I sound amazing. Welcome back to The Toast, and happy Tuesday. I hope everybody had a great night. I did. Watch The Family Stone, so I wouldn't say it was like a great night. We both did our homework. I watched the Emmys, you watched The Family Stone, so we could come here today and discuss both at nausea. And the streets were really interested to hear what I would think about The Family Stone. And as predicted, did you feel like S.J.P. was the victim? For a minute. But like, they changed quickly for her. No, no. And actually, at one point, the family did take it too far. And the kitchen, when she dropped that thing on the floor. Oh, no, but by then they were all good because she really redeemed herself with that present, which actually brought a tear to my eye. By the time-- Oh, so I haven't seen the movie in a while. What was the present? She got everyone. And she's passing out the same gift to everyone, so we're like, what did you get, everyone? And they all opened in. It's like a frame photo of the mom, Cible, just like looking very beautiful and pregnant and like radiant. Oh, that's nice. And they were just all moved to tears. I would say by the time the sister came, like, S.J.P. is doing better. She's obviously hard to root for. Like, what was she doing and saying at the dinner table? No, dinner table. Like, girl, shut up. What? Shut up. And when she was like, she was like, that's not what I mean, that's not what I mean. And then her boyfriend was like, why don't you say what you mean then? Like, just find the words to say what you mean because it sounds really bad. Georgia Rule is her boyfriend at the time, right? Dermit Milroni. Dermit Milroni. And then she swirled her leaves with Owen Wilson, right, like the derelict brother. Yes. And then the sister goes with Dermit. So it's great. But unfortunately, she still has to join this family that she was never right for in the first place. And I guess we'll see how that turns out in the long-awaited sequel. Yeah, I guess there will be like a lot of kids. Why was the, not that you would know this because you barely remember the movie, but why was the husband of the pregnant daughter, not there? Who, I don't even know what you're talking about. I haven't seen this in a long time. The daughter Susanna, she's like, she's pregnant and she also has a kid already. And her husband, like literally only comes on Christmas morning, like, walks in and says Mary Christmas. Like, he wasn't there. I don't know. Like, why? I don't know. Yeah, if someone could sound off if I miss something, like, is he in the armed forces? I don't know. I watched the M.A.'s one because it's my job and two because like, I did have to support the main track of television, Miss Mershka Hargitay. And like, I'm sure we'll talk about it in the stories and we'll go through like all the winners and stuff. But in her monologue, first of all, she was cracking me up. Like, she did a good job. And I feel like a lot of the times when you're a comedian, you write a lot of the jokes. But she's just like an actress in a house like, everything was written for her. So I was a little bit afraid that like, it wouldn't be like, good or personal. It was funny. Like, obviously some of this chick was stupid. But she did what she was supposed to do. She brought Jalen Brunson and Taylor Swift into her pre-recorded sketches and like, thank you, Quaid. And we got like 11 lawn-awder jokes. Like, thank you. That's all we need for me. And, oh, and in her monologue, she was like, I'm the first woman to host the Emmys in 15 years. And like, seriously, she shouldn't have said that because that's genuinely embarrassing, like for Hollywood, which claims to be like this extremely inclusive, progressive institution. It's like, wait, we're still doing that, like first woman. Like, what? It was just kind of like awkward when she said it. I guess, but it also like, it makes it a huge woman for her. So she should get her power. No, of course. She should not get them because they should be embarrassed. Of course, but like every speech, you know, every, you know, classic award show stuff, even though I found that it wasn't like a terribly annoying award show. No one was being like so patronizing. They just love to say what we do is so important, we're storytellers. It's like, yeah, by the way, that's fine with me. But what firefighters do is so important. Do you know what I mean? Like, they just were putting themselves on the same level as firefighters. And they're like, where are the fires? Correct. Like this just sense of like real importance. And like Sally Field, she was like, it started in the caves and the fires and it's like, okay, like you're just like doing movies, whatever, just like I actually enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. And the, I think I need to watch Widow's Bay. I've never heard of it until last night and it won every award. And so it was a lovely evening for the for the small screen. I'm so glad. The last few award shows I've watched. I've like deeply regretted and I think I'm in a place of boycott right now. So I was not going to watch the Emmy. I'm glad I had homework to do because I maybe would have felt conflicted. But like, no, no, it got really bad towards the end of last award season. So I'm on there. There are various types of award shows, right? Like