Speaker 3Welcome into the OG hour on the Arrowhead Addict Podcast. It is Thursday, July 16th. Patrick Allen here with you, joined by my co-host, the blog father, Adam Bess. Adam, how's your July going, man? We're halfway through. It feels like we were just doing 4th of July content, and here we are. It's July 16th, and we're like less than. i mean that has been what's always impressed me whereas belichick did a lot of his damage with brady uh and you know you look back at his record without brady and it's it's not so great it doesn't mean that i don't think he was a good coach just like andy wasn't a bad coach even though he had never won a super bowl until he got patrick mahomes but you need that guy to be truly truly great he had
Speaker 4been to one though bill belichick before you know his first stop he had nick saban on his staff he had a loaded staff and at you know as an ohio guy you know the cleveland browns part of the reason the cleveland browns stopped existing for a little while is because those guys couldn't get it done right get it done
Speaker 3they couldn't get it done but he was young he grew i mean you know he grew as a coach um but yeah they didn't have a
Speaker 4quarterback and it's the browns you know i hate to say it's the browns i know that probably probably stings but but but like you know the browns are gonna brown to some extent
Speaker 3well those browns were good though like those browns are the ravens so like they they like they weren't they didn't get it done with belichick but like they actually were a competent football team uh these new browns are that's all i'm not gonna get
Speaker 4into that um well also like ray lewis and ed reed showed up you know what i mean
Speaker 3like yeah so for sure for sure but it was the same continuity you know it was and and they you know they've they've continued to if they had stayed in cleveland they would have been having the same success that they've had in baltimore uh so you know unless you believe in curses which people well no i i don't
Speaker 4because what i've seen cleveland win with lebron so unless you just think lebron is so so powerful he can he can crash all smash all uh curses by the way is he going to cleveland are we going to find that out

Speaker 3i don't know man look i i want him to uh i think it makes sense from a storytelling perspective if he's gonna play his last year he's had a documentary film crew following him if i had to guess at what is happening is that my prediction is that he's gonna go back to cleveland he's had the last dance documentary people following him around for a couple of years what is happening right now i don't know man look i i want him to uh i think it makes sense from a storytelling perspective if he's gonna play his last year he's had a documentary film crew following him if i had to guess at what is happening is that my prediction is that he's gonna go back to cleveland is like the first 15 minutes of that documentary and it's gonna end up with him going back to cleveland right but if the documentary starts and he's in la and he's like i want to go home i want to go to cleveland and that's the start of the documentary well dramatically speaking that's not particularly interesting but if they can have a whole segment of all right things aren't working out with la i think this might be the last year what am i going to do where am i going to go and they're filming him getting courted by the warrior and they're filming him getting courted by the heat the 76ers and they're going to be able to splice in these three weeks of people on cleveland radio and in miami losing their minds and talking with lebron coming where's lebron gonna go like you can literally hear it in the documentary and then it's he's going back to cleveland and that that gives you the the heart if you're making a last dance style documentary and you're going to the warriors you're going to the 76ers that just doesn't play for me in terms of like drama uh miami i could i could buy into miami like i could buy into you know that would work for a documentary not as well as cleveland would but it would work because he won his first championships there the heatles that was the decision like i could see him like being like i went back to cleveland i won them a championship now i'm going to go back to miami finish things off and try to win one with the honest like that it doesn't work as well but it i think is going on but watch me be a clown and he'll sign with like the timberwolves or something
Speaker 4he's on uh his podcast right now with my guy tyrese i guess right now fanatics fest they're recording and some people think he's gonna announce i don't know that he's gonna announce but uh tyrese was trolling people he ain't going to indiana i can tell you that but he was he was trolling people yesterday on twitter it wouldn't be a bad place to go i mean it's the in 49 states it's just basketball but this is indiana you know hoosiers they've got a loaded deep team you you put aaron neesmith on the bench you put lebron of the three they're going back to the finals but it's not going to happen i think it's warriors cleveland heat and what i'm thinking about when i watch this is i'm not gonna even say the name but i just hope we chiefs fans never ever ever ever have to go
Speaker 3through this yeah oh god no please no um i i just think that like um oh interesting draft kings is no longer letting you bet yes on lebron returning to the calves oh that's interesting you know it's just like if it's if it's basketball like he can do whatever he wants i built him a statue he won my team a championship i love him he's one of my favorite players ever i want him to do whatever's gonna make him happy because it's his career and it's his life but if he's doing the documentary thing there is no fan base that is going to cheer for you miami a little bit but it's miami um you want to create that last dance style documentary you go to cleveland every game like if he goes back to cleveland i'm gonna be buying i'm gonna be driving to cleveland multiple times to see him play in cleveland during this last magical run right he is every game is going to be this is the last time i'm seeing it this is the last time i'm seeing it this could be the last time i'm seeing lebron play like whether he wins a title or not it's like if he goes to the i know this is a chiefs podcast i'm sorry we're going to be finished up you guys listen to vergon talk about the knicks all the time if he goes if he goes to golden state and wins the title there then his documentary is a success but if he doesn't like it's the lamest anticlimactic you get a climax in cleveland no matter what whether he wins the title or not because he's going to be beloved
