Hello beautiful people and welcome to our humble abode the DraftKings Thunderdome on this football's the greatest Tuesday September 15, 2026 this sports program begins now. Football is incredible week one of the NFL slate wrapped up last night at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri as the Chiefs proved that they is still the Chiefs. The Chiefs went crazy last night. Now Kenneth Walker being added to this team I think is a special addition. This could take us back a couple years where the Kansas City Chiefs had a run game and a powerful defense and Patrick Mahomes had to basically learn how to not be a quarterback that wants to throw the ball all the time. Hand a ball off defense will get you stuff and then when we have a big third down or a late fourth quarter we need to drive Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelsey would make their magic. Well turns out it looks like they got the same script for this particular season and this guy K-9 obviously Super Bowl MVP had 221 carries for the Seattle Seahawks last year. magnificent run with them, leads them to a Super Bowl, gets the MVP, then he's out of the building. And you think to yourself, well, they had Charbonnet, they had a couple other running backs. Was Kenneth Walker really that impressive? Why do the Chiefs love him so much? Well, what we found out is the Chiefs love him because they're going to give the ball every single time. They handed the ball off to him. They threw the ball to him. Whenever Patrick Holmes was looking for things, he found K-9. They had another back that was able to spell him a little bit. But with Kenneth Walker, Eric Bien-Ami being back in the building too, I think he's kind of hard-nosed, tough, trenches-type guy. If you listen to what they're saying in that locker room, that team was so fun to watch. Patrick Holmes didn't even complete a pass over 10 yards. Now, Travis Kelsey goes for 57. Yes, he did. And I just so happen to be watching that particular catch with the entire Kelsey Swift family. Nice. It was an incredibly hot box, loaded box, excited box, enthusiastic box, bought-in box. And watching him do that was awesome. You know, because there was a lot of questions. Travis, you know, last season wasn't his best season. Obviously, he's another year older. He's about to be 37 years old. Is he still going to be a weapon? Well, broke some tackles, strided out, was obviously open for Patrick whenever he needed it. And you know what? A lot of people said a couple years ago, maybe get to the end zone. I don't know. I don't know if he does. I think he looked fast. I think he looked incredibly strong, confident, and comfortable in that offense. So, if Patrick Mahomes is only going to play better, which we assume is going to happen, and then he looked pretty good. Yeah. Yes, it did. When he got intro'd last night, it was cool to be a part of the pregame festivities. Shout-out to everybody for allowing me to be a part of Monday Night Countdown. That show was cool to be a part of. Excited to get the flow of that. And, you know, celebrate what the weekend it was and the game that's coming. And the way Scott Van Pelt operates is cool to watch. I mean, he's obviously a legend in the game. Jason McCourty, incredible. He was absolutely phenomenal. Jason Kelsey, his energy is the greatest. And also, one of the best offensive linemen to ever play football. And then Swagoo, I don't think people know how big Swagoo is. I was walking behind him up the tunnel. So, we get kicked off the field after Monday Night Countdown. Okay, easy. Not allowed to be honest. Games on ESPN! I know. So, like, we're supposed to. We've got the halftime show coming up, you know. But we get kicked off the field, basically. So, you know, like, hey, you guys need to get the hell out of here. So, there's a bus RV. Shout out to Blue Compass RV. I think we gave credit to it in the Monday Night Countdown thing and that popped up on the screen. I was like, shout out Blue Compass RV. Getting a little bit of a run here. But they have an incredible bus. So, we kind of get kicked off the field until two minutes left to go do the halftime show. And then we got to get back off the field, please, or whatever. That was interesting. I found that very interesting. You got the owner in the show. I know. It was an interesting. I'm learning a lot. I'm learning a lot here. I'm like, can we watch the kickoff? I gotta get off the field. Get your ass off the field. I'm like, well, I'm doing the National Anthem. I need to hear the. That was electrifying. The flyover. So incredible. Flyover. We have that bomber flying over. There's a little prop plane above it. Oh. Okay, like one of those ones that flies like a flag behind it. Didn't have a flag behind it. It was just kind of flying over. So, I'm watching this thing. Oh, yes. And I go this way, and I see this little prop plane. I had a bomber flying under a prop plane out there. Okay, that was just like kind of a mind-blowing experience in that. But then the way their fans delivered, that felt like a college atmosphere. That felt like a college atmosphere. That guy crushed the absolute hell out of the National Anthem. Placed one crazy whenever they showed him on the board. I guess he's probably done it before and has nailed it every single time. But, yeah, that bomber flying over. The Chiefs' kingdom going absolutely absurd. Broncos fans were in the building as well. They were very loud. It felt special in there. Now we get summoned off the field. Get the hell out of here. It's like, all right, okay, cool. Would be nice to be able to watch this baby. Okay, we'll go up to the bus. I'm walking behind Swagoo. Holy shit. House. This guy. Yeah. I mean, he is this wide, this tall. He's just casually walking. He's got like maybe the greatest attitude I've ever been around. I don't think anybody's ever seen him down. Obviously, one of the best fathers of all time. But whenever you look at that set, I just couldn't help but look around. I'm like, that guy is, first round draft pick. This guy, Hall of Famer. Jason McCourty, absolute stallion. Super Bowl, everything about him is incredible. And then Scott Van Pelt's a goat. It's like, I am so lucky and thankful to be there for all of it. And getting a chance to chat about that game beforehand and then seeing it kind of unfold. It's fun week one, you know, to kind of guess what a team's going to do. But now, are we in the position that we know teams? Like, are the Broncos dead because Davis Webb is calling plays? Well. You know, and Miss Laura at halftime goes, how was that first half? Not calling plays. He goes, ask me after another half. And they have the worst performance that a Sean Payton offense has had in like, whatever, 100 years or whatever the case is. I think that amount of yards that they've had has only happened one other time in the history of a Sean Payton offense. So Davis Webb is certainly going to have the eyes of Sean Payton upon him for the entire length of this. But Sean Payton told us, whenever we talked to him at the Combine, he basically said like, I think he's about a year or two away from being a coordinator, but the rest of the league maybe, one of them in there. Here's from Sean Payton at the Combine. I think this young coach, and I say young, Davis Webb is something. And sure, it's funny, the timeline that when you have a young coach like a Joe Brady or a Declan Doyle or any of these guys that I've been fortunate enough to hire when they're young coaches, like what you think is their timeline of success, position coach, coordinator, head coach, is always two years behind what the league sees. It's much quicker. What the league sees, is the rest of the league trying to hire your guy to potentially do something. And it seemed as if he was alluding to like, I made the move for Davis Webb because some other team wanted him to be a coordinator and I was a big fan of his. After last night's performance, do we give more credit to Spaggs in the Kansas City Chiefs defense? Or do we have to question how this offense is going to be? We saw Bo Nix lead the number one seed, AFC seed team, Denver Broncos last year. He looked great. There was moments where Bo Nix looked like a bona fide quarterback. Now, obviously wasn't as consistent at the quarterback, obviously there was some stuff that he had to continue to grow, but he's a young quarterback. Maybe he'd be able to do that. You bring in a brand new play caller for him. Is this going to stunt the growth of Bo Nix? Is this going to change the entire Denver Broncos future? Is this a decision that Sean Payton's going to regret? That's what everybody is immediately talking about. But I think we should maybe give a little credit to Kansas City Chiefs defense too. I mean, the way they played was outrageous. So last night, my big takeaway, Chiefs is still the Chiefs. Denver Broncos certainly have to wonder about that play calling position of Davis Webb. How long does that last? Does Sean Payton just kind of let that happen as he's standing on the sideline? We shall see. Everybody's wondering that question. And I think the Chiefs defense is for real, which is a run game and a defense. And Patrick Mahomes, are the Chiefs all the way back to getting to the mountaintop? Nine-year NFL vet D-Bud is here. Your thoughts on kind of my takeaway from last night? And do you agree or disagree on that with the Denver Broncos maybe just running into a stout Chiefs defense? Yeah, that's definitely part of it. I mean, imagine your first test being against a multiple-time Super Bowl champ, Steve Spagnola. He's rebuilding that defense, especially in the first half. And then the secondary loss, you know, didn't have any starting experience, basically, starting last night. You saw the rookie get his pick, Delane, early in the game. But yeah, I think it was a tough test. And look, Sean Payton, he has the trust in his young guys. Sometimes we see the promotion within or elevation in money, how much they're getting paid, or elevation in responsibility. So obviously he trusts him. He likes him. Now, how long is that leash? You know, and I mean, even above Sean Payton, which obviously Sean Payton is running the show, but you think about that ownership group and you go out and hire Sean Payton, and you pay him all that money, you hire him because he has been a wizard of a play caller. We've seen this done before. D'Amico Ryan, he gave up play calling duties as well. He's a great play caller in Houston. So we've seen it done before, but when you have the expectations that you have in Denver, you want to see that quarterback, you want to see Bo Nix continue to evolve, continue to get better. So yeah, those are fair questions. This is a tough test. And maybe it's like how we do with players. Maybe it's the first quarter of the season, then we reevaluate things. We know sometimes these coaches are impatient. Maybe it is two games. Like, hey, if you don't get your shit together, we'll have a Dan Campbell situation where he's taking over play calling. So we shall see. Something to definitely keep an eye on, but I think all fair questions after week one. Yeah, and I was so impressed with the Chiefs defense because they had young guys in multiple positions. Obviously, that was going to be a question mark going in, and I assume Davis Webb was like, we're going to find out, we're going to find out. D'Alene gets a pick on the first play. Yeah. I mean, he gets hurt on that. That sucks. Gets tackled like a quarterback in that entirety, but what a phenomenal play. Third and 11 obviously gets a pick early. Place goes crazy. I don't even know if we were out of the tunnel yet. Don't think I saw this play, but it was certainly awesome as we were walking out, getting escorted. We can't even walk. You're trying to have a bag over your head. We can't walk. I was so flustered. I was very intrigued by that entire series of events, but I will say what that defense did last night, I think put a lot of Kansas City Chiefs fans kind of worries to a little bit of ease. Patrick Mahomes as well with how he was moving. When he gets introduced into the stadium, let alone Benton, okay, left tackle. Yeah, see. Drafted rookie left tackle out of Indiana. He played right tackle, right guarding. camp hey congratulations you're starting left tackle a position you haven't played since high school for Patrick Mahomes yeah this guy gonna be greatest of all time in your rookie season not drafted just a few I don't know how this guy slips through the cracks by the way I know we got the draft process all figured out we all have so many different ways to look at it and maybe there's something that we don't know yeah how does an undrafted rookie end up being the starting left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes and have a night that's seemingly quiet yes nobody nobody even notices you had to show up at minicamp and say hey I hope you'll sign me 6-6-3-30 national champion who could play right guard right tackle and left tackle what super genius I guess all teams like that just kind of slipped through the crack I have no idea how that happens but when he gets introduced onto the field I mean it was uh I was like golly this guy doesn't look scared at all confident and then Travis Kelsey comes out obviously the place he rubs last first home opener potentially you know in that entire and then Patrick Mahomes his last home opener and then he's like oh my god I'm gonna be the first home opener in my life you know in that entire and then Patrick Mahomes his last home opener and then Patrick Mahomes his last and he comes out flexing okay he comes out flexing it's like okay and then he starts bouncing like back and forth almost it's like is he testing me right now like as he's going out there is he kind of seeing what it is there was zero hesitancy nope there was zero like fall off there was zero like limping it felt like and his mindset mentality was like I I need to go get it right now so I enjoyed the hell out of watching Patrick Mahomes play football I was very lucky and thankful to be an arrowhead and uh I think the Chiefs are still the Chiefs and I think people are going to have to deal with them the rest of the way now one game how much can you judge did the Broncos play ass did the Chiefs play out of their mind did they get some good bounces did Denver Broncos not get the best bounces long season I think Chiefs is only getting better I assume the Broncos are as well they're better did they tell you 28 missed tackles yeah did the Broncos tell you beforehand on the field that they weren't going to tackle anybody last night like you know what I realized this is an interesting thing a lot of guys when they didn't have their uniforms on and they were warming up boy I had no idea who the fuck anybody helmets sure yeah helmets are crazy