The hosts share a candid, humorous, and heartfelt episode filled with personal anecdotes and life updates. They recount a funny library incident involving a visible "Hickey," a touching moment about a donation rule that confused a charity officer, and the joy of a newly built home office shed that offers a dedicated workspace for their family. A major theme centers on potty training, which they describe as a turning point after being inspired by how easy it was for another child. The hosts also reveal their weekly meal planning process, where they list four dinners to streamline grocery shopping and reduce decision fatigue. The episode includes a lively segment on "hills they would die on," featuring strong opinions about brownies, texting culture, and parenting habits. There’s light-hearted discussion about sibling dynamics, with one host joking that siblings should be the only ones to "bully" you—calling it a form of healthy family growth. The hosts also share a memorable food experience at a dumpling shop, noting the delicious chocolate mochi and the bizarre reaction of a friend to a commercial. Throughout, they promote two sponsors: Shopify, which they use for their business and recommend for ease and customization, and Cash App, which offers a child-friendly managed account to teach financial habits. The tone is warm, relatable, and full of humor, blending personal struggles with practical life tips.
- Your sibling should bully you. - My sisters are very mean to me, and it's for my benefit. - Even Shaq, keep your humble. - Amz on Alexa, yeah, it's not allowed anywhere near a home. - That thing's recording you all the time. - We have that in our house, we have a Google Home mini. - So I'm not gonna ever come over again. - Me to bring dating back. - Oh, we should have the boy cousin's practice dating with their cousin. - No, Abigail. - That's the perfect person to not ask on a date. - We're gonna start crazy rumors. - Alexa, the US has never been to the moon. - That's-- - Alexa, that's a conspiracy. - That's a conspiracy. - That's a different. (laughs) (upbeat music) - Welcome back to Always Here, where your host Abby Howard and Abby Howard. - How you do it? - We are really just having a great day today. - Our energies are high. - Everyone looks great. Everyone's feeling great. - Are you kidding with the compliments? And I've live in on a prayer over here. - You're really amazing, feeling it. - I'm feeling it. - Not live on a prayer, that's not the right term. But, you know what I mean? - Yeah, totally. - It works. - Well, we share the hope in the heart and humor. So, let's share our hopes and our hearts in our life updates. - Well, a little update is that you still have your Hickey. - A weekly. - You see it? - I noticed it. - It's the story time of the library. - Let me tell you something. This has been my hard. - That's your hard? - I've been a hermit. I can't show my face online. I'm not gonna show the internet my Hickey. See it? - I'm gonna show the Patreon. - Patreon. YouTube. - Spotify. - Apple luck. (laughs) - That's when I noticed it at the story time. I was like, you're at a library with a Hickey. - This is a good place to notice that. (laughs) - Yeah, just out to play, you know, with all the children's. - Yeah. - Hickey. - Yeah, it's fading, thankfully. Kill Peel's really bad about it. - Rightly so. - Yeah, I mean. - I said don't ever play me like that again. - It would be funny if it lasted like, at most. - An hour, a day? - No. - No, okay, maybe an hour? - An hour. - It lasts a long time. - Yeah, I'm like, I can't FaceTime my parents because I'm like, stop. - You know what I mean? I can't go on Instagram stories. I can't go to the library. Without people looking at me like, oh, that's crazy. - I thought it really quickly. (laughs) - So you know, you're forgetting out there. - Even when you're Hickey. - I know, just so tacky. - I know that guy at the library thought I was older than I was, as you were leaving the guy in the tent or the old man. - The guy in the tent. - We went through this whole thing. I was gonna make a donation. - And then he clocked your wrong age and he said, no. - No, he was like, I was giving all my information. He gets my birthday and he goes, oh, so you're not 28 or older. What an odd age. - You had to be 28 to donate. - To donate with how they donate because their charity is, they try to figure out their budget and the way they do it, it's a dollar a day until you like, stop it. But so then it's really hard for them to figure, I guess, people under 28. So he's like, you can go online and donate. - Oh, wow. - Is that a weird pause? - I've never heard of such a thing. - And then he's like, he felt kind of bad. Oh, I thought since you have, and he's like, pointed to my kids. And I was like, no, it's okay. (laughs) - Trust me. - Way worse things have been so bad. - Well, you're 27, right? - Yeah, I'm 27. - Okay, okay. But I was like, you still don't want my dollar a day. - Right. Well, so I gotta go now to save the children. - Well, that's sweet, you're still gonna do it. - Yeah, that's sweet. - Keep me accountable, God. - Keep me accountable. But I was like, I got through all that. And he's like, ah, you're not over 28. - Oh, that's it. - Are you gonna give it a lie? - I'll just change it on the form. - I was like, shh, no, I'm confused. - That's really weird. - Yeah, it was weird. - Yeah. - He felt bad. - It's okay. - Can you tell me what time it is? (laughs) - Only we think this is fun. (laughs) - Oh, let's see. - Whoa, you gotta hit me. - I gotta hit you. You gotta watch like that. - You're like, it's charging right now. And I was like, oh, I should've just. - It looks like it's still on. - It does. - I think I could have some people fooled. (laughs) - I'm just gonna say anything. - That was like, I have to say something. - That's not great. - So, yeah, you just keep us on track for an episode. - Yeah, I'll let you know in four o'clock. - If you're not watching this, Abby has the craziest watch tan line. And so, she did draw four o'clock on her watch. (laughs) So, she can watch that one time. - It really translates over camera. - Oh, good. - Crazy. You guys, that's what's crazy about that. It's my skin tone. - My real God-given skin tone. - Really? I've never looked at you and thought that you were so fair. - Well, I mean. - It's always more jarring when you're. - I have worn this for that watch for a long time. - Over three years. - Yeah. - So, it hasn't seen the light of day for a long time. - Perfect. - The rest of our bodies are gonna be wrinkled and then all of our watches are just, we're gonna have a great skin. - It actually makes my wrist skinnier. - Where my watch is. - Why? - Don't know, but it indents. - Oh, interesting. - Do you kinda see that? - Yeah, actually. I mean, we're gonna get too tight. - Remember this happened in my grandpa. - Oh, maybe you're just, it's a phenomena. - That is a thing with older people. - It's having me already. Only 27. I can't even donate to save the children. But you got the watch indents. - You got the watch indents. You have that, have it in my grandpa. - Weird. - I mean, I sleep in it too. - Oh, yeah, you should take that. - That's interesting. - I wanna wear it. - I just sleep in the wake up. - I'm never gonna take it off. - I'm gonna wear it the rest of my life. - Well, Garmin picked a good. - I know. - A good ambassador. - I know, it's been a minute. We can renew. - Come on, Garmin, come on, Garmin. - Well, do you have a hope to share? - I have a hope to share. Oh, yeah. I would only say this on this platform, like you said. - Really? - Because my hard last time was about my. - Your BMs. - Yeah. - First solid one in a long time. (clapping) - Yesterday. - I'm clapping for that. - We've returned this morning, unfortunately, but I'm like thinking it's just a fluke and we're like, okay. - Yeah, we're gonna get over the hill. You know what? It's always two steps forward, one step back. - Right, right. And then we'll get to a third step. - Yes. - Forward, and it'll be great. - Yeah. - Yeah, I'm like, we have a returning leave. - Yeah, it's returning leave. - That was really weird on me. It was really weird on me. - That's, I mean, that's big. - It is big. - It is. - And with urgency. - I've been actually dehydrated for about two months. - Right. - Yeah. Do you feel better? - I think so. - Good. - My stomach doesn't hurt. Like, it wasn't like, that was just having like, I had a stomach ache for like two months straight. Like, it was off and on, but like every day. - Right, of course. - I was just on my heels. - You see, I'm wondering if this sugar is helping. I don't know why, but. - Cheers. - Maybe. - Did you say "giz"? - Cheers. (laughing) - Cheers. - Cheers. - Cheers. (laughing) - Do you need to do here when I hear? - No, I'm surprised you're so surprised at this. - The seat, clip it, and then we're gonna post it. - This is the third day. - The seventh and ninth day. - The seventh day. (laughing) - Caleb didn't want Abby saying the giz clip, but it was fine for the full episode. - Yeah, I think there's a difference. I was like, well, maybe. I saw a comment on, it was, I think it was the page. No, it probably wasn't the patron, because it was an ad. Someone commented on YouTube and was like, I wanna know why Abigail was laughing so hard, reading the better help. - Oh, you know why? - Was it bush? When she said bush, or was it something? (laughing) - I was just trying to help her to get her off camera. - We're so immature. I don't know if it was bush, or I started laughing during her ad reason one time, because we had a bunch of them, and I realized I looked in the monitor, and we kept going. (laughing) This is our hands, it looks so stupid. And I looked over and was like, oh my God. We got all of our sponsors. (laughing) - They're like, stop it with their rainbows. (laughing) - I love coming out of the lab. - And you know, ads. (laughing) And I just couldn't stop laughing about it. - So I don't know if it was bush, or handles. - Yeah, I mean, if you actually say bush, and you don't mean too. - That's a bad old one. - That's a funny one. - Oh my God, this is so funny today. - Oh my God. - Okay, what's your name? - My hope is that Caleb has been working on our shed. Oh my gosh, it's so exciting. So we have in our backyard, it's off of our bedroom sliding door. A shed that's actually a bigger square footage than our bedroom. (laughing) It's really big. It's a massive shed. But the people who lived in the house before didn't finish it. And so it had just like insulation hanging out of the ceiling, and a couple dry wall boards here and there. And Caleb has gone in, he's really been a good job. - And always full time. - Right, yeah, and all of his free time. - It's got to be so hot. - It does have an AC unit. - Oh, okay, that's right. - But it is hot 'cause it wasn't insulated. So it was just basically like blowing nothing. But now it feels way better in there. - And it's gonna become our little home office. - That's so nice. - And he's got built in storage up top. So I'm really excited. 'Cause now I do have some march in the day. We have a babysitter come a couple times a week and the afternoon during naps. So I would like to go to the office. - Yeah, let me go to the office, my bedroom 10 feet away. You know what I mean? It's just like it's a little weird. So it's nice to have a little separate of a space where I can go out and focus. - And stuff like that. - Yeah, it really will be at home. - Exactly. So I'm excited. - I'm super excited about it. - Are you gonna document it? And so we can see the process. - Well, I told Caleb too. 'Cause he's like, should I make some more content? I'm like, yes. - Oh, and so, I saw the video you posted today. - Thank you. - You liked that one? - It's so good. Like, it's all looking good. - Thanks. I didn't know what to do. - I don't know what to do. - Oh, no, no, no, no. I was doing. - I checked that performance. - Over here. - That's my hope. - That's my hope. - Yeah, that's my hope. - That's exciting. - Yeah, we had a big weekend. We, it's probably my heart, too. But Vivian had her first fever. But it was nothing.
