Welcome back to Silicon Bites. This is Trump's real plan. Suck weapons out of Europe leaving it vulnerable to Russia. If you were Vladimir Putin, and you could design the ideal American foreign policy, but design it in the Kremlin, not overtly, pro-Russian, but functionally pro-Russian, what would it look like? If Trump were a Russian asset, what would he be doing differently than he is already doing? Very little, I'd wager. He would start multiple wars that drain American weapons stockpiles and wreck their reputation internationally, both among allies and adversaries. He would burn through patriot interceptors, the one system that both Ukraine and NATO's eastern flank depend on, to survive. He would delay weapons deliveries to the Baltic States and Scandinavia, and withhold training to the Baltics as well, the countries that border Russia. He would pressure European allies to send their own air defenses to the Middle East and maritime military resources to the Straits of Hormuz, leaving the continent exposed. He would halt new military aid to Ukraine. He would lift sanctions on Russian oil. He would threaten to leave NATO and eject other members from the alliance. He would invite Putin to a summit as a luxury resort and try to normalize Russia's genocidal regime on the world stage. He would punish any allies that refuse to cooperate and stir up conflict around the world between allies and adversaries. He would do all of this while calling NATO useless, suggesting that the US would not come to the defence of allies, rendering that alliance effectively redundant, and labeling European allies as cowards. After all this, confused and distracted, depleted and disoriented, Europe would be rendered incapable of defending itself when Russia does finally choose to strike. Well, buckle up, because Trump is doing all of these things, and more. The above points describe America's actual foreign policy under Donald Trump in 25, and 26, in fact, with excluded so much, that is just as bad as the above and some that is worse. They are essentially the same policy. The policy that even Kremlin planners would scarcely have expected to come to fruition in their wildest dreams. Well, let's talk about the weapons drain. Let's start with the hardware. On April 17th, Reuters reported confirmed by military times, give post I-24 news and error time, that the Trump administration has informed multiple European countries that previously contracted weapons deliveries will be delayed due to the Iran war. The countries affected include nations in the Baltic region and Scandinavia. The specific countries were not named because some share a border with Russia, making the delays sensitive defense information. Strange how that information has got out anyway. The countries most vulnerable to Russian aggression are the ones losing their weapons deliveries. A complete coincidence, of course. And the reason they can't be named is precisely because naming them would tell Moscow which parts of NATO's eastern flank are now under armed. Well, I think we can assume that Moscow already knows whether indirectly or directly from sources within the Trump administration. The delayed items include various types of ammunition, including munitions used for both offensive and defensive purposes. They were purchased by European countries under the Foreign Military Sales Program. Europe paid for them, America is keeping them. But the most critical drain is in air defense. Since the Iran campaign began on February 28th, Tehran has fired hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at Gulf states. The US has expended large quantities of PAC-3 Patriot interceptors, the same system that Ukraine relies on to defend its cities partly and NATO's eastern members need to deter Russia. The European Union Institute for Security Studies published a comprehensive assessment in March, warning that the damage is structural, not tempering. Switzerland learned that its order of five Patriot systems would face a five-year delay. Five years. Burn froze payments and its new Air Force commander publicly stated the country cannot defend itself against modern air threats. Switzerland is now evaluating European-made alternatives. The EU on a SS analysis went further, replacing the more than 850 Tom Hawk missiles fired at Iran would take approximately ten years at the current production rate of 85 per year. The US will prioritize replenishing its own arsenals for home defense and Indo-Pacific, deterrents over European allies and Ukraine, or so much for China being the main threat, the main adversary, the peer competitor. The US has just depleted its arsenal on a completely irrelevant and illegal war. And Bloomberg reported on March 31st that the US-suggested Poland consider sending one of its own Patriot batteries to the Middle East, Poland refused. But the request itself tells you everything Washington is not merely withholding weapons from Europe, it is actively trying to pull existing European air defense systems out of the continent and into the Middle East. The aid that vanished now onto Ukraine since Trump took office, the new US funding for Ukraine has dropped to zero dollars. As PBS NewsHour, the House of Commons Library and Kyiv Post have all documented, the United States went from being Ukraine's largest military supporter in, say, 2023, nearly 175 billion dollars since 2022 to providing nothing from the US budget. In July 2025, the Pentagon paused military aid to Ukraine, including Patriot missiles, precision-guided weapons and artillery, while conducting what it calls a "capability review". CSIS reported that the pause was driven by under-sector of defence, Elbridge Colby, who has long argued that Russia-Ukraine war is distraction from competition with China. Well, yes, I'll point it out again. Well done. You've expended everything on the Middle East before you've even begun to tackle China or to deter China from Iran from Iran in Taiwan. So what an extraordinary policy. What a smart bunch of