Loves and Loathes: Vintage Steph Curry, the Unbeaten Grizzlies, and Coaching in Quarter-Zips
1h 19m 17s
Brian Dawkins shares his personal journey with major depressive disorder, stressing the importance of mental health support and treatment, specifically highlighting Caplyta as an effective adjunct to antidepressants. He notes its proven benefits in symptom relief but cautions about serious risks like stroke, weight gain, and high cholesterol, emphasizing patient monitoring. The episode shifts to sports commentary, focusing on the Memphis Grizzlies’ impressive 5-0 start, their deep and cohesive team structure, and the exciting yet risky performance of rookie John Morant. Morant’s hamstring injury during a game against the Blazers creates a narrative about team resilience and player vulnerability. The discussion explores how team depth allows for balanced performance, with players like Ty Jerome and Cam Boots flourishing in high-pressure situations. The show also touches on broader themes: the unpredictability of injuries, the significance of defensive coordination, and the impact of player development. Additional segments cover the rise of young talent like Cooper Flag, the controversial nature of WNBA play, political advertising tactics, and the emotional resonance of charitable donations—especially in relation to healthcare. These elements illustrate a blend of personal health advocacy and in-depth sports analysis, offering both insight and reflection on performance, resilience, and community.
I'm pro-football Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins, and I lived for a long time with something I did not
know the name of, major depressive disorder. I carried sadness and anger because I thought I
could handle it alone, but I couldn't. Now I want to make sure others know that that support is out
there. If you're experiencing similar symptoms, talk to a healthcare professional. Visit mddallies.com

Caplyta Lumateperone. I needed more from my antidepressant, so my doctor added Caplyta
Lumateperone, proven to provide greater relief from depression symptoms than an antidepressant
alone, building on my progress without starting over. Caplyta is for adults with major depressive
disorder when used with an antidepressant and is available by prescription only. Individual
results may vary. In clinical trials, weight gain was not common.
Patients have increased risk of death or stroke. Caplyta is not approved for dementia-related
psychosis. Call your doctor about new or sudden mood changes, behaviors, or suicidal thoughts
right away. Antidepressants may increase these risks. Report fever, confusion, stiff muscles,
which may be life-threatening, or uncontrolled muscle movements, which may be permanent. High
cholesterol and weight gain may occur, as can high blood sugar, which may be fatal.
Monitoring is recommended. Common side effects are sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth,
feeling tired, and diarrhea. These aren't all the side effects. Ask your doctor about Caplyta.

Welcome to The Mismatch. I'm Chris Vernon, and joining me to see us every week from TheRinger.com
is Dave Jacoby. Jacoby!
The only thing that matters right now, the only thing that people want to hear is Chris Vernon
talk about the Grizzlies.
So just have the floor. Just have it.
You mean the undefeated 5-0 Memphis Grizzlies?
That's, yeah, those ones.
We'll get to that, because that'll be in Loves and Loads. We do need to start by saying,
it does feel like deja vu.
No, no, time out, time out, time out. You got us. You can just do a second round of Loves
and Loads. At the top of the show, right after the Grizzlies go 5-0, when they're underdogs
on the road against another undefeated team, you have to talk Grizzlies up top.
Not only are the Grizzlies 5-0, but they're also undefeated.
The Grizzlies 5-0 have a young team that has been thrown together. Their rookie was
the second youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double. They are 4-0 on
a road trip to start the season, which is pretty unbelievable. And last night, at the
game against his former
team. John Morant
in his bag against
his former team. This is how the game
started. And it was like,
oh, this is quite the build-up.
Oh, and the song. Don't forget the
song choice. And then
there is a clip that goes
around that the
player from the
Portland Trailblazers
gets to select a song
that is played
in the pregame. And so
they put up on their Jumbotron
tonight's selection
from John Morant
Cross Me
by NBA Youngboy.
Which, if you
were to go read the lyrics,
are pretty unbelievable.
And so, that's
all leading into
now Morant playing against
his former team.

Now, just as a
point of
clarity here,
there is somewhat of a
minor
civil war that goes on
within a small market
that has a superstar that left
where there is going to be
a portion of the fan base that is
always Grizzlies, Grizzlies, no matter
what. And then, with the
advent of the John Morant
era, a lot of new fans came
along. And then those fans
now resent the team
because they are gone. And so,
everybody knew
they wanted nothing more
than for John Morant to
cook the Grizzlies last night.
Because they had stood by
John Morant. But, as
they played last night against the
3-0 Blazers, they go on like a
28-6 run
in the game. I mean, they wore them out.
They waved the white flag with
four and a half minutes left in the
game. And this was a game that was
tied at halftime.
And then, in the
most. Greek tragedy
way ever, not only
do the Blazers get
demolished in the game,
John Morant goes out in the second half
with a hamstring injury.
You saw it. I hit the group
chat and I was like, John looks like he's limping.
And then, two possessions
later, he had a crazy closeout
where he jumped. I remember this. He jumped
in the air and swung his hand like he was going to try
to take someone's head off, but just to distract
somebody from shooting a three. It was super athletic. I was like,
I guess he's not that hurt.
And then, he's out.
And as I've told you many times, I have no ill
feeling about John Morant.
I mean, you know, I watched
him for the first seven years of his career.
I know everybody involved with him.
I hope he achieves
what he should have achieved. I would
hate for it to be a sad
story of what might have been.
Because I think he is mega talented
and he seems to be in a good place now.
And
I gotta be honest with you.
It's been a thing.
Over the course of the last
three plus years,
where it was like, bro, can you play
five games in a row?
And we would
get to maybe game four
or we would get to game five in a row
and then it would happen again.
And we'd be like,
there's no way.
You go back and look at how many times
he's played five games. Five.
Not like ten.
Not like twenty. Five.
And so to see that happen,
last night, that was a
huge bummer.
Because it's like, well, one thing has not changed.
And on the other
hand, the Grizzlies, who
last week,
I said in Loves and Lows, you always
try to identify, like, who is the
try-hard team? And I told you,
this is the try-hard team.
They're trying hard. And they are deep.
And you have seen, at the beginning
of the year, Ty Jerome won
Western Conference Play of the Week.
And to watch them now,
like, I'm watching them last night,
for the other team to deploy
their best defender on him
into Monty Kamara.
Shut him down. And he's also
guarding him from 94 feet.
And he is
getting
guarded like a superstar.
He's made to
C2. He's deploying
the best defender on him.
But it does open up everything for
everybody else. Because it's like,
are you really going to use your best
guy on Ty Jerome? Okay!
And next thing you know,
and they have
had this belief that their
strength in numbers, obviously the way
this guy coaches, Tumas Isolo,
he goes deep
into the bench and plays a
bunch of guys. And
it's almost like line changes
sometimes. And then
you watch these second quarters
and you watch these fourth quarters, and they
have proven to have a distinct advantage
against their opponents in
those by playing fast,
playing a bunch of guys. And obviously, they got
good players. They got good players. They don't
have the A-plus guys, but they got
a bunch of good ones.
They're just like a. What am I trying to think of?
You know those dogs
in Africa? They're like a pack, and they hunt
and they take the prey, and they
corral them, and they
have a coordinated attack of like
15, a pack of dogs, and they get like one
prey. That's what it feels like when you play the Grizzlies.
They're not the biggest. They're not. You know what I mean? There's just a pack
and they move in coordination.
And like Beef Stew last night was great.
Like Gigi Jackson. They're just deep.
They got a bunch of just B-pluses.
It's been a different. No A-pluses. And it's been a
different guy. Like ever since. Yeah.
So, as we always talk about the whiteboard,
as soon as Jerome went
to the top of everybody's whiteboard,
which happened very, very quickly,
now you have seen these other guys
be able to flourish. And then
I don't know why they're just leaving Cam Boots
open for practice threes. He had
three.
Three just butt-naked practice
threes. They're daring him to shoot them.
