Obsession Is A Movie About A Total Loser | Joe DeRosa Vile and Horrendous

The host of Vile and Herendus delivers a satirical yet passionate review of a recent Netflix special, beginning with a controversial PSA that claims loved ones won’t support you until you achieve financial success—challenging the notion that real support comes from genuine connection. He then enthusiastically critiques the film *Obsession*, calling it a disturbing but deeply insightful commentary on toxic love, praising its low-budget quality, strong performances, and cultural depth. The episode shifts to a nostalgic unboxing segment, where the host unveils a curated collection of cult films and classic hip-hop, including Dario Argento’s *Deep Red*, the iconic *12 Angry Men*, and a rare vinyl release from the Ultra Magnetic MCs. He also condemns Frontier Airlines’ deteriorating customer experience, pointing to exploitative pricing, lack of basic amenities like charging ports or seat recline, and the removal of carry-on options as evidence of a broader trend toward isolating consumers. The segment concludes with a disturbing real-life story of a roommate’s violent threats, linking it to themes of unchecked obsession and social alienation. The host ties these issues to broader cultural trends, suggesting that airlines and media are designed to create isolated, controllable consumers. He concludes with a list of upcoming live comedy shows and a humorous closing segment about “white women” and spiking drinks, reinforcing the episode’s tone of irreverent, sharp social commentary.

(upbeat music) - All right, folks, welcome to Vile and Herendus. I am your host, the Vile Herendus. What's going on, everybody? I wanna thank everybody that tuned in to the Netflix special since we announced it last week. And since it debuted on Netflix, thank you very much for that. And thank you for all of the nice birthday things people said. I really do appreciate that. That's very, very sweet. Let's get into the episode here. We're gonna start as we have been starting with a PSA. Roll that PSA, please. - Trust me when I say this. Trust me when I say this. Best advice you're gonna get in your entire fucking life. People that know you, people that actually know you and know your story, know your truth, they will never support you. They won't do it anyway. People that know you in real life, they will never support you or give you any type of acknowledgement until you are rich and everybody else is already on the bandwagon of supporting you, even though they know your fucking story and they know how you drag yourself out of the fucking pit to hell. They'll never support you until other people support you and you are financially gaining from your story. Do it anyway. You have got to come to a place in your life where you rely only on yourself and you are your biggest fucking cheerleader and fan. No matter what, no matter if you are all the fuck alone in the world, do it anyway. - I'd like to shout out this lady for giving the worst fucking advice I've ever heard. Ever, ever. Your loved ones won't support you at your worth. That's what loved ones do. That's what loved ones are. That's those are the people that are with you through the shit, through the dirt. Those are the people that support you. Am I misconstruing what she's saying here? She's literally saying nobody will support you until you're successful. That's insane, right? Guys, pussy out? - Yeah, what's the hell? - Riveting response from the pussy hounds. I thought this advice was batshit. She literally says nobody will support her love you until you're successful. It's the opposite, right? Maybe I'm not understanding. The people that, those are the people that you don't trust. The people that come along after the success is there. I don't know. This poor lady, I don't know. I don't wanna know who hurt her. I wanna know who hurt her. And I love that she felt the need to do, to give this advice was so important for her to get out to the world. She did it with wet hair. Jumped right out of the shower. Like, I gotta, I gotta do this right now. That might have been sweat to be fair. We're not sure. But anyway, there's your PSA. What do we got first on the docket today? Is it, is it, oh, oh, we haven't done one of these in a little while. It's time for a debut. (audience applauds) Folks, I finally saw obsession. Finally saw obsession. This movie, everybody's talking about, everybody's loving. I finally saw obsession and boy oh boy. I loved it. I loved it. Obsession is a movie worth seeing. If you haven't seen it, I'll give you a little bit of the story here. Obsession is a movie about a total pussy who has zero game and has to resort to a magical wish in order to have sex for what I can gather. The first time is in his entire adult life, even though he's roughly 33 years old. Anyway, it all blows up in his face when he wishes for a girl that he's like in love with. And by the way, who clearly likes him to love him more than any person on planet Earth. And of course, it all blows up in his face. He gets exactly what he deserves for being a wimp when