PGA Championship 2026 Betting Tips - Golf Betting System Podcast
73m 1s
In Episode 396 of the Golf Betting System podcast, hosts Steve Bamford, Barry Hanran, and Paul Williams preview the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. The course, restored by Gil Hanse to Donald Ross’s original design, features wide fairways but challenges players with 180 bunkers and large, fast Penn A1A4 bentgrass greens. Unlike typical long PGA layouts, defense comes from green speed and tucked pin positions, with a predicted winning score around 12-under. Weather could affect firmness: early rain may soften conditions, while weekend warmth and wind could tighten scoring. The hosts highlight recent major trends, noting that the last four winners all finished top-8 at Augusta, and discuss the unpredictability of LIV players’ stats. Last week saw notable victories: Yurav Premlal won the Catalonia Championship by 14 shots at 500-1 odds, J.T. Poston claimed the Truist Championship, and 45-year-old Brad Schneidica ended a seven-year drought at the Myrtle Beach Classic. Paul’s stats lab offers free betting insights, including form sheets and predictor models. The hosts also reflect on the strong form of emerging European talent like Robert MacIntyre, who has three global wins in 12 months. They advise betting responsibly and direct listeners to their website for detailed course analysis and long-shot previews.

For those who leave a review, I will read them out the star of a future show. Leave your name and where you are in the review. This one is from Water and Sand and Water is in the United States of America. Entitled top notch five stars. The only golf podcast I listen to. One of a kind. Research and delivery. Unparalleled pronunciation of Chilian golfer. I haven't done these for a while. Mita Perea and Wackenemon. Steve, Barry and Paul hit all the high points like pros while keeping it fun. Mucking through the same uncertainties as the rest of us trying to hit one on the nose. Cheers, Jents. That is from Water and Sand in the United States. A very succinct but I love the five star review. Thanks for your time. Brilliant stuff. Thanks for taking the time to do that and let's hope we can hit one on the nose this week. Oh, the Wacken! Wacken is actually playing Barry this week. Is he coming for him? I mean hitting one of the nose seems like I'd like to get a glancing blow on the nose at this stage. I just sink the last couple of weeks. Can we get ourselves back together here for the Peachtree Championship? This is the week, Barry. I presume you're not backing Wackenemon, Steve. Well, I have done in previous majors as you know, but not this week. I'm not accusing you of crimes in the past. I've actually turned my back on live players this week after the tremendously poor performance of John Rahm and Brighton D-Shambot at the Masters. I have also done that. You know what listeners are thinking straight away, don't you, Barry? Yeah, exactly back to live. I don't trust what they did back at the Masters and it made me not trust the Stroke Skane stats from live. So I mean, they could be perfectly accurate, but it feels to me like they're getting a little bit inflated. I don't know. Let's see, prove me wrong live guys. Play awesome here at Aronement and then revisit. The stats point is interesting, Barry, because the numbers are high in comparison to even the DP World Tour. And certainly the PJ Tour when you try and draw comparisons between the two. I suspect it's more down to the nature of the courses that they're playing and the relative easiness of some of the courses there. But yeah, I have actually backed a couple of live players, but certainly not those guys near the top of the market. There's a lot of question marks, isn't there, with everything that's kicking off in the golf world at the moment. Most people will be tuning in clearly for PJ Championship Tips. We all have new listeners. Welcome all. Don't forget to subscribe if you're listening on YouTube to the channel. But quickly, let's quickly run through last week's. We can. We do have a habit of talking about last week for 30 minutes. But let's keep this brief. Firstly, Alex Smolley, back on my post it note of the. Secondly, Paul, we had three amazing winners I thought last week. We had from a DP World Tour perspective. We had Yurav Premlal, winning the Catalonia Championship by the mere matter of 14 shots. That was a new record on the DP World Tour outside of major championships. Tiger Woods won the 2000 US Open, of course. Mythical victory by 15 shots. But that DP World Tour success also continued on the PGA Tour. First return took out the truest championship at Guaohola. His first PGA Tour win and at a loaded signature event. Now, I'm not sure you're going to be able to give us some, you know, lots of details around Premlal. But what were your thoughts on both Premlal and and Ratan in terms of their victories last week? Firstly, that Premlal performance was just incredible, wasn't it? If you look back and try and rationalise, and you know, we do this each week and we beat ourselves up when you miss a winner and someone who was staring in the face. I don't think you can say the same about Premlal, who was 500 to 1 pre-event. It was a thousand on the exchange. If you just look in isolation at his DP World Tour level starts over the years, he's played 28, I measured or recorded. And he has one top 20 prior to last week in those 28 stars. The week before he shot 75, 79 and missed the cut by a mile in Turkey. So you look at this kind of player and you'd say, well, I'm just going to put a line for him because he's not going to win. But there's undoubtedly an incredible player there to do what he did last week to play in the manor that he did to take an average field on the DP World Tour. But to absolutely lap them and lap them twice effectively was just incredible. But yeah, there was some promise there because he won back on the big easy tour when he was a 15 year old. So there was some noise about him back then. Only one other sunshine tour wins in the stand and then goes and does that. Just one of those incredible performances. And as you say, was you know, teaching on the edge of some break in all sorts of records last week in the end. But yeah, as for Rhettan, yeah, Rhettan, Rhettan. I always think of furniture at that point. Oh, I knew he was going there. It's the season. Right, Rhettan, I just called him. Yeah, look, it shows him form on the PJ tour. I think he's done well since he's come onto the PJ tour since getting his card and had a cracking season last year when the suit out one the net bankers well didn't he back end of last year. So there's a player there and I thought it was impressive the way he held it together on Sunday. There's many a player who's found themselves in that position seeking out a breakthrough win on the PJ tour and would just melt over those last two or three holes. No, you wouldn't have bought it an eyelid if he shot 74 on Sunday or you know, went, you know, bogey double bogey to finish or double par a bogey to, you know, really really impressive. Yeah, absolutely. You kind of half expecting that as it's, you know, pushes coming to shove down the down the stretch and it's difficult finish anyway and and and players have dropped away a little bit. Ricky was right up there and bogey the last in the which could have set a really competitive total but now I was super impressed the way turned that turn that into victory in the end. So good because the the fail happens more often than not. So that's our condition to expect them particularly impressive when somebody who's playing was 15 start on the PJ tour. shows the composer and just gets it in.
