Speaker 5and welcome back to the Racing Previews podcast where we will be previewing Oaks Day on Thursday at Flemington for the three-year-old fillies, the 2500 metre contest and of course, we do have Champions Day as well Recently dubbed Champions Day a couple of years ago It was Stakes Day for many a year but now the three Wait for Edge Group Ones It has become Champions Day emulating the day in in England that they have later on in their carnival If you're joining us for the first time, I'm Ben Coluzzi I'm your host, I'm joined by Will Alford and Nico the Machine
Speaker 6Oh, Nico the Machine He's got a nickname
Speaker 5You like that one?
Speaker 6Yeah, it's not bad I can think of one better,
Speaker 5but it had to be a bit of a play on words with Magualta, I thought, so
Speaker 6Yeah, I like it.
Speaker 5The Menace, maybe?
Speaker 6Yeah, the Menace is probably a bit more fitting Armour Guard truck
Speaker 5The truck A big thank you to the listeners out there We had a new career peak two episodes back for Cox Plate Day and we have gone one better for Derby Day as well last week So, comparing Derby Day 2025 to 2026 this year when we've had the Bet365 partnership starting we're getting about 50% more listenership than last year So, a big thank you to everyone out there and obviously, being in studio with these fancy new microphones helps as well Fellas, how's your Cup Week going? Bod, I'll start with you
Speaker 7Fantastic It's going well, is it? Yeah, I've been better physically and mentally We all have No, I'm, yeah, it's been a good week
Speaker 5Yeah, no, I had a great Saturday and Cup Day treated me okay as well Nico, you didn't have too many bets on Cup Day but how was Derby Day?
Speaker 6I had no bets on Cup Day Well I cheered the two horses we were in on the Calcutta from the Monday night and that was it What were you on again? We had 100% of Kislyar Yeah, right and we had a percentage in Hopewell Rock There you go
Speaker 5Saturday? You went to the races Saturday You were in the nursery or? I was in the birdcage In the birdcage? Yeah Wow, high flyer
Speaker 6I was invited into the birdcage so, yeah To say, I probably rose to the occasion Riz There's a bit of that going
Speaker 5on in the birdcage
Speaker 6Well, there is There's plenty of blokes trying to do their Fred best I can guarantee you that Plenty of blokes trying to do their Fred best Not me Not you anymore I'm happily taken but yeah, I had a great day and the punt is added to it It was a good day Tipped up a storm
Speaker 5We did The roaring sun The roaring sun kicked it off
Speaker 6and where we were because the birdcage is like 300 metres away from the finishing post and the TV's in there One TV showed the live feed and then every other TV was 10 seconds behind Yeah So you're trying to watch the race live and you're trying to watch on the feed and then you've got the call over the top It's a bit of a shambles to be honest
Speaker 5but It's not my thing to be honest Yeah I could not think of anything worse
Speaker 6I could see Well, it doesn't matter because I just The way that the day went I just knew what the result was going to be Go on off it That's just the way that it knew Get your hand off it That's just the way that it went So when Frosty went past this I could see that he had a lap full and he was getting out and yeah kicked off a big day So the Roaring Sun and then we rolled it into Lady Ambition or Regular Ambition, sorry
Speaker 5Regular Ambition, Lady Shenandoah
Speaker 6Yeah, it just kept flowing from there Unfortunately, Shiza got beat That was about the only loss we had for the day but we'll touch on that That was a if we have to
Speaker 5That was around a 50 unit swing for me Yeah, see I got to the point where
Speaker 6I still had to go on for a pretty big result but I didn't I didn't really reinvest and I didn't really part with any of my winnings I was I was well well not sober by that stage so I was like yeah I don't need to be doing anything stupid and ruining the day but still hurt enough for getting beat anyway but yeah, Lady Shenandoah was good Yep We'll get to
Speaker 5Bot for some numbers Yeah But we'll start with the Coolmore the next episode A good winner of the Coolmore probably not a not quite home affairs level and not quite what was the other horse at Bolton Tantyrus Not quite Tantyrus
Speaker 7No What level was he?
Speaker 5Was he in secret level? Not quite I don't know
Speaker 7I can't I can't think off the top of my head I haven't done the review yet because I'll do one for the end of Cup Week because it's you know 37 races so it'd be hard to do it for every day Yeah, look it's a good number like 103.5 so you know that puts him in the sort of I don't know who can you compare him to I mean he's if he backed up in the weekend he'd be competitive I think Jolie Starr
Speaker 5probably running similar numbers at the moment
Speaker 7at the moment at her best she's probably a little bit better than that but it's a really good number but the way he just quickened like Zara just pulled out and he just the 4-2 split was just huge and Boubet as well even bigger under focus too
Speaker 5Yeah, you did find him Boubet as well Yeah had in your numbers
Speaker 7Mmm well they don't pay for place but they do they do but you just don't bet on them they do if you back it well that's not me but don't complain next episode was well backed in the end he was he was quite soft throughout sort of the first you know until until Saturday he got out to four bucks and then on the day he was reasonably well backed and started two best horses 320 are there about yeah they did St. Goddard was good
Speaker 5I think he'll win his race the next episode is just a little bit more brilliant than St. Goddard I think at 1200 metres
Speaker 7I agree I think under focus is going to be an absolute certainty in a 1400 metre handicap next year
Speaker 5yeah he's still doing a few things wrong
Speaker 7yeah he's a he's a really nice horse he ran pretty much the exact same figure he did in the Golden Rose it was a different it was a different sort of way of doing they went so fast in the Golden Rose and he stuck on well and ran 1400 metres really well but this time he you know he showed a really nice turn of foot and he couldn't go with them but you know he's a nice horse for the future we definitely haven't seen the bottom of him but yeah next episode was best on the day and I think he's definitely the best three year old
Speaker 5sprinter 100% and he even laid in a little bit that last 150 metres which probably cost him he's still a bit new
Speaker 7a little bit of a margin I don't think we've seen the best of him but how many times have we said that about the Cornwall every year you know
Speaker 5for sure it's disappointing he's not backing up to be fair
Speaker 7well I thought they would because he's only had two runs but I guess he did race that was never going to happen I thought it was a chance when he nominated I thought it was a chance he was in the Noms and he'd only had two runs but he also did you know he raced to May so and Mars got the
Speaker 5Dolan on his favourite
Speaker 6if he wasn't in the same stable as Tempted maybe but that's also true
Speaker 5let's get to the Derby what the day is named after and you were very keen on Stormy Marco and Cormier one of the two to take it out and Stormy Marco don't worry about the barrier he got back and he absolutely bolted in yeah he hosed up
Speaker 7didn't he at the top of the straight it was just over he just knew it was just over by the shouting and good result loved it very happy I watched it with you actually we did it was
Speaker 5that was when my day was just really starting to hit its straps in the Groupons yeah in terms of quality it's probably average
Speaker 7at best oh it's a good Derby I think I think Stormy Marco is actually a nice horse I don't know maybe not a Caulfield I mean the Victoria Derby is always you know these horses are barely three so half of them aren't even you know They're still very mature. So, you know, every year people blow up about the darbies to shouldn't be a good one. And it's not the best Derby. Well, obviously they've got six months of development in the leading into the Sydney Derby. So, you know, the reason the Derby is so good is because we've never seen these horses do it. And that's why the bedding is so good in it because you have to make guesses about them. And, uh, uh, yeah, so the bedding did get
Speaker 5this one spot on. He started a firm enough favor on $4 40 in Cormier. He was a bit of a late drifter.
Speaker 7Wasn't he? He, yeah, he, he was a bit of a, yeah, he, he got out in price a little bit. Um, I was surprised to say that he was obviously highest rated going in, but, um, oh yeah, I was surprised and they got that right. But, um, it's Tommy Marco was firm and they also back to Cignetti, which I, you know, I, I didn't, I didn't back, but I understood the movie. He was closing really well in the, um, in the vase, in the lead up. So, um, they also back skewer who, who, you know, was going to race on pace and, um, yeah, they weren't quite quick here. So they're good. Darby. I'm good. It's a good Darby. It's always a good Darby, but this year it's a good Darby.
Speaker 5Yep. And in the, in the empire Rose lady, Shannon dollar has got back to some of her better form. She's now four wins at 1600 meters. She's won three of them. And the only other one she ran second to all flyer in a race involving pride of Jenny. Uh, obviously this race was marred by a fall. Um, it was good that both horse Ponder Lowey and Harry coffee, you obviously got up to, to ride in the Melbourne cup yesterday. There's just amazing scenes that he was able to do
Speaker 7that, but they're fucking tough. Aren't they? They are.
Speaker 5Was it, was it actually a broken collarbone? It was broken.
Speaker 7Yeah. Imagine breaking a collarbone and having to, I can hold onto a horse for two miles. That is just insane.
Speaker 5Yeah. Remarkable effort. And he got chocolates into sixth. Um, we'll get to that race very shortly, but lady Shannon dollar here, but she, uh, she looked the class man she has bolted in. But I thought the run from Concord, Connie, um, way out of her depth was full of merit.
Speaker 7For sure. Um, I mean, yeah, she, she was always, you know, she's running a figure of one Oh four. So it's the best figure in the day. And you know, she, when, when she was a three-year-old, she was running these sorts of figures and then she sort of lost form of it, not, not lost form, but she'd been running, uh, the same number, but slightly below what she'd done as a three-year-old. And maybe that was down to, obviously she was sprinting, which she's not a sprinter. She wasted six months on her.
Speaker 5I think. I think 12 months.
Speaker 7Yeah. Maybe, um, maybe more, uh, yeah, really nice mayor. She'll, um, I mean, I'm not surprised she's not backing up because, um, they've got all the glow in the race, but is she done now? Is she, what's, what's the plan with her? Because. Um, she'd be, is this
Speaker 5hermitage stud, the green and hermitage, the green, and I would imagine she'd still raise on to ins next year.
Speaker 7No, no. As in like this preparation or this
Speaker 5preparation, I would think she's
Speaker 7done. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. She's racing on. I mean, it's great.
Speaker 6I said, she's arguably going as good as she ever has looked as good as it. Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 7For sure. I, um, it's great kind of like, everyone's always sort of had the opinion that Concord Connie is this good. And it's an amazing training effort to, to have a horse so lightly race run to the figure she did. And, you know, that number is pretty much what wins a typical empire rose, but I mean, they've absolutely ruined her rating now. And she's going to be, I know, but like this, it kind of sucks because she's such a good horse and. She's going to be hard to place. Has she been re-rated yet?
Speaker 6I don't think she has. Not really. Cause she's not, she's not a ratings horse anyway.
Speaker 7So. Well, I know, but you may as well win your way through. Now she's going to like, she, she started in a 78 this prep.
Speaker 5So she, uh, Lady Chandel was 116 radar going into the weekend.
Speaker 7She was going to get, she was meant to give her 15 kilos.
Speaker 5If it was more, I think more than that. Concord Connie was an 86 radar. So that is 30 handicap ratings points for her to start second favorite and run second is a huge effort.
Speaker 7Well, the market knows how. How good she was.