Speaker 4yeah and i think there's right now he's worn a calves jersey he's worn a lakers jersey he's won a heat worn a heat jersey and i think in this era where it's more transient for players that's okay you throw a fourth jersey in the mix i don't know that muddies the water a little bit i i take a tremendous amount of pride in my favorite players growing up derrick thomas and reggie miller they only wore one jersey they only bled for one team and i think that's a great thing to see that's what i'm really looking forward to with travis kelsey and chris jones say what you will about them but they never put on another team's helmet i think there's a lot of value in that maybe that's not possible in today's nba but i think his story so far makes sense when you look at he he was in cleveland they just couldn't build a team around him so he paired with a couple other superstars in miami and under pat riley and they got it done and then he went to the lakers where many many great stars all of a sudden he was in cleveland and he was in cleveland and he was in also go and he went out west to kind of like get into entertainment all that and then he went back home again you know he for the i guess the second time after winning one last time against the warriors i think you can kind of like piece together that story he goes to philadelphia what the hell is that story how do you close the book what kind of final chapter is that
Speaker 3if he's playing his last ever nba game in philly and they're not and it's not them winning the boot those maniacs will be booing him yes sir if he if he's losing if they're losing in uh eastern conference finals or the finals in cleveland he will be getting a standing ovation you know so we'll see uh but let's get back to chief's talk people are probably already tuning out let's talk about uh this mahomes allen debate that is just like raging on twitter a couple couple rankings came out it's that time of year and everybody is just fighting about whether or not josh allen is the best quarterback in the nfl it seems like such an absurd like suggestion to me and i love alan i think he's great i think he's far and away the second best quarterback in the nfl he's your cousin he is my cousin um you know his middle name is is uh patrick i do
Speaker 4know that yeah
Speaker 3uh yeah so anyway um what do you think of this debate a lot of so is your
Speaker 4middle name technically it's my middle name as well listeners know that but
Speaker 3yes yeah um what do you think about this whole thing is this just like is this just it's summer like we're gonna have this ridiculous argument
Speaker 4well people have been trying to make this argument for the better part of a decade because they get bored with the status quo and i think the chiefs and homes people were saying this kind of stuff looking for you know they're elevating everyone from justin herbert to cj stroud trying to like take mahomes off the throne and the chiefs and that always looked ridiculous because the chiefs kept winning right and homes kept finding a way especially in the postseason what we didn't get to see this offseason is patrick mahomes in the postseason and i think what this conversation misses is like i don't care what josh allen does in the regular season i don't even care what josh allen does in the wildcard round what does he do in the divisional round what does he do in the conference championship does he get to the super bowl i do think that that wins aren't necessarily a quarterback stat but i do think crunch time wins are a quarterback stat playoff wins are a quarterback stat and one thing we see from patrick mahomes is yeah like in the regular season lately he has not been the same guy i would argue the infrastructure around him is kind of crumbling but in the playoffs it outside of the super bowl in 2024 and especially you know 2023 which wasn't as good of a year as his mb year of 2022 his play in the playoffs is at an mvp level every time he elevates his play even in these down seasons in the postseason what does josh allen do fumble the ball a bunch lose to the broncos and in the most wide open playoff afc playoff field i've seen and i don't know at least a decade at least a decade so i think josh allen is gun to head the second best quarterback in the league but i don't think he's got that big of a gap between him and lamar i mean maybe he's had a little bit more playoff success than lamar jackson but not a lot joe burrow's actually had more playoff success right uh and maybe some of that's coaching i i don't think so is that taylor really that good of a coach i know luna anaruma was and maybe some of that's having jamar chase and t higgins but i think there's a real argument for burrow in there too i actually think josh allen is probably closer to matt stafford than he is patrick mahomes when you when you look at who's really stepped i mean maybe even matt stafford's closer to patrick mahomes if you're just evaluating on these these guys on who delivered in crunch time when it matters most uh i just think i think it's ridiculous i think they see the opportunity to to tear the king down when the chiefs are at their weakest and i i think they also realize that this they're able to prop josh up and and they've got to like capitalize on the opportunity to like yap about it yeah it's
Speaker 3just such a tired i mean look honestly that i think we all get caught up in it and it's hard not to we like talking ball right and then you get caught up with these trolls who are like you know alan's better because mahomes had a couple of down statistical seasons you know they're like i i saw a guy he tweeted out he was he tweeted out patrick's stats for the last three years and he's like mahomes has been trash and i'm like pro in two of those years he went to the super bowl and in one of them he won it like who cares like so who cares if somebody can stat stuff during the regular season do they win the ultimate goal of this game is to win and yes it is a team game but this whole like wins aren't a quarterback stat um i just i wholeheartedly disagree with that i think they are it's not entirely a quarterback stat but if matt castle was the quarterback of these chiefs teams during this run with all the hall of fame talent tyree kill do they win any super bowls no they they did not win they would not win a single and i'm not throwing shade on matt castle but they would not have won a single super bowl they were they were the inferior team and most of their super bowls from a talent top to bottom perspective and they won because all you
Speaker 4could argue you can't
Speaker 3you absolutely can and they won because of patrick mahomes they won these playoff games they fall down 24 to nothing to the houston texans with alex smith as their quarterback they do not win that game they just don't do it they do not beat philadelphia the first time with alex smith because alex smith probably probably gets sacked or throws the ball away on the run that patrick made on the bum ankle to get them into field goal range and ice the game right like maybe he makes that play alex was mobile but like more often than not and it was just it's because patrick's different like that's the thing and when they try to argue that that josh allen is better and they they have all the excuses in the world for why the chiefs won tyree kill and andy reed and steve spagnuolo and all the excuses in the world for why josh loses his his teammates let him down like there are plenty of instances of chiefs players letting patrick down uh making terrible plays he might have another super bowl if it wasn't for d ford harrison butker missed kicks two of them i think in the 13 seconds game and they still managed to to find a way to win that game josh allen had the ball he had the ball in the afc champ in the afc championship game i think it was championship game against the chiefs Or maybe it was he threw that.
