The hosts discuss their personal lives, professional experiences, and travel preferences, highlighting their deep connection through shared self-tape auditions and a strong, respectful relationship with Arlene. They emphasize the appeal of quieter destinations like Turks and Cacos for its peaceful, beach-centric vibe, contrasting it with overpopulated tourist spots. The conversation touches on their wedding, which was planned quickly due to scheduling conflicts and resulted in a small, intimate gathering that felt authentic and meaningful. They reflect on the importance of in-person chemistry and real emotional connection in auditions, noting that physical presence and genuine energy often surpass the quality of pre-recorded tapes. Michael shares enthusiasm for a new indie film that resonates with him due to its emotional authenticity, while both acknowledge the industry’s limited appreciation for actors beyond mainstream hits. Personal experiences—like attending F1 events or watching shows such as Euphoria—are presented as joyful, grounding moments that reinforce their values. The discussion also reveals a deeper respect for authenticity, spontaneity, and personal growth, especially in relationships, where they value freedom and real connection over traditional or public setups. Ultimately, the episode blends personal storytelling with industry insights, emphasizing authenticity, emotional depth, and the joy found in simple, meaningful experiences.
Do you and Arlene do tapes together? - We do. - Oh, I did, I remember that. - Wait, self tapes. - Yeah. - Let's be clear. Wait a minute, wait, wait, wait a minute. - I said yes. - You'll put that clip back, clip back, clip back, clip back, clip back, clip back real quick. (upbeat music) - Last ones of the airport buying breakfast. (upbeat music) - What's the spot that Drake likes to go to in Turks? - No, it's orc. That's where the pub. - Yes, no, it's like, thank you. - I want to go with Drake goes. (laughing) - Wait, you with? - No, it's orc. - I don't know. I don't know, that's it was so crazy. - It's fire. - We have to go to Turks and Cacos. We have to go to Turks and Cacos. - Please, I need it. - No, no, we have to go to Turks and Cacos. But like, so tell me like what's the good part about it? Like every time someone's like, you gotta go here, like I need to know why. - All right, so it's nothing insane. Like I would say, it's peaceful as hell. It's peaceful as hell. The water there is mad, blue and nice and sexy. You go there and chill. You know, it's like a nice beach island vibe. The nightlife was pretty fun. Like the parties and all of that. The food out there is good. It's a lot of girls. - Yeah, for a lot of girls. - For me to not go to like, 'cause when I go to like, I like Portugal, I like Spain and Ibiza. Like I like it out there. - Yeah. Like those places are real full, full experiences. - Yeah. - So that's what I'm saying. Like I would rather go there than, but like Turks is like easier to get to - Yeah. - How long do you get to? - For me to get to. It was like, like three hours I think. You know, like three hours. - Yeah. - We had a layover in Atlanta. But if you're flying, 'cause we were in South Cacos. And South Cacos is like, hella private, private beach. You could do any and everything that you want without other people seeing. So. - Like what? - I'm sitting there. Like, like, like. - Like, what are you trying to do? - I'm just saying, okay. Put it like this for y'all. If y'all wanted to like take your little sneaky link or somebody you don't want to mention, know about you go to South Cacos - Yeah. - Because it's chill, it's low key is calm. Now you go to Provo, which is probably where you were, where Noah's Ark and other stuff. You gon' be seen. - Over there in Tialas. - Like, yes. I didn't even try to say it. Thank you very much. - All right, I'm with it. - Yeah, over there people gon' be in your business. - In the business. - People gon' be there. - I'm not mad at that, but I do like ducking off. I like, I'm trying to take a Portugal trip in the next couple months and figure it out or maybe go to Spain, but. - You could take one of the girls from. - I don't want to take any girl anywhere. I just want to, like, I don't want to go with a girl. I want to meet a girl there. That's what I like doing. I like meeting a girl. - That's the vibe. - It's the best. - Like, why would you, you know what I'm saying? Like, 'cause like, like, you bring a girl there and then like, you see a girl from there, then you're cooked, 'cause like, if you want me like, or I fly in a nice, one of my little German influencers, I fly them over. - With the white toes. - Yeah, with the white toes, you know how it goes. But, the thing is, like, you bring the sand to the beach and then you see some more fine or sand, like some, you know what I'm saying? Like some, then you're cooked. Like, now, you know, the chances are cooked. It's always nice meeting a shorty from the country that you're going to. - I agree. - And then they show you around. They know the language, they know where to go. They order free, all of it, it's the best. But, all right, here's what we keep doing, 'cause we keep having our friends coming on and then we don't introduce them, we don't say. - Oh, we just remember one. - It's happened every episode we just did it again and people were like, you didn't, what? You guys know who this is. What are we talking about here? We got Latoya Tonadeo in the building. She's in here. I've been asking her to come back on. Everyone's been asking for her to come back. We just had Alex back on. We had Paige on. We need another toy episode. You've got hosted a couple times. Yeah, I think this is now my fourth time as a guest. - Wow. - But then I co-hosted twice, I think, totally. - So you gotta be the most person on here. - Yeah, I'm like a series of regular. Oh, we're coming. I'm a recurring. - She's like, give me that money. (laughing) - Caesar regularly. - Something like that, yeah. - That's so funny. What's life been like? What you've been on? You're married now? - I'm married now. - So when was the wedding? - Last year, thank you. Last year, June, yeah. - And did you guys just like popped out with a wedding? - We kind of did. - Yeah. - Because we didn't realize that we had been engaged for too long. We were engaged for a long time. Like, like-- - You were dating Arlin since-- - When I was on Goat, here's the thing. So like every single time we tried to plan a wedding, it just didn't work out because I would be filming in New York. And then Arlin would be in LA. And then when I'm done, and I'm back in LA, now Arlin's filming in why at the time, Florida, and then he ended up booking the show in Atlanta. So it would always be crazy, yes. Like, we were always in different places. And then because we didn't always know when we're gonna start back filming, I was like-- - And as an actor, when you're working, work. It's like you can. - There's no way we were able to plan a wedding. And film, like, when not me, at least. I like to be in it, I'm a tourist, okay? I'm like, in it. So yes, we finally got it done. And we planned it in a month and a half. The reason why we did it so fast was because literally, we were like, we don't know when Arlin's going back to film. So we just kept it small. It was 48 people, our immediate family, and just like a small few of our closest friends. - It's my brother's planning a wedding too. And like, some people he's inviting, I'm like, I wouldn't even invite that person. Like, that's why I'm like-- - Why? - I don't know, I'm just like, it's just so much. I'm like, why would you invite that person? - It's a lot to do. - You don't even really know them. So like, I'm kind of like that where I'm like, I think I want like 40 people. I want a bunch of people, I like a birthday. I like that, but like a wedding is like, something different, in my opinion. - I mean, we would have done it bigger. Because I wanted my family here too. But like, it was, it was just would have been crazy to try to plan that so fast. 'Cause literally, we planned it in a month and a half. Usually people plan for like six months to a year. - Also, you need like a confirmation, right? - Oh yeah, too. - So if you invite 100 actors. - Oh God. - And you don't, they would on our schedule? - A week before you could go, I've booked something. I'm gone. - Exactly. - And there's that plate that's like 300 plus per person. - Is it? - So weddings are expensive. - That's what I'm, that's also what I'm saying. - Okay, to be honest, listen. I have nothing against weddings and all the things. I'm happy. But weddings are a scam. I will be honest. Weddings and funerals. It's a scam. They charge so much for everything. So yeah, but at the end of the day, I see all that. But my wedding was beautiful. - You had a fun guy. - And I had a great time, so yeah. It was worth the scam. - So where did you and Arlen meet? - We met through a mutual friend, just this friend's at first. The guy, he's now like, I call him my industry uncle 'cause he's a director. Like I remember CYBAR, 'cause I'm a rambler and I like to kind of call-- - That's why I love that how you want that record. - You're talking, you're calling the right guy here. - I rambled. - But literally, the guy who I'm talking about, I call him my industry uncle because I remember even with the sex scene for power, like my very first sex scene. - What was it? What's it? - With Celine, Diana and Celine. - Celine, Diana and Celine. - You're so stupid. - Oh, who is Celine? - Pety. - Oh, Pety, yes, yes, yes. Sorry, I don't know, I just forget sometimes. - Yes. - I forget the-- - I mean, it has been a minute. - Yeah. - It has been a minute. But literally, that's who I will call. - Look. - Yeah. - That was your first sex scene. - Yeah. - Wow. - Yeah, yeah. Like, naked. - Wow. - Yeah. Like, we had things but never, not like-- - Never liked it. - Okay, okay, I'm sorry. - Yeah, but anyway. - Yeah. - So, literally, that's my guy. - Yeah. - Like, that is my industry uncle call him for everything, but that's who I met him through. And I just remember, like, I was like, damn. I don't even have a good actor. Like, I didn't know him like that, but I was like, excuse me, can you hook me up with your acting coach? 