he wishes and the wish works. And she goes completely insane becoming sickly obsessed with him and doing completely heinous things to gain his equal love in return. Obviously, when that starts happening, he suddenly turns off and grossed out because let's face it, none of us really want love in return, right? We just want to chase after shit we can't have. Once you get it, you don't want it. This is truly, truly, I mean, this an amazing movie that teaches you a truly amazing lesson. Love is a bad thing. Stick to casual sex, you'll be just fine. Otherwise, people are gonna get hurt. Honestly, I'm making jokes, but I still can't believe this was shot on a shoestring budget that, I mean, it just, it looks great. The acting is top notch, especially from the woman who plays the main character. I'm forgetting her name. She's got a very good. - She's never ready. - What is it? - Indeed, never ready. - Yes. She's, wow, she's amazing. She's gonna be mass. Everybody's great, but she is truly great. And then a fun surprise appearance from Andy Richter. I didn't think I was gonna see Andy Richter in this thing. That was fun. Anyway, great acting, looks great. This movie has more depth, substance, technique, and aesthetic than you'll find in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe combined. And it was all done for well under a million dollars. Director Curry Barker and his cast and crew turned out a stunning, stunning piece of art that is haunting, consuming, and disturbing. And as a horror movie fan, I love when a horror movie can be actually disturbing and this delivers. My one wish is that he keeps up this kind of fantastic work and continues to scare the living shit out of me until someone I long to love me destroys my entire life and causes my demise. Curry Barker's obsession, the best obsession since Calvin Klein's obsession. Go watch it. And there's your goddamn D-View. All right, folks, we're gonna do an unboxing. Let's stay on the entertainment kick for a minute here. OK, let's see what we got. You know, again, I ordered this stuff. And when I order it, I don't remember everything I ordered. So it's always a fun surprise to see what's showing up. What is our first, oh, wait, the ADR. What do we got here? Ooh, ooh, deep red. Dario Argento, Maestro of the Macabre, the man behind some of the greatest excursions in Italian horror, including Susperia, burned with the Crystal Plumage. And more, obviously comes deep red, the ultimate yellow movie. I've never seen this. As a horror fan, I'm embarrassed to admit, I've never seen this. - It's pretty surprising. - Yes, I've seen a couple clips of it. There is, I guess, one of the more famous scenes in this is the guy coming into the house with the doll face on, which is really freaky. I'm excited to watch this. It was very, very fairly priced on Amazon. It comes to us from Arrow Video. Arrow Video, one of my favorite labels, they do really amazing work. This is not a true 4K, but it's a 4K scan, high-deaf blu-ray, I gotta be honest. A lot of the time I can't really tell the difference between a true 4K and a 4K scan. Maybe that's just me and with an amateur eye, but I think a 4K scan do you just find a lot of the time. I'm seeing now this was made in Australia, but I think Australia is still region one. For those of you that don't know, blu-ray and DVD have regions on them. So it depends, depending on the region you can or can't play on an American player, I think Australia is region one, which is the American region. But even if it's not, it doesn't matter. I have a region-free blu-ray player because I'm a psycho and I never wanna run into the problem of not being able to play something. I wanna be able to just buy something if I think it looks cool and not worry about it and that's why I got that. It was a smart investment. Anyway, Dario Argento's deep red. Dario Argento's an interesting filmmaker. He apparently, the way he would write his scripts, at least for, I think the earlier half of his career, I think he lived or at least would go and live for a period of time with the person he wrote with, whose name I don't know, and he would wake up and go downstairs and they'd start writing and Dario Agento would just start telling the guy his dreams and they would take those dreams and make those set pieces in the movie and piece together a story. And I think that's kind of what their process was. And that's why Dario Agento's movies often feel kind of like fever dreams. There's plots, obviously there's stories, but sometimes it doesn't make perfect sense in my opinion. It's more of a collage of things happening that speak to a story, which is cool. It's a different approach, but it works. When it works, it works. And then also Goblin did the soundtrack to this in Goblin. There are a music group that did a lot of soundtracks for these types of films back in the '70s and early '80s. Very synthy a lot of the time, very much the sound you expect to hear in these types of movies. So I look forward very much to watching Deep Red, probably alone. These are the types of movies that, you know, it's not really