Speaker 4No, I think it was the conference championship. He threw that pass to Dalton Kincaid.
Speaker 3Right. Yeah. And they're like, well, Dalton Kincaid didn't catch it. I'm like, bro, how'd they get to fourth down? Like he made the Josh Allen made an incredible play there. He made an incredible play. I can't believe he got that ball off. He's awesome. It was, he had a chance to catch it. The blitz was better. Right. But like he had the ball. We have seen Patrick Mahomes have the ball. He has the ball losing. And what has he done more often than not? He has led the team to win. That's why the loss in the AFC championship game against the Bengals was so shocking because it's such an outlier for him that he wasn't able to close the deal there and get the touchdown. And so trying to give credit to a coined, like he is, he has the Joe Montana gene, man. Like that's why he's in the conversation with a guy like Joe Montana, because when Joe Montana needed to be great, he was always great. Brady, when Brady needed to be great, he was always great. He always found a way to win. That is the X factor. That is the difference. Statistically, uh, physically talent wise, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, they're right there with each other, but he has the clutch gene. And right now, um, I'm sorry, man, but right now, Josh Allen has a frigging playoff lost a bone Knicks. Like that's it. Like that's why Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the, in the NFL because not because of his stats, not because of this or that, because he's literally the X factor for why this team has had such wild success. And I'm not throwing that out the window because he and the team had one bad season. He continues to struggle. Yeah. Maybe after this year, Josh Allen goes and wins the super bowl. If the chiefs go, we'll only win seven games. And Patrick has a bunch of interceptions. Yeah. Josh Allen will be the best quarterback in the NFL, but right now I'm sorry, man, that he's, he's got some work to do.
Speaker 4They just get held to completely different standards. And Josh Allen has the greatest PR I've ever seen of any athlete. Maybe, maybe in the history of pro sports on the Brady front. I think Patrick Mahomes is more clutch. I just, I just do. We've seen outside of that Joe Burrow loss. Uh, we've seen Patrick Mahomes in any close game he's ever been in, in the playoffs. When we've seen Tom Brady and Joe, Montana for that matter, lose close, close playoff games before we've seen Tom Brady lose to Jake Plummer and Mark Sanchez in the playoffs and all that, like two future hall of Hamers. The only guys that the only quarterbacks with playoff wins over, over Patrick Mahomes. I know a couple of those are Brady, but, but like, I don't know. We all know what happened in those games. And we don't really need to make excuses for Patrick Mahomes because Patrick Mahomes has got it done so much. And I, I think you can say, well, what if Josh Allen had Christian Jones? Okay. You know? And what, you know, what if he had a combo like Tyreek and Travis Kelsey? Well, those guys only won one Superbowl together and the other Superbowl he won. Uh, the other couple were, were with, yeah, I think Juju had a good season and then Rasheed Rice had a good season, but the rest of those guys, man, they can't even stick around. They can't even get playing time. They're not even sticking around the league, you know, where MDS and McCall Hardman, and, and, and the rest of those, nobody wants those guys. They're not even, they're not even players. Patrick Mahomes right I don't want to call them Walmart greeters or something because I think that's a that's a little a little reductive but they're not they're not teams that any other serious Super Bowl contender would rely on and and that's what sets Patrick Mahomes apart is that the excuses that they've made in Buffalo about the offense around him uh Patrick Mahomes doesn't have a perfect offense either he's had a revolving door at tackle look at his running backs does he doesn't have he doesn't have uh the the bookend tackles that Josh Allen has he doesn't have James freaking Cook you know what I mean so there are also advantages that Josh Allen has had even though yes I think to some extent he's the other guy where his coaching staff in front office have asked him to carry too much of the load when it comes to the receiving uh options around him they need they need to have a perfect offense and he's had a revolving door at tackle look at his running they've needed to put better players around him and they went out and got DJ Moore so we'll see and now Sean McDermott is gone so that's one excuse that they'll no longer have if he doesn't get it done and this is the year where Peyton Manning in year nine finally won a Super Bowl so like the the clock is ticking on Josh Allen uh when it comes to always a bridesmaid never a bride what you doing boss

