The Week 7 NFL kickoff features a pivotal matchup between Drake May of the New England Patriots and Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears, two of the most promising quarterbacks from the 2024 draft class. The game highlights their development: Williams has shown improved patience and system trust after a rocky early season, while May has stabilized after injury-related struggles. Both teams face significant offensive line injuries, forcing them to rely on discipline and defensive schemes. The Patriots' defense, led by Dennis Allen and featuring aggressive plays from Kyler Gordon, is a major factor, while the Bears' physical running game and revamped coaching staff add depth. Analysts emphasize that this game may serve as a blueprint for future Super Bowl matchups, with both quarterbacks expected to face off multiple times in the coming years. The broadcast also includes a college football segment featuring a guest picker from the Utah Utes, with commentary on the team’s resurgence and strong alumni engagement. A notable betting line is set for both quarterbacks to surpass 210 passing yards, reflecting the game’s intensity and high expectations. The discussion underscores how young quarterbacks are evolving through experience, with a focus on trust, adaptability, and teamwork—key traits that could define the future of the NFL.
Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to another fabulous Week 7 NFL Kickoff Thursday, October 22nd, 2026.
This sports program begins now.
Football!
It is hard, I'm going to be honest. I was a little gun-shy on it as I sit here for the final day in lovely Los Angeles, the NFL studios.
And speaking of the NFL, Week 7 of the NFL season kicks off tonight in a huge, huge way.
Two quarterbacks from the 2024 draft class, which might be considered the best draft class of all time whenever it's all said and done,
will joust on Amazon Prime as Drake May, who's hot as a firecracker, takes on Caleb Williams,
who came back from a hamstring injury last week and was damn near perfect.
Started 10-for-10, ended up 30-for-36, and this is a team that wanted to break the all-time offensive records
in all of the NFL's history.
Are they back on track doing that after having some time with Case Keenum and Tyson Bajan at quarterback?
Caleb Williams is back. Ben Johnson has a new dance move in the locker room after a win.
They have the same good-better-best-never-let-it-rest-till-you're-good-is-better-and-you're-better-is-best mantra.
But what they are is a team that's trying to get to where the New England Patriots were just last year.
New England Patriots were in the Super Bowl. How were they going to bounce back? How were they going to recover?
Well, they came out and didn't look so sharp.
Leads to the Seahawks on opening night.
Wait a minute, are the New England Patriots in trouble?
They seemingly have flipped the switch and become very, very hot.
Mike Vrabel had a very loud offseason, that's for sure.
But as a leader of men in football, he has been nothing short of fantastic everywhere he's been.
At the Tennessee Titans, which just beat the Indianapolis Colts for the first win of the season,
he led them to AFC number one overall seat.
He led them to having the most amount of wins in the AFC South over the last ten years.
Then he was let go out of his contract.
Went to Cleveland Browns as an independent contractor, consultant-type guy.
And then whenever the New England Patriots job opens up,
Mike Vrabel is back in the place where he won Super Bowls, where he's a legend, where he's an icon,
where he's in the Ring of Honor, I do believe.
And now he gets a chance to lead them, potentially, to a back-to-back Super Bowl appearance.
Now, it didn't feel like that was going to be the case at the beginning of the season.
Drake May seemingly regressed, and then he got really hot.
How will tonight be?
We shall see.
Kirk Herbstreit will join us in about 15.
We can't wait to catch up with him.
It's not just me here in beautiful Los Angeles.
It's also a man who was a former ship painter.
Bubba Gumpinos here.
Gumpy!
Hey, Gumpy!
Happy football.
Kick off, everybody.
Yeah, happy football kickoff to you as well, Gumpy.
Miami Dolphins going to get good quick, right, Gumpy?
Plus five and a half.
Big win coming against the Jets on Sunday.
Miami Hurricanes, number one team in the country, though.
Gumpy!
Yes, sir.
Hotel you're staying in had no power for 24 hours, Gumpy!
Yes, sir.
I didn't know that was possible in the Lord's year 2026, but full power outage at an entire hotel
is certainly throwing a wrench in some things, but we are incredibly
lucky and thankful to be here.
The boys are back in the Thunderdome in Indianapolis, Indiana, including a man who's a college football
national champion, Super Bowl champion, Ryder Cup winner, A.J.
Hawko.
Hawko, what's up, buddy?
Hello!
How you doing, man?
I'm doing great, man.
Happy kickoff football Friday or football Thursday, as Gumpy said.
Sorry, he threw me off a little bit on that one.
What is wrong with you?
Are you okay?
There's a pregnant pause, as they say, and I'm not sure if you wanted me to speak.
If you were done speaking yet, I was thinking of Gumpy and his intro.
Intro to the show, and obviously his love for the University of Miami.
We know he's been on the bandwagon since at least 2022, so yeah, Gumpy is pumped about
his Miami Hurricanes.
Yeah, yeah.
I think Gumpy had a good intro to the show.
I think I did that, actually.
I think I did the intro to the show, and I think Thursday is always the NFL kickoff.
It has been for some time.
Let's go to the talks table at Boston Corner and at Ty Schmidt.
What year do we think the NFL started doing Thursday night kickoffs for their weekly scheduling?
I think 10 years.
2005?
I think 2007.
I played in a game in Dallas.
I was on NFL Network on Thursday night.
I think it was one of the first ones.
Maybe 2008.
Okay, so maybe 20 years or so.
So it is kickoff Friday, I guess, A.J., in your brain, and that's what I like about you.
Goldfish.
Who cares?
We're living in the moment, and tonight the NFC North is represented by the Chicago Bears.
A.J., this is potentially a rivalry that could end up with these two quarterbacks.
Jousting on the biggest stage multiple times in the Super Bowl.
Representing the AFC, who's already done it, Drake May and the New England Patriots out of the 2024 draft class.
Representing the NFC out of the 2024 draft class, Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears with Ben Johnson.
On the biggest stage, 600 plus million people are going to watch him play numerous times in the Super Bowl.
That's what we potentially have in store tonight is a preview of what the future looks like.
Do you agree with that sentiment, A.J., that this could potentially be what the Super Bowl looks like?
Maybe three, four, five, six, seven.
Eight times in the future as these lads hope to represent their respective conferences.
Well, I mean, any time you have an AFC team playing an NFC team, yeah, technically it is potentially a Super Bowl matchup.
It's not the first thing, I guess, I thought of when I saw this matchup, saying this is, hey, we're going to be watching the Super Bowl preview for the next five or six years.
I know that was some other people's.
Fifteen years, twenty years.
The Patriots were in the Super Bowl last year.
The Bears were not, obviously.
We know they're a much, much improved team with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams.
I'm glad he's back in the lineup.
But I guess the first thing on my head, on my mind, was not that, hey, this could potentially be a Super Bowl matchup for years to come.
Let's go to one half of the hammer.
Dodd.
Cowboys, AP tone.
Patriots getting three points tonight.
How do you feel about it, Tone?
I feel really good.
If you're a Patriots fan, the dog has covered ten straight primetime games, which is a pretty good run in that situation.
And Mike Vrabel is one of two head coaches who actually have a winning record.
As a dog.
I believe he's like 27 and 25 now.
The only other person to do that is Matt LaFleur.
Fun fact.
So, Vrabel is great in this position.
Primetime dogs have been great.
I kind of like it if you're a Pats fan.
Okay, if you're a Pats fan, you've got to like a lot of things sitting at four and two with where you were at the beginning of the year.
But you see that number four with the four wins.
Let's go to the talks tables at Boston Corner.
Who have you really beat, though?
Have you guys really beat anybody?
You know, like, is it Chicago Bears?
Oh.
Yeah.
We've watched them.
Absolutely.
Cook, only favored by three.
Who have the Patriots really beat this year, Con Man?
Well, they dismantled the Pittsburgh Steelers, the number one team in the AFC North, some would say, pretty, pretty well at home.
That'd be one.
Oh, really?
Anybody else?
So did the Pittsburgh Steelers.
They didn't have it figured out yet.
Aaron Rodgers wasn't there yet.
Mike McCarthy still had a healthy ankle.
They haven't figured out yet.
Who else have you beat, though?
That's true.
We also hung 45 on the new trendy Las Vegas Raiders, held them to under 20 points.
That was pretty, pretty dominant of a win, you could say, as well.
Really?
Because the Raiders have been keeping games very close.
We all think they're maybe next.
So you're saying you guys beat the hell out of it.
Did you beat anybody else, though?
There's nobody else that you beat that was pretty good, were you?
Yeah, actually, we're the only team this year to successfully dismantle Josh Allen.
We beat the shit out of the Bills on the road, actually, nonetheless.
So, yeah, when you kind of stack the New England Patriots wins, not even including the Jets, when you stack those three wins against,
everyone else in the NFL, you could argue, probably three of the better wins across the board for the New England Patriots.
Not too easy of a schedule, you could say.
Yeah, because I much, well, last year you guys had the easiest schedule.
I remember you guys were scheduled merchants.
I didn't know you had that many big-time wins because I genuinely believe that the Buffalo Bills are one of the best teams in all of ball right now.
I forgot you guys went up there and got a huge win over the Buffalo Bills because all I could think about is what happened with the Jags.
Isn't that kind of what it gets brought up and hung over your head all the time?
Con man as a whole is the Patriots.
What happened with the Jags?
I think not enough people have enough respect for the Jags, but the Jags did it to you guys earlier this year, did they not?
Yeah, for sure they did.
It was 35-6 on the road in Jacksonville.
It was a dismantling.
They did beat the crap out of us, and that's when we were 1-2.
We've rattled off three straight since the NFL ranked us in their power rankings after Week 3 at No. 31,
and it felt like everyone kind of just wrote the pats off.
They have been banged up against the Bills, actually.
To your point, we won without Christian Gonzalez and A.J. Brown.
They're arguably two of our top three players, so that is the other thing as well.
The Patriots have kind of been able to win despite being littered with injuries, as many, many teams are right now.
But yeah, after that Jags dismantling, people were really high on the Jags, kind of forgot about the pats.
Kind of perfect for New England Patriots fans because now we've just been stacking them, stacking them, stacking them,
and now hopefully tonight, primetime, everyone gets to watch just them play a football game,
and hopefully we can prove that it's not just scheduled merchants.
Like you mentioned, it's more so, hey, this team's for real once again.
I like that the Massos can always find a reason to be spiteful or find a chip on their shoulder.
The Patriots are all the way back, seemingly.
That AFC East has a team that has been very dominant in it,
and we are incredibly lucky and thankful to announce that, ladies and gentlemen, this weekend.
College game day is heading back to the lovely state of Utah.
The Utes have represented very well.
Very well in college football for a while.
The mighty Utah student section has continued to be one of the largest, most dominant, and loud groups of humans
to ever be assembled in any situation ever.
College game day on Saturday morning, we're expecting to be an absolute blast.
We hope you will join us.
The man who will be representing the Utah Utes as a celebrity guest picker
is not only a football legend and icon, not only a touchdown catcher for Josh Allen,
not only a man that's very tall, very athletic, very handsome,
but a man who's now going to try to top what Steve Young did less than a week ago
when he went a perfect 10 for 10 on the Utes.
