We've got a roll bowl list and we're talking about football and the NFL. We spent a lot of time talking about the bucks and their draft. We're going to continue to do that but expand it a little bit further with the rest of their division opponents in the NFC South as well. I'm your host, Matt Matarra, joined with me. The faceer runs the place of Pewter Report podcast, Scott Reynolds. And our guest of the afternoon, one of our favorite people in box media has fantastic facts, information and always keeps it going. Greg, I'm in a Fox Sports toys the show, the OM and that Greg. Thank you for joining this afternoon. How's everything going? Good guys. Good to be on with you. Thanks for having me. Always a blast talking to you. I know that your scope in terms of NFL coverage is really league wide. But we have tunnel vision here at Pewter Report on the Buccaneers and then probably expanding a little bit more to the NFC South and then the NFC. And then the AFC, we really don't know until they're on the Bucc scheduled and we'll kind of dial into them. But you kind of see things from a 30,000 foot view. And I'm curious as to your take on this from an NFC South standpoint because lo and behold, this team did not win the South last year. Three teams finished eight and nine. Carolina Panthers won the division due to a tiebreaker. The Buccaneers as we all know just fell short and I think probably was a good thing that happened in hindsight. I want to kind of start there before we dive into the draft. The Bucks had made a lot of changes here, Greg, the soft season from coaches to personnel. Usually they reassigned a bunch of their own players. They kind of churned the roster. Do you think we would have seen this many changes if an eight and nine Buccaneer team had won the division and kind of snuck in like they did back in 2022? Yeah, probably not as much. I mean, the theme last couple of years with pride has been keeping the band together, keeping every free agent after the Super Bowl year. And again, I think that's pride in what you have kind of saying this was a winning formula. You want to keep that going with the same pieces. And to their credit, they kind of flip that upside down. I mean, this is a year where almost all your depth, there's a couple guys back. There's a couple co-keyed and Dan Feney tied back on league minimum contracts. But except for, I guess you'd say K-Dot and got a good deal. But most everybody that got to free agency, they were cool with that. I mean, not like these guys got crazy money to go somewhere else. So I think it just speaks to, especially when you think about the veterans that they've added. Like I think eight of their 16 oldest players right now are brand new. So it's almost like you wanted to, again, this coincides with two absolute leaders being gone in Mike Evans and Obatte David. I think you want to import leadership, if you will. And you do that to kind of change the, you know, say culture because the culture's there. But to change it, there's maybe a lack of edge or a lack of attitude. Additude's probably a good word for it. I think very consistently both in what they did in pre-agency and what they did in the draft, they're a tougher team. And again, I don't say that to call out last year's team as being softer or something. I just think they, I will say they're soft. I think they went out of the way to, I mean, again, it's almost like it's funny that you hear Jason very consistently now. There's a lot of talk of this, I am that man. And that they went out of the way to find good character people. And you've kind of seen him almost backpedal a little to be like, hey, they don't have to be choir boys. You know, like, so you see in that and that there's guys that are going to get, I mean, it's kind of like I never thought of Ryan Jensen as a bad person, okay? Right. Ryan Jensen on the field, that's a nasty player. And they went along in a little. Right. I mean, I'm a Kamsu. Again, great person, maybe not the nicest person on the football field. Right. So I think they've gone out of their way to change that, if you will. And I think they're better for it. I don't know if it's just because they completely slipped in the second half of last year, but I wouldn't say there was a desperation, but I would just say there was a real focus to address certain things that it would certainly seem they thought were lacking what they had. Yeah. I would agree with that. Let's get your overall view on the Buccaneers draft here. We'll put up the picks and just kind of get your take on what really stands out about this draft. We can have to go play or by player or just compose it as a whole. What are your thoughts on how to prepare? First and foremost, I really thought there would be a difference. The defensive tilt at the top of the draft. And there was. You see that in four of the top five. We've seen Jason and this front office not get too tied to positional needs in the first couple rounds. And I thought they were really fortunate that this draft shook out almost perfectly for their positional needs. I've said all spring edge and linebacker were just a two glaring needs. And after they add an Al Qudimahamed, even that they add an Anzaloni, I still felt like those were two positions where it's like they need the future and the present to be represented. You only get that with spending the big currency of hydraphics. So I really much like the box. I had no expectation of Ruben Bain being anywhere near number 15. It's kind of like it was almost the first thing I would look at. You see everybody in their brother put them off draft up every day. You track and you see where do the edges go. And it's like 256, 289. Rarely got past nine at all. And then on draft day, it was like I remember when it got to 10, I think I was like, wow, if Ruben Bain falls much farther, I think they're going to be tempted to move up. You know, to take a fourth or a fifth rounder and kind of like they do with Tristan Worfs. You have a chance to get the guy. And then honestly, I'm looking at the draft board. And I remember thinking Dallas, let Parsons get away. Hasn't necessarily filled that Dallas could definitely take an edge there. And you look Miami and Miami traded away Jalen Phillips last year. Left Bradley or cut Bradley job. Where now you have a Miami kid born in Miami, started Miami that can fill a major need for Miami. I'm like, he's probably and then Miami. He's going to sell some tickets, maybe to grab. Yeah, I don't want to just eat them. Again, people want nothing but USF stars and people want nothing but Gators and Jacksonville. And I don't think these teams always care that much. But it's an easy way. Like you'll see like, I mean, Miami fans between Bain and Scott, there's a ton of Miami fans that are like, I'm switching my allegiance from the dolphins to the bucks just because they took two came. I mean, just a light 12 drafts here had never drafted a single Miami hurricane. Yeah. That's true. And obviously Miami did pretty well this year. But again, that's a defense that, I mean, again, I felt like was one of the better defenses out there. And those were the two tone setters almost on that defense. So for me, I really thought it wasn't going to happen. Yeah. And then it's like Dallas takes kale down to you like, oh, that's really smart. Right. I really think man is going to take Bain here. And then they take it off into linemen. You're like, all right. Yeah. And I think we knew that the Rams were taking Ty Simpson before we even knew what the 12 pick was. Right. To where I'm like, wow, it's just Baltimore now. Yeah. And that's the only thing waiting. And again, you're still like Baltimore. That's still, you know, they've done a lot to get some, yeah, I mean, they added Hendrixson. They've done a lot. But still