Speaker 5Like everyone, for sure, but for sure, but it's still, you know, she had that one big peak at Flemington over 1400 meters and she's gone better than that, which I think it's a hat tip.
Speaker 6I don't think it's, I don't think it's the end of the world. She can just go to a listed race. If she wants to start at the bottom of the tree and just. She'll be rated low hundreds off. Pick her up way up from there, but yeah.
Speaker 5What's the maximum they can get? Like they can't get more than 20 handicap. I'm not, she wouldn't get that much. She'd get 15 or something.
Speaker 6Yeah. I don't think he would be worried. I don't think they're worried.
Speaker 7No, I just. I just think that could have won a whole lot more money, but I guess that's not the thing they're thinking about.
Speaker 5Yeah. Well, I guess I don't even know what there is in terms of handicaps in the autumn anyway. Like you've got your, your Rupert Clarks and your Turek in the spring. I don't know. It's interesting chat. What other good performances were there on the day?
Speaker 7Regal Ambition. She is a superstar. She is. Like that, the way she let down at the 400 meters. Oh my God.
Speaker 5Why the drift? It was almost stinky. I wasn't going to back her. $3. I think it was, I think it was map inspired.
Speaker 7That's what it was. I think, I think people were keen to take her on because there wasn't plenty of speed and, and there wasn't, but she got out of trouble because her last 400 meters was just unbelievable.
Speaker 6Like she ran into a track bias last time. She should have won the thousand guineas.
Speaker 7Yeah. She's a superstar and she will win what she wants next prep.
Speaker 5Is your gut feel 1400 meter mile or do you think further?
Speaker 7I think she'll win the Australian. I think she'll win the Australian guineas. Wow. That's a call.
Speaker 6Yeah. She, she might beat the boys. She's, she's proper.
Speaker 7Well, cause the, the Randwick guineas is a week prior or week after. So like all woven and all those will be there under focus. All the top horses that will be racing over the mile. Nothing's going to be in Victoria.
Speaker 5You might get one or one or two back up.
Speaker 7You might get one or two. But it probably won't be the winner. She, she is like. You know what I'll do with her? There's, there's, she's run 97.4 and there's a whole lot of plus on that. Like she's at least a 102. Two horse at least.
Speaker 6Yeah. I'd go and win the Australian guineas. And then I'd go to the Australia cup. Yeah. That's and, and the Hayes. I'm serious. I'd go, I'd go Australian guineas, Australian cup. So would I. Test out 2000 meters. And if she runs 2000, well, there's, you find the Cox plate.
Speaker 7Lindsay Parker, the history with the Australia cup as well. They've won, they won the race about 15 million times. I won it two years in a row with Harlem.
Speaker 6Yeah. And that'll be the last one of your preparation anyway. So if it, if she doesn't run 2000, well, so be it. And you know exactly what you do in the autumn. Whether you go to an Empire Rose.
Speaker 5Yeah. Earlier this year.
Speaker 6She's probably the golden Eagle. She's the, she's the horse that you want to back in a golden Eagle for next year.
Speaker 5I took 50 to one or a hundred to one. She's alibi in the, uh, the Australian cup. Obviously she ended up going to Sydney, but it's not about shout, not about shout from you blokes. We've just had virtual circle come up on the TVs here, but who won the, uh, the Clayton cup today, I believe in very heavy conditions. I don't believe you backed him. No, I didn't. Come on, but how did you not have? Because I didn't see the right. You're too busy doing form. Yeah. Oh yeah. Anyway, it's a busy week. Jay Mac had four winners on Derby day. The other one was flying for fun. Who was expressed in betting to start $2 30. She was good. She drew the right side.
Speaker 7I didn't think it'd be so well. So yeah, she's, um, yeah, she's, she's
Speaker 5a nice enough sprinter and she's got a good
Speaker 7turn. Bridal Waltz has gone terrible. She's done now. She's done. Yeah. It's so confusing. She started off one more time than me. I gave her one more chance.
Speaker 5I ended up saving on the winner, but, uh, it got very short late.
Speaker 7She's, she was so good for the first two runs. And then, um, yeah, there was obvious signs of aggression in the Northwood plume. And then, I mean, that was just terrible. She's, she's got life anyway.
Speaker 5Question. Moody Coleman, two from their last 50.
Speaker 7It's not a good time to go to for 50.
Speaker 5Bridal Waltz cast. Are they cast this spring as well?
Speaker 7I don't know about the cast. I don't know.
Speaker 5I know she's otherwise been unlucky, but their runners are not performing at
Speaker 6the moment. To be fair. I don't have that two for 50 stat isn't exactly.
Speaker 5All right, let's go a hundred.
Speaker 6It doesn't look no, but you have to break it. The stats. It's not as simple as two for 50. You need to look what's the starting price profile is. You need to see what horses they are.
Speaker 5Six from their last hundred. It's a lot deeper than that. Negative 55% return on investment last.
Speaker 6How many of those horses have been sub four, sub $3?
Speaker 5I don't know, but they're usually a very good camp in terms of placement as well. So they are, that's just a fact. They are underachieving by the market.
Speaker 6It doesn't, it doesn't look great, but it's, I think you'd have to dig a little bit deeper than that.
Speaker 5Uh, yeah, fair enough.
Speaker 6Um, well their, their best horse has had a horrid preparation. One from four.
Speaker 5Yeah. She's been unlucky the last couple.
Speaker 6Um, yeah, I mean, she wasn't
Speaker 5unlucky too back, but she just ran into a proper 2000 meter test where land legend.
Speaker 6And there's merit to say that the whole preparation has been a disaster.
Speaker 5Yeah. It's been a stuff up.
Speaker 6You went to Sydney when that wasn't originally the plan. You come back to Melbourne.
Speaker 5You called it at the start of the prep.
Speaker 6I'm not going to blow my own trumpet here, but I am, but there was, there was, there was no need to go to Sydney. If she was mine, you just go with the MZ, you win the Maccabi. Then you go third up into the Eagle, have a trial in between. Boom. That, that was, that would have been a much more smarter preparation to me.
Speaker 5And if you were going to go to Sydney, go, go on Everest day. Well, and that's the only time you take it.
Speaker 6If you want to go to Sydney, go third up when you rock hard fit against autumn glow and have a crack then. It just, it never made sense to me while I went first up, they came back, got away with it, didn't matter. And then they obviously had the, uh, she went super, but that was far from ideal. That wasn't what. the vision was. no and then well i i don't really want to talk it was a train wreck you want to know my thoughts you can just go to twitter we haven't already seen it we haven't talked about the golden eagle
Speaker 5but it was obviously a train wreck for she's alibi um skyhook he's he's had a tremendous campaign best horse in the race yeah well that's what his trainer said don't fucking i gave it to his life during the week saying you can't be saying things like that look he's got the win i still don't believe he's the best horse in the race and he's not but what he what he could claim to is being one of the more consistent horses in the race and i remember posting something during the week on uh the form king ratings of lady shenandoah and skyhook that they are just solid rocks around their their sort of mark and they've both probably improved a little bit on what they've been doing recently as well but melbourne cup point of law what a victory this was tell us about the race shape and just how weird it was to have royal supremacy benny allen wheeling and dealing out in front and the chasing pack not going particularly fast well i
Speaker 7said it on radio this morning the um it was yeah it was really weird the they went quite quickly down the straight for the first time and then once they all sort of found their positions at about the 2200 meter mark to about the 1600 meter mark which is where our royal supremacy created his massive lead was actually the slowest part of the entire race so he essentially stole 10 lengths for them and he was going i think i think it was like essentially about 13 3 to 13 5 in that sort of section and the others are hardly breaking um 14 seconds for each furlong it's just they i think they were so lucky the jockeys in behind that he didn't steal it and and that benny allen wasn't riding a better chance or a horse that stayed two miles because if he did cheese it would have been ugly it reminded me so much of um pride of jenny's queen elizabeth where yes he might have gone slightly too quickly but they just they just went like obviously it's a bit different because jenny went way too fast i think he was probably i don't have numbers yet to back myself up but i can guarantee you he went a little bit faster than standard and the rest were going way slower and all the jockeys came back in the in the post race and they were going way slower and they were going even slower than standard and they were going way slower and they were going way slower than standard and we're saying oh the pace was too slow my horse didn't settle well you're employed to do something about it like yeah um i think it's a tricky
Speaker 5one with that because yeah i
Speaker 7know obviously
Speaker 5there's only there's only a few jockeys and a few horses that can really i know dictate how they
Speaker 7can't jump over them i know but
Speaker 5like unless a few of them make mid-race moves which no one really
Speaker 7wants to do it yeah no one wants to do it and no one wants to be the the one that drags them up to him and that's the most that's that that statement does not make any sense to me at all leading is the best spot in racing unless there's a horse 20 meters in front of you
Speaker 5like it just doesn't make any sense like royal supremacy running fifth is completely overachieved in terms of his market price and if if twilight payment was in this race rather than royal
Speaker 7supremacy we don't want to buy 15 lengths he would have won it easy yeah um yeah remarkable but the winner was just like that like it reminded me a lot of protectionist um around the fastest last 200 meters i'm pretty sure protectionist no we don't um i think i think cross counted as well fastest last 200 meter the meeting so it's happened a couple times but obviously there's no group one sprints or group two sprints on the on melbourne cup day so that has something to do with it but
Speaker 5but you can't run the fastest last 200 of the day if if the if the pace you were going early was
Speaker 7brutal no obviously not but still i think so the so land of language and the other one uh royal supremacy was out going at his speed and he started deteriorating from about the 1200 meters got slower he quickened up between about the 600 i think just for a brief moment um and the rest of them were going like 12.5 uh at a bit from the 1200 to the thousand and then they all sort of shit themselves and like this horse is 20 lengths in front of us and we've been going slowly inside and uh for the entire race and and from the 1200 to the thousand from the and then the thousand to the 800 meters they shaved a second off in a furlong like they just put the foot down and the one that could uh pretty much in a thousand meter sprint for the uh the the peloton i guess you could call it and um a point of law just thrived on it he's an aerobic freak they're just you look at the sectional times and it's just it's pretty much just 11 5 11 5 11 3 5 11 5 it's just sustained speed he was so fast and that last sort of 300 meters you could see him quicken and um god he he's a good looking horse too and he just absolutely hammered him if they went faster i think he wins by further yeah i'm a bit
Speaker 5annoyed by myself that i didn't have a bigger bet on him i had something small on but i found some of the other internationals yeah on top he
Speaker 7was he ended up he's the first favorite to win the race since firante in 2013 he was well backed he was he wasn't favorite on on race morning that was um hopo rock who was heavily supported but in the last i think i think i i had a bet i backed him on um saturday sort of like maybe maybe it was like 12 o'clock one o'clock and um and he was you know sort of maybe it was after that maybe so in like the last sort of hour and a half of betting he was about 10 bucks which is you know the price i took and then he started you know seven well i think seven dollars seven bucks shorter with um our friends at bet 365 and um yeah yeah just just heavily backed and last one
Speaker 5what you posted that it was a great feel on cup day one of the best atmospheres 97 000 talk to us about that i
Speaker 7wanted to say this that this singular greatest uh day on course that i've ever had and i've been to i've been to everest day and with a sore head oh i was cast but it's still like objectively though but it was the singular greatest i've ever had on course it was so good 97 000 people there you know i was sitting i was standing there um actually with my mom and we were um what we're standing there um just outside the the mounting yard on the lawn and uh robbie williams was performing and i was just looking around and there literally was not a space it was just people all on top of each other just screaming um you know robbie williams songs and it was just um that was great it was i actually i don't you know you might disagree with this but um i think that was better than you know sweet like for me that was better than sweet caroline it was it was like basically a sort of 10 10 minute concert and people were just screaming and dancing and and then the race built up and you know the national anthem and all that sort of stuff and then the horses come out and the race goes on and there's just 97 000 people screaming when the gates open melbourne cup day is the best it happens every year everyone forgets how good the melbourne cup day is melbourne cup days and then it happens and then everyone's like oh my fucking god how good is it you're up to the cup that's good it's the best day of the year and