I started no no helmets no no I mean like just like watching NFL when they always have an NFL or a helmet on oh yes yes I'm saying like it's numbers yeah so the only reason why numbers names yeah I need a number I need something out there just I saw Cortland Sutton and the only reason why I knew that is because JC Kelsey says that Cortland Sutton he looks like a stallion this guy is just an abs you forget everybody's a monster like everybody out there is a monster an absolute monster and then each Jack guy I didn't know which guy was which guy so I was dapping up a couple people tell them they're gonna have a great season turns out they were just a equipment manager everyone part of the team I gotta figure that out though I gotta start reading through the program but no I had no heads up that they weren't gonna be able to tackle anybody this this Denver Broncos defense was the staple of the Denver Broncos this Denver Broncos defense was the story of the Denver Broncos they led the NFL in sacks the last two years so you would think with a hobbled Patrick Mahomes with a left tackle that wasn't drafted just a couple months ago has never played the position since high school that the Denver Broncos would feast instead maybe coach Tomlin what he said on Sunday Night Football is kind of ringing true here over this first week and how long should we expect this to potentially last with defenses just not being physical yeah first couple weeks you got to get acclimated to tackling against we talked about it here when AJ was here to reiterate that Mike Tomlin point the only time we take guys to the ground the only time you're live tackling once you get to the ground is when you're going to be able to tackle if you get in the National Football League is on game day so now you haven't tackled all off season now you got to go out there and tackle Kenneth Walker or Rasheed Rice or Travis Kelsey in the open for Patrick Mahomes in the open field and that's that's very very difficult to do but I mean 28 missed tackles according to next gen stacks unacceptable uh Kenneth Walker will be responsible for 14 of those he's obviously dynamic Super Bowl MVP you mentioned it Eric being to me being back in the building and as they get you know Patrick Mahomes back up to speed first year he hasn't played in preseason and the timing the thing it just didn't look right in the past game especially early but we only expect that to get better we talked about it yesterday with Joe Burrow the bangles winning despite Joe Burrow not playing great same thing the Chiefs you should be more worried if you're not a Chiefs fan to see these guys go out and win with 15 not playing his best ball the run game accounted for 56 of the Kansas City's yardage yesterday which is the highest percentage in a Patrick Mahomes game college or pro that's a hembo stat shout out to him and it was obvious at the beginning I mean yeah yeah boom they can't stop it boom right back to him and it was like that Chiefs place oh there's another whenever Kenneth got introduced yeah it was a awesome welcome to the city and then it was a great welcome to the team by Andy Reid and the enemy just to hand him the ball I think they they gave a big loud announcement to the NFL hey the reason why we signed the Super Bowl MVP is because we're gonna go back to we're gonna we're gonna try to pound the hell out of you yeah and I like that they're taking that stance at this stage because that's what the rest of the NFL is doing too well we had more 13 personnel this year or this weekend than we had seen in a long time run game under center run game has become more prolific just a couple years ago everybody was shotgun spinning all over the place then Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles lead the NFL in rushing they had more rush yards and pass yards and we felt a little bit of a turn of the tide going back to the old school football and now we're fully entrenched in it and we're seeing more points than ever before yeah I think it's a nice little mold of the high line offense and then the power football of the past feels like we've landed in a beautiful little spot now well the defense is after they're able to tackle people and realize that the regular season has started yeah okay will they be able to catch up to what this offense is now with the pounding the pounding the pounding will we get super boring football games week six through like week 13 whenever the defenses are all in their prime and offense are just kind of stalemating into each other there's a chance but week one showed us offensive football is alive and well in the NFL and there's an old school sense to it as well con man yeah it's electric I mean anytime you're getting points points points you're gonna love it I mean the amount of running backs who scored multiple touchdowns it can kind of go through some of them on mine but like Henry Walker Gibbs uh DeAndre Swift I think had three touchdowns like the running back explosion is coming and it's kind of awesome because then maybe those contracts will go up but if you are a Denver Broncos fan probably panicking today but like we just mentioned their defense missed the most tackles in the history of football probably they're gonna be okay their offensive line how many times was it happening where spags had eight guys right in front of them on the line of scrimmage kind of playing that mind game with Davis Webb it feels like Davis Webb he'll figure it out and I don't know if uh the Waltons are gonna make a call to Sean Payton and say hey if you don't start calling plays tomorrow we're gonna have to figure something out here because we just built you this new project facility and the team looks like absolute but that's the other part of it too for the Broncos like Waddle and Knicks never really got on the same page we heard about Waddle all offseason how great he's going to be feels like that's going to develop I don't think him or Cortland Sutton had a catch in the first quarter damn near the first half so the Broncos as bad as they looked it did feel more so like we forgot how good the Chiefs are how good spags is as a DC in general how good Andy Reid is to pivot his team in use the offensive line so I think if you're a Broncos fan you're going to be a Broncos fan you're okay okay I I hope so I hope I don't know yeah I genuinely hope so or at least the gap is you know I mean Scott brought it up uh last night when I said hey the Denver Broncos were 11-2 last year in one score games yeah that's all that's like a big time football God's blessing to you for a year that normally finds its yes it does that does kind of offset every once in a while and I think it's what Scott was trying to say I hope that doesn't happen to the Denver Broncos but I think the past has told us like I think it's going to happen to the Denver Broncos but I think the past has told us like whenever you get super duper blessed and get lucky bounces in these one score games which most NFL games are normally the the level is found on the other side usually the next year and everybody just goes back to the Minnesota Vikings from a couple years back where they go on that miraculous run and I think they win like 12 one score games I think there's like eight comebacks or something and then the next year they're like oh and seven in those particular games last year yeah because it's like crazy how yeah you know football works like that I hope that's not the case with the Denver Broncos but we can't overreact after one week especially with the amount of talent they have now I will overreact to the fact that we lost our bet last night it's going to one half of the hammer dad Cowboys AP tone uh it was plus 600 yeah obviously those are big time odds and as soon as they came out and they started handing the ball off to Kenneth Walker I thought to myself yes this is exactly what we need to do Davis Webb Webb I assume was going to do the same with Dobbins on the other side also at Harvey I didn't expect that to be such a split I thought J.K Dobbins is going to be getting the ball a little bit more nonetheless Kenneth Walker scores probably could have scored a few different times he did score twice but we see nothing from J.K Dobbins and Denver Broncos why'd we lose tone and uh people are telling me that we're supposed to win these things why'd we lose well if we're looking back to what we've done uh this season I believe we're now four and two so that is winning um you're not gonna win them all especially when it's plus 400 boosted to plus 600 so you know those people can relax it's called gambling you know that and also be responsible be responsible don't be responsible too much or you're mad at me whatever exactly okay because we told you specifically don't be an here you shouldn't be mad when you lose well you should be a little bit upset when you lose in anything I think you should correct yes but not at all be bummed out but let's at yourself we felt pretty good about it did feel like we were on the right side there with the way the game was being played now on that note J.K Dobbins was nowhere near a touchdown ever that was kind of heartbreaking the Denver Broncos besides the uh drive after Mahomes rushing a touchdown where they went down and scored a touchdown there they were nowhere near a touchdown either so I would blame the Broncos uh more than us because they played their worst game in over an entire calendar year uh thanks Webb yeah thanks a lot That's who to blame. Actually, it's Sean Payton's fault. Boom. Okay, so I like that. I kind of agree. Bo Nix took a huge leap last year. Like, I understand you don't want to lose this guy. You like him. You think he's going to be good. But, like, wasn't this a possibility? He took a huge step. Sean Payton's one of the best OCs of all time, one of the best play callers of all time. Like, can't we maybe, like, maybe meet somewhere in the middle instead of just being like, all right, kid, you're calling the plays. I'll be close by. He even said he was like, I had to make sure I got to do something with my right hand so I'm not constantly getting in there. Like, he wants to call the plays still so badly. It just – it's one week. It's hard to overreact. But, like, that's a big – Bo Nix is still young. Like, he can still get to that next level. I just – it seems kind of crazy. And if he throws for five touchdowns next week, I'll look like an absolute moron. But still. Well, Davis Webb might dial it up. Certainly last night's mags had his number. Well, the crew gets to eat it afterwards, which is great. But it's always an interesting move. I'm like, what do we eat? How do we eat? Also, you're showing us eat. How entertaining. Working. Yeah. Yeah. Like what? So feeding Saban has just become a fun thing because I don't think Coach Saban wants to grab anything. So it's like, I'm just trying to help a lad out who certainly needs some food, but it's on TV. So what do you actually do? These people, Swagoo and Jason, Kelsey just go right in. I'm like, thank you. Thank you for that. Then Scott Van Pelt kept saying, like, you don't want to watch me, man. You don't want to. You don't want to watch me. They were all saying it. And I'm like, what? I was so I was I was befuddled. I really was. I'm like, what? What are you? Are you a monster? Like, what does that look like? Good. Yeah, it was so good. That was the burger. And then there was a little short rib. Then obviously there was a 17 hour thing. And then, look, they're saying you don't want to see Scott Van Pelt eat. He eats like a monster. And Scott's like, I'll eat this when we go off air. And I'm just, why do we know we're doing that right now? Eat it now. And then he took a massive bite. They didn't get on camera. And he did kind of eat like an animal. Oh, OK. I would say he had a huge jaw displaced. I was very impressed with it. But so much fun last night. Let's get let's move on from smoking and eating meat. Let's go to the meat of this thing, which is obviously ball. Let's go right last night. I'm on sword. The lane gets a huge pick, but maybe a C joint. I don't want to be guessing anything. What are your what are you hearing about him? Because obviously that's a massive piece potentially gone from a very young secondary in Kansas City. Yeah, first of all, look great. I mean, the Chiefs have been really high on him forever. And I mean, we saw him basically run the route for a receiver yesterday. Get a pick like. This is a guy who's got a really, really high ceiling. So he had a sort of hairline fracture in his scapula. I believe in. Well, he had it previously, then then came to training camp, sort of had it evaluated and was in a red jersey for a lot of training camp, landed on that same injury. So heard it didn't feel good. Obviously came out of the game, but he's getting an MRI today. I would say they are hopeful that it's just a sprain. There's not anything significant. And, you know, you hate to speculate on injuries. And I would. I never want to do that. But a best case scenario here would be that he landed on an injury. He previously hurt and it just felt weird. Like that would be a great outcome. It didn't seem like structurally there was a major issue here. But anyway, MRI probably around now and hopefully we'll have more by this afternoon. The place was upside down. Great turnover on third, 11, first series. I mean, what a way to start this particular season for the Kansas City Chiefs. So let's flip over to the Denver Broncos side. Obviously, it was a huge piece of our conversation. We love Sean Payton. We're a big fan of Sean Payton. Davis Webb taking the reins. He told us at the Combine, like, the league is normally two years ahead of what you would like to do with your young coaches. So it felt like he was saying that other teams wanted Davis Webb to be their coordinator. He might not have thought the time was perfect for it, but he felt obligated maybe to give him his opportunity because he felt like he had earned it and deserved it. After a lackluster performance last night, one of the worst offensive performances by a Sean Payton team in forever, actually. So can you just tell me a little bit about what the future holds here, how we should view this? And we all just assume Sean Payton's going to be taking the headset and the clipboard from him. Is that reality or not? I hope not. Everything you're saying is true and accurate. And, like, this should be a major discussion point today. When you have the kind of offensive performance you have, this should be the conversation. But I hate it. I do because Davis Webb is a really good young coach. Sean Payton did this for a good reason. He probably would have lost him if you didn't make him the play caller. You want to keep good, smart coaches in your building. And Sean Payton, as good of a play caller as he