felt possible. So when they didn't, again, I was like Jason, it's like, they don't need 10 minutes on the clock. They don't need anything like clock. So on that alone, that set the draft as so much more than expected from that top pick. Yeah. For sure. The single most important thing I took going into the draft was that there was a shelf after the three edges after Bain and Bailey and Reese. I just thought it dropped off like a full round. So you'd see, I do a lot of these mocks where they want a guest reporter to pick for teams. And I'd pick the bucks of 15. And you'd say, well, if this is what the board looks like at 15, they'll probably take a keen mezzador. But if I, if this was a big trade down, you get mezzador or something. A lot of people. Because they want to tackles and want to receive it. There's going to be like six or seven of both in the first round. So all it takes is a team that likes one receiver more than the others. Yeah. And then you drop down to 18, drop down to 20 or something. You get a third round or a fourth round pick. And you probably still get mezzador. If I think the door went 22 in the world to the chargers. Right. So I just thought you could still get him there. And I feel like Jason for the most part is an efficient drafter. Like he knows if there's like, I mean, you think about Vita Vega. Vita Vega. Great pick. had him at seven, took that gamble to go down to 12 and still got it. So I think they'd do a good job of projecting the board and understanding what teams are likely to take and it's a calculated risk in time you step down. So I really thought that's what they would do. And again, like mezzanour, but if you watched Miami this year, it was a little bit like Al-Quddin Muhammad. And that you saw, wow, he's really productive, but he's productive as a function of because the other side, yeah, he wondered how he would do it out there and we'll see that. Maybe Muhammad has 12 sacks this year. Doesn't have that guy on the other side now. So you go in, I almost expect like if Muhammad has eight sacks this year, I would say that to win just because he doesn't have a world beater on the other side where you're not the focus of any opponents at any time. So anyway, to get back to it, again, thought they hit needs. I mean, we all, I think everybody that wrote mock drafts about the box got very fixated on Jacob Rodriguez and saw a match on a lot of different levels. Right. Made a lot of sense and it was kind of that neat thing where we talked about in the first round how Miami was right in front of the box and didn't take their guy and did him a favor. And then in the second round, I think there are two picks ahead of the box maybe in round two. They got smart and they took Jacob Rodriguez. And you can say, oh, the box, you know, if he knew it was close to Miami's there, they should have traded. They could have. Yes. I don't think they saw a world of difference between Rodriguez and Trotter or maybe even Rodriguez and Trotter and CJ Allen. So I think when you have that, you're content to see what falls to you. Yeah. And yeah, I think the one thing to it and you're not going to find it a bigger Jacob Rodriguez fan than yours truly. Like I love, I love the production in terms of the takeaways, right? Because football is such a game that's dictated by that turnover margin, right? Right. But in keeping with with the Buccaneer, so I've done this off season, just in terms of trying to get as many ass kickers as they can, I love J-Rod. He's a smart, savvy, high football like you player and he will punch you, but he'll punch the ball out. Jake, you know, Josiah Trotter is just a nasty player and I took the liberty of fixing the Bucks. I am that man, I'm saying, I'm, you know, I am that mean man. And you know, there's there's that there's that the the things they look for, the characteristics, the accountable, the competitive, confident, passionate, and resilient. And I put ass kicker at the bottom because that's my type of defense player. And so right off the bat, Greg, in number one and two, and you saw Ruben Bain just snatch that hat like I'm not going to stare at myself in the mirror. I just want to play football and kick somebody's ass, right? And I'm pissed that I fell to 15 because I'm not the 15th best player in this draft. I'm much higher. But for that one, two punch from an attitude standpoint, I think that Josiah Trotter is a real fit there because he is a downhill, seeking to destroy punish you type of stack and shed linebacker that this team really needs. Yeah, it was cool. I talked to again, Derek Nicholson, linebacker's coach was his linebacker's coach at Missouri. And it's cool because Derek was at Miami before that. So worked as a Codesee with Bain and was actually at Louisville when Yahya Diabia was there. He worked with three of their front seven guys. And it was cool. Derek was saying, I think he's like watching the draft, has it on the background. You know, and his wife tells him how you know Trotter went to the box and he said he told his wife, like, no one is going to run on this team this year. Right. And that, you know, he worked with both of them. I think he likes both of them, obviously. So no, with Trotter, again, I think at first when we saw this, you had like this fear that he's the guy that the most people in the room have known the longest, you know, that might call the world played with his dad. Jason Light want a Super Bowl with his dad. Trotter played here in Tampa. So you have all these ties and you worry that you get blinded by familiarity and you want to assume that he has inherited his dad's persona and his skills and his talents. He kind of has to this point. That's the most thing. And I mean, his brother, Jeremiah, again, another guy I thought for the same reason the buck might take two years ago. Has it set a world on fire? But is there in Philadelphia? It could be a very good player as well. Yeah. To talk to people that have known Trier that have played with Trotter, there's definitely an excitement about physicality, ridiculous strength. I mean, I think the best bench press numbers of anybody in the draft. Great against the run. There was a concern. I think Brugler's top line in his weaknesses was about past coverage. So that's yeah, we're right away. Your cynics are going to say, oh, it's KJ Brinn all over again. Oh, it's all these other running backs. The bucks have had that have struggled. In the middle of the field has been such a void for them, right? Covering tight ends of receivers across the middle. And to talk to the people that have coached him, they've really worked hard to try and kind of shoot down that narrative a little bit. Like Nicholson was saying that they a lot of their defense in the first month of this past season, guy's struggle in past coverage. Because it's an entirely new defense they brought in. Right. And Trotter was it was for Virginia, a hundred before. So it's it's a new team, new scheme, new teammates around him. Right. And from what I was told, maybe you were told the same thing. You got better as the season went on. Right. He said, if you look, he said, if you see a bad play of him in past coverage from after week four, like let him know. Yeah. Because they're definitely placed where he lost. Let's guys behind him in the first three, almost I think fourth game to season South Carolina for them. He said, if from that point on, like it clicked, he understood the defense and he said he was their best internal piece in terms of past coverage. So many they could count on for the opposite to be good at it and not a liability. So again, we'll see how it works out. I think he's better against the run than he is against the past. And he compliments Alex and Saloni that way. Yeah. Um, we'll see. But he feels like somebody they're