Keskustelu alkaa Shopify-mainoksella, jossa yrittäjä kehuu alustan helppoutta verkkokaupan pyörittämisessä. Tämän jälkeen siirrytään jalkapallon MM-kisojen valmistautumiseen. Puhujat analysoivat Thomas Tuchelin kommentteja Englannin harjoitusottelusta Uutta-Seelantia vastaan.

Thomas Tuckal was undesitit on certain plays within the squad maybe had there been a performance from a Harry McWire or a Foden or a Palmer in those games then may have changed his mind or something may have registered but now the squad has been picked. It's just trying to peek at the right time but I don't read anything into the result at all Harry Kane scored people you know it wasn't a great game England weren't at their very best but you know when you change eleven players at half time that's what can happen so while I'm not overly excited or I wasn't overly excited about that particular match I do understand the preparation is vital importance Mark. Jules? It's really interesting because some head coach is like Tishon for example I didn't have any friendly in the US because the idea as well to get much fit is to get used to the heat the humidity even stadiums in the US that are very different to the stadiums in Europe for example and that's what Tuckal did to Tuckal scored very early to Florida and have those two games in the US others have chosen the same way for De Shon for example he wanted to stay in Clafonten in Paris have the two friendlies in France they have one in a few minutes nine Lille and then tomorrow they will have a day off and then they will only fly out on Wednesday when they play before England by the way in the in the workup schedule so I find it quite interesting why has De Shon not decided to come here to the US as early as possible to get used to the time difference the weather that you know everything like that like others and also I think it depends a lot on who you who your friendly is against because as we saw yesterday Moralco against Norway that was a proper proper friendly and I think you learned a lot from that game far more than an England the New Zealand where you knew it was attack the defence and like the boys have said there's not much really we've learned from that so I think depending on where you play and against who you play probably is a better is a better learning process than than for other situations when you're involved in these friendly so you played against Austria pre Euro 2020 how much like psychologically what is going on there are you thinking for crying out loud don't get injured are you thinking well there may be a place that's up for grabs here are you thinking oh well I need to follow these certain instructions because this is how we've been asked to play in this there are so many sort of different variables to maybe what you're being asked to do yeah there is I think the first I think any player who's sitting now and tell you being involved in the game's first thing you think I want to get into the team I think that's the first thing you think I've got into these games actually in that game you mentioned injured there Trent Alexander and I got injured in that game and Mr. Joros if you remember so they are kind of the risks that are put in front of you as well when you are playing these games and I do understand that but at the same time it's about preparing yourself for what's coming I mentioned to you before Charles I want to surprise you with the availability I enclosed those gaming they do penalties for example after because this is what they're preparing for the preparing for what's coming so when when I play in that Austria game the first thing you think of I want to get into the team one way or another and you might be thinking you're realistic and who is actually going to play but you just want to get into the team so you don't think about anything else around it can you prepare yourself as well as possible can you push yourself as much as possible and can you try and get into that starting team. Let's bring in Ian Dennis who's in Florida was at the this friendly we'll be doing the Costa Rica game as well what does Thomas Tuckle then? Can I just say I'm a little bit perturbed and I've been a little bit distracted in the last few minutes remember that Chris Camaro clip when he was at Fratton Park and he'd missed a sending off between Portsmouth and whoever I've just received a message from Gary my producer who just showed me a screen grab just saying we've just had a mini earthquake here in Florida of you and because I was talking to the studio back in Solford I completely missed it but according to Rob my engineer he said my chair was shaking and I didn't see it so supposedly at two or three there was a 20 second earthquake in Florida because a 6.4 earthquake had just occurred on the way.
west of Cuba and it was felt in parts of Florida when a saint was felt it felt in parts of Florida not in my cherry. So everybody's all right then first of all. Are you okay? Yeah, they're fine. Have you only just chosen to ask them that now? Right. So I'll be honest with you, I zoned out a little bit. I heard Connor talk about behind closed doors game, which there will be actually the arrange one against my army FC on on Thursday, but I was paying attention until Gary showed me that text message that we'd had a mini earthquake. Let's try to start again then. What do you think Thomas Tuchel or what has Thomas Tuchel said that he learned from that friend? Well, he said don't read too much into the game. He wasn't happy with the first half performance in his words that he felt that they lack bite and they showed a greater discipline with the second half performance against New Zealand in Tampa. He also said don't get impatient, whether that was addressed to Chris Sutton. I'm not too sure, but he says we will get better. I mean, the thing is is that that match there is exactly as Connor has explained it. It was an extension of the training program. It was just to get the match minutes in. I don't necessarily think they'll play 45 minutes for each member of the squad against Costa Rica on Wednesday when they travel up to Orlando. The Arsenal players have now flown into Florida. So that quartet would be in contention, but he's talked about maybe 70 minutes for some players against Costa Rica. Some then will get 20 and those that do get a run out of say 20 or half an hour, then they'll play the next day against my army FC. Because they remember they've still got a longer weight than most of the other nations who are kicking off this week for that opening game against Croatia on June 17th. He has said this to you called Jules. I mean, you should do what you think of this, particularly if you look at the French squad, for example. Douglas said he has got 14 or 15 starters. What do you think he means by that? And is that too few? Too many? I think he is a great question, Chapters. Because I think that means he's got his team, the starting lineup in his head already. And there's a few positions clearly, you know, three or four, where maybe in his mind there's those two options that one by now he would know who, you know, who's let's take the number 10 position because we talked about the number 10 position for a long time now, Rogers or Balingam. I mean, now there's no further or partner as an option, but there's still a few things that two whole can do. And I think in his mind there's 15 that can start in that 11 and there's positions where you have one favorite and Rina I would think is Rogers and let's say 60 60 