Patti and James reflect on a festive Halloween weekend, sharing nostalgic memories of dressing up and playing street football in Irish estates. These childhood traditions highlight the strong community bonds central to GAA culture. The conversation evolves into a thoughtful discussion of the All-Star team selection process, emphasizing how decisions are made through democratic, often heated, deliberation among 12 panelists. Players like Jordan Flynn and Stephen O’Hannan are praised for their standout performances, though the final team reflects a balance between personal achievement and team success. The hosts also explore the changing landscape of Gaelic football, noting increased visibility, more games, and growing prominence of individual awards. They highlight key provincial and national fixtures, such as the Dublin Senior Championship final and Ulster and Monster finals, which are shaping the season's narrative. Underlying all of this is a broader focus on mental resilience and community well-being, with the show promoted as part of November’s initiative to support GAA communities both on and off the pitch. The discussion concludes with a sense of shared experience and appreciation for the game’s traditions and evolving dynamics.
There's a football part on off the ball, brought to you by November ahead of the game,
building mentally resilient GAA communities on and off the pitch.
How's it going?
And you're very welcome along for the football part with Patti Andrews and James Adonohu.
How are we really here as well?
It is November the 2nd and Monday.
What a lovely crisp, autumnal weekend.
We've just witnessed slides.
Did you ever know it's Halloween, Patti and James?
Very good.
Very good.
You were decked out, Patti and Patti.
I didn't actually worry about the costume.
I saw you, don't.
All right, Patti, James.
Next year, Foli, next year.
We'll see you guys going.
You'll be sure to come straight.
R&M, Patti.
Patti, Jimmy is R&M.
I'm welcome around Abbey Fair.
That's not always nice.
Patti, go ahead.
Patti, go ahead.
Patti, go ahead.
Patti, who did you dress up as?
Who did you dress up as?
And you looked very well.
We were Toy Story, yeah.
So Drain got the Toy Story gear.
That's kind of, you know what I mean?
Like, the kids just go through phases where, for like a month,
they're just obsessed with one thing.
And if they're at the minute for us, it's Toy Story.
I'm not complaining.
There's worse things I've been watching with the little fella.
So, I was--
Toy Story 5.
Toy Story 3, go to the motion.
I was, uh, Oswadi.
Hugie Bear was, uh, it was light ear.
My daughter was a sheep.
It's really so fragile as a sheep.
Donna Ante was, uh, old pig.
So it was great past.
No, it was amazing.
I don't think you actually dress up.
I reckon people were actually dressing up as you.
There was no need for you to dress up.
No, I'm glad you were.
You were.
You imagine people all over the country had dressing up.
Yeah, the fake glasses and fake teeth.
[LAUGHTER]
[INAUDIBLE]
Yeah, there you go.
That was lovely.
It was great weather.
It was-- it was beautiful there.
17, 17 degrees, which was nice.
And did you--
Yeah, now it was really good.
Lots of sweets.
Did you go to a trick trip?
We did.
Early life.
And this was a bit of a gap.
We went to five o'clock, as I don't know what it goes to sleep,
but like, well, maybe just before seven.
And the bridge is for playing in the championship final.
And then all.
And that didn't finish till about half six
and went the other way.
The panels, baby.
So we didn't actually get to that match.
So I was going to trick or treat.
And the world's checking my father for the bridge.
Three things.
The bridges are out of division.
The beta vision, which is seven years in the making.
Big job.
Big or treating.
In your area, you know, Paddy.
Like, I wouldn't go on later.
I should've probably put in Rolex.
There's never anything in his face, was that?
Yeah.
Car keys.
They came home.
I'm an absolute fortune.
On the 50s, gone into the into the back.
It was great.
It was great.
And made a few more.
I get to sit on the Lans.
Don't worry.
Don't.
Jeff.
What about yourself?
I'll check the sweet and fucking Abbey fairly serious.
One kilometer outside a clarinetown.
I am just a clarinetown.
I don't know if I have nothing to do with that.
You see it?
No, no trick or treat enough.
Fortunately.
Of course it went.
So if you know next year, maybe next year.
Next year.
Next year.
Next year should be ready for it.
Yeah.
We'd want.
We'd want color.
How far between the houses?
We are.
In the next station.
It's a row of houses.
Right.
It's interesting.
You wouldn't be walking in with your director.
Would you jump?
No, you wouldn't walk it.
But.
I'm sitting.
No, you wouldn't trick or treat it to be fair.
It's a lead, it is a lead rod.
I had to build a wall recently in my own hands.
Just in case.
It carries going very fast.
I just think that we're going to come in the front door.
So.
It is.
Yeah.
It is a bit too quick for the trick or treat.
That's why I grew up in an estate.
It's like growing up in an estate.
There's a lot to be said for it.
Do you know?
I remember it for the gave me a tie on the trick or treat and then scrap.
Was there a particular reason for it?
It's a boy.
I just came home.
He's still alive.
I had to be so dead.
When you grew up in a estate, we're talking early 90s when you're maybe seven or eight years
old.
No, late 90s or 17 years old.
That is the golden era to be grown up in an estate in Ireland.
It's slightly different now.
You could play outside all day long, couldn't you?
Yeah, but you can know.