music, TV. I find the music ones like way more tolerable because at the end of the day, we're getting performances. Yeah, you are. And even if you don't agree with the winners or you find it like, you still get music. That's always fun. There was one performance last night during the in memoriam with Noah Khan. So like, it wasn't like, um, I didn't watch it. Why? It sounds so sleep. It was only at the end. Like, I'm sorry. It was such a long award show. And I think there was a tribute to Dolly. I was there. I felt like I saw this morning. There was like, Reba and Oh, oh, I miss something huge. Who was? I'm sorry. Like, I gave two hours of my time. I feel that if you can't get the whole show in in the two hours. And maybe if you took less commercial breaks, that was insane. It was literally like one award commercial break, one award commercial break, so many commercial breaks. I give people complain about the ads on this show, like take your complaints to the Hollywood farm press. Like, that was an insane amount of commercials. And at least we do ours with like style and pizzazz and comedy. Like, oh, my God, it was dreadful. It's here. Sally Field and Reba led an emotional tribute to Dolly Parton at the Emmys. Oh, I must have missed that. My bad. But I feel that I saw the large, the gist of the program. Yeah. Yeah. So big winner was widow's Bay, anything else, noteworthy? Um, like she, we're going to talk about like some of the noteworthy things for me, Emmys, that like everyone will care about. But I just want to say, Mariska did a great job. We got like her whole family there, Peter Herman, like anytime we get the Herman, hard to take crew out of the house. It's a good day. Do you think this is the, because now I'm remembering our conversation about Mariska hosting the Emmys and like my prediction that she will be like the next Kelly Clarkson. Um, oh, did you say that because I was thinking last night that she's actually giving Kelly like she could be the next household name in this country, America's sweetheart. You know, products, line, TV show. She's just like very warning. She's got the Rachel Ray formula. Yes. Um, so do you think that last night was the beginning of like Mariska Incorporated 1,000 percent. You want to know why she was not divisive at all. She didn't make any political jokes. And I think like we always say about Kelly, the reason why a lot of people can't fill her shoes is because they almost can't help themselves, but like put their personal thoughts and agenda and political and which I totally understand. That's why we said pink wouldn't be a good host because she's like a prince because she's very principled on a lot of political issues. I feel that Mariska just wanted to entertain. And I think that she would make an amazing Kelly and like I'm ready for the way fair for Mariska, Mariska Hargote for a way fair line. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. She's on her way. I feel like we're going to see more of that. And she gave us like looks to like she changed every time she came on stage. She did a hilarious game of thrones, but like she was actually cracking me up. She's funny. Like we don't get to see her in that light a lot because she's like a sex crimes detective. But she was like joking just about like she said something funny. She was like I won my first Emmy in 2000, whatever for Olivia Benson, everybody clapped. And she's like and I want a number of them since that day. That number being zero. She was just funny. She had good delivery. She looked like seriously a plus choice. I never would have thought like so random, but she is she doesn't even get enough credit just because she's so like embedded in culture. She's literally the matriarch of daytime television, not even daytime. She's holding it together. Yeah. And she like what is they're going on to their 20th season. Like she doesn't get enough credit for being the hardest working woman in Hollywood. I think credit starts now. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful journey from Rishka. Yeah. Maybe like her. She was raising her kids. So she was happy just to have this like consistent gig with La Notta. It films in New York. She lives in New York. She doesn't have to like miss out on the recitals and stuff. But now because I saw picture of her kids, they're like kind of grown like little preteens. So maybe now she can start doing things outside of just Olivia Benson, a home wear line, a cooking show. No more recitals. No more recitals. Yeah. I got the vibe that like maybe this is kind of like a like a Debbie Tantkeetson-Yara, like a coming out party for more. Yeah. She's the beginning of I think the five point plan. I live and I love live left love, Rishka, like probably like new representation. They have a new board. Yep. She definitely like needs the backing of like a VC firm to take her product line, her beauty line, and just make it come to life. Maybe like food line. Yeah. Big salon out news. We actually have great stories today. Actually four out of the five stories could have been number one story of the day. So the first four will be in like no particular order, but just know like they're all fighting for the number one spot. We also have to your posters. But it's usually the opposite. Like none of these stories are a number one story. That's unusual. I've never had this problem of four number one. Yeah. This is a great problem to have. Yeah. But so don't be like, oh, why is like Macklemore number four? Like he could be number one on a different day. I don't feel that he would ever be number one, but that story is what could have been number one. No, sorry. I was just saying like Macklemore in general. The story could be maybe it will be number one. Let's see where the conversation goes, but that's big news. We also have to your toasters and we also just like have a lot to do. I won't really tell you too much, but I did want to say talk about one thing I went down a rabbit hole yesterday. I'm not sure if anyone's following.