- Nothing, she was fine. It's just a couple days of bad fever. And then during that I was like, you know what, my child is ill. So this is the perfect time to potty train. My brain would go there too though. It's like, we have to be home. - There were so many dams I got from women that are like, why do this is like a universal mom experience. It's like, well, I'm locked in the house, so might as well just do the hard things I didn't want to do when I had free time. And so, you know, you just kind of like, tack on the hard things. And it was good. I think potty train's been going good. It'll be an ongoing process. But overall I think she did so well in time. - Feel like you guys talked a lot about potty training with CJ for so long that I thought it was happening before. - Yeah, thought he was potty train. - I mean, he's been going on the, like, here and there, but I personally just didn't want to commit. And then when we were in Tahoe and I saw how easy it was with Griffin, I was like, I just didn't have to rip the bandaid. That seems great. - Mm. - Yeah, I felt inspired. - You're gonna be going to the bathroom on toilet for a long time now, I know. But in my head I couldn't justify. I'm like, what do you mean when you're out in public? It's like, take your kid to the bathroom. You know, that felt like more of an inconvenience. And then when I saw it, I was like, no, it's amazing. - Yeah. - Yes, it's pros and cons. - Sure, sure, sure, sure. But so do diapers. - I think boys are easy as far as, like, there's an emergency. - Yeah, it's easier to make arrangements. - Totally. I also got panicked one time. I was at a public bathroom. And I was like, CJ, let's go try to use the bathroom 'cause he asked. So I was like, sure. And I looked at that toilet and I looked at him. I said, just, you're going in your diaper. Sorry, buddy. I didn't understand how that works in the public bathroom. - Oh, yeah. - 'Cause the toilet was massive. - Oh yeah. - They go wide. - I didn't want to touch it at all. - Aw, he's been going stand up. - What a man. - Oh, what does he do? - Two. Wait, I just thought about that right now. - That's right. (laughing) - He was standing up. That's how he really reaches. I mean, this is getting too far, but yeah, that's great. - I don't know, I guess he's just-- - Oh, yeah, you say that, I'm like, oh yeah. - I mean, that's impressive. - I mean, if he has to remember, do I do have to lift him? - Right, of course. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - That's hilarious. I love that. That just is like someone brain for him. I love it. I love it. - Yeah, he was like, yeah, that's funny. I didn't even think about that. (laughing) - Yeah, big weekend for you. - Yeah, I was just sobbed nursing. I'm like, maybe that's what's going on. - Maybe that's what's going on. - That's where it is. (laughing) - I literally feel like that. (laughing) Three days ago, I just decided, you know, she's been, she was just kind of protesting. So I'm like, why am I holding on? You're free, too. - You're free, too. - So I'm just going through the rest of it. I haven't touched any of my freezer staff, so we'll use that until it's out. And then we'll be done with the breast milk. - She's getting older, so. - Yeah, she's eight and a half months, she's starting, she's starting to eat a lot of solids, so I feel like we're at a good spot. - You crushed that thing? - Thank you to Shopify for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. Starting something new isn't just hard, it's terrifying. I actually used Shopify for five years with my clothing business, and having a business that we started from scratch to grow was really, really cool and really fun, and Shopify was so user-friendly. The learning curve on it was really low, and I just loved how customizable it was. - Seriously, I feel like with Shopify, it's one of those where the competitors can't even compete. - They don't. - They really didn't. I'm not even gonna name other ones because they really have set the standard in this area. Their templates are amazing, they're super user-friendly. Oh no. - How do we, you're never gonna guess. - What's it gonna be? - We talked about this before. - I had to wait four hours. - I got a dinti-buck with this. - Oh, the agony. - Oh. - This is the grumbling tummy. - It was so hungry. And this was my only option for nourishment. (laughs) - Did you get a snack before dinner? - Yeah, I ate really weird that whole day and I also think that's why I had a solid poo. - Oh, perfect. - I ate terrible that whole day. Like I'm not even kidding. I just ate- - No veggies, no greens, no fruit, nothing. - Yeah, they get- - A lot of puppy chow, chips, a bagel, waffle. Like I mean, I just ate like all day long. So I was like, I'm fine to like, and I don't, I'm not really a snacker, right? So it was just, I felt super weird. - Yeah. - So I was like, yeah, I can wait until 10 o'clock to eat dinner. - Worse, the rules are out the door today. - No, we got there at four. - Yeah. - It's been open for a couple months at least. And it was just, I mean, we went on a Saturday. What are we gonna do for- - People were like, well, you need to, well, if you don't want to wait, you need to go out Tuesday at 10.30. - Am. (laughing) - Like, just when I want a bunch of dumplings. - You're right, exactly. - What's some chili oil? - You went some chocolate mochi dumplings. - 10 a.m, of course. So, and apparently it's like pretty difficult to make reservations, but there's a hack to it. - Well, it takes, you have to do it two weeks out 'cause Caleb was gonna do it. - Two weeks out. He didn't get it. - I don't know if he tried that hard, but. - I think he comes out at midnight. - Yeah, that's what I heard. - So, I'm gonna try to do that again because it was amazing. It was worth the wait. - Yeah, it was worth the wait. - Oh my gosh, no, it's great news. - It was worth the wait for like my first time, I had been one other time, but like, it was worth the wait for like that experience at specific time. We didn't, like Matt was with the kids. Like, if obviously we had the kids, I probably wouldn't be taking them to the end of time for like, anyway. - Right. - So, like, just the circumstance, I was like, if we're gonna do it, it would be now. - Yeah. - And so, it was fun. It's at a mall, so you can just go shopping. - It's so fun. - But honestly, you got really tired of walking around so then we just sat for like, - To get a pretzel or something. - Yeah. Food is amazing. - Okay, well, what was the best thing? - Would you eat the chocolate? - Those things should not taste that good. - Really? - A dumpling with chocolate. It's so good, you have to get this sea salt, like, what is it, whipped cream? Like, oh, it's unbelievably good. It should not be that good. It is actually so good. I saw a video pop up after that because I, like, your phone literally know everything about you. - Absolutely. - It was like, when you go to a din ty phone for the first time and you're the most dramatic person in the world, and she's eating and she's like, oh my, and she starts crying. And I was like, I feel that though. Like, Angel starts singing and it's amazing. - Wow. - No, obviously, the best things are like, the cucumber salad, the green beans are actually really good. But I like their, shallong bow, I think that's not good. - Okay, thanks, yeah. We got everything though, the sesame noodles, I feel like are underrated, they were really good. Someone, I think it was our friend Maddie, she got the beef and, it was a beef dish that looked insane. - Oh, the black pepper beef. - That was it, I wanna get that. I didn't get it that time. - I looked so good. - It's really stressful to order there. You get a paper and you have to just go and fill it out. And I was like, - I beef lost. - Especially without, like, I'd be like, what do I lie? - No, no, I had to do a Google. - Yeah, kind of got to go in with the plan, maybe. - Going with the plan. - Sure, go on the plan. We also got that mango ice cream. - Yeah, the shaved ice. - So good, too. - I don't like, that's certainly love mango. - War shaved ice. - Yeah. - It's like whatever. - It was really good. - Oh. - Yeah, they have like a bunch of, the wantons, the shrimp and pork wantons are so good. Oh, that was just really good. You have to, like, a little spicy. I feel like some of the things, a lot of things have, like, a little spice, but nothing crazy. - Okay, it was really good. - Oh my gosh, I can't wait to go. It was just for your greenie trip. - Yes. - This was a bucket list. - It was a bucket list. - You knocked it off. - You're crushing that list. - Crushing that list. - Yeah, it was restful. - It was good. Yeah, I mean, not exactly restful. We stayed up till 3am. - Like, no, I was like, I'm crazy. - Y'all are nuts. - That's not grainy-like. - Somebody's sleepover is way late. You're like, let's just live it up. - Live it up. - Well, I have this freedom. - Love it. - Well, we thought it'd be fun to, you're talking about what you ate for dinner. If Abby would share her meal planning process, did you put, did you do this? - Well, I didn't. I'm just gonna riff it. - Okay, riff is what I do. We did talk about this. - We did talk about this and always hungry maybe last episode of the episode before that we wanna know your meal planning process. So please enlighten the people. - It's not crazy at all. - Good. - I don't wanna be crazy. - I will not do it. - I'm gonna preface this in my saying. There's probably an app for this that makes this so much better in here. - No, no. - But I've literally done this for years, you guys. - Actually, I have stamps for this. I just use it in my notes, I have my phone. - Okay. - Look, it's pinned and it's this week's recipes. Look how many I have to scroll down to find. Oh, what do you mean? - Wait, what do you mean? - So, this is all of this week's recipes? - No, no, no, that's like-- - She's been adding the matter to the work of them. - Oh, I've added to it every week. So what does each bullet point say? - Okay. - Just to title of the recipe? - Yeah. - To title the recipe with the sides I'm gonna have with it. - Oh. - So, okay, so here's what I do. This is nothing crazy. But it has really helped me like be strategic about grocery ordering, I feel like for sure. - And also, I don't want, I'm the type of person. Like, you kind of like the freestyle in the kitchen. I want this to be the least creative experience of my life. Like, I wanted to just be like, follow the directions, turn on music, and then just get it done. And I enjoy it, I enjoy it like it being like that. Gotcha.
