Ohio State's going to beat Texas, Mention. Okay. That's dear. We're leading with our picks. Yeah. But I'm linked because I just got done watching the tape. Texas has the better roster. Texas has the better quarterback. Ohio State has the better football team. I just wanted to start with it because it's fresh on my mind. Good for you. I hate that I think I agree with you. I want to fight back. I know. I know. Let's dig into it. By the way, this was a challenge and I think that's what makes it fun. Is that this is hopefully this plays out the way I think it's going to be and this is going to be like, just knock out fight. So we decided as we had a production call the other day and how do we break this down a little different from everybody else because everyone's covering Texas, Ohio State. Just stay in our lane, right? We're going to watch the tape. We know the players coming in. We watched, I mean, hours upon hours of tape from last year. Some different faces. Obviously, many in both cases, obviously massive turnover on that defense for Ohio State. Watch the first week take it for what it is, considering opponents, right? And kind of report back to our audience of what we're seeing and what we think. Let's go down. Let's just start off the top quarter back. Who you got? I went arch. I'm same as you, obviously, I was surprised by this. I know it's Texas State. I was really encouraged by his patients. I thought he was more accurate. And then if you look over the last stretch, I think of his maybe eight or six games, he's really turned the corner. He's playing better. And then on top of that, you throw in the mobility. He's way more of a threat with his legs. I know Ohio State fans. I saw Julian saying when moving around the pocket a little bit and rushing for a touchdown against ball state. And he is, I don't think he's a bad athlete. But there is a vast difference between he and arch in terms of their ability to make plays with their feet. I will say this saying did remind me last week with that performance about how efficient he can be and how he can spread the ball around and get the ball to his playmaker. So it's not like this was an easy decision, but in the game where I think both offensive lines might have some problems, I'm going to take the guy with better mobility and a player that I think is ascending. Julian saying is the perfect fit. He's a better fit for Ohio State than maybe arch. I think he's a perfect fit there. I think they've got weapons. I think there's no one like Jeremiah Smith, even Malachi Tony, because of the size separation of the two, there's nobody like him. And the way they want to be efficient in the passing game and obviously they come out and I was thrilled to see that they let it rip, but was it 320 passing yards for Julian saying the efficiency that you talk and the two things I said in the scouting report this summer that I wanted to see from Julian saying because I knew it was in him more aggressiveness down the field. We saw some flashes of that. The Jeremiah Smith deep ball, he saw the matchup against the safety of the cat blitz corner blitz coming off the edge and right to it. No concern. Put the ball up. Receiver go make a play and his receiver goes in and makes a Jeremiah Smith play contested defender hanging from them, catches it against his helmet one handed like see you later. And then the second part was I wanted to see some more some more mobility. This is where we differed on the saying the saying scouting report. I know there's more there's more juice in his legs than what he showed as a freshman. And I think we saw a little flash of that. And I think he's like you said he's going to have to show a little bit more of that. However, Sorkas never what there's a difference here though. I mean, you could say that Julian saying it moved around a little bit. Yes. I said there's more there's more juice in those legs than we saw as a freshman. He doesn't have arches juice, arches when he takes off running. That was the biggest revelation. I know he's a good runner. I know he's a good athlete. I watched every game just like you did. And just like everyone who's watching or listening to this show. But when I watched the tape and I went back over the summer without ever a hundred different things going on and eyes on draft prospects and what's going on with our journey. And I just sat back and watched it peacefully like holy shit, man. When he take like that acceleration is different. But with arch the thing that I saw what you saw, there's a synchronization there. We like to call it eyes married defeat. Well, your feet can't get married with your eyes. If your eyes aren't, you don't have great conviction of where your eyes should be. That was the downfall early last season and specifically against Matt Patricia. That defense with three guys in the top 11 drafted and seven overall drafted from that defense a year after eight were drafted. And going on the road to Columbus. That was that was like the old to be over sell this arch thing in Texas. And it didn't get that much better. There were signs of it. But it took about a half a season as you alluded to for us to see, okay, there's been improvement. But even at the end of the season, there were mistros. There were feet not married with his eyes. There wasn't that balance and everything's connected like when you, he's such a better athlete than Fernando Mendoza and such as such better speed than Fernando Mendoza that I hate to even compare the two. But the comparison I'm making here and follow me is too long levered tall long legs, long armed guys in the pocket. The thing that made Fernando so great in college and we'll carry over with him to the NFL. And I said it during our lead up to last year's draft. Fernando was and Brady would became the same and guys who have a lead accuracy. You have to have this repetitive motion where one golf swing doesn't look different than the next, right, unless it's a different club, different situation. But when you're like standing there with your seven iron or whatever it is and you're like that seven iron always looks the same. And so Fernando for a long levered guy was just so repetitive, he was almost robotic and I said that in a positive way. Arch isn't, but Arch showed a lot in that first game we'd see against Texas State, a lot more of it and sizable improvement from a year ago, which is going to be critical. That's the next step in his evolution. You can't have open receivers and he's going to have a few of them this year with Wingo and Coleman on the perimeter. You can't have open receivers and miss by the margins he missed last year at times. And so I was encouraged by that now that interception he throws locking onto a receiver. Because like I know if I want to take off five pounds, I'm going to put, I'm going to make sure I get to bed at a certain time, I'm going to make sure I'm asleep by a certain time. I get X amount of hours of sleep, I get up in the morning and I have something sensible for breakfast. I'm going to get X amount of workout in. I'm going to like eat a certain amount of calories, like I know how to do those things and I've done them throughout my life. But old habits will rear their head, their ugly heads, right? And now I'm in the summer and we like to barbecue and stay up a little bit later and all of a sudden you wake up and it's like, gosh, that five pounds I lost, I put on seven. It doesn't mean I don't know how to do it. But I've got to prove to myself first I can and then I've got to make it this repetitive thing that I drill in and that it becomes a you just don't know how