This is an I heart podcast guaranteed human NFL cover zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin as a production of the NFL and I heart podcasts. Welcome into the week six recap show of NFL cover zero. Drew Franklin here filling in on the host share for Matt Jones who is still making his way back from Norman Oklahoma, but that's okay. I have Billy Relich here. Billy always ready to fill in and see to when needed and Billy. We got us through last week's episode when Matt left for Norman. Now we've had the full Sunday slate. It's Monday morning. We got a game to look forward to tonight and you and I will fill in until he gets back here, but we can handle it. We're ready for another fun recap show. Yeah, plenty to talk about my bucks losing over time. Your Titans get an actual win. Did you lose your voice? I did. It just sound a little raspy today. Also our KSR listeners know I wasn't supposed to go to Norman. In fact, when we did cover zero in a film cover zero last week, I had no intention of going to Norman. And then Thursday night, I spontaneously caught the last flight out of Lexington to surprise the crew in Oklahoma on Friday morning and Tulsa actually barely made it there. I walked into the KSR's morning showing surprise them. But then I also got on the plane and came home early Sunday morning while they are now making the long drive back. So they'll be back late Monday evening, early Tuesday. But I used what they call an airplane, Billy and met him out there and I'm already home. Well, I don't know how many hours of sleep you're running on since Friday. Since Friday, I was going to say it's got to be close to single digits. Yes. You are a trooper for being here. I appreciate that. And it looked like he had some fun even going to a bar where you could ride holes. Oh my goodness, Billy. Are Kentucky Wildcats. Yeah, are Kentucky Wildcats won a football game. A very important football game to go to six and one. I was there. I got to be a fan. I never get to be a fan. I'm always in the press box. I love my job. But it's just a different game experience. It's usually quiet and there. It's enclosed. I'm on my computer. I have an assigned seat next to people. I don't pick out and not with friends. All that. I like my job. But it's just different. Normally a member of the media. Yeah. I'm a media, media member, media member, media member, media member. There we go. But Saturday, I got to sit in the crowd and I had a great time. That's why I don't have a voice. Kentucky got the win. But I'm telling you, there's the second best thing of the trip. That bar Friday night in Oklahoma, it's called Cowboys. Give me forever. You know, Billy, I've been to a few bars. I like to have a good time. I'm well traveled. I have a ranking of places I like in America. Cowboys has now surpassed all of them. It's number one. Number one. I asked we're at the hotel. We're about to head to downtown Oklahoma City. We stayed in Oklahoma City to get, and I think they call it Bricktown. That's where all the action is. It's where all the bars that's the scene. It's the strip. So it's like, well, that's where I need to go. But then the lady at the front desk said, or right next door, I'm out by the airport. By the way, I want to be close from our flight. She's like, right next door, there's a live bull riding in a bar. She's like, excuse me. She's like, yeah, live bull riding. Like people sign up. I was like, people just like anyone on real bulls. She's like, yes. And yes, right then and there. I didn't need to know anything else. Walk straight to Cowboys. Line out the door. Huge place. Everyone wearing tight jeans and Cowboys hats outside. It is a true Cowboy bar. Like something you see in the movies. We go inside. It was everything I wanted and more. Huge line dancing floor. And it's not like where people are different packs doing their own thing. Everyone probably 50, 60 people in years and line stepping together on the far end. I see the big pin. I mean, it's not a small operation. This is true bull riding farther back behind that. To the other side, you could do mechanical bull. A little bit on the lighter end for the people just trying to have a good time. But I went and pulled up a chair and watched two hours of people that I assume are professionals. Some maybe not professionals ride live bulls. Well, I just set their head cold beer down. They can take a game the next day. Is this truly a I can sign up and then ride a bull? I mean, because I'm a very confident person. And I feel like the liquid courage might have come up. If I was at this bar Cowboys and would have said, yes, I'd be like to be the one that rides the bulls. So is it complete amateurs up there that are riding? I mean, some pros had signed up. The kicker was it is so popular. The sonops fill up like not even that day. They sign up earlier in the week. But anyone can do it. You just have to I couldn't have done in that moment just because the wait had been too long. I had known about it. But had I known on Monday in theory. I would not have done it. But in theory, I could have I'm sure the waiver they have to sign has it all. Oh, it has. I saw dude like getting paled. I don't know if he was a professional or a guy that just stumbled over from the bar next door. But it is it was as close to a cowboy experiences I've ever seen in my life. It felt like the kind of bar where any moment someone could pick up a beer bottle and just smack some on the head and then it would just turn into a big brawl. It was like a real cowboy scene out of the movies. Like you were in the movie roadhouse and you didn't know what was going to happen. I just I like to think that somebody would go up there and say, no, I don't need the helmet. I'm fine with my cowboy hat, which many bull riders do when they I get some are professionals. But Drew, you can't really pack your cowboy hat on an airplane. You got to I thought about it too. This is a bad one. Yeah, so I'm pretty much worth the same clothes for three days too. I took a backpack. That's all that's how spontaneous it was. But Cowboys was awesome. I sat next to a woman. She's I don't want to guess, but probably fair to assume she was north of 70 years old. Maybe even closer to a digit is an eight as her first digit. She was amazing. She was there by herself. She was from California. She's big in the horse industry and is a truck driver. She was every bit of 120 pounds and she was amazing. She was drinking straight bourbon. She's tougher than I could ever be and I sat there in the front row with her. I added her on Facebook. And at the end of the night, I even wrote her and made her make sure she got home safely. She wrote me the next day to make sure I got home safely. And maybe that's a friendship that will last forever. But me and Mary or Marie in May, I forgot how it pronounced it. That's how we spelled on Facebook. Had a great time with her in the front row, setting up the scene for the big day that followed. But long story short, that's why I'm a little winded. And you made friends made friends. What a night. Great, great, great time. Can't say enough of good things about Oklahoma. Then I'm up at 4 a.m. Sunday morning. I'm at the airport by five. I'm in Lexington on my couch for the NFL. Had to be done. Well, yeah, here, I'll give you something. Drew, my wife's getting a little tired of me saying I have to watch the football games because it's my job. Drew, I don't know where your wife stands on that. And probably after a trip, she probably just handed you the baby and said you got some stuff to do. But mine's getting real tired of me saying, no, I have to watch this game. I can't do anything else. Do you have the same pushback as I do? Most days, she's very supportive. Well, she's