Love Triangle Murder Twist: Teens Thrown Back in Jail

The case of 16-year-old Trey Wright, who was shot to death in South Carolina in June 2025, continues to draw national attention. Nine teenagers are facing murder charges, with only one having a firearm. Prosecutors argue that three suspects—Braylon Thompson, Jaden Eau Claire, and Hunter Kendall—violated their bond conditions by leaving house arrest and committing new minor offenses, including DUIs and animal cruelty. Thompson and Eau Claire were specifically charged with failing to appear for court and violating curfews, prompting prosecutors to request the revocation of their bonds. The defense claims the case is politically motivated, citing lack of evidence, timing near an election, and poor courtroom conduct. Trey’s family has urged the court to revoke bonds, asserting the suspects show a pattern of disregard for the law. Gianna Kistenmacher, accused of orchestrating the fatal meeting, remains on bond and has asked to loosen monitoring and curfew restrictions. The prosecution maintains that all suspects, including juveniles, should be held accountable due to the broader issue of youth violence. While the exact timeline for trial remains unclear, authorities emphasize that justice is not years away. The case highlights tensions between leniency in juvenile justice and the need for accountability in violent incidents involving minors.

Three of the nine teenagers facing murder charges in the death of 16-year-old Trey Wright are back in court, one of them even yawning, moments before prosecutors argued they need to have their bond revoked. I think it displays the total disregard of both the party and the court with regards to openly violating the special editions of the police. All but one of the suspects in this case have been living free, out on bond, but prosecutors argued that needs to change. Choice Hotels get you more of what you value. Because allegedly some of the teens have not been holding up their end of the deal. And today, we just got a major update on that as family continues to mourn the loss of a young man shot to death on a South Carolina road more than a year ago. We're on the case presented by Law and Crime. I'm Chris Stewart. The case of Trey Wright has been getting a lot of attention and not just because of the tragic allegations that his own girlfriend orchestrated his murder because she was hanging out with another guy who's the alleged trigger man in Trey Wright's death. But you have nine teenagers facing charges that could potentially put them in prison for the rest of their lives. And three of those teenagers were in court this week. Two of them accused of violating their bond conditions and one of them with an interesting request that we'll get to. We got nine people charged with murder. Only one of which had firearms. That person was detained. And somehow there was an alleged conspiracy that caused a bunch of juveniles, which kind of gave rise to some of the decision making that we're here for today. I mean, in my opinions, a lot of this is how politically motivated. This is just part of a fiery exchange that attorneys had in the courtroom. The defense attorney for suspect Braylon Thompson claimed that the case against his client and the case in general is politically motivated. And the prosecutor took offense to that. Now we'll break down the new charges that Thompson allegedly picked up as he has been out on bond and supposed to be on house arrest, which prosecutors are not happy about. But let's get you caught up on how we got to this point. This is a story that centers around the young man you see here, 16-year-old Trey Wright. His friends tell us that he was life of the party, kind of person who had your back. He would be there for you. You wanted to be around him. You like to have fun. This is the last post that he had on TikTok. He's dancing with a friend on a dirt road and the caption reads, I'm just a girl. No, you're the reason I wake up and smile every day. It's unclear if this is the girl that he was talking about in that post, Gianna Kistenmacher. She was allegedly his girlfriend on the night that he died. And she is the one who was accused of orchestrating this meetup that led to Trey Wright's death. Kistenmacher was in court in March. And she is facing a charge of murder. And we also have learned that she was reportedly in court this week. She is out on bond. And her attorney asked for some of her conditions to be eased. She reportedly wants to be taken off of GPS monitoring, no longer have an overnight curfew, and be allowed to get back on social media. WPDE also reports that Kistenmacher goes to college near where she lives right now. She lives at home, but she wants to apply to other schools and be able to live in college housing. The judge has yet to rule on those requests. But let's get back to June 24th, 2025 in Florence County, South Carolina. It's late at night. It's around 1130. It's dark. And deputies respond to a shooting. And they needed to get there fast. When they arrived, they found 16-year-old Trey on the ground. He was fighting for his life. As soon as I came out the doors, he was already lying in the middle of the road. My dad was over top of him. He wasn't really performing CPR because he had seen that Trey got shot kind of where his lungs were. I spoke to Trey's friend. This is someone who was like a sister to her. Her name is Jasmine. And she told me that she was there the night that Trey died. In fact, she and her dad were trying to save Trey when first responders got there. All I could do was just go to Trey's side. He was gurgling and mumbling like he was trying to talk, but I had to kind of tell him that he was okay. And if things was going to be okay, then he didn't need to try and say anything. He just needed to try and breathe and stay awake for us. Trey was rushed to the hospital and that is where he was pronounced dead. He had been shot twice in the