is, he is just as good of an evaluator of coaches. So he knows what he has in Davis Webb. I thought it would be better. I think everybody thought it would be better. But it is also not a one-week thing. Play calling is hard. They didn't run the ball enough. Now, Sean Payton also doesn't run the ball enough, which is why he writes, like, run the ball on the top of his head. Just to remind him. But it is going to get better. And the Broncos believe it is going to get better. And I hope what they do is trust in their really good coach to use the lessons and make it better. Week one is weird. It's always weird. So, not going to play this week. So, first of all, as far as the injury goes, we've been calling it a hip. It's actually a butt. Like, hurt his. Hurt his glute. Hurt his butt muscle, basically. You know, kind of jarring and weird and looked strange. But he hurt his butt. Which is actually a great outcome. Because in the hip socket, it seems to be absolutely fine. Which, like, you know, all, like, everyone on the internet is basically assuming that he's got, like, a Tua injury. Like, this was not that or not even close. So, I would say the Commander's game in week three is 17 days from when the Seahawks played. There is at least. A chance that he plays in that game. So, I would say probably missing one or two games. Which is, like, really, really good outcome. Can you explain further a little bit? Is it a bruised butt? Sprained butt? Pulled butt? What type of butt is this injury? Because it looked bad when he was walking. The walk looked bad. Which led us all to believe it was a hip. What happened to his gluteus maximus that could potentially keep him out here for three weeks, you're saying? Listen, I'm not going to get into all the details. Because that's a huge injury for them. It sounds like this is one that's going to be evaluated this week, which is to say, day-to-day not like anything significant. So that's good. You know, it's a rib injury. Is it a little pull? Is it a fracture? I think it is in the rib area and seems to be acute and not major, not significant. They listed it as chest, which of course makes me be like, what internal organs did he hurt? But no, it's just a rib. We'll see if he plays this week. A lot of times guys do with this injury, but it's going to be more day-to-day. And by the way, talking about the hype and reporting and everything and all that, I went on our pregame show and talked about how Mike McDaniel can call plays that he's never been able to call because of Justin Herbert's arm, which is all true. I mean, I assume he'll start against the Bears this week, but if he plays well again, are we looking at Carson Wentz QB one in Minnesota for the foreseeable future? You know, I would be surprised at that. I think with Kyler, you know, it's it's suck. I mean, obviously it sucks most for him. Um, but you know, everyone was looking forward to seeing the different dimensions this offense can have with a really dynamic quarterback who could move to move to throw, which is really the fun stuff. Move to run is great. Move to throw in the pocket. That's like the really fun stuff. I'm still excited about that. Minnesota is still excited about that. I'd be surprised if Carson took the reins and ran with it. I'd be surprised if he was the starting quarterback because Kyler is going to come back and I would expect it to be him. But what we did see what, you know, we spent so much time, not we on the show, but also we on the show talking about JJ McCarthy versus Kyler. And we really saw why Kevin O'Connell trust Carson Wentz like this. He's 34. He's 34. He's 34. He's 34. He's been through it. He's seen everything. The ability to go in there with minimal reps and just be really good is like, and I mean, he just rolled like that was impressive. This is why he's the backup. Like, I still believe JJ can be really good eventually. Like we've seen quarterbacks take far more circuitous routes, but man, Wentz was awesome. Awesome on Sunday. Yeah. And I think he knows the offense, right? At least he understands what it's supposed to be because he'd been there the longest out of, uh, you know, at least over Kyler and maybe Kyler gets an offer. He's got an opportunity here to watch the offense run to gets a chance to kind of, uh, watch them film for the Vikings. Cause remember he just got dropped in this past off season. And obviously, you never want those soft tissue injuries. So you want to make sure a guy has a chance to ramp up. He also was dealing with a back injury, which is why he wasn't there at training camp. Obviously. And then there's the quarterback. That's the contract part of it. And so because the Steelers don't negotiate during the season, when that didn't get done, that was the end of it. Most other teams, almost every other team, you'd say, OK, we'll keep working on it. But that's not going to be the case. And what I've been wondering and what something I reported on on Sunday is the possibility of a trade. Now, there are teams that are corner needy teams. He is a very good player with a contract situation that's a mess. They're obviously at an impasse. It's been not in a great place for a while. So does someone step up and say, we need a really good corner. He's a really good one. These are guys are hard to find. I'm going to trade for him. Pittsburgh has been open to trading him. The interest based on their price has been not there yet, but definitely one to keep tracking on who he ends up playing. and football a man who loves the sport of college football a man who has a lot of influence in the sport of college football as he should legend icon ladies and gentlemen reese davis with reese's right now you know i think it's buzzing about what you just said about lane kiffin's return to old miss and i saw something last weekend path that i think might be important come saturday night in oxford sam levitt as great as he was opening weekend when we saw him field level against clemson had some issues against louisiana tech he threw three interceptions two of them in the red zone this one you're seeing going back a hundred yards against louisiana tech they turned the ball over four straight times we've seen how effective sam levitt can be running but can old miss turn him into a pastor and say you're going to beat us time after time after time throwing the football we're going to make you make another play now old miss hasn't been great against uh against the run they let lincoln keenholz run on them from the quarterback position a little bit but if they can do this i think this could be a big factor in the game because trinidad chambliss i think is going to even against that great lsu defense gonna get his so is sam levitt going to be able to stay away from the mistakes and beat them throwing and he's a big deal those interceptions against louisiana tech raised a little bit of an eyebrow for this weekend for me and we've seen him turn the ball over some times in his career there are a couple of other games this weekend i think that are being a little overshadowed because of LSU and Ole Miss. The first one I think of is SMU and Louisville. And through two weeks of the season, what we've seen from the two quarterbacks in this game, you've seen the top two guys in the country in total offense in Kevin Jennings from SMU and Lincoln Keenholz from Louisville, the guy we just talked about who was effective both on the ground and throwing the football against Ole Miss. I think that these two teams, winner of this game, you look at as maybe the best challenger to Miami. And Miami plays neither of them in the regular season, so we might see this somewhere down the road. I'm really looking forward to this game because what we've seen from these two in the first two weeks of the season, explosive offense, I think they're going to go up and down the field too. There's a game on Friday night in the Big 12, Houston at Texas Tech. Now, if this were on a Saturday and there was no such thing as LSU and Ole Miss, we might be making our return trip to Lubbock. This is a really, really big game in the Big 12. But both of these teams so far have struggled against Oregon State. Oregon State, under a new head coach, DeMarcus Shepard, they went to Houston, gave the Cougars everything they wanted until the fourth quarter. And then when Texas Tech went to Corvallis Saturday night, they did the exact same thing. A little side note here, I know we like to keep up with the rising stars. Have you guys noticed this wide receiver from Oregon State, Jesse Legree, went over 100 yards against both of these guys. And put 240 and two touchdowns on Texas Tech Saturday night. My first thought seeing that was, man, what a great job DeMarcus Shepard did recruiting him. He's a freshman from Baltimore. And then my next thought was, he better keep recruiting. Because I imagine I'm not the only one that noticed the productivity so far. And then the last thing, and I have to offer a bit of an apology for this one. Oklahoma State and Oregon. I think Oklahoma State coming off that loss. Tulsa against Oregon at home. Drew Mestermaker told his teammates, you got to forget about this stuff. And then went out and balled out, overcame mistakes, and then put his body on the line to get into the end zone late. And they beat the Ducks. Now, Oregon, to me, is at a crossroads. They've got a get right game against Portland State. And last week, when you guys were kind enough to have me on, I was like, I'm not worried about Oregon. No, they didn't look great against Boise State. I was wrong about that. I am officially worried about Oregon. Oregon looks sloppy. They look complacent. And they look a lot more like Clemson and Penn State from last year. Teams that had high expectations that came nowhere close to them than they do, say, Notre Dame a couple years ago, dumped a game and came back and made it to the national championship game. And also, the Oklahoma State people have been upset, Pat, because we were doing the warm-ups. Or actually, I think it was before we talked to Lanning on Saturday. I made a comment, sort of a snarky one, admittedly. It said, Oklahoma State, it won 30 straight home openers. And I was really glad I got that note in because it was about to come to a screeching halt. I was wrong. You said that? I didn't even hear that. Yeah, I was wrong about that. Now it's 31. New coordinators over there, offense and defense for Dan Lanning. Is he able to eyeball who's the right coordinators and hire them? And continue that turnover that's going to happen at a top program? I guess we find out. There have certainly been misses at coordinator position hires and has set teams back. And then, like, when you realize it, shit, we've already put so much into this. How can we have guests? We have to adjust. And if they were to have that situation continue to broil, that would suck for all the guys that went back to Oregon this year to kind of do this thing together. And it ends up the way it does. So, Ty, you just wanted Reese to understand that James Franklin is in complete control down there in Blacksburg? Well, yeah, I think he was just he was kind of trying to find his footing a little bit. This is the James Franklin from Penn State that I know. And that's how if you're in the ACC, you should be. Oh, boy, he's back. The bad man's back. And I don't know how many. You know, top five teams they have on their schedule. So look out for Virginia Tech. Press conferences are certainly get a lot of convos in college football right now. You know, Reese, anything you thought maybe you were going to put on the fringe there that needs to be brought up or mentioned that isn't maybe James Franklin's press conference? First of all, James is going to be testy whenever they play Maryland because he was coaching waiting there one time. They didn't hire him. He stuck it to him with a late touchdown. His time expired in a 44-7 game a couple of years ago. So he's always going to be a late touchdown. So he's going to be a little edgy whenever his teams, wherever they are, play Maryland. I think the other thing, Pat, is you start looking at teams with high expectations and ones that don't deliver. That Oklahoma performance at Michigan was ungood. I mean, credit to Michigan. Credit to Michigan. Man, their offense looks a mess. A mess, you know, for Mateer and the guys that they have coming back. So I think we find out a ton about Oklahoma, not this weekend, but the next weekend. Next, when they play Georgia, and we'll find out everything about Oregon when they play USC in a couple of weeks. And credit to Michigan, by the way. That was a, I know they won the first game. They're undefeated, but that was a great answer after all of the controversy from a week ago against Western Michigan. Congrats to Michigan fans getting a chance to celebrate a big-time win over the SEC and over Oklahoma. And now the Western Michigan stuff is just in the deep, deep past. Whittingham's era has now officially started. That's kind of how we're all going to view it as we move forward. And this thing is just. This is just flashing. Because I think it's trying to be like what Texas was like on Saturday night. What a win. What a comeback, Reese. And we were sitting there at halftime talking, especially after the third down where Relique Brown doesn't get the first down. He's a yard short. And then fourth down comes, end of round. Then Ohio State takes advantage. Jeremiah Smith had like 112 yards in the first half. And multiple times. It's like, this Ohio State team, they're getting the ball coming out of half. We thought that was dead in the water. We thought Sark, Texas. Yeah, right. Another egg. Another egg was kind of late. Instead, now Arch has three top 10 wins down there at DKR. Now Texas has maybe the best comeback we might see all year against the number one team in the country. And now it has us all believing, like, maybe Texas has it this year. Your thoughts after that game ends? What goes through your mind immediately? And what a special, special environment to be a part of. So lucky to be there. It was fantastic. Heat, speaker in your ear, everything. Oh, my God. And so it was fantastic inside that stadium Saturday night. And, you know, seeing Arch run around celebrating afterwards, it was like a billion pounds had been lifted off of his shoulder. And I'm really excited to see now if maybe we see complete and free Arch Manning. Because there were a couple of times, as watching the game, and hey, look, man, you guys who played, forgotten more ball in the last five seconds than I'll ever know. But it almost seemed like at times. He won. He wanted to see it open. And then he would try to overcompensate by just throwing it 1,000 miles an hour. And it led to some inaccuracy. Does a win like that, that comeback kind of let him relax and