'Cause I didn't feel, I was like, I'm not that good. So, like, I started going to his coach, and then, yeah, like, about a year and a half later, we ended up meeting at, well, talking more at same guy's house and hit it off. Yeah, and our first date was like at the gym. - What? - He loves the gym. - So wait, so how old? Who made the date? What happened? - We didn't know it was a date. Like, we didn't realize it was a date until after the gym. Like, we hugged, and like, you could just feel that energy and the hug kind of, like, lingered. - You and Arlen went to the gym to get, he invited you to the gym with him? - Yeah. - That's a date. - But I didn't-- - He knew he was gonna show off a little bit of the gym. - That's what I think. But I look stupid, 'cause of him. - So these guns are quick, I don't say it. - I mean, he didn't look good. But here I am, not knowing what the hell I'm doing, 'cause I was in a gym person. Like, what the hell? Now I am, though. Now I am. - Because of him. - And also, I just wanna look good and feel good. - You look great. - It's the best you've ever looked at my face. - Thank you, oh shit, thank you. I thank you. - It was a compliment for sure. - No, thank you. - But Arlen is the best. I love him. Like, I remember, it was so funny. He's been in everything. - Everything. - I was watching like a Friday the 13th from like, 20 years ago, and he was in it. - Yeah, he's been in the industry. - Well, I was watching a final destination, I think. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - Yeah, yeah. - I have seen Friday the 13th, but I have seen Friday the 13th.
the final destination five years. - Yeah, he works like he was just in found. And did they did three seasons of that? - They did two seasons. And then unfortunately a lot of shows on NBC got axed. And it was one of them. Yeah. - Great. - But weren't they trying to bring it somewhere else, I think? - I believe it's currently on Netflix right now, if I'm not mistaken. - But they're trying to see if they can achieve it. - I think so. - I mean, that would be good 'cause third season from what I know would be fire, let you know. It is what it is. - You know how it goes? - Exactly. - It's crazy. - Okay. (laughing) - That's hilarious, I love it. So, wait, Mike, so you just went to ABFF? - Yeah. - I wasn't. - Yeah, it was fire, it was fire. - You were with Petina and Makai and everyone there? - Yeah, I've seen them after the screening for the movie. I felt like last summer, a girl that I saw them, they came into the room where we had the screening after. I was like, oh shit, I don't even know that it would be good. - Oh, girl, that, can you tell us a little bit? - Yeah, was that your first time seeing it? - Yeah, it was my first time, so what was your gonna say? - No, I just say what you think, how was it? - It was fire, honestly, yeah, it was super tough. It was slick directed it, you know? - Oh yeah, yeah. - Sick is super tough. But yeah, it was a good, it was a movie, bro. It definitely exceeded my expectations to the fullest. I knew it was gonna be a good movie, but I was watching, I'm like, no, this is actually very exciting. - What's it about? - Marseille did, it was basically about this girl, she's from New York, what she lives in New York, and then she moves to California to kind of reconnect with her dad and everything. And it's basically just like a story about them kind of just going through their ups and downs with their relationship and everything. And it's just like, it's just a nice story, you know? Just showing, like, and who do you play? - You know, just like how I play this character named Ron, like he's just like one of the people that she ends up meeting out there, like one of her friends and stuff. So she meets like a group of, you know, group of kids, and I'm like one of the kids in a group, you know? Yeah, I'm just kind of like, you know, just like a dumbass kid in that movie, like this one. - Would you say it's different from Tareek, or like? - 100%. - Ooh, nice. - It was, yeah, it was a lot of fun, like, yeah, I didn't have to be all like dark and emotional shit. - Yeah, do you think it's gonna be like a film festival, like Sundance, like South by Southwest type movie? Is that what they're trying to do with it? - I believe so, yeah, I think so, yeah. And then I think it's gonna do really well in, in, you know, whatever festival they ends up being in, 'cause the feedback that it got at the ABFF was pretty like, pretty solid. And they had a second screening today, so I'm, I wonder how many people were able to watch it, because there was like 500 people, like 400 people that would end up trying to watch it, and like only, like 100 people wasn't wearing, like it was like 100 people that weren't able to get in, so like, not everybody that was there to watch it, was able to watch it. So I think today, I think they had like a bit of a bigger screening for it, so I'm wondering how the feedback was today, but a lot of people were there, they was rocking with me, like the crowd reactions while we were watching it with dope. - That's awesome. - Marseille was super good in the movie, like Corny B. Vance, that's the guy that plays the father, like he killed it, he went crazy, so yeah. It was a good movie, bro, it was a good movie. I loved watching it. Like I literally was watching it, like I wasn't even in the shit, like I just, was just like, I don't know, I was just watching like a fan, like I showed it, that shit was good. Slicked it, it's thing, with the OD. - Well, I can't wait. - So when is it supposed to- - And it was fire too, 'cause one of the, my bad, but it was, one of the producers, like one of the executive producers, he was the one that, he produced a love, my first movie in America, that was also that ABFF, like 13 or 14 years ago, maybe. Yeah, so it was like a super cool, four-circle moment. It was fun. But what are you saying to you? - I was gonna say, when does it drop? Like, I wanna see you. - That, I have no cool, I'm not gonna lie. I have no cool. - Yeah, I probably waitin' to sell it or something, huh? - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - I think this is a year or something. 'Cause sometimes when they bring it to like ABFF, and then it'll probably, what are we in, what month? It'll probably- - June almost. Next is maybe, can just happen. Tiff and then Sundance, like they bring it to festivals so they can sell it. But like, it's so weird. This is what I wanted to talk about. How, like, people see us as like famous actors, like people watch power. But it's like, we don't get any industry love. So, weirdly enough, if that movie went to Sundance and crushed it Sundance and did really well, but nobody saw it except people in the industry, that would do better for Michael's career. - 100% yeah. - Then if you just did another spin off of power, another season of power, it's like, that's kind of like, this is a perfect thing for you, Michael, which is why I'm so excited for you, is because a movie like that, like a slice of life, industry movie, that's gonna be at the festivals, is gonna be so good for you because it just like, that's what we need. People already think we're like, oh, no, it's like, they don't understand like, how really the industry works is like, you need the industry love to get the bigger stuff, like sometimes people will go backwards to go do an indie film to show what they can do, as opposed to like, people have been on a hit show for 10 years, but like, they're just like, yeah, but that doesn't matter, like, what, you know, or can you do a slice of life movie to the people in the industry like you like? - I love that you call it slice of life movie. - Yeah, that's where they call the movies, when there's like, really. - I didn't know that, but I love that, 'cause that makes sense, a slice of life. - Yeah, a lot of those indie movies that like really make people's careers are like, really set people up to have a long career and do the big, big movies are like, always kind of slice a life. They're not like, murder, like all this crazy shit, it's just usually like, okay, like, this person going through a real thing, or, you know. - Slices of life. - No, you never heard of the movie. - I don't think I ever heard that. I love that. - Yeah. - I learned it today. - I'm literally slice of life. I'm literally just slice of life. - Yeah, it makes sense. - And it's just like a lot of like, natural comedy in it, like it was just like, it's just cool, it was a nice movie, like, light-hearted. It hit every emotion too, like, it made you laugh. It made you get a little emotional. It might be a tear-jerker for some people, depending on where they come from or what they went through it, you know, whoever. - Yeah. - Yeah, it was it. - Where did you shoot that one? You shot that one in LA? - Yeah, we shot in LA, yeah. Shot in LA. I was there for like, I shot for like five days. - Oh, I remember when we were out here. - Yeah, yeah, I remember when you were out here. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - That's good. - Yeah. - But, hello. - Five days? - Yeah. - I did all my scenes, like, in a row. - Back to back. - Quick facts. It was quick facts. - That was fun though. I'm mad as hell, it was only five days, bro. - Let's get to this bit that you just had on. I think you just posted it. I don't know when this is gonna come out. But-- - This would be out in Tuesday. - It was like the, the, the, the shoulders? - Oh, yeah. I commented the, the football. - That was so clean, man. - What was that for Michael? - That was, um, Fendi? - What was that for? - Oh, no, that was for, I think. - Oh, no, that was for the Fendi one too. - I think that one was for when I went to the Gothambo, the, the-- - Oh, right, yeah. - He had like a gala. - You been on your fashions shit lately, huh? - Okay. - You know, you know, let me chill in, but like, when it's time, you know, when it's time, you know. - It's, it's so funny, okay. - It's so funny 'cause I know the way Michael, like, he's doing his Michael Rainey Jr. Instagram, it's very like, proper and like, he's got, like, he's got fashion this night, and me, I'm just posting sex. - Ah, it's, yeah, it's the boy. - You know, I keep that for the way it's 20-20, you know what I'm saying? - Oh, actually, it's a boy. - That's really obvious. - That's for the other side. - Yeah. - And then-- - It meant to the show for, I think, 50 posts today. - Of course, of course. - Oh my God. - You're always funny. - Is she posted this one amazing? - Yes, she posted it. I went to, um, David Dobrik was just doing like, a party for a scary movie, and I saw her there, and obviously I did like the music video with, uh, with the baby and her, so I see her, what up, sexy? Her and Lizzo performed. And see, this is what I just told Michael. I'm like, if I had a girlfriend, I couldn't do this, because I go up to her on the right carpet. - But you would have been on it. You would have been in some deep shit. - That's it. - Oh, it's the boy. - No, but like, but like, I went up to her and gave her a hug, and I'm like, hey, sexy, we started talking, and then she's like, let's get a pick. I was like, all right, take the pick. And then she bends over in front of me, and then she's like, let me get one like this. If I don't know if, like, if I had a girlfriend, I don't know what I would have done in that moment. - Oh yeah. - Would I have been, oh, no, no, I'm sorry, I can't. There were a hundred people on the carpet watching the conversation, so I'm like, I would have, that would have made her feel weird. But so if I had a girlfriend, it would have been a fight no matter what. - That's a rough situation for sure. - You see what I mean? - I've been in a situation like that a long, long time ago. - What happened? - Sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches. - Well now, I don't even explain it. Like, baby, no, she been down in front of me. - That's what I'm saying. - What are you doing? - I'm already preempting thinking of arguing it. I'm having fake arguments in the car home with my girlfriend being like, she bet in front of me. - Well, this in the pick was fire. - That's what I'm saying, see, I couldn't have done that if I had a girlfriend, but go out and like, I wanna hear what happened with you. - But this is a, this is a wow bag, like a wow, wow bag. But I had a girlfriend at the time, and I was in Jamaica, I went to a party, and they put me on a spot, but they dragged me Sunday stage, and they played this song. And they just, they just got a girl. She just came and she just started throwing, throwing the, she just started throwing ass on me. - Okay. - Me as a Jamaican, you know, that's for both of them. - And this is in Jamaica, so they really, they're dancing, they're dancing, they're dancing. - Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Like, that's the culture, and then one, that's the culture too. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not.
ducking that like man like what we doing that's and then um and then the next day they like it got posted and everything and I guess because like everybody knew like I had a shorty already they kind of like made it like more than what it really yeah yeah I'm Caribbean bro like it's what we do bro and then like I had to deal with it's like she was all sad and she I felt a little bit bad you know I'm saying but at the same time like yo it's my culture like you know what I'm saying like it's not this my culture you go blame it on a culture I'm crying yeah I got a blame on the coach because I couldn't I couldn't I couldn't I couldn't I couldn't make my I know but I can't be that's what I got to do I got to get a girlfriend to be like I'm Caribbean I can't like I got to do it no literally literally literally literally exactly that's so funny um yeah so that's why I feel like I don't know if I don't know if I could have a girlfriend because I just I get in too many sticky situations where I'm just like that wasn't even playing it just happened and then she posted and then I just live it man yeah that's what I'm just living what up y'all we're gonna take a quick break from the say that Aaron judge is gonna get a hit you can say that Jalen Brunson's gonna get more less than 15 points and you can put it in one lineup and it makes sports so much more fun to watch they even have a pick where you could predict if Sabrina Carverter is gonna go to the next game or not and all I know is if Sabrina Carverter is at that next game I'm pulling up to they have picks like Will Drake and Metro boom and make a song together this year Will Drake perform in 2026 Will Drake and Playboy Cardi make a song together I mean dude this app is amazing it's so much fun make sure you download it tell them the boys sent you use the promo code crew back to the episode do you feel like you can't do things that you want to do because you're married or not that you want to do but like do you feel like is there less that do you get when I'm kind of like you mean out of respect well I respect your industry or stuff that maybe like you you feel like you're miss maybe missing out on something not missing out on like other people but like experiences I love how you're saying all these words and then you're pulling them back yeah but yeah but like I just have so much respect for Arlen so I'm not like being like you wish you were single but like definitely now do you wish like like can you not go to certain events or this or that do you in that way no I definitely don't feel like I'm missing out on anything interesting um as far as like going out yeah like people will tell you or even Tierra because you you guys both know Tierra very well me and Tierra were pretty like close and she's well wardrobe on yes yes she has been around us in different spaces in different rooms and literally she said to me the other day she was like I really love how like you and Arlen can be in the same space but not up under each other oh I do like that yeah like I he trust me I trust him we don't feel like I'm gonna be up under you make sure you like no and I don't like that and he don't like that like I'm gonna be respectful yeah like no like I so no I don't I don't I think I answered your question like when you had when you had a relationship like was it like was like when you went certain places or discern things like was your was like was just really like all upon you making sure you mainly because she should have been because the second she the second she went the other this group and then I went to the next group kissing another girl on the cheek I thank you all for coming there was like 500 people there and I was going for people to people to people and it was the best I know if I had a girlfriend I'm just like it was the best it was so fun if you have the I don't know how to say also if you missed out if I gave you guys options to buy tickets was it not the best night ever it was the best like literally the like the best lineup yeah CP was rushed shout out CP he crushed shout out Donald Rowling's he said that he was not sex with my mother for five minutes no so I'm in the second role there's a camera right here to the left he walked look straight into camera and he was like Kathy I was like oh my god I'm looking for Kathy I'm like is she here Kathy's his mom by the way I'm looking I'm like is she here he's like wild it was so funny he was the best Michael couldn't make it he was at ABFF it was very kind of a business as a business business always comes first but shout out the Ova had the meanest the meanest foam a row I'm like bro it was you run it back yeah I don't know I feel like what do I do for I can't beat that it was fire and even people who have had the craziest birthday parties it was packed they came up to me and they're like this was this was like one of the best parties out there of anyone I'm like I didn't realize that this was going to be your whole thing I thought that it was like you know what you call black Sundays chocolate oh what is called black sundays I said chocolate sundays I said darker sundays I thought that it was like you know on chocolate Sunday or something like you were gonna have a section of all your people no it was the whole the whole place we sold we sold 75 tickets for people from the podcast that was crazy and the rest was all my friends and I had all my favorite comedians performed that was crazy me I didn't tell anyone this but me and my homie CJ went up on stage and the roast it made that was hilarious it was it was just so much fun that was so much fun so we don't have to keep talking about it oh sorry sorry look at him he is looking like it was good though I mean you can run it back you can do it again I feel like I kind of like I don't know you literally could do it again you don't even have to wait for your birthday could be like a summer thing and even more people are gonna show up because that one yeah and the way people are talking about it you know please okay maybe I mean I don't know the you want to show one is like the owners of the laugh factory came up to me and we're like this is the best night we've ever had and it was great it was so much fun so that's maybe maybe crew has honestly we're gonna do a live podcast we're planning on doing a live podcast hopefully for Michael's birthday hello yeah so maybe we'll do something along the lines of that I'll have people that yeah that would be dope we got to have toy in there because you got it you got it like yeah CP 100% and he loves power you say you're gonna be cook so do you like the hangover we can please okay do you and Arlen do tapes together we do oh I did I remember wait self tapes yeah wait a minute wait wait a minute you'll put that clip that clip that clip that clip that real quick they make all in a toy make tapes together I was like I was like we do yeah I'm like wait a minute shit actually hilarious self tapes but not other tapes just self days we do self auditions yes all this is um do you guys argue okay so in the beginning yes like it would well let me not lie I'm lying a little bit