Because it's all happening in Europe, like Celine Dion's big comeback. So I watched her documentary, if you've seen the documentary, like you know, she was diagnosed with stiff persons syndrome in 2021 and she basically lost all motor function. Her documentary was chilling because she had like a live seizure on the documentary while she was getting a massage and they kept the whole thing and it was like very graphic and deeply disturbing. But I think that it was a real window into what it's like to live with that chronic illness. And over the years, you know, we've heard from her very briefly, she did perform at the Olympics. That was like a really big deal. I do believe her condition got way worse after that. And then a little while ago, I remember she went on Hoda and was talking about how like she's in the process of rebuilding now, like basically how like, you know, when you get in a car crash, you have to learn how to walk, like she had to learn how to do everything. And that includes singing. She like lost complete control of her vocal cords. So she's literally taught herself how to sing. And over the weekend, she had her first show back. I think it was in France, Brian Kelly was there, so I was like following the whole thing through Brian's Instagram. And now I've seen like a million clips. It is actually like, it's the craziest thing to watch. First of all, her voice sounds completely different. Like you can tell it's almost sounds like a different person singing. And first of all, she sounds amazing. She doesn't sound like herself. And I feel that, you know, she, she sounded like everything was so much harder for her. Like she used to belt out these lyrics, like not even move. Like it was nothing to her. She's so focused. She's trying so hard. She sounded incredible. It's very emotional. Like you have to watch these videos. Of course, she's serving looks and she's like still being her Celine Dion self, but she sounds really different. But it's literally amazing to see somebody like literally completely rebuilt, just basically teach them. So it's like literally we sat down one day. It was like, I'm going to learn how to sing like, couldn't even talk. It's the most insane thing ever. She's such a queen. And I do think now she's going to go like do a series of shows, not just this one comeback show. It's a beautiful thing to watch. I think it's very inspiring to people with chronic illnesses, like especially stiff person syndrome. Yeah. Wow. You see the videos. You do have to see the videos. Like it's insane. It's very emotional. I'm curious to hear what she sounds like if it's so different. It's so different. And then I think her big thing was like she really wanted to hit that one note. And all by myself, it's like, and that's like her whole, that's like her thing, her whole life. I think that's what I made her famous back in the day. The video of it, first of all, she slighted it. Like she hit it hardcore. I saw some other videos. She doesn't hit every note. It's not a perfect performance. She's like literally rebuilding. But this particular note, like I think means the world to her, it was, like I actually started crying when I watched it. It was beautiful. Like really beautiful. Oh, wow. It's kind of one of the great tragedies of our time. Like Celine Dion is one of the greatest vocalists in the modern era, like maybe in the last 100 years. And she got diagnosed with this illness that robbed her of that. And it's kind of a modern tragedy. Yeah. Her documentary was so sad. If you haven't seen it, it's on prime. Yeah. Okay. I remember. I remember. I just wanted to share that really annoying fun fact. That's a good fun fact. Yeah. You don't forget. You're free to share that at your will. Do you feel, like sometimes you forget famous people that you've met? Maybe. But I think I forget fun facts. You know, what people would be like, what's like the craziest thing that's ever happened? Or like, you know, we just had this conversation about Close On Sunday. Yeah. Right. Who do you think is the most famous person you've ever met? I can't even rack my brain. And what do you mean met like either taking a photo with or chatted with like not just been in the same room because yeah, okay, Taylor Swift, I went to our concert. We were in the same room. No, but we're like, do you do a meet and greet? That counts. That counts. Changed words, photos, glances, that counts. Besides me, obviously, um, who was I just like, I met Miley Cyrus once. That's what I was thinking. The most famous. That's like my most famous celebrity, like run in, you know, that's different than like being an advent or something. Yeah, like before he was who