Opening Round Review | AFL Fantasy 2026

It means that we, oh, boys and ladies. It means it is round one week season about to get underway, which is absolutely fantastic. Cherry ripe and ready to go for round one. I think I've actually timed my preseason just perfectly. Turns out after opening round we've all got the same team anyway. So you know, hit my straps at the right time and ready to kick off this week. Yeah, exactly right. Yes, very looking much forward to this upcoming week. And joining us from on the road, it is Taser mate. How are you? How was opening round for you? Yeah, I'm really well. Thanks mate. Opening round was good. It's good to have footied back. And it's, it's, it's all good. But he'd certainly the doggy's breezy game as a cracker. Yeah, it's glad to get back into it. Yeah, exactly. And your, as I said, driving on the freeway at the moment on the way, he's from bustle to no where in W.A. So got a W a centric pod here with obviously guests to yourself and Tom and then I'm sort of an honorary W a guys, but someone's been over there a number of times. But it's good to have you on on the road or otherwise. And Tom has jumped on as well. Tom, mate, how are you? Did you enjoy opening round? I did. I did. It was nice to watch footied with a meaning for a change rather than just trying to look into roles and time on grounds and points per minutes and all that all the other stuff that we're trying to look into preseason, actually getting five games of footied, which I think is four to a little or five to many, which way I want to look at it for opening round. But we got, we get what we're given and we've got to use that data to really get how the best starting size we can out from Thursday onwards. Yeah, yes, exactly right. That's a big week for sure. So I obviously did a review with the ball boys a little bit a few days ago. So we'll go through quickly these players here who did chat about them bidding debts. But we'll start off with with Errol Gordon Tom. Is he someone that he was someone you'll can number four, but he locked himself into time. I'm not going to say it's absolutely locked into my team. I was pretty keen after Thursday. The more I'm a little bit of a I don't like his next couple of fixtures into his buy. So I'm that role wasn't as ripe as what I would love it with a lot of forward time in that game. So the score was great and he will probably be be there for me. But I've just got a little bit a little bit of worry about the role in the run. If I want to change a structure to bring maybe two big rucks in, then I need to call somebody somewhere and that might be where I go. Yeah, exactly. Hey Tom, let's just let's talk about that role for a second. So in the first half playing forward. I mean, I know obviously Sydney kind of changed here in the second half and he moved into the midfield and both Grundy and him kind of took off. But how did you see that? Is that lingering from the injury, the ankle injury, do you think? I mean, he's not also that one-on-one contested player that you're starting to see a lot of midfield make-ups kind of being built around, right? So I could see from a rob perspective why they'd played Goodon on the outside, but or up forward. But how did we see it moving forward? Do we kind of see that maybe coming back a little bit? Do we think that's now done and dusted and gone? So we saw a similar role in the court replayed against UWS. I started that first bounce and the first area to the first quarter. That he actually played, he was forward to the ball. So that wasn't just the practice game thing that I thought it might be. Yes, that actually went on in round one. Do I think cops might be in a little, try and be a little bit too fancy? Maybe. But due to the severe differences in amount of sent of ball ups in the two halves, it's really hard to get a read on whether he had more in the second half than in the first half by percentage, but because there was so few in that first half, it really had to get a read on whether it just was due to lack of balls. He didn't get moved. There was no time for those rotations. I'm a little bit more scared than what I was, but that 120 plus score is very hard to look at. Is someone that I've been pretty keen on all pre-season? Yes, he's been someone I've been pretty keen on all pre-season that score. I think did lock it away. They did play a lot better when he did move more into that CBA role. Brody Grundy will touch on him when we get to the dogs game because it's going to be, I want to get all our thoughts on is that Grundy or his English because Grundy was good once again with a ton there. Good second half as well when Sydney really got on top, quite a first half, but still looks as good as ever, so someone to be watching there. Taser, Stan Walsh, 99. had the most CBAs on the ground of any play, including Rucks, which is a really good sign, rested the last five minutes as well when the game was done. So, do you see this 99 almost as a good thing that maybe some people will be scared off with the lower scores, got the round two, Bicepill, much go get him after you. Did you see what you needed to even with some attention from James Jordan in the second and third quarter? Yeah, I was really happy with Sam Rucks' game, that high inside time with the CBAs, he was getting tagged, he got a lot of attention from James Jordan, so he was still getting to the ball. So, it restricted the amount of marks he could get because he just couldn't get three, but I was pretty happy and I think that game's probably more one of his basement games as opposed to a ceiling game. Yeah, exactly, I'm still keen, he's got Richmond, then Melbourne and North Melbourne post that by, so I think really good early run for Sam Walsh, he could even be a VC, got on the first game that if you wanted to train to red-doll, if you put up a 150, you could potentially look at doing that. And then you got Jagger Smith and Jasserong, I think they both locked themselves into our side. Jagger's been a lock, been the number one lock, Tom, for all the preseason, I've been on him as a number one lock, but no, he's locked in, and Jasserong with that 70+ score as well is, I think with that just that cash in, he's going to get, I think we've got to have him on our benches, did have zero points in the third quarter when a few people, including myself, did put him into the team at half time, but he was on the bench for 15 minutes, so I'll blame it on the bench, not any mods or anything like that, but he had Jasserong, I think, someone that's been put into a lot of teams. Moving on to Gold Coast and Jolong, obviously, with the other games, a lot of people plays it, all themselves out. We'll go through the ones that are relevant there in a lot of teams that rule themselves out, or ones that have put themselves into teams. Gold Coast, Jolong, Gasty, someone that locked themselves into our teams, Christian Petraca, someone