chest. Authorities say this is the man who fired the shot that killed Trey Wright, Devin Raper. And he's the only one of the suspects who has been in jail since his last year. Now, Raper and Wright, they knew of each other. In fact, to an extent, they might have considered each other. Friends, new friends, but they followed each other on social media. On the night that Trey died, though, they were at odds, according to police, and it was over a girl, Gianna Kistenmacher. Deputies say that Trey, he didn't have a chance encounter with Devin Raper. They are alleging that this was a planned confrontation and it was fueled by provocative Snapchat messages. Deputies also say there are recordings of this confrontation. So this is something that happened in front of the police. So this is something that happened in front of people. We haven't seen those recordings. They haven't been made publicly available. Now, deputies believe the person who shot and killed Trey Wright was in a white Mazda SUV. There were four people in the vehicle. The shooter wore a ski mask, they say, and the shooter had a gun. Deputies say when Trey Wright saw that SUV, he walked up to it. He banged on the door. Someone opened the door and the shots were fired. Deputies eventually tracked Devin Raper down. They put him under arrest. They say he is the one who fired the shots. This was an interesting moment, though, that happened when Raper first faced a judge last year. This is per WBTW. I did not do none of this. There was four more people. I'm not here to try. I did. I understand that. I'm not here to try a date, but you could speak to law enforcement. Raper may be the one who authorities believe fired the gun. But detectives in this case, they have cast a wide net and in a unique way. They have said that they are pushing for the youngest suspect. They are pushing for the youngest suspect. I wrote a little song to remind you, Choice Hotels gets you more of the experiences you value. The Cambria Hotels got it all. A rooftop bar, have a ball. But the associate's friends who assisted him in getting there, whether providing transportation, location, they could all be charged with the same, you know, the same amount of money. So, you know, it's a lot of money. So, you know, crime as the actual perpetrator is often seen in cases like gun possession. If a gun is in the vehicle or drugs and being in the vehicle, it's not often that's used in a situation like a murder in this case. But the prosecutors here charge most of the teenagers involved with murder, absolutely the same as the perpetrator. And it seems to be that they're trying to get ahead of some of the problems that we're seeing with youth violence, gun crime amongst younger people. And then you've got the social media, you've got the social media, you've got the social media, the social media aspect of it between some of the FaceTime videos, social media contact. And it looks like kids not taking these things seriously, but you have somebody who lost their life and the court showing everybody involved that this is serious and needs to stop. That's South Carolina defense attorney, Tyler Bailey. He has been following this case. Now bond has also been a point of contention in this case as it has worked its way through the legal system. It has been more than a year since Trey Wright's murder and none of the suspects have gone to trial. Trey's family's been frustrated that some of them have been accused of violating their bond conditions and making requests to have their restrictions loosened. And we saw three suspects in court this week, Braylon Thompson, Jaden Eau Claire and Hunter Kendall Thompson and Eau Claire. Their cases were called at the same time. Prosecutors argued that they violated their bond conditions and both of them have been on house arrest. Now we noticed before the case was called, Eau Claire was in the I want to remind you of this picture that a source sent us. It is a Snapchat post that Thompson allegedly made after he and Eau Claire posted $20,000 bonds following their arrests on murder charges. This was in the summer of 2025 in August, and the picture shows they're outside the Florence County Detention Center, and there's a caption that reads, quote, I am free with a racial slur that I certainly am not going to say, but that slur begins with the letter N. Now, when we saw this picture, we really wanted to know if this was actually real, right? So we contacted the local sheriff, sent the photo, and they told us they were aware of this post. In court this week, prosecutors say Eau Claire and Thompson, who have been on house arrest, have been arrested on separate crimes since their bond was granted. With regards to what brings to the key of the day, with regards to Mr. Eau Claire, he was arrested on. September 26, 2026 in Horry County for driving under the infamous first offense. Mr. Thompson was arrested in Horry County, a lead that was on sometime after he was released, but at any rate, he was charged subsequently with malicious injury to animals, personal property, injury of value $2,000 or less, driving under suspension and failing to appear after release for a misdemeanor. Again, your honor, both of these individuals were awarded house arrest. Both of these individuals were elsewhere where they should have been home at the time of their arrest. And on top of that, both of them, while it may seem like a misdemeanor fairly innocuous, but again, at least one of them was charged with an incident involving alcohol while they should have been home on house arrest. And again, these charges are murder that both of these individuals are facing. Again, I think it displays the common disregard of the authority of the court with regards to openly violating the special conditions of the police. And again, these are two young individuals. Thank you. They would be home again, thanking God that they were allowed to go home rather than be sitting at the county