he is now, and he was just sort of like the wonder kid building spaceships. I met Elon Musk at like a party, and he was like, I love your blog, and I was like, okay, and I always forget that that happened because he's like, Elon then is different than Elon now. But I feel like that's probably the most famous person I've ever met. That's a very famous person. Yeah. And even understand the magnitude of it at the time. I've met Kim. I've met Kim. Yeah. Yes, I've met Kim. Yeah. Yeah. Just genuinely like one of the ugliest photos together. And she's the most famous person in the world. So that's the most famous person. And did you meet him like a work, like you wouldn't even know. It was probably like 10 years ago, but like it was a work event. It was, um, I feel like it's not bringing up any memories in it. It wouldn't. I would, I like, I think it was like a corporate thing, corporate back in my corporate days. Oh, okay. Oh, let's read a Williams. That's like really up there too. That was a corporate meeting. Yeah. Corporate meeting of the minds. Yeah. Cool. Very cool. Super. I love celebrities. Super cool. Super cool. Super cool. Yeah. I feel like I'm not girl. Like I'm literally Megan Foxx in confessions of a teenage drama queen. Like I feel that my worth is directly tied to like, how many celebrities are in that. You are. Megan and Stew Wolf like into his party like whenever that was like exactly. I forget. You have like a birthday party or something and someone like famous was like there. I'm not going to remember. It was literally 10 years ago. But I was on a sounding familiar and I told you you were being like Megan Foxx and Stew Wolf. There was somebody famous at my birthday party. Yeah. Like a million years ago. Maybe someone from the bachelor or something. Oh. Okay. I guess we're playing fast and loose with the word famous. That meant everything to us then. Back in the day. It's so true. Like the people from the back when I said yesterday, which is like, I don't know, famous like celebrities. I don't really do it for me. Now. Yeah. And that Alex are all so I guess Alex or would be the most earning Elon Musk. I'm really like in my influencer era. Like I only care about the influencers to I wonder if other people feel that way at all. Like I don't know. I find celebrities so boring with the exception of like Taylor Swift and select field. And yes, when it comes to who I would rather be in a room with like a bunch of boring actors or like a bunch of viral TikTok and YouTubers like, yeah, I think I'd go for the latter. Honestly. But maybe it's because like that whole parasocial element where it feels like we really know them. I don't know what it is, but they for at least for me, just like eclipsed interest. They're more interesting. Yeah. Yeah. So good job. I think a lot of people feel that way. Good job influencers. You're doing good job influencers. Yeah. Consider me influenced for sure. Now I feel like we should dive in. We do have like a shit ton to do today. So I forgot this is something that happens. But the chiefs played last night. Travis's wife, Taylor was in attendance, sitting next to Tom Cruise. Taylor's back, she's going to turn me for comment. Okay. I feel that last night between the Mariska Hargote pre taped segment and her in real life at the chiefs game. We got a very, very good look at the new haircut. And might say I love it. Like it's really inspired. I didn't even know what to call it because it's not a lob. But it's not like mid either. It's a very unique length. And I think it looks great, especially for a girl who like relatively never changes her hair. Like if she had her curly era and like that's pretty much it and then the bangs. Like she's kind of consistent in that. And getting a haircut is of course scary. I just want to say I love it. Like I really love it. I love it too. Are you talking about the hair so much because you're avoiding having to deal with the fact that shoes with Tom Cruise your mortal enemy? No, I'm not. I hate to just like lead with negativity because as you guys know, I'm not that type of person. Yeah, of course, like devastating to see my biggest like little my role model, sitting with my op Tom Cruise. Like because one thing about me, I keep my foot on the neck of Tom Cruise. Now, do I think that this is a poor reflection on Taylor and like the people on Twitter who are like, it's so disappointing to see her. No, because I'm not a loser. But it is so disappointing. Yeah, good. But I think also, like interacting with famous people, like I don't care. They could just wind up in the same box. I don't think he's like now the personal guest of Taylor. No, he is because as we know, Taylor. Yeah, Taylor exclusively goes to games at Arrowhead. She like won't go to other stadiums. And it's because like she has her set up there. I believe that they're in the same suite every time it's her suite or it's Travis's suite because there's always like Travis's family. So no one is in there because they like had some extra tickets and they gave them to the marketing department. Like, no, he was a guest of Travis and Kelsey. Travis Travis, maybe it's like he's a guest of Travis. Yeah, and I just want to say, like there's nothing wrong with being a Tom Cruise fan. Like he is like one of the biggest movie stars in American history. And I do like that