that was on the, sort of, just on the outside, probably in my squad of 35, and a lot of people already had him in their squad, but you see someone that, if you didn't have him before, is he now locked in at F2 and just not touching it now? Oh, Gasty, on mute. Sorry, boys. So, yeah, look, I think, I think out there there may have been a lot of coaches that were probably a bit on the fence with Petraca, not really knowing whether that, you know, how that mid-forward split was going to go. Also, probably a bit concerned about the Gold Coast Suns game style, and, you know, a bit of a, you know, it's a bit tough at a rack-up fantasy points with that kind of game style, but obviously, it looks like he's, you know, he was always going to be the number one banana, and obviously, with their stocks a bit lower at the moment as well. How long has Raoul out for? Do we have any update on that? Round four, I think, his last year. Yeah, after his buy-up, yeah. Look, I think with his early run, I mean, obviously a pretty tough match-up for opening round, but then his run gets pretty strong. I think, obviously, with a good score on the board to begin with, with the role that he's got, you know, he's pretty close to being a lock-in, I would think most coaches sides. Yeah, exactly. Someone that's putting himself in the my team now, and that's what happens when you get opening rounds, you get some picks that you have, and not a lot of other people have, and on the other hand, you get picks that go. So, so, so, the swings you're round about, so, and I think a lot of us will have similplies in our sides, and Tana Brewnd being one of those players that someone always fairly keen on heading into this game, and scoring 98 played, wing, and then went behind the ball. So, he's someone that will be interested in where he settles in terms of his role, but he locked himself into all their sides being priced in the 500 Ks, and someone that might even get defender status to be playing as that sort of defender, wing-er sort of role there, which I think is locked him in, along with that Leo Lombard being someone that I think is locked into, he airbentches as well. Tom Will Powell was someone that a few people had thought about, but was this enough for you to put a line through him and not enough? Really, really strong role. If he'd scored 15 to 20 points more, I think he would almost be a lot for me, just with those two great fixtures coming up. Having the Merced CBAs for Gold Coast was a really good sign, but this is kind of what we've seen from Will Powell, just not quite having that fantasy game, and unfortunately 69 points, not enough for me to start in with that early buy, especially when we've got players at similar price, who've almost double that score. Yeah, exactly, and there was a few of those players there, and just didn't quite do enough. The role was there, but I think the good thing with the role is, human Alex Davies still had a lot of CBAs, and yet Petraka was still right up there with CBAs. I don't think Petraka's role is changing, and I think that's probably the good thing there with Will Powell getting a lot of CBAs. The thing with Petraka as well, this highest rated game in his career, which is pretty crazy with the amount of games he's played, including the Norsewith performance, obviously in the 2021 Grand Final. This was better in terms of all those statistics and stuff like that. Absolutely fantastic from Christian Petraka. Let's move to GWS and Hawthorne. So a few players to run through. So Stephen Kino is not someone that will be probably looking at in classic, but just someone in draft to pick up will get forward status. Could be someone interesting in round six, if he can put some good scores up there, he could be someone to be looking at. But Taze, Locky Whitfield, Locky Ash, they, the score okay, Whitfield's been someone I've been keen on in the preseason is expensive, but we know Giants do chip round by there, but it's not quite what we saw from them. They did chip a little bit, but not as much as what they have done. Was that do you think due to the Hawthorne matchup? Was it maybe a bit of a change in game stock? Maybe it didn't work last year, so maybe a little bit quicker and maybe that might not mean these 120 plus scores on as much of a regular base as last year four, both Whitfield and Ash. Yeah, look, it's definitely something I'm looking at for, but it didn't seem to be looking for each other quite as much with that waxing that was really clear last year. And also I simply did get a little bit of attention. Of course, I wouldn't throw this virus saying in tag, but I did notice that certainly Locky Ash was getting run by pin beginners. So look, I probably want to see another game, but I do, it makes sense, it makes sense that they spent a lot of time picking around the back line and affected their ability to get forward and get forward in a forwarded time. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's a slight change to that game plan, which has made both guys maybe not quite the 105 to 110 loss that they were last year. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think I agree. He's made his way out of my side for the time being, and I think that they will probably stay that way, but they do have a good at nice early run. So that is a good for him. I think this game's really about a lot of players who have all themselves out because there's no tons in this game. And another player that potentially could have ruled himself out guesty, Connemon Donald, it was a fourth high scoring player for fourth line, which is a tip in itself, right? But he was quite, he was fourth for CBAs, but they had a clear top three, and then they had like four guys that were had a splattering of anywhere from like sort of five to 12 CBAs. So like guys like Nick Watson, Dylan Moore, guys like that running through the long Connemon Donald. And the fact that Petrach is a lock, we think that another guy from the dogs is a lock in a four line, Leo Lombard is a rookie. Does it just, is he just the unlucky guy? I guess that's just maybe squeezed out from that round three by? Yeah, I think so. I think he quite potentially could be this year's Harry Pairman. You know, like in terms of like one of those mid prices that you really kind of put in there to make, you know, not only scored decent, good scores, but to make cash. And I just think he's one of those players that just isn't going to hurt you. I mean, you know, once again, 79 doesn't really, you know, have a huge impact on his break even. I think we've got other better options in the forward line that we can be picking at much cheaper prices, which may make them a lot riskier. And I think ultimately, look, I mean, potentially someone that you can pick, but I had him in my team, but he's no longer in my team. I just, you know, I don't seem making that kind of 25 points worth upside that you need him to make. And