'MAGA Men Are So Castrated!' Chelsea Handler Lets Loose on Trump; They're Spiraling
62m 18s
Chelsea Handler reflects on her evolving views regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, describing Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza as criminal and a violation of human rights. She criticizes the politicization of anti-Semitism, noting that critics of Israel face disproportionate backlash while global genocides—like those in Sudan or Darfur—are ignored. Handler underscores the need for universal human rights, arguing that both U.S. and Israeli governments fail to uphold them through policies that devalue certain lives. She connects this to broader societal issues, such as racism, institutional segregation, and the influence of wealth and power. Drawing from her experiences in Oklahoma and her exposure to marginalized communities, she highlights how people in rural or red states often lack awareness of systemic oppression. Handler condemns the rise of fascist ideologies, particularly among political and entertainment figures, and criticizes the silence of powerful individuals who profit from ignoring human suffering. She calls for action and unity, especially in the upcoming midterms, urging citizens to resist authoritarianism by voting and demanding accountability. Her perspective emphasizes that true progress requires more than political debate—it demands a shared commitment to empathy, justice, and the recognition of all lives as equally valuable.

And so I'm curious if your personal stance on this issue, which seems to be really big in every political race we have, has evolved as so many other Americans has on the Israel issue. We're just going to switch it to talk about something light, shall we? Yeah, of course, of course. Of course, it has evolved. It has evolved. We have Chelsea Handler here today on I've had a weekend in studio. She's a comedian at television host, seven-time New York Times best-selling author, seven-time I prefer Arthur. Arthur, why are you being a bitch already? I'm not. I'm just giving it to you. We're friends. I can do that. You're headlining your high and mighty tour. I am, then. You're not even going to be here for my New York date on September 25th. I'm going to the Tampa show. Oh, yeah. Perfect. I love. I couldn't wait to get back to Florida. I wanted to nail those dates down right away. Exactly. You know what I decided about Florida? Because I usually don't go to Florida. But I do go to Texas to perform because I feel like Texas has a chance of turning blue at some point or electing the right person instead of the wrong ones. I don't want to go to Florida, and then I was dating a guy that was from Florida. He was like, "You have to go to Florida." I'm like, "No, I just don't go to Florida. I'm sorry." And even to visit a boyfriend, I'm not going. And then I got all these messages from people in Florida being like, "You know, we're here. There's lots of blue people here and Democrats here. I don't even care if you're, well, I do care now at this point if you're a Democrat." And I was like, "You know what? People are more important than the state." So I am doing some dates in Florida, and yeah, and they sold out right away. So apparently they're hungry for it. Because a lot of artists probably feel similarly to the way I do. Blue dots in red states are the toughest progressive fighters this country has. Yes. I've heard you say this, and it's absolutely 100% on the money. They are craving because I was one and one craving camaraderie and like-mindedness with such intensity because it's like, in New York or LA, you just walk outside and you breathe the liberal air. You don't have to worry about people taking away your right to an abortion. You don't have to worry about them favoring the rights of a rapist or the rights of guns over your children and things like that. You don't have to worry about it. You just breathe liberal air and you know, pretty much there's degrees of fucked-upness within the Democratic Party. But in general, they're not going to just really suck it to you. So there's some really good fighters. But it's difficult going into these states where you know the majority of people. I think you're just a childless cat lady lip tart. Yeah, but I'm not there for long enough to interact with those people. You know, it's pretty in and out. You go to your show and whoever's coming to my show is not obviously feeling that way. And if they are, then they were dragged there by somebody and I'm fine with that. But yeah, but you have a very unique experience coming from Oklahoma and getting to breathe the liberal air. So like, and I have an assistant who I told you, she's more than an assistant. She's my life manager and my life partner. She's from Enid Oklahoma. So when she got to LA, she was an intern for me on my very first show, Chelsea Lately or not was any whatever. And she was you know, believed that abortions, you know, should be illegal and that nobody should get one. She had very strong belief system, Christian belief system. And then once she got to LA and like, you know, many people do, I know you had your, you never had to have an awakening, really. You were just in the wrong place. You had to deprogram pumps. So that was an assignment. And I started to deprogram my assistant and then she kind of resented me. You know, she's like, I don't know if I believe all the things that you believe. I'm like, listen, abortion is more about a lot more than just killing a baby. That's not what it is. Like let's break it down and talk about like the way people are living in this world and things that happen to people in this world. And you know, financial insecurity, food insecurity, all of these issues. But she left me for a couple of years and worked for someone else because she said she had to get away from my political viewpoints was one of the reasons. She also had a kid during that time. She wanted to do that out of my presence. Now she's my favorite baby in the world obviously, but she, she came to all of these conclusions on her own without my influence. And now, you know, is barely speaking to the people that still believe in those things. So it like I was thinking about that when I was walking down here today from my hotel about like how you change your viewpoint without getting out of those small places. How does one change their viewpoint if they're not exposed to the real world or a bigger world or a larger portion of the population? Yeah, I think that it's something that with the internet now is really helpful. We have another producer, Seth, and he's based in Oklahoma and he was raised in rural, rural, rural Oklahoma. And his mother was a secretary at this Baptist church and Seth and his family had no internet in the house. And so Seth would go, "Mom, can I go to work with you?" And he could get on the computer that had Wi-Fi. And while she's doing all the Southern Baptist bookkeeping and stuff, he completely deconstructed his faith in junior high and high school on the Southern Baptist Wi-Fi network in rural Oklahoma, listening to the likes of Hassan Piker, Radical Kami, and other people. And so that's really kind of changing things too, whereas probably your assistant from Oklahoma and Angie, it's really all, it's all they know. There aren't other options. It's this way or the highway. You have to believe this. And indoctrination is so powerful. I think a lot of