60% and then there's another option behind him that is Jules Balingam, let's say, are 40%. Both can start, of course they can. But then I think that in his mind that's how he works and they chance mine works the same is already told us already know about one or two positions, the 11 that we start against Senegal on June 16th. But even in his mind there's probably 13 that can start and there was just those two positions where he would make a decision later on and I don't know if those friends is really move the needle in terms of is the Balingam or Rogers or the 10 is the X or Y as right back or left back or you know whatever. But I do think that by now all of those head coaches especially for the top nations would be okay I've got 10 I'm guaranteed and one or nine and two or eight and three where those three there's still a bit of a discussion to have with the staff with my gut feelings with maybe the fitness that corner mentioned and rightly so earlier I don't think he can play an hour. I think he's still a shot of much fitness and all of that will come into the latest stages before that first game of the World Cup become very important but for me when he said 14 or 15 others can start of course they can everybody in that squad can start but for him for that first game that's how I think he would see in his mind. It wasn't a new quote by the way he actually said it on Friday ahead of the game against Costa Rica. But I think then there was a follow up question about you Balingam who didn't start the game and that's why it's made the headlines but as far as Thomas Turkel's concerned he sees his players in in the different groups he's got the 14 15 potential starters in one group. He's got the leadership group that he's talking about setting the standards and creating the culture within the dressing room and then he's got another group of players who are accepting their roles to try and challenge those others. I think as well with the the heat here out in America I think he looks maybe Harry Kane won't necessarily see out the full 90 so he might say 60 65 minutes in who can come on and then try and change the game whether that is an only Watkins or an Ivan Tony or indeed a Jude Balingam if he doesn't start to then come on and play in a more advanced role. I had heard that part of his thinking Chris was that Balingam would have that role as coming on for Kane. But you're well Balingam playing as a sort of false nine. Yeah right. That's why I heard was part of was part of his plans. You have good context Mark so I'm not I'm not surprised about that but you know we know Balingam is you know really versatile and intelligent football. Yeah I think there's I think there's a fair few debates to be had you know with England but that that wouldn't surprise me and it's called the stir. You know the selection of Ivan Tony wise he in the squad scored a lot of goals in Saudi he can offer that physicality something a bit different and only Watkins is your guy who will run in behind something that the others you know won't do so much but no Balingam is an interesting one but I think I think the battle I think just reading two calls. I mean it does look some battle between him and Morgan Rogers and that will be interesting to see who gets the better that the other area and you know I don't worry he is on this but. Anthony Gordon and Marcus Rashford that looks like another position where you know there I'm in it's interesting now Gordon's gone to Barcelona of course and Rashford with Rashford being there but that looks like another area where. It's a bit of a toss of the coin but I think Rashford actually did himself know harm against New Zealand he looks he looked really sharp so but I don't think there are too many areas in the England team where you know they're up for grabs I think he'll he'll know is starting 11 bar to possibly three I think we you know we know who the center halves will be. I think we roughly know that I will be interesting a Riley whether he is the first choice left back I presume he would be. But you know it's going to be Anderson it's going to be rice it's more than likely going to be Sacka and but yeah just those other areas where I think that there's a debate to be had. In the past Thomas tokels talked about the numbers that Marcus Rashford hasn't been able to generate for England but I like you Chris thought that in that particular duel for the left side of that attack I thought that Rashford caught the eye rather than Gordon but if you look back at his previous. 11 appearances under tokels one penalty that is scored and one assist but he did do I thought he took his chance tokels said before that he doesn't know is 11 it's up to those to try and convince him and I think like you and jewels have mentioned as well is that question who starts in the 10 Rogers or belling him is it going to be Rashford or Gordon I thought that Rashford took his chance against New Zealand at the weekend and then it's about reach James who obviously only returned after a hamstring injury against Liverpool. Towards the end of the season after eight weeks out whether he's fit enough as a right back but a Riley that was his first appearance starting in midfield for England but I like you think he'll be the left back come the start of the tournament but the thing is though is that what they're mindful of and Steve camp the head of performance at the F.A. has talked about this and this is his seventh tournament so in terms of preparation you know this is something that they've done a lot of their due diligence with he says it's the most important thing. It's the most complex tournament that they've ever experienced but if they were get through the group stages they're looking at five knockout matches in the space of 17 days that it's going to be a real turnaround and that's why I think it'll be the squad rather than the team that England rely on very different conditions as well which we have touched on before. Yeah, the potential of facing Mexico in Mexico City altitude in the last 16. Yeah, it goes back to doesn't have any demos exactly right and. Campy was there when I was there and he if there's one person in the world who will make it work it's fantastic he's brilliant to his job and he's brilliant to what he does but it goes back to the fact that we spoke about chapters doesn't it in terms of it's not just performance wise yet but going back to what. Then all said about the team and who do we think is going to be where I also think it comes down to style a play on what Thomas to go on to do so we've heard before and then all of a sec and listen to his interviews when he said about we want to be aggressive you want to be aggressive and you go and go to play. Even a rush was being top and I love Marcus rush for but if you're talking about being aggressive now then the question is can you be aggressive in them conditions can you be aggressive and do it over and over again repeated sprints and get after the ball. What going to be aggressive and any Gordon's going to have to play because he's more aggressive than Marcus rush would if then you're looking for quality on the ball and maybe assists and goals which you need and you need output from the positions then you via towards Marcus rush so it's so interesting but I think style of play and how we enters this tournament is going to be really really interesting to me based on that and I know we virtually all mentioned the 10. Do you think he will have such a thing as a 10 in this tournament? Baronie M.
