In this episode of "Part of the Problem," Dave Smith and co-host Robbie Bernstein discuss a range of political topics, starting with Dave's announcement of a potential upcoming debate on the Iran war with a prominent hawk, possibly arranged through Zero Hedge, with a two-hour minimum duration. They analyze the current state of the conflict, noting that officials like JD Vance are calling it the "final stage," despite the war dragging on for over six months. The hosts speculate on the possibility of an "escalation trap," where the U.S. might provoke Iran into a drastic action to justify continued warfare, potentially leading to a "forever war" akin to Ukraine. They also critique Donald Trump's economic policies, including tariffs, and his recent attacks on figures like Tucker Carlson and Thomas Massie, arguing these critics are better positioned to challenge the administration and future Democratic socialists. The conversation shifts to the rise of Democratic socialists, who are winning primaries by focusing on affordability, despite their socialist platform. Finally, Dave criticizes Ben Shapiro's take on the Candace Owens-Andrew Wilson debate, calling it hypocritical, as Shapiro has built his career on debating trivial topics while avoiding substantive debates on Israel or related wars. The episode emphasizes the importance of engaging in debates on contested issues rather than censoring them.
Speaker 1 : What's up, what's up everybody. Welcome to a brand new episode of part of
the problem. I am Dave Smith. And of course I am joined by Robbie the fire Bernstein.
The people's champion is in the house. How are you, sir? I'm well, how are you, my friend?
Very good. How's a how's portion been going? Oh, this, this past run was absolutely incredible.
And sadly off in the next two weeks. Cause I didn't quite get my shit together of a coordinating
September dates, but you know, I got a lot of cleaning and laundry to do. So it's probably
good to be home for a little bit. There you go. You've been, you've been on the road quite
a bit of a, I can't believe summer's over, man. It's driving me nuts. It is. It is something
man. It's this summer went by quick, especially, you know, what's weird for me now is now having
my kids. Cause you know, I've just had like babies and toddlers for so long, but now that
I got like actual kids, this is a really trippy feeling.
Speaker 2 : I'm sure.
My parents can, who have older kids than me are used to this, but you get back into
feeling like it's summer and school. You know what I mean? You get back into having that
like, oh, summer's over feeling like, do you remember that? You're like, oh, the school
year's coming up. It's like that. And that, as I say it out loud, it might be the worst
part of being a parent. You're like, oh, I never wanted to do, but I do have this like,
oh, summer vacations over kind of feeling, which is, I don't know, very strange. Haven't
had that with a.
Speaker 1 : I haven't had that and sore knees ever just together in my life.
Like it's, it's, it's weird having both of them. Anyway, guys, this
weekend is a, is a big one for me. I will be at the comedy mothership. I believe there
are still some, some tickets for the Sunday night show available. If you guys want to
come out for that comic, Dave smith.com looking forward to that. This should be a lot of fun.
It's a great time. And, um, oh, you know what, Rob? So Natalie knows this cause I put it
in the chat or I'm sorry. Cause I said it, I'm going to put it in the chat. Uh, but I
have a, it looks like a debate. I'm not going to say who this is. I'll put it in the chat
here. Uh, Rob, it looks like this is supposed to happen tomorrow night and it hasn't been
officially confirmed yet. I did, by the way, on the members only episode, I, uh, I developed,
I, uh, I divulged this information. Um, but when I was saying, I was like, I want to debate
someone on the Iran war and I want the biggest, best, most, you know what I mean? Like Hawk
that I can get. And, uh, oh, this, this one would have been on a short list of people
who I would love to debate. And I was told that, um, this is a real, this is a little,
uh, um, mirror into my internal narcissism, but I wasn't told that he enthusiastically
wanted to debate me on the war.
and around and it made me furious like excited but it made me furious because like i just feel
like the nerve i only have a couple questions but i i'd love to know uh what platform the debate's
happening on and also uh how this individual managed to make contact with you it was uh our
buddy at zero hedge oh cool and that's the platform so they reached they reached out to me
um again uh he also said i'd hold off on promoting it yet so maybe i shouldn't be doing this but uh
but anyway there might be a real big debate and can you announce who the uh who the moderator
might be that's the sticking point right now uh is so i can't really um the the there was
a proposed moderator that i agreed to i thought was fine um and then there it that hasn't been
approved yet by the other side but so uh but i'm saying make ben shapiro the moderator i don't care
pick the moderator dude i get this fight i don't care
you
the only uh my only stipulation was i said um i said i agree to everything
but it has to be minimum two hours preferably three i was like none of these because i've
seen them do like some 90 minute debates before none of that i need time all i need is time but
and and that was agreed to from what i've been told two hours was agreed to i didn't get three
but two is good wow well to build into the teas uh this might be one of your most qualified and
toughest opponents yet so um i'm loving it because i think he will take him down but this is a good
name in terms of just like pure ranking like this is the top of the top of the israel lobby
i mean this is this is somebody who should yeah like this is somebody who
equally qualified to dennis prager maybe more qualified um to debate more than douglas murray
yeah so anyway should be an interesting one if he doesn't pull i always with these things i always
feel like i'm not sure it's going to happen until it actually happens i felt that way with cuomo and
douglas murray and all these guys there's like yeah they might they might pull out of this at any
minute but so we'll see uh what happens but anyway you know i part i bring it up partially just
because i am i gotta say there is something about going into this debate um debating the war right
now that does just feel different than previous debates whereas like in so many of the previous
debates it's like okay i got this case i feel like it's overwhelming now it's on me to marshal
all the facts and information and present the argument in the best way possible
and i gotta say rob with this current war it almost feels like my opening statement is
you know what i mean like you it's almost like hard to but uh
but then of course the the anger at this guy wanting to debate me is starting to give me a lot
of energy of stuff to say but anyway i got it it's going to be interesting to me how anyone even um
defends this uh um anyone defends this war at this point and part of what i guess the task is
going to be is going to be to bridge the gap of where how the delusional world that the hawks are
in you know um i don't know rob if you've seen now the new thing i i saw a bunch of things about the
albasset and jd vance both using this term final stage you've seen that we're in the final stage
of the war that's what they're calling it now this war that was clearly only going to be a couple
weeks long well right what was in the the regime was supposed to collapse in 48 hours then it was
supposed to only be a couple weeks long then it was clearly weeks not months but now six plus
months into the thing we're going okay we're in the final phase but rob dude i mean if they're not
saying this is the final phase then what does that mean other than we're about to essentially
