The Premier League has released the findings of the Independent Commission into Manchester City's 115 charges and they make for quite extraordinary reading. The Independent Commission has found City guilty on all charges related to the breaches of Premier League financial rules between 2009 and 2018 and all, but one of the charges relating to non-cooperation. A damning statement described a decade long scheme of sham contracts and disguised funding, not officially inflating revenues and reducing costs by £900 million. It found the club knowingly filed misstated accounts and that some key witnesses knowingly gave untrue and dishonest evidence. Manchester City continued to deny any wrongdoing and have stated their intention to appeal before Friday's deadline. The question of sanctions including potential points, deductions or expulsion is still to be decided. Michael, it's obviously very difficult for you, you've very much associated with City, you unleague titles with them and various competitions. How did that news and how did you feel when you read that news? Well, first of all, the reports were troubling. I saw the word which were used by the Premier League in sham contracts. I felt absolutely devastated as obviously someone who loves Manchester City. I know we have a laugh on a joke about a sported Arsenal winner, but Manchester City is my club. Being at that club since I was 14 years old, I would die for that club. All the rollercoaster from being in the academy, down at Platt Lane, going all the way through, making it to the first team. I achieved my dream at Manchester City. I did. But then to hear these reports, and not only me as a player, but the fans, what they have to go through, absolutely devastated my digs, man, for those who don't know a digs, someone who you leave home and you go staying where it was me and Manchester and Gatley. He rang me today and he was literally in tears about and asking me about information, which I don't know. I haven't got the answers to tell him. Not someone who supported the club for 68, 60 odd years, and the uncertainty around it is just, it's heartbreaking. The words I use are heartbreaking to have a headline of this nature for a club that I love so much. It's been difficult. If you listen to the reports, what I've been said, they are damning. So how do I feel, I feel saddened, I feel angry, I feel a little bit confused, because on the other side you have cities side of the story. I saw the interview that Farhan had, and he said they've got evidence to prove that they're innocent, essentially. What a mess, what a complete and utter mess. I go back to what we said at the weekend. The ramifications go so far, it's unbelievable, because where does it stop? Where do the club stop? Where do individuals stop? Where do the accolades, I mean there's so much at stake here for football, for the Premier League and obviously for Manchester City. So yeah, I just, it's a complete and utter mess, isn't it? I mean, I look at their success, clearly that they have to wait for the sanctions to come out. Then do they appeal them? I mean, if it all comes out in terms of, yeah, you're done, you're banged to right. How do they get over? How do they look back, and other fans have had their memories? But that agueros moment, that is one of, if not the greatest moment, in Premier League history in terms of how it unfolded and what happened on the day, and that's blown apart that is now, if that's what's going to happen, you know, it's like, it's done. That memory, what we all, I mean, I'm not a city fan, and I don't really care, but that for me was one of the iconic moments in Premier League history, when or if City are done or banged to rights. It's finished. Me being in that dressing room and the players have nothing to do with what happens in boardrooms, with decisions on players, with finances and all that sort of stuff. And the camaraderie that we had in that dressing room now is going to be called into question whether people believe it was legit. And there are no winners in this, if man, if man City do the appeal and get off of the appeal, then it's still going to be tarnished. And then if they found guilty, you know, after the appeal, then what happens in it, it's not just man City fans or man City players, it's a whole of the Premier League comes into question, that's a bit which this could be something that goes on for years and years and years. At this point, I would say, you know, obviously a lot of football fans will say, get some kind of satisfaction out of this, but for me, the people that suffer the most with these things, and I've been part of, you know, lest as my team, and they got point reductions and proved really costly, and they, you know, they got things wrong and we accepted it. I just wonder if Manchester City would be better off just, I mean, unless, I mean, I saw for Anne's statement where he's, you know, he said we've got irrefutable evidence. Well, if it was irrefutable, that would have been shown before. This is an independent committee that has made this as well, it's not part of the Premier League. It's a separate thing. He also said that, you know, we appealed before against UEFA and we got that overturned, but they got that overturned because it was time-barred. It wasn't necessary to do with any of the evidence. So, you know, with these things, if they've been found guilty, that they, I'm sure they will appeal, I wonder