Leeds United with Ed Salinger | Correspondent Week ep. 6 | Planet FPL 2026/27
43m 29s
In this podcast episode, James and Ed discuss Leeds United’s prospects for the upcoming season, focusing on tactics, transfers, and FPL assets. Ed confirms that Leeds will likely stick with a back three, despite some experimentation with a back four in preseason. The main transfer needs are a left-back, left-sided cover, and a striker to provide competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is expected to lead the line. The fixtures are tricky, with tough early away games and no promoted teams until Gameweek 12, making it hard to identify a favorable run.
Harry Wilson’s arrival is highlighted as a creative boost, likely playing in the right half-space, but Calvert-Lewin remains the primary FPL target at 6.0 million, given his nailed status and penalty duties. Ed expresses confidence in Calvert-Lewin’s fitness, noting his 30 starts last season. James Trafford’s signing is a major positive, with hopes he’ll stabilize the goalkeeper position, though his FPL value is uncertain compared to other 5.0 million keepers. Finally, the defensive options at 5.0 million, Bijol and Tarik, are both considered viable, with Tarik slightly preferred due to his impressive preseason form and versatility. Overall, Leeds appears stable but needs reinforcements to avoid mid-season issues.
This podcast is part of the Sports Social Podcast Network. There's probably been the most standout player in place. He's in this look like an absolute rose. [MUSIC] The fantastic sports ball show. Hello, everybody. My name is James. Well, to episode six of Correspondent Week. And I'm joined by a lead genite correspondent, Ed Salinger. How are you, Ed? I'm going to do a mate, how are you? Yeah, not too bad. You feel like you're going into the Caesars, maybe one of the more stable entities in league, managers, still there. Tactics may be going to be similar to lots of stuff we saw last year. Or is there anything different we should expect? Well, I think Daniel Farts now the third longest serving manager in the league, which is pretty mental, so yeah. I guess we asked they will, but no, not really expected to see him, which different. Other than we've had a pretty good window, I'd say so far, although we needed to keep going. But yeah, yeah, so far it's looking quite good for leads. Are we expecting back free? I think so. There was talk of maybe experimenting with back four, but would not seen it in the preseason. And I think mainly will be back free, but maybe some of the, I may be at home to promote the team or some of them, maybe we'll go back four, but in general, I think it'll mainly be back free. Okay, that's going to appeal to people who want some of your defensive players. We'll come back on to it in a bit. Are you expecting more additions into the squad, the only particular positions that you identify and you're like, right, we've got a strength from now? Well, there's a very easy, we need less side-of-players, because government's has already struggling with its ham strength. We've literally only got Justin as cover, so we need to reserve left back basically. We do have a kid called Lennart, but whatever is Premier League ready is debatable. So we need left back cover and the left side as well for rock-a-for. We're in the market for someone for him as well and a striker as well, but over the night it's pretty much done, I think. When you say striker, that old concern people maybe want to go with Dominic Calvick-Lewin, is that a- I assume to both the bolster, when I don't think we'll be banned anyone to replace him, just give him competition. Okay, fine. What do we make of the fixtures for yourself? Because it's interesting when you look through, so right out to Christmas, it's difficult to identify a really good spell of fixtures for you. You do have successions of some really good home fixtures in a row, but it normally sandwiched by some really difficult away games. Yes, fully as net. We don't play Coventry until GameWe12, that's the first promoted team, so it's just a powerful master on GameWe6, there's nothing that scary, but at the same time, there's nothing that great. So it's kind of subjective, you can look at it and go to the good fixtures, are you looking and go, "Met, so here, if we play while they're all at that couple of fixtures, so I like them." But we don't play any of the good promoters in for a while, so we'll have to see what happens. First five, feel like all really competitive fixtures, aren't they? Forest, Brighton, away, Brentford, Newcastle, Palace, a hundred. They feel like five different games that you could all buy the win or lose, essentially. Forest and Brighton away were like the peak crapness of our team because before we went, before we changed to the back five, and we got bats to buy Forest and Brighton, and we got a terrible record at the ammo, so I didn't check it out, probably should have done, but I'm pretty sure I've lost pretty much every game there. Then we've got a Noon, Noon, to be also when Tariy Lamsey, Rince, Junior, Fair, Per that day, but whatever reason they couldn't score, but yeah, we've got a bad record of the ammo, so I'm not looking forward to that or Forest, but I think we're in decent team this season, so I'm out, we can get points, I can definitely test it, definitely. Okay. One of the good things about the Brentford, Newcastle, Palace, that's