supportive every day, but you nailed it. Yesterday, after she had given me her blessing to go be an animal for three days. And you know, maybe stay a little later than I should have. I got to take off from being a dad for 72 hours. When I got home, she said, here's the baby. Here's the to do list. So I was watching football, but I was also very occupied. I had to lock into dead mode there, which was I was happy to very thrilled to get back. But I'll admit, as we go through these games, there are probably portions where I was either feeding or changing a diaper or doing something around the house because I had to play a little bit of catch up. But I stayed, I stayed in tune mostly watch the Sunday night game. Most of the 1 p.m. slate tried to catch some of that 430, but it wasn't the full viewing experience that we normally get. Well, you know, sometimes we record Sunday nights. Sometimes we record Monday afternoons. I'm glad we're recording on Monday today because we've had a ton of news come out over the past, what 12, 20 hours since the playstop. So looking forward to I'll sprinkle that in as we go through some of these games. Yeah. I've got a timeline of games. I kind of did them. Sometimes we do chronological, sometimes storylines. I kind of went with tying in top storylines to the big games here. So we'll just get started run through those. And I think we have to begin with not what was one of the games of the weekend, but maybe the news of the weekend with the Philadelphia Eagles. Yeah. I mean, one they lose to Caroline, which is a story itself. They're now on a skid for four straight losses under Nick Cierani for the first time. But the storyline is what we learned after with Jalen Hertz, reportedly going to miss the rest of the season. He was receiving treatments from blood for blood blood clots. Billy, I know the Eagles are in a slot and, you know, Hertz is going to be out the rest of the year, but it sound like a life threatening situation. Hertz was in and they're hopeful he's going to recover well. But this is a very serious matter and Philly. Yeah, this is a very interesting story because we got the news earlier this week that Hertz had a blood clot in his calf and he would miss the game versus the Carolina Panthers in which he did. Tanner McKee came in and didn't play great. Obviously, and now Philadelphia is two and four on the year. But just this morning, on Monday, we got the news that Jalen Hertz is expected to be sideline for the rest of the season, as they found several blood clots in his lungs, which is a dangerous situation once it gets in your lug. So first and foremost, praying for Jalen Hertz. This is not a football store. This is a health story, right? Just hopefully that he can be okay in general. But we also got some reporting in news that the Eagles knew about the blood clot before the game in London versus Jacksonville after they landed after the international flight. It was found that he had a blood clot in his calf. He said, I believe it was up until four in the morning at a local hospital in London. Jalen Hertz had not slept for 36 hours before he played against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. To his credit, he threw a touchdown, played better in the first half than he did the second. But now we find out the news that the clots are now in his lungs and he's been placed on injured reserve likely to miss the rest of the season. You know, going back to last week with that Jaguar's game, I can't believe they would even play him having been up more than a full day in dealing with a blood clot issue. I'm not a doctor, but I don't think someone with those blood clots is serious. It is with him and having not slept throwing him in to be the starting quarterback of a football game was the wisest move. But luckily, they've dialed him back to getting him treatment, getting him taken care of. They seem optimistic that he's going to be okay long term. But yeah, just insane that he would even play that game with all that he had going on. 21 for 40, 220 yards and a touchdown against Jack.
in Villa week ago, but you hit the nail on the head, Drew. I think the Eagles have some questions that need to be answered because if he's not healthy enough to follow sleep, is he healthy enough to still play in a football game later that day? I also got to think that's tough. I get a little delirious after an all nighter in college. It's been a while since, I mean, you might be able to relate to this a little bit, not having any sleep, Drew, but if he has a blood clot and he still plays in a game, that's dangerous as well. If you're on blood thinners and you get hard enough, you can have some dangerous bleeding. So I, this is really concerning and definitely raises some questions for the Eagles to answer. I mean, I'm on team no sleep, but I'm just hosting an error podcast. Yeah, I'm not even doing it that well. I'm already tripping over words and have lost my voice. I couldn't imagine having to be a starting quarterback in a, in a game that mattered so much that when they had against the Jags last week in London, it's got to lead a team having not slept in two days with all that going on. So amazing that he was able to play and I guess good news following the bad news that they think he's going to be okay, long term pulling inside to get him taken care of, which is a priority. Philly, they're unraveling Tanner McKee played a Stanford quarterback. I guess we like Stanford quarterbacks in the past. But if you're an Eagles fan, hey, you're worried about Jalen Hurds, but also this season, you're looking up, say quads, been out now, Tanner McKee's your quarterback. You go from going into this, thinking you're a contender to this is going to be a long year for Philly. Yeah, I mean, they were down to their fourth, fifth and sixth strength running backs after all the injuries that they've had. They've lost four in a row, like you've mentioned after starting the season two and oh, uh, this is really concerning from them. And Nick Serionis is, is we've talked about over the last couple of weeks or so, how much time does winning a Super Bowl get you? And, and I don't know with all this news coming out. If what this organization is going to do on the flip side, Panthers fans are chanting MVP to Bryce Young, who is leading the NFL and passing yards per game drew. He's looked good so far. He threw for two more touchdowns in this game. They're looking great. He's got the cover zero bump from the Super Bowl last year, playing well. I know that's not a strong division, but they're a game up in that division, heading towards a second playoff appearance if they can keep that role. And so, so good for Carolina, where otherwise the story was all around Philly and and Jalen Hertz in this game yesterday. Moving on, it might not be the second best game of the weekend, but it's my biggest disappointment of the year. I keep saying that every week. So I want to point out the chargers being 0 and 6. Sure, you're not supposed to win this one. It's the chief. She got him a year ago. This was a revenge game for Kansas City, winning 22 to 6. I didn't think LA would win, but bigger picture. The chargers being 0 and 6 now, they're the only winless team in the NFL, six points and zero touchdowns against the division rival. Just absolute embarrassment by the chargers to start this year when they had some, some, I thought some offense of power at least. Yeah, only 259 total yards on offense. It's, they've really struggled. There's some whispers that McDaniel is going to be fired soon for the chargers, maybe rightly so after the way that they've started and all the talent they have on offense. Really disappointing season for Justin Herbert. There's no doubt about it. I guess