We're gonna start off by talking about a number of topics we got lined up for you guys. And in the second part of the show is where we're gonna take your live comments and questions. If you've got a topic or question, go ahead and fire it on in. All right, guys. With that down, let's get things started off with this, shall we? You know, I went to go see Resident Evil yesterday. And I. It's weird because, you know, I'm not. I like a good horror movie, but I'm not like a huge horror aficionado like some other people. But I like a good horror movie, but I've never liked any of the Resident Evil movies. They have their fan base, and that's great. They work for some people, and that's wonderful. But for me, they've never really really clicked. But. Zack Craigor was doing this one. And I love his movies, where they're talking about La Barbarian or La Weapons. He's great. The French-Canadian in me coming out. He's wonderful. So. Maybe yes, maybe no. Well, I went to go see it. And for those of you who did not see my out-of-theater reaction, I freaking love this movie. This movie. is one of the most fun experiences I've had in a movie theater this year. It is 90 minutes of pure, crisp, all thriller, no filler, go, go, go, wonderful dilemma, like just enrapturing you right into the experience of it kind of movie. And this dude, all I could think of throughout the entire thing was this poor guy. And then something else would happen. I'm just like, this poor guy. Like the entire movie. Wait till you watch him in the belly of a whale. Yeah, which is also. You're really going to be like, this poor guy. It's like, oh, this poor guy. If it's not like some kind of monstrous mutating zombie-like creatures, it's giant squids and whales. Yeah. So I. Nothing wrong with that. I just fell in love with it. I was caught up and wrapped up into it right from the word go. And it's got a diehard-ness to it. And what I mean by that is that, you know, diehard is this thrilling, violent, action-packed, high-stakes kind of movie, but that is peppered with absolute hilarity as it goes. Like they break up all this stuff with great moments of humor as well. And guys, this movie does that. Like the moment it starts to feel like exceedingly dark and horrible, and there's lots of moments of that in this movie. Like this is a gory, violent horror movie, but then it mixes that up by letting you as the audience member reset by having a really good laugh. And like, again, much like in the vein of Die Hard or something like that. And I just, I did not think it would be possible for me to be as entertained as entertained by a movie like this so thoroughly and so beautifully exhaustively. It's, again, the gore is great. It's a very crisp movie. It moves very quickly, has fantastic pacing to it. And the dialogue is all great. The moments that he's having in terms of, you know, internal dialogue versus external dialogue is wonderful. It's just incredible, man. It's just really, really incredible. And here's the interesting thing. I was pleasantly surprised to find out I'm not the only one. Because as of right now, Resident Evil holds a 91% audience rating. 91% audience rating. And more importantly than that, probably is a 96% critic rating. Now, what's really interesting, about this critic rating, is that it now officially makes this Resident Evil movie the highest critically rated video game adaptation movie of all time. As we go over and take a look, and we got Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at 69%, Angry Birds 2, which I don't know why that's on the list, but there it is. Tied for second is Werewolves Within. Remember that one, guys? It's got the T-Mobile girl who's like one of the stars of it. So that one, not many people saw it, but it was a great movie. It was really good. It was really quite good. Then, of course, you got Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which I really adored. But right there at the top is this new Resident Evil film with a 96%. And again, it's not just the critics. A 91% audience rating to go along with it. And it is well-deserved. It is so well-deserved. And you know, it's going to bring up, I've seen a lot of discussion and debate online about this too, about some of the, the diehards of the video game. Is, does this movie follow any of the particular stories in the video games? No. It's set within the context of that game universe. And that in no way, in my opinion, disqualifies it from being a true Resident Evil movie any more, guys, than the Sonic the Hedgehog movies have nothing to do with any of the specific games. They, it's just, it inhabits that world. It's a movie that inhabits the world. Fatefully of Sonic and their good Sonic movie. And those movies are great. This is a great movie. And it may not follow any one of the particular things, but there's no denying this movie dwells in the world of Resident Evil. And it, they just did the most important thing. They made a great movie. And I know people get mad at me when I say this, but it's true. The number one job of a storyteller is not to be as accurate as possible, to the source material. The number one job of the storyteller is to make the best, most entertaining movie possible. That's job number one. And guys, they did it. Zack Craigor does it again. He's three for three as far as I'm concerned. He can do anything that he wants to. And if he wants to do a Smurf, you make a Smurfs movie now and you put directed by Zack Craigor on the poster. I'm just going to believe it's going to be awesome because he's shown that he can do it. Anyway, he had a great time. Smurfs movie. We don't need another one. No, we really, really have not. Anyway, Rob, I know like when we saw the previews for this, you were quite intrigued by it, interested in it. What have you been hearing from people about it? Are you surprised? Again, the highest critically rated video game adaptation movie of all time already. The audience ratings are through the roof. What is standing out to you when you read through the reviews and you're hearing all the feedback? What are the things that are standing out to you? And is there anything that's surprising you right now? Well, first of all, I've got my ticket to see it this afternoon. Oh, nice. And I, you know, I prepped for that and I was ready to go. Now, I had read the script for this movie and one of the things that struck me and Zach Kreger has said this. He flat out said, I wanted to make a Resident Evil movie that replicated the experience of somebody watching another person play Resident Evil. I haven't heard him say that, but Mission Accompanied - Right, right? - 100% mission accomplished. accomplished so so when you when i read the script the whole thing about resource management and finding things finding weapons then where do you find the shell casings and all that it was even in script form it was i think he talked about how he had to cut humor out of it that he made it too funny and he cut back on it but i'm like first of all apparently resident evil fans just want to see a recreation of the games some some of them do there's a lot of resident evil game fans who love this movie i yeah of course because it it the the point is it's a side story you know he's like okay if raccoon city if this really happened what would it be like if some poor schmuck just stumbled into raccoon city with a zombie outbreak that had no idea what was going on you know and and and that was the the assignment and zach crager uh set out to do just this as a a person who loved the game and when i read the script i was like wow if he can pull this off i thought it was going to be genius i i thought it was so it was so well conceived of i mean he the great thing about zach crager is his unique voice it doesn't matter what he's doing barbarian he's an auteur he's a writer director and this is him attacking ip you know there's there's been wasn't there an animated film a couple years back that was close to games with the characters or whatever and i mean the the guy is animated ones yeah they're yeah the guy is an incredible filmmaker and he this this is it's his fourth movie you know it's like quentin tarantino the fourth movie by quentin tarantino the fizz fourth movie that he shoots starting in january called flood yeah i read an early incarnation of that remember they came out on stage and talked about it at cinema con they talked about that sounds amazing let me just tell you i just call it the space movie um if he if if he pulls that off it's going to be his pulp fiction or his kill bill or whatever i mean he has done a bang-up job of of staking a claim to his own voice and he he effectively took this uh an ip that we've seen how many movies what six seven or live action and then all the other animated films and he made it his own and i think that if you go in understanding that he intended to create the experience of what it was like because survival horror games like this can be damn scary and watching people play them i have i have jump scared i felt a jump scare watching other people play a video game and i think for me it was silent hill was the first one but people do it in resident evil too and that's what