And he didn't just hit them. He casually
easily knocked them down
swishy. That is actually something
that was mega fascinating because
what happened last night
is Zack Eadie
and Donovan Klingon was like. They hate each other.
And it was also like 1993.
These pigs. It was like King Kong versus Godzilla.
Eat. No.
I think. Edie hates him.
It really does.
And I forgot they played each other in college in the championship.
Oh, yeah.
Last year, some stuff happened.
I didn't know this was, like, so historic.
Oh, yeah.
I was like, man, these two are getting after it.
This goes back to Purdue-UConn, for sure.
And, I mean, he's yelling to him about flopping.
He's, like, telling him to get up.
And then Donovan Klingin is just like, whatever.
They really, like, there's real smoke there.
I love it.
It's great.
I mean, you just don't see that with big guys.
And you have these two just mountains that really, like,
tangle with each other and obviously can't stand each other.
So, that was great.
But the thing is, Edie gets fouls.
Beef Stew got three fouls.
Quentin Post got hurt because that's their third center.
So, what do they do?
Yeah, he hit a couple threes, too.
So, when you asked about the stepping into threes,
they played Boozer at the five.
And now, this creates a choice.
You have to make defensively, which is the choice you were talking about.
They don't want to draw Klingin or a center away from the basket.
That opens up the basket for guys to drive.
And so, if he can knock those down, you ask, why is it so open?
I mean, this is, like, the drop coverage thing.
And it's, like, if you – it was interesting to watch because you're like,
oh, this is actually a real weapon because if he can man the five defensively
and rebound well enough and hold down the four, that creates a huge –
you saw it last year with your championship-level team on a much higher level.
But that is the problem that Cat creates for teams.
If you're going to play your big lug and they're going to play Cat at the five,
he'll just – I mean, it's shooting fish in a barrel if you're going to leave him
out there to knock down threes.
And so, if Boozer can knock down threes, his ability to play the five
becomes a massive weapon for them.
And I don't think they would have even gotten to it in that way if it weren't
for foul trouble and post going out.
No, and I don't think he's going to see naked threes like that too often
because the NBA, usually someone's coming to close you out,
whether they're late or whatever.
Like, usually someone's coming, but there's just no one coming.
But one of my biggest takeaways from this game, outside of the Grizzlies
are easily the best team in the NBA, and they're probably going to go 8-2-0,
is that I would hate to cover Denny Advia.
I would hate to cover him.
Like, there are possessions.
Where the defender is just running alongside of him with their hands,
I think it was like Cedric Coward or somebody, with their hands straight up.
And Advia just sort of like bumps India and sweeps his shot up,
so he hits your arms, and the refs call it.
And it's like, you can't really be mad at Denny for having this effective game.
You know, Brunson does it too, SGA does it.
Like, guys get to the line, you know, but like, I would hate to cover him.
I would lose my mind.
Well, and one of the things that you're finding about these,
guys, and I watched him last night, I remember back in the day,
it was about, like, whether it was James Harden, or it was Jalen Brunson,
or it's Luka Doncic, and you wonder, like, how. Or Kevin Durant with the sweep through.
Would you say, how do these mega, like, these guys are not mega athletes,
so how do they do it?
And then what they did is, like, many of the times,
what they would find is they would study these guys,
and they would say, we always focus on fast twitch and acceleration.
But what. But these guys, the blessing that they have is they stop faster than you.
Yeah, Denny did that a couple times last night.
The deceleration, it's actually, it's almost like the complete opposite.
Yeah, if you think about it, it's like, yeah, we go 0-60 faster than you,
but you don't stop as fast as I do,
which is going to create the exact same advantage as the acceleration.
And these guys are all great, and he is one of those.
He is great at it.
If you watch him, he's going full speed, and then he just stops.
And you can't stop in time.
They use steps to their advantage.
I'd hate to cover him.
And you know what?
You can tell in the locker room before the game, they're like,
listen, Denny Obvious is going to try to get to the line.
Just make sure you don't have your arms in this position.
Make sure you don't do this.
And there's just nothing you can do about it.
There's just nothing you can do.
He's going to get to the line.
And also, like you see last night, Klingon is fantastic,
but they missed Time Lord because, of course,
they're running out Brendan Carlson.
I mean, these guys are, you know,
should not be playing.
The guys that they were running out at center,
whenever Klingon would have to sit,
are not guys that you would tend on plugging.
And Robert Williams being out for them was a thing.
But it was mega impressive.
All right.
And you tell me, where's the loss?
So Memphis plays.
Oh.
All right.
Kings tomorrow night.
In Sacramento?
No, no.
Home.
It's all home.
Home, okay.
This is all home.
Okay.
Yeah.
They're coming.
They're flying back.
They flew back last night.
So it's probably a win.
Pacers Monday night?
Probably a win.
Yeah.
Huh?
Pacers try hard.
They get the scissors around there.
No, they're hurt.
You see their injury thing the other night was 10 deep.
And Halliburton's already out.
Right?
All right.
I'll give you Pacers.
Keep going.
So you got, okay.
Kings.
Oh, I missed Pelican.
I missed Pelicans.
Kings, Pelicans.
So you're giving them that.
Pacers.
Sure.
We may do the show.
All I'm telling you is I don't want to get ahead of myself.
I don't know.
Things happen, man.
I understand.
There's upsets every night.
Anyone who has a FanDuel account will tell you.
I am only telling you.
I'm just going to prepare you.
There is a very real possibility that Memphis is 8-0 going into Oklahoma City a week from
today.
Okay.
And I'm going to be honest with you.
I'm just going to tell you that when we do the show next Friday, we are talking about
the 8-0 Grizzlies playing against Oklahoma City at home next Friday.
It could happen.
I mean, the next three games are Sacramento, New Orleans, Indiana, all at home.
Schedule's light at the beginning of the year.
Schedule's light.
That's great.
But I love it.
It was, it was, that was unbelievable.
And Boozer.
Boozer is awesome.
Absolutely awesome.
They were 4-0 and he hadn't hit a shot yet.
And then last night broke out for a triple-double.
And been a good start so far.
That's for sure.
That's my first.
Sure has.
That's my first love.
I love him.
We also had the Hawks beating the Cavs in Atlanta.
Big Kong Wu night.
Big Kong Wu night.
Big night.
I was like, damn, he's hitting threes.
He's getting to the rack.
He's getting to the line.
Playing defense.
I was like, because that was one of the big sort of like question marks about their team.
It's like, who's in the center?
Like, they got a bunch of wins.
Who's in the center?
You worried at all about your Cavs?
Um.
Yes.
A little bit.
I mean, it did feel, both teams run a back-to-back, right?
And Atlanta back-to-back's not an easy one.
No.
And they've got guys.
To make Mitchell play the way he did.
Because he was like one for nine from three.
You know?
And Peyton Watson was one for eight from the floor.
Like, it was, you know, it was a competitive game.
Yep.
Came down to the end.
Mitchell had two looks to tie the game at the end.
That's right.
He had two looks.
Not great looks, but two looks in one possession.
You know, two cracks at the apple.
Is that how you say it?
Two cracks at the apple?
They did.
Bites.
Two bites at the apple.
What the hell?
What the hell is wrong with you?
Hey, I will say this.
The Cavs have been one of those teams that, like, you regularly can text and say,
hey, turn on the end of the Cavs game.
Like, at least they've given us that.
They'll be in it.
Yeah, they'll be in it.
Right?
They're not getting blown out.
Yeah.
What's your first love?
I'm not too concerned.
Okay.
You know what I'm going to do?
Pelicans-Kings?
Okay.
Big one.
You're scared.
You're scared if you say something about the Pelicans-Kings,
they might get your grizzly.
Oh, no.
That's tomorrow night.
Halloween night.
I will say this.
Unbelievable Darius Acuff box score.
Oh, yeah.
And that dunk in transition.
Yeah, because I'm watching the Hawks and the Cavs.
I got my eye on the other game.
There was only three games last night, but that dunk was on everyone.