So what I do is I, what I'm about to like order groceries, I'll think of four dinners. I have to have at least four dinners in mind that I'm shopping for when I order groceries. Why do you pick four? Because usually one night out of the week we're not eating at home. So then do you do like your weekends and your group when you have people over for dinners as a separate thing? No. Because oh, I used to. I used to just shop for that that day. But now I've been able to like put it in here too because I'm like, okay, this one of these will fall on a Sunday. Okay. And then I'll just get extra. Okay. We have family dinner on Sunday so I have to buy more for that. But I honestly just make whatever I was going to make but just get a double portion. Okay. So then, so I think of four dinners I want to have and it's really nice because it's all in the same note. The reason I keep these all is if I can go back and I'm like, I don't even know what I want. I like go back and I'll look, oh shrimp tortellini, that was pretty good. I haven't made that in a while. Go back down and then I add that for this week. It's kind of weird. But so I have four dinners and then I think four is just better because sometimes if you do all seven, something's going to go bad. I feel like it gets. At the end of the week. Yeah. Left overs, sometimes. And we left overs and so how many portions do normally cook a night? Two, four? What do you mean? Like how many servings do you cook a night for dinner? It's probably like four to six. Okay. Kind of just depending on what it is. But then I'll put it what it is and then I put the sides too because otherwise I feel like I get confused. I'm like, what do I have for the sides? But they're all really simple. Like this makes it really easy for me. So then like tonight I'm literally like, okay, I stake mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. So then I can just go. And also I don't necessarily have to do it in that order. I'm like, oh, tonight, like I didn't thought that. So I'll just have this one tonight. But I'll remember to thought the next day. So I come up with those four. And then those are the first things I place in my grocery order for the week. So then I have that all done. And then I order things for breakfast and then snacks and then randoms. I just add to my Walmart delivery throughout the week. So we ran out of dish soap. I'll just add it to my cart and then I just will once I check out, it'll all go through. But sometimes that does bite me in the button. Random things just show up. And I'm like, oh, I already got that. But yeah, that just makes it so I don't feel like I have to go the grocery store every day. And I'm not also just like having to make another decision at the end of the day when everyone's already hungry. Yeah, we're like trying to fare what to do. So does your list have the length to the recipes? Um, yeah. So it's like spinach, tortellini, linked to the recipe. Yes. Okay. And so like this one has like the, I actually tried one from our Patreon this past week. Which one? It was quick and healthy sloppy joes. Yeah. And I love sloppy joe. That doesn't like him. So I like, I prepped it and I was like, I'm thinking and we're going to have sloppy joes. And he's like, that's fine. Like he'll eat them. Right. And he ate too. He like loved it. Yeah. And so then I can just tap on that link and then go to it fun. But then some of them don't require a link. I'm like, okay, we're grilling steak tonight. Like I just have to stay. You know, I'm there. Yes. Yeah. Totally. Yeah. Okay. That's helpful. I actually love the idea of a running list of all your stuff. Because then yeah, if you're feeling, I don't know, like you're good, sometimes I get repetitive with my meals. Or yeah. And I'm like, oh, we did just have that two weeks ago. You can go back and look. But then also I feel like sometimes if I like I'm using something for my freezer, I like forget about it. But then I'm like, oh, I forgot that we have that in the freezer. I'm gonna make that and do that. What day of the week do you buy groceries? Not always the same. But I feel like usually it falls on like the beginning of the week. Okay. And like it's Sunday or Monday. Usually Monday. Yeah. But sometimes I am bad. And I just like order like, I'll place a random order throughout the week to kind of. And then if I do that, I still have to make sure like how many dinners do I have left. I always have to have four on deck. I do not know why. Yeah. That's how we do it. I think I just need to start because kill. I mean, I feel like I'm at a point now where I'm like, I want to buy people over again for dinners and stuff. There was a season this past season where I was like, no, I can't even think about feeding our family. Yeah. And but now I'm like, I want to buy people over again. But sometimes I get stuck where I'm like, I don't have enough food. So I have to go get separate meals to like make for a crowd. That was my other thing. You I see what you mean. Yeah. It's always enough for us to have us. And then at least another meal like for lunch the next day. Usually we're eating it for two days. And that means it's enough for us and another family. Oh, okay. So you're cooking with the idea of having leftovers. Yes. And every day I, yeah, every day I cook four leftovers. So we eat it for lunch. And if you don't have leftovers, then I literally just eat out. Yeah. Because I'm like, I don't cook that. We're not going to do lunch. Yeah. Or if we have factor or something. Yeah, for sure. But that way I can always have people over too. Because then that's why I'm like, why don't you just stay? Because I already have all the food for every day. But nothing goes to waste. Because if not, we'll just eat it for lunch the next day. That makes sense. Yes. Okay. That's a really good tip. Thank you guys. That's a lot of breaking. No, but I mean, I like the running list too of like inspiration. It feels so satisfying to check it off for some reason. I'm like, think. So like right now, I only have two existing that I can do. So I'll probably have to play the grocery order. But I also really do believe in ordering your groceries, especially as like a mom with littles. Because taking my kids to the grocery store is, I don't understand how people do it. Yeah. I've been loving. We always end up with marshmallows, chocolate chips, candy, gum. Friends on the edge. Right now, I like taking braille because it's an outing. Totally. And she can't pick anything totally. I feel like with one, I loved it like until I can't even imagine. Yeah. Well, it's just like put the little things, like I had to go to UPS to drop something off. And I was like, I'm loading the loading. I don't want to take the kids out of two car seats just to run in for one second. No, I can't leave them in here. But when I had just CJ, I was like, oh, when outing. Yeah. So I feel especially when they can both walk around. Like I'm like, I'm gonna lose one of y'all. Totally totally. I took them to Costco last week. And I actually the whole time I was like, I am so proud of you. You stayed in the cart the whole day. They fell off the whole cart. Yeah, totally. But I'm like, don't get out. We'll put all the groceries in the bottom. They probably loved it. They had a lot of samples. And I literally, and I was so quick, I had a list. I was like, we are not gilly dallying. And it's also harder for them to be like, I want to get that like at Costco. It's like on these huge pallets. Yeah. But Costco doesn't do, they do do delivery. But they charge way more. And I'm like, I don't want to pay that. I know. And some and not a lot is on there. Like I feel like I don't, I also started just by my meat from Costco. The meat from Sam's is really good. I feel like buying it in bulk does make a lot of sense. Meat and fruit are like the main things. I'm like, that makes so much sense. I knew it was an issue with CJ. I was like, I need to probably shake some things up. I said, what are your favorite places? He said the gym in Sam's glove. You know what? We need to go hang out with your friends. Let's do the library. We need to go hang out with you. Yeah. We need to go hang out with people. Oh, that was sweet. It's really cute. Yeah. We go to Sam's glove, Mama. How would we go? How would we go here? I think the gym is braille's favorite place. She like falls into the arms of the child. So this point, I'm like, yeah, I'm happy about that. Totally. You're like, go play and have some other children. That's good. Yeah. That's right. Oh, I was going to say delivery is so nice because I don't think it like they charge at least on Walmart or the groceries cost in the store. You just tip your instead of Instacart where they used to jack up the price of the grocery. Yeah. All these people didn't do that. All the upside prices. Yeah. No, I think I'm pretty sure that that's the same price. And then if you get the annual thing, then you don't have to pay for delivery every time. And they have discounts on that even. You just have to tip your driver. And I think there's like a, no, I think they cover the service fee too if you get the membership. Oh, that's nice. So you just have to spend $25, which I'm like groceries. Yeah. One item is $25. Yeah. Totally. So yeah, then I don't get a bunch of random stuff. Now a bunch of random stuff does end up in my pantry that I can't quite explain. But don't look in there. Don't look in there. I know. I've been really into drive up lately. Oh, yeah. That's great. That's crazy. That is crazy. Well, you would die on that hill. I was down. Actually, one of the, I started getting into territory that I was like, oh, I was going to talk about this later when we were talking about our hills. But I went down that hill. You would die on that hill. Get your groceries delivered. Well, that brings us to our next segment. What is Segway? What is Segway? What is Segway? This was a Ask Abbey's question last episode or the episode before. We thought it was really fun. And we didn't really, it was hard to think on the spot. So we're like, let's give us some more time to think on what the hills that we would die on are. And we thought it'd be a fun full segment for you guys. So that's what we're doing today. The hills that we would die on. And we asked you guys first what are some of the hills that you guys would die on? I'm excited to read these. Do we explain what that means? Do you think people got in? I want to hear your definition. Okay. It's like strong opinions on dumb things. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. That's good. Thank you. That's really good. An unnecessary, strong opinion. Have you ever tried to describe a board game? Like the rules of a game? I feel so dumb. I did that last, I did that granny weekend. I was like, you know, so you're trying to guess. No, but you can't. And then I was like, this is the same. I'm the same way with definitions. And I'm like, I just, like, as my kids ask me what things mean, I'm like, I know, like, let's, let me change that one. Yeah. You did a great job with that one. Thank you. I appreciate that. Yeah. The board game thing, I'm just saying about that. No, when people start to describe it, I'm like, let's just play it. Yes, me too. Just explain it to me all the time. Honestly, when Blake is ever explaining anything like a game I'm like you