like in recent years, like Taylor doesn't give a fuck. I feel like she used to be like so afraid of any sort of scandal that she would shy away from like maybe a potential friendship because like Tom Cruise has bad PR like whatever. I like that she doesn't care. She likes her friends canceled. I do think that that's something that comes with maturity. And so I like that it is because it's also not even about like if you did like your friends canceled, you would be friends with like lively. So it's like what are you talking about? Or like Kelly Teller, like what's literally what's going on? So I like that she doesn't give a fuck. Yeah. I just like we would have been more setting to see her there like sitting next to Chloe Kardashian. You know what I mean? Like if I had to choose anyone like I ain't choosing Tom Cruise. Michaela Matthews from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives announces her exit after hearing recent news that she said went against her morals. So Michaela Matthews from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives posted yesterday that she will not be returning to the show. She said, I made my decision over a week ago after hearing some news that I will not be continuing the show at this moment. In her post, she said that she was no longer comfortable being a part of the show, which she said was platforming behavior she didn't agree with, especially given her own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse. There's no amount of money worth going against. My morals are changing the stance I've had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strong lane. She added though she did not share further details. And for her personally, she said, continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone's healing and the millions of people watching. Supporting an adult doesn't mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change. I was in that enabling cycle for years and I'm not going to be a part of it again. - Give yourself a pat on the back. It is, first of all, I was just not expecting, let me rephrase, this shocked me for a multitude of reasons. It's hard to imagine that anyone would walk away from a show that's like, "Lira, just making you so much money." - Training money. - Training money. - To walk away because it conflicts directly with your core values is something that only somebody with an enormous amount of integrity does. And to be honest, I never saw that for Michaela. Like, maybe I just don't know her but like, she wasn't giving me the vibe that she was like, this extreme stand-up citizen. Like who would do something like this? I was so shocked, I was very impressed. Like her statement was, there's, so everyone's walks the walk condemns this condemns that. But nobody would actually walk away and hurt themselves. - Yeah, no, everybody still continues to profit it, you know, inadvertently platform it by putting themselves on the show and it's a huge sign of like unseen maturity. And someone who has a serious problem with what's going on, which is a lot of people, they might be like, you know what I'm gonna go on the show and I'm gonna tell 'em. But to actually walk away to be like that mature and evolved, to be like, I don't want any part of this. I don't want to be seen to support this in any way. Macklemore has been dropped from the Ed Sheeran tour after his free Palestine speech at a September 4th concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. So Ed Sheeran had a tour going on a stadium tour and he had tapped Macklemore to open for him. And on September 4th, Macklemore did it just so and turned it into an opportunity. A political rally to make it a rally for Palestine, stating free Palestine, wanting everyone in Gaza and the occupied West Bank to know that they had not been forgotten. Of course, people were upset about this. There was like petitions for him to drop Macklemore, which he wouldn't have done because he chose him. And Macklemore has been this person for many years. The whole time he does like Jew face. He dresses up as a Jew. He does Hitler salutes against an intentional choice because it's not like he's this insanely popular and demand artists who you want on your tour. Like, no, there is almost like that's who's opening for Ed Sheeran. No, he's certainly like a washed up has been artist who now just makes headlines because he uses like political movements like Israel and free Palestine, free Palestine, free Palestine. So since that, I didn't really, I hadn't been paying attention because I'm like, this is the world now. Like this stuff just happens. And I don't know what that means, but I can't think about it all the time and pay attention to it. And like fuck Ed Sheeran, fuck Macklemore, I'm on my way. You know? Yeah, there are so many people involved in this. And I don't know if I have a lesser opinion of anyone more than I do Ed Sheeran. Well, so here's what happened because and there was a signature with a protest with a bunch of signatures, like drop him, but like he would never. But then Robert Kraft slammed his dick on the table and told Ed Sheeran that he could not bring his tour to Gillette Stadium. If Macklemore was the opening artist and he also said a bunch of other stadium tour stadium owners are in agreement and he cannot tour there. Now he is set to play like 10 