Knock on a lie why it was trying to tell me about how a friend of hers sustained an injury and She tried to tell me that the nurse had little crutches She made crutches It was incredible. Let's get this podcast started Welcome back to knock on a lie a wave original brought to you by visible live in the know I'm your host Kylie Kelsey friend of the spider community I did not cry at kindergarten drop off and I bleed green By the way Dex bit first In any case you were wondering Jason's tweet. I read it and laughed Abby Before he posted that so all the people thinking that it was appalling Do you know my husband anyway coming up on today's episode a bunch of NFL wives just posted their season kickoff parties Which has me reminiscing about my days as the oldest Eagles wife on the team God I was In this week's edition of can I be honest and as you can see I'm in our Philly studio today because soon I'm going to be joined by a fellow bird's fan. She's the hilarious Emmy-winning stand-up comedian actress and writer Who's been leading the charge for the WMBA here in Philly? Wanda Sykes I'm so excited again No business but first a quick and GL announcement about all the real-one teacher wish lists We've received hundreds and hundreds of submissions So thank you for your videos and sending the links Queen Emma and the team have been hard at work compiling all of the wish list that we're sent in And I'm going to feature some of my favorite videos on more shit Monday Queen Emma wants me to commit to an amount that I am going to cover and let's just say the majority of the wish list that we're sent will have at least Some of their items covered If we were to clear wish lists then we would do less of them and That wouldn't reach as far moving on the real ones had a lot to say about my solo episode this week So I'm going to respond to some of your top comments first up much to my own chagrin It seems like you loved listening to just me for an entire episode. Why? That's terrible this comment says I love the solo episodes I just watched a grown woman answer a quiz about animals and I'm here for it Yes, you did and I do it again. That should excites my soul. What was the buzz feed? I used to love when it would pop up and be like dog breeds Do you know them? And I'd be like the you're fucking right. I do this next comment says do a solo once every four weeks I really enjoyed this from Canada Hey up north Queen Emma wants to know if I would want to do more solo episodes and I think it's it's pretty obvious fucking no I nobody needs more of me Right. No. Queen Emma also wants to know what if they were a cool 60 and I said that just the way she would okay? No, also no. I feel like this is the no segment Maybe one more solo episode this fall Queen Emma is looking for a Thanksgiving special. That's a solo episode Maybe honestly because Who the heck's gonna want to record on Thanksgiving week? I feel that Me that's who okay And also the last episode wasn't technically a solo episode because Benny and Wyatt made cameos, so Gotcha Next up a lot of you guys gave more ideas for what I should have the girls call me to help break up the symphony of mom Mom, mommy, mom, mommy, mom, mama, mom, mommy Let's see what they are a little John and your response could be what? Yeah, okay, I'll do it I'll do it. I will absolutely do it and I'm telling my kids to calm. Oh Me cabsie here. Now this gives me a very good idea. I actually feel like Morning drop off. We're starting to get into a routine and I feel like instead of saying that we need to get in the car That I should just start yelling cabsie here because I feel like that's more fun so Maybe we'll do both and lastly there were a bunch of comments like this No comment on the engagement. Hey, has she congratulated Travis and Taylor on their engagement? So if you record Before the announcement was posted You got it right. Yep. Yep. You're you're with me. I think that this is I would like to put out that I have made a very conscious effort To not discuss Taylor and Travis on this podcast because news outlets tabloids and AI quite frankly like to post Only the quotes that they grab from whatever I say in reference to them and here's that I here's where I think there is a disconnect people do not realize that you at home you have your family and In your family you might have a brother-in-law and they might be dating someone they might have you might have a student to be sister-in-law But you have a relationship personally with them That no one else is involved in because it's your relationship and so I don't need to come out here and Make statements When I already talk