Football is the absolute greatest, and we can't thank you enough for allowing us to do this for a living. I believe I just got texted some breaking news, so I don't know if I'm supposed to do this or not, but they sent me it, so I'm just going to do it. From the NFL, we, ladies and gentlemen, can announce the Offense, Defense, and Special Teams Players of the Week for the AFC and the NFC. Congratulations to these six men for winning the prestigious award of Players of the Week. I had a chance to win a couple of these. Obviously, it's a huge ordeal. Your team will celebrate you, and anytime you get represented or anytime you get celebrated by the league, I think it's a beautiful thing. Kenneth Walker introduces himself to the Kansas City Chiefs fan base as an absolute stud. Gets the rock on. The lot becomes their bell cow. They get a huge win over the Denver Broncos. T.J. Watt, his brother, J.J. Watt, will be joining us here in about 10 minutes or so. Congrats to him winning probably like his 50th one of these, an absolute stud. And then Evan McPherson won 4-4-4 with a long of 58 in Cincinnati. So their defense got a lot of turnovers on Tampa Bay. Joey Burrow can only play better, we would assume. And their special teams guys winning the AFC Special Teams of the Week. Maybe the Cincinnati Bengals are about to go on a run. And then the NFC side. Congratulations to Andre Swift. Yeah! That Bears team could have had about 10 different guys potentially. And then Zach Bond, linebacker for the Eagles all over the field. Then Simi Fajoko, which I don't think I know enough about and how he did, joining us. Ladies and gentlemen, he's a 13-year NFL vet, 12-year NFL vet, Super Bowl champion. Back to tell us about the trenches. Back to chit-chat about the big guys in ball. He was voted alongside David Pasch, the number two. A local color commentary team around the NFL last year, ladies and gentlemen. Penn State guy, A.Q. Schiller. A.Q., can you tell me about Simi Fajoko real quick here? Yeah, so he was battling for fifth or sixth spot as a wide receiver all training camp. He's been with the team for a couple years now. Practice squad guy. This year makes the team and gets a huge blocked punt in the game against the Chargers. Hey, I like everything that the Cardinals are doing. Got a new practice facility. The coach yesterday seems like a psycho in a good way, which I think we like. And obviously, you're on the call. They get a huge win over the Chargers. Everybody high on the Cardinals, very down on the Chargers. Did the Cardinals have their best game? Chargers had their worst game? Or the Cardinals for real, actually? The Cardinals are for real. I love their offense. The defense stepped up in a big way. They bring over Dewey Wingard from the Jaguars. Mack Wilson played out of his mind. They're better up front. Buda Baker's an absolute missile. So I think as long as the defense holds their own offensively, they have so much talent. And I think they're only up and to the right. Jacoby Brissett, $17 million a year. You can obviously work with that at the quarterback position, especially if you're trying to build a brand new era over there. Nine-year NFL vet, Darius J. Baller. Yes, sir. Everybody. Congrats to these guys. Anytime good player of the week, obviously. The boys are happy for you. The lads are happy for you. But for Kenneth Walker, great way to start his era with the Kansas City Chiefs. Absolutely. Just like you, he was lucky enough to win a couple of these. And it is a big deal because you look around the entire league or your entire conference, and for you to get that honor is huge. And yeah, that's a great welcome to the city for him to get a career high coming off being the Super Bowl MVP. A great, great investment by the Kansas City Chiefs, especially when Mahomes is trying to get up to speed to start his season. I love everything from K-9 and the rest of these guys. Zach Bond, building on the career that he's put together, which has been magical. Could have won defensive player of the year a couple years ago. Just all these guys across the board, man. Shout out. Way to start the season. Yeah, great start to the season in mid-season form. T.J. Watt gets a pick six. Unbelievable. Looks like a raptor. He looks like an actual, he looked like an alien of some sort. But he's done it before. I mean, he's starting to climb up the record books, not only for stats and pressures, but picks and everything like that. He's a ball hawk. Ladies and gentlemen, it's not just D-Butt, who's in the NFL for nine years. It's not just A.Q. Shipley, who's obviously been in the NFL 12 years, and now he's calling games. I cannot overstate how hard I hit this thing on that granite countertop, but I am the hardest working man in the business. I said, nope. Stevie needs me tomorrow. McAfee's going to need me tomorrow. I will be there. So I said, give me this cheap fucking sling and I'll be there and I'll be ready to go. Okay, so you're powering through a lot. You almost had to have your arm amputated because of the amount of pain. But the gummies are for a pat. I think you know a thing or two about that. Yeah, I do. And it's McAfee, not McAfee. It's the other side. All right, well, it's great to have you back. Let's talk about football, shall we? Let's talk about the storylines. Something we've been noticing is there might be a little bit of a hesitancy to give Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears offense as much credit as they potentially deserve for the 59 points that they put on. And it's not just outside. Party's talking about it. It's also Caleb. So we put our nose to the grindstone. We opened up a different vein of journalism that we're not used to doing. And, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to dive on in. Go clean up. We got to go be truthers. Obviously, this is going to be our kind of worst game. I know points don't necessarily show that, but execution and, you know, the blocking and the penalties, all these different things. And so just being able to be a truther about who we are and go watch the film. And that Carolina Panthers defensive tape is putrid. Whoa, whoa, whoa. He's got his notes over here. Blown coverage because of motion. You let him, you lost contain. You lost contain. You lost contain. So what is that? Seven or eight clips that are just, that's bad defensive football more than jaw-dropping offensive performance. Whoa, let's see. Let's see the sit. Rep, let's see the situational report, D-Butt. Is this, is this ass offense scoring 59 points or is this potentially a not-so-terrible start for the Chicago Bears? You know, when you put up 59 points, yeah, there is going to be a hand. Pretty, pretty, a lot of pizzazz in that photo. No, we can throw the photo back over. Let me link that up. I'm very, very professional. I appreciate you doing that. Very clean, very clean. Sit rep, situational report. For those that don't know, I'm watching Linus. Make sure you catch up on that. When you talk about special ops, Caleb is one of those guys. You're getting out there, he's an unbelievable quarterback, but when you put up 59 points for the defense, obviously there are going to be some shitty, very, very shitty plays, but there were a lot of very good reps from the defense from the Carolina Panthers that Caleb Williams just made unbelievable plays. This is one of them right here. We just call this a Houdini. What do you guys call this, AQ, on the offensive side of the ball with Cole Komet coming across that? Yeah, some type of escort motion, jet motion. Okay, boom. So right here, the Panthers do a great job matching this up, right? Play action. Throws out to the right. Houdini, you want to kind of pop out that backside. Usually that quarterback, I mean, tight end is wide open. He's not. He's covered, but Caleb does an unbelievable drop, throws an absolute dot right here on the run. So this is a play that Dan, this wasn't in his notes because this was a good defensive rep and just unbelievable play here at the top of the second quarter. Now getting to the situation report, we always talk about situational football, and a lot of times we see plays, we see highlights, but we don't see it within the context of the game or the flow of the game. So right here at the bottom of the screen, second quarter, 117 left, third and 11. So right here, you need a chunk play to have a realistic shot to get points on the board. And that's exactly what Caleb wins. 24-24. 24-24 ball game. Obviously a high scoring game. Neither defense is getting any stops here. And you're trying to get even more points going into the half because we know Ben Johnson's mindset. So third and 11, third and long, you let it run here. Boom. Caleb wins once again. Decent matches. Once you're at the top of the route, everybody's pretty much covered up. Now he extends the play, gets out to his left, makes an unbelievable throw down the field, across his body is not, it's not five quarterbacks in the league that can make this throw. And he does it a handful of times. You talk about TJ Watt on defense, him making those ridiculous plays. Same thing with Caleb Williams. Now this next play here, empty. So right here, you kind of have two kind of zone type players. And on the outside, they're doing man matches. So right now you got three by two. So you got three receivers down to the right. And that's kind of where Caleb's going to look early. And he's going to get back to Luther Burden on an in-breaking route. And a lot of times we talk about timing. We talk about anticipation. We talk about anticipation with quarterbacks. And he makes his throw. And you'll see it from the back copy. He makes his throw fully trusting his receiver is going to be exactly where he's supposed to be. And watch his throw. After he throws it, pause it, Foxy. Right now, when he's throwing his ball, he can't see the receiver. 62 is right in his face. Tooney's right in his face. So you'll see him peek around Tooney to make sure it's completed, to see it. So he's trusting his offense. He's trusting his guys. This is kind of, you always talk about the Jared Goff of the offense. This, that. Get to the top, make a throw. Once again, not a terrible defensive rep by the Carolina, the Carolina Panthers. And then once again, this is the very next play. Let it run. Get to the top of the drop. Guys are covered up. Okay. This is what I'm, now I'm going to be special. I'm going to use my legs. This is what you don't get with a Jared Goff type quarterback. Good pass rush, but he breaks it, ducks up out of there, becomes Houdini. So this is kind of looking into it. And now you get another touchdown on the board right before the half. But when you started this as a defense, 117 on the clock, we got them in third and 11. I feel really, really good about them on that side of the field. And then you fast forward 30 seconds left on the clock and he's running into the end zone, the touchdown. So Caleb Williams obviously had a phenomenal week and we've seen a ton of the plays, but it's just more in the context of like a two minute drive, a two minute drill, the situational football and him, you know, elevating his game and elevating that team to who knows what they'll be through the rest of the season. I mean, 24-24 already. If Carolina gets the ball back, who says they don't go down and take the lead right before half? That's obviously the middle eight is a huge part of the entire game. This touchdown could have been the thing that kind of sprung open the entirety of what the Chicago Bears did entire drive. A lot of great decisions, a lot of great plays. AQ, where do you sit at on the Caleb Williams-Chicago Bears discussion? They hung 59. I think that's a pretty good start to the season. Yeah, this is one guy I was completely wrong about. I mean, I thought to start the year last year, I was like, okay, I don't think this is going to go anywhere. And then you see him start to get better and better and better. And by the time he gets to the playoffs, he becomes magical, right? And so how is he going to take the next leap? He comes out this past weekend and looks phenomenal. So, I mean, again, being better, the run game being better, more skilled players being better, right? I think all of that plays into this because running the football only makes quarterbacks better. They run for 290 yards. It just allows him to have the play-action game and have the drop-back game. Swift, one