It was bad in the beginning because like I would feel like I know everything and he would feel like he knows everything. And I'm like, I'm reading it right here and literally it's the emotion is giving this, but at the same time I understand that you need to emote and you do your background work and to figure out who your character is. Today where we are, it's much better, where we self tape, shout out to Dr. Self tape, where we self tape, they may not say the same thing because depending on how I feel. Like if it's something that I'm not that excited about, not that I'm ready to get it done with fast, it's just like I'm not really connected, but I did my work and I'm still trying to make the best of it. And he will like, with best intentions, he's trying to make, I don't know how to explain it, like sometimes I feel like he's doing a little too much. Yeah. Sorry. He's going to want this episode. Oh, he wanted every episode. Oh, you don't want this episode. I will say they do call me a lot Mike and there will be like that episode is so good. Yeah. Shout out to you guys. Absolutely. So no, he's definitely going to have something to say. Like, no, I'm not. I'm just saying like you could do it this way. Yeah. Um, but yeah, no, I just pass in it. Passionate, man. Passionate. Yeah. Yeah. Where's Dr. Self tape? Um, it's in Hollywood off of Vista Doma. Every tape you go to a self tape studio, you don't do them at home? Um, yeah, for the most part. Wow. Because like, I just love how it looks. I love how it sounds. Yeah. Um, also there's so many other actors. How is it different feeling too? Yeah, it makes you feel like you are going out in person. Exactly. Exactly. Even I've done. The one from the crib is like too comfortable. Yeah. And then my set up ain't right yet. I'm trying to figure out my set up at home. Um, but I love it there because like even the self tapes, I'm sorry. Um, the chemistry reads in the callbacks are good there. Yeah. Like, and I've gotten, I mean, I didn't get trouble. My loves chemistry. But they definitely complimented the, the tape. Oh, it looks so good. I'm like, okay. Hell yeah. Have you read for anything recently that you've gotten closer that you've really liked or something? Um, yeah, but it didn't go my way. Um, it was, I had a chemistry read, um, with, I'm not going to say it, but. Yeah. Um, chemistry read and the actor was like super giving, super cool. And I love that like even though it was over zoom, it's still, I hate over zoom. It was with another actor. He wind up booking it. Oh, he, he, he, it is his. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it was with him and it was nice and he, you know, we played ball. Uh, and I just compared it to another chemistry read that I had, um, in the past with someone. And they gave me nothing. Yeah. And I was like, in my mind, I was like, does this person just not want me to get it? Because why are you playing with me like this? Yeah. So essentially what a chemistry read is. Like it might be laughing on the way. Yeah. It is, is when an actor has a job or they could have two actors who haven't booked it yet. And they're mixing and matching, trying to see like who has chemistry to book the job to see if these two people are right together for the role. Yeah. Now, I wish they did that more on, I wish that they did it more on power. Oh. I wish that they did it more with our love interest and people like that. Yeah. Because when we're running and gun and shooting, they're just like new love interest, new to that. Yeah. I felt like, you know, some people I didn't have the chemistry with, some people I did have. And, uh, I wish they did it more because it would have made the show better. Um, but sometimes it's just not how it goes. Yeah. Or time. Right. Or money. But, but I think, um, I think they're very important. Yeah. It's so important. And that's why I prefer in person chemistry. Because it's chemistry. Yeah. It's energy like. What show is it for? We'll believe it. But what show is it for? I'll tell you actually. Okay. Okay. Yeah. But the person that was hella cool. Yeah. That was the most recent one. All right. And I love that even though it was over zoom, because in my mind, I was like, I wonder if this is going to be like, but it wasn't like, uh, I didn't get it, but it, I definitely booked the room. Oh, yeah. And that's also another thing too. It's like, you go out for these auditions, even when you're not connected, even when I'm not always connected to certain characters or it just doesn't feel like they're going to cast somebody that looks like me, but I'm still going to go and do it anyway because I want to book the room. Maybe it's a casting director that we've talked about before. Maybe it's a casting director that, yes, the culture knows who Gianni, Tariq and Diana are. But the casting, they may not know us because either we've been away for a long time on power or they're not familiar with the show somehow. So I'm like, you know what? I'm going to take this audition, even though I don't really like the character and I'm going to do my best so that I book the room. And literally, that has been my saving grace because those same casting directors have been bringing me in for so many other things. All right. I feel like I've been dead against them when I didn't get it. I do, especially if it's good. Yeah. Like, I'm gonna still watch it. I get sick to my stomach. I'm like, I can't. And sometimes I'm like, okay. That makes sense. Yeah. Like, you know, and sometimes I'm like, huh? I can't. I can't ever give the Michael. Do you watch stuff that you that you didn't book or now? Oh, hell yeah. I watched this shit on F1. You audition for F1? Yeah. Oh, what? I want to see your tape for that. Fuck. I never knew that. I didn't know you read for F1 either. Delete it. What was the scene you had to read for? Do you remember? That is dope. I don't remember. I don't remember. Once I watched the movie, I didn't even remember anything about the tape. I was just like, it's fire ass movie. The movie is fire. No. Yeah. That was one of my favorite movies. I walked out of there. I was like, I want to go to F1 race. I know. Like, I never cared before. And now I'm like, I want to go. I will say. Well, F1 races are so fire. Yeah. Well, then let's all go. I want to go. I want to go. You should. I want to go. I want to go. You should. I want to go. You should. I want to go. I want to go. I want to go. You should. - I am the one, how was that? - Yeah, I went to Miami, that was fire, that was fire. The thing about going to the races though, you don't see a lot of it in person. Depending on where you are, you just see that one part of the race. But it's really just the experience though, the whole thing. You could watch it on the screen in the suite and everything, but we were posted about one of the straightaways. So we saw basically the fastest part of the circuit. So we were just seeing them fly by at 215 miles an hour, but just walking around, food, the people that are there, it was like you were running just on the most random people, like you would ever think. But it was fun, it was fire. - Yeah, I think Price picks now as a deal with McLaren, I could be wrong, I don't know if I'm spilling some info. And he's like, you'd have to root for McLaren. I'm like, brother, I don't give a fuck for him. - Real fast. - Yeah. - Okay. - McLaren got some good ass races though. Orlando Norris, he's telling him. He's telling him. - But right now, Kimmy and Tinelli's killing it. - Yeah, I don't even know. - Bro, he's like, he's 19. And he had like four podiums back to back. - Oh, damn. That's crazy. - Yeah, four, back to back, like four wins back to back. - Yeah. - He races for him in Mercedes. - No, yeah, he's, no he is, he races for Ferrari. He races for Ferrari. Him and Charles and Crane. - It's weird, they each go by like a different car company. - Okay, okay, okay. - But then they split up. - Yeah, 'cause he was just with Mercedes. He was with Mercedes for a minute. And then now he's with Ferrari. - I think he was with McLaren before Mercedes. And now he's with Ferrari. - Yeah, we all go. - That's crazy. - You got that crazy. - Let's take a shot. - Come on, hello. - So have you, did you, have you guys watched Nemesis yet? And have you watched anything recently that you guys? - Yeah, I just finally finished it. - I haven't watched it yet.