fine. Yeah, and I think that possibly goes on a little bit further, as well, Manchinite is okay, seven, it's kind of the big rivalry game you're with up for. Top number 10, we're just joking off camera, whether that's going to be a Friday or a Monday night this season. And then beyond that is Commentary and Ipswich at home in 1214, but that kind of sum it up to your fixtures 11 to 15, 12 and 14, you got Commentary and Ipswich at home, but that's Chelsea way 11, City away 13, Liverpool way 15, that kind of highlights my point, it never looks amazing, on the schedule and it's probably that, that the most attractive fixtures have got really tough ones around them. Yeah, the fixtures have done that to a lot of teams, aren't they, say, the same? Yeah, it's a fixed, it probably, a horrible question. Ordinarily, yeah, it is true, I think those with the best runs at the start, the season normally stand out as better than what they do currently, but they do think there's an element to, as I've said previously, that from Sunderland, who the bookies have commonly got, projected 17th up to the teams that might finish 6th up, I don't think there's huge differences in the quality between the sides, IE those who do well, you were a side that is very capable of putting together a challenge for a European spot, but it will, you also feel like a side where if you suddenly have a few injuries in certain positions, you might end up in trouble. That's how it feels to me. Well, look, it's not no back, you get injuries, anyone can be in trouble. I wasn't making those excuses, but I'm glad you linked it. One new sign that we know is obviously joined free transfer, Harry Wilson had not stand in FPL season at full-arm last year, and the previous correspondent week podcast, which I just did was with Lewis James, he didn't seem that bothered that he'd moved on. Now, from his perspective, I think there's a reshaping of full-arm and wanting to change the age profile of the squad, but it was also non-committal when I asked him if you thought it was going to be a great FPL asset for you this season. He described him as a moments player, but that can very much appeal to FPL. How do you perceive fitting in with the team? And then secondly, how do you view him as an FPL asset at 6.5? As a footballer, I'm really looking forward to it because he's, someone who's got a lot of skill, can see it past, and he's different to the title. He's not, we haven't got his type of player in our squad really, so really looking forward to it. The question with Harry Wilson, it was the last season, the outlier, or did he play that well because it's arguably the first season in his career where he really had good game time because he's tended to be a bit part play before that, hasn't he? So I don't know which one's true, is he armour on or is he? Is he the career going up? That's so good, Salah. He's not armour on is he? He's always had the technical quality. I think there's been very, very little doubt about that. I think there's just been questions about where he fits in. He's not really a winger that's going to take people on, but feels like a player who needs to see the game rather than necessarily being like a direct central number 10 who perhaps has to receive from his back to goal quite a bit, finding him in the pockets, that particular right half space is where he can obviously do his damage with his distribution. Obviously he's got a shot on him as well. Yeah, when I come back to armour on, I met more from the street point of view rather than as a player, but yeah, I'm looking forward to that part of his game because he, Bogell, I'll be providing the work from that side and hopefully confiding in the pockets, he says, we're on the organ set pieces as well with stack. So I'm really looking forward to seeing him. I'm really hopefully he's going to be good. Okay, so we definitely foresee him parry Wilson right side at 10 with Basie saying in a 3, 4, 2, 1, yeah. Yeah, he's taking Arratton's role basically. I feel like Calvitt Lewin's prize will mean that most of us overlook Wilson. Does that feel right to you? I think it's inevitable to be honest because Calvitt Lewin is the standout striker because he's nailed and on penalties. I don't know if there are any of the six millions in that position that I've been there. Especially, so Anki Castafe, it's easy to stand out at the moment of the six is, and are you going to double up, even after he's to the decent? Are you going to double up with Wilson? I think that's very debatable, but in his own right, I can see him in a decent pick. Just obviously he was a great pick, that's it. No reason he can't pick this season, but it's just are you going to double up? 14 goals from Dominic Calvitt Lewin last year from, next year, about 15.57 from FPL's website. So that's a slight under performance there. Can he sustain those sort of numbers for you again, largely kept himself fit for the majority of the season? Can we expect that from Calvitt Lewin two years in a row? I've got that fear this year from Johnny Cooper, one of the lead stackers, where's the roster I think he said, the football does not come before November for leads because that's when we were back for. So after he switched to the back five, he had 150 pressures more in the in the opponents half and any of the player in the league, just mental. So that shows you where his fitness is, he's been