- You were trying to explain a card game to everyone and no one wanted to play. First up, no one wanted to play. - Was I there? - Yes. - Did I want to play? - No. - Oh, dang. - Because it was a new game. You were exhausted. - I don't like playing games, they didn't like it. 'Cause it was too many rules. - Yeah. - And like, some guys, please. And you used to explain to me, I'm like, the more you talk, the more they don't want to play. (laughs) - They're talking about you so much, but. - Oh my gosh, that's funny. I used to get on tape when I'd be like, talk more in like settings, and then he does, and I'm like, you're talking. - You're talking too much. (laughs) - That's so funny. - Just say what you want. - That's the question. - You're not supposed to stop after I go to the store. (laughs) - Is it real? - Listen, so I'm like, I can- - That's so funny. The social coaching is a real thing. - No, I know that. - What did I do this time? (laughs) - He was like, do I do this to you? And I'm like, no, but I mean, perfect. - That's it. - That's bad, I don't think that. - But, you know, if you needed any tips, I have some. - I have some. - People don't like that. - Do you want a tip? - Usually, do you want some feedback? (laughs) That was a little great. - That one. - It's nice to do it in the car. - Yeah, I'm like, dad jokes are funnier when they're filtered. - Usually. (laughs) - Let's just like try to frame it as a poop sandwich. - Yeah, literally. (laughs) - Thank you to cash out for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. - Matt was giving the kids a bath the other night. - I just hear him say, "Hey, say after me, don't spend more money than you make." (laughs) - It's like, okay, Dave Ramsey, that's great. - My dad was really big on saving. I mean, kind of the same thing. Save more than you spend, do you know what we say that? So you're healed. So you're good. I do want to start it yourself. - Yeah, Cambria. Cambria says, "Don't sag your pants." Hate when men do that. I honestly, I respect it because I don't know how you make it work. - What if you peel? - I don't, I'm not appealed and I don't like it, but I respect the commitment. - Oh, the high schoolers now, I'm even girls like we're really low, low pants. - I wouldn't say they're sagging. - Well, and actually sometimes they are very low. - Do you guys remember my pants on the ground, pants on the ground? - Yeah. - Looking like a fool. - That was a rule in our high school, you could not sag your pants. - Really? - Understandably, you shouldn't be showing your underwear. - Well, some people show their whole butts. That was like a thing in our high school. It was like full butt out and then you hold your pants in the front. And I was like honestly, I just respect the commitment to that. - You're telling me people walk around with crack? - No, I mean, they have the underwear on. Men, not women. Men. - Full butts. - Full butts out, though. Yeah, yeah, yeah. - That was a rule, yes. - Like boxers. - Yes. - Yeah, yeah, that happened for sure. - Yeah, for sure, yeah. - And you have to hold them in the front. - Right, yeah, yeah. I respect the commitment to the bit. But no, I also agree, don't say that. - Free your hands. - Yeah, free your hands. - Hands-free pants, they make 'em. - Woo-hoo! (laughing) - Celia said that was a mom joke. - That was a mom joke, but I laughed. - Thank you. - Not out of pity, out of laughter. - Thank you. - Celia said it properly fueling my body instead of trying to shrink it. - Yes. - Yeah. - You're always fun. - You're around people that love, you're in good company. - You're in good company, Celia. (laughing) - Um, this, what's that name? - A libido. - Says success is not about money. - I don't know if that's how you say it. - Did you just say libido? - That's why I started laughing. - Okay. - Yes, that's a good one. - Melissa said always put your shopping cart back, and that's true. I feel sick. - That does bother me. - I get guilty if I even think, consider not putting it back. - I'm like, I just must. - My case is so tempting. - I know. - I don't wanna get far from my car. - That's good though. - That's why I was parked near them. - Yes, same. - That's a hack. - Know what I also hate though, is in parking lots, if someone leaves, letters they're drink, but specifically if it's sitting upright, like they literally took the time to set it down. - Yeah, they let it settle up nicely. - That intentional lettering is even more sick, sick and disgusting. - It's lawlessness. - I see it sitting up, I'm like, kick it over. - Panarchy. (laughs) - Kick it over. - This one is by. - Sorry, Abby. - Son of a land. - Son of a land, dot E. Apple Maps is better than Google Maps period. - Period. - Period. - Don't even need to say a word. - It's just, you don't ever send me a Google link. - I'm not downloading the app. - I'm not downloading it. Lillian said, "Matcha is not good. "No matter how much extras you put with it, "it's just gross, guys." - Thank you, Lilian. I agree. - This room is so wet. - There's no way I'd be like smatcha. - I mean, I've never even tried it. - I'm just like grass. - If you tell me it has tea, anything to do with that, I'm like-- - I like tea. - Oh, I don't. - I don't like matcha. - Or matcha-- - I like grass. - Matcha and chai are not the same thing. - Ooh, you still have nothing. - No, I can't just get-- - The chai in the sugar and matcha is grass. - Well, there's chai. - You know chai means tea. - Oh, there is. - I just thought it was like-- - It's like a bad blend. - No, you're kidding me, right? - Chai tea, I guess I thought it was tea. But every time I-- - Chai, the word chai is tea. - People want you to say chai tea, 'cause you're saying-- - 'Cause chai means tea. - But it is a type of tea, so I feel like that's why people-- - It's news to me. - Thank you. - I learned from Love Island. - You can't see chai. - I watched my first episode of Love Island this past weekend. - Yeah. - That was my heart. (laughing) - It's pretty deep, pretty deep. - Oh my God. - It felt really relevant though when I was able to tell Adi that I knew people's names and I like-- - I knew the drama. - She's it. - But-- - She got a good episode to watch. - Okay. - She just watched the most recent-- - That was a good episode? She didn't like it. - No, no, no. It was like a good where she kind of can understand-- - Oh, it's been a lot of her happened. - I wish the challenges were actual challenges. That was the thing I was like excited about. - Yeah, that was a stupid challenge. - I was so confused. - Yeah, they don't have real challenges. - Working on the table. - It's just pick who you want to make out with. - And make you out with someone that's not here. - Pick someone to put them in the slime. Kiss someone back there. - It felt like the Patriarch each. (laughing) - I thought I was coming back to that. - Yeah, I knew I was coming back to that. (laughing) - Don't give me started. - No, I was entertained the whole time. I will say that, but I will not be tuning in again. - Perfect. - For a while. Unless I'm with my friends, I'll watch it with my friends. - Yeah, I'll watch anything with my friends. - Okay, no, I won't. (laughing) - Okay. - Mia says, watching 10 kids is easier than one. - Okay, that's probably-- - I was gonna say two is easier than one. - I was gonna say probably because you check out a little bit with 10. You're like, they're entertained. (laughing) - Let me know if something goes wrong. - Let me know if fire happens, guys. - 10 is an extreme jump. - Yeah, what? - Nine, not a huge team. - Not a huge team than one, but 10. - I think 10 might be a little bit harder than one. (laughing) - I think two is easier than one. - I think that. - Yes, I would agree. Okay, Alyssa, the US has never been to the moon. - Alyssa, that's a conspiracy. (laughing) - I have heard that conspiracy, though. - Yeah, well, I've heard about it. Intentionally, Elle says, "All brownies should be slightly underbaked." Adi, you're the brownie. - I don't agree. - I don't agree. - I actually like a fully cooked brownie. - I do, I could fully cook. Just get a fully cooked, like, fudgey brownie. - You're good. - That's really true. - I don't like an undercooked brownie. - No. - No, cook it. - Cook it. - Mm-hmm. - I like brownie batter. - Same. - But if I'm cooking it, I wouldn't-- - Yeah, I wouldn't. - Adi used to have brownie batter in her dorm fridge. - Just eat. - Just eat. - The batter. - That's my hill. That's my hill, my hill I would die of. I will eat. (laughing) - Rawdo. - Rawdo. - Would the spoon, or did you dip stuff in it? - No, with the spoon. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have some things like that with the spoons, I love that. I keep the whole box, not in one sitting, but like, just put it in the fridge after I mix it all together. - Is that stable? - Is that stable? - Really not. - Okay, the egg is, that's kind of gross, 'cause the egg whites just kind of have floating in there. - Yeah, you put the egg in, too. - Oh, yeah, yeah. - Shoot, I knew it. - You make it. - You make it. (laughing) - That's not easy to just take that out. - It's a microwave that, yeah. - I didn't think about that. - Yeah, college is such a fun, unique time.