really the takeaway for me from this game was, was Kenneth Walker, who Super Bowl MVP don't change teams very often. And over the offseason, he went from Seattle to Kansas City. He leads the NFL in rushing and he has the most yards through the first five games with the team since Eric Dickerson and the Rams back in the day. I mean, this is kind of records he's starting to break now, Drew. We know the chiefs kind of got away with one by signing a Super Bowl MVP. It all felt unfair when he landed in Kansas City, knowing that they still had life in that organization after disappointing season. I didn't have him being as good as he's been. If you said he's this is on pace of historic season, but there's no doubt that that signing in the off season with the chiefs getting away with robbery and it's paid off. They're looking good. My home's not a great game here, but they've almost turned into just handed off to Kenneth Walker. Just give it to the workhorse. You know, Walker has more rushing yards than the tire. It's Seattle Seahawks team. And he's played one last game. So like it's that's the kind of number he's putting up. It may not have to be a Patrick Mahomes does it all type of year. Like it's been in years past because Kenneth Walker has looked that good and Seattle's got to be kicking themselves a little bit right now. Any chance they just blow up the Harbaugh experience. I mean, going to the year, no one had him on the hot seat. But when you're the only windless team in the Titans and Browns and Jets, everybody's winning games. They're at least winning a game and the chargers of all teams is 0 and 6. Yeah. Somebody's got to take some blame here. I mean, Mike McDaniel is obviously getting fingers pointed at him, but Herbert and Harbaugh should have had this thing rolling by this point. And they have gone the complete wrong direction. You know, they've had some success in the first years of Harbaugh, but there is, you know, a sense of their needs to be some heads, the role after a season like this. And maybe McDaniels becomes that scapegoat. But this is not a good look. And now you got to wonder if Justin Herbert can be salvaged. Shocking how that season has started. And then yesterday, losing to the chiefs in that division, moving on another shocking result yesterday. And may, yeah, shocking start for this team, too. What is wrong with the Rams, Billy 12 and a half point favorite playing the Cardinals. And you'll lose 18 to 16 and just lose 18 to 16 and itself is an embarrassing story. Cardinals, the team scored touchdown in this game and the Rams fall to two and four. The team that people were saying are going to be the first undefeated teams since those dolphins are now two and four or six weeks in the season. Another huge disappointment. I mean, we keep excusing it as they've taken a few losses. You're saying, well, eventually turn it on. But is there any chance they're just not good? I don't know what to make from this game. The Rams lead the NFL in total offense in Arizona has allowed 148 points in the last four games. Yet the Rams only score 16. The Cardinals kicked six field goals and snap a four game losing streak. It's just, it's unreal. Really, all I thought about was the kicker controversy during this game because did you see Blake groupie get lit up in the first quarter and have to leave for the rest of the game? I did. And what adds to that is when they released Mevis and son groupie, he kind of went viral for how literally looks. He's got to be the tiniest guy in the entire NFL 245 pounds. Yes, ticker. Blake groupie is 150 is what I don't believe he's 150, maybe with the pass on. Yes. So that guy saw it kind of became a meme earlier in the week. Why on Sunday? Am I watching him try to make a tackle? That was never going to work. I hope he's okay. But they just got out. Yeah, spun around. He was trying to prove some people wrong. I think he had heard the doubters. He had heard the internet shatter of how people don't even think he's 150 pounds. He kickers are people too. And he wanted to make a tackle drew. But yet in this situation, you got to realize you're more valuable than other players on the roster. When there's a position where there's only one on the roster, you have to be a little bit wiser than that. And man, he went shoulder first right into that guy and got plowed over. The Rams had to use their punter for the rest of the game to kick fill goals. So I mean, they'll probably sign somebody this week, somebody, somebody different than that. But what thing to do in the first quarter of your first game with the new team? Like you got to make a decision there. I'm sure you wanted to show him good tape. And we love your heart and your determination. But buddy, there's a lot of football after that play. And I don't know if we'll see him again. He made his first fill goal, kicked one from about 45 before, as you said, the punter had to come in and finish the game. But just if he could go back, I think he would let that guy go by and say, I'm going to look out for myself here. I really maybe not take one of those team here. I get it. I can kind of put myself in his shoes, want to prove to his new teammates that he can be the guy. Kickers are left to the side during practice, right? And it can be a tough existence to even feel like an actual player on the team. So I can, I can completely see where he's coming from wanting to make that tackle. But man, you just can't do that in that situation. But probably one of the better moments of the week as the Rams lose again, they're what are they two and four one and three at home. That's unbelievable, isn't it? Yeah. I mean, on the other side, Chad Ryle and player of the game for the Cardinals six for six on fill goals. So on one side, we got a kicker getting hurt trying to tackle a linebacker and then Chad Ryle on the perfect game 18 to 16 L.A. Come on. That's embarrassing. Sean McVey was so mad Monday night when they dropped that game for the bills. I didn't get to see his post game press conference back for losing the Cardinals last week. He said it's the maddest he's ever been. He probably topped the Imagine Air and Donald who came out of retirement to play for this team and they're now two and four. Imagine Miles Garrett leaving the first place Cleveland Browns to go to the last place Los Angeles Rams. Wow. That is insane. I didn't make that connection. Yeah. Yeah. Well, let's just skip to the Browns game then since you brought it up. Sure. Let me I got to go further down on my notes because I wasn't prepared for that one. Browns had a big game. They're now leading the AFC North after beating the Baltimore Ravens of all teams 13 to 10. Another exciting game. The old Tyler Huntley versus the Sean Watson duel. Everyone wanted. Huntley got the best women touchdowns, but the Browns get the win. You made you made the point. They blew up that team thinking we're a long rebuild. Let's go get rid of Miles Garrett. Go feed a contender and then stretch this thing out and buy us some more time. They're the ones winning four and two this year. Browns are four and two to Sean Watson has four fourth quarter game winning drives. He did it again leading the Browns to a fuel go late in this game. You know, I think Baltimore will be fine. This is another game without Lamar Jackson despite, you know, Snoop Huntley being the backup for all this years. He is a significant downgrade from Lamar. It's not just a clear cut replace, but so I think they'll be