I know I haven't had time, I've been so busy. Is it good? - Yes, you should watch it. - I know I've spent literally traveling. - Shout out to Courtney. - Yeah, shout out Courtney. - Period. - It was good. - Yeah, it was good. - So obviously a lot of the literatures are watching, like what did you like about it? What were like? - I liked that. It was definitely given from the police perspective. - Oh, cool, interesting. - And then also too, and I think if I'm not mistaken, don't quote me, I think I saw something or Courtney or was it an article I can't remember. Maybe, maybe not. But she was talking about like how it's not always like with ghosts, you know how ghosts was cheating on notorious character Tasha, right? In this case, these men, at least now in this season, they're not, there's no infidelity. - Oh. - Oh my gosh. But you don't need the infidelity for it to be sky-speed. - Who? - At least not yet. - That's it. - They better be cheating season two. - They're so. (laughing) - You're such an idiot. - There's so many things happening in the show that you don't even miss it. Like I actually enjoy seeing that this man, I don't know how to say his name, so I'm not gonna miss it. - Yalan, no, that guy. - Yalan, okay, that's pretty. - Yeah, I'm called Trump, Jamaican, this is it. - Oh, period. - I'm pretty good. (laughing) - Yeah, like I love the dynamic between them too, like their relationship, shout out to Gabrielle Dennis, who plays, I don't know, I guess his real name is Matthew, his character name is Isaiah. She plays his significant other, like the dynamics between the relationships are really nice and to see how they navigate it. So yeah, I say watch it. - And they're, and they're, they do heists. - Yes. - Cool. - So it's no drug deal. - Yeah, it's no drug deal. Not yet, at least I don't know. Right now, they're still in diamonds. Okay. - That sounds fine, that sounds fun as hell. - Blowing up, like, what, it's, I ain't gonna get to it. - Who's the other drug clue? No, we want, most people have probably seen it. - I can't think, yes. - She's so fine. - Oh my gosh, they all do a good job. - But Woody Redford, didn't Woody get pretty far in one of the roles? - I think he read, don't get me to quote in lie. I don't know, I wanna say he might've read for it. - Yeah, 'cause no, 'cause I remember seeing Woody at a Woody McLean, played Kane, shout out Woody. He was at one of the-- - Well, I've seen him buying one of them characters. - Yeah, I, and I think they really wanted him for it. I don't know whatever, like again, you never know. - You never know. - It's like, his height could have been different than the other guys' height. - Oh yeah. - And they didn't do like, how it looked on camera. You're just like, all right, like, that's true. - That's just how it goes. So, but I remember seeing him at some event, some Emmy event, and he was like, oh, I'm out here reading for Courtney Shoes, and you showed him. - Oh, I love. - They flew him out to like, chemistry red, but again, you remember-- - Oh, yes, in person. We love a chemistry reading person, thank you. - I just didn't know if you knew what role it was. - Yeah, I don't remember. I feel like we vaguely talked about it, but I can't, I don't know. - Yeah. Have you watched anything else recently that you've liked or that you've-- - Is God is. God is. - What's that? - It's a movie. I just saw it. - Is God is-- - What is it? - Fire. Is God is. You have to watch it. - What is it, what is it? - It's an interesting name. - It's, it's, it's, at the theater. Like it's in the movie. - Oh, fire. - Yes. Oh, it's like different. Oh my gosh, why am I blanking on everybody's name right now? Kara or Kara? I saw her and she was, she's an actress. She did Broadway purpose. - Uh-huh. - She's a fucking man. - Yeah. - She's so good. - What is the movie about? - Oh my gosh. It's about twins who were burned when they were younger and their mother, their actual birth father set them on fire. We'll set the mother on fire. And by way, set the kids on fire. This whole time, they thought that, yeah. So they have like special effects, like makeup and everything, they look all burnt up and stuff. And their twins and they go on like this vendetta to go kill the, their dad. Because their mom told them, like, kill, you know, you gotta kill this person, and they see her as God. Like, so one of the twins is like, well God said, you know, I don't know, it's different. - Okay, no, I love that. - It's, it's, it's really good. - You gotta watch it. - Okay, all right. - And everybody, like every actor in there killed it. - Okay, hell yeah. - Like, you're passionate about that. - I got to see this now, yeah. - I was like, it's fire, like, see. - I was so inspired. I was like, I can't wait to like get another scene. Like, I want to get an audition. Ended up getting an audition in a couple of days. After she, I was like, yeah, and I was ready. I was doing my background work. Like, I'm in my background. My backstory, like, I was, it's so inspiring. - Do you do that for every audition? - No. - I don't do it at all. - Not for every audition. - Yeah. - Okay, I don't, I hope my manager don't see that. I just, I just, and I don't want to sound lazy. - You don't, but- - 'Cause you know I'm not lazy. - At all, but there are some things that you like, I just got, I have a tape right now that's sitting in my inbox. It's for some indie that I don't care about. And I'm like, I have no interest in doing this. But I turn down a lot of stuff. 'Cause I'm like, if I don't wanna do it, I don't do it. - Yeah. - Because I know I'm not meant for it. So I feel with what you're saying. - When I am really, and don't get around- - I feel like I'm not a lot of shit, I be getting it. - Yeah. - Like, you don't, don't get me wrong. - Michael's like, it's not F1, he's not reading. - No, that's crazy. (laughing) That's crazy. That I love that. Like, F1? What the hell? Anyway, what the hell? Oh! (laughing) Like, if it's a character that I really like, or if it's a room that I really wanna book, then I'm gonna do the work. And I may not do a elaborate backstreet and have my paper are written on, 'cause sometimes I'm not gonna lie, some stuff don't, in my opinion. - No, of course we are. - I feel like we need to be required. Thank you. - Right, yeah. - Without sounding lazy. - My issue is, is I see other people's tapes. I've seen other people's tapes. And I'm like, actor, they're bad. People are bad. (laughing) I'm just gonna say, I've seen other people's tapes, and I'm like celebrity's tapes that I've seen. I'm like, they're bad. - Yeah. - So that's sometimes how I feel where I'm like, and they're booking, and they get the job. And I'm like, I've seen booked tapes. And I'm like, what? - Yeah. - So that's why I'm like, sometimes it don't even matter. They just are looking for a certain essence, or who you are. - But that's why I feel like in the room, how are you gonna really, if you're not in the room in person, how are you really gathering that person's essence? - 100% I agree with you. - Have you gone into the room, either of you, like recently? How does it feel? - It feels great. I love the room, just because that's who I am anyways. - Ah, yeah. - I'll go in and I'll-- - I prefer the going in. - Yeah, I'll just cross the room. Also, what I've tend to realize is that they'll like, sometimes like, I'm good at taking directions, so they'd be like, try it like this, and then I'll hit the note, and they're like, that's what we wanted. As opposed to a tape, they're like, ah, well, we're not gonna make 'em retake, but we don't know if he did it the way that we wanna do it, so then they just won't even reach back out to you. - Yeah, yeah. - I love them. - I love them. - That's one reason I love the room. 