going to be comfortable plugging in. Right. Day one. And having him be a tone set in the middle of that defense. Yeah. I mean, that's a boost. Uh, so I was going to say the box certainly have a penchant for drafting players in the second round whose dad's also played in the NFL. You go back to Winfield in 2020. Ben Trim Morrison, second round last season. And then Trotter, this most recent draft. But I think why there's been such public appeal for what Jason Light and Tampa Bay has done, at least with the earlier rounds is we knew going in edge was a need for this team and inside linebacker was a need for this team. And they addressed that right away. Like I'm never going to fault Jason and company for going with best player available. Right. But like you saw that last year with the mecca Buka, people were like very surprised and ended up being so important. I think Elijah can't see not everyone had him on their radar. So the way that there was no messing around this year is best available. Oh, Ruben Bay. Yes, perfect. Is that a Trotter? Yes, perfect. Second round. So I think that kind of has played into why they're getting such good grades because they address their immediate need almost instantly in the first round. Well, they're credit. Like obviously that lined up really well. But I think third round they were willing I wouldn't have said receiver was their next biggest need. Right. And this is them jump on the floor of their board. Right. And then like him, it makes sense. It's one of those where if a Buka was a year early, okay, if you're kind of anticipating somebody not being there, her first is doing that. Her first is a good response to you don't have the size that Mike Evans gave you. Have a ridiculously talented and deep receiver room. You don't have a big guy in there. You don't have necessarily an X. And I get that that's not as positionally unique and important in this offense. But it's still for me, it felt like a good merging of hey, you know, we can still kind of go against our positionally to just take somebody we love. Well, you know what Greg, when you go back to that Saints game, the one here in the rain and Tampa, right? Not only did a mecca Buka drop by very important touchdown in that game, right? But if you recall, they were down there in the lower red zone, probably somewhere in the neighborhood of five to zero yards, you know, maybe three yards, whatever. And they tried that isolation fade shot on Kool-Aid McKinsey twice. The first time it was a little curious because he had five foot ten sterling shepherd trying to do that. It was almost intercepted, right? So then literally on the next play, they're like, all right, well, let's try the six foot one receiver, a mecca Buka on Kool-Aid McKinsey. And he easily batted that down. So that was like 0 for 2 right there. Whereas, yeah, if that's Mike Evans, probably a touchdown, right? And I think that's where Hurst can really make a huge impact. If all this guy does is help you in the lower red. And his Matt pointed out the other day and I think it's spot on commentary. If he gets 25 catches for 350 yards as a rookie, but scores five or six touchdowns, like that's a huge win. Look at what test Johnson was able to do. Right. Filling in as an emergency receiver when he should have been four or five on the depth chart. Yeah. And like Georgia State, I totally get that what he's done in college is mostly against teams you barely recognize that honestly beat Georgia State. He's been in at not successful. I think I think you went four and 20 in two years at Georgia State. But if you look at one game in 24 his first month of Georgia State, they beat Vanderbilt. Okay. Not the world beaters of the SEC. I get that. But they beat them on a touchdown throw with 15 seconds left to Ted Hurst. Yeah. It's very much like you said, it's a game on the line. One man ISOed down the left sideline makes a catch at the pile on to beat him. And that's like you said, that's what they need. They need somebody that can command a presence in the red zone. It's got to say that Godwin that Emma that McVillain can't do that. He's just a little bit bigger and if you want to try that jump off fade I think that's something he'll do well in this level. Yeah. Yeah, okay, man. I've said Greg What do you make of this bucks wide receiver room with Godwin a book a hopefully a healthy Jalen McMillan for the entire season? Ted's now Ted Hurst. I mean, I'm not gonna ask you if it's like the best receiver room in the league But I would have to imagine it's one of the deepest receiver room when you look around the NFL It is like today. I did something that's not up yet But I did something on like the the top 10 rookies this year for fantasy football, okay? And you kind of put out we got a NFL staff and editors and you're putting out Yeah, like hey who should be on this list? And I got multiple people telling me that Ted Hurst should be on this list And I my response is like there are a lot of mouths to feed in Tampa Like yeah, I like him don't get me wrong, but he's got a $20 million receiver in a first round pick And then McMillan that are all fighting with him. Yeah to where again He could be really good and be third or fourth on this team in touch now like you said five or six touchdowns would be a remarkably successful Yeah, rookie year for a third round pick more than Godwin's I mean Godwin got his first one on the last play of his rookie year And he's a pretty good receiver. Yeah McMillan got lucky and had that that final six games where I think he'd led the NFL in touchdowns But so I don't need I don't need Ted Hurst to lead all rookies in touchdowns or something But I think there's there's definitely a buzz about him and if you if you listen to the You know trying to think who Greg go sell I think there were a couple different people that I think Dan Boogler said I mean one of his more Favorite picks in the entire draft is just signing Ted Hurst in the third round And this was a draft where if you saw the numbers like there was this crazy consolidation where all the picks Are power five conferences? There wasn't a single guy outside the power five in the first round And I think the SEC had like 87 draft picks where there's just within IL It's like all the talent is just getting into this really We you worried that they need like a third as many scouts as they used to Because there's just not that much talent in other places But again, he's a guy that spent two years in Dal Dosta state And then spent two years Trade it up, which is good. Yeah, great up to Georgia state Where again, you're playing a lot of schools of people don't know and you're not on people's radar And probably a year ago could have done it again and gone to an SEC school or an ACC school And had the name recognition that comes with that and didn't and wanted to stay at Georgia state Uh, and I think the buck sometimes like that It's strange that you can say loyalty and somebody who only transferred once in college nowadays What it is yeah, uh, you mentioned Greg to a cell Drafted room by the way, there's a couple that are four school guys. Oh A bunch of three school carousel just really where we go I don't know like what these people is 40 year-olds are gonna be like when two of their schools are playing each other And you don't know who to root for I'm curious for like for Sunday night football when they're like hey I'm so and so I played at Alabama where people are gonna start naming like six different schools like Dylan hers Greg almond Can't name them all because I think they probably make you choose one team. Yeah, that little uh I love that by the way in terms of the Creativity where guys will be fall university or they'll are not elementary school Those shout out their high school or elementary school. I