how we saw Harry Kane play by an increasingly last season. So are you looking and dropping into that space and then Lewis Diaz and Elisa flying on and the way they combined? If you have a 10 as such then Kane and the 10 will be competing at times in the same kind of area, won't they? So do you think he's actually looking at a little bit more versatility within his midfield rather than that necessarily someone playing in the hole? Yeah, I think you'll get versatility anyway because these players are clever and they're really really good. Well, I found interest in the other night and again, I can mention before, I don't think we're going to take much from the game, but Harry Kane was doing what he does for Bayern Munich. He was dropping and receiving in midfield and it was interesting to listen to Thomas II a claf to the game when he said about we wasn't disciplined in our positions. Now, somebody like Harry Kane, it's hard to discipline him in his position because he's so good when he drops deep, but again, we've seen him play for Bayern Munich where he has absolute flies in Bayern. When he drops deep, they know they're running Bayern. So again, it goes back to style of play, how Thomas II could want to play, but I think versatility will come anyway, no matter who you play in that midfield hole because Declan Writers is a hybrid between an 8 and a 6. He's not just going to sit as a 6 next well, he's going to play higher and he's going to go and get the boring, he's going to go and join in like he does for Arsenal. So I think you'll get versatility anyway, Chapters. I just find it interesting more the style of play rather than person, I already goes with. I think that's why Roger is going to start ahead of Bellinger in that 10, because if you look at Kane with Bayern Munich this season, before the Gnabri injury, Gnabri used to be as a 10 behind him, and Gnabri is not a 10, but Gnabri is a great runner. So when Kane used to drop, Gnabri would take all that space and that's why it would be so good at running into the space left by Kane who dropped to get the ball and Kane lost Dain is so good at that. And then you find Gnabri in the 9th position really in the box to finish whatever move Kane started. And I think Roger is just perfect. That's why Tucho loves the Roger's Kane partnership so much. And that's why I think in his mind, I'm not really sure there's even a debate between Bellinger and Roger's right now for who starts the Gnab against Croatia. And then if you again look at Bayern and Tucho not even just as a German or as a former Bayern manager himself, but would have looked at Kane all season long in those Bayerns games on the left Luis Diaz, Pugodon there. The runs in behind is that verticality, the pace, plus the pressing like Konorja said and how aggressive he is. And on the right hand side Sakai and Oli say play the same way. You don't put the ball over the top for then, they don't, they're not runners. That's not what they do. You find them into feet, Kane used to find Oli saying to fit so much so well. And then you let basically Oli say cook like you would let Sakai cook and do something for Kane, for Roger's, for Gordon, for Rice who is the midfield more than Anderson who, like Konorja said, is going to make those late running to the box as well. So if you look at that template from Bayern, WaiKain was so incredible. All season long. And that's why I think he could win the ball on door if England do well in this World Cup and Kane does well in the World Cup. If you two hold every single day, you try to reproduce as much as you can that kind of template that you saw with Bayern, WaiKain felt so at ease all season long. Well, I didn't also didn't play towards the end of the season for Newcastle, which which might be a factor. He might be just still trying to get back up to speed what Konor was talking about at the very start before I was distracted by the mini earthquake. But this time last year in Spain, I was told that Bellingham and Gordon had the best running stats when they did the warm weather training. They went out deliberately a little bit earlier ahead of that World Cup, qualified against Andorra. And in Jeroena where they were training, it was Gordon and Bellingham, who I'm led to believe were in terms of the running stats in the heat were the most impressive. What will be interesting for me and we mentioned you a lot, don't we? I'd like to think his reaction will be good, but you know what you just mentioned there, chap, is about you've heard through your sources, if that's what you're saying, that he could be at a replay. It's just I've sort of pined with a bloke of the hobby one. I'll use that. But if we're saying he's not going to play, do you bellingham? So we've got a Real Madrid player in our England team and he's not going to start, which okay, but she's found with Morgan Rogers at a real good season, fantastic season actually. But then he's going to be the replacement for Harry Kane, not even in his position, he's now starting going to come on as a nine. What's the reaction we get from him for me? I'd like to think it would be a good reaction, but we've seen how we react on a pitch when something doesn't go right as well. So it's an interesting situation and it's something that I'm really looking forward to see because I just want England to win. So wherever he goes or they're just wanting England to win. But I just look at that side of it and think, I don't know what did you get on the back of that. And we've done so many tournaments, Chris, where by where I virtually every time Garas advocate named an 11 at a tournament, we would then spend the next 15 minutes talking about the players who haven't been picked and put and put on the bench every single selection. And what they can't have is is a Jude Bellingham selection dominating this World Cup, can they? No, well, you know, that's it's all about it's kind of quite rightly says I think it's a great point. But it's all about how Bellingham reacts to that, whether he's going to act and chuck his toys out of the prime and and and sulk. But he, you know, too cool, too cool. I mean, he and although this better than me, too cool called him out, didn't he? Well, he has called him out in the past, Bellingham and talked about the importance of the group and the team ahead of any individual. But Bellingham, I think partly through his performance is one or has one Thomas Tuchel around. I think he left. Did he not leave him out of the squad? He in in the past, Jude Bellingham was that right? Yeah, he was, he was out with his shoulder, which he wasn't it? Yeah. Yeah. And you know, he was he was quite public about it and, you know, and about the harmony in the group. So really it's, you know, it's that has to come from Bellingham. What he can't do is he can't start sulking if Morgan Rogers gets to nod over him. I mean, he must know that that's probably, you know, going, going to happen. Bellingham hasn't had the greatest season season at real Madrid. But he may have to just buy this time, but it's, you know, it's not how you start a tournament. It's how you finish a tournament. And there's no doubting that, you know, if he does come off the bench, he can he can impact the game. I don't think Bellingham will start every game in the 10. I think, and because Thomas Tuchel, he values Morgan Rogers as well, but he he doesn't see he said he said a quote to John Murray during the squad