Manchester United with Alex Trembath | Correspondent Week ep. 4 | Planet FPL 2026/27

Myöhemmin on yksi sajana. Basically, Nico, you're doing well, keep going mate, good stuff. Right, let's get into the meet in a conversation on United, Michael Kerrick confirmed, I think we'd last spoped prior to game, 7.4. It was going to head that way. - Yeah. - You weren't always convinced, I think it's fair to say. And the second half of the season, it was necessarily the right thing. How do you feel about it now? - I'd probably a little bit better. I still have question marks and it'll be a big opening for you weeks for Kerrick and for the club in general. I've been quite encouraged by some of the signs preseason in terms of the tactical direction. So I think we spoke a bit last season that Kerrick came in and he did an incredibly good job in a situation where the way we were playing last season was I don't think that's really the way Kerrick really wants to play. We were playing sort of the mid-block transitional style and he did very, very well to, well, I think we certainly overperformed this one thing I'd say. It was a fantastic, what 17 games it was in charge. We finished third from the moment he took the job. I think we got more Premier League points than any other club. So can't fault any of that. Certainly an overperformance on data, but I think allow him a little bit of that. But I think also what I was saying, he was working with the tools he had and platforming the players in the best way possible, rather than coming in straight away with a specific idea that he wanted to implement. And I spoke a bit on Pods last season that I thought that's all very well and good, but that way of playing I didn't think could scale to winning titles and would need to see in moving towards something a little bit more in terms of being able to dominate games and control, playing a little bit more of a possession-based style, not necessarily all the time. I'd like us to have a little bit more flexibility. But I think in preseason and in terms of his comments as well, it's clear that that's a direction he wants to move in. And then now we maybe have a question about how far and how quickly does he change things and how will he react if he starts implementing the way he wants to play and it doesn't work out, will he retreat back into that sort of transitional style and will there be patience with him among the fans and the owners if we don't get a quick if in two, three months time from now we're sitting eighth in the table. How will things look then? So I want to be as open-minded and positive about as possible, but I do feel a little bit pessimistic about how the season will land, I guess. OK, that's interesting because I think a lot of United fans will feel way more positive at the moment, Alex. Yeah, I think maybe I'd describe it as being a fragile optimism. Like certainly optimism in terms of we finish the season very well. We're back in the Champions League, there's a real of positivity around the culture of the squad, the camaraderie and the dressing room, all of that, everything feels like it's going in a positive direction, but I think it also feels to me at least that we're maybe one wrong turn away from like an implosion. Like if this doesn't go well for the owners, then I think it could turn sour very quickly. But right now it is positive. I just think that it's quite fragile. OK, so did you want to talk about club strategy a little bit? Can you elaborate on what it is that you wanted to cover? Well, yeah, some of that was linked to what I just said, I suppose. And I think this is a very big season for Enios in that way, because it's just over two years since they took over the club now. And I've talked a little bit in the past around this Project 150 idea that Omar Barada, the Chief Executive, started talking about in September 24, which was end to win a title by 2028. The reality now is that would mean winning the title next season if we're going to deliver that. Like, I think there are sections of our foundation that think we're in a position to challenge this season. I think we're quite a way off that. In terms of that direction of travel, if there isn't at least a very strong stepping stone this season, then I think serious questions will start to be asked. But in terms of transfer strategy, I think, again, I've got kind of mixed feelings on this. I think it's really, really positive that we've shaken off that label of like the man United tax. We've stopped overpaying for players. There's been a lot of work, I think, to undo a lot of the mistakes that were made in the transfer market in recent seasons, the likes of Anthony, Sancio, etc. But at the same time, like the transfer market has moved very quickly this season and we've stood still. So we've missed all of our main targets this summer. I'm quite pleased with the couple of players who signed, but if that's how we end the window, it will be pretty underwhelming. So I have to caveat this with, let's see how it looks at the end of August. But to be honest, it could be, I won't be surprised if we don't sign another player, but also I won't be surprised if we spend another 200 million because the signings we've made, it's been a surprise, kind of a surprise on the day kind of scenario. But yeah, that to say that I think it's like a bit, there are some positives in terms of the way we're moving now, but it doesn't feel like we're on course to winning a title within two years. No, that's fair, but I think a position where you're changing manager shouldn't necessarily expect to be. Like I think part of that project was designed and open that the previous would obviously continue and it would work with Amber him, right? So you have kind of reset. I don't know if that's moved the goalposts in terms of expectation within the people running the football club. Certainly take your view in what you're saying about the signings. I mean, it's double