A man recounts a story about meeting a woman named "Shorty" on Instagram who asks for someone to "scoop" her—meaning pick her up. He quickly verifies her identity to avoid being scammed, then picks her up, smokes weed, and buys food before going on a road trip. Suddenly, she panics and begs to exit the car to answer a call from her boyfriend. The man finds this suspicious and initially wants to keep driving, questioning why she would act this way. He explains that she fabricates a story claiming she was kicked out of her friend’s house by the mother, who went “crazy” (meaning went into a fit). To make the lie believable, she calls her friend to "merge" the story—effectively selling the deception. Her boyfriend believes it completely, falling for it “hook, line, and sinker,” meaning he accepted the lie without question. The man is shocked and amazed at how easily the deception worked without any preparation. The story highlights natural, informal American slang and colloquial expressions used in real conversations, such as “scoop,” “addie” (address), “black out,” “merge,” “no prep time,” and “on God” (as in, “I swear”). Though the authenticity of the events is uncertain, the narrative serves as an example of how people in casual settings use language to convey humor, surprise, and emotional reactions. The host emphasizes that understanding such speech requires context and exposure to real-world, unscripted dialogue, not just formal grammar.
What's up my friend. This is real English radio. I am your host Tony Kaisen and today's story comes from a dude named Sousa
Who had an impressive experience with a deceptive woman. So I'm gonna play the entire video
You know the entire story from start to finish and then break it down bit by bit to help you understand everything
That was said and as I often say do not make any assumptions about your current English level after hearing this guy speak
And if you can't understand what he's saying is probably because he's speaking a bit fast and using lots of slang that you just
Don't hear every day. All right. It's totally normal. So let's get right into it man
I'm gonna play this story or this video rather and then we'll go back and break it down
Shorty posting on her grand notes who could come scoop me
Well, I'm not doing shit. So I swipe up like where you at next message was the add in her number like that
It was so quick. I had to I had to perfect the inspection make sure I wasn't about to get lying because she passed inspection
I go scoop her in my car. I smoke her buy some eats now. We go on a little road trip, right?
Why I don't know where she gonna start panicking and my passenger seat
Tell them some oh my god. Oh my god. He's calling you pull over let me out the car
What her nigga is calling her phone and she she is begging me to pull over so she can jump out my car
So she can pick up this nigga's phone call
Honestly, my first instinct was to just keep driving cuz fuck you mean pull over my nigga calling me
We not worry about that nigga right now. Shorty was genuinely about to eject out my vehicle
She about to click triangle and jump out my car at 30 miles per hour. Oh fuck it. I'mma just pull over and let's shorty out, right?
She jump out my car. She run across the street immediately. She pick up this nigga's phone call
I'm sitting in my car across the street from her just just look at his listening in the middle of nowhere, right?
And she's just in front of like a few like random ass houses, right?
She's gonna convince this nigga that she was at her homegirl crib, right? Her homegirl mom just came home
Started blacking for no reason and like kicked her out the crib
And now she's just standing outside her homegirls house. She don't like it and she don't know what to do then
She's gonna pull up her homegirl. Her homegirl is gonna merge it. No prep time
I added her friend to the face. I'm calling her friend. Yes, bro. My mom. She just came home girl
And then she banged it and this nigga sitting here this nigga fell for the shit hooked my sinker
He's gonna come get her ass back in my passenger seat pick up her ice cream and okay, you could drive now
And on God I pulled off but like yo no prep time though
Alright my friends out as I said in the beginning do not make any assumptions about your English level after hearing this guy speak
He was speaking pretty fast at certain parts of the video using lots of slang
So it's normal or it would be normal if you didn't understand everything
It's all good my friend. That's what I'm here for. All right. I'm gonna break it down
Piece by piece to make sure you understand every single word. So let me go back to the beginning of the video and we'll get started
Shorty posted on her grand notes. Who could come scoop me?