times when people do program themselves, they go through a lot of grief from it. They feel grief. It's almost like a loss for them. Yeah. Yeah. I would say that's true. Because it leads to just an excommunication of sorts with those people that still believe in that system because there is, they're so intransigent. And then we become intransigent in our ideology. And if you want to call it that, which, you know, I'm sure, I know they do. So it's very, it's not something that I wish for anyone to go through. But I have zero tolerance, as I know you do as well, for any of that nonsense anyway. It's too stupid at this point. Well, I want to talk about your tolerance for beating meat. Play the clip. This is a picture of me not so stupid. But he ran a campaign to beat meat. He called it beat meat. I don't know what the hell he meant by that. He's so vile. These people are going to tell me, what the hell does he want to beat meat? Okay. So that was the Republican Convention this week in Dallas, Texas. And I have made a theory that I think Trump is in his deathbed confession era. We're seeing a lot of bisexuality coming up. You know, he's constantly talking about, you know, how hot he thinks men are. You're such a good-looking guy. Look at this handsome guy. Kiss that guy right on the mouth. I mean, just drooling at resort on Mamdani, I mean the complete Kami enemy of a whole Kami enemies for a mega person. And here he is talking about beating meat to a room full of just complete abject Bible tempers. These people, I mean, he bates, you know, he also offered to pay them $5,000 each. Yes, he did. I'm going to pay. I'm going to pay everyone who votes for the Republican party, not even him, just for Republicans. You're going to get a $5,000 check. And they're cheering for him. And it's like, you know, we've discussed this before. There is no bottom. It doesn't matter that he's cheating or that he's saying he's cheating, which is basically what he's said. I mean, he said it all. Right. He said everything. And so these people are, there is a group of people that just will never let go of the idea. Like, they could be starving for three months with no food, no gas, no electricity. And they would still be like, we believe in him. This is for the war. I guess in Iran, I mean, I'm not sure. I don't know. No, it's, it's true. There's no thought. It's just that they did, but you have to imagine how dumb would you have to be. I mean, I know that these Republican Congress people and senators are in hell right now, because they're just waiting to see what happens in these midterms if they can steal them. Like, we should held on. We have to keep our, you know, we have to keep a pace with him to some degree because he might be able to steal this election, like, that's what they're banking on. Right. And then if he doesn't, then they have to separate quickly because otherwise they're all toast. So it's like, and most of them are intelligent enough, not all of them. But most of them are intelligent enough to see the writing on the wall, right? So if he's not able to steal this election, like, what, what, what, what are they going to do? What, what, then what happens? Like, what happens after the midterms? I can't fucking wait. I can't either because it, and I'm still terrified of it. Like, there were a lot of empty seats there last night, but he's taken a victory lap, of course. And they're going to try to cheat. They are already election interference with Jimmy Kimmel, not allowing Jimmy to air the interview.
you with James Tolerico, which is the same bullshit they didn't hungry. And my guard still won. He's still defeated and they got that autocrat out. But you know, they move. They they switch. They're rotating villains. They have immigrants. Of course. Yes. Trans people, trans athletes, kids that use litter boxes in school. Teachers that are performing sex change jobs in school. Yes. And school. It's amazing. Yeah. Like I kind of feel like 95 forms. You have my kid get an aspirin. Much less get the wiener whacked off. That wasn't an option in my in on boarding uh, signing my kids up for school. I love that people who are anti trans believe that you can go to school and transition in the afternoon. Yeah. And then you come home and your parents just like take 38 surgeries and consultations and psychiatric evaluations. And that somebody is just doing that because they want to have a good time. And here's the problem. The people Trump saying that shit is one thing is we expect him to wake up and stay. Say crazy shit. The people who are supposed to provide a guard rail continue to perpetuate this lie, the sitting attorney general and Epstein apologist Todd Blanche. Repeated on the news over a couple weekends ago that it's epidemic. This wiener whacking stuff that's going on in schools. I believe Macmayan, the woman who runs the Department of Education who's has been is involved in of course some sexual abuse scandal because all Republicans seem to be involved in these. She repeats the same lies. My thing about a lot of these Republican men is they literally have no balls. They can't grow a pair because they're waiting for Trump to possibly cheat to win. And that's the wrong thing they should be doing. They should be Republican party Richard Nixon Nixoning this thing. Well that's 80. That's what's that's what is so like crazy to think about with all of these people. It's like like you just don't understand what your end game is. First of all, fascism has never had a good ending. When did it end well? Like Hitler blowing himself, you know, blowing his brains out in a bunker. Mussolini did that end well. Like I love how they think that this is a long game because Trump is just in it for the grift. He's just there. Like I'm gonna plunder the government. I'm gonna plunder everybody's money. I'm gonna take everything I can while I'm here and being opportunists and enrich my family and leave a mark and a stain including into filing the Oval Office with his feces with you know, shitting his pants ever. I mean that's where we have a president who is shitting his pants in the Oval Office and a vice president who's standing up right behind him. That's wearing eyeliner. That is wearing eyeliner. Like so the president is wearing a full face to make up yet they talk about gender-affirming care. Like it's a big, weird government. AOC said this once. Could the villains be a little cooler? I know. These guys are just such insufferable dorks but they've moved on to a new villain and it's the liberal white woman. That's us. That is us. Yes. So these pussies. That's no so true. It's an espagnol. So now they've moved on. Ted Cruz went after me. I text this to you the other day. Pop this up. Ted Cruz says God save us from liberal white women. I don't know this Jennifer Welch character but she seems to be filled with pure boiling hate. So radical. So extreme that she views the rest of America as her enemies. And they go after you quite a bit too. Do they? Yeah. I think they do. I've had some dust-ups with those men and that gives me a lot of pleasure. It's really. It really does. It's just like another feather in my cap. You know what I mean? And it emboldens me because I we represent everything. Even me more so because I have no children and and I'm independent and I have money and I don't have a husband like I'm a witch. You know. Yeah. So I feel like we are in this. I don't know how long