'Cause that's like, I'm literally like, UG, like, you give me a note, I'll hit that shit right on the head. - And take it. - But the tape, you just gotta just do the shit, bro. - You doing what you think is best, and not even knowing what the note is or what the direction is, because if you give me the note, I can adjust. - 100%. - But if I don't know what the note is, I'm just taping in my room or somewhere. - Dude, sometime, I mean, they talk about this all the time or they're like, auditioning is so not the right thing for, it's the best person doesn't get the job. - Yeah. - It's the best auditioner. It's not the best actor, and it's just like, people are, I've seen this where, where Don Cheetle has talked about it, where the audition process is just so broken and not correct, that it's just, it's not even right at the moment, people are just good auditioners. - Yeah. - And it's, you know, booking the, it's a lot. - Do you guys, you know how sometimes the self-tape information will say you can request a Zoom? Do you ever do that, or you just do a self-tape? - I used to not, until recently, until my team told me to. - Really? - Because I was like, I'm not zooming. I'm gonna act to a pixelated screen. Like, it doesn't even, it's not even real. - Lagging. - And then my team is like, - I generally haven't done, but I like that. - Oh wow. - Yeah, that's a huge job. - Maybe I should. - Yeah, I like 'em 'cause they're able to give you notes and stuff, but as far as like just acting, like you said, acting towards the screen, like I rather just do that shit on my phone, but I like the fact that you could get notes and kind of just, you know, give them a few different ways or how you could do it. - So, that's the plus side of Zoom. - I did just read for the new creed that Michael B. Jordan thing. - Shut up. - And I bombed it. - No. - I zoomed it and I bombed it. - Are you sure? - I hate the Zoom. I'm sure I bombed it. I call my team and I was like, I bombed it. And they're like, taped for it. And then I taped it, but I was like, I bombed it, it was bad. - Are you sure? - I'm sure. - 'Cause, you know, as actors, we could be overthinkers. - I think I posted on my close friends, I was like, I've never bombed an audition like that. - Really? - It was bad. I don't know why it was just off that day, but yeah. - I don't believe you, but if you say that, then I believe it, I guess. (laughs) - Hey. - And it did, it was bad, I'm telling you. - What are you guys watching? - I watched an episode last night of something very bad is gonna happen. Have you seen that yet? - Oh no. - Always fire. - I've seen like a preview of it. I don't think I haven't watched it yet. - It was so weird, but like, I weirdly. - It's a weird ass. - Yeah, so weird. - Is that the like, where they're like, getting married or some shit? - Yes. - Yes. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - I've seen the preview. - That's crazy. - That's what it's called, it's fire. But it's funny, when I have a girl over, 'Cause you can't-
be like, I have a problem where I'm on my phone too much, right? - Okay. - I just saw Project Hail Mary. I either need to see it in the theaters, or I need to have a girl over where I can't be on my phone. You get what I mean. - Yeah. - So, and theaters I saw Project Hail Mary, unbelievable. One of the best cinematic experiences I've ever seen in my life, it was unbelievable. Ryan Gosling was so good in it. But then, last night I saw something very bad is gonna happen. But it's 'cause I have a girl with me, sir, you can't be like, texting like other-- - No, you can't be like. - Right, that's it. So, you're just sitting there and then you're actually locked into something, you're go, damn, this is actually fire. So, I'm starting to just put my phone away and do that more. What have I watched recently? Like, that I watched the whole season of. - Are you guys watching Euphoria? - I was just about to say, I watched a few episodes of it. It's crazy 'cause I didn't watch the first season. So, I'm not really too familiar with the storyline. Obviously, you know, a little bit of the first season, but I just like the way you throw your shot, but like the way you look at it, they do color grading. It's just like madness. - Oh my god, cinematic, like those shots. - It is very cinematic. - Well, I saw something, someone posted today that actually reposted how everything on Netflix and all these shows, the lighting is perfect. The coloring is perfect and it looks so fake that it's like-- - It's the lighting, dude. - No one wants to watch any of this because it just looks too perfect and fake. It's not cinematic. Euphoria is, but the story is, and it's very like, it feels like kind of all over the place a little bit, and even though I do like that-- - It's kind of over the place. - Yeah, but there was a role this season that I was pretty close to on Euphoria. I got so close to it that I actually called five and I was like-- - Euphoria? - Yeah, because-- - This season that is-- - That's happening now. - Let me try this. - And I called five and I was like, I'm close to this role. And I was like, you wanna nubbed it a little bit. But I don't even know what-- 'Cause I wanna have was gonna do Fightland anyway, so it wound up not working out. And then I didn't do Fightland at all. So then it just was like a whole whirlwind of like things that were just not meant to happen. - Why am I trying to figure out what character-- Oh, I'm sorry, was that loud? - I think I know which character you would have been one of the Nazis. - What? I didn't know. (laughing) - No, I just didn't-- (laughing) - No, like there's not this season. I mean, that's the only other-- - I think I was like, he would have been-- - I don't even know. - I feel like he would have been the dude that's like in the, I don't even know, 'cause I haven't really been-- - With Lori, they have this watch, this statue. - Nah, it wasn't that, that's crazy. - No? - No. - Did the character have the girlfriend? - I don't even remember really. - Yes, the girl, the point, she's like the, I don't know. - I would wind up not being available for it. And then I was available, but at too late, because after a fight landed, it was the whole thing. Anyways. - You would have murdered it, if it's one of the three brothers. - She's like, if it was a Nazi, you would have crushed it. - No, I'm like, what the fuck? - Wait, you first of all, you know I'm not a comedian, I'm not that quick. - No, like, no, not like that, like, but the characters, they're good characters, they just so happen to be Nazis. - No, I don't know. - I don't know how to, get out of this hole that I did. - No, you're hilarious, it's so funny. I don't know, I'm trying to think of something that I binge, I've watched the whole thing. I mean, obviously, Mobland was my favorite show of last year, but we talked about that. - I don't know. - You should watch out of Tom Paramount. You and Arlene would love that. - I need to. - I gotta finish up. - Are you an acting class right now? - No, yes. - Where are you? - You don't have to say it, but like-- - Oh no, well, I mean, I do privates because she's not working right now in LA, but the Catlin Adams. - Shut up, Catlin. - She's the best. - And so what do you do? - And she was, like, it was very, like, I mean, it was, okay, Catlin is one of those, if you know you know, type, but it was very, like, she only works with working actors because the way she moves and teaches, whatever, but she has her clientele's crazy. Like any top person you can think of, they train with her, like, to this day. And then Zoe Sadana, and when she won her Oscar, she mentioned how she works with Catlin all the time, and then Catlin was like, which is great, but then everybody started trying to come to the class, I was like, oh, now y'all want to come. - Yeah. - No, Catlin is the best, but she is brutally honest. She will get into your ass if you are slacking. Like, she's great. She's great. Like, when she starts teaching again, you should come to one of the classes, at least just audit, or when you're back in LA, like, what was I supposed to say then? - Yeah, yeah. - Oh, okay, I didn't know if he's supposed to be not in LA. - It's like, Toys, so nice that she's too nice, almost, it's so fun. - I don't know, whoa, when you're back in LA, I was like, what was I supposed to say? - We're trying to get him back there. - Yes, then, you know. - So, when you do train with her, like, you zoom with her, she's out of town? - If I'm out of town, or she's out of town, - And what do you guys like work on? What do you think? - Scenes, we work on plays. And even though it may not necessarily be for something that's actively happening, like, the things that we work on, or even in class, like, my