else to live besides the healthy way. It just becomes like and you look back you're like how how did I not live like this for you know what I mean? And so when you see him lock on to a receiver or his eyes don't go where they should or he doesn't go through progressions and look off of safety it's not because he doesn't know how to and it might not be that he didn't show it show the positives throughout the entire game. It might just be an ugly habit that kind of rears its head and you learn from it and you continue the development. That's what I saw against Texas State but now it's a whole different animal this week but if you're asking me which one I want to go to war with and if you and if you tell me the roster's the same you got one of these quarterbacks I'm taking arch. All right running back where are you going? I think this is the biggest advantage across the board and it's Ohio State. Look like yeah I don't even I honestly don't think it's close to be honest with you I like Holly with some others and I like Relic Brown. I think some others is instinctive he's explosive you know he's tough he's going to make guys miss in the hole but it's the same thing with him and Brown it's the same church different pew a little bit but they are smaller backs they're both sub two hundred pound backs and they are not guys that can just get downhill run over people grind out tough yards that's not what they do. Ohio State has three of those guys in Bo Jackson, Jacobi Jackson and Isaiah West all those guys are in the 215 to 225 range those are the guys that can get downhill wear out a defense over the course of the game heavy workload and then you're going to add in a guy you're gonna add in legend Bay who with you get him in space is just an absolute weapon who can just do scary things who he could really just change the complexion of a game with a handful of touches to me I think the Texas has some nice backs I think Ohio State has a significant advantage in this area. I wouldn't say I'm not push I went with Ohio State as well and as I watch them you can see what's going to translate to big boy football in this game specifically which one has a little bit more versatility like I gave the edge I mine was more slight to be honest like I like Hollywood's mothers I do too I think he I think he's a good player I like what you know he hit 70 yards 10 carries last week relic brown comes in 11 carries two touchdowns kind of one catch consistent with a complimentary role you know yeah compliment one another I don't like how they're third option Derek Cooper who's kind of their big short yardage back is out with a an ankle sprain so that that kind of hurts that depth and that specific role I think they have depth there with brown but they don't they're not really compliments they're the same kind of it's the same kind of flavor man it's the same kind of back when they come in and again I like them I just don't see them as these guys that are going to get downhill on you and grind it out and you always say to me what's it what makes a good back or what's an important part about a backs evaluation that and that is what could he create on his own and they can create with their feet and making some guys miss but if you square up to these dudes and you tackle with correct form like they're not going to these are not guys are going to overpower you they're not guys are going to consistently push the pile they need a little bit of a crease to be truly effective and again this is a game that I think both offensive lines are going to be really challenged I like Ohio State's backs ability just to get squared pick up three to four yards maybe some others hits a 25 yard run maybe hits a 30 yard run but for the rest of the game he's average is like two two two and a half yards per Gary that's going to be a problem like he's just not a back that's built to you know bring his own block kind of a guy where Ohio State has three of those dudes I I I'm glad you correct me complimentary was not the right word I meant like they both do the same thing and so when one's out because they're not these big bruises and you want to kind of keep them fresh to have the the speed element the other guy comes in and in you you're basically I'm not saying you're getting the same level of but you're getting the same type of back with Ohio State what I like is the their depth and I mean we're basically saying the same thing I was encouraged a little bit by Jacobi Jackson who comes in eight carries 83 yards and a touchdown 22 snaps he played had that 49 yard touchdown run I don't that's the thing to me those Ohio state backs have some Jews too they're not you know they're not those elusive yeah Bo Jackson broke off a 65 yarder like those guys can move too but the the wild cardinal of this maybe the wild card player in this game is is this legend bay because yeah I mean he's going to make a mistake he might go the wrong way he might get tripped up he might dance a little bit but if we get him five seven touches in this game one or two of them might be impactful it could be a highly impactful agree so I'm really curious on a side note like how are they using him are we gonna see two backs in the backfield we're gonna see him move to the slot is it too early in the season is a true freshman to start utilizing this toy in all the different ways they want to or were they being a little coy in in their utilization of I mean that 25 yard touchdown catch was just kind of a you know an outlet into the flat and you go go see what you can do bud um and he's gonna make mistakes and we saw that but but there's a dynamic L he's he's he's a supercharged curve curve to Samuel if you're on Ohio state fan that's what he is yeah all right why why'd receiver this one's interesting I mean the whole premise is like who would you want if like you're the general you're playing gym naggies roll or or Andrew Luxor who have picked your pick your GM across college football these days and you gotta you gotta go to your person else or you're the head coach and he's like you just get to choose who would you want which group would you want Texas wide receivers or Ohio state wide receivers this one is bird I wrote my notes like I plead the fifth I don't really want to go I'm not a big B on the fence kind of guy but I I feel very comfortable on the fence on this one that said that's not the game that's not what we do I'm taking Ohio State despite the fact that I think the two of the top three receivers in this game are going to be playing for Texas I think that uh obviously Jeremiah Smith I think it's the best receiver in the country no offense to Malakitoni and Miami no offense to Cam Coleman at Texas but after that I think the Coleman's a second best in this game and then I think that Ryan Wingo from Texas is the third best at least the third most talented the reason I give the nod to Ohio State is that I think Jeremiah Smith is elite he is on a different level and I think they're deeper this kid Dev McEwan who comes over from UTSA has really nice start I think he's I don't think he's as talented as those other guys but he's going to be in the right place he's going to catch the ball I think that Chris Henry Jr is a guy that is a true freshman didn't have a huge impact last week but has the talent to go off in any game he's just a guy that you don't be surprised if you see some eight for 100 it catches for a hundred yard games I think you can do that then you have brain and NS you're gonna add to that there's just the depth that Ohio State has there is I think one of the separating factors in this and they'll say the