this period of time is going to last because I do feel like it's the death cough of white male patriarchy but I felt this for some quite some time. And I don't know if that's a 500 year period of time or a 50 year period of time. But the way that men are behaving and reacting to strong women makes it clear that they are very afraid and they are very scared. What we could use is a lot more people standing up on behalf of you know the types of women, especially that I am child-free and husband-free and in celebration. Instead of degradation. People that aren't you know I know a lot of people think they're allies but my issue in this day and and where we are is that not enough people were outspoken enough. Not enough. There was no men's march about Roe v Wade. There was a women's march. You know like men could could do more for us and stand up more for not only us but for every other marginalized community that's under attack under this administration. It's not just enough to say it. You have to act it and you have to do it. And so that's disappointing. But now we're look at where we are because of that behavior and in action that lethargy. You know it's kind of put us in this situation where we're dealing with you know a president who shits his pants who started a war that he can't end with election stealing and nobody's even denying it. You know the biggest I just can't wait for because some of them are going to go down. Some of them are. I don't think Trump will pay the price. He'll hopefully be dead you know at some point soon. But but like Mike Johnson you know the response of I haven't heard that yet. I haven't seen that yet. That bullshit makes me crazy almost crazier than the outright lying. You know the denialism that makes me crazy to not have to address the thing that you don't want to address because you're trying to push this law through. So I sorry I went a little off course from Ted Cruz. But he tends to do that with people. But Ted Cruz is on he's on he's on he's so repugnant. You know I they're also I mean Mitch McCutley have a dead man. There's a man is a dead person. Yep. That is an acting senator. Speaking of dead people. Well lady Graham. Catherine Graham. No Lindsey. Oh Lindsey Graham. Like from the Washington post. What a pivot. No like Lady Graham. Lady Graham. They had no children. Never married. I think we all know why. Right. And then you no children never married and they go fucking bananas about you. Never about the late lady Graham who sex workers are coming out of the woodworking woodwork saying Lady Graham were were red panties and invited all these sex workers and they're on the record now. This is what he was doing. But here is Megan Kelly applying a standard to you that she never applied to lady Graham play the clip. Watching clips about marriage is patriarchal. It's much more fun to just hook up with guys all the way into your menopause years as she is now 51 and it has I guess absolutely no desire to have a deep meaningful connection with another human who's her partner in life and potentially father to a children. Wow. Yeah. She's mad. She told me. Wow. I have a lot of deep meaningful a penetration and deep meaningful connections with lots of people that aren't men. And that would be I would love to know who her little circle of girlfriends are. You know, or I would love to know what kind of deep meaningful connection she's ever had with anything other than you know, like being a talking head for the very group of people that are trying to destroy your freedom of choice and your ability to even be on a show like that. Yeah. Is wild. It's just wild to see these women standing by his side, especially that little pipsqueak. You know that that's down traveling around the bunny boiler. Yeah. The bunny boiler. Exactly. I have the little girl who gives him the good news all day. Yeah. I want someone to give him like even with the questions of the reporters. First of all, let me just wrap this up. This Megan Kelly thing. I had never heard that and I'm glad you showed it to me because I'd love to hear things about myself. But I they matter to me as much as they matter to you. Nobody, anything negative that is said about me, only matters if I believe it's true. Right. So I know what's up. And when they use women like me who are so representative of so many women, you know what I mean? We're living in a time where so many women are like, we don't, maybe we don't have to get married or maybe we don't have to have a kid. Like we actually let's just, it's a fucking pain in the ass. We're raising a kid and robbing me of 20 years, you know, if you really want one, of course, go get one. But, but, but if you don't, don't think you have to do it. Like, and everyone who's married, and I know you know this, like everyone who's married that gets divorced is like, I will never, if I, or if I get divorced, I will never fucking bother with that again. Right. I get so much more joy out of not being in a relationship that I've ever had from any of my loves. It's just too much for me. That's not where I shine. But don't you think the story to this is that there's something that you have in common with a Zoraan Mamdani or an Abdul Al Sayet or a Chelsea handler? And what it is is you're the antidote to their propaganda. So their prep propaganda is that women are not happy or purposeful or useful unless they're in service of a man and they need us. And then here's Chelsea handler. Does it need a man? Makes a shit ton and money, works your ass off.
for sports, enjoys herself, and it's like, oh shit, we can't get that information out there, Zora and Mom Donnie. They want you to, everyone to believe that he and Abdelal say that are Muslim jihadist terrorists, because the propaganda that Israel uses is that they're the good guys, and anybody that is a Muslim is this horrible, awful person, and they're the antidote to that. And that's why there's so much of a reaction to people that are the antidote to this establishment patriarchal Judeo, Christian, bullshit propaganda. - Yeah, and look what it's led to. Look what we are in this world, with the convergence of what's happening in the climate. Okay, we have one of the only political parties in the world next to Syria, which was that believes, that denies climate change. We have only people in the world. North Korea believes in climate change. And between that, the convergence of that AI, right, no guardrails on what's probably gonna be, or could likely be the end of the world, and it's seemingly so, by every smart person I respect, is scared to death now of how out of the bag the cat has gotten, like it's COVID basically, it's out. Like we can't put it back in the box yet, or ever maybe, and the convergence of all of those three, like that's where we are based on white male patriarchy. That's what has led us to capitalism being such a boon and turning into an oligarchy for, you know, the, I don't know, 40 richest men in the world, or probably more than that, but it's weird when you meet a billionaire, you start to meet the model, you know, they start to like, I've met a couple of billionaires, a few years ago, and then I started meeting more and more and more and I was like, well, I'm running in the wrong circles. Like this is not my group, you know? I need to keep my fucking feet on the ground. - You a billionaire magnet? - No, I don't want to be. I don't want to be, I don't want to be a