Memsie Stakes Day Preview

The Racing Previews podcast, hosted by Ben Coluzzi with Nick McWalter and Will "the Bot" Alfred, previews the Memsie Stakes, the first Group 1 of the Victorian spring carnival at Caulfield. The episode begins with a review of last week's races, notably Autumn Glow's commanding Winx Stakes victory, which showcased her professionalism and elite miler status, and Gold Coast Bowl's win, which contributed to the podcast multi's success. The team also discusses Romantic Warrior's health scare, as scans revealed a joint change, raising concerns about his historic fifth Hong Kong Cup attempt. The hosts then analyze Saturday's card, starting with early races, where they favor Enviable (race one) and note the progressive Jenny Maltabella (race two). In race three, they back Dark Bonnet and St. George, with St. George seen as value. Shadovar is a confident pick in the Cockram Stakes, while I Live Another Day is named best bet of the day in the Heath Stakes. For the Memsie Stakes, Jimmy Starr is the top selection due to his Caulfield 1400m record, with Cosmic Crusader as a saver, while Angel Capital is dismissed. Yellow Jersey is a "point and shoot" pick in the Heatherlie Stakes, and Blue Door is favored in the San Domenico Stakes. The podcast multi combines I Live Another Day and Yellow Jersey, with the team optimistic about the double. The episode closes with listener questions and a brief Melbourne Cup market update.

Speaker 4G'day punters and welcome back to the Racing Previews podcast We're excited to preview the first group one of the Victorian season We did have the first group one of the Australia on a whole last week with the Wingstakes What a fascinating clash that was and we'll get to that in review But we've got the Mems here this week And at Caulfield, 1400 metres, wait for age And to be honest it's a lot more Probably competitive is the word I'll use compared to last week Where they did look only the two chances on paper I'm Ben Coluzzi, I'm joined as always by Nick McWalter and Will the Bot Alfred Nico, how's your week been brother?
Speaker 5Yeah good mate, can't complain So the weather's starting to turn a little bit So that's always a good sign that spring's right here And that's exactly what it is on the weekend And I think it's a good sign that spring's right here Yeah it's a great day at Caulfield on the weekend I can't wait to get out there and have the first day trackside of the spring And run amok
Speaker 4Now, elephant in the room You didn't have much faith in us last week with the podcast multi
Speaker 5Have I got any faith in you this week? I don't know, I'm waiting to see
Speaker 4Mate, Julie saluted
Speaker 5About time
Speaker 4Flowers where they're due
Speaker 5Flowers where they're due It was good, do I get flowers? No, no flowers for you I didn't think so I probably could have bought you a florist with how I went last week
Speaker 4I didn't take you as a flower person bot No, I don't like flowers
Speaker 5He's definitely a Coles supermarket flower type operator No Not a florist Flowers just die So like, there's no much point of them really How did I know that was going to be your response?
Speaker 4I agree You know who doesn't agree? The missus
Speaker 5Yeah, I'm a flowers guy Anyway, shout out Liv, it is her birthday today I hope you bought her something today from the florist
Speaker 4Yeah, I got her a nice present He booked out the penthouse, didn't you? Yeah, we did stay in Crown over the weekend, which was beautiful
Speaker 6I'm not joking, it was actually the penthouse
Speaker 4It was an actual studio
Speaker 6Someone had a good weekend last week
Speaker 4It wasn't quite Tyson Hunter areas Oh, fuck that But it was probably the next level down Yeah No, it was a bloody awesome weekend Get to the end of it and you're just like, you don't want to leave You just want that to be your permanent room Nico, a podcast multi-update We've had 11 weeks with Bet364 We've won
Speaker 5The best 11 weeks of their life
Speaker 4We've won three So let's just say you had one unit every week Flat staking Flat staking What would we be up?
Speaker 5You've caught me on the hop here Let me get the spreadsheet up If you've had a single unit on every week You would have spent 11 units And you would have returned just over 18 units
Speaker 6Beautiful And that's Nico's math, by the way, so it could be off
Speaker 4No, this is completely So that's roughly a profit of Profit on turnover of 60% bots So hopefully we can keep that rolling Well, we'll see The podcast multi last week was Autumn Glow Into Gold Coast Bowl They both got the job done Let's start with the winks Autumn Glow, according to FormKing Has run a slight new career peak Of what was a genuine tempo
Speaker 6Yeah, well, she did They look like they This is the part where you're like, give me something Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay It's my job, yeah No, no, she won really well It was career peak They look like they put it on Through the mid-stages And it was Yeah, she won really well That's just Autumn Glow, though She was always gonna You know, like I said last week She's like the She's the manufactured She's so perfect at racing She's like She's so much like Animo You know, like she Wins her races Obviously because she's very, very good But also because She's such a professional And she puts herself up on speed And I don't think Like, you know It might be controversial I don't know, whatever I think she's an alibi Is a match for her for talent Maybe even a little bit better For talent And absolutely beat her third up But she's just She just pings the lid She puts herself up on speed And you know, after 200 metres That race was absolutely over She's just the professional And she's so good at racing You know, she's bought for However much she was At the yearling sale She's just the perfect racehorse And she's probably the best mile Well, between she's an alibi Probably the best two miles in the world Which is a little bit exciting With that, what's his name? The really good three-year-old Over in the UK Just pissing off to stud What's his name? Bo Echo Yeah, that one, Bo Echo Yeah, so he's gone now So we've probably You know, that's exciting in itself We've got probably the two best miles In the world Which doesn't often happen
Speaker 4And also the equal best mare in the world I think Kalpana and Autumn Glow On some ratings Are sort of equally rated As the two best mares in the world
Speaker 6Yeah, she won the King Charles And she just recently won The Yorkshire Oaks So, yeah She was second or third in the arc Last year or something like that So, yeah, no They're both very, very good And they're great for Australian racing And you know what? It's great They're going to have this rivalry Because they're both At the peak of their powers One's four, one's five And it looks like They're going to be racing At their best For the next season or two They've got no incentive To go rush off to studs So, no It's great for racing And hopefully they have Many, many more battles Yeah
Speaker 4She's alibi Was sort of half slow Away from barrier one As Bot said You sort of knew What was going to happen After a couple hundred metres She did rally late She got a She made up a little bit Of ground On Autumn Glow But it was too little too late In terms of weight for age Figures Form King 107.2 Which is slightly up On her George Ryder Of last preparation Third up She's alibi Has run a genuine Group one figure as well And Gringotts in third
Speaker 6He was excellent, wasn't he?
Speaker 4Gringotts was incredible And if they go to a big dance He can win that With weight
Speaker 6Isn't the big dance Like a restricted race For like What's Country Cup I think it's meant to be Yeah It is
Speaker 5How
Speaker 6You've got to win a country cup To qualify That is just That's not the point But good on them
Speaker 5Good on them
Speaker 6Well done
Speaker 5Poor old Lady Shenandoah Is going to have another preparation Where she's just going to be Poorly managed
Speaker 4And keep running We were talking about Lady Shenandoah On Giddy Up That she's got a bit of An identity crisis Like what What is she? Well she's just Autumn Glow light That's That's That's doing a lot of Heavy lifting Excellent way of putting it Isn't it? That light is doing A lot of heavy lifting Well she's very good She's very good
Speaker 6Her three year old season She was People were saying She was She was better than Autumn Glow And at the time That wasn't completely Well she'd won the group She'd won the group Yeah Well that's also true But you know If they Place her She's not a sprinter If they can get her Over 1400 metres Like a Rupert Clark Or something at the end of the season
Speaker 4I heard Blank's talking about that
Speaker 6Yeah well Adam Blanco said She's a Rupert Clark Oh she's a great I would love her to come for Rupert Clark So would I And I tell you what She'd look attractive In my bed slip With our friends? Obviously Where else would you bet?
Speaker 4What other good performances Were there? Gold Coast Bowl Yeah I go fraud Yeah we'll get We'll get to them all Very quickly Gold Coast Bowl Was a second leg Of the potty multi She was She was a good return It was a bit of a boat race though
Speaker 6No it was I heard a couple Bit of cult commentaries Around the ride Of Tennessee Bound Did it matter? No Like she She Smashed him I mean
Speaker 5I don't know I think something might Well maybe she's starting To get towards Her level But I don't know Something just doesn't seem Right to the eye with her At the moment I was happy that she had a sit I was happy with that And I thought Well it didn't work did it? Well she didn't win the race But that doesn't mean That it didn't work Well she ran up It didn't work on Saturday But it doesn't mean It won't work in the future
Speaker 4I don't know I don't know if she ran 1300 strong To be fair
Speaker 5It was a funny run Because a couple of times At the straight She looked like she was Going to tail out And then she was rallying again And then tailing out And rallying again I don't know It's something that seems A little bit off Maybe she's just come To the end of a relatively Longish preparation Like she's had a bit of racing So Well maybe the ceiling's
Speaker 4Been reached
Speaker 5Maybe
Speaker 6Yeah I think so I, you know, it's been, that's, that's what I was harping on about this. She's run the same rating about four times in a row, just about, and there was no indication that she was going to progress any, any further in the market. Keep the market kept, uh, projecting her to a level that I thought was beyond her. And I think, I think that, um, maybe she might get to that next preparation. She's only five, but she's, yeah, I just think she, she, she in a very good stable. She, she was a late sort of mature, or maybe she was an early mature, but she had injury and she's just sort of reached a level.
Speaker 4That's, that's the point I want to touch on. The fact that she didn't start racing too late indicates there might've been some issues there early days.
Speaker 5That's what happened with Marabi, she got to a point where she just couldn't handle it anymore. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 6Well, after a second start when she won at Cram and I was sort of thinking, oh, hell hang on, this could be the next Marabi. But she hasn't, she like that, that's her peak still, but, but you know, that, I think that might've been an on pace night at Cram. And so that would have had something to do with the rating that she ran that day. So. Anyway, but maybe she can get, get back to that.
Speaker 5There's a lot of Malone cheater on the screen as we speak. There you go.
Speaker 4Uh, two other winners, Nyako Fraud. Well, he's, it's funny. He's just been such a well-placed horse, this preparation. He's, his ratings are nothing flash, but he just keeps winning. So, which means he's, he just keeps finding the right races.
Speaker 5It was over a long way out. That was a, that was a 15 out of 10 from Malone. Yeah.
Speaker 4Yeah. Well, he puts himself up on speed and I think John was a bit disappointing.
Speaker 5And that's the thing. That's, that's what I sort of put it down to that. I thought you've got Craig Williams. Logan Bates and you trust Willow to make the right decisions over Logan and the, what the ride won the race.
Speaker 6Yeah. I mean, that's half the battle in those staying races, especially when they don't go that fast. It's just putting yourself up on speed, racing professionally and, and just running a number that if, if horses that are behind you can't improve off, you know, think giant is, you know, he's only lightly raced. He's relatively immature. He just was throwing his head around after he got a check and he, he couldn't settle back on the rail. And, and, uh, yeah. And as well, he was, he was a pretty, you know, he was heavily supportive throughout the week, but in the sort of half an hour before the race, I think, I think he paraded a little bit negatively as well. So, um, that, I think that he was a light drifter. I think he got out to four or $5 late when he was sort of, you know, backed into as short as like three, three 20 or something. So, um, he just needs to iron out those Kings, but if, if he can, I think he, you know, for talent, he might be just as good as Nyako fraud, but Nyako frauds the, uh, he's, he's, he's the professional.