if they'd actually be better off just sent, maybe we got it wrong, we apologize, we take the punishment, we take the sanctions and let's try and move on. Whatever happens has to be done quickly because we can't have a scenario where they're appealing and they're sitting top of the league and there's a chance they could win the league again. Do you know what I mean? I don't know the legal situation in terms of whether they can dish out the punishment regardless of an appeal, but the people that really suffer, I always think, as well with these things, is the fans. I mean, the fans will go turn defensive now because you do. That's what will happen. You know, they'll say the world's against us, it's all wrong, and you know, I understand that because I had that feeling when Leicester got punished to a degree. This is obviously a much, much, much bigger deal. This is not just over, slightly overspending. This is said to be, you know, arranging sham contracts with commercial partners to I should physically inflate revenues and reduce costs, disguise funding schemes. This is, I mean, these scurrilous behaviour and, you know, whilst the fans will get protective and defensive and you understand that and they ultimately with the people that suffer from this, but it's a can of worms and it has so many ramifications, not just for Manchester City, but elsewhere as well, if, you know, other clubs that may have just missed out on the league title suddenly go, well, hang on a bit, are they going to sue Manchester City or sue the Premier League or who knows what might happen over the next week's months? And you know, if it's an appeal, I don't know how long that appeal would last hopefully not as long as it did for this one. You know what is strange about it though, you know from the players' point of view, the the plays up. come and go. Some players have a great feeling with the fans, don't they? And they loved and they have that chemistry, but because I've been there or because I was there at 14. I genuinely love the club. So I will feel it more than maybe a player that's been there for two or three years, maybe the one, the Premier League or whatnot. So it's, I can only speak from my point of view. You know, this is how I feel because the club have done so much for me, but we certain players who I'm not saying don't really care, but don't have the emotion, you know, that I have towards the club. And that's why it's such a difficult place to be. And it just needs to be sorted out sooner rather than later because the more it drags on, the worse it becomes the three people on the committee. That's not no, we don't know who they actually are, but obviously they will be people that I would imagine very, very qualified in this position, they are independent from the Premier League. And also, I would say Manchester City over the last, well, is it two, three years or even longer if you go back to the previous cases would have had the very, very best lawyers that money can buy because obviously they've got exceptional wealth. And then to come out of it and say, well, we've got irrefutable evidence that this is not the case is is quite hard to fathom and believe because why wouldn't that evidence if it was so irrefutable of being used previously on all charges. I mean, the Premier League wouldn't have wanted this either. I mean, it's the last thing in the world that you've got to remember that as well. Do you think they really want this scandal, this pickle, this mess that we're in at this point, of course, they wouldn't. So, but they obviously felt there was wrongdoing. It's now been said that there is wrongdoing. And now we're in a position where unless that is proved wrong in an appeal, then that is the case. You know, if you go to a trial and court and you'll found guilty of something, you're guilty. And I suppose the question is now what happens from here? Let's disregard the fact that there'll probably be an appeal. But what would be a reasonable punishment? I don't, where do you start? I have to also think whether other people knew, you know, I mean, Pep leaving when it did them stop piling signings in the summer. I don't know. Whatever way you look at it, you can say, well, yeah, that may be true. I'm not, but I do the summary still questions, I guess. But yeah, I don't know, I don't know where you go with this because it's just a terrible look for football, terrible look for the Premier League. I mean, the punishment could be huge. It could be massive. And if they lose their appeal or whatever they do, then I guess they can't really complete after having that for so long. Yeah, if they've done wrong, they should get the required punishment without without doubt. What's open to the Premier League to do in terms of punishment, a big points deduction? I've seen lots of people saying things as you do on social media, etc. and some interesting ones, you know, do you give them a big point reduction and make sure that get relegated. And then they're in the championship and then what do the championship do with Manchester City, you know, so obviously we have different governing bodies in our game. We've got the Premier League and then we've got the football league, which is totally different and how do they handle it? I saw an interesting one that I think, you know, is possibly viable that you could maybe give them a 20 to 25 point reduction for the next five seasons. So they decelerate and they