of the running backs goes for the NFC Player of the Week, turns out. Obviously, Caleb thinks he can only get better. Joining us now is a man who we were so excited to watch and listen to. He's the number one color commentator for CBS, friend of the program. The reason why this is Watt Wednesday, ladies and gentlemen, future first ballot Hall of Famer, maybe. We think. Ladies and gentlemen, J.J. Watt. Yay! How you doing, J.J.? I'm great. I thought I was on the wrong show for a minute when I saw Mad Dog earlier, so glad to see Ty's back. I don't know if he's going to be excited or not to talk about the game that we had, but I'm happy to be here. Well, I think he might sound a little bit like Mad Dog if we talk about that fourth quarter, but it is nice to see you back. I don't know if you got a chance to see what happened. I haven't. Like I said, I just heard a big ruckus, and no, I'll ask him. At the break, I'll pop on on Twitter and see kind of what the hubbub was about. Because J.J. was saying that Mad Dog's face was kind of glitchy a little bit, and he looked a little bit like you in part of that. I don't know if you saw that. No, no. I told you I was taking a pice over there. Must have been quite the deuce you were taking that. No, it was a pice. Yeah, it was like a 12-minute piss I was taking. It was not a shite. It was a pice. I think that's a medical issue. No, I was too hydrated. No, I was well hydrated. Very clear. Yeah, you're super hydrated. Especially post-everything that happened. Yeah, exactly. I'm trying. Good for you, man. Thank you. I'm going to have a seizure with these cutbacks here. That's a lot of cuts back and forth. I'm going to have a stroke on the show. That would be good television, though. Oh, now he's judging Foxy. That sounds like a medical issue, J.J. You should get that checked out. Yeah, he's got a long piss. You've got a medical issue as well. I like that. I like that. Okay, let's talk about the game that you think Ty would potentially not be necessarily thrilled about, which, by the way, he's not. Doesn't want to give up hope. Obviously, a long season, but the Carson Wentz experience takes over CBS' number one booth against the Green Bay Packers. Fourth quarter just becomes the most electrifying game that we've seen in some time. Can you tell me, as you were riding alongside the Carson Wentz experience, what was happening? And how'd week one go with Jim Nance, brother, from your own perspective? It was great. It was great. Had a great time. Minnesota, phenomenal atmosphere. Divisional game. I mean, I would say, obviously, Carson Wentz steps in. Kyler Murray hit was brutal. Happy to see that he's okay and doing. But I would call it the Brian Flores experience. I mean, Carson Wentz stepped in. and did a great job managing the game, managing the situation, putting the ball where it needed to be. But Brian Flores and what this defense did was truly incredible to watch. I have so rarely seen a defensive performance where it looked like there were 15 defenders on the field at any given time. They were sending blitzers left and right and center, and there was just no answer whatsoever by that Green Bay offensive line, whether it's scheme, sometimes it was by just pure pass rush moves, Cashman right up the middle at all times. Jordan Love was back there just trying to find.1 seconds to get the ball off, and he had nothing to do and nowhere to go with it. It was a thoroughly dominant fourth quarter performance by Brian Flores and the Vikings defense. They talked about his pressure like 78% or something like that, 73%. It was obviously the highest in the league. And I've got a chance, obviously, every day to chat with two guys. You guys that play NFL defense, you as well. I'm excited to hear your thoughts on this. When a defensive coordinator puts this much trust and power into his defensive players, what's the reaction normally, and what's the downfall? Potential explosives over top with Christian Watson, but can you not also wear a team out maybe from bringing it like this all game? Well, here's the interesting thing that Flores does with his defense is he also plays the most shell coverage behind it. Cover two, cover four, he plays these shell coverages. So he is basically saying, I know. There's a lot of holes in this defense behind this pressure. I know that if you find those holes, I'm in trouble. But what I'm trusting on is my pressure in that front to get there before you have the opportunity to find those holes. And that is exactly what we saw happen. Jordan Love did find those holes a few times, and he delivered the ball to those places. But more times than not, all day long, the pressure got there before he was able to exploit it. And the point that you made about the ownership of the defense is a very good one. He puts a ton of ownership on this defense. All week long, he was talking to us about how they put all those guys in the line of scrimmage, and they let them decide. If Green Bay looks like they're bringing in the right people to block it up, then they drop out into zone, and they get to pick the coverage a lot of times. So that's Blake Cashman, that's Harrison Smith, deciding what coverages they want to run. And when you have that type of ownership, then it truly is your defense, and you love it. Yeah, if you have the players taking that type of ownership, obviously everybody's looking for a player. Here's Led Logrim. Harrison obviously disappointed himself. He just alley-ooped a lad. How about him coming in, what, two days before the game? And all of a sudden, he's calling coverages week one against the Packers, and obviously they get a huge win. They also bring in Kyle Vandoy, right? So it felt like, you know, let's get some vets in here that understand the system, understand the way we operate. And is this sustainable, I guess, would be the next question. And like J.J. said, when you have that ownership as a player, that's big. Because the biggest disadvantage for a defense a lot of times is the quarterback gets to the line of scrimmage, they can see, look, they can see coverages, they can see the shell, and they can make all the adjustments. And then if you have a defense who's just stagnant, just stays in their call, you're asked out most of the time. So a defense like Seattle, they do a lot of communicating where, hey, we can just switch responsibilities, or you can get here, you got different bodies. And Harrison Smith, that interception, like just getting that quick reroute, because that's Jordan Love's quick answer right there from that look. Getting that reroute, him being behind, Harrison obviously not picking up and tapping up tips and overthrows. He just creating more and more havoc plays. Like I love it. I love watching his defense. Now, obviously, if you give one up and you get Christian Watson, he can hit you for 80. That's the downside of it. But you want to create those havoc plays in the fourth quarter. You want that quarterback almost seeing ghosts, even when you're not getting real pressure. Hey, Jage, I talked about it. Having Carson Wentz on one side of the field and B-Flow's defense on the other side of the field. This might be the most must-watch team in the NFL right now, depending upon how long this goes. But what a day for the Vikings. What a good three quarters for the Packers. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, it was. It was a great three quarters until that fourth one. But, Jage, I think the biggest talking point from that game, at least, and I don't know how – I'm curious to know how it felt in the booth. When the Packers take the points off the board, go for it on fourth down, go with the sneak, get stuffed. Like, as a Packers fan, I said to myself, like, oh, boy, they're going to lose this game. And then, obviously, is the next drive where you have multiple penalties where they looked like they were going to get off the field on third down. What did you think of that whole sequence of events? And did it feel like in the stadium, like, oh, boy, the momentum's turned? And there's no way that the Packers are going to be able to kind of reel this back in. Yeah. No, this was obviously the biggest moment of the game and then the subsequent sequence following it. But Jim and I disagreed on what we thought of this play, and I think that was a lot of fun in the booth being able to have – he doesn't like taking points off the board at all, and I completely understand that side of it. I said with Green Bay's struggles last year of closing out games, I liked that they were going for the jugular here, that they were saying, let's go ahead. Let's go up by a couple scores here, and let's put this one away now. So I liked that LeFleur did that. And I said this at the time. The thing that I didn't like is trusting this standard, regular quarterback sneak with no pushers and just thinking that you're going to be able to fall forward for a first down. In today's NFL, the quarterback sneak is something that you must practice and perfect. And we have seen a lot of teams do it successfully. They did not do it successfully here. You need a pusher behind. These guys are too big. Big Citrus himself. They wanted to test the rookie Big Citrus. They found out what Big Citrus was about. Now, to your point of the next drive, there were some certainly questionable calls that kept the drive alive. The biggest one, in my personal opinion, being the roughing the passer. This is not roughing the passer. This is not roughing the passer in any capacity. He doesn't hit him up high. He doesn't hit him down low. He goes to land on him, and he braces himself with both hands, which is literally exactly what the officials tell you to do. They should have been off the field. Okay. There's a lot of Packers fans, you know, saying the ref screwed him completely. Now, we have heard from a Packers fan who's given up on the NFL as a whole because of the refs. Yeah, that's right. Which is a shame. It is a shame. Just done with the entire NFL. Yeah, not done with the Packers, but done with the league as a whole. And still going to watch ball. That's tough. Patriots kind of, you know, got off to a good start against the Seattle Seahawks and got suffocated by Mike McDonald. What are you thinking for that game? How do you see it going, and what is kind of your expectation going into Gillette on Sunday? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, obviously. Currently, the big story is A.J. Brown being out. That's going to change what the Patriots' offense looks like and how they operate. Maybe they get Travion Henderson back, which can help open up the run game, open up that play-action game, and get the ball down the field more. But we all saw what happened at the end of that game with the three interceptions, and that's certainly not how they wanted to start the season. Now, as a player, I sit there and I think, okay, they had a long time off since that, about 11 days. That can be a good thing in one way, where you get to look at the tape, you get to, you know, what went wrong, how can we fix it? But I'm a personal guy where I want to get back out there as quickly as humanly possible to try and get that bad taste out of my mouth. So that's a long time to sit with that game. Steelers on the other side, offense, you know, they didn't run the ball that great. They did try to move the ball down the field much more than they did in the past. Weren't very successful down the field, but at least it looked like a little bit of a concerted effort. I believe Aaron Rodgers had the most air yards. Of his time as a Steeler. So they are trying to do that. And then their defense, they kept it extremely simple. I don't think they ran a single snap of man coverage. They only ran two blitzes the entire day. But you had TJ with two sacks and a pick six. You have Alex Highsmith with two sacks. Cam Hayward had three batted balls. When you're able to rush four and just play coverage behind it and still get to the quarterback, that's dangerous. I didn't watch every rep. Was TJ on this side every time? Because I know they were trying to think about moving him and dropping him back. What was he doing? No, I believe. I saw the numbers this morning. I think he played six times on the right side, and he did get one sack off of the right side. So they are making concerted effort, and he did move over there and find success. He was kind of hesitant, right? Because