Damn.
That was awesome.
And Fears, too.
Fears played really well.
Oh, by the way.
How do I say this?
Quick 20-second timeout.
Just because we brought up Acuff.
And obviously, I think about watching him so much last year at Arkansas.
Wait till you see this year's Arkansas team.
I just happened to watch them the other night because they played like in a…
Wait.
They had the finish kick, right?
They called him Slim Jesus.
Yes.
Yo, the game started.
They scrimmaged Memphis, and it was on ESPN+.
So, I watched it.
The game starts.
There's a turnover to start the game, and this guy gets it.
He jumps the passing lane, goes out on a break, and cocks this thing back like this.
His name's Mika.
Yeah, if you don't know who this is, I think he's from Finland, right?
And he's got a Michael Myers tattoo.
This guy.
He's awesome.
Oh, and they've got the number one point guard recruit in the country, this kid named Jordan Smith.
And they've got a Billy Richmond III, who is awesome.
Like, they are…
If you are an NBA fan, you're going to tune in Arkansas.
saw and just frothed at the mouth
at some of these guys because they
are. While we're on the college basketball
tangent, I saw a headline today that was on ESPN
that there's this new
highly-touted point guard who's committed to
LSU.
Last name, Alston.
No. I was like, no.
Is it really?
Rafer Alston's
kid is like. I know
because anyone who's our age,
those N1 mixtapes, the VHS's
were like. I've
probably watched Volume 1 and Volume 2
more than any other film I've ever seen in my whole entire life.
Legendary.
And Skip
was like, actually made it from
a mixtape on VHS
to the Toronto Raptors
in like two years.
That's how good he was.
He was on Jalen's
team one time and I think
there was some argument or something and Skip
didn't pass him the ball one time in an entire game.
It was like, he just completely
closed him out. They would call plays for Jalen, he would
come around a curl and Skip would just be like, nah.
Nah. Okay, back to
what you had. Yeah, yeah, let me hear yours.
I do want to say about the Pelicans and Kings, you'll
be watching these two teams.
Just some very curious
coaching decisions on both sides.
Just keep an eye on that while you're
in the building. Enjoying
these wins because I just
can't figure out what the plan is there.
All right.
Boom. I teased it on
Tuesday. It feels like seven years ago now.
But after our
episode, I
meditated
and I just got
myself ready physically. I went to the cryo chamber
and then I went to the New York Knickerbockers contest
against the Pistons. Let me tell you something.
They were 0-3
at the time. I don't know if you
remember that game because it was a million years ago, two
Knicks games ago. They were getting
their asses handed to them in the first quarter.
They, it
was like 25 to 38
after the first quarter. And I
remember at one point, like the Oregon person
like does this, like the cue
the defense chant. And like
there was no one booing, but you don't get
so quiet in an arena
that like when the other team scores, you can hear them
like scream. And it was just like the Pistons were
hitting everything and like it
was so quiet and it got a little
like they got weird in
the garden. And I remember the
Oregon guy was like,
you know,
and like the whole crowd was just like,
fuck you.
We're not chanting defense
when they give us 38 points in the first
quarter. It was just like, no, y'all got
to earn that. Like Oregon guy,
no, this is not like a
two-point game in the fourth quarter. We're all at our
feet. What do you think Oregon guy thinks when
no one responds to his Oregon?
Yeah, Oregon guy was like,
let me try
this out. You know, the vibes are weird. We need
to stop. He's like, we need to stop. How can I help?
Let's get the crowd chanting defense.
I don't think there's a single person
like not even a kid was said defense
when he tried to do that. I got to know
what are you? So your buddy takes you
to the game with this season tickets. What
are the conversations you guys are having
at the end of the first quarter? I mean, this
is existential crisis, right?
Because this is the get right game
and now you're down double digits again
and your team doesn't look right.
It's just
we can't get a stop. It's just
we can't get a stop, right?
And then we start.
Is it? Is it Mitchell?
Is it?
No, it's it's it's
here's what it is. If you start going down the
intrusive thoughts is what the kids call it. So then you're like championship
hangover Brunson shouldn't have
done SNL. We need Mitchell
Robinson. This team doesn't have
the heart. They don't care like they used to
and then of course they turn it around. I think they
literally scored nine points. They scored 12 points.
Then the Pistons were 12 points in the second
quarter and 13 in the third
quarter.
And then next thing you know, the Knicks
are up by 20 and we're all celebrating. My buddy had
he's a doctor. So he works overnights.
So he had to leave at the end of the third, but he left with
the game very well in hand. And I was
just like it was
it was it was great to watch. It was it was a
good feeling watching the Knickerbockers get
that win and then they beat the Bulls the next night in the
home and road back to back. Okay, two questions
a
does Madison Square Garden feel
any different this year post
championship?
Yes, more expensive.
More expensive. Everything
is everything. Now the sodas
are 20 bucks.
Everything's more expensive.
I couldn't be there unless my
buddy has tickets. I pay face value. I
just I wouldn't even be there. Otherwise
just everything. It was fun though.
It was fun. It was fun. It is it the
vibes are different. It doesn't feel like
it doesn't feel like this
team's hitting on all cylinders and
everything's going great because there were
there was like two possessions. This is what I said to my
friend. I was like, there's only been like two possessions. I was
like, man, they really whipped the ball around
and that was a nice back cut. There's a couple of nice like
pocket passes, but there's no like
I don't know. There's no sort of like, wow, this
team is really like on a string defensively
or look at that four pass possession that
leads to an open three. It just just doesn't
feel great. You also get
look, you should and
theoretically you get everybody's best effort.
That is the difference when you come back from
a title year right now.
That is the that's the reigning
champs coming in town. That is a huge
feather for everybody. If you
get that win for every team
for every team. Yes, you know, I mean that it is
different. They were
they had a lot of trouble with the business last year and
you know, Dern wasn't there but Paul Reed man
remember him in the playoffs last year
and like he looked great
this game. I was like, how
how the Sixers is let this guy go. Also
it makes it a lot
less devastating to lose Isaiah
Stewart because Reed
has been able to do that.
And because he's that energy and he's
that kind of fighter and he's got that kind
of DNA, whatever the second
thing I was going to ask you real quickly is
will you watch
Detective
Mitchell? I think they say in the
in this
trailer. Have you seen this where
Mariska Harketag is like Detective
Mitchell and Jalen Brunson
turns around. He's on
law and order SVU.
Oh God, you haven't
seen this. No,
you haven't seen the trailer
haven't and she was just on his podcast
to know. I'm she's like, well, I get
I follow every Knicks account. I don't
know. I don't like we'll have to call Detective
me or you know, we're going to have to
get Detective Mitchell and then all
of a sudden turning around from a desk is
Jalen Brunson. He's a detective.
I'm like, oh, this is
amazing. And
they gave him Donovan Mitchell's last name. I think
it's maybe it's wrong. I might be
wrong though. I think it's Detective
Mitchell. I might be wrong. All right.

Anyway, all right. First
load. The crap teams
being the crap teams. I'll make this quick.
You know, I think I was hopeful
that, you know, we do our preseason
deals. We do our predictions and we say,
all right, these teams are out of it. These teams are
in it. And obviously those get
wrecked immediately because of injuries.
But Chicago,
Milwaukee, the Clippers, Sacramento,
the Pelicans, like
everybody we
thought was going to be bad is bad.
Like somebody's got
the Grizzlies notwithstanding. I was about
to say there's one surprising. I got
it. But I mean, like they were
I know they were like in trouble
of being like in the relegation zone.
They're over under every. It was
like unanimous that they're
over under was too low. And
every podcast said if there's a
team to watch, you know who could be dangerous.
So like they were tagged as a team
that it could happen. Right.
Whereas the rest of these
you wanted one of these teams
to be like, you know what?
They're way better than I thought they were going to be.
And like, yeah, instead
you look at the schedule and you're
like, all right, that it's
kind of odd. Like they're not
we started off and it's
like the first week of the season.