Speaker 4Does he go out for a spell now? Have you heard anything about Nyako fraud? No, they'll go to the archer. So they are going to try and get him into a cup potentially.
Speaker 6Well, but yeah, he, yeah, I mean, he might, but it depends if, if there's a, you know, a different form line, but he'd have to be at the top of the market. He's won four in a row now. And, you know, as I said, he's a professional, so he's going to be up there in the firing line and, um, you know, he has to hold his place in the market when, you know, whether, whether it'd be favorite on, I'm not sure. Like he's, he's not, he's not set a very high bar. But he'll hit that number. And if not, if anything, if anything can't eclipse that number, then he'll probably win again.
Speaker 4The other horse was a cavalry girl. Who's another one who's put up a real picket fence. She was held up in behind runners for a large majority of that sort of early part of the straight, but, um, she got the gap and she was a little bit too good. But in your, in the article that you wrote for Betsy, but you're saying, um, she's well short for a more mistakes next up.
Speaker 6Yeah. And that's the thing. Like she won really well. She had a. Um, although she was held up at, at certain stages throughout the run, that was the place to be, especially out of the shoot thousand meters that we had to be the inside making a looping run. Wasn't the place to be at all. So, um, yeah, I mean, she ran 96.5 on the weight for age scale, uh, off the top of my head and no, no, that's not a more winning number. Um, natural fling around about 98.9, 99 thereabouts anyway. And obviously she'll improve off that first up running the closet. Um, and then there's, I, I wrote in the article as well that there's a, there's a gray Philly. Uh, John, I like saying Philly adds to the theater of it all European snob. Yeah. Um, glad my gladiola who was second to 10 tires in the lightning and correct me if I'm wrong, but the early price has been snipped up though. Hasn't it? Like it's, um, it's about $7. Oh, okay. I thought, I thought it was into like $8. Oh, is it still? Yep. Oh, okay. Well, yeah, like I'm. More, which is a futures player, but, um, you could tempt that pro if she's $8 on, on more data, I'll be pretty confetti.
Speaker 5Cause I think natural flings of moral.
Speaker 6Yeah. I mean, I think, I think that if she's $8 on, on more day, then, um, she'll, she'll be in again.
Speaker 5I'm allowed to sit here and sit pretty cause I'm on natural fling at 10 to one.
Speaker 6So I actually don't think a thousand meters of natural, I think a thousand meters, a natural thing is a genuine query.
Speaker 4Well, the other thing is it'll get to Wednesday of more stakes week. There's 14 horses. There's 14 barriers that, that will come into it as well. And the actual thing puts herself on pace.
Speaker 5They go, they'll go like Oakley plate is in a Moira and they'll, and she'll sit behind it. She's going to have 50 and a half kilos on her back and it'll be Tata hopefully line up and collect Siri.
Speaker 6Well, I saw, I saw Dan, I had a running one or two in the closet and, um, Dave was a little bit lower. So, you know, there's, there's lots of different ways you can skin the cat. So the, the, the, the truth probably lies somewhere in between, but, um, yeah, I mean, I, like, I think she's probably going to go off like inside two to one. I'd say maybe a little bit bigger than that.
Speaker 4I don't know, but I don't think she's going to go off inside two to one natural phone.
Speaker 6Like she, she's a three-year-old Philly. Like I just started like six bucks last year off absolutely no form whatsoever. I think I marked a 30 to one last year. Um, so yeah, there seems a lot more substance with natural fling. There does, but that's the thing. I think she's a 1200 meter horse, a thousand meters thing.
Speaker 4Um, two performances in Sydney, Pembrey. And King of the Sea. So the King of the Sea, um,
Speaker 5I've got a, I've got a question here from a listener. We'll just, while we're on the King of Sea, we'll go, uh, Jerry from Bendigo is asking, did Will back King of the Sea or does he sleep with the light on? If you tip it, you've got to back it.
Speaker 6No, I don't, I don't, I sleep, I sleep with the light on. I don't, I don't bet all in's at all. So I just give out all that I know and I'm happy to give the tip, but I don't do anything.
Speaker 4For those, for those listeners. Only just sort of tuning into our podcast the last couple of weeks, which has gone up since, since the partnership started with Bet365, but rarely bets in Sydney as well. Would you say 99% of your betting is in? Oh yeah.
Speaker 6I haven't had, I couldn't tell you. He's had one bet in Sydney since we've known him. I couldn't tell you the last time I bet in Sydney. Did you back Gessie House in the slipper that day?
Speaker 5No, no, no, but there's a lot going on from the owners and I celebrated like I owned it. Fair enough. There's a lot, the thing that he did back in Sydney last time did win it like six or seven. I can't remember. When you tip in Sydney, you do well. It was early, early in a card one day, about six or seven dollars anyway.
Speaker 4King of the sea. You did say this is a Caulfield cup horse beforehand. Nico, what price did you get for the cups?
Speaker 5I took 40 ones, but it was $51 available when we did the podcast.
Speaker 4Was there really? And you took some Metrop as well.
Speaker 5Yeah. I've taken $26 in the Metrop and he's six dollar favourites.
Speaker 4Wow. So I've, I've only taken myself. I've got 20 ones in the Caulfield cup and 750 in the Metrop after the win. I just wanted to wait and see it first. And, but. Tell us what he did. Cause it was impressive, even though it was only a benchmark 78.
Speaker 6Well, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think that the most telling thing out of all was the market support for him over 600 meters, which is obviously he's not preferred trippy. He's a mile and a half horse. Um, he sprinted. Uh, really, really well. I think I, well, I don't want to, uh, say anything untoward, but I, I think the Adam Faraha was the jockey, Brian, I gave him his three starts prior. Yeah, J-Mac big, big. I'd tell you, yeah, he, he, um. Uh, created, um, some problems for King of the sea that probably didn't need to occur. And then J-Mac jumped on and, and, um, you know, he's a really, really nice horse. And I genuinely think he's a, especially if we don't get any international Raiders, uh, that are too worrisome and there's not, there's no like progressive, you know, three or four year olds that come over and then just have a mortgage on the Caulfield cup. I genuinely think he'd probably start inside $10.
Speaker 4Yeah. Well, people forget like a lot of these horses, like he. Yeah. He is an international who came here and who's, yeah, maybe, maybe, um, he was given some really poor rides early days, but he's, he's really improving weight for age number of 94.5, which is very good going in a race like that.
Speaker 6And I think he'll get to that sort of a hundred mark and then accounting for, uh, the weight that he'll get on the day. Like he'll, he'll win his way in. Yeah. Well, half yours, I think.
Speaker 4Half yours' figure last year was like 99.5 weight adjusted in the Caulfield cup. It wasn't his best performance. Yeah.
Speaker 6And he got low on the weights. What did he carry last year? It was about 52. 52, 50, 53, 53. Oh, he might get it on the minimum. Yeah. And so I think you get.
Speaker 5It's all good and well, these bets look very, very good right now, but a lot still has to go right. Well. To A, get to the race and B, to get paid.
Speaker 4He's got to, he's got to win his way in, but he looks, he looks one for sure.
Speaker 5I just really hope they go to a Metrop because you go to a Metrop, you win a Metrop, you're into the Caulfield cup.
Speaker 4Yeah. It's either that or the naturalism, but it sounds like they're going to the Metrop.
Speaker 5Don't, don't speak it into existence, Ben.
Speaker 6Well, if you go to the Metrop, then, then, then, then they carry the weight. They get extra weight. They get a weight penalty, don't they?
Speaker 5Oh, a small penalty, but. Yeah. What's, what's. He can still win both.
Speaker 6Yeah. I don't know.
Speaker 5I didn't, I didn't, my bet that I've had in the Caulfield cup to the bet that I've had in the Metrop, uh, very much, very much smaller in the Metrop.
Speaker 4There's no interest like self-interest.
Speaker 5Well, no, because there's, there's a possibility that they think they don't want to go to the Metrop, win that, get too much weight for a Caulfield cup. They'll go win a naturalism. And you don't go to a Metrop. Like half yours last year. Like half yours last year.
Speaker 4Too good for a Metrop. Well. They probably. Prove to be right.
Speaker 6I don't have a ticket at all. I'll just be cheering on my ego. Yeah. Don't worry.
Speaker 5I'll buy you a couple of drinks if it wins. And the rest.
Speaker 4Imagine tipping a horse at 50 to one and not having a cent on it and still getting satisfaction.
Speaker 6Well, let's just. We'll never hear the end of it. I'm just a. Never, ever, ever hear the end of it. I'm just a giver. I'm just a giver.
Speaker 4Whoa. Whoa. Oh boy. Hi. No, Jono's not on. Who's the soundboard? Silver Shadow. Oh boy. 101.3 weight for age rating by Pembry. I had something on Bangkok Hottie. She's run a clear second. I thought she ran a great race, but she's just bumped into what is the best three-year-old rating performance of the season so far.
Speaker 6Yeah. And you know that that might be only momentarily, of course, like the better three-year-olds will appear in the next sort of couple of weeks.
Speaker 4Okay. Pembry or Natural Fling? Who would you rather own at this stage?
Speaker 6Um, Natural Fling, because it's going to go to the Moyan. It's a big chance of winning. I don't know. What are they going to do with Pembry?
Speaker 5Pembry was good last week, but she was excellent. She was very good. I want to say it again. I'm not saying that it wasn't real, but I'm saying. She might taper off. Well. What, Natural Fling won't? No. Well. I've got an alliance to Natural Fling. Natural Fling. Natural Fling. Natural Fling. But I just want to see the Pembry one again.
Speaker 4This is a very big number.
Speaker 5Because that could be a spike and an island that she never gets back to. I think she's very good. I don't know. I think they're both very good, but I want to see Pembry do it again.
Speaker 4Right now, it's advantage the girls over the boys of what we've seen so far. We still need to see.
Speaker 5It's funny we said that. I mentioned it the other week about Natural, like the next episode has to come back out because the Natural Fling's come out and she's improved.
Speaker 4Well, we'll see what Guesthouse does this week and also Warwoven.
Speaker 5Yeah.
Speaker 4But right now the girls have been.
Speaker 5The girls have improved. So the boys wouldn't want to go. They wouldn't want to come out thinking that it's a fait accompli because they might have a reality check.
Speaker 4They might. That's what the betting's saying anyway. We'll get to that race very shortly. Happy to move on?
Speaker 5Yep.
Speaker 4One more in Melbourne. You skipped over. Who did I skip over?
Speaker 6Bucklew. Oh yeah, very good. He ran a massive rating first up. He's had a tieback surgery I heard on broadcast. I did hear that.
Speaker 5And it's. That was all kept very hush, but it makes sense why he underperformed last preparation.