I have to see him any quite comfortably. Yeah, too. Like, can we just, we whisper it like, "Rider Cup player?" Carry on winning Barry and anything's possible, isn't it? That's three wins in the space at 12 months now globally and anyone who's producing that kind of level of conversion is going to be on all sorts of radars in the future. Well, he's got the platform now, isn't he? He's got the platform. Yeah, exactly. He's in every event. Yeah. Hasn't got to worry about membership on either tour. He can pick and choose where he wants to play. Yeah, and getting pay PGH or you get the highest ranking points. Yeah. I mean, I look at spotters at 16 months away, so we're at their bouts, but. It's after the keeping them on the high on the watch list for, this could be a rookie. Yeah, absolutely. Really impressive. Rory McAroy mentioned him and Alex Fitzpatrick in his last interview before leaving Quailhalla, saying, "Again, just this new breed of European talent and you know where he's heading with that comment, it's clearly. He's rubbing his hands because it's strengthened in that rider cup, to him, potentially. Or giving at least more options to choose from." Yeah. Yeah. So. It's all good. I thought it'd also be worth quickly mentioning, Brad Braunch-Nedica, who took out the one flight, Myrtle Beach Classic. That was his 10th PGH tour win, and we did say a couple of weeks ago about these players, a trend of guys that hadn't won for a long period of time winning. Well, Brad Schenig, I hadn't won since the 2018 Wyndham Championship when I was actually on in, believe it or not, I know that's crazy. That was 7 and 3/40 years ago. And this is the point. You know, you said about trying to post-rationalize Paul. Well, I've looked into this quickly. Across my eight-week strokes gained data. Schneedica ranked joint first for total strokes gained in that field last week. He was 175 to 1, and I didn't have a penny on him. Yeah. Yeah. He's now fully exempt through to 2028. He's 45 years of age. I mean, this is a fantastic story. So he's now got another two and a half years of PGH tour goal guaranteed. He won $720,000, which for him isn't really the deal, but I did like this bit. He won $250,000 in private jet time from the title sponsor. Very nice. Now he will use that. There are a couple of laps in the world without I expect. He's been flashing, isn't he? Was it Valspar where he was right in the mix with Fitzpatrick? Yeah, top 20 in the end, I think, wasn't it? He fell away on the Sunday, but he didn't fall away this week in a lower tier event. No, really good. You got a blame, Justin Rose for this. For these guys coming back through and their four isn't finding another way to win. Yeah, I was just jumping in to say something like those lines like, "Are you going to add an over 40 slider on the predictor model?" You could do. Yeah, over 40. Has it won in over how many years? I think it's going to be a minimum of four. It should make it harder to win. What a victory. Even with the model spating number one at you, you're thinking, "Yeah, but he's 45, he has one eight years." Logic says this is not going to connect, so we just don't put a five for each way, I'm at 175 to one. So Gary Woodland was 90 to one when he broke his hoodo. Snedica was 175 to one. What about Bern-Veezeburg at the other week? It was in the 40s or 50s? Yeah, maybe a little bit longer for that now, but yeah, there's a few of them that have found a way. They've given me hope about one of my selections later on. I must say. Did we just ignore the odds then? Just go and paste on their age. Right, let's talk PGO Championship Chaps. A Ronnamink Golf Club, Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, basically the outskirts of Philadelphia. As I always do at these major tips, podcasts, previous, please refer to our previous podcast, which has got over an hour of chat about the course, trends, what you need to be looking out for. Because we just can't fit it all into this podcast. So if you go to episode 395, there is as much research chat as you require. My take on this, and some of this has been validated over the weekend, is that this course won't play like the 2018 BMW Championship, where it was soggy, soft, damp, receptive. The defence of this golf course is, of course, 180 bunkers, and also these 8,200 square feet on average. Greens, which feature Penn A1A4 Bengrasse. It's the stimp, it's the speed. This golf course, designed by Ross and restored by Gill Hans. There are both Ross and Hans variables on this week's predictor model at Goldbeng system. It's all going to be about tucking pins and greens that have a lack of receptiveness to them. That's the plan from Kerry Hyg at the PGA of America. Because this golf course was restored by Gill Hans to have wider fairways as per Donald Ross's original design. So the big drivers can get the bull out here around here. It's all about, though, plotting, avoiding bunkers, strategising and having the accuracy with your approach play to access these tucked pins that are going to be in ridges, in bowls. You're going to have to use contours of greens to access a lot of these pin positions. That's my take on it. The golf course is not a standard PGA championship long golf course. Rory McRoy mentioned it again over the weekend. He went up there last week. One of his, it isn't a long golf course where he's words. So I've categorised it as medium length. It's not a pushover, but 7,400 yards these days on a par 70 is not an overtly, onerously long golf course. So it isn't the length of the golf course that's going to be a defense. Not that that ever really is. It's going to be whether they can get this course up to the lack of receptiveness that they need to to make this a. My gut feel is I reckon it's going to be like a 12 under sort of winning total around there. Yeah, tends to be the MO, doesn't it, of the PGA championship in general, apart from the outlying years, but somewhere in that kind of eights and 12 bracket, it seems to be the accepted norm. It's like a US Open Light. In terms of the scoring anyway. I think, I think, Chef LeWan 11, but he won by a few, didn't he last year at Kuala Hollow? Yeah, there's been a few hovering around that kind of eights and 13 bracket. I think you're right, I think I can see it coming into the same kind of area again. I'm checking out the weather as we speak, because there is a threat. Of rain on Wednesday. A little bit here on my route. Yeah, it seems to be kind of the chance of rain is actually increasing. It looks like it's going to happen. I mean, at the moment on the Vindag round, it's quoting early hours of Thursday morning when the players are asleep tucked away in their beds. It's quoting a 90% chance of rain, but it looks like it's not a great