look, with those with those mid prices that have really been those kind of winning mid prices in seasons gone by, they've had really big starts to the year, you know, and it's kind of that cash gen that that happens early on in the season that really kind of catapult your head. I don't think C-Mac is a player that's going to hurt you. You know, if you convinced about him, I think you can have him in your side, but I think it's particularly with the other options there and the rookie choices that we've got at the moment, I think he's one of those players that you can fight. Yeah, yeah, and that's a good point as well. I think paying for all someone who don't traditionally score a lot of points can be someone that you've made to start with and he's probably not going to hurt you too much. And if you wanted to fit him in, you could play patracrashis in the mids, but I think he's someone that's made way to my team. To really nail it, Bows, like you kind of set it at the start, right? There was that solid three four was it, and then, you know, there was like about four or five players that kind of filled that the reminders of the set about the tenences and, you know, of which C-Mac was one. You probably would have wanted to see more, more CBAs for him. Yeah, so I'm just a bit, and he doesn't look that solidified in that midfield mix. So yeah, that's technically why I think we should be fading him. Yeah, Tade. Yeah, I would just add one thing is that one of the reasons, uh, also really flicking players through there was because they were getting absolutely smashed by the giants. They were really struggling to win clearance. So it, it, it, it could have just been that they were trying to get the thing different things out or seeing if they could get a reaction or a performance from anyone in there. I wouldn't, I wouldn't necessarily say that it is, you know, that whole thought of just going to run, you know, eight, eight guys through the midfield every single week. I think they probably do want some stability, but they just weren't getting a good performance from any of them. It's Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, that could be a good pointer to be watching for for sure, but yeah, I think probably someone that we're not looking at starting to begin with, but some people may still go there. I think Toby Grand Pro ruled himself out with a low 60 score with the buy a bit expensive. He he adds them CBAs, but probably not the score. I think Breaks, I really want to see some off from Breaks, but 67 had a good start to the game, but faded in the last three quarters, not something we wanted to see want to see a bit more. So he probably could run himself out as well. Tom Harry Roussen is he he's at 63 and he looks like Shelldrick was some we didn't touch on the Sydney, but he played low game time as that fifth mid that would just come on for a bit of impact. Roussen fairly similar also disposal was fairly questionable. A number of times did turn over a few times. Is that just didn't score enough. We just we just rolling me out, particularly if he's going to have low to. I think there's better options and I think with that time on ground, I think this rookies will just be able to score what he scored. So paying up that premium that 200, 300 came off from him. I don't see as an option. I think he could be a fantasy player in season's future, but 2026 that I think it's pretty dead in the water playing that little time on grounds is isn't ideal. Yeah, exactly now Tom, I want to go back to you for this one as well. Right. So can I interest you in a 649 K defender in Sam Taylor. I'm joking. He didn't play is going to be a for a while. Can I interest you in another G. The West defender who everyone knows I can very much be talked into studying a Giants defender that's underpriced. So I'm going to be asked, Joe Fonte, 521 K is what he is priced at and scored a 90 break even is minus 17 on the app, but we know that they've sort of like behind the like behind some of the website they've gone up in price and they'll go up again. So sort of hard to look to break even ago. Yeah, but easy someone that you could look at as a bit of a cash gen got the better buyers while I ran for. Yeah, for me, this is an absolute no. Sam Taylor when got such a down real quick. No, it's no and I'll tell you why Sam Taylor went there to points more than that. So as guaranteed a much higher cash jump than what Joe Fonte is. Joe Fonte, if Joe Fonte scores a 59, he only goes up 66 K. That for me isn't enough instant hit for someone who I don't see any long time upside. Basically what he's doing is taking the point of which field and actually in this game. That's actually kicking it to him rather than to each other. That could be a game plan and I thought I. Or I think more likely it's that's just how the game turned out with maybe lucky ass getting a thing McGinish run with. That kind of thing so for me that that instant sugar hit isn't enough for Joe Fonte and he's someone we've not thought of in the pretty. Has to be some for me to start somebody who when crazy around zero they have to go crazy and 90 for someone priced about 60 isn't enough. And for those and for those playing as well right and Taisa got a 6 I know you're going to say something there right but I'm not kidding Fonte either I'll just plan around with it because I was a big semi last year and I'll stuff myself up by not putting me chilly now that's the last time we're going to hear about some Taylor unless he's head pops up in a pod right but Taisa you want to say something there as well. Have you meet him or that he's a knows on mute no it's still talking. So you're mute. Hello. Yes. This is what happens when you when you when you drive so this what what happens when you drive and pod. Yeah sorry about that guys so I was just going to say with Fonte look his his young player he's showing a lot of promise but last year it was around about the buys he scored a 86 and then I think it was a 74 or 76 and then he followed it up with a 17. Like about 80% game time one seven so that's that's the warning. Yeah exactly that's the thing with him that you could just get a bad score your way and then he's not making any cash at all. I have a subset here from Tim Ashworth who's a regular contributor thank you mate he's saying who's good out of a con on McDonald's Rochelle fill up who I'm assuming that that's hardly read but different. No matter you read no matter you know I'm sorry I'm sorry you're sorry. Apologies to all the fray fans out there for the same thing as I was the read there but Tom who like fed a rank those four how would you rank them. Oh yeah I think I am Rochelle one probably fill up who to Murphy reads three C Matt for but that is that is really close I don't like any of them. I'm probably going to start one of those players and I haven't decided which one it is so that could change tomorrow I think they're all