For those of you who were wondering, yes, the Sherpa does, in fact, listen to every podcast featured in this episode. For those of you who weren't wondering, he does this while in a pair of feety pajamas and a bright yellow top hat he stole from a dancer on the old Solid Gold TV show. Hello there, rebels of the Sherpa-lution, and welcome to Podcast Picks with Jim the Podcast Sherpa. That is me coming to you from Sherpa-lution. We're here in the Sherpa Chalet, high atop Mount Podcastia, where I overlook the millions and millions of podcasts that are out there. And I want to find some for you to add to your podcast playlist. I know, nice guy, right? I don't know. Somebody thought it wasn't a nice thing for me to do. Whatever. So, we are here, and this week, we are talking about podcasts. And we are doing some Sherpa samples. And then, I'm going to talk about some of the things that I'm going to talk about today. And that is where, of course, I dive into some of the podcast charts to take a listen and a look at some of the podcasts that just might be a good fit for your podcast playlist. So, we will get to that in a minute. But there are a few little things that I would like to talk to you about before we do so, if you don't mind. So, I know there's probably a few things that you're wondering. Question one, did you. Did you really relocate SherpaLoo Studios? Yes, I did. That is absolutely true. And we're in a new place. And there's a couple of little things I probably want to do down the road, depending on how many more shows I have in me. And, you know, I noticed I kind of bang into the microphone a lot. And so, I apologize for that. Everyone's, well, you hear that little sound. And I try not to use my hands when I talk, which is really hard for me. But I know there are noises there. And I'm trying to use some new filters to try and take out a lot of the background noise so that I sound professional and clear, or at least clear. So, yes, that is true. So, that is one thing. I forgot that I also want to thank you all, the faithful rebels of the SherpaLution, for listening. And, you know, I was on a previous podcast, a platform for about five years from 2019 to 2024. And it was okay. And I had amassed about 22,000 downloads in about five years. And I'm on a new platform for a year and a half. And I have to say that in that year and a half, I've already gotten over 10,000 downloads. So, thank you very much for that. I appreciate that. So, some of you who were listening before are still listening. And maybe we've got a lot of new listeners, too, which I'm always happy to hear and happy to know about. So, for you newer rebels of the SherpaLution, welcome aboard. This is it. This is the big time. I don't know what the big time is. I have no idea. So, I wanted to say thank you for that. And I'm sure, the one question that may be on some of the regular listeners' minds is, what's up with all the ads, Sherpa? Again, in the earlier platform, I did some ads, but not really a lot. But I know I'm doing a lot more. You will hear a lot more in the course of this episode. But, you know, and this is going to sound like mansplaining, so I apologize if it does. But I'm trying to break it down as simple as possible. So, podcasts do cost money to make. They're not really entirely free, especially if you want to make them sound nice and presentable for people to really enjoy in their headphones and have good audio and even get good guests. And I know, you know, there are podcasts hosts who use video and, you know, video subscriptions can get kind of pricey. No video on this podcast just yet. But I do really try my best to give you the best audio that you can hear so you are comfortable. So, I had been trying for a while to make a little bit of money with the podcast. And that's what I'm doing. I'm making a little bit of money. I checked my totals and I'm going to humble brag here. Since monetizing, I can tell you that I have earned $13. Really, that's the actual count. And I mean, I didn't even hit that point just yet. So, yes. So, that Ferrari will be mine probably within the next 50, 60 years. So, if I keep on this pace, I'll be, I don't know, driving it like Fred Flintstone or something like that by this time. Or hopefully, it'll be a self-driving car. But every podcast that I listen to, it's either they're famous people and they have sponsors like Bill Maher who has a contract with HBO or Conan O'Brien who has this contract with Sirius XM. You know, that's where their revenue comes from. There are other podcasters who just have ads like mine, like Clark Howard. He has like regular commercials. And the Elvis Duran show, which, you know, they're a pretty big radio show in New York City. But they work for iHeartRadio and they provide a lot of ads on them too. And there are also some like, Dr. Andrea Wojnicki of Talk About Talk. She offers her services as does Linda P. Jones and also Adam Shibley who does Podcasting Business School. They offer their services and that's how they make their money, from their services. So, I don't really offer a service except to just blather here away on the microphone. So, I figured a little extra money in my pocket, you know, will definitely help go towards the show. And hopefully, if we get, even more listeners, you know, maybe I can do some good with that money. It will probably help pay for some of the expenses that I may incur. I mean, it's not like