billionaire magnet because I see what that is, but back to the, what they are espousing is what got us in this mess in the first place, things are completely out of control and off the rails because of this system. - Yeah. - So like that, we tried it. You guys, this system doesn't work. Are you happy about AI? Are you happy about climate change? Are you happy about all of this? Not having healthcare? Only men could design a system like that. So everything that Megan Kelly talks about, she like her, you know, nothing else lands because she's so misguided. And what she stands for is so detrimental, not only to the world and our country will enter the world now, but to her. - Exactly. - It's crazy. - Let me say, this is one of my favorite things, women that carry the water for the patriarchy or the first to drown. And so you have all of these women that are propping up Trump in this fascist takeover. And they've ridden the shoulders of all of the brave feminists and women's rights activists that fought the way for us to have a credit card, for you to be, you know, some slutty, independent, unmarried woman and proud of it by God in everybody embracing that. They ride the shoulders of that movement. And then they stand there with that privilege and then beat down the very movement that got them the microphone that they have. - And it's called a Clarence Thomas. You get in, you get in through all the programs that are here to benefit black people and then you shut the door on your way in. - Here, I want to play you a clip from Katie Miller's podcast, which I also referred to as Fireside Chats with Nazis. And of course, you know, she is the wife of unfuckable Stephen Miller, who we've decided on this podcast is more unfuckable than Ted Cruz. - Well, what about Lindsey Graham alive? Ted Cruz or Stephen Miller? Which one is unfuckable? - Most unfuckable? You gotta go Stephen Miller. Okay, let me, I'm gonna try and get you to choose Stephen Miller. Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, well, I guess that would be easy to do. Okay, Elon Musk is not an easy person to have sex with. Elon Musk, Stephen Miller or Hitler, if he were still alive. - God damn it, that is diabolical. Well, you have to think about it. - Which one is the most unfuckable? Which one would I fac? - If you want to come to Tampa, you need to answer this question. (laughing) - I mean, which one? - Would I fac? - I mean, it's hard to know Hitler now. - I'm gonna take Elon. - Oh, interesting. - Out of those three. - Yeah, I guess that is the right choice. - Yeah. - Elon. - I think I would do Elon. - Okay. - But here is Katie Miller. - Let's get back to you. - David Braun. (laughing) - Can't believe someone married now. - It's a true journal pointed out that now women are number men in the workforce. And so, before we get to-- - Which I think is terrible, by the way. - It's insane. - Yeah, of course. I mean, a lot of Republicans like to talk about how great it is that the female unemployment rate is the lowest ever. This is one area where I break with my fellow Republicans. I say, why is that necessarily a good thing? I mean, maybe for some women, but the fact that women like have to go to the widget factory to do spreadsheets, I don't know. She is sitting there talking about women not having jobs at her job. - I know. - At her job promoting for women to not have a job, at her job. - I know. - I know. - This is like me saying, nobody do podcasts anymore. Podcasts need to be outlawed. They need to be illegal. - Exactly. - And I need to boycott, stand up comedy. (laughing) - I mean, I don't know how what happened. I don't, you just wanna know, I mean, I kinda do wanna know, and then I kinda don't wanna know what happens in their homes. Like, what the conversations are? Like, they're hatred. I mean, also JD Vance's wife, you know? Like, what is she, how can you sit there with a man that speaks about all of these things, and then you're married to him? Like, it gets worse for Usha. Her husband, the little smoky-eyed sociopath, a misprissed pants. He refused to condemn a Nazi racist group chat. She's an Indian woman. Their children are mixed race. These MAGA men are so castrated. They cannot defend their wives. Ted Cruz, famously, Donald Trump called Heidi Cruz Ugly, three months later, Ted Cruz, God bless Donald Trump. I mean, there's just no principle, no integrity. I know agency. None. They have no agency. That's a very good point. So that, you know, like, how could you ever be with a man that allowed your somewhat, like, how could, I've thought about Ted Cruz's wife so many times after that. More so than these other two losers' wives, because how could you, like, you have children together. You let your, the father of your children cozy up to the man who spoke to you that way. Like, talk about being married to a snake, you know? I mean, and he's rudderless. He's so gross, Ted Cruz. Like, he's not even a snake, because a snake can bite. He does a deep brother fact, Ted, or Stephen Ted. Oh, that's a good one. Ted or Stephen or Elon, well, you already chose Elon. You obviously have a crush on him, Ted or Elon. No, Ted. Stephen or Elon, or Stephen or Ted. Yeah, Stephen or Ted. Stephen, I feel like I could physically take. Do you know what I mean? I feel like I could probably beat him up. I'm pretty strong. Yeah. And he seems pretty weak. Otherwise, he wouldn't be acting this way. So Ted Cruz is unforgivable physically to me. I just, that face that everything about him is repulsive and repugnant. Stephen Miller, the same thing, but he's like a little boy. Something happened to him. Something bad happened to him, for him to be acting this way. And there's a chance that I could take him physically and possibly end his life. And injure him sexually. In a sexual situation. In a sexual scenario. Yeah. OK, so this regime, they go after comedians first. And this is, this is nothing unique or new about autocrats or their authoritarians, the very first people they target are comedians. Because they're thin-skinned, neutered, submissive, fragile ego. And so they have been going after Jimmy Kimmel. And now they're going after people in Hollywood. Like Mark Ruffalo. And Mark Ruffalo has been speaking out passionately. He's been on this podcast about the paramount warning. We have big stars on this podcast. OK, I believe you, I believe you. So he, Mark Ruffalo has been speaking out about this paramount Warner Brothers merger. And he truthfully linked David Ellison to Larry and David Ellison to giving the IDF money. And he stated that his fact that Ellison family has funded the genocide. And they funded the IDF during the act of genocide. And now there's been this big backlash, Mark Ruffalo, because he's speaking out. And they've called him an anti-Semite. Let's pop this up. So over 170 Jewish entertainment figures have signed an open letter defending Mark Ruffalo after paramount accused him of feeling anti-Semitic tropes. Ruffalo spoke out against the paramount Warner Brothers merger and said the Ellison family was complicit in the genocide against Palestinians. And I think all of us, in a very rapid time-- and over a course of since Kamala-- for me personally, since Kamala's defeat. My opinions and my knowledge about this changed really rapidly in real time. And I evolved dramatically. And so I'm curious if your personal stance on this issue, which seems to be really big in every political.