I'm not doing shit. So I splap up like where you at? All right, so in that first sentence shorty this word is
Let's call it slang for lack of a better term. It's slang for a
Young woman or in some in some cases it could be a child
Because in this case he's talking about a girl that he's interested in and I don't know if I would say it's always a girl
You're interested in like romantically or sexually it could just be a female
And
When it's when his kids obviously it could be a male or a female like if I'm talking to my niece or my nephew
I might say what's up shorty and in that case it's kind of like saying what's up short person?
You know what I mean? I guess when you talk about a young woman too because women are typically shorter but
Anyway, now we're getting into like the technical aspects of the word just understand that when we say shorty
Typically, it's a young woman typically and obviously in this case. That's exactly what he means
So anyway, he says shorty posted on her Graham notes
Now, I don't know if you guys do this in your native languages
But in English we often say the Graham or just Graham
Which is obviously short for Instagram?
So this girl posted on her Instagram notes. That's another way of saying it and then she says who could come scoop me?
Now the word scoop is not meant to be taken literally here and it's a verb and this context it just means
To pick someone up
Now maybe you never heard this word at all like to scoop if you think about an ice cream scoop
For example, if you're watching on YouTube you can see I have a picture here of an ice cream scoop
And what you do with this utensil is you literally scoop ice cream out of the container
So think about that like you're scooping up a person figuratively you get in your car
You go to where they're located and you pick them up and you take them somewhere
So she's basically, I don't know why she would do this, but she posted on her Instagram notes
Who can come scoop me or who can pick me up and take me somewhere?
Anywhere I'm guessing she didn't really specify where she wanted to go, but that's not important
So he says, you know, I'm not doing shit
Which is another way of saying I'm not doing anything
So I swipe up, you know that Instagram feature where you can swipe up on something and he messages her and says where you at?
This is a very informal yet very common way for Americans to ask each other where we're located instead of saying where are you?
We say where you at and again, it's very informal
It's not standard English, so I wouldn't write this way, you know to your boss or a coworker or in an email or anything like that any
Any moment you're trying to sound professional. You would never say where you at, you know what I mean? That's very very informal
Like colloquial English, you understand?
All right, I'm gonna go back to the beginning and play some more
Shorty posting on her grand notes who could come scoop me?
I'm not doing shit. So I swipe up like where you at next message was the addy in her number like that
Okay, so to recap this girl posted on her Instagram notes
Hey, who can come scoop me who can pick me up and take me somewhere and this guy says, well, I'm not doing shit
So I swipe up I send her a message and I say where you at the next message that she sent was the addy
And her number bam like that. So there's two things I want to explain here. The first one is the word addy
I guess there's no like official spelling, but we typically spell it addy and it's it's simply short for the word address
It's you could call it like slang. You know drop the addy send me the addy. What's the addy?
I'm saying what is the address you understand again is slang all all the speech in this video is
Extremely informal. There's lots of slang. This is the very young man if you're watching on YouTube
You can see he's very young so naturally
He's speaking like a young person with lots of slang, which is why although I'm explaining all this to you because I want you to understand it
If you're my age, you know, you're in your 30s 40s or 50s
You may not be using half of the words and phrases that this kid is using just so you know, all right, but anyway
The word addy is just short for address. So in the very next message. She sends the address and her number
Bam like that
So whenever you hear somebody snap their fingers and then say like that or they say boom like that
They're just they're referring to how quickly something happened like bam like in one instant
This thing happened really quickly
So she says hey who can come scoop me who can pick me up? He says I'm not doing shit where you at she sends the addy and her number bam like that
All this happened really quickly. That's what you should understand
All right, let's keep going
Shorty posted on her grand notes who could come scoop me?
I'm not doing shit. So I swipe up like where you at next message was the addy and her number like that
It was so quick. I had to I had to put her through inspection make sure I wasn't about to get lying because she passed inspection
All right, so again, he said all this has happened so quick. It was so quick. I had to put her through inspection
Now this isn't something that I've heard somebody say before
But obviously I understood what he meant when he said it when he says put her through inspection
He's just saying I need to verify that this isn't some nefarious or shady activity going on
Which and that's what he means when he goes on to say I wanted to make sure I wasn't about to get lined
Another phrase I've never heard before but using the context you understand
What he means to say to get lined means to get set up to get scammed
Maybe she's trying to lure him to this location. So her homeboys can rob him or or something like that
Maybe he's getting set up to get scammed in some kind of way to get tricked
Some kind of bad situation that he probably doesn't want to be in so he put her through inspection
He tested her or he asked her more questions or he verified certain information to make sure he wasn't about to get scammed or robbed or something of that nature
Okay, now as I was reading the script before I started recording
There's a lot of little phrases in here put her through inspection or to get lined and it made me think I often get the question
How do I know that I've reached an advanced level of English?