his picks a man is going to do the same damn thing this weekend tight end for the buffalo bills
how you doing brother i appreciate you so much for uh for joining us here dalton getting back
to utah this weekend gonna do some guest picking how do you feel and uh do you know steve young
went 10 for 10 just last weekend nothing no sweat brother no sweat trying to follow that entire
thing yeah uh unfortunately my pickings last week i think i went uh one for 10 in the tight
end room so i got some uh i got a little battle ahead but uh first game back at utah um a night
game at utah you know those are special uh it should be a great atmosphere great experience
and uh yeah i guess i do have to try to top steve young yeah definitely him going 10 for 10 is
outrageous especially with the unpredictability of the sport and what happened on saturday is
the first time ever
you've been on the show
five of the top seven lose so absolute insanity nobody's expecting you to be perfect i am excited
for you to be with us thank you for agreeing to do it can you tell me a little bit about the
turnover happening in utah right now coach scally and where winningham leaves how have
has he kept the alumni connected because i know he's been there for a long time and how do you
feel about the current trajectory of the squad squad with him in charge i mean what starting
six and oh it's it's hard not to you know feel real good about what he's doing with the program
he was my defense coordinator when i was there so he you know he interacted with me uh a lot more
than i feel like defense coordinators normally do and and his his main thing has been you know
getting alumni back to campus and keeping those guys involved and uh i think he's doing a great
job of that um just seeing some some people show up uh for some home games some people coming back
to utah so it's uh my first time ever coming back for a game um and one i'm really excited for
where are you right now that looks gorgeous behind you yeah i'm really excited about it i'm really
this is not buffalo new york this is uh this is austin texas believe it or not oh my god good for
you you've earned all of that uh can you tell me a little bit about the bills this year we just had
to talk obviously about a loss that you guys have the only one sorry the patriots are playing tonight
you know you know what it is i mean we would do it if uh any other team was playing tonight and
you had beat them which you had beat everybody but the patriots let's not talk about that though
let's talk about what you that offense josh allen and this you know new
head coach and joe brady are being able to kind of accomplish so quickly how do you feel about
where the bills are right now and your offense is seemingly unstoppable is that how you guys
feel as well and is that the goal every single drive i mean yeah the goal every single drive
is just to go get points um obviously you want to get touchdowns in this league but you know
that's the important thing but uh you know josh has just been balling out this year and uh just
feel like everything's kind of clicking joe brady is doing a fantastic job with kind of dialing stuff
keeping the offense having some fresh new looks but uh um i think it's just kind of been a seamless
transition you know joe's implemented you know everything he's wanted to do and um you know his
main thing is just put the football down let's just go play it doesn't really matter where when
what the situation is you know a game on the line like let's just go out there and do it
young culture youth culture joe brady first year as the head coach he stays in the system jim leonard
new dc you just talked about coach scally being your defense coordinator utah coming to talk to
you can you tell me a little bit about what's going on in the system and what's going on in the
team so tell me a little bit about how jim leonard is in his role with you guys and how he is in the
building former player so i assume fits in magically with the culture you guys have up there
yeah no jim's awesome um a little more quiet than uh morgan scally i'd say but uh the more
you get to know him you know the more he kind of opens up a little bit but um you know obviously
having the bye week right now is pretty nice it's early bye but just being able to do some
self-scout and everything i feel like we're going to come out and and kind of just be firing at all
cylinders i think that's kind of the goal you know with the bye
weeks just come back feeling good and fresh all right well i don't know what you're doing out
there in the middle of seemingly nowhere i'm trying to look behind you is that a mush is that
a force is that just great what is behind you there it's a little pool right here and uh i
think it's lake austin or lake travis is down there uh yeah i enjoy this a little bit i think
salt lake's a little chillier this weekend so um it's about 80 out here right now trying to enjoy
the sun before it disappears in buffalo for the
about five months hey man we're out in indiana dude you don't see it for a while that sun is uh
that sun becomes quite a stranger there for a while and when it comes back it is spectacular
for you guys the start has been magical we can't wait to see you on saturday thank you for joining
us brother absolutely thanks for having me i'll see you saturday ladies and gentlemen that's dalton
kinkade aj i like dalton kinkade getting a chance to go back i also like that morgan scally because
he was hired from within his job he's a great guy he's a great guy he's a great guy he's a great guy
trying to keep the contacts with the alumni that's a huge part of everything your organization uh if
you see that you still have respect for tradition and those behind you it can help with recruiting
it also gives the guys something to still feel attached to whenever a new coach comes in
usually guys lose the connection and that's a huge part of their lives their college football
team so i like that morgan was hired from within and has remained um diligent on those
relationships aj yeah don't you think if you let's say you took a job like as a head coach
somewhere whether it's nfl or college the first one of the first things you do is try to organize
like a an alumni weekend or try to some kind of mass email or somehow let everybody know that
played there like that's in good standing with the organization like hey you're welcome back at
any time like please come back and and impart your wisdom to our young players here yeah i
think it's a huge deal i i think it's a big like statement to everybody on what you're about too
like that's san francisco 49ers alumni night the other night
i've never seen i'm being serious dumpy was it 150 guys i they were maybe announced 150 guys
yeah it was unbelievable you forget almost because the niners have been great for so many years in
the past they just kept coming and coming montana young all of them is incredible to see it was like
150 announcements i i the pa announcer how about jack blah blah blah and yeah flying back to
youngstown didn't i know steve young and them talked about they used to like have big get-togethers back in youngstown
with a lot of the 49ers players like after they would obviously won multiple super bowls but yeah
that's a that's the thing that you don't see at every nfl team no and even if there is an alumni
it's like five to ten of them five to ten guys this was a hundred guys being announced i think the
i don't know how they project how much time that's gonna take to announce all those people like to
fit into the game schedule because there's so much that you got to get in before the kickoff and
like this is when the national anthem is happening this one flyover is happening this one kickoff is
happening this one intros are happening like everything's to the minute so for them very close
to game time i mean that was the last time out probably before kickoff being like we'll announce
every single alumni that comes here i've never seen that before there that list had to be six
pages long but it also told me like man look how much these guys love the niners like santa claire
is not easy to get to i'm sure a lot of those guys aren't living in there i don't know maybe they are
but i'm sure a lot of guys traveled in for that to get up there to be able to do that and represent
them for the franchise i loved all of it i loved everything about it there was big pops for people
that i'd never heard obviously like local heroes get a big time pop and then they saved joe and
steve for close to last and just the eruption from that place was uh it was special shout out to utah
can't wait to get out there joining us now ladies and gentlemen as a man who's going to be on a call
tonight alongside al michaels for potentially a preview aj is it potentially you are potentially
you are correct you gotta remember this guy's a green bay packer i said this this morning whenever
i called back to the boys at thunderdome i said this is maybe like a preview of a couple you didn't
say maybe you were very certain like you said the next we could be seeing this matchup the next five
to ten years in the super bowl is from what i heard coming through that well well i said like
15 20. i was actually a little bit more dramatic but it is it is a potential preview of how good
these guys are so young it's like so early in their careers things have happened now drake has
already made to the super bowl so like he's checked a box hasn't won a super bowl which is a whole
another one that's going to be held over his head and caleb's head forever but both these guys we
could all see playing against each other in super bowl numerous times over the next 15 years and aj
says the bears are we talking about the bears does caleb play for the bears and i love that response
from you aj because you're a green bay packer and the rivalry runs deep joining us now is a man who
might be able to give us a little bit more detail on how both these lads feel going into this week
seven kickoff thursday aj ladies and gentlemen the voice of thursday night football on amazon prime
what's up boys herbie i don't know if you saw at the beginning
after i did it i did i did yeah yeah friday is your fight friday's kickoff day it's friday it's
thursday don't take the abuse aj it's not abuse i'm okay i can handle it he's abusing us i love
adversity kirk that's how it works he's abusing us my ears had to hear the kickoff nfl kicks off
its week on fridays that hasn't happened for two decades i'm uh you know that's a little problematic
for me herbie okay let's let's talk about tonight's kickoff this is a good one this is a good one herbie
uh we'll get into dalton kincaid being the guest picker here uh at the end whenever we dive into
college ball which we are all excited about i know you're pumped up about as well you you know him
pretty well from thursday football and stuff but drake may caleb williams on thursday night football
this is showcase of the now and potentially the next 20 years i know you're jacked up i know michaels
is i know amazon is but can you tell me a little bit about what you expect from these two as we got
got great defenses playing the night as well do we not yeah yeah i'm with you man i i it does feel
like that you know it does feel like with not just the young quarterbacks but with the head coaches
um they've really done a great job of developing cultures that can sustain a certain level i mean
when ben johnson went into chicago what he was you know facing not just he did he have a talented
quarterback but they were trying to build pieces around caleb williams when he first got there
and they they've done that you know with offensive line play with obviously receivers tight ends
um running backs the whole thing so i mean and they're playing great defense so dennis allen is
uh is an aggressive guy we've seen the success that he's had i don't know if coach is is there
or not but he could tell you a lot about dennis allen his reputation going back to new orleans
um you know i i feel that they've got the pieces on that side of the ball that's going to give them
um a much better defense
than they were a year ago uh i think i think uh it's this rookie malik muhammad out of texas gives
him better coverage ability on the outside uh you know the other thing about it is this is a team
in chicago that i think has gotten in year two with ben johnson to kind of understand he's demanding
you know he is super demanding and he and caleb williams when they first got together that was
that was a really interesting relationship you know behind closed closed doors and those two just
get on the same page we're actually more caleb trying to get on the same page with ben johnson
because we all know about caleb williams he's always made the spectacular off-schedule play
whether it was at high school oklahoma usc or rookie year at chicago but we always would say
man i wish he would just make the easy play you know take the layup you know and you don't always
have to be superman and what he's learned i think in a year and now six games with with ben johnson
is and you saw it last week in the video you're seeing he's playing
now with with great greater patience he's allowing the plays to develop and he's working through his
progressions he still has that superman power he's just not always pulling that trigger and so
if you're new england tonight defensively first things first by the way you guys know this as much
as caleb williams and these receivers get all the attention if you really know ben johnson and foxy
knows it's going back to his detroit days it really starts with their their physical running game i
mean it's a downhill thumping run the football team with an offensive line that reminds me a lot
of what they what he had in detroit i mean they're they're aggressive they're nasty and what's great
about that matchup tonight new england defensively prides themselves on being nasty you want to go to
a street alley come on i'll go to a street alley so i i love that aspect of this game that the the
defense from new england who might be my favorite unit in the nfl because they're a bunch of
undrafted free agents a bunch of guys that
have been released throughout their careers they've won first rounder gonzo at corner they
are a nasty lunch pail just eff it kind of team and i know drake may gets a lot of the attention
but what zach kerr has done as a defensive coordinator remember that story last year
terrell williams had some health issues in camp and couldn't go and zach kerr who was he was like
an analyst just four years ago and now he's the defensive coordinator of mike vrabel team
and led them you know it was a bit not
led them but was a big part of getting them to the super bowl and i talked with him this morning
just going through some of his personnel and man it's just so refreshing to see guys they don't
have a lot of superstars but they play as a unit and they've got um like i said an attitude about
them so to put the bears offense with ben johnson who's like we're coming to whip your ass and pose
our will and new england's defense it's like you may not know any of our names and we're going to
whip your ass i mean how great of a matchup is that so that's a great uh a great side of the
ball that i'm really fired up about and then drake may you know i i don't know the first three games
uh i don't know if connor felt this or not but there are a lot of people on social media talking
about well this guy's not what we thought you know this guy's turning it over he's not making
good decisions in the last three games he's been obviously much better they seem to found um kind
of a rhythm they've had a ton of injuries up front on their offensive line they're down to like
their i think their fourth and fifth or fifth i gotta look at my notes like their fifth and sixth
offensive guards i mean that's how beat up they are uh on the offensive line but i and dobbs is
down he made a touchdown catch last week he ends up going down after that play and he'll be he's on
ir i think it's this play right here actually where he scores huge play but you can see he's
right there and he was done so
anyway i i think this will be a a great game i think drake may's settled in and he's playing a
lot better he's not trying to make plays i think with some of the new players around him he felt
at times like he had to make plays i think that backfired on him early in the year and now he's
just kind of letting the game come to him like he did last year and uh should be a good one man i'm
fired up can't wait to get over there yeah i felt like a a switch was flipped by drake may and he got
really good again really quickly a.j.
brown being his weapon is certainly a convo that has happened since he got there last week he comes
back has a couple drops and then the onside kick also goes to him it doesn't end up being
fantastic what do you expect out of him and what is the conversation around
a.j. brown with the new england patriots just get ready it's a matter of time i mean with the drops
and and even on the onside kick the hands team the ball going through his hands it's a.j. brown
i mean he's coming back from a high ankle he was out he's just trying to get his feet under him
and and and just get his rhythm back i i'd be shocked if he doesn't play incredibly well i mean
this offense when they got him it was like oh my gosh you know they finally have a difference
maker i mean you got to go back to jules julian edmund or or um or gronk the last time that they
had a a player on the perimeter that scared you and now they have that so i i don't really care
what happened last week um more importantly drake may doesn't care about what happened last week
he's gonna
go right as soon as he sees an opportunity to get him the ball he's gonna get him the ball
and i think that second game back after after dealing with the injury is gonna allow him to
to play more like you'd expect him to play trust me josh mcdaniels he's gonna dial him up
drake may they're gonna they have they're not even obviously even flinching thinking about anything
i just think it was him just down for a few weeks and and just trying to get back into rhythm but
yeah you're right about drake may i i think more than anything like when i talked to josh he said
we haven't changed anything
from week one week two week three what we've done these last four weeks he said it's just a matter
of when you play that position in this system and you've got revolving door on the offensive line
and you you were hoping to have aj brown then he's out you got dobbs who's a new guy coming
over from green bay it just it takes time to create trust and and rhythm and comfort and
when the first few weeks i think he had to learn the hard way he's still a young guy as much as
success as he had last year he's still a young guy learning and so i think what he learned you
know early in the year was i can't try to force things i can't try to make plays i i gotta i gotta
let the game come to me and i think he's done that the last few weeks and i'd be surprised
uh if that doesn't continue tonight against chicago although this is a really good defense
dennis allen has a group right now that's playing well you saw what kyler gordon yep you saw what
kyler gordon did coming back right here coming off the blitz he had three sacks first game of the year
three sacks as a nickel two forced fumbles it's like one of the best games we've ever seen from
a defensive back and he what they want to do is obviously get you down like a lot of these defenses
in the nfl get you to third and six third and seven and then just dial it up in a multiple of
different ways i mean they are super multiple um very hard for the offensive line to get a handle
on where the the pressure is coming from so you know if you're new england on the road short week
it would behoove them to
stay on schedule not not deal with a lot of third and seven third and eight that would not be a good
night for this offense they got to win on first down stay at that second medium third and short
and and try to build some consistency that way tonight i love a good behoove usage you know i
love i like that you drop that in there pretty good smooth too for a six-year-old ohio and i'm
pretty impressed 60 you always throw 60 i'm 57 bro dang i didn't know
you were in 57 kirk wow i thought you were 60 for sure okay it's 57 year old six uh ohioan i will
make sure lebron james is proud to be in ohio in the other night i saw that i saw that he said i
don't know what you're like i'm not from i'm not from the midwest i'm from ohio no i think he said
i was in the midwest yeah i think he i think because they were talking about him being from
la like they were like saying yeah i think they were saying he i'm not west coast guy yeah he's
like no no he's like yeah i'm gonna go west coast yeah he's like no no he's like yeah i'm gonna go
ohio don't try me that's what he's basically saying yeah i got he's at enough through here
yeah i think he has and if he's on his heel shit like whenever he was with the heats here
a heat for this year i'm pumped for that i'm very excited for a lebron james heel run as
philadelphia 76ers then he's just hopping in helicopters negotiating into deals and then
he's off for running i like tyrese halliburton goes crazy let's not get off topic let's go back
to tonight okay connor has a question for you about uh one of the things you brought up here
multiple times
where you said um you know with new revolving doors at some positions and fifth or sixth
guards now connor has a question for that
both teams. Go ahead, Conman. Yeah, Herbert, you
mentioned how the Patriots need to stay away from
3rd and 8th, 3rd and 7th, and you
were right. I believe they're either on their 4th and
5th or 5th or 6th, depending on
if Morgan Moses can go out right tackle
when it comes to their guards, because Caleb
Lomu, their first-round pick this year,
will slide in if he can, but with
the injuries for the Patriots on their
O-line, I know the Bears have a couple
injuries at linebacker
tonight. They also have Jonah Jackson, who's
going to give it a go on their offensive line
depending on how he feels,
but do you expect them to
specifically scheme up both sides of the
ball for Chicago and
for New England based on
their injuries? Are you expecting kind of more of
a quick game from New England because
of the injuries at O-line, just get the ball out
and for Chicago, you know,
do you expect them to kind of bring a little bit
more pressure because of their injuries
at linebacker? What is kind of your expectation
of how these teams adjust
to the teams that, you know,
they're injured?
First of all, you know Vrabes, and you know how he
has that next man mentality up, and
that's getting tested right now with
these injuries on this offensive line.
Based on the way they played
last week when they sustained all
those injuries, by the way, just for fans who didn't
watch New England last week in their game against the Jets,
when we say
they're down to their last offensive lineman,
literally, Josh McDaniel
said Hunter Henry was our next
guard. He's a starting
tight end, and I mean, they were
completely depleted.
And so, but what was shocking
Connor is, they still were,
they're still moving the
ball. Like, they're still, it's
not like, oh, we got our fourth and fifth
guard in, let's abort our plan.
They kind of stuck to the plan.
I think it's really a credit to
Doug Marone, the offensive line coach, and Josh
McDaniels, and really the whole offensive
staff that
personally, I didn't feel like they missed a beat.
I didn't feel like, oh man, there's
a ton of penetration, or there's, you know,
oh, they're having to completely change
things. They kind of just kept,
doing what they do. And
that was in the middle of a game
that they're doing that.