But none of them
have been you can consider.
And I know that the Grizzlies are being framed
as but they're not
big surprises. But I mean, if you listen
to a podcast, if you are an ardent
fan, there's a
scenario where people saw this coming.
I guess it's a little surprising that Miami's
one and four, and it's a little surprising
possibly that Utah's one and
four. But other than that,
it's pretty much been the teams
that we expected to be bad
been bad. And I figured one
of them going
into the first week and a half, two weeks of the season.
season we'd be like hey maybe they're
not what we thought they were gonna be
yeah there's there's no team that's
surprising you being better than we
thought right outside the Grizzlies but
they're they kind of jumped from mid
tier to top tier but no one's jumping
from bottom tier to mid tier right yeah
things not yet not yet things happen
over time related so the Hornets trade
the mellow ball all right you know and
you know Nas Reed comes back and all
you hear is all you hear about how Nas
Reed was so important to the community
and how everyone loves him in Minnesota
and I've always thought that he's just
showing flashes like one time he was in
transition and he went around the back
on a defender and then they pulled up
from three and I was like damn like the
seven-footer like Steph Curry out there
and the the weirdest thing happened in
this game when they're up at the half
and by now you've heard it because it
happened Wednesday night and then Nas
Reed doesn't play in the second half and
head coach Charles Lee's asked about it
after the game and he was ready to say
yeah you know unfortunately you know
Nas didn't meet our standards in the
first half and at halftime we made a
decision that he wouldn't play in the
second half but I look forward to him
meeting those standards come next game
so I thought that was weird and
preparing for the show love the internet
because the internet will get to the
bottom of things right now afterwards
they all get to the bottom of things
they all said like oh it's just a blip
the radar and you know we've you know we
cleared the the air or whatever like
there's no ongoing lamb chops pork chops
beef or anything of that nature with
gravy but there's a couple clips online
and there's one where there's this like
there's a sideline inbound play where it
seems like Nas is a little lost doesn't
know where he's going and he's you know
set to pick on the ball when it's
supposed to be on you know another
player and then there's a there's a
clip and they're going to the next
game and then they're going to break
they take like the wide shot kind of
like from the jumbotron and you can see
that the team is walking to the bench
and Charles Lee's kind of like grabs
Nas Reed and this is at the end of the
first half and he wants to talk to him
there's also some clips of not read sort
of missing shots and turning the ball
over but nothing crazy like he's not
like right you know and what it really
feels like happened is that they got to
an argument at halftime you know yeah
and the coach is trying to establish hey
man I'm not going to be able to
I'm the coach here yes and I'm in
charge you're not in charge like
Lamella ball kind of doing whatever he
wanted right set the wrong standard and
one of the reasons we traded him was
sort of like some more organization and
a little bit more falling in line and
you know I think that he was a little
upset about that but I just made me sad
I love Nas Reed I want Nas Reed to
flourish on the Hornets the Hornets
really are missing con canipple and
Kobe White but I'm not going to be
upset about that I wish I wish I hope
that we forget about this soon and
Nas Reed is putting up big numbers and
playing okay good because that actually
leads into my second love which is
Brandon Miller's 104 points in three
games there's no way around it the
internet jumped all over it when he had
six points and was two for 14 and one
for 11 from three right after signing a
200 million dollar contract I mean that
led to the guy got 200 million dollars
and then goes out there and is two for
14 from the field for three years and
six points good luck to Brandon Miller
being your number one guy and his
response I mean they their losses are
they got bashed in that second game of
the season to Atlanta their other one is
a loss on the road to the Pistons which
was noble which they did the other night
a game in which he had like 31 and 12 in
that game you have 39 against the
Wizards so yet 104 and three games their
wins are Brooklyn Miami and Washington
and they'll they'll they'll they'll
that is interesting because Miami and
Washington are ones that they would
absolutely consider to be peers right if
you're going to be fighting for 10 if
you're trying to get into yes you know
that play in spot they actually play
Washington again tonight but since since
that six-point game Brandon Miller
responded with 34 39 31 like you said
they still don't have cock nipple and
Kobe White so he we're going to have to
when we're talking he is the whiteboard
the rest of that lineup is his Dennis
Schroeder Diabate Nas Reed and Cyon
James that's the rest that's who he
started with in the Pistons game Brandon
Miller Dennis Schroeder Diabate Reed
Cyon James and he's gone 34 39 31 and
he'll get concussion and he'll get
a nipple back he'll get Kobe White back
and like maybe they could be a little
bit surprising because they've been able
to hold down the fourth that's three and
two already this season him averaging
what he's averaged over the course of
the last couple of games and he's doing
that without what seems to be not much
help so shout out to Brandon Miller took
all the took all the arrows for sure
after signing for 200 something million
dollars and throwing up the dud of all
dirt and all the dirt and all the dirt
duds in Atlanta but my god what a
response 104 and three games a lot of
points that's a lot yeah hell yeah and
he's in there playing the Wizards
tonight who he just dropped 39 right
could keep it up I mean again who else
are you he is the guy shooting like 27
percent of their shots 27 percent of
their field goals it's pretty probably
should be shooting more I know it's
exactly what I wrote my did you just
did you just hear the lineup that I
mentioned I mean Schroeder Diabate
Miller Sion James Nasri Diabate I mean
it's not that bad that is horrible it's
not that bad what well the I think I
Kobe White and conk nipple will help a
lot you think yeah um shout to Brandon
Miller next love next love um just a
vintage Steph Knight just absolutely
vintage Steph Knight like he oh god it
was against the Timberwolves obviously
missing Anthony Edwards but they were
putting McDaniels on him who's like one
of the best defenders like he started
the game just hitting floaters and kind
of back cuts and getting inside and then
in the second quarter was just one of
those like curry flurries where he's
just hitting everything and he's sitting
there and like he's like he's doesn't
think now we're kind of like holds the
ball through and crouches down like a
ninja and just watches it for a little
while it holds still and then he pulled
up one like a heat check shot like a
step in from the logo and it was just
like amazing so he starts inside they
hits everything the second quarter
outside and then he starts doing this
thing in the second half where he gets
to the line a million times he got to
the line 16 times in this game and he
would just get you know you've seen
players do this Chris Paul's really good
at this and Brunson does that and he's
this where you kind of use the pick and
roll and get the guy on your hip and
then sort of like slow down and bump
into him and then lean forward and shoot
like he was just getting to the line
over and over and over again it was such
like a it was just such a great display
of offense and really like a reminder
that at this age of 38 he can still be
the Steph Curry that he's always this is
perfect because it leads into my next
load that wasn't the story from that
game Jacoby was it very you heard you
didn't hear very much about the Steph
Curry unbelievable game you didn't hear
any what did you hear about from that
one yeah Axel not as much Lamilla Rudy
Gobert offense I mean look this has been
long-standing on the mismatch I mean I
cannot stand watching this guy play
basketball I really can't and watching
him go over 13 over the course of two
games is like it's unbelievable I
don't know if you know I think it was I
think it was 0 for 9 on layups and then
layups and he's eight feet tall how it
what just we talked about this on last
episode or watching him throw it off the
top of the box it's just like like if my
daughter did that I'd be like what are
you doing I learned some touch like no
lower on the box he just throws it like
over the box it's just crazy it's we did
this on Tuesday's episode look and you
know what's great you know what's wild I
know that it got worse I know the WNBA
finals are going on right now too and I
know it's all anything WNBA is a
sensitive topic so I don't it okay no
it's very Angel Reese II to me in the
sense that I understand that he's
amazing defensively I understand that
he's athletic and can rebound but this
like the offense when it's like and I
got it I don't understand these guys
it's like this is that's disrespectful to
Angel Reese because she gets buckets and
she makes a lot of money and she makes a
lot of money and she makes a lot of
money and she makes a lot of money and
she can she get misses left and gets
the rebound puts them back in go she is
living catch a lot she's living an
unbelievable life being calling
everybody bums and too little and then
the last like three games being four for
a thousand I mean that is happening you
watch it she'll throw it off the top of
the square to brother don't don't don't
don't get me wrong she had 30 points in
the game earlier it was that was a long
time ago I'm not telling you she's not
Again, Rudy Gobert is good.