Speaker 3it done i mean the fact that he didn't win a super bowl last year if you told bill's fans that patrick mahomes wouldn't be in the playoffs and all all he that josh allen would have to do would be get by bo nicks and drake may to get to the super bowl they would they would have and sam donald to win right and sam donald they would have bet their life savings on on that bet um it just look is what it is man like i love josh allen i think he's a great guy i think he's a great guy i think he's a great guy i think he's so much i love watching him i think he's a great player i think he seems like a super good dude and we've talked about those fans on this show i like those fans too like make no mistake these people that we're talking about there are plenty of knuckleheads in the chief's kingdom out there on twitter every team has them bill's fans are a lot more like us than than they are different and they're they're uh they're rivals and all that stuff but most bills fans i meet are super cool they just love their team they want to get over the hump we know what that's like uh so i i always want to tell chiefs fans like hey let's not become like those pompous patriots fans just because we've had that success and i don't think most chiefs fans do that you hear people go to arrowhead and even raiders fans and they get treated well and they have a good time um but there's idiots everywhere so we're not trying to i'm not trying to dunk on bills fans too much because i think they're a lot more like us than than maybe maybe some chiefs fans would like to admit but the fact of the matter is josh allen has to get it done he has not they act like some of the best fans in the world and they're not the best fans in the world and they're some of these people act like he's been playing on the bad news bears or something and then you have stefan diggs and he didn't have top defenses and they throw sean mcdermott under the bus i still think he's a good coach even though i think he blew that 13 seconds game for him you know but like that's that's that's it man like is he gonna be dan marino or is he is he gonna is he gonna win a couple and like he just has to do it like you just every every quarterback every great has faced nobody nobody's past to being a great player or winning championships is a is a bet of uh like a bet of roses you know uh it's it's it's hard so um you want a weird comp
Speaker 4i'm going back to basketball just because i'm trying to think of somebody i don't think the peyton manning comp is a good one because they're just such different players i'll give josh allen this if it's third and four and they're past their own 40 just go ahead and move the chains just move them because josh allen is going to pick up those four yards he's going to take off he's going to run he's going to find there's just no way you can stop him and i've often said that josh allen is the only quarterback that makes me feel like oh this is what it's like to root against patrick mahomes this is that helpless feeling that we instill in other fan bases he gives me a little bit of that but he's got he's got to get it done you go to the playoffs that many times the greats find a way regardless of who is around them and he it reminds me a little bit of dirt novitsky because dirt novitsky came along like physically there had never been anybody like him and i think josh allen is like that he's like i know lamar is also equally unique uh but we've kind of seen like michael vick and rg3 we've seen this this sort of prototype uh evolve josh allen can can can scramble and do design runs and all that but he is just a he's just a bull he's like if you put i don't know if you combine like randall cunningham and and big ben or something like how do you how do you deal with a monster like that but he's gotta find a way to cement his legacy and i feel for bills fans i would much rather have i'd rather have 10 cups of coffee with the bills fan that then spend 15 minutes with an eagles fan i can tell you i can tell you that much right right right now uh but you have to feel for them because they've just been through football purgatory and actually i was really rooting for them last year i wanted them to get it done i think it would have been better for the mahomes and alan rivalry if he got it done and i definitely didn't want to see the broncos win so i was really disappointed that and i didn't want to see the patriots go to the super bowl again like are you kidding me after brady and all that bullshit they have another quarterback it's like the spurs or something but uh i digress uh i think we agree that this is this is sort of a ridiculous debate and that doesn't mean josh allen's not a future hall of famer
Speaker 3yeah absolutely um all right let's we're gonna keep it moving here we got a little bit of a late start so i do want to uh just quickly everybody listen if you like the show we have a really really cool opportunity uh we are doing our summer giveaway pre-season giveaway whatever you want to call it um and over the next four weeks we're going to be giving away a uh a chief's jersey to one of you out there and there is one thing that you have to do to get to the top of the list you have to do to enter to be entered in this and that is sign up for our new arrowhead addict text group uh so this is a chance for you to get news analysis and updates from the arrowhead addict podcast crew on your phone via a text message don't worry about i can sell your data do anything crazy with it um but you just need to be part of this text group so all you need to do and and this is the exciting thing to be entered to win this jersey once you are part of this text group you will win this jersey and you will win this jersey and you will win this jersey and you will automatically be entered to win every giveaway that we do as long as this text group exists so you'll never have to enter or do anything you'll just automatically be entered and then you're going to get you're going to get you know bonus content you can respond uh to us there at the arrowhead podcast we'll send you observations analysis during games don't worry we're not going to blow up your phone but it's just another way to support the show and connect with us and be entered to win this jersey so this is where we're going to pick our winners from uh so it's completely free other than you know you may have to there may be if you pay for text messages but other than that there's no no charge to be part of this text group you just need to enter you can opt in by texting chiefs to 816-477-5421 