race we have has evolved as so many other Americans has on the Israel issue. We're just going to switch it to talk about something light, Chelsea. Yeah, yeah, of course, of course, of course, it has evolved. It has evolved. My position on Netanyahu has absolutely, I mean, I never thought Netanyahu was a great guy anyway when he stole, you know, his basic, you know, he was about to go to jail and then cozyed up to this right wing coalition in the Kineset and luckily there's going to be not another election by October 27th, they have to call an election to Israel. But also most, and so my evolution, yes, I think Netanyahu is a more criminal. Yes, what is transpired is absolutely disgusting. This is unacceptable. It's not retaliatory. This is, we've taken it to a new level. They want to pulverize Gaza. They have pulverized Gaza. What's happening there is absolutely a human rights issue. This is not, you know, this is about him resting power. I believe that. I believe that Netanyahu is should, and a lot of Israelis believe that. And so I think, you know, everyone has weaponized the idea of Zionism, meaning that your anti is most Jews, I know, and listen, there are a lot of exceptions because there's a lot of Jews that are very, you know, the Jews that hate Mamdani, even though he's done lots of wonderful things, you know, there's Jews that hate every all of these people because they said they've criticized Israel. I don't conflate a criticism with Israel as being anti-Semitic, but I can't also deny that there is a ton of anti-Semitism. There is. And there always has been. Yeah. But Netanyahu is not fucking helping that, you know, he's the problem. He's the reason anti-Semitism has risen because of his response to this. And because of his, you know, lack of ability to take a look at how does this affect Jews worldwide? How does his attack and retaliation, in quotes, affected Jews worldwide? And it's not positive. So I am sympathetic to people who, you know, want to get rid of him. I definitely want him out. He's worse than Trump because he's smarter than Trump, you know? But do I, I'm not an anti, I'm not anti-Israel either, I'm anti the government of Israel. This government sucks and they're terrible and it's a, and he's a war criminal. And you think, this is something that's been really weird for me because where I grew up in Oklahoma. And I don't think, I just, also, sorry. Did you just say it? I just also, Mark Ruffalo is not an anti-Semite. I don't believe that either. I don't believe, like when this happened, I had a big, I was in a part of a big Jewish groups that were sending me all this stuff, this propaganda, this Hamas propaganda, which they have a propaganda machine too. Israel also has a propaganda machine. He's got a propaganda machine. Go online, you know what I mean? But everyone was sending me all this stuff of like foreshadowing what was going to happen and how people were going to start speaking about Israel and this is what's going to happen next and it was kind of accurate, it's kind of what happens exactly. But I don't think Mark Ruffalo is anti-Semitic. I think he's standing up for something that he believes in and I admire that. I don't, all of a sudden, think, you know, like a Hannah Einbinder is an anti-Semite and I think that's a really narrow way to look at things. So I just wanted to say that, that, you know, I support him. Yeah, I need to, I think it's, from my vantage point, if you grow up in New York or LA or you live in New York or LA, there's a lot more Jewish people in those cities and you're a lot more fully versed on it, where I came from in the middle of the country. There's in Oklahoma City, teeny, tiny, small Jewish community, nobody really knows where Palestine is, or the West Bank, or Israel, I mean, it really gives a shit. Our governments are trying to take away healthcare and abortion rights, et cetera. As I look at this whole issue, it's fascinating to me because you can criticize any government anytime, anywhere. Like I criticize the United States of America, I criticize this government and I want everybody else to criticize that because it's objectively bad. There's no backlash of that to somehow me being attached with that criticism, with some form of bigotry, it's just, you know, it's speech, it's free speech and saying, I criticize this, this, this, this, the same if you criticize France or Russia or North Korea or any of them. But when you get to Israel, criticizing them is a minefield and sometimes I'm like, "God, there's another story about this and I don't want to step into it because I know there's a bunch of people who would be like you're an anti-Semite Jennifer and there's a bunch of people that are going to be this way." And then, you know, like you said, Jews are not a monolith. There's a lot of people in New York that I know that are completely, you know, I would say anti-Zionist Jews that, and they very much love their Judaism, they love their identity, they're completely different and then they get called self-hating Jews. I feel like this topic is such a minefield. It is. It's like it's just not, it's an unwinnable conversation, not that you have to win conversations, it's not about that, but they've weaponized the word Zionist, that it used to mean that you believed Israel had a right to exist. And now it means that you believe in genocide or you support genocide. That's not what a Zionist used to mean. That is a new definition of a Zionist that, and, and, and I know people in Israel that hate Netanyahu, they hate the way this is going, they hate what he's done to Gaza. I've been there, I've been to Ramallah, I've been to the West Bank, I've been to these places, I interviewed Shimon Perez years ago for my, one of my Netflix documentaries, and I saw it in real life, like that they're living behind a fence. I went and met with the mayor of Ramallah at the time, this woman, and she was, it was awful when I saw it. I was like, how is this working? What are these chain link fences, like, and the idea of patrolling both sides? And, you know, you're fed a lot of stuff as a Jewish person, which many Jews have spoken about. And what I hate the most, or one of the things that I find, so disturbing is the argument of when we talk about anti-Semitism, which is a huge issue, people want to say, well, they don't care about what's happening in Darfur, they don't care about Sudan, there's genocides happening there, look over there, why isn't anybody saying anything about that? As if that's a valid argument to what's happening with Israel and Gaza, that's the anti-Semitism, that's one of the anti-Semitism arguments, they only care when it's Jews, they only care when it's Jews defending themselves. So when you talk about this issue, it's so complex in so many ugly areas, and in so many ugly ways, instead of a unification, like, most Jews, I know, want a two-state solution, that's what most Jews I know want, and that seems like a reasonable solution that will never happen now. And so I get, if I had my algorithm, a lot of stuff about Palestinian suffering. And you always, you know, whatever the post is, I always see Chelsea Handler likes this. You seem very, at least, online, very compassionate, that's weird, because I blocked you, I don't know why you would be showing up, it's my, it's my fenced-ah. I think my fenced-ah, my fake, this is right after her husband left the room, but she reveals she has a fenced-ah. But I see you very, because I know you privately offline too, and you're such a compassionate