edged isn't it? It's like, yeah, that's the right thing not playing the Man's United tax, but also not being in competition for the test for Nandes, Gimere, whoever those targets were. You're quite right, though. Also, the two signings you have made that will come onto does feel like it's been, oh, that's a shock. So Man's United keeping the news story quiet is probably quite hard work. I should imagine instead of doing well from that perspective. I think it's open mindedness, right? Because your back end of last season was obviously extremely good. You did get most points in the league from character taking over, but that's obviously with a run on the low expectations, certain way of playing one game a week. Now champions league football testing on the squad, etc. It's very, very different challenge. But I don't think anybody thinks, oh, United are going to finish mid table. I think that scenario is, oh, eight fin, the ultimate. I think people would be surprised. Those opening fixtures give you a brilliant chance to go into September top of the league. Let's be honest, Alex, you probably should be top of the league going into September. Yeah, but again, I guess that looks quite a bit of pressure on, but those opening fixtures. I wasn't quite as, I wasn't, I was a little bit annoyed by getting the promoted sides in GoMe wanted to, because in a way, my first reaction to looking at the fixtures was, "Hull away first game of the season." I'm really annoyed at that. It's the worst time to play, to go away to a promoted side, especially one that's been out of the top flight for quite a while. I mean, obviously we're expected to go there and win and we'll be expected to be able to switch game week too as well, but we've seen it so often like Sunderlin last year, Brent had beaten Arsenal and hold themselves beating Leicester I think a decade ago. But it's, now it's a game where that is, I would rather have that fixture in November when there's less sort of, where the novelty factor of being back in the Premier League has died off and maybe the fans won't be quite as big up for it as game week one. If you want to do a little swap, we're going to have Hull and Game Week one and you go to Brentford. I'm quite out for that, Alex, because I think it's great because I think those two teams I agree with you, they're about to start a bit of the unknown, but those two teams will both, I think, be a bit stronger in a few weeks into the season than what they're going to be at the start, particularly Hull. I mean, we'll hear from Danny McDonald tomorrow, possibly going to be a complete mess going into Game Week one. I might look relatively strong maybe once we get into September or something. So I think you pulling out Hull and Game Week one is the best fixture you could have had, whether it was Homer or Way, whatever, actually. Perhaps, yeah, I mean, I'll take that point. Then at the same time, they're like, I mean, you said like we could be expected to be top of the league after three of all games, but then if we don't pick up the points in the game, then the pressure is on straight away. Only two. I didn't say about Ganneryvyn and winning in Game Free. There's only two games in August. That's what I say. You should go and set to September top of the league. Fair enough. Because Frit and Fury from the whole knit switch, you should have the best goal of
at the end of it. Yeah. But it doesn't, things don't work out quite as it's like like that. We said don't. But you talking about the pressure you put on yourselves, the pressure will be, yeah, let's be real. You should take six points from that. And then you add in everything, you guys minimum seven and actually sitting at home, you're very capable of beating maybe transitional wonder, meresco at the start. And then it's full of my way, going week five, we'll see you on COTC before that one with Lewis James's question marks over them. Yeah, it is a good style, Alex, I think overall fact cities at home as well. I think that's a good run of fixtures. Well, actually, I think you've been looking at the first eight with pretty pretty much the best on the ticker for the sort of the first eight I would have thought. So you take them ball with the other three for the record? Yeah, I like the first seven games, the only team that we play that finished in the top half last season is Man City. And City at home is not the worst fixture for us. I think it's kind of on, obviously, it was one of our best performances of the last few years at home last season in Carrick's first game. A couple of other quirks about the opening run actually, our first 12 games of this coming season, six of them are fixtures that Carrick was in charge for last season and all six of those he won. That includes the likes of City at home, Villa at home, Spurs at home, Chelsea away. So yeah, the games in the 12 that Carrick's already managed are all one sort of one. I did I know Tottenham was going to be in there. Yeah, but then at the same time in we don't know what a lot of these sides are going to be like, full them in lead away. Typically, I would expect to be tough games and not necessarily great for attacking returns. We don't know what you're going to be early doors in the season. So I kind of look at it and think we're we're a lot a big part of the reason why a lot of people are looking at this early wildcard idea because wildcard in game week through or for I think four is pretty popular. I think the idea for a lot of people would be to get on three of our assets and then potentially being them will be been them all after that, which which does make some sense. Yeah, I mean, the UK in favour ahead as well. Game week's 9 to 11. The strips to Chelsea Liverpool sandwich by home game against Villa. That's quite a difficult period there. Maybe comes back around a little bit going into December or so, but yeah, there's I'd take it wildcard free as well. If anyone is planning wildcard