announcement that they're not challenges for the position. They're a, I think it was the word he said was a complices. And I think for for Jude Bellingham, who obviously gets a lot of attention, Thomas Tuchel at the minute is really happy with Jude Bellingham. He's happy the way that he's trained. He said he's in a good spot. Incidentally, he was actually given the captain's arm band for that second half team that started against New Zealand. So I think sometimes that there can be headlines that are created about Jude Bellingham, but at this moment in time, everything in the camp and the team spirit, there's a there's a clip on social media doing the rounds. Everybody is as one at the moment in that England camp in West Palm. Um, where do you stand, Chris, on on this over reliance on Harry K, aren't most countries reliant on on their their number one goal score, their main goal score. Yeah. So is it a nonsense argument? No, no, it's not, it's not a nonsense argument because England have over relied on on Harry K, and you see there is numbers this season over over 60 goals, sort of 61, whatever it is in for by Munich this season. I mean, that's that's incredible. You can't, you know, he's going to start. He's irreplaceable, but it's, it's the big if if he gets injured then, you know, will, will, will Watkins be ready? Will Ivan Tony be ready? So I mean, you know, even, even the game against New Zealand, it was pretty flat, and then he comes up with that header. I mean, it's a genius finish from him, you know, to, to score from that position and, and, and divert the ball as he, as he did do. I mean, Thomas Tuckle just has to, I mean, it will be interesting how he, how he manages Harry Kane and how many minutes he, he gives him. I mean, but he has to, he will have to manage his minutes carefully, but if he, if he gets injured, then it's, you know, we are, we are all looking at the England team in a totally different way, where if, if, first, any other player gets injured, you're thinking, well, we, you know, but isn't, probably be all right, but is that, is that not, is that not the same jewels if Norway lost Harland or Sweden lost Yokkarez or Bosnia and Herzegovina lost Jekko or France and then Bappe or Argentina or Messy. I mean, I've got percentages of their percentage of goals out of team goals through qualifying, you know, and Bappe is 31% of France's goals in qualifying. Harry Kane's 36% of England's goals. You could make the argument for several of those. Yeah, absolutely, and I think that this is the nature of those tournaments and of those, of those teams as well is that one player doesn't make your whole team and does it, it's not everything, but for some, it's not far from being the case. And so I know, and Chris is right, if Kane gets injured or if and Bappe gets injured or if Harland, you know, what happens behind what's next. But then they might not get injured and they, they would score six, seven, eight goals in the tournament and take their team really fine. That's why, that's why we expect from them. I don't think this putting too much pressure on them. I don't think we overreliant them. It's just the kind of players that they are right now at this stage in their career because they're just the best in the world. So I think it's power of it. And also the nature of an era where it tends to be one main man up front. No, Connor, I mean, you know, like back in the day, if Blackburn lost Shira, they'd have Gallagher or Newell. But it's now a
Nowadays, nowadays, it's kind of, you have one main striker. Of course you do. Of course you do. And we're talking about the best main striker in the world for me. So, can we be over a lie on him? Yes, of course we can, because he's our main man and we need him fit. And this argument of, and what we seem to do, and I don't know if it's the same in other countries, you're probably tellers, but we seem to have this argument about, we've got the best, what I believe is the best striker in the world. And we try and find ways and go, what if we don't have him? Well, how do we think of that? Let's just hack that if it does come. I don't know why we think, I don't know why in this country. And I said, Julie might tell us different that it might happen in France or other countries, but in this country we seem to do this thing where we've got someone unbelievable. So let's love him. But we don't. We go, well, what happens if he gets injured? Then we might not have somebody as good, we'll only think about that because he is injured and he'll make sure he does everything because he's one of the most professional fellows I've ever met in my life. So let's enjoy him because we are aligned on him. David, you might get injured, but you just might get him. You might not as well. Why, why you think of that? But because it's, I mean, it goes with the territory, if you're a football, there's a fair chance you're getting injured. I mean, you have to, and then we have to talk about who's going to replace him. And if you, you know, just can't, you can't replace him. You can't replace his goals. You can't replace him like for like the England, you know, whether it's Tony or Bellingham as a, as a false Nima or, or Watkins, that, that, that debate was doing the rounds at the last euros. Wasn't that, should it be Kane or Watkins and was Cain dropping too deep? You know, so, so that was, that was doing the rounds before, but I think that it is, it is, you know, when people talk about that, I think it's, it's a fair enough point to, to bring up for the reason I've said, we would all feel different with England. But for me, but for me, that is a, that's a manager, that we're not the managers of England. Let him deal with that. I don't feel like others, English people, I don't understand why we think in a negative way like that. We always do it every, every single competition. There's always questions negatively about what if we don't, but we do have them. So that's end of it. Do you, in France, pour over whether what, if and Bap, I get injured? Yeah, but we, Conor is right. We don't, we don't talk about it. Remember the euros where he broke his nose in that first game against Austria and after day, it was all a bit chaotic and, and, and it was difficult, but, but there's not much talk about that when La Minia Margo injured because it could be different positions for other countries. We talked about number nine for nowhere France, England, potentially, I think for Germany and Harvard. But then for Spain, if they lose La Minia Mar, it would be in a similar position. Okay, what do we do next and, you know, who can we rely on kind of thing? But, but they make sure that they, they covered him in cotton. Is that what you're saying? You know, after the incident, they've been cut, rather than cotton balls. Yeah, they've not covered them in cotton. That would be an, no, but that, yeah. Even you, Chris, got the idea, even you got the idea or, or Mac Tomini for Scotland. I think if Scotland lose Mac Tomini, but, but right now, this is not what you should be thinking of anywhere. You should make sure that those players, you get the best out of them. So whether your structure is around them, whether you play everything to them, whatever way you want to use them, the ball doesn't have to go every single time to La Minia Mar, if you're Spain, but if you don't have Frente, you'd be silly not to use him as much as possible on that right hand