Sometimes.
Simple.
Once you're fast enough to run away from anything.
Really?
Probably grind.
I see playing in an estate.
Like you get some education.
You're playing every sport.
Yeah.
You know, you're playing with every age group.
When you're the youngest.
It's great for the old development.
It doesn't happen anymore.
Doesn't it not?
Well, I don't see it.
I don't see it.
But like that, where you play, and you'd be like eights, and you'd be playing a soccer match,
we're like 15 to 16 years old.
Don't we know that at all?
We used to go around knocking on the doors, like together.
Yeah.
Together from that.
Seven.
Four matches.
One of the conquests.
It was any bit too far.
One rear.
Oh, that's right.
Let's go back.
This smell of cockgrass.
I remember being so excited about the smell of cockgrass because it meant there was going to be a game
on down the estate.
One rear.
The sun already there.
Do they have any bit dry?
And then obviously, I used to tape on.
I used to, I didn't have any names in the back of my jersey.
So I caught, I'd make the letters.
I'm paid for a color domain and then sell it to a month in the back of the jersey.
It's like like a serial killer.
Like letters.
Yeah.
She's like the one.
Part of it.
No.
Put the number on the back of the jersey.
Yeah.
That's it.
It was great for my creativity as well.
Simple times, that's it.
The gold in this.
The gold numbers.
The Wayne Rooney Street footballer was a TV show at one stage.
I don't think he could be able to make street footballers anymore.
No.
I tell you the problem.
Wayne Rooney Street football was.
There was too many tasks and all you want is eight and eight or six and six, five and five.
Jumpers for goals, not kicking the ball into this blue thing or up in the air.
That's it.
Yeah.
That's all about the win.
Let's get back.
It's going on.
I'm sorry.
What's in there?
Oh, wow.
Kelly is raging.
That's hurting.
It's a surprise.
He's doing a little bit beyond that.
He doesn't need a few public.
No.
What was he saying?
That's sick to football.
He was only 18 million a year.
You know.
It's a surprise.
He's down.
People have to watch it.
Fine.
Do you watch it?
A little bit of a jab.
It's funny.
You know, I tell you when people watch James don't know who's dropping off the catwalk in 2014 when he went football.
They really may not have taught.
He'd be slogging it with a football podcast in the years to follow.
I wonder if the traders came up celebrity traders in Ireland.
I reckon James would be a banker for that.
I think they'd read you out.
I don't trust.
My trust levels are as he's zero.
I don't trust anyone.
Why is that?
Is that AI still for is it just?
It's basically from hanging around you for the last couple of years.
AI after is there with the Alstair selection.
He was telling us we picked the Alstair team on this part.
And Tommy's like, yeah, that's Alstair.
And then it comes out last Wednesday.
And it's like, wow, Tommy you snake in the grass.
I'll tell you what's happening.
Tommy's, he's a pure romantic right?
So he wants every country to have one one Alstair.
Do you know, that's what's happened here.
I'm surprised there was actually six from male.
It could have been only one from male of Tommy's pick.
He'd give him one teach county, 15 county smarter.
Yeah, I think because you actually said that on the part of Capruisco,
about the benefit of, you know, everyone getting one Alstair,
what it does for the county or does for the club.
So I think that was your angle with this top.
There was a big realm, our Tommy.
And this is now look, this could be AI.
It could be here say, but where are you pushing?
For Jordan Morris to get one of our table, too.
That's right. I heard back from the committee.
I would say I have people in that room, Tommy.
And you were pulling hard from me, that's.
And were you in general at helicopter as well?
Two weeks ago.
I wasn't. I wasn't.
Yeah.
But thankfully our loyal football pod listeners are a little bit more clued in.
They know that I'm one of 12 on the selection panel.
And, you know, is that only 12?
I thought it was more than 12.
The way the democracy works, you all get one vote.
So it's, um, Jordan Morris, I don't think Jordan masters have even nominated so far.
You don't think your information is incorrect there.
But I guess that was from one of your other 11 colleagues.
I think in a, in a, in a, in the world that you're insinuating there,
that, you know, I'd like it to be straight around the 15 different counties.
I wouldn't, I wouldn't at all.
And, uh, yeah, it's a, it's a tricky one.
That's, it's a tricky one.
I think, um, it's very difficult.
It's very difficult.
Tommy, just, just, uh, is it a case?
Oh, it's just.