free, they'll probably almost feel obliged to start with two free mansion item players, I think under that form, maybe kind of minimum two. If you're looking at six, a lot of people looking at game week six, I think, yeah, you're looking to attack mansion right at the start. So without further ado, Bruno Fernandez Alex, you might have heard of him decent footballer, not bad FPL asset. Start with him or not? As it stands, no, I've had he's been in and out of my drafts, but actually, I'll reference that there's a fantastic pod on the planet, FPL poetry on in the last few days with a guy called Paul Parsons. I was talking about this idea of making sure you have squad depth. If you have Bruno Fernandez and you're starting squad and and for Holland is if you have both Fernandez and Holland, it's very hard to have depth in your squad as well. So like I'm trying to aim to have depth on my bench and it's hard to do that with Bruno. I do not want to compromise personally on having Holland at the beginning. I know there are people who are doing things like going without and then free hitting in game week three. For me, he is a 15.5 million asset at the beginning of the season and then probably stops to be after about game week eight from historical evidence, but with having him as a non-negotiable, for me, it's a little bit too much compromise having Bruno, but it's so hard that because in one sense, Bruno has played six full seasons, man United, six and a half seasons, but six full FPL seasons. Two of those he's had 200 plus FPL points. The first time that happened, he as price was corrected to 12.0 and it turned out to be an over correction and I suspect there'll be a bit of that this time. And the first time around, he's sat padded with a lot of penalties. Last season, he sat padded with a lot of assists. 24 FPL assists from about 12 expected assists and there are a couple of caveats within that when you can see that six of his assists were Casamiro headers, who's no longer there. And he is going to be 32 next month and we are playing in multiple competitions. We're playing the Champions League. So people assume him to be 90 minutes going to play every week. At some point, he will start having his minutes managed. We did see last season that he was human and he got an injury. He got a hamstring injury. So he got a hamstring injury and was back in like 10 days, Alex. I don't see his human. Most people, that's a month, isn't it? Yeah, I mean, that's fair enough, but I think it's okay to assume at the beginning of the season, he will continue to be it, but it's one of those things where over the course of the season, I would have a little bit of an eye on that, especially because we have maybe more options in to play number 10 now, even if it's to take 20 minutes off him at the end of the game. If we want to give him a little bit more recovery, the Ladshay Lacey has been playing number 10 in our preseason games. Teal him and can play there. I think the longer the season goes on, maybe it's more things like that where you're two three in your upper iron and you go, another game on Tuesday and just manage that better for him rather than being concerned, he might not start, for example. But then the minutes is such an appeal of Bruno for Lanners. I certainly don't see that change in towards the start of the season. You'd certainly put his X-Men's at the first cut of the games. That's what 85 plus, wouldn't you? I think. Yeah, he'll probably play 90 minutes. And that's the thing, the opening fixtures are so good that that just makes it hard to go again. So if we were starting the season with a mix set of fixtures, I would be pretty confidently going without him, but I think it's a reasonable strategy and I think lots of content ranges are spoken about, the fact that it's very easy to come off him as well. So if you start with him, you can easily jump off to whoever you'd like to, a game week sort of game week four onwards, if that makes sense at that point, I think if you go against what you got to ask yourself is, what do you do if he's going mental? Now, all I'd say is that I think because of the fixtures, I don't think you chase after him. It's only going to get provocatively worse, isn't it? From hold to it switched to, they're getting harder, right? Ever and man, so you follow him. Yes, the 6, 7, 8, still good. But I don't think if Fernandez was to score three times in the opening two, that's wrong to then sit there and game week three and go, oh my god, panic. I've got a chase after him. Well, we knew that was a possibility in the first cut the game weeks anyway, whereas I think we've harland that Paul probably, if you're not free hitting the game week three and harland goes off and then we're against ball muffin one and then palace two and look at the commentary game, go shit. There is a difference in that. But I certainly take the point that those looking to free hit in game week three will make a very strong arguments, go for now, there's over harland, very strong. Who's the best captain game week one in your opinion? Harland, just because of his record early on in the season and also ball muffin with a new manager as well, if I own both, I would still very confidently be captaining Harland game week one. Okay, game week two. That will probably be Bruno, but it's not so, yeah, it would be Bruno, but I'm happy to captain Harland again week two as well. It's one one at this point clearly it's Harland free. But if you're on a free hit strategy, it's level game week four is discussed with Gary probably is going to be Chelsea play out in gel Pedro personally, it'll end up being very popular. Five, you go to full of them. Harland's got sunda and at home. It might be what we think about those two teams at that point game week six and that's Fernandez of the two. It's just looking at them two might be an Arsenal player, but the hands Fernandez against Tottenham rather than Harland away to