duration of rain if you see what I mean. I think it's going to be a bit misty, a bit wet, a bit murky when they turn up at the golf course. I've checked here that there is no sub-air on this golf course. So you know the plan of making this as firm and as fast as they can do in May in Philadelphia, you know, we've got to work with Noja here. You wonder how scuppered this potential rain that plan could become. Anyway, it's something we can't judge sitting on a Tuesday morning over in Europe. There's no judge. But keep your eye on the forecast. I mean, if there's a big deluge from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday, all of a sudden you might have a course that's very attackable for at least the Thursday into the Friday. I think the forecast is actually fairly interesting. It seems to be split in two from what I was seeing. It looks a bit murky, a bit windy and not overly warm on the Thursday and the Friday. And then all of a sudden over the weekend, the Saturday looks moving day. Looks like it's going to be a real moving day. It's going to warm up to 24 Celsius, 75 Fahrenheit and very little wind. And then Sunday, it's going to be even warmer than that. 27 to 28 Celsius, 81 83 Fahrenheit. But Sunday looks breezy. 15 to 25 mile hour westerlies. So that'll be interesting to see if I mean if they get there wish, how firmly going to keep these greens? Let them cook. Yeah, I don't mean they're going to particularly cook that kind of level. No, it's not it's not hot enough for a start. No, you're just yeah, especially with the start of the week being a bit murky, Wednesday Thursday might be a little bit receptive and then you might just get that kind of dry top layer where you get a bit of bounce just a little bit. So it's interesting. I'm seeing a little bit different on the way at the weather models I have Steve, but variable is is nice. You know, different wind directions, different temperatures. It's going to be a good challenge. So and it should be an interesting watch. Yeah, we'll change the way some of the holes play as well with the wind changing. So that'll keep it very it would make it very interesting to watch. Yeah. Thursday afternoon is 12 to 14 degrees Celsius, like an open championship in flaming July in the UK. Bubble high temperatures. Yeah. Anything else you want to mention before we get into our tips? No, I think we covered most of it off on the previous podcast, didn't we? The course, I think and if you're going back to the predictor, there is a variable on there relating to the 2018 PGA or BMW championship. So you can see the players that perform well that week as to how much of a point to that will really be. Yeah, it remains to be seen, I think, because as to your point, Steve, it's likely to play quite different and a little bit tougher. But you know, wider, wider course nowadays compared to how it was back in the day. And as you say, bunkers, it should create a different kind of challenge, I think. A little bit more. Better be because just look at Steve's previews. Nice. It'll start here in 2018. It played to an average of 67.88 was just over two strokes easier than par. I was ranked 429, date of 51 courses for the year. But in previous iterations, 2011, 2010, it was ranked eighth and 12th out of the season. So it can play property. Well, how we'd like it to play. So figures course, you get something close to that. Be entertaining where you know, it's got to be jeopardy. Murdies available, bogies and dobbles. Yeah, yeah, I think you're right. I think there's the scope for the course to present some challenges. And that's evident from the old AT&T's. So yeah, we shall see. Okay. I placed two of my four PGO Championship bets with bet 365. If you're 18 plus and do not have a bet 365 sports account, you can find details of their bet 10 pounds, get 30 pounds in free bets and you custom promotion plus a link through to that very offer with teas and seas in this podcast description. Visit golf betting system.co.uk/365. That's golf betting system.co.uk/365 for 30 pounds of free bets with bet 365. Now if you take the last nine majors here with the winners. So I'm going back doing some mental arithmetic to the 2024 Masters. Chef LaForto 1 favourite. Zander, 18 to 1/5 favourite. D-shambo, 20 to 1/6 favourite. See in the pattern here. Then Zander won the open, 14 to 1/3 favourite. On to 2025. Macaroid, 13 to 2 second favourite. Chef LaForto 1 joined favourite. Spawn, here's the one that throws it. 125 to 1 for J.J. One the US open. Oakmon, the last time that these pros played in Pennsylvania. Chef LaForto 1 favourite and of course, last time out, Rawly Macaroid. He couldn't do it. He wasn't going to do it. He couldn't do it. He won. Defended. His green jacket. 12 to 1/4 favourite believe it or not. Behind of course our Ram, our live friends, both John Ram and Bryson D-shambo in the betting. I'm just giving you some background because that's where I'm heading with my selections. Paul also mentioned a very interesting trend on the research preview. The previous episode where I think the last four of these had finished in the top. Eight at Augusta. That's right. It seems to be good. I have gone at the top. Rawly Macaroid, six points win. Eight to 1 with Betfred. I loved Rawly's performance last week at Quail Hollow. Saturday he had problems with the left again and he referenced that in his interviews. He said that the problem he's having this year on occasion is he said something along the lines of all week at Quail Hollow. There was a left to right wind on the practice facility. That kind of got ingrained in his swing whereby he was aiming just a snitch too far left. That's but once he'd re-engineered that again Saturday after his round into Sunday. Those two sixty-seven he shot on Friday and Sunday. I thought were very, very representative of what's actually under the bonnet if he wants to press that accelerator. He was first for Stroke's Gained Off party last week at Quail. That doesn't surprise you. He was 14th for Stroke's Gained On Approach which I thought was a nice number. He was actually fifth for Stroke's Gained Bull Striking. First for Driving Distance. Third for Greens in Regulation. A number I really like for this week and ninth for Bull Striking. I genuinely think now that Rawly with his six major victories defending the Masters Green jacket. He's the kind of guy now that's hunting legacy and he's hunting major victories. Don't forget he sits T12 at the moment all time with major wins. If he was to win this week at the PGO that would be his third PGO Championship his seventh major and it would put him alongside Harry Vardin, Bobby Jones, Gene's Harrison, Sam Sneed and Arnold Palmer. I think Rawly McAroy is going to be super focused and dialed in. He was fifth when they played here in 2018. Yeah and I think you need to put that fifth place into context as well because that was on a low scoring week not necessarily going to be up Rawly's Alley particularly if the putter isn't firing which it was kind of neutral that week wasn't it? But if you look at the rest of his stats from that week first Ruff the T first reproach first for T to Green that suggests that he's kind of got the measure of the long game challenge around a runner-mink. So yeah I can see where you're coming from Steve. I've taken exactly the same view. I've gone win only at the top with with Rory as well.