he was seeking out to to replicate and he did so he not only did he make a great video game movie but he accomplished what he as a filmmaker set out to make and apparently i haven't heard anybody say anything other than they loved the experience of watching this movie i believe it's tracking for i believe it's tracking for an 80 million dollar opening is that correct no is it again i thought i read yesterday yeah i did too that would be insane i tell you it also feels like you're watching a video game like so many the scenes feel like levels and yeah it's just and and by the way i'm not spoiling anything because this is in the trailer but the way he uses the atmosphere to create tension like there's that one shot in the trailer where he's sitting on the floor in a bedroom trying to load a shotgun and you just hear these footsteps getting closer and closer that's throughout the whole movie he uses it's they're aiming for 60. that that is used the whole idea of the atmosphere and the ambient sound and all that kind of stuff is used so brilliantly in the movie again i just had a ball with it guys i again it's a movie so it's not no movies for everybody it might not be for you and if it's not that's perfectly fine i'm just telling you i surprisingly had a really good time with this movie and i'm looking forward to going back to watch it again anyway guys question is for you what do you think about this and the reviews that residents are getting from you guys what do you think about this and what do you think about the reviews that residents are getting from you guys what do you think about this and the reviews that residents are getting from you guys what do you think about this and the reviews that residents are getting from you guys what do you think about this and the reviews that residents evil are getting? All right, guys, with that down, let's move on to this. You know, one of the things I want to start doing on the channel, back in my movie talk days, I used to do this thing called Rewind, where we would go back and visit movies celebrating certain anniversaries. Some weeks are stronger than others. But what I want to start doing here on the channel is every month, we're going to do one segment about the movies turning five years old this month, 10 years, 15, and 20. So today, we are going to start by being September of 2026, looking back and looking at the movies that this month are turning five years old. And I had to pinch myself when the first one in my search, you see the good Canadian kid, Simu Liu down here, that Shang-Chi is now five years old. And only now are we finally getting him popping up in another Marvel film, if you're not counting the animated zombies thing. So let's go over and take a peek here, shall we, at the films that opened up in September of 2021. We're going to go back, five years here, and a couple of these feel like they were five years ago. A couple of these feel like they were a year or two ago. Well, let's go over and take a peek, shall we? So these are an order of the release date. So on September 3rd, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings came out. On September 10th, a horror film a lot of people like, Malignant. James Wan. Yep. Also on the 10th, a really underappreciated Oscar Isaac Tiffany Haddish film called The Card Counter. Then a YA sexy time kind of trash movie, After We Fell. The Clint Eastwood film, Cry Macho, came out five years ago. That Gerard Butler, Frank Grillo film, Cop Shop, which I swear to God feels like I just saw that like 18 months ago. That movie came out again five years ago on September 17th. The Eyes of Tammy Faye, which I feel like she just got an Oscar nomination for last year. But that was five years ago for Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield. And Dear Evan Hansen, the film that sparked the huge argument and debate between me and Aaron Cummings while we were at CinemaCon. Some of you guys will remember that. That was fun. With Ben Platt and Amy Adams. That came out five years ago. These are all films that came out five years ago. I can't wait till we do the 10, 15, and 20 years ago one. So I thought we would take a second here, guys. And kind of maybe point out the one, two, maybe three that really stood out to us. And I'll start. For me, obviously at the top is Shang-Chi. I think Shang-Chi is in the upper tier of Marvel films. I'm not saying it's as good as Civil War. Don't get me wrong. But if you're going to break the MCU films into, say, I don't know, four or five tiers, I'm putting Shang-Chi in the top tier. I mean, I love this film dearly. I thought the action, it's some of the best action of any Marvel film. I thought the story, the lore, the villain was one of the best they've ever had at the same time. So obviously for me, Shang-Chi was right up there. But I also want to mention the card counter. The card counter to me is this little film. Now, granted, I'm a poker guy. So I'm obviously initially kind of drawn to that film a little bit, involving, cards and poker stuff. But Oscar Isaac is so good. And while I don't think Tiffany Haddish, I think she's a wonderful performer. I don't think she's a great actress per se. It's the best acting she's ever done. Like you look at something like Girl's Trip, she's an incredible performer. She can be incredibly hilarious, but it was her best acting performance, I think, was that movie in particular. I was surprisingly not a big fan of Cop Shop, even though there's a lot of things in it to really like. But I wasn't. I'm personally a big fan of it. But even though it doesn't have a great critic rating at 54%, the third one I want to mention, so I'm going to say Shang-Chi and I'm going to say The Card Counter. I'm also going to say Cry Macho. It is absolutely not one of Clint Eastwood's most beloved films. It's not the one people will bring up. And I'm not saying it's in my top five favorite Clint Eastwood films of all time either. But I thought that movie was a wonderful meditation. Clint Eastwood has done so great going all the way back to Unforgiven is actually do something a lot of filmmakers don't do or talk about. Aging. It's a subtle subtext in a lot of his movies ever since Unforgiven. That includes Million Dollar Baby and just about everything else he's done. And I just found that the themes of it, the introspection of it, I just thought it was a really good movie. So again, not one of Clint Eastwood's top five, but the three ones I'm going to point out are Shang-Chi, Card Counter, and Cry Macho. Rob, you take a look. at these films that are now not just yesterday they're five years ago which are the ones that stand out to you the most well i you know i have to second uh your comments on cry macho because that was a script that had been banging around hollywood for decades and it was many people tried to make it and clinnies would was able to make that film i believe that's his penultimate movie because then he did juror number 12 or the 12th juror which was i think his last movie before he retired as a director and um i really liked cry macho for what it was you know it's it's it's again it's not a it's it's not going to blow anyone's doors off but i think it's like you said it's a respectable film it's an interesting movie i i was caught up in it so i i like that from i'm a huge clinnieswood fan i mean he's been directed people forget that clinnieswood's been directing movies since play misty for me you know back in the early 70s and he as many movies as he starred in he's directed like 50 films or something and incredible career and uh i think kind of taken for granted really but then of course you and i saw shang chi together we saw it at the el capitan yeah i have a i have a picture of you and i like i i took a selfie of us sticking our heads in i didn't know you're going to bring this up but i i should have got it when when i have us and i have the el cap that's right i remember i remember that yeah and and you and i love that movie like you and i i loved i have two great marvel memories of the el capitan one was seeing infinity uh war with john schnapp and amy dallin and then seeing shang chi with you you know at the at the el cap and and it was a a great audience and and i i really do uh love that film i love that film as much as you do and a lot of people like look is it the paul gulasi doug mensch version of shang chi that was written in the 70s bruce lee meets james bond no it's a later version of of what it is but you know when when marvel was delving into different genres and they went into the wuxia genre i thought they did a great job that that whole opening scene with tony lung you know that whole opening fantasy sequence so good so good and it announces what it it announces what it it what it was going to be and i thought it you know this the same way i i just think it's terrific film so and then um is it meeting evan hansen forgetting evan hansen the evan hansen movie was like supposed to be evan hansen dear evan hansen was going to be this huge breakout hit and i don't not so much not so much you know it's funny the the whole conceit of it was they were getting the guy who i think was ben platt who had done