again to be entered in all arrowhead addict giveaways uh just text chiefs to 816-477-5421 make sure you save us in your contact so you know that you're getting a text message from the arrowhead addict podcast again text chiefs to 816-477-5421 and you'll get you know updates you know special content really cool stuff uh commentary a little bit of commentary during chiefs games that you can respond to just a really cool fun thing that as we try to take this podcast to the next level we're going to kick it off by giving away a chiefs jersey to one lucky texter all right so we're going to kick it off by giving away a chiefs jersey to one lucky texter all right um really quickly i know i've got a bunch of topics on here and we're not going to get to them all um Uh, but that's okay. The Allen debate, the Holmes Allen debate was fun really quickly. Did you hear this report like a week ago about Sean Payton, who I really don't like Sean Payton. And I really didn't like reading this report. Cause it actually made me kind of like Sean Payton a little bit more. Um, he, he suggested to the ownership of, of the Broncos, uh, stepping back to let Bill Belichick coach the team for as long as it would take for him to get the all time wins record. Uh, this came from ESPN, Seth Wickersham, Belichick's 15 wins away from surpassing Don Shula. So you figure with a, with a good team, he could get there in two years coaching the team. And Sean Payton suggested stepping back, not being the head coach, running the offense for a couple of years for this to happen. It didn't end up working out. It didn't end up working out logistically. There's a lot that has to happen to make something like that work out. What was your take on the story? It was like in insanely generous. Uh, I've never heard anything quite like it.
Speaker 4Uh, yeah, but it's, it's not real. It's not real. Like it's easy for him to come out and say this. And I actually think it's a way for Sean Payton to like center himself in the conversation. You know, even a seemingly generous actor, Sean Payton comes from, uh, his, his ego, like him wanting to be in the center of the conversation. And I think he's also like when things were going south with Russell Wilson and people were saying, Sean Payton's not a good coach. I was on this program saying Sean Payton's one of the best offensive minds we've ever had in this league. He's one of the best coaches we've ever had in this league. I believe he will turn it around. I believe they have a good ownership group and all that has come to fruition, but this is probably just him tactically, uh, looking to get an advantage. If you can, I mean, if you're still really calling the shots in that front office and on game day, you're kind of like technically giving Bill Belichick the head coaching, I don't, I don't know, moniker or whatever, but you're still an equal pilot of that plane. And really for the future, you're the one calling the shots. Like you bring a super, you know, kind of like a super coach into that brain trust tactically, it would give them an advantage, right? Especially when you're dealing with Patrick Mahomes in your division, not just Patrick Mahomes with Justin Herbert. I know Justin Herbert gets a lot of flack, but at worst, he's a top 10 quarterback for everybody. Like if he's not a top 10 quarterback on your list, you're not a I don't see Sean Payton really doing this when push comes to shove because he turned over play calling duties to Davis Webb to keep Davis Webb. I actually wanted the chiefs to hire Davis Webb as offensive coordinator because he's got the Texas tech ties with Patrick Mahomes. And I, I think they would have been an interesting pairing, but he was going to get hired by somebody else, right? Because he's kind of like the next young, anytime they get a whiff of the next McVay or the next Shanahan, everybody wants a piece. I think if they start off, they lose the chiefs and they're, they're, they're staring at like a one and two record is Sean Payton going to pull those play calling duties from him and take over himself. Like that's just the kind of, like he, out of all the Eagle egos in the NFL, when we're looking at owners and GMs and coaches, I think he might be the most egocentric of them all.
Speaker 3So how do you even believe this? I think he's super pompous. But I don't know. I mean, I could see it like this, right? He is, as you pointed out, a really great offensive coach. What is Bill Belichick known for? I mean, this is this guy who has a defensive game plan in the hall of fame. So you bring in him to be the head coach and you guys are working together and he's coordinating, he's running the, the, the, the defense and you're running the offense. That would be a formidable coaching staff. Uh, so I'm glad it didn't happen no matter what, because I, I wouldn't want Bill Belichick on the AFC West, um, teaming up with Sean Payton. But yeah, it was a weird, interesting story. I just thought I'd bring it up on this show. Cause I thought it was interesting and hell it's July.
Speaker 4Um, let's see what the other common link is before we move on. Cause I think it should be said they're both Parcells guys. You know, I think, I think that might be the, the commonality that allowed it to work. They have kind of the same mentor, if you will.
Speaker 3Yeah. I'm surprised that, that Belichick doesn't want to get that record because it's man, it's so hard to break it. You know, it's so hard to break it. The only one who would even have a prayer is right now is Andy Reed. Um, and he's still got a, he would still have a ways to go. So, um, actually I got to look that up now. Uh, let's do it. Let's see. I mean, Bill
Speaker 4Belichick at North Carolina just seemed as like, so Andy, yeah.