really really close and I think they're all fairly good picks for where they're right. I will get on to fill up who when we talk about the high sense game. I think that's really close and I know what's what else is opinion on that so I can give it a bit of. I'm I'm Rochelle one and no not close by so I just think that midfield role is there for him and I think that the he's going to have a strong year this year but she's I'll tell you what we'll talk about fill up who later on but I'm almost Murphy read over fill up who now just because you get the buy with fill up who the low score so you're not going to make huge many cash early. I think that's a good sort of play bit of dodge ball as the trader said in that game so I almost seem to move read so I think comodond is last just because of the buy that ran three buyers is get for probably going to be a lot of problematic for a lot of coaches so that's probably where I've got those four ranked but it is close I think that they cannot be good picks in their own way but I've got a lot of money as the one if you are just trying to choose one there that's it from the Giants horse game so let's move over to Brisbane and the bulldogs another high scoring game and a cracking game of footies well obviously a couple of suspensions for the Brisbane out of there but all in all is a very good game of footies to watch a favorite game of the weekend for sure. Okay, Guesty is obviously another year older but he put up another good score and it looks like he's going to have another stronger again but the round two buys obviously the big thing here is it just too expensive and he's just at that age we just you're not paying up that much to start the season with him and he's someone that will trade into rather than start. Yeah, I think that's kind of how you wrap it up I'm not I'm not a fan of trading him in just like we're not bringing in people like Wang or De Koss or players like that I mean he might go on a run where he's scoring 120's 130's I mean obviously that game did seem to be a little bit of an outlier in terms of how defensive and how many marks got taken. Yeah, I worry about his age I worry about his price I worry about the early buy and I'm looking for players you know in my side that I feel like they got a bit of value baked into him. Yeah, yeah well one of those players Connor Bouderick I think he's locked himself into all of our sides with that score I've been keen but I will shout out Jordy Jordy who's a lot listening out from London there you see was Kenan from the moment the preceding started he was keen on him so. He's the first one there and I know George also who's not on tonight and hopefully tomorrow night with our Q and A but he was also very keen early so yeah he's locked himself in along with a lucky J.C.'s locked himself in as well at least onto our benches but could be a D6 option maybe not with GOS round one even though he did score quite well against Brisbane but someone that is he's got to be in our sides to make a fair bit of cash but you got Ty Gallup who scored a 62 I think it was and Michael Selwood who also scored think about a 61 there their cheap rookies but they've now got the double price rise sort of in there in their price movement now going forward. So either of these guys interested they take maybe some may precedence over maybe say a Tom Blamere who's 2.30 cat hasn't played yet maybe it's a lucky doviston instead of like a tiger maybe go Gallup instead if they maybe moved up your order in terms of potentially selecting them to start the year. [BLANK_AUDIO] I think that's probably the biggest question I've got after opening around is how far I can push this cheat code. And like I didn't have cell wood or gallop really on my radar as players I was interested to start through all the preseason. But you know they are essentially a couple of 50 schools away from making about 120 grand between the two of them going into the next week. So they have to be considered. I'll probably start one of them, probably not two of them, but I'm fascinated if anyone's got strong opinions either way. I'm likely reasonable. I will go as far as saying if you're going to start Doviston who is a forward pocket who's priced up more, why wouldn't you start a tie-gall? You don't need them in round two. You have a guarantee good score that you're happy with. I don't think any of the round two forwards that you're really going to want to play in four. I think that tie-gallops almost are worth. And if you can do that without being put goals in that forward line, I don't think he gets dropped for dripper. I think he's in that forward line. I think that job security is good. I think he's just an absolute walk-up picking that forward line. If you're going with the three rookie option with DevRobon failed. If you've got no rookies on field, I think it's DevRobon Lombard and that's absolutely fine. Sellerwood is also in my side. Once again for the fact that it's got that score in the bank. However, he's around three plus five player and that is the struggle week. So it might be that we don't want to start another round three player because we're already having to cover half of our squad who have buys that round. So he's the one that is I need to work out the sums of buy rounds. But at the end of the day you could be trading this player out if they make quick cash and get off and get the rookie that you missed. There's not many round three by defenders. Obviously this is teammate Locky J. It's on your bench, but it might be some kind of work around that you might have. Pents only made the defender mids you have. There's maybe a midfielder or two that you might want and there's a job lot of forwards. So you might have a defender in your utility as well. Yeah, he is currently my utility. But yeah, it's, but if you've got room for him, there's definitely you can definitely go there. And the fact that barely deal played. I don't know if there's anybody definitive to come back into that back. Like the back. I was talking to Jake about this as well on Friday night him and shout at him and Caddy as well who two dogs fans. Yeah, I was chatting them and they think Sanders comes in and pushes Bayley Williams to defence, which is he played on the wing covering for Sanders. They reckon it sort of shuffles back, but you sort of wonder with winning into Brisbane. Maybe they weren't expecting to win. Maybe they were. But his assi Jones out his assi Jones out. I think there's enough value options across our team that are solid enough. And for me, like, you know, Rucky's determined your structure. And if you haven't got McAndre at R3, then who have you got there? What, Zaka, Teller, Koski, who, you know, probably might not even get a game next week. You know, CDT from the Eagles, which, you know, you might score 30s or 40s or something along those lines. I think, you know, just as much as we talk about, well, I know different coaches