done the role on stage to now played in the movie but he was in his 30s now when he's in the movie that that was the core of mine and aaron cummings big debate that we had about it are there any for you jonathan that stand out on this list when you're looking at him well cry macho like we kind of already mentioned this but it's like i felt like if you had asked me i would have said that was like two and a half years ago but it was actually five it was actually clint eastwood's last star like starring role uh and uh oh you know what you're because when i think about clint eastwood's last movie i think i think it was number two yeah of course he wasn't in that he just directed that but was was cry macho actually the last movie he was in i didn't even think about that yeah that's his last movie that he's in according to imdb that's his last on on acting role and then of course i mean like i said it earlier but we haven't seen shang chi since the end of this movie and we're finally seeing so so that alone would have made me think this is not five years ago at all there's no way uh we got to see trevor slattery come back of course he now is in my favorite movie and he's in the favorite marvel series which is wonder man um but i think what's interesting about this and we're only going to really touch on this this one time but this is when movie theaters were just coming back it was september of 2021 yeah so for for all of these movies they're in a bit of a haze for me because it was like do i want to go back to theaters that person's coughing behind me what's going on you know so that that was all in this haze of covid still uh when we returned to these movies so that's kind of something that just stuck out to me in terms of all of them um but certainly and then you know what like i this is how time compressed everything is for me i'm like yeah cry macho and then and then of course you know he did grantorino a little bit before that no no that was 2008 grantorino was 2008 that's another one i like by the way i like we'll cross that path later in these anniversaries but i just couldn't believe it so uh guys uh those are the films that came out five years ago this month next week we'll cover the 10 and 15 year anniversary films for the month of coming off of barbie greta gerwig basically had the world as her oyster she really could have done anything that she wanted to do she took a property like barbie and made it the number one box office movie in the world got oscar nominations all that kind of stuff could have done anything and she chose to do a narnia movie which i think is a very strange choice even now i still do think it was a very strange choice don't get me wrong c.s lewis is one of my all-time favorite authors i've read both of his you know fiction and his theological works as well of course but i mean i just thought it was a really strange choice anyway it is coming the magician's nephew is on the way and now we are getting some insight into it and what's going on with it as empire has just done a big article on it let's see if i can find the uh yeah there's the cover is going to be for the next empire magazine taking a look at aslan of course and they give some insight for greta gerwig into what it's going to be and i think it's going to be a really interesting movie and i think it's going to basically be now for those you don't know anything like obviously for most people when you think of narnia and all that kind of stuff understandably you're going to be thinking of lion the witch in the wardrobe but lion the witch in the wardrobe was just one of many books in the series so here's just a quick little thing on the magician's nephew before the wardrobe before the white witch's winter and before the pensive children found their way to another world narnia's story began with an entirely different pair of adventurers when young digroy and polly are tricked by a reckless digroy's uncle amateur magician into using enchanted rings they unlock gateways to forgotten dimensions across the multiverse way before dc or marvel did but their curiosity comes at a terrible price they accidentally awaken an ancient ruthless evil and bring it crashing into victorian london desperate to undo their mistake the children stumble into a brand new realm at the dawn of its creation and break into the heart of a grand adventure so this is a prequel to use the terminology this is a prequel to lion the witch in the wardrobe and as a matter of fact the one young fellow they mentioned digroy a little bit later in digroy's life he uh makes a piece of rather famous furniture in uh the narnia stories but you know that will come at some point anyway one of the most interesting things that is at least getting the most conversation right now it may not be the most interesting but it's the one thing that everybody's talking about is the fact that greta gerwig has confirmed that the streep monster the greatest actress of all time meryl streep is going to be the voice of aslan now the role of aslan in the magician's nephew we're getting right back to the very beginning okay so whereas these kids are like they find these portals the wood between worlds is what they call it in the books where they go into different realities and they end up in this wonder reality that's totally it darkness it's at the very beginning of its creation and emerging out of the darkness is aslan who literally in the book sings creation into existence aslan comes in and sings and stars and the skies and the world appears as he literally creates this world but unfortunately they the kids accidentally brought an evil into the world with them and this becomes the whole basis of the entire story of the magician's nephew damn kids it's always the kids stupid kids never let kids do anything always causing trouble so anyway so meryl streep's going to be doing the voice of aslan and that is an interesting choice especially now greta gerwig goes in and she kind of explains that she never was actually looking to get a female voice for aslan at all she just kind of described what it was that she was looking for this is in variety's article when they wrote this greta gerwig said i wanted someone who was profound but not pretentious who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness someone who could communicate to the world and to the world depth and pathos as well as joy and delight gerwig told empire in a cover story i wanted somebody who was older than me than 70 so there was a wisdom of experience in the voice but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder like a child and also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it that list is not a long one and then she goes on to say that she just kind of came down to making it meryl street is going to be the voice now as a student of c.s lewis um and somebody who's been a long time fan of long line of the witch's ward as everybody has i'm on the same level as everybody i i thought this was an interesting choice now i myself would not be casting a female voice to the voice of if it was me i wouldn't myself i kind of like the idea of getting a james earl jones-ish kind of voice a liam neeson we want to thank a ben affleck's batman again irons jeremy irons irons you know that there's that stereotype that we have that's that's probably what i've gone for as i was reading through her comments so that we didn't she didn't just want some cosmic deep serious voice she wanted something that had some joy in the voice as well and whatever and honestly as a theologian if you were to ask me what does god's voice sound like i don't know i really don't know so i'm going to so it's it's whatever so it's going to be interesting to see how that fits together uh it meryl streep certainly has the potential to give it a cosmic kind of feel so that's an interesting one as well the more interesting one to me though more than the fact that they're getting meryl streep to do the voice is the fact that they're moving the time frame of the story from the earliest of the 1900s up to about the 1950s and greta gerwig said to her rationale for that and her reasoning for that is that she's treating this like a rock opera it's not a musical but she's treating it to be structured like a rock opera you know because there's many musical themes in the magician's nephew everything from aslan literally singing creation into existence and stuff like that so she structured the story like a rock opera and she just kind of felt like the 1950s was the better place for her story that she wanted to tell again i don't think this is going to structure the story like a rock opera change much about the story of the magician's nephew at all i just found that more of a stark change for me than say getting meryl streep to do the voice of aslan that's just a more stark contrast for me i actually like a lot of the stuff that i read in the interview guys i thought some of it was really interesting greta gerwig is a very interesting filmmaker so it's gonna be interesting but but i gotta tell you i still don't know why she chose to do narnia i i and i say the is a fan but i don't believe there's a big hunger out there for a return to