i'm like yeah i'm like yo i'm like what the you're doing g and then i'm like i'm like dude it's not even his naked name like yeah but those are the best scenes like because truly like it has to the best actors also the emotion has to be real right so like i genuinely have to be pissed at him or it's going to seem fake it's like you genuinely need to feel that pain to make that record or it's going to seem inauthentic it's the same thing with acting like me it'll take you a little bit but like sometimes like me and michael will like grab each other by the thing and be like you you and scream or whatever and then they're like all right action and then you go into yeah we'll be arguing before that before they even call the scene that's hard yeah we just gotta get into it like i would say it took me a minute like to i would say it took me up until like book two because like obviously i had like high stakes scenes with omari and ghosts i mean in power and stuff like that but i don't think in as as i was as i would get when we started filming ghosts yeah i think you and i just had great communication like it's hard to work with an actor same thing working with an artist like if you guys aren't really communicating about like the record like it might not be cohesive as opposed to like me and michael communicated a lot on set we're like okay this is like deep like let's go there like that and that's kind of what like helped us be like fully transparent like let's crush this and it just made it easier i think like sometimes like when a more serious actor comes on set or someone that you don't with as much not in a negative way but something like you don't we just don't really mesh with it yeah yeah then it's harder to like kind of really you know be free in that scene too because like with us bro we like when we got a scene together we just try like and if it work it work if it don't we try some other you know so we just be having the freedom just to just be trying anymore you guys i got two more hell yeah we could be firing up so this is just as much your hour as it is ours so when you get to like the emotional scenes where like you got a crying like how do you channel that energy though like and getting yourself to the point to actually shed a tittle i would say for me like i could i just think about everything that could possibly go wrong in life or stuff that ben went wrong in life or like just like family stuff like because i i had this conversation with him with a multiple like with multiple people like the scenes that i had with omari and in power like that relationship was kind of similar to like me and my actual father's relationship obviously it wasn't as extreme to the point where we like pulling guns on each other like that but like yeah like it was real relatable to the i'm like damn like i'm looking like having this same disagreement with my pops like i could channel that and even sometimes like even the fact like sometimes i would have to get to to a point where i gotta cry and then like then i'm not getting there just to me being disappointed like in myself not getting there makes me like what the and that genuinely makes me cry like the um i would say that happened happened a few times a few times ain't a lot like it happened in in the movie but the butler yeah i had to cry and like for some reason i just couldn't cry i'm telling i'm telling lee daniel it's like give me five minutes give me like five minutes five minutes go by i'm still not there i'm still not there and then like i realized the five minutes is up i'm like no way i'm about to like about to choke and i just like it just started coming out i'm like nah and then it's just i was like come on let's go yeah so like i don't know sometimes you just think of you just get in your head like you got to think about you got to think about some bad stuff or sometimes just just the fact that you're not there really feel like you just like damn i'm i'm bugging i gotta get there a lot of actors be faking it they'd be using the it is like yeah they'd be putting like uh like menthol like under your eyes and it makes you make your eyes like water but there was a scene that i had that wound up getting cut it was season two when i sit when i was on the stand and i took the fall yeah season two did you did you watch all of book two all of ghosts i i'm not sure which one the one with the one um with uh with mary j blise have you seen all yeah yeah i've seen all of them yeah so so season two of that when i um went on the stand and said that i sold the drugs when he was uh uh in court with davis mclean with methaman yeah i went on the stand and my brother in the in the show was going to testify against uh uh tariq and i was telling him there was a scene at uh our family house that like big like uh walk-up penthouse um and i uh i remember because i have two brothers right so i'm in the scene and i will never forget for some reason i just like tapped in i had to punch i that what did make it is is it showed the the photo of of me as a kid and then it was kind of like brayden's reflection of like damn i can't believe like this is how fucked my life is now because at this point i didn't kill anyone yet but like we had we had been in like a bunch of crazy shit and it only been like one season but so i punched the the photo bro i just and then my brother comes in the room and he's like i'm testing a fine against you like he's going to fucking jail and i'm like of course if he testifies against streak he's gonna get killed bro i was crying like because usually i'm the funny guy on set i'm having fun i'm like brayden's big comedy i am bawling and i can't stop and bart directed that episode and i remember everyone on set was like looking at me crazy because they're just like well i didn't even know johnny could like be this emotional now the episode got fucking cut that scene got cut but it was probably one of my favorite scenes because i was so emotional and once that like once the faucet is open it's like you can't turn it off so i'm just crying and crying they're like do you need 10 minutes and i'm like i was like come on let's go like i was like