stay in the mid table, which is an interesting one, obviously probably a transfer ban for quite some time. And a huge fine, which is obviously that that won't make any difference to Manchester City in reality. So I mean, watch this space rule, isn't it? Absolutely, I mean, there's people at the club who are now at other clubs as well, I guess, which we'll have questions to answer as well. So yeah, just a mess and complete and utter mess, which I think needs needs a needs an end, an end story pretty quickly for for the sake of football. The one thing I would say, Micah, and your not your defense, because none of the footballers would have ever had any kind of idea of any of these shenanigans that were going on. They just want to perform and do their stuff on the pitch and win trophies and do great things. And then quality of play, I might not have been a Manchester City. No, that I was about to follow with that particular point and that's that will be other people's argument. Well, you always slugged me off as a player, I was there, I would have lead me, what are you going to say now? Well, we might be saying, you haven't won a league anymore, that's what we might be saying. No one's taking my Premier League. I think doing that turning over all the trophies is such a kind of worms that I and also so cruel on the players and the fans, so cruel. And whoever's lost out whether it be Liverpool or whether it be man United or Arsenal, whoever, they wouldn't want that. Do you want to win a title that way? But then you also have to think, you have to think, I mean, you go back to Jürgen Klopp and that team that he had, when they missing out with us, it's like. 98.99, that stuff. Right, let's talk about football, which is much more enjoyable, I think, than the first half. I watched the game and as we did, you know, it was a solid England performance. Obviously, once they went down to 10 minutes, it became just a matter of time and walk in the park in many ways. But who impressed you, Alan? Anthony Gordon impressed me. Trent, I thought it was a brilliant ball. You know what it's like when you go way to those places. It's tough. You've just got to get in there. You're right. It would have been a better test if he hadn't been sent off, but by and large. I mean, you got caught on the counter attack a couple of times in the first 15 minutes of so England, but. Yeah, I thought you've just got to go there. You win and you get out and you get this three points and you move on. Well, I thought Anthony Gordon was the pick of the bunch, didn't you? Yeah, I thought he was terrific. Yeah, I thought he was positive. It took his goal really well, a brilliant ball in from Trent. I thought every time he got the ball, thought he was a threat. The defender didn't know whether he was going to try and cut inside. A lot of the time he went on the outside, lay on the game, he clicked a lovely ball in. I think it was Morgan Rodgers that missed the header. So yeah, I thought he was without doubt the pick of the bunch Anthony Gordon. Yeah, I would agree with that. A little shout out to Trent, though, as well. Yeah, to Gordon. Did everything he needed to do? Yeah, just because he started the game. Like he was a little bit nervous, I would say. He's the ball away, then he was running back. And then he sort of the way check set up. He couldn't get the ball in the positions to make an impact that he wanted to. Not going back to the World Cup because it's behind us now. But you know when we talk about 26 players out. I understand you've got to take players in form or whatever. And the reason why I was shouting out for the likes of Trent. and say Cole Palmer is because they can turn a game on the head even when they're not playing well and with his assist there's not many players in World Football that can do that. That delivery is just and it only takes a one moment like that in a World Cup to change a game. So that's why I always bang on about a Palmer or a Trent. We're taking it back to Gordon. More than his performance, his interviews, his interviews are absolutely amazing. Very smart, very articulate, knows what he wants. He's got a different kind of confidence where he believes in his ability. He talked about he always thought he would go to Barcelona. He believed in himself and the thing is when you have that confidence you have to deliver and that's what he's got into his game now. He's got a thick fort assist in La Liga already this season and he's already scoring for England and looks like the player that the rest of the guys can rely on which is a very good sign. They were a threat down there for him and Lewis Hall obviously know each other. I thought him and Lewis Hall did did well when they had to. They're understanding of each other's game. I totally agree. I thought Lewis Hall was excellent and Anthony Gordon as well. He is very intelligent. I heard those interviews myself. I've said to Harry today I'd love to go into Barcelona and have a good chat and interview. I hope to try and make that happen. Do you want to DM him? I know he came on legal on his own. It's such a great player going forward. I love watching him play. I think in that situation though guys make it. I think when you're down to 10 men and you need that someone to unlock your defense with a bit of quality. I mean we said that. I didn't we all summer as that. When a defense is sitting deep or when you need that little bit of magic, that's