Liverpool. Seven is Harland. Eight would be Fernandez again. I think Harland goes to Villa Fernandez Hans Bump. I guess if you're met in the case for Harland one, I'll met the case for Fernandez tonight. I guess if you're basing like a Harland versus Fernandez decision feel squad over the first few weeks on who you'll have captain in which week. I think there's the point that like the weeks when it is Harland, the ceiling is so much higher like the Coventry at home, Sondland at home. Like heart. We know that a Bruno goal can easily be 11 points. Yeah, of course, but Harland has the bigger halls in him, it's especially in those kind of games. I think it's more likely that he gets a string of hall. It's more likely that Harland gets a string of 13, 17, etc in the first few games. So I'd know, when it's close like that, I prefer going on ceiling. Yeah, I get that. I think this comes down to preference and strategy. Quite a lot. I am for the record Alex, I remember more of your viewing that I don't really want to take Harland on. I just think that the flip to getting back is a bit too rough personally. Whereas like I said, the argument against Fernandez is if he does go rough,

وجid case tak glaub wasn saadaan jamme niin soa elämä on Bumo vs kunja discuss See, an interesting thing is 1 year ago the conversation we were having is Bumo and kunja are 8 million and is it worth paying 1 million more for Bruno for others and that was the same question but it's 4 million more and we like, shit, how do we force for Anders in? I mean, to me there is a – like there's no fence sitting for me this time on Bumo and kunja at the start of the season especially like and Bumo is the clear, better option for me at the beginning of the season and I would watch very carefully and caveat the fact that we still have two preseason games to go we haven't seen kunja play any minutes he did not play he wasn't in the squad for PSG last night at the time of recording through illness so I'd watch carefully the minutes that he gets against Leid and Milan in the last two preseason games but Bumo I think like from what I've seen in the United he's quite a little bit different to how he what in terms of what he was like as a player at Bramped in terms of he really felt like a confidence player he was quite streaky last season he had a really dreadful run from like February to April I wondered whether he was carrying something but then he did pick up at the end of the season he scored a couple of goals in the last couple of games he was looking a bit better again and he like and he's had obviously had the whole summer off he's looking pretty sharp in preseason slight concern I have is actually but he's playing he's quite a good chance he'll play it's not forward and I do think he's better off the right but he has been scoring goals in preseason but I'm I'm a lot more confident in Bumo's minutes early doors than kunja I know you've got a theory about the game I don't think it's a good game but I think it's a good game and I think it's a good game and I think it's a good game and I think it's a good game because I think you're possibly a little short or front post because because CESCO's unavailability that actually the idea of KUNYA as a substitute if you need to change it up really adds a change layer to the game whereas if you start with KUNYA BUMO Fernandez Diallo and he changed you make if it's not working he's probably weakening the attacking output and ultimately it's game 1 it's not decisive game week 38 so I think there would be changes I think even if KUNYA did start game week 1 we could probably spin that and go he might be the first player to come off yeah, for sure yeah, I can certainly see see that kind of element well, like with the 9 KUNYA can KANNAN has played in there as well I think he has played minutes there on the carrot as well and so it's not cut and drive that it would be BUMO playing and BUMO playing the 9 although I do think it's likely we're at the stage now where across you've got what leads Wednesday night which I believe is on ITV1 actually for those in the UK if they want to watch it it's on free to VUTV and then you've got a game at the weekend as well you must do everyone has so there's two as two friendlies to go like if something changes and we're sitting at this time actually BUMO the hobbled off and KUNYA's minutes look good we'll be sitting at this time next week we'll be having a different conversation if that's the case by the way, me and SID will confirm that next Monday but at this moment I think BUMO over KUNYA actually it's clear yeah and yeah for me it has been from very early in the window and BUMO was in my very first draft and has been all the way through I think it has become clearer but yeah, it is very much so to me how do you feel about BUMO versus Gibbswite? oh that's an interesting one they're both in my draft I want them both the question for me on Gibbswite is there a chance he moves club? because there's been a little bit of talk about it I don't want to be going into the start of the season we've also not had the benefit of listening to Mark Sabin it's like everyone else possibly has at this point fair enough yeah, I haven't had I will be surprised if I was sold here but even if there's an inkling of doubt I don't want to be I don't want to be starting the season with too many question marks in terms of disruption in early doors but I do happen both in my draft I think I would start with BUMO over Gibbswite though if it was one of the other yeah, I think it just needs probably a short-term view and if it becomes a great long-term view then then brilliant but it probably just wants a short-term view most people are possibly going to end up well cardin early so I think BUMO is a great pick and by the way, you obviously can go BUMO for NANDAs and I think probably if you ask in the recommendation in the recommendation probably would be Carrie BUMO with Malyks yeah, the