great. You can argue Calvitt Lewin, he's a complete mess about his injuries, he was like, he had that one season, and then after that he didn't play much, but that could just have equally been because he was running his contract down at Everton. I think it's very harshly treated in terms of being seen as an injury brand player. So I am very hopeful to be good, he'll be fine. Unfortunately I was in the away end. I say unfortunately it was a very good day for me last year. When he went down injured and your way end started singing injured again, Ola Ola, like it's a tag that's going to stick with him. Unfortunately, but we'd have to say, you started 30 out of 38 games for you last year, that's absolutely fine. It feels like you're right to me at the moment. The majority of people feel that he's the best of the six million options, at least from a consistency perspective. Maybe people want to take Brobby for the first two or move on the summit lot out but count it.
Lu and Jiao Pedro Hall and feels like it's going to be a template front-frame. Unless something changes in the next week or so in the final friend list. Massively and he deserves it. Hopefully we're Wilson there. You'll get more chances as well. Someone who can see a pass. I said my team, but he's not going anywhere. Okay, fine. So you can't give good reason to pick against Calvitt Luan. Over the there are other strikers and you maybe don't. Well, maybe you want a four five and just go out of the bedroom. I don't know. Maybe you want to use that. I don't know, but for his price, does no one better on break comments to that? Do you think so? The only one I think given a competition would be if we knew who knew Cus of number nine was. That will be close to him, but we don't do it. We'll find out on Friday, mate. Probably. I think the answer to that. I'm going to give a spoiler where I think the answer that might surprise people, but we'll cover it out on on Friday. Yeah, at the moment, I think he's the best six forward. Because even if we do get the nail, Newcastle, he might be multimoder on pens. So I know he's a striker, but I don't think he's going to be the best asset. So yeah, that's what don't definitely have pens. I think the other thing playing Internauerative is a lot of people have identified them on a wild card in the first international break after five and before six. And because you go to Arsenal in six, he does feel kind of perfect with Calvitt Luan. You go, right, it's five teams there who are all, I think you could probably club yourselves in with them where there are varying abilities like Azegi, Mike Winn, you might lose, but the fix list is not bad. He's a bit of a consistent animal. There's no reason to think you won't play minutes. You've got no European commitments. It all just falls into place to think, yeah, that's right. Do you think he's been underpriced ultimately? Maybe, but they've underpriced everyone. They don't purpose them to make him all options. So if he was seven, you wouldn't pick him. So it's fine. It's good price. The event if in Tiago's one has been overpriced. If you take his penalties away, he's probably not that much better than any of the others, but yeah, he's fine. It's good. It's good price. Okay. Right. One of the big signing in the door for you, James Trafford. He's done, I think, with known for a number of weeks, that was going to happen. How pleased do you just generally with the signing of him? Colquiper feels like it was a bit of an issue. Larger. I mean, ultimately, Colt Dallow did okay. But James Trafford should be a step up and assured us number one. Correct. I can't remember being more excited about signing. I generally can't because even Rathania, we didn't have a clue where he was when he came, turned out to be brilliant, but at the time, he was just another sign. And so I can't think of anyone who's been more excited because we have not had a reliable keeper since arguably Nigel Martin. Maybe that's harsh. But he's been a while. So yeah, I'm very pleased. His stats are off the chart, going admittedly, mainly in the jumpage. But yeah, he looks heke. We'll probably end up having to sell him for a profit. That's the realism of football, but but he just looks the absolute nuts. And I'm hoping he'll be England number one. I'm still at lead. So yeah, very, very happy with that. And so probably a pretty amazing one to be honest. I said on the weekend, I was really pleased from an England perspective with the move. It feels similar to when Pickford went to Everton. It's like, right, I have some stability in your life now. Go and play. You're a massive football club. Go and fill that that pressure of playing at Ellen Brode. Play every game for you. And that establishes yourself and not be fighting for the position. Go in and know that you're loved as the number one. That I think you'll do well. I think it's an excellent sign. I'm if you are. I'd have been quite happy with your time when I'm home. Yeah, I'm having a good time. You have reminded me that we do need a backup keeper in the market. Because at the moment it's Alex Kernz, who is not at the level. He's absolutely league ones. So, Cole D'Aloha Pschum is now hated because he's gone to United. Lucas Perry is going. Yeah, Tareena is the word. It's not the convermge, but that's what seems to be happening. I can't see him staying. He doesn't. You want to play somewhere. I can't take him staying