I would say brownies from scratch. I love making the half-baked Harvest Crinkle Top Brownies. That's actually gonna be my recipe later. So just be aware, I'm gonna repeat myself. But when you make them from scratch, it really, it's like I didn't wanna know how much, it's literally like two full sticks of butter melted with a full bag with chocolate chips and then full cup of sugar and you're just like looking at it. - That's like making cookies though. - It's so much better. - Our cookie recipe has two sticks of butter. Yeah, but I just see in my mind, I'm like, oh, it takes me a while to eat 12 cookies. - Oh, you can eat brownies. - But I can pound a half-baked brownies. - Oh, but I mean-- - You can eat brownies so fast. - Yeah, it's, but it's worth it. Okay, sorry. - It's worth it. Kendall says, "ment and chocolate don't go together." - Sorry, Kendall, you're wrong. Try to tell her husband's that. (laughing) Try to tell my kids that. - Love mint ice cream. Elias, Pantin, I didn't say that right, but everyone looks better with their natural hair color. - No, I'm about to get my hair colored on Friday. I probably like better with my natural hair color, but I'm just not ready to commit. - I kind of agree, but it's not something I'd die on. - Yeah. - I think that would be. - I think ourself's natural hair color for me. - I think you're natural hair color, but like enhanced a little, you know? - Oh, yeah. - Oh, yeah, I'm chins. - Yeah, so put some dimension. Kenzie says, "Waking up before kids is not always best for mom's mental health." - Sure. - I don't wake up before my kids, so. - I personally disagree. - You think you can make it-- - If I make it or you're going to wake up before Braille and drink my coffee. - Yeah, you need to call it. - You need to call it. - If your kids waking up before kids-- - Yeah, we got a six-tony, sorry. (laughing) - That kids are already-- - She woke up it. I had to wake her up at 7.45 today to go out to Dr. Sprayway. - That's a big thing. - She's also sick, so there was a lot of trouble. - She also took a two and a half hour nap and I had to wake her up, so. - She's sick. - Yeah. - She's getting asleep. - She has to get her seat beat. - She needs that. - I'd rather have a, Kenzie said, I'd rather have a whole convo of voice memos back and forth than a phone call. - That is-- - No. - That's a strong opinion. - I feel like a lot of people will tell you that. - No, voice memos stressed me out 'cause I'm like, some kids gonna come up to me and start talking and I have one shot. I know you can save 'em. I'd always forget to save 'em. - You don't have one shot. It disappears. - If you don't save them, some people have their settings that disappears after two minutes. - Oh, shit. - I can control that in my settings. - Yeah, but for you sending voice memos to other people, you can change your personal settings. - Oh, I didn't, but I disappeared. I really listened to my-- - They disappeared. - I also don't listen to voice memos. - You just want to transcripts. - You just want to transcript every single time. - Yeah. - Oh. - I do personally like sending them better, especially if it's long. I try not to, unless I'm gonna respond with something long. But, and I usually give 'em a warning. I'm like, this, sorry, yeah. - Usually if it's like something, we're talking about a subject. It's not like details for things. - Yeah. - We're getting deep. - Yes. - Ella says, "Tiny spoons make desserts taste better." - Yeah, I agree, Ella. - I need to slow down so that's why I get really good. - Yeah, I don't like using a big spoon 'cause that makes me a little sad. I'm like, it's gonna go way faster. 'Cause you might know I will be taking a big bite. (laughing) - This girl, Ilya said, "Sleeping naked." - Oh. - I can't do that. - Eat too sweaty. - Would you would think sleeping naked be less sweaty, but it's actually more sweaty. - Well, it's just getting on your sheets instead of your pajamas. - You're right. So I just feel it more. - Also my skin touching-- - There's so many reasons why I can't sleep naked. - No, but also my skin touching. If my shorts are too short and my legs are touching at night, it's just wet. So don't want that. - I don't want to be exposed. I can't-- - I need it if I had. - I can't have anything exposed. I have to have blanket covered. I just don't like to have exposed. Even if I don't like my cheeks out, even if I'm not wearing pants. - I also do always think about the worst. I'm like, "What happens if there's something bad?" - To death? - And I'm naked. - I'm also, yeah, I'm getting up a lot in the night too. - Not a lot, but every night I get up pretty much. - Well, yeah, you're peeing a lot. - With that and also for my kids. - Oh, sure. - I'm like, "If I just came in there full-length naked night, "let me out, probably don't want to rope." I could do that, but I just don't-- I'm not comfortable that way. - Sure, sure, sure. - No matter what job you do, it's the people that you work with that matters the most. This is what Steven's daughter says. - Yeah, I think that's a good hill. - Yeah, for sure. - For a good opinion. - Caitlin said, "Ranchon pizza, delicious." - I love it. - Or if I know you from the Midwest. - Katie says, "Unreal M&M's stuffed in raspberries "is an elite sweet treat." - Katie, that sounds good. - That's amazing. - I used to put chocolate chips in raspberries. - I never thought to do that. - I saw someone did it and I didn't know it was amazing. - Love that, love that. - This one says, or it's Sorika Anders says, "Texting K is aggressive." - It is aggressive. - I fear that I do that. - Can we talk about the different types of okays and what they mean? - Yeah, okay, okay. K, no period, I think is okay. - Capitalized or lowercase? - Lowercase is aggressive. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. Lowercase K period is aggressive. - Any K period is aggressive. - Yeah. - That's right, you're fighting. Okay, just okay. - Fine. - Fine. - Okay, why? Joyful. - Really, I never type that. - I do. - I do type that. - Why? - If I text, okay, just like, "Oh, and a K," I'm in the middle of something. - I've never done that ever. Like send out. - I always do. - I've never done that. - That's what I do, always. - Yeah. No, I would never just send a K, actually. - I would agree. - I would agree. - The Emily said the opening of a pillowcase goes towards the interior of the bed when making it. - Oh, that's what? - I never thought of that. - I always do the opposite. - I just do hoavage comes. - I do that. Then you don't see the seam on the outside. - See that. - I don't do it every time, but that's how I would do it if I was thinking about it. - Oh wait a minute. Mine doesn't have a seam, it zips. - Oh, that's cool. This is the difference between type 8 people and myself. - Yeah, let's do it. - I don't make my bed. - I made my bed. - I don't make the bed. - See, I'm like, making the bed is enough, but then there's people that are like, "I want to make the bed and look beautiful." I think mine looks good, but it's not the best made bed ever. - You never make our bed. - I have and I can't go back, but I also live in a small room, so if our bed's not made, you can't walk in there. - I used to not in our room during the day. - Yeah, that's true. - So I'm like, why would I make that? - Just to unmake it every day. - It's kind of funny. Molly said, "When you turn 29, you've already completed "year 29 and you're beginning year 30." That's a funny hill to die on. I actually don't understand. - I get it. When you turn 1, you've completed one full year, year of life. - I like it. - I'm not starting year 30, I've already been 30. - Yeah, you've done your full 30 years. - So you're already 30, even though you're 29. - So you're starting 30 years in one day? - I rebued that. - I'm sorry. - I wasn't mentally prepared last year for that. - This is funny. I don't like it. - I don't like it. (laughing) - Anika says, "Guys, day out of their league, "more often than girls do." - For sure. - For sure. - That is, I thought that was a given. - Wait, Molly, this is another conspiracy. Molly said, "Elvis Presley is still alive," and I'm not denying that. I mean, I am, but there's this pastor in Arkansas that people believe is Elvis Presley. (laughing) - I didn't know that. He went through his, Elvis's daughter's funeral. Why would he be there? And he sounds like him many things. Kinda looks like him too. That's all I need to know. (laughing) I don't think I have lunch like one hour on TikTok and I was like, "I'm convinced." - In hour? - Yeah, I think I do one night. (laughing) - You really just sent that. - This one says, "Sox and bed are criminal." Jaina says that. - No, I go through seasons where I talk to bed. - I used to work at Cassidy. - What are my cassidy that says, "What socks aren't that bad?" - Wet socks aren't that bad. - Wet socks are very bad. - That's crazy. - My socks are very bad. - That's really bad. That's fun. These are fun. Love that. - These are good ones. - The public chain, when I did mention, was to bring back public chain. People need to be held accountable. - We have public chain. - It's called cancel culture. - Yeah. - I am more so like, a little bit of maybe like bullying, a little. (laughing) - We're saving the family. - We're saving the family. - We're saving the family area. - You're sibling chimble friends. - Bible friends? - Or no, can you buy your friends? - I think you're sibling should like, when you're a little, it can only be your siblings. - It can only be your siblings and I think only your sibling should bully you. - Yeah. - But I think like my sisters are very mean to me and it's for my benefit sometimes. - It's a good place to thicken your skin. - It is. - In the safety of your own home. - In the safety of your own home with the people that actually love you. - Exactly. - And yeah, I mean. - You need some people to tell you when you're being crazy. - Yeah. - And you need to be your siblings. - Keep in check. Keep your humble. - Keep your humble. (laughing) And then you don't put your fun in your mouth and more high stakes environments. - I would agree. - I would agree. - We've talked about this before. (laughing) - Let's not get quoted as saying, "Bring back bully." - No, no, that's not what I meant. (laughing) - That is not the record. - She's not the record saying that. - She's the record saying that. - I wish she'd killed bully. - Bullie. - Bullie. (laughing) - Let's keep that off record. - Yeah, there's, let's thank you for the context in that one. - Yeah, of course. - There's a lot of context in that one. - Wait, wait, wait, wait. (laughing) Hold it. (laughing) Okay. Well, let's talk about our hills that we die on. - Yeah. - My first one we already kind of talked about. - But I didn't say my opinion on it. My first hill that I will die on is that Costco doesn't save you money. - Yeah, I think that's probably true. - Costco doesn't not save you money. We, I shop at Costco. I enjoy shopping at Costco. I will never say that I go there because I feel like I'm saving anything. - No. - I do think it saves time. When I go and I get my Costco, like my Sam's Club stuff, I'm not had.