I think it's a question of motivation, isn't it? What is the next step for Rory? What is going to float his boat over the next few years having achieved what he has achieved so far in the world of golf? And you talk about the adding to his major. Tally, I think that's very relevant. He retained the masters. So as you said, that kind of ticked that off the list when we and many other observers were looking and thinking, well, that it's so rare that doesn't happen that he's not going to be able to do that. Of course, he did that. And having won that masters, that gives him a crack at the season grand slam. And how many opportunities is he going to have in the remainder of his career to be in that position after the masters to think, actually, I'm playing decent golf. And the rest of these majors set up really nicely for me. If I can win the PGA championship, then halfway there, I think that's got to be a massive motivate factor. If he can start setting new targets, creating new ground that he can break over the next few years, then that's going to be what's going to keep Rory at the top of his game, I think. Big opportunity this week for Rory. Big opportunity. I was slightly-- I don't know what you boys think. I was slightly surprised to see him at eight to one. He's not being particularly popular, is drifting out a little bit as well. Well, neither, yeah, neither, Shephler. It's-- and we often see this in the market with the favourites. And then on the Wednesday or early Thursday, you'll find, over here, UK time, you'll find there's a late plunge for the favourites once they've drifted out to a level that punters think, well, might as well take a chance on that prize. Do you think that's a-- there's a lot of big money waits for that moment as well, Paul? Potentially, yeah, potentially. And-- oh, yeah. I don't know. Are they waiting to see what the practice rounds are like? Are they waiting to hear what they say and interview? And just make sure there's no lingering issues of any description that might prevent a hefty punt on a short-priced favourit or second favourite. But to Steve's point, I expected him to be a little bit closer to Scott in the market. Yeah, I don't know. It's interesting. There's a lot to play for this week in terms of-- in terms of roaring, what he-- achievements. Can he go back to back with Majors? Yeah, he's done it in the past, so interesting to say. The other one I've gone for at the top-- and if you're just looking at post winners, people in hot form players that are playing well often get the job done at the PGO. Yeah, it's often like you're slapping your forehead with the palm of your hand. If you haven't backed the obvious one, so I've just gone for Kamiya. Three points each way, 12 to 1. Again, with Betfred, I've got that eight places each way with Betfred. They do actually have up to 12 places available via extended markets with Betfred this week, as do Bet365, of course. Three of the last four PGO champions it's been won by players ranked in the top three of the data-goal rankings on arriving. Sheffield was fired to one joint favourite coming off a victory at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson a fortnight earlier. He ranked number one, hardly surprising. 24 saw number two ranked Zander Showflay winner 18 to 1. He'd finished second behind Rory McRoy the week before at Quail Hollow. Plus in 2022, Justin Thomas again ranked number two in the data-goal rankings, arriving with a solid fifth at the preceding Byron Nelson the week before. All four of the last PGO championship winners had finished in the top eight of the preceding Masters tournament across Sheffield, Zander, Keppka and Thomas. 22 through 25. Cam Young fits that narrative. Clearly, won the players, won the Cadillac, went out in the second last group at Quail Hollow. Which of course he hadn't really done much at previously. I'm not too worried about his Sunday. I just think, you know, he grew up in New Jersey. The economy is going to suit the course. He's going to suit. I'm pretty certainly going to have played this June his June your days. You know, it's on the East Coast and all part of the college amateur system. I just think Cam Young's a great bet. He does everything well. I genuinely think that this is going to be a kind of total driving all round test as Barry alluded to last week. If you can hit it long straight, avoid the bunkers, get your approach prey on track. You'll win by 14. You'll win by 14. Just have all elements of your game firing at exceptional levels. It's not going to be an issue. The thing that gets me with Cam is he's kind of playing by numbers. Some weeks he's fantastic with the driver. Another week he's great with the approach play. Another week he's absolutely read up with a putter. But it's all coming together in these super performances. So yeah, I just think Cam Young is obvious. But this could be his first major winner, I think. I think it suits him. And he will win one. He may well win more than one. He's showing that level of competence and attitude. You know, I think he's going to get some support. It's not a million miles away from New Jersey, from the New York area. I just think that Cam Young is obvious. I really had a close eye on Zander last week. And it just wasn't happening. The other one that you could really throw out there and say, look, this guy is playing absolutely exceptional golf right now. And again, I had a very, very, very close look at him as Matt Fitzpatrick. I think this course could suit Fitzpatrick as well, because it's not overly long. It's not your typical PGA championship 7,700 yard golf course, which is too long for him. This is in his wheelhouse. So I think, you know, if you're looking to me, you're saying to Steve, give me some near misses, Fitzpatrick was close. Clearly, Oberg is bullstriking brilliantly. So they're the two at the top that I also looked at. Fleetwood, he played quite nicely last week. But in the end, I plumped for Rory, Winne only, and Cam Young at the top. Where are you guys coming in at? Clearly, Paul, you're in with me with Rory. Where are you pitching your first bet, Barry? I'm flummox to the top of the market. Sorry, with the exception of Rory. But everybody else in a round, it's like I'm putting a highlighter and also a faint line through them at the same time. So I'm on the Rory Winne only bet at this stage, whatever starts and history is there about not being able to do something. He's just rewriting those or he's torn up the book. So everything, like you said, under the bonnet is really good. And the man just has building new layers of belief that he never had before, which is saying a lot for somebody