to them You say I'm saying I Don't need you to clickbait my shit. I don't need you to take my comments and try and dissect it. I Think it goes without being said. I am so incredibly happy for them. We are so excited That they are taking this next step the girls are so excited to get another aunt I am so truly happy for them and I feel so grateful that we get to welcome Taylor into our family in a more official capacity But it's our private relationship so That's my brother-in-law Travis And my soon-to-be sister-in-law Taylor and so I don't I don't need to talk about him all the time our relationship is private between us and So it is okay that time Made it so that we didn't congratulate them in the last episode and also that I Don't I don't always have to comment on what they're doing in their lives because I Can just text them and talk to them Anyway, now that that's been covered. Let's move on to another one of my favorite segments Can I be honest brought to you today by advent health official health care provider of Walt Disney World Resort this past weekend Was of course NFL kickoff and alongside all the highlights my Instagram feed was also filled with photos from various NFL Spouse kickoff parties happening around the league Brooke Dickerson shared the Eagles ladies brunch former NGL guest Kristen you check through one for the 49ers woman and as a retired NFL wife Emphasis on the retired. It's cool to see these bonding moments among the women of the league I am first of all mostly proud of the Eagles women for doing it so early Because we used to get I'm not kidding to November I would say the end of November and usually have a moment of shit We haven't gotten together yet Yikes, and then we would quick plan what would end up being a really fun Christmas or holiday get together But I'll tell you what it took that long and it was Without fail and every single time we would do the holiday one and we'd be like we should do this earlier next year And then you know what we would do not. I especially love seeing the women Who I was there with Brooke Dickerson, Annie Elliott, Nicky, Milata. There's all these women who are still there who are continuing this culture of Sort of inclusivity and making sure that everyone feels like they have Contact and that they have an opportunity for community and that is really exciting to see I feel really proud that that's happening in Philadelphia as if I have any fucking Skin in the game anymore because I'm red-sired. Ironically the first event that I went to with women with the Eagles was a White elephant so Right on brand. I'm telling you we literally every single year would just get to the holidays and then it would be spur the moment But I don't it was a lovely time. I had one person there that I knew personally that had included me She was friends with Jason shout out to Laura Barwin. It was nice to have that connection and life. was great about including me and making me feel welcome. There's something to be said about that because I'm sure that it still happens many places, but it there's always that almost like a welcome to the NFL moment for women. And mine was when I met someone who shall remain nameless to me honest. I don't even know if I remember their name. And when I met her, she said to the person that had introduced me, which is a random connection. Essentially, I was downstairs in the family room and someone introduced me as, oh, this is Jason's girlfriend, and the person looked at the person introducing me and said, Jason Kelsey. And the woman said, yes, and she goes, he has a girlfriend. I was like, yes, bitch, she just said that and I'm standing right in front of you with the fun. What? Excuse me. Yeah, that was my welcome to the NFL moment. Lucky for me, I did not have to interact with that woman much more than that. It was better off. I was okay with that. Wholeheartedly. That does it for, can I be honest, brought to you by Advent Health. Moving on, chat. Let's get to some scrolling. Doom Scroll. The week is brought to you by Uber Eats. Order Sephora on Uber Eats today. Can you really? I could Uber Eats some Sephora. First up on Doom Scroll at Anna Rankin, RN. Oh, a nurse on TikTok made a point about me time that I feel deep in my bones, Queen Emma roll the clip. I don't need me time. I need no one needs me time. No one needs me. No one needs me time. I don't need it. That's honestly so true. I want to sit on the couch and sit. That's a period. That was my whole sentence. I want to sit on the couch period. That's literally it. That's it. Me time to me says that I have things that I want to do for me. And that's not