Speaker 6Well, tieback surgeries can go one of two ways. Could have been a blessing. Could have been a blessing. Could have been a blessing that Cruiserweight got scratched. Yeah. Well, I, you know, you would have done your dough because there was no way he was running a number that was beating that horse.
Speaker 4This horse has always had talent.
Speaker 6He beat Observer. I remember. He's got a scalpel of Observer.
Speaker 5In saying that, in saying that, Cruiserweight's win at Caulfield was still rated better than what Bucklew put down last week. No, it wasn't. No. The ratings that I had a look at, that was still the case. What ratings? Someone that I'd spoken to with some ratings. Okay. Well, ratings are different. There are plenty of ratings out there. It would have been interesting.
Speaker 4Early days, early days we were speaking of Bucklew, like, um, he was cherry, cherry tall Tony 2.0 and he might've, he might be even better than him.
Speaker 6Well, he knocked me off an Observer that day when I had a, after I declared Observer the, the, the second coming. And then. Did Bucklew beat him at Sandia? No, he won at Sandia. Then he went to a, I think it was a mile, uh, race for two year olds. And then I had an enormous bet on Observer cause I had this massive opinion on him. And then I just. Nothing still changed. No, nothing changed at all. But he just, he fell out the back of the screen and Bucklew knocked him off. And God, that was a, that was a dark sort of five minutes after the race.
Speaker 4So, so what can Bucklew do this preparation?
Speaker 6Well, I, I think the thing is he's trained well, the two rack is his race, but, but Patty Payne trains him. So the, the, the likely thing is that happens is that he will, he will just pick off a couple of benchmark who go to, he's only rated, that was a 78 on Saturday, so he can go out to a, an 80 or 90 and he will just win his way through the grades, whether he ends up in a two rack or not.
Speaker 5I think he's more, more likely to win like a Kunji or a Ballarat cup than a two rack.
Speaker 6Yeah.
Speaker 5I think, I think, I think a mile is his troop. What's the. He showed plenty of speed on the weekend. Is it a Victoria handicap at the back end of spring? Yeah. I think that's a mile. Yeah. That's probably his race. I don't think he's good enough to be a two rack.
Speaker 4Or a Victoria handicap 2000 or a mile?
Speaker 5There's a mile race listed, mile listed race at the back end of the carnival. Yeah.
Speaker 6And you know, he, he's a, he's a nice horse. So the two rack this year, Planet Red and, uh, Sabaj are the two favorites now. They're decent favorites, but it's not, it's, I don't think it's shaping up like it's going to be a vintage two rack. So if there's one that can be on the minimum and win it, I'd say he's, he's a, he's a good
Speaker 4chance at it. Yep. All right. That's the review done. The only other piece of news I wanted to touch on is, uh, Romantic Warrior. There was a bit of a press statement. Um, good horse press statement. Uh, there was a bit of a press release that got sent out last night. The club's, uh, Department of Veterinary Clinical Service has provided advice from Romantic Warrior that the club wishes to share with his many fans. Consistent with the club's world-class procedures for the care of our racehorses, Romantic Warrior has undergone detailed physical examinations, including the use of state-of-the-art imaging equipment, uh, uh, which is basically scanning. At our veterinary hospital, the proactive screening has revealed a change in one of the horse's joints and requires further detailed assessment by the team. So basically not all. is right with the health of Romantic Warrior. Hopefully he comes good. He is searching for a historic fifth consecutive Hong Kong Cup in December, which is a feat that has never been done and likely will never be done again. He's already got the four in a row, but hopefully we can see him back on track very soon. Absolutely.
Speaker 6I saw that message and I thought he carked it, which I was very sad about, but then I figured that he didn't, so that was good.
Speaker 5Yeah, well, who knows what's going to play out, but you think they're probably going to eye it on the side of caution with him, but hopefully it's not the end. Yeah.
Speaker 4I mean, he's a gelding, so it's not like there's anything to protect him from afterlife, but you still- No, but you also don't want to see him getting beaten by horses far and furious. 100%. You want to retire him off to a nice, lush, green field in maybe mainland China. Living legends, maybe. In good health. True, they could come to Australia. A lot of the good Hong Kong horses do. Any other news? I'm sure J-Mac would love to have him in his
Speaker 5backyard at Von Kloos. Yeah. J-Mac would probably buy a farm just to have Romantic Warrior with him.
Speaker 4Jay, it's a good view they've got from Von Kloos. It's the rich part of Sydney and it's looking over the Harbour Bridge.
Speaker 5Fit for the king.
Speaker 4Fit for a king and yeah, plenty of-
Speaker 5You've been to his pad, haven't you, when you did the stuff with Moonee Valley?
Speaker 4Yeah, I had the chance to go and interview J-Mac at his house when I was with him in Moonee Valley. And gee, it was an experience. Pretty cool. Fair trophy, cabinet. Um, speaking of name dropping, uh, Gareth Hall, we had a quick dinner with tonight where we are planning some things in the process. We've just got to see- It was a good chat with Jay tonight. It was good. We appreciate him coming out for dinner with us mere mortals and hopefully we can figure something out in the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 5Yeah, some stuff, um, some stuff in the pipelines, hopefully, that we can get over the line and hopefully, you know, in a week or two's time, we'll have a little bit more information for you, but, um- Yeah, hopefully this is, uh, the first step into this sort of sphere that we're going to take and hopefully it won't be our last, so, um, yeah, can't say too much just yet, but, um, stay posted. Hopefully we've got some good news for you in a couple of weeks. Beautiful.
Speaker 4All right, let's move on. Uh, Caulfield this weekend, we've got, currently it's a heavy eight track. It's certainly going to improve over the next couple of days. Rail four meters. But what's your, what's your weatherman telling you?
Speaker 6Um, look, uh, yeah, rails at four, the, there's a light, gentle sort of southwesterly, southwesterly. So that's obviously a tailwind for the, out of the chute, so maybe, you know, it's, it's not much of a tailwind at all, but you know, it can be only beneficial for the, the on paces there, so yeah.
Speaker 4Sweet. What, uh, what races do you want to start in? We can start in the first race. All right. I didn't really want to start in the first race. Okay, I'll just do it quickly then. Race number one, it is over 14 minutes. 1400 meters, it is a handicap and it's $5. The field for the Phillies and mayors. Benchmark 78 stealth of night, five bucks from Davidoff 550 button up princess has seen some good support, $7.50 and enviable has been $9 into $7.50 in this bet. Three, six, five market. Who are you backing?
Speaker 6If any, um, well, I thought the Salazoo was, was a chance to improve after, you know, I think the place to be was the rail that day at Flemington. Uh, the, the day that stage and screen one, um, can map sort of just by default sort of midfield. And I thought it was slightly more likely than what the market's suggesting right now. Stealth of nights had about 50 days since the last run at a trial between. Um, and, and I think stealth of nights, a horse that we haven't seen the best of yet. So I think the market's also projecting that, but I think, I think the thing is about the right price to Vita one really well over a mile last time at the Caulfield Heath, uh, Blake Shin stays on, but I, I think it's, it'll improve back to 400 meters. I think it quite ran a mile, even though it won. Um. Yeah. Enviable, I think you half liked Nico. Yeah, I do. Yeah. Um, I commit, correct me if I'm wrong, but that, that day ran Rose Hill was the day that it was heavily inside. Yeah.
Speaker 5She sat one, one and just, you had to be fence on fire, although she was disappointing, but, um, yeah, it was still just not the place you wanted to be on the day. Yeah.
Speaker 6For me, enviable. I think she's looking for a mile and a quarter now. I think she's, she's looking for 2000 and she gets J map, which is a positive. She'd been well backed in early markets. So. That's a little bit of a push, but you know, I, I just think maybe envy was a horse that we can back maybe a fourth up. maybe even fifth that way she gets out in distance because I think that's what she's looking for.
Speaker 4Has there been an issue with stealth of night or is she fine, just missed a run, they scratched and now she's had to jump out?
Speaker 6I couldn't tell you, but I mean, I'd say that maybe it was something because there's been 49 days between runs, but she jumped out well. So, you know, she seems happy and healthy. So there's no qualms there, but, you know, I think she's about a 550 chance and that's about what the market's saying. So, yeah, if I was going to give you a push right now, it'd be Salazou. Yep.
Speaker 5And you're enviable. Yeah, I'm enviable. For giving a good horse one bad run, $2.50 SP last time and tailed off to finish last when she sat in the 1-1. You needed to be on the fence. She still was disappointing regardless of the track bias, but yeah, the stewards report showed nothing. She's trialed in between, which she had to for the stewards and she trialed well, led the trial, jumped well, was in front. J-Mac had a Fort Nelson on her. A few. A few horses just passed her late. She was literally there just to have a bit of work. That was it. You could see that pretty easily in the, watching the trial. So I'm just putting it down to, she was, she's a good horse. Who's had a bad day, which they can, they're animals. And yeah, I'm really happy to back her. I think a little bit of cut in the track's fine. I think she's the best horse in this race at her best and you're getting $8 to find out. So I was thinking, do I back her? It's straight out, do I back her each way? And I'm just going to back her straight out. I couldn't talk you out of backing her each way, but to me, I would rather just have a bet on her to win because I think it's going to be one of those races where she's either going to win or she might finish out the back and they might shut up shop for the preparation. So rather than launching into this race in the first, you know, having a one by three, which is a rather significant bet when you're going to be heavily invested, it's not really a race that I want to get that deeply into it. I just want to have something on her to win because I think she's a good price at $8 rather than pile in and look at a strip out in the first if she does underperform.
Speaker 4Yeah, maybe just a one unit job or a half a unit. Yeah, that's what I'm doing. Caulfield and Rose Hill, you might be able to get $9 because first six races at both tracks, we got our 25% winnings plus boost, which we know and love. Race two, 1800 metre benchmark, 78. Jenny Maltabella, $3.20. Looks a progressive horse getting out in trip from Blue Willow, $4.80. McDane, $7.00. And Amleto is $8.50. They have chipped away at both Jenny Maltabella and Amleto here on this Wednesday. Will, you could have potentially something on the favourite.
Speaker 6Yeah, I really like this mare. She made her debut at Sale ages ago and looked like an Oaks filly. And that race rated really, really well. Polygot was behind her. Obviously, he's a nice horse now, but has had obviously had issues with that. 500 days between run into a second start and then, you know, 200 days again into a next preparation. But she's progressed nicely this campaign. She was really good first up at Sale and then won at Sandown. I was drifted in the bedding there, but won nicely. And then she was wide the trip at the Caulfield Heath and then kept coming to DeVita. I think she's looking for this distance now and I think she might be able to maybe even roll forward. Um, fourth up. Price is a little bit short now. I'd love, I'd love to back her. I don't know if she'll be well fancy. Maybe if you get $4, I think I'd love to be on Jenny Maltz-Beller. Um, but yeah, other than that, um, Federer is a little bit interesting too. Maybe he can push forward from a third up with Ethan Brown going to the saddle and Autumn. But finding a few of these Halo racing horses that are half in the chair.
Speaker 5Yeah. Dangerous time. Well, that's, that's my go.
Speaker 4That's your go. What'd you make of Blue Willow's last start win?
