Do you think a lot of people go into meetings with Donald Trump?
I think thinking they're going to be the one to get over on him.
And I sometimes often think, I've watched this now for 10 years.
They screw up because they underestimate him.
Like, what is your goal for a meeting with Donald Trump?
What do you want to come out of a meeting with Donald Trump?
I want to just speak plainly to the president about what it means to actually stand up for New Yorkers.
And the way in which New Yorkers are struggling to afford this city.
And frankly, cost of living is something that I heard time and time again from New Yorkers
about why they voted for Donald Trump.
And this is something that has only continued in the last few months of this year,
where we're hearing about child care concerns, rent concerns, con-ed concerns.
Even just getting on the bus, just 2 dollars and 90 cents.
And just to make it clear to the president that this is what we're talking about.
These are the stakes for New Yorkers and their ability to...
Zoran Mamdani is going into the role of the Leo today.
He's going to visit President Trump in the White House.
And you might not be able to say it, but both gentlemen are excited about it.
[Music]
You certainly wouldn't say that, but it is true.
And in this episode I'm going to tell you why that is.
Why both gentlemen also need each other.
But also why respect for each other is.
Later today in the White House.
That meeting in the Oval Office between Trump and the Mayor-elect.
Because that's what the just elected mayor of New York, Zoran Mamdani,
he himself calls himself a democratic socialist.
As well as Bernie Sanders, who of course does that, and AOC, are city lovers.
But yes, Trump and after Trump, all other republicans, call him a communist.
And very honestly, a number of Democrats call him a communist too.
So President Trump also visited.
He did that through TruthSocial, of course.
And then he says, the communist mayor of New York City, Zoran Kwame Mamdani,
has asked for a meeting.
We have all decided that this meeting will take place this Friday in the Oval Office.
November 21st, more details follow.
And of course you think, why does Mamdani want this?
And why does Trump want this?
As I said, there are a number of logical reasons for this.
Let's start with the most foreshadowing.
Ultimately, both gentlemen also need each other.
In any case, Mamdani needs Trump.
Because of course he wants to prevent the National Guard from sending him to New York.
And we can let go of all sorts of interesting, wise, political theories.
That Mamdani would actually like it.
So it would be nice if Trump was going to go there.
And then he says, they won't come in here.
And then there will be a huge showdown.
But yes, Mamdani also knows that if that really becomes a showdown,
he can eventually lose it.
So he also has a debate about, in any case, as they say in the United States,
"onspeaking terms to be with the president".
And Trump has a debate about it, because he of course really wants the rising star,
the face of the Democratic Party, to come to him as an audience.
Almost as if he has to kiss the ring with Trump.
Of course Trump likes that.
But there are also some other reasons that you might not expect so much.
Why Trump also looks at this meeting.
And that's because Trump has a lot of respect for Mamdani.
Yes, Trump makes it ridiculous.
Yes, Trump calls him a communist.
Yes, Trump calls him the biggest danger for America.
But privately, against co-workers and friends, Trump has already made more mistakes
that he thinks Mamdani is a huge talent.
Maybe the biggest talent in the Democratic Party.
And that strikes, I think, two things.
One, yes, Trump has a look at it.
Because what you also think of Mamdani's ideas, he is a great talent.
As well as Trump, what you also think of his ideas, a great politician.
Of course, he has a finger-picking feeling.
And at the same time, he describes that it is often a show for Trump.
I don't know if I have told it too long ago.
So yes, sorry for the doubling.
But coincidentally, a journalist told a very nice anecdote.
He had an interview with Trump in the Oval Office as well.
And yes, that went on and on.
And Trump finished the journalist completely and you were ashamed of the journalist.
And your sender would have to beat you up and how dare you stand up in the bed in the morning.
And of course, the camera light went off.
Did he say to the journalist, have you taken your wife with you to Washington?
So yes, then I have a nice restaurant for you.
Just opened, advice, tip.
And the two of them are okay, huh?
To give it a shot, that it is also always a very big show element for Trump.
Also how he now, when the camera lights are on, Mamdani attacks.
But inside the room, he then says to his friends, that guy, he can get away.
That's a talent.
And Trump thinks it's also interesting that he has to come to the audience with him.