admit that we lost the whole thing um yeah well i was uh last week uh donald trump was renaming
the uh the straits as a new american territory or something along those lines uh i've declared
myself as being at the year whatever stage with trump um now this week there are some seemingly
slightly more positive developments that you've got a little bit more work to do than you even
had to do last week uh so the administration is now pushing towards they're claiming uh bigger
and bolder economic warfare which is likely just going to be secondary sanctions because we've
already sanctioned the hell out of iran um they're also claiming that there's now more boats going
through the omen side um however compared to the straits just being open it's not a it's not a real
increase it's an increase against zero ships going through uh you do have a couple iranian
hardliners who are now saying hey listen
the whole world uh is kind of on our side here let's not go on the offensive let's actually
strike a deal and be done with the war uh my read on the situation is uh america is going to threaten
other countries that they have to basically partake in the sanctions and try and isolate iran
as we saw in russia china was unwilling to do that uh as was turkey when we started uh you know the
ukraine war against russia so i don't really know if this plan is going to work uh it does seem like
we're trying to actually put more pressure on iran to almost go on the offensive so that maybe we have
a better way to deal with this uh but i don't think it's going to be a good idea it's not going to be
a good idea it's not going to be a good idea i don't think it's going to be a good idea at all
so that uh he could actually you know seemingly win the war and justify engaging in war crimes
um but i i i don't know what what the cracking point is iran uh in terms of like uh the economic
hardships that they're in i venture to guess that it's a zero-sum game of just that the regime has
to remain in place and even if the regime falls then they can still keep the straits closed so
i don't really see uh you know i don't really see toppling the regime being the end of the
the situation that we're in nor do i think that they're going to crack first but uh donald trump
is ramping up the economic pressure and that does seem to have iran debating whether or not that
means they want to go on the offensive now to bring this back to actual warfare or come to the
table and make a deal yeah the prospect that you laid out there of like if this is a game to goat
the iranians into doing something that is in some ways um the darkest of possibilities you know what
i mean which is
one of the possibilities but that's the darkest one because you know there is something almost
you know i don't know i don't know exactly how to describe this i guess maybe it's something out of
like in a really toxic relationship or something like that you might find but like you know like
if a fight starts but then if someone commits an offense in the fight that's so grave that it almost
kind of casts a shadow over what we were even fighting about like that doesn't even matter at
this point anymore
you know like um uh trying to think of the best example that in the sense that like let's say you
were you were running late for something and you show up and and the person you were there to meet
just curses you out for running late
and now you're in a big fight with that.
It's like, we're in a big fight over something
that's way bigger than me being late now.
That has nothing really to do with this anymore.
And you could see where like Donald Trump
could maybe have it in his mind
that the only thing that could kind of cover up
what a disaster this has all been
is if you could lure Iran into some horrific action
that then gets an emotional response.
Like, you know, think about how much Pearl Harbor
changed the attitudes toward World War II in America.
You get something like that.
And, you know, if you get around
to kill a bunch of civilians somewhere,
then maybe that, like, I'm not saying that's the case.
I'm saying that as you speculated
that that's one possibility, that is one possibility.
And it is like kind of the darkest of all of them.
Yeah, I think what you're seeing here,
which is essentially what Professor Robert Pape
has been talking about this whole time, right,
is the issue of the escalation trap
is that like, it's just, even though it is possible,
meaning like within the laws of physics
for Donald Trump to just do the right thing
and just end this and just walk away
and we don't even need a deal, you could just leave.
That is such a bitter pill to swallow.
And you have to come so far down off the hill of bullshit
that you've been talking to like admit this reality
that you'd rather just try to get something going,
rather do something that changes the dynamic,
which is real, it's a real dark possibility.
But that could be what we're looking at here.

All right, let's get back into the show.
Well, we still seem to just be sitting
in the pause and wait stage
and neither side wanting to give up
and play the economic warfare game
and see who blinks first.
So we're kind of just in, we're in the intermission.
Yep, yep, I think that's right.
And there's, well, it's unclear.
You know, it's kind of unclear.
It's like, this could be, it is possible
that this is close to the winding down of all of this.
And maybe it's not intermission,
but we're certainly at a point where like,
it could go, it could go that way.
Or it could go the way of continuing.
And look, there is, if we are in a position
and in some ways it's potential that it's possible
that this is the worst of all practical worlds,
you know, in the same way, you know,
if you think about the war in Ukraine,
it's kind of at this point, right?
It's like a lot of people thought
when Vladimir Putin first invaded Ukraine
that there'd be Russian tanks in,
in Kiev in a few weeks.
And essentially Russia would just annex the whole territory.
And Ukraine put up a much better fight
than a lot of people thought they would.
And there's a lot of reasons for that.
And obviously a huge part of it is that they got
hundreds of billions of dollars in aid
from Europe and the United States.
First, primarily the United States.
And also, I mean, like, I guess to some degree,
like it's, I've read a lot of different shit on this, Rob.
I'm sure you have too.
I don't know exactly what's going on,
but like Zelensky did,
for whatever reasons,
want to fight and want to keep the thing going.
But at this point, when you look at the war,
look like with a lot of these things,
people paint narratives about how heroic it is
for the young men to go and fight for their country.
Now, you know, also let's like,
let's kind of brush over the fact that a lot of those young men
had a gun put in their fucking face
and were ordered to go out onto the front lines
to go die in brutal ways, you know,
essentially enslaved to be fighters.
But, you know, I remember my whole life,
people would always talk about France in World War II
and like what pussies they were.
And like, oh, it's so pathetic,
'cause look, the army just retreated
and they just let the Nazis take Paris.
And that was that.
But like, then you read about World War I,
where France just like went through years
of this gruesome, bloody, awful fighting,
just to draw the lines of exactly where they were,
like all just for nothing.
And they were just like, yo, we're not doing that again.
We're not doing this again for nothing.
And honestly, just saying,
millions of people have died in the Ukraine war,
like because it's gone on since 2022
and is still going on right now.
And like, had Zelensky just surrendered
and just not, or had they just annexed the whole thing,
it actually might've been much better ultimately.
Now, maybe not.
And you could have deep abstract debates
about whether it's better to live on your knees
or die on your feet or like whatever,
and like whether you should let another territory.