And I think one of the indicators is that when you hear people speak
And you hear a phrase that you've never heard before you can use the context of the situation to understand what's being said
And that's or this right here is one of those situations. This is the first time I've seen this I saw it this morning
I saw this video and I heard him say that I put her through inspection to make sure I wasn't about to get lined
I've never heard somebody say that before
But intuitively I just knew what he meant
Using the context of the situation, you know, there's many other ways you could say that same sentence
He just said it in a way that's different from the way I would say it, but I still understood you know what I mean
So I think that's how you can
Start to get an idea of how advanced your English may or may not be it's not like a
100% accurate assessment of your English level, but you can be pretty sure you're at
least improving once you get to a point where you're hearing phrases you've never
heard before but you can use the context to relatively easily understand the
idea of what somebody's saying. But anyway let's get back to this video.
He had her number like that. It was so quick I had to I had to port the inspection
make sure I wasn't about to get lying because she passed inspection. I go
scoop her in my car, I smoke her, buy her some eats now we go on a little road trip.
All right so this girl says who can come scoop me he's like I'll do it where you
at she sent the adi she sends the number bam like that and it was so quick he
had to put the girl through inspection. Make sure he wasn't about to get
lying. Not about to get robbed or scammed or tricked into something crazy right?
So she passed the inspection. He goes to scoop her in his car. He goes to
pick her up and then he says I smoke her up buy her some eats and now we go
in on a little road trip. So when he says I smoke her up I smoke her up again
not something I would say when I was in high school we'd say smoke her out smoke
somebody out and all it means is that you let them smoke your weed. He's got
some weed or marijuana or gonja grass there's a million names for it right? He
has some weed he goes and he picks her up and he lets her smoke his weed or they
smoke it together obviously. So when I was in high school we would say I'll
smoke you out. I'll bring some weed and we'll smoke together he says smoke her
up it's the same thing it's the same exact thing and he goes on to say buy her
some eats buy her some eats so he brings some weed they smoke the weed and then he
goes and he buys her some food. Eats in this case is just slang for food you're
not going to hear that every day I never use the word eats in this way but
again you just understand it because of the context he buys her some eats and
if you look here on YouTube if you're watching on YouTube I mean that's where
you get the name Uber Eats because what they sell on this platform is food so
he's talking about food so he smokes her out or smokes her up he buys her some
eats or some food and now they're going on a little road trip which is just a
colorful way of saying they're just driving they're just going somewhere we don't
know where not really important for this story okay all right let's keep going
I have some inspection I go scoop her in my car I smoke her up buy her some
eats now we go on a little road trip right why I don't know where she gonna
start panicking and my passenger seat throwing some oh my god oh my god he's
calling you pull over let me out the car okay so they're going on this little
road trip mind you they're gonna smoke some weed they've they've got some food
they on this road trip then he says why out of nowhere she gonna start panicking
in my passenger seat and blah blah blah so the first thing I want to explain is
a pretty common thing that happens when we tell stories informally you're
telling a story to a friend and if you notice he starts this this sentence with
the word why as if he's asking a question it's as if he's saying why why is it
that out of nowhere she does this thing as if he's asking you to explain why
this other person did this thing and you weren't even there you weren't present
for this this thing that happened that he's telling you about I hope that makes
sense he's not actually asking you why this happened it's just a it's just a
thing we do it's just a way of speaking like man tell me why a lot of people say
tell me why when they're telling a story and they're about to tell you
something crazy or dumb or ridiculous to happen man tell me why does girl did
blah blah blah tell me why does this guy said blah blah blah tell me why this
tell me they're not asking you to tell them why they're really just
conveying the idea that they think this is ridiculous whatever they're about
to tell you is ridiculous they can't understand why somebody would do
whatever they're about to describe to you I really hope that makes sense so
he says why out of nowhere or suddenly she gonna start panicking another colloquial
way of speaking she gonna start panicking in my passenger seat now if you look