Speaker 5kieran ma had five of the top six i believe he's the first trainer ever nico to train the trifecta one two three in a melbourne cup unbelievable unbelievable yeah yeah for a
Speaker 6fleeting moment at the 500 i thought i'm not coming to the podcast tomorrow night i'm not coming to work tomorrow why whiz is gonna win the cup oh right you thought you're gonna be out well just like this as the race sort of unfolded i thought there was a moment he's a long way in front there was a moment and he's not he's not slowing down no i didn't think
Speaker 5it was over because it
Speaker 6was i knew that the straight was gonna feel like forever but for a little moment 500 i thought yeah because
Speaker 7this is gonna
Speaker 6happen because i was
Speaker 7looking at the sectionals on the on the big screen and i was like geez they're not going that fast no and then he sort of gave a little he gave a little bit of a kick like he wasn't going for him at the like the seven eight hundred meters and he was sort of traveling and he gave a little bit of a kick on the turn and he was still 10 15 lengths clear i'm like shit he's gonna do it yeah it
Speaker 5wasn't like land legend it wasn't like he was he was gonna go through the field it was um it was exciting it was and good on benny for for riding it
Speaker 6it was a great ride 100 it was it was a great ride um yeah the uh the suspension is just a ridiculous thing the rule's gonna change how many over did you go a couple he'd like five yeah seven or something but i mean you can't argue with that no you can't like he's done he's broken the rule but the rule is so outdated it's not funny like the the same amount of strikes permitted in a two hundred meter race is just diabolical because the way that a horse needs to wind up and go through its paces in a thirty two hundred meter race versus a thousand meter race is completely different yeah and it's just ridiculous like not as many fast twitch fibers oh it's just anyway that's just a topic for another day but
Speaker 5last last thing but what if you had to i know we've got no numbers right now he ran 101 to win the geelong cup what is your sort of gut feel
Speaker 7i don't know um one oh i'll put you on the spot a bit here five what is between 105 and 107 i'd say yeah wow that is big and it's good that maybe big either i don't know now that
Speaker 5he's with ma he's here to stay he'll probably be on more of a wait for age path
Speaker 7yeah i mean it's hard with him because the australian calendar is just terrible for him it's just the tankard for him and it's not worth as much as like
Speaker 5a qe so a lot of them don't go and then
Speaker 7they're not going to go they're not going to race him in a sydney cup or anything so
Speaker 5well he's got he's got the speed for 2000 though probably
Speaker 7um i mean he'd want to he'd want a bit of pace on that get a pacemaker or something for him so yeah royal supremacy
Speaker 5to the uh queen elizabeth oh well land legend will work too yeah true light infantry man there's a few of them we'll
Speaker 7keep them racing all right
Speaker 5that is uh the sort of results summed up let's get to oak state got a bit of a special episode for you tonight where we'll be going through both days had a decent deluge of rain today boys i live in the northwest unlike you two very close to flemington racecourse probably only a minute about a 10 minute drive maybe even five minutes as the bird flies um not far at all only a couple kilometers from the racecourse we would have had probably a dump of at least five mils of rain earlier today i think we will be on you but maybe a soft five good four track tomorrow it'll just be slightly edge off but the rail goes out to the six meter position but how do you think it's been racing so far this carnival
Speaker 7excellent it has been i think down the straight has been an advantage it's definitely been an advantage to draw wide
Speaker 5yeah which wasn't the case on cox plate
Speaker 7day no it was an event or a perceived i think it was an advantage to be drawn inside on on cox plate day but it's definitely an advantage to be drawn wide so far and i probably think you're going to have a lot of fun with that i think you're going to have a lot of fun with that um that it'll continue to be that way for the remainder of the
Speaker 5carnival yeah so thursday rail out six i believe it goes out maybe eight or nine on um champions day could be could be even 10 i don't think they've officially put a i'll check racing australia now um we only have moderate wins tomorrow which shouldn't be an issue but i've looked on saturday and we could be having up to 30 kilometer south southwesterly winds which will be an advantage for the leaders in the circle races and down the straight you want to have a little bit of cover and outside barriers are an advantage so we'll start on thursday rail six good for at the moment i'm not sure if they've done a track update after that rain it could be edging into the the soft five range uh bet 365 one of the specials is now you get tote plus 10 with the new one pool that is not only on win and place odds but it's also on all exotics so not just your trifectas quinellas exactors but also your quarters and early quarters and that did a huge favor for me winning the early quality on cup day i won about another 300 400 with that extra 10 so it is a beauty start with race number three on oaks day and this is the chester manifold time-honored race over the mile tabby time four dollars from ensudo nine dollars into six dollars fifty we have had a fair bit of deductions with the scratching of baclue harry's yacht seven dollars end cap seven dollars for roche eight dollars and we've had a fair bit of deductions with the scratching of baclue harry's yacht seven and just folks received a bit of specking as well at eight dollars as well but take it away
Speaker 7and zuto was excellent behind surf and bird obviously we've talked about this race where uh astral flame got away with a really easy lead uh and that wasn't reflective of and the like positions throughout the the field weren't reflective of the pace uh he was second last and ripped home over the last sort of 800 meters and uh he was settled closer here under blake shin and um yeah i think i think it should be favorite so i like him but i think i think um just folk gets him really well he's it's remarkable how well he's going as a 10 year old is he
Speaker 5in career best form or
Speaker 7not quite no he's not career best form like i mean he's he's done a lot of placing recently which looks good on the form card but i think you know he's not running the ratings he was when he was a bit younger yeah fair enough but he's like to have to have to be a 10 year old and still be racing that well it's it's remarkable like it was third in the kingpin race and i think he's going to be he was 10 beaten 10 lengths but third in the king charles and beat the epson winner yeah it was an epson or don cast or whatever it was um i always get those two mixed up very good horse yeah no he is a very good
Speaker 5horse we're gonna champion maybe not quite that um race for english bracelet we're not playing into but sass appeal can you tell the punters to get involved here at a dollar 65 is she simply too good or can a horse like polymnia at four dollars run her down
Speaker 7uh no i won't be telling people to backstop me i'm not going to backstop me i'm not going to backstop me i'm not going to sass appeal at all 60 um but this looks like right she'll get a a really a really easy lead i think and that could be it that could be it like it could be like a first start run where they just went so slow and she just kicked away that's aware of it yeah and the main danger polymnia uh i'd say probably settles toward the rear of the field so yep i think sass appeal will have the advantage and just be too quick yep she was a good run in the empire rose she was
Speaker 5do you remember back to the the start of the year when she was in the empire rose spring where we were going i put out a poll
Speaker 7yeah concord connie or sass
Speaker 5appeal yeah i ended up running second in fourth in the empire rose which is not a bad effort i just bumped into a very good horse but concord connie's probably proven she's got the more
Speaker 7upside now yeah definitely
Speaker 5i've just gone on to the uh the flemington live track website and officially it is a soft five right now and they've had five mils of rain today so it'll be
Speaker 7perfect for tomorrow should be perfect there's meant to be a lot of rain on them and med van be very cold or
Speaker 5saturday yeah on saturday it's a top of 14 degrees and 3 to 15 mils so we'll get to that very shortly we do move on to race number five here though the sigma trophy 1800 meter handicap and perisher is our dollar 90 favorite from vip $4.60 nobler $7.50 and then it's $19 and longer the rest so
Speaker 7say $1.90 $1.70 i
Speaker 5thought you said $1.90
Speaker 7i was gonna say that's a big um yeah big uh discrepancy yeah it's $1.70 pretty much across across the board we
Speaker 5have had the big scratchy yeah of uh fear not or i think that's how you say it if you're not coming out and he's going to run saturday um this favorite's gotten pretty short now but gee it was a it was an emphatic debut win or debut win in australia it was
Speaker 7but my god it's short i mean it's been heavily backed so well done if you got the early price and uh james mcdonald and kira mar it's a it's been a a combination to find over the uh over the candle or not a combination but the two are hitting some targets um look i think he's way too like he's one of those ones he's had one start in australia he absolutely bolts it in the rating's good but it's not good enough to price him that short but i can't really but he'll improve on it yeah he'll improve on it but i'm not i'm you know i'm not i'm not going to take a dollar 70 i don't usually better that price anyway and um i couldn't i couldn't mark in that price without forcing it and i'm not going to do it so there's been there's so many races there's 37 races across the flemington carnival it's okay to just leave a dollar 70 favorite even even if it might be a much better it might be a group horse and a
Speaker 5handicap but it might be it might be another top ranked in the same colors and also a gray who did run a dead heat in an epsom nico i think if i get two isn't
Speaker 7it this it is yeah yeah i think
Speaker 5if i get even money i'll probably back
Speaker 6him yeah it's it's short enough now at the price but um hopefully edges back out a little bit but yeah i'm keen to be with him price dependent um he looks uh he
Speaker 5looks good yeah i agree he was um much too good for nobler last start who is on the third line of betting here we skip race number six or do you want to quickly talk about this race i know trav noonan and nico noonan have a horse in this and flying mickey at 23 to 1 in the uh the country cup race it's six dollars 50 the field you had their horse in third place who looks set to peak
Speaker 7yeah it's um it's racing really well it's um this race is impossible though um it is so yeah i like this race it's a good initiative like good for the the country trainers and um you know i'm sure whoever wins it'll be a a good story and all that but it's it's a hard betting race and um i probably i probably won't have a bit here no i don't i don't have sorry i don't have very much confidence in my prices rosa at a rower what is doing they put up 60 to 1 like do they put up 60 they put up 60 to 1 for rosa not our friends no they're way too switched on for that 61 the green
Speaker 5machine that is um yeah i i saw that and
Speaker 7i thought i think that must be a mistake but no it's real like she'll probably lead like how i don't know how you could possibly like it's mark zara's riding and he's beaten he ran second to the favorite last time he gets a weight swing
Speaker 5i backed it last time look it did have the bias in favor last time well so did belmo's on what was your top three in this race oh good question um should i just go
Speaker 7to betsy yeah
Speaker 5please um betsy.com.au we go to race
Speaker 7oh i think it was belmaison then sulek and then flying mickey flying mickey rosa and then rosa i can't cannot believe i saw that i thought it was not real but it is there you go crazy we
Speaker 5move on to race number seven this is the red roses it's always one of the great features on oaks day as is the graze race which we haven't really touched on yeah we need to do
Speaker 7that that's my one of my favorite races do you have
Speaker 5a tip in the graze race number race number two the sub-zero handicap 1400 meters
Speaker 7um let me see how does how does
Speaker 5you're not the king not have an apostrophe on its name it absolutely shits me
Speaker 7what was that horse um gatsby's yeah that one i knew what
Speaker 5you're talking about straight
Speaker 7away uh uh you're not the king will improve it's a nice horse while waited uh this prep with being beyond with beyond baker's been transferred uh really nice horse but um short short speaking of they're all um misty speaking of beyond
Speaker 5Drunk at the call of the card at like midday.