Speaker 6They're right. It's so confusing. Like they came down the outside fence. They went ridiculously hard. Um, it's, it's a, it's a piece of form that I am very cautious about because how many races will be run in that sort of manner? Not, not many. Like how often are you going to go that hard on track that fucked?
Speaker 7Yeah.
Speaker 6And, um, yeah. Um, you know, it's, it's a piece of form and it was a good win in the rated. Well, but how, how, how much can you actually interpret that and, and use that into future? JJ just, he judged it well that day.
Speaker 4He was absolutely swinging off the horse. He reckons he slaughtered it too. Yeah. Post-race. I, I don't agree with that. I thought it was perfectly positioned and just sort of dropped on them when it counted. Let's move on to race number three. Open handicap, 2000 meters, dark Bonnet, $2.80. The Caulfield cup has been spruced after, um, he won his last start. Impressively lit steel, $7. St. George is $8. Now when they last met, I do believe St. George got the better of dark Bonnet at Flemington. Star of India, $10 and chocolates is also $10. For me, this, this race is as simple as we back dark Bonnet, maybe it's a little bit short at the moment, but I was really impressed with what it did last time around. Um, look, the race worked out perfectly for it, but over a mile, which is probably short of its best. It just. Absolutely donkey licked them. Um, still gets in light of the weights now with Jamie on board 54 and a half should map, uh, sweetly from barrier five and it should be just about not quite a peak fitness, but just about getting there third up. And it obviously needs to win its next start to make the Caulfield cup field. So I'm with dark Bonnet. I'm going to have something on and I'll have a saver on St. George who I thought the query was, um, slowish ground last time around. It probably. The, the, the track speed probably wasn't as slow as what it was on the day, but I still thought he was last up performance was excellent and we've seen him carry weight in the past. So I think it's a dead set back one and save the other $2, 80 and $8.
Speaker 6Well, yeah, the favorite favorites. Very good. Obviously, um, one really nicely last time you have to factor in that it carried about nine kilos, uh, less than light infantry, man. And, and bet seven lesson just so you had a massive weight advantage carried 53. Uh, really nice horse. And I think you can, you can get it going to a level much better than what it has done thus far. I think, I think projecting to a career peak is, is completely reasonable, but to have it inside two to one, you very much have to do so. Uh, it'll yeah, I couldn't, I couldn't back it now. I'd love to. I really like this horse. I've, I've always had a, had a good opinion of this horse, but I just think it's, it's too short and you probably can't back it. Um, the one that I thought was a little bit interesting was machine gun. Gracie who, um, can improve significantly once it has a run, I was outpaced over a mile last time. Um, I think it can roll, it can roll forward and it ran a really nice number. Uh, in the epona stakes against mares, um, second up last preparation at Rose Hill. Um, you know, this is a good horse. It was heavily backed in the Sydney cup. One more next time. I reckon. Yeah. I mean, it can roll forward. I'll give it a chance. I think I marked it $10. It's $15. So, I mean, if I was going to be pushed into having a bet in this race, it'd be that way.
Speaker 5I'm really keen to have a bet here. What are you like? I'm on St. George. I think it's the best value of the day for the gray. I think he's Caulfield form reads a bit inconclusive. So I'll just bring up his Caulfield form for you. So he's had two starts at Caulfield. He was beaten eighth of 10 in a 1700 meter listed race, beaten 1.8 links to rise at dawn with an SP of $12, the following start, he stepped to 2000 meters in a group three. And was beaten, ran fourth of 15, beaten 0.3 links. So he's form might read two, two starts for two duck eggs, but that's a bit misleading when you break it down and have a look at the form like that. I think he definitely does go better at Flemington, but I think Caulfield's fine. I think, I think he's just far too big in the market here. I think rock hard fit third up dominant win last time gets Mark Zara, which is only a positive. Emily Posman did nothing wrong on the horse. Last time, but obviously Mark Zara, Emily Posman is a, is a jockey upgrade. And I think one by three, you will not miss dark. Benny is the progressive horse with no weight, but I'm not completely sold just yet. Um, so yeah, I'm, I'm really keen to back. St. George one by three, the current quote. And I think, I think it might get close to three 50 dark beneath, so I'll have something on him small on the weekend as to, um, still level up the book a little bit, but, um, yeah, I always thought it was a great, great race to get involved with St. George and I think he's a great bit.
Speaker 4It sounds like we're singing from the same hymn book in many respects now, but I've got to add you to the listeners a little bit because there was a podcast multi a couple of weeks ago that we should have got out me.
Speaker 6It was your fault.
Speaker 5I took natural fling. Nico took, no, it was your fault.
Speaker 6What was it?
Speaker 5No, you were telling me you took educated.
Speaker 6Yeah. But you were telling me I couldn't take dark when it, no, we
Speaker 4weren't saying you did come on, go back and check the messages.
Speaker 5You wanted to get the receipts. I'll post.
Speaker 4I'll post it on Twitter. You changed. It's always, you changed from dark bunny to educated. Now, to be fair, there was a dominant favorite in that first chorus. First chorus was the favorite in that dark bunny race, which, but he
Speaker 5was potting first chorus in anyway. So that, that has no merit to his, to his argument. He said, it'll be first course.
Speaker 4Anyway, but you can't, you can't put it on us. You change, you change your multi-selection wanted to be, wanted to
Speaker 5be it's happened, it's happened to the best of us. It happened to me.
Speaker 4I took bloody... I think we've got to make a rule. You say it out loud and you put it in the group chat. This is my podcast multi-selection. Here we go.
Speaker 6Who was that arrow field horse that I said, I said, dark bunny. And then you, and then Ben said an emoji where it's like the eyes rolling. And then, and then you said, first chorus is just going to win. And I said, nope.
Speaker 4Yep. Yeah. And then you changed your mind. Yeah. No, no, just own it. Just own it. No, just own it. It's your responsibility. Even if I disagree with you, to be fair.
Speaker 5Who was that arrow field horse that you would pot me about the other week? A Vista? Columbus. No, Columbus. Yeah. I was always picking, um, touchdown and I said, nah, nah, nah, I'll pick Columbus.
Speaker 4That was meant to be our SAS appeal and touchdown one. Yeah. And you changed. Yeah.
Speaker 5Anyway. Hero.
Speaker 4The podcast multi should be up even more than a bit.
Speaker 5Columbus, Columbus has never recovered. No, he hasn't. Christopher.
Speaker 4All right. Let's move on to race number four. And interesting race because two of the horses really in contention in betting are emergencies. This is a benchmark 84. Over 1400 meters. Cruiserweight $2.70. He is third emergency. Uh, it is zero $5 recuperado $8. And then Victoria spirit is also emergency. I think he's third emergency or second emergency. Interesting. Cruiserweight. What happened last week? I was about to play football and he got scratched at the gates. I believe. Yeah.
Speaker 6He knocked his head or something, had blood. And obviously as a precaution, they, uh, scratched him just in case it was internal, but obviously it wasn't. He's back at the races. So yeah, a bit short now, I think, but very obviously right. Favorite. Do you treat that as a negative or just treat it as nothing? No, it's just nothing. I would like.
Speaker 5They scoped him on, he galloped on the Monday and Johnny O'Neill said he was fine.
Speaker 6So yeah, I mean, it's an, it's an extra week, which is, isn't necessarily ideal, but he's in great hands with the Hayes boys. So I wouldn't, I wouldn't, I wouldn't treat it as, as, as anything. And he was heavily supported last week. I don't think he would have beaten Buckley, but, um, the, the rate of attrition of these
Speaker 4benchmark 84s. Is he usually quite significant? Like we think he'll get a run. Do we think he will get a run with three scratchings? He should.
Speaker 5Maybe. Let's hope. We'll find out. I'm with him if he does. Um, yeah, I want to be with him. I don't think it's a point and shoot army job or anything like that. I think it's just a nice bet. Comfortable bet. Nothing silly. Won't be completely crying if it loses. I wouldn't be completely happy either, but, um, yeah, I just think it's a good bet. You know, I'm just a little bit cautious. Cause there's been a few. Things that have happened now with this horse, you know, he's had a break in between runs little setback last week. Um, they're just little things to take in mind. You know, I think there's some other bets we're about to have at $2.50 that I'm keen on. Absolutely keen on.
Speaker 4So yeah, I was going to back him last week. Um, I, I probably will come around to backing him, but as you said it, there are just so many good bets on Saturday and this one won't be one of my better ones. But what are your thoughts?
Speaker 6Uh, he's a bit short. I think, um, it'd be interesting if he didn't draw 18 and Daniel was on no offense. Daniel, um, he was poor last time, but I couldn't think he can prove up to 1400 meters. Um, yeah, yeah, I didn't really have much of an opinion at all.
Speaker 4If you want to find our commentary on cruiserweight, you can find it all on last week's podcast. Basically we thought he obviously did run poor last time around, but, uh, he can bounce back. He's a pretty good horse. Uh, we move on. We move on to race five and this is the courts of stakes. Do you remember what this used to be called, Bob? No.
Speaker 6Um, cause it, uh, not the quiz that, um, the, oh God, um, probably, probably won it about three times. What was it? What's it called?
Speaker 4Was it the Balmain? It was a Crockett. The Crockett. Sorry. Sorry. Yeah, it was the Crockett. 1200 meters. Um, and it is for obviously the mares four year old plus. Shadavar is our $2.70 favorite. I think it's gone for four straight victories from custom $6. Disappointed last time as the deep odds on favorite. Bell Chevelle was the early favorite in some all in markets. $8.50. Rotaritaki has been a little bit of a drifter. $9.00 and Photograph is 11s. Salty Pearls also had some good early support. The traders got it wrong. Went up 17s. That looked a little bit big. It's now 12. Look, I'm, I'm very keen on Shadavar. Um, I've taken $5.00 all in, which wasn't with our friends. Our friends don't do a group two, group three markets.
Speaker 5We've got a couple of things actually we want to speak to Zach about. Yeah. I would like to have more futures. Like this, like as, as it gets to a Monday of race week, I would like to have more, um. All in markets. More all in markets. Place betting. And my biggest pet peeve with our friends. If you have a bet and it's. I don't even mean to our friends. No, it's, it's nothing bad, but with other bookmakers. It's constructive. With other, with other bookmakers. Feedback. If you, if you have a bet and say, say you have a multi and you lose the first leg or the second leg, it vanishes out of your best sleep. This isn't the works. This isn't the works. I don't like how it sits in your pending.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 5If it's a losing bet. Get rid of it. I don't want to see that anymore.
Speaker 4Just please put it away. We don't want reminders that we're no good at betting.
Speaker 5Yeah. Um, so in, in the unlikely event that I am wrong sometimes, I want it out. It doesn't happen often, but the times that it does happen, it hurts me to see it there. Yeah. There's like a red cross on it and it just stays there in your pending. Just a constant reminder of that. Constant reminder of.
Speaker 4That time that I was unfortunately wrong. Yeah. You spent 200 bucks on that multi, remember? And it's been beat.
Speaker 5So that's my, that's something that I probably could have waited for off air, but.