Speaker 3Andy is at two 79 and Shula is at three 28. Um, you know, Bill Belichick
Speaker 4being at UNC, it's kind of like American beauty where, where Kevin Spacey, the much maligned Kevin Spacey goes to interview at a fast food restaurant. And they're like, are you sure you want this job? You're kind of overqualified. Like it just, I don't know. It doesn't make sense for Bill Belichick, perhaps the greatest coach you've ever seen. I know Tom Brady is a big part of that equation, but to finish like this when, when, I mean, uh, two decent seasons and that record is his.
Speaker 3Yeah. Andy, Andy needs 49 wins to catch Shula and tie him. So he's 50 wins away. So you figure what four, he needs four years of good seasons.
Speaker 4That would be 12, 12, 12, and 13. I mean, that, that would have to be four. They were on pace before last year. I mean, last year really hurt his, his quest to do that because if they win six more games last season, now you're looking at 11 games a year for four years, gets it done. Does he got another four years in him? I don't, I don't know.
Speaker 3Yeah, it's possible. I mean, he's 23 wins away from Belichick. So he could jump Belichick if he coaches two, three more years.
Speaker 4Um, that might matter more because I like all respect due to Shula who is in the conversation for coaching Mount Rushmore. It's usually, especially like modern football, it's Belichick and Andy Reed that are kind of getting compared to one another, but, but, but also like, think about how young Sean McVay got started and Kyle Shanahan, like, are these records definitely going to stand anyways? You know, you, you coach into your, your seventies or whatever, and you don't go out and play with your grandkids and some after you're dead and gone, some young whippersnapper get your record anyway.
Speaker 3Yeah. It's, uh, it's tough, man. I mean, you know, Andy is, this is a crazy thing, right? So Shula's, uh, Shula's winning percentage career winning percentage is six 77. Hollis is six 82 Belichick, six 47, Andy six 40. Um, but Andy's winning percentage with the Eagles was five 83. His winning percentage with the chiefs is 700. Whereas Belichick was four 50 with the Cleveland Browns and six 87 with the Patriots. Those last couple of years hurt him.
Speaker 4Uh, that's a, that's a Mahomes stat, you know, cause you can, you can say, Hey, uh, drew blood. So, and these other guys are, are bringing down the Patriots. Well, Alex Smith was, you know, it wasn't, it's not all Mahomes.
Speaker 3So, yeah. Yeah. All right. Let's get into a little bit of movie talk here. Uh, we're going to do, the 2010s for Patty's power rankings, three recommendations from the 2010s. Um, I think, I think I started us off last time. So why don't you get us going now?
Speaker 4I am less prepared than usual, but I am going to just go off the cuff and go with the raid and Indonesian movie. No honorable mentions today. I'm just going to do three. Uh, I think this has been one of the best, uh, action blocking, like, you know, fighting I've ever seen in my life. Kung Fu I've ever seen in my life. There's one moment where a, uh, how do I explain this premise as quickly as possible? Basically there is this slum tower run by a drug organization, a crime organization, and this tactical like squat, like team is trying to infiltrate this. And like, and like take the organization down. So the tenants who live there can kind of like be free of oppression. So they're, they're like climbing up to the top of the tower, trying to take down this organization. And there's a scene where, uh, the bad guys kind of like drop to the floor and try to shoot these squat guys. And one of the guys like catches him in the midair, tackles him and like scoops him and throws him through a window, like 10 stories up and stuff like that. And it's kind of just breathtaking. Uh, you know, we've had action movies for so long at this point. And I don't know if this is 2012 or what, some, something around there, but it's hard. It's like the dunk contest at some time. You've seen everything, right? it's hard to throw new wrinkles at audiences and this had so many new wrinkles uh and it's just a really impressive movie by someone this is kind of like his calling card Gareth Edwards he went on to direct a Godzilla movie uh he did Rogue One so this was kind of it's it's interesting because he did like a small film in Mexico and he kind of like grew up in Indonesia or something so he went back there and did this action film there uh I can't even explain this movie other than that just like the act the action is what you're there for and it's breathtaking I gotta check it out

Speaker 3me I got I do have one honorable mention and that is uh boyhood later film um which I've been meaning to watch again now that I have a son of my own um such a cool idea uh if you don't know if you've never seen this movie they filmed it over I think 12 years and told the story of the parent-child relationship starting with a kid being in like first grade and then going all the way up until he's going to college and with the same actors Ethan Hawks in this movie um Patricia Arquette it's a really fascinating uh movie it's not my like I don't think it's an awesome movie uh but they really took a risk and it's it's not bad it's not a bad film um but the premise is just so cool and it's such it's an interesting watch to see one movie and see a kid literally grow up before your eyes in the movie with the same actor not recasting and it was really ambitious and really cool so check out boyhood if you've done kirk are you a big dunkirk guy no no I'm an I'm an
Speaker 4I'm an early stage no one guy I I hate to say I think I I recognize the technical brilliance no doubt though
Speaker 3yeah that was for me uh you know I try to since we're not doing favorites here we're just giving interesting recommendations I hate war movies I just they make me feel awful uh and so I generally am never too excited to watch them even though there are some really great films out there and we've talked about them a lot but I think it's a good movie talked about some of them on this show uh this is just technically like an incredible film to watch it's very tense uh it's the the way that they did some of the the shots and and stuff is just absolutely incredible um I I think it's worth a watch uh really really interesting film particularly particularly if you like this kind of movie uh Nolan Nolan's just he's awesome man uh what's your number two