he felt like he was maybe wasting reps. Like, hey, I'm over here. Why are we wasting any snaps over there? I've already proven I can do good. That was a real hesitancy, right, out of him? Yeah. And then another thing that they did was they limited the number of snaps. So he played the least amount of snaps by far in his career. I think it was only 38 snaps. Rotated all those guys. Herbig, Highsmith, Jack Sawyer, TJ. And they rotated all of them, kept them all fresh. And the production was there on only 38 snaps. You got two sacks, three TFLs, a pick six. I would say that that's a good thing for the coaching staff going forward so that he doesn't continue asking for more snaps. Because when you can point them to the tape and say, look what you did with these minimal ones, that'll make him buy in even more. Listen, it turns out that whenever we just beat him down with other. And then you pop in there, it's a little bit of a shock to the system of these offensive linemen to see TJ Watt pop in there. Hell of a start to his season. We look, new look Chiefs for sure. But Broncos side, are you more concerned about them, more excited about the Chiefs? Because offense looked terrible. Defense couldn't tackle. So what's, I guess, your reaction from that game from both sides? You hit the nail on the head. My two biggest questions are the tackling of their defense, which I think that is something that you get significantly better at over the course of the season. And especially when you have a display like that on week one, the point of emphasis this week for that defense is going to be so heavy on that. They will be better. The other question is the offense and Sean Payton and the play calling and Davis Webb and how long that goes. I mean, you saw the question asked at halftime. You saw Sean's answers. We'll see how the second half goes. And, you know, when you've got one. One of the best play callers in the game who is not actually calling the plays. It's a question of how long does that go and how many opportunities do you get? And I'm not a fan of making rash decisions or overreactions after week one. But that question is going to come up, certainly if the offense looks that way again. So we'll see the Chiefs side. I mean, the way that they ran the ball and literally almost had the point of saying we are only going to run the ball on this first drive was a very clear, concerted effort to set a tone. And Kenneth Walker is going to tote the rock quite a few times this year, it appears. Yeah, I think Kenneth Walker, obviously, AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Congrats to him. T.J. Watt, AFC Defensive Player of the Week. Congrats to him. Evan McPherson, Special Teams AFC Player of the Week. Quite a trio there as they celebrate week one success. They just gave him the ball, what, first six snaps? And then you go back to what Travis said on that New Lights podcast. Every single day, we've been talking about running through people's faces. It's like that is certainly. A nice culture shift. AQ, you said you love to hear that. And that was kind of the Kansas City Chiefs problem. It felt like since BNME had left. I think the biggest knock on them over the last couple of years is the fact that they haven't had much of a running game. They've tried. They've tried to stay, you know, within 10 to 15 runs just to kind of keep the defense honest. But they haven't had a power run game. They haven't been big in the 100-yard-plus running games. And now, all of a sudden, you come out and you have 170 yards rushing with Kenneth Walker. You bring him over from Seattle. He was fantastic. And it wasn't all. It wasn't all just the offensive line. A lot of that was him. There was, I mean, think about the fourth down play where he bounced. He was supposed to hit that thing downhill. They got stuffed, kind of. He bounces it and turns it into a huge game. I forget. I think it was 62 of his 89 first-half rush yards came after contact. It's like, yeah, that'll do. Of course, 14 missed tackles. 28 missed tackles is a total for the Broncos' defense. And then you go to the offensive side there. You talk about Davis Webb calling plays. Rappaport came on yesterday and was like, Sean Payton understands that this could be a little bit, and it might take a while for Davis Webb to do his thing. It was like, well, he did an interview with Miss Laura at halftime, so you can ask me at the end of this half, you know, because the plan could be, let's have patience, let's have patience, let's have patience, but that's the second worst offensive performance for a Sean Payton team since like 2000, whatever, I forget the year, forever. It's like, how long does that, how long is that leash for Sean Payton in real time? Because in theory, it's fun. It's going to take him a little bit to get used to it. But when you're standing on a sideline just watching shit happen, it's like, I. And this isn't, and this isn't a team that's. This isn't a team that's trying to, you know, coming off of a rebuild or anything like that. This is a team that possibly is in the Super Bowl if their quarterback doesn't get hurt last year. So this is a team that has to take advantage of a window that they are in right now. And if it looks the same way in week two as it did in week one, you know there's going to be some conversations to be had there. Yeah, you'd think there'd be a little bit of heat. Super Bowl champions had a huge storyline take place, but it's so long ago, everybody's kind of forgot about it. Go ahead, A.Q., with the last one. Last question. Yeah, J.J., the Seahawks lose Sam Darnold early, Drew Locke comes in. Now that he has a week to prepare, as a defense, do you prepare differently when you have a guy like Drew Locke, who may not be a Carson Wentz as a full-time former starter, a guy that's going to be a fill-in backup, but do you prepare any differently when you have a guy like that? A little bit, but you really can't because you'd be doing yourself a disservice. I mean, the natural, immediate feeling is to be like, okay, lean a little. Heavy on the run game, to play action. Try and make it as quarterback-friendly as possible, especially when you have a defense like Seattle has, and they know that they can control the game that way, so that you may not have to do as much and take as much on. But, I mean, you watch that game, and he's making deep throws. He's putting some in tight situations. It's not like he's a guy who can't go back there and do it. So, if you're not preparing like he can do every single thing that Sam Darnold does, then you're doing yourself a disservice. But, do I think they're going to just. completely unleash everything? No, but you better be ready in case they do. I like how Drew Locke stepped in there, Jage. I don't know how many people have the mindset to be able to do that. Now, granted, there's a lot of great backup quarterbacks throughout the history of this league who I think get mocked and ridiculed because they're backup quarterbacks, but backup quarterbacks mentally and physically have to be able to do so many things. That's why there's normally a backup quarterback that'll travel or be around for a long time. Have to give a great look, have to be able to make every single throw, have to learn so many different offenses each week to make it look natural, have to be a good communicator, have to be liked in the building, have to be liked by the quarterback, have to do homework assignments for the starting quarterback, and oh yeah, you've been standing on the sideline for an hour and a half, two hours, you've had no reps with the first team, you have no idea what's supposed to happen, now you're in there, figure it out. And it's like the mentality that that takes is a special one, and Drew Locke, I think we've seen it since the beginning, maybe perfect timing for him to be their backup quarterback up there in Seattle, Jage. Yeah, and let me tell you what makes that guy's job a whole lot easier when he steps in off the bench cold. Jackson Smith and Jigba, Cooper Cup, like this offense, like yeah, he's pretty, you go out there and you've been throwing the second team or the scout team all week, and then all of a sudden you step out of the game field and you pass the JSN for five yards, and boom, to the end, it's like, oh, that's pretty nice, I like that, so I should just give the ball to that guy and we're going to be just fine, so it certainly helps to be able to step into a beautiful situation like that. John Schneider has built a good one up there, hasn't he? Oh yeah. Yeah, he's built a good one, and now we do know he likes to have a good time. Oh yeah. So he likes to have good things happen so he can have a good time, but this McDonald guy, he might go down later in life as one of the ones. Wins the Super Bowl so early so he's already legit, right? I mean, resume's already legitimized. Super Bowl winning head coach, and it feels like he's only getting started out there. They go for sale. I think new owner, having Schneider and McDonald in there is a huge piece of the value. Do you agree with that or no? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, you're coming off of a Super Bowl, just won one. You've got a young coach who's a brilliant mind in the game. You've got a GM who's built two Super Bowl winning rosters, who's proven to be able to do it time and time again. Yeah, I would say being able to secure those two guys in a league where a head coach is almost as valuable as the starting quarterback, if you got the right one, like, very, very worth it. Good for the Seattle Seahawks. You know, other teams have to be wondering how much they're worth. You know, they start looking at these sales. How much did they go for? Wait a minute. What is the time? Is the time now? We shall see. New ownership. You start, that's actually, I saw this the other day with Sean McVay where somebody was asking, I think it was Les Snead, how many first round picks would it take to give Sean McVay? At what point are we talking about some of these head coaches in like the, hey, starting quarterback money is 70 million and the top head coach is making 20. Like at some point, is there a like, that number is going to double quickly or, and because they're also, not within, you know, the same constraints. So we thought that Denver would do it, right? Cause they basically are, they're the wealthiest family. The Walmart family is obviously the most amount of money in the NFL ownership group. And Sean Payton, whenever he was up looking at places, he's looking at Arizona Cardinals. We assumed no way Cardinals ownership is able to do the same as Denver. From the beginning, what we thought was going to happen ended up happening with him going to Denver. And they did talk about what they were able to offer to all the coaches. Vance is still there. I mean, people have been wanting Vance for a long time. He's defensive coordinator. I think he's making a ridiculous amount of money. I think that is a weapon that ownership groups who have deep pockets certainly have over the others because there is no cap. But to your point, do we know exactly what these guys are making and what their incentives are? I don't know. No, I mean, we don't know exactly. No. I mean, I know that the rumor top coaches are somewhere in the 20 to maybe 25 range. That's just rumors and what the numbers on the internet say, but come on, like, if you, if they hit a real free agency, like, what do you, what are you offering up for a Sean McVay or Mike McDonald or Kyle Shanahan or Shane Steichen, you know? Well, you don't have to do that. Well, I just don't know. I just don't know. We like Shane. We would like Shane to be here forever. But Shane Steichen and Mike McDonald are not going for the same asking price. Well, Sean McVay was also added in. Bingo. You add him to the Mike McDonald area. Okay. Not Shane Steichen. He's not going for the same asking price. He's not going for four first-round picks. Highest paid NFL coaches, says Sportico, Andy Reid, 20, Harbaugh, 20, Sean Payton, 20, McVay, 19. And a lot of these guys could potentially have in their contracts when a new deal is done, I am definitely within the top five. So you see the 4-4 there, McVay and Shanahan, that's probably a top five money no matter what happens to the new deals for anybody else. Those types of things do happen. Top money, no matter what happens with anybody else. Coaches are able to work like that. Once again, coaches have no salary. They have no salary cap either. So to JJ's point, if you want to pluck somebody and give more money than anybody else, you can certainly do that if you have a deep-pocketed owner. Now, you know who should be making more money? Somebody do it for Tomlin next year? Somebody do that for Mike Tomlin? Maybe. He's great on TV thus far. I hope he doesn't leave, but maybe. Yeah. McDermott. Mike Tomlin has a lot of wins. McDermott. There's a chance, you know, that the Chiefs maybe fall back after what they just did. Kenneth Walker runs wild. Obviously, Derrick Henry did that this past weekend. Actually kind of impressed. And pumped that no Baltimore Raven won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week because three of them could have. Lamar could have. Derrick Henry and Zay Flowers could have. Are we able to make a big jump week one to week two? Not just the Colts. Let's talk about the entire shite division or all these teams. Are these teams going to make a big jump between week one and week two? That's always like the cliche thing that is set up. Yeah, looking at this shite division, for me, you look at teams that you expect to make a run. I would start from the bottom going up. You obviously expect the Los Angeles Rams to get their shite. Maybe they were just the sleepy Rams. Maybe it was a terrible plan to call for 24 hours before the game down in Australia. What do Rammies dream of when they take a little Rammie snooze? Oh, wait. Are those the uniforms they're wearing on Monday? Oh, no chance. Yeah, they're done. I don't know. Weren't those uniforms they were wearing when you were at that Chiefs-Rams blowout or shootout? Yeah, Monday Night Football way back. Did they look exactly like this? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. But they didn't have staff for that QB. That is a dirty graphic, so we would assume that Dirty would have it accurate. And I don't think we need to be saying Savannah Bananas with the Los Angeles Rams. I don't know. Because, yes, they are a spectacle, and they are a show. But the Savannah Bananas wouldn't have gone down to Australia and laid an egg. They would not have done that. Jesse Cole is not going to have the Savannah Bananas down under not having their best game. But there is a chance that they grossly miscalculated the travel, and they just did not show up. Miles Garrett potentially on a bum knee, wasn't able to be an impact. He goes on IR with the surgery. But the Los Angeles Rams, we assume. Now, granted, the Giants are a ground-and-pound football team. Dallas Cowboys had two drives in the second half, scored on both of them. It didn't matter because the Giants just kept the ball away from them. I guess there's a chance the Rams could come back to life, but there also is a chance the Giants are for real, D-Boy. Yeah, they look like a very good football team, a physical football team. Mike Tomlin spoke after the game, and he said, I've been watching that team or that game plan, that game script for 20 years with John Harbaugh, and that's what everybody, I expected him to build. Jackson Dart, I thought, looked great. Now, kind of like same thing Dan was saying, a lot of his great was the Cowboys' defense also looking absolute shite. But I thought he looked very good. I thought he looked very comfortable. I thought Nagy did a great job with him. Week one, Greg Roman designing the run game. Obviously, they're going to be a physical bunch of Patrick Ricard and Big Scat back there. So if Jackson Dart can stay upright and continue going through his reads and being comfortable making those throws, I think they can be great, especially with the defense on the flip side, the pressure that they put on on their front, they're going to help those. Those guys on the back end continue to get better. So that should be a good game. But I do expect the Rams to bounce back. Obviously, you have a great coach, Sean McVay. You got a reigning MVP with Matt Stafford. And we may see 99 back on the field for the first time in a long time for that defense, which will give them a jolt of energy. So I expect the Rams to bounce back. The Colts as well. Now, the Titans and the Browns, you know. A lot of people are putting the Colts just right in there with the Titans. No, I won't do that. I won't do that. No, but I'm saying people are saying that. Like, not us. Because we're going to win. Because we're here in Indianapolis, and I'm a season ticket holder. But being that, we did get to watch them. There's a lot of people saying they're a little bit worried about the entire culture of maybe the Indianapolis Colts and not being able to get back on the horse. What's concerning? You do get embarrassed. Yeah. That was kind of an embarrassing loss. A lot of veteran guys on that team. Yep. A lot of very good football players on that team. Yes. I assume they will bounce back. Having to go to Arrowhead with this brand-new mentality that they had a few years back is a tough task. We have played the Chiefs well, though. Every time we match, regardless of what their record is, even when they were on that dynastic run, we've kind of always played this team well. And I think, you know, Patrick Mahomes, he's coming to this season with a huge chip on his shoulder, too. I believe in Danny Dimes. Me, too. Absolutely. He got unlucky early with that turnover. Boom. Kind of deflects, and then a pick happens. And then defense can't get a stop for the life of him, you know. And he's got to sit there and just watch Lamar Jackson saunter around. Maestro. He's sauntering around. He's got his towel in the back. Okay. I do like the towel in the back because it looks cool. But him, like, using his towel in the back while he's walking around, just is, like, just so awesome. That's how we do it. Right into the thing. Boom. Okay. Here we go. Right up to the – this is week one. Okay. We're supposed to be learning some stuff. Right up to the thing. We got a motion with this guy. Then I'm throwing the tight end out there. Then the running back's going out the other side. Hi, heep. Hi. And then, whew, Zay Flowers touchdown. It's like, wow. You're not supposed to be this smooth, this on time, this comfortable week one with a brand-new offense like Declan Doyle has for him. But I think Lamar's investment all offseason, I think Lamar knew what was possible with Declan Doyle. Yeah. And I think Lamar was excited for it. And I'd assume Declan Doyle, hey, first-time play caller, guess what you got? Oh, you got a Madden video game player as your quarterback. This guy can throw the ball better. 99 throwing and then running, best ever do it. So. Good luck out there. And, oh, yeah, he is a football IQ genius. Savant, he's going to be able to figure it out for you. It's like, what a dream for Declan Doyle to come in and they executed as if the Colts weren't even on the field. Yeah, flawlessly. And that's what, you know, that never gets, he never gets the right amount of credit for that, for what he does between the ears and his passing. I think after this game, he became the all-time NFL leader with passer rating at like 102.4, some shit like that. But he's dealt with, he's learned under a bunch of different coordinators, and he's won, he's won MVP on the Greg Roman system, he's won MVP in Todd Monken system, and now he's with Declan Doyle. And it started great. That was your biggest takeaway, Pat, was all the pre-snap, the motions, the shifts, and all the things that you're doing, moving a defense, especially a Lou and a Romo defense who has a bunch of adjustments and they want to see things and have different things. So once you move a guy or shift a guy, you got to change, you got to communicate. And he was just in total control. This is my first time really watching him. You know, he's been in the league forever, but boots on the ground. And we talked about it in the suite. It's like, oh, should we get to watch Lamar? We get this experience, and it was an experience. Like, okay, this guy's just better at football than everybody else. Yeah, and it was obvious. Yeah. I mean, it was like very evident that that guy was the best football player that maybe has ever played on that. No, Peyton. Okay, let's not get crazy. No, I don't know. Peyton, obviously, GOAT, Rushmore. Shout out to Eli and Peyton last night, by the way, had some magical moments. But just Lamar Jackson, just doing Lamar shit. And then Zay doing Zay stuff. And him on the sideline, no helmet, no gloves. And you look up at stats, he's already had 150 yards. It's like, we got two quarters left. This guy's not playing the whole half. If he could have 300 yards, and then you look at Derrick Henry, Hall of Famer. Oh, yeah, he had a career day as well. Ran himself in a record book. It's like, wow, I guess we were lucky to be here. But it didn't feel like that in real time. Felt like we were on the complete opposite end of that. We still don't know what this Ravens team is going to be. We don't know what any of these teams are going to be. Hopefully, the Colts are able to bounce back. Well, yeah, and who knows? It's just week one. But I think if you are a Colts fan, I think there is a chance that the Ravens are going to do this to a lot of people. We're probably not too far away. Declan Doyle was the OC in Chicago next year. That's the next thing is the cup of coffee with Sean McVay. Anyone who's taken a piss next to Ben Johnson or been involved with his offense at all is going to get opportunities to be an offensive coordinator and then head coach, et cetera, et cetera. I mean, pretty good performance for him to start. And obviously, when you have Lamar and Derrick Henry and Zay Flowers doing what they're doing, that certainly helps. But I think there is a chance they do that to a lot of teams. Yeah, I hope. That's what Colts fans are certainly hoping. And I would like to see this Colts team get back to what they were. For you, though, what was the takeaway week one with this offensive explosion and potential full buy-in to the run game by a league wide? Obviously, a lot of points. The run games were fantastic. But the biggest takeaway that I took away is the big narrative over the years, and I've been very heavy on this, is that rookie offensive linemen can't come in and play right away. We had six rookie offensive linemen make impact. Let's start with the Ravens and Venga Ioanni, the Penn State product. Look who he's going against, Pat. It's the Indianapolis Colts and DeForest Buckner, the $100 million man. Let's watch him move DeForest out of the way. Twerk him outside. Derek Henry hits it. I didn't see any twerking out of the Ravens. A little twerk. A little twerk. Oh, twerk. Yeah, Pittsburgh accent. You said twerk. I thought you were saying twerk like booty on him, because I didn't see him put any booty on him, but I did see him putting. Two hands and twerk his ass out. Twerk. So he torqued his ass. Torqued his ass. Oh, 54 gave him a little love, too. Yeah. And, by the way, the 54, that's his first start. So good things are coming for the Colts defense. That's his first start ever in his NFL career. We had a linebacker that had 42 snaps that didn't record a single stat. So I was just trying to figure out which one he was on, that particular one. We need him to dive on a pile next week. He was all over the field, though. Yeah, but nowhere near the ball. We need you near the ball. He's out there doing cardio. Okay, who else, AQ, should we spotlight some of these young guys? This guy, he is track practice out there. How do you do that in linebacker? Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is a linebacker that could be able to give us an answer live from Nantucket, Ohio, as we continue these rookies playing like vets from the offense line. Even though I think it is easier to tell if somebody did anything in a game in 42 snaps as opposed to what their actual job was versus getting a pick six on a play and being an asshole and saying we're smarter than you. Okay. Okay. We've heard about football. That whole thing is a little bit different, but you have to try not to be in the middle of something in line. Like, I was a punter, kicker. If there was a pile near me, I'm falling into it. First of all, I don't want to get my knees hurt, but also maybe a half tackle. Yeah, sure. Maybe I pick up a little half tackle. Aren't you guys taught that as, like, kids at the linebacker position? And you guys normally have. 11 men to the ball. 11 guys to the ball every single play. That's the goal. Well, it didn't happen. So we need to change that. Okay? We need to change that. But it could have also been because Lamar was actually just moving him with every single motion. They did six motions, it felt like, before every single snap. Our guys, we didn't know. You should be able to run around 42 plays with a blindfold on and run into a guy. Okay, so this is like hitting water out of a boat. Yes. Okay, at linebacker. If he was safety, corner, you know, just kind of dropping out of things, linebacker's job is to be in the stuff. Yeah. I don't want to put your face in there. They run. They ran the ball a lot, too. Yeah, they did. For a lot of yards, too. You know, it's not like they threw it 70 times. Like, they ran the ball a lot. So we got a big jump from week one to week two. But also, they had some great blocking. We just saw. AJ, welcome to the program. We're in the middle of some rookies that are playing like vets. This is a big AQ takeaway from the Fat Boys. Remember, there was a lot being said about the offensive linemen being like an epidemic. These young guys can't block anymore. AQ said vastly different things about this week one. Absolutely. Let's head up to New York. The New York Giants. And one of their first-round picks in Sissy, Maui Noah. My favorite offensive lineman for the draft. It's Sissy Marinara. Well, I call him. Yeah, exactly. You heard Baldinger yesterday. I call him Marinara. That's right. But look at the hand placement. Look at him run his feet and putting dudes on the ground, finishing on top. That's a rookie offensive lineman getting his first start in primetime football. Gets underneath the shade. Gets his hand placement. Runs his feet. Buries him on top. Okay, so we like the rookies getting a little dirty. Why do you think they're having success as we move to the next rook that was playing like a vet? I think as I go down this list, 44 college starts, 42 college starts. The next guy we're going to talk about, 54 college starts, team captain, Blake Miller. Again, one of my favorite linemen in the draft. Gets his first start at right tackle. Watch him pull around. Look at that big moose. Haul around the corner. Kick him out and get a big run from Gibbs. Okay, so you're saying a lot of football being played. Also, maybe a little bit more maturity because they're sticking around longer. But NIL has obviously done some things to the college game, the college experience. We've seen a lot of quarterbacks with a lot of reps do well whenever they get in. Sounds like what you're saying, even though there has been a lack of development at the offensive line position over the last 10 years, maybe that's changing slowly as opportunity is being seen? Well, I think as the run game started to increase in the NFL a couple years ago, we saw the yards per carry start to go up, all that stuff. It started to creep back into the college game. You started to see a lot more running game-centric offenses. And I think when you look at that, five years ago, let's say, these guys were never in a three-point stance. All they were asking for was a three-point stance. I think we've gotten a little bit away from that. We've gotten more into the run game and more of a traditional offense that you see in the NFL. There is still that RPO element, but they are having to put their hand in the dirt and run. So it's almost like the best version. We've got an RPO. Jason Kelsey was so good, right, because he could pull and move as a center. That's who he was. He could also get physical. It's almost like the RPO with the evolution of the run game. Good plan. We're potentially creating hybrids right now at the offensive line position. Is that what you're potentially seeing here early? 100%. And it matches. It matches up with the quarterbacks we're starting to see. You're starting to see Jackson Dart being able to move and run and get outside the pocket more like Lamar Jackson. Obviously, it comes from the Baltimore world, but that's the new quarterback, Caleb Williams. You can't just have these statues anymore. Everybody has to be able to move. Even if it's just a little bit, you've got to be able to escape and get out. You know, a lot of people call this younger generation soft, you know, from our generation. I think that maybe there was a generation that was softer. Then I think there's that next group. Sure. They might be. We might have some real. A couple of junkyard dogs. This generation that is kind of coming through right now feels like there's even a group of them that, like, hate phones. Like, they're like an actual throwback group, I think, because they saw what happened to the older group of them. And I think the offensive line position is a good indicator on where we are as a society. I think there's a chance that we could talk about that, especially if it's taking place. How many rookies did you say were playing like vets? Six offensive linemen. We had the Texans. We got the Jaguars. We got the Chiefs moving forward. Keelan Rutledge, one of my favorite linemen in this draft. Reminds me of Ryan Jensen. Ed Oliver buries him. Then you get the Jaguars. Emmanuel Pregnon, right? He's a big monster. Third-round pick. Fell to the third. Not sure why. Look at him moving people. Just moving people off the ball. And then we all heard about Khalil Benson from the Chiefs, right? You think he can play football? Watch the tape. Why does that happen, though, actually? What do you think it is? I know you had short arms. So that's one metric. Another one is, oh, well, he's a little stiff, so we don't know if he can do it. Or, oh, he can't pull. He can't pull and get out in space, so he doesn't fit this system. There's always one little thing. But at the end of the day, what I always say, turn on the tape. Can you play football? You can't sit there and just pick apart guys. At the end of the day, if you look at the film and their football's pretty good, they're probably going to be pretty good no matter what level you put them at. 8, 9 o'clock, right? 10 p.m. at night? Chiefs-Broncos, what the Chiefs did, and I don't know if you heard, but Trav told Jason Kelsey, also awesome to be a part of in the Monday Night Countdown and the New Heights podcast. Since Eric Biennium has been back, they've been talking about running through people's faces every single day, every single day, every single day. They set that tone early, and obviously Kenneth Walker feels like the perfect pickup. Are you all the way in on the Chiefs, or do you think maybe had their best night first night, and we shall see how it goes? There's just no way you can watch that game Monday night and not be all in on the Chiefs, and the reason I'm saying that is Patrick Mahomes wasn't even close to what he's going to be like midway through the season and even at the very end of the season. I was saying to somebody, we're sitting in that trailer throughout the course of the first half, and we're watching the game. Mahomes only threw four passes that went beyond 10 yards in the entire game. Only four attempts. None of them were completions, and they dominated the Broncos, so they were doing this, running the football down their throats without an explosive pass game. Nothing to back the defense up, and they still were doing this. It was disappointing just to watch how bad the Broncos tackled, but in order to do that, it was how well Kenneth Walker was running. The amount of guys that he made miss in a phone booth and kept his feet going was very impressive, man. Just where they're at, Mahomes coming back. We were there when he ran out of the tunnel. It was unbelievable the way the crowd erupted and to see him running for a touchdown and just having 15 back on the field, there's no way you can bet against the Chiefs right now. Yeah, and Kenneth Walker, whenever he came out of the tunnel, that was a cool little welcome to Kansas City moment for him, I would assume, and he certainly paid them back as their bell cow. Now, it wasn't just the Chiefs that were running the rock all over the place. Felt like there was a lot of 13 personnel, a lot of run, and J-Mac, as we all know in the football world, when he can run the ball well, what does that do to those linebackers? What does that do? That sucks them up, Jay. Yeah, it gets them sucked up, you know, because they just can't wait to get down in there. You know, they're getting sucked up. Now, on that note, Connor has a question for you. Yeah, Jason, it feels like across the board, like Pat just mentioned, offenses were just ahead of defenses, and it feels like we're not accustomed to that early on in the season. Do you see defenses catching up? Do you think it's one of those things where over the next few weeks, maybe by like week six, week seven, there's a chance that defenses kind of lock it down, figure out some of these teams, or do you think running the football in with how good quarterbacks are now, this might just be an offensive year, and there's a chance that defenses are going to be in for a long day with some of these teams? We damn sure better catch up from a defensive standpoint. I mean, the greatest Super Bowl of all time was a 13-3 game that happened a few years ago. Like, that's exciting football when you can see the chess match going on between the offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator. It was an embarrassment the way defenses played in week one, and it wasn't just bad defenses. Houston played bad. Denver played bad. The Rams struggled in Australia, so they have to bounce back. The only excuse I'm going to give is maybe there was so many new, I think it was 21 new offensive play callers in the NFL this year, so I'll give an excuse for week one. For us guys on defense, like, we need to prepare. We need all the information we possibly can gather. For these now new offensive coordinator, a lot of first-time play callers, you don't really know. You're chasing ghosts all offseason. So week one, that was the reason they had the upper hand. And then on top of that, like, we don't play in the preseason on defense, so we're not really tackling as well as we're going to get as the weeks go on. So, man, defenses have to catch up. I can't keep watching football where there's 60 points in the game, and guys are just doing dances in the end zone. Yeah, not only just dances in the end zone, 28 missed tackles for the Broncos, missed tackles across the board, and HemboStats says 166 plays were ran with three tight ends on the field in week one. That's the most in any week in recorded history. So, when you talk about big athletic bodies trying to move maybe a little bit smaller bodies on the defensive side, is the offense once again regaining an advantage over the size of human beings on either side of the ball? We shall see. If the defense does catch up, though, that 13-3 game, I think, is going to be much more common than what we saw this past weekend. I ain't trying to see that shit. That's what's about to happen. I ain't points. Yeah, me either. To hell with that, J-Mac. Points. 