But B, that Trump can also see him in the eyes, can meet.
And the most interesting thing is of course, that, apart from the fact that you can sit with popcorn ready for these meetings,
that it can be spotted at any moment.
But that can of course be met with more meetings in the White House with Trump.
But the most interesting thing about it, I think, is that both gentlemen, in the end,
have the same background for a part.
Both gentlemen are currently also busy with the same theme.
Namely, where we also, last week in the podcast, and this week, also have a number of times,
have considered for the billetier.
The fact that the prices are still very high.
Mamdani has won those elections.
The fact that a lot of New Yorkers can no longer live in New York, but have to live far beyond that,
to be able to work in New York.
New York is unpayable.
That's why he wants to make it public.
That's why he wants to take over a number of supermarkets,
so that they need certain basic necessities,
such as water and other food products.
Food products, I have to say.
So that he can make that cheaper.
And that's why he wants to freeze the price.
Now, I can go on for a while and get rid of what you think is the politics.
There he won the elections.
And there Trump, along with immigration of course, also won the elections.
And there Trump is now very involved in the conflict.
Because, as we have often discussed,
Trump hasn't been in state before to lower the prices.
That's also logical, because there is no barrel stock for it.
But a lot of voters do think that Trump, with all that hype,
with all the other things that he does, is still building a ballroom.
Yes, he makes a lot of money, he makes a lot of money,
but the groceries are still still just that expensive.
Today again, a very big panic was caused this time by Fox News Notabene,
in which many Americans themselves say that the policy of the president,
their own personal finances, has made it worse.
Instead of that, it has improved.
And that is of course a huge drama for President Trump.
With this promise, that if I still see some room in my agenda,
that I, for example, will make an extra episode there tomorrow,
if there are of course very important things in the world to happen,
such as an development in Venezuela,
or the whole dispute between Trump and Mamdani,
I'm not going to make an extra episode there tomorrow.
But that doesn't happen.
If you already have the foreshadowing on that meeting between Trump and Mamdani later today,
then I promise to make an extra episode tomorrow,
about the still enduring argument of Trump with the numbers.
Trump says it's going great, voters say, well, I don't notice that,
in his own portfolio.
But both gentlemen are therefore busy with that subject, those prices.
And then you also see that we can talk a little bit about a background of Trump
and a background of Mamdani.
And for a part there are also very different backgrounds,
but for a part they also overlap.
I have seen several people online and in interviews and the like,
who had voted for Trump, but now for Mamdani.
Like of course a lot of people have voted for Trump,
but for that they voted for Barack Obama twice.
And the same people voted for George W. Bush twice.
It's not like there are always only two camps,
you just have a large group of voters in the middle,
the last years a larger group that thinks that the whole system is rotten
and that something has to happen.
And so they vote on the one hand on the human side,
Donald Trump, the orange man in the porcelain cabinet.
But yes, if they have the idea that these solutions are insufficient,
they reject fruit.
For example, when it comes to their personal finances.
And then Mamdani says it's indeed a huge problem.
The system is rotten.
The elite makes a mess.
Trump has the same, but his solutions don't work.
In my opinion, we are going to do this and this and this and this.
Yes, that a lot of people will say, well, I'm going for Mamdani.
So, I at least look forward to that meeting.
I think it can be very interesting.
Both gentlemen have respect for each other,
they need each other and at least find it interesting
to look into each other's eyes.
But for both gentlemen, of course,
they have chosen each other to their favorite opponent.
Yes, it has everything in itself to make those oppositions clear,
to put blood in that oval office.
So I think that's going to be a nice, annoying TV show.
At least let me close this point with the fact that it's always good,
you also know how I'm in the game, that it's always good
to keep talking to each other.
So yes, Mamdani can say Trump is a very dangerous man.
And Trump can say Mamdani is a very dangerous communist man.
But it's good that they don't mind talking to each other.
And let's hope that they stay that way.
Of course, until then, a small, personal note of myself.
Well, until then, what you have to know about me,
about the meeting between Trump and Mamdani later today,
then continue to ask your questions.
And the first question is about a building of not so much the White House itself,
but from the website of the White House.