at that sentence she's gonna start panicking that's speaking about the future
even though you're telling or you're speaking about it in future tense even
though you're telling a story that obviously happened in the past it's just
another one of those things that we do when telling a story typically when
telling stuff I'm trying to think of another situation but typically telling
stories so I'm doing x y and z right and this guy going blah blah blah this girl
gonna say blah blah blah so I'm saying gunna as if it's gonna happen in the
future but I'm speaking to you about something that happened in the past this
isn't really that important of a detail but you might be confused if reading that
or you hear that and you say why is he saying she's gonna do something if she
already did it you know what I mean it's just something I can't tell you why it's
just something we do when we tell stories so anyway tell me why out of nowhere
this girl gonna start panicking another way to say that is tell me why I don't
know where she starts panicking in the passenger seat of my car talking about
some oh my god oh my god he's calling me pull over let me out the car so the
next thing another oh shit another colloquial way of speaking is talking about
some blah blah blah again I can't tell you why we do this man I really can't
tell you why we do this but it's just a way of setting up a quote it's
something that we say before we quote someone else so they're riding in the
car and out of nowhere this girl starts panicking and she says oh my god oh my
god he's calling me pull over but in the video this guy says she's in the
passenger seat she's panicking talking about some oh my god oh my god he's
calling me pull over talking about some like you hear that or you read that
you know what the fuck what does that what does that mean talking about some it's
just a colloquial way of speaking man I wish I could tell you why we do this but
I don't know I really don't know and typically when we say talking about some and
then we quote something that somebody else said again it conveys the idea that
we think whatever they said is ridiculous or crazy or weird you understand
because remember the context of the situation he picks her up they smoke some
weed they go get some food they're on his road trip everything's cool everything
is good then out of nowhere she starts panicking talking about some oh my god
oh my god he's calling me pull over let me out the car so that's pretty
ridiculous it's pretty crazy it's unexpected right so again I hope that makes
sense to you is one of those cultural things that it's hard to explain in
literal terms or it's hard to explain the reason why we do these things but
hopefully when you go back and listen to this it'll be easier to understand it
or at least in the future when you hear something like this it'll be easier to
understand so anyway let's keep moving nowhere she's gonna start panicking and
my passenger seat oh my god oh my god he's calling me pull over let me out the
car what her nigga is calling her phone and she she is begging me to pull over
so she can jump out my car so she can pick up this nigga's phone call all
right so I don't know where she's panicking talking about some oh my god he's
calling me pull over let me out the car now you probably guessed it before
you heard that part of the story but her boyfriend is calling her or her
husband I don't know we don't actually know it doesn't matter but in the video
this guy says her nigga is calling her phone now I'm sure you've heard this word
before especially if you listen to hip-hop music or you're on social media you
know some black people like you you've probably heard this word multiple times
and I probably talked about it on the podcast before we're not gonna make this
episode about the word nigga however in this context all you need to
understand is that this this word is being used to refer to a man that's it it
functions the same way the word guy or man functions in this context so you we
could say her man is calling her phone her boyfriend really that's what it is
it's not even just man or guy it's her boyfriend her boyfriend is calling her
phone because some some young young females will refer to their boyfriend as
their nigga that's my nigga that's my boyfriend in some context it's the same
thing not recommending you do that but but now you understand in this context it
means boyfriend so he says her nigga is calling her phone her boyfriend is
calling her phone and she is begging me she is pleading she is desperately
asking me again and again to pull over now to pull over when you're driving a
vehicle it just means to stop the car you pull or maneuver guide the car to the
side of the road and you stop that's what it means to pull over so she's begging
him pull over pull over he's calling me oh my god let me out the car she wants to
jump out the car now jump out the car doesn't really mean literally jump out of
the car you can't even jump from a seated position right doesn't make literal
sense it just means quickly exit the vehicle so she can pick up this nigga's phone