So I love both. Is it so? So here's the anomalies for this position and each
All 12 votes. What I tell you if seven have picked Clifford. He's got
Was I lost? No, no, no, I'll tell you the challenge. He's a over your shoulder looking at your voice
No, he actually made a truck
There was a smart enough call made in the room early enough because obviously there's a
Typically the GA president would be the um
The I suppose the head of the the committee, but he made a cute enough decision when his son had been nominated to remove himself from the equation
At the time I was thinking
Should white was to point them even like I'd have no problem arguing either way, but it probably was a smart call
um
Because the way I'd say it is people are connected
Could be somebody in a club no obviously. Yeah, so on everyone knows it is a fairly direct one
But in jie like everyone
Everyone has a connection of some sort to somebody that's been nominated for an ulcer when you're in that room
So I in hindsight it was a very intelligent decision to leave. I'd say he thought he was only leaving for 20 minutes
Um, like our debate on the defense alone lasted well over an hour and a half
So patty just to give you an example of what way what way it happens is so obviously back in September
We had all met as a committee and we
argued and fought and decided over the 45 nominations, which you might think is an easy thing to do is a very difficult thing to do
Usually the first 35 37 38 are pretty easy and there's arguments then over the last seven. So they're all nominated
and
You then go away for a couple of weeks. You do your homework. Yeah
You look back on matches. You do a bit of digging
You may be trying to get a different perspective on what you may have seen or the notes you taken earlier in the year and
We met last wednesday and the monday before we met we were all due to submit our own 15 without consulting up
But I wouldn't consult anyone else and you walk into the room and
It's read out how many votes each player got
Oh, okay blindly, but
You know just say hypothetically parry Andrew's got
10 votes and James don't know who got 12
Somebody if they wanted to propose could say I'll be honest with you such and such got 10 votes
But I actually think
This person who got eight votes deserves a share
So can we actually put it back on the table and this happens quite a bit where
Do you know somebody?
Well, that's the way I would enter the room. I would enter the room with my 15 picked
I would say do you know what I'm locked in on 12 or 13 here
If you're not happy if you're not happy what the position is you just
You suggest another vote
No, I'm not talking about one to position. You're not listening to what I'm saying. There could be
Nine players that have been voted on
For for a position not everyone's gonna be given 12 votes secretly
So you could have 15 players that have gotten votes from somebody or 12 for example
Everyone could have picked one extra person
so
You know, I listen it's hard to get into the weeds of it like but like notice this I don't believe the room
I don't think you have multiple votes multiple votes in the room. It's out. I did
You could have players going up against chudder
You could have somebody then proposing that one of this this first bit a lot of football here
He could also go here. Yeah, I didn't really follow that that that closely is I'm not like
Would this be a better way to make I don't know you're in the room that like
For the number five position here's the three players that are nominated for that because at the minute isn't it just like
Here's the 20 defenders here's the 20 tell us and you can put your very you're you're a very intelligent man who watches a lot of football
And you also host the show on another platform
Like you know what's happening in the middle hey like you know how much the game is doing for the last two years
No
For the all-star. No, I totally disagree. I would actually have a very strong and I would have argued strongly that there should be a very
Strong demarcation between maybe your full-backed line
The middle okay, but that won't do it for this purpose on it. It would make a very black and white top
Would not listen party if he's out here is his three lads for five. No, I'd absolutely no interest in doing that time
I'm just saying
That is not a craft for some people like up here's your man's getting this position and he only played they're just putting in there because
He's not getting ahead of your fun
Just to let you know I think in previous years up until maybe
Six years ago that would have been it would have been done the opposite way and then there was a massive
Push for it to be flipped and on the other way, so I don't know if it's anyway keeping people happy fully
And I think there is ways it could be improved. I was on actually the touch and cop selection panel as well
And there was a lot of work and that going back and watching games some of them may not have caught life
But one of the really smart things that I thought was done just as a bank of data
Amara sprazen actually wrote about this as well was that we were given what each
Um county felt
Where their best opponents they come up against so you kind of had an extra
So the down full forwards what I said listen the best defenders we face this year was like no number four
So the GDA sent out like a survey
Yeah, so the players get a feedback as well for the touch and cop
I'm not saying that was the end all and be all but it formed a parody of maybe this is interesting the opinion you know
Um, there's a lot of question Tommy
just um
We were having this in the farm last week wasn't afraid the
Did you change your mind much but we obviously picked ours there is finally was a third week of July
So I'm telling you about like and it was an amazing chapter
At that period of the games were just like week and week and week it was relentless
So you're totally in it and we picked the team on this part
No, definitely for the other one that's picked you know for maybe four months later
Did you change
In the research over the couple of weeks leading up to the Alsters for much older task in July the somebody who give us one
I thought I'll can you give us a name we're going like I didn't have him in back in July
But jeez when I look back at
Kips or did that that or stats ago. Do you know what I'm gonna have to play them?
Can you say a name or not in that load
Because in fairness in fairness you time like watching a game that you're invested in at the time
You get a very different reading this if you were to watch that game two weeks later
Like very very different
Yeah, I'll be honest with you um
I haven't seen a huge amount of conquer Patrick live earlier in the year
I flipped yeah, come on. Yeah, I'm not gonna
I'm not gonna say many more because it's not fair to anyone, but like I did flip on midfield
um
I flipped. I'm just looking back on the team. I submitted for ourselves back in the day
Uh, he can't cut what the team was out of the match in the preliminary ulcer match, which was like two three years ago
Against early. I'm so long ago
So I two changes from the 13. I submitted for our football pod stars 13. I submitted um for the author
So did you reckon that the games that are on RTE on prime time like those players are more likely?