other thing about this is I loved what Wingo did last week I was really impressed with the tape and I am really encouraged and hope that he continues to play at that level but we've seen him in the past with the inconsistencies and a little bit of the up and down play and going into this game I don't know if one game is enough for me to get over that I'm still a little bit concerned about it and when it's tight like this and I think it's really tight I think it makes a difference I think Ohio State gets the nod yeah I want to this is kind of it's become boring a boring watch because there's no heavy debate here the tape don't lie man it don't lie it honest here's here's my honest answer if McEwen didn't show me what McEwen showed me last week and then I hadn't talked to a scout and I hadn't then after that conversation via text with the scout gone back and watch some UTSA and not only saw what he was but kind of a little bit more juice not a little more athleticism a little bit more aggressiveness it just in one game and the reports of like his transformation in that Ohio State offseason program all that I might have leaned Texas because it's hard to get two guys that got that and I like what's his name in the third receiver for Texas MMO's MMO's MMO's MMO's MMO's MMO's I like all three of them I just there's only one Jeremiah Smith man and when you need to play in a moment now I will say this Texas has done a nice job the last two years we'll get to this later of of keeping Smith under wraps it's a different defense though with Will must champ and so that that's a storyline not to overlook in this game because Texas was play off his own coverage give him a give him a catch come up wrap him up no verticals all that must champs a little more aggressive they're they're there could be some opportunities, right? And so I'm looking to see if Ohio State can pick its spots, create a mismatch, find a one-on-one and try to take advantage of that vertical ability. I just, there's, for all these great players on both rosters, all these great players were taught. This is the best year of talent, maybe in the history of college football, truly, he's the best. - Yeah. - And then, and then give me, and you give me Anis, and they're good players, they're nowhere near a wingo, talent-wise. - No. - But I'll take the best in all of college football, now that I know McEwen is the guy that people were kind of warning me of coming into the year. - It's funny, I was watching the Texas Texas State tape, and I kind of forget the must-champs there. And then I see what they're running and what the looks they were throwing at Texas State, I was like, wait a second, this is a little different than what I'm seeing on a Texas. Now, I wonder, I do wonder how that translates into this game, 'cause it's one thing to do it against them. It's another thing to do it against Ohio State. And I wonder if we see a little more zone in that game. But it is something to keep an eye on, I agree with you. - All right, defensive line, who would you want? Who would you choose? - Ohio State again. I get, look, Con Simmons, the Texas Edge, is the best pass-for-sture in this game, 21-Sex, over the last two seasons. And if I am Ohio State, I am losing a lot of sleep this week because they got a prominent offensive tackle. They haven't issued an offensive tackle, and you have Con Simmons coming after you this week. In Austin, it should be pretty loud there. Good luck, man. That's gonna be a tough match up for them. But when I look at the whole of Ohio State, I see Kenyatta Jackson making a jump, physical, run defender, physical pass-for-sture, and the thing that really jumped out to me and watching the tape, and we'll see. But I just look at his body type. The true freshman carried wilder from Ohio State looks like he is going to be a problem. And yes, again, I know it was ball state, and we'll see. But just watching the tape, I felt like, wow. This kid's gonna play, he's doing things like rushing between the tackles, rushing off the edge. I'm interested to see how Texas handles him this week. And overall, look, these two programs that had some really good defensive tackles, right? I mean, you look at Byron Murphy, you look at Tavandrey Sweat from Texas on the other side. You see Kaden McDonald, Tyler Williams at Ohio State. I don't see those defensive tackles yet. Maybe there are guys on the roster that they're gonna elevate to get to that level. I don't see that. So when you look at the whole picture, I see Ohio State is a little bit deeper. And I think that they are a more physical group. As much as I like Colin Simmons getting after the quarterback, I'm not sure he's that stout of a run defender at times. I think Colin Simmons is an absolute fucking dog, man. I think Colin Simmons. Yeah, groups stout fine, but get off of blocks, play off the ball, put play side to side. Is it great player? I went slight edge Texas here. And I hear you on the interior. Texas has got some guys, man. They're gonna keep getting better. A hero canoe, Alex January, Maraud Watson, Justice Terry. I think it's a little bit of a wash in the inside and maybe a slight edge to Ohio State, but not dissimilar from my mindset of, I'll take Jeremiah Smith and a couple really good players. Yeah. Wingo. There's one guy that can blow this thing up and it's Colin Simmons. And by the way, watch out for the breakout player. Jackson on the other side. I like Lance Jackson. Former five star, this is gonna be his year. I think Lance Jackson has a chance like with the attention given to Colin Simmons to have a breakout year. I would keep a close eye on him in this game. So I broke it down to categories. Best player is Colin Simmons and that's a landslide. Best edge tandem is Simmons and Lance Jackson. I like Kenyatta, Jackson for Ohio State. He's a really good powerful football player, but I wanna see him in this game make impact plays and like one six on our draft board, the other's 44, you know. So that's a significant edge for two experienced players. And then so best edge tandem is clearly Simmons and Lance Jackson, proven past rush, Texas. Interior upside, Ohio State. I agree with you. Yep. The general depth, slightly Ohio State, full ceiling, like developmental, full season developmental ceiling. I would, I couldn't argue for Ohio State if you want. But like draftable, absolute studs, edge tandem, past rush, all that, it's definitely Texas. And certainty for me going into this game, it would be Texas. All right, last one, they get to not. I don't know if I'm too jacked up about Wilder, but I'm telling you, man, I'm watching that tape last week. And that was the only tape we have of the kid. Keep an eye on him. Number 34 in this game. I mean, he is. Yeah, keep an eye on him. Last one. Sark or day, if you got to choose one head, one head coach for this game on Saturday, this game. Not a season, not a national team, for this game, which one is it? Day, I think Ryan Day, people, I just think that people think that Ryan Day was given this on a platter, because he inherited this program from Urban Meyer, that was really already running at a high level. And you're just going to get so much talent at Ohio State. When you think about Ryan Day, what he's had to do in terms of replacing coordinators, in terms of replacing players have gone under the draft and reloading and just coming back every single year and competing. He's won a national championship. He is a great offensive mind. I don't know, for some reason, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I just, you know, Ryan Day doesn't need me to get his back. But