narnia i think there should be i think people should but i don't think there is and i just still today a couple years later think it was a very weird choice for greta gerwig who literally could have done anything she wanted after doing barbie like every studio was willing to give her a blank check to make anything she wanted chose to do this and and i hope it turns out to be terrific anyway rob you read the article you saw the interview with greta gerwig um what's your what stood out to you the most about it what did you find interesting about it and and where your thoughts on this all around right now okay this is a this is a very weird subject for me i just wanted to say because i and my company produced all the special features for the lion the witch in the wardrobe oh i didn't know you did that one yeah and we were in country we were in new zealand for 14 months while the movie was being produced so i got to hang out with c.s lewis's son i was steeped i was already like you as huge c.s lewis fan i mean i was a jewish kid growing up but i loved mere christianity and i love the screw tape letters oh dude the screw tape letters was like always on my bedside table for like a full it's the best oh my dear wormwood and also c.s lewis wrote three uh a science fiction trilogy the space trilogy um um out of the silent planet paralandra and that hideous strength so i'm a huge c.s lewis fan but i spent two years of my life steeped in c.s lewis and all the special features on the deluxe set of lion the witch in the wardrobe my team we filmed all that and so one of the interesting things uh the magician's nephew is an interesting book because it was the there's seven narnia books and it was the second book that i read and it was the sixth book released but it was the second book that he started writing and he started writing because a friend of his and i don't remember the actual i haven't thought about all this stuff a long time a friend of his said why was there a lamppost in narnia how do we find out you you you do and and the multiverse and all that but the thing about aslan and the thing that's what c.s lewis said is that he said let's assume god jesus whatever you believe you believe you believe you also appeared in narnia and if there was a god or an entity that would be the king of the the beasts how would he appear and that was aslan and literally at the end of the last battle aslan appears as christ so aslan is the christ in narnia and he called it it was like he he called it a supposed like suppose this narnia exists and we have the the savior appearing and all that so make no mistake aslan is christ and literally becomes appears as christ at the end of the last battle and he's also a male lion now i as somebody who loves the exorcist a woman voiced the devil in the exorcist mercedes mccambridge and no one would ever know this and it was amazing so i think if anybody if a woman could voice aslan the street monster could absolutely do it 100 however i do wonder how that is going to play into it does that mean i'm just assuming that meryl streep is going to voice aslan as either uh genderless or as a male character because with the main aslan's a male lion well so he he appears as a male lion remember he the the books always so make him out to be he's a cosmic entity but i believe he's not a male lion he appears yeah but he's he's jesus but he really is yeah he's going to he's going to have the full mane so i think he's going to appear kind of the way we we traditionally think except for he's going to have my dog's eyes uh my dog has uh the part of my the part of my dog that is part husky has the two different color eyes so that's so they're going with the two different color eyes but i believe he i believe i read he is going to appear as the traditional full mane in the form of a physical male lion but again i i don't see why that would preclude saying well then what does his voice sound like so that's why i have no problem with streep doing it yeah i'm just curious how they're going to play it because aslan in the in the in the seven darn you and by the way magician's nephew i don't know if i said that was the sixth one you published yeah but it was the second one that c.s lewis took on because somebody asked him why a friend of his said why is there why is there a lamppost in narnia a lamppost from our world and then he had that's where the multiverse it's really an interesting the narnia books are really interesting i mean i'm a huge again i i would encourage everybody to read all seven narnia books and read his science fiction trilogy and read mere christianity in the screw tape letters clive barker did a great riff on the screw tape letters called the yattering and jack which is also worth reading for those you don't know the screw tape letters is a letter is a series of letters written by a demon to his young up-and-coming demon nephew apprentice um and uh it's it's pretty very theological in nature the whole thing but anyway guys question is for you what do you think about this stuff like i i yeah the meryl streep doing the voice that's interesting the more interesting things to me are that she's going to structure it even though it's not a musical as a rock opera and then the fact that they're moving time frames by a couple of jonathan's gathered up your hot takes and now he's going to read them off and rob and i are going to adjudicate whether your hot take is an overreaction or not an overreaction so jonathan what do we got up here first all right first up we're going to hear from el baba yaga rob is this an overreaction dune will make a billion dollars giving us two uh rated r billion dollar movies in the same year you know what normally i would say no this isn't an overreaction but i think that if there ever was a dune movie that could make a billion dollars it was this film now if you look at the previous box office of dune i think the first one was like in the 400 million range because it was a pandemicy kind of a thing but then the second one made more i think dune has become quite the gen z franchise i do think there is an again a distant an outside possibility that dune three dune messiah whatever could make a billion dollars so yeah maybe i i want to call it i want to call it an overreaction because you know right even before the first dune movie ever came out rob you know i've said dune is not the type of film franchise that is going to be a billion dollar it's not family friendly it's not for quadrant it's not family friendly it's more a sophisticated kind of sci-fi that's just not for everybody you know sort of thing but you know what with i'm buying into this whole dunes day thing that i was against at first but i people have kind of convinced me otherwise i'm starting to buy into it the fact the matter is the box office from the first dune to the second dune took a big jump the second dune made over 700 million dollars made 714 million and i think it's the best film made in the last 10 years and so you add on the momentum the whole dunes day kind of approach the fact that the odyssey was still able to make uber amounts of money even with spider-man in theaters i'm still not predicting that dune 3 will be a billion dollar film if i had to bet five bucks i'll bet it's not going to make a billion but i can't bet that it's not going to make a billion but i can't call it an overreaction saying that it could so i am surprisingly here rob gonna say i'm gonna say with you i'm gonna say this is not an overreaction this time around nope all right jonathan what do we got up next all right next up john is this an overreaction we're gonna hear from the fanboy um lanterns will be nominated for best drama series at next year's emmys i would my first reaction is to say you know it's way too early in the year to make an overreaction so i'm going to call it overreaction year uh to start making those types of predictions uh by the way congrats again to er or er to the pit uh starring one of the guys who used to star in er of the pit for once again winning best drama series second year in a row and widow's bay for winning best comedy series um you know what it is not an overreaction i think lanterns is going to get nominated for best drama series um not just because of how much i've loved it and i have absolutely i'm completely captivated by this show completely captivated but we're going to talk about the trailer in just a little bit too for the next and final three episodes it's not just because the critics seem to love it but i've talked to a number of people in the industry who are voting members of the of the television academy and they love it i mean and remember rob we now live in a time right now where star wars and or got nominated for best drama series where penguin got nominated for the top award of best drama series we're see we like the boys getting all types of the the higher level award stuff and i just don't see why not lanterns now again listen this all depends on how the final three episodes go right like if the show goes off a cliff the final three episodes and that this changes the discussion but assuming that it just kind of stays even with everything we've had so