No, I don't think that I think that has to be a case now. Come on
Jay lad, if you think about it how it's changed right and this is the argument I make
And I know people are giving off with the spread. It was the biggest spread since 2010
But there are so many more games now
Hella voiced there are like so many more games to influence
Do you have ulcer or to your whatever like there's take talk. There's uh
Players are popping up more than they ever did before there's is I'm not saying anyone's judging on that stuff
But like the league is now connected to the championship
So like how much stock do you put into that you don't put a huge amount but I have to have a small bit of a bearing on it like
You know players
Indivision one in the league or
Indivision two who are fighting for their touch and corporate or samaguay or lives
That's a small bit of impact on us, but not a huge amount but like I felt this year maybe
Because of the all-arlin series um
That there was maybe a little bit less stock put in
It may be crow park that maybe it was done in in previous years there are some players I think that were so unlucky
And I would have argued for one or two of them definitely very strongly
Um because of their quarter final semi-final final that didn't make it and
I won't allow they definitely want to put it and I don't want to knock like for 15 guys who got them
It's amazing and you said at the time you were there and then I've seen reaction
It's a great thing for not just the players, but like their families and our clubs and
The county teammates but the club teammates and all the coaches. It's a it's a very cool thing to do
So fair play to the 15 lads who got amazing
I would have I would have had Jordan Flynn in there somewhere
I think he was absolutely pivotal for for male
And I look
Make a case for any male as it's the greatest season that our history have ever had
But I think he was so important to that and just forgot he's been around for a while and the improvement in his game
To to what he delivers
And maybe that's crow park focus that you know when the biggest moments and crow or I thought he was outstanding along with carny
So I was surprised he was the probably the biggest surprise. I know party Clifford
You know was injured for a lot of the championship, but then again when
Chips were down. He was absolutely key for carrying in that room
But I think Jordan Flynn if it was swapping one person and I think I would have put Jordan Flynn in there
That would be my you see the thing in the argument the argument is right
You do have so many games and an awful lot of games right no daughter, but a lot of them televised
But a lot of them are kind of early on the championship and the championship hasn't necessarily got to
the fever pitch oh it has yeah fever pitch yes and from being there before I
100% know that it's a lot harder to play well in the quarterfinals semi-finals
than in your province or maybe in the group or whatever especially semi-finals
so I do agree with those being weighted a little bit heavier but of course
there's an argument then to say why would you you know it's a team being
picked way would you discredit the fellow who's not even in that game I will see
the argument but to me a fellow to stand up and deliver in the semi-finals
fine there's a completely different pressure at that level completely
different so it says an awful lot more about a player in my opinion you know the
arguments you're both making there like these are the arguments that are
happening in the room like I can tell you now I'm not afraid to look across the
table and tell someone that I see it a certain way and it likes to count up
keys or do I count well or a carocaine or a quinoe connolly or Gary Doyle they're
all seeing similar and these are the conversations that are going back and forth
so if the tree was to spend the next hour on the pod you know we were to talk
it out do you know that's I think that's trying to tell me anything it is
objective as this and I 12 people trying to agree 12 angry men and women that
great yeah do you know what we actually see yeah
what was what was the the just give me a sample of the conversation just
and I'm party Clifford for example right when it was just give me a little
fear like party but like I'm not gonna give exactly what was said but like you've
essentially echoed what was said for boat like and like you know just take
for example someone like Stephen O'Hannan right Steve like to me Stephen O'Hannan
had an absolutely exceptional year like an unbelieveable year and he probably
could have nominated a wingback or wing forward so Stephen O'Hannan also did
a number on three players that were nominated for all stars like he was
designated to go back on them they had been picked out as the most dangerous
player in the opposition go back in them and do a job going to you to back it but
he been dropping back as a wing forward to pick them up and and attack from
there you know so those mid-late position are fluid like the most common
boys again you know like geez Dima Marta had unbelievable
Jimmy didn't have him in the top 100 forwards and I did actually he did
actually but like Mark that's up against like James you're saying there about
the the way to think later in the year like that those come into it like at
times but like it's the rest is what I'm like what fork turned around the
mom yeah you could say the same better my except the same but my mom won't do
star championship three clean this up maybe they yeah but was common with the
Khan of championship under three division one teams and Connocked so the
Russian kid I know Rossi's got no no the Rossi's were probably feel like they've
been screwed over a little bit and Daryen and Daphne was was in the show as
well but like patty I'm sure there was years where you felt like you should have
in the mix for all this there personally yeah um oh ten different answers
commit his head and then he got no I could be honest I was way to be one of the
nice I was faster than he actually he's got a proxy penalty into the
half wasn't even a pen on to my sync look out the wrong way he's still in
there beautiful it nominated a few times never happened to me I want to
love this time he was in the corner there that committee room I would have
loved that tell me if you were in there fight the fight he told you you were in
you know it's not easy time and honestly it is everyone who gets one
definitely do deserve one and you can't argue against anyone that's in
it's bought there's always going to be an argument about who is left out
general like that's just the way it is but I mean you can't you're having to
be realistic we like I love Jordan for you but you're in the play who you don't
want to take anyone else and yeah exactly from a don't know perspective for
school it can have to say it's not your fault okay now that's fair I am not a