date movies for most people, but we'll see. As anyone, anyone, anyone ever noticed that the busier the schedule gets, the more out of control and out of hand, their door dash habit gets, my God, I know I have. As much as I wish I could live off of takeout and taco kits. And I've tried people. It's not sustainable, not physically or financially. That's why I've been using a factor. I lean on factor. Factor, if you're not familiar, these are chef-made, dietician design meals that are ready to eat in just two minutes without any extra prep or cleanup, with over a hundred rotating meals each week, eating clean doesn't have to mean, eating the same boring meal prep every day, until the end of this excruciating existence. Factor makes life fun. Factor keeps it fresh with new additions, like salmon burgers and shredded pork and collard greens. What I like about Factor is it's not just a main thing. There's your main course and there's always a little side dish usually. And it feels like a full and balanced meal, why? Because it is. I love that they're quickly, quickly accessible, pulling it out of the fridge. They're able to be made quickly. You pop it in. I think two minutes, right? In the microwave, it's just great. And it's easy to eat. In the calorie range, you want to eat in. It's easy to eat within the dietary range. You want to eat in. Factor, they specialize in serving up chef-curated, dietician-directed, reddit-eat meals, so you don't have to sacrifice nutrients in the name of convenience. So let's eat real. Head to factormeals.com/vial50off, OK? That's factormeals.com/vial50FF, and use code vial50FF, vial50off, to get 50% off. And one free breakfast item per box for one full year, while supplies last until October 31st, 2026. That is code [email protected]/[email protected]. See the website for more details. All right. Here we go. We got another envelope. I think I know what this is. I think is it? No, it's not. But this is one of two criterians I ordered, because the criterion stuff is still on sale in Amazon. I don't know if the criterion themselves are still doing their sale, or if they're just on sale in Amazon. But anyway, 12 angry men. Classic. 12 angry men. This is an incredible film, starring. Listen to this cast, Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, Ed Begley, EG Marshall, Jack Warden, Martin Balsam, John Fiedler, Jack Klogman, Edward Bins, Joseph Swini, George Voskovek, Robert Weber, directed by the great Sidney Lumet. 12 angry men. If you're unfamiliar, this is a classic film about a jury of 12 angry men. On a murder trial that is very, very involved with race, they all-- 11 of them think that the kid who was accused is guilty, and one person played by Henry Fonda believes that the kid is innocent. And it's about him trying to turn 11 of these men to his side. It is a riveting, riveting piece of work. Again, just the Blu-ray-- I don't know if-- I don't think there is a 4K of this, but a Blu-ray of this is going to look absolutely stunning. I'm excited to finally own this picture. This is-- it's a challenging movie. It's challenging, because it's one of those movies where you sit there and you're kind of going back and forth and everybody, even though they're on extraordinarily different sides of this argument, all are kind of making great points and things that challenge you, even though you know that Henry Fonda is correct. I like movies like that. I like movies that make you feel a little bit uncomfortable with some of the arguments they're forcing you to examine as you watch this, as you watch the film. And this is just an exemplary example. No, no, that's redundant. It's exemplary. This is exemplary to what I'm speaking of. "12 Angry Men, Check It Out If You Never Have." And a first here in our unboxing segment-- we've never had one of these. This is not a movie. This is a record, because I buy a lot of records. And my favorite types of records to collect-- well, I like to collect all kinds of records. Oh, wait. Yeah, there you go. Course Gallup. Shit. I just realized my address is prominently featured. That's got to be blurred out. OK. We got you nowhere. One of my favorite types, if not my favorite type, of music to collect is hip-hop. I love buying hip-hop, especially on vinyl and cassette. And this is-- I knew what this was, because I remembered ordering it. This is a special edition. Man, I'm excited about this. Oh, gosh. That is pretty. Wow. OK. This is Ultra. The album is called "Big Time." Who is Ultra, if you don't know? Ultra is Cool Keith of the Ultra Magnetic MCs. Cool Keith is one of my favorite rappers of all time, along with Tim Dogg. Tim Dogg was part of the Ultra Magnetic Crew. He was not one of the official Ultra Magnetic MCs. I don't think at any point, at least. They did a record together called-- Tim Dogg is most famous for-- he did a record in the '90s called "Fuck Compton." When Compton was the hottest thing in hip-hop, NWA, and Ice Cube and everything, Tim Dogg did a record called "Fuck Compton," which was brazen. He's a South Bronx rapper, New York City. That's where Ultra Magnetic is