call and this is actually interesting because he says her nigga is calling her
phone and that sentence he's saying her boyfriend at the end of this thought he
says she she's begging me to pull over so she can jump out of my car so she can
pick up this nigga's phone call now
in that situation or in that sentence this nigga's phone call just means this guy's phone call
it doesn't mean like if you replace the word nigger with with boyfriend there it doesn't make sense
so she can pick up this boyfriend's phone call it doesn't make sense so he's saying this guy's
phone call so again the word the meaning of the word changes depending on the sentence depending
on the context depending on who or what you're talking about okay but anyway let's get back to
the story she is begging me to pull over so she can jump out my car so she can pick up this nigger's
phone call honestly my first instinct was to just keep driving cuz fuck you mean pull over my
nigger calling me we now worry about that nigga right now okay so he says honestly my first instinct
when hearing this when she's panicking and begging me to let her out the car my first instinct was
just to keep driving because fuck you mean pull over my nigger calling me now this phrase right here
fuck you mean it's short for what the fuck do you mean I've done an episode about how to use the
word fuck like a native English speaker I don't remember the episode number but it's somewhere in
there and if you heard that episode then you would know what the fuck is a very common way to use
the word fuck in questions but oftentimes we will shorten that and just say fuck like fuck you
doing fuck you going fuck you say instead of what the fuck you understand so in this context fuck you
mean the complete sentence would be what the fuck do you mean okay so his first instinct was to
just keep driving because what the fuck do you mean pull over my nigger calling me again another
colloquial way of speaking especially when telling a story it's like fuck you mean blah blah blah a
lot of times we'll say fuck you mean and then repeat whatever you said to convey the idea that
we think what you said was ridiculous or we don't understand what you said or why you would say
it we're driving we smoke and we we got some food everything's cool all of a sudden you're panicking
saying pull over my boyfriend's calling me like what the fuck what do you mean what are you talking
about fuck you mean pull over are you crazy that's kind of the the idea and the feeling that you can
understand at this part of the story let me play it again it's a pull over so she can jump out
my car so she can pick up this nigger's phone call honestly my first instinct was to just keep
driving because fuck you mean pull over my nigger calling me we not worry about that nigger right now
shorty was genuinely about to eject out my vehicle keep about to click triangle and jump out my car
at 30 miles per hour oh fuck it I'm gonna just pull over I'm gonna shorty out right okay so fuck you
mean pull over we're not worried about that nigger right now we're not worried about your boyfriend
right now it's me and you right now baby fuck you're talking about so then he says she was
genuine shorty again this girl was genuinely about to eject out my vehicle an eject just means like
to rapidly exit you know what I mean or like if you see those fighter jets if the if the the jet is
about to crash they hit the eject button the top of the plane comes off and the the seat that the
pilot is sitting in ejects from the plane shoot straight upward and the parachute comes out and
they're safe or whatever that's what it means to eject just think about flying out of something
very quickly so she was about to eject jump out of my vehicle she was about to click triangle and
jump out of my car at 30 miles per hour now this this phrase click triangle it basically is a
reference to I believe GTA at least that's what I thought when I first heard it click triangle and
it's in reference to the PlayStation controller if you look at a PlayStation controller the the green
triangle button there at the top when you're driving a vehicle and you press triangle you get
out of that vehicle or you get off that vehicle so that's the reference that he's making she's about
to click triangle and jump out of my car at 30 miles per hour as if we're playing grand death auto
on PlayStation you understand so then he says but fuck it I'm just gonna pull over and let shorty out
now this phrase fuck it in this context just means it's a way of expressing the idea that you don't
care it's like I whatever whatever I don't care fuck it you understand it's almost like figuratively
giving up like I fuck it I don't care so she was genuinely about to eject from my vehicle click
triangle jump out the car she's going crazy so I just say fuck it I don't care whatever I'm just
gonna pull over and let shorty out or in other words let her out not to let somebody out of your
car literally just means you know you stop the car and allow them to exit the vehicle that's