more stadium shows in the US. I think Macklemore was going to open for him at eight of them and they sort of forced Ed's hand and Ed dropped Macklemore from the show. And to be honest, like I said, like I don't know if I think I don't know, I don't know what I thought about Ed Sheeran before, but like I now hold such a low opinion of him because he couldn't make the decision to drop Macklemore based on his own values. And he also like almost hired him. Like the hiring seems so random to me because like I said, this is a huge stadium tour. Like Sabrina Carpenter opened for Taylor Swift. The opener for a stadium tour is not a nobody. Yeah. So to have chosen Macklemore who seriously is just like and obviously like I just like Macklemore, but this is just facts that completely unbiased like it's not successful or talented. Besides for one song from an actual over a decade ago, it's such an intentional choice. So you made that choice and then you couldn't you didn't do anything when there was backlash. And it wasn't until your own bottom line might have been affected. Like I just feel like he's spineless. Yeah, it's really crazy. He seems very committed to not taking a stance on the issue, which I have a lot of respect for. And I think you have every right to do. He's complicated, able to in all different like areas and conflicts like to have no opinion. Like seriously, I love that for you. Stay out of it. So to initially invite him on the tour when he is so outspoken and so polarizing and so hateful. Why would you do that if you really want to be that guy? No, she could say that. No, no, no, but that's how this girl interpreted it. Okay. That like she's going through something that so many women go through and like, you know. I like her, yeah. Right. I'm so firmly against this. She talked down to me because she works in OBGYN, in an OBGYN office and I do not. And I just left our dinner feeling really gross. I saw her again this past weekend due to a mutual group of friends being in town. And I asked to not discuss it with her. She brought it up. And I truly am not sure how I can maintain friends with someone who supports a literal psychopath. Do I just blow it off? Or can I be done with being her friend? Because I don't like her anyways. Minus that. There's a lot of history there. Well, you don't like her anyways. So like, don't be friends with someone that you don't like. Now let's take, yes. And I actually also think, I don't know if you saw, like there was like a couple of news story, like a man leaves his wife for her take on Lindsay Clancy. Like I actually think more often than that. I'm not the type of person who believes that like people with different political differences can't be friends or even married, although I do think that's very complicated. Like I don't like to be that type of person. Like I do think that human beings can and should work through most things. Now I have experienced this two words. Like I actually find myself like shifting opinions of what I think of people based on their Lindsay Clancy take, like genuinely. And I can't help it. I think it's such a layered issue. And it's so it's so dark that like, yeah, I can't help myself. But I actually think that you should not be friends with this girl. Yeah. And I think maybe she or her friend who agrees with her will be telling the same thing about you. Like I actually think like if you disagree with somebody on this like fundamentally, it really is not a match. Friendship or otherwise. Yeah, I think that there are a couple issues, not every issue, but there are a couple things. At least for me that are like a true test. If you don't agree with someone on that. That are a true test of like if we could see eye to eye about most things. And for me, this would be one of them. If I had a friend who very much very strongly to the point that she couldn't not talk about it, because the right thing to do is be like, let's not talk about it. We disagree and it's it's getting messy. But the fact that you said that. And she stills talking about it. So if I had a friend that could not stop talking about it. And that was her in my opinion. Awful take, wrong take, evil take. That's it for me. I'm out. Yeah, I think that this is an exceptional circumstance, because I really don't, I think a lot of people automatically are like, oh, you can't be friends with that person. They're hateful. It's like, well, no, they just have a different opinion than you. Like calm down. I think that this is one of a few issues that at least for me personally, and this is not universal. But I think if you're feeling like you can be friends with this person, like you probably are my type of person, like I, I think, especially if you sound like you have reasons to get rid of her anyway, outside of it. I'm okay with this friendship ending. Yeah. And if it's so like core to her personality, like, and some people like sometimes an issue or a political thing happens, and they just make it their personality. And that's it. And I know what I can't be. And that's also just annoying. So like if that's who you are now, not my kind of person. Are you following juror 11, the lone rural juror? Like, and all the information that's coming out about him? What's all the information? So one of the jurors went on Gayle Kaye. I saw this. I saw this. And Gayle was like