really, truly play to his potential. So I think it was a great moment for Arch and a huge moment for Texas going forward. Yeah. And it felt like it was something that maybe that fan base needed. Because I don't want to repeat what some of the people in the stadium are saying at halftime. But, boy, they were excited to see Sark maybe leave. And then you have the second half that you have in the fourth quarter that you have. And all of a sudden, it's like, yeah, this is what we've been waiting for. Now, D-Bud has a follow-up about Texas. Yeah, Reeves, I got to ask you. Every week, last week, I believe you said Notre Dame, LSU, Texas. Are they the top team in the country now? And if not them, then who? I still have Notre Dame ranked number one. I put Texas number two because I wanted to honor the victory. But if you watch the entire game, and I realize it's a far greater opponent than anybody Notre Dame's faced so far. But kind of watching the whole game, it was really hard to get to the place where I think this is the best team in the country. They certainly have the best win and the best moment. But, you know, I think they have the potential to be right there. They've got other great opportunities. Trip to Tennessee coming up. Tennessee, who I think is really good, maybe even better than I anticipated. But I don't have them on top right now. Just because the entire game. In their game, they didn't always look like number one. Okay, so you have a differing opinion than our guy. One half of the hammer. Dad! Cowboys put out his above average poll and guess what he has on top? Tone has Texas as the number one team in the country in his above average poll because there are average polls out there. People that don't really know it's like a 30,000 foot view. Above average is where Tone's living. He's at like 10,000 feet. 15,000 feet. Now there's some real dive in deep folks that would be a elite poll. This is just an above average poll and I think we're all kind of happy with it. I think we're all kind of happy with the above average poll of Tone. Tone, you've got Texas, Miami, Ohio State. You don't have Notre Dame up there which obviously Reese likes. I'm not saying you're not doing that or whatever but having the best win in that comeback and then I didn't want to discredit Ohio State for a one point loss down in Austin when you basically controlled the entire game. So I didn't want to put Ohio State down at all but Miami has looked incredibly, incredibly just unbelievable so far this season. Notre Dame would probably come in there. Oh Notre Dame Georgia somewhere around number four. Oh so you're saying Notre Dame is probably bottom of your poll right there. Yeah right around the bottom of my poll. Okay. Where's Indiana? Has Indiana not done enough to sit on your poll? I use right down there too especially because North Texas just blew out Mullins boys in week two. North Texas is not a bad team and IU handled them. I agree. That's Neil Brown down there obviously. Backpack Neil. So maybe Indiana is sliding up the above average poll. And this is also like it's week two okay and it's kind of like who won the weekend situation obviously. I thought Miami won the weekend week one. Texas won the weekend here in week two. But a couple teams that did win this weekend talk about the holy war BYU and Utah. They both looked very very good this weekend. Utah just absolutely dismantled Arkansas and then BYU kind of workman type 28 point win. Sorry not 20 point win. 28 points they scored this weekend against Arizona and Noah Fafita. How do you feel about the Pac or sorry Jesus the Big 12 now that. Have a little respect please. Big 12 might be the deepest and wildest. That's what I'm saying especially after Texas Tech didn't open up the season great. From what I've seen so far I think BYU looks like the best team in the Big 12. Maybe Utah. Hold the phone. Hold the phone. Have you seen West Virginia buddy? Have you seen Hawkins running wild in Morgantown? Have you seen? Okay go back to what you're saying. I'm sorry. We're going to find out about them next two weeks. How about this opportunity that they have and I think that Michael Hawkins and Cam Cook are they both they're both in like the top 15 top 20 in the country in rushing which is just what you would have expected from Rich Rod's offense. You got Virginia then Oklahoma State. I mean this could change very quickly. I don't think there's a lot of room from the top of the Big 12 to the lower part of the Big 12. There are a lot of good teams in there. Not sure who's great yet but I think there are a lot of good teams in there. Utah has certainly looked terrific so far. Even though Arizona lost BYU I think Arizona is a good team as well. Big 12 is obviously going to be a battle. Iowa State's tough. The Big 10 is kind of doing their thing right now. I mean shame on the sports books for putting a 14 point spread on that game. That was just absolutely ridiculous. But yeah I tell you what Iowa State impressed me. They did. Week one of the NFL wrapped up. Week two of the college football had an incredible weekend and now all eyes are ahead to Thursday night as we have Buffalo Bills hosting for the first time in Highmark Stadium. A member of the Pat McAfee Show will be up there on Thursday. Thursday at noon for our particular program. Where and how and who is certainly up for conversation as that is an Amazon game, which we are obviously very respectful and appreciative of. But we certainly have been asked to be a part of the opening of Highmark and cannot wait to have a presence there, at least for the day of the program. Who will be headed up there? Now, college and NFL, obviously Indiana went completely undefeated last year, and the Seattle Seahawks, I guess they lose their first game, but other than that, early in the season, we saw quickly that they were a good team. So over these next first couple weeks, you certainly need to see something that gives you the hope that they could go on to win it all. But if your team looked like shite week one or week two, that does not mean that's forever. I'm looking at you, Oregon. Okay, Oregon's team looked like absolute shite week one and week two. Skid by Boise State. Losed Oklahoma State. They could still win out and accomplish everything that they want to accomplish over there in Oregon. That is just very real. And in the NFL, it's the same damn thing. The odds on Super Bowl favorites look the worst out of everybody. They're the only team that didn't score in double digits. They have the MVP at quarterback, and they were one of the shortest odds to ever win a Super Bowl in the Los Angeles Rams. Do we not think they're going to figure it out the rest of the way? We hope. football on Monday night I think what I take away from obviously this was unbelievable watching him run all over the place was was very very fun especially how physically is how he finishes his runs are amazing but what about that Chiefs defense I know like I don't want to be the guy oh I played defense so I got to talk about defense all the time but I was very very impressed by this Chiefs D and and I'm sitting there thinking like yeah they used their top four picks this year to take defensive guys and I think three of them you know had somewhat of an impact in this game so yeah looks like the plans are going well in Kansas City and these guys really executed night one yeah it was fun to be in there Arrowhead was a electrifying environment you talk about Kenneth Walker being an absolute beast uh there's another running back that said hello to the NFL scene not only week one but I believe in the whole family same game is that where we saw him first uh the game after that I believe okay so week sorry week one of preseason we watched this man out of Notre Dame run like it's the Super Bowl and we all immediately go oh no but now we're watching them in his team nowhere near as shite as everybody was expecting no everybody thought this team was gonna what what did the guy who covers the Arizona Cardinals say he's a they'd be lucky to steal one or two in the first 11 weeks of the season well 1-0 beating the Chargers who was everybody's darling coming into the year the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals ladies and gentlemen Mike LaFleur yeah what's up guys hey I heard I saw you in my monitor here watching us overreact to week one the way we were hey these teams absolute shite maybe forever these teams might be the best of all time how are you managing obviously the incredible start for your team first game as a NFL head coach trying to continue to build on that success where do you sit right now after your first game having some success versus maybe a week ago looking ahead to what it could all be like coach yeah you know it's uh it's the next week you know and like we've been preaching since we got back in uh July I mean this is a week-to-week league and uh you know I've I've talked to them about being where your feet are and I thought they did that throughout the training camp throughout the preseason when we got back out of Glendale back to Tempe for the rest of of training camp and then you know just focus on the first week and uh you know so we we put um Sunday's game to bed and and uh you know starting to get ready for Seattle obviously well congrats on managing success this early in your tenure especially with what all the expectations were one of the offseason stories was Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals have a little bit of a contract dispute that ends up getting done Carson Beck had some success you obviously have a new offense coming in there can you tell us about you're in Jacoby's relationship and the offense that he is operating for you and he looks smooth out there Jacoby I wanted him to be the MVP when he was the starting quarterback for the Colts then he got injured he obviously has a wealth of knowledge but what have you seen from him and how quickly have you two gotten on the same page yeah you know well I'll first talk about you know what I didn't know about him in terms of the person um I always had a lot of respect for him as a player never never obviously coached with him uh but but just like you guys I mean you feel like you've played him almost every year for what seems like a dozen years um and and every time you go you just know you're going to get good quality quarterback play and so uh having the ability to obviously get to know him once training camp started and start to build that relationship I knew he was a great guy so I knew there was going to be no issues there and then I also know there was going to be no issues in terms of learning our system the hardest part about playing quarterback uh is a young guy coming in uh coming in and learning the speed of the game and just how to play quarterback in the NFL well he's done that and so all it was really from our perspective was just getting on the same page of what he likes what our verbiage is what our language is how we work our cadences what our operation means to us but when the ball was snapped I mean it was going to be a lot of the similar concepts that he's ran so uh it's been awesome um you know the way he approached it I thought he was excellent on game day just with his demeanor taking it one play at a time his his calmness helps me because I'm an absolute psychopath on game day so uh great although tightly wound I didn't know that was the case what so what does that mean what how do you describe yourself because obviously I go different ways there's people that get like angry and irritated easily there's people that are like just super locked in and intense how do you self kind of uh self eval how your game day operations are and is this how you're trying to be are you like yeah this is who I am you just need to deal with it no I you know I I try to uh I try not to be that I try to just obviously be in the moment I'd say that's probably strong the psychopath but uh no he just it was more about it was more of a compliment for him because of just again how even keely is not to be confused with uh you know um he doesn't got that you know fire if you will uh because he has that so it uh it was a it was a good first step for for him in this offense and in in this team but again uh resetting right back to work Jacoby was calling uh players meetings whenever Andrew Luck was the quarterback here in Indianapolis that's when I learned like oh this guy is a guy and then you learn about what he's Bill Parcells was like his mentor or whatever through it all obviously New England goes through it it's like what a perfect situation for a brand new head coach another great thing for an offense he's having a 99 tight end AJ has a question for you yeah coach he's talking about Trey McBride obviously he he comes out and has a big week one for you guys can you talk a little bit about I guess what makes him special what makes this guy able to separate and he seems to be great at the point of attack going up and getting the ball especially you talk about those 50 50 balls but just such a good job using his body I think to box Defenders out but what does Trey McBride mean to this team in this offense yeah I mean how long you got there's there's no weakness to this guy he's he's mentally tough he's physically tough he's savvy he's got incredible hands I've been very fortunate like we all have to be around guys that have just great ball skills uh he's he's right up there if not the best I've ever been around um like I said he's got the savviness to him like he just has it's kind of like uh I try to equate it to you know like like Luca uh you know it like where he he plays at his pace and and he's got that that savviness to separate and then obviously the finishing skills to make the play he's got the yak um and and he's a great dude he's a great leader he works his butt off uh and and I think that's that's that's what makes him special and I think he's only improving I love the way he just operates like he has a big play we're gonna see it we're gonna know that he is pumped about about said play I like bringing that to a fan base I like bringing that to a team can you tell me about the response from the Cardinals fans because I know you know this you're the head coach there you're normally not going to get a head coaching job at a place that is set up good you know like they're not looking for a new head coach if everything is hunky-dory you know and you and I got a chance to talk at the World Cup game shout soccer that was good good times man it was a good time it was a lot a lot less stressful back then I'm having a great time by the way so I think you're talking about yourself for that particular thing and we appreciate you joining us in the middle of trying to build a team but whenever it's like hey the pressure of becoming a head