drafts where I have Fernandez I've got on BUMO as well in all of them yeah, so yeah it's not an Iveroi it's probably if you're getting Fernandez in it's probably both at the start I guess the thing with both is that feels a little bit more like tying yourself in and I don't mind the strategy of booking in like WorldCod 4 like committing to it but if you load up on double-unit attack then there is a danger that you there's a little bit of a problem there that you're overcome as we might get to Alex those not committing to double-unit attack might end up looking at double-unit defense but we'll get there in a bit I do want to briefly discuss the two new signings that you've got which as we said kind of came out of left field you read Telemann's fear Alex we got his right which uses a substitute at a weekend so he's available yeah, he played 25 minutes last night quite interesting he played he came on for Santos playing in the very similar role both actually playing as a number six sitting very deep dropping back in in between two center backs on the ball contributing a lot of progressive passing I think an interesting thing with Telemann's is I think there's potentially a really positive effect for Bruno Fernandez in terms of a fail asset because Bruno has a tendency to lose a bit of positional discipline and go roaming especially when he maybe thinks that things are not going so well then if he feels like he needs to take the responsibility to drop deeper and be the player who can play through lines but having Telemann's there because last night he was only 25 minutes or so he was punching the ball into Bruno and like if Bruno is staying higher and being in those more dangerous areas then that is good for Bruno and that's the negative is that Telemann's can play in the turn and could be one of the players
some give it give them a bit of rest. But yeah, I think I kind of think of the signings. I'm happy were both of them. They feel a little bit more like floor raises rather than ceiling raises. If that makes sense. And they're both quite indicative of this idea that I like that, but they both look very technical. Well, obviously we know to tealumins is incredibly a very intelligent player, very good passing short range long range. Santos maybe doesn't have the long range element, but from what I've seen in the preseason games, I didn't watch him much at Chelsea last season, but he didn't, he doesn't look like he's going to lose the ball at all and he's making forward passes a lot. But with these signings, it becomes very hard to know, especially early season, who will start which games and and what how the midfield will shape up, because there's obviously copy main need to come back in. We may make another signing and we might talk about that. And Mason mountain has been playing as a number eight in these preseason games. Santos injured again, the other night. I did hear that. Wow. I'm not so sure because it was, he went off after 18 minutes. The word is that it was just like he got a bit of a kick and it was just precautionary. It doesn't sound serious. And I half wonder that because a little bit of talk has been coming out and last week or two, well, actually, after all, we might not make a third midfield signing, because Mason mountain has been playing so well in preseason. But I'd know, could Michael Carrick take him off as kind of a reminder of, you can't rely on this guy to stay fit kind of thing. Maybe that's a bit conspiracy theorist, but to conspiracy, fairy Alex, you will be reported. Your views are not necessarily representative of Planet FPL. It's a Telemann's FPL. I said possibly. By the way, him joining the football club isn't necessarily just good for bananas. I think it's good for all of the attacking players. You've now got two players who are really going to pass in vertically through lines. Yeah. In terms of Telemann's himself as an FPL, I say, is very much a weight and sea. As it stands, I wouldn't expect him to start Gameweek one, although again, keep an eye on the minutes in the next two games, because he's only just come back in. He certainly could at six million. It's a little bit one of those where I think it looks like he is going to play that like deep-lying playmaker role. So it might be like the assisting the assist, not getting too many attacking returns and occasionally getting DEF CON maybe. So I feel a little bit meh about that, but keeping up with it. I just take no from Casimir on the back post, no? No. No, maybe Santos maybe a little bit more, more so, but I don't know. Santos five is cheap. It is. He's been playing the Chelsea player, essentially, right? Is part of what that is. Well, he might be the more interesting one. Well, if he's immense a place in the side, that could be really nice at five million. And I do, I'd have to say, he started every preseason game and I've easily looked like he's the most positive thing out of our preseason. He's looked really, really good, really assured these last few games. I would have thought he would be given the chance to start the season. So let's see how that goes. I wouldn't start with him in in FPL teams, but anyone while carding maybe say if you're while carding game week six and he started all five games and looks pretty cemented there, then that could be very interesting. Okay. Tidamins is sick. So two are Amad and Dorgon under a circumstance here where couldn't you didn't start as both were looking at that as the potential wide men. And he'd love for I've heard Emma's FPO assets. Not really. And this relates a little bit to just the fact that I saw I saw a really good piece actually by I think it was all about FPL. They did a bit of research into Defcon. And I saw a list of the top. If you look at the every single player, probably six point five million and under for this season and order them in terms of the FPL points they scored last season 11 of the top 20 were defenders and most of them