detention center. But instead, they were outbreaking the law and they were not under house arrest as they were ordered to by the court. For those reasons, your honor, we're asking that bond be respectfully revoked for both of these individuals and they remain in custody until this matter is brought to trial. Police say that Thompson was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty and driving on a suspended license and then Eau Claire allegedly got a DUI in September. Let's talk about Thompson first. His attorney had a lot to say. His attorney attacked the fact that his client is facing a charge in the first place. And watch this. Watch how the prosecutor responds to that. This case is probably the greatest abuse across their tutorial discretion I've seen since I was practicing. We got nine people charged with murder, only one of which had a firearm. And somehow there's an alleged conspiracy. It's even called the bunch of juveniles, which kind of made a rise to some of the decision making that we're here for today. I mean, in my opinions, a lot of this is how it's politically motivated. We've had these hearings this week on the precipice of the election. Your honor, I will explain to you that there's any basis for that and he's going off-kilter because of the presence of two cameras. But I don't think there's any basis, in fact, for that statement. And I resent it. And I would ask the court to report it. I'm happy if you resent it. The prosecutor on the stand said this. All right. We're not going to hear each other. Okay. I'm going to hear from them and I'll hear from you in a second. Thank you, Judge. Now, you can see that the upcoming election was brought up and the lead prosecutor on the case, according to the defense, wasn't even in court because he's on a podcast. Thompson's attorney then turned his argument as to why his client should not have his bond taken away. As it relates to my clients. I know for the record that just this bond order was prior to my appointment, and I'm used to dealing with juveniles. I would you've not entered some of the parameters that we're putting here were probably just not there. I think they were well considered, but they there was not enough information before the court to set these parameters at the time. My client was a resident of Orange County at the time. He was living with his sister and going to school. That was because there were some. You know, uh, family issues that were going on with his father and stepmother. That's why he was living there. Uh, he was 17 at the time, even not 18, but of course, as since it was a Murray, you could be charged as an adult without a juvenile receipt said in that regard, the court said that he needed to live at 2038 Swamp Fox East Highway Taper City. That, uh, but notice the court, that was a temporary residence of my client's carriers. And I don't think the court knew that or they would have. They would have ordered him to remaining because they subsequently moved back to their permanent residence in white North Carolina and secondly, judge, it says that you shouldn't leave the residence there for court school or school activities. Well, when you're charged with a felony, you know, you can go to school, uh, you're all I wrote a little song to remind you choice hotels get you more of the experiences you've had the Cambria hotels got it all a rooftop bar. If you have a pending bill now in South Carolina, you are afforded the opportunity to have interventional education. But he was required to move to North Carolina. When he got there, there was a lot of confusion over whether or not he could even attend school. And plus, he moved, so the districts changed. And in anticipation of this proceeding, Judge, I contacted Columbus County Schools in North Carolina, spoke with the interventional coordinator. And they advised me that my client can, because he does want to finish school. In fact, he has to become a commercial welder, underwater welder. But he can't go on campus with Patrick. He's going to go to a local college due to the same issues related to pending felony. The felony that is just an egregious abuse of respect. So, in this regard, Judge, we spoke to Viv, and they said that he can apply, and then they'll have a joint meeting with the school district to determine what interventions he can have, which could be remote school, homebound, or he would just simply attempt to get his GED. Those are his options, Judge, and these are options that have been pressed upon him. Due to this pending felony. So, as it relates to the incident that was involved, when my client, when I found out that he had been charged, when this motion was filed, Judge, it was filed on September 23rd, and was blindly emailed to me on October 6th, telling me I had court on October 26th. Telling me, not asking me, telling me. I got multitudes of bond wearings pending this, like months and months only, that we hadn't heard before this court. Yet, they can call and tell me. That's what I was supposed to be, on the 26th. Now, they knew because I told them that we were out of town, and I told them we'll hear it this week. But, there was no contact. And so, we had limited amount of time to figure out what we could do here. I spoke to my client, and I could have guessed what had happened with this malicious injury of personal property. So, again, Judge, not trying to step away from the fact that my client was not his home, but again, due to some family relationship issues, there needed to be a decompression period. So, he left his family's home, because now he's 18. You know, when you're 17, the state can require you to live in your own home. The parent's obligation and duties. It is their obligation, or they could be subject to PSS and child abuse and neglect situation. But, at this time, he was 18. So, they allow him to go back to his sister's house, where, temporarily, so there'd be a decompression period. And, he'd been