necessarily the case. I want no one to need me. I don't want to open a snack. I don't want to I don't want to fill a water bottle. Yeah, I don't want to wipe a butt. That's easy. That's not mine. You know, yeah, I think I think that pretty much sums it up. This is what I will say. When there have been times where all of my children have left the house and no one is currently in my vicinity and I'm at my house by myself, which is a great place to have nobody needs me time. That's where I want the nobody needs me time. I want to interact with my house the way I want to interact with my house, my house unguided. If you know what I mean, then you know what I mean. Approximately 30 minutes, I'll give it 30 minutes into that. I get real bored, really bored and I want them to come back. And then a couple times full honesty here. No judgment. They come back and within 15 minutes of them being in the house, I'm like, you could leave. You could go back, go back wherever you were, go back to where you were. I missed you. And now the fact that you drop kicked your sister in the middle of the living room makes me want you to go back wherever you were for 10 more minutes. I need to have more minutes of silence. You know, yeah, that's it. Next up on Doom Scroll, I found myself on DIY spider home building TikTok. Yes, you heard that right. And I have many thoughts, Queen Emma, the click, please. So I have a little jumping spider. He's been hanging out in my bathroom for quite a few months now. So this is a little home I have set up for him so far. I have more stuff coming to fill it up. It's just on back orders. But here's curious little but is I can't believe he got in here. Now since he is like a wild spider, I'm not going to shut this door on him so he can freely go in and out as he pleases. And I got to get some food for him. A couple things I love about this video. First of all, she didn't kill the spider. Starting off on the right foot. I am the person who not only thinks that certain spiders are cute, but also will scoop them up in my bare hands and take them outside. Now, sometimes when I don't think they're cute, I'm not picking them up in my bare hands. That's going to be a cup and piece of paper situation. I love nothing more than the fact that this spider knew that she created that for him or her and that it went into the little house. If you don't think spiders are cute, I want you to look up jumping spiders and I want you to look at a close up of a jumping spider. There's no way. They're so fuzzy and like compact and like almost chubby because the fuzzy and their little eyes are so cute. I love it. The girls don't love bugs as much as me. I will say I have not passed out on. They do love what Benny calls lowly polis. That makes me want to cry. I don't know why, but that made me want to cry. Hold on. It literally the thought of hearing her say lowly poli makes my heart sing. That is one thing I will never correct. That is a lowly poli until she starts saying lowly poli because some jackass corrected her. It won't be me. It will not be me. It's a lowly poli in our house until the end of time. That's it for Doom Scroll. The week brought to you by Uber Eats. Wanda Sykes is about to join me right here in studio after I tell you all about visible. She's an Emmy award-winning actress, writer and comedian. You know her from stand-up specials and roles in hit shows like Blackish, Kirby, Enthusiasm and the other two. She's also a Philly Sports fan who's been advocating for the Philly WNBA team for years. It's happening. Plus, she's a fellow mom and currently in the middle of her stand-up tour but has still made time to sit down with me today. Wanda Sykes, welcome to Not Gonna Lie. Thank you. Happy to be here. I am so excited to have you specifically to talk about some Philly stuff. I know that you are in the area and a Philly Sports fan. Yes. What's your favorite Philadelphia team? Eagles. Easy. That's easy. That's easy. They make it a light left. Yes. Yes. Now, what's the best part of Eagles fans that you have found? Just die hard. Even when not having a great season, they don't, you know, they're not, they're not leaving this stands early. They're going to talk some shit. Oh, they're going to let you have it. Yeah, they're going to boo you. Yeah. They're going to boo you. Yeah. They're going to throw batteries at Santa Claus. They're going to do it. Yes, but it's out of love. It's out of love. And it's like, okay, right now we know we stink, but then we're going to let you know that. Yes. And everybody has an opinion how to get better. What we need. Yes. Right. But when it's, when it, when we're winning, uh, isn't it the best? It is. It's just the best. It feels good around here. Doesn't it? It feels great around here. Yeah, it does. It feels good. In three words or less, how do you feel about the Dallas Cowboys? Rewards or less? Uh, uh, piece of shit. Perfect. I was going to say, fuck the Cowboys, but yeah, yeah, that's my go to. Okay. Piece of shit works. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I would say, I would say, I usually say dumb ass Cowboys. Perfect. That's, yeah, that works. The dumb boys. Yeah. All except. Okay. Um, like my husband, you are not originally from Philadelphia, yeah, but you have very much embraced the city. Yes. Is there any Philadelphia is, um, word, phrase, food that you are totally in on? John. Perfect. Applies everything. Depies everything. in place with thing. It is very confusing for people who are not around here. Yes. But people cannot fathom that you have just like it's a it's a plug-in anywhere. Anything, anything, anywhere. And it sounds good. It flows nicely. Yep. Well, back to Philly sports. Okay. Let's get right into it. You and your wife have been very much on the forefront of the movement to get Philadelphia. It's very own WNBA team. Yes. And of course, we found out earlier this summer. It's finally happening. Yes. In 2030, we will have our own WNBA team. What was your initial reaction to the news? Oh, man. We were we were just just overwhelmed and just so excited. And it's been working on this for a long time. And not just the two of us. We also there's another mom group, Ashley Luck and Hymer and Starlight Crandle, another couple. And this all I started, we were telling them what we wanted to do when they jumped on, I was like, hey, yeah, let, you know, let's let's let's go forward and just started making calls and meeting with, you know, city council of people. And actually, the mayor was on the city council at that time. So we met with her. And what I really, really loved was that how everyone we talked to was like, yes, Philly needs this, Philly deserves this. No one was like, no, it was all just so positive, positive. People wanted it for the city. They wanted it for women's sports. And everyone was like, shocked that it wasn't, you know, like, we didn't already have one, you know, it was like, like, wait, man, how do we get over a little guy? You know, DC has a New York has a, it's like, they, you know, we were to fly over city with the hell, right? So you're almost pretty fired up. And of course, we put a, you know, got a bit together, put it in and it was just crickets from the lead, nothing, nothing. And we knew that in order to get this done, we had to have the sixers support. And, you know, met with them and they were a little, but then, but David, David Alman was always like, okay, yeah, I want to do this. If it's not with the sixers, I'll, you know, do them, you know, help you guys, you know, financially on, you know, put it in for the bid and all. So, yeah, everyone was really fired up about it. But then when the sixers said, you know, we got to, we got to go all out on this, we, we have to make this happen. This is, this is the right thing to do. And so when they, they did, you know, here we are, we're getting it 2030. Yeah. Now with your involvement in getting the team here in the first place, are you currently involved in the ownership group at all? For the Philadelphia WMBA team? Well, right now, the answer, short answer, no. However, we're having conversations and the sixers and, you know, we have to figure out what that structure is. And once they figure out what that is, then they'll get back to us and we'll see how we can, you know, navigate. I'll bring my bag of nickels and see, see if that'll, if they're just pushing one across the table at a time. Is this enough? Is this enough? I love this. Yeah. Yeah. I have a little bit. Now, I've talked about wanting to invest myself. You let me know. I'll bring a bag of nickels. Okay. No, but really, it's, I'm so excited about it. And I'm, I'm so grateful to you and your wife and the other individuals who were advocating for it here because, like I said, I truly think Philadelphia has been ready for it for a long time. But obviously, right now, with the excitement around the WMBA and women's sports in general, this is, this is so, it's so cool. And I really appreciate you guys. Okay. So don't talk about our little group because Philadelphia sisters. That's perfect. I will. It's, I'm so grateful. I'd love to switch gears a little bit and talk about your career. I mentioned it in your intro. You are in the middle of your Pleasin. Thank you. Stand up tour. I see you've got some upcoming tour dates in the US. Are you planning any more Philly dates? Yes. It'll, it'll be, it'll be next year though. But, but like early part of next year, I think I saw something like maybe March or something. I'm not sure. That's why yes, I will be back. Of course. Love it. Bring it home. Do you like performing in Philly and where does it rank in as far as your top cities to perform in? I do. I love it. I love the, the audience. You know, it's pretty much like the, you know, it translates kind of like how Philly feels about sports, the sports teams. Yep. The ones that come out, they, they know, you know, my love for the city. So they, they show up, you know, and, and they, they, they want you to do good. But if you do a joke that's not working, they'll let you, they'll let you know, come on, Juan, you know, you know, do they interpret you? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. We are actually, it doesn't stop at the link. So weird. No. Now, I also love whenever you talk about parenting on stage. Yes. Do you run your jokes by your kids before you perform them? I do not. Of that. No. Go and blind. Yes. Wing it. Yeah. Now, what's their feedback like? Actually, when they, when they started like a middle school almost, yeah. Yeah. When they were, they were in middle school, they did say, um, hey, can you like not talk about us? Because our friends, you know, their parents let them see things that you do. And then, you know, and they joke, joke on us. I'm like, oh, I said, well, their parents shouldn't let them watch things like that's, that's no, my jokes are for mature. My stand up. I said, but you can watch, you know, when I'm on, you know, like the late night show, it's a story, but and they were like, well, I really wish you wouldn't. I'm like, oh, well, you want a car, right? Mom's got a bad at car. That's too big. Yeah. That's too big. How about a car? Now, do you run jokes by your wife? Uh, no, but she'll come to the show and she will let me know if, if it's too hard, too hard on her or whatever. And I say, don't you want to place in France? You want to place in France, don't you? Now, speaking of that, no. Now, when you imitate your wife, oh, yeah. Is she actually just casually like crushing heaters all day? Like, does she actually smoke cigarettes? I'm so intrigued. Or is it just like the air of like a French woman? It's the air of a French woman. I love that. And she does not smoke, but that's just how I see her. Like when she's talking to me, I just see it. I just see her just to be fair, the first time I saw your impression of her when you started, when you started out with the smoking the cigarette, I thought this woman's French immediately. I'm glad to know that she's not just crushing them all day, though. Now, you've also been in so many iconic movies and shows throughout your career. Is there a project that fans bring up the most with you? Curb your enthusiasm. They love curbing enthusiasm. And people come up to me and, hey, can you yell at me or can you, you know, leave a voice message and just cut people out. Curse them out. I'm not, you know, I'm not a crazy woman. I'm not, you know, come on. I'm like, actually, I got in a tail on what Monday, yeah, flew back Monday. No, Sunday, Sunday, I flew like Sunday. And flight attendant goes, yeah, can you come and say hi to the captain? He's a big fan. So I go and he goes, call me an ass hole. And I'm like, I just, you just flew me. Fuck safely. Yes, safely. Uh-huh. Chicago to here and, and ass hole. Okay. Like that's scary. Call me an ass hole. I love that. As someone who curses a lot, I love that. I will say I loved your part in Monster and Law. Thank you. Because the, the kind, like the relationship between you and Jane fond of for that was just hilarious. You guys played off of each other so well. And it was fun to watch. Thank you. Now, um, I often say I have no business being in the very cool places. I have somehow found myself in these days, Fashion Week, the Olympics, a recording studio for Christmas album. I had no business being on. This is shit. Your spouse is talking into it's the whole thing. This is, we're breathing right over it. Why did you navigate Fashion Week? No, I'm not saying you're not fashionable. I'm just saying. No, I am not. No, I am. I'm like, I've never been to fashion. My biggest fear is getting invited to the Met Gala or the Met Ball, whatever. That's don't, they know better. You know what I would show up. So this, I've, I've said it multiple times when people give me something where I need to dress up. Uh-huh. This, yeah. Maybe a t-shirt. Yeah. Maybe a t-shirt. Maybe a black t-shirt. That's, right. That's really jazzin' it up. Right. Jeans, Chuck Taylor's. There you go. Done. Good. I'm not. I ended up at Fashion Week because a dear friend of mine invited me. She, works for Mosquino, obviously one of my, like, she way cooler than me, and I ended up front row at Alberta Ferretti, which was incredible. The cool thing is, is that I can appreciate it. I love that people do, I love it. I love it so much, and then I go into my closet and I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna put my converse back on and keep it rolling. So places that I had no business being, do you ever have any moments in your career where you just have, wow, I really have no business being here, or that you're just like, wow, this is a really special moment because for a while, people got very disturbed by the fact that I kept saying that I had no business being places or no business talking to the amazing people that I get to talk to, and they were like, no, you have business being there. And I'm like, it's a, it's a funny or way of saying that I am so incredibly grateful to be able to experience these things. - Right. - Is there ever, is there moments that stick out to you where you thought to yourself, this is an incredible moment that I didn't know I would ever get the opportunity to experience? - I would say co-hosting the Oscars with Virginia Hall and Amy Schumer, that was pretty amazing. Yeah, so like we walked out and I'm like, what the hell am I doing here? You know, it's like, how bad I get here? - Yeah. - This is crazy. And then you're just embracing and rolling. - Yeah. - Yeah. - The White House correspondence dinner. - Mm-hmm. - And yeah, 'cause I know they have a comedian there. So that made sense, but once I walked in and I'm like, this president Obama, I'm sitting next to Michelle Obama, like, what the fuck? - That's how they feel like it here. - You know, do you like what the hell is this? - Yes. I did that also on monster law. When I walked in, I'm like, I'm working with Jane Ponda and Jennifer Lopez. - This is crazy. - Yeah, this is crazy. - I feel like it's nice to experience those moments 'cause it is like, it has to be one of those moments that sticks with you forever to be like, this was a really cool experience. - And then you get to appreciate it a little more 'cause you had that moment of like, what the fuck am I doing here? - Yeah, yeah. - Any time I go like, it's take the tunnel to somewhere. - Yes. - How am I allowed in the tunnel? - I have fucked my out. Who let me in this tunnel? Don't I need a badge or something? What? - The number of times. - I've been like, I don't have a badge, I can't go there. And people are like, you don't have a badge 'cause you're about to be on, can you just keep walking? And I'm like, I'm not allowed there. You need a badge to go there. They're clearly checking it. You see that man, he's checking badges. I don't have a badge. So I'll be here and you guys, let me know how it goes. - Yeah. Attention, real ones. I know I typically do our NGL announcements at the top of the show, but I just had one more come in that I needed to fire off immediately. Sephora can now be delivered with Uber Eats. I didn't know I was in New York for something. And my publicist is like, let's go to Four Seasons Bar and have a drink. All right, cool. So we get there and another publicist comes over and starts talking to her. And she goes, and she goes, get ready. I'm like, huh? And here comes George Clooney. Just casual, casual. Just walks into the bar. And it really, you could just feel like the air, just getting, just, just shift it. - Sure. - Or just a shift. And everyone's like, (gasps) - You can, you can hear that. - You can hear that. - You can hear that at the same time. - You can feel that. So we're at the bar and he's like, hey, why are you doing like? - How George Clooney? - I said his whole name. You know? - That's incredible. - And that was-- - Yeah, it was, yeah. - Yes, star power. - Yes. - A collective inhale. - Mm-hmm. - Okay. - What, he was worth a collective inhale? - He was. - Mm-hmm, I love that. - Charming. Charming. - He seems that way. - Mm-hmm. - I'm glad. Now, well, I'd love to circle back to parenting and talk to you some more about being a mom. - Okay. - You are a mom of twins. - Yes. I saw you recently talked about them being almost old enough to drive. - Yes, there's 16. - And how is that going? - We're a little bit. Olivia is into it. She's really like, hey, you know? And I took her out for span. It's terrifying. - It is. It's terrifying. - And you don't have control of