were and most of the midfielders in their sort of Defcon. I kind of feel with Amad and Dorgu. They will look lively. They'll look like they're going to be getting into attacking positions, but they will frustrate. They both have had they both have issues with their end product or at least they certainly have had last season. And I could just even if they get an extended run in the team, it would need it would need injuries sort of the players for that to happen. I just think that the Defcon players around the same price. I'd rather I might rather play like a Tarkovsky have that kind of player in my squad than have six million six million Amad or Dorgu if that makes sense. Yeah, that's fine. Okay, what's happening in Marcus Rashford? Well, he's back with a squad. He's out in Ireland with the squad now ahead of the leads friendly. He's just come back from the holiday. He's had another hit piece on him in the I mean, I get so irritated by the way, Rashford is treated by some corners of the British media because I think other players who who occasionally might go for a drink on holiday don't don't get quite the same scrutiny as he does, but he is back with a squad. It looks like he's being reintegrated. I wouldn't rule out the surprise late transfer, although I don't know who would take him at this stage. I think you think Spurs could be an option maybe tell me what you're listening. I'll put my hands up. I mean, Alex, I'll be honest, I'm I'm I'm pretty much hitting out at desperate that I'd probably take Xerxes at this point. I don't mean that. But with Marcus, I've had this discussion with you before that if him and the club are going to part, there's a limited number of teams that can take him with what his salary demands will be. Tottenham are trying to put themselves into that category of team that might be able to do that. And if Barça Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich aren't interested, they only leave sort of greedy six in the Premier League. And just by default, you're you're actually only answer becomes Tottenham. Yeah, it's difficult there wasn't it because he's he's turning 29 this season. He's got a I think no one doubts Marcus, Marcus Rashford when he's on song offensively. He has had consistency issues over the years and there are I think there are there are some valid question marks around his his work rate potentially. And would he if we're going to be playing like more discipline pressing structures or if we're I don't know, is is is he going to is he going to stand up to that? And is it because I know because Barcelona have just chosen to just spend 75 million of the Rianti Guard, Gordon, rather than taking a 25 million option on Rashford with a coach like Hansi Lake, who all really value that sort of off the ball work. So I know I really love Marcus. I I would be happy to see him back in the squad, but I think for us it would be more I would expect him to be playing a bit more of an impact role. He wouldn't necessarily be first first choice. When we'd last spoke, you were of the impression that probably the relationship was too broken. I thought that's the time to continue at the club, but I guess your stance on that clearly must have softened on this idea that he's been reintegrated into training or do we think this is a front to make sure that you can get a move. IE last year, there was a lot of focus on United, I got this bomb squad and therefore they can't get the value they want for players. So right, East got a guy on train, we are Michael Carricks, not going to like bomb him eyes, but like yeah, fine. Could there be an element of that? Yeah, I mean, the message management has been gradual. Over the last few over the last couple of months, there's been a very gradual message management of opening the door for him to stay. So there were no signs of that. It felt like something had severed behind the scenes, it felt like something had broken. And I think the whole thing that happened with the bomb squad and Amorim in Rashford's case, I felt like that was and I've seen things suggesting this that that was in Rashford's case with being driven a little bit more by the club, but anyway, so the situation has clearly changed now, but as you say, the way any of us have been operating, it could be that we're trying to create a situation where we could offload him later in the window. So I guess let's wait and see. From FBEL perspective, I would just have an eye on it and we know that if he's on song, he can be a great ass. Well, I was going to ask, in theory, you've got two friends this week, what if something happens and we would to sit here this time next week and in a build up to the first game against Hall, we're looking and going, I think Marcus Rashford's going to start. Would you suddenly want to be all over that, even if it's just a two week punt at seven billion? It's hard to imagine. What I know is Alex, but I'm trying to imagine the impossible. Yeah. He's not going to go and start the first one of these families. I'll be really surprised. So I mean, I guess what, if he comes off the bench against lead scores and then plays a lot of minutes in the second friendly. What if we're sitting in a position, maybe even just, okay, he gets good minutes across the friendlies. Boomo does his hamstring and mid-weight and Kunya does his knee at the weekend and we are looking, whoa, who are they going to play out front? Oh, shit, Marcus is there at seven million. We'd have to have a look at it, wouldn't we? Yeah, I agree. We would have to have a look at it, but I think it's quite a stretch for those things to have a look. If we're sitting here this time next week and there's been injuries that paved the way for that and he's played minutes, then sure, but that seems a bit of a stretch from where we are now. Well, I opened at Selankey and Richarderson paved the way for Marcus Rashford to be an interesting game week one asset. Let's round up on the just.