person, and you care so deeply about human rights. And that's what I love so much about you, hilarious and hot and all that stuff, thank you. But underneath, you really care passionately about human rights, and I know that, you know, this is such a minefield to walk through, but we all still talk about it from a position of relative safety. I mean, we're still living this fascist regime, but we're white women in America and wealthy and et cetera. And when I think about the suffering going on over there, and these little kids, and how they were targeted, and then a recent story came out that Benjamin Netanyahu knew, this is confirmed, this came out from Hertz, the Israeli paper, that they told him they're going to attack, and he did nothing. He allowed October 7 to happen, and it just continues to go from bad to worse. And I think the reason that people care more about this issue is because they're taxed dollars for it, and not Darfur. And then you have a politician like the late lady Graham who served Israel more than he did, the people of South Carolina. And as a person that came from middle America, the hyper fixation on helping Israel, I mean, if you live in Oklahoma City, you live in some sort of, you're like, okay, what about us? We got a lot of shit going on here, infrastructure, schools closing hospitals, blah, blah, blah. And so I can see how, when you know historically about anti-symmetism and how targeted and marginalized Jewish people have been, the need to feel protective, but as I look at it, and I didn't really know that much about it. Yeah I grew up I remember being in like he was
school and you would learn about, you know, the way it was framed in a childlike way. And as I grew up and learned more about it, Israel is the democracy of the Middle East. It's the only democracy. It's this little piece of land and everyone else around it hates it. And everyone's going to attack it and there's always, and they historically, that is what has happened. And that it's our last line of defense against that whole region of people who are not like my did, who are not, who don't have democratic values. But what's happening today isn't representative of the democracy or democratic values. And obviously, maybe that word has expired, has expired because we're in a quote unquote democracy also here, and that seems to have expired as well. But like you said, you and I, you know, I do care deeply about human rights. I care about human suffering. It's sickening. It's absolutely sickening. And also you and I, I mean, I won't speak for you, but my life hasn't been impacted directly by any of these policies about President Trump or Netanyahu, other than watching this horror show, you know, on both sides. I think Israel, what's happening in Gaza is a horror show. I think what's happening in America is a horror show, two different things, right? But, but to not pay attention or to not have it impacted to be so out of touch, I believe that it is mandatory to remain going to the airport, no matter how rich you get to keep your fucking feet on the ground. I believe that these, all these billionaires who lose sight of what, what is happening, you know, what, what, what, what, what real people are dealing with, what real people are dealing with when they go to a gas station or they go to a grocery store or they can't fucking get health care or they can't have access to a safe abortion when the mother's life is at risk or any of a million other examples that I could sit here and give you, it does affect me. It impacts me even though it's not my personal life. So I'm taking a long road to say this, but those, those, those people who have a lot of money that don't care about how it's impacting others and are building their bunkers in New Zealand and are saying, you know, things like, you know, who don't have a strong opinion about what's happening or are able to look away in the face of human suffering makes me irate because it is our responsibility when you are gifted with a great life and you make a lot of money and you have an influence or you have a platform, I should say, you, you do need to be informed and you do have to get your fucking ducks in a row because otherwise you're not even participating in society. You're not participating. You're in a silo that you've created that could be, you know, you know, like, and then you become one of these people that doesn't have any, you can't relate to human suffering because it doesn't impact you and you or I could easily just go off and do that. I mean, you've made your living being political so it would be weird for you. I could easily just like, I don't want to talk about politics anymore. I'm not doing it, you know, it would be easier for me, you know, that would be nice. Right. But that's also spineless. And so it is important to have these conversations and they are very, you know, people are, it's such an ugly issue, the Israel issue, our political situation, but I'm glad we're talking about it. I am too, because I think about it a lot and I think about how people that stick their neck out and talk about it, get, you know, a meeting, like right now, the comment section will be going crazy on YouTube and who gives a fact. But I've come up with a lot of like things that I, after reading about this that I think helped me understand this more. And when you have a government that the United States and Israel both say, we are bright shining examples of democracy, but you have policies where you quantify humanness. These humans are more important than these humans in these humans. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's disgusting. It breaks you. And then when you have politicians, whether they be Republican or Democratic, that take money for that end game, to quantify humanness, to say these, these babies are not as important because they're Palestinians. Yes. It breaks the whole system. And so once you are dismissive of one group's humanity in this, in this regard, let's say Palestinians, but we can take it to America and talk about black people are very dismissive about the humanity of black people over policing of their neighborhoods, et cetera. Everything after that, all of the fuckery and the immoral shit after that. It's like, yeah, it's a slippery so, you know, it's like a gateway to the harder hits. And so I think America's crime has never been reconciling our issue with the genocide black people in this country, initially, through slavery. And then we have basically a two-tier court system. We have, there's still a lot of segregation, so much institutionalized racism still in this country. And Israel's, you know, original sin is you can't create a safe space and then kick everybody out of their homeland and expect to be safe forever. You know, I mean, just I think that there's, there has to be a bigger calling on all of us to call beyond whether somebody's Jewish, Palestinian, there has to be a humanness. And that's why I like a lot of these, some of these DSA candidates that are popping up all over the US right now, because they have this message of universal human rights that so important to me, like whether they're trans, if somebody's trans, somebody's Palestinian, somebody's Jewish, somebody's black, whatever, we all have to have the same value. And I think the sin of both of those governments, Israel and the United States is, they don't value universal human rights. Yeah. They say they do, but their policies don't. When people are so anti-democratic socialism, it's like, we'll look