Speaker 4Maybe this time last week, I was just getting back from Sydney and I was in Sydney to talk to a lot of the Bet365 traders. And these were some of the things we were discussing to make the app better. Anyway, back to matters at hand. Shadovar. Um, if you could have picked a barrier for this man to draw in a big field, you would have chosen barrier one. She's all speed. She's going to lead here. I think she gets the front quite easily. Um, she's had the run under the belt. She already had, um, you know, quite good. Residual fitness cause she didn't have a massive break over from Adelaide and we know she's a fast mare. She won the regal roller and I was able to get $5 all in because I, I knew that a few horses were going to, uh, the heath stakes, which was race six, including the likes of Inca Runa, um, and also Bridal Waltz, which meant this horse was always going to start quite short. She's probably short enough now into her right price, but, um, the, the last couple of ratings have been good. And I just think she's going to lead. I think she's going to lead them a merry dance and some of these might want further, but
Speaker 6yeah, it's shadow. I was one of those ones where I can't get short, but I, I know that it's very well placed and it will lead and, um, I mean, it's way too short, but I understand why it is. So I'll just leave the race. Got no, don't care at all. Yep.
Speaker 5I think shadow of our win. I think it's, um, it's a bit more confident than the cruiserweight bet. Um, I think. Um, it's probably the right price. You know, you'll get close to $3 with the 25% boost with our friends. And, um, I think that's a nice, nice ticket to have. I think it'd be a good, good price. Um, should give you a good run for your money. It looks very, very hard to beat. I would have thought. So, um, yeah, it's probably got a few grades in, in hand here versus a few that are probably just going to keep racing each other. So yeah, I think shadow of ours, a good bet. Um, looks hard to beat.
Speaker 4But what did you make of custom and, um, her last up performance?
Speaker 6I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 5There was no, she gets claustrophobic apparently. I'm not taking, I'm not taking the piss. I'm being serious. She doesn't like racing inside the horses. That's a bit of a problem on what I thought, but.
Speaker 6Well, I don't know about that, but yeah, maybe she was a little bit disappointed. I mean, if she runs to the number, she was only okay. Yeah. I mean, she was pretty bad.
Speaker 5Do you believe in that?
Speaker 6I don't know. I don't know if horses get, I mean, maybe they do get claustrophobic, but do you get
Speaker 5claustrophobic?
Speaker 6Um, I've never been really like, I don't know. Do you want to find out? It's a weird question to ask another bloke, but, um, no, no, thanks.
Speaker 5Let's move on. Where's Jono's O-Boisting over here?
Speaker 4Belle Chevelle, she's probably the best horse in this race. She won a winery at the end of last preparation. I do think 1200 is.
Speaker 5She was expressed that day. Yeah, she was.
Speaker 4I think 1200 is probably on the short side. For her, but you know, in her, she's, she's got like a second to well written where she probably should have won on protest. She's a very nice animal. I think she's better over a mile plus. Um, a horse I do think will run well here is Bossy Benita. I wish she had a, had a drawing a little bit better, but she's $17. I could have something small on her. I think she is a little bit better at 1400. Um, but she's been jumping out well too. All right. The last race before the quaddie legs is the Heath. It is 1100 meters. And I believe it is a group three. Race I live another day is our $2.50 favorite from bridal waltz, $4. War machines getting out to a big price, $6. He opened fives from recommendation. Now this horse went up 17. He's now $9. I don't understand the love for him, but he will run well. He'll probably want to run an honest fifth in Karuna is $12. Some hope. And the bird rack is $15. Interesting race, because you look at 11 other days form, you look at his ratings and you probably think. $2. 50 isn't justified. It looks very short, but I think there's still a lot of progression in this horse's preparation. He's winning races. He's putting up big margins. He's doing it on good tracks. He's doing it on heavy tracks. Um, he should map to be either. I don't think you'll lead here. I think you'll just drop right into that box seat from barrier one, which should just work out perfect. And it's a heavy eight. As we speak here on a Wednesday, we know he enjoys cutting the ground. I think he's just the one here and now, and I think he'll win this. And I think he'll go into a Manicato stakes, maybe third up, and he'll just about be the horse to beat. Bridal Waltz can only run well. I think she's better suited over a little bit further than 1,100, but her ratings stack up well at 55 kilos. War Machine can run well as well. Interesting setup because he's missed the run now. And Inca Runa would probably be my fourth selection. But I'm chips in. I live another day. It's my best bet of the day, Bot.
Speaker 6Yeah, I mean, I get it, but it's way too short, isn't it? Like, War Machine's won a Stradbroke and bolted into Bobby Lewis, Gil Guy, sorry, heavily supported before he would run to the gates in the Bobby Lewis last time. Got a bit excited. Yeah. Happens to the best of them, Bot. It does. Happens a lot. Yeah, just have it. 250. What sort of number are you saying? 100. You reckon? Yeah. Fuck. It's a big number. I don't know. Maybe. That day at the one goom, I was absolutely cast off to the first day. And I didn't want to do anything. I just wanted to go home. You didn't listen to me. You didn't backstern. No, I would never do that. What a fill-up that was. Yeah. And then I live another day, won, and I was back. And then- The chronicles of vulnerable. Got back home in the early hours of the morning.
Speaker 4I know you're not a trial horse, Bot, but this horse, his work in the lead-up has been some of the best.
Speaker 6Yeah, I mean, he looks great, but I mean, I just, I don't know.
Speaker 5The market taking a set against him in the long game was because it was a heavy 15. Maybe. Not because of the horse's ability.
Speaker 6Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I don't think he can start inside two to one. Like, not against War Machine and Bridal Waltz, but I mean, I understand it.
Speaker 5Hopefully we get three bucks on track.
Speaker 6Yeah, I mean, it's not like the race previous where, like, I can't get Shadovar so short, but I understand why. Like, I understand why he's progressive. But, like, you have to think he's very progressive. Like, to have him at bed-
Speaker 5Well, Ben thinks he's going to win a Manicato, so of course he thinks he's progressive.
Speaker 6Yeah, I know, but, yeah. What do I like in this? Well, I mean, I've got War Machine, like, $480. I don't know what price he's-
Speaker 4$550. He's $6 now.
Speaker 6$6. Big price. Wow. Yeah, well, that, that, that, that, that, he, War Machine's- Not an $1100. I know, but- Coming off a setback. Yeah, he wants a setback.
Speaker 4I also don't, like, I also think he's probably better on top of the ground. He's probably a better dry tracker.
Speaker 5I don't think he's a Caulfield horse, either. What gives you that impression?
Speaker 6Not a Caulfield 1100 metre horse. Maybe not. Maybe not, but he's also a very fast horse, and that also helps.
Speaker 4The thing is, you can have good bets.
Speaker 5A little bit another day, we'll be just off and gone.
Speaker 4I don't know. I think you just have to take a little bit of a leap. I'm taking the leap of faith, thinking he, I don't think he's reached his level, but despite, you know, he's run some similar ratings last preparation, I think there's every chance he's going to come back better, given more opportunity to run on bigger numbers, and he'll, he will break through that 100 barrier at some stage this prep.
Speaker 6Does he have a query barrier one? Is that, is that a concern?
Speaker 4No, he, he can settle forward.
Speaker 6I know he can, but is it?
Speaker 4Like, what's, what's going to lead? Is Bridal Waltz just going to lead, and he's just going to sit right behind it? His recommend, like, recommendation doesn't go forward anymore, does he?
Speaker 6Yeah. I don't know. There's a, there is a worry he doesn't lead, and he's behind the...
Speaker 5Don't know, dude. He'll be going to want to cross and lead.
Speaker 6Yeah, I'd say so. I, I, I wouldn't be surprised if he's leaders, leaders back, and maybe that's not the worst thing in the world, but it could be some concern. Maybe some concern, but I'm, I'm really keen.
Speaker 4No concern. He's in the podcast multi.
Speaker 5I'll live another day, we'll win. He's a good horse. Won the time on a race. One of the greatest races in the history of world racing. The Wongoom handicap at Wandoor. Only good horses win Wongooms, Ben. Yep. It's, um, what is it? No squibs.
Speaker 4It's, it's, it's named after the great man now, isn't it? Um, who owns... The Cole McKenna Wongoom handicap. Yeah, the Cole McKenna Wongoom now. Yep.
Speaker 5Yep. Um, yeah, I'll live another day, we'll win. Great work by you to have him as a selection in the podcast multi this week. And I think, um, I think he'll be winning. If he does get out a little bit, I don't, like, I don't think the horse is going to start too much shorter. Like, I don't see him starting in the red. Um. Nah. I sort of said to you when he was even money all in, I sort of thought we'd get 250 final field and that's roughly where we're playing at now. And yeah, if he gets out a little bit, that'd be nice. Um, but yeah, I'm happy to, I'm happy to take the, around that 250 quote and I think it's a great bet.
Speaker 4Yep. Uh, but Incaruna, like she went off, she's short of, uh, she went off the boil late last preparation, but her early stuff was good.
Speaker 6Yeah. I mean, she's a little bit interesting, but I added 10 bucks. Yeah. Okay. Slight overlay. Yeah. I'm probably, I probably won't bet.
Speaker 4Move on to the first leg of the quarter. Now race seven coming up at Caulfield. It is the McNeil stakes group three, 1200 meters. I do remember having an idea. An absolute fill up on Moody's horse in this race. Lightsaber. We got the, we got the all in price a couple of years ago.
Speaker 5He stands at stud in, um, WA now.
Speaker 4Yeah, there you go. So something for the Star Wars fans there. Uh, we've got $4.80 the field here. Seize the day. $4.80 for Mark Walker. Can he get himself out of a bit of a rut that, um, that stable hasn't been going particularly well. American Eagle's been the bit of a drifter early. $3.80 out to $4.80. Wonder how barrier one works out for him. Unit five, $5.50. The magic. The magic millions winner, uh, Athera is $6.50 and Obambulate is eight out to 10. Uh, but I, I struggled to find a bet in this race. Did you like the Chris Waller horse?
Speaker 6Yes, I did. I think this is probably maybe my best bet of the day in this race. Look, I think American Eagle is a mile. He strides like a mile. Um, why is this $12? Confederation. Well, I couldn't tell you. I marked it $8 and that's why I'm backing it. Um, American Eagle strides. He's drawn barrier one. He's a mile. He's on a Guinea's path. I would have thought pretty vulnerable. I marked him $5.50. Seize the day. The New Zealand format I think is pretty, I don't think it's very good at all. Um, the number was okay, but look, you know, he's got to come in Victoria trial was just fine, but you know, marks him about $6 unit five. Again, the magic million form is not that good. And Confederation. Confederation. And Phillip Highland are both going to go forward. I think Confederation, um, it's quite good in the, uh, what was that race? Um, the one, the one that hard kick on her in the name of the race, the vein, the vein. That's right. Quite good run.
Speaker 4Third, I know I've held up a little bit late.
Speaker 6Yeah, it was held up a little bit on, on hills. I think he'll roll forward. I think he's a sprinter. Um, and Phillip on as well, who, who, who won really well at packing them, um, on the synthetics being well backed early, but I still think there's value in that. So I'm going to back the two of them. I think they're both going to roll forward and give a massive site against some that I don't think are much good at all. And then some of the milers, you know, I fear I won really well at Flemington, won a bad race, but won it really well. Last George meters or electric. Um, and yeah, uh, unit five again, the magic millions forms just junk.