But also like, when you think about it,
when you got a government that's corrupt as shit in Kiev
and a government that's corrupt as shit in Moscow,
and the question is just over whether the people
are gonna be ruled by one or the other,
with many ethnic Russians in the East
being currently ruled over by Kiev,
rather than many ethnic Ukrainians in the West
being ruled over by Russians or whatever.
But like, is millions of them dying
really the best case scenario?
Is this good?
Is this better?
Anyway, this is now the situation in Iran,
I guess what I'm trying to say is,
it ends up having this potential now,
where enough shipping is getting through that it's like,
oh, we can like keep the global economy together,
if that's possibly the case,
that maybe that's the answer here, Rob.
We can just keep it going like this for years.
Donald Trump can pass this off to the next president.
I mean, you know, it seemed kind of crazy,
I guess this was the big thing
that all of the hawks were saying last summer, right?
Oh, come on, you think he's a neocon
just 'cause he launched the war
that's been on the neocons list for 20 years?
Well, no, he's not doing a lot.
He's not a long drawn out thing.
This is a third position, you know?
We're not neocons, but we're not isolationists.
We just do little wars here and there, but I don't know.
They've been wrong and lying about everything else,
so they're probably wrong and lying about that too.
Maybe this is just the next forever war
that we pass off to the next administration.
Maybe that ends up being the middle ground
between nuking them and just ending this insanity.
- So I have real humility
when it comes to supply chain issues,
because at the beginning of,
like the Ukraine war they were talking about,
we're all gonna run out of food
'cause it's the breadbasket of Europe.
And I was like, I just don't know enough
of the specifics on this.
When it comes to the straits,
apparently 200 boats went through this
over the last week versus 150,
but you guys can fact check me,
but these are the best numbers I've come across,
which is only 20% of what like a typical traffic would be
if like the straits were completely open.
And it seems like the real cracks right now
are in diesel prices nearing an all time high.
And then you seemingly got some real,
real problems in financial markets
that we had to bail out Japan
so that they wouldn't stop dropping their American debt.
And we also did some goofy thing
to try and falsify the signal
that there's more demand for our debt
than there actually is.
And that they, I don't know,
basically did a reverse swap on the,
by selling the shorts and buying the longs.
To me, anytime, it doesn't matter
what they're doing with the financial plumbing.
It's just to pretend like there's more demand
for our debt than there actually is.
And pretending that there's more liquidity in the system.
Then there actually is as to what the specifics are,
to what extent I'm talking out of my ass right now.
I can't tell you,
but that's my signal is that it's musical chairs
and they're moving the chairs around
to make it seem like there's enough chairs.
So it's just,
it's unclear as to who's got more runway here.
Iran falling apart, which, you know,
all the regime needs to do is kill people
and just stay in power for them to win.
Or Donald Trump finally going,
Hey, the economic situation here is getting a little bit too,
too bad.
And I can't possibly keep a coalition together
so we're, we're going to have to make some changes
so that I'm not here when the stock market collapses.
Yeah.
Well, Donald Trump doesn't seem to be
super interested in keeping the coalition together.
You know, Donald Trump, it it's interesting, man.
We're in, well, we're almost done with August.
We're almost in September, you know, Rob,
like midterm elections are, you know,
like primary season is wrapping up.
up or wrapped up. I mean, it's, it's, we're getting really close to it.
Donald Trump has been on record now a bunch of times saying, I don't care about the the not the primaries.
Excuse me. I don't care about the midterms. And I don't know, Rob, I'm starting to believe him.
Maybe he actually does mean that, like he really just doesn't care or he cares about something else so much more that it just makes that in comparison seem like he doesn't care.
But he did put out another truth social blasting Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene and and Thomas Massey, the great Thomas Massey, of course.
Here, let's pull up that that truth social real quick is I mean, what can you just say about this this clown at this point?
But, OK, Tucker Carlson just met with lightweight former congressman Thomas Massey and Marjorie Trader Greene losers all.
Tucker's, quote, views have fallen through the floor and will only get worse.
Nobody cares about him any longer and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
It's just this long thing about how, you know, this is Donald Trump kind of flailing insults.
And I don't know. I just I kind of thought this was interesting.
I guess I I took it as a big moment the first time that he was, you know, trashing these guys by name.
I guess that when I'm referring to the Tucker, Megan and Candace and Alex Jones.
But, you know.
I don't know, Rob.
Obviously, this is just Trump.
There's there's something kind of silly about all of it.
But I do got to say, which has been the major theme that I guess I've been on for the last year, is that.
I'm just saying to people, look.
If you care about any of this stuff, which I'm going to assume by definition, anybody listening to this show or shows like it, you kind of care about these issues to some degree.
You care about the fact that.
The country's falling apart.
There's all this corruption in D.C.
There are these major issues and, you know, policies that matter, that we care about or whatever.
But like, dude, our country's in a crazy place right now after the years of covid, after the years of insane woke ism, the political comeback of Donald Trump and now the absolute collapse of this thing.
And there is this, you know, Rob, this huge new moment.
The U.S.
Israel.
Relationship is completely exploded.
Opinion of Israel has collapsed.
Opinion of the warfare state opinion of D.C.
Has completely changed the unaffordability crisis or whatever.
The destruction of our currency, like all these things.
You have the rise of this young democratic socialist movement on the left.
They're they're ascendant, but they're very vulnerable and they need to be defeated.
And all I'm saying here, Rob, is like, if you care about the country at all in your ends, this thing is going down.
And in two thousand twenty eight, there's going to be an opportunity for something to be in its place.
There's going to be a Republican primary.
There's going to be people competing with ideas.
Someone's going to.
And we are best man at this point, just as I felt in twenty four, we were best to support the thing and try to influence it again.
We are best to completely distance ourselves from this.
Be just on the record as the ones who opposed all of this, because what's going on right now is that Donald Trump, it's exact.
I'm sorry, but I got this one right.
It's exactly as I predicted.
He is going down and down and down and down, and it's just going to get worse and worse as this as this war becomes a clearer and clearer loss and catastrophe.
And he can sit here and say, you know, oh, I'm trashing all Tucker's views are through the floor.
You know where he was as of this morning, Rob, in news shows in the world.
Number one, number one, you can sit here and try your best.
I'm just like, look at these pieces on the board.
Do you remember how easy it was, Rob?
For us to look at the pieces on the board.