because we need a backup keeper, but he won't. He'll go to Tareena. So we expect you to buy another backup keeper. Yeah, 100%. We need one year. It's going to be really funny when you buy another goalkeeper and he's number one. He's he's better than Trafford. Trafford. That's others numbers. We're not getting done around it. So, are we not going to be better than Trafford? No, I don't think James Trafford would have gone back to Manchester City if he'd known that was going to happen. Is he a FPO interest at 5 million Trafford? He's actually in my team, finally enough. Oh, that's interesting. Go on. A lab break. Well, again, that's me being me with my silly, silly way of playing FPL. But is he an option for the sort of more normal manager? It's very debatable because obviously his man's city prize. What I'll never know is what would he have been if he'd joined before the game came out? He would have been pushing five. I think he possibly was four or five on it. Obviously, the rivalry was four or five, but the thing is he could. It could be like a only type situation where he just ends up being good because we don't can see that many big chances. And he just, you see me make some relatively easy saves from distance. So I think he's got a very good chance to be one of the best five. But the problem is, lamens his five, such as his five, there's some big, big team keepers are only five. So he's going to do well to be better than only. Yeah, that is the problem. But just as a pun, like he's as good as anyone really. Do you want a pun goalkeeper said? I mean, you said normal people won't go down. You're not normal, no? Not at the LM, not no. No chance. But maybe puns are wrong word, but you just, you know, you just automatically go to Llamens, I think you're probably not going to pick him over him. But he's easy. I think I've, I think he's a very gentle, but he's good as anyone at five, just for the same points and stuff. Problem is though, there are ways into your defence for potentially cheap or for the same price. Talk to me about your two five point zero defenders. Last year, early on the season, Jacob is your week off the way we're going. I'm not quite sure what's happening here. He's going in the team very soon. We can't really explain why this isn't happening. It became clear during the second half of the season that he established himself. I would guess like it's stay first choice. But you thought someone who might be very competitive with him from a deaf con perspective. Tarik, Mohemura, Verbe, Bosnian, Feller. So we just call him Tarik, Ed. It's that what we're in the group. Yeah, that's it. Okay, let's go with Tarik. Talk to you about Bijol and Tarik and their FPL prospects. Tarik, I'm going to go for it in the hair remover, but it's probably been the almost standout player in place. He's in this look like an absolute role of Royce. I think he's got deaf con in a few of the games. I have accounted it. I've just seen it on to it. So he does look like he's going to instantly be our best defender. So he'll play less and the back. He's a strong replacement. Be all the central centre back then one of it. So yeah, I think they're both worth the money. But what you got remember from last season is they were all 4 million as with Sunderland as we're burning. So you don't mind. I mean, when you're 4 million, I was doing better than expected. It was great. But now the 5 million, you're not going to want to play him in the harder pictures. Even with deaf con. So that just put a different sound on it. Seeing as there's not really anyone that goodies under five. I think the perfectly good, perfectly good assets. I'll keep the maramovitchies. He's popular and I totally get it. I won't bend one off him. But we are going literally off what happened in preseason though. Like he could drop off and maybe you maybe get dropped. So you know, but right here right now it looks like he's going to be here and play the whole season. Would you have a preference between the two? Why, tell. Yeah, Tarek feels like the shiny new toy a little bit. And we've forgotten about Bizzoa a little bit. I totally acknowledge as well. There's a little bit of concern. I think with Bizzoa, like if it moves back to a back 4, he might suddenly be the one that drops out. Because he feels like it's right for him to play in the middle of the back 3. Do you have a preference between the two? Draft beer. Right now I would say the hammer of it. Just because if we do swap the back 4, he's more, I'd say he's more vulnerable beer. But he's very, very close. So I just, I would imagine be off probably slightly better. But Fcon just because of where he's visiting and the back. He's such a ball winner. I don't know. Probably in the hammer of it's just because that's where he ever know I've and why not. When you say left-sided turn it back, Rolls Royce, I think of Jan Vatongan. Jan Vatongan's not the kind of prototype of defender that I had a visualization about for picking up Defcon's. Yeah, this fella seems like he might be a bit of a beast for it. So what is he, is he about, when you say Rolls Royce, he's like really cultured on the ball. Is that what we're saying? But also just very physical in the challenge or what? Both, yeah, both, yeah. And I guess with the Tongan they play for a better team, wasn't they say probably once upon a time? We continue. You don't have to be, you have to pull more than what leads. Well, the other thing we're, I'm a bit just, strike was the first contact for corners and for ruins a lot of the time. I think you love the stats for that will lead. So you would imagine that that'll be in my, I'm a bit too strong as well. So I'm going to help with his assist potential and all potential. Okay, so you'd go, but Taric. Of the fives area. Okay. Is Joe Rolon for 0.5? A cheaper way in and likely to stay or start as the right-sided centre back? If you're going with an early wildcard, he's fine, but if you're not, it's very tricky. Because what happened last season was he got injured in the club game against West Ham. And we all thought he'd missed the club semi, but a typical Rolon style if he came up before that. and he was on the bench again again.