from as well. Ultra Magnetic was a seminal hip-hop group. Said G, one of the MCs and producers in the group, is somebody that through his style of sampling and bee creation, completely revolutionized the way beats were made in hip-hop and just changed the whole landscape. There's an amazing history, "Tulcher Magnetic," and that whole crew. This is not everybody. This is just Cool Keith and Tim Dogg, along with one of my favorite producers of all time, "Cutmaster Curt." "Cutmaster Curt" is an incredible producer that did a lot of stuff with "Cool Keith." "Cutmaster Curt's most famous track is probably-- he did a remix of "Body Moving for the Beastie Boys." And his remix was pretty popular. But he's brilliant. Anyway, this record, Ultra, was a record I had on CD when it first came out when I was in college. I forget the year of release. I think it was '97. Anyway, this is the 30th anniversary release. "Get Down" does this type of thing a lot. If you don't know "Get Down" and you're a hip-hop and R&B fan, check out "Get Down." Go check out "Get Down" records. They do such amazing stuff. They're doing with classic hip-hop releases, what Arrow, Video, and Scream Factory, and Vinegar Syndrome, and Kino are doing with classic movies. and cult movies. Get down, does that with classic and cult hip hop releases. Anyway, Ultra, I can't wait to listen to this. Well, I play deep red and 12 angry men on mute and do my own little dark side of the moon wizard of Oz with these two releases. Anyway, there's your unboxing. Let's get on to a segment we haven't done a little while. The flight lock. (air whooshing) (air whooshing) Flight lock. Oh boy, folks, they're at it. They're at it. Remember what I said a few weeks ago? Remember I said Frontier is gonna go the way of the dodo? Pull up this story if you could. Frontier airlines exit its entire market. The airline says the cancellation of its only flight to this city is just temporary. What city was it? Denver Bay, (air whooshing) Knoxville. So they've canceled their one flight to Knoxville and they're saying that it's exit is temporary. Okay, folks, well, I'm gonna show you why it's not temporary. I got news for you, Knoxville. Frontier ain't coming back, all right? This is Frontier slipping slowly out the door on us, all right? Because here's what? They just got rid of direct flights between Austin and Philadelphia, okay? Frontier was one of two. Only two airlines that flew direct between Austin and Philadelphia. Now, that might not sound like a big deal to you, but as somebody who lives in Austin, who's from Philadelphia, that's a big deal to me. There were two airlines you can fly direct. American and Frontier. Well, guess what? Frontier got rid of their direct flights between Austin and Philadelphia. And you might say, well, that's not the end of the world, okay? But here's what that actually means, okay? I want you to take a look at these flight durations right now. Pull this up, just we got random dates, right? Yeah, scroll down. Yeah. Okay. Okay, okay, here we go. First flight out, 6.30 a.m. We'll take you a mere 22 hours to get from Austin to Philadelphia. You say, yeah, 22 hours, that seems a little long. Maybe I take a different flight. Next flight down, no, we're gonna add some time to that, that's a full day and another four hours. The shortest duration between Austin and Philadelphia is seven and a half hours. You go, all right, maybe there's one a little shorter. Nope, that's the shortest, 11 hours, basically 12 hours is your next best option. Next one after that is 21 hours. This is what's going on, people. This is what's going on. This is another one of the budget airlines that was giving you an affordable option to compete against the big dogs, and the options are going away, and they are gonna go the way that spirit airlines went. Trust me on this, that's what's happening. We're gonna stay on top of this. We're gonna keep following it, but I promise you, there's more to come on the bad news front from Frontier Airlines. Now, here's why that's really interesting to me. I wanna show you right now, now as I mentioned, American is the only other airline that goes direct between Austin and Philadelphia, okay? Here's the average round trip price for an American airline flight between those two cities. All right, this is the other option. Look at these prices. Look, first flight out. Round trip, that is the main cabin. That is basic, no leg room. You're gonna get fucked on your carry on. They're gonna, the whole thing, right? 700 bucks. That's where you're starting. You wanna a little extra leg room, you wanna maybe get on the flight, maybe get on the flight in time, that you're actually able to stash your carry on. 871. This is what we're looking at here. Now, it gets a little bit cheaper for the basic economy if you scroll down. It drops to 600 bucks, which is not cheap, okay? But your main extra, and I really, really wanna specify this. A lot of people go, well, you don't need extra, whatever. Look, folks, it's not extra. It's flying like a human being. It's being able to sit without your knees literally pressed into the seat in front of you without a recline. Without the person reclining, it is being able to sit in a seat without your knees being pressed directly into the one in front of you. God forbid that seat reclines. You wanna do that, you wanna fly like that, you wanna not be in physical discomfort, possibly even pain, if you have an ailment, if you're a tall person, if you're a slightly bigger stature, you're jumping up to 850 minimum, look at this. For a connecting flight, scroll down there. 