MESSAGE TO THE PEPPERS (16 Oct)

The production team has announced a major shift in their podcast schedule, ending the short, experimental "Planet America" format that had initially performed well in terms of listener numbers. After two weeks of testing, the creators concluded that the new structure caused significant physical strain and health issues, prompting a reversal. Moving forward, they will return to a traditional weekly schedule with one long, standard-length podcast released every Friday on ABC and available across all major platforms. The Wednesday podcast will be permanently canceled, with a single catch-up episode scheduled for the next week to maintain clarity. The team has reduced output to three shows per week due to health concerns, recognizing the limits of their capacity and prioritizing well-being over volume. They also emphasize that all episodes, including the new catch-up, will be recorded with rest and recovery in mind. The "Fireside Chat" and "Planet America" podcasts will remain on separate RSS feeds to protect their archives and ensure longevity. While listener numbers were initially a focus, the decision was ultimately driven by personal health, with future merchandising planned as a long-term initiative. This shift reflects a commitment to sustainable, healthy content creation.

Hey folks, we're not getting peppy today and I want to tell you why, well first of all, hey lucky. Hey Chaz, so I'm just looking at the little timeline here, it's so short, what's going on? Oh, let me explain. Please. This is going to be real brief if you look at that timeline, there's been a little confusion lately and I'd say I wanted to reach out via a message that you guys are all going to get. That's why we're recording this and just sort this out once and for all. We dropped an experimental pod on Wednesday called the Planet America podcast and that experiment worked extremely well. If you have a look, that pod did better in terms of numbers than any pep ever by a long way. It was a huge hit so I'm glad you liked it. It proved that by splitting the three hour pod, the three plus hour pod into two shorter pods, that was probably the way to go. Dude have sunk such a thing. I know. Look, I just like to experiment because you can never be sure until you do it. So we did it and it worked. All this time your experiments have been going, well what if instead of three hours we did three and a half, four, four and a half, never did you think that you were going the wrong way? I couldn't have imagined that that would be the case but it turned out I was making them shorter, actually works, the entirety of the world is correct and that is why we are going to immediately end that pod and never do that again. Wait what? From next week lucky, we are going back to just recording normal long peps on Friday and putting them out on Saturday, the ones that don't go nearly as well as the one we recorded this week. Okay, cool, well, why are we putting you in charge of this business man? Allow me to elaborate. Oh by the way, we are still doing midweek extra is every now and then but it is not every single week. I am going to do my next week, we will get to that. Even though this strategy is clearly not successful, there is what we are going to do. So the two or three people out there who prefer super long pods, you should rejoice, you have won. The two or three people is one of them in this room. Maybe. I did kind of like the long pods but I tried, I tried the other option and it worked perfectly. No one will fault you. And succeeding and then bearing it, why, why are we bearing it? Because folks, I told you I was going to try this new regime for two weeks, well I didn't tell you it was two weeks, but I was going to try the new regime, I did try for two weeks and I discovered lucky that this new regime is an authoritarian regime. It is an authoritarian fascist regime, it is the Franco regime and it buried me in the shallow grove. What I am trying to tell you is I got very sick yesterday. When I was preparing pep, I suddenly realized, you know what, I can't do four shows a week. I have found what my limit is and it is that. Three shows a week, I reckon I can do. Four shows a week, no, not enough sleep, too much stress. And I found myself staying at exhibit physical symptoms and they were extremely unpleasant. Now I am not going to tell you what those physical symptoms were because I know we have doctors in pep and I don't want them to know because they will know how bad those symptoms were. But let me just say they were bad and they were clear and I listened to them. And so that's the reason why we are not going to be doing four shows a week, even though it was the obvious thing to do and with the highly successful, what something that makes you even more successful, lucky is living. So I am not going to do that, I am going to listen to my body, we are going back to three shows a week. That sounds like a wise choice for your health. Yes, yes. A terrible choice for listenership. Sorry folks, and sorry, well so supervisor, sorry the ABC because you guys want more listeners as well. Really your priorities aren't correct here, just because you are not thinking about the numbers. No, I am not. I have really sold out here in trying to stay on the numbers. High numbers are good, especially when it is your heart rate. Yeah, look we are not giving you any symptoms lucky. So the low heart rate would also be bad. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But look, I am not making the pod today as well, that is another thing, I have slept this morning. When I had this realization I thought you know what, stop preparing today's pod, go to sleep chairs. I did that, I went to sleep, and it was lovely, I should do that more often. So, but yeah, so Dave has agreed to come back later, like on Tuesday, we will record it when it comes out and they will be Tuesday or Wednesday or whatever, but we will record it on Tuesday, this, like this pep, and then we have the usual pep on Saturday. So we are going to have two peps next week, but one will be a catch up pep. And I will be well rested at that point in time, which is an important difference. So to avoid confusion, we are getting rid of the Wednesday podcast and to announce that you are going to do a Wednesday podcast next week. And we are also not doing two podcasts a week, except the next week when we are doing two podcasts. That clarifies everything I feel. This is communication from a man who should be in hospital. I wonder why we have never made this successful, anyway, anyway, but yes, so from now on, this is the important bit. So I have explained why we are not doing the Wednesday podcast anymore, we are not doing today's pod, but we need to just clarify what is going on from now on, because I am sick of answering questions about when we have pods and where you can find them. So let me be very, very clear from now on. The fireside chat is going to be coming out on Wednesday, every week, Friday, Friday. And you will be able to find the fireside chat everywhere, Spotify, Apple pods, wherever app you use, pocket casts to that one person who asks, sure, why not? And the listen app, the ABC would like you to use the listen app, but you can use whatever you want anywhere, it's everywhere, okay? So that's it. Just look up fireside chat. It's there every Friday on Saturday, there will be standard pep. And sometimes there will be midweek peps, but not all the time. But there will be standard pep, standard length, long peps, standard length, original recipe. Yes. It's available everywhere, except for the listen app. The videos for both will be on planet pep. Why can't they be on the same feed? Is the next question I'm going to ask a lot? The same audio RSS feed. That's right. That's right. Why? Because while pep is an ABC podcast, the ABC take responsibility for what a supervisor listens to, it is a pre-existing pod with its own feed and its own place where we got the archive, which we can't transport, we want to keep the archive and we want to keep it on its own feed and I want to keep it slightly separate, otherwise it will no longer exist even when planet America one day winds up and you know what, planet America will not be around in 30 years time, I'm not saying it's pod will, but I just don't want the two to be linked, okay? It won't be separate, so we have a bit more flexibility and it just gives us the pod a bit more security. That's all I'm saying, and so they need to be on different feeds, okay? At the end of the day, you can have two separate feeds, it's not a big deal, I do that with loads of pod cars, like big, that's not hard, so that's fine. Do you have any questions lucky before we wrap this up? This is sure, as I said. Is there merch? That's a great question and there are a couple of peppers who keep on asking this though as well, I'm glad you do, because I don't want to forget that the supervisor is aware, maybe see her aware, there isn't right now, but there will be every soon. It is a process that is going to take it as time, but at the end you'll have a nice shiny t-shirt, maybe not even shiny for the t-shirt. So I think that is it, so have a very peppy weekend, folks, and I will see you on Monday, on ABC TV with Planet America, and I don't know, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, I don't know, with the catch up pod with Dave, and then first I channeled Friday and the regular pod and Saturday, and then we're back into normal programming, and I will have slept, that's where I'm going right now. So that, stay peppy.

FAQs

The Wednesday podcast is being discontinued because the team has decided to return to a more sustainable schedule. The experimental format did not work long-term due to health concerns and scheduling challenges.

The regular 'Fireside Chat' podcast will return every Friday and be released on Saturday. There will be a catch-up episode next week, and the standard long-form episodes will resume after a two-week pause.

The host has realized that four shows per week are causing physical symptoms and stress. After evaluating his health, he has determined that three shows per week is sustainable and healthier.

Midweek episodes are rare and not a regular part of the schedule. They may happen occasionally, but they are not guaranteed.

The podcasts are on separate feeds to preserve their archives and maintain independence. This ensures both shows can continue independently even if one is discontinued in the future.

The Fireside Chat is available on all major podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Pocket Casts. The videos are available on the Planet Pep website.