13 personnel? I mean, that's going to be a lot of. I mean, explosive runs could happen, but we're expecting the defense to start tackling better, right? I wonder if that doesn't even count all the 6-0 linemen stuff. Right? I don't know if that's even included in that 13 personnel. Jets had five tight ends on the field for one of their plays. Hey, Frank Reich kind of in his bag, actually. Go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Jason, I think it was maybe on Get Up this morning where you said like, hey, this isn't a fluke. Like, the Jets might be for real this year. You think that they've improved quite a bit. What is it about that game? Because obviously a lot of people are saying that the Titans might be hammered dog shit, and that could be a big reason, but what did you notice from the Jets tape and also the changes that maybe Aaron Glenn has had since being a first-year head coach last year? Well, first of all, leave my Titans alone. That's a bad outing, but don't refer to us like that. We're going to get better. It's a work in progress. What I like from the Jets was when you start to build in the offseason and you're starting to form an identity, what does it look like week one? And to me, they ran the football to Brees Hall, to Braylon Allen. They continue to do that. Geno Smith made a few big plays down the field. The rest of it was checkdowns, and they played good defense. They went out and they brought over veterans. The first play of the game, the Titans run the ball, and DeMario Davis is flying downhill, smacks somebody, and gets up screaming. To me, that's who the Jets want to be this year. And albeit the Titans struggle, the Titans, the first kickoff of the game, the Titans kicked a damn ball out of bounds. That's how it started. I didn't know that. Hold on, Jay. I didn't know that. It's worse than we thought. That's worse than we could have imagined. Specialists. What are we doing? Holy shit. No, let's not blame the Titans. Let's not blame the kickers. Colts aren't any better, I will say. We paid a lot more money, and we have a lot more continuity, and we look just as-as. But the Titans looked a lot worse than I think any of us thought it was going to look like. Now, a team that looked a lot better than I think a lot of us thought, but their fan base thought was certainly going to take place. Go ahead, D-Buck. Absolutely, J-Buck. We're not talking about the 0-2 Rutgers football team. Good luck this weekend. Oh, geez! Definitely not talking about those guys. But the New York football Giants, you're just talking about the Jets. Obviously, a brand new operation with the Giants. Offensively, Jackson Dart looked great. Dallas looked terrible. Even defensively, the Giants looked good as well. What's your thoughts on Jackson Dart and his New York Giants? Man, you get excited about them. Me and my guy, Peter Schrager, we were at training camp this summer, and we sat down with Pat Ricard after practice, and Pat Ricard said, we said, why did you come be a New York Giant? What was it about John Harbaugh? He said, Harbaugh called him and said, I'm trying to build a bully in the NFC East. That was bully ball on Sunday night. They punked the Cowboys, and this was the Cowboys team that all we talked about was new coordinator Christian Parker, all the new guys that they added. Caleb Downs is going to be rookie of the year, and all of these other things, and they just ran the ball right at them. To me, watching that game, what was fascinating offensively for them, they started the season and I was like, what is this offense going to look like? They have Matt Nagy, who was the offensive coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs, Greg Roman, who was the offensive coordinator a year ago with the Chargers, Brian Callahan, who was the head coach with the Titans and called the plays. You have all three of these guys on one staff. How the hell is this offense going to come together? Sunday night, it looked awesome. Jackson Dart throwing the ball from the pocket, over the middle, making those throws, but also getting in the gun, running the football, getting out of bounds, not taking a big hit. It was creative, but it also was just directly at you. Isaiah likely looked like he could be the best tight end in the NFL, just if he plays the Cowboys every week. Likely, John Harbaugh, allegedly, one of his first calls was to Isaiah likely whenever he went up to the New York Giants, said we need this guy, we're going to operate and use him in the same way that any other weapon at the tight end position is utilized. You are by far our number one, as opposed to Mark Andrews, Zay Flowers, Derek Henry, Lamar Jackson. You have an opportunity here to be our guy, and he showed up in a huge way in prime time. And remember, it was always like likely 80. The tweets were like, how many touchdowns is this guy going to score tonight? Likely 80. He always had those moments. Now it feels like it's about to be sustained focal point of the offense. And you mentioned the offensive coordinators. Who do they have over there? What do they have going on? They've got Callahan, they've got Roman, and they've got Nagy. Those are three former head coaches, all good offensive minds, except for Roman. Tell me how, he's a good offensive mind, not a head coach. Could you tell me how you think those three kind of fit together and why they help each other? The reason it works so well is because Greg Roman is a run game guru, and he's worked with Patrick Ricard. He understands that that's That's who he is. He likes fullbacks. He likes tight ends. So, cool, now you marry that up. Now you get the other one. two, and you can marry that up with the pass game. I think what has always made Greg Roman great is his run game, but what has been his biggest struggle is it never married up with the pass game. Think to whenever he was with Lamar Jackson. They didn't have a pass game that married up with the run game. Now you get these other two guys that say, okay, what do you want to do formations? What do you want to do with all your formations in the run game? Okay, cool. Now we can make those marry up and attach them to the pass game, just like you watch Shanahan and McVay do, because everything marries up. Everything looks the same. What is going to be an outside zone also is the play action, also is a screen, also is a deep shot. Now they do have photos of those couple of those guys up in the booth, and they're calling them the goof troop. That's what they're calling them. Disgusting brothers. Yeah, that's what they said. The disgusting brothers, which I'll tell you, I don't know if anybody's going to look good in the middle of the game whenever they're completely locked in up there, but will they all get along? Yeah, absolutely. And Callahan's dad is arguably the greatest offensive line coach that's ever been in this game, so he has an offensive line background from that world growing up in that world. You add him in the mix, he's an offensive mind, obviously. You mix him with the other two. As long as those three can coexist, I mean, this could be special. Okay, John Harbaugh making great decisions as soon as you get there. Cam Scadaboo being healthy and doing a backflip on a pile on. No, he knew exactly where he was at. He's got a big brain. People know that about Cam Scadaboo. Big head, for sure. Huge head, huge dome, huge opportunity, especially with Ricard running in front of him and Jackson Dart being smart. The thing I mentioned to J-Mac on Monday Night Cowboy, he's got a big brain. He's got a big face. He's got a big face. He's got a big face. He's got a big face. He's got a big face. With the way they played, it did feel like Jackson might be able to survive until his era of not having paint on his face, because that's going to disappear at some point. We don't know. Kids probably, we assume, whenever he gets rid of the paint on his face, but with this style of play, he's going to be able to make it to there, we think. We didn't know if he was going to. Yeah, I mean, you can't take away his legs. That's a part of it. You've got to have some design, run game, and obviously when things do break down in the pass game, you want to use those legs, but just take care of yourself. Take those shots. Your best ability is availability, especially as a quarterback, so I think he'll continue to learn that. You talked about all those coaches and all that knowledge, and he'll be hearing. And then those weapons on the outside, neighbors, he's not even back to fully himself once he gets to continue to come along. Then Isaiah Likely, I think we're just scratching the surface with him. It was some two-minute clips. They were in 12 personnel and just had him split out like a wideout, and that's a matchup mirror with him. So as long as they continue to get on the same page, I was shocked at how well he operated from the pocket, though, and just field throws. That likely throw across the middle of the field, the safety's coming down. He kind of put it on that back shoulder. That's like 10-year vet type stuff. So it was obviously some blown coverages, but blown coverages don't matter if the quarterback doesn't see him and take advantage of him. People always say a blown coverage, blown coverage. That happens a lot, and the quarterback just doesn't see it. So for him hitting those throws, being comfortable, and having a run game to lean on, and defensively being better than week one, I mean, I'm all in on the Giants right now. Yeah, they're fun to watch, and obviously three offense coordinators, I guess, better than one. Now, speaking of one offense coordinator, one's a super genius, and he was a head coach, and then he heads out to Los Angeles, and they look like ass. AQ has a question for you, J-Mac. Yeah, Jason, I was calling the game, and I got to watch the Chargers versus the Cardinals, and I'll tell you one thing that didn't look good was the Chargers offense. Can McDaniel and Herbert, can it work? That's a good question. I think so. You think about it, for McDaniel, he was there with Tua in Miami, and he found a way to make that work. We all know how talented Justin Herbert is. I also think the offense that McDaniel brings over is very different than what Justin Herbert is accustomed to running. The timing of it, the rhythm of it, getting the ball out of your hands extremely quick. There's a lot of trust that has to take place when you're trying to get a guy in the NFL that's had a ton of individual success, albeit it hasn't been from a team standpoint and playoff wins. But for Justin Herbert, he's a guy that we know has the talent to get it done. So I would say week one can lie to you. I don't want to assume that it's going to be all bad from an offensive standpoint. I was surprised that they weren't able to get the run game going as much. That was something that I thought McDaniel did an excellent job in Miami, that regardless how Tua was playing, whether he was blowing it up where he led the league in passing yards, I think that was in 2023 or a year ago, where he absolutely struggled. Devon Achan still had a fantastic season and got paid a lot of that because of the scheme in which McDaniel runs with Alec Ingold over there as a fullback. They brought in a tight end in Kohler. So I expected that at least to get going and be something that they could lean on, regardless of what went down on the outside. But they just struggled. And a ton of credit to the Arizona Cardinals, a team that we're like, they're going to be 32nd. They're going to be picking first overall. Why the hell would you draft a running back this high in the draft? They went out there one week. And don't look up, but Jacoby Brissett is leading the NFL in passing yards. Jacoby, my guy. Yeah, Jacoby's a beast. We saw him here in Indy only getting paid like $17 million as well. So that's very. Had to fight for it. Yeah, it's great for the roster. Mike LaFleur, we had him on the show yesterday. He's a psychopath, very evident, very clear psycho, which is what you're looking for at the head coaching position. And his offense looked damn good. We have some breaking news here, J-Mac, around the NFL. Joey Porter Jr. is slated to be a full participant today, which is obviously a positive sign to start this particular week, too. He had missed a lot of time because he was holding out, trying to get a new deal. Season starts. Pittsburgh Steelers say we are not negotiating during the season. Joey Porter Jr. was asked before week one if he thought he was going to play. He said, that's a question for the people upstairs and for my agents. We thought potentially never going to be seen as a Steeler again. Now he's full participant. What do you think this means, J-Mac? And how do you feel about how this situation has kind of all unfolded? Rather quietly, I must say, from a national attention standpoint. It has been quiet. This one is tough for me. I think Joey Porter is an excellent cornerback in our league. The challenge is, where does he slot in when you start to look at the top guys? Is he a $30 million guy when you look at Gonzalez and Witherspoon and McDuffie and those type of guys? Because the fact that Sertan's not in that group yet because he just hasn't got paid again, how do the Steelers figure out where he goes? It drops from like $30 straight to like $25. There isn't really anybody in that $27, $28 million range. So when you talk about trying to get a deal done with him, when you're looking at the annual per year, where does he feel comfortable? Does it have to be in that $30 million range? Because as I look at this from the outside in, I feel like there might be a hard number that they're just not able to settle on. And now the question comes in, is he willing to go out there and