And I mean, it really,
it's really a testament to
these guys in the film
room, and in
the room listening, you think about being
the fourth or fifth guard, how
easy it would be to drift mentally
and not prepare like you might
play. I mean, I've been a lot of
guys fall into that, and these guys
clearly did not. I mean, they
got right in there and did not
miss a beat. So
I would be surprised if
they change their approach.
I think that they're going to get, just the challenge
for, I think, Josh McDaniels is
the respect that he has for Dennis Allen
and the way the Bears' defense is playing. But
I don't think that they're going to say,
well, we've got to change, and
we've got to roll out, move the launch point.
Now, they've been getting the ball out of his hands.
I think it's like 2.8 seconds. Drake Mays
getting the ball out. So that's
kind of who they are to begin with. And
Drake, as you guys know, the
one thing that I think sometimes gets overlooked with
him is how he can create.
You know, we talk a lot about Caleb Williams
creating. Well, Drake Mays is
a hell of an athlete. I mean, growing up
his whole life, being the youngest brother,
his older brothers were just dominating
in, yeah, basketball, baseball,
everything. And he's the young guy that's
that, you know, imagine being 7, 8,
9, 10. AJ, you have young kids.
I mean, you know what that's like, the youngest guys who's trying to
keep up. That was Drake Mays' whole
life. And playing, depending on the
season, we're changing sports. And
so, I think they'll move him around.
But I think that would be the plan anyway.
And TJ Edwards is
the linebacker you're talking about from the Bears.
But I'll tell you what, man, so
far, even though he's the leader of that defense,
they've done a pretty good job. Devin Bush,
Noah Sewell, DeMarco Jackson, they got three
guys that they rotate in there. And then I think
Kyler Gordon coming back last week, and he'll be
back this week as well, at that nickel
spot. I think they feel pretty good about that
second level of this defense this week.
Yeah, and I point out that
Drake Mays is a hooper strictly because every
everybody that's able to shake people and get open
are all hoopers. People forget Drake Mays
like D1 Hooper, right?
Drake Mays could have been a D1 Hooper if he wanted
to. Crazy dunks in high
school, I feel like, watching his game footage.
Yeah, and I think he was
like a guy-guy
from my understanding.
Am I right with that? Yes, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
If he didn't play football and he just
wanted to chase basketball, he would have definitely had an
opportunity. But I think as time
went on for him, he started to realize that, you know,
football is my calling and
the quarterback position is where I really want to
try to push this and see how far I can go.
Obviously, it worked out for him.
What was that? That was up in Detroit, the 2024 draft?
I think so, right? Because. Is it Detroit? Yeah. So we saw
Drake coming in night before draft.
It was late. It was like
probably 9, 30, 10-ish?
Yeah, maybe even later because it was after
we had dinner already. Yeah, so
10, 30, 11-ish. We saw him come in
with his whole family. They found
a gym. He was just shooting.
He's putting up like 150 shots
or something like that.
I love that. Dripping sweat.
Yeah, just full drench, full sweat.
It was like 10, 30, 11 the night before the draft.
And he had just got done putting away.
So whenever you talk about it, nobody talks about his
ability. It's like he can shake, too.
It's not just like run, get out.
He is. He led North Carolina in
rushing and passing, I think, his junior year.
Imagine growing up in that family.
It's not like he just had older brothers. One brother
won the national championship in basketball.
The other was a pitcher.
He won the national championship in baseball
at the University of Florida.
You've seen the video of them golfing together.
They all just
used to pound on him.
That's his job as a little brother to just get pounded on.
And so what a benefit
to be that little brother that grew up
just getting beaten up on in every sport
they played and him trying to prove
that he could stay with his older
brothers. And now
he's in the league and
like I said, I think sometimes his competitive
spirit early in the year may be trying
to force things, just trying to be like,
I got to make a play. Got him.
But what a great learning opportunity just his third
year as a starter to realize, hey, man, I can't
be that guy. I've got to
get comfortable. I got to trust my guys. I got to trust
the system and trust my eyes and just
go play. And, you know, his
eyes tonight will be important against Dennis Allen's
blitz scheme and his legs
will be important, especially on third downs tonight.
Dennis Allen brings it to third
most in the NFL. Flores
obviously at number one. And then
Dennis Allen is at third. That NFC
North has these quarterbacks
in potential hell. Here is
the highlights of Drake May from high
school. We just found this via Carlos A. Lopez
tweet. And
hey, how you doing? How you doing? I'm Drake May.
Very kind. Very nice. I will make
every single shot. And then whenever you get
me out here, I'm about to go
crazy. Give me that, Drake May.
Drive in the court. Lefty. Righty.
Pass it off. Shake. Shimmy. Step back.
Bang. Count it.
Trey Baum for Maybaum.
Oh, pump fake. Get a foul. And one. No,
just so you use the glass. Let me go ahead and hit a little
mid-range. Fade away. You got it.
My game is impeccable. I
hit it from everywhere. That's
Drake May basketball. And no look
passes. No problem to the big guy
who might be like Kessler
Walker. Walker Kessler
last night with the perfect. So Drake
May's balling tonight. We hope he does more than
just shoot hoops out there and shake people.
We hope he goes through the sky. Herbie,
this is what we are on tonight.
The name of it is called Air
Appearance. Because this could be the
future of the NFL. These two
quarterbacks. We need Drake May and Caleb to both
have 210 pass yards. That has been boosted to
plus 100. So it's being boosted
to even money. That means it is favorable
to happen, but nothing is a guarantee.
We've been on quite an L streak, Herbie.
So we need this one tonight. So
when the boys both go over 210 pass yards,
I need you up there to say
congratulations, lads.
We are happy. I'm doing it. It's no longer miserable.
I'm doing that. Thank you. Okay.
I'm doing that for you. It's going to happen.
You should. We're like 17-3 on the season.
So yeah. That's right. Yeah, but you
should be responsible if you gamble
with us on this. You should not be
an asshole. Okay? Do
not ruin it for us all. Okay?
You need to gamble responsibly.
We are setting the tone
for future generations of sports gamblers.
So let's go ahead and dabble. Let's make the
game a little bit better if we have the means for it.
And let's go this coast to coast.
Let's gamble responsibly. This is
what we're on tonight as a team, right? Dumpy,
do you hate it or love it, pal? I absolutely
love it, folks. Yes.
I like that. Yes.
I like that. There's normally some fake enthusiasm
from some of the lads. This time, it
feels like everybody's jacked up. Plus 100.
We appreciate that as well. Okay. Before
we move on to college football. Why don't we add touchdown
passes to that? Can we do that?
Easy, Herbie. That's how you lose.
Slow down. Don't get a winner here, Herbie.
Where were you before
we put this together, Herbie? Okay. If we got
so many of these, you actually can't tell us.
Hogs get slaughtered, Herbie.
Yeah. Pigs get fed. Hogs get slaughtered.
We're just hoping for 210 pass yards
for both of them to be boosted to plus 100.
We need it bad. Before we move to college football,
we got one last NFL question.
There's a Sam Darnold question
back in the Thunderdome. Go ahead, boys.
Yeah, Herbie. Obviously, you had them
in the Broncos on Thursday night.
Sam turned it over a bunch
again. A bunch again. Obviously,
he led the NFL last year, I believe, in interceptions
but was incredible in the playoffs last year.
Is there. Do you think there's. Are you worried
about Sam Darnold or do you think, you know,
he's going to figure it out again and once he gets a run
game back, we'll kind of settle down and it'll be fine?
Yeah, well, I think
that's the big thing. You know, I think
there, if anything, I think we all
already knew but were
reminded of what Kenneth Walker
meant to this offense and
how important his. Not
just his ability to make plays
but his presence and how that
ability to run the ball and how it opened
up play action opportunities for him
and Clint Kubiak's system. You know, they want
to do the same thing with
Brian Fleury who came over from Sam Fran
but, you know, nothing against the backs
that they're playing with right now, but they're more
225 pound thumpers they just don't have that guy back there right now that puts fear into a defense
and hopefully the the rookie price comes back Charbonnet comes back that one-two punch I think
Charbonnet is supposed to be back I believe this week I haven't read this week but I remember
talking we were getting ready for our game last week they were talking about uh that possibility
so if they get Charbonnet that'll help but they really need price that gives them that boom you
know that that speed back there but Sam is going to be fine I don't think there's any reason to
panic on Sam and what he's doing um I know the turnovers are a problem he's he'd be the first
one to tell you you know that that's something he's got to clean up but um long haul for this
season I'm not concerned about Sam Darnold at all he just got to get that running game going
to become more balanced with their attack yeah the run game assists on everything here's some
Hembo stats from last year to this year that Charbonnet coming back or a run game getting
established could certainly help SACT 8.4% of time this year only 5.3% of the time last year once
again run game helps with that contacts pressures and Max protection all change if you have a run
game Kenneth Walker goes to the Chiefs change them completely go ahead Herbie I just want to add to
it that if I'm defending them and I talked to Vance Joseph about this last week the Broncos
defensive coordinator who's also one of the best in the league and I said man is it as simple as
without a running game right now try to try to leverage Jackson uh and and try to make someone
else beat you like it's not going to be a good game it's going to be a good game it's going to be a good game
like it can you can you roll coverage can you double them can you bracket him try to make any
if you're going to beat us tonight Barner the tight end Cooper Cup anybody else is going to
put numbers up we're not going to let 11 uh beat us and I think most defenses are going to approach
it that way and until Seattle starts to show that they have other pieces that if you go that route
we're going to make you pay for it I think they're going to continue to face that and if I'm the
quarterback and my go-to guy is is getting bracketed or doubled or rolled up on and I'm
trying to find other guys at some point I'm going to get impatient and I'm going to want to try to
get him the ball and so um it's going to be interesting to watch the development of the
Seattle offense this year and find out what other weapons can they bring to the table to try to
create not just going 10 plays and 80 yards but try to create those explosives that that I think
we saw a lot of last year when they had Kenneth Walker in that backfield
to your point here's a hembo stat about explosive plays a Jackson Smith and jigba verse maybe the
rest of his team uh Jackson Smith and jigba targeted 717 yards or over 10 explosives for
seven touchdowns all others eight explosives 752 for four touchdowns so to your point we need some
other weapons out there in Seattle to emerge for Sam Darnold to maybe get back to what he was playing
like late in the season into the playoffs okay let's pivot over to college football a lot of
quarterback situations including your alma mater
go ahead AJ yeah Kirk he's talking about Ohio State obviously Julian Sane goes down Luke Fahey
and Tavian St Claire now I guess they have a bye week they're going to work through it and see I
guess we don't know who's going to be on the field to start their next game against when they travel
to USC but how do you see this playing out and then I don't know like what does the future look
like for uh for Ohio State Buckeyes the rest of this season no I mean that's that's the question
right um I I think that first of all we talk a lot about teams that have to go through weekend
week out body blows whereas some teams don't have as challenging of a schedule and I think people
always think that we're talking about the SEC which is not true that it's true it is in the
SEC but look at Ohio State's remaining schedule maybe himbo somebody can throw that up there it
it is dawning when you look at what they have by week this week uh USC out on the road um and then
that most of their games that they have left are are pretty challenging uh you got USC
I know Oregon's down but Oregon still has ability uh Northwestern's a top 25 team you go to Nebraska
anytime that can be a challenge and then finish in a rivalry game against Michigan so they really
don't have weeks where you can be like let's get a let's get a week where we can get these
quarterbacks some reps and try to ease them in to try to find out who's the guy you know like you
could do maybe in the non-conference early in the year I mean they're throwing right into the thick
of it and and you felt that in the Indiana game last week and Fahey came in I don't know man because
AJ I don't know how you might
go to practice and know because I'm not living in Columbus when I when I did the Ohio State Texas
game week two and I was watching teams warm up and Pat you were there I I don't know if you recognize
this but I was I was looking at the field and I was like trying to find um who's the backup
quarterback I just assumed it was the big guy right and and it wasn't Fahey was out there
throwing it with the twos and I was like wow and I I talked to some of the Ohio State staff and they
and so he just kind of emerged as the guy now I have no idea what they're going to do in this
situation um it's not like people were in all of what he did when he came in in his defense
true freshman coming in in a really tough situation against a great defense in a tough
environment by the way tip of the cap to Indiana I know they lost the game but they're they're the
team that you know the quarterback's going to have to continue to make plays but IU is you know I
picked them to go to the national title at the beginning of the year I don't feel real bad about
that right now I think Hoover's going to have to continue to do obviously uh make the plays it's
going to be needed to be made in these big games especially on the road this week at Ann Arbor this
would be a great test coming off of a disappointing loss where you're a few inches away from beating
Ohio State but they I think that again what we're realizing about Indiana is what we probably already
knew that no matter who's on that roster this is a perennial power they are a top five top seven
doesn't matter who's going doesn't matter who's coming as long as signetti is there
uh they're the real deal and I think they proved that to me in that game against Ohio State even
though they came up a little bit short but AJ to answer your question I I'm supposed to talk to
Ryan Day uh today and kind of pick his brain a little bit and find out but I'd love to uh to
find out how they're gonna handle that what are you gonna say when you talk to him that's a good
question I'm gonna ask him how the quarterback how the quarterback situations plan out which
uh which guy's he gonna go hey would you is it possible you play too early and you let you give
him the hot hand like how do we how do we work yeah I don't I don't know if he's already that's
what I want to know I don't know if he's already made up his mind based on what he's seen from camp
and these first five or six weeks and he already knows what he wants to do or if with his bi-week
he's going to throw him into the good against good let him go against the first team defense and and
find out let him face some Blitz and and um and and find out how they do I don't know I until I talk
to him I have no idea but I I'm very interested with everything they have at stake I mean they're
a team that could make a run and without Julian saying it it definitely kind of has an asterisk by
it right now yeah they just beat uh undefeated Indiana who hasn't lost in 22 straight recent
update here we believe this is the most recent update this is from uh today at 12 28. Chase
Brian at Chase a Brian underscore underscore because they're only one underscore is already
taken Ryan day on Luke Fahey and Tavian Sinclair ultimately I make final decision but you take the
input from the coaches you take the input from our personnel department then the players as well
they're the ones in the huddle with these guys that's what it comes down to so basically I think
what he's going to tell you Herbie is smart call everybody else has say I got the power and that
is what a head coach is supposed to do especially at the most important position but to your point
they can still go on and win the whole damn thing and uh the fact that Indiana is now just
understood to be a perennial powerhouse because they have Kurt Cignetti there is crazy to think
about where they were a year ago crazy and you picking them to win an Addy you are not a hard
or not an easy person to just like turn over like you have some thoughts that have been built up
over 30 years of covering the sport where it's like I have seen this this is how this is going
to go this is how this can go you're very matter of fact with a lot of things and it is fantastic
because the amount of research that you've lived through is second to none but you changing your
mind to being like nope if Cignetti's there I've seen enough I believe it I think you'll