Speaker 4I'm gonna keep it on the foreign front and go with a movie called Bad Genius and this is a Thai film it's basically like Ocean's Eleven for the high pressure world of of like student exams college entrance exams so like imagine a heist but the point of it is to like cheat your SAT so that you can get into the most prestigious school and if you think about a country where that is where education is even valued more than it is here you can understand how like high octane high octane that is and I always appreciate when you can take something that you know we've seen so many heists at this point applying it to something like student exams and making the stakes feel as big as if it were the you know robbing the vault at the MGM I think that takes a lot of a lot of skill and it just also kind of reminds me of the great high school movies of the 80s and 90s but with that like thriller engine that's really propulsive so uh it's one a lot of people have haven't heard of and it's about it's it's 2017 so it's almost 10 years old and I had it recommended to me and I was just blown away and it stuck with me I've been meaning to go back and watch it but uh with foreign films I always try to give recommendations that I think are really accessible and I mean as long as you're not opposed to reading subtitles I think this is one just about anybody can get into subtitles
Speaker 3are great because they keep me off my stupid phone uh when I really want to watch there you go they
Speaker 4make you present yeah
Speaker 3when I really want to watch something I throw my phone across the room onto like another chair so that I can actually enjoy it um number two for me is the social network uh David Fincher obviously Aaron Sorkin scream play pretty popular movie you know actually funny enough when I saw this in theaters when it was released and I've I've revisited it multiple times and I actually think it's terrific now so I'm not sure what what what I can't remember exactly what rubbed me the wrong way about it on the on the first viewing um but I think it's terrific it's incredibly watchable it's got sort of that Shawshank like just watchability like you can turn it on any scene and it's really interesting there's good tension the performances are really winning I think that's a big part of it you know Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield are so good Andrew Garfield is like I think he makes the movie um it's uh it's just a tremendous film and uh it has one of the best I think endings of of a film where you know it says what it wants to say about the character of Mark Zuckerberg just sitting there refreshing you know he's got all this money he's got all this all these accolades and stuff and he still is low self-esteem thinking about this this movie and I think it's a really good movie and I think it's a really good movie the one that got away this girl and refreshing it's just I think it's terrific though
Speaker 4interestingly enough a lot of times movies I don't sit in the theater and feel like this is a classic this is an instant classic with this movie I don't know if it was because I was an entrepreneur at that time and kind of like uh just really into that kind of stuff uh but it just clicks it just and I think a big part of it actually is not I mean of course David Fincher uh when it comes to direction he's he's a genius he's a visual genius much like Hitchcock before him and plenty of others but we had never really seen uh Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross score a film before and the score of the social network is just I mean it's the score of the decade in my opinion and I think like Aaron Sorkin you know there's something about Aaron Sorkin that can be a little corny or a little cheesy sometimes and there's something about David Fincher where he's a little bit nihilistic sometimes but you you have those two meet in the middle and it's just kind of like they really they really you know the yin and the yang they really balance each other out so uh have you seen the trailer for A Social Reckoning yet I have yeah the the kind of sequel I'm worried about it because no Fincher you know but to balance that out you got you got Jeremy Strong Jeremy Allen White Mikey Madsen hell of a cast fingers crossed uh honorable mention really quick I'm just going to mention Toy Story 3 I think it is uh one of the best animated movies I've ever seen and uh I forgot that I was going to throw that out there and just the the ending of it I'm kind of it kind of saddens me that they did four and five which I think are okay films they're they're they're cash grabby right because you just have you have a lot of money and you have a lot of arguably the greatest trilogy ever made like you can put it in the conversation with the godfather and in Indiana Jones and uh Lord of the Rings and they had the perfect ending uh and they nailed it I cried during that movie yeah how can you how can you not yeah spoiler alert but when they're when they're getting ready when they're going to that conveyor uh belt and they're getting ready to get melted to get like burned to nothing and they're all like holding hands ready to face their doom and basically they've said there's worse things than all you know at least at the end we're all together man that just that just hits like a ton of bricks and then you go on and you have Andy give away the toys and that's another tier that's another tearjerker like the last the last 10 or 15 minutes you just want to bawl your eyes out so uh my number one uh is screw it let's go Ford versus Ferrari I love Ford versus Ferrari I don't I don't know what it is but uh I love sports movies I'm wearing my vintage remember the titan shirt right now uh so a good sports movie always gets me and it just is is like this muscular throwback that is perfectly cast perfectly written perfectly edited and I think Matt Damon who's in the odyssey this week I don't know that if that's the right way to use Matt Damon he can do just about anything but uh I don't know if that's the right way to use Matt Damon I I like when Matt Damon is able to turn up the charm and be a little bit of a smart ass and be a little bit of uh uh you know you look what he's doing in oppenheimer air i don't want to say a jerk but you know definitely like a like a smart ass you know uh and sometimes even more of an everyman but uh uh one of my favorite actors and of course you got christian bale who can who can really transform into just about anything the ultimate chameleon and i just think when it comes to re-watchability ford versus ferrari you're saying the shot shank thing that thing comes on uh and i walk in the room i'm not leaving