a few other these other midfielders. Shell AC, you said, good minutes in preseason, understanding the impress quite a bit. Is it five million? Is the infancy in minutes going forward or is Fernandez back in the squad and that's it now? - Well, yeah, I mean, Fernandez, it's back in and we'll obviously be starting the season. With the AC, I would have an eye on that 'cause he is one that could really have a breakthrough season. And again, it might be a case if it might need an injury to happen. It's interesting that he's been playing these games as a 10, 'cause when he got opportunities last season, he was playing off the right. And he was playing a little bit of a hybrid role in some of these preseason games where he was interchangably playing on the right and dropping in as the 10. I don't think he'll get significant minutes early in the season. I imagine he'll get opportunities in the Carabell Cup, that kind of thing. But I would not be surprised if he has a fairly big breakout at some point later in the season and could become a tremendous asset at 5 million if that happens. - Okay. Should we monitor the flesh of brothers as well? - I wouldn't have thought so. I think they're much further down in the packing order. - Okay, let's give you a triple-fret question in Alex to finish. Lamonds versus Maguire versus Shaw Discuss. - For me, again, I've got a clear favorite from those. And yet it's actually Harry Maguire. I mean, I will just say on this a little bit in terms of our squad needs. Four years ago, Eric Tenhag started it, Manu United. The back four in our first game on the Eric Tenhag was Diego Dallow, Harry Maguire, the Sandria Martinez and Luke Shaw. And there's a fairly decent chance that'll be the same starting four in our first game this season. The situation now is Luke Shaw is 31, Harry Maguire is 33 and has had injury issues. We've got the Sandria Martinez and Delic who are both liabilities for fitness. And then we've got two kids basically, Lennie, Oro and Aiden Hevan, who are big prospects. But I think they're far off being these guys can start and aside that it's gonna be challenging for a Premier League title, shall we say. So yeah, I think there needs to be investment in the back line probably more urgently than people are talking about. I think it's likely we will sign the left back. It's unlikely that'll be Lewis Hall now. I don't know who it'll end up being. Could be Anthony Robinson. I wonder if we might go for round from Leipzig. Chad. Chad, I doubt I wouldn't be surprised to see that. He's off to Liverpool, isn't he? Not now, they've got this great defender Oroho, they seem really happy with that one. Yeah. Yeah, well, let's see. Let's see. But yeah, with, with Shaw, I think that is the risk. He's good for the first couple of games and less, and less to this. He was taking off last night and there was a little bit of talk. It could have been an issue, but again, it sounds like no, it's he's fine, but haven't every game last season, right? Yeah, every, all every single one of the 30 games he started. But I would say if you look at his minutes over his career, that is an anomaly. So with Shaw, yeah, likely to start the season, likely to play at least the first two or three games, but I would expect one, the windows shut. There's he's got some serious competition. Harry Maguire at 5 million. In the period specifically on the character, he hit Defcon in about half of the games. I think he hit Defcon in seven of the last 14. There's someone on one of your Q&A's last week, and I was thinking about this as well. Put positive this theory that without Casamiro there would Maguire be the target for set pieces. And I think you can make that narrative. So there is that element of it. And I think he's fairly likely. I think we should be signing a right side to the fact, but I don't think we will. So with the lift out for at least the start of the season, and it will probably take quite some time to get up to speed, you've probably got several weeks of Maguire being pretty assured of starting. So I think at 5 million, that is a pretty good asset. I'll mention something quickly about rotations as well, because I had a bit of a look at this. In our first 15 game weeks, the four worst fixtures on paper, are Game Week 4, Home to Man City, and then Game Week 9/11/13, which are a way to Chelsea Liverpool and Newcastle. There are three clubs that have four really good home games in those same weeks, which are Spurs, Aston Villa, and Coventry. And that gives you options at like 5, 4.5, and 4 to potentially rotate with Haram Maguire. So you could have Van Heck maybe. You could have Consolidate. I'm off, see you later. It's just an interesting one. Have a look at it. Have a look at that rotation with-- Yeah, I'm going to rotate him refresh for a little bit. That's what I'm excited about. Yeah, Haram Maguire, I think, is a pretty good asset at 5 million for early in the season. Llamonds, I don't mind it, but I think I would just rather have two rotating 4.5s, because I've got a feeling we won't be too reliable for clean sheets as we're settling into playing in a bit of a new style. So I certainly wouldn't double up on our defence early doors, and Maguire would be the one for me. OK, that's interesting. The only comment I'd add to that is I very much poop who'd look sure when he got a mention on one of the pods last week. My stance on that has softened, I have to say. But you hearing those words from you that don't rule out if the window closes and there's very serious competition from I think in Maguire's case, at the moment, it needs probably 2 cent of acts to be a real problem from at this moment. My problem with him would be how secure is that in the long, long term. And I'm talking about getting into your setting rotation weeks while I think you mentioned game week 13. I don't know if I can look with confidence Harry Maguire that far at this period in time. But I think most people want to start, truthfully, with one of those free players for the short term. And let's say they're looking at a real long term. Right, I don't want to piss about my defenders. Actually, there's a reason no man's tonight. Defender is