be able to win games and that's what we're saying right is current I am saying and I think Pat I think
the coordinators as you know Shanahan on the offensive side and Brian Haynes on the defensive
side how well coached they are um going into the on the road last year to go to Eugene Oregon going
to State College going to Iowa City uh and not always having your best game and yet finding a
way to win those games I think anybody who's just being fair and just being real you have
to acknowledge what this guy has done and the consistency that he's been able to create even
losing to Ohio State I mean it wasn't like it was the way they played against Ohio State
Ohio State and Columbus three years ago when it was like okay they're they're not they're a good
cute story but they're not ready for this and then they just kept going and kept going and
kept going so man I'm all in um it took me a while to get there middle of last year is where
I started to say this this is no longer just a a cute story these guys are not going anywhere
and the reason you can say that is how sound they are how how fundamentally sound they are
they don't hurt themselves and now for them to go where they want to go Josh Hoover just like
Fernando last year he's going he's the key because because their margin of error isn't isn't real big
like they they've got to go out there and and they've got to be the offense that they're capable
of being and if if Hoover like right now I'm I'm kind of in on Hoover but I'm not like we were with
Fernando last year we were like Fernando last year we'd seen enough we're like okay I think we're still
like this weekend's a great example how will Hoover do against a desperate Michigan football
team changing quarterbacks you know what it's like when you go to that backup quarterback
there's so much energy it's like a a newfound
belief and that's what indiana's walking into so that's a that's a tough environment to to deal
with and this is a great opportunity for us to learn about who josh hoover is as in an indiana
uniform we know about him in a tcu uniform this is the week we really learn not last week to me
this week is where we really learn about iu and how real they can be seven point favorites going
into an unranked michigan but michigan's defense is a problem aj michigan's defense might be the
best in the damn country they might actually be the best defense in the country and now hoover's
got to go in there as a seven point favorite after losing to ohio state that is a tough well i guess
we learn a lot about hoover to herbie's point aj this weekend yeah we will and i think that michigan
team they they new quarterback steps in and you know you know what happens when a new quarterback
comes in breathe breathe some life into that team so i think michigan yeah this will be a telling
game i think it'll be interesting to watch seven points seems like a lot yeah probably over i'm not
necessarily thrilled about that you know and uh
no no but but at the same time you know how it is if you're a competitor this is your chance to really
put a stamp great opportunity on the indiana 2016 um i'm just looking at the board there the old
miss texas game i'm actually after game day i'm flying over to austin to call that game i i don't
know how you guys feel this feels like a pivotal game for sark for arch for texas like i i i feel
like with the way you're playing you're playing with the way you're playing with the way you're
playing with the way you're playing with the way you're playing with the way you're playing with
this thing has been trending after tennessee this game uh you know at home some of the annex on the
field it just feels like if this game goes sideways i i it's just gonna it's gonna be
it's gonna be very interesting to feel the energy in the stadium and and to feel you know you and i
talked about sark before uh pat um you know i i think sark as a coordinator as a head coach i think
he's a great offensive mind i think right now um they're in a real you know there's talk about lacy
getting some first team reps what what if what if they go three and out three and out and trinidad
over there moving the ball and and they're up they're up 10 nothing and and you're going well
i'm just saying what happens
down there yeah that'd be a seismic shift in all of college football if that decision was to be
made michigan already makes the move from very highly touted uh recruit with a high price tag
everybody knows the story of bryce underwood he now no longer the starter up there tommy car going
in brother of cj car i do believe of the entire family excited for the moment i think some people
are really pumped to see what this michigan offense can be with tommy versus bryce bryce gets a chance
to sit back now and watch the game and see what happens next
is that how the modern athlete works will he sit back watch learn or will he be looking for a new
home i guess that is tbd at this point but it seemed like bryce was supportive of his quarterback
room and tommy car as a whole which we love and appreciate the arch situation if he was to get
pulled in there i mean he has another year of eligibility right tone yeah he does he can he can
come back for sure if he wants to now there's a lot of questions what does what do you want to go
back to texas would texas want him back there's a lot of questions oh he's got a tone tone i think
this weekend this game against old miss could go a long way in determining that question harvey to
your point this is one of those games where you if you're texas like a home game might not necessarily
be the best thing here like to your point if they go three and out a couple of a row and you start
hearing boo birds this is one of those games where you might actually rather prefer to be on the road
but we will see and by the way by the way maybe the best player in college football colin simmons
he seems to get like a sack like
every time a team throws the ball against him he's not playing this week he's out so
trying to pressure not not having that that that ability to pressure trinidad chambliss
i mean it's gonna be loud out there it could get loud out there herbie and uh that's the state of
college football that we're in especially whenever there's big money on the line and big money being
paid to people every storyline gets a little bit more saucy hey we appreciate the hell out of you
good luck tonight
it's a big one on prime this is what you and i were born for yeah
all right we appreciate you
that's great
peter's friend of the program i'll tell you peter and i get along really well
peter peter and i get along like very very well i would say i think people would say that i think
peter would say that if peter could talk i don't i don't know how much peter peter can actually kind
of talk peter doesn't like the crowds as much anymore which i love i think i've talked about
that but peter's still like a damn good dog i'd be like he will come over love all you laid down
all the dog stuff you need somebody gets a little bit threatening he will kind of what what's that
about will he bow up on him does he get will he go yeah nice oh yeah that's why i think he's going to
i think he didn't like that cosmo character last week the cougar i think he was just kind of looking
at him sideways like any dog would so watching him and herbie's relationship has been a lot of
fun this year and watching peter kind of grow into who he's going to be as a dog has been fun as well
we love everybody that knows peter loves peter and i think everybody that peter knows peter loves
but there are some people that peter does not know that everybody thinks he knows because he's online
you know he's a character online so everybody thinks they know everything about peter peter's
still a dog you know he's a character online so everybody thinks they know everything about peter
you know so peter's still like i don't know you you know there's still a little bit of that and
those are my favorite moments because that's when peter's like an actual dog out there you know and
like right here i love this moment with him and cosmo going i'm gonna have to see some more from
this guy i'm gonna have to sniff around a little bit i immediately came in it was like peter if we
want to get so i'm on your side here buddy i'll help out how we have to because peter's a damn
good dog man like actually a really good dog and i like how he is uh matured into who he is
if that makes sense because at the beginning he was out there in front of the crowds he was on the
stage he was running around causing absolute chaos and then i think he made the decision he was like
i don't need to be doing this so he kind of goes to the back like i love him man i do i love peter
the dog can't wait to get out to utah excited for tonight football is the greatest day jay and
on in hour two we got chuck pagano joined us live from zoom he had a uh family uh event to go to
and then we'll have big perk join us as the nba is alive and well hey the nba is alive and well

happy nfl football kickoff thursday everybody that's right it is a thursday nfl kickoff thursday more
uh specific one of the greatest days to ever grace our lives is when another weekend of football festivities kicks off in a huge way how about tonight maybe the
biggest Thursday night game we've had in some time. The reigning, defending, undisputed AFC
champions of last season, the New England Patriots, who lost in a Super Bowl, take on the Chicago
Bears, who have had their eyes on the prize of being one of the greatest football teams of all
time since the offseason. Caleb Williams back from a hamstring injury. The boys are ready to roll
on Amazon Prime. Over under 50 and a half, you know, you start doing some math, that's 26-25
would be a cover. Is there going to be a lot of touchdowns with two great defenses? We shall see.
Kirk Herbst, she just joined us. He's excited about the matchups. He's pumped to kick this
thing off. It's not just me and Gumpy out here in LA. Back in the DraftKings Thunderdome, there's a
great cast of characters, including college football national champion, Super Bowl champion,
Ryder Cup winner, A.J. Hawko. Hawko, how do you feel about this evening's game? Do you know which
way you're leaning for your pick, or are you currently waffling waiting for Chuck Pagano to
join us here in a matter of moments? Well, yes, I do never.
I never like to fully commit to my pick until I hear what Chuck has to say, but I am leaning
hard in one direction right now. So I want to see if Chuck can change my mind.
yeah but you're a biased man you hate the Chicago Bears I mean I don't know if that's the case
honestly I mean I don't I guess I am a little bit biased towards them I was in Green Bay for nine
years but I still like respect and understand what they are and what they have and the great
quarterback and coach and the rest of their squad but uh yeah maybe I'm a tiny bit biased but we'll
see I don't know yeah it felt like you're a bit biased whenever I mentioned the thought of these
two teams playing each other in the Super Bowl a couple times over the next 15 or 20 years as you
said. So that is
what caught me off guard a little bit.
Automatically putting these teams in the Super Bowl.
Well, 15, 20 years
is a big window. I mean, that's a lot of
years to potentially make the Super Bowl if you're these
two squads. I thought you meant
every year for the next 15 to 20 is
how I took it. No!
Nobody's going to do that. Not even
Tom Brady was able to go
every single year to the Super Bowl. It was every
other year for like 25 years
or something like that. And then Patrick
Mahomes started doing it. It's very difficult
to make it to the Super Bowl. You've got to get very lucky.
You've got to remain very healthy. But if
these two teams are both of those things
and get both of those things, there's a chance we're
seeing them battle on the biggest stage.
The talk's at the table here at Boston Conner,
at Ty Schmidt. Con man, we chit-chatted about
the resume that the Patriots have. Chicago
Bears have a couple poop games
in their history for this
particular short season as well.
I mean, what happened against that Viking squad
in the downpour whenever
injuries happen? Ugly game.
There's been a couple others. Ugly game.
But whenever they're clicking, whenever they're
rolling, that offense is seemingly unstoppable.
We like the way Coach Vrabel is going to scheme
them up. What are your thoughts on slowing
down Caleb if he is, in fact,
all the way back after the hamstring
injury? Yeah, in my mind, you just kind of take
the plan that you had against Josh Allen and the
Bills and you say, hey, we're going to do the exact same
thing for Caleb Williams and the
Bears. You know, being able to play Josh
Allen twice a year, kind of the familiarity
of a quarterback who can do
exactly what we're seeing on the screen right now.
Extend plays, make ridiculous
throws and find the open guy.
It does feel like we can kind of use
that type of plan. And I think we
just try and get after him. You know,
Herbie kind of mentioned it. There are a lot
of chip on the shoulder type guys
on the New England Patriot defense. And then we have
Gonzo, who is top two,
top one corner in the entire
NFL. So I like the plan as
long as it's the same as what we did to Josh
Allen. Kind of get after him, keep him in the
pocket, make him a pocket passer, which
he is. But our secondary has
been very, very good, even while it's
been banged up. So I'm looking forward to the matchup.
I'm not sure about that over-under.
That feels very high for a couple
teams that are banged up on both
sides of the ball. But we'll see what happens.
I hope we get points, points, points.
Yeah, 15 and a half is a lot of points. I think
everybody has respect for Ben Johnson and everybody
has respect for the way Drake May has been
playing over the last three weeks. So maybe
it is a little bit of a scorer.
Maybe it will be electrifying. Maybe it will
be fireworks. One half of the
hammer. Done!
Cowboys AP tone.
What are you looking at for this evening?
What are the percentage of bets on who and where and when
and how and why? So it's actually 55%
Chicago Bears on the money line
and against the spread. So the public
is favoring the home team in
this one. You know, as
I mentioned earlier, a couple things
that Vrabel has been incredible as
a dog. He's one of the only two coaches
over 500 as a
dog straight up in his career.
And then dogs in primetime.
Ten straight if they have covered the spread in this one.
So that's something I'll be watching. Then
obviously the boost tonight
that we are going to boost to even
money plus 100 for both quarterbacks
to have 210 plus
passing yards. The Patriots and
Drake May, they average 244
yards passing a game. The Bears
average 230 yards passing a game.
Not all of those have been with Kaleeb
Williams in that situation. The Bears defense
actually, sorry, Caleb Williams, that's
on me. Bears defense, they're actually
31st in the league in yards per
pass. When teams decide to throw the ball, they're
31st against the pass. Patriots,
Patriots are in the middle. They were a little bit banged up
in the secondary, so I really like the boost tonight, too.
I'll be trading that one tonight,
boys. I'm out here in California.
All 50 states, huh? Yeah, coast
to coast, you know, all 50 states. If you're
of age and agree to be
responsible about it, we'd love for you to come join
us on DraftKings. Gumpy,
what's your new routine when you wake up in the morning?
You got to check the trade markets when you're on
the West Coast out here. That's how you start the day, you
know. Gumpy feels
like a super genius whenever he tells me
I'm checking the trade markets this morning.
He's a day trader. Got some
good trade markets out here in California,
and it's kind of gotten a little bit difficult
to get used to, you know,
because Gumpy and the word trades just don't normally
go hand in hand, but I think old buddy's been
trading pretty good over here. I think Gumpy has
hit a little bit of a trading heater,
if I'm not mistaking. Is that right?
Yeah, good start to the NBA. I mean,
Tyrese last night, just money in the
bank. The guy's the best. Good to have him back.
Yeah, it was great to have him back. He goes
for a double-double. Zubas also
allegedly a guy.
Luka gets into it with
a rookie out of
Michigan, a Dominican-American
player named. Yaxel Lindenborg.
Yeah, I didn't want to get it wrong. That's a great name.
Just like the boys back in the Thunderdome,
I like a little bit of the juice and the
sauce that he's bringing towards Luka,
and ESPN stats are telling us
that aside from a couple free throws,
Luka couldn't get it done against Axel,
a guy who was just talking trash to him
all game, and then afterwards, Axel
and now Golden State and LA are going to play each
other a lot. Rookie Axel comes
in as a national champion out of
Michigan, takes on Luka for the first
time, and he comes out after the game
and says, I'm disappointed.
I have a lot of respect for this guy. He's soft,
bro. I'm like, wow. A lot of people
say, don't talk trash to Luka. Don't poke
the bear. He'll wake up. Well, I guess he was doing
that last night, and then he did it after the game,
and if we got this next generation of dudes acting
like this in the NBA, I think we're in a really
good spot. On that note,
Lakers pounded Golden
State. I mean, just absolute ass
beating and a drumming last night. There
was a few of those con men across the board
as the Stars did some Star stuff
day two of the NBA season,
including Tyrese Halliburton
against the Pelicans con man. Yeah, and
it's kind of been the story of the new look
teams. You see the Lakers here. You
mentioned Walker Kessler. He came
over from the Jazz this offseason.
He dominated Luka, Austin
Reeves. They did their thing. Earlier
in the night, it was the new look
Timberwolves with LaMelo Ball
and Ann Edwards, and Ann Edwards just went,
crazy. He had 45-10,
and they kind of dismantled the
new look Miami Heat with Giannis
making his debut for Miami.