And when when Joe Biden is sitting there going, the economy is really great.
You're just too stupid to understand it.
And we go, that's not going to work.
That's going to fall apart.
What are you going with now?
That your director of counterterrorism was actually a weak sissy who you put in charge of preventing terrorism and all of the people who were in your corner, all of the people who you would have been hanging out with and having speak at the RNC.
They're all.
Losers, they're all traitors because you fought this war that we all hate, man.
I'm just saying, like, it's it's becoming so obvious at this point, Rob, it's the whole Ben Shapiro thing has been flipped on him.
No, dude, if you want to stop these socialists, you have to reject these wars for Israel.
That's the choice.
Which one do you care about more?
And Trump and those affiliated with Trump, which essentially is J.D.
Vance and Marco Rubio.
If you're running out of.
This position out of this administration, which means you're affiliated with this administration.
They've got two other significant problems on the books, which is Epstein will come up in the election cycle and the way that this administration handled the Epstein files.
And then I also saw a clip from John Ossoff, who, from what I understand, is actually starting to climb in the polls.
And I could see beating both AOC and Newsom out of out of the primaries just because he comes off as more mainstream down the middle put together.
And has less of their baggage.
But he was slamming Donald Trump for corruption.
And he was going through some of the trades that Donald Trump made right around when he was making policy changes.
And particularly if Trump, like his pardoning, wouldn't happen until after the election cycle.
But there's there's a lot of really good cards on the table to be played, which is against this Trump administration, specifically for the corruption of the way that they've been trading in line with policies such as government buying into stocks that even Donald Trump has been buying into.
Donald Trump is purchasing or telling the public to go purchase.
Yeah, dude.
I mean, I've look, I've read a little bit about some of that stuff, but it seems to me.
And look, I'm saying this with the caveat of like I've looked a little bit into this stuff.
But between some of the crypto scams, some of the the business that his kids are involved in.
I mean, dude, it's like at least it's being alleged that between Trump and and his kids and stepkid, their net worth has exploded.
By several billion dollars.
This is like corruption on a different scale and level.
Like you're used to these stories being Hunter Biden stories.
It was getting 100 grand a month from this company to do blah, blah, blah.
Like this is crazy amounts of money.
And, you know, I know specifically that they said Jared Kushner wouldn't be involved in this administration because of all the business he was doing in the Biden four years.
And now they made him the point guy on like so much of this shit.
I mean, and so look.
Dude, it doesn't take like a genius to to view this thing out, right?
Like to game this thing out.
Like, where are we going here?
OK, the Democrats are going certainly going to take the House and likely the Senate.
They're certainly going to have the House of Representatives.
The Democrats are going to be in control of the House now for for the next two years and all through.
And look, you think about it like this, right?
We're in wherever we are.
We're in late 2026.
A year from now, we're in presidential.
Election season, right?
We're a year and a half out from or less than a year and a half out at that point from the presidential election.
The Democrats control Congress all the way through.
It's going to be impeachments, hearings, subpoenas, all types of shit about Trump's just corruption.
This is going to be what you know, it's going to be wall to wall on all the anti-Trump media is going to be all about his corruption, all about this stuff.
Big, you know, theater shows, all of all of it having nothing to do with substance that matters for the American people.
Not to say that they won't be uncovering real corruption, but just waste of resources while we have a million and one real crises in this country.
They'll be focused on this stuff.
Trump will go out doing what we already know he's going to do, pardoning himself and his entire family and doing the same Joe Biden thing and just basically leaving with a big middle finger.
None of us are going down for any of our corruption.
And all the time, all the while in the backdrop will be the fact that his second term was spent on this disastrous war, which will either at that point still be going on.
As a continued disaster with nothing to show for it, or we'll have already wrapped up and been clear that it was a loss, the biggest loss in American modern military history and all that.
So this is where we're going.
Like, this is a sinking ship.
You know, I'm just saying I'm waiting just for their own survival for the Stephen Crowder's and Benny Johnson's of the world to be the rats on that sinking ship running off of it, because this is just that's where it's going down, man.
And then look again, you can sit here.
And he can trash all these guys.
You want to Marjorie Taylor green and Tucker Carlson and Thomas Massey.
All right.
You know, you can do everything you listen.
These, these people and Joe can too.
They have been through the character assassination game for years now.
Okay.
Say what you will about them while you guys are all out here trying to like destroy them as much as you can.
Really what they're guilty of is that all of the fucking things that are the most unpopular things that are destroyed.
The Trump administration, you can't pin on any of them.
What are you going to do?
Say Thomas Massey.
Why'd you cover up the Epstein files?
You're going to say, Tucker, why'd we launch that war in around?
Well, these were all the people trying to get those things not to be the case.
And everyone knows that there's no debate about it, you know, so you want to trash them fine, but I'm telling you right now.
I mean, it seems clear as day to me that it's, it is exactly the opposite of what all those establishment hacks were telling us that in fact,
these guys who Trump is trashing are the only ones who can take on the democratic socialists and when the only ones who have a shot, you want to elect a democratic socialist, run them out.