be fine, but this is more about the browns that the dog pounds got to be loving everything about it. Brown spider and first lady have to be completely jumping for joy. Maybe they'll they'll celebrate their wedding anniversary at another tailgate this year. But did you see Todd munking after the game saying he just doesn't want to go to sleep? No, I did not see that in my perspective. He's like, you know, it's such a quick turnaround in the NFL. It's on to the next game. You got to watch the tape immediately the next day. He lay in bed and just doesn't want to go to sleep. Like he's a little kid before Christmas. I kind of related to that a little bit. And I I like what Todd's doing down there in Cleveland. Yeah, exciting times to be a brown. Uh, Judkins didn't even play their starting running back. I know that because I played you in fantasy and I started him started because he's out. I thought about calling you. That's all right. You told me not to. I had Kenneth Walker. So I'm okay. And I think you're still going to win the game. So Walker's carrying me with me, starting Judkins who's out, uh, not my best move, but good on the browns for winning without him. On the other end, disappointed by Derek Henry 58 yards. I thought this would be a big Derek Henry game. Didn't find the in zone. Do we worry about the Ravens at all? They're still four and two, but without Lamar, you know, they could be stacking some losses that they shouldn't have. It depends on when Lamar comes back, right? They didn't put them on injured reserve. So they I think they think he's close. Maybe playing next week, but you're right. You'd think Derek Henry would just run wild, but you got to give credit to this browns defense for that reason, right? For keeping Derek in check and and say flowers back healthy again. He's he's pretty good, but couldn't do it himself. So I'm not hitting the panic button on the Ravens yet, but this is a division where everybody is about 500, I believe in the AFC North. Well, after this, the Ravens play Cincinnati. I think you need to win that when you've already lost to Cleveland, which going in the air, you wouldn't have thought that'd be one of them. And you have a loss to New Orleans of all teams have your two losses. It gets a little tougher moving here. They have the bingles. Uh, it's at home, but huge for that division. Then you go to Buffalo, then you have Jacksonville. So it's kind of one of those things, even though in four and two, you don't have to take on too many more, especially in that division being so good you're talking about. So they need the Lamar to get back and get healthy. So Baltimore can make the run that I think everyone believes they still can, but losing to the browns, a bit of a setback for them. And their wins are only against Indy Dallas, Tennessee and Atlanta. So not the the murder actually row that maybe other teams have faced. So we'll we'll have to keep an eye on them. Well, that sets our up our next game. The browns are going to Tennessee next week. Tennessee, the Titans, the Titans, Billy, we did it. We are not going winless in 2026. We went into Indianapolis and beat a rival, the Colts. That's a team that had won like 11 out of 13 a few years ago against the Titans. So we got out of that curse. Tennessee goes up there, gets the first win of the season after trailing 13 to nothing at halftime. I'll admit I was locked in this game like I always am at halftime. I thought we could not score in this game, losing to the Colts, but late in the game, a blocked pump return touchdown. He'll turn the game big interception by the Titans with a little toe touch grab on the sideline to stop a Colts drive late. And Tennessee gets out there out of their 26 to 20, not the best game overall, but Billy, we won. And with the team like this, that's that's all on the cam ward 100 yards passing. Yeah, it's going to say cam ward 11 of 22, 102 yards touchdown in an interception. 13 is 0.5. You thought it might be just the same old story, but you're exactly right. Special teams leads the way and the Titans knock me out of my survivor pool. My coveted covers zero survivor. It's over. I asked you to talk me out of it. You did not. And the Titans get a victory. Just when you thought they might tank for the first pick to get somebody else. I mean, you had to be loving this true. I was through all your teams won this weekend. Yeah. Well, one fell short and we'll talk about my second favorite NFL team with my wife's team, but I did get the Kentucky Titans double win, which has been very rarely. I was thrilled. Like overall, not a great product of football, but you had the block punt for a touchdown. I mentioned the interception. Big Jeff Simmons was awesome. He forced a critical fumble about Jonathan Taylor. He's been disappointing this year later in that game. So the operation wasn't as good as I wanted it to be, but they made huge plays in timely moments to help them get the big win. And as I said, the Browns rub next, maybe we start stacking some wins. Oh, well, I know the Browns are better than anyone wanted to be, but if you want, if you're the Titans and you want to win two in a row, looking up and seeing Cleveland isn't the is anything to be afraid of. That's true. Watch out. I'll let them get high. I think this is more about the cult. Soon hour now, two and four Daniel Jones a rough game. And a news note for you, Drew this morning, the Colts fired their general manager, Chris Ballard. It was his tenth season with Indianapolis last year. The Colts were eight and two. And he traded two first round picks for sauce gardener to the jets extended Daniel Jones coming off in Achilles injury. And that owner that's taking notes on the sideline had seen enough firing Chris Ballard this morning. The sauce move was a little weird last year. That obviously didn't pan out with rivers and everything else. It almost feels like he's been running a little video game down a steve out of rivers. Yeah, it's just been a wonky couple year and a half or two years for Indianapolis. Kind of shocking they are where they where they are in the AFC South, which Billy, I'm happy to tell you with two games still to go against Jacksonville, get the Texans again and the Colts, the Tennessee Titans control their own destiny in the AFC South. Sure, they're in last place now, but there's still a lot of football left in that division. Got your first win, got some confidence. It is not over for the Tennessee Titans. Okay. Well, that is truly the definition of fan. It is short for what fanatic. And that is the fanatic coming out of you a little bit. There's still a chance. Well, two weeks ago, I gave you all a rant that went viral because I'm a fan. My emotions ride high in either direction. And now I'm ready to go out and win the AFC South. We got one. We'll go get a second with Cleveland. And then we'll just figure out what's after that. But right now, let me be happy and let me dream in this week's six recap show when it comes to Chris Ballard for a second. It really is about getting the quarterback position. Right. Here's his week one starters with Chris Ballard as the general manager. Scott Tollson, Andrew Luck, Jacobi Bersett, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Anthony Richardson, and Daniel Jones are your cast of characters. It's just been tough for place in Andrew after all these years. Yeah. Well, you kind of get that happening. But go ahead for making moves. I saw another clip of her on the sideline with her, just taking her notes. I mean, she's out there grinding and being a boss. Well, it's not going to sit around and let the cults be three and three on her watch and not making any moves to that point. She has a strong relationship with Shane Steak. And that's been coming out after this news with Chris Ballard. And maybe when you're on the headset for the entire game, you get a good idea of what the coach does and maybe not what the general manager does. So that's why maybe a move was made. Well, in the night game, the other team I