Speaker 7He has to be an alcoholic.
Speaker 5I think he's been drunk all week. He called So You Are, So You Think. And he said it's not one of the better horses he's trained in terms of ability. But he accidentally called it So You Think. Anyway, good on him.
Speaker 7Yeah. Misty Whisper didn't mind. It was well beaten last time. But it's always been a horse that I've had an opinion on. It won a maiden one day. You're a sectional merchant. Yeah. Well, it ran massive time one day. It was beating by Immortal Triumph. It was a horse that I had time for. But that horse has just done nothing since. And then it bolted in at Seymour with massive time. So that's a really nice horse, essentially. Harry Coffey's riding. I don't know. So explain to me. So I thought what he'd do is just have one ride and then that's it. And then he'd just go off and recover from having a broken collarbone. Or is he just continuing to ride?
Speaker 6I don't think it's business as usual.
Speaker 7I think. I don't know.
Speaker 5Got the jabs. Got the good stuff. And he's back in the saddle. I'll tell you what. I'll tell you what. Harry Coffey, he wouldn't have passed the scans if he was a horse on Tuesday.
Speaker 7He's as tough as a belly bull. I was talking to this with someone on Monday night. If I was an owner of Chocolates, there is no way I'd be happy with Chocolates. Regardless of, you know, they have a connection together. They've, he's been great for them, but like it's a Melbourne calf. I know. But if someone's riding my horse. It was crazy. But who are you going to cop?
Speaker 5Like a T.O.
Speaker 7Nugent instead? Karen McAvoy. I'd rather half a hand Harry. Could Karen McAvoy ride the way?
Speaker 6If Harry says he's right to go, he's right to go. Yeah. I'm backing him in.
Speaker 5So Misty Whisper, you're tipping him in the greys race. Oh yeah. I could back it. Something small. Yeah. Yeah. Alabama, Alabama Fox half interested me, but. I don't know. I probably won't touch the race, but it's always a good one to watch on Oaks day.
Speaker 7It's a great spectacle.
Speaker 5Another great spectacle is the red roses group three for the three-year-old Phillies. There's been some good results in this race as well. I think charm stone might've won a couple of years ago, um, under Damien Lane. That was a fantastic result. Sequin is our dollar 80 favorite on bet. Three, six, five from scintillation $6 50. It's a drifter semantics went up $17. So that was obviously too big. It's into tens calamari. Ring's got a bit of talent. Twelves and lady Catalina is $15. Sequin absolutely killed them last time at Caulfield. Really good writing. Um, she even managed to get a little bit keen and still finished off super off, off a decent tempo bolted in two and a half lengths. I think she's drawn the right side down the straight in barrier 10. I think she's a little bit short right now. If you do like her, I would wait. This is one of those ones, but that you love where you've taken an early price and then you tell the punter. I was that it's too short now, which is what I've done, but I think she is going to be too much too good for these. Um, she is very, very well in with 56 kilos and, uh, I think she'll be too good with J Mac in the saddle. We do it. Did have four winners on Derby day as well. I think she'll just balance up down the outside and go bang. I think the one to run down is probably semantics in the same good often colors, however, secret. I think she's too good. And she'll be in the podcast. Multi later. And you go,
Speaker 6yeah, she's, um, she's short enough now, but, uh, she does look to most likely we are. Um, yeah, she's, uh, yeah, she's, she's just a good, good, good bet. I reckon, um, she's the best horse in the race. Not that that means that she's over the line, but, uh, yeah, I haven't backed her individually at this point in time. Um, but I have taken, uh, the podcast multi. Yeah. She's leg one off. So quite happy just to have her win and, um, add a bit of juice to the second leg, which I think is, uh, a certainty. And that is Proxima Deo. Yes. I'm sure when the Oaks, she's just better than, uh, she's just better than them. Yeah. 2,500 will be no issues. I think the arm is very short and I think Proxima Deo has a lot of class and I think she will piss in.
Speaker 5Beautiful. We'll get to the Oaks preview in a, in a minute. In a short second. But that was just for the clip up bot. And if we want to clip that podcast multi up. No, yeah. Um, I think. Your thoughts on Sequin?
Speaker 7I think she's a head case. Um, and. So it was a Melbourne cup winner. Yeah. Well, that didn't stop. But, but it's a dollar 90 and I got the right man on board to, um, help with that. But, um, I wouldn't take a dollar 90 about a horse. It's an absolute head case. And, um. To be fair.
Speaker 6I probably wouldn't take a dollar 90 about waking up tomorrow. Odds odds is not really what's go.
Speaker 5Um. I think that's the only, that's the only knock. If she throws a header around down the straight. Yeah. And that doesn't finish off.
Speaker 7That's the knock. But she, on, on form, she's very much the, um, one to beat. I think Nishioka is a really, like, I think Nishioka is probably one of the better maidens in Victoria, uh, Australia or Victoria as well. Um, she was excellent. She was, I think she finished fastest behind, um. The breast cancer horse. Sorry. I don't know what it's called.
Speaker 5Breast cancer colors. Yeah. It's not coming to me. Yeah. The thing you backed. Yeah. Caddington. Yeah. Caddington. There you go. Yeah. Beautiful. Let's move on to the Crown Oaks group on set weights for the three-year-old fillies. It is over 2,500 meters and it is worth a pretty penny. A couple mil. Let me tell you Proxima Dea is your $2.30 favorite. She is unbeaten. She is five from five. She's trained by David Payne, who knows a thing or two about training a favorite in the Oaks with Montefiolier. Diarmus on the second line, $3. It was really well backed, probably on cup day. Uh, and now it's just getting back out to that $3 mark. Proxima Dea did get out to $2.72, $2.80 at one stage. Ice Lady, $7.50. Quick Finish, $11. Your color, 26s and Tharwa is $29. Now big one here, but a few of these are coming off a really fast run wakeful stage. So, if you're looking for a run that's going to be a little bit more aggressive, you're going to want to look at the Ice Lady. They're going to be a little bit more aggressive. They could go bang or they could go bust off a four day backup. What's your thoughts on those runners?
Speaker 7Yeah, it could, it could hinder them. It could also favor them. I don't know. It's a guessing game. I'm not going to read into it too much, I think. But I just, I just don't understand why Proxima Dea is not like odds on. I, uh, she'll start. She, she, I think she will start. I think she would probably start at $1.80, $1.90. She's just the best horse in this race by a long way. Um, Diarmus, they went weirdly fast in the wakeful, like way too fast. Uh, I did not see that coming. I thought they'd go really slowly because that's what they like to do ahead of a big peak, uh, peaking run, which is obviously the Oaks. And they just went so fast and just stopped essentially. And Diarmus was best placed to cope with that. Um, really well ridden. Last start, but I think it's too short. I think it had the run of the race and how much do, how much do I think it's going to improve? I don't think it's a natural. Is it always going here or is this an afterthought? Oh, I don't know. I don't know if it's an afterthought.
Speaker 5I don't think it was an afterthought. Like if they're running in the wakeful a lot of the time, they are. Well, the talk was that Farwah and
Speaker 6Your Colour were the two Oaks fillies.
Speaker 5Yeah. I mean, you've got to have a crack after winning it, don't you?
Speaker 6Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 7But I think that the thousand guineas was, um, she's not running at $2,500. I don't think so.
Speaker 5Ice lady or Diarmus?
Speaker 7Diarmus. I think, but I mean, it's hard to put it this way.
Speaker 5If you had to ask Chris Waller, what his lead up from, what he wanted that to look like. I don't think it would have looked like that.
Speaker 6Not that. Another hundred meters on the weekend. She gets beat.
Speaker 5Yeah. By bot's tip at a hundred to one. Way back at a hundred to one.
Speaker 6I had it in my early quaddie.
Speaker 5Yeah. If it had a one, it would have been, Tricky Mickey. Did anyone do a Quinella?
Speaker 6Did you do a Quinella run? No, a few of the boys did 230 to one.
Speaker 5Why is she not running here?
Speaker 6Oh, she probably didn't get a run.
Speaker 5No, she didn't nominate for the Oaks.
Speaker 6She must've backed up.
Speaker 5She didn't nominate.
Speaker 6Yeah, but she mustn't have, uh, I'm not sure. She ran unbelievable and she's got 2,500 written all over.
Speaker 5She would have been an absolute bolter in this race.
Speaker 6Yeah. Well, she, yeah. She could just go to Adelaide and win the Oaks over there.
Speaker 5It's only 2,000 meters in that.
Speaker 7By Johannes Vermeer, a good old girl. Is that right?
Speaker 5It's only 2,000 meter Oaks in Adelaide?
Speaker 7Yeah. The 2001 meters, I think. Um, sorry. Yeah. Uh, anyway, she's a boss. Yeah. She, uh. She, um, she's by Johannes Vermeer, who was a, um, Lloyd Williams horse for, by Adelaide.
Speaker 5Yeah, he ran second in a car? I think so, yes.
Speaker 6Um. You tell bots on Struggle Street, he's all, he's all out over there. He does not have the same pep. No, he doesn't. He's racing flat.
Speaker 5Tell us about the winner then, Proxima Deo. She's four from, she's five from five. She's better than Montefiglia. That's a big call. I don't know about that. It is a large call, but she sat on speed.
Speaker 6After tomorrow, she'll be one step closer to that statement being.
Speaker 5You look at her. Her, as a filly. Solidified. She, there's not much of her. She's built like a stale.
Speaker 6Yep. I've told, I've told you that this was the Oaks filly since a long way out. You know that. Yeah. The day that she won at Gosford or Wyoming, wherever it was. Nico loves an unbeaten horse. Well, I, it's not like I've clicked onto her coattails now. That was her third ever race start. I told you that.
Speaker 5No, you did.
Speaker 6It was flat on Cahing Rising. She's had a good double going.
Speaker 5The thing I love about her as well is even in the gloaming stage. She's just a winner. Two back in that bunch. finish, it didn't look like she was going to win until the 100 meter mark. She was cast on the corner. And she just kept fighting, fighting, fighting back. She wanted to fetch her ball. She wanted to fetch the ball, did she? She wanted to fight and fetch. I think from the barrier, she just goes forward. She sits somewhere on the speed and.