who was already at a ridiculous level. So yeah, I can't not bet him. I've put a few kind of mid-ards bets on. So trying to not get carried away by booking half the field. I see the case for Cam Young. What are your concerns with Young, Ram, Zander, Oberg, and Fitzpatrick? Go through those ones, because you said that you're tempted, but you haven't quite pulled the trigger. I think it's-- Yeah. Young's put-- Young just had a weird putting day on Sunday. And Starkey was never an amazing putter. I'm just wonder, does I put a little wobble in the brain about putting-- and we're going into a week where you need to be really good, at least as far as we can tell from what we're reading and hearing about the course that is going to be quite a focus on your putting this week, whether I've just been making those 10 footers for par or 6 footers for par, 3 foot avoidance, rolling in the birdies when you get them. So I just wonder if you're not super pleased of putting whether the cracks might show. Yeah. What about Ram? I take you to have too much red mist and as Psychie this week, he's like, oh, everything's sorted now. I'm back to DB World Tour. I'm going to show them. And that might prevent them from fully executing. You and I were both on Zander last week, I believe. Well, I certainly was. Sorry, I might be throwing you on Zander. It just didn't happen, did it? It just didn't happen. No. He's probably tuning up the game for this week.
but does he go and he just he still hasn't connected himself at the top of the leaderboard. So does he go and do this? Do it this week. Yeah, those were my thoughts. I mean, and he's mentioned it in his own interviews. You know, he said, I have not contended in 2026. He knows it. So that's going to be a fresh feeling, albeit for a multiple PGA to or winner in multiple major champions. So if he does get up there to speak. And then you got Ludwig. Ludwig. Ludwig. Ludwig. He's the one I'm tempted on in that kind of shorter area because I've backed him a bit. So I feel like he kind, you know, I'd like to be there for it. He fits a lot of the criteria for a PGA champion in terms of skill sets, age, profile. He's playing really good golf and has let a couple of slip early this year. So it's a little bit of maybe just a little bit of a boat, you know, gear to grinds there. So he's the one I'm I might I think I probably will end up adding him and that might be it. And I've got a few others around the 45/50s. And you you question Mark on Matt Fitz. That's yeah, I don't know. I can't put I can't put the finger on one exact thing like he's long enough now. He's got the distance. Yeah. Maybe if you wanted to knit if I wanted to knit pick something is like is apex on approaches. Yeah. For for accessing the sections of these greens. He's right down in like the lower 10th quarter. Oh, yeah, that's take that way. He's down in the low load sort of 10% of the PGA to a numbers for apex. And if you're coming into these big greens, try to find very small, you know, quadrants and targets and slopes. That's kind of what put me off, to be honest. And the one we haven't mentioned, Dechambo, which is he's probably going to be film and content all week, you know, that's distracting when you're trying to get your makeup done for your YouTube. I he actually said last week, I just go go. You know, you go. Go ahead. He actually said last week that if if the PGA to if if if live falls over, he's just going to play majors and do YouTube videos. Live the dream. Yeah. Grow the game of golf. Just you love that phrase. You do too. Who are your mid choices then? Let's let's let's crack on to those before we we go off on a complete and out of tangent with Bryson. What are your what are your mid price bets then, Baron? Back on the Ricky Fowler train. Yeah. I knew you were going to say that. With good reason. Very good reason. Not eight, ninth and seconds the last three weeks. Going into a tournament that's asking for really good execution across multiple parts of your game. It just was a no brainer. So I've made all these e-trails have done with 10 places. It felt like a nice balance of arts and places. Interesting to see a lot of the bookies just go for seven places as a standard market this week. Couple doing eights. I felt there was some shocking prices from party parents, Guy Bet. So most of my bets are on bet three six five. Yeah. Nothing good. If you have them trying to jostle for different positions aren't they? They're right. Yeah. It's good. Anyway. Yeah. It gives you it gives you choices of punter. So you know, some are going all out with the places. Some are going all out with the prices. And as you say, there's a few in the seven seven each way bracket, which are kind of a mix of the two. So pick it. Poison. The choice is good, but it just feels like the entire thing is screwing the punter. You know, they're kind of like smoke a mirror is obfuscated the price by having these different you know, mix of prices and places. And overall, we're just getting screwed out of as a punter the prices are just averaged as lower across the board. I just know something just felt wrong this week. I felt like we're just getting skanked. Going back to Ricky, his play right now reminds me so, so much of 23 before the US Open, where he was 54 whole leader in Los Angeles. Remember, he'd finished sick at colonial, ninth at the memorial. Then he shot 62, 68, 70 to be 18, 36 and 54 whole leader at that US Open. Then the inevitable game, of course, and he finished fifth. And then I jumped on him at the rocket mortgage classic at 14 to 1 and he got that victory. And we were always sit on this podcast. It's going to take mobile top 10s and eventually he'll fall over the line on something unless Ricky follows this path that branched, Stedic has taken, burnt these burgers taken, Gary Woodland's taken and actually takes out his DJ championship this week. He's not in his 40s yet Steve. He's there. He's been a long time since that win isn't so 23 was his last win. So we are we're looking he's getting on for three years. That's where I'm heading with that rather than his age. But yes, wouldn't it be wonderful. I mean, I haven't got a penny on him, but I can see your logic very, very much. So, any others in the area for you? Yeah, two others. So I got him at 40 to 110 places. Kind of annoyed at him back him sooner before last week because a new is going well. I knew I'd probably back him for the PJ and his price just collapsed over the weekend. But anyway, such as life. The other two I have are both 10 places. Each way, 365, I've Chris Godderup. Yeah. And Nikolai Hoigard. What do you know about those two? He's been tiny bit off