Giannis still had 35
points. Fantastic night for him, but
so far, it was definitely
interesting to see the two big men, him
and Bad Adebayo, kind of figure it
out down low. That was a great
game for Minnesota.
You mentioned the Pacers. They were down
a lot of the game to the Pelicans. They end up
coming back with Tyrese leading
the way. I think he had 23-12.
Fantastic night. It was also really
cool postgame. He was emotional
just kind of talking about how much
it meant to him to be back on the court.
I mean, here he is just kind of doing
his thing. Spicy P on the other
side, kind of being a decoy, if
you will, but still, Spicy P
with a clean 30 points
for him and eight rebounds. It was a wonderful
night on the hardwood.
I think Tyrese afterwards getting
emotional, just putting into perspective all
the hard work that he had. We had a chance to see him
throughout the entirety of his rehabilitation
process.
From game seven, tearing
his Achilles early in that after starting
out very hot, all the way through
the battle of last season, having to miss out
on a lot of games, miss out on a lot of the lads,
miss out on a year of his prime
basketball ability as he's recovering.
Then he gets hit with shingles, and then he has to
battle through that. Can't sweat a bit, and then
after the game, I assume Tyrese
did not expect this to overcome him,
but he had a bunch of emotions, talking
about the journey and all the people that
assisted him, and for him to get back
out there in real time, in real minutes, and put up
real numbers, we're incredibly happy for Tyrese.
Good for you, Hallie, baby!
- Hell yeah, Hallie!
- Good for you, Hallie. We actually have a graphic.
It's all about the game, and Hallie plays it!
Yes, he certainly does. 34 minutes, 23 points, 12 assists.
Came in dressed like Triple H whenever he came back
in 2001, 2002. One of the greatest comebacks in the
history of professional wrestling. He'd go on to
become the game, and it's all about the game,
and how you play, especially in this business, and
what the game would go on to become. He's an icon
and a Hall of Famer, and Tyrese was paying tribute
after the blown quad to Triple H and his blown Achilles.
He's coming back looking to do something more special
than he's ever done before. Can't wait to watch
this season for Hallie, although it's gonna be hard
to find on TV, AJ. It's gonna be hard to find.
- Has he worked his way up? I mean, I know the
Commish said he could work his way up to ESPN or maybe
one of those networks where we can actually find it.
Like, how long is it gonna take for him?
- Yeah, I don't, I mean, Tyrese didn't need that.
Type of motivation. He is a guy that is certainly able
to find it whenever he needs it, but him being told,
like, "Hey, maybe someday you'll get yourself into
ESPN game instead of DAZN." I like what he did here
with Derrick Queen. Derrick Queen out of Maryland.
We saw him a couple years ago. Tyrese was letting him
know that he thought he was a bit soft, and then the
entire Pacers organization said, "Excuse me, what do
you think's happening here? You think you're gonna be
able to fight him, or are you just gonna talk to him?
We just wanna let you know nobody's touching our guy."
We love that in Indiana.
And I like the way the Pacers looked.
Let's go back to that Lakers-Warriors game, 127-105.
J.J. Redick might have it figured out with his new team.
He also might have the right strategy.
Just have a guy be perfect.
Walker Kessler goes 12 for 12 for 26 points, nine rebounds.
This is the second time this guy's done this.
You know, he went 10 for 10 whenever he was with the Utah
Jazz a few years back. He's in the paint. He lives in there.
He might be a real threat for Luka, who can put the ball
wherever, whenever, however. Having a perfect night,
having a celebration at the end, and getting a chance to
say, "Yeah, that's what sports is supposed to be," that had to
be a great thing to start the season for Walker Kessler.
Just think, AJ, I don't know if you had the same thought immediately upon it happening.
It's like, who else has experienced sports perfection?
It's not easy.
You strive for perfection, you're never going to get there.
Having a perfect evening, a perfect season is something that there is so much luck.
I believe there's so many other things that kind of go into it.
So who else has got a chance to experience this magical thing?
We'll tell you, 1972 Miami Dolphins.
Only perfect season in the history of the NFL.
Every single year, whenever the final undefeated team loses, the 1972 Dolphins pop champagne.
The amount of dominance that you have to showcase in every single game,
the amount of people you have to keep healthy,
and the ability to adapt to be able to beat anybody for an entirety of a season,
let alone the mental mindset, stability, to continue to want to battle.
Every single week, unbelievable.
We'll never see it again.
Congrats to the 1972 Dolphins.
Hey, let's go to the World Series.
How about Don Larson?
Perfect game against the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 5.
He faced 27 batters, and guess what he did?
He retired them all.
Don Larson.
Yike!
Three.
That's an out right there.
In a World Series, 1956.
Let's go to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, you remember?
Do you remember who did what?
Oh, Michael Phelps.
He went for eight gold medals.
Guess what he got?
Eight gold medals.
I'm coming over here to Beijing with one job in mind.
I need to win eight gold medals.
Guess what he did when he hopped on that plane back for 27 hours from China?
He said, I have eight gold medals.
The perfection of Michael Phelps was something that captivated the entire country.
Watch his every single mannerism.
Let's go to college hoops now, shall we?
Let's go to 1992 Elite Eight.
Everybody remembers the Christian Leitner finish here.
Ah, ah, what a pass.
What a turnaround.
What a make.
On that entire game, people forget he was 10 for 10 from the field
and 10 for 10 at the free throw line.
Congratulations to Christian Leitner, who has a perfect game
that ends with a perfect finish that is seen for decades and decades and generations.
Let's stay in college hoops.
How about the 1975 Indiana Hoosiers team?
You remember them?
Yep.
Oh, yeah.
You remember them?
They went undefeated, 32-0.
Won the championship 86-68 over Michigan.
Bob Knight didn't throw any chairs this particular season.
All they did was beat everybody's ass.
Let's see.
I'm sick with the Indiana Hoosiers.
You know who else won perfect?
Last year's Indiana Hoosier football team.
Kurt Cignetti and the boys.
They lost the game.
Beat a bunch of top 10s and announced to the world that they were a real program.
It's not just the Indiana Hoosier football team.
It's also, how about Will Chamberlain in 1967 against the Baltimore Bullets.
He had 42 points, 30 rebounds, 10 assists, 18 for 18 from the field.
He did miss a couple free throws, though,
so we didn't want to necessarily put that particular black.
screen up here because he missed a couple free throws,
but he was 18 for 18 from the field.
And then last night, Walker Kessler, 12 for 12 from the field, 26 points,
nine rebounds, one assist.
Those are the people that have experienced sports perfection,
and I'm sure it was a nice, sound, happy sleep after the game for all of them.
Congratulations to them and to a guy who is not perfect at all this season.
No, no, no, no.
Almost, though.
Quite the opposite, actually.
No, he's almost perfectly shite.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's why he's one mishap away from perfectly shite season,
which I don't know if we've ever seen before,
but a man who's sitting at 1-5 is not able to join us because he's with his family right now.
He'll be back in the DraftKings Thunderdome next week.
A guy who is going to see it clearly now.
12-5 would not be a bad record, would it?
No.
No, no, no.
We still get there.
Ladies and gentlemen, our coach, a man who's been coaching football for 37 years,
18 in college, 19 in the NFL, Chuck Boyd.
How's it going?
Yay!
Holy!
Coach, we just went through a bunch of sports perfection there.
What are your takeaways from those type of performances?
Now, Walker Kessler, not the star of the Lakers.
He does a lot of layups.
But when you get in a groove and you get grinding, sometimes you can talk yourself out of it.
Then whenever you're done with it, you can say, you know what?
Not a bad job.
Your thoughts on the sports perfection and, more specifically, 1972 Dolphins.
Is that ever going to happen again in the NFL?
No, you think?
No, sir.
No.
Next to impossible with injuries, the length of the season.
How many games was that?
How long was that season?
Was that 12?
17-0 altogether.
Yeah, 17 total.
14 regular season games.
14 regular season, 17 total.
Yeah, so we're at 17.
Hard to stay healthy, Pat and the boys.
They're talking about going to 18.
The parity in the league.
When you, you know, you stink, you pick first.
You know, you stink.
And when you're great, you pick last.
Salary, all that stuff.
So, I don't see that happening.
Walker, Kessler, were those all layups?
Mm-hmm.
No, they were oops, too.
They were oops, too.
Contested shots.
Ah, he said.
Boom.
Right there.
I thought most of those were layups.
Yeah, perfection is hard to get to.
I like that Yaxel.
Chuck's not impressed.
Did you hear what Draymond said about Yaxel?
Uh-uh.
What did he say?
They're like, you got your ass whipped, right?
So, he should probably shut his mouth.
He stopped talking.
He's like, hell no.
You keep bringing that because we play him three more times.
You keep talking that voice.
I love that.
He did well against them, too.
So, I think the young buck is ready for the best in the West, which Luca might be.
The East obviously packed.
NBA going to have a good season.
They already have perfection on opening night for the Lakers and J.J. Redick.
Let's turn to tonight.
You haven't been back.
You haven't been perfect, Coach.
Right, A.J.?
You haven't been perfect.
Who is?
Who is?
One and five is tough.
I don't love how it's going, but it feels like this year's NFL season has been more unpredictable than ever.
Tonight, we got a good one.
We got two teams that I think both have opportunities and dreams to be Super Bowl champions within the near future.
How do you see tonight going, Chuck?
What are the things we need to look at as you try to get off the schneid and maybe get a win for the first time?
Yeah, this is going to be a good one.
It's going to be a great one for Thursday night.
I saw you talking to Herbie and stuff, and he laid out a lot of great points and great stats.
You look at the tail of the tape.
I mean, this is as evenly matched game as we're going to probably have going down the road.
You got two great quarterbacks playing at a high level.
Caleb comes back last week.
He goes 30 for 36, 300-plus yards, no turnovers, three touchdowns.
You look at Drake May.
His last.
Three ballgames, 10 touchdowns, one interception.
So, it looks like they've got that fixed.
Three games in a row for them.
It is a short week.
You got two really good defenses.
You know, Herbie mentioned Dennis Allen, what he's doing with that Chicago defense.
We know they led the NFL last year with takeaways.
They're still doing that.
They got 17 sacks.
They can get after the quarterback.
You know, these offensive line injuries for New England.
These guys came in.
They got two guys, maybe three guys.
They're going to be out.
Looking at the tape, I thought the backups came in and did a, you know, a decent job against the Jets.
And they pulled that one out.
They got that win.
They also have some injuries in the secondary, Pat, you know, for New England.
Carlton Davis, the third, is out, plus two backup corners.
So, they're going to be thin there as well.
So, two great quarterbacks, offenses that are prolific, can score two, you know, dominant defenses.
The thing about Chicago, you look at the things that are highlighted, right?
The time of possession is observed for Chicago.
36 minutes of time of possession.
They held the ball for 40 damn minutes against the Falcons last week.
You know, and you wonder why.
God, they really did a great job against B. John.
Well, they were down 28-7, 21-7.
So, they had to start slinging the ball around with Pennix and really couldn't, you know, afford to be handing the ball off anymore.
So.
A little bit misleading.
They only played 35 snaps earlier in the year, one game.
So, this run game for Chicago, the play-action pass, the way that, you know, Caleb is playing, short week.
You got injuries, you know, on that offensive line, you know, for New England.
Again, I just think it might be too much to overcome.
May's going to have to do a great job extending plays, running around, because you know they're going to come after them.
And I know Braves and Kerr will do a great job with their game.
They'll give Ben and the Chicago offense something they haven't seen, Pat, right?
That's a typical Bill Belichick blueprint, right?
Is come in and do something that's totally different, whether that's, you know, a jam front or a bare front, sink front, if you will.
You know, cover those three inside guys.
Whatever it's going to be, you know, have a spy maybe for Caleb running around.
So, they'll give them something different.
But this Chicago offense is going to be a great game.
Chicago offense, the way that they can run the ball, the way that they can control it, probably force a couple turnovers.
I like the Bears at home tonight, Pat.
Wow!
Congrats to the Bears!
I'm sure everybody's very pumped in Chicago that you have put maybe a curse or a hex on them at Bears minus three.
But I appreciate the way you laid it out.
I like that you're pointing out things that are very reasonable.
For instance, that offensive line for Drake May has been the question in games.
In which they've lost, can he get protection?
Does he get blown up?
I believe Campbell on the left side has played great this year.
year thus far. Is that right, Conman?
Oh yeah, and he also has battled through injury.
He had a little knee thing and then they thought
he was going to miss some time. Turns out
he's a tough son of a bitch. Didn't miss one game.
But right up the gut there
is problematic maybe for
Drake May. If he has to eat something in his lap
there, and we know Dennis Allen will bring it
third most in the entire NFL.
AJ, what I forgot about is that Chuck coached for the
Chicago Bears, didn't he? I forgot about that.
I didn't know that he was going to be
trying to get proved wrong
for the Chicago Bears as he
looked through the tape, and he loved what he saw
from Chicago. He's not the only one. AJ has
a question for you about tonight, Chuck. Yeah, Chuck,
when you're watching this game tonight, I guess if you're
the New England defense, what are you trying
to do to make Caleb uncomfortable? Are you trying
to get him to run around a little bit, test that hammy
maybe? I don't know. What would you do if you were
the coordinator for the Patriots?
Yeah, first and foremost,
AJ, they've got to do a great job of slowing down
the run game, right? And if they can
slow down Swift in that run game
and get him in third and long,
then I think they can get
after him. So, he
looked pretty healthy, you know, last
week moving around. It doesn't seem like
there's an issue there, but I
certainly, to your point, would test
that out. We've done some things in the past
where you can show a 5-6 up
look, rush, you know, make
it look like you're bringing five, drop one of those
guys out as a potential spy,
and then get a rush. We used
to call it a flush.
You know, flush him out away from his
throwing hand. We know this guy off-platform.
Whether he's going left, going right, can be a
problem.
Yeah, maybe a little of that, but
maybe just make him operate from the pocket.
I know his numbers from the pocket this year
are way better than they've ever been.
You look at the stats and
what he's doing from the pocket now,
it seems like he's being patient, taking what
the defense has given him.
But look for them to get after him a little bit.
Yeah, so
Menungai out. You talk about the
run game. Menungai is out.
Swift will be in. Roshon Johnson,
out of Texas, will be backup
running back or second running back. He scored
a touchdown last week. We know
Ben Johnson will remain committed
to the run game, but they're a little banged up
as well as we head in here on a Thursday.
That looks like a hold there right in front of
our face, but hey, if they don't
call it, it ain't a hold.
Chuck, other storylines
from around the NFL
that we are just now learning of.