wolves, which was the first of a double game week. And he came on with 10 minutes left and then we thought he probably started as born with midweek he didn't. He came on a half-time because Boga was naked and then he didn't start in the FA Cup so but what happened in the FA Cup was government and did his hamstring so then just in up to move left which put Rode on back in the team so we don't actually know what was going on now. One of the interesting things was in the Gemias life sick on Saturday he was playing right centre back Rode on and for the goal if anyone seeing it basically Boga went wide on the wing and played Rode on through who was on the shoulder of the last defender down the channel. He ran on to put in a perfect slide ball across the box for Cavaloo and Goal and now that looks great and he did it really well but you cannot tell me he'd better at that than just it so I win everyone his fear. I think there's a very fair chance they will be just in your place right centre back in Rode on on myself but I could be wrong because Fart was like him and he deserves to be like he's been fabulous for us but whenever one is fit the fact is one of Rode on them oh God Boga or just in it he's not going to play and I can't under centre which one that is but I think F go at price it well because he's not as nailed as a five million guys. I think you're right yeah I think if Rode had been at five we'd probably have to overlook him for the other two. He also wasn't spectacular for Defcon's. Rode on Lodge it was like really consistent good 4.0 pick up he scored some important goals and picked him to play him games like West Ham and stuff like that. Now at 4.5 is cheaper than the other two. You think if he's going to play regularly 4.5 feels like a more difficult area to sort of invest in this year. I take your point about Justin because I think what's really interested about that is if Justin was to have favoritism over Rode on say let's just say you're going by a new left wing back for example. Justin allows you to move from a free to a 4 without changing the person now with your team whereas with Rode on it's not right and we haven't seen that where you flip tactics within games not so much necessarily at the start but it might be that it's more of an evolution we go okay right that's not working as afraid we're going to play Jayden Boga was right side in midfield for a little bit here. She'll have Justin to right back move Harry Wilson into 10 move. Ok 4 Aronson more kind of hold touch line on the left hand side does move along that way with Rode on that doesn't work in the same way if you wanted to do it. Yeah Wilson's key to that because he's a player who can naturally play the 10 no worries so it does give us more flexibility are you right that again that's another reason I prefer I prefer Justin or maybe Boga but Boga will get you left come. So at the moment we feel pretty I guess we're saying that the moment Rode on's going to start game week one unless you buy someone is kind of who could slot straight in that's how it feels at the moment. Well you say that I mean it's possible we're playing back 4 but I will be amazed but seeing me we're playing back 5 is absolutely nail because the good mason's got arm strength so just enough to put it left back. But then to flip that back I'd also said that when it's a 4 it might be visual misses out maybe or do not see that now because you feel like when you move to a 4 he was often the one that saved you move to a 4 half hour ago he might be the one that comes off to enable that. I feel like he's just his stocks have gone up though the morning's been in the team because I just again I've got this wrong last season I've been out of saying get him in get him in and he kept not getting in but I just think he's on a different level to Rode on to be honest. Okay I just don't see that I don't see that. Bogeau or Justin is it Justin then just because there's sheer adaptability play left side play right side playing you know I'd send it back. I think it is Justin but then you've got to use your work out before 19 and there's not really too much fixture congestion is there so Bogeau will probably be good to Christmas so I don't mind Bogeau it's just he's going to get deaf Conlon just in his safer for that adaptability reason yeah and he does have a attacking bread just and definitely. Yeah he had 17 point that was it against wolves I want to say in that that double he seemed to go over it over it over it kick. Okay Sebastian one L is 4.5 as well is that kind of first choice back up a centre back. Yeah he's just we need backup because when I'm going to send