the boil. But not like still still tipping along nicely. So let's say his last four events. He's been 24, 25, 38, 14th. But he showed earlier this season that, yeah, wins, wins are there. And so maybe that's, if this is him adjusting to, hey, I'm now this new, I've got this new level I can get to as a player. He's figuring it out, but he's doing that by not missing cuts. Then that's the logic I'm going to put behind is like, he's not screaming hot form. But there's there's plenty of really great stuff under the bonnet there. Hits the ball a mile and when he's on, yeah, he'll, um, he might win. So that's why I went for Godderup. And Hoigard's playing some really good golf and just hits the ball so far. Like he cruises at 190 ball speed. So it's going to make this course quite short for him at this week. He might have a little one. Not a great record in the PGA, but I don't think this is a typical PGA course. Kind of doesn't make sense that Hoigard hasn't done well in the PGA before either because length just seems should convert into it's kind of weird. So maybe, you know, that could be to enter a number of factors. Yeah, we'll call it the moment. Yeah, at the moment, he's figuring still, right? And two very good weeks, the last two weeks in particular, 23rd and seconds. So does he keep, does he keep it rolling this week? I'm okay with the 50 to one each way and I'm done. He does. Yeah, I can see logic in that. I can see stupidity in them as well. Let's see. Well, I can see stupidity in any selection. I'm stupid every single week. So I mean, I've gone for J J spawn. I've gone 60 to one with bet three six five eight places each way by there. That was their standard, standard default market this week. Spawn was the last winner here in Pennsylvania. He won a Oakmont. His wins have come at TPC San Antonio 7,438 yard pass 72 and a 7,372 yard pass 70 Oakmont. So I think this is his wheelhouse. The thing I love about J J is his approach play is fantastic. Ninth for approach so far this season on the PGA tour. 14th for T to green. Okay, he's not the longest. He's he's 99th in driving distance. He's 92 for carry distance. Get that. Batchly total driving top 30 17th for accuracy 99 for length. I think you can work with that. One thing we know about J J is a plotter. He's a schema. Fifth last week quail. Now for me, quail won't suit as much as this course will. It's too long for him. This is right in his wheelhouse J J spawn.
So yeah, I took the opportunity on JJ. I just thought that price. I don't understand why JJ Spawn would be bigger in price than Min Wulie. I don't get that. I mean, he won a major last year. I just thought that if you look to that deeper mid-pack, I thought he stood out to me as a value bet. So yeah, I'm on JJ Spawn at 6.1 with bet 365 8 places each way. My final selection is 100 to 1. So where are you, Charminin Boll? Yeah, I've got a couple with that kind of mid bracket and the rest of mine are three figures and beyond. I've backed Till Hattern at 55s. That was with 7 places with bet MGM. And this is more about, can I squeeze a player, in fact, can I squeeze two players into the each way, playing playing places in that kind of 50/60 bracket? Till's that kind of player that I think could do that. He doesn't get a great deal of love in the betting markets recently and perhaps that's because he's playing on a live, I guess. A fact is that this is the guy you can and that has stepped up in bigger events over the years, particularly on the DP World Tour when he was playing there. Five Rolex series wins on the DP World Tour, including one of them at Wentworth as well. So those are in the loftiest of company on that tour back in the day. We know he won the API and the PJ Tour back in 2020. Increasingly stepping up in the majors as well. He's got eight major top tens to his name over the years, two in the last three. So he was fourth at the US Open last year and of course third in this year's Masters where he posted a score and then sat down patiently, refusing to take his first point until he knew that he wasn't going to be in the playoff. On the team last week on live, couple around 66. So I think that's a nice gentle warm up for this week and he's the sort here. I think could go out there and produce an each way, paying place and you know, at some point in his career, I think he's going to come very, very close to winning a major championship. Maybe this week. The other one I've backed is, and I mentioned him a few times on the preview pod last week is Sam Burns. Now Sam ticked the box for finishing top eight at the Masters finish seventh in the end. I did some analysis that was looking purely at Stroke's gain, putting for bankgrass performances over the last 12 months on the PJ Tour and Sam Burns top that, which I like for this week. And then the final positive was that he closed last week the 64. I mean, it was really up and down week last week at the truest 74 69 75 close with the 64. So he's going to be coming into this with a little bit of momentum, I think. And 60 to one with eight places, 365 this week, I thought was a fair price to take on. And again, see if he can do what he did at the Masters and produce a top eight finish. It's quite an ove, I like it this week, it's a very open tournament. You can build lots of cases for lots of players. Now I don't know if that's good or bad, but there's quite a few. As you as of here, as you went through Barry, there's quite a few question marks at the top of the board. I'm going through my Stroke's gained total over the last eight weeks numbers here. It won't surprise you. Scotty Sheffler is number one. What it wouldn't surprise us if he just bowels up on wins at five to one minute, then everyone will be fine. So, Scotty Sheffler number two, number two, Paul, Tyrell Hatten. Number three, Alex Fitzpatrick. Now the X isn't the most sane of places when it comes to content and reading and people's views. But let's just say the Fitzpatrick's got a bit of abuse the way that Alex and his brother won the Zurich. And there was lots of typical feedback saying that Alex Fitzpatrick doesn't deserve to be on the PGA tour. You know, this and the other, he's not good enough. It's funny with these young talented sorts from the DP Welter who seem to be doing okay at the moment on the PGA tour. But I just thought he's a hundred to one this week, Alex Fitzpatrick. So why not? Let's just pray that he has another good week. So yeah, I'm on Alex Fitzpatrick. He's only ever played one major. I remember watching it on full swing. Netflix. It was the 2023 Open. He finished 17th. He was ninth heading into Sunday. His current form reads one, one, nine, four. Winner