Speaker 4So usually it's, isn't it?
Speaker 6Yeah. I mean, they're just that the professionals and, and he might be, he might be an exception to the rule, but, um, it doesn't have to win any more races.
Speaker 5He won 1.8 billion. Yeah.
Speaker 6I mean, I, I'd earn the side of, um, that suggested that he's, he's not, you know, he's not, he's not a world beater. And I, I just think those two confederation Phillip Island, uh, other two that, um, will put themselves up on speed and, and our sprinters and, um, have both run good enough figures that can win this race. Yep.
Speaker 4If you're wondering why there's a stain on my beautiful white shirt, um, it's cause I spilled a bit of Coke diet Coke. So that's, that's, um, that's a strip out Nika. Who do you like in this race?
Speaker 5I would have Seasley, um, he's the day on top, but I'm not betting in the race. I was, I'm being really taken by this horses wins over in New Zealand. It's been a horse that I've relatively followed from a, from afar. And I think it's a nice horse. I think, um, you know, he's got to pay the penalty for being a group one winner, but he did win by just shy of five. Um, he's going to make that step from two to three, which I think he can. And, um, yeah, yeah. Blakes, you know, I'm from a low gate, you know, it's going to be. Probably going to roll forward. So just depending on how the day goes, whether I have something on, but I think around that sort of $5 quote is a good enough price to have a small interest, if you were that one.
Speaker 4But is it fair to say TRK for the stock that they get have underachieved in Australia so far?
Speaker 6Yeah.
Speaker 4I mean, apart from imperatories last 12 months, they are going at 11%. ROI is around minus 24%. So yeah, it's an interesting one. They do buy a lot of very expensive horses and they get some good stock over. Um, yeah, it would just be good to see that.
Speaker 5They've had a little bit of a rate of attrition. They've lost a couple of their really good horses that have been off the start. A few of the cults.
Speaker 4So that's probably fair as well. Um, yeah, maybe I'm being harsh, but, uh, no, I think what you're saying has got
Speaker 5merit, but I think it could be a little bit inconclusive as well.
Speaker 4Yeah. All right. The big one, today's feature race eight, the group one Mimsy stakes, 1400 meters, wait for age conditions. And it's $4, 20, the field with Jimmy star, a boy who just absolutely loves. The Caulfield 1400 meters. He is three out of four. He's also, um, he's also seven out of five here at Caulfield itself. He's $4, 20 from cosmic crusader, $5. He's the fit. One third up angel capital is $6 50. You might've even touched seven for a little point there. Bay bucked. He's $7 50 treasure. The moment's been back today, nine into $7 50 and autumn boy ever since the news came through that James McDonald was on, he's been 12 into 10. He's the bright side's worth mentioning at 12 and Tom kitten, 21 G I've read Read a lot of them out there, but I think they deserve to be read out. These are very good horses. My speed map, interesting. I think Bayvac really does own the lead here from Barrier 7 with Nash Rewilla on board. We know he's got good 1,400-meter figures. Treasure of the Moment will want to be right there on speed. Mr. Brightside will go forward. And I think you can position Autumn Boy a little further forward now with Jamek on from Barrier 3. The horses probably have to go back, include Jimmy Starr from Barrier 8. And Cosmic Crusader, I don't think Willie Pike will hustle and bustle him. I think he'll be, at best, just beyond midfield. Bot, what was your starting point in this race?
Speaker 6Well, my starting point is that Angel Capital's in it.
Speaker 4You just love donating.
Speaker 6Teasing us. Part of it is that I just enjoy the chaos of it all. But I also like that there's a part of me that just wants to back him because he's a good horse. Because it's fun. And if he wins, then I can just, like, rinse the two of you. But also, there's also a part of me that thinks he's been very poorly managed and he gets out to 400 meters with a run under the belt and he can map sort of midfield and this is the best chance he's ever had to run a real number. I think we haven't seen the ceiling of Angel Capital yet. There we have it. It's the trough full of milk in the morning in his bloody washboard. Well, that's the thing. That might be true, but the market just has a good opinion of this horse. I do, too. Yeah, because suckers like you keep backing him. Well, he just, he doesn't, he hasn't been well placed. He's not a sprinter. If you think he's a sprinter, well, good luck. He just keeps sucking you in. Like, he's run with his last start.
Speaker 5He doesn't get back, run on, flashy horse that wears pretty colors.
Speaker 6Over 1,200 meters. Over 1,200 meters.
Speaker 5It doesn't matter what distance he runs at.
Speaker 6Well, it does because over 400 meters.
Speaker 5Jimmy Starr's handled him at Flemish. At Caulfield 1,400 and will again. What are you saying?
Speaker 6He's a $480, $5 chance? $480 chance is my price. But I was going to ask you this. Jimmy Starr, last preparation was a heavy taper off on his form.
Speaker 5Yep. Running over a decent short of his best.
Speaker 6Oh, no, that was my other point. His two best runs last preparation were both over 400 meters. It's very obvious that he is.
Speaker 5Which is what race is it? What distance is the race on Saturday?
Speaker 6Yes, but we're not at the level he was at previously. And I think the market right now is pricing off his form from two preparations ago.
Speaker 5No, because if the Jimmy Starr that we saw two preparations ago was here, he'd be even money.
Speaker 6Well, no, that's not true.
Speaker 5Well, it is true.
Speaker 6Let me price it right now.
Speaker 4I think he'd be shorter than $4.20.
Speaker 5He'd be close to even money.
Speaker 6No, he'd be about $3.40, $3.50.
Speaker 4He wouldn't be even money.
Speaker 5He'd be close to even money at Nick Bet.
Speaker 4At Nick Bet.
Speaker 5I think $4 is a fair chance.
Speaker 4Is Angel Capital your only bet?
Speaker 6No, back at Baywalk. At Baywalk as well, because he gets the complete control from the front. And Baywalk is made for 400 meters at Caulfield. Like, if there was a scenario for him, he's just the prototype 400 meter Caulfield horse. He's going to get the complete run of the race. And, you know, he bolted in that Golden Rose. He wasn't able to back it up in the Coolmore. And they sent him around a lot of lightning. He doesn't turn his legs over fast enough for 1,000 meters. They got him out over 1,300 in Canterbury. He was fine. And then. And he eventually made his way to the all-age and just ran him up. He just went to the front and was too good. If he runs that number, he probably wins. So those are the two for me. Cosmic Crusader. I think it's really tricky for him, especially with the gate. They have to make a decision with him. Will they roll forward? And I think Willie Pike's going to do that. And if they try to ride him negative neutral, he's going to be potentially wide. You know, there's some of the best jockeys in the world riding this race. They're not going to just let him in. I think he's got to go all the way up to last. If he's last, he can't win. We're watching.
Speaker 4We're watching replays here, Nico. That's probably the best Memsie Stakes performance you'll ever see.
Speaker 5I was trying to figure out who it was.
Speaker 4It was Atlantic Jewel. She absolutely frosted it. I'd say that's probably the number one Memsie Stakes performance. So you think won it well? He did win it well. That was more like a fighting win over. That was arrogant. But that Atlantic Jewel win was like Winx-like.
Speaker 6This is for Sunstar Loon's one, yeah.
Speaker 4Yeah. Another horse that was probably better over further that won. The good horses can win this race first up. And I think Jimmy Starr is a good horse. What a segue that is. He's been jumping out and trialing very well. I know Angel Capital has the run under the belt, but we saw they both had every chance in the CFL and Jimmy was too good for him. So I still think Jimmy is the better horse. I'm happy to back him. I think Barrier 8 actually works out okay for him as long as there's no rails bias.
Speaker 5Question for Will. What? What's your query with Angel Capital on the ground? That's something to put into consideration because the reports have been if you spit on it, he doesn't like it. It's going to be a soft 6, soft 7 on the weekend. Is this going to be his excuse, is it? The ground's too wet for him. Is this what we're going to say? I'm going to come back next week.
Speaker 6Yeah, this is exactly what it's going to be. I can see this. Next time when he gets back onto a fast track.
Speaker 4Surely it's not going to be a 7. Surely it's going to be a little bit better than that. Yeah. Unless we get rain on Friday.
Speaker 6Look, I... It's not going to be a soft enough 6. I haven't thought about it too hard.
Speaker 5Like, this doesn't... It's going to be clouds in the sky and the track's wet. It won't...
Speaker 6That's exactly what it's going to be. It won't matter at about 4.09 on Saturday afternoon, but about at maybe 4.15, that'll be my excuse. Unless bale-wacked ones, and I'll tell you, I told you so.
Speaker 4I think the market's right, boys. Like Jimmy Starr, favourite $4.20. I've got a result on him, and I've also got a result on Cosmic Crusader, who... He's the fit horse. He's third up. He's won the Bletchingly. He has won the PB Lawrence, both in good style. And I don't think a cut in the track will sort of hurt his chances either. He did win on a... Slow track last time around. So they're the two for me. It's a little bit boring. Bale-wacked, I'm scared stiff of. Obviously, he's got two monster 1,400 metre ratings, but is he going to be fit enough to produce them and roll to the front first up? Maybe. Maybe not. I'd love the booking of Nash. He goes in my quaddie. Mr. Brightside is such an interesting one because he's a lazy bugger in his track work.
Speaker 6We've got to talk about him before Tyson, absolutely.
Speaker 4His work, he's really... That track... Gallop against Café Millennium. You can't look at that and go, this is a champion racehorse. Café Millennium made him look second rate. Yeah, but he always does that. I know. He is a lazy track worker. He produces his best on game day, but gee whiz, is he past his best? He probably is.
Speaker 5Tyson could have beaten him in that Gallop, to be fair.
Speaker 4Can he win this, Mr. Brightside?
Speaker 6It's a hard one. For my mental health, if he does win, I'll say, yeah, but realistically, I'm marking 20 to 1. I think it's an ask.
Speaker 4I would be very surprised if he won this, but gee whiz, he's been a champion for many years.
Speaker 5Nothing would ever surprise me with a horse like this, but I would be surprised if he could win off 300 plus days.
Speaker 4First up of 30-something weeks.
Speaker 5He's not getting any younger, and champions do, other horses can't, but I'd be shocked. But if he did win, I would be there clapping him because he's been a fantastic horse. Loves the Caulfield 400. He loves Caulfield 400. This is his A1. To me, I think there's two winning chances in this race, and I don't think Mr. Brightside is one of those.
Speaker 4First up has never been his real go-getter. He usually improves into the campaign. The other horse I've had a... How did he go into the Lawrence? Yeah, then he might have had the run of the belt. That might have been a little bit interesting. I've had half a unit on Tom Kitten as well. I got $34. He's one of yours. Do I think he's a great winning chance? No, but I just thought that bet was going to be overs. I've got one more.
Speaker 6Yep. I'll have something on Birdman. What about Garris? He did sprint well.
Speaker 5Garris talks you into Birdman, doesn't he? No, I like... Garris talked you into him, didn't he?