it feels like people overlook this dude a little bit and I don't get it. I just don't get it. He is a national championship head coach. He continuously rebuilds this program after losing talent. And so to me, I'm taking Ryan Day. And look, Sark is a great coach and I fully expect him to win a national championship before it's all set and done. But there have been times where I've thought over the last couple of years where he has, I don't know, maybe just, maybe their times are in the quen yours year or it felt like maybe you should get away from yours. If there's been times where I felt like he's gotten conservative on offense to try to protect his quarterback, it's just there's been, I think there's been some question marks with Sark. I had a feeling you were going to go this way. And I'm not saying I disagree. But I do think that there's, when you, I think if we did a consensus on this, it might be like 90-10 Ryan Day for obvious reasons, right? I do want to remind people though, and I'll play devil's advocate for you. I want to remind people of A. Y. Sark is there at Texas and B. Why he's considered amongst his peers and people who know what they're talking about as one of the best coaches in all of college football. Let me give you five things that I think people need to keep in consideration. And I think four of them are basically four of this game. And one of them is like, let's not overlook what happened in the past and maybe one or two of them are. So let's start there. Like this one's finally in Austin. Last year was in Columbus, 14 to seven. That Columbus game, this is my point too. Yeah, they both had similar experience in terms of quarterbacks coming in as RedShirt, Sophomores, Archon, Saiyan. First year's full-time starters. In fact, Archon started two games, I think, right? However, Sark had to take his guy on the road. And Sark had to take his guy against Matt Patricia, right? And so like, and Sark had to do it against a Matt Patricia defense that they hadn't seen before. Matt Patricia was coming in as a first. So like, this is not only Matt Patricia. It's not only Columbus. But it's Patricia the first time around, without any tape from earlier in the season to see what he's trying to do with that Ohio State talent. And I want to remind people that eight guys got drafted off the unit before the 2025 season. And so it was mostly new faces starting. And those new faces turned out to be even better than the group that year before. There were seven guys drafted from last year's starting 11. Three of them in the top 11 with re-styles and downs. And so that was a pickle. I mean, you were walking in here. Is that what you would call it? I would call it a nightmare, not a pickle. Yeah, I mean, yeah, you got jumped in an alley, man. You did a shot. Like, let's regroup next year. Let's bring some friends. Let's have a fair fight. I always sort of Frank D. Files boys. Yeah, bring him bring him machete to a machete fight. You know, that was one of his lines. Yeah, they brought a butter knife to a machete fight last year. You know, and it's still 14 to seven. The end of good fellow is when he thinks he's getting made and he walks into the room and he's like, oh, I thought Mark Spanning, everything's going to be great at Texas. And all of a sudden he realizes that they're, you know, he's going to get a blow in the back of the head. Now you can't, now you can't leave. Yeah, third point. And it's still going back to last year's game like Texas wasn't tactically overwhelmed last year. I just gave you all the things that were working against Texas in that game. It was 14 seven, but Texas outgained. He's sarks the offensive coach. Texas outgained Ohio State, 336 yards to 203. Everyone forgets that point. That's interesting. I don't, I forget that point. Texas had 16 first downs Ohio State at 11. Texas rushing yards 166 Ohio State 77. Texas ran 67 plays to Ohio State's 54. They went one for five Texas did on fourth down two failures inside Ohio State's 10. So like, let's not act as if it's definitely Ryan Day here. One the last two games close. You know what I mean? Because these are two offensive, these are two offensive coaches. One actually got the better of the other. It just didn't happen to be the winner last year. Sark now has come. This is the part that I like for Sark. He now has two complete games of answers that semi final game. And last year's opener, the semi final game, they only rushed for 58 yards, right? Texas it last year, they fixed it. They controlled the yard. So they learned from game one. Now he's got two games to learn from. Okay. Texas's inability to score inside the 10 decided difference in both games. So now it's like, we know what we have to do controlling the ball. We've got to be able to run the football inside inside the 10. We've got to be whether it's more creative. We have to have a better plan red zone, but especially inside the 10 in those opportunities. Like there are things to garner from that. Not saying Ryan Day and his staff don't, but I just I like Sark now with those two defeats and learning from and showing from game one to game two. This is the third opportunity now. And I just like Sark, one game, schematical and Ryan Day has had to because that job forces you to become a CEO because of all of the entails and it kind of does the Texas normally. It kind of does, but Sark has maintained his offensive, his role offensively there and has is like, I just, I don't know. I have the most, we've known Ryan Day since played in college when he was at UNH. I've known Chip Kelly was talking to me about Ryan Day back in like 20 or 2005 or seven. I was doing game day stuff out there. I've known Chip forever. Urban Meyer and I, you know my relationship with Urban, I've like I've known Ryan Day before the world new Ryan Day, I know what he is. And I have the utmost respect, but I think we forget how good Sark is too. All right. I know that was a tangent. No, that wasn't going to be fun. That wasn't going to be fun. I can't wait. So what's your, what's your pick? What do you got for score? Ohio State 2726. Wow. I got him. I was 2421. I will say this. You almost talked me into it. Just listening. You talk about Sark there. I know. You know what? I was like, you know what? Maybe, maybe this is this. Maybe McShay's right. This is the time that Texas finally turns it around. I almost talked myself. And that's what I've just got. I don't love either side in this. I think it could legitimately go either way. I really do. But I do have, I do have some picks this week. Here we go. Western Michigan, they should have lost their appeal, Western Michigan, the Mac, they're repealing that game. They lost quarterbacks, stinks, one good drive. You didn't love them in the off season. I can't. Boy, you love Maggie. Venables is your guy from back in Clemson. This is a tough spot, man. The game is the game, but this is a different game when you're getting five and a half points and there's a 43 point over under total. I like four points or more when the total is that low and 43 and a half points. There's ain't the NFL 43 and a half points total in college footballs, low, low, low, low. Wittingham's great in these spots, man. Kyle Wittingham. Oh, listen, by the way, Oklahoma won 51, nothing gets you tep last week and they, they were 10 in the AP poll coming in and they were 11 in the AP poll after winning 51, nothing gets you tep. I consider them a top 10 team AP poll can go fuck itself, but regardless, don't even get me started. Don't even get me started five of his seven. This is Wittingham at Utah five of his seven outright