animal. Do you do animal work? Okay, y'all like, what the flake? - I know what you're talking about. - What is she talking about? - But I just think a lot of it is unnecessary, like-- - No, animal work is not, I will say it's beneficial. - And how, so what, and explain this, please. - I'm probably gonna make it sound so not worth it, but, like, pretty much, let's say, depending on your character and what your character is trying to gain, but you're trying to mask it, you can pull out the panther, or you can pull out the wolf, or something, and you take in those mannerisms and how they hunt. Look it, look it, look it right on the left. (laughing) And then, you know, you guys get up on that. - Okay, okay, okay. - This sounds like you're getting some way, though, like, I want to, like, it sounds-- - I'm getting somewhere, but it's like land. Okay. So-- - No, no, no, no, no, no, no, take your time, take your time. - I don't know how to explain it right now, but it's, it helps you navigate a scene. It helps you navigate your character and their need without playing the idea. - Okay. - Does that make sense? - Yeah, of course. Yeah. Like, for example, if I'm playing a lawyer, and I'm a shark of a lawyer, I don't have to go in and play the idea of what I think a lawyer should be, or sound like, or look like. But if I have that animal instinct of whatever animal I chose, the wolf, the panther, a shark, whatever, then it-- - No, I agree. - Then it emotes, and it comes out of you-- - It's choosing. - I don't like to say, naturally, truthfully. - Yeah, yeah. Do you do that for every tape? - No, all of that. No. But, like, because some characters, I'm just like, "I can't find it." - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Yeah. - No, I like that. - Yeah. - And do you do that with her, with Katelyn? - Yes. I learned a lot with Katelyn. Even Woody. Woody has-- Listen, I told Woody I boasted about Katelyn for so long, and Woody loved her. He met with her. He did privates with her. He's even come to class. I think he came to class twice when I was there. - But she only does workshops and stuff. She's not, like, full-time ongoing. - Well, she usually is, but she took it to New York, too. So, she's kind of been doing classes in New York, but she's right here in LA in Hollywood. - Yeah. - You should come-- - Oh, I will. Next time you go, let me know. - Yeah, she's dope. She's dope, and she does sensory-- - Like, all the things that, when you're feeling step, she's the one who I got there, huh, from-- - Oh, okay, yeah. - Yeah. - Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. - Before scenes, toi, when I was going, "Huh! Huh!" - And on set, like, do something like that. But, like, I don't know. I'm just always, like, whatever works for someone-- - Yeah. - To get into it. - Yeah. - I personally am at a point in my career, where I'm, like, a lot of it-- seeing what tapes people are booking. - Some of it just doesn't require it. - 98% of it doesn't require it. - It just doesn't require it. - I'm at a point where I'm seeing people's tapes booking stuff, and I'm, like, animal work does not fucking matter. - Exactly. - When I'm seeing this guy do this type of work, and he's booking the job. - Exactly. Like, I don't want to sound like that, but you're 100%, right? - Yeah. - I'm like-- - I think how I feel. - Yeah. I know what I bring to a room, and I'm like, yeah. - And not only that, too. There's two things I want to say, 'cause I'm really good at starting to say something, and then don't complete my thought, and then I'll go home and lie down. So anyway, 'cause-- - I should've said that. - Again, I'm a clerk. - Yeah. - I will say what she does teach us, though, even if you're doing sensory animal work, backstory, my-- I don't care what technique you're doing. You do the work at home. When you get to set, you throw it away. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - You don't go in there and bring an animal. - Yeah. - Like, you don't do all that. Like, you did that at home. - Well, when you were-- - You go it away. - Let's get into this with the Diana stuff. So did you do all that in your audition for Diana? - Not in my audition. I don't know. Nothing about no to animal, no. - Okay. But when you were-- when you were going to set, did you-- - Eventually, like, for the dinner table scene, I tried to bring in an animal, but what's crazy is, by that time, I felt like I-- - The animal was-- yeah. - What did you say? - What animal? - What animal was it? - Yeah, I got it. - I tried to feel like-- I feel like after playing a character and doing the work for so long, and you don't-- it's who you are, in a way. So yeah, you also, too, my other part that I want to say, sometimes you can overwork things and you do it.
to all that work and your tape could be shit because you did too much, as opposed to just letting it be. So you have to find a balance, I will say that. - Sometimes I just play it by ear, you know? - Yeah, you find the balance and see what works for you. You don't have to do animal or sensory to r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r. (laughing) - No, I actually I agree with you because like, yeah, I've done the years of the work for acting costume. I'm just like, I'm at the point where I'm like, I don't. - Because some tapes that you see, you're just like, huh? - Yeah, but then again, like say, for example, I'm not like saying I'm too good for acting costumes. Like, if I were to like Timothy Shalma get a complete unknown where I have to play Bob Dylan. You better bet your ass I'm doing the work. - Yeah. - And I'm doing it like that. - You could play Bob Dylan. - Thanks, she's like, you why? You could play a not-see-your-bob-dylan. - No, my God. (laughing) - I'm honest to me. - No, but then you got to do the work. But like, I'm getting like, tapes were like, oh, I'm playing, you know, this love interest on this show. I'm like, yeah, I could do this in my eyes closed. You know what I mean? - That's true. - That's sometimes how I feel about some of these tapes and then you watch the tape for the person at both of you. Like, you got to be like, it don't make sense sometimes. - Yeah. - I don't know. - I love how you're, she's being so coy about it. I'm like, I'm-- - No, it don't make sense. It doesn't make sense. - I'm not being coy about it. I've seen some of these actors and I'm like, oh my God. - Yeah. - She's not just pulling out old bullshit. - Yeah, yeah. - I'm tired of it. I'm kind of seeing bullshit on TV. Plus a lot of the shit that is called, it's horrible. There was a show, there's a show that came out recently. I'm not gonna say what it is. It's so bad. - Oh my God. - And it's blown up. It's big right now. - Okay. - But it's so unwatchably bad that I-- - I'm trying to think. - And I read for it and it's so unwatchably bad that I'm just like, just everything about it is bad. And I-- - It's not work or cable or-- - Question for both of you guys. When you get a script, right, and you read it, and you're like, this is good. - Yeah. - But then, I guess, well, how do you decide if it's good because I have read scripts and then I would see the movie or the show and I'm like, that's not how I imagined it. - Yeah, well some of the director, we'll fuck it up. The director or even the actors. Like, I think to make a great project, everyone needs to be on their game. The director needs to know, needs to do good. The actors, I think, can fuck up a great script. Very easily if they don't have chemistry. Like, realistically, shout out Courtney because the first episode of "Power" is unbelievably written. Who knows if there would be six shows, if there would be six seasons and three or four spin-offs if Omari wasn't how good he was. - That's so fast. - We don't know. It very well could have been someone else. - No, it would have been quite if Omari. - To carry this mini spin-off. - He really? - To carry this. - This is the foundation and it just blew up. - Right, so Savory and Dibble, they cast someone else as ghost and people, it might have gone two or three seasons and then stars might have said, let's pull the plug on this. - That's crazy. - So true. - I think so many things need to go right for a project to actually be great in my opinion. And that's why