all he's saying so let's keep moving. Jordy was genuinely about to eject out my vehicle she
about to click triangle and jump out my car at 30 miles per hour oh fuck it I'm gonna just pull
over and let shorty out right she jump out my car she run across this treaty immediately she
pick up this nigga's phone call I'm sitting in my car across the street from her just look at his
listening in the middle of nowhere right and she's just in front of like a few like random ass
houses right she's gonna convince this nigga that she was at her homegirl crib right her homegirl
mom just came home started black it for no reason and like kicked her out the crib and now okay
so he says fuck it he pulls over he lets this girl out the car she jumps out the car she runs
across the street for some reason and she picks up her boyfriend's phone call now this guy telling
the story he's sitting in his car across the street from her just looking and listening to what's
happening in in the middle of nowhere he says in front of a few random houses and so her plan is
to convince her boyfriend that this whole time she was at her homegirl's crib so there's two words
I'm gonna explain the first one is homegirl this is another another term that just means female friend
generally speaking it means female friend now crib as you may or may not know just means house
is slaying for house so she's gonna try and convince her boyfriend at this entire time she's been at
her friend's house that's the idea and she's gonna tell this guy that her friend's mom just came
home and she started blacking for no reason now again another one of those words I've never heard
but with context you understand he means going crazy and when he says blacking it makes me think of
the phrase black out which in some context means go crazy you know like if you drink way too much
alcohol you you black out like the next day you don't remember any of it that's what it means to
black out you just start acting crazy you wake up the next day and as it's as if it never happened
you don't remember any of it your mind just went black one minute you were awake the next minute
it's the next day and you can't remember the six hours in between those two points in time you
blacked out in this context to black out just means like you lose control you go crazy figuratively
speaking so her mom came home and just went crazy she spazed you understand for no reason and she
kicked this girl out the crib now to kick someone out of your house just means make them leave
if you're at my house you do something that pisses me off and I say leave I say get the fuck out
I have just kicked you out of my house you understand so let me play that again
girl crib right her shit hold on right she's gonna convince this negative that she was at her
homegirl crib right her homegirl mom just came home started blacking for no reason and like
kicked her out the crib and now she's just standing outside her homegirls house she don't like it
she don't know what to do then she's gonna call up her homegirl her homegirl is gonna merge it
okay then she's gonna call up her homegirl and her homegirl is gonna merge it another phrase
I've never heard before but with the context if you stop and think merge merchandise what do you
do with merchandise you sell it so what he's saying is she's gonna call her homegirl her friend
who is not there by the way she's gonna call her and her friend is going to sell it she's going
to sell the story she's going to make it believable that's what it means to sell a story
you're trying to convince someone that something is true by telling them a false or fabricated
story because again she's with this guy this whole time she's with this guy they're riding
smoking weed getting food blah blah blah her boyfriend calls her she panics gets out and says oh
I was at my girl my my homegirls house her mom came home she went crazy and she kicked me out
now I'm just standing outside and I don't know what to do as if she's in distress and then she's
going to call her homegirl that she's talking about and they're gonna do a three way call a
three way phone call she's going to add her friend to the call and her friend is going to merge it
or she's going to sell it she's gonna make the whole story believable so here we go
and like kicked her out the crib and now she's just standing outside her homegirls house she
don't like and she don't know what to do then she's gonna call up her homegirl and her homegirl
is gonna merge it no prep time you add her friends to the face I'm called or her friend yes bro my
mom she just came home bro and she kicked my friend out and now did it and then she banged it
and this nigga sitting here this nigga fell for the shit hook by his anger okay so she's
gonna call her homegirl and her homegirls gonna merge it her homegirls going to sell it by the way
merge it like I said I've never heard that in my life that's got to be like some new slang that
the kids are using these days you may never hear it again after listening to this episode I don't
know but you should know what it means now just know that I have never heard or said this in my
life. Alright.