victories over AP top 10 opponents while at Utah were as the underdog sky loves this spot. Everyone. Oh, Oklahoma looks great. Mateer's thumb looks good. Ooh, they can run the ball a little bit this year, they're, they're strong on D again. Coach got after the D line, they'll get that fixed, they get some weapons. Those tight ends, holy shit, Jason Witten, he's, he's whipped that in and one of the best tight end rooms in the country, you know, everyone's on Oklahoma. In fact, the consensus view, look at the consensus boards, like 73% of tickets are on Oklahoma. I like side with that number. Give me five and a half, 40th in the defensive game. I think Wittingham's going to find a way to claw and just scrape and make it ugly. Second one, I'm not going to go as long on this one. Kansas, another plus five and a half against Missouri. Similar concept, Missouri looks, it's like the hot team. They look sexy in week one, nothing about their uniforms or campus that oozes sex. But that team looks sexy, sexy last week. They're kind of like, hmm, is Missouri an underdog? I mean, it's like a sleeper team in the SEC. Watch out for this Missouri team. Kansas, ah, Jalen Daniel, he's on the NFL, by the way, won the backup job at Tampa Bay. Congrats. Yeah. Yeah. That is the first time my son, Tate McShay, has ever outdulled me in a scouting report and hated it. He would, he asked me all year long, where do I have him in the quarterback rankings? He's like, he should be six, maybe, maybe, maybe his high is fourth dad, I'm like, okay, go back up to bed. It's bedtime. Maybe, maybe he wasn't wrong. Anyway, public's on him, 70% on, on Missouri. Kansas is just quietly, and I get it. It was not a great opponent against Marshall. But Andy Cotlinke's offense puts up, puts up some yards, puts up some points, 613 yards last week, and that Isaiah Marshall, look, look, no, who do they, who do they play? There was a Marshall bent safely, but no, yeah, yeah, I was reading Isaiah Marshall. I forget who they played last week. Isaiah Marshall looked good. So it's Michigan plus five and a half, Kansas plus five and a half, and my last one is this, row the boat, baby. Here we go. Row the freaking boat. You see the student section, take your sealant from the World Cup. Kamari Taylor looked awesome, told you about Manning, passing Academy. You talk about a player like Viral, sent out a clip of that one throw flat foot in the 2.4 million impressions or something, someone texted me. He is awesome, but I think it lost in those viral clips and all that is the fact that the supporting cast around him is still not, it's still Mississippi state. And now you get this Minnesota team that's just always, loves being the underdog, will come in and play disciplined football, they'll grind away with you on you. They're a home dog getting just one point and the public is all over. It's the SEC, the SEC is back this year, Mississippi state, Kamari Taylor. This is the early statement game for Flex, Minnesota and for the big 10 against the big 10s. The big thing is the best of the big 10s, really good, not the middle class. This is an opportunity you watch, Minnesota is going to win that game. What you got? You're out of your mind with Oklahoma and Michigan being tight. I listen, it's DefCon 5 and Ann Arbor and I get it and I don't even know what to make of the head coach's comments. about his quarterback and that was interesting timing. I'm not really sure that's the most positive thing for the team, although kind of winning him is obviously one of the best to do it. And I do think that Jason Beck, the new offense quarter, could turn around for them, but it's going to get worse before it gets better. And that Oklahoma defensive front is going to eat up that Michigan offensive line. I really believe that. I think that's going to, it might be a low scoring game, but I'm not sure how Michigan's going to score a lot of points that game. I think they're going to comfortably win that game. Also, wouldn't want to be Oklahoma state this week. One want to be Oklahoma state Oregon. I wouldn't want to be mentioned with that grade. You put on messed up maker that week this week. Oh, not good. I can't. Okay. All right, calm down. We're not. Are we doing that? We could do it all day if you want. I wouldn't want to be Oklahoma. We could. We could. They go. We don't want to be Oklahoma state, man, because Oregon falls four spots. I think they are going to be that's going to be a pissed off Oregon team two years ago. Oregon lost to, I mean, or sorry, Oregon beat Boise State by three. They went to Oregon state the next week and won by 35. I think Oregon's going to put it on Oklahoma state and Clemson fans. I know. I know. I'm not your favorite. You're going to hate me now. Clemson better watch out for this Georgia Southern team. I cannot imagine Clemson losing a night home game against Georgia Southern, but that one might be a little bit close to them. People think that defense has been rebuilt. They got a new coordinator and Mike Mutz. They got some key transfers to come in and more importantly, they've got a guy at quarterback and Max Johnson who struggled with injuries, but he has started games at LSU Texas A&M in North Carolina. He is a talent to do. If he can stay healthy, all I'm going to say is I think Clemson is going to win that game, but it could be a little tighter and there could be a little bit more noise coming out of Clemson this week. I don't know how much more noise. I know it could be there are years, but I hear you said it last week with Western Michigan and Michigan, so I'm listening. If I'm out there, I'm listening. We did two recap shows because the schedule forced it and it was awesome and it was fun. I'm so glad we did the Sunday night. I come off of Trinidad Shambles and that performance. It was the right call, but we haven't really talked enough. I want to get to a couple guys. Why don't you go first and we'll rotate back and forth. I want to get to a couple guys each where we want to let the world know, hey, scumbags. This is a good scumbags segment. Scumbags, get out your pencils and paper. Get a pen if you want. Get your little phones, get your thumbs. We're going to give you four guys here mentioned that we watched tape on and they've got our attention. Draft prospects for 2027, a little early peak. What do you got mentioned? I'm going to start with Notre Dame corner DJ McKinney and I know it doesn't really work like this, but he was, I think he was essentially a 14 point swing in that game. He had to pick six, so there's the seven, right? There was a play in the middle of the second quarter. It's tough to do this without fail. I'll try to be quick about this. There's a play in the middle of the second quarter where if he stays and runs with the outside receiver and doesn't come off that receiver and break up a pass with a physical hit in that game, that I think Wisconsin is going to score and it's going to turn into a 17-13 Wisconsin lead at that point. It was an unbelievable play in terms of his instincts and his physicality and that really jumped out to me because then when I watched him at Colorado, I was like, this guy, he's sticky, man. He could turn and run with guys. He's very comfortable and pressed, but I was like, I feel like he guards grass a little bit. I feel like he's not as instinctive and off in zone looks. Seeing that play, it was basically like immediately a radar goes, I mean, alarm goes off my head of, if he can do those kinds of things too, this is going to be a good year for him. And I'll just say this, playing opposite of Leonard Moore, you're going to