in India, winner at the Zurich. And then of course on a tour that is, you know, he can't play out. He's not good enough for. He's finished ninth at Darau, signature event level and fourth at Quail Hollow, signature event level. Playing great goal. So I just thought can it continue for another week. So I'm on Alex Fitzpatrick at 100 to one with bet three, six, five, eight places each way on Mattis brother Alex, JJ, Cam and Rory. Those are my four for this week's PGA championship. So over to you too, then long shots. Anyone around that 100 and bigger mark any for you? Barry, I know the polls got some. Jump in there, Paul. I haven't settled on anybody. The triple digit price yet. I might not like the mid prices I have. Yeah. Yeah. It's one of those weeks where I was going back to last year. Once you've got Mac or in the Mac or Sheffler and Bryson out of the equation, the next five in the final leaderboard were all silly long prices, 150 plus. So is one of those weeks where if you can pluck out one of the outsiders, you might just find yourself with a nice tasty each way return. In terms of Alex Fitzpatrick, Steve, yeah, the guys just elevated himself to a whole new level in the space of four, five, six weeks. It's Matt. How is it's just taken to it like a duck to water, isn't he? riding the questionable wave, I wouldn't be remotely surprised to see him in that kind of each way, paying position this week. No. There's a few like that, aren't there? There's here. There's our man Big Yella. Soudashan, he's playing an amazing goal, isn't he? Oh, Soudashan, Yella Mirageu, 200 to one. All over my strobes going stats, is Yella Mirageu, Big Yella. So there's a few that you can pick out at Big Prices. Yeah. I've backed through. Matt McIntyre played well last week. Yeah, yeah. And you know, Brad Schneider could snuck into the field, didn't he, on the back and his win last week? Not bad on little dross designs, our Brent. Well, no, does he keep it going for a second week? I can play some more. Yeah, I like some more. He was tough to play last week, Steve. Surely, surely, surely, he's not just a one and done to take it off to the post and that to do. What did I start the show? I made my story. It's in permanent inks. Barry, it's not coming back. Let me shoot 75 in round one. I think he did. Yeah. Uncannily accurate. The three longer shots I've backed. I've backed Brian Harman, 150s. In fact, all three of mine moved with 365 in that eight place market. But as we've said, you can shop about and there's eight, 10, 12 place markets available with 365, there's 12 place market available with better Fred as well. There's a standard 10 place markets with cold, abrux and ball sports. So different combinations, all three of mine moved with 365 and eight places. Brian Harman, 150s. And I think because we're playing in this slightly shorter setup, I think we might see some different names in contention than your atypical PGA championship. And that's probably what makes it so difficult this week because we often get to a point where we can pigeonhole players that are going to play well in those that we simply think can't handle the length of the course. And that's not the case this week. Go back to Okéon 23rd, Seema, Jason Duffner, One and Harding Park in 2012.
20 with Colin Moracow one and you've got shorter setups that have lent themselves to a different style of player. We know with Bryan, 2023 Open Champion and well capable of competing, consenting and as we saw there winning a major championship. Second at the US Open as well over the years, couple of top 13s in the other two including at the PGA back in the day. Forms a little bit under the radar and that's why we get in the price but it's because he hasn't really just strong four rounds together. Fourth into Sunday, it's Sawgrass, he was 11th overall, third into Sunday at the Heritage and then fell away. I think we're yawning that week, Steve, I vaguely remember that. Sixth at the halfway point. Yeah, Bryan, you always falls away when I'm on it. Yeah, well, I think this is the point, he's been in the mix in some decent events quite recently and it's just not quite worked either on the Sunday or he hasn't been able to put all four rounds together. But if he puts four rounds together this week then I think he could go well at say 150 to one which I thought was a nice price. Thomas DeTri also backed, he's been nibbled in a bit but there's still 125s out there with eight places as we record. His impress, since he's moved out of it to live for me, five top seven finishes from his seven starts out there. And that was after a good end to 2025. He was just a couple of top tens at the Genesis and also the net bank to complete his year in 2025. One Phoenix Open last year as we know by seven. Unbeatable that week. When he's won in the in the past then he's tended to be lapping the field. Fourth, the 2024 PJ Championship so has a little bit of a previous in this event. I think he's the sort that could repeat that this week. And the other one I've backed and I backed him last week and I will stick with him and much to the derision when he misses the card. I'm sure but I'm going to give Lucas Glover another go at 400 to one. There is five hundreds out there with less places there's a thousand on the exchange so that probably puts his chances into context. But I backed him last week off the back of an improved performance at derail where he finished 14th. And what I wanted to see last week was a spark with a punter that would then complement his long game which had improved at derail. Now we got that spark with a punter. He finished sixth for Strokes Game Pudding which for Lucas Glover is a revelation and then the rest of his game fell away which ultimately ended up with him finishing in a tie for 37th I think it was. Got it written somewhere. But for me when he finds a little bit of form with the parter we should take note we saw it twice in the summer of 2023 as you and I well know Steve when we were on on board him back then. And he went back to back weeks where he found some form with a parter and just managed to maintain it. And if he keeps that going this week then I think he could outperform his prize by some distance. He was 25th year back in 2020. We only had the basic stats back then but he was first for total driving that week. Third for ball strike and then seventh for Pudding so he did get on okay with the greens back in the day. And as we know former US Open Champion I think he could surprise here at a monstrous prize Lucas Glover. I think this is worth reading out before we close. This is from Diesel Day Javu. It was a YouTube comment that we got on our Pjo Championship