There's reports coming out that they're going to be able
to change some stuff. Did you guys see
this update that just came out? The NFL
is considering the possibility of making its
instant replay review games
process available to be shown on
game broadcast, as
Albert Breer just reported. I think, yeah,
ACC's doing it right. Big Ten's
doing it. Yeah, it's awesome.
It started with the XFL, I think,
back in the day we saw them do it.
This is a huge step for the NFL if they were
to become transparent in this review system.
Is that not accurate, Chuck, as a guy that's worked with the
NFL officiating crew for the last few years?
Yeah, I love it.
You know, because we as head
coaches, Pat, we got to send
in like 10 questions like after the games
that they would answer.
You know, why this?
Why that? Why'd you call holding here? Was this
offensive passing or whatever, right?
So they'd answer those questions and we were
never really allowed, you know,
to talk about them at the podium.
You know, we kind of just had to swallow
the mic, swallow the whistle, if you will,
and not say anything
on some calls, but
I love the fact that, you know, the ACC,
you mentioned the Big Ten,
the transparency of all this,
because there's always going to be head scratchers,
right? We see
them week in and week out, and so
for the NFL to say, okay, look,
because they never really had, they have a
pool report at the end of these games,
right? They never really have anybody
stand up like the coaches have to,
the GMs,
everybody has to, you know,
be held accountable at the podium, and
so this gives, you know, America,
gives the fans, gives all the viewers an
opportunity to see these guys
in live action and see
exactly what they're looking at, because sometimes
the pictures you get on game day,
sometimes the pictures you get, you know,
in the stadium, on the big screen,
you know, the truck feeds,
depends if it's a 1 o'clock game
compared to a primetime game,
you have to understand that, because
there may not be, you know,
but 8, 9 cameras, you know, at a 1 o'clock
game, you know, a shite game,
and then you get a primetime game,
there might be 30 cameras, you know,
so there's a big difference when it comes to
replay, but I love that they're doing this.
Yeah, I love that they're doing it as well,
and I know the coaches and refs
relationship is one that is
caught in some spotlight over the last
few weeks. Tone has the last question for you here,
Coach Pagano. Yeah, Coach, three coaches
have been fined $250,000
for interactions with
the refs, and I believe those could be
taken away if I, the rumor was, if they
are, you know, if they behave themselves
the rest of the season, what are your thoughts on that situation?
I'll tell you what,
I got threatened within an inch
of my life, like, from
Tina, like, if you ever, you know,
come close to having an interaction
where it ends up costing us
money, pulling, you know, food
off our table,
you don't make enough to be, you know,
getting a $250,000
fine, so hopefully they
can appeal these, Tone,
you know, you just can't, you can't cross
the line with any of this stuff,
you know, you just can't, you just
can't do it, you gotta bite your
tongue. Where's the line there, Chuck? Where's the line?
How do they know? Do they, are they telling these coaches
what the line is?
A hundred, a hundred percent,
and we all know what it is. You can't
lay your hands on anybody, you can't touch
anybody, you can't, uh,
Can you cuss in their direction?
From a cursing standpoint, you
can't throw the challenge flag
at them, you can't MF them, you know,
you, under your breath, you can have
those, those deals, but it goes
both ways, you know, they just suspended
two refs, right? They both missed a
game, you know, and, uh,
those guys are back on the field,
so they're gonna, they're not gonna, you know, just suspend
refs, they're gonna, they're gonna get after coaches
too, so you just gotta know,
you know, when to say when, and
not cross that line, and not
make it personal, you know, and
with the expectations are
what they are, and all these lively
jobs are on the line, families
are on the line, all that kind
of stuff, it's, it's really hard
certainly at times when, when you see
a foul that's called and it shouldn't have been
called or whatever.
Yeah, the refs are a massive piece of a lot of people's
legacies, a lot of, uh, decisions that
are made at a multi, multi, multi
billion dollar business. We'd like
them to be great, that's why we're always pulling for them.
We're happy they got the new deal done, and
I think this is the NFL who also told the
refs, right, we got a ref that got a two game
suspension, a one game suspension, then
there was big time fines for the celebrations,
now there's potential fines
that are in holding for how you're interacting
with the refs. Feels like this is the NFL
saying, hey, listen, we're all in this together,
okay, but also these are some things
that we're not doing anymore, so
we're gonna fine your ass, you're gonna feel it,
then we'll take it back, we'll work with you, but we can't
be having this anymore. Can't have ridiculous
celebrations, we can't be treating refs like
shit, refs, you can't be acting out of
the ordinary either. It feels like early in the NFL
season here, the NFL's trying
to let people know how it's gonna be. Now,
you talk about lives and jobs
being on the line, whoa.
We have our first big firing, and
Indianapolis resident, Boston Connor
has a question for you, Chuck Bogano.
Yeah, Charlie, unfortunately, Chris Ballard
has been let go as the GM of the
Indianapolis Colts, and now Big Ed
Dodds is stepping in to be
kind of interim GM
for the Colts. How does that work
as far as Dodds now going forward? Is he
empowered to kind of get this
wholesale, get everybody out of here,
let's get some picks in return, start
this rebuild thing? How does that
entire aspect work? And then for the
team itself, what is kind of
the ripple effects when a GM
gets fired within the building? Is it
just kind of like, okay, we blew it,
now we're screwed, or is
it can actually bunker
mentality, hey, let's bring this thing
together, try and save the season for
the Colts?
Yeah, to the second part of that
question, BC, some of these, sometimes
these can galvanize
a team and bring a team
together, if you will.
Is there enough pieces? We're
gonna find out to see if there's enough pieces,
enough healthy pieces to
get on the field and go up to Minnesota
and then Jacksonville in two weeks, but
it can galvanize them for sure, and I
loved what, you know, Shane said.
You know, this doesn't just fall on
Chris. You know, Chris ran
that thing for ten years.
We hate to see firings happen,
you know, in the National Football
League, especially this early in the season.
We all understand what we signed
up for, but Shane called out
the guys, and they talked about, hey,
this falls on coaching, this falls on
me, it falls on the assistants, it falls
on the players. You know, we got a coach
better, we got to play better, and these guys
got to show up
week in and week out, and
they got to be available, you know,
for their team, and
they got to go play, and they got to
go, you know, compete, and
you know, we'll see what happens.
Again, hate to
see anybody let go, but I think the
writing was on the wall. I think
you lose to an 0-5 Tennessee team
at home, up 13
at half. I think with
the fans, the way that it was in the loud
house, you guys were there. I think
they almost certainly had to do something
just to give the fans some
hope. Like, okay, look, we're going to
go, you know, in a different direction here.
As far as Ed goes,
BC, you know, he's
been with Bauer the whole time. He's the
assistant GM. He's just going to
keep the wheels turning,
if you will. All the
scouts are right now, they're going to college
campuses, they're evaluating the talent,
they're getting the board, they're
doing all that kind of stuff with
with, you know, 2027 draft.
you know names and prospects and getting all that so he's just gonna head that up
as far as like who's trading away the pieces on the team it ain't ed's not gonna that'll that'll
go through carly you know who's you know hands on obviously there kaylin's you know does her deal
and casey but it'll go through carly i'm i'm sure there's other people in that organization and
and we've heard like like i wasn't shocked to hear like okay i'm gonna reach out to payton manning
or bill polian like i'm gonna go to tony dunn i'm gonna go to some people that i know that my dad
knew that i grew up around that i respect their opinion i respect them as as coaches and their
football minds and their football iq so i'm gonna go to those people and say okay look this gives an
opportunity start putting together a list of potential gms that we're gonna go look look at
you know we're gonna look at these teams that are that are deciding the trades coach the coach that
we the trade deadline has to be figured out that is a gigantic gigantic opportunity or decision
that's right around the corner here coach i i know the gm lists people will be putting together
lists for her to interview for general manager that's a role that you have to fill the trade
deadline is huge we don't have picks we don't have shit we have we're in a bad we're in a bad
spot right now bro i mean it is not a good spot for the future so pat i mean november 10th i think
is the day right the trade deadline
i think it's november 10th you know so yeah they'll say okay look we got d buck we got jt we got
uh you know quentin nelson we we've got some we've got some potential you know guys that
some people that are on a heater on a run a super bowl run that may want to you know reach out like
okay so you field some calls you take some calls you throw some things out there put some lines in
the water see if anybody bites but you know that'll they'll listen to you and they'll listen to you
and his and his staff the rest of the scouts and people that are in the building there
um they'll listen to them carly you'll you know listen to those things and then they'll make a
decision based on two things what's best for this organization moving forward and what gives us
the best chance to win moving forward so you know we better stack some wins you know i know shane
knows that that coaching staff know that those players know it because if if they don't it's
going to be a total reset
the best coach just like a reset you have tonight on the bears minus three we'll see you next week
back in the draft kings thunderdome and the return of what the chuck
hey jay we're about to get into a um a basketball discussion with a legend and a friend of the
program here in a matter of moments because the nba is off to a hot start i mean hot start out
there all the storylines are
immense and nba is certainly worthy of conversation but the reason why i am currently in los angeles
um is because this evening i'm experiencing something for the first time in my entire life
i'll be a part of a movie premiere tonight aj sick that's gonna be awesome is that where is it again
the premiere uh i believe it ty you know the name it's the china theater yeah chinese chinese
theater yeah where all the gigantic films over the years have been yeah it's got like the a lot
of times like they'll put their handprints in like the wet cement in front of it and like yeah that
that's gonna be that'll be really sweet yeah it's i guess huge screen i guess it's 900 some people
they do there's gonna be a red carpet which i don't normally do i uh we have some pretty notorious
stories of us avoiding red carpets and getting into uh horrendous situations but tonight i guess
i'm gonna be out there can't wait i'm sure that's gonna go just fine figuring out what the hell i
was gonna wear to this thing was a experience and a journey in of itself yesterday got a chance to
get sniped by aq shipley as i was just trying to check out at norsham rack the entire world ended
up seeing this uh that was certainly a time i had a bunch of clothes in my right hand i had a bunch
of clothes in my right hand because i bought sport coat pants boots you name it from norsham
rack dress shirt i needed it all i was not prepared well enough and then had coffee and left hand you
know this week spent a little bit of a grind let's keep the caffeine input happening and i'm standing
there there's nothing for me i can't put anything down so i have no i'm amish in that moment i got
people in front of me speaking a different language people behind me speaking a different
language we were there for i mean i was in line aq's being a little dramatic here but it was at
least 20 i mean it was at least 25 minutes and they were mad that i signed up for this because
we had um somebody else with us i was checking out a little bit earlier and you know the way
norsham rack lines are they kind of go back and forth there was a potential in a non-scumbag way
i could have passed my stuff to parker who was going to buy i could
have done that okay parker asked me if i wanted it aq and d butts obviously said hey let's go let's
do that i had to go get one more thing though and i said i don't want to give it then go back and
go that's a bad look i'll just wait in line it won't be a big deal be fast snores from racks
d butt and aq immediately go idiot you're an absolute idiot you should give him your stuff
and then go back and get it and then come back so that whole chirping of me waiting in that line
started before i even got into that
25-minute line so i go back class of the classic norsham rack i go back and grab it guess what has
happened since i get back bigger line yes hall everybody in the store checked out at the same
time so now um three snake links back from where parker was so this was a follow-up from 25 minutes
beforehand where i in everybody's eyes including mine made a horrendous decision to not just kind
of let parker do the checking out but i said no no i don't want to do that it just won't be
that big of a deal they're paid to check people i'll be quick it was not you know they wave the
flag whenever they say we're available here yeah i saw in god bless all of them that are having to
deal with everybody checking out a couple of them will get done with a checkout aj and they take a
minute you know they need to take a beat before the next customer comes up arbitrarily doing a
couple of these couple of these it's a picture i don't think it's just california that's retail
baby yeah i think it's retail as a whole it's there's some stickers here that need to move from
this side of the day to every day this side and we're looking around somebody's coming to help
all good to see you good to see you and then all right pissed off next one please puts it down and
then that person comes in they got a hundred questions you want to do you want a uh nordstrom
rank credit card would you like to sign up for that of course i'd love to do that so i just it
was a whole thing where i got wrong from the beginning but it was nice to be out there it's
nice to be out there so many different languages happening around me i was trying to decipher them
and pick them up but i
couldn't use my phone to google it because my hands were kind of stuck so i got ready i'm excited
tonight should be something um that will be remembered in my lifetime uh as a gigantic
moment the mosquito bowl is a movie that is about uh four badass college football stars
who signed up for the marines during world war ii and uh it documents them from their lives
and the football in college into paris island which where i am a drill instructor
lead drill instructor that they meet and then into actual war in the pacific theater and
peterberg did the film netflix is the uh streaming company but they wanted it to go into theaters
because of how much they love the movie and how the screenings have gone i can't believe i'm a part
of it i can't believe i'm in it that's nicholas gout seeing there he was thor i think he's on his
way up scar guards in this ray nicholson's in this tom francis is in this the amount of talent
from just the thespian world
um and i think it's a great movie and i think it's a great movie and i think it's a great movie
of the actors is absurd peterberg is gonna go down as maybe greatest war movie maker of all
time which this certainly is as it celebrates football and the greatest generation it's um
i think it's a heavy movie i think it's a very serious obviously story that is going to remind
a lot of people about america maybe not being just always the worst place on earth you know
like we have done a lot of good for the world as well and these men have and a little surprise boys
uh in the nfl studios right now he's a guy who was a di at paris island for eight years i believe
three years over in san diego 20 plus years in the marines boys i wish you were here to be able to
experience first sergeant garland
serge serge good to see you dude making a premiere yeah uh garland is in the hollywood
i'm gonna go ahead and back this up so we get you in here
happy the boys got a chance to compliment you uh love you guys too yeah we love you first sergeant
i'm telling you whenever uh whenever the boys uh had a lack of you in their lives it was evident
okay and uh we have missed you
the hell out of you happy you're enjoying your retirement happy you're enjoying your life and
happy you're getting a chance to watch tonight uh something you were a massive piece of for those
that don't know we went to high school together obviously you wouldn't know that he was a few years
older than me joined the marines family i do believe of marines uh i believe you don't you
no no no lineage no lineage but why did you choose the marines in our high school i'm gonna be honest
uh it was something to do other than go to college i'm gonna be honest and that was it it sounds terrible
but uh no for real there's a an individual that went to plum a couple years older than
than me, and he came back from boot camp just in his uniform, kind of made me, you know, want to
be a Marine, the challenge, so. How many years did you end up? 22. Okay, and I got the numbers right
for how long you were a DI at Parris Island? So, I was a company first sergeant at Parris Island
for two and a half years. I trained officers at OCS in Brownfield, Quantico, Virginia for three
years, and then I was a drone instructor for three and a half years at San Diego. Unbelievable
stuff. So, whenever this gets mentioned and brought up to me that I could potentially be in a movie
and I'm going to be a DI for the Marines, you're, I'm trying to play, like, the baddest dude on
earth. That is what a DI is. You know that. You were one. No sleeping, attention to detail,
accountability, expectation of you are going to have to have the warrior spirit in you over the
next 11 weeks, 13 weeks. We got to make this happen.