get some opportunities, man. He's going to have some chances to show NFL teams what he can do. I had him as a seventh best corner coming in. I think he's a top 50 player, but if he continues to play at this level, and I know he's not going to always get a pick six, but just the overall tape. And again, the physicality also jumped out tough against the run. Really, he was aggressive, physical, the whole game. If he continues to do things like this, I think he's going to move up some boards. I'm going to go, both my guys are from the Louisville Ole Miss game. I'm going to go with my edge rusher first. And if you watch the game, it's probably not a big surprise. But the intriguing part for me is we, by the way, this is a good time to let everyone know. And it's got all of our evaluations, even those beautiful little spider charts and everything. So it's going to be unveiled. I made a, literally, there was one edge and I won't bring him his name that I wound up doing an evaluation on and had a little bit like, right, there was another like five to seven players that were 51 to 57 that didn't make the top 50. I watched Loobin the other night and I'm like, Dan, we're going to rotate him. I know I think you did that with an offensive lineman as well. Yeah, I did. So, so that's that. And so he kind of played his, he helped play his, he broke the tie. Let's put it that way with the first game of the year. Loobin is an edge for Louisville, right? Where's number 50? He is a classic standout. Think about like the old like Baltimore three, four, even the Steelers who a certain degree, those stand-up edge rushers don't have to be the tallest cats. He's six, two and a quarter, 267 pounds runs a really good four, six, five off the edge. He's fast on the straight line. How do I sum this up? I see some Matt Judeon. I see some, some Jonathan Cooper. Even see some a little shorter. Yeah, yeah, Diabie, right? He's not the best athlete, like fluid change direction, all that stuff. But he's also got this efficiency of movement movement where like he doesn't have a lot of, he might come up high when he's going like a twist like an end tackle game that they'll run. But, but he doesn't, he doesn't take a lot of fall steps and it's not like Titanic, right? He just, he plays with power. He plays his ass off. He has great vision. Those are the things like what if I could elevate or pitch you in 25 seconds, shorter, thick, powerful player, phenomenal eyes at the position with instincts, ball location. Always knows where the balls going, gets there faster than most defensive line will watch all year. And his efficiency of movement, including a dip around the edge allows him to, to play better, be more productive than maybe his athletic traits, but he's got speed. He's got power. He'll jack you up and all those things. And I think he can keep getting better as a past Russia with better hand usage in a plan. But he plays his fucking ass off every snap and he's a nightmare to deal with because he'll never stop coming at you. And that's why I think he's, he's a round two guy right now. Nice. I went for my next guy, went for, I look for sleepers early on the season. I, you know, when you're, you're down a mobile and you're talking to guys and they say to you, you know, did you see that game earlier in the year? You know, maybe you didn't have the best year. Maybe he's not a top 50 guy, but this is a player that can maybe help you. And I looked, You know, I'm looking at some of these stat lines and I see a kid who has five catches for 98 yards and I'm like, that's impressive. And then I see that he has two pot returns for touchdowns in the game. Minnesota's Javon Tracy, man, slung receiver and return guy. He is the younger brother of former Purdue running back and current giants running back Tyrone Chase Tracy. Mm. Star off his family of underdogs. Yes. Star off his career at Miami of Ohio, kind of quiet the first two years there. He translates a really strong 24 season there into getting, you know, an offer at Minnesota, transferring over to Minnesota. Second leading receiver numbers were okay. He got off to an outstanding start against again, I get the level of competition. I get that it's eastern Illinois, but that those are still impressive numbers. And when you watch the tape in that game, this guy's dangerous in space. When you get him the ball in space, he can make good things happen for you. Inconsistent hands had a, he had a drop in this game. That's one of the things that's probably going to not come down a little bit, but when you look at burst, he can make some guys miss and you also has a speed to threaten vertically and take off after the catch. He's a guy that when you're looking, you know, when we're in April and we're talking about some guys, it might be day three guys that have some interesting skill sets. I think Javon Tracy might be one of those guys. I like that one. He's been hanging on to that. My last one, and I should have mentioned with Lubin, what a route he's had. Started army, then Iowa, Western, then coastal Carolina, to land in Louisville in his last two years. For Duce Alexander, who the country got to really know on Sunday night, right? And again, I can write him up, it feels like a splash, but he's not on any list. He wasn't on like a national list. I don't know why monster game, monster game. I want you to know about him. Fourth year player, okay, began at Wake Forest, transferred to Ole Miss. Two games as a freshman, 23, 36 catches in 2024, transfers to Ole Miss. They saw something in him, laying in the staff at the time saw something in him, comes in last year, plays 15 games, 44 catches, 684, two touchdowns. Also had 122 rushing yards on 19 carries. Former high school sprinter, if you notice when he scores touchdowns, I notice I'm both of them watching the tape back. It's the break, the tape chestnut, that's his, that's his, that's his, that's his celly. And then he does something with like this, sure, after that, but he's a, he's a sprinter at heart, right? Father, Hilton Alexander, if you remember that name, played three years in the NFL. Sprinter's normally aren't tough guys, you know, the first two clips, the first two clips on the, on the key reel when I went back and just trying to get a feel for him, him blocking his ass off. He's six foot average size, probably will come in at like 5/11 something, 180, lean frame, in a sprinter. You don't expect to see him like literally getting in position, hands locked in, grinding the sustain, guys falling at his legs and still fighting to finish. So I'm like, hmm, interesting. Then you see him on the, here's his negative Alexander. He, because he's so, he's a legit and four, four, three range guy. It's not just that second gear that you saw when he caught the, the crosser and took it off because that second gear's wild. It's not just the speed on the vertical route that you saw running past the cornerback. He has this acceleration off the line that gets literally cornerbacks back on their heels with their weight back. The thing that he's got to improve upon and this is a tough one is, you always hear about receivers, you have to gear down, does it efficiency in and out of breaks? Yes. That's the thing. He double caught that one a little bit on the, going up the field, but he did a nice job adjusting to a couple of different balls, including going down below. So the ball skills, I think, I think are good. Let's, let's see over time. But the, the efficiency in and out of breaks is going to be something I'm watching this season. If you're looking for something like what, what can get him, you