coach and then at the Arizona Cardinals with what the NFC West already is I was bringing up you're like no I like where we're at and it I like what we're doing brand new practice facility coming right I mean we got young stars seeming to be playing well Jacoby is on a very team-friendly quarterback contract even though you know the whole conversation was out there can you tell me about how you feel and how you think fans feel going into the season zero expectations I think from anybody that beat reporter actually said that to us so I hope we're not breaking news to you he was like maybe steal one or two games in the first 11 and it's like okay that is some is anybody gonna go to these games are you gonna be able to do it then you win a game here can you just tell me about how it feels over there right now as an Arizona outside viewers how it is actually for you in there right now I mean you know this I I don't really know what the view is outside because again um after that game you get on the plane uh obviously uh just personally for myself trying to answer all the texts that you got from family friends from from everywhere you've ever been and and then uh you get home and you spend some time with your family talk to your brother you know and then you wake up and you got to get right back to work like you don't have time to think about what's going on outside this building I hope you know um not that not that we don't hear the noise and all those kind of things but like it you don't have time to think about it so uh but going back just kind of in in terms of just the Arizona Cardinals in general like I've always loved this place I I for whatever reason I loved playing here um I was obviously in the division for seven years before four with the Niners three with the Rams uh had the playoff game in here in 24 when the fires happened uh honestly the coolest game I've ever been a part of was that playoff game uh versus Minnesota on on that Monday night when we got moved out of there um I love this city I've loved living here they've been awesome to my family and myself but more importantly my family I love our ownership I love how committed uh everybody is um and then most importantly uh I love like I love these players like I mean I you know I know what happened last year but I also know what happened in 24 when they were playing really good football and they were right on the cusp of kind of breaking into the playoffs and there was a lot of those same faces particularly on defense you know so um um you know I like where we're at but again all our focus is is want to know each week what a promo right there hey that was a good speech bro I'm happy you're a head coach in the NFL that was a good speech I think the people of Arizona Cardinals that wasn't a speech it was just well exactly that's what I'm saying it's not a speech to you you know that's just your natural thoughts but that was a the message you just delivered to Cardinals fans right there is I think scratching every single itch that potentially have as a football fan I'm happy that you're their guy because we love that city as well yeah I mean we are massive fans of that city now you've done something uh for the first time since uh Bill Cowher did it in 1992 and I think this goes to even more of the national narrative versus you know your narrative inside the building biggest upset for a debut in coaching history since Bill Cowher in 1992 so it's like I appreciate you not hearing the noise outside nobody believed in you okay you can actually use that speech to the boys as you go ahead and we've all become fans of your team after watching just one game now you and how you operate you talked about your demeanor D-Bud has a question for you coach obviously you had the preseason but was there was there any surprises or anything you didn't expect your regular season head coaching debut I know you know you got to have the challenge flag it's different communications now obviously different media responsibilities but was there anything that I guess caught you off guard during game day and then also what's the biggest challenge going from week one to week two? obviously we overreact from everything what's the biggest challenge in that building? yeah I mean honestly like when you asked me that first question I like you got the preseason we had the extra game um obviously because the hall of fame game so I mean it's something's going to come up at some point but but as of right now or as of this last Sunday um nothing nothing really kind of caught us off guard again you you just try to remind yourself you're not in this thing alone like you got a team behind you you got your your coordinators you got the assistant coaches you got your game management people and you're prepping with these people all week so like you don't want to be caught off guard and again at some point something's going to happen and we'll have to make that adjustment so um you know again that's that's kind of where we're at and then you think about week one to week two um you got a lot of time I've seen it so many different ways some people kind of have a mock game week the week before right especially with not only three preseason games you can truly do kind of that Wednesday Thursday Friday you have to do it on different days because the league rules and all that kind of stuff because you got to give them those the time off Friday Saturday Sunday um but we didn't do that we went good on good still we introduced some Chargers stuff without them without them really knowing we were just doing it against our defense um you know so it wasn't like totally brand new the next week but uh but now you get into it like all of us all 32 teams and we don't have you know all this time it's it's a week I know Seattle had a little extra time because obviously they played on Wednesday and Thursday being the Super Bowl champs uh but for the most part everyone's just in it and and you know they're in their routine and here we go sound like such an experienced coach obviously having a chance to be in a lot of different buildings gives you an opportunity to learn how it should go you sound like a 50 year old man now you got the face of a 12 year old in the hair I can't believe you're wearing a hat right now we are so it's I told Mark Dalton our media guy said I'll go on but I'm wearing my hat it's Tuesday this is a game plan day I don't do the hair on Tuesday I respect that I understand you got to do what you got to do I watched a documentary on pink uh you know pink's hair is like legendary someday she doesn't want to do it yeah you know so she's got a hat on that was part of the documentary because her hair said that I like that that's kind of where you're at right now it's like hey listen I ain't got time to be on camera this shit's everywhere whatever it's not perfect okay so I'm going to put a hat on and I'm in grind mode and on that note we appreciate you taking time we do have some more questions though especially because it felt like it could have been an emotional sunday for a couple people in the community but it's not crowd go ahead Ty yeah coach how special was it having your parents there you know being able to kind of witness your first win and I am a Packers fan so I'm just curious you said you talked to your brother after the game did you get the opportunity to maybe talk a little shit to him and be like hey I have a higher career winning percentage uh than you do right now sorry about that and also I I how much do you guys lean on each other during the year and has that changed now that you are both head coaches and uh you're no longer a coordinator yeah um as a triple question right yeah I had to get it all had to get it in hit them all and he's really mad at your brother right now to him that guy that just asked that question it was uh it was great um you know obviously I have my folks there and then then after the game they um they flew back with my wife and kids so they'll be here for the Seattle game and and then they'll head back to Green Bay you know they live like a block away from Lambeau they live in Titletown there so they uh they obviously make those games uh quite often but man wherever I've been there you know they are the places we've been because we've been kind of obviously California with the Niners and Rams and then you got the Jets which is kind of a pretty cool fun city to visit if you like New York City so the home is Green Bay but the vacation is wherever I'm at so Phoenix Arcadia Scottsdale it's been pretty cool for them but no it was it was a good moment they left right away so I actually didn't even see him after the game Lauren was able to book a quick flight after to try to beat us home and we almost got home at the same time so I was able to spend time with the kids and then uh yeah I talked to talk to Matt right after obviously um you know uh I I actually did see the score in the in the early in the fourth quarter so you think things are going well then then I went through media and then saw the final and that was uh that was that so um you know there was no no crap talking there I mean it's you know it sucks you you like I said in my presser usually when uh hopefully you both win and then everyone's in in a good place for at least like eight minutes and then you move on to the next week uh but when you when you lose that's more of what you're talking about you're talking you know so I was kind of asking more questions about what went down and all that so um but we talk all the time we talked a few times yesterday um you know whether it's just floating ideas we we each watch each other's tape uh because there are similarities just like I pop on the Rams just like I pop on the Niners you know just to to glance it to see if there's anything that they're doing that would fit within our players in our scheme yeah your natural answers or speeches and uh you just said yeah when we win we all have good eight minutes or so and then we just can get fired next week if we don't do the right job is that exactly how you feel yeah yeah I mean that's it is week to week I mean we know we all know what we signed up for so I mean that's like it is what it is that's it's it's it's all noise Sean McVay did a 60-minute interview I saw one clip yeah and they're like well how do you deal with the blah blah blah and he goes I'm gonna be honest we set this up today I we didn't have a good practice I'm in a terrible spot I don't like to even hear right now it's like you guys have to be psychos like we we have tried to explain that on the end of the program about how like the people at the top of Sports all of them are just psychos you have to be obsessive you have to have that mindset that's what separates you from everybody else Arizona seemingly got a guy out here man I am excited to watch your career and I appreciate the fact that in the middle of your game you look up okay Green Bay's doing good it's late there's no way Matt there's no way that's good go through the press with big time winning first coach yeah hey we're having fun get out there you lost holy that had to be devastating yeah it's going to be nice immediately feel for your brother and what he's going through Ty's going through the same thing though so uh just know that he's out there and Cardinals fans are gonna be doing the same thing Connor has last question for you here coach yeah coach it was also really cool one of the moments of the entire you know weekend week one as a whole was your team coming over to you as the clock was hitting zero and just celebrating I think it was Trey McBride I think Wingard as well was over there just kind of you know embracing you and just enjoying the fact that holy you guys won their first game of the season and of your career how cool was that for you to kind of feel that from your team and do you feel as though your culture is settling in already set in and how did you kind of get that going so quickly because it truly was astounding I mean the stack got pulled up it's the biggest win for a debut since 1992. like how does that feel especially being able to celebrate that with your team yeah I mean I love these guys uh you know I'm not going to say and obviously some you've only known for seven eight weeks whatever it's been or I shouldn't say that going into training camp with them but getting to know them obviously when you got it in February but really getting to know their football character once you put the pads on how we're going to work in training camp um you know we got the right people and that's a that's a credit to Monty uh he's he's he's brought in a lot of great people here uh unfortunately um a lot of a lot of those guys got hurt last year I mean there was a ton of injuries that's not an excuse I wasn't even in the building I'm just that was the reality I was in LA and and that's what we saw too like every every game that you um that you that you watched of Arizona it felt like there was five or six new new guys out there every week and that's that's hard you guys know what it's like to to not have continuity uh and you'd rather just play with just 11 guys that you might not know their names but at least if they played four weeks together now they're communicating the right way they're playing with the right play style they kind of they they feel off each other so um but again it goes the credit goes to Monty in terms of bringing in those right guys and um you know we're just again still just looking to build and get right back at I'm excited to see them tomorrow and we'll get the first installment of this Seattle game plan in uh I've said that was the last question I lied uh Jeremiah I love you obviously draft a running back very high uh what have you seen from him because I was scared not that my opinion matters I was scared to death with how he was running that first preseason game okay I I was scared to death this guy's never gonna make it I mean if this is how he's running a preseason he's got no chance it's like well what was he running like an appreciation well it was like every single play was his last play that's a great trait not a bad trait at all can you tell me a little bit about Jeremiah and uh how you see his kind of career going and how we should judge him off of this season like a fair way to kind of judge his season this year yeah I you know that's a hard one for me Pat like I'm not going to put any expectations on him I know this he's a I think he's going to be a really good football player I think he's even a better person I think that it was so beneficial for him to learn some of the things that you're talking about in real time like my opinion I know a lot of people disagree with me I don't think you can put these guys in bubble wrap uh through the preseason particularly the young guys I know some people