side. And same for, you know, how to get the best of Mac Tomini and the tournament, etc, etc. Before even thinking, who could we go to next if something happened to them? When you were in these squads, how many people were in the leadership group? Ian's mentioned just a final thing. I feel like leadership always gets taught by his. So, Declan Rice is now the vice captain behind Kane. Is that important or is it the leadership group that's the important bit? Both. Both I think it's an incredible honor for Declan Rice because I think it shows the influence he has on the squad. He's obviously in the leadership group and rightly so because he's a fantastic player, but are greatly either at the same time. When I was there with England, there was about seven or eight of us within the leadership group when I was there. And I always remember the first camp that one of the first camps that I went on, I was in it. And it was fantastic. It was a group that you spoke about things off the pitch, the culture and the dressing room, what can we do here, what can we do there, how can we make that better. And it's a good thing to have within a squad. So, I'd like to think it's probably similar now. You might have maybe one or two less or maybe one more or whatever it is, but it's usually around that mark of giving people the responsibility of leading the group. And I think it's brilliant for the manager when you want to be away for so long. I'd be hoping when they're away for so long that you've got people within the group who can take on that responsibility. Did you have groups in different positions as well or whether, like if you'd look at in the rugby union, for example, you may have a leader of the forward, a leader of the backs and so on and so on. Yeah, no, no. Different positions or maybe players who had different roles weren't necessarily going to start or might be on that, the group that then trained the following day after a match just to get a sense of the mood there. Was it, or was it just done on seniority? No, I don't think it was done basically on things like you're saying. It was done on who was a leader? Who would like to take responsibility in their moment? I always remember after the first game in the Euro, Jordan Henderson, it was obviously a massive part, it's brilliant, brilliant leader. And obviously that's a massive reason since why it's gone now. But we train the day after Croatian in the Euro's and the session was top really good. But Jordan pulled everybody at the end and he just asked Garofy if he could have a word and he said at the end of the train, that's how training's got to be every single day because them sessions are hard and I'm sure the guys will tell you as well. When you don't start a game, the next days can be tough when you train on your own. You're allowed to do a recovery, they've just got a good result, they've just won the first game of a major tournament and you've got to go out and train. But he took it up on himself to really drive it and do what he needs to do and he wasn't playing. But that's a big part of it as well for me. So how will they shape up then, Ian? Finally, I had to have Costa Rica. What do you expect him to do? Well, I said earlier on that he won't do the 45 minutes experimentation again. I don't think we'll see players maybe playing for 60 to 70 minutes against Costa Rica. But they've got this behind the closed doors game lined up against Miami on Thursday. So those that don't feature will then get another run out in that match as they stay here a little bit longer in Florida. And talking of the leadership group, we do ask the questions to Thomas Tuchel about it. But they're reluctant to talk about who's actually in it. But as well as Declan Rice and Harry Kane as Vice Captain and Captain, you'd have Jordan Pickford, you'd have John Stones as Conor has already outlined the importance of Jordan and Anderson. And I think you could throw Dan Bern in there as well. So there'd be at least six in that group who'd be part of the leadership group for Thomas Tuchel. OK, Ian, thank you. And Ian will be bringing you commentary of England against Costa Rica on Wednesday night, although given he's struggled to observe an earthquake taking place. How much you want to trust this commentary on that? I'm not 100% sure. Buy my thoughts. My favorite World Cup moment. It's the first World Cup I properly remember watching. Argentina 78, the ticket tape, Mario Kempe's, Ari Hans scoring goals from miles out. And always one of my favorite World Cup moments. Archie Gammel's great goal for Scotland against the Dutch. What makes the World Cup such a special tournament is the atmosphere, the colour, it is a meeting of the nations and of people who look football. The People World Cup 2026. Listen on BBC Sounds. This is the Monday night club with Mark Chapman on the football daily podcast. Let's move on to talking Scotland. Next, their World Cup preparations are complete. So their next game is their opening World Cup fixture. Early on Sunday morning against Haiti, it's a 2am kickoff. Full commentary here on Five Live and BBC Sounds. You can watch it on BBC One as well. And John McGayn has been talking about settling into camp in America. It's been amazing so far as an experience for the players, for the staff so far. In Miami, I've climatised to some sort of humidity and heat, which we did, we missed the sun. The weather wasn't great, but the humidity was still there. So good exercise, he's good training. And then today the humidity is a little bit less, but the heat is there, and we've prepared ourselves in the best possible way. I think we've learned from the mistakes of the last major tournaments, as a group, players, staff, everyone above that. We want to try and eradicate those mistakes and give ourselves no excuses. It's getting real, I think you see the fans are starting to travel. They're all ports are getting busier. You get photos from back home, albeit five hours later than the normal. But it's exciting. I think everyone's excited. We are no different. But there's a steely focus about everyone. The gym was packed in there, which you might be with near seen five or six years ago. So everyone's doing the right things, and we're ready for Saturday. John McGayn on how they are settling in in America. Let's talk to our Scotland reporter already out there. Jay Lewis, that they are a very relaxed camp at the moment, are they? Yeah, they certainly seem to be pretty relaxed, Mark. You heard there from John McGayn. He was talking about how excited this squad are to get involved in the World Cup again, to be involved in the World Cup again. And they want to do themselves proud. And they have this team spirit, a spot under a kind of renown for having the kind of brave heart element of things, aren't they? But that kind of belief that they have in themselves, and that kind of close bond that this squad seems to have, I think, could be quite telling in this World Cup. We've heard from John McGayn talking about it, the likes of Ryan Curstey, other key players as well, Lewis Ferguson, talking about the special nature and the special bond that this squad have to have together. And I think that could be key, really, doing this World Cup. I mean, certain members of the Monday nightclub have been a little comudianly when talking about pre-tornement friendlies. you could take what you want out of them depending on whether you win lose.