know, because the first rowdy ran, he had this cornerback backed off seven yards and bailing and then all of sudden he breaks it off, but he, he falls, slips and falls and everyone's like, well, it's wet field and all that like, I don't know. Then he had another one. It was a stop, go, stop. So he stops and go and there's a little bit of it. And then he tries to break that one off and it's like three extra steps and come back. Right. That's what I'm watching for with Alexander and his development. But man, is he enticing? Man, is he? Yeah. That was, I mean, he's fun to watch. I hope he keeps it up. Yeah. All right. So we're talking about the NFL draft, let's transition to last year's draft. We got four questions we want to answer here. And I'm going to have a McShay report out on Friday that's going to give you all the players I'm most excited to watch this year based off of where, where it actually is not based off of it. I'll tap into all my draft scouting reports and notes and everything else, but there'll be some, some guys that like are obvious, but it's kind of based more off of what I'm here and talking to guys in the league, what the projective role is, or maybe I'm going to sneak one or two guys in there that I know are going to be awesome because I just, I feel it in my bones after studying their tape. But I'm counting on them to have big years in the NFL. But we have four questions we want to rip through here as we just kicked off the NFL season last night. And we're looking ahead to week one and beyond the entire season. And we're the rookies that are going to kind of catch our attention. Start with the first question mentioned, appointment viewing rookie of all the 256 draft picks and the 100 plus other guys that signed. They cut down to 53 man rosters, all the rookies in the NFL, which is the one that you every Sunday or Thursday or Monday or holidays are going to be like, I got to watch him. Who is it? We live in a fantasy world now, right? So it's got to be a running back. It's got to be one of these explosive wide receivers. And no, man, I want to see Dallas Cowboys safety Caleb Downs. And I want to see what Christian Barker does with him and his that defense because look, we know how good that Dallas offense is. I like a lot of other people are higher on the Dallas defense coming in and downs is a big part of that. But he's not the biggest guy. He's not the fastest guy. Can he be the dude that we think he can be? Can he be that versatile Swiss army knife who does whatever Parker asks of him and all the reports in the preseason were, uh-huh. This guy is who we thought he is. He's as good as advertised. For me, I cannot wait to see Caleb Downs do his thing. And I'm really optimistic that it's going to be as good as we thought it was going to be. The point in viewing for me is Ruben Bane. Yeah, I struggled with this one because some of these categories leak, but go ahead. I know. And I'm already adjusting what a couple others because now we've covered. Ruben Bane. Our arms man, no one in the last 20 years has done it with his short arms, double digit sack guy, he just goes against everything we know. He's an outlier. He's an outlier. We don't draft outliers. We're going to have a roster full of outliers. Yeah. Well, Tampa Bay has got an outlier that came in immediately. It's like, it's Tampa Bay. Like, the community has embraced him. The practices are already becoming legendary. The effort, the intensity that he brought that quite frankly helped. Like, Cristobal, yes, recruiting all that Bane and Mesa door, that combination of those two cats, but really Bane at the end of the day. That was the guy that kind of changed everything at Miami because that team's nothing without that defense last year. And Bane was the heart and soul and he did it with just leadership effort, toughness, all of it. Reports on a camper awesome. I think Ruben Bane, we'll see what Tampa Bay sees. Finally, they sign Baker, we'll see how the season goes. But I think they're very clearly based off that draft are rebuilding that defense. And I can't think of a better, he's on the very, very short list, including Caleb Daz, the guys I would want to build around from not just the production and ability, but also the leadership and the bar that they've set. But I don't just want to watch, but no, what have you come, like, and I still want to watch, because now we're in actual NFL games and you get scouting reports week to week, is there a ceiling? Does it get capped? So it's not over just because they had a great camp by any stretch. The reports are awesome, but I still want to see it on Sundays in games. But, you know, yeah, I'm here for the score surf tour. I'm here for the guy who sprints by picking up the hat is not interested in looking in the mirror. This man has been on a mission. It feels like for the last two years, just to prove everyone wrong. And I, I just don't see it failing. I get, I get all the things about the arm like I just don't see it failing. I'm here for it, man. All right. Next, next category NFL overthought it. Is there a player that jumps out? I'm going to go with the nickel back for Tampa Bay, Kianta Scott, who apparently just wasn't, you know, I guess the thing is he's not big enough at 511 and a quarter inch is 193 pounds. I mean, the dude runs a 4 3 3 40 was I think outstanding at Miami and is going to be outstanding in that defense. I mean, I don't know why he lasts as long as he did. To me, I think they just with the frame and the fact that maybe he's not as fluid in coverage as you might want your for your nickel back. But this guy's just a freaking good football player who can cover a lot of ground and brings with him a mentality, like a Rubin Bane, just great toughness, great work ethic. I think Kianta Scott's going to be one of those guys where you look back on it and say to yourself, how is he, how did they get him as late as they did? I'm going to throw a wrench in this one. Chris, but Chris Bell. Interesting, because you know what's interesting about that is everyone's talking about Caleb Douglas. They're talking about the other guy in money. Yeah, but I mean, he only had 53 catches, Caleb Douglas for 830 yards. It was 15.7. I think the overthinking it was Bell with the injury and how quickly he could come back. And also that it's not a one trick pony, but he didn't have a lot of tricks in his and his arsenal, you know, not a refined route runner, inconsistency on tape, all those things. And I saw it too, but honestly, God, he was a late first early second because of those things. He wasn't the 90 or the 94th overall player in this last draft. And Miami, because Miami's rebuilding was like, yeah, we'll take him. And if he can't go this year, if he's not the same guy this year, we can read shirt him and we'll get him. We'll get him in 2027. But now he's back from his ACL listed as the starters after rehabbing. And you know what, for my, this may not be the first four weeks. You may, I may not get to pay off in week one. Chris Bell's going to be a dude. Chris, Chris Bell is going like AJ Brown. Remember AJ Brown fell. So did DK Metcalf, both in the second round. There were one trick ponies that can only go vertical, all those things. This guy is, I'm not saying that level of talent, but I'm also saying it ain't that far off. I'm just intrigued. I'm intrigued to see what happens with Chris Bell. I think, again, wait for it. Wait for it. Hold, hold. But I think Chris Bell is going to be one of those guys when we look back, even on this year, even with that offense, and that team and the rebuild is going to be a long