him we're in a bit of trouble so yeah he won't start he's just he's good player so much backup. Okay so if you had to go with one these 4.5s to start let's assume just save for the first five weeks at the moment which one would you go for. So hard he's so hard I think Justin's probably the safest but you can again he depends on your work out window if you want first five weeks road that's probably fine but he probably rode on because he's the most likely. Probably he's not washing it if people want to use it. The safest one the one who will definitely start the first five to me is bog up but he won't get it he left gone so will he get in the because then first first five games we can concede zero or two again it's there's so much difference in what can happen in those games. Okay come back to Calvert Lorin a question for you. He's Dominic Calvert Lorin the best 6 million leads asset. You're this is going to watch tack isn't it? It has to be because he's on penalties on yeah he just has to be but I do like stack it. Why why has to be just because he's on last year. Calvert Lorin's 4.1 points per match and stack is 4.7. Maybe it's more of a technical aspect of them where you need you need a striker's ball more than you need a mid-spot there's loads of mids whereas the 6 million strikers could all be good but you've got that safety with Calvert Lorin and no one is going to play. We said Calvert Lorin started what was it 29 games? Something like that yeah he played 13 so he never came off early really really on that. Started 13 and so on started 28 only five points less. It's a great option but the one thing that's worse about start this season he's like Wilson taking the set pieces off him I would imagine. I would imagine stack will still take direct 3 kicks because he was great. I see nothing because the first point is score 4 goals outside the area since he had some things so now he's got a target right. Refine him. He's got a 4 goals from outside the area so yeah but I do think Wilson will take some set pieces off him for sure. Does it also mean no that we because we're looking at Calvert Lorin a little bit out we said we're also are we wrongly overlooking and to stack? Quite possibly he's a great option. I won't put anyone up him he was going to use another one as good for death comp. What are we expecting here like him and Ampedo? There's a two or a more advanced role for stack with Tanaka or someone else coming into the team. I don't know I couldn't tell you this is quite tricky because we just got so many options there now and I'll hopefully be more advanced but you might have to get him in the team you might have to be one of the part that will pivot here but you'll get out the pitch either way it's not a big problem for us. He's a great option on his own for sure. Ok, Ok 4 had a great end to last in certainly April we went on a real bit of straight he's the same prize 6 million. Prefer Ok 4 to stack? No because he just he's so uncivil he could stack got injured as well but he just I don't trust his Amped strings basically. It'll be his first choice if you've got anyone else but but you do trust Calvert Lorin's sorry not sorry. I have to yeah I have to do he's showing it he's showing it but he's using it now he's going to go down isn't he but I don't blame me. I'm going to tell you what about that. I hope he's good at ok 4 if he's very streaky like the surely got be better 6 millions in the game the knock of 4 so I'll have to. Ok so for you for you at least then stack over ok 4. Yeah it's just for just a safety a minute. Ok because he will come off at least ok 4 most games for a stack won't Is that an element of Brandon Aronson a you of the opinion that he's ok 4 ahead of Aronson in current pecking order. On the left for sure yeah definitely we've got none too as well he may or may not remain at the club but he'll want minutes as well so. And also he also had a decent period he I felt he stepped up really nicely few at that period where you changed system actually after the during and then after the managed to set you game in in November might be an early December he had a really good spell down. Interesting I don't know if we should acknowledge that Aronson had a good spell over sort Christmas or before had that really good spell over Easter and there might be something there about catching these sort players on streaks I have to say on Brandon Aronson I always thought he was pretty shy but I think his general ballcarrying and his adaptability in the league last year was much better than what I'd seen of him previously and he actually impressed me on occasions last year I don't think it's turning to an after decent player. Yeah he was really good and he's a type of play part lights because he's so energetic he has to come down the pitch really well so yeah he will definitely take minutes off Wilson and maybe I'll come for as well don't be for sure but he won't have to he just would the players we bought I just don't seem to be in first choice. Okay that's bad injury. Ethan Amperdo definitely will be running. Oh 100% he's either a club captain him him signing the new day always arguably his importance traffic come in say yeah great and we're really looking forward to seeing him. 5.5 we have consideration or not for you. I guess he's as good as San Gari I want to see to think it's winning the ball and thought of the back of the signing for Brentford.