Bas asks me if I'm familiar with a pagina in the White House,
where you learn something about the history of the White House.
Major events, timeline, that's what it's called.
And then you can see quite a few sticks under water
towards Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and also Joe Biden.
On the photos you see evidence of a Monokalowinsky,
a cooking company by Hunter and a transgender party by Biden.
A meeting between the Muslim Brotherhood and Obama.
He asks, what do I think of it?
Well, Bas, I just said very carefully what I think of the meeting between Trump and Mamdani.
Namely, it's good that people keep talking to each other.
This podcast is not about my opinion,
but well, I wanted to share that with you.
Yes, now that I've done that, I can also share my opinion here.
Let me tell you very clearly, it's not presidential.
And that's not to do this, then I will print out my views.
I do want to answer a serious question,
or perhaps a kind of similar question, namely why Trump does this.
For me, this describes that Trump uses the social media
and even the internet to troll.
And he also does that with those films in which he says
that he will go to the demonstrators for 2028
or in which he will fly to the Straljager for demonstrations
and dumps on them.
That is, on its own, said that I am not going to say presidential,
but it is how Trump uses the social media
as a kind of trolling empty and he also does that with it.
Then there are also some questions that have come in
about how it can also be done differently in Ukraine.
Ton, for example, who asks,
can Trump ever do anything about this problem in the sense of solution?
Yes, Ton, of course, it has become known this week
that there is a kind of 28-point plan behind the screens,
that seems a bit like the peace deal between Israel and Hamas.
The Palestine, Gaza, I have to say.
Trump, in any case, says honestly,
let me start with this, that he has underestimated this.
That can also be said if I solve it within 24 hours.
Well, everyone understands that it would not be solved within 24 hours.
It is a bit of a playful way, so to speak,
but you could have solved it first if it was so easy to know.
But Trump also says that I have underestimated this.
I thought it was the easiest, but it is the most difficult.
I know that every expert can tell me that,
but anyway, Trump will never solve it,
and we will continue to try.
In any case, but I think we have to end at this point
from the idea that at one point
we have the solution or the deal within reach,
in any case within considerable time.
We are going to meet for a very long time,
I think, from almost deals behind the screens,
then again not, and then he says this and then he says that.
I say that for a while, but that's how I see
the new 28 points plan.
It is something that is out of hand between the Americans and the Russians,
where especially the Russians have said what they want,
and the Americans on control C, control V have pressed
based on their peace agreement in the Middle East.
Well, that must be discussed with the Ukrainians.
They have been updated, but they still have little input to deliver.
Yes, they will not think this is okay.
At the same time, it is so that the money starts to be touched.
The Americans of course do not pay for the weapons to Ukraine.
Europe wants to do that, but yes, Europe is angry.
So yes, maybe we will certainly get closer to such a deal,
but I do not see it happening very quickly.
To be honest, also not with this 28 points plan,
but of course we will continue to follow it.
And then finally, a question from Nick.
He asks if I can soon make an extra episode
with closing questions from Luisterage.
I understand that there is daily news from America,
but we also have so many questions where we would like to hear your answer.
Yes, Nick, I promise that is good.
Maybe to take you with me in my head, what I always do.
I always make, you know it, I'm half dead,
but always the podcast of Monday to Friday.
And I try to sit on the news, but also sometimes to handle themes,
which I think is good, because it's good to do that now anyway.
I still have a little extra to report, then I make an extra episode.
Something very important happens in the weekend,
then I make an extra episode.
And if I still have a lot of questions from you,
then I make an extra episode about that.
And then there is one last option that I tell you.
Well, for example, we are going to make an extra episode,
a kind of explainer, for example, between time choices.
Do you have any questions about studying, then I will handle that in an extra episode.
So those kinds of things are all going to come up.
If that's the case, I'll let you know.
As just said, if I have time tomorrow,
I will take an extra episode for Saturday,
about those very bad financial and economic controversies
about President Trump's policy.
Well, you also have a question about questions you know.
The mail address is in the show notes, so send it in.
And you know, I will answer it in one of the next episodes.
Until then and until then.
Hey, maybe you have listened to this podcast while you were making a smoothie.
Or during a walk. Or to relax.
Well, as you can see again, we are all different.