have different philosophies here, but I've always been of the kind of mindset of you want 30 green dots. I mean, you know, this last couple of years in particularly in fantasy, it's been a race to make money and finish your teams. And, you know, if you are not making money in that that Ruck 3 spot, you're effectively giving up a spot. And yes, I know we talk about having a red dot for, you know, the vice captain loophole, but, but, you know, apart from round one, you know, we've got, we're going to have red dots for the next few rounds after that. So, yeah, I don't want to give up the opportunity of making as much cash. In R3. So, for me, you know, there's only one R3 that can be picked and that, and that is the canjero. And so, that's where he slots in. Yeah. Yeah. If you had to pick one between the two, though, so if someone said pick one, who do you think it's going to be the pick? Who is it? I'm not sure what's happening guys. I can't hear you if you can hear me. We can hear you, but maybe I might have to get out and come back in. Yeah. Yeah. I think that might be the case. And I think Chase is left as well. So, got, got dramas happening at fantasy, fanatics HQ. So, just me and top now, we're in the GTO. If you had to pick one between the two, Tom, who would it be? Because boys put up low hundreds, but boys look good as well. Yeah. I think I then, I can't split them. So, then I think who am I going to be able to get cheaper? And I think that the run for the first half of the year for Tim English is slightly easier than the run for Brody Grondy. So, I'm going to go with English. If you're 10K short or of the difference in cash is between English and Grondy, I'm happy if you're to go to do the one. Quite honestly, if you like, I think English is one or two points better than Grondy this year, or at least for the first half of the year. But I've longed both of them as the can. So, I'm not against that in him. And that's what I saw from up there on Golden. The only thing you're doing is you're committing to, you're committing to playing with 20 if you have track, buddhary, long bat in your forward line and both English and Grondy. Because you can't cover both of those in the rooks and you can't cover three forwards on the buy. So, you're going to be guaranteed to bet 20, or you got to trade one of them. So, that's my only red flag about that setup. I'd do up to if you like playing 20. I'd rather play minimum 21. Yeah. Yeah, suddenly considered with his early buzzword because round three, so there's going to be round two, round three, certainly the tricky one there. And then Tase to finish it off, who would you pick between Grondy and English if you had to go one? I still like English's ability to get involved in transition more. He showed he had a game where he was being looked for for kick-ins and at all points in transition. And I just feel like he's going to have a real pop game. And he's about to enter a quite a juicy run, whereas Grondy has some more challenging fixtures over the opening weeks. It's only marginal. And I think if there was a player that I would really, really needed and the difference was exactly 40k or 39k, then I would be open to dropping down a Grondy. But I mean, I'm considering English's captain option for round one. And I don't see that for Grondy until about round four, but it's going to be a captain option. Yeah, yeah, not to good point there as well. I would just have one more thing. And the one reason I'm not really adding to what Tom said about not having two players in the buy. The other reason I don't really want to set and forget this year is we still haven't seen what the Ruck rules are going to do. And as soon as you set and forget, you kind of cut yourself out options for another Ruck loses a bunch of money for any reason. Let's say someone like someone like Rowan Marshall, you know, TDK could do an ACL next week. And then Rowan Marshall is going to come back in as a number one Ruck. And he's going to be priced at about 19, you know, three weeks time. And unfortunately you've got to miss out out on that opportunity because you've decided to set it to get. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, good point as well there, but I've been silenced a lot set and forget and it's something that I have a play around with in the structure as well. Compose, what we do goes the next game, Zayn Zakastewski. Guesty, is he someone to put on the bench? Because my worry with I've had to try really hard to get that correct. So many letters in that name that it's very hard to pronounce. But he, I think you know, something you know, yeah, I did, I'll put it that way because I had him sound the commentary. So I just made sure I remember where where I when I said, but then again, commentary, I don't always get it correct. So, but there you go. I put my face in the commentary from satellite night. But is Zayn someone to put it R3 on utility? My and my worry for I get to your thoughts guest is that as an R3, he just he's got Tom Harry, but I was about say Tom boy that's gone back a long way Harry boy of last year vibes about him at the R3 purple dot. He's going to be a emergency if he's not playing draper back this week. Is it just you'd better off going a red dot instead if you're going for him or going for as you say McCandry, maybe set and forget maybe it's a Vistantini R3, which you rather go for other options and there's just that worry that he becomes a purple dot annoying that you can't even look with him. Yeah, so I guess the reason why we're even considering him is because he had that 54. I mean, I think it looked good as well. Yeah, he did look good. And you know, I think this is what's going to make it really hard with him, right? Like because of the all the outs that Brisbane are going to have, that's a good strong chance that he might get another game and he might play more of a defensive role rather than the rock role considering the stocks that are coming back. 44% time on ground really worries me. I mean, it might be he might not even get named. And to some extent, it might be best for all involved if he doesn't get named because yeah, I can't see the scoring being that solid. I think his job security is pretty, pretty shaky. Once again, he might be one of these, he might be, you know, the kind of R3 that we put in there thinking it's, you know, it's going to, you know, solidify us or give us some kind of cover with, you know, those running mechanics are at R2, but I think it's a bit of a trap. Yeah, I'd rather go CDT at that point. If you do want some sort of cover because he's going to play, but I just don't know if the scoring is going to be there and the questionable job security. And final player that I taste. There is one thing I'm just just add with Zach is a kowski is that keep an eye on any any media about what what Brisbane are going to do to cover the gaps because they've got Jack Payne out Harris