think I would like that especially if I had Like three prime time games a year where I get a little bit of a shooting thing to be able to say where you went to school and help people out Yeah, but it's also cool to be doing it enough where you can just make stuff up and have fun and shout out your Peewee league right You mentioned Greg who so we had him on the program yesterday and so for buck spans if you you miss yesterday show You can check that out on peter report tb your youtube channel It is archived up there as this show will be as well And then on Tuesday we had Trevor sycoma giving his bucks draft analysis as well And Greg I want to pose the question to you that we had Trevor answer because I want to get your input on this too Right there were some people that that were in favor and I you know I I probably would have been in this mix originally But with jigger broadreagus being just three picks away. It's tempting to go up and get him right But the problem is depending on how far you're going to go up ahead of Miami assuming you have that crystal ball right Um to know where to go In terms of being You know ahead of of the the picks enough to get jigger broadreagus But you're going to sacrifice your third or fourth round pick right and after your broadreagus was selected in the second round and and then Trotter was the pick for Tampa Bay Lot of bucket near fans on our live Three-day draft show where obviously very frustrated and upset about that And I just kind of said well here's the thing we have to kind of wait to see Who this team selects in the third round or the fourth round right because it might have been a fourth to go up a few spots Or might have been a third to go up way high into the the second round We have to see who this team selects in the third and fourth round Before we can really lament the fact that Jason Light didn't do it And and Trevor said you know what looking at it now and he was a big jigger broadreagus proponent as well He said you give me Ruben Bain, Jeremiah Trotter, Ted Hurst and Kiante Scott who they got in the fourth round And like that that's a haul. I don't know that I would sacrifice either Hurst or Scott For Rodriguez over Trotter Are you of the same opinion? No, absolutely And again, I think people sometimes think of oh you trade up. It's just a fourth round pick And it's one of those where in your mind You think of it for just what it is and not what it could be yeah, right? And I think the bucks to their credit I think Jason I mean his picks are almost like his own children in terms of not wanting Give them off under any work from that like I mean he's not true Again, he gave up a pick to get drunk. He gave up a pick to get Tristan worse Moved up to get you know alley Marpat and Cody Malk and there's definitely time for him Like somebody enough to do that But I just think he's he's definitely protective and it takes a lot to make the guy move up so Roberto Aguayo You think about the fourth I don't think they thought that fourth round pick would be Kiante Scott again I think probably as surprised to have four Scott there on the fourth as they were to have Bain at 15 because steals him on the left Greg Yeah, and I I remember looking and it's like five picks out now I was trying to figure out what they might do And again, I was my instant confersus that I thought they would go outside and that Again, like this is this is probably four rookies in four years as the primary nickel in this defense to go from Isian to Taiki Smith to to Jacob Parrish and now to Tiki on Tais Scott. Yeah But I think it's because they've been trying to get it to work and it's one of those where you keep putting I mean Parrish is the third round pick so they've put some assets into it, but I think When I think about what they want the nickel to be As an attack piece as a weapon as a versatile hard to understand um What is coming player that's what Kiante Scott is yeah, um, I got to talk to the defensive coordinator Uh at Miami and he was saying that there's there's like at least four different roles that they felt like I mean Kiante was in outside corner when he as previous schools he's done that before but just in what they asked him to do They felt like as a blitzing slot as a guy that can cover guys in the middle in man or in zone They had so many different looks and he said if they didn't have a countess got they would have to sub a player in and out to signal what's coming defensively But because they had him they didn't so with the same person on the field you can switch from one defensive look to another and he's the main Difference in that in that package because they're comfortable doing everything I think it's 13 tackles for loss This is a different number like I looked up like again I think about rendez being as active a defensive back might be in the other teams backfield Okay, running ever had more than 10 tackles for loss in the season. Yeah crazy amount for his career But the most he had in his career is 10 Yeah, again, he's doing some of this again Syracuse and Wake Forest and ACC team stuff on that but School 13 tackles for loss. So you you've weaponized that position now And I think you do it without the expense of if you want him to drop If you want him to cover a third receiver or a tight end he can do that Yeah, and now it's kind of like now if paris doesn't have to be your nickel you could probably have parish competing With Morrison for an outside corner spot. Yeah, I don't the size you want out there But I think it it gives you some we've they still might very well bring in a proven eight-year vet or something to give them the the Bryce Hall type that If somebody gets hurt we don't want to have to go to a A special teams guy on defense. Right. I had to keep position It's in there before with players like Tyree thunderburg and hasn't worked out well, you know So I just felt like again, I didn't think of nickel as a need But I felt like they did a good job of finding somebody that again could be a really good You just think about perfect for this defense type player That's what I think he on taste got does Looking at these the last three picks you're just to kind of go from because they're kind of depth pieces initially We'll see what they become But just really quick any thoughts on k-parts shroud or sharp and how they fit now all three I mean again that fifth six I mean that was the time there with with Jason Lattie If you look at the first half of his years here in Tampa Almost no impact from the fifth round or later. It's a lot of Kenny Bells and stuff like that. We're great There's fifth rounders that basically got caught and never played so to have it now Yes exactly so Again, I think k-part Jumped in right away you add him to the mix now you've got If you pencil him in it's kind of the fifth D lineman. Yeah, okay now you have like nacho and Elijah Simmons And Jason Jones all battling for like the sixth spot on your right now. There's there's an overflow of depth We're probably one of those guys will make the practice as well for depth beyond the 53. I think Shroud is a good upside. He's a lot like Trotter to me and that I think he has two years as a starter. He has like 22 college starts. He has had some injuries, but none so severe that you're like, gosh, I don't know if he can come back from that. And was a captain at Notre Dame and was a leader at Notre Dame. It's kind of like they've had a whole cycle since Haines he left in terms of new head coach, new line coach. Yeah, but he kind of presents that same kind of toughness leadership. I don't know that they need him to be anything huge this year. I think if you just prepare him normally, treat this like a red shirt year, he might not dress on Sundays. Or if you would, he'd be the kind of your emergency guard or