we're seeing a lot of horrible, not, I'm not holding back. Horrible shit on television right now. Horrible movie being made, bad actors. - Even your auditions that you're getting. There's the self tapes and you're reading it. You're like, bad writing. - I like a lot. I give a script, the least 20, actually the most. I give you like 15 to 20 pages. If I really don't feel like reading anymore of that shit, it's quiet. - Have you ever turned down something thinking it was horrible and then saw it and was like, damn I missed that. I should have auditioned or I should have. - Mike, have you, I don't think so. I think I'm a pretty good gauge on what I like. Mike, you, nah, I don't think I have, nah. - I remember when, what was that show? The show that Madeline's on. What's it called, Michael? - Outer Banks. - Outer Banks. When that script came out, I remember being like, 'cause I read this script and I was like, I did that this with two shows ever, Yellowstone, because I read for like a prequel character was only like a couple episodes. And I was like, and this is when Paramount Network was nothing and I was like, this show's gonna be fucking. - Yes, and it is. - Yes and then I did that with Outer Banks and it was so funny because I called my manager and I was like, I have to go in and read for any role on this because this was pre-power and I remember being like, this show's gonna be fucking huge. My manager said to me, which, she's not my manager anymore, but shout out to him, we got a good relationship. He was like, he was like, this is not gonna be big. This is like, be like- - Yellowstone? - No, no, no, no. - Outer Banks. - Outer Banks. - And he's like, this is like the level Netflix. And I remember being like, no, these kids are gonna be superstars. Now obviously like, the issue also with the show that just came out that I think is horrible. The issue with a lot of these young adult shows that these kids blow up overnight and they become phenomenons, but then they get stuck on it for four or five years and then the writing becomes bad and then they fail, they fizzle out. And then there's kind of stuck in this weird in-between phase where they have a following, but like people don't take them seriously. So like look like there's no right way to gauge this industry like look at us, like we were on a hit show and like now we find the next thing, like those kids are on a hit show and like then they're stuck on a hit show. It's like there's no right way to do this business but I think that's why I like it so much. - Yeah, you just do. - Yeah. And then whatever happens happens, like someone will pop, someone this. It could be five years down the line. Toya could book a small little movie. - I have you. - But I'm just saying like, it could be tomorrow. (laughing) - It could be tomorrow. - I won't buy you. - It's like, yeah. - All right, it could be six months from now. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - I'll do this little, little, little indie movie that could blow the fuck up and then you're an overnight movie star. - Although, let me be clear, you're right. It could be five, like people can go literally five, 10 years for those- - Yeah, and 30 years Toya could book a movie and it could actually be something. (laughing) One thing for sure, Toya, me, I am not sitting around waiting or no, like I feel like in today's world, you have to be, at least in my opinion, more than just an actor. - Oh, of course. - Like, you wanna produce, if you write or you write well, you wanna write, you wanna freaking direct. I mean, it might be a little too soon for us to be like, "Oh, I wanna direct this episode of whatever." But like, at least start going in that direction because waiting for anything like this is crazy 'cause you're literally waiting for somebody else to tell you, yes. - Yeah. - Oh, yes, you booked it, no. - Yeah, you can't. Like, any, yeah, no, no, no. - You have to do that. - I mean, luckily, I shadowed a lot of directors when I was on, when we did, 'cause I wanted to direct, now they've never let us because, you know, they didn't want any of the actors direct. But it prepared me to do the MGK Wiz Khalifa music video. So like, I was grateful that I did all that so I was able to do that too, but like, yeah, you gotta be able to do it. Now there's no actors that are just actors. Like, those guys are gone. Like, the shale maze in them, like, that's it. The new wave of people are like, people who do everything. Look at the kid who just, did you see obsession yet? - No. - That kid got $970,000, he's a YouTuber. He got $970,000 from a studio. That was his budget to make this movie. It made $100 million in a week. - Okay. - And I bet you he probably had a big chunk of that because, you know, it was a small budget, whatever. - Yeah. - $970,000 for people who don't know is so small for a movie. - Yeah. - And he made $100 million off the first weekend. - That's crazy. - I think they gave him, like, I could be wrong. I think they gave him, like, north up 20 million for his next movie now. Cash, for him to do it. - Oh my God. - Just this bitch. - Oh, you already wrote something? - I have stuff written that I'm pitching. - Oh good, good. - But people think it's like so easy to write. - It's not. - Yeah, people think it's like, oh, just write something and then get it made. - No. - It's just as hard as acting. - It's an art. Like, literally, people look, I don't think I want to act now. - Yeah. - Okay. - Yeah. You still have to do your fucking work. - Yeah, it is a lot. But, okay, Toya, this is your moment. As we're wrapping up this episode, obviously we'll have you, I'll have you back until fucking, we're 100 years old and we're doing it. - Amen. - Crew has it, episode 1685. Is there anything we'll give you a minute to think? Is there anything that, 'cause I know the way you are. - Oh, what does that mean? - That Toya is thinking, I should have said that. I should have done this. I should have done that. We'll hold space for you while you do your animal work. To think of something that you wish you said, you wish you brought up or you wish you talked about. - A lot of you do your animal work. - I know you so well as a person now. So, now I'm gonna give you this moment. - Well, if you know me, (laughs) you will know that I don't have the answer. I'll know it when I get home and then I'll be like, Johnny, um, um, no. - All right, all right, before we go, shout out the next on Tuesday. - Oh yeah. - Wednesday, Tuesday, Wednesday? - Wednesday, Wednesday game Wednesday. - Okay, the episode comes out today. Tomorrow, Michael's so excited. We have to talk next. Who do you think they think they're different? - I will literally give my kidney. Both of these kidneys for the next to win a championship. - Michael. - Would you actually, though, if they came you and said, here's a kidney for the next to win, would you do it? - Yes, I'm so dead-ass. They could take my kidney. - That's crazy. - I do not. - I'm so dead-ass. I'm so dead-ass. - That's crazy. - I can live on one kidney out. - Are you going any of the games? [BLANK_AUDIO]

FAQs
Yes, we do self-tapes together, and it's a common part of our audition process. We've been doing this for a while and it's become a regular part of our workflow.
I prefer in-person auditions because they allow for real-time chemistry and direction. Self-tapes can feel disconnected, and actors often don't get the same feedback or adjustments that happen in a live room.
Yes, I did audition for a film related to F1. I didn’t get the role, but I ended up watching the movie and was inspired by it—now I want to go to a real F1 race and experience it in person.
I saw 'Is God Is' and thought it was fire. It’s a powerful story about twins who were burned as children, and they go on a vendetta to find their father, whom they believe is God. The performances were excellent and the themes were deeply emotional.
Yes, I do. Even if I didn’t get a role, I still watch the auditions and shows. I find it inspiring and often get new perspectives on acting and storytelling that help me grow.
The real-time direction and chemistry. When you’re in a room, you can adjust immediately, take notes, and respond to feedback. It feels more authentic and connected than a self-tape.