people. The pause included items that, according to CSIS, would be delayed by years. Under the pearl mechanism they prioritized to Ukraine requirements list, European countries now purchase American weapons for Ukraine using their own funds. Trump has been clear, the US will not pay. Europe buys America delivers. That's the theory. Except now America is not delivering because those same weapons are being consumed in Iran. Secretary of State Rubio told Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty in March, "If we need something for America and it's American, we're going to keep it for America first." I'm not sure he actually gets the concept of exports and trade and legal partnerships and anything like that. Actually, he added that nothing had yet been diverted from Ukraine, but it could be, he threatened. Senate Banking Committee's minority analysis published on the 4th anniversary of the full scale invasion documented the collapse of US sanctions enforcement. Sanctions rollouts fell from at least 32 per year under Biden to a single rollout across the entire fourth year of the war. The A7 network, which reportedly handles nearly 19% of Russia's foreign trade, remains un-sanctioned and the Trump administration extended its waiver on Russian oil sanctions twice, most recently on April 18th, despite Secretary, Treasury Secretary, Bessence pledged not to renew it. As a surprise, he was lying. The NATO demolition. Now the alliance itself. Trump has called NATO severely weakened, extremely unreliable, a paper tiger and useless. Trump could have been describing his own foreign policy, his own inconsistency on everything. They're inconsistent, unless he's benefiting Russia. He has called European leaders cowards for refusing to join the Iran War. He has threatened America withdrawal from the alliance on April 24th. Two days ago, writers reported that a Pentagon email proposed suspending Spain from NATO functions, viewing US support for Russia's sovereignty over the Fulplan Islands, limiting prestigious NATO roles for countries deemed difficult and broadly reducing what the Trump administration's views as Europe's sense of entitlement. But there we have the popped calling the "Kettle Black" if there's one word. I would have described Trump with. It is entitlements. Well, if you add grift grotesque hypocrisy and pathological untruthfulness. Pentagon Press Secretary King Wilson declined to comment on internal deliberations but told Reuters that the water department will ensure that the president has credible options to ensure that our allies are no longer a paper. Tiger, well so far we have seen little but insults and denigrations so I won't hold my breath waiting for such a policy. To emerge, NATO responded that its founding treaty contains no provision for suspension but as the spectator observed Trump does not need a formal mechanism. He can simply decline to cooperate and the effect is functionally identical. Max Bergman of CSIS told Reuters this is the worst place. NATO has been since it was founded, former French armed forces general, La Coitre de Sède, whether NATO should even continue to be called NATO is a valid question. Bloomberg reported in April that NATO leadership is genuinely preparing for the possibility of a US exit. And on the same day as the Pentagon member, Trump invited Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami. To be held at Trump's own national D'oral resort, he said Putin was rightfully offended by being expelled from the G8 after annexing Crimea. He said Putin's attendance would be very helpful. As I said in yesterday's episode, it would neither be helpful nor should Putin be rightfully offended by anything. He should rightfully be clapped in handcuffs and carted off to the hague. But I very much doubt that Trump will be doing this. Unfortunately, let's turn to the pattern. Let's compile the complete ledger because seeing it all together focuses the pattern much more clearly. Weapons drain. Patriot interceptors consumed in Iran, arms deliveries delayed to Baltic states and Scandinavia, Poland pressured to send its own patriots to the Middle East, Switzerland's air defense ordered delayed five years. Tom Hock replaced him up to take a decade Europe told to buy American weapons that then America keeps, well, it takes the money and keeps the product. For itself, Ukraine abandoned zero new US military funding since January 2025, aid paused in July 2025, including Patriots Zelensky called a liar by Rubion Pressure to seed Donbass. Intelligence sharing suspended then partly restored. Trump said Zelensky was the last person he turned to for drone defense, then quietly sent Ukraine advisors to train Americans to defend them at least. To pull the role the Americans could not perform themselves. The idea that someone in this administration is calling Ukrainians liars is one of the most grotesque things, perhaps, about this whole affair. Sanctions gutted Russian oil waivers extended twice, sanctions roll-outs collapsed from 32 to 1 per year, a seven network left untouched the price cap on Russian crude, effectively suspended. Russia, if Ukraine hadn't bombed its two-up-ser-refinary and logistical networks, would it be making money hand over fist? Thanks to Donald Trump, and of course they would have invested it in killing Ukrainians. NATO downgraded. With Dural, threatened allies called coward Spain suspended Britain's fault-planned sovereignty, challenged seeding more conflicts around the world. Of course this is all incidental, accidental. Or is it? European NATO roles stripped as punishment the alliance described as useless by its own guarantor. Putin rehabilitated the Alaska Summit without Ukraine, G20 invitation Trump's own resort, Putin described as rightfully offended, Russia's return to the G7 advocated. If Russia's return is to be forced on the G7, I hope all the other leaders walk out, walk out on Trump, leaving him and his mate Putin in the room alone. Every single item on this list produces one output reduced