against marco rubio that's your best chance yeah and i'm uh i'm amused by the uh non-iran uh news
from this past week is uh for one i can't believe trump is picking a fight with canada right now
just seems like he has enough on his plate and then also now he's defending um uh getting rid
of the beef tariffs uh because i guess he's acknowledging also the tariffs do raise prices
for consumers and now you got everyone who was all about well we need the american jobs we need a
we need to keep the money in the economy and whatever that is going no what we need is lower
prices what's wrong with you people that uh you don't want to import beef i just think it's a
funny 180. oh it is something too well just imagine i mean and we talked about this a lot
even at the beginning when i guess we were hopeful that some positives might come out of this
administration but you know i mean you're you came into an environment where price inflation
was what was destroying the economy for for four years and your prescription was was tariffs
and come on dude like i don't know like this is very basic and then it's not even like look
the argue even the pro-tariff argument which is all types of flawed but even even the pro-tariff
argument would be something
like yes the the downside will be higher prices but the positive will be like manufacturing jobs
in america or something like that but higher prices are going to be part of it and some you
know you can't you can't make it more expensive to produce something or make it more expensive to
trade something in the case of tariffs without making it more expensive to consume that thing
this is like basic economic law um
anyway uh i guess the yeah it's just it it's quite a dynamic to watch dude as as this uh all
unfolds and i do got to say i know i've you know i'm probably repeating myself a little bit here
but i i do think that you know as you see there were more successes from the the democratic
socialist and the left-wing insurgent types um in in primaries across the country and you see that
these guys have all this wind at their back because they all just opposed the the
israel genocide and the war in iran and but i do just think like dude there's so much of this
is just not going to be appealing to huge swaths of american voters right this might be
playing really good in democratic primaries right now but they're going to have a major problem
but the only way to defeat that like again what did it take to get mom donnie elected in new york city
well it took him running against a guy who had to carry the albatross of
loving benjamin netanyahu and israel and being the lockdown governor and killing old people and
pinching girls on the ass or whatever you know andrew being italian yeah being italian right
and and guilty of that um you know pinching girls on the ass were you all from gabagool or whatever
uh but you know short of that mom donnie probably doesn't get elected or quite possibly doesn't
get elected and in the same way it's like look dude again you want to see democratic socialists
get elected in general elections meaning they get real political power meaning socialists start
taking over your economy okay if you want to see a socialist win make it a socialist who was against
this war running against a republican who was for it that is the best shot for a socialist to gain
real political power right now in america that's right what do you think rob i mean just in that
if if a socialist is running against um somebody
who's like you know arguing that you should take trips to israel
or they were running against somebody who goes yeah of course we're totally against that war
who do they have a tougher battle with obviously the latter because that person takes away their
moral like you know standing in this whole thing i don't know seems pretty obvious uh to me i thought
maybe we should play the um here that there's that bill maher clip i i thought that was kind
of interesting it's on on topic here um but they had a little panel discussion on um bill maher's
show the other day uh with he had uh dana bash on and um uh what's his name um peters from the
new york times um and they're sitting there so this is kind of there's a conversation with three
kind of establishment liberals about these uh these damn socialists who are getting to the left
of them and causing all types of problems uh here's let's let's play the clip they're not
running to be members of the democratic party they're running many of them anyway as democratic
socialists it's a totally different political organization and in fact they want to take out
the democratic party i mean it's their stated goal they not only want to take out the democratic
party they want to take out the entire constitutional system that the democratic
party is allowed to participate in government and they like communism i yeah proved it here a couple
of weeks ago just by quoting them they use the word a lot they're not actually trying to hide it
although if you ask them they will deny yeah it's so interesting they will but some of them i mean
some of them i mean this is why el saeed did quite well in michigan this is why the woman who is
running against karen bass as mayor of la is doing quite well because they've learned how to sand down
the rougher edges and they don't talk about socialism they don't talk about seizing the
means of production and stuff like that uh they're getting many of them some of them are not quite
ready for prime time let's be clear but a lot of them have really done a good job of selling
themselves to the public as quite reasonable mainstream politicians and that's how uh angie
nixon who beat alexander binman in florida this week okay so that explain who that is she is a
democratic socialist uh who raised like not even a million dollars that's right and he raised about
16 million dollars so i'm not a mathematician but i think that's like 16 to one and he crushed
she crushed him in florida in florida which is a red state yes but this is but this is of course
the democratic primary it's a democrat and a lot of people will say but she did it by she's a
democratic socialist but she did it by really narrowing down her message about affordability
about about money about trying to uh you know live the american dream in a way but again this
is a race within the democratic party so when she runs in the general against the republican
for governor she's gonna be very hard right very hard she's gonna run against ashley moody who's
the um sitting republican senator and it's it i mean i don't want to say impossible but if there
is an impossible race that could so what do you think all right so i just find it kind of
interesting that they're sitting here like trying to analyze this whole thing they all have a very
defeated tone about how these insurgents are just like these guys are coming up everywhere we're at
spending them 16 to 1 and they're still winning and then they even they will admit they're like
hey these guys aren't really winning by convincing people of their socialist platform they're winning
by what just talking about how it's unaffordable to live the american dream today and all of that and
i think that's what's really interesting about what they're trying to do is they're trying to
make them look like they're not and i think that's what they're trying to do is they're trying to
what you're saying and it's interesting there was a part of the uh democratic report on why
they lost the last uh um presidential election that was uh edited or censored out that then
later got released i said that they were wrong because kamala harris was just too stupid to win
and that was the problem that they had um but they did actually have an interesting thing that
basically they're viewed as uh the democrats at the moment are viewed as too corrupt and what they
were getting at is that the concern like the mainstream voters understand that the
hierarchy of the democratic party such as like a nancy pelosi is clearly not all that interested
in american affordability and american jobs they can see the moves that the party's making and that
it's not really in their interest and so i think there's hopefully a lot of people out there that
don't actually want socialism but they're just buying into because they don't understand how
how much censorship and uh lost economic resources will get wasted and that will make their life
worse to the extent that the policies are implemented
but i do think that just in terms of uh who's lying the best when somebody outside of the
system comes along and goes hey i'm actually worried about affordability and it's that against
more of the same people are more interested in what's new and pitching affordability um so
i do think you're right about even though i didn't really follow the florida election but
i do think that that is largely the appeal of the democratic socialists um what the guy was
talking about though of these people aren't really democrats and they're they're more here to ruin the
party it's such an interesting complaint to me because you guys have orchestrated um a two-party
system where other parties can't really compete and that's kind of the way that it's structured
and so it's a mess of your own creation that the democrats socialists don't form their own
own party and it's because they can never get into a debate they can never potentially pick up you
know 30 of the vote they can't get on ballots and so you know we've discussed on the republican side
is it better to try and run thomas massey as an independent or is it better to try and run thomas
massey as an independent or is it better to try and run thomas massey as an independent or is it better
to try and run thomas massey as an independent or is it better to try and run thomas massey as an independent
and run Thomas Massey as an independent or overtake the Republican party.
And clearly the easier path to victory is to try and win over the Republican party and take over
the party because otherwise you're up against the two party system. And it's nearly impossible
to get on ballots and get into debates and have people take you seriously. And so it's interesting.
It's just kind of like a bitchy move where you both can construct this flawed system where most
people are just voting against the other person. They're not really, uh, you know, they're not
really supporting this thing. They're just voting against something else. He boxed out every other
opinion. And then if the other people try and come into your party, you go, well, you don't
belong here. Well then how do you possibly have representative democracy? If you're managing to
censor this many people out of your, out of your structure. All right, guys, let's take a moment
and thank our sponsor for today's show, which is body brain coffee, the brainchild of the great
Louis J Gomez. It is amazing. If you're looking for a delicious cup of coffee that naturally boost
your testosterone, you have found it. I don't know. You know, look, I'm in my mid forties now.