far yeah i don't know if we're going to get the best drama series we're going to have to wait and i don't think it's an overreaction to saying that this series will get a best drama series nomination come next year's emmys what do you think i i you know i i think i'm going to say it is an overreaction only because genre i mean genre television has become more respectable over the last 10 years as far as the emmys go but this is a straight up superhero show and i know penguin but penguin was much more grounded than than other superhero shows have been and of course we've had the boys but i think this show this show is a little too out there i think for while i love the the way it's produced and i love of course the acting is incredible but we're talking about best series that's only what five nominees no i don't have up to eight i think something like that up to eight i just don't see it happening i i think the i think it's too much but then again you know we've had a watchman but i'm just i just think it's too niche and i think too many people are going to see it that way and not vote for it as best dramatic series all right we'll find out okay jonathan what is next all right rob matt says hello is this an overreaction the negative impact on your career from directing or starring in a superhero movie massively outweighs the positives i.e josh trank after fantastic four i think that's an overreaction because josh trank's uh his troubles were not about fantastic four and and not necessarily and and of course you know when you that film had a lot of problems post-production a lot of problems with the studio and then josh trank had there were there were personal issues that arose that i think derailed his career so i would not blame it entirely on superhero movies i think that's an overreaction because josh trank's uh his troubles were not about certainly sam ramey's career really wasn't hurt by directing spider-man movies um it really depends what kind of person or who you are i mean you could actually now that i think about it richard donner's career wasn't really hurt directing a superman movie although people would say he was probably hurt about what happened with superman 2 but he went on and created the lethal weapon franchise he directed goonies you know so he wasn't hurt i think that the thing about when you delve into any of the things that you've done in your career is that you've done a lot of Hollywood IP you it is fraught with peril in terms of look you know uh if you look at Alfonso Caron he his career wasn't hurt directing Harry Potter movie so it it it's it's a it's a crapshoot I don't think directing a comic book movie is necessarily a prison sentence yeah i mean i think what they're asking is it can be more damaging than it can be helpful and i'm going to disagree i'm going to say that's an overreaction again the josh trank thing a lot of that stuff had nothing to do with the movie itself because the movie that ultimately came out wasn't even really his i mean they took the movie away from him it was a studio thing yeah yeah and you know i i don't i think i might have talked about this before but uh harloff and i actually had a really good like hour and a half long conversation with josh trank um we got on the phone with josh and had and he i won't reveal a lot of the content of it but you know he gave us a lot of the actual background on a lot of the stuff and and some of josh trank's wounds were self-inflicted he would be the first one to say that some of it was fabricated but you know ultimately it was all it was that but but i took on the opposite side of the opposite side of that spectrum you want to say josh trank i'll present to you these two guys called joe and anthony russo james gunn who came along and did a comic book james gunn who came along and did a comic book movie and you know i feel like there's oftentimes we were just talking the other day about you know there was this actor who looked like they were the next hot thing and then they did this one movie you know you know what's uh it was the guy jack houston you know jack houston who was the guy who was the guy who was the guy who jack houston you know jack houston was coming out of boardwalk empire it looked like he was the next big thing and then he did that ben hurr movie as his big leading vehicle not a superhero movie it was ben hurr and that totally derailed his career and that through no fault of his own that totally derailed his career so can something like that happen in superhero films absolutely is there a huge spotlight on you when you're doing a superhero film whether it's starring in it directing it absolutely but i think the benefits ask chris hemsworth how popping up into a little marvel film did for his career i mean i it totally revitalized robert downey jr's career so i would actually be on the side that i think the positives are there negatives yes there can be but i think the potential positives actually outweigh the potential negatives so i'm gonna say that this one is an overreaction all right jonathan what we got up next all right we got patrick lyon here is this an overreaction john russell crowe will win another oscar in his career this one hurts me this one hurts me because i love russell crowe i love him uh i think he is one of the finest actors on the planet do i see him winning another oscar if the question was is he capable of winning another oscar the answer is yes he's one of the absolute best pure actors on the planet however i don't think he's getting the roles anymore that will position him to win more oscars um rightly or wrongly fairly or unfairly and there's certainly debate to be had i i think he's there's some baggage that comes along with casting russell crowe and and maybe that's an unfair stereotype of him now maybe that is a fair perception of him now whatever but i just don't see him getting those roles that can get him an oscar so is he capable of it rob hundred percent hundred percent he could win five more oscars i think he's that good of an actor but i just don't think he's getting those oscar winning kinds of roles anymore so i'm gonna say him getting another oscar by the end of his career i would love to see it but i think that's an overreaction what do you think well i i i think everything you just said is absolutely correct but i'm gonna be the the optimistic like there's always possibilities guy like jim kirk at the end of wrath of khan and and and the thing is like you're saying i mean russell crowe comes with baggage he obviously you know it's been 25 years since gladiator but i keep thinking about i always go back to martin landau you know martin landau starred as a for hitchcock in north by northwest and then he was able he was in space he was commander john koenig in space 1999 it wasn't like he was in meteor it wasn't like martin landau was ever going to win an academy award until he works for tim burton and he he plays bella lugosi in edwood and he won an academy award as best supporting actor in a movie about the worst filmmaker of all time so that's it there are always possibilities and i would like to believe that maximus decimus meridius husband to a murdered wife father to a murdered son will have his second award in this life or the next yeah i just i do want to point out somebody's pointing out so well you know christopher plumber got knocked or it's 82 i'm not saying it's because of christopher i'm not saying it's because of russell crowe's age but i'm not saying it's because of his age no that no no it's not because of his age i just don't think he's going to be given the roles to do it but i hope i hope rob is right in this one so all right i think we got one more left jonathan what we got up next that's right one more uh is this an overreaction rob from uh grand saber mezzo i think um star wars starfighter will be the highest grossing star wars film since the force awakens that's an overreaction i think it's an overreaction because you're talking a two billion dollar movie and if you look at the next highest grossing star wars movie was what the last jedi at 1.3 and change that's a 700 million dollar drop i think starfighter is probably going to be very successful but there is no way that it's going to outgross the force awakens even if it's the greatest movie humanity has ever seen remember he's not saying grossing the force awakens he says the biggest star wars film since the force awakens so it'd have to be bigger than the last jedi i don't agree i think that's an overreaction that's a huge leap to make huge leap to make i mean especially coming off of mandalorian and grogu i think it would be lucky to gross a billion well many films would be lucky to gross a billion um okay look let me say this do i think it's possible that the last jedi or the last jedi that the last starfighter can the last starfighter starfighter i'm wanting to see a remake of the last starfighter starfighter can be a billion dollar film i think it's possible i mean look rob you just accurately brought up mandalorian and grogu but i would also then put on the table that you know a lot of people said marvel was dead remember that so many people right into our show