or score a lot. And the fact that Scotland have scored eight in two and only conceded one against Curacao and Bolivia is a huge positive. Yeah, I think so. I absolutely do. I mean, I think that the game against Curacao was, I think a little bit frustrating from Steve Clark's point of view, because of course, Curacao lost a man. There are a man said, "Oh, and that's not what you want. It's not ideal preparations. You want obviously to be playing a living against a living." But yeah, still the fact that they managed to score four goals in that game, conceding one would be a bit of a disappointment, but they managed to score the four goals. The likes of Lauren Shankland took his chances very well and probably did his self-know-harm at all in terms of trying to get a starting birth in that lineup against Haiti. And then, of course, there was the friendly against Bolivia, which was just a really almost like a perfect friendly, if you like. You know, they scored goals against, again, Lauren Shankland linked up really well with Shay Adams, they kept a clean sheet. Players managed to get game time as well in the second half. Steve Clark was able to make a lot of changes. So yeah, I think they'll take an awful lot out from these two friendlies. A lot of confidence it'll build upon their belief as well that they already have. So yeah, I think, as you say, you can look at friendlies and you can take from what you want from them. But I think Steve Clark will be very, very pleased with how those friendlies have gone, especially the one against Bolivia out here in New Jersey. Because, of course, that was played in really testing conditions, the kind of conditions that they'll be playing against Haiti against in Boston on Saturday. So that was also a real plus. You can see plenty of positives there, Chris, can you? Yeah, yeah, I can. I mean, Steve Clark signing a new deal as well. I think that that's, you know, that's a big deal to keep that continuity with Scotland. Let's get with the friendly games. They are what they are. I mean, you know, you think the Scotland lost to Japan, not so long back, lost to Ivory Coast and then, you know, it's sort of Steve Clark, you know, was questioned over those results. But as a warm up go, you know, beating Kurosai was Jane quite rightly said, who won up or went down to 10 men beating Bolivia by four goals to Neil was, you know, puts them in a pretty good place. I think the interesting thing for Scotland will be how Steve Clark sets up against Haiti will he go with two up top. Ganon Doke was, you know, very good against Bolivia. Actually, no, I didn't start the Premier League game for Bournemouth this season. But, you know, he's there, he's their ball carrier or, you know, does Steve, I mean, it looks like there'll be Adams and Shanklin the front to or does he go with the next robot in midfield. I just think Scotland see this as their chance to get off to a flyer. But Haiti, you know, they'll probably be thinking the same thing as Scotland. This is our chance to get three points. So I don't think Steve Clark will be underestimating them in any way, shape or form. They're a team. I've got Wilson Ester door from Sunderland, Belagard from Wolves and, you know, they qualified by Wright. And it's not going to be an easy game. But everybody's looking at the game thinking, well, Scotland, you know, should get three points. It's not as it's not as simple as that. So it's, you know, while all the, I mean, everybody's positive going into the World Cup, aren't they? Normally, other than England occasionally. So, you know, everybody's confident in the group, you know, everybody's together. Let's just wait and see after the first game when the wheels are off. He has to go for it, Jane, doesn't he? To a certain extent, apparently mind the other two teams in the group, though. Yeah, I think that's the common consensus. Certainly that you need to try and obviously get the win, but you also need to try and score as many goals as you can, because, you know, three points could be enough to get through assuming we don't get anything against Morocco or Brazil, but it might not be. It might come down to how many goals you've scored, but yeah, I think that is a general consensus. And I think, you know, it's interesting, Chris talking about how Scotland are going to line up. The 4-4-2 seems to be working for them right now, you know, against Bolivia. And obviously it's going to be a different game, but the Shankland and the Adams link up play against Bolivia was excellent at times. And listen, you talk about the midfield from a Scotland point of view. That was a midfield that didn't have John McGinn starting in it as well. Ryan Christie was exceptional. Ben Ganondoke was electric. The energy that boy has running up and down the wing and delivering the kind of crosses that he does was just the exceptional and running it players. You know, he could turn out to be a really key player for Scotland in these, in this tournament. And the other conundrum, I think, Steve Clark has, is his goalkeeper. You know, Scotland have a great tradition of having goalkeepers who've been exceptional. You go back to, you know, even further back than the 98 World Cup. But, you know, further back than that, you know, that Jim Layton's Andy Gourham's in this world, you know, that he had a, Scotland had a really fine goalkeeping selection headache that if you like to pick from. This time he's got goalkeepers and Craig Gordon, Angus Gunn, who are not playing for the clubs. Craig Gordon has just come back from injury as well. So I think that's going to be really interesting to see who he picks in goal for Scotland. It was Angus Gunn against Belivia, kept a clean shoot, made a couple of saves as well. He started Craig Gordon against Kurosau. He needs game time. That's for sure. So I think that they, almost they can have two up top if it is two up top. They can allow Lauren Shangland and Shea Adams combination. That's almost not quite a stick on because I would never try and a second guess what Steve's Clark's going to do. But certainly in terms of the areas of the park, those two have been playing really, really well and linking up well. So you would have to assume, as you say, he's going to have to go for it. He's going to have to try and get goals. And those two right now are going to prove and recipe for forgetting that. If you were in that Scotland squad, would you be lucky at that first game if you have to win? I know you're going to ever game think we have to win it. Of course. But you are lucky at that thinking. It's a pity for me and I know what Chris is saying about it's going to be tough and it's a perfect game for Scotland for me and my eyes. Would you want this perceived weakest side in the group first? Yeah. So I thought you would. 