like to see when Dallas let me down. I could have gotten the Kentucky Titans Cowboys triple weekend that we have in my house where my wife's a big Cowboys fan, but they came up short against the Packers. They stink. I kind of thought the Packers would win this game. I did not have Dallas only scoring 13 points and trailing 17 to nothing at halftime. At halftime, I went to bed. I had it on with no sound. I'd glance at it, but I completely lost interest after watching the first half. Huge, huge, huge disappointment. There was one moment where I thought they had some life interception return for touchdown. Amazing interception return, really, but you got called back where the back of the glove kind of swiped him when he had fallen down on the catch, calling him down from there on. I mean, the Cowboys just hadn't had no life. Huge disappointment. Now, third straight loss. And I say it's a good offense. I do feel like they're going to waste a year where Jack and CD had something going because defense had been good. And in this game, the offense wasn't good. Yeah, that Dallas defense has been bad, especially in past defense. You saw Jordan love just carve them up. Matthew Golden, the first receiver picked in last years draft or I guess the year before this last one finally came out and played pretty good as well as Christian Watson's been playing good this year. So, you know, Green Bay finds himself, I think at four and two now and they've kind of steadyed the ship after many thought they would fall to the wayside. But this is about Dallas. What Jerry Jones is going to say on the radio, who knows? Because I think they're running out of excuses. The defense accordion or went to the booth and it didn't didn't help. You're really, I mean, Green Bay was still able to get the victory at the end. But this one was in Lambo. One that covers here, I thought about going to. I think this was like kind of number two on our list. We'll be going to Chicago Tampa here in a few weeks, but this was number two. But Green Bay gets the victory and you're right. 17 is 0 and half. You're like, what are they doing? I mean, a sunny night game. You got to entertain. Yes. Yeah. I am not entertained as as we saw last night. The Cowboys defense has kind of been the story and they spent the whole week trying to fix it. And then the defense played all right in this game. I mean, love still had a good game. You mentioned gold and he also dropped in wide open touch. I mean, he could have had an even bigger night. Uncharacteristic dropped by him on a perfect throw from love, but they still had a big game. Get the win. Green Bay four and two. We know that division's loaded still a lot of football left and that. But I want to look at the NFC East standings. Dallas is two and four. They look like a very flawed football team, but they also look around them and see the Eagles who we just talked about what they're going through. You have James Winston with the Giants and then the commanders at one and three in that division. Or else you'd have a tie and then play tonight. So one three and one with the game upcoming. So Dallas even's bad. They look, I mean, what do we make of them still getting into the playoffs? Can they still finish and be a contender? I think Dallas is the favorite to win their division still believe it or not. Like, let me go check on draftings right now. They are. They are plus one 10 to win the NFC East with the Giants at plus two 10. The commanders at plus four 50 and the Eagles at plus five 50. So with the the news with J. Levin.
and hurts being out for the entire year. I mean, unless you think JJ McCarthy is going to lead the giants on some magical run, I, and, and I guess Jalen Daniels playing a lot better for the commanders. Maybe it is the Cowboys division for the taking, but I don't want to hear any more jokes about the NFC South after the division we're getting here from the NFCs. This could be one of the worst divisions of all time. It's part injury. I mean, every team but the Cowboys has had to play a backup quarterback at some point. And I'm as disappointed in the Cowboys as anyone, but when you look at the teams, they have to beat out to get the playoffs. I, I'm, I'm agreeing with the odds there that it's dialysis to win, even though they've looks so disappointing. Jay, they're just catching an absolute break by the competition around them. You put them in any other division and I say they're on the couch for Justin Herbert. Yeah. This is, this is incredible. Maybe the commander show us a little life in the Monday night game tonight and Daniels is, it's just healthy and doesn't miss another game. And, but they play the 49er. So I expect them to go to one four and one and, and continue to struggle. So what a bizarre year for the NFC East and maybe Thanksgiving. We're going to see that this division really be defined. Houston, Jacksonville, they gave us a good game speaking of the AFC South. Two teams that also control their own destiny in theFC South. No way you watch that one, Drew. Coming back from your trip. Well, I was actually a little London game. Well, I was actually in the air and in the back of the plane in the last seat next to the bathroom, there was no TV access. So I couldn't, I would have watched it if I had been home, but I was flying from Oklahoma City to Kentucky at that moment. So no, I watched zero of it, but I see 3431. What do you think about Houston? Someone's in some signs of life after they couldn't get a win to start the year. Well, the Texans were on for last year, right? And then they finished, or they were two and four. Yeah, they were on for last year and they made the playoffs. They finished 12 and five. They find the themselves in the same situation now two and four, just like last year. And CJ Stroud and Lawrence combined for seven touchdowns in this game. It really to me, it was the Travis Hunter game. He had a receiving touchdown. He's playing offense again and then had a huge interception that allowed Jacksonville to go and tie that game before Houston eventually ended up winning it. So Travis was playing both ways. These the first guys and Brian Dawkins in 2002 to have a receiving touchdown and an interception in the same game. So I think he's finally living up to that, that high draft pick that Jacksonville used on him. Yeah. I thought they'd given up on the two way there, but it certainly worked out yesterday with him making the big offensive plague and a touchdown and then the pick cam little bomb to fill goal from 60 something. Not like his swaggy confidence that he's got. Kickers aren't supposed to have that drew, but he does. And I kind of like, he's earned it. But then Fairbaring turns around, hits the game winner. One more shout out. It was Marvin Harrison's first game in Houston as they had him to help that offense. Not huge numbers, but he had three big catches that I think extended drives. And then Stroud kind of playing an offensive game that they won him out of him all year too. So good for Houston and trying to salvage that season after their second straight, Owen Forstone and Trevor Lawrence. Again, man, putting up numbers. I know they lost that game, which is a little uncharacteristic of their defense who had been playing well this year. But Trevor is him and Liam Cohen seemed to be a match made in heaven right now. Yeah. And you know, Houston's already got one over Tennessee. Jacksonville has stood still two more to play, but they should watch their backs. I know they're both good football teams, but there's a there's a team wearing two tone blue and Nashville sneaking up on them. That's right. Keep losing Jacksonville. I'm trying to be like, don't let me have no back. Let me dream, Billy. Okay. I will. New England fans are