Robin Williams my head is big but it's not that big to think that I'm the only
one making the decision there so don't worry about that but what I would say is
that like we always should be having arguments about it and disagreeing or
saying who we think should be in or whatever but like maybe it's just the way
social media is gone I just think sometimes this course on it can just be
septic like like we're talking about it's giving up on it's giving up yeah it's
45 people who've been nominated surely a good chunk of them shall be in the
mix so what was it bad on socials or no but you know yourself James I don't
know where you keep an eye on social media but it can just I do I'm off at
top hey huge amount of stock you're off of I'm on the detox oh yeah I said I've
had a addiction to tick-tock very bad so I could sit down and if I went down
I'm a rabbit hole of the ass there's something I could do two hours and a lot
of the conspiracies with this fellow knows this one said you know I know bow
know I was going to get the brick but I just said delete the apps but I'm trying
to do it for as long as I can delete the action could show yeah that's to be
done it can be but it's not good for the mind it is it's terrible here in
November like sponsors of this show yeah I have like I have watched full movies
and tick-tock in three-minute clips I thought I said it's not good that you are weird
awesome I know it's shocking why don't we do it? Should we do it like a legal
statement the same as J.A. Plus if you spend your licenses I have I pay for
J.A. Plus and clobber no you don't you just think you have to dodge your box
don't tell me after I've never played once for the host of ships I have a
trip I was you get the media pass you get the media pass and do you know what
though I'd love to do that sometime but I don't think I can afford to do it in
the job that I'm in but I can appreciate I get off those media but I can
do it yeah I can appreciate you doing it like it do you want me to run your account
for you while you're gone so I'm not very active in it but it's really right it
doesn't trust you and it's true it's just a good night tummy was it a good night
ah when you were there look it it's I was saying to you earlier on you you come
across you have really nice conversations with say family of people who are
involved even people who haven't won you know you're bumping into family of
of players that have been nominated and they're there and they're just so
happy to be there and enjoying the night and and I think even being nominated is
a he may sniff at it but I do think it's a significant achievement when
you're not and actually it's interesting to me to call out and win a
manager Andy Moran was on the pod last week pardoned down very well by the way
thanks to Andy for joining us the course but he made the point themselves when
you're not from when you're from outside don't really carry I think it might
mean a little bit more because there aren't huge amount of honors in
our island or national recognition going around so I think it's pretty good
like you look at loud for example James we're saying it's like we were at the
that night and loud before their their all-round and semi-final and the football
mad people in the room that day and and how much they absolutely adored our
county and there was a we fundraiser going on and they had a jersey up with
their tree ulcers patty keen and Craig Lennon and Samuel Roy haven't signed
this and they were like just in case we get one later this year we'll get that
person to sign it for you to like that that's four footballers ever in 55
years that he ulcers that loud of one and they're on the last 15 years or so
like so that's cool for them Ron and Wallace when I'm one from Westmaid from
multi-final yeah but that's a tiny little village in Westmaid you know Ron and
Farronham is one a Ron and Wallace is one of a couple hundred people in
multi-final and one of them is an ulster and there was a table of Westmaid
boys there Brandon Kelly Sam McCarrick and Mathew Whitaker who it was in
many people's teams yeah Whitaker would've been disappointed with that because now
it's very it was very 50-50 I think one of the boys was going to get it wasn't
it was going to be one of them got that wing backs bar I feel like that was a
head it was a head the head I think it was because they weren't going to get
two their best players are arguably the two wing backs this year but they
weren't going to get two wing backs in you know realistically and again
we've been disappointed for Whitaker now and this is something people might miss
like Ron and Wallace played with five on his back for a lot of year but he
actually played wing forward for a lot of years but he couldn't flip him with
with someone as well but like you should see Mathew Whitaker how happy he was
for his team it obviously because you know I yeah obviously the individual award
is something but like you know I won't say I won't say I won't say here I was
chatting to but I was chatting to one award winner who just
He was totally dismissed that he was like, it's all about the team like, it was like, I don't think he even said it was great.
He taught you a word of wire and I'll tell you, maybe it takes, maybe it was a bit late and I don't know what it was.
That is the parity line.
I don't know what it is.
Kind of Frosted's fella, he's kind of caught from that clawed if you know what I mean.
Yeah, no, it is, it is after, but I want to, I just enjoy the night, don't get too carried away what I would say.
But I suppose there is, the whole thing is getting a bit like the whole ban on door and odd.
It's getting, it is getting into these individual awards, they're getting more popular.
I don't think that's a GA.
I don't think so.
I think it's going to get there.
Do you think?
I think anyone there at the other night knows they'd swap any of that for another.
I think there's a bit.
I don't think it's that much.
Someone did a Trent Alexander Arnold interview.
You're a hero in the other hand.
Or a star.
Wow, star.
Yeah, but it is a nice thing.
Do you know, I still, the biggest scandal, the biggest scandal of the Oscars in recent years was soupy camera.
Not even getting nominated.
Oh, no, don't bring that 20 or 24 when they won it.
He won.
The man decided the championship.
I even invited to the end of season dinner.
Yeah, that's a good scandal.
Yeah, I think I was a plus one left.
That's a disgrace.
I felt like I'm doing my resignation after you won that year.
I'll be honest with you.
I think enough time has passed.
I get more exercise about the nominations than the actual Oscars.
Because what was the thing you were saying?
It's great to be nominated.
What does that mean?
What I do think it's a.
You know, it is, but still don't want the managers come out saying we should have this for the nominated, that for the nominated, you know.
I don't think anyone is.