So anyway, she added her friend to the FaceTime call with her boyfriend. There's three people on the call now and her friend is saying all this stuff
Yeah, oh my god. My mom came home and went crazy. She kicked her out. I don't understand blah blah blah. And then she banged it
Now this is one of those I don't know exactly what he meant to say when he said he banged it
I just assumed based on the context. He means she hung up the phone
But again, I don't know. I'm just using context clues here like she adds her friend to the call her friend sells the story and then
She banged it to me that either means they they finished the phone call and hung up or
When he says she banged it, maybe he's talking about the friend who successfully sold the story
Maybe he just means that she did it successfully. I honestly do not know
So anyway, he says
This nigga sitting here, and he fell for the shit. He fell for it now to fall for something to fall for a
Trick or a lie some type of deception
Well, that's what it means you you were deceived in some way
So if she's telling you this story and is not true
She made you believe something that is not true. You fell for the story. You fell for the lie
You fell into this step. You were deceived. Let me just stop repeating myself. You were deceived in some way
She tried to sell this fake story. You bought it
Which means you fell for it. You got tricked
hook, line, and sinker. You may not have heard that because he said it really quick this phrase this idiom hook, line, and sinker
just means
To completely believe or accept something without hesitation
Without any doubts without asking any questions without verifying any information. It just you were tricked in some way very
I don't know if I would yeah, I would say very easily and
Completely, and this is a fishing reference
When we say hook line and sinker it's in reference to
When you go fishing you have the hook the line in the sinker that you use to catch the fish if you're watching on
YouTube you can see this right here at the bottom is the hook the fishing hook
This long line is the fishing line and this little metal ball is called the sinker and we call it that because it makes
The very light
Fishing line and fishing hook actually sink to the bottom of the pond or the lake the ocean the river or whatever as opposed to sitting on the surface of
The water where a fish may not see it
It sinks lower in the water so the fish can actually see the bait in the hook and you know it happens anyway
Also just in case you're wondering this this little object right here above the sinker this red and yellow thing is called a
bobber and this is what makes the the line or the hook actually bob up and down in the water as opposed to just floating lifelessly
In the water. We're getting a little too deep into the details now. I mean
Most of y'all may not even be in the fishing, but a little fun fact for you. So anyway
They they sold this story her friend is you know really making it believable and the boyfriend he fell for it
He believed it hook line and sinker
So the reason he says hook line and sinkers. He's like bam got him too easy
He fell for it. They deceived him. They tricked him. You understand what I'm saying?
All right, I've been talking for a minute so I'm gonna go back a few more seconds so that you hear all that again
I'm gonna go farther than that. Hold on
Jake no prep time. You add her friends to the face. I'm called her friend. Yes, bro. My mom. She just came home
She kicked my friend out and none of it and then she banged it and this nigga sitting here
This nigga fell for the shit hook line sinker. He's gonna come get her ass back in my passenger seat pick up her ice cream and okay
You can drive now
And on God I pulled off but like yo no prep time though
Okay, so again, they sold the story hook lines and sinker blah blah blah. So after that
She's gonna come again that she's gonna do something even though we're talking about the past
She gonna come get her ass, which is another colloquial way of speaking
I did an episode about that. She's gonna get her ass back in my passenger seat
Pick up her ice cream and say okay, you can drive now as if nothing happened
So then he pauses he if you're watching on YouTube you can see the shocked expression on his face
And then he says in on God I pulled off
On God I pulled off now this phrase on God something that a lot of young kids say these days. I don't know
What region of the country it came from who started this this trend, but when somebody says on God
It's a way of saying I swear
Because historically like when I was a kid
Whenever you were telling somebody something and they didn't believe you
They would ask you to swear that you were telling the truth and you would have to swear on something
You know how when you go to court, they make you put your hand on the Bible
That's you swearing on the Bible that what you're about to say is totally true. You are not going to lie
You cannot lie
After having sworn with your hand on the holy Bible that you're telling the truth
So we take that idea and if I tell you I did something crazy and you don't believe me you would say
Swear on something and it has to be something important to you something you love swear on your mother's life
Swear on your kid's life swear on your soul that what you're saying is true
And what we're saying is if you're lying your mother's going to die if you swear on your mother's life
Somebody says I swear on the eyes of my children. They're saying if I'm lying
My children will lose their eyes or my children will die you understand?