play without that deal? Because they're a different team with him on the field. They brought in. They brought in Jamel Dean, who's another tall, long, athletic cornerback to go on the outside with him. You have those two guys out there, like you're going to feel really good about playing man-to-man and playing press up in guys' faces. Every single one of these clips, he is mugged up on a guy and harassing him. That's the type of play that they'll get from both of those guys when they're on the field. We don't need that clip there at the end against Colts. Obviously, we should be picking and choosing different ones, if that is certainly a possibility. But Joey Porter Jr. and the Pittsburgh Steelers, may be closer to rekindling and having him on the field. Or maybe this is a show to everybody else. Hey, he is healthy. You know, if they're going to try to trade, if that is still the conversation. Kind of pumped to see what the Pittsburgh Steelers and Joey Porter Jr. land on because they do a lot of stuff that they haven't done for a long time over recent years. They paid DK Metcalf $30 million a year. He never played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's a wide receiver. That's very rare for the Pittsburgh Steelers to do that. Obviously, bringing in Aaron Rodgers, very rare move. Negotiating during the season, though, they've come out and said, we haven't done it. We're never doing it. Don't even think about it. Joey Porter Jr. is like, well, I'm thinking about it. So, we need to figure that one out. We need to figure that one out. And obviously, the Porter family in Pittsburgh is held in high regards. He's a great player. They're undefeated. They're going for it. And if your front four can get there, TJ Watt just won AFC Defensive Player of the Week. He obviously has a pick six and everything else that he's got going on. Cam Hayward's been playing out of his mind. Somehow, he's gotten younger over the last couple years. Herbig, I believe, and Highsmith, they're on the field for like 20-some plays. It's the most they've ever been on the field. been on the field together because they're rotating, it's like Steelers got something special potentially brewing. Now, offensively, they're going to have to be a little bit better, but Joey Porter Jr. back there certainly helps with it all. AJ has a question about an AFC North team that found its way onto our shite division, J-Mac. Yeah, unfortunately, he's talking about the Cleveland Browns. From you, I know you spent some time there. Do Cleveland Browns fans have any hope for this team? I guess, let's say six, eight weeks from now, what does that team look like? What does that offense look like? This is the shite division as we stand right now. You can get promoted out of here and relegated into here all season long, J-Mac. Hey, Pat, it's tough seeing that Super Bowl winning Colts team there where they got to get to, so they got to find a way out of the shite division. AJ, the Browns were rough. Watching them, you were waiting just to make it. It was 31-0. Somehow, you figure they're going to make a play at some point. I think Todd Munkin said it after the game, though. It wasn't just Deshaun Watson. That gets all the headlines. They were bad on both sides of the ball, equally. Liam Cohen and Trevor Lawrence, they went up and down the field as they wanted to. I don't know where the hope comes for Cleveland Browns fans. You think about the last few years when Miles Garrett was there and Jim Schwartz was calling the defense. They were always good on that side of the ball. They just weren't good enough on offense. That was just abysmal. Watching it, it never got better. It wasn't until the absolute end when the game was over, when I'm coaching my son's team, and when you just start subbing everybody in because it's a blowout, then they made a few plays and actually got on the board. It was rough. It was certainly ugly. Nobody would have expected that from the Cleveland Browns you know and uh Monkens boys yeah Deshaun Watson came out and said media expects me to throw 500 yards five touchdowns every week so they got their own expectations you know so everybody gotta eat shit he said yeah yeah he said today he said I think the media has this expectation I'm supposed to throw for like 400 yards and five touchdowns every week maybe just a hundred and maybe one you know maybe maybe that's one of those things that'll kind of get going but granted that's his first start in over 600 uh days you know and that's why like when it was all happening everything was happening he was away for the game when he traded all that stuff it's like can you be away at the quarterback position with the way he played which was very uh intuitive and also incredibly athletic and all that can you just miss years and years of football and then just get dropped back in there I don't know I think it would take a very very special especially with the amount of money we know he's getting paid so you can certainly get comfortable on satin sheets and shit like that it's like I don't know I don't know if that's ever going to be found again you know I don't know if we're ever going to dig deep into into that soul and find what he was whatever he was a potential MVP candidate with the Houston Texans but I'll tell you what has him said we're going to find out though yeah yeah we are we are certainly going to find out last question uh from a team that I think you know absolutely decimated a small cheese town let's go to calling unbelievable defenses from Minnesota Vikings what are your thoughts on that matchup this weekend against Ben Johnson and one of the best offensive minds against one of the best defensive coordinators uh in the NFL that's the that's the matchup I'm looking forward to most you have a defensive coordinator that blitz 80 percent of the time in week one against Jordan Love 80 percent is insane and I think what I love most about it and D-Bud you can appreciate this they're not even playing man-to-man behind it's not like he's just leaving guys on an island they're still playing Zone with eyes on the quarterback and you have that going against Ben Johnson who just put up 59 points and wants to lead the NFL and scoring a season ago they opened up and these two teams played against each other Flores but barely bliss in that game and I think it was fear of the unknown not knowing what Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams offense was going to look like that second matchup he sent the house and it was a normal Flores blitzing style of game back or run around they're gonna want pressure in his face and force him to make quick decisions don't give them all that time try to fool them with disguise and all of the different things but his defense has been unbelievable it's unorthodox like you watch and you try to figure out the rules of what they're doing you're like this doesn't make any sense and having Harrison Smith back there is huge because you need somebody on the field that can communicate the same way flow is communicating to those guys in the meeting room JJ Watts said they are in real time deciding the charges they want to use with how the offense looks the players are on the field so whenever you say they're doing things that don't make any sense it's like I think that because the front and the back do not match and I think that is what they're expecting and hoping for if they're already doing that week one that's only going to get better right you would assume oh yeah and that was kind of one of the things playing for like Belichick like you always had to be able to adjust and plan for B flow obviously the same thing you got to be able to adjust not only as you know a week to week but between drives you know and we get that iPad or whatever the surface on the sideline like hey let's do it this way or this is the flavor of the week on third down so when you're playing against this defense you got to stay ahead of the sticks and Ben Johnson obviously he wants to run the football you got to stay in third and threes third and fours once you start getting those third and 11s and third and 12s like now you really in trouble because he can do absolutely anything you talk about having these smart veteran players on the field who can also adjust to certain looks hey this is a near okay they switch to far okay these are the numbers so I mean it's going to be the season with these two guys it literally looks like backyard football whenever uh we're just like what are we doing blitzing okay what do you mean all of us we're just going that's what their defense looks like every single play and Jordan lovers just got sick of it it seemed like it just seems like he got absolutely sick big difference too as a DB like J Max said we're not just zero just asked that like all right we're pressuring if you don't get home we're one-on-one if I don't get you know burden on the ground it's out the gate like when we have a little shell on it so we know pressure is coming but I can still play with some eyes I can still jump some crazy so this year it might be the most impactful version of this particular thing that we've been doing for years preparing for this moment maybe you know because last couple years who cares everybody said yeah kind of this year it feels like it's going to matter more than ever ladies and gentlemen it's time to get back in the game it's time to go in the trenches with AQ Shipley with our top five offensive lines of week one let's start with 5AQ the Detroit Lions welcome back to the top five offensive lines Detroit Lions why then why now heck yeah 165 yards rushing new offensive line they move Sewell over to the left they got a rookie at right tackle and Blake Miller let's take a look at this they're going against the New Orleans Saints if we can pause this right before the snap so here Let the linebackers move over. There it is. You see that right there? And then you see the end man on the line of scrimmage there, D-Butt? Yep. What's that telling you? Blitz is coming, right? So if you watch Pene Sewell. So there, once that guy moves inside on the left guard, now Pene Sewell knows, hey, two's coming outside. Watch him take two for one. This is incredible. Boom, boom. Opens up the huge hole. Ben Bartsch and the rest of the boys just push everything front side. And you just hit that thing a million miles an hour. So you're telling me that Pene Sewell was able to shed, basically, and then get to his next block while blocking both guys? He was also bouncing around. Was Pene Sewell bouncing around, Foxy? Yeah, if you remember last year, Pene Sewell was right tackle. He moves to left tackle. But in this game, he went left tackle. He went right side. He went left side. He went right side. Kewsh, what the hell's going on? And how did he do on the left side? Because I know that's very hard for a tackle to do. Well, did you see what he just did? It looks like he did good, Foxy. Welcome to In the Trenches, top five. Yeah, I mean, he was basically Tristan Wirfs. I mean, he made that transition smooth as can be. Two of the top five in the league. Being able to go from right to left is not as easy as most people think, and he did it seamlessly. But here's the deal. Every time it was a short yardage or goal line situation, whether it was third and one, fourth and one, or goal to go, they put him at the right side at the point of attack and hit downhill plays. It was incredible to watch. Basically, you knew where the ball was going once he moved from left to right, and it didn't matter. He still moves them off, and they're able to get touchdowns. Okay, so is it tackle over? Tackle over is what they're doing, or did they just bring in another tackle, move him to wherever we're trying to run it? So they flipped sometimes, and then other times, they leave Blake Miller at right tackle, put him at tight end. So he's basically the extra O-lineman then goes in at left tackle. Here's the interesting thing. If they don't get it in that goal-to-go situation, he has to come out of the game because technically he's the tight end. Or they have to run the same exact formation. Okay, well, Penny Sewell, first draft pick of this particular regime. Love that he's still a massive piece of it. Good to see the Detroit Lions. Back on the top 5-0 Lions, which is where they're supposed to be. Let's go to the number 4 offensive line. Congratulations, Monday Night Football Zone. Can't