That is too much to manage or say.
Yeah, about a few in the last couple of seasons.
How's the night for fun now?
I actually met a friend here.
James met a friend of deer moths.
Yeah.
Who is he?
He's a man and his wife.
Their name is Joseph.
We were leaving the ODS and they happened to be sitting in an eight-seater taxi.
This is going to sound bad on my behalf.
And there were six of us looking for a taxi.
I need to pop the head in.
Hi.
How are you?
I'm alright.
And we got you.
He's not a taxi.
And he goes to Jesus.
Yeah, no bother.
And then we're, I'm chatting.
You had no text.
No, no.
He got the taxi behind with his wife.
And then we're chatting away for a couple of minutes.
And he goes, we've got friends with Tearment.
But you might just try and figure out who that was.
Who did Tommy really kick out of a taxi?
I'm putting on another attack.
That's what you're talking about.
Who would they be there with or what was the connection?
They were just up for the author, but they were a legion.
They were legion people anyway.
Lovely people.
But, uh, but yeah.
Good night, Lads.
The football part of an basketball.
It was brought to you by the November ahead of the game.
Already reached over 16,500 players.
Parents and coaches across Irish clubs with the tools.
Look after the mental health.
Visit ahead of the game.movember.com
to find out how you can be a part of it.
And as I mentioned, there are a number of workshops
taking place this month for anyone involved in coaching.
That are well worth checking out as well.
So, um, we're going to take quick break.
And we're going to come back talking a bit of football.
'Cause Paddy's going to bring us inside.
Bridges and, uh, some of the other big games happening around
the country this weekend.
O-T-B-G-A-A.
All right, Paddy Anders.
I caught a lot of distance on social media.
Same Bridges 1, the senior B in Dublin.
Senior two championship.
Same Bridges 3,16.
Same Vincent's 25.
Two big dogs up against the shoulders.
Same Bridges 1,4,2 on penalties.
I saw one of the penalties.
'Cause I would be friendly with, uh, one of your former teammates.
And I saw his penalty come off one post.
And I think strike another and go back in.
And then all the standards.
Great man.
What's the story of the sound?
The great man.
That's always been the thing with any time Bridges
had a bit of a run on the championship.
They won the first.
They only won the Dublin Championship twice.
The 2000 and 3 and 11.
Hmm.
And they won the Lancer.
And today was on 3 and we'd ask the final in 11.
So, real Christmas time.
The old red noise.
So, it was great to see.
You're right.
It was like, that was the championship final.
Less than 20 years ago.
Presistant Vince.
Senior one final.
And Vinnie's won.
Packet was planned.
Last year quit.
Thermal colony.
They were done on 1-D hour.
I think the beat.
Vinnie's would have beat Neymor Rangers.
Wasn't Neymor Rangers.
In the final.
And the final stage.
So, both these teams.
Bit of a file from Grace.
They're both big clubs.
Big numbers and big tradition in the Dublin.
And the senior two final.
But they're both promoters.
So, the two finalists get from all the back to the senior one championship.
Bridges have been in it for seven years now.
So, putting away some great to see them.
Get back up into senior one.
And then to win it.
And by all accounts.
An absolute classic.
45 in the last kick of the game.
To level up.
Level up to actual time.
Then a penalty showed up.
So, it's a nice way to win it.
But Bridges and Vinnie's are back in the senior one championship next year.
That's it.
Down Santa Claus and all the younger.
Younger crew get the experience with that in the club is important.
Of all the clubs that end up in the board's head this autumn.
St. Bridges.
They're there.
They're their mostly guys.
Maybe that's part of the problem.
Maybe they can't.
They can't go on any further.
No.
No.
Yeah.
Okay.
But there is the intermediate championship.
They can't go in the championship.
Yeah.
But this is the senior, so many senior clubs.
They have a senior too.
There's relegation and the motion from senior.
An intermediate.
A room below them.
It's a little bit like Cork.
Yeah.
Where Evliura in Cork won the premier.
Senior, I think, or the premier to media.
Chris O'Jones scoring 110.
Outshone by his younger brother Ian Jones.
Cause wreck with three two.
So I think Chris O'Jones outscored him.
But Ian with a hat trick in the man in the match ward.
With a very impressive win against Cishkaim.
4-22 to 23 points.
Jimmy's.
New favorite.
Old Jones player.
I'm a fan of the old Joneses.
A big rise.
They're not the old Joneses.
It's not Ian Jones.
It's the old Joneses.
Yeah.
No.
It's not Ian Jones.
I think we should go with the old Joneses.
Maybe we'll go to.
I'll be honest.
I thought they were dangerous.
I'm not sure what Ian Joneses County credentials are.
If he's played a huge amount of Cork underage football.
But if Chris O'Jones is a dangerous disease.
This fella is a serious operator as well.
Jesus.
He caused wreck and a similar get.
No, maybe he's older, actually, but.
Mark, give us a quick spin around.
The County Finals.
Because we're at the provincial season now.
True November.
I think we're going to get into our Ireland containers in a minute.
Because our last two senior winners of the year were crowned this weekend.
In Limerick, we had four cases.
Pete, you could die more.
Palace, Henry.
I'm not sure did you catch Kyle Hayes with the socks pulled up.