communicating and "staying" a young lady, depending on where he's carrying her. Well, that young lady, sadly, found out who Mr. Thompson was. So, they must have Googled him and found out he had a pending murder charge against him. And, they told her she had to break up with him. And, these young kids, that typically can't control themselves, regardless of what's going on, regardless of what type of charges are pending against them. And, he banged on the windshield of a vehicle that she wasn't even in. The young lady was not in it. And, it was the end of the daytime, it was not out in about a night. They had gone to lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Horry County, and it was approximately 2 o'clock in the afternoon. And, she broke up with him because of this, and he banged on the windshield and craved him off the ground. So, she wasn't in the vehicle. It's not a domestic situation. But, the parents are the ones who, air quotes, "pressed the charges" due to the injury of the vehicle. That's the issue we're talking about. So, again, he's. She's been pressed upon him to the point where now he's going to be engaged in counseling because he quite obviously can't code. with the situation we call the practice that's surrounding and this is not to trap in the family that's the decedent family it's just simply talking about what's going on with my club so he is going to he is attempting to get into seoul he is entering into counseling and we proposed this morning gps to the state um as a possible resolution and we're flat out told no they don't need to go to do so again abusive discretion the state wants my client there's not even a principle in this case go sit in jail for a multitude of years until we finally get to this case not to mention the fact there's got to be a standard ground hearing support related to this and then where are they going to go but so you know i think it's it's just an absolutely absolute trap see that we're here sitting here talking about sending my client to jail for many years before they get to this case be tried because he committed what all accounts is a a dope decision and they have been prevented had um there been some a little bit additional consideration passed to the parameters for the bond so in order to assuage the port's concerns we are asking for to modify this board require him to remain in the household as borders it won't specifically upon house of us then do so this is how the prosecutor responded most of what he said is beneath a response it's beneath contempt but i will say this your honor i am arguing this motion today my capacity as a deputy solicitor and the officer of the court and i'm not running for anything i wouldn't be making this argument if i didn't think there was a good faith basis for so doing uh your honor the only reason that we has nothing to do with a little race it has nothing to do with politics is because these two individuals were given a bond and there was no complaining about the terms and conditions when bond was set they both agreed to be bound by their terms and they did not honor it they both left their homes when they were not supposed to under house arrest and they both committed additional criminal charges you wonder that is concerning to this prosecutor and i dare say would be concerning to any prosecutor who had any involvement in this case whatsoever as for eclair who allegedly got a dui last month this is what his attorney had to say mr eclair is 18 years old your honor as uh as mr edwards said when with his lease charges happened he couldn't return to school so he completed his schooling online he graduated high school in june of 2026 his mother supplied me with a diploma i'd be happy to provide it to your honor his mother grittney chuck had with father stanley eclair are present in the courtroom in support of him your honor he lives in wars with his mother he wants to study he wants to work he wants to be a productive member of society your honor i've i've represented davy from the beginning and this case has been baffling i i know we're here today because a young man is it and and i understand it is completely tragic i have gone through a good bit of the discovery i say most of the discovery the state is provided anyway and i had a preliminary hearing less than a month ago where i got i investigator worsley agreed with me that there's no evidence other than mr eclair's near presence that implicates him in his crime and so choice hotels get you more of what you value here's a little tune to help you remember same drive different day don't you wish you were getting away he has had no affiliation with his co-defendants since this happened he is trying to do his best to care and i understand he gets to do it your honor i would respectfully ask you to consider how do you come on an ankle monitor he would abide by any more severe conviction to bond he is just after the honor that he not go to jail and he would he would gladly wear it longer and do anything else with requirement that he said the judge determined that Eau Claire and Thompson would be taken into custody. And today we learned their bonds have been revoked. According to the local sheriff who spoke to WMBF television, here they are in the Florence County Jail's inmate list. At the hearing, Trey Wright's aunt also made a statement to the court. Good day. My name is Angela Altman. I'm an aunt to Trey Wright. I have two of them. I'd like to start by thanking the court for hearing our concerns regarding Braylon Thompson today. Braylon Thompson has repeatedly shown disregard for our court system and our laws. Not only is Braylon out on bond for murder, he has gained new charges of malicious injury to animals while driving under a suspended license and has no regard to show up for that bond hearing. Therefore, we, the family of Trey Wright, are requesting to revoke Braylon Thompson's bond until trial based on his continued bad behavior and