The Marines mantra is first to fight. So, everybody that shows up is expected to go to war
at some point, which is why I have so much respect for the Corps and for everything that you have
done, but playing a DI was something I was scared to death to do, and you assisted me the entire
time, and I hope that your fellow Marines understand that I don't think I'm anywhere
near as badass as you, but I did try to represent my absolute best, so thank you for everything.
Of course, no. I think it was a great experience. Kudos to you, I'll just say that,
for taking on this tremendous, you know, job of kind of representing the Marine Corps. Kudos to
you. You know, it's, it's a hard position to play. It's kind of the iconic symbol of discipline to
the Marine Corps, and that's the first individual you come in, you see the pearly gates of Parris
Island. They're very beautiful, very comfortable area that you get to, and then you meet this
individual that is, you know, kind of superhuman. So, it's, it's a hard position to kind of learn
and see, and I'm just grateful to be a part of it.
Yeah, it is a very hard position to try to be, and to learn, and to see, and to learn
this. You gotta wake up at 3 a.m. We're there at Parris Island waking up at 3 a.m. The energy
and juice is already at a 14 out of 10. It is, it's a special thing that you did, and
many others have done in the past, to be a drill instructor to set the culture of what
the Marines are as a whole, and I don't, he's in the movie.
That's right. He's in the trailer.
He is actually in the movie, not only in the trailer, but I think he has a good portion
of the Parris Island.
Parris Island part has actual First Sergeant Patrick Gartland in it, so I'm excited to
watch you on the big screen tonight, brother. You're a big movie star.
I don't know about that. I'm excited to see you. I'm excited to see the movie.
Likewise.
Okay, look at us. We went to Australia for 11 days, 12 days. We were down there filming
this entire thing. Have been doing a lot of reminiscing on what the trip was and what
it isn't. Master Sergeant was down there as well. What's his name?
Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major. What's his name, though? What was his name?
Sergeant Major.
Yeah, but what was his name?
You're talking about a Parris Island?
Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major.
Yeah, no, this was down in Australia. There's a guy that does movies. He's like a-
I'm blanking right now.
Yeah, me too.
Because his name is just Sergeant Major to me.
And in all the movies, I think this guy. So there is a Sergeant Major from the Marine
Corps who is tasked with making shorts legit on movie sets. He's been around, I don't know
how many movies, basically every movie.
Not R.E. Irving, right?
No, no. He was a drone shark.
Yeah.
It's Heartbreak Ridge, so 1988, if anybody knows that.
Is it James E. Dever?
Yes.
Yes. There it is.
Jim Devers.
Yeah, Jim Dever, dog. Absolute dog. He was out there. So watching him put the actors
through a miniature quick boot camp there again, and then also for the weeks leading
up to the movie, I think there was a lot of respect in trying to represent the Corps,
and I hope tonight you see that and feel that.
I will, yeah. I think just being a part of it and seeing the sacrifice there's individuals
had during that time. I mean, just the storyline, it's a true story. They could have went a totally
different direction, but they chose another life, and that's kind of like a huge aspect
of the Marine Corps that you get from that. So I'm excited to see it.
Me too. I appreciate the hell out of you. Good to see you.
Thank you.
Hey, he's a movie star now.
Garland. Happy birthday, Garland. It was Garland's birthday the other day, too.
Yeah, it was. Happy birthday, Sarge. I appreciate it. Thank you guys. Love you boys. Really appreciate
it.
Bone needs your help.
That's Pat, of course.
Yeah, we love you. Bone has fallen off a bit.
Yeah, Bone. I love you, Bone. Just keep it up. I love you, Bone.
We're trying.
Keep what up?
I don't know. Just something. We've got to go forward progress. Forward progress. Just
whatever that is. I don't know. We'll figure it out.
Yeah, I doubt it, buddy. You're the best. First Sergeant, we appreciate you, brother.
Ladies and gentlemen, it's movie star First Sergeant Garland.
Yeah!
I love you, Garland!
Pat, are you prepared? For what, bro?
You're going to have to stand and receive a 20-minute ovation tonight. Have you?
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. That ain't happening. Not for me. Not for me.
Well, you're going to be a part of it, though.
No, it might be for First Sergeant Garland. It might be for Ray and Nicholas and Tom and
Scargard and Peter Berg and the phenomenal crew. You should have seen the camera operators
for this movie, the amount of running. And then the scenes that they get for the war
is like. So much scunion.
Oh.
Yeah, on deck.
I mean, I don't know how much dynamite they went through, but I don't know what the
budget was for dynamite and stuff and bombs, but it is going to pay off, I do believe.
All right, AJ, we got a big guest joining us here in a matter of moments as I send it
to you in Indianapolis as this big man gets prepared. That's a little bit of a tease for
another friend of the program about to join us.
Yes, it is. And, Tony, I actually wanted to come to you. So, Giannis is on the "Miami
Heat" now, correct?
Yeah.
Yeah, so Giannis got blown out yesterday, did he not?
Yes, he did.
Did he not? By the Timberwolves, who shot lights out. I know Ant-Man, he was, what,
nine of 17, I believe, from the three-point line.
All those things, yeah.
I think there's some questionable step-backs where you can step back and take five to nine
steps and drink three still.
That was absurd.
That's the NBA.
They don't call it every single time.
I mean, just absurd.
So it's fun to watch, but I just want to know what Giannis is going to be like moving
forward, and I think Pat might be ready with our large and in-charge guest. Let's see
if they're good over there.
All right.
We'll be right back.

Oh, there we go.
Ladies and gentlemen, big Perk is here.
Yeah, Perk.
Put him away.
Hey, Perk, these studios are outrageous.
It's crazy.
It's a beautiful place.
You know the best thing about it is that I walked into the locker room yesterday and
my suit, tie, and the whole setup was already pressed and laid out.
I was like, "Oh, shit."
Yeah, you guys are living the dream out here.
This is the life.
This is the life.
The studios are gigantic.
I think everything's state of the art, and every bathroom has a bidet, which I know has
been talked about.
The seat warmer.
Don't love that.
Don't love that.
It's not from another human, Ty.
What?
It's electric.
It's not from another human sitting on it.
That's not why it's warm.
Like I said, I don't need my fucking butt cheeks to be on fire when I'm taking a shit.
All right.
I mean, Ty, you always want to keep a cool booty.
I get that.
Thank you, Perk.
Okay.
Let's talk about cool booty or hot ass cheeks.
Can you tell me about the start of the NBA season?
A couple of blowouts yesterday.
Tyrese Halliburton gets a close win.
All the way back to opening day, there seems to be some teams that are hot immediately
and some that are cold.
How should we judge these first couple games, you think?
Well, let me say this.
Shout out to Adam Silver.
This is about to be one of the best NBA seasons that we've seen in the last 10 years.
Okay.
We literally have 20 to 25 teams that actually feel like they can win the NBA championship.
The talent is spreading and it's equal now.
And when you think about who is going to be the next champ, who is going to come out victorious,
who's going to be hosting up the trophy at the end of this season, to be honest, I don't
know.
But I will tell you this, Anthony Edwards is my pick to win the MVP.
I will tell you this, Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball are the best backcourt in the NBA, period.
Because now Anthony Edwards is able to slide to his natural position.
He doesn't have to worry about facilitating anymore.
And now all of a sudden, he's going to continue to get easier shots and easier looks.
You know who was top five in the league last year in three pointers made?
Who?
Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball.
Really?
Yeah.
So tell me how you're going to stop that.
And then all of a sudden you look at the East and I'm like, Tyrese Halliburton, I had to
apologize to him.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I did.
I apologize to him.
One thing about me, if I'm wrong, I'm going to tell you, now, 85% of the time I'm going
right yeah but that 15 when i'm wrong i'm gonna admit it hey man listen right now the swag and the
energy along with his play he's moving faster but i somewhat expected this because when you're away
from the game that you love so much you have time to sit there you have those moments when you're
depressed you have those moments when you're sitting on the side you can't do what you've
been doing your entire life and you could tell he missed the game of basketball yeah he got
emotional afterwards about all the work that led to him coming back this year and i appreciate you
apologizing to him they had him on the zone they had him on does no offense to doesn't they had
him on the zone for his opening night comeback after getting injured in game seven of the finals
a year ago he's using that as motivation obviously the entire indiana pacers organization are putting
chips on their shoulder carlisle's ready to go on a run let's talk about another massive move
that took place uh yannis and the heat they're dead okay let's hope they figure that out
lebron and the sixers though are they going to be unstoppable because it feels like we got heel
braun back as he's talking shit to old white men about being from ohio and maybe beating that ass
wet ass at that that's a belt to wet ass is what he's about to put on people and this is what you
this is what you have to realize about braun the one thing i've been knowing him for the i've been
knowing braun for 25 years and you could always tell how braun is going to play when you look at
his body language and his engagement and the fact that he was showing passion talking noise they
already got their handshakes he's out there playing with with a different type of feel and
emotions and he was actually playing the center position while joe ellen b was on the floor think
about that for a second he was the one that was guarding carl anthony towns and so when you think
about the most complete basketball players who ever played a game of basketball even at the age
of 42 putting his all into these young fellas getting he's going to get the best out of joe
ellen b he's going to get the best out of tyrese maxey he's going to get the best out of vj edge
cone on top of that braun feels slightly disrespected the way that things ended with the los angeles
lakers yeah they were asked for a while and they made a decision to move with luca is seemingly
the decision they made business-wise
he went crazy as well last night not against yaxal but against everybody else lucas team now
over here in los angeles what perfect weather by the way yeah oh my god it's gorgeous i think
did you get the hotel stuff situated yesterday no power to no power guess what i did while
everybody was trying to search and do all this i went straight to the jamaica bay inn and i must
say it was beautiful
yeah it was it was beautiful you can never judge a book by its cover because guess what it was
outstanding the room service was great the beds was comfortable i had a like i had a view of the
marina hey it was just yeah i read the review it was the bomb jamaica it was called the jamaica
bay inn a couple rude boys in there we uh we were searching as well we were we were looking for a
place we had no idea in the year twenty twenty six that could happen to a hotel yeah in america yeah
pretty prominent hotel twenty four hours no power no power you learn quickly about how little power
you have whenever you're at a place that has no power and they're telling you we got no idea we
got no idea uh can we have water i mean we're running out of water but yeah it'd be very cold
uh okay there's obviously no wi-fi there's no power to charge anything and the light situation
in some of the rooms going to be difficult it is pitch black and renovated it's going to be
so it's renovation we're doing construction so it's a lot going on but we want you to enjoy
your state and we are lucky to be there lucky to be doing this for a living uh you talked about
lebron playing center we have about a minute and a half before the hard out but there's already a
lot of questions about the tallest french center that we've seen in some time tone has a question
for you big perk yeah perk and this kind of goes back to last year in some of those playoff games
and the first game people were saying you know wemby needs to stop acting like he's six three
and act like he's seven six um how do you
feel about that and what are your thoughts on wemby after just you know one game maybe just
his game overall well todd good to see you always a pleasure um with with wimby i always been saying
that he needs to embrace being a big man first with guard skills last year wimby finished 19th
in the league in points in the paint that should never happen he should always finish top three
or number two and only
reason i don't put him number one is because yannis is still living but outside of that he should
always live in the paint it should always be a focal point did you watch uh walker kessler last
night it's simple i'm going to finish around the basket i'm going to have a thousand ducks i'm going
to make the game easy now in wimby's defense after watching game one the problem that i have
is that they have no one
to settle down the offense to put him in position to be successful i saw a lot of selfish basketball
from dearon fox from dylan harper from stefan castle they had the agenda of i'm going to get
mine instead he's saying i have a generational talent let's slow down let's get your big ass
on the block let me hit you down there you go to work come up here set this screen we'll go
throw it up because you finished second in the league last year and lobs at the
basket rondo used to set that up perfect for kg all right paul ray y'all got enough shots come here
big fella we're going to you they don't have that and that's a problem so one of those guys got to
step up miss johnson got to have a coming to jesus meeting and highlight that he is our number one
focus we thought that happened after the first team that was around wimby because remember there
was a bunch of ogs around wimby whenever he was trapped chris paul chris paul but others as well
right and he wasn't getting the ball and it's
like they they felt as if he had to earn his way earn his keep he's a young guy still got to learn
then they kind of switch out that roster put in a younger roster we thought they were doing that to
empower wimby you're saying that needs to happen a little bit more we need a little because you
know it's a gift and a curse when a team that young have success so early going to the nba
finals because well guess what happened when you're walking around in the summertime everyone
is telling you that hey you're the reason you're a key part you need a bigger role that's why they
having this whole thing of should we start three guards and we can't bring dylan off the bench
because we drafted him with the number two pick uh should we bring dearon fox i don't know because
we're paying him a ton of money like no like all these things are individual agendas and so
the thing is what got them to the finals last year was the word sacrifice was going to get
them back to the finals and over the hump is for them to continue to sacrifice and lose
themselves in the team if they don't understand that as tough as the western conference is
the ass gonna get sent home yeah maybe too much success maybe they're drunk off their own personal
agendas that's what he's seeing here early speaking of personal agendas uh shom sharonian
said our personal agenda to maybe get steph curry to the indiana pacers is never going to happen
said it should did you see steph face well so aj actually has a question about that as uh shom
said yesterday steph's going to be a warrior for the rest of his life go ahead aj
yeah big perk what should i expect when i watch the warriors this year like what would you predict
their record is this season they'll be in the play-in tournament hopefully okay but i for the
first time i felt bad watching steph last night and every time they kept hitting him with the
camera like showing them on the bench and showing how depressed he looked like it's only so much he
could do individually and by the way where the hell is draymond green i understand like he's a
defensive presence but at this point steph needs you like old people need soft shoes he needs you
to come out here and do something offensively be some type of offensive threat christoph
that's unfortunate i hope he gets well but he's not returning don't know when jimmy bull is
returning you cannot afford to continue to waste steph curry greatness and i said this before and
always found a way to make sure that steph curry was contending for a championship
it's time for mike dunleavy jr to do his damn job well we thought steph curry was going to be on the
move or maybe lebron was going to join steph curry now we're hearing steph's going to be a
warrior forever and if they look like they look last night for a while i don't like that we're
not going to see steph in prime time through the rest of this particular season that's one game in
we're saying that that's the best i love that we do that i love that that is how we all do it
kind of react let's stay in the west so let's talk about jj reddick now leading a very different team
go ahead con man yeah perk luca and walker kessler kind of talked about how well he put already but
what did you see from this new look lakers that makes you think they'll be in it in the long haul
it feels like luca once again being the ball dominant guard and just kind of taking over games
is back in the nba which is great for everybody uh talking a bunch of junk to yaxel lindenborg
also awesome what are you expecting
out of the lakers this season park well well connor you talking to me again because what i
I saw you in the hallway.