Andrews out for free games. I think garden is out for one or two. They're going to have spots to fill in the back line. And I think they don't have the extra defenders there. So there's a really good chance either Oscar Allen goes back behind the ball or Zach is a kowski goes goes and plays as a defender. So if they play the hand early. If they play the hand early in what which way they're going to go and see look we're going to we're going to stick him as a center half back for the next three weeks. Then I actually think it becomes a play that you could entertain. But until then there's too many moving parts. Yeah, I like how you said he's going twice and said it differently twice. That's absolutely hilarious. But yes, Zach Esteltski is probably someone we're not going to be looking at well terms of my own side anyway. And final part of this game is a lot of relevant players Tom from this game. Hidi Coleman. He went 20 points above his price that he had the half back role. But it wasn't as fruitful as say a few years ago when there was no Jasper and no will want back there obviously Zorco is was that his absolute peering on Salo night. So that's a worry is it was just not enough for you and you rather watch another game and maybe jump on after his early boy. Yeah, as guess he said Rookie D'Fan just Rookie's D'Fan just structure and he's taking up a cheap pretty fat cheaper defender slot. And I think we've got plenty of defenders who I think will score very similar to him at two 300 care cheaper. So I it's a nerve from me. If you had a forwards there, it's pretty a completely different question. But as a defender, not for me. Yeah, agreed. And Lucas Cactus apologies for the way on that we're just getting to discussion. So a quick sort of answer from everyone. So I'm going to go all like Sinclair and what I saw on the weekend, which had about him so I'm Sinclair just with the questions around Essendon's midfield. Guesty, Colwell or Sinclair? Yeah, I think I'm a bit worried about how many players are going to be running through that Essendon midfield. So although once again, I'm not sure that I think we've, you know, we might be wearing some rose colored glasses because of Sinclair's preseason. I'm not sure that there's the upside there. I mean, maybe there is because Wang's more moving more into the center of the ground. But yeah, I'm not sure how that's going to play out either. Yeah, Dave. I'll go the dissenting view. I think Colwell is the better player. He's shown the upside. I think Jackson Claire is kind of, he is what he is. He is what is priced at. He always has pop scores where he'll go 120 and he'll throw in two weeks of 90. And that's how he regresses back to that mean of about 100 to 104. And he's going to be sitting around there. And he has a bike. And he has some tough fixtures coming up as well. Yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, I might change my to Colwell as well. I think I'm just getting cold feet with we call what I'll go call was well Tom. My worry about Sinclair's role as well is how content. Nass was kept. Because there's always that lever just to throw Nass back behind the ball. And go back to last year's status quo and all that upside of Sinclair getting all the kickoff, the vast majority kick out, it's being the number one distributed back there. The maybe it's Houston we don't have a problem because he was very very good. With 120 points racked up the bowl. And I think the big thing for me was that calling would all preseason we've heard. Them say we want to get Houston the ball. We want it in his hands. And he's been a 90 plus guy in previous years. And I think that this is just. I think he's locked in now. I think you said it in a group chat. He scores an 80 goes up like 90 K. And worst case is you could trade him after we take the cash. Jen and move over to a. A player that you don't start with that's in that sort of 800 sort of K price range for a defender. But I think he's going to be someone that they're going to want the ball in his hands. I think he goes over 80 this year. And I'm there. He's in my side. I can't see that moving. The only way it would move is I'm going to start to go. J costs instead of Houston for a similar reason. A similar price point. This is much. I see this is more chance to turn out as the lucky aspect from last year. The same tail. Like we also how about the same tail of it was because he went and average is 50 after his after his box going around one. But we also forget what the ass went huge in round zero and ended up being a top 60 defender. So there was the opposite. He also stuck in round one. However, if Houston's things have been around one, he will be out of my side. And that is the only negative thing off there about Houston is I hate his run. It his run for the first fall is Adelaide by GWS Brisbane. Which is pretty stinky. So I'm almost seeing it as a. I'm happy starting with him. Clorough plan is probably to trade into the player that. You know, read either in a restructure of that I miss the cash removal. And if he pops great, I'll keep it. Like that's kind of where I'm at with the thing. and I think I'm okay with that. I'm not planning too far down the road. And if I have to start a Dan Houston who's up is 90 plus three times in the last four years. And price at 67, I think that's a good. Yeah. So that's kind of where I'm at. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Look at this. I think that you've got so many parachute options there. You got a new man coming back in round three, although the buyers don't really line up that well. You got a Caleb Windsor. You know, might not have him in your side. And then, you know, I think someone that's kind of, we haven't talked much about, he's not in the run sheet. Maybe we'll do him more in the listener player requests. But how are we all feeling about Colby McCurcher? Yeah. Well, I did want to save him for the end. So we'll retut. We'll touch wait. Just touch touch on him now because you brought up Guesty. So what are your thoughts on Colby? Oh, look, I mean, we would have really liked to have seen him play. I mean, he's coming in around one and we don't, you know, we haven't seen him at all in the preseason really. So that's not normally, you know, you normally want players with a good strong preseason and players that have had, you know, an interrupted preseason, you normally fade. I mean, I think now Houston offers a little bit of a potentially a parachute option where you can maybe make 150 K over the first two rounds and then potentially you might even be able to restrate well for a McCurcher. Yeah. Yeah. I think the positive with McCurcher is it hasn't been a soft tissue injury. So he's still been able to do his running and still keep up that sort of match fitness. But yes, it would have been great to have seen him in a praki game. And I think you got pulled out late from the VFL game. I think that from