play vets a little bit more than others we didn't that is what it is but for a runner Like, you can't simulate that in OTAs and training camp. You just can't. They have to go out there and play a little bit. And I thought it was very unfortunate that on the last snap, obviously, he went down. But I thought he learned as he went. And him and I had some really good talks about that half of football that he had, the 11 carries, the three catches. And I know he was in a really good spot, and he felt the same way. So it was good to obviously get him back, get his feet wet. He'll just continue to improve, because his conditioning will continue to improve. When you're not playing football for a few weeks, I mean, you guys know that can happen, right? You can't simulate it. You've got to be out there. You can't just be on the bike or the treadmill thinking you're going to get in football shape. So be able to get him back for the week leading up to it, I thought he was right at that perfect number of reps. And we'll see where week two goes. He's awesome to watch. Also, the human's spectacular. We got a chance to learn about him, obviously, through Notre Dame and his whole story. It's like-- you say he's learning as he goes, yeah. He's like a-- I mean, he's a Notre Dame guy. Guy's got a big brain. I expect-- you don't want to put expectations on him? I will. Offensive Rookie of the Year. All right, you're the man. But Arizona-- Arizona Cardinals in a big like, hey, we're new. We're a new organization out here. And I think he is a great coach for them. AJ, every answer-- I said it was a speech. But when coaches talk, it's like you hear their brain just naturally comes with the coach answer. Everybody's like, this is coach speak. This is cliche. It's like, no, that's how these dudes' brains just operate. Like, their answers are-- you ask Kurt Cignetti a question, there is any-- talk about music. Well, if you go back to what the-- he'll go. He'll go right into coach speak, because that's who they are. He sounded like that with every answer there, AJ. I mean, that was coach through and through, young guy, innovative offense. I think he does want a tough team as well. It's like, out in Phoenix, if he's able to create a contender, a conversation piece, a relevant team in that NFC West, I think they will be very, very grateful. And he's got a young group of dogs over there, AJ. And they're doing it in all three phases, obviously. Yeah, it's crazy that we're only through week one of the season. It's how we view the Cardinals now from where we viewed them, say, three weeks ago. It just feels so much different. And if they can continue to do this, and they play the Seahawks, obviously a huge test next game. But I think he did a good job of explaining and showing what it's like, how stressful it might be, and how every single minute of your life is consumed by thinking of, hey, how do I-- what do I need to do to make my team give the best they possibly can, the best chance to win every single Sunday? Because it's wild, man. These guys, the hours they put in and the-- I guess, when you hear him talk about his parents and everybody, you're like, yeah, if we both win, cool. We got eight minutes of happiness. We had eight minutes of, oh, this is great. And then, boom, we're on to the next one. But that's truly-- that's kind of how it has to be. Yeah, I mean, Nick Saban told us what? He won national championship, gets the photo. Took 10 minutes. This is awesome. Thank you. Yeah, guys, you did it. I got to call some recruits. I didn't know what to expect out of that. And like you said, week to week. And obviously, we're going to overreact from week one because that's all we have. And him even talking about just how much time you have to lead up and ramp up and have your mindset right for that first game. And then once you kind of hit the-- that was the biggest thing for me as a rookie coming in, like just how fast the game weeks were. Like once you got back into that building, really Wednesday as another team, the complete pages were flipped. As a coach, you have to set the stage. You have to set clear expectations for what this week is. This team is, what these challenges are, what our game plan is. And now he's got to do that. And you've got to have that team on board. The quarterback's got to be on board. So I'm excited for him. I will say, after that interview, I feel much better about him, even after watching him play on Sunday, going forward. Because we kind of get a glimpse of who he is behind the scenes. But I'm excited about the Arizona Cardinals' future. Yeah. I like another of the four in there as a head coach, Ty. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the AFC/NFC Shite Division. OK. OK. This is four teams that we feel are absolute shite. They can come from either conference, OK? But obviously, it is a division, so it is four teams. How we see it right now. And obviously, relegation, promotion. Yeah. You can get in and out of this division. It's fluid. But this division certainly exists. Number one team, congratulations. In the lead of the Shite Division, Cleveland Browns. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Cleveland Browns. The division is actually named after them. Congratulations to the Cleveland Browns finding themselves on the Shite Division. Although this is the first year of this expansion to the Shite Division, they know what it's like to be here. Now, they are looking to get promoted out of here, not looking for relegation. Todd Munkin kind of understands the deal. How many days is it? 600 and some days since Deshaun Watson's last start. Yes. Obviously, it did not go swimmingly down there in Jacksonville. But the Jaguars might be really good. So the Cleveland Browns could find themselves literally in the outhouse, the Shite Division, and then maybe in the penthouse, the top of the AFC North over the next few weeks. Or they could find themselves at the top of the division, the Shite Division, for the rest of the season. Who knows? They're not the only ones, though. I mean, we clarify things all the time, whenever you realize what you were doing, which was potentially overreacting. But nonetheless, Salah back in the Shite Division. And what will he and Dayball do? We shall see. Could have been a tough first week. Also, Jets could be really good. Could be. Yeah. I mean, Jets could be really, really good. They're not the only two. Obviously, that's just half the division. Ladies and gentlemen, the third team being welcomed into the AFC/NFC Shite Division. I don't like it, not one bit. Uh-oh. Please. What? No. Who saw this coming? Oh. Ravens. They're so good. I didn't like this. There was a vote, league-wide vote, that found the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC/NFC Shite Division. And I think it's because everybody that had a vote watched the game on Sunday and were in the building and watched Lamar Jackson have a career day, Derrick Henry have a career day, and Zay Flowers have a career day while only playing a half of football. I don't like that they ended up in the Shite Division. But once again, this is not a permanent division. There is always relegation and promotion, and I don't think the Colts are going to stay here. I think it was just one bad week. But historic days for three different people on the other side certainly warrant a Shite Division nominee. And I guess the boys and I, even though I didn't vote yes, have put the Colts into the Shite Division. Fun fact for the Colts. They haven't won a football game on U.S. soil since Halloween last season. So just wanted to throw that out there so everybody knew that. Against the Falcons, half the AFC South? What? What? If they score a couple more points, we actually have a record-breaking week one. That's true. Instead, the team that we love with the offensive genius, Sean McVay at the helm, and the MVP, with weapons galore, Don Underwood, wanting to put on an international show. They're the only ones that didn't in the entire NFL somehow, some way. So, yeah, I don't like it because I do love when the stars are out. Bring them out, bring them out, bring them out. I like that that's happening. But now we've got Myles Garrett on IR. Aaron Donald potentially returning on Monday night would be a gigantic boost, I think, for the entire team, obviously. But, yeah, I didn't like it. But when their name was mentioned, there was a hearty conversation, and we found ourselves with the Super Bowl favorites in the AFC-NFC shite division. So there it is, folks. AJ, your thoughts on the AFC-NFC shite division as it sits right now after week one of the NFL season? So I cannot say that I disagree with any of these picks. I think this is very representative of where the league is at right now through week one. But is this going to be a weekly segue? Are we having four teams every single week? I think there's a chance. Because, obviously, if you do it every week just based off how the team is, the Browns will be there every single week. But they might get a win. We don't know that. Yeah, there's some teams that we don't know if they played the greatest team, in football. For instance, the Colts could have played the 1972 Dolphins in this Baltimore Ravens team. Lamar Jackson, in command and control, has a career day. Derrick Henry, obviously still Derrick Henry, has a career day. Runs himself up the record books. Zay Flowers has 150 yards, is wide open the entire time, and he doesn't even play the entire game. There's a chance that the Ravens are the greatest team of all time. What did you see from Declan Doyle's Baltimore Ravens team that made them so successful? And can we expect this all year? Because if that's the case, first of all, electrifying show. I mean, we were live in the building. It's electrifying, but they could win it all, could they not? Yeah, I mean, look, that offense from the first play, bootlegged to Zay Flowers, got him in main coverage out there. Like, he had his way, all that kind of space. You know, I call him the Zay-hey kid, you know, like after Willie Mays. Like, he could just pick him up and put him down with the best of them. And you can't tackle the guy in the open field. But Declan Doyle had a great day. And they really solved the issue. Of the interior of this offensive line. They started this kid, Javon Gwynn, at center. Vavega Yawani at right guard just owned DeForest Buckner inside. They won the interior of that offensive line so that, you know, the King could run wild. Lamar had time. They couldn't cover Zay Flowers. Like, you know, they got great contributions from a lot of guys that nobody even knew who their names or numbers were. And so I give Declan Doyle a lot of credit for just opening this offense up and winning it. And giving Lamar that feeling like he can be the MVP in this offense. We've got enough for you right now to be the MVP again. Yeah, and he was bought in, obviously, all OTAs, all spring, all summer. He was over there learning new offense, buying into everything. And I think it was very evident that he is in complete control. He was a maestro. Oh, yeah. I mean, 73, I forget the percentage, 73, 75, something like that. 73% motions, too. I mean, his second highest. So I know motions are obviously a distraction. And for the defense to make things hard. But for the quarterback, he's got to remember all that shit. Okay? So he's got to be very comfortable. He's got to remember it all. And whenever that play clock's going down, there was like seven seconds left. And he was still doing two motions on the play clock. Like, the amount of confidence you have to have in that particular offense to do all that at the quarterback position. And then his swagger just walking in between plays. He was so comfortable. And obviously, I think he has a lot of faith in the offensive line. But that offense as a whole, I think he knows it inside and out, even though it's his first time really running it. I don't know if he broke a sweat. I'm just watching him, right? I'm just watching his highlights. I studied it yesterday afternoon. But, like, I'm not sure he even broke a sweat in this game. But, you know, you just look at the speed that they have on the outside and some of the young kids, the young tight end that they picked up from Hibner from SMU. He was a factor in the game. Run blocking, catching. Mark Andrews has been doing that thing for a long time in Baltimore. But you see all the movement. Getting Lamar out of the pocket, moving him like that. That's just smart football. Like, the guy is great. It's great getting out of the pocket and really putting the defense in a bind right here. And he never takes big hits, you know, because we always wondered, you can't play like that and survive, especially at the quarterback position. He can't survive. He can't survive. It's like, well, some guys have the ability to not get hit. Now, let's pivot back to the shite division, because the Broncos could have been on there, okay? And we didn't put them on there. But we thought there was one piece for that Chiefs team that could have been their big issue, and it turns out not at all. Go ahead, Con, man. Yeah, Baldy, going in, it felt like the spotlight was on that left tackle. And then Khalil Benson, undrafted rookie out of Indiana. Pat mentioned it when he got introduced as a starter. He kind of owned the moment from that part of time on for the rest of the night. Were you surprised by the fact that Nick Benito didn't dominate the game, or were you more impressed by the fact that Khalil Benson in the game plan the Chiefs came out with was just to run the ball down their throat and dominate from start to finish? I wasn't surprised that they came out to try to run it. They had a whopper package in there where they had seven offensive linemen, and a defensive tackle. They took all the receivers, tight ends off the field, and that's a play right there where Kenneth Walker, three sticks, goes 60 yards like that. But Khalil Benson, he started at Colorado, and then he transferred to Indiana. Between what he did at Indiana and what they're doing with Andy Heck on the offensive line in Kansas City, nothing was too big for that kid last night. No, Nick Benito is a Mako shark. That's the fastest shark in the ocean. Like, his takeoff is electric. He wasn't beat by that at all. In fact, he must have, like, anvil for hands. Because when he gets his mitts on you, he ain't giving it up. And he'll stone you. He's got heavy hands. And you can see it. Like, he's light on his feet right there, all kinds of traffic. He's putting guys on their back, little pancake blocks. But he was tall. Like, I was out there in St. Joseph, Missouri this summer, and he was competing for the starting right tackle job. Then they had injury with Trey Smith, the right guard, so he went the right guard. And he