where he delivered that today when we needed it more. I mean the cross was brilliant. So was the header from Anthony Gordon but I thought in that situation Trent more than stood up here. Any downsides? I thought Saka was poor again, didn't you? He's not at his absolute best. Sure a score as well in the first half. He had a sitter. Didn't he win them? Was it when England hit the post or something like that? Yes man, it's back off the post, yeah. He ball came back into him and he missed a big opportunity. I don't think he was great Saka. No, but we're all allowed bad games from time to time. But I think I think obviously Scott DeHatrick didn't in the third place playoff and he's had a reasonable start I think with Arsenal this season but you know he's a class player and you know you have little dips in form at time. I'm sure I'm sure he'll come back. But I tell you impress me when he came on. He does he's not scared to take someone on. He has got like he's got seriously talented young player. It's fearless, isn't he? Yeah, to have that fearlessness at 18. It's just yeah, it's great. Honestly, I love watching him and even when he gives the ball away and especially at Liverpool at times, he can be frustrating for the fans and I know a lot of my Liverpool fans say they love him but he tries a little bit too much but I don't mind it. I don't mind it. Keep going and going and going and yeah, whether he's he's chaining direction quickly, whether he's running in behind, he's just got that confidence. He's a live wire. I really like him, radio. He's got something very very special to be that good at that age. Yeah, Liverpool enjoy him over the next this season. That's for sure. I mean Harry Kane got his goal again and he just delivers, doesn't he? It's a brilliant finish as well. How he just finds himself there and then the finish was classy, straight away, no messing, good finish, keep it no chance he gets and then it's brilliant. You know what? I had this debate a while ago and I think the debate was something like Runei Kane and Shira or something like that. Runei might not have been in it and I picked you. I did because when I was growing up, like the goals that you scored and headers and all that, bullied that, it was a mate, but now I generally think Kane's took it to the next level. I think for someone not to be particularly strong, someone not to be particularly fast, obviously his brains at a different level. I think he's pretty strong. Yeah, but he's you know, he gets his body well, he uses his body well, but I wouldn't say he won't say Kane is a strong player. He won't say oh, that is his attribute, but he uses his body well. I'll take that, but he's finishing right foot left foot. It's not normal. You're not changing your mind, you've gone, you've got to get your beat, are you been drinking tonight or what? No, well I shouldn't be after the day of that, but no, I just threw it out with nonsense like that, Richard. The purity of the strike is it's not normal. Right foot left foot dropping into little pockets and all that sort of stuff. I know he was different players, both top goal scorers, but when he's in the box and never think he's going to miss, he always seems to hit the target. Yes, he missed the penalty against Spain and yes, he missed the penalty against France in big games, but when he's in the box, yeah, he's finishing is so deadly. He's so deadly. Yeah, even the one he had on the edge of the box, where he bends it, keeping made a really good save. I mean, he's so accurate. I mean, he's such a great, great goal scorer. Interesting though. I just thought that I'm a tactical perspective that when Cain came off, he didn't put Calvert Lewin on, he kind of played Bellingham as a false knight. Interesting, yeah. Which I think, looking ahead, obviously, you know, what's Cain now, 32, 33 now. So, you know, we're going to have to look beyond Harry Cain at some point, and there's no natural, I don't think, there's not a natural progressive at the moment, but I think maybe, maybe too cool sees Bellingham as possibly as a false knight. I don't know. I mean, he could play anywhere. I thought that as well, because you said that before, you said that a few weeks back, is that that was a similar thing and as soon as he, he brought him on, I thought exactly the same thing. Yeah. I'm not sure, though, guys, I just prefer Bellingham's runs from from deeper. I feel like he can get more on the ball, and he's got more presence in that midfield, whether he's tackling, whether he's driving, where he's shooting. So, yes, in terms of short term, I'd probably agree, but, but long term, it needs to, it needs to be a free spirit in midfield to do what he needs to do. It's just the lack of options, though, isn't it? That's, I think that's the reason why I was sort of silly. We need to conjure up a national competition now to find the next number nine. After Harry Kane, who's he going to be? A youngster. We need a youngster that's that can bang in a few goals. I'll tell you what, if Liam Delac has a good, because when he was at Manchester City, and when he went to Ipswich, yes, he went to Chelsea, did really well at Ipswich. He did work out, but he looked like he's got the attributes to take that over. I thought, if he has a really good season at Forest, build that confidence again, gets 15-20 goals, then yes, it's not the same level, but he can occupy that, that middle area, I would say.