somebody went to play him on extra points or something. So what I do think is that they've got a little bit of a tough call a year from now in that Cody Milk is going to be done with his rookie salary, right? Brett is going to get to the point where he has no guaranteed money left. Yeah, you're not going to pay mal. It'll be either or for one of those guys. Yeah, pay mal. What he's getting on the open market in pay, Brett is an eight point. Right. You just you can't devote that much. Well, it's going to be you're going to have to have probably for Brett is an assuming milk is healthy and has a kick ass year. You have to have a guy on a rookie contract starting a left garden. Right. Because then Barton was going to be descending a year later. So you definitely had you got to reset that clock. And as much as they hit on offensive lineman, if you don't keep doing that, you just also need got like a $80 million offensive line. And you can't do that. So it wouldn't be. Oh, sorry. No, good. Anyway, so I just felt like this is a good way without really putting a high pick into it. He feels a little bit more proven. Like Elijah Klein is kind of on the bubble or maybe on the outside of the 53 now. And had two years to kind of show himself. And I feel like he's a more physical, maybe a better upside than what he librarians right now. Yeah. It would be a Jason light draft. If he didn't bring in an offensive lineman. But Greg, let me ask you, how much did the injuries on the offensive line kind of impact the overall struggles of the offense? That the offense was bad last season, but certainly didn't compare to 2024. Because he had the tackles out for a little bit. And then of course, everything that happened on the interior as well. I think it's huge. I mean, I look at this, this team last year. And I think in like the day to day grind of it, you don't appreciate how bad things got. All right. I always think about Apollo 13. And there's that scene where they don't realize how damaged it is until they're outside the vehicle. And they realize like, holy shit, how do we survive that? That's when you see it. You step back and it's like, wow, we had both tackles missed this number game. And again, we're just into two practice squad guards. Right. Well, and to the credit, like I always feel like there's this game of hide the depth concerns. Okay. And they you can't have depth and place at every position. Right. So last year, okay, they lose Robert Hansy to Jacksonville. You can't compete with the money and the starting opportunity he has there. Right. So they lose Hansy and they really did nothing to replace it. Okay. It's right. Michael Jordan is the guy you bring in the week that camp starts. Yeah. And you know, Dan Feney's coming off the bill's practice squad. Right. Okay. But they're outside the NFL and you do that thinking they're your seventh or eighth line. Right. Not your first death. Okay. And you do that thinking, oh, if it's an injury, it's an injury for like three weeks. And that's those two combined for like 16 starts, just a ridiculous amount. Yeah. And it probably was, I think it was right after the trade deadline that they kind of realized they were going to be. If those injuries, if you know those are both long term injuries, they might have done something before the show. I mean, they started six different guards last year. You have the Elijah line also started a game in Luke Haggard. Yeah. Haggard is a guy you forget he started like three games. Yeah. And it's like he's probably not on the 53 this year, right? Right. So again, you have three different guards. I would say Fini probably makes this team right now, but that are barely on the roster that you're counting on every day. So now instead of Barton as a young developing center having two proven 30, 50 start guys next to him, he's now having to carry those two people from the inside of the on. And then tackle and you think about tackle. And again, you know, Justin school left because they knew they had an injury in Minnesota and they can promise him, hey, you're going to start for the first month of the season. And I didn't know that they actually could have promised him the same thing because they didn't realize where it was hurt and March. So again, just to drop off from not that Justin school made a ton of money, just to drop off from school to Charlie Heck is a ding there. And they're almost fortunate to have Ben Shakuma kind of be somebody that can step in by the end of the year. So yeah, all that I think when you think about why it was a top five offense in 24 and why wasn't even a top half offense. Maybe a top 20 offense in 25. The first thing I think you have to say in all honesty is just that the offensive line was never, never at full strength and never had any semblance of continuity that you need to own the line of scrimmage have a dominant run game. And they're able to throw and let and let plays develop with confidence they just didn't have that. And again, it might be the single difference this year single biggest difference this year is if they can get back to that health and continuity of having the same five out there for an entire season. Great before we take a look at the NFC South and the other teams will do that next, but we have a couple super chats for you. Let's get to a couple of questions from some fans here. Matt, yes, T level has been trying to hype up this trade scenario for a while. So glad to get your thoughts about it too, Greg thanks T level for the $20 super chat says question for Greg almond plausible hypothetical to trade Sean Tucker and sign Nick Chubb for a three million, three million deal to diversify the running back room with the 227 pound North to South running back. He received a slash blocker who averaged 4.1 yards per attempt behind Woody and a Chubb Baker reunion also so Greg your thoughts about that. I think with Chubb there's just an injury can turn down anything else and I think the reason that's up. He's out there right now is just just people not knowing if he can sustain himself and stay healthy for a full season. Tucker, I don't know the Tucker I think a year ago Tucker had trade value maybe I was thinking three million dollars so even if somebody thought he was a two and it's possible their teams out there thought he was a two I mean he's a guy that I didn't think would get tender honestly I thought to I thought the bucks to try and you know league minimum is like 1.3 million now so I thought maybe you give him a half a million guaranteed and you sign it was like $2 million say we'll give you a little bit of a raise. You might say they've done that before that that's what I expected so I was impressed to see them prioritize the run game and give can be well $7 million a year give Tucker is the three three million dollars so I mean Sean Tucker is making more in Tampa than Rashad white is making in Washington right right and that's a tell you something and that again they both had the chance to go whatever they wanted basically so I do think there's an appreciation now for using all three and having all three. Insulating yourself against an injury in the back field something they probably should have a better job of handling in season this past year but I do think if you're at this team right now you have the offensive line healthy you've kind of weathered losing Mike Evans and still have a really talented and diverse group of receivers any of three running backs you like a lot this if they're healthy this should be a lot closer to the 24 offense this should be a 25 26 point of game offense. I don't know if it includes Nick job so. And then T level with another super chat this one $2 thank you very much as a general question for Greg predicted bucks pro bowlers this season well I mean it's a it's a tricky