played. He made his first snaps at left tackle last night. And you can't tell that he was a rookie, making his first start undrafted. It was an impressive performance. Baldy, how does he go undrafted, actually? Like, he's a national champion. He's huge. Obviously, he has the ability. Isn't that like the draft is what we think he could become, what he think he could become? How does everybody miss? And then he had to go try out, right? It wasn't even like he was an undrafted free agent signing. He had to go try out. How does that happen, you think, actually? It happens every year. I mean, you could just say, okay, everybody talked about the quarterback. Everybody talked about the three receivers they had. They talked about the coach. They don't really talk about the offensive line and what he did against Reuben Bain in the national championship game or anything. They just concentrate on just a couple of people. And even the guys that are going to do their homework, they're looking at size, weight, how fast does he run a 40-yard dash, and all these things can kind of knock you down. And none of them have anything to do with how you can perform. Andy Reid has found free agent offense lineman for 25 years in his sleep. He did it in Philadelphia. He's been doing it in Kansas City. And so he just has an eye for this. He's an old offensive lineman himself. He's got an eye for guys that can stay on their feet, have good balance, have the right amount of toughness, and then just the mentality, Pat, where if you do get beat, you don't need a shrink to talk on the sideline to to get yourself out of a funk. You can kind of get yourself out yourself. You're talking about mental toughness, yeah. We need that. We need it. Okay, you need that. We've been thinking, and we haven't been naming any direct organizations in our private conversations, but it feels like every soft culture loses and every tough culture wins. It just feels like that in football. Probably going to be like that forever, if we had to guess. But that was the thing that stuck out for the Seattle Seahawks hard knocks. I'm like, that is a culture over there. That's a hard-ass culture they got. That's probably going to be good in football. And I like that you're bringing up that Andy Reid has the ability to find those guys as well. I didn't know. I guess I should have assumed he was a former offensive lineman. I just knew he was a punt-passing kicker. You remember? Yeah, that's right. In full pads, had the entire thing. I thought maybe he was playing wide out, but I guess looking at him, he probably was offensive lineman. It's offensive lineman, Pat. We're skilled people. Of course. It's more than just blocking. Some of us can catch a ball. Some of us can kick a ball. Wow. Some of us can dunk a basketball. Some of us can do pretty athletic things. I don't know if any of you can kick a ball. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if any of you can do that. Andy Reid won't the punt-passing kick competition. He was the biggest kid out there. He was a straight-ahead kicker, Pat. What did you see from them week one, and do you think these guys are going to, you know, win a good amount of games this year? Well, they'll be in Los Angeles this weekend, to play the Rams for their home opener. But just being around John, since he was a special teams coach in Philly, it's all about culture, toughness. The team got a lot bigger. You go get a 6'7", tight end in Isaiah Likely. You get a 310-pound fullback in Patrick Ricard. You go get yourself Arvel Reese, a 6'5", 255-pound linebacker. They just got bigger everywhere. And then with that, he trains them hard. There's just no nonsense. There's just no sense around John Harbaugh. And what he gets the guys to do to buy in is go beat the Cowboys on national TV and whip them at the line of scrimmage, and then you'll really get the buy-in. You know what? This guy knows what he's doing. Jackson Dart was protected. The guy was so accurate with all these throws. Now, the Cowboys didn't cover Motor Singletary. I don't know if they knew he was in the uniform or what his name was. They didn't cover him. That helped a little bit against the Giants. But still up front, they did a great job. C.C. Maranoa coming out of the University. Miami trained by Mario Cristobal. The guy was trained so hard down there at Miami. Coming to Harbaugh's camp, this is where he wants to be. This is the culture. This is what they want to be. And I just think they're bigger, tougher, and I think mentally a little tougher. And getting Malik Nabors on the field was a big, big boost to that team. Now he's under center. Saquon Barkley's eight yards deep. Everybody is in two tight end packages. I've seen three tight ends and a fullback. You know, Andy Reid last night said, we're just going to run power football, put a whopper package out there. We don't care if you know we're going to run. Stop it. And so that mentality is back. And it's good. It's good for football. It makes you tackle. It makes you defeat blocks. It protects the quarterbacks better. We need quarterbacks in this league. We need Patrick Mahomes out there. But then you get guys like this. Like. Guys like Kenneth Walker, probably the best game he's ever played. Like, you see his breakaway speed, his cutting ability. You know, his contact balance, just running through tackles. Now, sometimes week one, guys don't tackle for seven months. And then they're asked to, you know, bring down the Super Bowl MVP. But I think this is a real hard trend. And you're going to see it week in, week out. Broadcasters are going to talk about it. Fans are going to know what 13 personalities. They're going to know one back, three tight ends. We're going to know the glossary of tournaments. We're going to know the terms in this run formation right now that we're getting. Yeah. Do you think Saquon and the Eagles kind of showcase that you can do that? Or do you think this is just natural evolution of smaller guys on the defensive side of the ball and offensive coordinators wanting to take advantage of that? 28 missed tackles last night. Yeah. For the Denver Broncos. Yeah, that was pathetic. Yeah, that's bad. Like, that will be highlighted by Sean Payton in the meeting today. All the missed tackles. All the grabbing and diving. They're known as a physical defense, which kind of goes back. Do you think offensive coordinators are like, let's take advantage of these guys who haven't really had to handle physical football? And is this going to be something that continues all season? Or will there come a time where defense – I guess this is more of a question for you, AJ. Do we think, like, these defenses will naturally get better at tackling as they do more tackling through the season? Or are we about to see, like, week 8 through week 12 just old school 1990s, like, smash mouth football? With not the massive amount of points that we saw this past weekend. Because I think the run game was leading to an explosion of points, which is so against, I think, natural philosophy. So, AJ, are these guys going to start tackling? Or do we have a generation of players right now that might not be the right size to be playing against this style of offensive football? No, I think you'll see guys settling. I mean, Baldy pointed out, like, you go seven months without live tackling, all of a sudden you're trying to tackle the Super Bowl MVP who looks more jacked than he's ever been in his whole life. So, yeah, I think the tackling will get better. It's something you get used to. And you get more, like, in game shape, I think. But, yeah, there's a – hopefully we are going to see this out there. And think about it as the season goes, as the elements become a bigger part of the game and you're playing in cold weather climates, like, you're going to need to rely on some of this run game. Got to rep it. Just got to rep it. I think they'll definitely get better. And a lot of things we used to say as defenders is, you know, tackling is about want to. It's kind of like rebounding in basketball. It's about want to because you don't get to practice it. You're never going to practice it against your teammates. So, you're only going to do it live most occasions on game day, Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays. So, yeah, teams will get better. But, Baldy, going to the Bears offense, kind of sticking with the theme of hard-nosed teams, Ben Johnson has brought a hard-nosed brand of football over there. He rushed for over 290 yards, six rushing touchdowns. And they also have the element of that dynamic quarterback play with Caleb Williams. What's your expectations for the Chicago Bears this year? Well, when Ben Johnson came out in August and said, we want to be the highest scoring offense in football of all time, not just this year, of all times, He wants to take down the Patriots offensively. like he wasn't joking he was basically breaking all barriers of everybody in the household not just the players the coaches the secretary we're gonna we're gonna set new records so he's got uh he's got an escape artist in caleb williams and a magician that can just make these kind of plays over and over and over again and then you just see the whole buy-in like on the kyle menon guy 60-yard touchdown run like you watch this block by khalif raymond you know and luther burden like they just knock guys out it was a five-yard run that went 61 yards so it's it's it's how everybody is coached and what the expectations are at every single position theo benedict came in to play left tackle during a game the kid went to the university of british columbia that's the block right there by rain that's cool but theo benedict's from the university of british columbia but there's a toughness to this kid and an athletic ability and you didn't know that he came off the bench because of the way they play that's that catch right there by roman dunes unbelievable catch of the week over will either but yeah i mean this this is great like these blocks are crazy with you watch deandre swift and blitz pickup protecting his quarterback like he's just stoning guys four times in that game just stone rushers bobby okariki came and bobby okariki stopped like they didn't get near the quarterback this is good stuff this is the stuff that gets you excited here pat on a monday afternoon in the film room yeah i could have met and also on a tuesday afternoon here as baldy's laying out what you're pumped up about so you're saying this is sustainable and this is something we need to just get used to because him projecting about wanting to be the highest scoring offense in the history of the nfl was that him potentially saying hey i really like where caleb is right now verse where he was last year because we all know that ben johnson's offense if it's being operated at a high clip by the quarterback it is going to be successful i mean what he did to jared goff up there in detroit and what the detroit lions became under his leadership on the offensive side was electrifying and seemingly unstoppable in the biggest moments always had a third down play in the back pocket always had a red zone play in the back pocket the two must have situations he always took advantage of and if you could just play in that system the system will win and the system will do great i think he knew where caleb was and where do you think caleb is right now in this system because it looks spectacular under center gunter reads and then everything we thought he would be able to add to the jared goff detroit lions offense he was with those long ass runs should we expect that caleb's only going to get better like he said afterwards or do we think he's operating this offense how it's supposed to operate as they score 59 points in their opening week they scored 59 points and he was awesome they put up almost 600 yards of offense and they left points on the field you know that's the thing like there was more points to be scored carolina kept him to 60. they could have scored 80 you know so it's it's that kind of mentality but caleb is i remember doing a at a high school football camp with caleb when he was at gonzaga high school in dc and i took him into the film room he he already knew exactly how to defeat every coverage and then you went out and you watch him throw and you're like that's an nfl arm when he was in high school and then you see this balance and athletic ability his ability to see the whole field i mean his tight end didn't catch a ball his starting tight end didn't catch a ball and and yet like this throw right here at cole commit the other tight end like that's a drag wheel route everybody has it in their playbook not everybody can make that throw against great coverage of carolina so i mean i think anything is possible right now uh especially when they can run the ball and how they continue to run the ball short yardage third and five they're running the football they just have to be able to do it you know because that team's coming to indiana yeah you're right and then you can make the official switch with me well whoa i'm not doing that one thing about ben johnson pat like there's no rat poison okay being swallowed at hallows hall diving from the surface for a minute and a half two minutes down there you got to be lean you got to be lean you got to have great you know lung capacity like that's what free divers do what hold on he's two what's your deepest what's your deepest dive i can i can free dive to 50 or 60 feet i don't need to go any deeper than that because there's no reason to but i've seen those documentaries diving to 50 feet it was great so do you have um down there calls obviously going all that yeah are you doing any fishing but also follow up you have the merman floppers on i don't have i just got i got good flippers i got good free diving flippers man so i you know a couple little couple little flutters and i could be down the bottom pretty quick okay so you're on your way down the bottom you're on your way down the bottom okay so boat, they take you out to a diving spot. They say, hey, if you're able to get to 50 feet, you'll be able to see sharks. You'll be able to see. Is that kind of is this like I might want to get into this. My ears will pop every single day. of time because the amount of pressure i assume but yeah just just got to clear it clear the ears but i i swim out to the reef just swim out to the reef and then i go down you know when i when i see something interesting down oh so you're just kind of casual swimming around and then all of a sudden wait what's down there let me go and bang two and a half minutes down there you see a big loggerhead or something you know like this is this is cozumel down here like big school of fish down here there we go how long you've been going down there with uh with no oxygen uh well i mean