I don't know.
You're like me, but I was not going to start doing supplements. I certainly wasn't going to
start doing injections, but I didn't mind drinking a delicious cup of coffee every day. And that's
what I do. I have one cup of body brain coffee every day. I've never felt better. It's got
nothing but good stuff in it. And the creamer is finally here. It was specifically designed to
stack perfectly with body brain. All of it just has a bunch of good stuff. It makes you feel good.
It naturally boosts your testosterone. Plus it was created by my, my brother, Louis J Gomez, who
is the guy who's run the podcast.
He's the guy who really encouraged me to start this thing. So if you love this show and you want
a delicious cup of coffee that naturally boosts your testosterone, make sure to go to bodybraincoffee.com
and use the promo code Dave20. It'll get you 20% off your entire order. I really believe in this
product. I really want to help blow it up. So please do go to bodybraincoffee.com, promo code
Dave20 for 20% off. Get that new creamer too. It's delicious. 100% dude. I remember, um, cause people used to say shit like this to, um, be a thing to like own
libertarians or something like that, where they would go, they'd go like, oh, well you use the
roads and you use the public park and you use the public library or something like that. And you're
like, wait, wait, hold on. So I don't think I should be forced to pay for these things, but I
am since I am forced. If I try to get a little bit of value out of them now, I'm a hypocrite.
You know, it's kind of like a similar type.
It's like, dude, you created this system that is not the system. Therefore you rigged the whole
thing to be in favor of two parties. So that, like you said, if anyone ever wants to win,
they have to run within one of these two major parties. So yeah, what does this mean? And also,
I mean, look, they used to say the same thing about Bernie Sanders. Cause he was like an
independent socialist for many years and then ran as a Democrat. Maybe you're not really a Democrat.
You'd be like, dude, if all the arguments against Bernie Sanders, this is the weakest,
most pathetic one. Like he's making his arguments.
Uh, if your voters like him more, they can vote for him. If he's not a Democrat,
then I guess they'll vote for you. Cause they like you more. What does that, what does this mean?
Um, but I, you know, there's also something else, you know, which I think the, uh, the
democratic socialists can kind of do here. This was the point that I was trying to make to jank,
um, a couple of weeks ago that I think maybe got lost partially because we were talking about his
nephew and things get emotional when you're talking about family, understandably. Um, but
you know, I remember when Ron Paul was running for president, they used to say that to him
sometimes. In fact, there was a, um, uh, a great moment where one of the Fox news guys can't
remember his name, the black ball dude. He asks him, he goes, he goes, well, Hey, like you're
opposed to the war in Iraq at the time. And he goes, so why are you running for the Republican
nomination? You know, like you're not really a Republican. You're like the whole party is for
the war. So why are you running? And then he was like, well, he goes,
if you think about it, like every, everything I've ever said or written in every vote I've ever
cast, it has been completely in line with the constitution. I'm the most conservative member
up here, you know? And like, in some ways the, the democratic socialists can kind of do that
to the liberals and go, what are you talking about? Like I'm the, we're for democracy,
Democrats, the democratic party, like, okay, what is the, you know, what did, what did the
communists think about democracy? They were big.
Right. I mean, it's like, I don't know. They're in some ways it's like, yeah,
your whole platform is, we'll give you some free shit. And mine is, we'll give you some more free
shit. Why doesn't, why doesn't that belong? Where's the line? You know, I saw so many of them,
you know, even like even Bill Maher at a point in this show, he goes, he's like, look, I'm with
him on universal healthcare and all this. Oh, I saw, I saw our buddy who I love to death, but I
saw Shane Gillis saying on, on Rogan's podcast the other week, it's like, nah, dude, like communism,
sucks, but healthcare, free healthcare, that's not communism. That's cool. And it's like,
well, okay. I mean, look, dude, yes, it certainly is true that just because you have social socialist
healthcare, that doesn't mean you're going to be a full communist country. So, okay. That is true.
There's lots of countries with universal healthcare that aren't full fledged communist
countries. Right. So that is true. You could have a healthcare system that's run by the state
and not be a full fledged communist country. So that is true. You could have a healthcare system
everything else be run by the state. However, universal healthcare is a bad idea for the exact
same reason that communism is a bad idea. Like, yes, it'd be much worse to have the state run
everything than to just have the state run healthcare, but having state run healthcare
is bad for the same reason that having state run everything is bad. And, you know, these guys,
they all, um, I don't know, Rob, I mean, they all just like, you know, they sit,
they sit there and they go, well, look, like we, we don't have universal healthcare and we have,
you know, our system, whatever is, uh, they'll say things where they say, Rob, and we get worse
results, right? We don't have universal healthcare and we pay more for medical care than other
countries who do have universal healthcare. And it's like, and we're sicker, you know,
but all of that is like, this is how leftists argue. None of it is even linear. It doesn't
even follow the system. It's like, first of all, we're not sicker because of our health insurance system. That is not what's
making people in this country sick. People are sick because of what they're eating, what they're
ingesting, the toxins around them, like all types of different reasons. But like the major ones are
like over-processed food, smoking, drinking, drug use. Like those are like the major things, um,
and all types of lifestyle things. So like the fact that we're sicker isn't necessarily a result
of our health insurance system. So like, you know, we're not sicker because of our health insurance
system. It's much more a result of our agricultural policy of our big pharma policy of our, right? Like
a whole bunch of different things. So that, and then paying more for a minute, it's like, okay,
fine. But dude, go talk to people in, in countries where there's universal healthcare. They have all
the same type of problems that can't like, they have the exact same problems with healthcare
that Mao's China had with food. But it's because Mao collected
the means of production of farming, you know, or he collectivized the farms themselves. Right. And
you're just collectivizing the means of production of healthcare during the exact same problem,
shortages, long wait times, a long way. Go, go talk to, talk to somebody from Canada who needed
ankle surgery. You know, like there's talking to me about the wait times they have for normal
doctor visits, by the way, our, our system sucks, but yes, actually socialized,
healthcare is bad for the same reason that socialism is wrong. Anyway, the point is once
you concede that, then why shouldn't the democratic socialist challenge you to be consistent on
everything else? Yep. I think, uh, both Donald Trump and, uh, the, uh, Democrats have that problem
that they're, uh, they, they're essentially socialists. So you just get someone who wants
to do more of the socialist thing and they're new and fresh and pitching it as I actually care about
you. Unlike these other corrupt individuals.