I've always, I just, I can't stand, like, watching.
If you talk about WNBA for more than a minute,
all of a sudden we're going to get the comments.
I don't want anything to do with it.
I'm saying big people throwing the ball
off the top of the square drives me crazy.
That's all I'm saying.
Go Bear, do you remember that Lakers playoff game
when he couldn't miss?
I think it was two years ago.
It's the same thing.
It was just like, what the hell?
And I'll say this.
He was so dominant.
He had, like, 40 points.
And also, for his career, he's been 65% from the field.
Like, he's not a guy that typically does this, right?
Like, in the same way, when you watch Reese, whatever, right?
Like, I'm well aware, just like the Laker game,
she can get bucked.
Like, there's going to be a game where she scores 30-something
or whatever.
But, like, when it's bad, it is so bad.
And it's just, like, chucking the ball off the backboard.
And then watching Kaminga and LaMelo yelling at him.
And I don't know.
I saw the presser.
I saw the presser.
No, it wasn't a big deal.
And I don't know what it looked like on the viral video or whatever.
Like, I understand.
There's no doubt in my mind Rudy Gobert doesn't care about being yelled at.
Everybody's yelled at him for his whole career.
Donovan Mitchell's yelled at him.
Ant's yelled at him.
Like, honestly, I totally believe he has the ability to get yelled at
and is wildly unfazed by it.
But watching those guys be like,
so animated, and they're yelling at him.
And his just blank stare with the goatee.
Not even making eye contact.
Not acknowledging that they're talking to him.
Just, like, blank stare out into the void.
It's such a clip.
And of all people, it's LaMelo and Kaminga.
I know.
It's going to be a rough go without Ant.
It is going to be a rough go without Ant.
But, my God, I cannot stand watching this guy play offense.
Again.
Great defender.
Had 20 rebounds in the Cleveland game.
Guy can rebound the ball.
I've never told you he's not good.
I'm telling you, like, the offense thing.
Like, oh, my gosh.
It's crazy to me.
Anybody that's like us, that grew up playing basketball,
that's not tall, resents the guy.
Like, you just think to yourself, my God.
If I could be that for a day, I would dunk on everybody.
You know, Chris Finch is like, why didn't he just dunk?
I told him, stop being finesse.
I don't understand.
I mean, it's all, it's like he's been in the league for, what, 11 years now?
12 years?
Like, it's like, this is, this is who he is.
This is who he's been.
I know, but like, you, but, you know, if I, like, you got a men's league game this week.
Bro, if I made you his height for one night, the amount of dunks you would have,
like, you would just, I mean, you'd try to tear off the rim every time.
For a couple things.
Number one.
I'm, I'm a terrible basketball player now.
I was once good.
I'm awful now.
You are.
I don't think I've scored a point in the last two men's games.
You're really good.
And number two, but no, I don't miss nine layups in a row.
I'm just too scared to shoot.
I don't know.
I just barely contribute.
But secondly, can you really get people that are like us and not tall?
I'm 6'3", Verno.
Yeah, that's fair.
Don't, don't, don't put me in the not tall group.
That's fair.
That's fair.
You're not tall relatively.
You can't.
To who?
You're not dunked.
You're not dunked.
You're not dunked.
You're not dunking.
I was.
Like 20 years ago.
Yeah, literally 20 years.
Maybe even more.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25?
I used to be good at basketball.
That's fair.
I shouldn't have thrown you in the not tall group.
Yeah, come on.
That's fair.
Yeah.
I didn't want to feel alone.
Let's go really quickly through this one.
Because it involves the aforementioned WNBA.
One of my lows is them.
I'm kidding.
My hair.
I had my hair cut yesterday at like 1.30 in the afternoon.
I'm like, oh yeah, the finals are on right now.
If you're on the West Coast, the game started.
Like you're having morning coffee.
All right, hold on.
I'm not, I'm not trying.
And the game started.
I'm not trying to be a dick.
You pay someone to cut your hair?
Now that's you being a dick.
What?
I mean.
That is you being a dick.
Why?
I guess it is me being a dick, but I can't.
I can't believe this.
Why?
Well, don't you answer your question.
You just say a one?
I've had this haircut for a long time.
A one?
No, I used to see, I cut my own hair for a very long time.
And it was just a one.
It was just a one.
Yeah.
But I like a little fade.
Oh.
So I have someone fade a little bit on the side.
So what is it?
It's just one and a half with a skin fade.
Oh.
So there is a little artistry to it that I just can't do myself.
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
The numbers.
I just see your face on.
I don't see it from the side.
I didn't realize that this is an intricate fade.
There's a little something there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But if you want to make fun of me for.
I'm not making fun.
I just didn't know.
No, it's fine.
You know, you can't grow facial hair, but that's fine.
I can't make fun of my hair.
You know, I'm also a Cherokee chief.
I know.
I'm familiar.
Be careful.
Yes.
But yeah, man, the game was, it's just, there's just, there's another solution here.
I know there is.
Someone's got to figure it out.
Like there shouldn't be WNBA finals games at 1230.
As if there's not enough controversy in our hands around the WNBA.
Now we're playing the games on the USA network.
It's on the USA network.
Name a show that airs on the USA network.
A single one.
Law and Order SVU.
Doesn't it?
Repeat.
Those are repeats, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They're repeats.
I think.
Yeah.
I don't know.
There's none.
There's none.
There isn't one.
Yeah.
Next love.
Cooper flag.
Second year leap is on.
Obviously a great win for Dallas.
120 to 96 this week against Oklahoma city.
He went out in the Indiana game, but even in that game, he had 14 points in 17 minutes
before we landed on his shoulder.
I bet before he got taken down by knee Smith.
Yeah.
The other games.
So he had 14 points at 17 minutes.
In that game, the other games so far 32 at Houston, 29 at Miami and 26 against Oklahoma city.
So he's only getting weighed down by the 14 that he had in the 17 minutes in the Indiana
game.
So far he's averaging 25, seven and five.
And as I said, those not, who knows how many he would have gone for in the Indiana game.
Hell, he had 14 points in 17 minutes.
So that could have been another 30 plus in that game.
Um, he looks absolutely awesome to start the season.
And we look for guys that are going to be the next wave of superstars.
He looks like a guy immediately that can make an all-star team by year to make an all NBA
team by year two.
It's, uh, I love, this is not surprising, but I love the chemistry that him and Kyrie
have together, especially in that thunder game, you know, a national TV game too.
Against, against, you know, a contending team.
Like I just, I love them working together.
And I, I just, I think that Kyrie is a vet point guard and he's going to put him in places
to succeed.
And one of the things that always has jumped out to me about Cooper flag is everybody in
the NBA.
I would say like 80% of NBA players are between like six, seven and six, nine.
Like everybody like Lamella ball is the same height as beef stew.
Right.
Like, you know how it works out like that, but Cooper flags are like two inches taller
than everybody.
It feels that way, especially with his skillset, he's just, he's just tall.
He's just a couple inches, not just taller than his position, then everybody on the floor.
That's not like some seven foot giant, just a mega athlete.
Yeah.
I told you, I went to one of his high school games and I saw him blocked 14 shots.
Blocked.
I'm not surprised.
It was insane.
I'm like, what is this?
He was 16.
I think it was the day my son realized basketball.
It's not happening.
Was that, was it on the table before?
When we walked into that gym, he's probably in like, I don't know, sixth or seventh grade
playing AAU, all this stuff.
We walked in, it was an EYBL tournament and I saw a guy who's not even good.
I think he's still playing college basketball named John Bull.
John Bull was like seven foot tall standing in the paint.