You was all in your fillers about what I said.
I'm not talking to you about the Celtics.
I'm not talking to you about the Celtics, Burt, because you're fucking wrong.
That's why I didn't ask you about the fucking Celtics,
because you don't know your ass from the hole in the ground when it comes to the Celtics.
That's why I asked you about the fucking Lakers.
You know what?
You're going to be fucking disappointed again tomorrow when the Chicago Bears kick your ass tonight.
Oh, fuck you.
Too far.
Fuck you.
I take my country back.
You son of a bitch.
So, look, but listen, the Lakers, they're going to be an offensive problem.
Luka is one of the most gifted offensive players that we've ever seen.
Like, they're going to score points.
J.J. Redick has proven to be one of the brilliant minds offensively.
I can't overreact to that game last night because of who they were playing.
I need to see them against the best of the best.
They're going to make the playoffs.
I believe it's going to be in the play-in tournament.
But we all know they have certain fan bases that are spoiled.
Certain fan bases that have entitlement because they've earned their right to have entitlement.
And that's organizations like the Celtics and the Lakers where it's championships or busts.
And so they're going to have a good run.
They're going to be an early-round exit.
I get all that.
And it's going to be through the play-in tournament.
But at some point, Luka is going to have to deliver a championship to L.A.
But let's stay in the moment.
Offensively, they're going to be one of the best offensive teams in the league.
One game, we're doing all this.
Can't wait to follow the rest of the season.
Thank you for stopping by.
I might be moving over here, Perk.
Just get a room for me so I don't have to stay in the hotel.
Like, if you move here, just have a guest house for me so I don't have to stay in the hotel every week I come out here.
Well, I heard the Jamaica Bay.
The Jamaica Bay Inn.
Shout out.
The Jamaica Bay Inn.
You looked out front.
Jamaica Bay Inn.
We didn't see any rooms there because, obviously, with the hotel we were at, there was a lot of people there.
No.
And everybody was thinking the same thing.
We were thinking about getting to other hotels.
So every other hotel within the area got sold out quick.
Quick.
I didn't get into the Jamaica Bay Inn there.
I got it.
When you saw me, I was trying to get my key fixed because I want—
They had one elevator good with generator, had one elevator running up and down.
Kind of sketchy.
Kind of sketchy getting into a hotel elevator with no power.
Very.
But they told us it was good.
It was sketchy.
I go all the way up to the room.
Stop at every—because there's only one elevator going, and everybody wants to be there.
So, obviously, we're stopping.
Get all the way up to the room.
Go all the way in there.
Car doesn't work.
Somebody's working on the floor.
I go, hey, can you guys get into the rooms?
Yeah, we can, but not with you.
So I go all the way fucking back down.
I go all the way.
That's when you saw me.
It was a 45-minute trip for me walking in every floor on the way up.
When I saw you, you looked defeated.
I was.
Pat, what's up, man?
You just—
You looked defeated.
I was just like—
I was just sitting there.
I had all my bags from Nordstrom Rack.
I had the whole thing.
It was a lot of fun.
It was a lot of patience yesterday, which is what we need in our lives.
And I remain patient on all these NBA teams, but my feeling right now, Pacers are winning it all.
So you need to start telling people on that NBA Today crew.
You need to start telling everybody the Pacers are on their way.
And you need to tell Adam Silver, Tyrese has already earned his way into an ESPN game.
I don't know if you heard that comment.
Oh.
Yeah.
You need to apologize.
Everybody needs to apologize.
Well, I mean, listen.
Me and Adam Silver, we like pissed friends, so I'm going to stay up out of that one.
Smart guy.
See you, dude.
All right.
Hey, Conor, fix your body language, man.
Y'all going to get your ass kicked tonight.
Oh, you know shit.
Stick to basketball, Perky, motherfucker.
I don't know if you heard that.
He called you a motherfucker there, Perky.
All right.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to debut something that we've been debuting every single week this season.
It's not easy.
It's not easy to work your way into being the best in the league.
It's seemingly not easy to work your way into being the worst in the league as well.
It is time to debut this week's shite division.
Let's go to last week, shall we?
Here's what last week's shite division looked like, because this is a very important part of the tale.
Chuck Pagano was in there.
He won one and five.
He's still going to remain in there if he loses yet again.
Tennessee Titans, shiteyest team in the league.
That's why they're at the top.
This is the most shitey.
This is last week.
Then the Chargers, then the Dolphins, then the entire NFC East.
At that time, we didn't even know.
We didn't even know that they'd go on to be historically terrible.
So there is maybe some huge change.
Maybe not.
Let's go to this week's shite division.
At the top of this week's shite division, the shiteyest of them all.
We made a rule a couple weeks ago that if you lose to the shiteyest team
and you happen to look like shite, then you become ipso facto the king of the shite.
I don't like this, AJ.
The shiteyest team in the NFL right now is?
Oh, no.
If you get someone fired, too, you probably have to go in there as well.
A couple weeks stay.
Minimum, if you get someone fired.
I'll tell you, I don't like it.
I don't like it.
We had seen the shite division earlier this year, and I thought I'd check the box.
I showcased that I'm not a super homer.
I'd put the Colts in there.
But with all the money we had spent, I don't like it.
I don't like it.
I don't like the money we had spent and all the talent we have in our roster.
I thought there's no way we end up in the shite division.
Then Connor last week starts, you know, kind of piping off.
He's the lock of the century.
Tennessee Titans are a team that suck with no hope.
There's some teams that suck that have hope.
And then you, AJ, first time in a long time, you came in and said,
I agree with that.
Give me Colts minus 15.
You guys did this on purpose?
No.
You are the ones that wanted Chris Ballard to get fired on a fucking Monday
or whatever it was.
You guys are the reason, because of everything you were saying last week.
So I hope you're happy, AJ, that the Indianapolis Colts are now officially
the shittiest team in the league.
And the Tennessee Titans worked themselves out of the shite division.
I hope you're happy, AJ.
I'm not happy.
I'm not happy at all.
Believe me, I was trying to – I thought I was picking a winner.
I thought it was a get back on track kind of game for the Indianapolis Colts.
Now, I don't know.
Maybe the Titans aren't as bad as we thought.
I don't know.
Maybe we can look at a glass half full.
I love the way Salah showcased leadership.
After the situation that happened in his locker room and in his parking lot,
I thought that was one of the greatest speeches I've ever heard a coach give.
I appreciate him doing that.
Maybe the team will rally around getting a big-time win
and how good of a coach Coach Salah is.
But watching those Titans up close and personal,
I think they've got a lot of changes they're going to have to make
before they get good again.
And for the Colts, they already started.
They fired a general manager, and we've got huge decisions that have to be made soon.
The Colts might be living here, or they're 13-4 on the season.
Next team in here, they've called this place home.
They've got beds in here.
They put their shoes down.
They've got shirts hanging up in the closet of the Shite Division.
They summon Los Angeles Chargers.
Keep it up.
They haven't won.
We thought they would, and there's no win really in sight
as you look at their schedule.
The Chargers have made themselves comfortable at the Jamaica Bay
in Shite Division here, and I don't think they're leaving Ty.
This has been a surprise of a century.
Do you agree that the Los Angeles Chargers have become a mainstay
of this Shite Division?
Is it not?
Yeah, I think it is.
We had our reservations when Herbert was smooching all offseason.
I think a lot of red flags went up at that time.
I know everyone thinks Mike McDaniel is really cool and really funny,
and he hits a vape and stuff like that, but maybe it's time we start
second-guessing everything there is to second-guess about that guy.
I think you have to shit-can him.
You have to get Herbert back on the right path
because, like you said, it doesn't look like many wins
are coming down their pipe, and they're starting four rookies
on the offensive line.
How does this happen to them year after year after year after year?
Maybe that's why Harbaugh's dauber was so down when they lose their center.
He just goes, here we go again, and it does feel like they have been unlucky,
but they have found themselves a nice little home here
in a very difficult division to get into.
It had been four teams for a while.
Then we introduced an entire division last week.
If that division continues to not win a single game at a historic rate,
they've got to stay.
Congratulations to the entire NFC East.
Nice.
They're back.
Oh, and four weeks, six.
They haven't won a game in two weeks.
No teams, division teams, have done that in the history of the NFL, A.J.
NFC East is really holding it down here at the Shite division.
They've got the most amount of characters in here.
Maybe they hold a little bit of weight amongst the Shite,
but they certainly stink, and we couldn't have expected that, A.J.
Yeah, I would not have expected this if you go back four or five weeks from now,
but, I mean, I guess if you're going to be bad,
it's good to have some company around you.
You can look to your right and left and know that you have some people on your side
that are kind of sticking with you.
Now, let's see if they can continue this streak.
I don't know.
It'll be tough, but I think it's possible, though.
Yeah.
If they tie out, that'd be sick.
Go ahead, Tone.
Sorry, brother.
No, I was just going to say, it's not like they're just losing.
Every single team is doing something other than just losing.
Obviously, the Jalen Hurts incident, which is just unfortunate.
You've got a lot of guys.
They're retiring off of that team, getting traded off that team
that have been there for a long time.
The Cowboys are 1-8, I think, on their last nine primetime games,
just getting embarrassed in front of everyone.
The Commanders don't know what quarter it is, don't know what down it is.
It's just the entire –
Allegedly.
Oh, and the Giants, they have made a quarterback change now.
They're letting go of running backs.
They're benching running backs.
There's just so much happening besides just losing in that division.
And they are now back-to-back divisional representatives in the Shite division,
Who's the last team we think that's
snuck its way in here? Oh, another heartbreak.
Congrats to the Los Angeles Rams.
What? Wow.
Super Bowl favorite?
Two and four. That's wild.
Could have never guessed this with the Rams, but they
have found themselves in the shite division, and
I don't like it. Nobody does.
But if you got this right
earlier than everybody else on
X with hashtag program shite division, you
could potentially win an autographed
item from the Thunderdome. Last
week's winner has been found, and
we will certainly be sending
over an autographed item to Christian
Hamilton. Way to go, Chris.
Getting the
NFC East in there was
an incredible feat. Having them be in fourth
place in the shite is certainly
a good play. Titans the most shite last
week, then Chargers, Dolphins, NFC East. That
changes up this week. Chargers kind of a mainstay,
but everybody else has swapped. If
you got it right before everybody else, we'll send you something
autographed from the Thunderdome.
AJ, thank you for taking the trip over to Indianapolis.
You were the man, brother. Of course. Enjoyed
tonight, man. From the
trailers I have seen, that's going to be an
unbelievable situation. Tell me,
you said that theater has 900 people. Is it
that big? Yeah, I guess it's gigantic.
They're saying it's legendary, because last
night I had a chance to see a couple of the people from
the movie, and I was like, what am I
signing? I have no idea what this is. I
literally, I don't think about things until
they're about to happen, and I had not
really thought about this actual thing,
because this movie was shot so long ago, and
this business, there's so much that kind of happens
to get the magic into the film,
and Peter Berg, Ezra,
Emanuel, the entire squad over there
from Netflix, the amount of work
that they put into this movie, to be showcased
this evening, and to be invited
to be a part of the movie, and to be a part of
tonight, I'm honored and lucky to do it. I can't
wait. AJ, you're the absolute man. Boys,
good work. Gumpy, that a baby,
Gumpy. Hey, everybody.
Way to go, Woggle. All right. Be a friend, tell a
friend something nice. It might change your life. We're in this thing together.
I can't thank all of
you
enough for allowing us to do this
for a living. Don't look for me to be in a
lot more movies and acting after this little
run that we have, but I had an absolute
blast. Oh, we do got to make
our picks. We do got to make our picks. Oh, yeah.
Chuck was saying, Chuck's saying
fade him, right? He's been
preaching. He's been saying that, yeah.
He has been saying that. Garland,
who do you like tonight? Patriots, Bears?
He likes the Patriots.
Fucking A-right, Garland.
Hunter, yeah, I think you heard him.
Gumpy,
who do you like? Absolutely love the
New England Patriots tonight. Wow.
Hey, AJ, who do you
like? The Patriots, huh? I absolutely
love the New England Patriots tonight.
Yes. Oh, my God.
Tone,
who do you like? I love
the New England Patriots tonight. So now
it's becoming. Oh, you know what? You know what?
You're right. I love the New England
Patriots tonight, too. Yeah, you sons of bitches.
Oh, yeah. What a win this is.
Yeah, actually.
Give me the Patriots plus three tonight against the
Chicago Bears on prime. Thank you,
Connor, for representing. Hey, let's go.
Team ride, gentlemen. Come on, now.
Team ride, not only that, also on the
air, appearance. The future of the NFL
is now. Drake May and Caleb Williams
to both have over 210 passing
yards. If you look back at what they're averaging,
the teams, that is, through the beginning
of the season, we should hit this. It was boosted
to plus 100. It is not a guarantee.
Please gamble responsibly, but if you'd like
to come join us coast to coast, even if you want to
trade or bet, the trade markets
are good. The betting book is
fantastic. Only if
you're willing to gamble responsibly. If you're
going to be an asshole, don't join us.
Go somewhere else. Don't do it.
Call this number down here, actually.
But if you're going to be a responsible gambler,
we'd love for you to join us, and let's
get a win tonight, boys.
All right. Be a friend.
Tell a friend something nice. It might change their life. Congratulations to PTI. 25th anniversary.
We've got to give them love.
Got to give them love. What an incredible accomplishment
in a business in which they're trying to kick people out
of on a regular basis to remain
for two and a half decades at the
top of the biz is a feat that
I'm not sure anybody else will ever accomplish, but we'll
certainly all be chasing. Congrats to Mike
and Tony. I've seen Wilbon out here
a couple of different times for the NBA stuff.
Very cool to see legends in person.
Very cool to see a show continue to dominate.
Congrats to PTI. We hope
to emulate you someday, but 25
years seems like a really long time to be doing one
job, but maybe I'll
be able to stick with it for the first time in my entire life.
Be a friend. Team on me.
Team on three. For the good of sport,
baby. Hell yeah.
NFL's back tonight. Let's enjoy
it all. Love you, boys.
Love you. Love you.
One, two, three. Team.
Goodbye.