And I'm going to get into the steel system and steal on your behalf and make sure that you're
representative and that you can live a normal life. And you're at least thinking, well, this
is new and different. Maybe this guy's actually being honest and can pull it off. Yeah. Cause
you're not, you're not actually having an eye. Uh, uh, you're not having like a philosophical
or political debate about the value of socialism, uh, and whether or not it works because both the
Republicans and Democrats have implemented it. And Trump spent, has spent more than anyone.
And he's engaged in the worst social
thing, which is a war. We're all paying for that. No, that's exactly right, dude. And, and then it
becomes down, it comes down to a thing where it's like, well, at least this guy's saying he's going
to do some socialism for me, you know, instead of just doing socialism for weapons companies in
Israel, at least he's going to do some for, for us. Um, which you could understand where that's a,
that's a preferable, uh, socialism to a lot of people. Um, okay, let's, let's do, I did want to
play a little bit, just this, this Ben Shapiro video. Now I know we did, I did two shows last
week on the, uh, the debate between Andrew Wilson and Candace Owens. And so I'm not even really
trying to re litigate any of that here. I'm more just interested in Ben Shapiro's take and how,
how funny I find this debate. Um, you know, my, uh, my, my interest in all of this, I guess is,
is more, um, it's more kind of directional about like where, where the kind of movement is going.
or the audiences and with the stuff I was saying before
about this administration collapsing
and 2008, 28, excuse me, being a big opportunity.
But so I thought this was just interesting.
Look, obviously it was a topic
that was hard not to talk about
because it was like one of these
real internet breaking moments.
And of course, you know, it's the entire internet
was kind of talking about it for a bit.
But so here was Ben Shapiro weighing in.
Now I thought this, I don't know why,
partly, I guess, Rob,
maybe because I've done a lot of big debates
and I have a big debate
that's potentially coming up here tomorrow
that I was thinking about this.
But I just thought this was fascinating to watch
Ben Shapiro actually come out with this take.
Here it is.
Let's watch.
Lots of people watched it,
which is the reason we're commenting on it.
Because again, people are now treating
matters of truth as matters of entertainment.
And this is the bigger message here
is that when a public begins to treat
matters of baseline truth
as matters of pure entertainment,
of pure, just distraction,
what you end up with is the worst form
of political debate
and the worst form of human behavior.
Truly, it's bad, bad stuff.
This thing has 1.5 million views
on Patrick Pettis.
So, Rob, I mean, you know, there is this thing.
I found this a bunch, Rob,
when debating Israel supporters.
There's a lot of, hmm, how do I put this?
Perhaps the term would be,
chutzpah, Rob, like that you just kind of can't believe
you're hearing this from the person
you're hearing it from.
You know, I remember one time I was debating Jonathan,
what's his name?
I want to say Greenblatt,
but I think I'm confusing him with the ADL guy.
I was the guy who was the IDF spokesman.
So he's an IDF spokesman.
He's debating me on Piers Morgan.
It's a thick Israeli accent, you know?
And I said something, I forget exactly what I said,
but he goes, he goes, now, now that,
you go too far.
You go too far now.
He said, what you said before, this I can respect.
What you say now, I don't respect this.
And there was just some point he said it to me,
and I went, sir, you're the spokesman
for a terrorist organization.
No one cares what you respect, you know?
But like, there is a thing, it's kind of like
our dear buddy Noam, the comedy seller,
always loves to do this, right?
Where he goes, how about we do this?
I'll sit in the position of judge,
and you will appear before.
And I will judge it.
And you're like, no, actually,
we'll just be two dudes who are talking,
is in fact what we're going to do here.
There is a, for Ben Shapiro, of all people,
like we're just supposed to forget
who this motherfucker is,
how he rose to fame and made millions of dollars.
Dude, you debate 19 year olds over
whether their gender conforms with their identity.
You're talking about how this was a spectacle.
This was a stupid debate that got a lot of eyeballs on me.
But it wasn't like a real serious topic
or something like that.
I, Rob, this is unbelievable.
These guys, dude, they will, there is,
I don't know if you've ever seen any of like
some of the stuff that Daily Wire will do,
but it's slop that like me and you never,
we never have a segment on our show
where we'll just be like, let's cover the Oscars
or let's cover this.
He debates children on the dumbest topics ever
and yet is somehow looking down at this
as being just like, oh, beyond,
beyond the realm of dignified debate
or something like that.
All right, guys, let's take a moment
and thank our sponsor for today's show,
which is Cowboy Colostrum.

There's no artificial flavors, no fillers,

- I'll reserve more of my comments for the end,
but just the first card that he's laying down,
which is very disingenuous is I don't believe
that Andrew Wilson went in with the intention
of just creating entertainment.
And so this kind of feels like both censorship and cope
to reframe what took place.
- Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, let's keep playing it.
- The channel, PBD moderated this by,
which we really mean that if you watch the thing,
he basically sat in the center and looked
as though he wanted to be anywhere else,
except in the middle of this mess.
4.3 million views on Canvas's channel.
- Dude, PBD was there because he wanted to be there.
The idea that PBD just looked like he really didn't want
to be there, really?
'Cause he looked to me like a guy who's worth
$900 million who flew on his private plane to go,
there and moderate the debate and could have been anywhere
else that he wanted to be.
That's what I saw.
By the way, I also think PBD did an excellent job.
I did not say this, I think.
And I think I actually meant to,
I kicked myself later in the day for not saying it
on our recap episode, but PBD did an excellent job.
You know, when people go, oh, the moderator just sat there
and didn't say anything.
Yeah, that's what you're supposed to do.
That's what good moderation is.
Ideally the moderator shouldn't be talking.
Like ideally the people should be debating
and then the moderator should only jump into like,
if someone's interrupting,
or refusing to answer a question,
or there's some type of appeal to a fact checker.
I thought Pat did a very good job.
This is, anyway, this is all just silly to say.
But anyway, yes, no, the numbers you're reading off,
that's why Pat wanted to be there.
That's the business.
All right, let's keep going.
- Views on Kansas' channel,
and another half million or so on Wilson.