Yeah.
It's a very effective footballer.
He was involved with codimals run.
They had knocked out last year's champions.
Mongered after extra time in the semi final.
A photo case is getting the job done.
Adrian N Wright.
A couple of big scores for them.
Peter Nash.
And a 20 year wait for them.
So that was huge.
They're out in Abbey Field.
Aren't they?
Photo cases.
Abbey Field.
Jimmy.
They're on the carry board.
Yeah.
Anyway.
Okay.
You must have a film.
Play with them.
I want to play.
We're in Paris at the Legion, baby.
She won't go much further than that.
I'll carry on.
We're going to be in trouble today.
Big win.
Big win.
Sorry.
Peter Nash was actually playing with codimals.
And a top scored for them.
But a photo case pulled away.
And then in a kill there.
Saras Fields.
Getting the better of a minute team.
That were obviously back in the final in the first time.
They're an awful long time.
A minute following short in the Hurlin and football finals.
And had a big crowd there in Newbridge.
But Saras Fields were just had that little bit more.
I think up front.
Yes.
Hmm.
I think it was a long time for a minute forward to score.
Need a flame.
And then McDonald getting points in the second half.
But their goalkeeper, McDonald and with his 2.3s.
That's been keeping them in touch.
Up to that.
Shay Ryan.
Very impressive.
First Saras Fields.
Call of Bolton.
Very good as well.
So Saras Fields now have the pleasure, I suppose,
or the challenge of facing Kula, the Dublin Champions,
in the Lens Recorder Final.
So will I give you a bit of a run-through on where
the provincials are at?
And then you might let me know what you think your contenders are.
Please, Tommy.
Please.
A week, a week after winning.
They're very first to own Senior Football Championship.
Eden Dork in the Old Surprimary Quarter Final.
Went to Clendolf.
Got the better of them.
Very measured, very mature performance, I felt,
for the most part.
Nine Morgan, obviously in goals from Darma Curry,
Causing Reck once more.
And Conca Patrick won an all-star tonight beforehand.
Having a big impact as well.
If that was savage going with no turn-around time,
I did that.
It was six days there.
I think it was maybe Friday to Saturday, so eight days.
So.
Jesus is such a small window.
I think they had Friday night Saturday night,
Sunday night celebrations.
Call ahead to it then.
No more in the club.
Into train and choose the Thursday.
Match Saturday.
Con at the All-Series Friday.
But you could see their managers talking afterwards.
And I could see young Ben Cullen,
who was brilliant in the county final replay.
Go out of injured at one stage.
And send the injuries they're building up.
So they're facing another team that have won their first.
I think they're the only clubs, actually.
in the country that I've won their first titles.
Same Bridget's name, breed of Androm,
who were founded back in 1998,
up against Eden Dorke this weekend.
So the four or three quarter finals this weekend,
Eden Dorke against same Bridget's Gownef and Kavan,
who will fancy themselves, they had that much,
up against Cross McLean from Arama,
who will forever be contenders,
especially when the three on Neil Brodors
are playing as well as they are.
Mara Felt, who had upset the odds of touch in Derry,
by getting the better of Newbridge, who were going for Trina Roe.
So Mara Felt have the likes of Orn Lynch and a clatter of Derry Bois.
After Double Check, that one with Emma Klowski is there yet,
is McAvoy there as well as all McAvoy Mara Felt as well?
- There you go. - Could be right there.
It's a quality,
McAvoy is there too yet.
It's a quality Mara Felt side.
So they're up against Cross McLean this,
or sorry, Scots down this week.
So Scots down have won six titles this weekend already.
- So they have won six titles.
- Is there an all-art in the Scots down today?
Come on.
- Cultivator. - Very tough.
- Very tough. - Acacia Paddy.
- What do you guys think? - I'm asking you.
- No, well, you're the, you're on the,
I'll start committee.
- Who's?
- You're the, you're the expose.
As Scots down, Andy, Andy Merrick, come on.
- Are the Bridges.
- Are the Bridges out of them last time I'm going to get it though.
They've been knocking on the door, hanging around there.
- Yeah.
- We're talking contenders here.
So you put them, are you putting Scots down in your all-art
Scottsdown, Ulster Champions. British. Kind of champions. Bruges, I don't know, here on tent,
that's what we're here for. Bruges, if anyone to contact you. Cool, I wouldn't let Serena do
not. Neymaranges are gonna do a number on Crocs and win the Monster Championship. And what,
what have you seen? Who let me give you that conviction? Colin Carcree 20 years ago. Neymar went
from one circle of rock. So it's got me Neymar, I think Kula, I would hide them straight,
but like Tula Mord, maybe beat them until we get them. Okay, Kula, that's the champions,
Neymaranges are the most champions. Bruges just comes on Connick Champions. Sorry, Selltale.
I'm sorry, Castle Bar. It's Scottsdown for the Ulster. And the all-our-numbering team,
this year, 20-27, and the American, is going to be. What's happening, though? You're just
could, you're just jumping straight to the. So do we not need to do another pod now until February?
I think Kula, Kula, are just such a machine at the moment. I mean, they'll get through Lester.