Speaker 6Look, no one talks me into anything. I'm way too arrogant for that. What is Birdman? He's an 1,800-meter horse. Yeah, he's a 2,000-meter horse. He's just...
Speaker 5I'll still never forgive him for what happened at Flemington. Yeah, look, I think... I'll never forgive him for that. He sprints really well. When he hosed up on that Jenny race. Oh, my God. That could be one of the... Sickest beats ever.
Speaker 6Yeah. I mean, he's a chance. That Duman Cup number's really nice. Obviously, over 2,000 meters, but he's the blowout for sure.
Speaker 5I think there's two winning chances in this race. I want to be with Jimmy Starr. I think he's a bomb. 1,400-meter Caulfield horse. I think his trials have led me to believe that he's come back in the form that we saw him in two preparations ago. That's what I'm basing my opinion off. I think it's a bit of D-Day for Jimmy Starr. I think he's going to get... He's going to get everything in his favor. Caulfield, 1,400 meters, soft track. Race that's going to pan out well for him. I think he has to be your starting point. I think he deserves to be your favorite. I think Cosmic Crusader is third up. Rock hard fit. Absolutely low flying. I think he's going to get a similar run to what saw him be devastating last time. And I think... I don't think barrier 11's an issue for him. I think he's just going to map and run similarly to what we saw last time. You know, the biggest pain in my ass during this race was not angel capital because I've put a fat line through him already. I don't think Bayvac's a first up horse. The real hateful horse in this race is treasure at the moment because I think this is obviously a horse that we saw this time last year win this race comprehensively. And we thought she was a second coming. She's had nothing but more issues than bots since then. I think. Hmm. She's. she's a gun fresh horse She's a gun soft tracker and I just don't, you couldn't back her with confidence, but I think she's got to go in the quarter just in case she's getting to a price where you've probably like, if she, if she come out one, you'd be so angry. Cause you'd be like, what is wrong with you? Where's this been? Because you've had so many problems since the last time we saw you win dominantly, which is exactly what she could do here.
Speaker 4She did run third in a Cox play.
Speaker 5I just want to see her do it again. Like she's had so many problems since then. I think we all do. We all do. And I really hope for the betterment of the spring carnival. Like the Cox play needs a race like treasure at the moment to come and challenge third Ilias and Aliana. Like the Cox play needs that this year and she's the type of horse that can do it. So I hope that she comes back and she shows that there's signs of life on Saturday. I think she's got to go in your quaddie, but I couldn't confidently. Heart base with money with her. So I'm back in Jimmy, the star, Jimmy, Jimmy star saving cosmic crusader, but I think treasure at the moment has to go in your quaddie. Yep. All right.
Speaker 4Let's move on to race number nine. The Headley stakes listed 1700 meters. And we see the return of a very nice import in yellow Jersey, $2.40 for Qatar bloodstock and the McAvoy's first quarter, $6. This is, um, we, we having, we're going to have to call RSP CA or I don't know what uncle Lindsay's doing. Gee whiz, this, uh, this horse has been up for a very long time. It's a Craig David job. Just focus. $11. Bonavara twelves and Zaran is thirteens. Niko. We probably have to speed up time a little bit here, but yellow Jersey, um, it's a very nice animal and it could be targeting races like an Underwood and a Caulfield stakes, maybe even a Cox plate. And if it is going to be winning races like that, it needs to be winning here.
Speaker 5It will be winning here. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I did sort of say this last week that I was hoping to get a market for this race all in to be fair, probably wouldn't have got a price anyway, but it was nice in theory. The dream was free to think that I was going to get $3.50 all in about this horse. But, um, yeah, I think it's a deserved favorite. I think whichever way you cut this race, he wins. I think the only danger in this race has got 60 kilos and will be better with the run in Bonavara heading to the end of the season. So I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job.
Speaker 4I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job.
Speaker 6I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. It's a point and shoot an armor yard job.
Speaker 4I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job.
Speaker 6I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job.
Speaker 5I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job.
Speaker 6I think it's a point and shoot an armor yard job. How he goes But um Other than that, not really.
Speaker 4Yeah. The race we will give a little bit more love is the San Domenico, race number eight. This is for our three-year-olds, 1,100 meters. Blue Door is $2.10 from Guest House, $5. War Woven, $5.50. Wild Atlantic, the debutant, has been 11 into $7.50. And Revengeance has been a drifter, $6.50 out to $8.50. Now, when markets went up earlier this morning, I thought, gee, it's a little bit disrespectful that Guest House, the Golden Slipper winner, has gone up the price he has. There is still some part of me that thinks that, but there's also another part of me that thinks Blue Door is the one best suited at 1,100 meters. She's had the run under the belt. She's going to go forward here and lead this race, and I think she's going to be too good. I don't really want to take $2.10. I think we'll get a little bit better than that, but she missed the trial. So she was a little bit soft in condition first up. And she went a good tempo there. It was no harm in being beaten by Chilly Girl. I think she's going to get out to a more backable price, Nico. And I just think she's going to be too fast for these boys.
Speaker 5Yeah, I sort of probably agree. I think she's the starting point in the race. I'm going to put myself in a gunny, because Dice is going to love this. But I think Guest House is an easy enough horse to oppose on the weekend. I think the way that I look at it, I can't see a world where this horse is fit, screwed down, ready to go first up when they're going to go to a race. A run to the Rose, a Golden Rose, an Everest, and still have ambitions to go to a Coolmore. If that's what your preparation is, and you're trying to win those races at the back end of the preparation, you're having a run here with 58 and a half kilos. I don't care what anyone says. I'm happy to have egg in my face, because if he comes out and wins this race on the weekend, well, fuck, he's in for a great preparation.
Speaker 4It'll be the first time since 1991. I know that history doesn't mean anything, but first horse.
Speaker 5But it's still relevant to us. Like a lot of horses, the caveat to that stat that you said, that was on Sky, there's been eight runners from the Golden Slipper, and one of them's placed. I think, albeit, a lot of those horses don't go to the Santa Monica. They go straight to the run to the Rose, but... Some of them go straight to stud. We've got to break a few things down here. Golden Slipper winners don't have great records post-winning a Golden Slipper. This horse is a big horse who does a lot wrong. He's definitely not going to see a tempo that he saw in a Golden Slipper on the weekend in this race. And I've still got my queries on him being able to win multiple races with what he still does wrong. He's definitely got the ability. We saw that in a Golden Slipper. But he's not going to get a Golden Slipper tempo in a lot of races. He might see it in an Everest. That might be it, this preparation. And what you're referring to is he's a horse who can get very keen and over-race. He gets keen, he over-races, he still does so much wrong.
Speaker 4His trials have been quite good, like strong trials going into this preparation. I think I've been a fan of them. But it'll be interesting to see... The race days are completely different. If he irons out those cracks. But did you have any thoughts?
Speaker 6There's a Golden Slipper in here, isn't there? Golden Slipper winner? Yeah, that's what we've been talking about for the last five minutes. Why is it not favourite? It's a Golden Slipper winner.
Speaker 5Because it's not that simple, Bob. Well, it's not. It's really not. If racing was that simple, we wouldn't be sitting here.
Speaker 4I think Blue Door and Gessier should be a little bit closer together in the betting.
Speaker 6Yeah, well, I mean, there's a Golden Slipper winner. It's $5 and some squibby filly that's... I just think...
Speaker 4A squibby filly might get away with it again here, though.
Speaker 6Yeah, well, yeah. Golden Slipper winner's $5.
Speaker 5At this point in time, I'm going to have something on Blue Door and Warwoven. Golden Slipper winner's $5.
Speaker 6You don't even think to...
Speaker 5No, if you've actually fucking listened to what we just said. Well, I prefer not to. Yeah, well, that's common for you. Not listening to straight facts. Anyway, good luck to Tyson, Roll the Dice, and the crew with Guest House's preparation. But to me, I just can't see how that horse wins on the weekend. If they're trying to peak third, fourth, fifth. They're up into preparation. He's just not going to get a tempo that he's already got on the Slipper. And to me, he needs tempo in races to settle. You can't brief and pull and carry on the way this horse has in the past. Still looks like he does in his trials and win races. So if he wins this race on the weekend, well, he's in for a fantastic preparation. But I can't see it.
Speaker 4I'm probably not as harsh against Guest House's Nico. There was some bookmaker, not with our friends, that was betting some $6. And I can't get on with them. So... PVL, please lift your game and get rid of these MBLs that only come in place in Sydney on a Saturday morning. That's a joke. I could have a savoury there at sixes, but Blue Door will be my main bet. Race nine, Oltoff looks very hard to beat, $2.20. That horse has Epsom aspirations, I believe. So it's a nice one. It absolutely made a mess of the Godolphin horse. Attica. Attica, last run. So it's one to watch as well. I think that's it. Podcast multi-time, isn't it? Podcast multi-time. And you've put yourself on the bench this week.
Speaker 6Well, no. I'm the team player and I didn't, you know, there's no... You didn't have a standout? Nah.
Speaker 4Not a horse you were very keen on anyway, so...
Speaker 6Well, I didn't assume you guys were going to let me take Angel Capital. No.
Speaker 4You're probably correct there. So the podcast multi will be my selection going off first. And that is race six, number three. I live another day. $2.50 currently on a Wednesday night here with Bet365. This horse just keeps winning. He keeps putting up good marks. I think he'll take the progression, this preparation, and lift his ratings. I think he maps just to be behind the leaders from barrier one. And a soft track is right up his alley as well. So I live another day goes in. And you like?
Speaker 5Caulfield race nine, number 10, yellow jersey for all the reasons I outlined prior. I think this horse has got much better races in store than what it races in on Saturday. It's a fit horse. Bringing that Queensland preparation has improved since coming down from Queensland back down to Melbourne. Has trialed really well. Looks a point and shoot, Armour Guard fill-up job. And if this gets beat, it's going to hurt. So responsibly, of course. But yeah, it looks awfully hard to beat. And yeah, that's a great podcast multi this week. So they always look good on paper. But it's hard to find a way to pick holes in that, I would have thought.
Speaker 4Beautiful. We should get around $7, $7.50 for that double. It is question time. We go to Twitter first. Kim Ned. Keen to see the return of Solcombe on Saturday. Speaking of the cup, have you got any Melbourne Cup tickets going yet? I've backed Defiantly and Bay of Brilliance at the moment. $26 and $61 respectively.
Speaker 5I haven't backed anyone in the cup yet.
Speaker 4Looks wide open this year. A lot of imports being thrown about. Well, yeah, Joseph O'Brien's come out and said, I could have 10 in the Melbourne Cup. Like, that's obviously not going to happen.
Speaker 5No, he might have.
Speaker 4But he could have four. Four or five. He could have four or five. The only horse I've backed in the Melbourne Cup, I got $21 for Aliana. Her first up run was very worrying. But if she gets back on track, that's going to look an okay ticket.
Speaker 5We might have to do some wagering at Call of the Card this year.
Speaker 4I just think with these internationals, these scans, they just make it hard to bet with confidence.
Speaker 5There's no value in the market anyway.