Speaker 6I don't think it matters. I'd be surprised if she's
Speaker 5not winning, to be honest.
Speaker 6Yeah. She's a very good animal. Good filly.
Speaker 5And by Tarzano. He knew a thing or two about winning a derby as well.
Speaker 7Full sister to Gypsy Goddess, who won the Queensland derby. There you go.
Speaker 6She'll be better than her sister and better than her stable companions. Bloodlines previews.
Speaker 7Well, Gypsy Goddess ran third in the Golden Eagle behind Fangirl and. She did too. And I wish I win. She's a very good horse proximate now.
Speaker 5The last race, that is the Oaks summed up. I won't go through the full race. Let's get to a break very shortly before we do Champions Day. Century Stakes. Ray Magnerio, $2.80 seems very short here, Bot. Back to $1,000.
Speaker 7It does. Doesn't it? I've been thinking, I think you said it last week, that he's looking for 1,400 meters. Now he's back to
Speaker 5$1,000. Look, he has dual accepted on Saturday in the Champion Sprint, so he's not. He's not guaranteed to be running tomorrow, but if he is, he looks like a horse we want to take on.
Speaker 7Yeah, I mean, he's still a better chance of winning this than
Speaker 5the Champions. 100%.
Speaker 7He's got no chance in that, but.
Speaker 5Like Bev's 9 are ice cool. You probably could back to beat him.
Speaker 7Yeah. I think, don't hope, do. He was in the right spot last start, but I mean, at the prices, he looks maybe a little bit too big, but ice cool, oh my God. He was beaten last time. He ran the worst. Speaking of head cases. Fucking hell. But I think Bev, yeah. I think maybe Bev's 9 should be favorite because it's going to be up on speed, run a peak last start. It's only had 10 starts. It's improving all the time. 1,000 meter horse. Draw on the right side. Yeah, that helps too.
Speaker 5Yeah, I like it. If I'm having a bet, I'm probably backing Bev's 9. We're moving on to Champions Day. Now, Saturday. And as mentioned earlier, there could be 3 to 15 mils of rain coming on Saturday. So I would be doing my form for a soft track. Maybe not quite a heavy track, but probably the middle of the soft range. We could be playing on anywhere from a 5 to a 7. So let's call it somewhere in the middle and go a 6. So the rail will be out. We don't know how far just yet. It could be 8 meters. It could be even 10 meters. I'd have to probably look back on last year. But notoriously, this day can play a little bit more on speed. Think of Alligator Blood's year, a couple of those other years. However, if we do have rain on the day, that might just mean that fence starts to edge out a little bit. To counter that, we do have a Westley slash Southerly win, which could get up to 30 kilometers. Gus might even be a little bit bigger than that. And that is an on-speed advantage. Despite that, I will not be backing an on-speed horse in race number 2. That is a 1600 meter benchmark 84. Fear not. Our $3.20 favorite from SuperFabulistic 440. He'll rip $8. Roulette King is a nice horse. $9. And Test of Love, $12. Fear not by Fear Inti. Trained by Tom Dabney. A really nice horse, I think. He was set to run against Perisher on Oaks Day in the benchmark 90. They opt for the softer option here. Look, he's got to carry the 60 kilos, but even looking at his ratings with that weight, it shouldn't be an issue. He draws barrier 4, so he's never a horse that is going to be in the first couple in the run, but hopefully that barrier just means Geordie Childs can be a little bit closer in the run. He goes from the 1440 to the 1600 meters now, so he is looking for a little bit more ground. He's probably one of those horses where 1800 is probably his absolute pet distance. However, a mile is a step in the right direction, and I think he might be a little bit too classy for this lot, so that'll be a bet for me on Saturday.
Speaker 7I don't mind it either. I could back it. I mean, I haven't done loads of form for Saturday because it's a busy week, and it's Wednesday. But, yeah, look, he looks I think I'll probably back him. I've got so much time for Roulette King that he's just confusing off that run first up over 1300 meters. I mean, they tried to get him into the Golden Eagle. It was just, he should have been racing in a Caulfield Cup.
Speaker 5Agree with that. Race number three is the Queen Elizabeth, group three handicap 2600 meters. It's always a good staying race on the final day.
Speaker 7One of my favorite races of the carnival.
Speaker 5It's been a good race for internationals as well, straight off the plane.
Speaker 7Remember Francis of Assisi won it by 1500 meters? Francis of Assisi started
Speaker 5$5 against Tom Melbourne. It might have been a little bit shorter than that at the death.
Speaker 7Yeah. Holy shit.
Speaker 5It absolutely pissed in. One of the biggest
Speaker 7margins I've ever seen live. What was it? 10 lengths or something? 10 lengths, or 12, 10 or 12
Speaker 5lengths. 12 lengths, I reckon. William Buick actually rode him that day.
Speaker 7Yes. He did.
Speaker 5The good horse, Solcom also won this race. The good horse. A couple of years ago. Well, I mean, he ran second in a Melbourne Cup.
Speaker 7Yeah. I remember that day he turned up, uh, Willie Haggis was training at the time. He turned up and um. He showed a fill up that day. Yeah. He did the five
Speaker 6times multiple, I remember.
Speaker 5Yeah. Riff Rocket won the derby I think that day. Yeah. Yeah. He, um,
Speaker 7he turned up wearing blinkers and he wasn't meant to wear blinkers.
Speaker 5Yes. I remember that. Did he get a
Speaker 7fine? Uh, I don't know, but I mean, who cares? Who cares? Two years ago. The matter's more at hand.
Speaker 5Pinhole, our $3 favorite here. Look, the all-in market was so interesting because Small Fry was backed into favorite and Omni Man was really well supported in this all-in market as well. The all-in market isn't offered by our friends. However, there's been a lot of cash burns on this race. Omni Man instead goes to the champion stakes, which just makes no sense to me here. I think he had 54 kilos in this race. Yeah. Ran third in the Geelong Cup. He can't win the two thousand meter race, I don't think. And Small Fry is going to go to the Zipping Classic next week instead. Joseph O'Brien does have defiantly, so he's probably tried to split a few of them up. However, Small Fry's going to bump into some of the Melbourne Cup runners next week. So I just think you try and. And the Caulfield Cup winner. Yeah, there you go. Kingswood as well, he's going there. So just go to the races you can win. Don't make it hardy for yourself.
Speaker 7Small Fry can win the Zipping Classic. Oh, he can.
Speaker 5Absolutely he can, but he would have been favored here.
Speaker 7I would have backed him,
Speaker 5yes. He would have been $3 favorite, I think, in this race. Anyway, Pinhole is our $3 favorite from King Pedro, $4. He was $4.60 earlier. You can get $4.40 out there. That price has been taken. Defiantly $5. Let's deal eights. Barkley Square, nines. My angle in this race is to be against the Joseph O'Brien train defiantly.
Speaker 7Oh, you've just spent the last two minutes telling me that all the kids in Nationals have a. You're not backing
Speaker 5them. They have a great record in this. And I think this one's a slow plugger. But I think he's more of a an on-speed sort of battler.
Speaker 7Sorry, one second. Before you go on a rant about why this horse is going to win or not win, why is he allowed to race? I don't understand.
Speaker 5What do you mean?
Speaker 7Like, I thought that he couldn't race now.
Speaker 5Oh, right. So, defiantly, he didn't fail his scans.
Speaker 7I know that, but he failed his trot up. So, does that mean he has to pass another trot up?
Speaker 5I think he will be inspected. In race morning?
Speaker 7Yep. Okay, so he's not 100%
Speaker 5running. He's probably not 100% running.
Speaker 6So, he should have been given until day of the race. Yep. To be past the trot up. So, his gate.
Speaker 5So, he was ruled out. So, he got trotted up in front of the vets, and his walk changed, or whatever they call it. So, he was ruled out of Melbourne Cup. Liv was explaining this to me.
Speaker 6We've seen that being your card before.
Speaker 5However, he's not ruled out on Saturday. So. Okay. Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong with him. We don't want to put that into the air. However, it doesn't. It is a little bit weird.
Speaker 6So, George could run on Saturday if they chose to. Yeah. Don't even get me started on being sound enough to run at 2,000, but not sound enough to run at 32. Yeah. And no one can say it's completely different races, Nick. You're either sound or you're not sound. It's one or the other.
Speaker 5That's true. I mean, the scans are. You're either a risk or
Speaker 6you're not a risk.
Speaker 5They have worked.
Speaker 6Yeah, but there's no. There's no grey area. You're either not right or you're right.
Speaker 5Yeah, 100%. I agree with that. Anyway, I'm against the cliently in this race. I think the market is spot on. I think the value in the race is King Pedro. You can get $4.40 for him out there. I don't think there should be anything between him and probably Pinhole in the market. Look, both of them were a little bit unlucky. Probably a lot unlucky in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup last time round run at Flemington. They were both held up on the inside. You can argue that Pinhole finishes in front of King Pedro there, but I just think King Pedro has more improvement to come here. He was going 1,900 to 2,500 last start off a freshen up, and now comes here rock hard fit, third up, looks ready to go. I think he can beat Pinhole home again, which is exactly what they've done. Exactly what he's done the last two times he's met Pinhole. I know Pinhole's probably going better this preparation, but he did fair dinkum smack him when they met on a soft track last preparation at Rose Hill, and I think he might do. I don't think he'll smack him, but I do think he can win this race. So I think there's value in the current quote, and I can have a saver on Pinhole and really gap defiantly and mark him much bigger than $5. What, do you have any thoughts?
Speaker 7Look, I think that defiantly makes it really hard to price because I don't have. I can get them, but I haven't done. I haven't got ratings for him now. And I don't know, how's he going to turn up? I don't know. Impossible to know.