lack of judgment. We, the family of Trey Wright, are requesting to revoke Braylon Thompson's bond until trial based on his continued bad behavior and lack of judgment. Therefore, we, the family of Trey Wright, are asking the court not to allow this continued behavior among our citizens because Braylon has proven more than once that he cannot or will not abide by the laws. We, the family of Trey Wright, also acknowledge the fact that parents only have so much influence and that's why we were asking the court for understanding our position in this matter. Thank you, Your Honor, for hearing our concerns and allowing to have a voice on this day for our lost loved one. Now, I'd also like to start by saying thank you to the court for hearing our concerns regarding Jaden Eclair today. Jaden Eclair has a less severe crime of driving under the influence under age while being out on bond for murder, but we, the family of Trey Wright, believe this behavior will lead to more severe crimes based on the past lifted restrictions and the lack of punishments for the other defendants in these cases has proven that all of these defendants have no issues breaking our laws, feeling untouchable because there are no consequences to their actions. We, the family of Trey Wright, are requesting the denial for him to go to jail because of his continued bad behavior. We, the family of Trey Wright, understand that it does not always take a gun to end a life. We also understand that the parents can only implement so much to teenagers. That's why we are requesting the court to help prevent further issues by giving the simplest punishments to Jaden Eclair for everyone's safety until trial of Trey Wright. Thank you again for hearing our families' concerns. We, the family of Trey Wright, understand that the parents can only implement so much to teenagers. We, the family of Trey Wright, are requesting the court to help prevent further issues by giving the simplest punishments to Jaden Eclair for everyone's safety until trial of Trey Wright. just did it came back everything was fine so in this year we don't have the consent but we're basically asking for the same thing the state consented to last year to temporarily let that monitoring process take place with his parents again I'm suggesting that having mom and stepdad there to supervise him is better than him sitting with no supervision here in Ory County with grandparents out of town he has been in full compliance this has been over he actually started the monitor September 25th of last year so we're now 13 months right at it I think all over 13 months of his monitoring with no problems no violations no motions to revoke and again this is something that last year he did by consent and I don't think there's an objection we just don't have a consent to allow him to do that and this is I don't think in my motion but in speaking to my clients morning he would like now his restrictions in every county are he's work home or choice hotels get you more of what you value comfort in it's calling your name save on the stain oh and free waffles are yours to claim book direct at stores hotels calm this holiday all plans even unlimited are just fifteen dollars a month a holiday all plans even unlimited are just fifteen dollars a month a holiday deal this good obviously deserves an enormously expensive holiday song like all I want right okay we can afford that you don't forget the music budget we're gonna stick with whatever's in the public domain give it a try at mint mobile comm slash switch upfront payment of $45 for three months $90 for six months or $180 for 12 month plan required $15 per month equivalent taxes and fees extra new customer offer for initial plan term only greater than 50 gigabytes may slow when network is busy see terms he would like the opportunity to go to church with his grandparents here in every county so according to his attorney he wants to spend time with his mom and stepdad for two weeks during the holiday season to this point he has been living with his grandparents Trey Wright's aunt also made a statement opposing that motion but the judge granted it pointing out that hunter Kendall has not violated his bond conditions for 13 months and he also approved the request for him to go to church with his grandparents now it's unclear what will come next in this case we do know that Gianna Kistenmacher has signed a proper agreement with authorities now this isn't immunity or a plea deal but it's a written agreement that means that she will speak with authorities provide information answer questions and those statements cannot be used against her in court the prosecutor yesterday said in court that resolutions to this case are not years away but it is unclear when it comes to the timeline how long it will be until trials happen if they happen in this case and how long it will be for justice to potentially be served in the death of Trey Wright that will do it for on the case presented by law and crime I'm Chris Stewart we'll see you next time

Nine teenagers are currently facing murder charges in connection with the death of Trey Wright. Only one of them had a firearm, and the rest are charged under broader allegations of involvement in a conspiracy.

Prosecutors are seeking to revoke bond for suspects like Braylon Thompson and Jaden Eau Claire because they allegedly violated their house arrest conditions by leaving their homes and committing new minor offenses, such as DUIs and animal cruelty charges.

Gianna Kistenmacher, Trey's alleged girlfriend, is requesting to be removed from GPS monitoring, to have her overnight curfew lifted, and to be allowed to return to social media and attend college housing.

Braylon Thompson’s defense attorney claimed the case is politically motivated, especially given its timing near an election. The prosecutor denied this, stating there is no political basis and that the charges stem from real violations of bond conditions.