asking a lot of questions about like the socioeconomic backgrounds, the racial backgrounds of how many men, how many women, how many black, how many women. And they eventually like, the woman wasn't offering up the information until Gayle sort of figured it out herself. And she said there was only one person of color, and it was a man. And Gayle was like, wait, is the hold out juror a person of color? And the female juror was like, yes. And Gayle said she needed to sit with that. And that sort of like took the internet by storm. I guess like people weren't expecting that. Not that it makes a difference. And then this local NBC station in Boston, like figure. By the way, I had said last week, and I do want to make a correction that a picture of the-- - Chair. - Lone juror got leaked. The picture I saw was of a white man. So obviously like that leak was fake. - Okay. - People had not figured out who it was. - Yes. - NBC. This, honestly, the juror should sue NBC. His identity has not been revealed yet, but they combed their court documents and found that he has a criminal record. He owes like a bunch of background. And then there was like a, he was like the police got called on him for like a domestic violence dispute with his wife, who's now his ex-wife. And so like now like obviously we have to make the Lone juror into, like they hate him and he's a criminal. But all this information is getting leaked about him. And it's like, why would anyone want to be a juror? Like literally ever. - Well, you have to be. And nobody wants to be-- - No, I'm sorry. - What he wants to be is the funny thing. No, but like if not, you're not, the one thing that good being a juror had for you was like you would maintain your privacy, right? And it's like, and that was something I feel that everybody really respected. Unless the person wanted to go on TV and there have been a bunch of the women going on TV, I like, I think it's so crazy that like all this information about the guy, even though his name and identity have not been revealed, all this like sort of leading details and information about him have been like leaked and they're being reported like everywhere. - Yeah, including his race. - Well, yes, his race, but I guess that's like on the other juror to share. I don't know, I don't know if she did anything wrong. - I don't think she did anything wrong. And I think those are like fair questions. And honestly, maybe it's not fair in the grand scheme of things, but given that this case has garnered so much national attention, like I actually, I think that fact is sort of like put people in a tailspin. - Yes, they didn't know that Gail's king said she needed to sit with that. - Yeah, yeah, I think-- - I also heard he might be gay. I don't know if that's true, but like people are just like obsessed with like these facts. They said it was an older gentleman. - Yeah, I think that I, maybe it's hungry, I think it's interesting. - Yeah, I do too, but I like feel bad. Like unless you're, a lot of them, you know, left the courthouse and called up TMZ. Like a lot of them want this. And I can imagine not wanting to. - And when we said like this person obviously could go and tell their story or sell their story or whatever, but like if it is like an older person, they're probably not interested, they just sat on the jury. And they came up with the decision that they thought was best. And because maybe it's like an older person, they couldn't really be swayed by what people were telling them and all these like women yelling at him. Like-- - Well, I just think it's funny that like now we know he has like a allegation of domestic violence against him. Like everybody's so aghast. But like Lindsay Clancy, literally strangled her three kids. So I don't know how that information people might say, I think you have to go to jury duty. You have to try and serve. That's everybody's like civic duty. And also they can look up that information too. Like truly a thankless job. I would never want to be on a jury like for real. I'm going to say next like this has cured me. You don't really have to because your the public nature of my job, the facts of your life being like a young working mother. Like the last time I did jury duty, I was like, I was like, you know what? I've not said a word since, but I don't know what to do. Do I tell the mom, her husband is cheating on her on hinge? Do I confront the dad? Do I leave it alone? Act like it never happened because I don't know what agreements they might have. I'm a broke student who really can't afford to lose her job and wants to do the right thing. I'm serious. Uh, so ignore until you can't, but that'll probably be in a couple of days from now. In the words of Ashley Dupree, like men are pigs. They all cheat. Yeah. That was, she was crazy. But it's like even if he was like a single dad or whatever. And she was like, that would be worse actually. It's like, it's as much about the cheating nature. It is about like the power dynamic and the fact that you guys are in the same house and that he would do something like that. Like what? No, it's like a boss. Sick. Oh, but it's worse than a boss because the job is so intimate. Of course, in the home, like it's terrible. Our third and final, I hate swerleys love you guys. I have a relationship question and I need to know if I'm in the wrong. I'm