i was so locked in but i think that they thought that it was too emotional for brayden um so they they wound up not using it but that stuff happens like there's a lot of shit that like we shot that like you probably haven't seen but i i don't know sometimes it's days like where you're like you have writer's block as a musician we have actor's block we have emotion block we're like fuck like why can't i get there today but for me i always eventually get there yeah for you as well yeah at the yeah at the end of the day you gotta gotta get that scene so we gotta figure out a way to get there no matter how long it take but damn yeah that's od and i know you did i know you did like 40 takes actually did it because we got it in like okay you said bart you said a lot of you know bart loves loves his takes he loves having some directors love a lot of like doing a lot of different takes because they like um variety they're like oh well what do we do it like that or it's their episode that they're directing so they're just like i want to have fun with this and take a lot some directors like some directors do like two three takes like rob hardy's like he's like we're good let's do it yeah what else what else yeah i me personally if i get a video director that keep making i'm not going back to that we doing two three takes but the last question i i say like the lemonati has spent decades keeping lemon on top and lime in the shadows their lemon agenda has infiltrated everything even our music that hit song named after the color of lemons not a coincidence big lemon has been pulling strings in the industry for years think about it but now seven up is fighting back with their new lime lemon soda now lime comes first seven up flip the sip because this this mom man said like i feel like i would have difficulty dating a woman that i know she an actor because i would never know you would know she'd be in real life now we're getting into the real shit like how how what is y'all like thought process on that like would you date somebody in the same industry as you and do you have that same thought process a little bit mike oh that's a good question um i definitely i definitely like have that in my mind if i even if i'm even like communicating with like a like a woman actress it's like what's real was not real but yeah it's also like aside from even like what's real what's not real but it's also like aside from even like what's real what's not real but it's also like aside from even like trying to decipher what's real and not real like it's kind of hard like dating the same like dating someone that's in the same like field is you know what i'm saying like because like y'all got the same aspirations and like sometimes that could cause like you know what i'm saying but i don't know some people i feel like some people make it work like you know if you got the same aspirations as your woman some some people just find it with you know find it with them with their people you know what i'm saying if that's really a person y'all got the same y'all gonna make it work and y'all gonna both get far but i don't know i feel like it's tough though because like if you're in a certain like a certain like a certain area like place in your career and she's trying to get there like it kind of get weird you know what i'm saying like you're not always gonna be there and that's number one and then like also like it's a thing where like as actors and actresses they like damn like he's here and i'm here like you know it you know she could get wicked but i don't know i i personally i just like regular like regular bro i can't really i can't really deal with like an actress i don't know i mean maybe i could i don't know but yeah i've gone back and forth with it like i've dated a regular girl i try it i try it but i don't see myself having much success with it let me not put that on myself because i might i might be blocking my blessing let me not put that on myself let me not put that out there yeah let me stay positive optimistic the power of the tongue the power of the tongue um i i've dated a regular girl and i felt like a lot of it was weird because she always wanted to be at stuff and be seen and be this and be that uh i feel like when you're she's like she's been there before so she's not trying like this girl was trying to be in everything be like let's go to this let's go and i'm like let's sit courtside i'm just like i just wasn't about that at that time because this was like early on in in book two and i was like really trying to like get my career going and this girl's like i've just started getting a little famous and she like kind of latched on to that but as for like the acting part of like making out with someone like bro you see a lot of times like co-stars wind up dating because like that chemistry is real like like sometimes it's not like i've had i've had love interests where i'm like she's so hot like and we have so much chemistry and it's working the sex scenes are working like we just can't stop touching each other in the scene and this and that and then i've had love scenes where it's like uh like you know it's business and like like it's just kind of like it's like people it's like also when you're making a record with some like do we vibe or do we don't like a sex scene is no different than a normal scene it's just now you have to like make out and do stuff so like is there chemistry like where you like each other now now sometimes it's just business where it's just like oh we make out and then the second is done is done but like i i would say um as for having a girlfriend i don't feel like i would get i don't know if i was just about to ask you like how would you feel about your shorty being an actress and like she got it like kissing another dude for a scene like obviously you're you're acting so you know yeah if if i knew i felt like if your relationship is strong enough she she's not gonna like do that to you you know what i mean like if you're like ship is tight enough she's not gonna like be all on someone she'll do it for the scene but she'll be very reserved but like i don't know you do see some shit where