I watched him block five shots on one possession and I turned to William and I said, you know,
you would never score on him in life.
And he's like, how, how could you ever score on him?
If he was trying.
I mean, it's just the size of these guys.
I mean, they're just, it's a different world.
You go to an EYBL event and you realize like, bro, this, there's levels to this.
Oh yeah.
And I went and watched Cooper flag and that Joker, I mean, he was the best 16 year old
I've ever seen in my life in person.
All right.
All right.
So this one, my next loves kind of corny, but I do love it.
Weird story.
It seemed like a sort of a PR release.
Um, the Boston Celtics are donating $200 million to the Boston children's hospital.
Right.
That's a lot of money.
Yeah.
And, and I don't really understand how rich people operate their money, but sometimes
they're so philanthropic because like it saves them money on taxes or whatever the hell.
So it might be one of those things, but $200 million for the Boston children's hospital
is awesome.
Amazing.
And they, they put out a,
press release of all things that they're going to do with it, which sounds fantastic. But I also have a
personal story about this my niece eve was born in the boston children's hospital um and god now
she's a freshman in college and like within days they found some sort of heart problem that she
had and she had open heart surgery as like a newborn in the boston children's hospital and
you know i don't know if that happens in other hospitals this is a really well respected like
known as one of the best children's hospitals in the world and like they basically saved my
niece's life because at other hospitals without that kind of care they might not recognize this
condition that you have with their heart and she goes back there every 10 years or whatever and
gets whatever i'm not a doctor but gets whatever in her heart upgraded or whatever's going on
it was just like man i just think it's cool that the celtics are giving 200 million dollars
you know because some owners like i'm not going over the second apron i'm not getting into the
tax i'm not giving away 200 million dollars something
certainly
near and dear to my heart one of the greatest children's hospitals in the world
saint jude is right down the street from where i work every day and but and labonner is as well
both labonner and saint jude and people come from around the world and around the country to stay
there because families never pay a dime to be at saint jude i mean and they have facilities all
over memphis like hotels you can stay in rooms you can be in with the kids and obviously i've
done many events with them and been over to that hospital nothing
will change your perspective on life than going to a children's hospital walking the halls of a
children's hospital nothing nothing nothing will change your life nothing i mean you you all of a
sudden realize how grateful you should be for the way things are going and uh yeah big ups to the
celtics for doing that and big ups to boston children's hospital um my next uh loathe that's
what we're on right okay so i have said this many times and it's a it becomes a blind spot for me
when i listen to people talk about television shows all the time because i rarely i pretty
much just watch sports i'll watch like i watch stuff on youtube i watch golf videos i watch
stuff like that but i don't watch a lot of i don't watch a lot of okay lebron i i watch a lot
of tv shows right that's what i watch or i mean i mean i don't do a lot i don't watch a lot i don't
do a lot of pop culture coverage yeah i don't watch a lot of television shows
i'm watching war i'm watching war right now okay but a high profile divorce in london oh is that
right so anyways that's good i don't watch that much so once nba season gets started i like end
up watching a lot more tv than ever because i watch football all year but like during the
commercials i just play on my phone or whatever i don't pay any attention so now tvs are omnipresent
bro this political ad season i can't take it has anybody ever voted for somebody
because of a political ad i understand like the name awareness of them but holy mackerel i mean
it's like here is what it's like the template is all the same here's what scares you i will fight
for you vote for me and i'm like please just no no rarely is it vote for me it's always like
that other guy sucks yes you know how bad he sucks he wants to kill your children he wants
to murder your dogs he wants to drown
your kittens he's a terrible person look all these terrible things he's did but vote for me
it's never like a positive thing about how you're gonna be a an agent for change in the community
it's always just like the other guy is terrible yes and i just i i sit there and i watch them i'm
like do people watch this and be like you know what i'm gonna go vote for that guy like do they
do that maybe they do maybe i just don't understand the way that like maybe i don't know i don't know
but yeah well i i wish one
time somebody because most people have very little to no faith in politicians for very good reason
right they over promise and under deliver all the time most people feel like it is the people
like there's a political class and then there's the you know then there's the rest of us um and
that yes you might take a side on things but generally your grand belief in politicians is
probably not very strong i think that's what the studies would tell
years ago when i was in college there was a guy that ran for student government association
president right and there was somebody that stood up there and said if i if you make me president
i'll do this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and this and
another guy stands up there and he goes if i if you vote for me this is what needs to happen at
this school i'll do this and this and this and this and this and it's a girl gets up there and
she says if you vote for me i'll do this and then i had a buddy who lived down the hall for me right
and he goes up there and he stands up and he says
we go to school in the south it is appalling that in our school cafeteria we serve nest tea
nest tea is nasty
and i promise you this if you vote me student government we will have real southern sweet tea
in the cafeteria
by next week and 100 of the vote all of it
landslide and i kind of i always think about that's 20 something years ago and i always think
about that i like why doesn't somebody just say look you're gonna hear all these people say
everything here is something that i care about you care about and i can actually make happen
if you vote for me forget about it
get all this other crap if you vote for me this one thing that we can all agree on that you care
about the mcflurry machines will never be broken there will never be a single broken mcflurry
machine in the mcdonald's for my entire run in office here is never here is something that i can
actually promise and actually deliver on and i promise you if you vote for me that will happen
um
i'm telling you it's the mcflurry machines man it's the mcflurry machines i mean there's that's
a great political advice for now i mean people don't necessarily come to the mismatch for the
political uh council but you're not wrong you're distracted in a million different ways yeah there's
100 million things we all want fixed but just give me one thing you for sure know this will happen
if you vote for me yeah i'm on board
and it's like how persuasive did the sweet tea happen the sweet tea happened right
a hundred percent within within a week within a week it's as someone who did not grow up around
sweet tea every time i have it i was like this is this is got a lot of sugar in it i'm like damn
this is very sweet could that be good for you here's the crazy thing and shout out to wes howell
i don't know whatever happened to him i haven't talked to him in 30 years i didn't he very well
may be you know i don't know what happened to him i haven't talked to him in 30 years i don't know
a politician now i don't know he's probably probably he's probably watching his ads he
probably is he's probably a politician but he he did it he did it i still remember his name to this
day because it was that unbelievable great advice it was that great advice yeah all right my next
one go quickly on this one this is just annoying like wednesday night there's so many games there's
like 12 games right so you know i see the comments sometimes like jacoby doesn't watch games like
oh i can't watch every second of 12 games
one night who do you think i am zach low
but then on a night like that i will spend time on thursday sort of like catching up re-watching
watching condensed games or good games or whatever but one of the things i really enjoyed
was on nba.com you click on the box score and if you're like oh like uh whatever you're like
uh mitchell was where just anything oh payton watson was one for eight i'm like you know what
let me go let me look at those eight field goals you can click on the field goal number and see
all eight of payton watson's field goals and you can see all eight of payton watson's field goals
you can't do that anymore and i loathe it you can't do it really it takes you to a shot chart
and it tells you where in the game it happened and what type of shot it was but you can't see
the shot the video doesn't pop up like uh like i saw sabonis had seven turnovers right i'm like
well how did that happen like you know is it ball getting picked from him maybe he's throwing good
passes that people aren't catching let me look at those you used to be able to just click the
seven turnovers and watch the bonuses seven turnovers because i didn't watch the seven
turnovers and watch every second of the pelz kings game i use this as an asset to sort of catch up on
games and things that happen you can't do it anymore i'm gonna click on this is this true
you think i'm lying you're calling me a liar i just you have to fact check i haven't done it
this year well you're not working as hard on the mismatch as i am i guess wouldn't you want to look
at those seven sabonis turnovers just any sort of like big stat yeah on the game you didn't see
shot plot hex map yeah shot no videos heat
and then you can download it and i think it's like oh maybe because the preseason then i was
like well maybe it's just because the first game they haven't got it done yet they're just not
going to do this anymore do you think that the nba.com site should have less video that was a
good tool amazing yeah because i would do it all the time like like like for steph's 44 point game
right i just like oh let me just watch all of his his field goal attempts i didn't even realize this
this is appalling this is appalling i'm looking at it right now i'm looking at it right now i'm
looking at it right now i know this is appalling i'm gonna write a strongly word email what
happened
happened here? To Bill Simmons, who's going to forward it
to the NBA. Did they sell it to somebody
or something? Or is it. Bro, I have no
idea. I have no idea. Oh, so now you got to get
like your Synergy account
or something to watch these now? Oh, no!