Speaker 5Impossible. Nico, any thoughts? No. Any thoughts in race four and five, the Fisher Stakes? fisher has a race named after himself he will be djing after the last um hanky alpha's three dollar favorite that looks really short again it was a bit unlucky last time i
Speaker 7mean it was a little bit and hit the line really pretty strong but it's a flashing light wow it looks strong i mean maybe maybe because it's gonna be wet yeah i think it could be a wet tracker i don't think in karuna
Speaker 5once it's too wet and the one that probably piques my interest a little bit eight dollars is actually photograph who arguably should have gone a lot closer to beating home in karuna last time around i think she is a nice enough sprinter she's on the seven day backup as is in karuna as is a hanky alpha but i think photograph has drawn the right side and barrier nine and she looks a little bit of value there at eight dollars for me didn't mind paladin
Speaker 7but like i don't know not a tip i've just like skimmed these races so i'll do riding and stuff
Speaker 5so look at that yeah quickly on race number five which is the matriarch vivier has been really well backed four dollars from two down the street five dollars soverato six dollars and panova is eleven dollars having drawn the car park gut feel on vivier running two thousand meters um she ran 1800 last start
Speaker 7iffy but i think it's probably no issue i think
Speaker 5i think two down discreet and soverato are probably the two that i want to be finding
Speaker 7yeah this is one of the races that i have done properly in depth and uh i marked two down discreet favorite and i'll be backing two down discreet she's been my matriarch horse forever she has and this is go time she gets a
Speaker 5fair white swing oh
Speaker 7she does and she's drawn perfectly with mark zara aboard i think she'll win the matriarch on saturday i marked her so i bet at price with a bit friends uh five dollars five five fifty the boost but take a
Speaker 5boost absolutely um i think she made soverato better at the way it's at least five kilos better off at the weights it's handy from the tezio it's very handy so here we go soverato carried 54 last time she now has 57 so plus three two down discreet carried 60 last time and now has 56 i'm no mathematician but i think that's seven kilo weight swing good stuff that's a that is a handy weight swing and that might be just steering me in the corner of two down discreet as well yeah race number six is the champion sprint group one 1200 meters weight for age down the straight and tempted the everest winner gee i didn't think i'd be saying that a couple months ago she's the dollar 90 favorite from joley star four dollars 40 somehow bet365 had a bit of a mare here putting up six dollars that that was just overs headwall has been eight out to nine but it's good to see him here he's enjoying it he's enjoying a wonderful preparation cabalus 15 is a new market winner down the straight and charmstone he's 26 into 21 nico i'll get you involved here the golden girl of australian sprinting now he's tempted she wrote a fast tempo in the everest so she was she was ridden a little bit upside down but that was to beat carrying rising
Speaker 6yeah well she used to have that tactical versatility when she used to race the girls so um yeah they just used the gate last time and they it was to their to their benefit i don't uh i don't exactly know where she's gonna map in this race but i also don't really care uh whether it's forward back i don't think it matters she had a good look down the straight the other day that's gonna pose no issues to her she's the in the country and she will win um i'm not worried about any any uh race shape any surface she'll just find a way because that's what winners do and um yeah i think even money or they're about is uh rather generous yep i
Speaker 5agree you can get a dollar 95 out there i think she's more she's a
Speaker 6dollar 50 chance for me i i couldn't
Speaker 5get her any longer than a dollar 70 she's a dollar 50 chance um and i think one of her big advantages also an advantage for jolly star is that they've drawn right next to cabalus and mazu so they've all drawn that sort of outside hut i think a lot of these horses drawn low skybird point barrow charmstone i think they're all cast because i think this race is going to develop down the outside fence mazu is going to lead them cabalus is going to sit second jolly star won't be too far away and if tempted can just get the back of jolly star i think she gets to the outside and she's just got the superior turn of foot at this stage in their careers if it does turn into a soft track and we get a bit of rain on race day she excels on soft ground we haven't really seen her on heavy stuff but it won't get heavy at flemington i i think she's going to be too good here button i think she'll i think she'll beat home jolly star easier than she did in the everest when she was ridden warm and out on her feet that probably lasts 50 meters
Speaker 7yeah agree yeah i mean she's probably the right price these these group
Speaker 5ones just don't interest
Speaker 7you no i i mean i think this is the worst day of the carnival i don't care i don't care
Speaker 5fucking drop it's champions day but we've got to celebrate these
Speaker 7champions i could not care about
Speaker 6tempted could
Speaker 5be a champion well
Speaker 6the first day of the carnival was yesterday bro um best part about yes i didn't need to was enjoying my day which is the best
Speaker 7highlight of that day cox plate number three and clap around autumn glow at a dollar sixteen like oh bring back the um what was it called the the cantala make it a handicap shillelagh we've
Speaker 6got enough handicap racings got
Speaker 7enough wait for age racing i don't want to say the cost
Speaker 6plate again yeah clap clap for the handicap we saw him we saw the cox plate once clap clap fuck off no fuck you um if you
Speaker 5don't want to take a dollar ninety for tempted you've got rocks in your head no but if you want a little bit of extra mayo go get your head checked
Speaker 6i bought i think
Speaker 5you can take a little same racer i think i think you
Speaker 6trust them head
Speaker 5wall top four i mean he's a he's a nice price at nine dollars to get something out of the exotics he's just been such a consistent
Speaker 6horse's prep just have a lump on a w money fair enough just don't get cute point and shoot why get cute no that's not my thing that's not my thing you know that's not my thing just just launch respect responsibly launch some of our listeners about the best
Speaker 5sprinter in the country they'd rather spend a little to make a lot well yeah take shortcuts
Speaker 6yeah you know what getting cute and get beat keep it simple stupid i'll be keeping
Speaker 5it simple for you stupid in the champions mile that's our weight for age group one over 1600 meters of course autumn glow is a dollar 25 with bet 365 lindemann 10 from tom kitten 11 buckaroo 13 and sepals is
Speaker 616 what a pathetic race wash him you can go home now if you want actually i've had no like i'm just
Speaker 7i mean it's
Speaker 6great you're so miserable no i'm just i'm
Speaker 7just saying like it's great that autumn glow is here but is it you wouldn't know you have so many good milers yeah
Speaker 5where are they they're scared they're scared why is chai wolf not here
Speaker 6fuck where are they i mean he hasn't gone to hide so where are they hiding i mean she's not
Speaker 5going to royal ascot next year that was disappointing to learn yeah that
Speaker 7was never that was not really surprising my one issue with autumn glow is she's been in a proper race once and she got beaten but no one also no one wants to race her i know it's not her fault well i mean sometimes she's being
Speaker 6butterpuff you're saying cotton wool
Speaker 7champion a little bit like
Speaker 6i mean one time we've seen her in an actual race that's the opinion that people have well that's just so everyone knows she's like good
Speaker 7enough to be an absolute champion she's one of the best horses we've seen in the last 20 years it's easy to knock it but look i don't there's she doesn't have one memorable win she doesn't have a memorable win to her name it's not her fault i know it's not but i'm just saying she should go to the doncaster it'd be great autumn if she could win a race and i would want to remember it yeah well the people that think she's i'm not going to remember her beating seppals i am not going to remember her beating seppals i tell you
Speaker 5that much you know why i might be remembering her she beat seppals because i am considering having the biggest bet i've ever had in my life on her i think she is a genuine dollar 10 chance i think a dollar 30 is value she's going to sit on speed here from barrier two a good track is fine if it gets to a soft six that doesn't matter you've got tom kitten who isn't in career best form right now he gets the blinkers on he was okay behind lindemann last start lindemann's form in melbourne just simply is not as good as his form in sydney maybe some of that is just related to caulfield he doesn't get around caulfield and maybe he's a little bit better at flemington
Speaker 6when he's made in a pack in him he'll get lost at pack it he'll get lost at flemington
Speaker 5potentially i think the horse that will run second is actually buckaroo and i think he's maybe a little bit of value for for a place he ran super
Speaker 6he's your main danger well there are no
Speaker 5dangers in this
Speaker 6race for me i
Speaker 5agree ben he buckaroo ran
Speaker 6awesome buckaroo won't be close enough to even see the winning post no but he'll think he won i think i think he'll get far behind i think
Speaker 5he'll run on into a placing if if the track is gets into the soft range i think he'll run on well he ran super in the crystal mile behind surf and bird if he was a length closer in the run he would have won that but overall autumn glow is a moral
Speaker 6he can have his token victory getting beat by six he'll feel like he
Speaker 5won i think if you get a dollar plus you can have a maximum bet and take your 30 plus better the bank that's exactly what i'll be doing i'll be looking to i'm not sure if i'm going to be able to get the price i want with our friends if i don't
Speaker 6i'll make sure you get it
Speaker 5in the ring i'll take some cash on course or i might have to meet on the yellow app if i can't do that and i will be launching it okay yep love it sure win i
Speaker 6hope pounding runs well pounding
Speaker 5champion eric absolutely yeah that's
Speaker 6that just shows you everything in bot's world and brain let's move
Speaker 5on to race number eight the champion stakes two thousand meters champion
Speaker 6autumn glow not look i must say i must say i'm not
Speaker 5that inspired by this race either because it just feels like the turnbull it feels like the cox plate it just feels like
Speaker 7i've seen it i don't
Speaker 5care it feels like the same race for the third time a race two dealers will probably shaft everyone imagine well he's got
Speaker 7improvement to
Speaker 5come so yeah just wasn't his grand final in the cox plate maybe he'll be ready maybe dead set you've got to mark him double figures do you light inventory man and land legends in this race again are going to ensure that it is a truly run event yet again
Speaker 7which land legend are we gonna get
Speaker 5not the good one there
Speaker 7is no such thing as the good one oh he'll
Speaker 5run out the back of the screen again land legend might be able to improve but how that ever happened going through the market aliana three dollars from cosmic crusader 320 birdman 550 serdilia seven dollars he's been a drifter omni man is an interesting horse in this race he's been 17 into 12 does he have the speed in his legs to win at 2000 against these no and treasure the moment 15 out to 23. look there's three principal chances in this race i'm not telling you anything the market isn't cosmic crusader if he wins this he stamps himself rubber stamps himself as the best 2000 meter horse currently in australia he probably already has that title and he gets similar conditions to what he likes he's going to get a fast run race on a big open track at flemington look if he's over the top and sort of bottoms out that's what happens i still think he probably has to be your starting point he's going to get it back a long way from barrier 11 which is what he has done in the turnbull and in the cox plate my only gray up with cosmic crusader is the long preparation and also the finish yet yeah he's going to a northerly as well but if this is a howling southerly and he's giving the likes of aliana who draws better we'll be closer in the run if he's giving her a six length head start five length head start she might be a little bit hard to pin back so i can understand the market but cosmic crusader was my starting point nico if the track is fair yeah
Speaker 6uh i don't really have an interest in the race to be honest like when i gave it some time i thought well bourbon's horse that i found i don't think he's the type of horse that i want to back to be honest so that's how much i gave the race but
Speaker 5sir delius gets the blinkers on he gets the bet he's
Speaker 6best suited but like if it's who's best suited i think birdman's best suited barrier one again well yeah that's the thing that's what i was worried about i just think position like race shape i think he'll be best suited the way that i think the race will unfold but like he's just he's so goldilocks the way that this race is going to be run like if the race runs the way that it looks like it might it'll be perfect but if it doesn't if it's not right it's going to be perfect but if it's not right it's going to be perfect but if it's not run that way well he's not a horse that you want to be on because he needs to be smothered up yeah he needs them to be too far behind him he needs to be close enough when he takes off because he doesn't have a long sprint it's just there's just so many variables i just don't really want to as
Speaker 5cosmic crusader not just proven in the turnbull and cox plate that he's better than these yeah
Speaker 6but if if he's six lengths off them true and he's running into a head breeze yeah
Speaker 5it's it's it's such a tricky race it's just not a
Speaker 6race that i really want to have a bit i still don't believe it
Speaker 7cosmic crusader i do but i don't like i don't want to mark him favorite like i would love to
Speaker 6i would love just to have some sort of signs of life that you can back to delius because like the way this blink is uh is
Speaker 5the desperation call yes it
Speaker 6is but the way this race is going to unfold he should get his opportunity to just you know be there hopefully have a toe into the race ride him what they should have in the cox plate but they couldn't because of the way that the Have three on Cosmic Crusader and let down. Have your turn of the race. You get dragged into it and you let down and you show us that you're the horse that we thought you were.