probably more than 5 million. I'm going to overlook it. That's fine. But I think most probably want to stick one of-- you can't escape that whole week, which I think is returns there at the start. And I look at Shaw. And what I thought about, I think, he is definitely starting in first two. And if I've picked a squad that had good balance for the long term, just leave him there. And if he ends up still playing, and I can use him the odd way, then fine. Are you not looking at me as a rotation? I'm just looking at him as maybe like as a possibly even a 50 defender. But I'd maybe just start in the first two. So I've softened my stance on that a little bit. Lister you're going to tell me Alex, that we should be looking at say, Dallow or Matt Sraway or Heaven or Yoro. The only one of those names that I think is worth it considering a little bit is Aidan Heaven. Dallow, I think, is a render to asset at 5.0. I think he should have been priced at 4.5. He's played seven seasons for us, and has some like 14 attacking returns in that time, something like that. He's-- to me, he's just a non-option at 5.0. He's not going to get Defcon's. You're better off getting a 5.0 Defcon defenders than Dago Dallow. Yoro, interestingly, has been playing right back in the field of the preseason games. He started on the right, which is interesting. Also, it was interesting that Heaven was preferred over Yoro to keep playing Santa back, basically, last night. So Heaven has started every single preseason game at left-sided Santa back alongside Maguire. And-- Comprehensive Maguire best, I think, that's probably quite important. One thing that's put me off slightly is he had a bit of a rough time last night. He made a couple of bad mistakes early on in the game. But let's see what news there is about Los Angeles Martins. And let's see what minutes there are in the last couple of games, because there's been no sign of Martins yet. Apparently, the injury picked up in the World Cup final was not serious. And he's just taking a bit more time to come back. But if Martins doesn't feature at all in the last two games and Heaven starts them, then that will suddenly look like Heaven will be good for those first two or three games as well. So if we're in that situation this time next week, it's viable. Yep, my only concern with Heaven a little bit more that an outlandish one. But let's say after the weekend of game week one, you went and bought Romero. You bought straight in your team? Correct. So whereas I don't think-- if Maguire and Martins were fit as a different example, and you bought Romero, Romero obviously would become like a first choice. But I don't think it walks into the team for that first game. That makes sense. So different is a little bit of a different style. Just in senior citizenship. I can't think of the right term or what seniority. That's the word I'm looking for senior citizenship. Maguire is not quite there yet. All right, let's finish with predicted game week 111. As it stands. OK. Just for a quick point on your last-- on what you just said there about Romero. Just very-- Senior citizenship. Yeah, I did. I was being in terms of signing.
we are being linked with potentially signing a left side descent but if we sign a centreback I think it actually, Lassumi who's a left footed centreback Colombian, it looks like if that's the player we're being linked with then I think they're looking at that Maguire Euro and Delictus find on that side of the season so I'll be surprised if we sign there. Okay, the 11 to start Game Week 1 massive caveats on this because I may change my opinion. I keep it like so I will give some commentary on this like as we get closer to Game Week 1. What I would say now with the information we have, Llamens, I think Dallow Maguire, Heaven, Shaw as the back four on the basis that the back this season has been those four but with Euro at the right back but Dallow I think coming in it is likely to come in but stick with the other three then in Central midfield and the caveat here is a made-in mount being fit because whether or not his injury last night is serious. Santos and Mount have started every preseason game together in Central midfield and looked and developed pretty well together as a pairing so I can see that sticking for Game Week 1 maybe not much beyond that and then for the front four Fernandez obviously at number 10 I would say at this point most likely as Cunya will start but I'm as I say I'd maybe put 60% on it and the other two I'm pretty confident will be Amar than Ambumo. Thank you, Richard Knight, do you think you're starting with in FPO? The moment Maguire and Ambumo as it stands I'm unlikely to have more than that because I'm trying to set up my team where I can stick with it a bit longer than like early wildcard so yeah understood but there's a good season that like for Man's Schneit well ask different United fans and you'll get different answers. I think if we solidify another Champions League place we maintain some stability there finishing the top four again and have a decent cup run it'd be nice to have a nice Champions League run that so we're building strengthening the foundations that will be good I think there's a danger that we slip back out of that so I would be happy with fourth in a good cup run. What's the worst thing that could happen this season? I mean you said earlier that people would be shocked at seventh or eighth I would not at all. I could be worse than that, Mick McCarthy, mate, he can. I did a predicted Premier League table earlier and I had as a eighth and I really wouldn't be surprised if that happens. I want to be optimistic and I'll keep an open mind and I'll change my prediction when the transfer window shots but as it stands this is a very different challenge playing in multiple competitions and I think the fact that the likes of Chelsea Spurs, Newcastle are all playing one game a week it's going to be a much tougher league in that respect so I would not be surprised if we significantly slip back from where we finished last season. Alex thank you very best of luck for the season. Your first clash of correspondence is ahead of game week five with Lewis James. Summary:
