Back in this period where everyone had a big the parker Palm Springs birthday weekend. And me and my friends were sitting eating at Mr. Parker and Josh Meyer, so you know, who's Seth's brother, who's great. He and Speedman had done at their table. They were waved out and they were walking through. And Speedman just collapsed and fainted on the floor in front of everyone. Like, it was like kind of shocking. I was like, it was one of those scenes where we were like, oh, and but they had been playing foolishly. And these are straight guys who run and gun. They had been playing fucking tennis. And this was in Bizzy's birthday. It was June 25th. It was also the right after it was the day Michael Jackson and Ferro Fawza died and we were all there that weekend. And he clucked because they were playing tennis in Palm Springs during the day. - During June. - And he was dehydrated. In June, the last weekend of June. - It's a rather different age. - I'm kidding. - He just went down. - Speedman dropped out. - Yeah. - Speedman slowed. It's also the night I realized I was getting flu, is went to Karen Kilgare of Fowl. Do you know Karen? She's a stand up and she does my favorite. - My favorite murder. - Old friend. I was doing my new solo show that I'm doing it in April and you're both be forced to go to. Karen was like, come up to the, I can't come to show that night, become the house Jacob Tierenese in town. I know Jacob through Karen, he created a rivalry. And then so after my show, we like, it's only an hour, it's done by nine, hang out with friends, get up to her house about 10, 15 up in the hills. And because Jacob's great, I'm going to see him. And also I was like, I'm going to shake my maracas for Mr., you know. And so I got there, there's a few people in the house. It was like Zach Noe Tower and Guy Brannum. I'm like tenored, other Karao Donald, his husband, Sprinkle Sprinkle, of like Gays and Stray People, very good looking. I could see Jacob out on the patio. And I walked in and saw Karen. And I was like, hey, hi, we were talking and everything. And she was facing me. I was looking into the kitchen and I see Zach Noe Tower and Karao Donald and Simon talking to a guy. And Karen and I are catching up. She's like, I'm like, where's Jacob outside? She's like, yeah, two of the guys are here. And I said, what? And she said, two of the guys from the show are here. 'Cause she hadn't really watched it. She was just kind of like, it's my friend's show, I'm aware, but I have it, you know. And she said, I said, which one? She's like, the guy with his back to the kitchen is the Russian. And then another one's out on the, she's like, it's not, it's not the Asian guy, but it's the other guy who's Canadian. And I was like, and I literally, I'm feeling it now, like I started to get like faint. Like I literally, the thing with the blood rushes out of your head, everything goes a little bit white. It's the thing about fainting for me. I always go white, not black. And I was just like, and she held my hand. She was like, deep breath, deep breath. And so the gag, as you gay say, was, I went, and of course I told the story a million times that I would tell until I die, which could be any day now. But anyway, I walked in to see, I'm like, Zach, Carrie did it, hug, hug, hug, hug. And I'm like, hey, hi, I'm, say I'm, hey, gag. I said, I didn't even say that. I was like, I love the show. You're so amazing. It's gorgeous, gorgeous, Connor story. He said, I see, he's like, I know you. And I was like, what? He's like, we've met before. [LAUGHS] And I said, oh my god. I was like, please help me out here. And he's like, no, but we know each other with the same world. And we figured it out. And I was like, oh, because my, when I made a best, he's Drew Drogie with his ground link teacher. Because he was just like any other young job being trying to make it actor in LA. And he's like, I had ground links. And I've seen him. I think a gold girl's another like gay ground link shows that I've done and other stuff. So it's like we met in passing. And also he's like from TV. And I was like, thank you. Then I got side. And it's Scott Hunter's, Francois, Arno. And he, I said, hi to Jacob and his producing partner. And I turned to Francois. And he was like, I was like, it's so great to meet you. So he's very disarming. And they're both very like, you don't need to-- They're both so kind about it, but very bizarre. And it's just a small personal space. And then he was like, oh, I know you. We've met before. No. I don't think so. I was like, you were going to move me with my friend. Because he's in twin list with my best girlfriends in. And we were talking about that. And then Jacob started saying who I was to him and said really nice things, which I wrote me because I'm so humble. And then the fucking other gigatag was this, that we're sitting around a table. It's like Connor, Francois, next to me. And he's very much more French and like, essentially so great. I just look just cigarette with them. And I shouldn't have. And Jacob and Karen and Guy Brannum and the Karen's cousin and his wife and this very small chatty