Hello, my name is Zidal and you are so welcome to the very first episode of the live welcher. This is something I've wanted to do for so long. Each week I'll be walking or hiking with a new guest having real honest conversations about life balance and what it truly means to live well. I couldn't think of a better first guest than Jodie Kaffee, the beautiful journalist from her. Jodie, thank you so much for being a very first guest for the live welcher. For anyone who may not know Jodie, would you like to introduce yourself? There are many who don't know me, I'm sorry, but my name is Jodie Kaffee. I am a journalist most recently with her that IE as a content creator. So Jodie, because you've had such a busy lifestyle with her.ai, doing content creating and social media, did you face any challenges? Did you struggle with your mindset or did you struggle with trying to get into routine or was there anything that you dealt with or you faced? That was very difficult. Believe it or not, before I went into her or I was extremely shy, anxiety-ridden, like I told myself on the first day of that job, say yes to everything, and then they'll believe you can do anything basically. So it was all about kind of like almost faking it till you make it, but it actually worked and it helped me to grow and I really just came out of myself and surprised myself so much because if you had said to me three years ago or even two years ago that you'd be out in the streets, stew in boxpops or you'd be presenting on camera or being in all varieties of content, I would have said absolutely not. So your next adventure? Yeah. I read recently on a post that you hung up your mic with her.ai. Yeah, but I'm hopefully going to pick up a new one in Sydney. So the decision to emigrate to Sydney was not one that I took lightly at all. It was such a difficult decision, but I knew I wanted to kind of grow and explore new opportunities and you know Dublin is, Australia is very expensive so is Dublin, but I just felt like the lifestyle in Sydney would really help push me on. I already miss where I heard I already missed the hustle and just yeah the socialising of it all. I think when you work in media you socialise so much. Yeah, so I love that. But yeah, my next adventure is Sydney and hopefully it will be in the media space as well, but yeah, it was a difficult decision, but it was one that I kind of felt this will help you level off now because I felt like I had kind of stagnated a little bit just in terms of like what can I do next? Like what's left to learn? Because I'm always like restless if I'm not learning. Yes, absolutely. Yeah, you need that drive. Yeah. And it's just, it's either your personality or it's not. Yeah, yeah. Absolutely. Always driven. Jody, when you hear the words live well, what does that mean to you? For me, this is going to sound totally, it's probably going to sound crazy, boss. Like crazy. I think, I think like adventure, like a healthy amount of risk. I find that like I said earlier on the other side of fear is freedom and walk better way to live than to be free and I feel like every time I've taken a risk or traveled or done something that scared me, I eventually felt like I was living a better version of myself and at the start, because it's not instant gratification where you're not like immediately happy, you're actually stressed, you're scared, you're out of routine, like it feels, everything about it feels wrong. But then when you settle and you find your routine and you find your people in this new environment, you realise how far you've come and I feel like I always get that, I don't know, it's like a feeling of so much pride but also freedom. So I love taking risk to a healthy degree, obviously. I absolutely love this. This is absolutely perfect and it's so true because when you step out of the comfort zone, like we're so, we're so hooked on like I can't do this, I can't do that. Self doubt creeps in, we have sabotage, everything in our lives. When you actually say no I can do it and then when you do it, it's that reflection, looking back. It's like I did it. Looking back at your achievements then once you've actually done it, once you've done the scary thing, I feel like that's when I start to really appreciate myself. I'm like the things that I've done and feel a sense of pride and achievement for the past version of myself as well, I look back and I'm like okay you're living better than she was but you know you're always getting better if you're always moving in my opinion but that's just me. Yeah, yeah. It's the constant growth. Yeah, the constant growth. Yeah. I do feel like I start to get so restless when if I feel like things are too samey for me. So I always need a little bit of change and I think change every now and again is good for you. Absolutely. Yeah. Change in it up completely. Simple routines like getting out for a walk or to the gym, getting up earlier in the morning. Yeah. All those little things. Oh, getting up early has changed my eye. There's a time when I just would never I would have to sleep in and I'd be turn off the alarm, turning off the alarm this year, getting up early has changed my life. It's like taking that me time in the morning. It's not just open my eyes straight to work. It's you're getting an hour or two for yourself in the morning and I'm getting up early. That actually is something that would make me no matter where I live. Absolutely. It's so true because like when you do that hit