one because like this past year they did well just to have worse and winfield I know yeah I can remember thinking and kind of talking about those a world where like chase like an opulent look like a pro bowler in about mid November and then start. Missing so kicks another guys are hitting just like the orders and that kind of ended that so no I mean you have to start with worse and that's an expect or he was a pro baller in a down year in 2025 and I think him being healthy him having a healthy line around him those are all things that will help him. He's a guy where he's healthy and playing right should be an all pro in addition to me a pro bowler every year the way he goes has that reputation built in where you get default votes like you got last year even when you're not at your best. Who it is after that will be interesting to see in that I don't know that there's an offensive player I kind of worried that the receivers are going to hit each other and that I don't think I don't think either god when or a book of the two that kind of have the name recognition where they could be pro bowlers I don't think there's a 10 touchdown receiver on this team yeah there's there's probably eight eight six or something like that yeah. And that's always for me the easiest currency when I'm looking to should you be a pro bowl receivers how many touchdowns yeah because there's always somebody who has 120 catches and four touchdowns or something like that but for the most part I'm going with the best touchdown receivers in the league so I don't think they are I would be surprised if Bucky or gain well got to the point where they're in the pro bowl conversation that's a huge win yeah offensively it's intriguing and that you don't know who somebody if somebody of this group it I think it's fun to handicap gosh who leads the bucks and sack. In 26 because now I mean would probably be your odds on favorite from people. just guessing right now that could be Diabbi that could be Canci that could be Muhammad. You know, there's about five different guys that should have five or more sacks on this defense. Interestingly enough, in the book Super Bowl year in 2020, only one pro bowler. Right. Jason Beer Paul. Like windshield, I thought windshield did really well. Yeah. You had a pro bowl this past year in a year. Yeah. Didn't have the splash plays. There was another year or whatever was 23 or 24. He got absolutely robbed. Yeah. I think it was a makeup. It was a makeup for the all pro year where you didn't make the pro bowl. So they said, all right, we'll throw you a we'll throw you a bone on this one. Right. It's like a makeup foul. But yeah. But a year later. And again, I think I think voters read. I'm a voter. Yeah. And for all pro, I read this nub stories in that like you read the oversight. You want to know who the public thinks, you know, and sometimes when you're making an out pro ballot, it's after pro bowl comes out. Yeah. And looking at the you look closer at the guys that got screwed over by the pro bowl. And you said, well, that guy actually, and there's been years where I think Lomonte was like a second team all pro in a year where you didn't make the pro. That's right. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if there's a pro bowl in the secondary. Winfield has the reputation. None of those corners have reputation right now. And it's hard to break in. To break in as a pro bowl, you haven't been there. You need like six picks. Yeah. Six picks. Six is. You got to really have some splash plays to get the name recognition you need to get that honor. Yeah. Yeah. I really appreciate it. Your article with the full transparency about what you voted for and what you voted on. I think that's fantastic. And I hope other people try to do the same. But kudos to you on that. Let's kind of move over to the rest of the NFC South. I got the super chat from Stephen O. Keith. Thank you for the $1.99. Super chat says I'm looking forward to the Bane Freeling rivalry. Of course, talking about Monroe Freely, the first round picked by the Carolina Panthers. Lee Hunter in the second round, defense attack, Chris Brazill in the third round, the wide receiver from Tennessee. So Greg tells a little bit about your thoughts about what the Panthers did this year in the 2026 draft. You like this draft Greg? Is this a good draft for Carolina? Yes. I think it's a great draft. I think it's a good draft. They're tricky at tackle because obviously, it's one who's hurt significantly hurt. And they kind of plugged in. I thought they did really well to get the, I'm blanking on the Packers tackles name that they got. It's Rashid Walker. I'm sorry. Got Rashid Walker for like $4 million, which was just a ridiculous value. Some people thought he was like $15 million a year. That's just a one year fix though. So I think this was smart in that it, they put some high picks on their offensive line. But definitely shows that up so much of what they did in free agency was on their defense and writing really big checks to get Jalen Phillips and get Devin Lloyd. So I like that there was some offense near the top of this draft. There's a lot of talk about Carolina taking a receiver for the third year in a row in the background. And I wasn't a big fan of that. Happier that they used on the line. Are you surprised? They didn't go Kenyans at the first round? A little bit. Yes. Absolutely. That was definitely one of those where I think JT Sanders is a guy that's still kind of hanging on to. Hope and he's the guy they drafted. He's not. Yeah. I think there's some people that think they could get in on Enjoku just because there's kind of a void at tight end for them. Tommy Trembl again, Tommy Trembl had a big catch against the box. He always does. His numbers overall. Yeah. He's doing it. Yeah. Neither of those guys are an NFL tight end one. So that still feels like a hole and maybe that's something they can address in free agency. Defensively again, Hunter's a smart get for them. I thought I think there's another team of division that put a second round pick. Yeah. And I thought that was smart on both cases in terms of their defense. I thought their defense still had a way to go and it's good. You have to compliment the big checks you wrote in free agency was in high graphics. So Hunter's probably the only guy that's an immediate impact type from this draft. But for the other guy, I think people thought might be higher than third. And again, they've put some high picks. That's all their receivers now are young guys in LaGette, in Coker, in McMillan. So it's a good group that should kind of you got about another year or two before those guys start hitting free agency and get expensive. But now I like it. I think most people kind of thought it was the middle of the pack draft. I think Brewer had them 13th overall in terms of ranking his draft classes. You know, didn't have any high. I mean, as a division winner, you're picking a little bit later every round. It's certainly more than higher than they're used to draft drafting in the last couple of years. So would you say the the bucks had a better draft or a worse draft than Carolina? I would say better. I would say better. Yeah. In terms of impact. Again, like it's hard to, I think sometimes a rookie tackle is hard to appreciate because there's learning in the job and good tackles that struggle is rookies. Yeah. It's kind of like a defense where like Bain, he can struggle. As long as he gets like eight sacks, it's going to seem like a monster year where in freelling has to kind of play above his expectation to kind of thing. It's like if he has three games in a row, we're going to give up a sack. If he gets, you know, leave somebody unblocked in the fourth game, that's kind of what gets the headline. So it's a little bit