10 hour and 43 minute flight, main extra is $1358. These are your prices. So, hey, you can't afford that. What's your next choice down? 822. Well, that's still kind of expensive. Can't afford that. Well, you can take frontier and you can fly over the course of 24 hours. It's crazy. Now, pull out of this, because I just took, excuse me, a round trip flight from Austin up to Philadelphia. I went up there to support my good buddy, Shane Gillis, doing his record-breaking show at Lincoln Financial Field. Now, before we got on the flight, this is, this is, this is, I couldn't even believe it. So, you now they're doing the thing on airplanes now where they're like, look everybody. We have a completely full flight. We can't possibly fit all your carry-ons. So, we're gonna have to start checking some of these carry-ons. You guys are familiar that that's happening, right? - Yeah. - Okay. Some people say not a big deal to me. It pisses me off, 'cause some people keep things in their carry-ons that they wanna pull out during the duration of the flight. But also too, the whole reason I'm not checking a bag is to not go through the hassle of checking a bag. Now, it's not a big deal if it's the gate check and you go, look, as soon as you get off, we're gonna have your bag there, we're gonna grab it. It still sucks, because again, the point of a carry-on is, I wanna get on the plane, I wanna get off, I wanna keep it moving. I don't wanna have to stop and deal with any sort of wait time for my bag. Now they're going or they've been going. Well, we're gonna have to check some of these things. Sorry about that, we'll do our best. That then changed, okay? Two, about maybe two years ago, three years ago, two. We need X amount of people to check their bags that is all that there is to it, okay? That's not, this is it. This many people have to check their bags. They're, you have no choice. So come up and volunteer now, or we're just gonna plant it on you when we need to as you're checking in for the flight, okay? This last American flight, it is now evolved to a new level. I never thought I'd see this. They said, we don't have enough room to check bags, we can only check 20 bags. So if you don't help us figure this out right now, we're gonna take people off the plane. That's what they're doing now. Hey guys, get whatever you can on the plane, try to put the stuff in the overheads the correct way, because guess what, we only got room to check 20 bags. So once we hit that limit, that's it. People are coming off the plane. They have figured out a way now to take you off of the goddamn plane when all you did was buy a ticket and have a bag. You did exactly what you were supposed to do, and now they're starting to take away the option of even checking the bag for you, and they're full of shit. They're full of shit. Every airplane is able to check the bag of every single person on that plane. That is how an airplane works. For them now to be saying, we only have room to check 20 other carry-ons. That is bull shit. They are figuring out ways now to take you off the plane, okay? So that is what happened. I don't know if anybody was taken off or not. I don't know, I don't know. I got on the plane, I don't know if that would ever. Didn't happen to me, okay? But I'm now sitting on my plane for my $900 round trip flight. I wanna show some pictures of the plane that I was on. Please, if I could. Look at this. That's the pocket of the seat in front of me. By the way, the seats that have no screens, nothing, whatever. That's the pocket of the seat in front of me in the non-reclining chair I was in. Ripped torn, by the way, that thing had garbage in it that they didn't clean out, okay? This is the condition of the plane. Look at the fucking dirty-ass nasty-ass fucking rugs, right? Go to the next picture. That's just so you can see the dismal state of this fucking plane, no screens. Look at these dirty-ass containers up there. Go back to that. Look at that. They don't even have a screen to do the safety video. They don't even have a screen for the safety video. Go back to that next picture where I circled the thing. I don't know if you can see this. Look it, okay, start at the top circle. Look at those. Dirty ass don't that stains on those containers up there stains okay now if you look down at the miserably depressed airline attendant right there you go see that Look at the condition of the book she's holding up. It's literally again. We got chewed by a dog. Do you see the bent corner? Pull it down pull it down. This is what you're this is what you're paying $900 for This is what