thousands or anything like that for me personally, but I know there are podcasters who do spend thousands to get their podcast out there. So, every little bit helps. That's the way that I look at it. I know that some of them are awkwardly placed, and especially you may hear an ad pop up in the middle of a conversation. For the Sherpa Selects that we do on Saturday, and don't forget that Sherpa Selects on Saturday, there's really not too much I can do with the placement of the ads because those were recorded a while ago without taking a commercial break. And sometimes, you know, when I'm recording these things, they just pop up. I think I would probably go crazy. There will always be one in the beginning, one at the end, and probably one or two in the middle. Hopefully, I will get some actual sponsors, and I can do some sponsor ad reads because I enjoy doing those. Like when I did those for the Magic Mind people, and they were really nice and a pleasure to work with. And hopefully, you know, there'll be some products that I believe in, and I can get their word out through this podcast. So, I mean, it didn't really explain what's with all the ads, but that's what it is. You know, we want to try and do a little bit to pour a little income into this. I'm sure maybe if you were in the same position, you'd like to make some money, too. And by the way, speaking of making money on podcasts, you know, that's one delusion that a lot of people have that want to get into podcasts. They think that they're going to put out this episode and millions of people are going to listen, and they're going to make millions of dollars, and it just does not work that way, Rebels. It does take time, you know, and it takes patience. And I'm still not making millions of dollars. I'm still not close to it. But that's not the reason why I do the show. It's because I like podcasts, and I like sharing this stuff with you, and it's been a pleasure since 2019 to talk to so many people and get to meet people that I never thought I would meet in the first place. And then some, you know? So, with all that said, I think that we can head right on into Sherpa Samples. Okay. So what have I been checking out that you can add to your podcast playlist uh two hot takes is hosted by a lady named morgan uh they have guests on and i guess they discuss things that are like on reddit and a lot of uh situations and the episodes that i checked out she was uh interviewing uh comedian ron funches do you guys know him he is on the tv show loot that's on apple tv and he's hilarious and he's a stand-up also really interesting guy and you know they were just answering questions off of reddit like what would you do in this situation and what do you think about this what do you think about that so uh there's your hot takes two guests get it so yeah pretty cool show uh the day back show with eric nam uh in the episode he was talking to a singer named taeyang and uh i don't really know too much about him he is i believe a k-pop singer i'm not sure um i hope somebody will understand fill me in on this that is listening uh the interview was largely in korean and i do not speak korean but if you are a person who speaks korean maybe this is one that you would like to add to your podcast playlist um you know it sometimes you can kind of interpret what was going on but uh it sounded like they're very funny too i mean they were definitely having a lot of fun because there definitely was a lot of laughter in the studio that you can hear during the course of the interview well i guess it's like a musical show and he gets to talk to uh popular artists the factinate uh that's a podcast i guess it talks about a lot of uh pop culture uh celebrities and items and issues throughout history uh they talked about actress barbara eden now uh for those of you who were not around in the 60s and 70s uh she was genie in the tv show i dream of genie where she played guess what a genie but uh really the episode wasn't about her it was about her son and unfortunately he had a lot of problems with drug addiction and they talked about her life and uh how he figured in her life as well with a lot of his problems and just the kind of like a dark secret that i guess he had to live with while being you know known as this popular actress on television jamie social is a podcast i guess has to do a lot with like human interaction and stuff like that you do a lot of stick figures a lot of these by the way uh had video and animation and this episode that i listened to talked about what you were probably like if you grew up in the 70s so i guess that was a decade that shaped a lot of mindsets of people and uh what you kind of stepped away with when you lived through that period of time so i guess that's a podcast i guess has to do a lot with period of time i guess because what was going on in society see daily uh that's a podcast that has to do with uh reactions that those are really popular and i know i think in the next batch of sharper samples there's another reaction podcast and it's just really watching people react to things that are on the screens and this one was kind of i don't know it was goofy uh the question was you know when did kid shows become so inappropriate but a lot of the clips that they were listening to was that he was listening to were from family guy and i never really considered family guy a kid's show it's very very very uh adult humor