where capitalism has brought us. Right. Where, look where we are. Right. This is capitalism gone wrong. Yeah. Now we're going to get killed by robots because there's eight fucking losers that couldn't get paid. That's capitalism. Exactly. While I understand, I mean, I have so many people in my life, and it's mostly wealthy people that are anti-socialism for obvious reasons, I already share my money with the government. I want my money to be going towards good things, but I'm happy to share. I'm happy to share with everybody to live in a more peaceful world where people are treated equally. Absolutely. So I'm not anti-socialism in the way or democratic socialism, I should say, in the way that many people are. I know you're very into, I know you're into it and you're positive about it. I'm, I'm, I'm DSA curious. Yeah. I'm DSA curious as well. Yes. As well. Yeah. I'm not, I'm not a stalwart on anything besides human rights. Like, stop it. I have to tell you a story. You're going to appreciate this. Tell me. Okay. So I have a black woman who opens for me on the road. Her name is Yamanika, and she was at an airport. It was a smaller town, a city, I don't know. I don't remember where exactly, but in the middle of the country somewhere. And we, she got off, we got off to go get our bags at the luggage carousel off of our flight. And I went to the bathroom while she waited for our bags. And a white woman went up to her and said, what are you doing here? And where did you come from? What city did you fly in from? And she looked at her and said, what? What? Don't, what do you, like don't even talk to you? And this was happening to us in the bathroom. And I know, because I called her, she was like, which bag is yours, which bag is yours? Because she was getting my bag for me. And the woman just just, okay, but and said, where are you coming from? What city did you come from? And the woman and my friend was like, fuck, fuck off. I'm at, I just got off this flight and she didn't respond to her at all, because she's used to this. And I wasn't there in that moment, because I would have loved to respond to that. But can you imagine, like when, when, when people aren't exposed to that, can you imagine being somebody that is at an airport collecting your luggage, confronting a black person about where they flew in from and making sure that they're getting their luggage? Like, it's so preposterous when you're up close and personal to that kind of Karen behavior. By the way, I got to play a Karen in a movie yesterday. I did a day roll on a movie and I got to let my Karen freak flag fly from on behalf of black people to show how fucking crazy white women can be. Hopefully it will be viewed that way, because that's exactly what it was. But just the, like that level, like you really have to see it to believe it. And I've done documentaries about racism or privilege before for Netflix. And when you're talking to a lot of these white women, they really don't believe in racism because they don't see any of it. They're not exposed to it. It's like being in Oklahoma, when if you live in a suburb that doesn't have any black people, they don't believe it because they can't see it. And it's like, it's not like white people are going around looking for racism. It's like, where can I see it? Where is it happening? So to that story, particularly, it's like, how could you ever, I wouldn't even go up to anyone and say that. The America is still, especially in a lot of these red states, still pretty segregated. Yeah. Very, you know, for a red state, it's very, very integrated and great. But in Oklahoma, there's still so much segregation, and I've just witnessed this kind of shit. So many times, my whole entire life that surprises me and zero. Okay. So then what tipped you off to?
What made you understand how wrong that was? - My parents were super progressive. And just immediately as you start forming your world outside of the world that you grew up in, like this shit's just racist. These people are just straight up racist. And I waited tables all through college. And then my awareness of that got worse as my son played basketball, AAU basketball. And he played on like an inner city team. All black kids with a couple of white kids, my son being one of the white ones. But I just started seeing, like, God, they're so, they just think they're so much better. And they were so demeaning, like demeaning to other kids on bad, but just really grotesque racism and just really grotesque stuff. And then Trump, it's hard for me to even talk about because I know these people, I've been around these people. And then Trump became a president. They feel like they can dunk on it now. They feel that much more emboldened by it. They feel so vindicated in the racism. It's just so, it's an embarrassing group to be a part of. - Yeah. And I didn't, I mean, these are circles when you're raising kids that you're around that you just know and Oklahoma City, I know that 50% of you in that city are the most beautiful blue dots in a red state, but you're listening to what I'm hearing right now. It's so frustrating being a liberal and a progressive around a bunch of white mega racists. And that's why I think my listeners that look like, oh, I know exactly what she's talking about. I know these people. You start knowing how they think and how they're gonna, right? - Right, right, right, right, right. - She just fucking been around it. You've been in this fucking maga, I'm casting too much. You've been in this maga incubator. And you know like, oh, this is the way they're gonna think. This is what's gonna happen. - Yeah, it's pretty unsavory. And again, it goes back to the kind of the death cough of white male patriarchy, right? 'Cause we're grouped in, women are grouped in, with black people, and black people are grouped in, with gay people, and gay, and we're all overlapping and one big, then diagram of underlings, like we're all under in various forms. You know, it's not like white women have the same experience as a black woman. That's not fair to say at all. So, but it's also a part of that. It's like, it just feels like the air is leaving the balloon, so to speak, you know, the diaper is crashing. 'Cause these policies aren't popular, they're not working, they're pretending they're working, but they're not popular. Nobody likes ice, nobody likes watching that, except for Stephen Miller, you know. Nobody wants to see families ripped apart or parents that are working here, that have been here for 20 years that have jobs and are picking up their kids from school to see them dragged off by a bunch of thugs who don't even have any experience working in any sort of, you know, they're, have them are, you know, probably January 6th or so. And just, it's just, none of it's popular. None of it is right and none of it is modern. You know, they're taking us back. We've never had this country that we're talking about. You know, America is an ideal, right? It's an experiment. And hopefully that experiment isn't over so we can reach an ideal beyond the one we're living in because I can't look at this in a short view and because then I just get so wrapped up and so angry and I rate and I'm like, well, it's all gonna, we're all dying anyway, which is pretty much how I think most of the day. I might as well have a good time and have another drink because we're all gonna, it's all gonna fucking go to shit. But, but I like to think of it, you know, like Jennifer Cox Richardson talks about it, you know, with a longer lens and to