Speaker 4Unless you've got something at 100 to 1, like Gareth tipped that thing today.
Speaker 5Yeah, but like even King of the Sea last week, like 51s, there's a slight edge. Like, yes, he's now $13, but a lot still has to go right. And there's not luck. There's not. There's not really an edge in the market, even at $51. Like, yes, there's a slight bit of mayo, but not a lot. Yeah.
Speaker 4Tice left a gif. He wasn't happy that I didn't mention him on the podcast. I think it was last week or the week before. So he's got a couple of mentions tonight.
Speaker 5He's basically a shake. So he's got that many horses running around and we can't mention them all.
Speaker 4Yeah. It's funny. Like when something wins on a Wednesday and he's got it, he's like, oh, did you back that? I'm like, no, you didn't tell me to back it.
Speaker 6He just loves attention, Tyson.
Speaker 4Rowan Greger. Biggest bet you've ever placed on a race and did it win? The biggest bet I ever placed, I've said this a couple of times on this podcast. I had five grand on Winx one day. I wouldn't have been that old. I legit would have been like younger than there. I would have been like 19 years old. I think it was, it was a large chunk of my bank at the time. Let's just put it that way. But I got $1.20 for Winx or $1.22 or something. And I had the absolute lot on her and obviously she won. It was in like a. A George main or something like that group on 1600 meters. And I think her main dangers were prized icon and egg tart.
Speaker 5I'm not disclosing any amounts, but I've had a couple of large wages. Nature strip and I used to have a love, hate relationship. There's some times that I piled into him that he won and some times that I piled into him and he got beat. Yeah. But Stern Idol was a very good horse to me at Warrnambool this year. I had a big crack. I had a big crack at him this year at Warrnambool. Yeah. But yeah.
Speaker 4But. Do you remember yours? You don't have to say the figure, some, but do you remember a race?
Speaker 5It's polarizing because Stern Idol, I backed a couple of times at some short odds and he got rolled too, so.
Speaker 4Yeah. Oh, I've had four figures on nature strip a couple of times. A couple of times I've been beaten and a couple of times I've won.
Speaker 5You saw me distraught at Ballarat when Stern was gone with $1,200.
Speaker 4I'll never, I'll never forget the lightning standing next to you watching that when Home Affairs won after he missed the start. Fuck. He got sandwiched at the start. He should have won.
Speaker 5He should have shit in. And J-Mac boned him to ride home affairs.
Speaker 6The cult. I could, I can't remember. Can't remember?
Speaker 5He has that many of them he can't remember them all.
Speaker 4Cooper Albers, I live another day, has to go to a new level to win on Saturday. And with some of the numbers of Bridal Waltz, Fresh and War Machine at his best, surely looks a bit short to find out at the current quote. Is that Bot or Cooper texting him? Yeah. Well, it could be, um. Cooper's a smart man. It could be, uh, it could be Bot.
Speaker 7Hmm.
Speaker 4Have you met Cooper Albers? Yes, I have. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He works at the. Met him at the, met him at the Bull. Works with the Causton team. Um, Bot, that's what Bot's saying. I'm, I'm disagreeing and saying, you have to take a leap of faith. on this horse, but...
Speaker 5You've always got to take a leap of faith. You've just got to be brave, but something that you're not very good at.
Speaker 4The market has got this horse going to a level that he hasn't reached yet. And that's the narrative I'm going with. Journey of the punt. Two-parter. Does Nico have a PO box so I can send him a fire extinguisher? Who said this? The See You Next Tuesday is on fire recently.
Speaker 5Who said that?
Speaker 4Journeys of the punt. He's giving you a pump up. Is that your burner? No, it's not. I think this is Nico. Let's check out the IP address.
Speaker 5Just some positive mail for me is good.
Speaker 4Good gear. And can we build a nice bank into Saturday with Encanto Star? I've had a bet on Encanto Star. I think we can. So that's Friday, Geelong, race number seven, number five, Encanto Star. He's the full brother to Jimmy or half brother?
Speaker 6Full brother to Jimmy.
Speaker 4Full brother to Jimmy Star. Could be a Jimmy weekend or a star weekend. Ryan Lawrence, what's your take on Jimmy? First up over 1400 meters versus his previous preps being first up over 11 or 12. I think it helps getting his pet distance earlier. I agree. I think he's a, I think 1200 meters is too sharp for him these days. So 1400 meters is perfect. I think we all agree on that.
Speaker 5Yeah.
Speaker 4Uh, punters and beers. Question regarding the scheduling of races. Is there any major race days you would change around such, uh, as a horse, as a grand final races and lead up races? Hope it makes sense.
Speaker 6The Australia cup in Tancred being on the, that's a shocker. Yeah. And also the two guineas, the Australian guineas and the Randwick guineas is that's probably the worst.
Speaker 7Are they one week apart?
Speaker 6I think they're, um, I think, yeah, I think they're a week apart. That that's just the worst.
Speaker 5Spring champion in the Derby is pretty bad. Yeah. That's bad.
Speaker 4There's been a couple that PBL has done on purpose. Yeah. The one, the one that.
Speaker 5The King Charles and the Cox Plate being a week and a part.
Speaker 4That's the one that really shits me right now. The King Charles is now Australia's best. Wait for age 1600 meter race. And it's one week before Australia's best 2000 meter wait for age race.
Speaker 5Shits me.
Speaker 4And horses, like they can go to both, but it's hard to go grand final, grand final, one week apart. They really should be two weeks apart.
Speaker 7Yeah.
Speaker 4Bootlegs junior keep up the good work. Thank you very much. Ryan Patton has bought ever gone and watched Ben play footy. And if so, when a fight broke out, did he measure Ben's stride length and frequency running in the opposite direction?
Speaker 5Yeah, it's not hard to measure that. Switzerland. I'm a, I'm a lover, not a fighter. We know. I know.
Speaker 4And, but what did you reply? You said, I don't know. You said watch Ben take kickouts over gambling. Fucking lol.
Speaker 6No way.
Speaker 4Punters anonymous. Uh, how is the weight going to affect St. George in the third at Caulfield?
Speaker 5One of his best here, Mr. B.
Speaker 4Um, yeah, just fighting off alligator blood. I wish I win on the outside. And princess grace on the inside there. Princess grace. I think it almost won a group on princess. Like it almost won that one. Then it ran second to fan girl in the wink stakes. I think, um, the white St. George, it should be fine. He's a horse who's carried weight before, but no doubt. Doug Bonnet does get a good way to advantage on racing enough. Would this be on par? The funniest tweet of the year from Glenny from today on, I will not be releasing my selections any longer on X. I'll be starting a private tipping service, horse racing, harnessing, grace tips available every day. DM for details on old mate, Glenny, like he's really taking Twitter by storm. As any, um, you would have thought that he owns at least 50% of well-written, but he doesn't.
Speaker 6Oh, are you there?
Speaker 4I think we are somewhere. Oh yeah. That was the replays of members. He stakes is, and, uh, bought getting these big fat head on the screen and Nico Ryan Jackson. Oh, geez. I can't read that part out. Uh, midweek tip. And, um, we're going to go with, we're going to go with incanto star. But the answer to your first question is an easy one. Uh, Stu Ferrenchi, sup Mexicans, weakest Cox plate in 30 years. Sir Delius, Dally or platinum Pearl. Who you got? Well, Sir Delius, but platinum Pearl was a good run. It was a good run the other day. On track for the X. Uh, the only three-year-old filly to have ever won the Cox plate is surround. So it doesn't happen often. Stu. Coops Irwin. Should be worth a bit if she won. With Mr. B back this weekend. What is your favorite? Mr. Brightside memory.
Speaker 6Has to be the player video, the Mr. Brightside. Um, when, when he beat, uh, his third, his third, um, was that the third one? Yeah.
Speaker 5Selfishly. Sorry.
Speaker 6That was the second one. Second one. He's going to win four in three weeks time. Yeah.
Speaker 4The last year's one was a bit boring. You just let it a very sedate tempo. I mean, it might not have been boring for you. You beat via sustainer. Yeah, no. His second one was. That was probably mine. That's the best Mr. Brightside memory. Just running down prior to Jenny. Oh, that was good.
Speaker 5Oh, my favorite ones. Obviously the video that made me famous, so. Made you famous.
Speaker 4Play it. Play it. Coops Irwin. Do you think, uh, Solcombe has any chance of being a cup threat this year? No, no. This was not a good day. Pinstripe beaten him. Fuck. Yeah. Uh, Corey Sutton. The best place chance. Andrew capital. It was that in the Memsie. I'll go with Cosmic Crusader. Just won't miss a hole. Given he's set up, I reckon. Oh, this is still giving me nightmares. Niko's lost. His attention span's gone. He's watching replays. Couple more to go. Fellas just hanging there with me. Barracule is king. Surely have something on Mr. Brightside at $11. Uh, we think he'll start longer. Dylan Cooley. Do you boys know where Jigsaw is heading? And is anything confirmed for Jigsaw this spring?
Speaker 5Scalacci is kicking off and he's targeting the, um, the meteorite. Yeah.
Speaker 4So those are the two runs that they're looking at. Um, he's not going to the Moyer. He's not going to the Manicato. The Scalacci is, is it, is it on Guinea's day? It's on Guinea's day group two. Caulfield Guinea's day, 1100 meter group two. And they're going back to the rich race at, um, Cranbourne. And then who knows from there? I'd love to see them go to a winter bottom, but I don't, I don't think that will. They could go to Hong Kong. There's no point going to Hong Kong running second to the car. Young Nikki Toro. What's bots favorite future play. Currently mine.
Speaker 6I don't do that stuff. That's us. Ben what's yours?
Speaker 4Well, what's the one you gave us last week? King of the sea, king of the sea and the Caulfield cup. That's my favorite. Let's go with that. It's, it's the one that will give you your most credit. If it won snake pit punters pod yellow Jersey has to be a cock in. Doesn't it have an interesting way of saying shoe best bet in the Canara cup. Cheers. What? Where's the Canara cup?
Speaker 5No idea.
Speaker 4Kind of kind of narrow cup.
Speaker 5Having a time to look at Canada.
Speaker 4Oh, we've got to dust up on our kind of. Canara form. But, um, yeah, yellow Jersey. We came on James Dawson. Did you see Nash Nash's right on castle John today? How good. Yeah, that's good. Incredible. Went to the outside rail to find the better ground.
Speaker 5And, uh, nice to know if we're going to see this treasure turn up on Saturday.
Speaker 4That was, uh, some ride Damon Wimley. How far brighter waltz. Look at this bot. I think there's a bit of packing and bias in that checky SAS appeal. How by how far I think she went by a length and Stu Frenchie bell Chevelle is a $9 50 moral. You're welcome. POC, South Australian form $2 50 fave rolling on the floor laughing. Well, bell Chevelle, 60 kilos, first up 1200. Would it surprise? Probably not, but I'm not going to back it. Probably not, but she is coming off of binary prep 2000. I think she'll be better over further deeper in the prep. Well, that is the podcast wrapped. Hopefully we can get another podcast multi-home. It is the first group on of the Victorian season this week in the Memsie. It should be an absolute cracker. Good luck punters.