100%. So you can get a, so you can get a, if you get a win in the first game, you put yourself in an unbelievable position to go through, then Jane just mentioned it there about talking about goals and everything. But if you get three points on the board knowing one of the other two teams are going to drop points or a ball for them if it's a draw, you're in an unbelievable position going into the next game. A hundred percent you want on paper, the weakest team first, especially if you've got them both for me. It's a perfect game for Scotland during a great form. They're playing really well. They have a striker who's scoring goals. In fact, they have both strikers who have scored on goals. And I think it's a perfect game from going into it. So they've got a real, real big opportunity. And I think they go through Scotland. I think they found a way through whether it's one, two or three. But they've got a perfect game to go into and I think they're in great form going into it. Sorry. It's just worth bearing in mind Mark that playing the perceived weaker team, if you like, I think is a massive benefit and bonus from a Scotland point of view. Because if you look back to the Euros and they played Germany and were completely blown away by Germany and the opening game of the Euros, you talked to some of the players since then and they admit that they absolutely threw them. They were spooked on the day and it took them a long, long time to go over that over that. And you could argue, Mogen again said it in the press conference today in that Euros. A lot of their big players did not step up. They did not come to the four. And if they were to play Brazil and Morocco first up in this World Cup and they were to, you know, you know, suffer a heavy defeat or any kind of defeat, then it has such a negative effect. And also I think Steve Clark will be more than happy the fact that he's playing the so-called weaker side in this group. Does history put them under pressure and their record at major tournaments? No, yeah, I don't think that the players will be burdened by the weight of history. I think that under Steve Clark, you know, Scotland have been a success. I mean, I think I understand the, you know, the comparison with Germany and what have you and Scotland never recovering from that, the Euros wasn't easy. But look, I think the first game is really difficult. I think it's the Beal and Endall and Scotland. I'm not saying Scotland fans are thinking this, but everybody's looking at the glory game with Brazil and Morocco. The focus for Scotland is just solely on this game. And I think, you know, you mentioned early, you said Steve Clark has to go for, he's quite, you know, it is a manager where he has options with his team selection. He's a horse, for courses, type of guy. And he'll just be focusing on winning this game. I just think that we just, we have this habit, you know, not just saying in England, but in Britain of just underestimating teams, because they're Haiti, you know, Haiti beat New Zealand 4-0. So some people may say Haiti a better England. They could look at England's results against New Zealand. They will hate you a bit. That would be ridiculous to say that. I mean, just saying that some people may say that all I would say is this is a side who, you know, I think they drew with Iceland. You know, this side aren't a disastrous air force World Cup for what 52 years, you know, whatever it is. I mean, just not having the advantage of that. I'm just saying you can't underestimate them. I mean, they've recruited really well. And, you know, the manager's been quite cagey sort of with his recruitment and got players in who can do that.
can sort of handle themselves. I mean, just reading up about it, you know, fascinating. I didn't play a home game because of the unrest in the country at the play. I think, you know, in the main end, in Curacao and what have you. But it's just, I don't think this is an easy game for Scotland. That's why it annoys me where, and I know everybody looks forward. Of course, they do in the excitement of, you know, the group, but putting yourself in a Scotland player's boots, it's if we win this game. But the pressure is going to be on because if Scotland end up drawing the game, everybody will write them off. I'm just saying it's not, it's not an absolute gimmi how people are seeing this, you know, far from it. But I think Scotland like, oh, no, I think they'll go through. I think Scotland will scramble, not scramble for points, but I think Scotland will get four points from the group. I think the pressure is huge on Scotland before this game. And if there's, because they will be there, they have, they're the favourite. So they will have a lot of the ball. They will play against the IT team that is aggressive, but is also playing a low block and will be very happy. Even if they know this is a game that they, you know, of the other of the three they will play, they have the more chances to do well than, I guess, more welcome. Brazil, sure. But this is not their style to go out organ blazing and try to take the game away from Scotland who are better players overall as an 11 and as a squad than this IT team. The thing about the cooling breaks in this workup as well is that don't think about two halves of football anymore. Think very much of four quarters of football, right? And if you play against a low block, what is difficult for a low block when you defend and defend and defend is that at some point you're going to make a mistake. But if every 23 minutes you have a break and for two minutes you can go and talk to your manager, get water, that breaks the game so much in a way than if you've been 45 plus three or four under pressure and with waves coming after waves after waves after wave and you will have to defend without losing your focus, making any mistakes. This game for all those teams, the smaller nations especially, but it can go with Scotland against Morocco and Norway and Brazil as well later on. Is that you also know that you'll have a break, half way through that first half, half way through the second half, or you can regroup, speak to your manager, get a breather and it'd be much more easier if you're playing in a lower block to defend that way than in normal time when you don't have those cooling breaks. Are you saying it could be quite dull? I think for the group stages, I think Chapters, we will see a lot of those games especially the first two games in each group potentially. Not when it's a blockbuster like a Morocco, Brazil game for example, but I think there's a lot of