(upbeat music) Starting in Europe today. In Germany, there was an election for the Parliament of the State of Saxony Unhalt yesterday. At the time of recording, the votes are still being counted. However, the far-right AFD party appears to have won the most seats. Some polls predicted that the AFD would win a majority of seats. If this does happen, then it would be the first time that a far-right party had controlled a state parliament since World War II. In 2024, the AFD won the most seats in the Turingia state election. However, they were not able to form a government because other parties refused to cooperate with them. In Ukraine, United States envoy Steve Whitkoff and President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, arrived in Kiev for talks with President Fulodomiz Lensky yesterday. This is the first time that they have traveled to Ukraine. Despite visiting Russia eight times over the last two years, including three hour talks with President Vladimir Putin on Saturday. On Friday, a Russian drone hit the headquarters of Ukraine's SBU security service in during 12 staff. In Norway, the German space company, Esar Aerospace, conducted its first orbital rocket launch on Saturday, becoming the first commercial rocket to reach orbit from continental Europe. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that it was the beginning of a new era. America's in the United States, there has been a mistrial in the case of Lindsay Clancy, a woman who killed her three young children in 2023. Clancy admits to killing her children. However, she says that she heard voices in her head and was in a state of hallucination. Her defense lawyers argue that Clancy is not criminally responsible because she was suffering from a range of mental illnesses and was taking various medications. A jury was not able to agree on whether Clancy was guilty or not, and so the judge declared a mistrial with another hearing expected later this month. Clancy has received wide support from other mothers who say that they experienced postpartum depression and other mental conditions. Speaking to journalists outside the court, Clancy's defense lawyer, Kevin Reddington, said that one member of the jury robbed the others of the correct decision. They know that they were robbed by one man for whatever his agenda was, who stole seven weeks of the life of these other jurors that were so attentive, so beautiful, so wonderful, and listen to this evidence, and you can see how defeated they were sitting there. And I got a funny feeling that they would have gone on for another week if they had to. So I hope that guy can sleep well at night. In Bolivia, two explosions at a military base have killed at least three people, probably soldiers, and injured many more, close to La Paz, according to Bolivian media. Some international media has reported that the explosions may have been caused by a stock of fireworks exploding. However, Bolivian newspaper El De Baer reported yesterday that the explosions may have been caused by military explosives. Africa, the United Nations has voted to formally adopt a different map in order to more accurately show the size of Africa. The United Nations agreed to stop using the traditional Mercator projection, which inflates the size of land further from the equator. Instead, the equal Earth map will be adopted, which more accurately shows each country's relative size. In Egypt, 12 people have been sentenced to death for producing and trafficking drugs. One of those sentenced to death is Sarah Khalifa, a television presenter. Asia and Oceania. In Iran, the United States has hit three Iranian oil tankers, at least one of which was close to Carg Island, where around 90% of Iran's oil is exported. The US said that this was in response to attacks on two US Navy ships. The United States military has turned off advertising trackers on all government-issued computers and phones after reports that these trackers may have given Iran or other countries access to location data, which may have been used to target US forces. A Reuters analysis of an explosion at a wedding celebration in Iran last week, which killed four people, has concluded that it was probably the result of a direct hit from a United States air strike, as reported by Iran. The US has said that it is investigating. Indonesia's National Human Rights Commission, Comnas, has said that the police should investigate food poisoning linked to the major free school meals program started by President Prabowo Subianto. The massive program is aiming to give free meals to all school students, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women. It was a central campaign promise in Prabowo Subianto's successful presidential election campaign in 2024. However, since the start of the program last year, there have been repeated instances of mass food poisoning linked to the meals, including around 2,000 students becoming sick last week. Also in Indonesia, volcanic ash clouds from the eruption of volcano Anak Krakatau have caused flights to be suspended from six airports. Hundreds of flights at Jakarta's main airport were affected. In New Zealand, a passenger plane was forced to make an emergency landing on Saturday after one of its engines caught fire. Local media reports say passengers noticed flames coming out of the engine. And in Australia, a woman has been buried in a coffin made from mushrooms for the first time. The coffin made by the Dutch Company Loop Biotech is designed to be fully biodegradable, taking only about 45 days to break down and provide a nutrient-rich soil.