So we take that idea and we say on God like I again doesn't make sense like I swear on God
That what I'm saying is true
See I doesn't make like literal sense. It's just a way of speaking when people say on God
They're saying whatever I'm about to say next is the truth
It's just a colloquial way of speaking. Okay, very very very informal mainly used by very young people
So he says on God I pulled off and to pull off
It's that the the opposite of pullover. So remember he pulled over which meant he stopped the car
After all that crazy shit happened she gets back in the car and says, okay, you can drive now and so he pulls off
He starts driving again
And so the reason he says that and on God I pulled off is because some people listening to the story might think
There's no way you just kept driving like nothing happened
And what he's trying to emphasize is yeah, I fucking did
After all that crazy shit happened on God I pulled off like it was nothing. What you crazy? Of course I did
And then he finishes by saying yo no prep time though
So this when he says yo
Like that. It's just the it's like an exclamation
When you see or hear something crazy or that you want to call attention to you just like yo
You know what I mean in this case it's like yo, that was crazy the word yo doesn't mean anything
Literally just expressing emotion
Like you're surprised or excited
Impressed or something of that nature. So he's like yo, no prep time and prep time is short for preparation time
What he's saying is he's very impressed that she did all of that without any time to prepare
She got out of the car and immediately came up with the story immediately called her friend her friend immediately
Sold the story and her boyfriend fell for all of it
No prep time didn't even think about it. She just did it and
He's very impressed by that. So I know that was a lot my friend. Hopefully now it all makes sense to you
If you got any questions leave them in the comments
But I'm gonna go back as I always do and play the whole video from start to finish one more time and
We'll see how much more you can understand here we go
Shorty posted on her grand notes who could come scoop me?
No, I'm not doing shit. I had to I had to put her to inspection make sure I wasn't about to get lined because she passed inspection
I'll go scoop her in my car. I smoke her buy her some eats now. Why I don't know where she gonna start panicking and my passions or she told him some oh my god
Oh my god, he's calling you pull over let me out the car
What her nigga is calling her phone and she she is begging me to pull over so she can
Jump out my car so she can pick up this niggas phone call
Honestly, my first instinct was to just keep driving because fuck you me and pull over my nigga calling me
We not worry about that nigga right now. Oh fuck it. I'm gonna just pull over on this shorty out
Right, she jumped out my car. She picked up this niggas phone call
I'm sitting in my car across the street from her just just looking is listening in the middle of nowhere, right?
She don't like it and she don't know what to do then
She's gonna call up her homegirl and her homegirl is gonna merge it no prep time
Get out of her friend to the face. I'm called or her friend. Yes, bro. My mom. She just came home girl
She kicked my friend out and now did it and then she banged it and this nigga sitting here this nigga fell for the shit hookline sinker
He's gonna come get her ass back in my passenger seat pick up her ice cream and okay, you could drive now
And on God I pulled off but like yo no prep time though
Brother what?
Well, there you have it, my friends.
That is quite the interesting story there for you.
Now, whether this actually happened or not,
only he knows, okay.
I'll reserve, I'll save my opinions,
or I'll keep my opinions to myself in this particular case,
but it was an entertaining story.
And hopefully now after all the explanations,
listening to the clip multiple times, you can understand.
If not everything, at least much more than the first time
you heard it, that's always the goal.
The goal isn't necessarily to be able to understand
and use every word and phrase immediately
after listening to this episode.
That's just not how it works.
I mean, I'm pretty sure you know that.
But by explaining these things, these speech patterns,
this slang, these colloquial phrases and ways of speaking,
hopefully it'll help you understand.
Not only this video, the next time you listen to it,
but just other American people,
when you hear or speak to them, you know what I mean?
That is the true goal.
And I want to do more of this kind of episode.
I hear crazy stories on TikTok and Instagram all the time.
And I think it's a good way to showcase
how Americans really speak when talking to friends
or family or just to the internet in general,
because that's real American English speech.
It's unscripted, very informal.
There's a bunch of different accents and dialects
that you can hear, and everybody loves stories.
And I think it's a really entertaining way to learn.
And to teach you guys, you know what I'm saying?
So anyway, that's it for this episode.
My friend, hopefully you enjoyed it.