dreaming again. Looks like a Drake May step back season. And then after beating Buffalo a couple of weeks ago, they've won three straight games, May with three touchdowns, beaten the Jets yesterday as the Patriots keep rolling and contending in that division. I bill you tune in for for the Pats and Jets well Red Zone flipped over it to it a few times, which it was the Red Zone's 300th episode on Sunday. So Scott was very sentimental about some of the players who had scored the most touchdowns while the Red Zone was going on and things like that. The Patriots have won 19 of the last 21 games versus the Jets. So I don't know how many people thought that this was going to be an upset by any means, but they kept it close. New England had three injured offensive linemen in the game yet Drake may still through for three touchdowns. That kind of is the story of the game for me. And AJ Brown, you know, he's working back from injury, but he had three drops, only three catches in the game for 27 yards. You know, I he's lucky. He was on that Philadelphia team because that may be the only success you'll feel have. Yeah, I love me some Arthur one brown from his Titans days, but very disappointing ending news time and Philly and he has not done much for New England this year. I'm with you though. I think the stories Drake may. There was a big overreaction to his start to the season, including us here on NFL cover zero, including the playoffs last year. Just an absolute turnover machine for several games in a row. But then the last three's turned things around three touchdowns yesterday that I turn over. I think he's back in that standing of top five ish quarterback in I don't know about MVP candidate this year, but he looks like a quarterback who can make a run for that award year in and you out. I think he's got a good enough supporting cast where this team can have success and in via for that division title with Buffalo. Hell they were in the Super Bowl just last year, but I was impressed. Traveey on Henderson played with a high ankle sprain. Didn't miss a single game after having a high ankle sprain in the last game drew. These guys are just kind of built different from us because you better believe I had a high ankle sprain. It'd be two months before you'd see me do something like that. It's because they get the medical attention to see if we had what everything that they have, we'd be like that too. If we had training tables and doctors and knee braces and leg braces all if we had all these things in our exposure, we could do this bill. It's just that, you know, we're awesome. They're them. I like to think the same thing like if I was getting smoothies handed to me at the time I walked in the facility, I would be able to gain the weight and have those muscles, right? Yeah, but we have to like go to a smoothie store and pay $14. So I can't be do I have food until 2 p.m. Some days it intermittent fasting, they don't do any of that in the NFL. I think how many yards we could rush for if we just had everything to help us out, but we don't. It's a modern science. Can't even afford a YMCA membership. We just got better cameras. Let's take a one thing at a time. Exactly. But big win for the pets. Jets. I mean, nothing new. Listen to England. Enjoy the two wins you have so far this year, maybe you can get a few more. Matt's Bears played Falcons high scoring game Chicago gets the 31 23 win Chicago 4 and 2 Atlanta falls to 2 and 4. Kevin Williams awesome 30 of 36 over 300 yards and a touchdown for 83% completion rate is a record for a Bears quarterback with at least 30 attempts. Great day for the offense, holding off Atlanta, but you know, Atlanta also showing some life on offense, even though you don't get this game, maybe do you think there's some some Michael Pinnock's life in Atlanta? There is. Yeah. I think he's actually a decent quarterback. You know, he was a surprising pick as high as he was in that draft and, and you know, kind of waited for his turn and now looks like he could be the future in Atlanta. But you saw it immediately with Caleb. He started the game 12 for 12. He's just a difference maker. He is that good. And they led this game 31 to seven before Atlanta started to come back. Pinnock throws for three touchdowns, but Chicago gets the victory. They're running back slid right before the goal line. You got to talk about the most disciplined thing you can do as an NFL player. That's gotta be it, isn't it, Drew? It is. And as a gambler, I've been on the wrong in this before. It's excruciating for those who's in the home on the couch. But it's a heavy play that I wouldn't be able to make in the moment. Of course not. I need the numbers. Yeah, I'd be front flipping under the end zone and in a lot of contracts like incentive laid into like get a certain amount of touchdowns and you could get an $800,000 bonus like that'd be tough to do. It's a very selfless. We saw Nick Chubb do it before in the past arguments that it should be done more often, but I just don't think I'd have the discipline to do something like that. I need to some discipline on the show. I noticed in setting up this game, I've said this team has had life like seven times. So Billy, if I say that again, I need new phrase. I keep leading on that too much. I don't know if it's the lack of sleep or while I'm latching on to that phrase, but I've hit my over on that phrase this podcast. I think it's because the Titans might have some life. There we go. And so maybe you're starting to attribute it with any every down and out team that shows a little bit of spark. Drew, I understand. Well, I'm just realizing I'm being very repetitive, very unintentional, but good when from Matt's Bears, who we will be going to see one guy like us at two weeks away. Yeah, soon. I think that's beginning of November. So two or three weeks here at this point. Yeah, we're going to Sunday night football bears versus Billy's bucks. Like I said, a few weeks away, but Billy, you looking forward to get back on the road. We bring this up as Matt is currently still on a KSR road trip. And I'm recovering from my abbreviated version of one, but soon we will be making our first trip to soldier field. I've never been how about you? It may be our first in our last soldier field. It could be relocating to Hammond, Indiana. Excited to see the troughs of Chicago and the underbelly as we are media members and try to go interview players after the game, but I'm looking forward to it. My bucks are really disappointing me this year. I thought this might be a NFC matchup that could be again in the playoffs, but it doesn't look like that anymore. Yeah, you lost to the stealer yesterday. Yeah, you had a chance to do something for Matt and beat Aaron Rogers, but you go down in that game. How'd your boy, Jalen Daniels look? He had a crucial interception late in the game to Jalen Ramsey. Look, he's exciting. He converted like a long fourth down on the final drive of the game. So he's he's definitely better than a than you would think an undrafted player in his rookie season would be, but this was a bucks team that led 16 to 3 in the fourth quarter. And I can't blame that collapse on him alone. This is an all system failure by the team. All five of Tampa Bay's losses have been by seven points or left. So it's just been that kind of year for Tampa losing close games.