just be like, okay, this is a period of time that is very, very difficult for a lot of people and it's really ugly and this is not the end of our story. This is part of our story, part of our ugly story. - Yeah, and I think that I always try to remind my listeners and I know you and I've texted about this, about the midterms and how important the midterms are and a lot that's going on right now with like issues we talk about, you know, hand-winging in the democratic party about people supporting this, is taking super PAC money, et cetera. I think those conversations are healthy. I think they're necessary. I think they're a symptom of a good democracy right now in the 50 days leading up to the midterms. I just keep encouraging my listeners. Number one, make sure you're registered. Number two, have a plan to vote in person. If you know old people, people that look like their immigrants, sound like their immigrants, go vote with them because we have to, the turnout has to be too big direct. Our number one unifying cause right now has to be defeat fascism. We can get precious in detail later over other things. And primary candidates that didn't deliver for us, but we have to be unified in defeating these people because MAGA is a death cult. All of their policies lead to death. - Yeah, I mean, these guys, all these, like, talk about death. These guys, these tech guys, Elon Musk's, The Peter Thiel, Sam Altman, these guys, the way they talk about, they know that AI will ruin the world or most likely has the ability to do so. And they're okay with that. They know, I should most nefarious. They want horrible, like it's the biggest group of evil. It's so, everything is evil. Take away healthcare, take away women's rights, take away, get rid of black people, get rid of immigrants to poor people in chains, make sure they're dying in these concentration camps that we're living in. Like, I keep waiting. I'm like, are we gonna all just go on strike? And I can't say something like that cause people are like, well, it's easy for you to go on strike. But I'm like, are we gonna have a national? Aren't we just gonna say, like, the midterms are one thing but why aren't we all in the fucking streets? Why aren't we in the streets until this is over? And you know, I know people can't leave their jobs and they can't take a day off and they don't have that ability. But I can't believe that we're even waiting for the midterms to make that kind of statement. You know, I can't believe people are just allowing people to go live in detention centers. 70% of people in detention centers have no criminal record. We have a private, like a private prison system where the more people you put into these prisons, the more money these guys make. They're all connected, like, how do, you know, and we're just going to work. And innocent people are in what? I mean, I just can't believe we're letting this happen. - No, I think that we all, I think you just really put into perfect words what we all think all the time. Like, shouldn't we be doing more? And the problem is, so many people capitulated early to this guy and it changed the trajectory completely. And from one point, you're absolutely right. - The leads didn't go kiss ass. The corporations kind of held the line and they were part of the resistance. But elections have a tricky way of reconciling things. And for me personally, and for all of our listeners here, the message that I went sent with the midterms is not just to hurt Trump's ego personally and narcissistically injure him, which I very much enjoy. It is also to send a message to all of the tech titans and industry leaders who bent the knee against their country and against their customer base. And bent the knee to a guy who is incompetent, not smart. Trump doesn't give a fuck about America. He doesn't give a fuck about his supporters. And the corrupt Supreme Court, because I think that we need to get as many Democrats in there as possible because we cannot go back. We cannot go back to Joe Biden's America. - No, no, no, no. - Just gonna change the-- - Just gonna change the-- - Incubated this. - Right, right. - We need oversight in the Supreme Court. We need politicians that are not taking PAC money. We need to get rid of PAC money. We have to get rid of citizens united. We have to get, you know, everything's a pendulum, right? We got Trump theoretically because we got Obama. We got Roe v Wade because we had the Me Too movement, you know, in my opinion. I mean, like everything is a pendulum and everything is a referendum. Like then guess what? Guess what's coming, people. You know, get ready because we are gonna take fucking money out of politics. We are, it's just gut. I mean, remember when there were a couple billionaires? Now we have a trillionaire every other week. It depends, you know, what the stock price is. But like, remember when billionaire was a big deal, the amount of money, that is certainly-- - You lead? - Like, it just keeps getting-- - I remember when I was younger. - I remember a millionaire was a huge fucking deal. - Yes, a millionaire. - What would you do? - That's what I meant. - That's not a billionaire, a millionaire, thank you. Thank you for correction. But yes, yes, it's fucking nuts. - Give us some hope, Ian. - Wait, I'm on a comedy tour. - Yes, tell us. - In this light, to wrap this very light conversation up, I'm on the high and mighty tour. I'm about to film my next special at the end of this tour. I'm filming in Vancouver, but I'm gonna be in New York. I'm gonna be on September 25th. I don't know when this is coming out. But you can go to ChelseaHandler.com. There's lots of cities I'm coming to. I'm coming to lots of different red cities also. Places like Philadelphia, well, that's not a red city, but I'm kind of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Spokane, lots of different places. So you get your tickets to that. And my whole thesis and the reason I am enjoying this tour in the way that I am is because it is an antidote to dealing with what is happening. And not only for my audience, for me, because it is a reminder about humanity. It is a reminder when I stand on stage and I look out.
see two strangers that have never met that are laughing next to each other and rubbing shoulders and it is a reminder of the joyfulness and that that that that there still is like people are giving up and they are losing hope and I just not ready to do that. I am not going to be hopeless, I'm going to be hopeful and my hope with every time I do a show is to infuse every single person there with the hopefulness that I feel and the humanity that I feel and joyous laughter and microdose. That's not pie and mighty, so Chelsea, thank you so much. Oh, yes, see you. I'm so happy you're doing all this stuff. I'm going to go look at an apartment together, me and her husband right now. That's true. We are. All right, bye. Imagine setting your makeup then forgetting it's even theirs. Jeldermist technology locks in your look for up to 24 hours with flexible all-day comfy grip. Summary:
Chelsea Handler reflects on her evolving views regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, describing Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza as criminal and a violation of human rights. She criticizes the politicization of anti-Semitism, noting that critics of Israel face disproportionate backlash while global genocides—like those in Sudan or Darfur—are ignored. S.
and Israeli governments fail to uphold them through policies that devalue certain lives.