But yeah, he's probably about the same sort of assentant saying I really spying, but I just me personally I just can't get excited about him last the city got against bomb was like you put a corner and it's about four deflections And once go I don't he's not gonna put play killer for equals. You just you might be like an assist here or there But I can't get excited about him. I feel but he will get deaf gone a lot of time Ah, yeah, but doesn't mean he can't be decent for a pro trivia question for you How many midfielders at 5.5 or under and you think got more points per match and ampedu last season? What was that? Anderson he was about that. I want to hear you look at more. He's not 5.5 now, mate This season yeah, I've this season price so those prices and produce price and lower Yeah, it won't be many will look because they've all gone up the ones that did I know maybe a couple maybe is maybe none one who was a gross Gross versus ampedu as an argument Copy gross because of the set pieces Maybe penalties as well. Okay, ampedu versus EWoby Oh my god, got existed Well, Phil, I've got that run. I want them to play all the promises back to that So I'd rather have a wavy for that but in general I'd say maybe I'll I get out me personally with my FPS I was also a wavy because he's more attacking but consistently for consistency ampedu is fine here Okay, even ampedu last year has got 134 FPL points There's only three less than Anton stack. It's only eight left than Dominic Calvitt low-in. I do acknowledge that that is from 35 starts Well to me that just tells me I suck at FPL and then it because I refuse to recommend plays like ampedu even though it gets lots of points So you were I guess where I'm leaving to and this is would you pay 0.5 more for stack over ampedu? I would personally but that's the point speak from cells is fine because I'm pedo rarely gets injured and will play every minute So if you that type of manager go for it Okay quick fire on these 5.0 midfielders because you've got a number of them so to NACA Just won't start. I don't think I obviously will get the old star, but he won't start enough to be enough to be an option Okay, long stuff Same same good player one griff You'll probably start a bit more, but again, he's easy. He's a shit to ampedu is nice Joe go hard not going to hole no I think we're still trying to sign them I think we're still trying to get rid of my things So but even if we don't he won't start now Okay fine holes next on correspondent wake will he non-toe? If he's still here, I don't hate it but again, he's not gonna start unless and that's a awful gets injured So I mean just can't why we start makes no sense to start them. Okay, at the risk of met and you repeat yourself Ed Daniel James Just not kind of star Probably the great play wells have ever produced so they know he won't start I It's about the false is about the full best Welshman that leads now in fairness isn't he Ed? He probably is yeah, we've got road on ampedu Wilson over missed Okay, 5 million forward gel paro We're trying to get rid of me he seems to want to stick around. I don't know whether it's a false confidence they'll play or he just wants to run his contract on it and I know that he's got absolutely no chance of starting He's never getting minutes and after the preseason game So he didn't want I know there was a game I want to say that he was like the only senior player in the squad on the bench who didn't get on And I thought oh, I that that feels like message sending to me a little bit Okay, Lucas the match up is 5.5 I'm not saying I'm not I'm not saying to get him. I guess this is more of a amateur threat is he to don my suppose You'll tell me it's often because he's done well. He's a good finish But arguably a better finish than don't to be fair So he just won't start if Calvin and gets injured and we don't buy anyone then he's an option, but unless that happens no chance Okay, I would say at this stage that unless I'm at changes bar Injuries like Goodman Sunners actually almost made it a little bit easier to understand what you're game week one line up Poor B less is an injury unless you do so in in the transfer window and goes straight in I'd be amazed when I ask you now for your predicted 11 if it's not the same 11 I've got in my mind Yes, very easy in that bogal right Be all road on and hammer of it nailed it We've just in on the left trafiting goal and Purdue this the next