No! Furno, here's what it is.
If you vote for me,
I will guarantee
that every stat in the
box score on NBA.com
will feature videos
as it has for the last few years.
If you vote for me, I guarantee that will
happen within a week.
I mean. Now I'm a senator. It's a landslide.
It's a landslide. It's a landslide victory.
Alright. Alright, let's finish up.

Last
love.
Yeah.
Ernie Johnson getting to go out on his own terms.
So, obviously
I am a huge Inside
the NBA fan, as is everybody.
I mean, it's the
hallmark show of the league.
If you are a big
NBA fan, it's
sad to see, you know, I'm glad, or Ernie
Johnson said, like, look, I said when
I wasn't going to be able to prepare
the way I want to be able
to prepare, and he's gone through health problems.
He's 70 years old.
But very rarely
do you get to see somebody go out, like,
on top, on their own
terms, right? Usually
the ending is not great. And so
I'm going to put this in my loves, because
I love, love
Ernie Johnson.
He is exactly,
what everybody
says he is.
I mean, I don't know how many people you have to
see stand up, and you saw Charles
give his emotional speech the other
night about, people ask me all
the time, is he really as nice as
people say he is?
Ernie Johnson's a legend, and
everybody in the broadcasting community
and every fan,
like, I would say his
Q score rating is as high as any
broadcaster ever.
Honestly.
And nothing would be worse
than to see it, like, all end
abruptly, or, you know, how
scared we were when the TNT thing
was going down, or whatever,
and, or for him to, like,
lose it, and then people
watching it and be like, man,
he ain't, it ain't like
it used to be. Like, you see this happening a lot
with broadcasters, especially as
they age, right?
I was watching a little bit of Marv
call his last games, and it
was like, hmm, maybe time.
Well, you see it,
now, guess who else was
universally beloved? And I, you know,
look, he's always going to have a special, it's Al Michaels,
but you see people criticizing Al Michaels
every Thursday night.
He's still good, though. Every Thursday night, though, it's like,
you know, and it's like, his heart
ain't in it like it used to be, or he
ain't like it. And it's like,
Ernie Johnson is, like, as sharp
as ever, and is going to get to go
out on his own terms,
and as an NBA fan,
obviously,
I,
I love,
loathe that I will not, like, that show
is never going to be
like it has been for so
many years. But, I mean, he has been a,
for anybody that loves that league, he's been a mainstay
for 27 years of my
life. And
good for you, man. Go
and live the happiest life
that you can have.
Everybody's going to miss watching him
on that show, but I do love
the story of a guy, he's
getting, he's getting to say,
I'm done after this.
And most people don't get to do that.
Most people get told. Yeah, and I'm sure they're trying
to offer more money, or saying, well, we'll
reduce the days, or whatever.
I'm sure they're, it's
usually not that way. No, most people
get told they're done. Yeah,
exactly. And he's telling them, no, thank
you. And I just want to say this on that
topic. I'm not convinced that Charles Barkley
is done. Maybe not. I'm just not convinced. Maybe not.
I'm not convinced. I'm not convinced.
Maybe not.
Alright, my last love.
Where is it in my. my notes? Right here.
I'll make this one quick.
Yeah, the courts look stupid.
Yeah, the whole tournament's kind of useless
and not for anything, but I love
NBA Cup, and the NBA Cup's coming back tonight.
Why? I don't know. Why do I love it?
Because, what do you always say?
If the players care, I care. Yep.
And they try a little harder, and the point
differential thing is weird, and makes them
like, play harder, and
like, make the blowout bigger, even when they're
up by 25, and it's just
funner to watch than a regular old game,
it's additive, and I like it.
It's silly, it's stupid, it's pointless.
I get it. I still like it. I'm excited
about the NBA Cup. Also, a year ago,
predictive.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Also, the year before,
the Pacers
ended up in the finals.
Yep. Like, I mean, it has. The teams that have performed
in the NBA Cup have actually
certainly been able to. Mitchell Robinson got 11 offensively.
Defensive rebounds in the NBA Cup.
Amazing. I mean, the Lakers
were outstanding in the first NBA Cup.
Yeah. I mean. Yeah. It's fun.
It's fun. And
most of the. What we have seen is
many that have performed
extremely well in the NBA Cup
have proven to be able to perform playoff-wise.
That's a good point.
They're not. It's not always like, you know,
the same team in the finals. No. The same team in the finals.
The same team wins, wins. It's not always like that, but it's usually like. It's usually not fluky. Like, oh, guess what? The Hornets
are the champions. These guys
do care about winning it. Yes.
They do. And then they can. And that makes
me care. Yes.
And then they can. I'm for it. Then they can
stick their fingers in each other's butts.
Because that's what happened when your team won last year.
God damn it. That happened. That happened.
You can't take that away.
You should Josh Hart dress square
up to Jared Jack. Amazing.
Josh Hart is hilarious.
He is legitimately funny.
He really is.
All right. Last load.
The pitcher
of Porzingis getting new teeth
in Spain.
What the hell? No story
is crazier than. Also,
look, we covered this before
the season started. I was like, this is the
weirdest thing ever. Right?
I've never seen an NBA
story like this. Then we
fast forward, and I go back, and I
tell you, all right, I'm going to deep dive on
this. And then they said, well, he's
Atlanta. Oh, he's got
pots. And then I go
and find that clip of last year,
Steve Kerr giving this impassioned
speech. It's not pots.
It's not pots. I called the Atlanta
GM. He doesn't have
pots. Right? And then
you have Chris S. Porzingis
tweeting out, I don't have
AIDS. And then
there's a story of
that's not
funny. He said, I don't have
AIDS. That's funny. You can't
say him tweeting, I don't have
AIDS at the end of a tweet is
not funny. Like, take that back. That is
funny. So then
you have Golden
State wants to trade him, and he's
probably going to retire.
No, before that, it's like
Steve Kerr, like, do you know where
Chris Dapps is? He's like, yes,
he's
around, you know,
you don't know where he is.
He's also, like, not reporting to the team.
So then, but then they say, no,
he's at the facility, and
then they say, no,
we want to trade him, and
he's probably going to retire.
So if anybody wants to retire,
you know, if anybody wants to trade for
a guy that's going to retire,
and can't play, and we just signed to an
extension yesterday, and then
the
story turns to
he's got pots.
And he's
nowhere around the facility is not
reporting, like, unexcused absence. And
then
a pitcher from Marabella,
Spain, with a dentist that posts
always
always
what is it?
I don't know. I didn't memorize
the dentist tweet. That's your job.
It's like, always great to treat
a champion or something.
And it's like a dentist with
Porzingis and his new teeth.
Of course, because he's got new teeth.
He's got these huge white teeth, and he's
smiling as big as he can, because he's
kind of, you know, he promises the dentist he'll get
a discount if he posts it or whatever. So
now he's in Spain in the
dentist chair with pots,
and the Warriors are like, why aren't you
at the facility trying to get back on the court?
Look,
this guy has been a never-ending
source of news. Please,
please
Instagram a picture of you
smiling that says, I have new teeth,
not AIDS.
What is
going on?
This is
the weirdest course of events.
Is there not someone in his life that's like,
hey, man, let's just keep a low profile.
Tell the dentist that you'll post a picture in a month or two
when things settle down.
Also, how
did you wait until the
NBA season started?
You just had forever off.
Why are you in Spain
getting new teeth and allowing
this guy to post? This all
just, nothing is more bizarre.