it was funny to listen to but i don't know i think they kind of missed the mark with that episode but you know that's what those shows are you know it's just a lot of reactions to things that are out there conspiracy theories well i guess you can figure what that one's about and it was about the death of actor george reeves so again if you are under 40 years old you probably don't know who george reeves was and he was superman on tv i believe in like the 50s maybe in the 60s i guess and uh it was in black and white and the story was that uh he felt that he was becoming typecast as superman and ultimately because he couldn't get any roles he ultimately killed himself and this episode presents you with a story about the death of actor george reeves and the death of actor the theory that he did not kill himself but that he was murdered law and crime on the case with chris stewart this is a body cam video show and it follows uh police officers and the uh incidents that they encounter and the episodes that i checked out was about a florida woman who set her house on fire after a domestic dispute and uh everything that kind of ensued after that and you really see the reactions to uh you know the police and of course to the uh people who were involved in these crimes there's another one that i've checked out in our next episode and it was just crazy but we'll talk about that when uh we do another episode we're all insane it's not an opinion that says the name of a podcast and it's hosted by a lady named devora roloff and it's really just listening to people and it's really just listening to people tell their stories and a lot of them involve a lot of trauma the episodes that i listened to had to do with a young woman who met this guy and ultimately he was sex trafficking her so uh she was telling her ordeal from beginning to end about what she had to endure uh while in this relationship it's uh yeah really scary stuff that you know you do hear these stories and it's like wow you didn't think people could get themselves out of it you know you didn't think people could get themselves into these situations but sadly enough this lady did and uh she's doing a lot better now a bit of optimism that is hosted by a guy named simon sinek and i believe he is an author and also a pretty well-known public speaker i've heard his name mentioned a lot and i've never really gotten to know much of his work but yeah uh and he talks to a lot of people about a lot of different things and uh he was talking to an expert about overcoming socialization and how to overcome socialization and how to overcome socialization and how to overcome social awkwardness and uh i really like him he's a very interesting speaker and uh the conversations that he had in the show were really fascinating to listen to and uh if you have that social awkwardness you know maybe it's something that you might want to check out and maybe check out some of the other episodes too again you know he definitely a podcaster who knows how to hold your interest so certainly worth checking out and finally uh my favorite lyrics with devin walker i didn't know that uh devin walker was actually a cast member of the saturday night live tv show i think he's pretty recent on the show and he actually interviewed a lady named molly carney who was previously on the show and she was on a tv show uh after she left saturday night live called dmv and she was so funny i would love to have molly carney on the show because i think you probably have been hysterical throughout the whole interview and uh really funny and i think fascinating and uh what we wanted for our favorite lyrics from the johnny cash song a boy named sue written by anybody anybody shell silverstein bet you did not know that okay so there are 10 podcasts for you that are out there that maybe you just might want to add to your podcast playlist and i'm not a boy named sue but i'm a podcaster named jim the podcaster that was a good one that was a good one pretty cheesy i know let's head on into the outro shall we it looks like the sherpa is no longer locked in the bathroom at the sherpa chalet so we can finally get back to the show thank you so much for hanging out here with me in sherpa lou studios all by my lonesome and uh we will do more episodes of sherpa samples and i'm working on getting some interviews with some podcasters and hopefully some more true crime stuff that will be coming out very shortly uh we'll see what materializes but uh maybe i'll even do another sherpa samples if nothing does materialize but uh some other stuff that i'm working on could be pretty interesting and i hope that it does materialize soon and that's the kind of stuff that you will hear that debuts on wednesdays and as i mentioned also on saturdays uh sherpa selects those are my favorite podcast episodes that i've gotten to do uh we were in season eight of the show and i'm working on getting yeah we actually got through i think we were in 2021 if i'm not mistaken but we will be uh zipping through those i think the one this week is i think uh christian madsen and uh that was a really funny one because he had a podcast called the random christian show and he's got a new podcast out now maybe we'll get christian back on and have some laughs because i think he would definitely love to come back on the show we had a really good time so i hope you had a good time as well and i will see you next week