Speaker 5We know he's got the talent to win and maybe he'll be given a cooler ride. As you're saying, he won't be ridden so warm on such a hot pace.
Speaker 6If he gets to like nine bucks or something, I might just have something on him.
Speaker 5If he gets to double figures, I might have to have something small on him.
Speaker 6It's just a race where like.
Speaker 5I think he's just a big entire who's just gone cast.
Speaker 6It could be completely cast, but in a race where there's just so much uncertainty and I'm telling you to back the horse with the most uncertainty, which is just, just shows you this race. Yeah. It's just, it's just very, just it's, it's trappy.
Speaker 5It is trappy. Like Aliana, was she, was she one run short in the Cox plate or is she just looking for more ground?
Speaker 7She's not a 2,000 meter horse. Marked her 310.
Speaker 5You've got her favorite then.
Speaker 7No, she's 310. So no. I think, I think it's hard.
Speaker 5She's probably the map horse.
Speaker 7I mean, the market's so right.
Speaker 5So. Of course, it's the last day of the carnival. It's a wait for age race. It's always going to be.
Speaker 7I know. That's why it's. Yeah. Oh, here we go.
Speaker 5He's going to start kicking the table soon.
Speaker 7Like I did last week. You should have just gone home. Grumpy boy. Nah, no. I mean, I make, I make Aliana favorite, but I mean, if she, if she gets a little bit, like if she's 350 on race day, I'll definitely back her. And then I might. I like the race. But right now, I don't know. That's what I'm telling you about.
Speaker 6Maybe you wake up tomorrow on the different side of the bed. You might like life too.
Speaker 5That's what I'm telling you about Autumn Globot. I'm having one of the biggest bets of my life. So it's interesting.
Speaker 7Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'll, I'll, it'll, it'll be interesting for me because I'll be cheering it for you,
Speaker 5mate. Thank you.
Speaker 7Life is really not that bad, bro. Oh, I'm loving life right now, mate.
Speaker 5Always look on the bright side of life.
Speaker 7Don't do that again, please.
Speaker 6Um. West is best. Want to go there?
Speaker 5Yeah. Watch your, your West set. There's a couple favorites in a row that look extremely hashtag hard to beat.
Speaker 6West has been very great the last few weeks. Last week was two real sweaty watches for the multi. Yep. West and Miss. Just getting there. And Rockfest in the last was. How did, how did West and Miss win? That was. How did both of them win? How did Rockfest win? That was She's an Alibi, this whole mud drink sort of stuff. Anyway, winners win.
Speaker 5Talk to me about the Farithra. Beaty is $1.80 and Roger is $2.60. Godspeed $6.50. It looks a race in two mainly. Beaty's got to give Roger two and a half kilos at the weights.
Speaker 6Yeah, Beaty's short, I think. I think Roger should be favorite. I think Roger's the best horse. Really? Favorite? I think Beaty's just got, he's just probably got carrying the, the, the last preparation. I think Roger's a here and now horse. Roger, Roger. Uh, Beaty was good. Beaty was good first up, but I just really liked Roger. I think he's, uh, I think he's the best three-year-old over there at the moment. I think he's king of light 2.0. And I think, uh, right now I had a look at his last week. He's, uh, he's substantially bigger price in the guineas, which is where they head next.
Speaker 5Yep. It'll be level weights in the guineas.
Speaker 6Yeah. I reckon the market flips after the weekend. Right now Beaty's like $3 and Roger's like $4.50. Depending on where you, where you're at. Look. Um, and I think that's wrong. Roger will be favorite after he wins on the weekend.
Speaker 5There you go. So you're against the $1.80 favorite in, that's the main race. I'm not really knocking it.
Speaker 6I just think Roger's. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think he's a better horse. Of course Beaty can win, like.
Speaker 5He was awesome last start, Beaty. They're two very, they're two very good three-year-olds. Yep. Um, any thoughts on Aberdeen Flyer, who will be a popular horse in the 1800 meter race? He's $1.80. He's probably. He's a nonny. He's probably on sort of preparation for a Perth Cup later in the prep.
Speaker 6Yeah, he finds a way to see a beat. One from 11 or whatever he is. Yeah, he is. One from 11. He's not, not my type of horse.
Speaker 5Fair enough. So you're against Aberdeen, well maybe not
Speaker 6against, but not backing. Can't win, but yeah, not for me.
Speaker 5And then we go to, um, obviously race number nine. Yep. And that is, uh, King of Light in the La Steer. He's even money from Western Empire 420. Watch me rock 480 in London's image. $7.50. Has the baton been handed over?
Speaker 6Yeah. King of Light's the best horse over there now. Uh, Western Empire is, you know, in his.
Speaker 5Seen better days.
Speaker 6Yeah. He's in his twilight years. He's been a very good horse and I'm, I love him, but, um, yeah, King of Light is, he's a new kid on the block and he's, he's top dog. Lucy got, uh, King of Light. The King of Light got Lucy out of trouble last time. It was a very,
Speaker 5it opened up nicely for a, it
Speaker 6was a very, uh, lucky parting of the seas. Bit of pike to it. Hey. It was a bit of pike to it. I wasn't as confident with Lucy on the pike, I can guarantee you. Anyway, uh, good horses find a way. And yeah, I think even money's pretty fair.
Speaker 5Any knocks staying at 1400. That's my little concern.
Speaker 6No, no, not really. I think with the railway in mind that they're not going to go to the mile. Until they have to sort of thing. Uh, he'll have enough, he'll have enough sprint in his legs. Um, he's just a winner. I think, uh. But, yeah, this race looks easier than the last time, to be honest. I think there's a lot less, not pressure, but I think there's a lot less opportunities for something to go wrong. Yep. Like, I think there's a lot less hazards in this race. Last time you had Bonjoy, you had a few others in the end. A few speed humps. Yeah, not speed humps, but more so, like, just threatening opposition. I think it's just a bit of a weaker race, and it looks a bit of an easier setup, I think. If they have to go back, they can go back and loop at their own accord. They shouldn't be inside sort of looking for runs and having the seas depart like they had to last time. So, yeah, as long as Lucy rides, him half-sensibly, everything should be okay. And he's going to be, spoiler alert, the last leg of the podcast multi.
Speaker 5Well, let's get to that podcast multi now. We won't spend any more time mucking around. The first two legs are going to be the two legs I think everyone in Australia wants to have in it. And they are going to be tempted. Race six in the Champions Sprint into Autumn Glow, race number seven. Tempted. She draws the right side down the straight. Soft track, good track, doesn't matter. I think. Obviously, Marzu's drawn that outside. You've got Jolie Starr and Cabala. So, she should have a nice back to follow. She should be too good. And Autumn Glow, she's. Yeah, she just looks the good thing of the entire year. I've got her probably marked $1.10. She'll go forward. If there is that South Wesley win around the circle races, she'll be on speed. She will kill them. Yep. And your leg is?
Speaker 6Well, King of Light. King of Light. Race. Race eight. Race nine, number six. King of Light. Everything that we've just outlined. But, yeah, he's the best horse in this race. Even when he looks rather tasteful. This looks pretty simple. If he goes forward, perfect. If he has to go back, perfect. He'll gather them up and he'll take care of this lot on his way to a railway stakes. So, yeah, he's the best horse in WA over there currently racing. And, yeah, he'll take care of this field here. So, it looks rather. Fruitful, treble. Looks simple. Hopefully, it is simple. Hopefully. Point and shoot on us. Yeah, point, shoot, point, shoot and fill.
Speaker 5And a big thanks to Bet365 for giving us the two multis this week. We've got the one on Oaks Day. And then, after that one's done, we'll have the Saturday one that goes up.
Speaker 7And, actually, one last week, too.
Speaker 5Don't sound so surprised. Regal Ambition into Lady Shenandoah. $7.15 we got.
Speaker 6It's amazing what's happened once we've got rid of the dead wood.
Speaker 5And. At the jump.
Speaker 7Everything I backed on Saturday once. Yeah, well, you just couldn't handle the smoke of the podcast multi.
Speaker 5Imagine we put Stormy Marco in it as well. Would have paid a lot. Some punters got $9 for the podcast multi last week because they didn't back it until late after Regal Ambition drifted. So, they got a huge price there as well. So, well done if that was one of you. We get to some questions now. We'll just spend 10 minutes here before we wrap things up. Go to the Twitter ones. First, casual call out. Will Nolan get out before Bot gets his license?
Speaker 7I don't know.
Speaker 5Are you any closer to getting. No. Fair enough. Petition for VC in the intro. Virtual circle, I'm guessing that is. Yeah, good call. Mate, you didn't even back him today. You didn't even know he was running. That's terrible on my end. Rav. Hey, boys. Heading down to Flemington for the first time this Saturday. Where's the best spots to head out afterwards?
Speaker 6Cheers. Marmont Bar.
Speaker 5You're a fan of Marmont. Have you been to the new joint?
Speaker 6That's where I roll, mate.
Speaker 5No, what's the new joint called? Marmont. Yeah, there's Marmont and there's another one.
Speaker 6One night Saturdays is at Marmont.
Speaker 5Yeah, but what's the other one called? Marmont. What's the one that Kackett goes to? With like the. You go down those stairs.
Speaker 6Yeah. Godby. Yeah, you can have that joint.
Speaker 5I've never been to Godby.
Speaker 6What's. Go to Marmont if you want a good time. Tell them I'll see you.
Speaker 5What's the two that are next to each other in South Yarra?
Speaker 6The Osborne and.
Speaker 5Emerson. Yeah, I like the Emerson.
Speaker 6I used to like the Emerson. One night Saturdays, I'm affiliated with the Emerson anymore.
Speaker 5Oh, okay. So you can't. You can't affiliate.
Speaker 6I'm affiliated. Oh, you're a club promoter. I'm an ambassador. So go to Marmont Bar. Jesus Christ. Yeah, fair enough.
Speaker 7I didn't have much respect for you before that, but now I have. Emerson is a good venue.
Speaker 6I'd prefer if you don't come. You're not welcome. You're already on the list of not being allowed in.
Speaker 5Emerson's like your three level up. If you're having a big one, head down to Circus at 4am. You'll see some. I'll tell you what, you'll see.
Speaker 6It all depends on what you're looking for. You'll see Benny.
Speaker 5You'll see some Circus acts at Circus. You'll see some absolute creatures. Milo Grimes, where to next for the next episode? He'll be spelled. He will be lightning into Newmarket, I would have thought.
Speaker 6Yep. He's going to Royal Ascot.
Speaker 5That'd be good. Two run campaign, then.
Speaker 6He's running in both races at Royal Ascot. Really? He's going to. Oh, I did hear that. They spoke to. What's his name? Gareth. Gareth? Yeah, the owner. What's his name, sorry? Go on, Blake.
Speaker 7No idea. Some English guy. Who cares? He's got
Speaker 6a racing arm over there of about 50 horses. He's got a private trainer. Yeah. And Will Bourne and Kieran have checked it out with them over there this year. Yeah. So he's going to be based over there, and they're going to train him out of there, and he's going to have the two runs at Ascot. Yeah. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens, because obviously Wynn and Stud are in the ownership of the next episode. Yep. And the rumours and the numbers that have been floating around at the moment of what he's already worth. That's so good.