what of sort of seen and heard from North Milner can't sort of definitely say, but I think it was more the fact that they want him chair right for around one. So it's I think he probably would apply if it was if it was North Melbourne's actually I felt pain pain last week. So Tom Tyser. But that's why they named him to give him a run. Right. And then they put him out. It just I think they got spooked around Wardlaw. I think they're playing Wardlaw in the VFL, then in re-entry himself. I think they got spooked and when we can't do this twice to our two top five draft picks in the last three years, I think we've just got a I've still got him, but I see that as a possible play. I'm not quite sure if the coin quite lines up that you're going to need a bit of extra coin. If you've got coin the bank to clad. If you've got 100K in the bank to do it next week, assuming Colby doesn't go absolutely ballistic against bot, which is a sur-sur-matchup, it's definitely an option up into us. But I think I'm confident starting him, but I'm very hot on him. I think he could be a top-sec defender this year. I think the role really really suits his style. And we've seen that kind of style play at do very, very well already. This is interesting this first five games. So I'm pretty I'm probably hot with the most uncolby, but I can completely understand if people want to fade it and watch it. And Houston might be aware to do that. Or he's just, it's a very busy. Yeah, exactly. Taze your quicksauce just because a lot of people in our live chat are asking about Colby. Yeah, look, I'm still pretty keen on Colby. It's a finger injury, so it's not going to affect his running. He might be a little bit out of touch, but he gets a lot of his points just from getting a handball received that he can take on the chest and running out and kicking it. So I think he'll be all right. If he can, if they name him, he'll be all right. Yeah, yeah, I'm still keen on him as well. He's still sitting there for me. Obviously, Dasey can put up a good score could be unique. Do you go for it as a rock, but I do think that we probably do have those two in grande and English ahead of Dasey Cameron. So I'd probably go for one of those two instead, but he could go both because Dase Cameron, you might, you could have a few points upside if he does take more of those in the set marks like he has done for number of years, but I'm probably more keen of starting one of those other two guys. Flans, I think locked themselves in at quarter time. Or half way through the first quarter, a lot of people were maybe thinking, what does my team look like with no flanders, but he showed why he's, while we've been so keen on him and since the start, when he when he got traded to St. Kielder, so he has locked in, and Jack Carroll locked himself in, I think he can be played on field as well with that pretty nice role when St. Kielder's back line, they do like shipping the ball around back there. So yeah, I think he's someone that's got to be locked in at least on your bench. I think Naz probably ruled himself out, which is probably the, on the other hand, annoying because he was so highly on, I was thinking, well, might get that leg up with him being so expensive, but a lot of people are now not going to start him, but that is the positives and negatives of opening grounds. There you go. Mateis, Philopoe, before we get onto the two sort of big dogs in for Collingwood Taze, did he do enough to still be picked, or with the fact that we've got a few forwards to pick, is he maybe a fade potentially now with the buy? I think because he didn't score as much as most of us would have liked, is no longer in a must-have pick. You know, if he'd, if he'd add 80 plus, then that's in must pick territory with the role. I'm still pretty happy with the role. I'm still pretty happy with his performance. He didn't feel all the stat lines, but he can. Yeah, I think I think I'll probably fade him at least to start, but I liked that there's a parachute option there if someone else like, let's say we get into round one or two and Richelle just doesn't quite have the role there. I think I'd be okay dropping down to to a Philopoe. Yeah, really good point. Yep, I like that for sure. So yeah, I think he's someone that few people still hold, but a few people might jump off and look for another option there in the forward line. Now, Guesty, anyone can be tempted by a big score and opening round. And I know that as well as anyone, but the two day cost brothers absolutely racked up and I know Colin Good did rack up a lot of points, but that, I wonder if that could be a game style shift. I know you mentioned me about that. I wonder if that's trying to emulate a bit of Brisbane, trying to control a little bit more could be something there, but obviously Nick 136, Josh dagos 141, is either of them being potential thoughts for you for starting even with the early buy with the fact they've got that massive score when the magic numbers are the highest, they're not going to now drop anywhere near as much if not they're going to increase a bit. Either the day cost brothers made their way into Guesty's jirbles. No, I haven't thought about them at all during the preseason really. I mean, obviously we all going to probably want to have Nick in our sides by seasons in, but you know, there's obviously also a lot of consumer. It comes to him getting attention during a game as well. Look once again, it's probably one of those players that maybe less practice coaches might kind of flash by the name and attracted that way, but yeah, look, and there was talk about Josh take us in the preseason, but that talk was all around his role change and he moving more into the midfield and with him sort of continuing to stay back, I'm not sure that he's going to be more than that kind of 95, you know, sort of defender. So there's not really a lot of value baked in early buys another problem we've got with both of them. Yeah, I just nothing that's that's, you know, taken my fancy there. Yeah, yeah, and the thing, the trigger thing and Tom, you mentioned before with Josh though, so obviously shares the buy with Houston. So you could maybe go Josh over Houston, but I think Houston's got that that value on his head if you need that extra couple hundred K there. So it could be something that you do consider. We talked about Jack Sinclough for obviously good score. I think that the role B does think of it numbing guy in there, but as time you mentioned, there is that chance of of Nassau going back into the fence at any point. Maybe that's another lever they pull. So is that probably enough for you to maybe just go so expensive for the run? I don't know if you've seen the sink here to run the star, but much like calling was actually pretty awful to begin with it. Got Brisbane, GOS and Port Adelaide in their first force that they got Melbourne next week, which is good. Well, this week, but