that marvel's dead now marvel's dead there's no coming back for marvel marvel's dead you know they put out like a a captain america movie that made like 400 million dollars they put out a a thunderbolts movie which was spectacular and the critics love but you know didn't make any money because nobody knew the thunderbolts were well now here we are with a 2.3 2.4 like whatever billion dollar spider-man movie and guess what day is going to make over two billion dollars too so much for it being dead and i think one of the reasons for that is because people hungered to want to love marvel again i think even marvel was going through their real struggling period post-end game i think even though people were becoming like me a little you know uh disenfranchised with it a little bit people were feeling a little disillusioned with marvel a bit they'd become kind of hit and miss i still think there were people who were a little bit disillusioned with marvel a little bit they'd become kind of hit and miss i still think there were that people deep down wanted to be able to love marvel again they just needed to be given the product to be able to do it and it looks now like marvel's been doing that lately so you see everybody jumping back on i think starfighter is going to be that kind of movie for star wars i think people still want to love star wars so it can but to say that it will make over as you were saying rob 1.3 billion which is what the the somewhere around what the last jedi made i gotta call that an overreaction i think we're gonna see the biggest star wars movie well this thing is going to be big i think it's going to be significantly better than mandalorian and grogu i think it's going to be a significantly better movie than mandalorian and grogu i think it's going to feel a lot more like star wars than the mandalorian and grogu did um i think i think people it's going to be a huge hit i think it's going to be a huge hit i think it's going to be a huge hit but a billion 1.3 billion i wouldn't put anything on it so is it conceivable yes because look what happened with saturday night live did a sketch on that which was absolutely hilarious by the way but it's become a big thing now a lot of people most movies now put out their version of a popcorn bucket and you know i'm getting a little bit tired of them but every once in a while by the way gladiator 2 which i did not like as a movie their popcorn bucket fantastic it was the uh their arena with like the the illusion in it and stuff like that wonderful obviously the deadpool wolverine one is kind of the gold standard of them right there's a bunch of them do it now predator bad lines had a good one the yautja ship yes they did a ship i love that because it's like a real model of the ship so now though we have a popcorn bucket coming out for street fighter a movie that i don't personally have a lot of faith in and i don't personally have a lot of belief in i hope it's great but we'll see but i gotta give credit where credit's due damn did they kill it with this popcorn bucket as cody rhodes revealed the guile street fighter popcorn bucket i love that he did it well for yeah that he did it is amazing um oh my god this is beauty and perfection and i'll tell you why this is perfect because to me a really good movie popcorn bucket can't just be a cool design right it can't just be a cool design because that's the thing it also has to be practical it has to because there have been some there have been some really cool looking movie popcorn buckets that is that we look at we go what that's going to hold like two handfuls of popcorn maybe like it just it wasn't practical this is perfect iconography from street fighter itself with guile's hair it looks hilarious and it's actually a true function of the movie popcorn bucket because that's the thing it also has to be practical was a beautiful popcorn bucket but i think it was like 70 or something dude it was it wasn't like one of the superman ones was it or no no no it was for the movie this was just like six months ago or something yeah i don't remember what it was it wasn't and now i can't remember which movie it was but it was like 70 for it and that's the one thing that has prevented me i bought the deadpool wolverine popcorn bucket one because again that's still the gold standard and i think we bought one other one i would love to put up several shelves of collectible bought in the movie theater popcorn buckets for specific movies i would love to but they are way too damn expensive because if that guile popcorn bucket i guarantee you that's not some high quality polymer that is some cheap 3d printed thing made for three dollars if this is a 3d printed thing made for three dollars if this is a 3d printed thing made for three dollars was being sold in walmart it would probably be a five dollar item but at the movie theater it's going to be 60 to 80 i'm just telling you right now it's going to be 60 to 80 and i'm not spending that kind of money now just because i made this commitment to wear it on the show i probably will i'll buy it and just so i can wear it on the show what if you get the powers of street fighter by putting it on well then i'll pay ten thousand dollars yeah that would be amazing but i i think that's the one thing that is preventing me from really getting into the movie theater into what the theaters would like it to become a real trend where everybody collects these things yeah they're just way overpriced yeah like way overpriced because again but it's like in walmart it'd be like three or four or five bucks it to me it's like i well i agree with that i what they're looking at is are these things selling out and if they are then you have to find where the market makes the decision this is too much money because now they're not selling and if they keep selling out i mean wouldn't you as a as a company want to maximize supply and demand yeah i mean you're right a lot of times a lot of times then these people once it sells out they sell them on ebay for a profit even above what they pay i'm not trying to say they should be more expensive i hate it too i'm just saying if people are doing it and it's selling out if they're if it's like 50 and then they're having to like just sell these things after the fact then yeah you the market's telling you man lower the prices so i don't eat your popcorn and cosplay too all at the same time anyway guys question is for you what do you think about this popcorn bucket i mean listen it's a big thing almost every movie now comes out with their own unique popcorn bucket but every once in a while one that's really clever comes out and i gotta say this is one of them it's probably going to be expensive but um this is one i might actually buy anyway whatever you think about it jump down to the episode five of lanterns of course uh just yeah not street fighter which of course now is leading us into the final three episodes of the season uh just by the way a production note and rob this is for you too we'll not be doing our lanterns post game show this monday uh because uh anne and i and got us tickets to go to the monday night football game between the rams and the giants so we're going to go to that so tuesday night tuesday night we'll do the post game show okay uh check your schedule rob see if you're open we'll figure that out later i can do it so it'll probably come it's going to be one day late than normal later than normal and a dollar short and a dollar short now normally when you hit the mid-season point a lot of shows these days will release the mid-season trailer well they didn't do that this time they did it with three episodes left and lanterns put out a new trailer kind of highlighting what is to come in the final three episodes and what's really neat is that it shows the structure of the show which i think is really brilliant the first five episodes have been setting up what will ultimately be the mystery the mystery is who killed hal jordan and the first five episodes were all about laying that entire backstory here's the whole thing this was the scenario this is the room where it happened this is all the stuff that went down this is what was said this is what was done boom and now which they then kind of curtailed right at the end of episode one with the murder of hal jordan now we're moving into the trailer for the final three episodes as suggested we're moving now into who did it and because the first five episodes have really kind of focused on the whole notion of who did what who said what who was where who wasn't there all that kind of stuff we now have a list of potential suspects which any good whodunit will give us there's of course just about anybody from the town john himself as guy gardner kind of implies might also be considered a bit of a suspect there's by the way some really big theories about that online there's the town sheriff is herself a suspect and there's the town sheriff is herself a suspect and there's the town sheriff and there's the town sheriff is herself a suspect as i mentioned after the last episode i think the kid himself we're not done with that kid that kid's story is not done and they kind of gave us glimpses