unfair. But I do think they kind of drafted for their needs as well. You know, Greg, we have a saying around here, the Falcons are going to falcon, which means they choke. Okay. So that's what we say, Falcons are going to falcon. I think they falcon this draft too. I was not impressed by this draft. I wasn't impressed by what they didn't free agency. I wasn't impressed that they heard him defense the fansky to be honest. Like I really don't see the logic in that. They're hanging their hat on two good years in Cleveland, but what about all the other years? And you know, I don't mind, I don't mind Stefansky. I think he can be good there. I think they'll be better in offense because he's there. I don't, I didn't necessarily understand their offseason. Like, to let, to let and Kaden Ellis go back to, I know, Lawrence and to not really replace him. I really thought, I thought they would, I thought they were in the exact same market for a linebacker that the bucks were. I think they were picking it 48 instead of 46. And it could be that that the bucks, you know, that that maybe they didn't like C.J. Allen, who they could have taken. Maybe on Tarell, I like. It's nice to have him there with his brother. I don't think most people thought he would be there. 48. Oh, again, now like around three, three, again, Zachariah Branch goes right around the same time as Ted Hurst. And it's kind of like instead of taking a six four guy with speed, they took a five eight guy with speed. Yeah. It's not as they branch can't be a helper in returns. There's not a lot of guys that are five eight one seventy seven and playing like number two receivers in the NFL. So I felt like Atlanta had so little at receiver. Behind Drake London. And they didn't even double up. I mean, yeah, they had guys like, again, David Sills, okay, and made plays to beat the bucks. But over the course of the season, I don't think there was a team that had less at receiver from two down than the Falcons did. And they went and got they signed two guys and three agency towards not nothing they didn't address the position. I just think they've got a lot of number three receivers on their roster. Yeah. That's a good point. It feels like the biggest move the Falcons made this off season was signed to and he's a backup quarterback for them. Right. I mean, to it to me, we don't know how bad Pennix's injury is. So I think to put him in there in the motivation of a contract year, yeah, and you can't beat getting a starting quarterback for a million three. Yeah. And he's coming off a $50 million contract. You don't get bargains like that. So I think they did well with that. I don't know what they should be rooting for in that if right to a dead really well for 25 questions for you. Are you going to pay him? Right. Right. Because again, there's that same concern of concussions. There's still the same reasons that my two fragile quarterbacks. They're both left handed. You know, he says, I don't know. Right. I just think what we were doing quarterbacks most likely to draft quarterbacks teams, most likely to draft quarterbacks in 27. Yes, I read that. Yeah. Kind of have to put Atlanta on that lid in that in that again, there's a world where Pennix comes back and is healthy and is the guy they thought he would be. But this is the second year in a row where they've got an interest in the other guy as well. Yeah. To where I just I don't know if you're Atlanta, I don't know what you're rooting for in that. But also to like how is the locker room going to absorb that right because you have two starting caliber quarterbacks, right? And receivers and tight ends like the guy that gets them to ball and practice, right? And so I just I feel like like with Kevin Stephane, he kind of being like a mild mannered guy too. He's not like a he's not like a John Gruden or a Dan Campbell type where he's like, listen to me. I'm the leader here and you're going to follow what I have to say. You know, everyone's like, yes, sir, and they kind of like get all on board. I think you could have like a fractured locker room in Atlanta. I'd be surprised if that happens again. Like I thought one of Atlanta's strengths was offensive line. Okay. And then you see Caleb McGarry retire. Right. It's unexpected to us. They might have known that since the end of the season, they kind of scramble and do well to get you on Taylor, but you want Taylor is, it's not Caleb McGarry. He's a fall start waiting to happen and he's a penalty machine. So Jake Matthews is getting up there. I think he's held up for his age very well, but you have to think of him as a guy in his last season or near his last season. So yeah. So for Atlanta, I mean, I went in with low expectations that to for them to use that first round pick on Pierce. It looks like they've kind of dodged a bullet with Pierce in that he's gotten out of the charges for the most part. So there'll probably be a suspension there, but maybe only a three or four days. Isn't that crazy? Is that some rich athlete privilege for what? A little bit. I just think it, I don't know the specifics of why it fell apart, but it feels like something where the woman didn't want to press charges maybe, and without her cooperation, it's hard to have all those charges stick. So it's weird to go from whatever it was, five sticks felonies to six months probation. But that's kind of what happens if somebody doesn't want to press charges, which feels like what might happen here. He's a guy that, again, performed well. He was good enough as a past rusher where you kind of understood why you'd give up the number of 13 picks and extras draft just to move up to get him. They need him to be that guy again, and obviously they won't have him for a full season. But by most people that look at the draft and assess grades, it was kind of the bottom five draft. Yeah. Greg, you interact with a lot of Bucks fans on X on the regular, and you're on a show here that is all about Bucky near fans. Sure. And so you know what I'm going to say next, which is Bucks fans hate the Saints. But look out here come the Saints. Just when we thought they were dead and buried with their salary cap, woes and the old roster, they put together a couple really good drafts. And now killing more entire shuck. We've got Jordan Tyson who yikes. That's a really good receiver if he can stay healthy. I mean, like a really good receiver. And you know, we saw what Ted Rowell McMillan could do for Dave Canales and the Panthers last year as a rookie, winning NFL offensive rookie of the year honors. This is a really good pick right here. Yeah. And again, like New Orleans, a lot like Atlanta, once they traded away, Rashid Shaheed did not have anything at receiver besides Chris Alave. If you stop Chris Alave, I guess you win. Yes, it will be true, but they've done a good job. This off season. This is a good draft. Good draft and a good for agency too. If you have an offensive coach and you're trying to maximize a limited window with Tyler Shuck, this was the right off season for them. They go out and they get Travis Hane. They go out and get the Edwards guard. Again, three of those top five picks are pass catchers. So it's not Jordan Tyson. It's Oscar Delp. I don't know that Bryce Lance is going to be a different maker for them, but I just think they've put a lot of assets into that offense where they should be better. Deferri and Brown kick returner. Right. Yeah. And this is the three receivers in six rounds. Yeah, I think they like their quarterback, right? Yeah. And honestly, it's one of those where again, like Tyler Shuck, it's still a really small body work. It's still nine games. Yeah. It's, you know, they had drafted quarterbacks three years in a row. And I think, you know, for them to go five and four and finish the season as well as they