getting married later this year. And once we're married, my fiance wants to combine all of our bank accounts. I told him I wanted each of us to keep one separate one and just put like $50 to $100 a month in it. Nothing crazy. For small gifts for each other in case you have an emergency or something messy where to happen between us. He's looking at it. Like I don't trust him and I'm not fully committed. What's the right thing? I just don't think. Sorry. I don't want to just give in because I feel really strongly about this. But he's hurt and he's acting like I think he's going to run away with all of our money. We both have you enjoyed your summer break, but I'm so glad you're back. First of all, you made a mistake in what? In telling him I need to know everyone's financial situation here. I don't I feel like they seem like two young professionals on the same level because if he had like a lot of money, she would have said that like and I feel like what he's saying to and the way he's acting like is like someone that you can't financially trust. I don't know why, but like him meaning you trust me like that's interesting. I and I also think that you should have your own account for like so many reasons both serious and benign, but like you should be able to do what you want when you want and not have to answer, especially if you are working and and same for him. So like I'd like the idea of separate and joint personally. I think that's a nice thing to have. And I think that his especially if you're talking about 50 to $100 a month into a personal account. Like I don't know why that would upset him. Yeah, I didn't see this so much as a red flag, but I guess if you want to look in like him being controlling over your money. Sure. I I saw more of his like an image or anything. It's like we're getting married. We share everything. I just think every woman should have a separate bank account that honestly her husband doesn't know about. I think you never should have told him what the fuck does he need his own bank account for? He doesn't. You do. He doesn't make your own account on the side. And it's called a conipple where you like, you know, you just so way money for a rainy day. Just in case you should never like your husband should not know all that's how you can end up in financial abuse, which is a real form of abuse. Like you need a little account. If you ever needed anything, you need to run. You need to go. You have a little something on the side, even if it's a box of cash under your mattress. Yeah, but also like taking away those extreme circumstances just for like your daily operating. Like you want to have freedom. You don't want to have to explain everything as long as you are working. That is your money. And you're giving him the option to do the same thing as you. Well, and I think you're wrong for that because I think we always talk about how like men and women are different and there are situations where men can do something and a woman can't and a woman can do something and I don't think that a man can have his own bank account. Honestly, I think that's weird and shady and like it never leads to good things. And I think a woman like it is integral to her survival that she has one. Yeah. So I think that you should tell him that he's right. He should put all his money into the joint. And that you're right. And he'll keep him out. Yeah, I wouldn't even tell him. Yeah, agreed. Like just drop it and like make your own account on the side, go to like some. But I just think it's a different, totally different bank like a richwood savings or whatever. His insistence regarding like what amounts to maximum $100 a month is strange. Well, yes, I think if you wanted to look deeper into that, like maybe we could find fault and like potentially, you know, controlling of the finances, like is a little bit of a red flag. Yeah. I wasn't even thinking controlling, but just like not. I don't know, like just that seems like a very normal situation to have like a small personal account and a joint account. So what is his expectation for like marriage? If you can't have any independence. I also don't think that there is a standard way to do finances. I think some people keep everything in the modern world. I agree. Yeah, it's not. It's not a one size fits all. I think that people do what works with them, completely agree. But I do think like if I had to prescribe like what I think a healthy situation is for, you know, two working people, young people. And also, but then it's also like if the woman's not working with a separate issue that has to be dealt with, but to have like personal accounts and a joint account, I think is healthy. Yeah, I think so too. I don't think that's like a bad option, but it's not what it used to be. No, but and how did it used to be like one account because I think there was like a family account that the women really knew nothing about, but technically had access to. And then they also men mostly had separate accounts too for like, you know, flandering. Yeah, and like the family account was like for groceries. I was just watching Mad Men and they got a bank as a client and they were offering this thing called like executive accounts, which is basically just for men to have their own separate account so that women can access to, you know, by liquor and prostitutes.