of the kid as well in the trailer i think the kid's a suspect and then there's still my theory and it's not my theory tons of people have this theory but there's the theory that i'm holding on to rob that hal ain't dead me too i'm right there with you and i'll tell you what this trailer they just put out seems to be really going hard to insist hal has been murdered like that's going hard no no guys how's murdered how's murdered which makes me kind of think even more he's not really dead and they're setting up a twist at the end again maybe right maybe wrong we'll find out but man there's a clip in this trailer uh that has guy gardner sitting in the uh jail with jon stewart and they have such an awesome exchange that is so true to both of their characters and i'll tell you why i love this scene so much uh why because of this no because he's a and by the way i'm an athletic director not a gym teacher which answered the question for me rob which remember we were asking this before and i've seen a lot of people asking this lantern show happens in the same universe as superman yet they feel very different how are they going to co-intermingle well you took the guy who kind of really represents the tone and spirit of the superman movie with guy gardner and you put him in a locked room with jon stewart and it works because i thought that little exchange between them felt awesome so you can take one genre of a show like lanterns another genre feel type thing with his own unique dna in superman and you can put them together in the same room and see how it plays out so i i thought that was awesome so rob i thought the trailer was good like just as a trailer good trailer right yeah but to me the impressive things about it is how it completely structured this whole thing as a mystery that showed prior to now this has been laying the groundwork setting it up giving you your list of suspects giving your your cast of characters and giving you all the background and now we're moving into the mystery part and i thought that felt great and again the other thing that stood out to me was we got our first glimpse of moving the superman dna tone and feel with the lantern's dna tone and feel and i thought the result was pretty damn good for the little short bit that we got oh and of course like you said rob you called this more sinestro more sinestro definitely get i i i didn't know if we'd be getting more sinestro you did and so here we are anyway you saw the trailer what are the different elements of it good or bad that stood out to you well what the the like you pointed out that there is a mystery that was set up in the first episode that's kind of been set aside as we dealt with what was going on in the town and the narrative thrust and by the way we also talked about how we think there's another manhunter and it's the kid i think that trailer also said the kid's the manhunter maybe not but that trailer seemed to imply it but that there's still a lot more to this show and remember you know this shows it's not a half hour show it's a legit like hour hour long so we're gonna get almost three hours of show out of this so that's like two 90 minute movies and i think it's telling us first and foremost that there's a lot more to this show than first meets the eye and the relationships between the characters are not going anywhere and we're just going to amp it up with the and by the way guy gardner kind of was he's a lot less goofy he's still guy gardner but he's a lot less goofy than he was in superman and i really like that in a way i think this movie is showing that you know i think people might have watched superman might have thought why does guy gardner have a ring but now we're going to find out why and it's going to legitimize guy gardner as he's not just the haircut there's a reason why he got this ring and even though it's i there's so much in this trailer that i thought was interesting from a storytelling standpoint like i told you in our last show i've developed a love-hate relationship with this show because it makes me think radically different things from moment to moment and i'm like what am i supposed to feel here but but this trailer uh really excited me i'm really excited to see where the show's gonna go and that's what a good trailer's supposed to do you know one of the things this trailer did for me as well i was thinking about this this morning was this is both an infuriating thing about lanterns but also maybe one of its greatest pieces of genius is like you know me i'm a hal jordan guy hal jordan is my green lantern right like hal jordan is green lantern and everybody else just also played the role like whether it's it's kyle rayner or guy gardner or john stewart or whatever so he's my guy so on the one hand man i hate seeing his failings right like there's a scene in the trailer where where he's like i took the fall for it and john stuart's like no you didn't take the fall you fell and then right back at you i'm not the only killer at this table like and one of the things that i think is both infuriating for some people and sometimes for me but also really at the heart of its genius is that it's not casting any of these characters in the best light and as a hal jordan fan i just want to see him always right and i want to see him be the big hero and i will see but at the same time it's created this world where nobody is perfect everybody has their flaws like um like i was watching this great discussion between a couple of people online talking about this and they're going back and forth about who was right howler john and you know one guy was talking well john is this and how is this but you know somebody else pointed out you know how would have been able to deal with the uh manhunter no problem if john stuart didn't stop him from charging the ring like the whole manhunter's plan was going to fall apart because he hal was able to get back to the hotel room and it was going to recharge his ring and be able to deal with the manhunter no problem john interrupted and stopped it and then we see hal's failings and all kinds of stuff and i i kind of it drives me nuts but i gotta say i kind of really love the fact that they're showing all these characters as very complex and they're showing all these characters as very complex very human um the best of intentions like again i love the fact that how they went out of their way when he was talking to sinestro about how saying hey you want to solve your problem you got to kill john stewart and just straight up i am not doing that i am not that's not how i'm dealing with my problem i am not getting around and i even love the fact that when hal was laying on the ground and the manhunter was over him and like talking about how john double crossed him and i was like hmm you know i know a lot about john stewart but one thing i know he's not he ain't a coward i know that and and so and even john stewart's like he was left in a car that burst into flames he goes pretty sure that wasn't hal's intention at least i'm pretty sure that wasn't housing so i love that they they're constantly doing this thing that these are two good guys but they're both flawed and those flaws manifest themselves in some terribly consequential ways yeah man if that can set up a great mystery and you know what if it does if it does turn out that hal's dead then hal's dead i'll live with that because as long as you tell me a great story and right now i feel like i'm getting a great story but i'm still sticking that hal's not dead so me too i'm right there with you what about you jonathan are you on the house dead or how's not dead train right now i uh right now he's not dead i think there's even something in that in that trailer i glimpsed a bit of dialogue that made me feel like he's not actually um i think this whole thing is very lord of the rings because they both struggle with the greed of the ring i mean yeah when when when when uh john stewart is basically like i'm not even waiting for you to die i'm just taking it from you and then you know like you just said like he could have how could it charge that ring and taking care of business in that moment but that greed for the ring got in the way and then you know john stewart when he goes to speak with uh with uh the guardian there's this moment that clicks in his head where it's like wait she she wanted me to now she didn't just say like when he dies she's insinuating i should have killed him then he realized the greed of the ring is not in me and i get my parents have kind of programmed me but i don't want this to to your let me expand on your now i love your analogy of the lord of rings comparison so in one moment john stewart is boemir and wanting to take the ring and then in the next minute he's gandalf saying uh i cannot take it i cannot take it i i would take this ring to do good but through me yeah it would rot on yeah i i so i love that comparison as well anyway i just know i cannot wait for sunday uh for the next episode i'll have to wait until after my dungeons and dragons game so i'll be watching it a little bit later sunday but i cannot wait did i just miss or did they answer this question or is it still lingering