you're paying $900 for They sat in the in the thing your seat can be used, you know, they always say that your seat can be used in flotation Where I'd rather fucking drown That hold on to this stain seat in the fucking ocean No screen for the safety videos as as I said that's pathetic seat didn't recline already mentioned it And by the way I'm in an exit row, which is why my seat didn't recline because for some reason in in the front exit road The seat can't recline but in the second exit row it can't but that doesn't matter There's plenty of other seats on the plane where it can't respond where it can't recline This is what pisses me off. This is what pisses me off that exit row used to be in even exchange They said hey, you're gonna get a seat with extra leg room and in exchange for that You're gonna agree to help out if some shit goes down now. They charge you for it They charge and they've been doing that for years They charge you to sit in the exit row because there's extra leg room and then on top of it You still have to help out. What the fuck are these people doing to us? Again, I know that's not new. Guess what else the seat didn't have a charging port No charging no USB no plug in you know fucking old a plane has to be at this point Did I have a charging port? This is disgusting. This is disgusting And before we close out this segment, please let me show you what airplanes used to look like That's a goddamn dance floor That is an overseas flight I think I used to go to England as a fucking dance floor Look at this what has happened What has happened Air planes used to have have Well, they didn't all dance floors. I mean, this is wild, right But they had They had bars. It was classy They had little lounges. It was it was a luxury experience. It was a luxury experience and all of these Disgusting scumbags They're gonna say as they take away our budget options that Flying will return to a luxury experience. They are lying through their teeth. It will not It will not What you just saw in those pictures will be your luxury experience because luxury will only mean you can afford to do it That is it no perks no premiums just Can you pay to play or not? We're fucked people. They I just I just watched a podcast Did anybody else watch the What is that guy channel five? Yeah, the thing he just did where he did the he did the discussion between Hunter Biden and Nick Fuentes They talk in that thing I think cap what's it in Calhoun? Andrew Calhoun. I think Andrew says in that thing They're trying to turn us into isolated individual consumers that don't leave the house. He says it in there It goes right in line what we're talking about. I keep saying this. They don't want us to leave the house people say Well, why that is why? Because of because a population of individual isolated consumers are extraordinarily controllable and they will spend their money And that is it that is where we are headed. This airline shit is proof of it trust me. It's not going away This is awful. Let's move on. Do we have time for one pig talk? Who am I living with this comes from anonymous cock sucker? Dear salacious crumb and scumbags. I wanted you to get your opinion on unsettling interaction I had with my roommate last week It feels imperative to story to the story to highlight that we're a co-ed Gen Z household But not in a romantic relationship. Oh god Gen Z get your shit together live in an orgy house or adult Which is why I didn't have much of think much about it when he asked to go get ice cream a few nights ago until I was sitting in the passenger seat of the car We passed the girl standing in front in the front yard of her house Moments after clocking her he blurt's out. We should kill her Not because I want her to die just so I can all have feels to cut her open like this guys. What is this? What is this? We can't give shine to these stories. This is a real story. I know I'm not reading any more of it. Remember when I said vet the stories vet the stories the pussy house thought that meant he must mean any stories from veterinarians we shouldn't do No, no, no, I meant stories like that don't give them to me I can't read it. I can't read it. Anyway, folks speaking of skin suits Deep red that this probably is a skin suit in it Uh, maybe maybe people are right. Maybe these movies and records are having a bad influence on people Oh god, what is happening anymore? You know what? If we're gonna be locked in our houses, that's somebody needs to be locked in the house. Okay How are you gonna say it related to anything we talked about today? Obsession oh Because of murder Yeah, and I guess just the funny way uh two people are intertwined in their lives with each other. Oh yeah, no hilarious We live in a sexless household. Everybody's walking around their underpants. Nobody can hook up And this guy wants to crawl inside a girl's body for no apparent reason Anyway, folks plenty of vile horrendous in this episode today Uh, but plenty of positive too with the unboxing and shoutouts again to the whole obsession crew great work folks All right people that is our show Uh, go watch.