i i can scuba with the best of them but i like that right there i just like holding a breath and going to take a look and go down there for a minute minute and a half maybe take a spear gun with you find a lobster or something like that like it's just entertaining pat you never know what you're gonna see down here you're from pittsburgh yeah north hills love that so you go down in monongahela is that how we got started i like visit visibility pat the visibility of the monongahela just isn't isn't my cup of tea when did you get into this have you always been a water A.J., don't you think it's been a phenomenal start to the football season this year? Almost record-setting points already this year. Oh, the NFL has shown up in a big way. And college has just had chaos already happen. So football. Football is awesome. And I think we're all lucky to be experiencing it. And we can't wait for next week to start. But we need to point out something that hasn't been pointed out yet. Okay? Obviously, everybody's saying the defenses are ass. Defenses actually could just potentially be the entire AFC and NFC division in of themselves. You know? And a lot of ex-NFL players and ex-NFL coaches are coming out saying, these guys don't even know how to tackle. They don't know how to cover anybody. These guys don't treat the preseason. With any respect, because all they want to do is get to the regular season. They're just ass for the first three, four weeks. That's how we should just be viewing what defense is going to be going forward. I don't know if that's necessarily true. Because there's a lot of things that actually happen on the defensive side that are pretty electrifying. Massive plays. Huge turnovers that aren't just happening but are being forced. And that's why we decided that we have to do D-Butts, Peanut, Ponchak, Spotlight. Yeah, boys! You see, that's D-Butt there with the Ponchak. But it's actually Peanut, Ponchak. We don't want to give anybody else credit because Chuck Pagano tried to do that a couple years back with the NFL with a video about this. But the Ponchak, obviously, Peanut Tillman made it so damn famous. He had precision strikes, was able to get turnovers, forced them. Then it's kind of evolved through the league. Now it seems like it is something that is taught, expected, and certainly executed. First week had a bunch of them, D-Butt. Absolutely. We had 44 turnovers across the league. That's up 14 from last year in week one. Now, last year was more of a down year. And we were in the league. This was something we saw, but we didn't see it really every week. Peanut Tillman was the guy that made it popular, obviously, well before that. We all know it originated with Chuck Pagano back at Wyoming. But then we had Peanut. We had Darius Leonard. We had Marlon Humphrey. We have these guys who kind of made it. Fred Warner, we see him do it week in and week out. And it's something we see in practice every day with teams kind of focusing on running backs have to go back to the huddle, and we're still punching out, punching out, punching out of the ball. So, yes, tackling was shitty week one, and it will get better. I think as the season goes on, communicating, new defensive coordinators, new play calls. But I love what I'm seeing from all these punch outs, these forced fumbles. Now, ball carriers, you got to be aware when guys are chased from behind. And you can see from this tape, we got D linemen. We got big boys in the trenches getting in on the punch outs now. We got linebackers getting in on the punch outs now. And obviously, we always have DBs getting in on the punch outs. So, these punch outs are more valuable. I don't care how many yards you give up throughout the game. If you create turnovers, we know how important that is. Teams for defenses, that could be the difference in a lot of these games. So, I love what we're seeing with the evolution of these punch outs week in and week out. AJ, you used to have to, like, sacrifice the tackle for the punch out. Now, it feels like there's a method of getting both body on them and fist on them. I think that this one, Fred Warner, he's going to certainly stop the motion of the runner. But then also, let's get a shot in there if we can. The only downfall is you hit elbow, hit something else, you break hand. But it feels like guys are much more confident throwing these things, AJ. Than maybe back in the day. Yeah, they're so accurate, I feel like. It's something that they work on in practice now. Like, it's part of your individual periods. But what you see now, like, right there, that's like old school. Hey, first guy up. If you're the second or third guy in, let's get a strip or a punch attempt at the ball. Like, that's always how we were taught back in the day. Now, you're the first guy in. If you see that ball exposed at all, you are going for it. It's awesome to see, like, how good they are at it. Also, think about if you're a receiver or you're a running back. This happens a few times early in the game. And you know a team's attacking. It's going to slow you down a little bit. Especially when you're running in some traffic. Like, you are not going to be all loosey-goosey with that thing when you see defenses doing this. D, but I like that you did this because a lot of people were saying the defenses were bad. It sounds like we actually saw some good out of some of the defenses as well. But these lead immediately to points normally. Absolutely. Now, points, obviously, is the most important thing. We know it in the building. Points, then it's field position, and it's winning the turnover battle. So, the more turnovers that you can create. Now, defensive coordinators, defensive coaches, you're going to go in the building. Everybody's going to go. And grade their players. But the main thing is winning that turnover battle. We go in. If we get three turnovers as a defense, we expect to win that game. I don't care how many points the offense puts up. So, stopping those drives. You know, bread zone efficiency on defense as well. But these punch outs, man. These are very, very valuable. And, like, tackling, that's usually a difference. One big difference of the very, very good defense and, like, the average defense, the open field tackling. You hear me and A.J. talk about it all the time. Like, guys stapling guys to the ground in the open field. That's big. You've got to work on that. You've got to. You've got to get better on that as the season goes on. But I don't care if you're in OTAs with shorts and T-shirts on. You're practicing punching the ball out at all times. And we're seeing it be more effective now on Sundays. You talk about your defense wanting to have three turnovers. And it doesn't matter what the offense does. Stats coming out of the first weekend about turnover differential. Yeah, it seems I want a turnover differential this weekend. We're 13-0. And it felt like we saw that, especially last night. Like, there were even big moments where, you know, sometimes the other team, of course, you can turn the ball over. I mean, we saw it with Patrick Mahomes. He threw his interception. And all of a sudden, it looks like the Broncos are set up first in goal. They're going to go in and score again. But then that gives Kansas City a huge opportunity for their defense to shine again. They almost get another turnover. That was the play that you were talking about right before the last break where the guy stepped out of bounds and got that fumble from Bo Nix. Unfortunately, the Broncos kept it. But I believe they won the turnover battle as well. And, you know, that's just part of it, too. There's a reason to practice it. Like, if you get a turnover, you get two turnovers, especially with the way guys are carrying the football now. You give your team a huge advantage. You give your team a huge advantage to win the football game. And it does feel like we see that, and we also see it with points. It's great for us. You turn that ball over in the red zone, especially in the other area. Like, all of a sudden, you're setting your team up for success. You're going to score more. I always say that the negative side of it is breaking your hand. Do we ever hear of anybody breaking their shit on this? Negative side is that you possibly might miss a few tackles throughout the course of a year if you're the first guy going for it. But the other positive thing, too, like I said, it slows running backs and people down. Like, you teach, like, little kids. Hey, let's punch at that ball. If I miss, I'm hitting them in the ribs, the kidney, the back, the stomach. Like, we're beating this team up as well. Well, that was kind of a part of it, right, because guys were letting guys fall to the ground, not touching them. And then as soon as they stood up, just punching them right in the ribs and starting them, that was like something that started happening. And the NFL was like, excuse me, we're not doing body blows, okay? TJ Watt, a few years ago, if you remember, he was throwing hay. He loved throwing that punch in there. And the NFL was like, hey, we don't want to have to judge intent on many things. Because, you know, people don't love it. But you have to at least look like you're going for the ball. Oh, yeah. Listen, AJ, yeah, I got to tell him, hey, listen, you missed the ball. You missed the ball. Quinnen Williams, though, it was like broad daylight with the angle we had. He's punching and rapping at the same time. It's like a tackle form and a technique now at this stage. And AJ's teaching it going forward. So he's not going to miss that tackle if he does miss the punch. It's a really good. It's good. It's an art form and a talent, I think, to have. I was going to ask AJ, because you're obviously teaching like young kids now. Like when we were younger, it was helmet on the football. Are they still teaching helmet on the football? Are they teaching more of this? Maybe they're too young for what you're dealing with. But do you know through high school, through college, like what they're teaching now as far as this is concerned? Well, how they teach tackling, I think, is a different world. They have this hawk tackle situation head behind, which I cannot subscribe to. I don't know exactly how it works. I agree. It's called the hawk tackle, like after you? No, it's like with the Seattle Seahawks. They kind of made it a thing, you know, the rugby situation. It's how they try to keep the head. and make your head out of it and make tackling safer, I guess, just in certain little angle situations. Wait, so your head's not across the body anymore? No, I teach, you bite the ball. I think a lot of coaches still teach bite the ball, which means teaches you, hey, my eyes need to be up. You always said head on the ball, but if you say bite the ball, it's like, okay, I've got to be able to see the ball. Therefore, my forehead's going right on the ball. Well, I saw Myles Garrett practice in this too, didn't we? Yeah, he was. Worked out for him. Damn it. Wow, we didn't even think. Did we put those exercises he was doing? Yeah, the explosion up. Maybe that was so different for his knee. Maybe that guy had such different technique that his knee just couldn't handle the explosion. That's true. And the government wants to get behind it and have a presidential fitness test and maybe make this something special. You obviously give away $1.2 million for a kick on a Saturday. You don't think maybe a future fitness test for, like, the next 20 years, 30 years would be something that I'd be very inspired to do for the next generation to be fitness and win a bunch of money and have goals and aspirations to stay in shape and do that thing? Okay, so, like, that was in my head what I was doing. Lo and behold, though, every decision that was made by President Trump, because that was my intention, I agree with, I guess, is everything that he has ever done in his entire life, in this entire thing. And that is not how a majority of people feel, but it is a significant portion of our society at this stage, in 2026, where if you just, if you have an idea of what this is for, even, and I will say, I was pretty oblivious to the reality of the situation in this, because, once again, what I thought I was doing versus what everybody ended up telling me I was doing is just so vastly different. But I think that is something that is just very real. I believe, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe everybody on College Game Day was like, this isn't really, you know, what it should be. But I don't think everybody fully understood just how bad it was going to go in real time, you know, especially with how hot it was. But that's the reality of the business. Like, we have learned that, and that has been a lesson that has been very loud and will continue to be loud, because in the politics world, the politic pundit and the politic accountant and the pundits on the internet and the political people, you know, it's life or death, every single decision that has been made for them, which is, I understand, because politics has actual sway on how people's lives are going to go. So that's how they act. So there's no, like, hey, we think the Protect College Sports Act would be good for college sports as a whole. There's a, what, 860 commissioners? Everybody that is in the sport and around the world of college sports likes this. So we would like this to be something that is topical and maybe get a vote done that the future of all college sports is in a much better place and a safer space. But what ends up happening is, what did Ted Cruz vote for on this? Is this what you're, this is what you're, this is what you're, this is what you're, this is what you're? And it's like, I don't know if anybody's even hearing what he's saying. I think they're just thinking of things that he's done in the past and immediately saying this is what it is. And that's what 2026 is. I think that's the world that we're in. And, yeah, I think everybody's kind of just kind of learning and experiencing as we go here what it's like. Oh, boy. Because that's a whole nother angle that then gets started. It's like, okay, you got to be able. I am going to have to make that happen because of what everybody said to me about this entire thing. So that is goal going forward. That little Midas will have an opportunity to potentially win like a million dollars because he's an absolute beast. Now granted, we hope that is with any administration going forward. But in real time with where we're starting, obviously people don't know if that's the case. And there's a lot of people talking about what our demographic is and who our demographic is. I don't think you feel that way. Fucking no. I don't think you have any idea what our demographic is because we literally just try to be sports. And we haven't been perfect with that.