guy is the one Would be slightly struggling with possibly so come back to him But up front of the car but there any or Wilson on the right alcohol for on the left now many have got left lost count Oh stack is the one you haven't said Yeah, but he's doesn't make it 11 What would do yeah, yeah, well, they go stack there Yeah stack with ampado that feels like the only question mark could it be stack a little bit further forward And then maybe tenaka plays long sides ampadoor long star for some different combination I just feel as well though be if you're gonna stick with his system I Feel like it needs a speed star around Wilson someone who can really carry like an aquifer or a dan James someone is really gonna carry the game for you so I think Aquifer will get favoritism and I think from the start. That's not talking about an FPL that's it But yeah, that feels very straightforward that that's as it stands that's your 11 game one I think Yep, it's very easy. Yeah, you've got a bogal to carry the ball, but I want to call him a speedster Would you as well? Yeah, you can use that from the wide areas in fairness with those two yeah What does what is a good season look like for lead? It's got to be really still got to be optimistic as they challenge you for your I'm like for Europe and me like conference like I've got to try and think about top half and pushing towards top eight And why not I'm not saying that happened that thing that has to be the ambition Yeah, I think it's I think it's right right to have that ambition that comes with the caveat of second season syndrome can hit It can and I don't want to be rude to anyone, but it just feels like we're going back to the Like the the previous season the previous seasons of the free promotion is going to struggle So he can't it's almost feels like I really shouldn't say this, but it almost feels like a free season in terms of going down Okay, unless we get injuries I can't see how we finish below those three me go put that in the save for my you file But he's retired and realized he's got no corresponding weak podcast next season And I I find it very difficult to think you'll be in trouble this year But I think ultimately anyone who probably gets sucked into it get sucked into it because one of those free does really well Let's be honest you and Sunderland both did better than we expected on the outside at least Last year, so if one of them does that As discussed with Lewis on episode five it might cause a little bit of panic But I feel like ultimately it'll probably come down to injury issues We'll probably define who gets like sucked into it like suddenly if you lost Calvitt Lewin and Purdue Trafford Like through your spine Oh, I'm a bit concerned as like an example, right? But at the moment Yeah, I think your rights have those ambitions said Well, the if if trafford and Just in pull up in the warmup on can we want it will be Mahammer of it. What's the play left back in Alex Kahn's in goal? So it really doesn't take a lot of us to look a bit crap So yeah, you're right. We do need to avoid injuries Good stuff Ed. Thank you so much. Your first COTC appearance I think is during that kind of potential wildcard period journey in national break before the trip to Austin We game week six where we can find out if it's right to bin the leads players that we potentially start with or whatever we want to go back to them How far is it from you to whole? What my geography was yeah Well, I'm getting there about an hour probably I don't know how many much that I just wanted to find out if you were safe considering what you just said about the primary club Oh, bring it on where leads where leads Okay, next up Please, please, please next up on Correspondent Week it is Danny McDonald on whole city Episode seven one not to be missed. I mean, this is going to be different to the other Correspondent Week Podcast Ed. Thank you very much. Good luck for the season pal. Be nice to each other. Calvert-Lewin started 30 of 38 games last season, and despite injury concerns, he’s considered the best value striker in his price range.
James Trafford’s signing is highly anticipated, with hopes he’ll be a reliable number one and potential England keeper, though his FPL appeal at 5.0 million is debatable.
Defenders Bijol and Tarik are both priced at 5.0 million, with Tarik impressing in preseason and potentially being the preferred option, though Bijol remains a solid pick.