times. Um, it's terrible when a posing fan base comes into your stadium and takes over and I, and I know you know what I'm talking about as a Titans fan over there. I call that sundays, but that's the terrible towels were everywhere in Tampa. And it's just demoralizing man. And I can imagine being a player. It'd be in demoralizing when you see that. There were a couple of funny moments from this game. Uh, Josiah Trotter is on the Tampa Bay bucks. His, his dad was a good player back in the day. And Josiah got a plague against Aaron Rodgers and Rogers looked at him and said, you know, I know your dad. He was better than you did see that clip. And so I love that from Aaron. He can have some fun on the field. And Mike McCarthy heard his ankle on his way to the sideline interview at half time. He actually never made it to the locker room drew. He went into the blue medical tent and stayed there the entire uh, inner mission of Steelers came out and eventually won the game. So I guess it wasn't that bad, but it was tough going from Mike McCarthy there. I was happy for your early. I saw a book. I get the big touchdown catch. You had that lead and I was thinking, okay, maybe Tampa's going to go a little run before we get to go watch him in person. You lose this one. Steelers, we talked a lot about that division earlier, but also four and two in the AFC North part of that big crowd right there. Good win for them. It's rare that we go this long when not mentioned the Buffalo bills. But Billy, as I told you, they'd win, but stay in Vegas. They didn't cover close game with the Raiders 33 to nothing. I told you last week midweek that this would be close when it shouldn't be because they were stupid. It didn't go to home to Buffalo and sleep in their own beds. They got cocky and they stayed in Vegas for a week and they play with their food a little bit. Raiders scoring 17/4 quarter points to make a little more interesting than it really was, but still bills eking out a 33/30 win in Las Vegas over the Raiders. Kirk cousins back plan quarterback played pretty well in this one, but Josh Allen is Josh Allen. James Cook had a big game and bills moving all the win. Speaking of Vegas, this was a high total. It was like 52/53 and they blew that out of the water. So hopefully they somebody was able to double dip on that. But Josh Allen's shovel pass 20 yards into the end zone was a play I've never seen before drew that guy does things every week that you could say something like that. So that was a crazy moment. And then Jim Nance breaking his wrist doing the peanut punch with JJ one. They've been the moment of the year. I didn't have that in my notes, but I'm glad you brought that up. I thought him saying or Jim saying my wrist is broken is a a a quip that I think will live on for a while. It was it was great. JJ's like I didn't expect you to do it that hard. I had the same thought watching at home. And then he came back from break. He's got ice and a bandage wrapped around the hand. It wasn't mentioned again on the broadcast, but was that not a good look for Jim or what did you think hilarious all the video? I thought it was going to be a little bit, you know, they're going over the peanut punch and he takes a full hammer swing at it. Who JJ what? Obviously, he's not going to budge. And then we kind of got an alley for Jim Nance. There's everyone home reacted to him. What are you doing? Well, look, I mean, the bills had been turned over the ball. They had nine turnovers in the last three weeks. So maybe JJ doing a demonstration of what James Cook needed to do. And it worked. The bills had zero turnovers and ended up winning the game. They also had the bill safety C.J. Gardner ejected for spitting at a Raiders player. It's got a calm down. It's a six team and six seasons. And I think now you know why I saw the clip and I thought it was him, but I couldn't tell right away. Tell you spun us all the back of the jersey. It's like, of course, for him. It's always him. It's always to be him. He's always looking for mischief, not surprised to see him in the mix. We know the bills offense. What it is, you mentioned them getting their turnovers cleaned up. They've given up 64 points in the last two games. They've survived West Coast swing. The big Rams game Monday night. And then this one, are we worried at all that that defense could be their ultimate downfall from what they really want to accomplish? Or do you think they'll just keep surviving because Josh Allen's on their team? No, I it is concerning like they're like 31st or 32nd in past defense. It's almost like the opposite of the Vikings who find themselves undefeated, but with a great defense in an offense that can't do very much. They've been asking Josh Allen to carry this team. Will this team do a Super Bowl for many years? And he hasn't quite and gotten over that hump. So it is concerning that in a, you know, you're starting to run out of prime years. A Josh Allen who's breaking records. He tied Jim Kelly for the most passing touchdowns in Bill's franchise history in this game. Yes, it is concerning. They say defense wins championships. I don't fully subscribed to that. But if you don't have a defense at all, it's the 31st ranked defense. That's going to hold you back from achieving your, your goals. Definitely. You by on them are the chiefs. So if you had to pick right now in the AFC chiefs, just because I how are they going to stop Kenneth Walker? Like now if he got hurt that John Walker versus Kenneth Walker, you match up when those two club. Yeah. The way that Kenneth is playing like you wonder why Seattle had him as the second running back behind Charbonne all those years, right? He has just been primed and ready to go. So right now, I think I'm taking Kansas City, even though Buffalo's offense probably looks a little better. I'll be different. Say Buffalo and call this a two game blip on the given up 30 something points. It's still flawed though. I just feel like Josh Allen's eventually got to get over that home. I mean, eventually the numbers just pan out when you're in the mix every single year, it has to go your one, your way eventually just makes big numbers. Yeah, James Cook's been good over outside that turnover and over time last week. I just I feel like Buffalo has to eventually get their moment and please don't let this defense be what spoils it because it feels like that offense is ready to get there and the defense needs to correct a lot of things in your first season and a new stadium would be a lot of fun to for Buffalo. That would, but I do think staying in Vegas all week made this a little closer than it should have. In the last Sunday game, we didn't get to for obvious reasons, Saints giants. You did get your boy nine playing quarterback in New York, but Tyler Schutt got the best of him. New Orleans winning of this game is a slight underdog. I bet the money line here, Billy, kind of like I said, it bills knocking on the door, a big picture over the years. I felt like this season, the Saints had been knocking on the door and needed another win. They had one going in this game, but I just felt that the Saints were going to get it done playing the giants. They deserved it. They're better than their one in four records suggested. And the Saints going to New York and win 3427. Tyler Schutt three touchdowns. No interceptions. James and McCarthy split duties in the loss. Yeah, this was a strange one. You know, New Orleans is down 10 to zero then they score 34 straight points and kind of really got things going bad. James came out a couple times. That's why Jay Jay McCarthy came in and then, you know, I actually look pretty okay. Like, he goes slinging it around. I'm not going to be the one to lead the charge there, but you could probably see a lot more. Jay Jay McCarthy moving forward. Then you do, James, I was, I was about cams cataboo getting benched. And John Hopper was like, Oh, it wasn't a benching wasn't a benching. Just say it, John, you cost me my fantasy game. He didn't have a single catch or even a single target. That is not how you need to treat your boy after he fumbles to almost lose the game versus the