where sinestro and you bring them up perfect timing in the episode where we first get his reveal he says that the manhunter is the second biggest threat to your world no no no no no he didn't say to your world he said to you oh john stewart is the bigger threat to hal jordan yeah i took it to the planet that's what i was by the way getting back to this image where is this this isn't in the prison no so sinestro sinestro is on the loose anyway guys question is for you what do you think about this new trailer for the second half of the season well the last three episodes really of lanterns i i think the trailer is great because sent in here so we're going to start off with uh dan v who writes most people don't know but with rotten tomatoes you can click on the percentage to see the average rating from critics for example when you click the 96 for resident evil the average rating is 7.8 out of 10 so going to a resource like metacritic which doesn't count all of the critics reviews from run tomatoes and average them isn't necessary that's not really true though dan v 900 because for a couple different reasons number one is most critics on rotten tomatoes don't give a score like i know i'm a rotten tomatoes critic too i don't put up a ton of my reviews on there i'll put them on every once in a while but i know i don't give a rating i simply the only thing that you have to do when putting your review on rotten tomatoes as a verified critic is say like it or don't like it that's all you're required to say now they give you the option of giving a rating any rating you want you can give it a letter rating you can say a plus or d if you want you can say three out of four if you want you can say six out of ten if you want but they don't really have a standardized system for that so number one most of them don't even give a numerical score most of the critics who put their ratings on there only say whether they liked it or didn't like it that's it now for the ones that do there's no standard uh rating system you don't give it it's not out of ten it's not out of five stars or out of four stars or out of six donuts or out of three buckets of popcorn or whatever your rating system is there's not a standardized one so one doesn't necessarily translate or equate to the other both of those things are not true on metacritic so that's why i think there is both value in the rotten tomatoes which i think the pure like it or didn't like it is the better system that's just me i think there's also a place in value in something like the metacritic system that goes for a standardized score system which i have my issues with but it's different from rotten tomatoes so yeah i i don't think rotten tomatoes renders metacritic inconsequential at all because of those two big major things and a good finish season four slow horses started season six both amazing and both started in 2022 other showrunners can definitely learn a thing or two yes again i love that the pit because you know we were getting into a a mode there for a while where any streaming show was taking two to three years in between seasons to get the next season but we're now starting to see it get back to the idea of either once a year or close to once a year the pit has been coming out every every january new season of the pit that's the way it should be i'm glad they're getting more and more close to that so it's hopefully that's a trend that continues all right animesh again writes uh even in the best stuff i sometimes go why didn't that character do or say that haven't had this once in lanterns uh if i think something the show has addressed it and every conversation has felt genuine like how highly capable people would think and act i agree now do i think lanterns is the greatest show i've ever seen no but there are a lot of gripes i have with a lot of shows even some of my favorite shows that lanterns just seems to avoid i again i don't think it's the best show of the entire year anything like that but i think this has been really rock solid and i feel like they've taken a lot of steps to address logic problems before it gets to the screen and not all shows do that even some of my favorite shows right in the next few weeks my alamo will show ghost in the shell nice in the mouth of madness ginger snaps manos the hands of fate possession 1981 daughters of doctors daughters of darkness 1971 which one should i see you know it's funny that you bring that up right now because yesterday i was literally having a conversation over text with a friend of mine yesterday and haven't thought about this movie in a while but ginger snaps came up it's like man you know that movie's actually really good and it is and you know a lot of people have not seen it and so i don't know if you've seen ginger look there's a lot of good options you've just presented i think ginger snaps is if i had a chance to go watch a movie it's like tonight i was going to go to the theater and i had a chance to watch one of those on the big screen again i think i would do ginger snaps so my record look you can't go wrong with any of them my recommendation rich is going to be ginger snaps all right rich also writes are you excited for the latest revival season of mystery science theater 3000 i'm not going to lie no i'm not don't get me wrong i have no problem with mystery science mystery let me try that again i have no problem with mystery science theater 3000 at all i actually have some very fond memories of it but i'm not going to pretend i'm excited about because i i don't think i've watched a 3000 anything in like 10 years if i'm being honest again no shade on it at all nothing but love for it it's just it's not really my thing per se so i'm not going to be disingenuous and say that i'm excited for the new thing because i haven't really been keeping up with it at all to be honest all right next up uh jaspreet writes the extra three minutes is encore is an additional sneak peek at doomsday this was made clear in the trailer and press release everyone is still getting the same movie no matter where they watch it that's not a clothing to according to the british film authority now look if all those reports are wrong great you know me i'm a huge marvel fan i want to love everything that marvel's doing but according to uh the british film board there are two different versions with two different runtimes the shorter runtime one is going to be playing in regular 2d screens the longer one with the extra three with the extra three minutes on top of that because remember the one playing in screens are still a couple of minutes longer than the original end game that means there's extra stuff in it but the one in the more expensive theaters is even longer it's an extra three minutes longer than the one playing in regular theaters now if that information and all that stuff that came out is incorrect great but according to that data there are two different versions we're getting if you pay less money you're going to get a few extra minutes if you're if you pay more money you're going to get even more stuff and that's the whole issue we had the other day legal drama or any kind of a legal show it's like well you know they got a witness on the stand you say that you were not aware of mr phillips living in the house well then do you care to explain this disclose everything you have as evidence prior to the court starting you have to it's called the disclosure phase you have to disclose and show everything you have that you are intending to bring as So you're saying 95% of the people who go to see doomsday aren't going to understand the movie. They're not going to be able to understand what's going on. They're not going to do that. Um, I'm sure there are a ton, like there are many, many, many movies I've seen that was not good, but certain performances were great. I just don't have them off the top of my head and I can't sit here for five minutes and try to think about it's a great question, McCray, but it's not something I've got off the top of my head. All right. Frank Castle writes, I think she chose this series, not just because she loved the books. I think we're talking about Greta Gerwig and Narnia, but also because of Narnia's creation with which if done well, could be visually stunning. I mean, obviously she must have a love for the books. I just don't know that there's anybody really interested in more Narnia. Now, when I say anybody, obviously that's hyperbole. There's obviously some people out there, but generally speaking, I don't think there's a big hunger out there for more Narnia. And so coming off of Barbie, when she could have been able to do anything, I just got to believe her. I think she's a great actress. I think there's other things that have, that can be personally and professionally and artistically satisfying and have higher potential for commercial success. Narnia, I think is going to be a film that comes and goes, but again, I hope I'm wrong. I think Greta Gerwig's a great filmmaker. I obviously love C.S. Lewis. So I hope this is great and I hope it's really successful. I'm just doubting that it will be, but you know, we'll find out. And all right, guys, that will do it for today.