after that, it gets tricky. Is that just enough for you to go? He'll be someone I'll target at some point, but maybe not to start with. Yeah, I found it really hard. And another name from this team who had a half back role, oh, from this game, I'm going to half back role map as Wind Hager is another one who is he's in the mix. If we're doing this nice for all good start. Watching the customer running around to doing what everyone did, watching Josh take us running around doing what everyone had makes you want them. I just can't see. I can't see games at me that one contested going well. Like sure, like there was an inordinate amount of maps taken in that game. Both teams just let each other have it in defensive half. Like it was, I just can't see. I feel sucked in and if the if the score gets back to what we're expecting around that 95 to one of five maps, how are we going to is it going to be better picked when we've not really been considering more prices. And this is the crime. This is the difficulty of opening around the suppose is even though it's real funny is sent. I would go back to 2024 where you just kept an and a half back again sent Kiel because it's not letting happen every week. Yeah. Yeah. Houston is different because he's value and we see that there where he's these other guys, yeah, cheaper and like Sinclair and Dekos are still expensive into defense. So maybe you don't go there but like Nick as well, people, people, people are going to be tempted by that as well and obviously with that massive score but with that early buy especially round two that makes it really hard particularly when we're looking at Walsh's process 93 as an option, Tana Brune and Jagger Smith all in there. A lot of people are going to have at least two of them if not three it makes a trickier start a Nick Dekos price that well over 110 or pretty much around that mark and Ryan Marshall as well the one obviously Taze mentioned before as well when you talk about the rucks there but can cast a hill missed this week and he could be someone that we get at a cheaper price in a in a fold only round six because it looks like he's going to get folds as but he won't score well to begin with. So I think you've scored better than that but he won't scoring very particularly well so just a watch on him for the next few weeks there as well. There's a lot of questions in the live chat. Caleb Windsor is someone I've considered most of the most of the preseason but he's he's just stopped himself short of being a lock because the role's there but he's fantasy scoring just hasn't been there he's a guy who average 70 odd as a junior 70 odd in the VFL just you know what does he have to average to be a good pick maybe it's 70 but I think I think 75 or in east to have rich and I think Dan Houston is a brilliant placeholder have a look at Windsor round one if Windsor goes well round one you can litch him out. Yeah that's yeah that's where I am. Yeah no like it well we I think we got Taze back as well so it did freeze for a second there Tommy Garders got this one he's saying he's asking about Sam Lawler because we didn't obviously mention the mid price discussion guesty any interest in a Sam Lawler or is he someone that I know Selvers as mentioned a few times a few people so maybe is he someone that we watch and jump on if we want to jump really by player. Well I think I think we're a lot of these kind of players like even with a Windsor we talked about economic Don but I don't think they're going to kill you right there if they're going to be good picks for the season you can watch him for at least a week or two. My worry with Sam Layler is he's got more of that dusty role which is they want him more he's more of an impact player you know we saw that in a couple of games from him last year where he really kind of took the grain by the scruff of the neck and did well for Richmond I think that's how I think that's what they're trying to kind of recreate there as well so look he's going to have some CBAs but I don't know that they're going to be high enough to make him a must-have pick but once again if you're hot on him I don't I think he's undervalued it's just a question by how much we'll see how he goes. Yep I agree with that. Will Bight was asking about the R2 about Bacandria R2 leaving that for tomorrow night because that would be probably one of the most things we start off with because that's probably a big talking point with a lot of our study squads is are we going him R2 or is the R3 and going for a more expensive guy. Last couple here I would also assume to you from Tim Asher I've must have missed that four thank you mate he's asking about Winhager or Parish so Tom will go to you because you mentioned Winhager. Could you go him over Parish? I don't think it's all I think it would be and I think Parish is just a lot and price at 72 guy that would have over 100 people just lock that one away. Winhager is a very very interesting one if you're going a bit cheaper in the midfield and paying up for a couple of these defenders who have gone pop then that's it's definitely a play as I mentioned with I don't as we've all mentioned I don't love their run and he has a buy so I'm parish over Winhager but you could do both. It's two good scores Bacandria back. Yeah one is already in that in that game against the bombers in the in the preseason and then obviously 100 and 16 break even is 26 here but we've probably closed it but it's going to be like near 900k so he's expensive right if you're using the 700s I'd be a lot more keen but 860 is a really awkward price like it's only 90k away from say Sam Walsh if you're tossing up between those two I think I'd rather go well probably the more locked in guy but Winhager probably will get defender status if he's going to keep this role so it could be someone that does have that real big break out so it could be an option but just a bit awkward price for mine. One more go with here guess I'll go to you Todd Marshall is what Lee's asking about with that good early run obviously scored the 80 in the preseason could it be someone even chuck it say NF7 and and maybe that's the question. Send this one to Taze he might have a better answer than I do. You're up Taze. Look at what Marshall someone I am definitely considering I think if he's in that role as the intercepting the kind of James Sussley type roaming third man defender I think he can score I think his floor is probably about 60 and he is sealing could be 75 so I'm interested. Yeah yeah it might be possibly for me as well and yes I probably should have asked Taze that one because guess he was on a holiday when poor did place that my fault for throwing a 60 win he wouldn't watch the gap. But that will not. Not I mean I'm not as keen as I think he could I think that floor could be as low as 45 50. I'm not sure it's an intercept a role. I it could it could just be the second key back along with a layer.