commanders. They didn't lose Drew. They tied. I think it was unfair to bench cams cataboo. And then play act like you didn't do anything in the post game. I didn't know you were such a cam fan. I mean, I'm going to lose my fantasy match up to one Drew Franklin because. Can't remember. I played a running back that didn't play at all, but I get it. That's supposed to cancel out. I'm supposed to have the edge. I understand. Mine is just negligence. I just forgot to make a sub. You, you game plan for this and then Harball surpass you. I got a problem with Harball after that. Yeah. Just tell us that you benched the guy. You don't have to like play coy. That was the decision you made because he didn't see the field at all, which is a shame because they, they ended up just falling just short in this one. Okay. Week six, October 19th, rank your Harball as a disappointment right now. Jim or John started to work your way to one. So at least disappointing first. Yeah. Least disappointing would be Jim Harball, even after all this. I think going 0 and 6 with Justin Herbert has to be the number one disappointment. Number two has to be John because he don't start cams cataboo. You're going to cost me a win in the cover zero fantasy league. And then third is Jack Harball. He didn't do anything wrong, but he should be considered as somebody that saved the Western Kentucky football program. That's that's quite the reference here on an NFL show. Save the Western Kentucky football program and has had a lot of success in Hill topper legend. That's right. Number three, not disappointing at all, Jack Harball. We are pro Jack Harball. We're out on Jim and John at least through week six right now. They can work their way back in. That's right. And he's still alive, right? Like he's not dead. Yeah, Jackson. Okay. Probably not John. No, I don't know if John can say what he's going on. Last one going back to last Thursday just because we got to mention it was such a big game. We attuned in for Denver and Seattle. Oh, boy was I. Yes, I was. It was kind of an ugly games. Over time. Yeah, we got over time. I think that we've had eight or nine over time games this year, which has been a lot of fun. But Denver won this game with only 168 total yards of offense. I mean, that's our record dating back to 1983 for the Denver Broncos to win a game with that few of yards. And Sam Darnold on the flip side, they had he had two interceptions this year. He has seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. Are you concerned at all about Sam Darnold? I mean, he's missed two games as well. Do you think the ghosts are back? Do you think he moved to Seattle and the ghosts lost him? They're like, oh, where do you go? He's way all west. And the ghosts have just now caught up to Darnold and Seattle. He had a free year without seeing ghosts and now he's seeing them again. I like to think that. Yes, they couldn't find them for that first year. But you lose a guy like Kenneth Walker. You don't have a rushing attack and your rookie running back is injured early on. And maybe there is a little bit more pressure for Darnold to perform. But Denver, I think, you know, they find themselves four and two right now, Drew. And they've had a really tough schedule so far. So I think maybe surprises of the early season. I think you have to include Denver. They flag Kansas City, Jacksonville, the Rams, San Francisco, the Chargers, and Seattle. So I mean, that's, I mean, that's a pretty good six stretch up games.
for them to be four and two is pretty impressive. I have no idea how it didn't keep from winning. They have to be the worst good team in football. Besides Minnesota, I would agree with you. Four Minnesota. Yeah. Pretty shocking to have Seattle at three and three. With the 49ers playing tonight on Sunday night football, I mean, double check the standing suit. They'll have a three game lead if they're to win in there, right? And they're five and oh. And then Seattle's three and three, then you got L.A. at two and four. Yeah. I mean, the 400s run away with this division with the former Super Bowl champs in the Super Bowl favorite in it. Well, that is surprising considering that, you know, we've seen this division be the best in football over these last couple of years. You had three teams in the playoffs last year in San Francisco and Seattle and L.A. So yeah, I got to think the Rams are going to turn this around. They'll get miles, care it back. There's no way they lose more games through this. They were already supposed to be undefeated this year as Myron Medcalfe told us these division games are always important. And now when Seattle and L.A. get a shot at the 49ers, you can't drop the ball there. I mean, you have to win those games to have a fight to win that division. Somebody might get into the wild card, but 49ers look like they're going to be the ones to be the champs. Even though it is only six weeks in the season, they got to stay healthy, guys stay healthy. But could move to six and oh tonight, regardless of five and oh, a great start for them with all the injuries they've had. Rock party's been awesome. 13 touchdowns. Two interceptions. Uh, 49 has been rolling. You want to make a prediction? Got the commanders tonight. I know you'll die pretty quickly as we're doing this episode day of the game. Yeah. And I'd like to argue we just throw out our picks this week. It's going to throw off the numbers with Matt, like there's no reason to like include our picks on a week that Matt wasn't in. You know what I mean? I assume they're really good last week. But you know, you're right. When Matt being out, it would just make the numbers wonky, kind of like a tie in the division standings. I think you got five games, right? No, no, because we haven't got that up. No one heard what Billy just said. We did not do our picks last week with Matt out. I'm still alive in the survivor pool, by the way. No, you've to go on that. Am I on that? I would have let you have that one if you had a pick against the tight. Well, that doesn't seem right, but regardless, I think we throw out those picks when Matt comes back. I know we didn't have a traditional headline section because of a lot of our games. We're the headlines, but were there any news notes or any of house cleaning items we have before we wrap up this week's week six midweek show? We're good for the most part. Or we hit, we hit baller being fired by the cults, Jalen Hertz and his blood clot situation, the Browns being first in the NFC North. Nobody scored more than 30 plus fantasy points this week, which is something that doesn't happen very often, true. And then we mentioned, oh, my favorite part of the week was the peanut punch. So now we did all the, we did all the notes for this week. We'll be back in a few days with Matthew Jones as he gets back from Norman, sleeps off that trip. I think you need to get some sleep. I mean, a celebratory sleep after the Titans got their big victory. Well, I can't sleep during Monday night football because it's my fantasy quarterback and my fantasy tight end. And I need, I think like 15 points to beat you. So I will be locked in the Monday night football. Sorry, honey. I can't cook dinner tonight. I have to watch this game. I got away with the NFL. Are you got a pot of chili on the stove right now? Dinner has already been taken care of. That is a, that is better thinking than what I'm doing in my first year as being a husband drew year. I brought it with us. Well, she made the pot. Yeah. Well, she's a cover zero listener. Let me take that back. Yeah. She's a listener. So I don't want to get called out at home, making it sound like I made the chili. All I said was there is a pot of chili at home. I made no statement about me making it.