No idea. Nothing is more bizarre
than the whole. Porzingis News Cycle.
It's crazy
I don't know what could be next
Is he going to score 40 in the big three or something?
I don't know what happens next
And you mentioned
Adding to all this
They signed him to an extension
Yes
A commitment to a player
Who's rarely available
Percentage of cap, yes
Yeah, and committing
Being like, we need you, we want you
We're committing to you, extending your contract
Nothing
Nothing is more
The trade thing is crazy
He's on the market
It's like, okay
Anybody want to trade for a guy with POTS?
Or that might retire?
Oh, it's also
He's not going to be available because of POTS
And probably not a couple weeks because his teeth hurt
So give him some time
I mean
That's crazy
Especially waiting until the season
Starts
The whole thing is just so confusing
I don't understand
I don't understand
All right, last loathe
All right, I have a last loathe
It's short and a bonus one
You know, we're watching a lot of NBA games
And I'm not saying that they need to wear suits
But I really hate that all the coaches
Wear the same quarter zip
I just don't like that it's like
A quarter zip uniform
I've never been a quarter zip fan
I want to apologize to the Manning brothers
I want to apologize to all the finance bros
In New York City
I've never been a quarter zip guy
Partially because I'm not a quarter zip guy
I have large poofy nipples
And they stick out when I wear a quarter zip
But that's more of a me problem
But I'm not saying they need to wear suits
But just a little variety
I don't know
There's something about
Is it the casual
And also is it the casualness of it?
It's also that they're all wearing
The exact same pants and sneakers
It's something like oompa loompa-ish about it
It's just like a little too
Like school uniform-y for me
You know what I mean?
Very athleisure
Yeah, and it's like
Maybe like a button-up
I don't know
Like on a random Wednesday
I shouldn't be more dressed up
Than an NBA head coach
That's all
You know?
I don't have the solution
I think
There's more variety and freedom
We need the coach that's willing to
Buck the trend
And we either need it to go one of two ways
Maybe
Mizzoula seems like the guy that would do this
He just wouldn't wear a shirt
No, no
He's just not wearing a shirt
No, a hoodie
No, a hoodie
Wear the hoodie
I thought
That's what I was thinking
I was thinking about football coaches
Yeah, wear like
Because they have a lot of different weather
That they have to deal with
So there's a lot of variance on football coaches
You could either go hoodie
Or
I mean the king move would be
To wear like the suit
Like you remember that 49ers coach
That started showing up
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Mike Nolan
He started showing up
No, Drew does this really well
Because on Saturday mornings
I turn on like the English Premier League
Those coaches do it really well
They're always wearing like
Business caps
Casual but tailored
Fit perfect
You know what I mean
With some slacks
Yes
And they're not wearing suit and tie
But they're not like in quarter zips
Like they're just like
Going to the gym on a Sunday morning
I'm with you
I think the answer is either
Be more formal
Or way more casual
Like I wish Mizzoula would show up
In like a hoodie
Like a gold gym
No, no
Like a Celtics hoodie
And Celtics sweatpants
You know what I mean
Oh no
A hoodie and sweatpants
Hoodie and shorts
I like a hoodie and shorts look
Perfect
That's always a good look for the fall
Yes
Yeah
I think either
I think
I'm a fan of like business cash
You can wear anything
It doesn't even have to have a logo on it
It's just like
A little something better
Like a
I think
Let's look at the
Soccer coaches in Europe
Something like that
I'm with you
Let's go do it for another
Oh, I got
No, no
I got one bonus
Oh
Halloween is tomorrow
And it's a little sad
Because I used to love Halloween
When I was in my 20s
Man
Like I used to go out
Like a weekend like this
In New York City
When it lands on Saturday
I would go out
To like a nightclub on Friday
Until four in the morning
And then another nightclub
On Saturday
Until four in the morning
Me and Kevin Wilds
Created the best Halloween costume
In the history of Halloween costumes
It
We
We rented a stanchion
A velvet rope
And I had a clipboard
With a bunch of costume names on it
And names
And he was a bouncer
And we would just set it up
In the middle of like a dance floor
In a nightclub
And people would come up to us
Thinking that we're a VIP section
And try to talk their way
Past the velvet rope
It's amazing
So
And then we would open it
And let them through
And they would get through
And kind of realize
That there's no VIP section
And that there was just a costume
Like we were like fooling people
And you also end up talking
To every single person in the party
We would walk the streets
Just put it out on the sidewalk
We put it outside of McDonald's
One time
And just let everybody in
When they walked up
It was the best costume
I used to love this weekend
This would be so much fun
And now all I can think about is
When can we
Be done with trick-or-treating
How do I get rid of all this candy
The kids are going to want
To do different things
And like
It's just going to be a mess
And it just sort of like
Now it's just work
It's just work now
What are your kids?
We've got
Like
Like sort of
Like Emperor Palpatine's crew
The
In Star Wars
Like bad guys
The Republic I think they're called
Or whatever
He's sort of like
An admiral in the Republic
My son
And then we've got
A
My daughter always
Is very creative
Last year
She was a Starbucks employee
Which was great
She had like the apron
And the hat
Amazing
And this year
She is the
The Monopoly man
Amazing
But she's got her own twist on it
She kind of looks like a rocket
Kind of
It's just like
And my other twin
Is a mummy
And the baby is Grogu
Perfect
And I got this thing
I have
I ordered it online
And I got this thing
A mask
With my wife's face on it
So it's like a
Like that see-through
Sort of like pantyhose thing
And it's got my wife's face on it
And I'm going to like
Dress kind of crazy
Like she would
And I'm going to be my wife
I don't think it's going to go over great
She's already not really into it
But that's what I'm going with
I asked my daughter
When I picked her up from basketball
The other night
I said so what
What's the Halloween costume this year?
You know
I'm expecting like
You know
She's 13
So maybe she's a little too cool
For school now right?
We're probably out of like
The whole bluey
Or being something like
Like that
Whatever
I was like
So what are you doing for
What are you going to be for Halloween?
She's like
I'm a robber
I was like
Okay
Alright
I don't know
I was like why?
She's like what?
What could go wrong?
Yeah
I was like alright
And I think my son is like
He is
He is going to be too cool for school
He's at that age
Where all the boys
Will probably just wear jerseys
You know what I mean?
Oh yeah
I saw a lot of those
Yeah
I was like you're really not trying
They put the eye black
That's what they do
It's like a
A lion's jersey and eye black
Like I'm a football player
It's like okay
That's what they do
They just end up putting on a jersey
Or something
But yeah
She's got a mask
And it's going to be a robber
I'm like oh great
Great
Okay
Whatever
I'm done
I don't even want to talk about it anymore
I'm going to Grizzlies Kings
Do whatever you want
You're going to get blown out
By the kids in the Pelicans
Alright
It's good
It's good
It's good
That's it for another episode of The Mismatch
Thanks to Jesse, Liz, and Steph as always

Summary:
FAQs
Major depressive disorder is a mental health condition characterized by persistent sadness and loss of interest. Brian Dawkins lived with it for years, initially feeling alone and unable to cope, but ultimately sought help and support through professional care.
Caplyta (lumateperone) is a medication approved for adults with major depressive disorder when used with an antidepressant. It helps provide greater relief from symptoms by building on progress made with existing treatment.
Common side effects of Caplyta include sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, fatigue, and diarrhea. These effects are not all possible, and patients should consult their doctor for full information.
Patients using Caplyta have an increased risk of death or stroke, and may experience high cholesterol, weight gain, or high blood sugar. These can be life-threatening or permanent, and require close medical monitoring.
If you notice new or sudden mood changes, unusual behaviors, or suicidal thoughts, contact your doctor immediately. Antidepressants can increase these risks.
The Memphis Grizzlies have an undefeated start to the season, going 5-0 and 4-0 on the road. They are known for a deep, coordinated team style that relies on multiple players creating scoring opportunities.