chatty, really cool, Loki. And then Karen, who's like me, Guy Brannum, Karen, Francois, Brendan-- of course I have it memorized. And then the other people. And then Francois next to me. And he's like, Karen mentioned to podcasts. And he was like, podcasts. And then he's like, oh, my God. Oh, my God. He was like, that's her. He didn't know because he's a huge-- my favorite murder fan. He didn't understand. He was a Kirinco Garofsels. It was just Jacob's friend, Karen, my God. Because I guess he didn't put it all together. He was like, I didn't put it together. I didn't put it together. And he was like, I'm gonna faint. I'm gonna faint. And I was like, oh, my God, that was me five minutes ago. Like, it was such a weird switch of rule. And I said, I'll tell her. He's like, just say anything. It was so fucking crazy and wild. And he was like, I can't believe it. I can't believe this is your house. I never put it together. I said, they're listening to her voice as on a podcast. She's telling the story. He's like, it was just one of his magical LA nights. That's all. Yeah. That's amazing. I feel like there's-- I mean, that's gotta happen all the time. But like, celebrities meeting other celebrities who fawn over celebrities, who also fawn over them. It's like, everyone's about to pass out always in the town. You know what I mean? Yes. Well, that's why we need to go to-- And I'd be lucky to go to the Emmys and Shit. And it's like that. It's crazy. Yeah. Oh my god. It's like, um, today's the fourth. This was January 17. Wow. January 17. I cannot think of another like set of stars that have shot to like the stratosphere as quickly as these boys have. And and Brendan Brady, the producer for he's like, and we're like, and most of the days were 10 hour days, which I was like, what? And he was like, Jacob's that good. They had their shit together. I was telling some other production person. They were like, yeah, they can sleep two days for hockey, two days of the cottage. To the I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, yeah. But what is like your first horror memory? What is like a movie that stands out to you? Well, I was thinking about this today where like I've been asked that before. And other than, but I realized today that I, if this counts, other than like the wicked, which in the Wizard of Oz, which impacted all of us very heavily or like the scary part of Willie Wonka because I am an old Gen X. I remember dark shadows was on every day when I got him from kindergarten in first grade. And nothing we watched it with our neighbors, the seabirds, and nothing was scarier. And I realized now like at the time feeling like I should be more brave. And I'm like, baby boy, you were five and six years old. There's nothing scary about it now, but just the thermon music and the house on the cliff and the rolling waves. And I mean, like that was and the name coming into focus of dark shadows. It's stately, you know, oh my God, I can't believe it. Colleagues would man or yes, college would man or that that was like that was the feel I had of like I might be my pants. I might I'm so excited yet. And I there's also that thing with horror when you're young. I think at least with me where there was like that that excitement scared, you know, you love to be chased, you love hide and seek, you love that stuff. But then there's also when you're this boy and you realize your deal about liking guys a lot when you're four, there's a free song of eroticism in there too, because I was like, oh, the men in Barnabas, college. And I cannot tell you how fucking famous Barnabas coblins and Jonathan Fred was in that period. It was major and he wasn't for me, but Quentin David Selby was. So that was really the first thing that I remember as a true like almost daily being terrified horror experience. Yeah. No, that's I mean, five for a vampire least daytime soap opera is that's a lot. Yeah, I do. I definitely scared. Where will yeah, the whole the whole Shabang. I remember being I was scared, but I was also fascinated when I want whenever I my grandma would always put it on when I would come over and I was like, totally I couldn't get a read on it. I was like, this is scary, but also soapy, but also like just I was just like really enamored by it. It's a great. Where do you stand on the Tim Burton remake. - Oh, I sit and I lie down about it. I don't stand. I also recently, not recently enough, I was looking about when I saw that because like, should I watch again, so I get another chance because I love Michelle Fyfer. And I looked at it and it was one of the last, I remember going by myself to see in the theater. It was one of the last movies I saw where I was so, before I went into rehab and detox and where I was so sick with the drink that I was not like an alive person. And so I don't know how good my gauge was. So I probably should watch it again. - I don't know if you're gonna have that different. - But there is something, there is something, I have a hot take. I think it might be the last, I don't wanna like, shit on Tim Burton. But I think it might be the last movie of Tim Burton's that you can tell is Tim Burton. - Not, not, not, not, not, not, not, - Be the juice, be the juice. - Yeah, but it didn't, it's true. - Oh, that's true, yeah. - How did that felt? And then it's also written by the guys from Smallville, and which that's like, like Smallville was like very much my shit in like middle school high school. - Oh yeah. - So something about the pacing of the episodes, which is sometimes maddening as an adult to me, it hits the like kid me, and I'm like, okay, this is a great show. - Okay, yeah. - I still get to see the the second season, but I liked the first season. - I love it. - I love it. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Second season has lots of Joanne alumni, and I'm that gay, who, yeah. - She's grandma. - She's gay. - Well, Eva Green is coming on for season three as Morticia's sister. - Really? - I love that. - I love her that. - Which is like brilliant. - Amazing. - Speaking of, yeah, is it she, whatever her name is, - Dark Shadows. - And Jillika. - And Jillika and Dark Shadows movie. - So I love her. - Yeah, I love her. - Dark Shadows, I think is the Tim Burton. I have not seen the whole thing of, I watched part of it on cable and was like, this is not good. 'Cause I like actually, - Give it a listen. - I watched a bunch of the show. - I literally wanted four people who's like, Dark Shadows, give it a visit. It's like, my voice can be heard around the world, like because there's no one else saying that. So, but the original Dark Shadows, Sam, amazing. - Scary. - Yeah, scary. - I'm surprised you've seen it, 'cause you guys are wildly younger than I am. And I'm surprised that you, - Wow, that's like, who's that lady? She got such, just burlin her hair. - Freshly 21. - Wow, just a baby. I hope that's out liquor in there. - I know. - I was really into DVDs of like old soap operas. - Oh, interesting. - And so I watched through a lot of Melrose plays, I watched through like three seasons of Dallas and three or four seasons of Dynasty. - Interesting. - And I watched like one of the greatest hits collections of Dark Shadows, just to stretch the itch. And then I was like, I don't need to go deeper on this. - It moves so slowly. - It is, it's like, you try to watch it now. And it's like, how did anyone stand for this back then? But I posted, there's a good documentary. So it's good to watch the documentaries. They're all on to me. But it all, it feels like something that like HBO Max, should make like sort of the same thing as the pit, where it's all in the house. So you don't have to go to a bunch of locations. - Yes. - Just like 15 episodes a year of like this adaptation of Dark Shadows with like. - That's a great idea. - Good effects. Like that's where it should be. It doesn't need to be a Tim Burton mega budget movie. It should be like sort of more Wednesday level. A little, yeah. - And all in the old Dark House, or maybe right outside of it, or in the tunnels or basement or like the outbuildings. - Yeah. - To the tunnels. - Yeah, you're just, you're like on like two stages on the Warner Brothers lot. You go to a cemetery once a season to be outside. - Good. - Also, I was re, the last time I rewatched a lot of the later ones, especially the color ones, I forgot how much later on the kids are in it. Like the boy who plays, I think David, but there's a little boy and a little girl. And the little girl is, oh my God, she's somebody. She became somebody later. - Michelle Feiffer. - Yes. - DD Feiffer. But they worked those kids. Those kids got worked. Going back to Dark Shadows, would you also consider that one of your comfort watches if you were to like revisit a horror something regularly? - I have been known to go to Amazon and put it on or to be or something, haven't even the movies, which aren't that good, but they're like shiny bright movie 70s colors. - Yeah. - It's one of my, it's one of my go-to's. I haven't done it a while. My go-to's are random. - Yeah, it is. - But if I'm going to, what I'm obsessed with is strong, but like what I watch a lot of now is a guy named Josh Speagle, Sarcates is wrong, he does the movie timelines on YouTube. And he's going through every single decade and talking about every single horror movie and sci-fi movie ever made. And he'll do like a chunk of like 1982. Here is like seven things and go through with clips. How this gentleman, this gentleman of Pasadena pulls this, he's so charming and cute. - Okay. - And are competitions through it? So those are two for counting those as horror. I am like suspense ghost old dark house supernatural demons devil. Um, chain chainsaws maybe like if it's a slasher like checks a chainsaw massacre. That's a masterpiece. That's different. Halloween. Here's my experience with slasers. And this movie we're going to discuss tonight in particular. I saw Halloween in 78. I was 14. It changed my life. I was like, yes, it's fucking amazing. That was probably because I saw like, you know, I'd seen sort of things like I don't even think I saw burnt offerings or the Sentinel. These are stuff I covered recently on my podcast. But they were like scary like trashy is 70. We weren't a lot