we need to go to the store as often. - Okay. - Yeah, yeah. - Yeah. - For the main things. - Yeah. - Like if I had to go to the store and buy those oicos yogurts for how often we eat them, that would just be wasteful. - Wasteful. - You could just buy that quantity there. - But it's more, I think that is more expensive. Maybe. (laughing) - Maybe I disagree with you. (laughing) - See, it's just, I feel like they do a lot to make you feel like you're saving money, right? 'Cause it's very stripped back. It's not like they don't have the floors on the ceiling. Everything's in pallets. Like you are doing a lot of exercises yourself. You feel like you're cutting costs, but then your bill is always so high. - I think you just ended up eating more. - You just ended up eating more. - Like if you got Costco meat, if I ended up getting steak at Costco, I'm gonna eat all that steak in a week or two, rather than buying one thing of steak every week in it lasting my family for four weeks. - You're not rationing as much. - No, I'm not rationing when I happen. - It's available. - It's available. - It's available, I'm like, I want steak tonight. We have it instead of being like, it's only once a week. - Yeah, that's really interesting. - I have started buying my meat from Costco, but I individually wrap it and freeze it. - That's what I do too. - Yeah, I make it, I have to save it so I last out the week or two. I do think in two areas it saves me money. Fruit and meat. The fruit at Sam's is way bigger and it lasts so long. Those are the only two areas, really. - Gas is good, but just at the right time, you can't wait in that line. Blake did go at 8 p.m. the other day and it's really quick. - Yeah, if you're waiting in line for more than 10 minutes for gas. - You're wasting it. - You're wasting your gas and your time. - You're not saving my gas. - That's a lot of time to save three bucks. - Yeah, I would also shop at Costco and I still do like Costco a lot, but yeah, it'd be been marketed too. - I'm definitely having a raking up a bill every time. - Sure, for sure. - It's a hefty bill. Yeah, what stores are we going to and just dropping like 300 bucks cash just for one? - And it's a crazy place to impulse buy, but I do it. Like I feel like I'm like, oh, I'm here. It has this kind of novelty. Like I don't go that often. So I'm like, I gotta get it. - Yeah. - And then, this is where you really lose your budget friendly. If I get my kid snacks there as soon as I buy it in bulk, this is just the rule they don't like it anymore. - Oh, interesting. - So then we have all the, I'm just having the bobo's, I'll never be burned again. - The bobo's, poor bobo's. - All the bobo's went bad. - I've been to CJ2, he didn't like them after he loved them. - Once you get them, once you get them in bulk they will hate them. - Totally. - So my first one is Amazon Alexa. Yeah, it's not allowed anywhere near a home. At Caleb had one in college and I made him get rid of it before Amazon Alexa. - He was like making purchases on that? - No, I just, for some reason I was like, "Hey, that thing's recording you all the time." Because it always has to be in Alexa. - It always has to be listening for, "Hey, Alexa." So then that means it's listening to you all the time and that really freaked me out. - Yeah. So I'm not gonna ever come over again and just kidding. But I was like, yeah, that's not gonna be a lot in our home. - Your phone does that. - No, I have it turned off. - Oh, okay. - Every time I get a new tech I go in and turn off the like listening settings. Every app, I make sure that that setting is not on there. I don't know. I make a little, don't listen to me. Now that I have anything to hide. - No, I'm really like. - But I do like privacy. - I mean, Alexa, online. - All of our lights on our lamps are like electronic. - See, that's cool. - And so we tell her to turn on the lights and Braille's room or turn the lights off and they're a bad room or. - Yeah, that's nice. - So that's helpful. - I do miss out on the convenience of things. - You do. - But I'm like, uh, get out. - Unfortunately, I'm resigned to the fact that they're listening to me. - I've put enough out there anyway, probably. - Yeah. (laughing) - Honestly, save. So I'm like, it's silly that I say I want to be a private, but that was like, it's privacy. - I'm just really, really value my privacy. So I know Alexa, but. - More about me. - I feel all day long. (laughing) - No, I get that, that's valid. I feel like I felt that way at times, but then I was like, "Man, this thing is really kind of fun." - Yeah. - My kids like it too. They're like, "Hey, Google, play. "Like to move it, move it." (laughing) - And Google never knows what they're saying. - Yeah, like what? - Like what bully are Alexa? - Like, he's just being him, he like says mean things. (laughing) - That she didn't know. - She just gotta scratch it. - She's like, she's like, "It's okay, Blake." Like, she's like, got an update recently. And the other day, like she was just, I don't know what Blake asked. - It's so weird. - He's like, "Can you turn my timer off?" She goes, "Yes, of course, Blake." And I'm like, at any time she calls him Blake, I'm like, "That's just so weird that she knows it's him." - Yeah. - Yeah, at first they base us get out of it. - You're right, it is kind of, it's a little, they know you. - Thinking of AI. - Yeah. - Well, Caleb would be like, "Hey, my wife, who talked to Chad?" I'd be like, "My wife and I are blah, blah, blah, blah, blah." And it would go, "Oh, that's cool that you and Abby are doing that." And I was like, "You didn't tell it my name." I didn't like that. - I don't even know who I am. - So, keep my name out of your mouth. I think I said it to that. (laughing) - That's my first one. - Certainly. - Certainly. - Sorry about that, man. (laughing) - You can only call me, "Mam," now I'm, owner. - Master. (laughing) - Oh, this is a big hill I have. - Okay, let's hear it. - We need to bring dating back. - Ooh, fun. - I'm talking about, like, for people that aren't married. - Yes, you need to date when you're married. - I'm talking about, like, why are you looking at me like that? - 'Cause I'm laughing about my next one. (laughing) - Okay, hold my thought. What's your name? - I'm sorry, kind of actively listening. (laughing) I'm really looking at me like, (laughing) - I just beat mine. (laughing) - I just beat him, I just beat him, I just beat him. (laughing) - Literally like, it's like Matt. Like, Matt's thinking about something that's not I'm saying. And I'm like, you know what I'm just gonna have to do. (laughing) - I'm sorry. (laughing) - I'm gonna beat him, I'm just saying. - Matt was talking to Blake yesterday, and he has something, and then Blake was like, finally answering him, and then he was looking at Matt, and he's like, he's not saying. (laughing) - No, I was just like, you lost him. - You lost him, you took way too long dancing. (laughing) - He's so smart, but then when he does that like, they don't even know that you're like really smart because he was like, (laughing) - Where is this like, why I wonder what he's thinking about? - No, literally, I'm just like, what are you thinking right now? 'Cause I know that it's nothing that is happening in this level. What's it's done in this level? - So, bring back dating. - Sorry. - Bring back dating, 'cause I like hear about girls in high school and college, and no one's, no one's going on dates, what's going on? No one's taking them on date. - I love the idea of you. I was gonna say training. Your boys up. - Training the boy, it will be so fun to take them on. - It'll be fun to train them. - I'm like, it'll just ask them on a date, and I also just like the idea of that so much because I feel like now it's become acceptable for, which it's like, it's fine. For people to just text a bunch of people. - Yeah. - So distracted. (laughs) - For people to get, oh, we should have, like the boy cousins practice dating with their kids. (laughs) - No, that's real out on a date. - That's like, that's weird. (laughs) - No. - That's actually weird. - Bitch, you can ask Bimmi out on it. - That's a pretty question to not ask on a date. - Train them off, you can have him practice with your kids. (laughs) It's like, we're gonna start crazy rooming. (laughs) - Sorry, that's why I was holding back that laugh. - But I also don't think that-- - Yeah, they're texting a million people. - They're texting a million people, but then that also is considered dating sometimes. It's like, if you're like texting-- - It's like, it's like-- - It's like talking. - Like talking. - They're talking. - They're the talking state. Do you remember that from high school? - And, and I'm like, it's just, it feels clear to be like, hey, let's go on a date. - Yeah. - And yeah, it's scary, and that's why you should do it. Like that's why you have to take that little bit of a jump. - Right. - I also think that should be just, it's like, if that's the scariest thing you have to do. - What a great life. - I think it's really going to help your character. - Yeah, totally. - I think I'll be great. And, I think it's just good for everyone. And it's really so fun. - Yeah. - And I'm talking about dates outside of homes. They don't need to be expensive. You could do a bunch of free ones, but I'm talking about like, we went on a lot of fun dates in like that season of time. Like, and it was like, I could look forward to it. I was like, I'm Friday night, we're gonna go to a pup pot or like, whatever it was, or get ice cream or go on a hike. Like, these things, and I think that, that made our dating experience super memorable. 'Cause I'm like, oh, remember that time? We did the haunted house or remember that time? - Totally. - We did this. - Totally. - Like, now people are like, I don't really know when we technically started dating or when we like technically, like, and I'm like, it just, I want it to be romantic again. And also, I think there needs to be something on the line. I think they need to put a little skin in the game and face the possibility of being rejected. Yeah, it's really not that bad. First, when you were in high school, I didn't have a date to homecoming. So I asked the guy, I said, if you don't have a date and I don't have a date, you want to just go together and he said, no, I don't think so. And I think he's like, I'd rather go alone, Abigail. - He did. (laughing) - I'm like, I missed out on them. - I'm fine. So, that's a hard year. - You're better. (laughing) - Remember I threw a party, no one came. Same homecoming. And you know what? This is why you were the resilient, strong, confident woman you are today. - Thank you. It did make me resilient. It also made me never want to throw a party again. (laughing) You face that fear. - I did, I've done many parties. I think that's a really good one, Abby. I love that. And dating is a lost art. It's a lost art. - It's a lost art. Bring it back. We will die on that hill.