the snooze. Yeah. Snooze, snooze, then you wake up late. Yeah. Then you can't find the keys. It's a rush rush rush. You can't find the runners. You can't find shoes. Yeah. Just traffic. It's all those little things. Yeah. That just got off. God. Yeah. Start the bad day. Literally. Literally. But the difference in those couple of minutes and it's just more peaceful. Yeah. It's like so intentional that like I'm going to have a slow morning. I want to do something for myself. And I feel a lot of people are under so much pressure now. Working, paying mortgages, going to pay childcare. You do forget that hang on a minute. What am I doing this for? Yeah. Like I'm getting up at 6 a.m. every morning. I'm rushing to the drain. I'm rushing to work. I'm rushing home to do laundry. Do laundry. Do you know? Like it's that you have to just take a step back and go no I'm going to actually dedicate this bit of time to yourself. Do myself. And it's free. Like yeah. I don't think it's a life or free but spending an hour to yourself reading a book or going to for a walk or going to the gym. Yeah. Or listening to the live watch. Yeah. Listening to the live watch. So, Jody, do you have any tips or tricks that might have somebody that may be struggling in whether it's starting social media or working in social media or that whole aspect of trying to not say yes to everything all the time. So I remember before I got into her, I was having like really bad anxiety and like I couldn't have imagined myself in this role. But what actually was the most effective thing ever for me was meditation and credit where it's true, Chanel Hagerty. Oh my god. Like she really brought meditation into my life in a way that changed it. I hope I'm here instantly. But like that's not the first step. She is incredible and like meditation, it's just I don't do it as fast as I should now. Okay. Well, because of my life was so busy. But in the lead up to starting that job and actually taking on new tasks and I suppose needing more confidence and to be honest, it started as a way to just get rid of the anxiety. But what happened next was that it actually made me more confident, it made me more relaxed, made me more sure of myself. And it has like this ripple effect on the rest of your life. You do it for one thing. Yeah. I find and then before you know it, like it's benefiting all areas of your life. So I would say meditation, it's hard. It feels weird at the start and the goal, as Chanel Hagerty says, is it's not to not think. It's just to be able to control your thoughts. Yeah. So that helped so much for me. And I do pull it out every now and again. But yeah, I need to go back into consistent flow of meditation because it truly is like it's so powerful and it's actually, it actually brings results. The other thing then would be exercise exercise. I, to stay level, I need exercise. It just makes me so happy. It helps me feel like so if I exercise in the morning, the rest of my day runs so smoothly. If I sleep in and I don't do any exercise, I just immediately am off to a bad start. So I just feel like it's such a beneficial thing to have in your life. And I know it's easier said than done. You know, not everyone can get to the gym or maybe, you know, like there's reasons why people can't exercise, but even just getting outside. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, it's just those, even like you said, that extra couple of minutes in the morning. Just to dedicate to yourself, whether it's meditation, journaling, get out for a walk in the mornings, even, you have a busy work schedule. You're junior, not brick. Just that time. Yeah. And I really feel like you said, when you said meditation really helps you with chanay, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, meditation, she's amazing. We're a manifestanda for you. Yeah. You're going to meet her. You're going to meet her there. I'm embarrassed. And put like that really does help when you have an outlet of something to focus on. Yeah. A hundred percent helps you. You're growing more. You've gained confidence. You're jumping and stepping out of your comfort zone. Yeah. And it just helps you to make sense of your thoughts. It slows everything down. Yeah. So we're all in a rush. We're all like looking to get everywhere fast. But with meditation, you slow down and you really get into your thoughts and you start to undersign yourself better. Yeah. Which I think is like the goal. I think it is. It is. Yeah. And I even find like when you're, when you've done it for so long, you see things differently. Things that may have bothered you before or little simple things that and no, you're the other people. You're like, "Ah, yeah." - It's just a lot of work. - It's just, and that's one thing I find with meditation as well, is that before where you might like have a really quick reaction to something because I could annoy you, I find that meditation actually helps you to step back and be like, "It's fine, you know, I'm not gonna get angry about this, it's not that big a deal, it helps you to kind of slow down and not have those reactions." - So it just started to rain here now, so we're gonna wrap things up, but I just wanna say a massive, massive thank you to our beautiful first guest, Jodie Kaffee, for joining us. I believe Jodie's handled below for anyone that would like to follow her travels and her stunning outfits. (laughing) - Thank you so much, it was absolutely gorgeous. - Oh, thank you so much.