Crocs and Neymar, Ero could spoil the party there. Who has Ero time? Is it Neymar? No,
Eroger playing Rack Gormag and Waterford. They're playing Waterford first, yeah. And the winner
plays Crocs, yeah. I would not be looking too far past Rack Gormag in Waterford. That is a tricky
tie-down. Oh, yeah. It is, but Eroger, their experience is what they've been around the last,
at five out of the last six, we're after winning it, Incler. Mm-hmm. Yep, yeah. And then you've got
Neymaranges. They must have been thinking. Too fancy drugs to me. Are you being a little bit
because they're local rivals there? Yeah, that is 100%. And. You're not back. As well,
but like, there is also. Kerry was so competitive this year. Like, the team that got spore
got to the county championship semi-fine in the last of the Crocs, right? They got relegated
back to Intermediate. So, like, you have the two competitions, the club championship,
and the senior championships. So, I don't know. Usually, when the Crocs go far or when someone
goes far or they carry their. They're by far and away at the best. You know, I don't think that
that's necessarily the case at the moment. It'll be interesting to see, but I think that if someone
puts it up to them, they could have a chance. And as well, the longer this goes on into the winter,
the football changes come in. Yeah, it's different, different sport. Complete different
fellas come into it. You know, maybe you're more physical players, you're fitness-based players.
So. I might change my monster prediction because I just remembered I played the Dr. Crocs
golf class at the last week. So, I'm going to change my monster in the hope to be invited back next
year. I think the monster champions will be Dr. Crocs. Do you want to deal with that? Yeah, okay. I do. Yeah,
please. Thanks, class. Yeah, I covered Nemo. There are a couple of weeks back. They're up against
Lacmo and Casalini this weekend. I think there was monster, those monster semi-fine or
going to be quite interesting. Nemo and Lacmo and Casalini. I think Lacmo and Casalini,
it's been tough for them. The last couple of years, a lot of the same group,
but there could be a sting in that tail there. Core clubs haven't done
well lately. The buyers are very unlucky last year against Dingle. Remember the late dramatic
two great classes. Yeah, but it's a different game again. It's a different game again this year.
But hey, the games I've been to, it's the amount of space in front of the football backlight. If
you have a good football backlight and you can tackle yourself up the top end of the field,
you have a great chance. Have one inside forward who will take his goal chances.
Sure enough. Yeah, the monster profile last year was arguably the best football match of the season.
Was that played in the samples? The first week in the sample, that was played? Yeah,
in the sample. And that was one of the best matches of the entire season. So hopefully we'll see
bit more of the next month. And all conditions are cheerful. Did we play at Dingle? We're involved in
three outrageous games last year. The monster final, the semi-final against. Valley Bolden.
Valley Bolden. And then the final officer against Bridget. Yeah, the way it's fallen,
this year just for in case anyone hasn't realized that the ulcer champions will face the Lenser
champions on the first week of the January and the monster champions will take on the Conor
champions with the final then two weeks later, I believe it's seven days later. I think that's
a gem. There you go. Grimmest days. My wife's birthday. Oh, maybe party will get by there.
You're jumping ahead a lot here, Pat. You're just jumping. Let's get into the national league
predictions. Okay, do you want the fixtures there? I just to give you the Lenser quarter one,
because I'm excited. No, you're just intent on cutting across me. Just so I give the other
fixtures we have got. So I'll turn up the car at up against Balamore, Sean O'Haston's,
over the literal. St. Bridget's from Wisconsin, up against St. Mary's of Slogal,
and the Mulligan, Patti, operating with St. Mary's at the moment. No, Bridget's fine. Yeah, you can
down for a few years. Yeah, there you go. In Lenser, the following week then we've got Sarah's
fields up against Koola. So two weeks there to that one, Radvilly from Caroleau, up against
Port Arlington. From Lee's shoe, up the same record of Scottsown over the last little oil,
but haven't made a huge dent in Lenser. It's got a manager. Part Arlington. Yeah.
Manifida's in. No, I don't know, Swings. Sarah's field. No, I don't feel the Sarah's fields.
No, but James. I never think before you talk. I always said part Arlington. I was like,
Roman Swings, right? I don't know, but we can't be getting
more field and Sarah's fields mixed up because we'll be killed for that. More field. Exactly.
There you go. More field. That's what I said. So we've got on to her, Roundwood, up against
Wildtones, and then Kylan Aaron from Waxford, who got the better of Newtown Blues at the weekend,
just held him off in injury time, up against the Downs from Westmead. So Sarah's fields, Koola,
Radvilly and Port Arlington, Patti, on the same side of that Lenser draw. So yeah, it's going to
be an interest in November. And those finals are then the 5th and 6th of December and the final
day in November, the 29th, 30th November as well, which is the weekend that we're going to London.
So we won't be covering the game that weekend. We'll be in London for that our show with Wands
with Gales and Kingdom Carry Gales. You boys still looking forward to that? I'm having a clean
November up to then. No social media, I'm also, yeah. No points. Until after that show on the 27th.
We have a fight in the airport to me. I'm not afraid, it's just a loosen.
I'm being carried out on my own. Patti Andrews, James Adonu, thanks very much.
I will talk to you in a couple of weeks. Well done boys.
The football part, on Afterball. Brought to you by November, ahead of the game.