say cheese. Can't say cheese. Go ahead, AQ. Yeah, listen, I could have showed a million plays, but I love what Andy Reid does. He leans on Chris Berman. Pulling a play. Boom. 1930 or something like that. They got Patrick Mahomes in a three-point stance. You got an offset back in a three-point stance. You got Travis Kelsey coming back. Let's watch this defense. Let's pause. You're right there. Look at the DB. Go back, go back, go back. Go back just half a thing. Yeah, watch the DB. The DB has no idea where this ball is going. They're running counter back to the right with all the misdirection to the left. Play, play. And right there, 22 has no idea where the ball is. He gets his first chance to be the bell cow, and he does a great job. I love that they went unbalanced line right there, too. So they moved the line over, and they get the tight end over there on the right. It was awesome. They were planning on punching people in the mouth from the offseason. They certainly did that to the Broncos. Let's go to number three offensive line. Congratulations, Don Under, San Francisco 49ers. They punished the Rams. AQ says maybe it's because of the offensive line. Well, Kyle Shanahan's maybe the most prepared coach in the NFL. He had these boys prepared, but let's take a look at this. If I can set this up real quick. Obviously, Trent Williams is circled. That's who it starts with. But look to the right, right? You've got Luke Farrell, and you've got Kyle Juszczyk in a Y and F, right? So we're going to send Juszczyk in motion. As we send him in motion, it brings the DB back into the box, and then we get everything pushed frontside. Design cutback with Y and F going backside, and look at Trent Williams just handle the second level. It's incredible. Okay, so they're forcing the defense to fall right into what they want to do. Absolutely, and with that little motion with Juszczyk, it brings them back in. Well, guess what that does? Nobody really talks about this as much. Everybody just talks, okay, we've got two double teams. But guess what else we're doing? We're able to hang on those double teams longer because it's bringing people back to you. Okay, so Juszczyk does a banana boat run. Everybody's saying the banana hammock is a little bit of cheating. Do we think we're going to see a lot of this or no? We are going to see a lot of this. I mean, they started to do it a lot last year, and they can do so many different things. It's not just sending them back that time. Then they got the play action. Then they start them one way, and they run the toss back to the right. It's a million things. Let's go to the number two offensive line coming out of week one of the NFL season. Congratulations, Baltimore Ravens. We saw it. We saw it. Yeah, we saw it. No offensive player of the week for the Baltimore Ravens. Could have had three of them, including the running back. What did you see, AQ? Wow, this is a great play, and I love this. This is escort motion. So we're going to send 80 across the line, snap the ball while he's on the fly. But check out, John Simpson, the left guard, just leaves the guy for him. 80 de-cleats him. Watch this. This is the hardest thing when you get line movement when you're running this. Boom, gets him. And you look at the top there, it's like Oregon, at the top of the food chain, money-wise, which we all expect and understand. Not a great start. - No. - Not a great start, obviously. So I think that's something you're gonna be judged upon. Ohio State Buckeyes, obviously full investment out of the state of Ohio, we know that. They lose in Austin. So you got two of the teams at the very top who obviously have L's already on the board two weeks into this, and you start to wonder, what does the future roster look like? What does the future cap look like? And what does the future of these coaches look like? Not saying Lanning or anybody's in trouble, but this is what you're gonna be judged off of, especially when it's the boosters who are making a lot of the decisions, and it's the boosters who are giving a lot of the money that they're seeing, once again, I keep saying Oregon, lose to Oklahoma State. And it's like that, this brings a whole new element to pressure and how hot seats can get and everything like that. And if your team's down there at the bottom, I think you're thinking to yourself, okay, I'm looking for another sport to follow. Okay, I think that's potentially how you, what do you mean? - Not everybody. - What do you mean? Who's down there at the bottom? I didn't even see. - Hawks, Hawks rosters, you know, right around 18 to $21 million a year. So they're kind of wading in those very, very shallow waters, but they make it work. This year they're even worse. I thought in baseball, if you spent the most amount of money, you win. That's kind of what the entire thing is about. - No, not typically. If you're a loser franchise, like the Mets are, for whatever reason, it just, it just doesn't, it doesn't work. And they play in a very tough division. That's part of it. But the idea, yes. The idea is that if you spend more money than everybody else and get kind of the best players that you will win. But that's also a big part is you need to spend the most money while getting the right players, not just spending a bunch of money on players who aren't really gonna help you. - AJ, you and I come from cities in which in baseball franchises, not that I was a fan, but you were, they're down there near BC and Duke. You know, whenever you talk about the athletic scale of what these rosters are, this is seemingly pointing out like, hey, who's probably gonna be, and who's probably not, which I think is the whole conversation about like, hey, we got to put some sort of something on what the future is because the top end here, they're going to be able to go whatever this, the top end is going to be able to be bottomless pit, bottomless bowl of soup and breadsticks. Okay. This is all of garden. They're able to go whatever it is, whatever the playing field is, they'll be able to get to everybody down here. Are they going to move or are they going to stay here? And then do we fall into the MLB situation, which is why trying to get floor cap on this entire conference. - Look how much it's jumped when Ohio state won the national championship, people were going crazy because they had what, like a $30 million roster that year. That was what, two years ago, three years ago. And it's almost doubled already. So like, yeah, it's it, the, the line between the have and the have nots has been emboldened like crazy. And until we get some sort, like who's to say that, you know, let's say Oregon doesn't win or whatever this year. And they, they don't have the best year. Like who's to say they're not going to have an $80 million roster next year to make sure like, hey, we can't have what happened last year happen this year. - Which any team could have if they have a booster who has billions of dollars and would like your team to have success, which is what a lot of people are saying, like, hey, don't we need some sort of something here? Because some of these schools, you know, they don't have a billionaire or maybe a trillionaire looking to have their team win. So shouldn't we put some sort of protection on it? Then you hear the agents come out in the NAACP and they're like, it seems like everything's hunky dory right now, what do we, it's just like the MLBPA, just like what the baseball players are saying. Ratings are bigger than they've ever been. We're saying this is a problem. This is how this is. Why would we change it? It's like, well, I think everybody that's actually around the sport and college sports as a whole is like, is this sustainable? A professional operation certainly is, but this is money coming from people that are getting no money in return. This is just like, hey, a good, I don't want to say goodwill. - Pretty much. - But kind of like a goodwill and some schools at the top are going to be able to be there forever and some aren't. Is that what we want? That's for other people. - That's for other people to figure out. That is for other people to figure out, but it does seem like a lot of people say, hey, this divide is going to get pretty big. it whenever if it continues to grow the way it is and that's just college football a lot of teams from the South spending some money up there see yeah I like that they're getting into the game you know Ole Miss obviously from watching blindside we know they have a lot of money yeah right we know that that is certainly a team that it's able to get up in there Texas A&M we know that they got a lot of cash out there but if you have success that money continues that's just like University of Houston I think they got a lot of money down there if they were to hit on a couple things not saying they didn't hit what the swang is coming out you know I'm saying with the fucking thing he's on the wheels which is sweet yeah allegedly that was a last-minute audible because something else was supposed to happen and then they'd get fell through and like fucking call trill whatever the swing is our swing is out here roll that thing out there allegedly from one particular source after we talked about it before but if you're one of these schools down the bottom and you get a booster or a couple boosters that give you some money and you hit on it then there's a chance to go but if you get money and you waste it it's probably going the other way and there's going to be a lot more of those stories than there are the Indiana stories you know because Indiana what they were talking about well they got all this money from Mark Cuban it's like no Mark Cuban is not the main driver in that but Mark Cuban we've all seen smart investor do you think he's still going to fork over whatever dollar it is if the team's losing and he's getting nothing in return other than his school uh potentially having a chance at football it's like yeah right you give that money you have success all of a sudden the boosters are like yes we would like to continue to do this and you can kind of go from the bottom ladder to the bottom tier up to the top but once again there's going to be a lot more people that miss with money than hit with money so how long does this last I that is the question I guess that is being discussed everywhere these days I mean look at Penn State Penn State was at the top of the ladder last year now they're just middle of the table they're right next to Wisconsin you wonder that's probably one of those schools where if Matt Campbell proves it you're going to see them in in the upper echelon at the upper tier but right now because of the Franklin debacle because all the money they spent that panned out for nothing you know they kind of have to drop down a little bit and figure it out before going all the way back in on football and this isn't even talking about the other sports that are happening you're talking about Penn State they invest in their hockey team obviously the pagula family invest big time in the hockey team basketball there are some rosters that are gigantic baseball softball and I think uh you know the future of college sports could be better than ever yeah especially if they're able to figure this all out but it also could get pretty crazy in the the difference between who's where this is a good article from the athletic hey that's good for ball thank you we don't know if it's real though obviously none of these contracts are public so something that is real in public up there on that list top of that list University of Miami oh yeah going back to Nike thank God I think that's the last thing the S&P 500 I think last month so yeah it's it's getting stinky over there business-wise so I'd like to see them getting back into college ball you know whenever um for me kicker punter there's a lot of uh thought as a soccer player free kick taker it's like I'll be able to do this I'll be able to do this I don't have to worry about the fundamentals that much it's like hey put the ball down I'll put it through the thing then you realize in this massive moments like you need some fundamentals you know can't just be freestyling it in a lot of big type of moments it's like I guess we should have some sort of system or technique here that we can fall back upon so then obviously the practice reps pick up for me and I feel like what happens to all that's a high pressure situation you fall back