research podcast. I live outside of Philly and it's a been a dry spring. Causes of lower quality that I normally play on our dry and not very receptive unless we get tons of rain in the next week. Bear in mind he wrote this three days ago and there has been no rain. These greens are eronomic will be crispy. That is music to your ears Barry. Nice. Thanks for the feedback Diesel Day Javu by the way. It's like Christmas. Thank you Diesel. Diesel Santa. I've a couple of super long ones I figured out there while Paul was getting in there with bets that might actually function. So a steady bear. I gotta get yeah I think I have about 12 places here so I was looking at here we go Harry Hall. Not super long but he's a hundred to one. Mikhail Lindbergh. He's 275 to one 12 places. I'm only just looking at 365 for the moment. And then with a couple of lads who've just popped up and made you know high these big events before like Christian Poseidon out he's 160 to one. And then burnt cheeseburger. Yeah he's interesting isn't he? I mean if you want to guide us if you want to guide us fairways and greens fairways and greens fairways and greens burnt these burger. So if you just like if you look at this uh Poseidon Hage 17th in the team event six last week Mikhail Lindbergh 3rd, 3 weeks ago and a win two weeks ago Veeceburger first three weeks ago 13th, 13th and Harry Hall finished 30th, two weeks ago and 8th last week like there's there's reasons to back them. I want you to just do little nibbles on them all for a bit of outside fun. Yeah well on the basis I was on it on Veeceburger last week and you finished just outside the paying places buried in ice. They're saying that you're onto a winner there. Yeah as was I. If that guy could have played the first six holes on that golf course last week we'd have been in clover. Well yeah not a short video called the uh got the boy up top but even so. I'm enjoying this chat. I'm reading comments from previous videos and this one's from @playoffrondo and all it says is Lucas Glover L O L I think that could be a showcloser Paul what do you think? Yeah Lucas Glover L O L yeah look I'll never last laugh this week when Lucas Glover comes in and finishes and the time of the third and I get a hefty each way pal. I want to see a Paul it's a game of opinions isn't it? It's an outback of that comment. It's a game of opinions. It is. We just put ours out there to the world every week and then wait for the uh wait for the failure. Wait to be shot down. That's all fun isn't it? But yes just to close there is some there's some big prizes out there that you could you could really think could get involved. I like D-Tree's been playing nice golf on live. I think there's a world ranking thing in there as well. He's kind of scurrying with the top 50 all the time so he'll be motivated. I'm surprised you weren't sniffing around so he to go on a barrier. That's your normal kind of point of contact. Of course Max Homer. Yeah but so he does like 25th 24th 30th 69th there are big. It does enough cracks there in the game to not what's a wipe them off the map. Can you pull it all together going into this one week maybe finds a lightning in the bottle. Yeah Max still hasn't quite found his head like popped for top 10 what just over a month ago. Like 69th 38 52nd it's just not quite the odd one or two good rounds could pop in but just don't think he's got that that's sustainable thing yet where he can connect all four together or all parts of the game together. Put their signs there so that's good to see for Max. I'm just trying to follow who's playing well going in for my bets this week at least if they completely bought if it used to completely tank I can kind of lean back and say okay it wasn't just a finger in the air job or kind of a silly old rationale or just following the rose tinnitus glasses like there's there the players have backed are playing well going in and I think that's all I can kind of figure out for this week because it's a little bit of an unknown discourse. Yes you've seen it in the past but there's a lot of factors that have changed what it was when it was seen in the past of what it is now and what will happen this week so. Yeah. I'll close with one more question for Paul. Paul there's lots of people here listening to this that won't be aware of any of the DP World Tour players that are coming across for the PGA. Is there anyone that you could potentially highlight a very low dollar decay play or a top 40 bet or is there anyone coming across that our North American friends won't be fully aware of that you think could actually be a feature at a run and meet this week? Yes it's a difficult one there wasn't one that I was particularly close to back in I must say of the ones that missed out just on my thought process Barry's mentioned a couple of amounts.
the Christian Bersweddon who was one who I thought could go well and sung J.M. So to answer your question probably yeah there's not one that screams at me because I kind of would have been put off by Feastburg and not performing last week and despite what he's how he's he may fit with the course. Yeah I see Barry's point on Limburg in a couple of weeks back. Yeah I don't know. Don't die from my picks Paul. No I'm not. I see tube comments are brutal they'll come get you. Yeah no. We're just taking him up for more abuse on Maui. Sorry Paul. That's great. Yeah that wasn't what I mean that's that's what it got is your answer. There wasn't someone that I thought could come over and really really squeeze into those positions. Max Hymn was interested because of how he's stepping up at major championships and very little else and I did give him some thought but yeah well so not deeply well taught by us so it doesn't really are. As I say stop dodging stop dodging the question would you. I'm not going to answer a political route of answering a question that's actually not been asked whatsoever. Yeah yeah. So tell you about this guy home man. I hope your bets go well gentlemen. Yeah best love boys. You two boys. My master's experience was so disastrous where literally within four hours of them team off all of my players had capitulated I'm just hoping to get at least somebody in the mix. That'd be really really good. Here's hoping. I hope everyone's bets go well at home the listeners and we will be back next week. What have you got next week Paul when we return to non major format. We have the Sudal opens I have some course form to dig into next week. Hallelujah. And I've got that birdie fest is known as the CJ Cup Byron Nelson that Scotty Sheffler won by about 39 shots last year. So I look forward to that. See you soon. [Music] you