Speaker 3so yeah yeah um interesting list very very interesting curation there uh i dig it um number one for me is hereditary um i always try to sneak in a horror film this movie dude uh i watched this movie and like it is to me one of the greatest horror films ever made it is i think tony collette should have won an oscar for it it's one of the best performances i've ever seen in any movie period it is gut-wrenching this movie is truly horrific like not in the fun horror way like they just announced this week that they're gonna make another nightmare on elm street i'm excited about that it's my favorite horror franchise of all time and i like i like all kinds of horror and a lot of the horror i like is entertaining and fun and ridiculous over-the-top slashers especially from the 80s this movie is scary but it is also incredibly deeply disturbing and unsettling and it's a big part of that is because of the direction and because of tony collette like her performance her anguish like my my wife watched this movie with me and she does not like horror she didn't like horror before we had rory and now she just really has no interest in watching it at all since we have a little boy no chance she'd ever watch this movie again now zero chance and i don't know if i don't know how much i could handle it is it's unbelievable i mean it's just just from top to bottom it is really really good like it's the best depiction of evil i have ever seen in a movie
Speaker 4oh his films are are hard to watch aria so he starts with hereditary in in 2018 which really blew my hair back and then midsummer which is like i mean almost on the same level i mean in a different way but but it's kind of been surprising that he's gone to do like bow was afraid in eddington like i just i kind of like the path he was on before even though it freaking terrified me and like cost me sleep i i i found like him very very effective when he was just doing straight like i am going to try to terrify people in the most original way possible and it's kind of he's kind of like moving away from that i'm curious what you think about that if you've seen either of those movies
Speaker 3i i haven't but i you know i appreciate any artist who is willing to step out of their lane and try new things i think mag and i were just talking about daniel radcliffe because i just recently got cast in a show called the lifespan of a fact uh opens in august let me know if you guys want tickets in chicago here um and i'm playing uh i'm actually playing a character that uh in the original broadway production that bobby cannavale played so it was daniel radcliffe bobby cannavale and cherry jones you talk about a cast uh and you know daniel radcliffe was harry potter and he could have gone and done like been in you know that sort of like fantasy or action and just sort of like stayed in that lane and instead he goes to broadway and he does it eclectically and he does it in a way that he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like um which just look up and read what equus is about um you know i mean he's really done some interest he did swiss army man like he does he's so rich right like he can do he's doing art for the sake of art which i really really appreciate as somebody who's doing art and it is no it's not my full-time job and so i'm like i saw this show and i'm like i want to do this show let's see if i can get into it and i did you know um and so uh you would be i think you'd be especially with your political background would be able to do it and i think you'd be able to do it and i think you'd be really interested in this script called the lifespan of a fact it's based off of a book um of the same name so yeah uh do do your art you know if you're christopher nolan and you want it you want your damn movie to be on imax let people bitch and moan about it uh you know what i mean like if you're if you're uh quentin tarantino and you want the best version of your film to be in 70 millimeter do it in 70 millimeter i'm not going to tell anybody what size canvas they should paint
Speaker 4on man i've heard that the the average uh or the average uh imax print for the odyssey costs eighty thousand dollars and if you read about the amount of like film negative they burn to get there anyway uh quick thought on daniel radcliffe i'm really impressed with what he's done because the only people i can really compare daniel radcliffe to are mark hamill and elijah wood yeah you know when you get put when you are luke skywalker or frodo or harry potter man that is that is tight casting that is almost impossible to shake so so what do you do with that and maybe it's because those guys kind of like you know took some lumps and paved the way yeah but but i just think daniel radcliffe he he has kept it so interesting he seems like such a such a great person and and uh uh i love the weird al movie i don't know if you've seen the weird al movie i forget but i think it's just called weird or something but but he does he's it i'm a big weird al fan so like capturing that that magic and that madness is something hard to do i just thought he was he you just root for daniel radcliffe he's so winning i don't know how else to to explain it you just you want to hang out with daniel radcliffe yeah seems like it
Speaker 3seems like a good dude and uh uh has made uh quite the career for himself so congrats to him he could have just not worked again instead he's going and doing doing theater uh which always isn't always the most glamorous all right so we're going to move on to the next question and we're going to get out of here thank you so much for joining us again make sure you join the arrowhead addict text group just text chiefs to 816-477-5421 and you'll be entered to win a chief's jersey and you'll be entered to win every giveaway we do uh for the foreseeable future so we really appreciate your support and of course you'll get really great chiefs analysis and updates from us on the text chain we'll see you guys next week as we inch ever closer to chiefs training camp for producer joanne for the blog father adam best i'm patrick allen see you next week but until then as always go chiefs another blue vine business banking story i run a small but busy marketing agency