So 6.5 million views on YouTube alone
in the first couple of days here.
And naturally, everyone who watches
came out with precisely the opinion they had before.
Candace's followers are saying that she demolished Wilson.
And PBD's commenters pointed out
how he really couldn't moderate
because it was just a mess.
And Andrew Wilson's fans are saying that he wrecked her.
And both sides are now running clips
claiming that their respective side won.
None of this is useful.
None of this, and what's more,
there's a moral problem here.
When you debate for money,
over the matter of whether-
- Pause it for a second.
Pause it for a second.
It's like, all right, so first of all, like,
that doesn't really seem to be true.
I mean, whatever, but it's not as if,
look, I think me and you represent two people who,
it's not like we came into this with a clear cut side,
and then we're just like, yeah, we're on that side.
There were a lot of people who just watched the debate
and had an opinion about the debate.
Now, what is the fact?
Look, the general consensus is that Candace won the debate.
He doesn't wanna say that because that, of course,
really looks bad for the point that he's trying to make.
But I gotta say, you know,
Rob, okay, here's a little something I'll think,
just, you know, from my own perspective now.
I admit, maybe this is a little bit egotistical,
but also I do, you know, I live life in my,
from my perspective.
You know, another debate that also got
roughly 6.5 million views on YouTube in the first few days
was my debate with Douglas Murray.
The debate was not about a conspiracy theory, Rob.
The debate was about a war that was currently going on,
there were two wars that were currently going on.
It was a debate where I did nothing but make
substantive points and then, by the way,
after the debate, Rob, it was an overwhelming consensus
that I won the debate.
But Ben Shapiro doesn't look at that and go,
oh, hey, well, look, we had all of the things here.
We had a substantive debate and we had a clear consensus
and a whole lot of people changed their minds
based off the debate.
Like, he just, they, my point is that they lay out
these kind of like criteria that they, even if you passed it,
you would never admit that like, oh, okay,
well, that was a legit debate and you got a legit win
and the audience agreed with it.
It doesn't matter how decisive it is,
there will always be a thing.
It will, with the Douglas Murray one, it was,
oh, the problem is I'm a comedian, I'm not an expert.
With the Candace Owens one, the problem is that
Pat didn't moderate well enough or whatever.
The fact is that this is a legitimate topic to debate.
They had a big public debate over it.
Ben Shapiro has had far more ridiculous debates
over the years.
And in fact, you know, when it comes down to it,
if you search debates of Ben Shapiro
versus Israel supporting liberal on something,
you'll find a million examples.
If you search Ben Shapiro debating leftist child,
you'll find limitless examples.
If you find Ben Shapiro debating Israel, you can't find one.
Ben Shapiro debating the Iran war.
Ben Shapiro debating the Iraq war.
Ben Shapiro debating the war in Syria.
Those don't exist 'cause he won't come out
and actually debate any of this stuff.
So I mean, it's just there's really like the level of
chutzpah, the level of nerve for you to come out when you're known for debating 19 year olds about
trans nonsense, to start talking about what debates are useful and are not like you branded
yourself as the political debate guy. And in the moment of political debates, you've ducked
everyone. So I don't know. This shit drives me crazy. Yeah, let's play. Let's play the last
little bit and then make a response. A person who clearly murdered somebody,
murdered somebody, and whether the person who is claiming that the true murderer might in fact be
his wife, might in fact be his best friends, might in fact be people who surround him.
What you are doing is granting the imprimatur of decency to a debate that is indecent at its heart.
But a 19 year old trans kid or an abortionist, it's not. Are you granting them decency?
Well, like, what does it mean? You debate something, you're granting it decency.
Is that actually Ben Shapiro's position here? Has every pro-lifer been granting
abortion decency when they've debated it? I think you have to debate something if you
find it to be indecent also. The other thing there, Rob, is that it's like, of course, this isn't.
He's presenting this in a way which is bullshit. I mean, he's saying, oh, you can't, you can't,
you can't have the debate because you're defending a killer. Well, no, we're debating about who the
killer is, right? You're not defending the killer. And then also, Candace didn't accuse Erica of
murder. That's not true. And like, I don't know, I guess just essentially what it comes down to,
what Ben Shapiro is saying, is that what? You can't debate whether high profile
political assassinations could be conspiracy related. Why? Because the state is always so
right. Oh, you can't look at people close to the victim. That's what police do. The vast majority
of murders are committed by someone close to the victim. Like, so again, it's just all bravado with
actually no substance there, ironically, as he complains about the debate having no substance.
Yeah, this is just purely a censorship play with him as, trust me, as the voice of authority.
If you think that someone has a view that is completely morally reprehensible, well, if you
actually believe that, then we're going to have to debate it.
Then why not debate them and showcase that they have a morally reprehensible view?
You know what you do when you can't actually defend your position? You're just trying to
push the other one down is go. I can't even engage with that, which is what we had through all the
COVID was you just censor the point of reviews that you can't actually win a debate with and
just go, well, these people are putting public health in danger. Oh, this is just so morally
reprehensible. We can't even talk to them. You mean you think you might lose a debate if you
had a conversation with them?
Sounds to me like you don't really believe in your perspective and you're lying to me.
Yep. And, and look again, this is the, this is really the heart of the issue, right? Is that
you have people out there who are trying to make arguments about matters of policy. And then you
have people like Ben Shapiro who are essentially what they're like, well, no, I'm going to play
referee and I'm going to determine what positions on matters of policy you're allowed to have.
But it's like, no one ever agreed that you're the ref. You're not, you're not in charge of any of
the rest of us. And as, as I've been saying now, Rob, on this show for, um, I guess at least what
for almost three years now, right? Almost since, since October 7th. Um, I've been saying that like,
yo, this shit ain't, you're going to have to actually get down off your fake throne and get
down here and argue.
With the rest of us, like this shit ain't going to work. Nobody's listening to you. And then
look after what Israel's done over the last three years, just no one sees her defenders as the
moral arbiters anymore. You know, that's, you're not going to be able to play that game. Um, and
you can't be known for debating children over gender confusion and then come out and say,
I will tell you what is legitimate and illegitimate for big debates.
And Shapiro got a lot of views debating much dumber things than Andrew
Wilson and Candace Owens did. That's for sure. All right. That's our show for today.
Catch you guys tomorrow at 1 PM. Peace.