did with him actively involved in why they're winning. I think they're smart to that's it. He's the guy he's the guy we're going to try and win with. I don't know if that takes or not, you know, it's one of those where he could be that over a full season. I forget his numbers in nine games. It's like 10 touchdowns and seven picks. It's not amazing numbers, but it's close wins that they pulled out at the end, which is what you need if you're New Orleans. Again, I think every team in this division, first to fourth, there's not a whole lot of separation. I think this probably is the close division. Yeah. One to four in the NFL. I don't think any team in the league can have reasonable expectations of more than 10 wins. Yeah. And I don't know that any of them really should be worse than about six seven wins. So you could make a case. The ball bounces the right way. A team gets hot and healthy. And any of those four teams can legitimately win. Right. Step to the Falcons because they're going to falcon. They seem to really like eight nine. That seems to really be like their six seven. But I think they're the only team in the NFL, the only division in the NFL where if you look in August and everyone's making their predictions, all four teams will have somebody picked them to win the division. Yeah, that's true. Which is hard. I mean, there's not you go. And obviously, West, you got three really good ones. Also Arizona. Yeah, Arizona. And if he's, I don't think many people are going to pick the Giants to be that much better, you know. So I just think top to bottom, again, not a great division overall, but definitely a competitive division. And one where these division games where again, I think the bucks were in a position where they were expecting to go for it. It's going to be harder to do that this year. I think they still can. Yeah. I think if you look at the odds makers, the public perception is still that they're the team to beat in this division. But it's like you see now, wherein last year, the bottom three were like 25, 28, 30. Now you see pretty much everybody between about 15 and 25, I think in terms of power rankings. Which should mean by that that anybody, you know, you steal a road division win, you shouldn't get, you take care of business with an easier schedule or something. Or if there's a sweep in there somewhere, you know, right? Yeah. All right. So speaking of rankings, we have another super chatter from T-Lubble, who's a huge Greg Almond fan, NFC South letter grades. So good and rank these drafts from from one to four and then give us the letter grades for each of the NFC South. Yeah. I'm not a huge fan of letter grades right after the draft, just because I think it's kind of, you're just grading against expectation. Well, then maybe just rank them in order. Yes. I think it's easy to say the Falcons had the worst draft of the four. There's just not a great, there's not a single player on there where I'm like, wow, they're going to be better because that guy's on their team. A starter or two? Yes. But not an impact player. I think I feel like the bucks have the best of the drafts right now. I think I would put the Saints next. Yeah. I think Tyson as a headliner, Tyson could be an eight touchdown lookie. I think it's definitely, again, lines up for them with an absolute need the same way Bamed it for the bucks. Yeah. I think they've gotten much better on their defense. Their line is a little harder to appreciate that way. They might not even necessarily need freeing to be a weak one starter. So much as a guy they're grooming for down the road. It might be that he and a healthy ighi equanu are the starters next year or something like that. I think Taylor Mote, you know, you fit him in there too, but they're better for their draft and they'll find, you know, I think a year ago, there were guys that they got impacts from and later rounds that will help. But I don't see that many franchise changing players. I think when you look at the bucks draft, I mean, I think it's, you see two starters immediately in Bain and in Trotter. Okay. And that's easy to say. And then, you know, I think her still be a guy that helps, but doesn't have to play more than about 400 snaps if things go right. I think Scott can be a game changer for them. I think the nickel is a starter in this defense. And I think he'll make plays in a way that will he'll stay on the field. I guess is what I would say. So I don't know that K part is more than a, you know, on Elijah Roberts from this year, that kind of impact. Their defensive line would better as a whole so they don't need him to play a ton. But now, so I would say, if I were, again, if I were doing, again, I would say bucks, saints, panthers, Falcons. Yeah. And there's probably the biggest distance is probably between the top three and the Falcons there. It's going to follow. That's just the day. Falcons only, I think Falcons had three picks in the top 200. Yeah. It wasn't a draft that was set up and it's not like they even traded back up to, right, grab something. Something good and try. I really felt like they tried. It's a first time GM. There's a new power structure there where maybe your hesitant to really make a big splash. You know, last year, they're probably guilty of making a big splash and that they are sure paid. I think everybody's protective of their 27 picks right now. Yeah. Teams aren't sure if they need a quarterback. So the last thing I'm going to do is give up next year's one and then find out you need a quarterback and you gave away the 12 pick and next year's draft or something like that. You could just pick more or less on a number of different player stats as you will see on the screen in just a moment. Well, bam, there we go. They have all the top sports you could want. They've got soccer and tennis as well. You're picking more or less on a couple of different stats, whether it's OGN and OB's rebounds or car on the Anthony Towns and those points. There's a pick there for everybody, but with my line up specifically, and again, you're just picking more or less on a couple of different stats. Need at least two players, two different teams in the NHL. Jake Otonger, more than 25 and a half saves. There's been an awesome series between the stars and the wild stars need to win tonight to keep that series going. And in that same game, Quinn Hughes, the defenseman for the wild more than 27, pretty much 28 minutes. He plays the most ice time for them. He's their best player. They want to close it out tonight. He's going to play a ton. And then the WNBA starts tonight, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana fever taken on Dallas. She's the face of the league, every game is on prime time. Jason played in a while. They kind of cancel out the Mike Evans signing. So they're not going to get any compensatory picks at least that's what I've seen recently. And I'm anticipating that I've not heard anything from one buck in your place to suggest otherwise. So I think the answer is probably no. Buckingers typically don't get. They have it. Yeah. Some teams like rack them up like it's nothing. I know. Not the case with the box, but they do draft very well. Yeah. It makes up for it. And at T level, thanks for this $5 super chat. We want to allow enough enough time for people to come out of from from out of state down here as well. So we're going to try to do that within the next two weeks, really kind of firm that up. So you have at least a month to make some travel plans. It was cool to see we had some Peter Platinum people from from outside of Florida come down, which was really cool. The North Carolina, Alabama, we had some North Carolina for sure. We had some people coming in. They were double dipping because Metallica was playing at the same time. That's right.