teams, especially the, again, the smaller nations who'd be very smart said, you know, if we take two points here of the first two games, then anything is possible with three. Remember New Zealand, I think the last time they went in the World Cup 2010, I think, had three draws, didn't they, in the three games? Three draws in this tournament and you can qualify. So I think it's a very, very different approach now with 48 teams and 42 of them qualifying than anything we've seen before. Let's talk Spain. I'm actually more club story here with Guillain Balagay, Spanish football expert, BBC sport columnist as well, because we're just going to switch to the Real Madrid side of things with Laurentino Perez, continuing as president, not a surprise game, although he was pushed maybe a little bit harder than people thought, was he? Oh yeah, he was, he was pushed. He didn't expect this. I think he still have a little annoyed about it. And he's like, well, 35 percent. That's one after three voters. Did it like whatever he was proposing? What's that about? So he has promised to look into that. What is it that these are the third needs? But it all had to do in a very clever move by the candidate and Rick and Rick Helmail, who more or less equaled everything that Laurentino wanted to bring to the club, he does a manager or players with the suggestion that Haaland and Brodery were going to come in and maybe club. The other part of the discussion was basically, Brentino stood in tension to change the way the club is run. But as you know, his assistant ticket holders are in charge of the club. He wants them to become owners of the club, share holders of the club. And to do that, he wants to sell 5 percent of Real Madrid, and that will give him an idea of what the worth, the value of the club is. But that is also an open door to private money to make Real Madrid completely different. And the other candidate was saying, no, we want the club to be for the decent ticket holders. And that is giving him one vote out of three, which is no bad. So do you think this will have long term implications then for Real Madrid? Is it wider than just who was going to be manager on which players may come in in the summer? Absolutely. I think Laurentino was fearing that the wave of opposition to his idea was growing. Even though he had three years left of his mandate, he decided to call elections because he said there was dark forces trying to interrupt what Real Madrid should be about. In fact, what he wanted was the confirmation from the season ticket holders that he can do whatever he wants to do. And the implications are short term because he's now going to organize a general assembly of season ticket holders. He's going to sell them the idea that he's going to open the door to private equity. And if that is the case, then it changes absolutely everything. Then that will have to be a referendum. And the referendum could be in the next year. And after that his idea is to leave a legacy of a Real Madrid that brings more money, but also is handed parts of it to private hands. Let's turn our attention back to the World Cup Spain in a group of Cup Verde and Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. And now saying, Luis Delafuente, that Llamín Yamal will be fit for the first game, will he? It probably play only a few minutes because he hasn't even traveled to Mexico for the friendly against Peru at 4 o'clock in the morning, Spanish time. And Nida, Niko Williams or Victor Muño, the three of them wing is very important for Spain and very, they're trying to recall from injuries. But Delafuente has told us that the three of them would be available for the first game. He may just be a matter of getting even the minutes. But by the third game, there will be much fit and could start the games even before that. We've been spending a lot of time this evening talking about friendlies, the points of them, the importance of them, what you're trying to get out of them. That actually sounds Peru in Mexico sounds actually quite a tough one. Yeah, but what do they want to get out of that? Just minutes change the atmosphere, give them a little bit of competitiveness to a group that hasn't been together for very long. The draw against Iraq was a little bit that as well, just to make the training session, if you like, on that day, with the amount of more physical work, to certain players, with more minutes to all the players. It was just about that. So nobody questions anything up to the one-one draw against Iraq. Nobody will question if we lose against Peru. I mean, it's 4 o'clock in the morning. You want to lose. But certainly, the idea is just to give more minutes that it honestly, that is such a confidence. And I just don't belong to this generation. I'm so scared. We're going to lose the first game and then what? That's how we think. But not the new hits in the book. We're going to get into the final. Don't recognize any of that. But there's a lot of confidence. Oh, but is that overconfidence, Chris? I like how I game things. I think I'm the same as game, really. Well, that's worrying for you, Chris. What a quick one on the rescue. Well, I think it's the chosen one by Manchester City to become the head coach. And as soon as the clubs have written agreement, Chelsea and Manchester City, and it seems to be getting there, then he'll start doing more work about what he's got to do. So the whole difference between, is between City and Chelsea, is it? I think there's a lot of little things. There cannot be things that people don't show perhaps because they're boring, but he means there hasn't been a full agreement yet. But they're on the verge. They're very close. All right, game. Thank you. Enjoy the World Cup, the confident. No, no, we're going to lose. That's it. Chris Conner, Jules. Thanks very much. Coming up on the next football daily, it's a special pod looking back on the Magic and Mexico 86. The 2023 Ballandor France footballer is Leonardo Missy. This is the story of the greatest rivalry in the history of sport, a rivalry that split football into two fates for a generation. There could be no, oh, Missy and Ronaldo, of both great players. They had to be one that was better. The 100 million percent pushed each other to the next level. You know, we were the lucky one to go see it. I'm Steve Crossman. This is Sporting Giants, Missy, V Ronaldo. Listen first on BBC Sounds.

Summary:
Keskustelu alkaa Shopify-mainoksella, jossa yrittäjä kehuu alustan helppoutta verkkokaupan pyörittämisessä. Tämän jälkeen siirrytään jalkapallon MM-kisojen valmistautumiseen. Puhujat analysoivat Thomas Tuchelin kommentteja Englannin harjoitusottelusta Uutta-Seelantia vastaan.