Okay, so with my second one is fish and chips if it's on the menu if it's on the menu you're not allowed to order it. Why? I My my hill I'm dying on For what? Okay, okay, I'll get on the hill, but I'm just like why if you're at a restaurant that has salmon steak Pizza people from the UK are like no, I know fish and chips are delicious If you're at a restaurant that has anything else you're not allowed to order fish and chips. Oh, you can only get a fish and chips Restress. Yes, it's too casual to be on like if you're going to culinary drop out and you order fish and chips I'm out of you. You know what do you mean? Yeah, my dad's definitely done that. I know it just feel it's like the adult version of chicken strips And I'm like you just can't do it. Why do I not feel that way exactly really? Yeah, I feel like fish and chips are kind of every time Good because they're not I usually they're like potato wed like I know but it just bothers me every time a restaurant and kills Like I'm gonna get the fish and chips. I said certainly you're not Certainly you're getting something a little bit more exotic Are you are you comparing it to a fish strips or fit? Yeah, I'm like you're gonna get fish sticks No, not a restaurant the only person. I know that eats fish sticks is your son I love a good fish and chip But it's only at like a fish and chip spot. Okay, I respect this. Yes, I respect and it's actually surprisingly on a lot of menus Because this is the conversation kale that I have often he's like, I'm gonna get the fish. I go stop right there But it gets it sometimes too. Right. Just it's not because they like beer. It goes with beer. Yeah, it's yeah, we're not getting it We're not getting it and if it's not an Irish restaurant, you're not allowed to order it. I kind of get that Thank you. Where are we at? We're clocking back in. We just took a little breather. What time is it? Four clock. Look at that. We're making great time. Making great time. Um, that is my next hill And this is like not even funny. So I don't even know why I put this one on here, but I guess Sorry, it's turning to some of them. It's not serious. We're not serious. Oh as that newborns can only wear pajamas That's my new rule. Oh, you're dying on that one. I'm dying on that one for my third because I'm like I was just like looking at the clothes and I was like Yeah, you're not gonna wear those until you're three months old I feel like we're just gonna do jammies, but I get it because it's like so exciting You have your baby you want to like you just want to dress them up and do cute things I just remember trying to wrestle both of them and that I'm like their limbs are so fragile I'm like let's just do jammies. Keep it simple zip it up. Mm-hmm. They're gonna they're sleeping all day anyway. Mm-hmm They should be in jammies. Okay So um this baby will not be wearing clothes until they're three months old. That's funny I was team get dressed dress my baby. Really? But I also do think weather depends Weather's hard. I feel like the summertime is hard because the pajamas are long You can get jammies aren't but yeah, you're right. Yeah You're in the hoodie put jammies, but if you're in the hoodie put jammies I only felt like I had to get her dress because I had clothes that were that size that I felt like I needed to use So I would also put her in jammies at night and then put her in a onesie during the day like without the Yeah, like without the legs, but I I kind of agree they don't have to They don't have to wear clothes. Yeah, I think a onesie is a good idea to that that counts as pajamas. Yeah, I would agree I would agree, but yeah, it's a little like cute outfits. It's too much. It's too difficult I remember trying to get them in the suspenders both of them. Okay, yeah, that's a no That's I mean, it's cute, but it's just like way too much work way too I was like you don't like this sad for you. Mm-hmm. I'm manipulating all your little limbs into this And we're forcing a round peg in a swear hole here. We don't like it. We're not we don't need to do it. So I just I'm telling myself that we're if we have if we End up actually going through all of our old clothes. I'm only pulling out the jammies for zero to three months. Uh-huh So yeah, okay. I love it. I think that's valid My third and last one is q-tips. Yeah, they'll be going in my ears. They're gonna be showed up in there not far Actually, I did go a little too far a couple weeks ago and I like ow You know when he like hit it If you're an ENT just ignore you that okay, but my ear drum is fine I'm certain in a couple years. I will go in there and have to get scraped out. I'm prepared for it No, do it after the shower. So it's already wet. I yeah Yeah, I only do it to get the water out of my ear To get the water out of your ear. Yeah, and I just do it around the outer rim same Yeah, I'm not like getting up in there to get the wax out I'm really just trying to keep the water out because I don't like wet ears Can I tell you I so agree and the only time I had issues with ear wax is when Matt made me get rid of q-tips I literally had to go So much ear wax on my ear drum couldn't hear they had to blast it. That is uncomfortable It hurts and it's just a dumb reason to go to the doctor. Yeah, sure Do you have the same ear wax as please? Yes. Oh my gosh if you didn't have q-tips he has to use them every single day Like yeah, or it is outside of his ear. Yeah And I think I think pre-also Did you guys get your infections growing up? No, I don't know what's what these kids you did But I don't think Blake did I never did Matt I was talking about like what the heck my family? I think four to six sets of tubes like among us four kids really my straight multiple sets I think I had one set. Oh, okay. Interesting. Wait. Do they stay in your ear? No they fall out They fall out once the as your kids get older they stop getting your infections And so it's the anatomy changes and they fall and we're just explaining because they just fit into There so when your ear gets bigger it falls out Yeah, as your ears grow they fall out and then you don't have your infections anymore. What a great method. Right That's crazy. It's crazy. I actually know that Yeah, I will be using the q-tips on my ears. I will not allow my children to see me put them in my ears No, but I certainly will that's a grown-up thing every day After every shower you best believe I do it. No, I only do when I wash my hair Well, I would say that same. Yeah, and I look forward to it I also get makeup in my ears and I got to clean that out. Oh, I need to blend my makeup That's a good one. I totally agree Can you tip tying on that hill Tie on that hill We won't hear we won't be able to hear we won't be able to hear you if you disagree That's great. But this is like our short little our stars rating quick little over cap Maybe you won't do any spoilers here. No spoilers like if you're still interested in reading it because I know this book did come out recently Yeah, um we read the book yesterday by carrow Claire bird Claire bird have your book back. Thank you Um, I get this book before and how stars same are you before? And here's the thing all of us hated parts of it and loved it at the same time. It made me mad It made Addy mad. It made me laugh made you laugh and I was just deep in thought like I feel like every time I would like Read the book. I would go back to Matt and be like okay And like I was like that was little and then other times I'm like I just can't believe how much I hate this main character And I'm still invested right right like usually like I'm like if you don't like the main character then you're kind of like for me I'm like what's the point right? No, that was the point That was a point. There was enough hatred to fuel me through the end. It was so entertaining very entertaining You could read this book like you would be in I'm very confident you'd be invested from the jump. Yeah And if you're in a book slump This would get you out of a book slump. I agree got me out of the book was so good. The pacing was good I thought the writing was really easy to follow. I think she had so many things that connected it made sense like it was so strategic I just thought it was really a smart book Yeah, it was my favorite ones we've read for sure really thought provoking. I will say like The resolution comes in the last 10 times. Yeah, and it doesn't you don't see it coming and I think that the way it was I think without the last 10% I would have a very different opinion of love the ending. Yeah, like I think that Ed and a pen
Apparently, the ending was, no what, here's the thing. People always hate the endings, that's my thing. - I know, that's it. - I'm like, we don't want the book to end. - Yeah, but what'd you want her to do? - Yeah, right. - I think this ending was very creative, thoughtful. I never would have guessed it. And it tied up every loose end purposefully. And I was like, oh, she knew the ending before when she wrote the Sentire book. Whereas sometimes I feel like with books, I'm like, all they scrambled to close all these up. But it's like, everything felt so full circle. - Yeah. - I really appreciate that. And I hope she writes more books. - This was a book that I genuinely thought, I was like, I'm gonna hate this. I'm probably gonna be offended by a lot of it. And I laughed a lot and I thought it was brilliant. So, I mean, it talks about influencers and Christians. And these people are horrible. And I just honestly thought that added to it. Like, all the scripture taken out of context. It was like, this just makes sense. Like, it made sense, do you know what I mean? And so I think you have to read it that way. Now, obviously people that hate influencers and, they'll probably love Christians. They'll probably love it and be like, yeah. - They'll probably do them more, yeah. - But I think if you lead it to the lens of like this, you know, I don't know. I just wasn't bothered by it. I thought it was actually an entertaining read. So, I loved it. - I just didn't think I was gonna say that about this book. - I didn't think you would eat it. - I feel defensive for like the creators. I do feel like it was specifically targeted. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Well, I will say that again. I said, I'm gonna pay try and I'm saying it here. I will die on that hill. Y'all misunderstand that girl. - Because I feel like if she, like I don't think she would possibly enjoy this book. - She would hate this book. - Yeah. So then I just feel like defensive for that. I don't even know her. - Yeah, I don't even follow her closely. I don't even know if I'm not even sure I follow her, but I honestly know who she is. - Yeah. - And I feel like there's a part of me that feel like defensive and sad for her because of this book. - Yeah. I do think just in general, the hate that she gets a full session. - She's Mormon. - Okay. - Okay, yeah. They could have made this character Mormon and that would have been. - Yeah, they didn't. I think she was almost, I was a little confused. I think she's almost like men and night or like almost homage. Like they call their homage, not Harvard. - They also call their Baptist and they also called, like they didn't know. - Yeah, they didn't know what she was. - Yeah. - But she was obviously some very like, very strict sects. Like she only wore, she never cut her hair and stuff. - Yeah, they also said she was Baptist. - I know, but now I'm confused. - Like they thought she was everything. Like they didn't know what she was. - 'Cause she didn't cut her hair and she was very like so dude and her dress. I don't know, I just thought the character was so interesting, like. - Yeah. - I just, I thought it was brilliant. - It's like I said. - Like obviously just agree with a lot of it, but I think it was a good read. - I think it was a great read and I think it was very thought provoking, very, and I think that, yeah, like I said, the ending was great. - I think the ending was great. - The ending was great and I wouldn't recommend it to everybody. - Right. - I would recommend it to pretty much people that are our age. Like I think that if I were to recommend it to like my mom's age or my grandma's age, they would be very confused. But there's a lot of references that are very specific to our age or even high school. I'm like, I don't think that, they definitely shouldn't be reading this book. - No, I think about it. - No, they shouldn't. - No, there's a lot of cussing. - It's an adult read. - Yeah, there's cussing. There's some like sex scenes in it. - Sex scenes. - Not sex scenes, not what, not sex scenes. - Not sex scenes, but it is like more open door. But yeah, just, right. - I would say there's a small audience that I would give this one a 100% recommendation to, and then the other audience, I'd be like, yeah, it's not for you. - Yeah, I know. - You don't have to read this one. - Yeah. And like when I think about my grandma reading it, I'm like that for you to know. - Yeah, she would be on my page. (laughing) - Yeah. You gotta look through it. - You just look at like a sad tar. - I feel like I read it as a sad tar thriller. I would think about it like a George Orwell. (laughing) - Who's that? - The guy who wrote, like there's a lot of like political sci-fi, like animal farm, 1984, like, it's like a modern day, one of those. - Okay, gotcha. - Like where it's like a social commentary. - I had to read it in the form of a fiction. - I thought it was gonna be like Barbie movie, and it wasn't. I thought it was gonna be like this blaringly obvious, like Christian Suck and Influencer Suck vibe, but I didn't really get that, like. - You thought that the blaringly movie was like that. - You didn't get that, by the way. - No, but you know, the Barbie movie was just like, really obviously like girl power. - Yeah. I would say that if you're a woman in your 20s or 30s that has, I think you do need some type of familiarity with like, tradwife, like lore. - And maybe you're like a level head. - If you're a level head, I read this. (laughing) - Yeah, you're like, I didn't make me mad. I'm like, well, there are some elements that were like a little bit (laughing) bristled my hairs. - There were a couple of things, and I'm like, wow, that was a little far. (laughing) - But the character's crazy. - Yeah. - Okay, that's what I gotta say. - Got it. - Okay, Patreon got it all. - Patreon got the girl. - Ask, ask, ask, ask, Abby. - Hi, Abby, Abigail, and Abby. I love your podcast, and I don't know why I was just thinking of this question to ask you guys. I'm curious, as a fellow Midwest girly, if you guys ever missed a Midwest, the people may be food that you miss or different events or if you're fine with just visiting, and very happy with the move, which I'm sure you are, but I am curious. What do you guys' podcasts love you guys? Bye. - I think it's sweet, thanks for listening. I mean, a Midwest summer is so magical. It really is a magical kind of place. - We were talking about this before, I was eating corn on the cob. I was like, "It's just not the same." - It's just not the same. The corn on the cob is unbelievable. - The prices here are way bad on corn, and it's way worse. - The ice cream here is not as good. Like, I miss my custard ice cream. I miss my emo's pizza for my St. Louis people. Miss Toast Ravioli. - Summer Dollar City. - A good casserole. It's just a lost art here. - It's a lost art. - Honestly, people here don't like sports. Miss that. People in the Midwest love the sports. - You're with the wrong people. - Well, I know you guys like sports, but none of our friends like sports. - Actually, that's actually very true. - In the West don't like sports. - Like, at a hard time finding friends that are like, as passionate about sports. - Yes, it's a Midwest thing, because what a team can do. - Or car sales many other day really like sports. So that probably helps them. - Yes, there's just so many other things we would be interested in. Not like a dig at the Midwest. I just mean like, outside sports. Like motor sports is a big thing, and like trekking and rock climbing and camping. Like that's just way more of a thing out here than like going to a football game. - Yeah. - It's just different. Like the culture on sports is so different. And I loved the Midwest culture on sports way better. Obviously, the people in the Midwest are so nice. - They're way nicer. - Met really nice people, but I'm just saying like, in general, like your stranger interactions are gonna be much better. Your driving interactions will be - Much better and more friendly. - Yeah. - In the West. - They're mean. - I got honked at today. - Yeah. - I'm still chuffed. - It was me, actually. - No, they did a triple honk. I was like, "Okay, the leg just turned red." - You're honked at a lot. - I feel like I do, but I also like, people are honking all the time here. - Right. - Like, it's because the light was green. - I never get honked at. - That's a flex. - You could use a homo all the time. (laughing) - You never got out. - Too sure. - Yeah. - I'm just kidding. - People are always honked at me. - Maybe just 'cause I'm more like I'm also just, I just make it up every time I get honked at. - That's true. - That's true. (laughing) - Maybe I just don't hear the honks 'cause I play on my music so loud. - Also, I will say my personality is like, I don't know who they're honking at, but it was probably me. (laughing) - And I'm not the best driver. - It's funny. - So, but to answer your question, I am content visiting. - Same, yeah, it's perfect. - Yeah. - I mean, I love Missouri, but I love Arizona. It just suits my life style a little better, I hear. - Yes. - The sun really cannot be beat. - I can't beat. - I can't beat. - Hi, this is Jenna, this is Izzy, and we're big fans of the show and we wanted to say you remind us a lot of the moms we babysit for and after we watch their kids, we sit and hang out for like two hours of talking. - We feel like we're mentally your age. - Yes, but we're 21 and 23, too. - So, we wanna know what you look for in babysitters. - Thank you. - We love you. - What you look for in babysitters, that's such a cute question. - That's the sweetest question ever. - Is he gonna be a said they're 21? I'm like, we're the same age. - You know what I was like, I am 25, oh shoot. (laughing) - Oh my gosh, that's so, that's a fun question. - I can't even take the children, so I'm a five. - You're a baby. (laughing) - Oh my gosh, that's sweet. I'm gonna be so honest. I don't have the luxury being picky right now. - You're like availability. (laughing) - But at the babysitters, I have that I love. Like, we have a girl that has pretty consistent for us. And she is so sweet. I mean, I think I just look for someone that genuinely enjoys hanging out with kids and my kids also genuinely enjoy hanging out with. Someone that's safe and meets that criteria, obviously, that I trust. Like, usually there's a lot of recommendations. My friend's niece is our babysitter right now. - We have the luxury of having a lot of family here, both of us, but like, so I have, there's been very few times, honestly, that we've had a non-family member watch our kids, but the couple times that it has happened, I really appreciate when a babysitter takes, like, I was gonna say takes in the shift, that's not necessarily the word I mean. Like, they are, like, organ, they're like, say, "Oh, we can do this." - Yes, of course. - And like, they wanna do activity.
And like step in and like our very hands on because I I'm like I just know my kids like they're going to There will be they have energy. Yeah, they want to do that They'll go a bunch of ways and I like that Do you like if they kind of like structure activity? I would love the idea of a sitter like being like I was thinking we could do this today like I would be like yes I love that and it a concept for them and obviously you're not gonna do that the whole time right But I think it'd be a great idea if you like had like when I would babysit kids I I always love to try to this depends on the age bake with them because I feel like it was like semi-educational it kept them entertained for a long time and then they got like a little treat afterwards Like it was a good thing to do and like an organized activity also feels outside the normal like something that I wouldn't Necess it's gonna think of something that I wouldn't do. Yeah, but Yeah, I think I also it's just an added bonus if you pick up after yourself If you're babysitting I would always try to do that my mom. Yeah taught me to do that when I would maybe there's a lot does good Notice and I love and babysitters maybe people have different pains on this but text me frequently and send pictures I really do like that like I just want to know that everything's good I like love I love an update same with our dog when people watch our dog and like please send me a picture often I want to make sure everything's good like everyone's happy. Yeah, everything's good everything looks taken care of I actually really like when my babysitter is like personable and wants to talk to me. Yeah, like it's not just like in-out business And like I try to be conversational, you know, cuz I like I feel like letting them see your your personality and like I don't know. I appreciate that and Timeliness. Oh, yeah, it's important and good and I also appreciate when my the babysitter doesn't turn this I kind of make a point I'm like we try not to watch greens, but obviously it's like oh, yeah if you have to but especially with little little I feel like that's if You ask that like hey, what are your boundaries in screen time? I would have a yeah, have a bad agree upon before you think probably That's good. Yeah, that's a just be question. Hey guys. I love the podcast Finish listening to it.