European capacity to defend against Russia and increased Russian freedom of action, destroying the deterrence power of the alliance is the sum total of Trump's actions. Not one item produces the opposite. Not one strengthens deterrence. Not one increases pressure on Moscow and not one supports Ukraine. Not one of them consolidates the alliance. But we're being told that this is all coincidental. I don't think so. The pattern is not ambiguous. It is not a matter of interpretation. It is a list of verifiable actions, each of which independently weakens the Western defence architecture that constrains Russia and its imperial aggressions, of which taken together constitute the most systematic dismantling of transatlantic security since 1949. Well, who is the beneficiary? Now ask who benefits? Putin's army has stalled, his economy has contracted, his budget deficit has blown through its annual target. In one quarter, his approval rating is at its lowest since the invasion. Recruitment cannot keep pace with losses. His last European ally has been voted out. His own war analysts are calling for strategic retreat, which gone of his invoking the spectra of 1917 from the Duma floor. 26 million people watched an influence at tell him. His country is afraid of him, afraid of the dictator. Every structural indicator says Putin is losing and the time is working against him. The pressure is cumulative and accelerating. This should be the moment when the West presses hardest. When sustained, unified pressure could force genuine concessions or accelerate internal collapse in Russia. Instead, at exactly this moment, the presence of the United States is draining the weapons that defend NATO's eastern flank, delaying arms that Europe has already paid for, consuming the patronage receptors that Ukraine needs to survive, providing zero new military funding to give, lifting sanctions on Russian oil, threatening to leave NATO, punishing allies who refused to join his illegal war in Iran and inviting the man under ICC indictment for child deportation to a summit at a Trump branded resort. You can't make any of this up and we should ask why? Because if Putin is not going to end the war, if Putin is going to survive, or at least in his mind, if he is hoping to survive this, his only option is escalation. And at this point, his only option is to escalate against Europe to try to dissuade it from supporting Ukraine, try to force it to stock palm munitions so that it cannot help Ukraine or to suck those munitions out of Europe so he has a better chance of attacking, probably in a hybrid format, possibly invading. The question is not whether this benefits Russia, that is self-evident. The question is whether a pattern this consistent across 16 months, across dozens of decisions, without a single exception that strengthens European defence, deterrence or increases pressure on Moscow can be explained by incompetence, ideology or transactional self-interest alone, it cannot, or whether at some point the pattern itself becomes the explanation, the only possible interpretation. Every weapon consumed in Iran is a weapon that doesn't defend, Taelin, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw or Kiev, every patriot interceptified at an Iranian drone is a patriot that doesn't shoot down a Russian missile, every month of sanctions relief is a month of Russian revenue, increased revenue, that they spend on death. And destruction, every NATO threat is a fracture in the alliance that Putin has been trying to break for 20 years, normalising interpretations from classical analysts and journalists will dismiss the pattern of cumulative benefits as incidental, and they will only analyse the surface detail, the single most plausible explanation for each of these events looked at almost in a silo and when looked through the prism of classical diplomacy and state craft, but that is not what Trump is running here. There is nothing about classic diplomacy and state craft in his actions or even derisert that can be explained by realist interpretation of policy. They would argue that Trump did not create the Iran war to drain European air defenses, but maybe he did. He did not lift sanctions to fund Russian missiles, but maybe he did. He did not invite Putin to Miami to normalise war crimes, but maybe he did. He did not threaten the foreclans to fracture the UK-US alliance to draw UK military assets into a pointless conflict to weaken support for Ukraine and weaken European defenses, but maybe he did. Each decision they would argue has its own stated rationale, its own internal logic, its own official justification. The pattern is just a coincidence they would say. But I don't buy this argument. You do not get coincidence that is this consistent over such a period of time delivered by somebody who is not necessarily a great strategic brain that is Trump. He is erratic, but here we see an extraordinary pattern of decisions all of which ladder up to benefit Russia. The output is the same every time without exception. The real plan is visible in its effects. Suck weapons out of Europe. Drain the stockpiles, delay the deliveries, consume the interceptors, degrade the alliance, rehabilitate the dictator, force Europe to stockpile weapons and abandon Ukraine. And leave the continent that stands between Russia and the Atlantic more vulnerable than it has been since the Cold War. Whether this is the plan or merely its consequence, I'll leave that for you to decide Europe cannot afford to wait for the answer. It must arm itself. It must build its own air defence system. It must fund its own munitions. It must manufacture its own deterrence. It must collaborate very closely with Ukraine because the country that was supposed to guarantee European security is now the country most actively undermining it and undermining it to benefit its traditional adversary. Russia. Trump operates to the benefit of Russia. It's pointless asking if this is a conscious act or not. The result is exactly the same.