of see the exorcist. I didn't see the Omen other kids did. But I didn't see a lot of that stuff because I was kind of like a dig it scared. Yeah. And then Halloween. I remember exactly who I saw with where I saw the car that my thunder bird, my friend Matysha drove the took us there. I was like, this is, this is amazing. I love this by the time. And then everything was a copycat. And then later on, the other big thing that really scared the fuck out of me that I thought was fucking brilliant was phantasm. That movie fucking raked me up and down when I saw that when I was in like, and again, I'm in high school seeing this movie. Yeah. This movie. So for either 13 came out in 1980. You have to understand I'm 61 years old. I was born in 64. I turned 18 and 82. I graduated in 82. In 1980, when I was in high school, the only movies with teenagers in them were fast times at Ridgemont High. That was one thing. Later on, there was Valley girl. John Hughes hadn't started yet. Fast times at Ridge mont High is great. It's also dark. It was California and said nothing to me about my life. More. So I also I'm gay. Secret super in the closet gay. Obviously. And the movies come out and it's about teenagers, you know, these older people playing teenagers and they all get brutally slaughtered, slaughtered unsuspensively and unsinematically in my opinion. The first Friday, the 13th kind of, but I just I hated going to all these movies. And of course, it's prom night and territory and all the things in there were somewhere clever than others, somewhere interesting than others. So I liked more than others, but like all my these people, my age is getting killed, killed, killed, killed. Then in 82, AIDS comes along. I know I'm gay. I'm going to college. I'm like, Oh, then I did start to watch my friends get killed by AIDS. So slasher's like to me, I was always and then there was also the other thing there was the pretenders was porquies, which is just I first and young millennial porquies apologists at the time. I was like this fucking piece of shit also was a lot of titties and girls and fucking girls. And I kind of had a girlfriend. It was like all this pressure to fuck girls and love titties and like what we know. Just like you know, either kill them or fuck them. Don't have friendships with them. God forbid. And the worst thing on earth you could possibly be is gay. You know, so I this one from I remember seeing I saw this in the it came out in the spring. I think of like 82. I would have still been in high school, maybe the summer, but I was just either out of high school. And I remember I remember seeing it because it was one of the first like 3D like I'm trying to make camera like is an I. Yeah. Yeah. And like and it I wasn't until I did the research on this. I'm like, oh yeah, really was first. We're like, you know, pitch for yes. Yes. And it just I rewatched it like twice this week and I just I want to like it. I want to love it. And I don't love it the way I love a lot of other things of 80s horror. So I just not a slasher guy. I think I know I'm not into kills. I watched people. I've seen enough people die. I've been there after people have died. I have no romance or excitement about it. Yeah. I also, you know, I was the generation. We saw people get killed on TV for the first time with the assassinations and Vietnam. And I just like, I don't want to see that. And I had so much anxiety anywhere being gay. So there's my rant about particularly Friday the 13th. I liked it more when I'm more banana. And Corey Feldman comes in and then it's just like, you know, more ridiculous. Yeah. There's like these nice young people who are like shiny bright and having a good time. Right. Who are like, we barely know that before they're horribly murder, especially in the one, is it two, the guys in the wheelchair and the guys or is that for two? Yeah. Yeah. So sexy. And the guy who now is so gay and so sexy. Yeah. It just made me sad and upset. Also, of course, no, nothing in there showing me that I might have a life in a world. Yeah. Right. In the world. Yeah. Yeah. You got young people going on vacation and then like getting immediately murdered. So it's like, I did what eat it. The promise of a great time is like gone at like horribly arrived. And this is happening in real, in real time. It's happening for me in real time. Yeah. My point was like, I'm a teenager watching these teenagers. And I have nothing else in the big screen than 14. Right. Well, it's almost the good time where lap of representation is actually kind of nice because at least in the first five or six years of the slasher wave, there isn't even like coded gay victims. They're all. Yeah. They're all just like Corey Parker and what's his name? And they're the leather daddy stuff. Which is that night. Nightmare Nobs. Two. Two. Yeah. Which we have. Nightmare Nobs Street. Yeah. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, not two. And I don't remember specifically, but it's just like, why are they in leather daddy outfits? Like black leather jacket because they're not like if they're bikers, they're not driving motorcycles.