Speaker 5Wild. Well, speaking of the lightning, G says, With Baccio coming next Feb to contest the lightning, do you think his recent win puts him on par with our best sprinters, or do you reckon he's going to be given windburn by the likes of Tempted next episode's St Goddard? Good question. My gut feel is to be against a horse like that, coming down the straight for the first time, coming to Melbourne a lot of the time, they come to the Southern Hemisphere and they don't quite run to their rating. He looks very fast, and he looks like a good 1,000 metre sprinter, but I think if he's going to be $4, $5 in a lightning market, I want to be taking
Speaker 6him on next
Speaker 5episode to run him down and maybe Tempted if she came. But yeah, he does look a good horse, so no disrespect. Husey, are there any tracks you guys believe you win the most on and lose the most on? For me, I can't pick my nose at Flemington, in Caulfield, but run a drum at Rosehill and Randwick. Bot screams of a Bendigo or Wangaratta type.
Speaker 6Favourite track? To go to or to better? To better. I think Flemington's probably my favourite to better. I was having this thought the other day and having a chat to someone. I reckon Ascot. If I broke down statistically, I reckon my best track would be Ascot.
Speaker 7You seem to win a lot at Ascot.
Speaker 6Yeah. I've got a great read on Ascot. Just because it's always usually a good four. It's fair. I know the pool of horses. I could cut the race down to, I just think there's less variables in WLF. It's just a great place to bet.
Speaker 5Yeah. I think my most successful track over the years is probably Caulfield and Randwick for whatever reason. I don't know why.
Speaker 6I don't know why Ascot, but it's just a great place to bet.
Speaker 5Yeah. For some reason, I feel like horses get, there's more unlucky runs at Flemington than there is at Caulfield. I think because of the way that the turn is sort of positioned. Horses can get held up if they fall back the rails at Flemington, but at Caulfield, because it's more of a cutaway, they do seem to get their chance eventually and they all peel off the fence.
Speaker 6It's going to be something that I'm going to look into a bit more. Break it down numbers wise and maybe I need to start starting a bit more.
Speaker 5Ryan Patton, Bodder's tipping was outstanding on Derby Day. Petitioned to have the young man tested. Clearly be, I can't read this part out, clearly been rummaging through, insert trainer's name,
Speaker 7glove box. Thank you.
Speaker 5Bot, do we need to test you? Go for it.
Speaker 6It's going to be very interesting to see with that whole situation.
Speaker 5Yeah, it will be. I think he's done.
Speaker 6Yeah. He's already transferred his horses. Yeah, not just that.
Speaker 5Yeah. There's a lot to play out.
Speaker 6There's a bit more to see here, I'm going to believe. So it's going to be interesting to see what happens. Yeah. Yeah, they've said it before. Precedence. Well, if Weary's got life, well, that's the precedence now.
Speaker 5Yeah. Skinner, is Point Barrow, who's won down the straight before, any hope with a Marc Zara special or others just too classy? I think she's cast. I think she's Point Barrow in the champion sprint.
Speaker 7You think she's cast? As in can't win or like not going well?
Speaker 5As in drawn barrier two, where all the speed's going to develop down the outside.
Speaker 7I see your point, yes.
Speaker 5I just don't think she's well set up to win.
Speaker 7I thought she was going really well for this exact race, but. Um, it's come up a lot better than I thought it would.
Speaker 5Yeah. Lee, Hong Kong racing model. Question for tonight. Cosmic Crusaders drawn 11 of 11, the champion stakes. Cox Plate winner. But does that gate put you off or is he just better than them?
Speaker 7He's not just better than them. He's, if anything's like very slightly better than them, but they're very even.
Speaker 5So. I think regardless of the barrier, he was always going to get back in the second half of the field anyway.
Speaker 7Especially after the Cox Plate, which makes me not want to like him. Like him. Yeah. Because, oh, we won because we were last, is the worst thing.
Speaker 5ever well he did it in the turnbull as well
Speaker 7it wasn't long
Speaker 5No, he was a lot closer in the Turnbull. But yeah, he grazed me up a little bit. I don't know if I'm going to have a bet in the champion stakes. Che Wolfe's number one fan. Thoughts on Vauban's alleged four-day backup and any chance on the anti-post price for him in the grand annual at the ball in May? Great investment from the fellas behind percentages too. He won't stay if he went to the jumps. What do you mean he won't stay? He went to like a grand annual.
Speaker 7Vauban. He was a champion. Well, not a champion, but he was a-
Speaker 5He could be in another life back in the UK.
Speaker 7Yeah, I mean, the jumps is completely different, isn't it? Maybe. You can get milers that stay two miles over the jumps, can't you?
Speaker 6You'd need to see- He might stay two miles. You'd need to see how he goes over here.
Speaker 7Well, yeah, that's his go was two miles. So he's not going to be obviously grand annuals.
Speaker 5Which is restricted to hurdles only.
Speaker 7Is it? Yeah. Well, he wasn't a steeplechaser back home, I don't think.
Speaker 6You'd have to see him trial here though, because the races are just completely different.
Speaker 7He'd be a biggest certainty ever. Oh my God. He was that good over there. Yeah, he must be.
Speaker 5Stay inside. How would have Aliana gone yesterday in the cup? And how would a potential tanker matchup between her and Point of Law go?
Speaker 7She would have ran second or third.
Speaker 5Yeah, I think she would have ran a placing, but she wouldn't have troubled the winner.
Speaker 7And I think that in the tanker, that would be an amazing betting race. It's going to be such a fascinating horse, Point of Law. I know. See what they do with it. Like, how are they going to campaign it?
Speaker 5I think Aliana would-
Speaker 6They're obviously going to try and put speed in his legs and make him wait for age. Oh God, that doesn't work. They have to at least try.
Speaker 5He won't go to a tanker, which is just going to annoy me.
Speaker 6They at least have to try, because that's all going well. They're not going to a Sydney Cup. So you can have a coxswain into a Melbourne Cup next year.
Speaker 5Is Benny going to pitch next year? Yes, I probably will be. I went this year. It's a perfect time just before footy season starts. So I will see you at pitch. I'm also going to be on the Valley for the first time in like seven years.
Speaker 6Don't waste your time.
Speaker 5It was so much better when it was at Lardner Park. Fucking nice. Back in the day. Jesus. Pikey, was that the local after Derby Day? Watched a group of blokes scream at Rockfest to fetch a ball. That's so good. Nico's magic is spreading. That is unbelievable.
Speaker 6A few people starting to get a little bit of traction. There you go. Oh, stop it. That is good stuff. That makes me so happy. Josh Perry. I love that.
Speaker 5There used to be an Instagram account called Goodwill Punting. Posted genuine winners. Was that Bot's real account?
Speaker 7No, I used to actually have an Instagram account. That's how I met Ben. We started talking. It was called Australian Racing Blog or something. I was like 14.
Speaker 5Yeah, you were a nerd. You still are.
Speaker 6Nothing's changed. There's a depressed nerd.
Speaker 5Yeah, who hates Champions Day. Just a couple now off the Instagram line. Bailey Kelly. Bet in units, question mark, or price-dependent determined stake? What's the best approach? Well, I think you can do both simultaneously. You can still bet in units and base it off your price. But I tend to bet a little bit bigger over the carnival when the better horse. I have less regrets, but some people bet the same all year round. Benzie, Benzie Muntz, would you ever consider doing a live streaming of the podcast?
Speaker 6Maybe. I don't know.
Speaker 5Probably something that we can look into.
Speaker 6Yeah, maybe some events. We'll be doing some live stuff, but I don't know. We'd probably have to. We'd be doing live stuff as a podcast.
Speaker 5No, not, not continually because sometimes we say things we shouldn't,
Speaker 6things we shouldn't that we probably need to, probably need to cut. There's possibility for it to be, uh, to be videoed. Yeah. We don't really cut anything ever though, do we?
Speaker 5Like, no, not really. We've done it once or twice when we've made a mistake. Wow. Oh. Um, someone asked when is the, um, racing previews party and can it be at Melbourne Cup Carnival next year? We still might, we still might do something at the end of the year, maybe like a Christmas
Speaker 6party set up we're definitely gonna have an autumn launch it was just getting too late to have a spring launch yeah i've already well and truly got everything sorted and uh ducks in a row for the autumn launch so that will definitely happen beautiful uh but yeah we'll try and do something but yeah benedict coward yeah am i
Speaker 5incredibly stupid to have concerns of autumn glow not running well anti-clockwise yes yes sorry at flemington no concerns at all if it was at Moonee Valley or Caulfield, maybe you go, oh, it's a tiny bit of a greyout, but Flemington, good horses do it. She'll be fine. Jaden Clark, any savers for the sequined race or is it an Armour Guard job? Who? For the sequined race. Sequined? Yeah, I saw it's on right now, so I don't know.
Speaker 6Let's take the multi. They both stay short. I might have something on the publisher.
Speaker 5I think semantics is a little bit of value,
Speaker 6double figures. Sequin's got the form, though.
Speaker 5Kale, Kieran Maher is that good? He could have trained the GOAT, Wodeton, to win a Golden Eagle. Maybe. Probably not. Jayden Clark, tempted. Autumn glow, Lazora, multi, surely an Armour Guard job. We didn't touch on Lazora. She's $1.50. She probably wins, but it's.
Speaker 6Yeah, I'm not really interested in taking $1.50.
Speaker 5It was way too short.
Speaker 6She's not a horse that wins by a big margin. No, she's not. She's a bit of a B-grade bully, so.
Speaker 5But they all carry the same weight on Saturdays. She's been beating them up and carrying a kilo and a half, two more. The last question. She's a bit of a B-grade bully.
Speaker 6Wouldn't be surprised to see her win. Wouldn't be surprised to see her get beat.
Speaker 5What was your ride of the cup? What? My ride at Ben Allen's? I mean, the best ride in the cup. Oh, Whizzers. I mean, Ethan Brown's was good. Whizzers was great.
Speaker 6Yeah, you couldn't fucking see it for 200.
Speaker 5I think the trifecta of best rides in the cup.
Speaker 6I'll give Benny his flowers.
Speaker 5We'll go Ben Allen three, Ethan Brown two, and James. Ben Malum. Yeah, Ben Malum was really good on Zarian. James Johnson to find the box seat on Mr.
Speaker 7Monaco. Oh, he is so good. Oh, my God. What did it draw?
Speaker 5Barrier 20? Yeah. He found the perfect position on Mr. Monaco before they got to the home turn.
Speaker 7Yeah. He's going to be one of the, like, he's so good.
Speaker 5Can I just ask, how did Juja Kibo not hold on for second? Have you watched the replay? Before, like, it looks like in live time, he gets second and Zarian does not get his head down. And I know a lot of people that had Juja for their Quinella's exactors and didn't have Zarian, so I'm feeling for them. It did not look like Zarian got second.
Speaker 6But anyway. Crazy.