year for Miami. But we might look back and be like, man, we overthought that one, you know, um, I hear you, rookie, rookie of the year picks. So we're going offense and defense. Give me your offense first. You ready for this? You're gonna love this. Cleveland wide receiver. It's up to you. Denzel Boston. Ooh, yeah, I think it's Boston, man. Three of us still have been wide receivers. The other two have been quarterbacks. I don't see a quarterback winning it this year. I think it's going to be a wide receiver. I, I love carnal tape. I'm not sold at the, the, the KMW or the carnal tape is going to come together enough for him to be the guy. I think that Denzel Boston, when you look at his frame, I think I said it, I'll scream it. I'll jump up and down. Guy was a should have been a first-run pick. He's the first-run pick all day in my book. And then you looked at, he said, a great camp. He's a big-bodied guy. He doesn't have to separate to make plays. He's going to make 50/50 plays. Uh, he's going to get playing time because they need to play. They're going to play two rookies. They're going to play him in conception. He's going to get targets. I think that Denzel Boston, and I don't care about the odds. I mean, oh, what about the odds? If you look at the odds, yeah, there they are. Tucker throws them up right away plus 2,500 plus 2,500. I like that money, man. I'm throwing some money at that because I think everyone is sleeping on them. And the other guys, Jeremy, my love already's been banged up a little bit. We saw this with Ash genty last year. They got some injuries along the offensive line in Arizona. How well is he going to be able to do? I don't want to take anyone of the guys you're going to pick away from you. But there's some questions about maybe the bigger names that make me concerned. And Denzel Boston's game just translates to the NFL. Hey, Tucker, get Antonio Williams, a wide receiver for the commanders. What are his goals? I almost went there too. Wow. 50 to one. Wow. Plus 5,000. I'm not giving up on Cornell. Great pick. I think that's going to develop. And I think it, I think as the season progresses, they're going to have something. I think it's going to take a minute for for Kim Ward, Dave, all done that connection. But Dave has a really good history of first-year receivers in his system, putting up big numbers. So I'm not counting out that one. I do wonder with Arizona if this is strategic. And if they they brought in, what's his name? Why am I blanking? I'll get it. If they brought in the other running back from from Atlanta, who had the same exact role with Beige on there. Algier Tyson Algier. Thank you. The BYU back. If they brought in Algier, knowing full well, that's who they wanted to take. And also, Tyler, yeah. Also, knowing full well that they're not going to go to the playoffs this year. So let's not like, let's be protective of this of this weapon. And let I mean, he's going to get a lot of run. I think, could you are my love when it? Absolutely. Carnival tape when it? Absolutely. Antonio Williams, man. He's this versatile Z slot 4.41 speed 155 10 split 39 and a half inch vertical. I told you, I thought he the difference from 24 to 25 on his tape was this aggressive attacking confidence that he had going to get the football and then transitioning up the field. He wanted that damn ball and he wanted to show the world what he could do with it after. Now, biggest catch radius in the world. Nah. He's not the biggest guy. And I get it. And he, yeah, you've got Terry McClure and it's the fun digs. But guess what? McClure is going to get a lot of attention. Digs is going to get some attention. I think about some rookies who have come in. Think about Lad Mcconkey, his rookie year. Those numbers he put up. Maybe he doesn't win it. I'm not saying he's going to defend it. I'm not, I'm not throwing a ton of money on him. But like, he might be worth a few bucks if that's, if that's what you're into in Fandall. Um, he could be a guy that surprises a lot of people in that system with Jayden Daniels trying to have a bounce back year. I just, I like him a lot. He got two hundred. I do too. Clemson. He's a slot in the NFL. I don't, and he's had a great camp. Great camp. Third round pick. All right. Defensive rookie of the year. I don't care. I don't care if we already talked about him. I'll, if you want to talk about him more, I'll talk about him more. It's going to be Rubin Bain, man. Rubin Bain to me. He is the clear front runner for defensive rook year. I don't think, look, his book. I love Mansor Delane, and I think he's going to have a nice year for Kansas City. I think he's going to be a great player. I well known how much I like him. But when you have a guy who can get to the quarterback, that's, that's going to be, I mean, it's just the position that he plays, dudes who can get after the quarterback are in a better position to win that award. And I think he is, again, I think he's going scorched earth. I think he is just going to be an absolute maniac. And it's going to be tough for him not to win this award. That's how high I am. I am. I don't disagree. I also think, here's the deal. If Bain wins it, I'll be pumped because I want him to give the f you to everyone. If Kaleb downs, when's it? Who you already talked about? I'll be like, yeah, it makes sense. I mean, there are a few guys where I'm like, yeah, that would make sense. Dylan, Dylan Thieneman is one to keep an eye on him. There's a long shot. We'll do some long shots in a minute. But what about our Val Reese? Yeah, these are long shots, though, I think. I think our Val Reese is necessarily a long shot. Like he's put, he and Tremaine Edmonds play next to each other. I could just, I could see them putting up some, I could see our Val Reese putting up some big numbers and a lot of tackles. It hasn't all been beautiful in the preseason, hasn't kind of gotten his way, but gotten his bearings. But I could see our Val Reese as the season goes on. The Giants are in the mix. The Giants are closing in on a 10th win at the end of the year, and he's got 100-something tackles, you know? And they're starting to utilize them a little bit more versatility-wise. I don't know. I could see our Val Reese because I think sometimes we get so caught up in the training camp and the big names and who's flashing and the splash guys and which department in the league has the best social media, you know? just keep an eye on that. This is going to open up some stuff for Bryce Lance. So keep an eye on Lance. Any any long shot defensive guy? I'll give you one. Go. Jacob Rodriguez for Miami, the inside linebacker. I think he's a guy that's keeping eye on. And I also think, I think I liked what Tampa Bay did in terms of adjusting their defense. Josiah Trotter, their inside linebacker, keeping eye on him. I think those two guys are could potentially win it. Trotter's had a great camp. We didn't write this guy up, but man, I'm hearing some good things about Falcons and I don't know if the Falcons, but the Browns had the defensive rookie of the year last year. Yeah. You go to a shitty team and you rack up a bunch of tackles. That's the four goals. Kendall Daniels. Kendall Daniels is a player that we didn't write up. And he won the starting job next to divine Diablo. Moving ahead of some veterans, one that conflict. I don't know. He's an off-ball linebacker. He's got unusual size, physicality, coverage, range. He's been a revelation in Falcons camp, according to everything I've heard. So that's another name to keep an eye out for. All right. It's been fun. What an awesome weekend we have.