great-- - Yeah, she did a great job. - Sure. - She did a great job. But I'm gonna send her to a class when somebody has a car with a brake or another wheel on their side, but at least a brake on their side. Because, you know, it is. You're really just putting your life in their hands. - You know, in a very large, like a heavy piece of heavy piece of machinery. Yeah, but she did a good job. But it's, I mean, it's terrifying. I don't wanna be in the car with any of my kids when they start driving. - No. - Because, also, I'm not equipped to teach, who the fuck, who am I? - And you know what, doesn't work. Hey, don't do that. That does not work. - That doesn't work. - No, I want someone who's a professional. Now, twins, how is that? Too at the same age at the same time. Now, you have Boy Girl? - Boy Girl. - That must mix it up a little. - As they got older, yeah. It did, but when we first got home, we thought, oh, this is 'cause they got home and they were just still in their little car seats and they were sleeping. And we were like, oh, okay, this is good. All right, so it was still sleeping. Put them in a little pack and play. 'Cause, you know, we were doing stuff. And fine, and there was time to go to bed, put them in a crib, this all hell broke loose. Like just, it was just, this one would cry. This one would, you know, need a change in. And it was, okay, feed this one, change this one. It was just constantly that. And after two days of that, I was like, once you got to go back, you got to, - You mean you might say, it's up to you, but you got to take one back. - Yup. - We would get down to parents and multiples. Because I, we have four now, but we had each of them, they each had their own new warning experience. - We had a new experience. - We know it's something, okay. - Nearly two years in between each of them, our two oldest or 17 months apart, that's our closest. And everyone else is about two years apart. But I mean, multiple, at the same time. - Yeah, multiple of these. but still you're doing this. It's not two years because you're doing it while you're pregnant with the floor. - Sure. - So yeah, wow. - No, we talked about you having two 16 year olds. I don't know about you, but I've learned a lot about Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang. Coaching high school field hockey. - Okay. - Have you guys talked about your aura in your house? - Yes. - Love this. - Okay. - Tell me more. - Yes. - Well, it's all about losing aura. - Yes, that's what I've learned. - Like is it the, there's a word of it? - It doesn't make it. - Things are taking from your aura when it's bad. - Yes. - And then feeding or growing your aura when it's good or something. I can't. - I know Olivia left something in class and she had to run to catch the bus. And she was talking about that. Like we drive in the school and they take the bus home. So she goes, man, I don't know what it's going to be like this morning. I'm like what? She's like, I lost so much aura yesterday. She's like, I had to run to the bus. And I know everyone saw it. It's going to be at least a couple of days. And her friend is like, yeah, dude, at least a couple. I'm like, you ran to the bus. - Are you running? - Yeah, it's not cool to run. - It's not cool to run. - I know that. For some reason, I know that I'm not sure why. Yes, not cool to run. I feel like running is like running in high school is the equivalent of having like a wheelie backpack. George is not, we're not running. You're not running in high school. - Luke, I made Lucas wear a helmet. He was riding the scooter, right? - Got for bed. - And yeah, he was going to test some aura. And he's on the scooter and I was like, put your helmet on. - No, safety is not, he's like, you are killing my aura. - No, safety's not cool. - You're killing my aura. Like, well, I rather you lose aura than get a brain injury. - Correct. - I'm with you. This makes a lot of sense. I also saw a clip of you saying recently that you're not the cool mom. - Not really. I love that. - I am not a cool mom either. - No. - But what would you say makes you not the cool mom? - I ask a lot of questions, you know? I wanna know, you know, where you're going and all that. And I'm the one of, hey, don't do this and you know, stop playing ball in the house, things like that. - No, I did see a clip where I believe it was, you asked your kids what they wanted for their birthday. And they said Instagram. - Yeah. - Now how old were they when they said that? - Well, they had been asking for that when they were like 13, 14. They didn't get phones until they were almost 13. - I love that so much. - Yeah. And all the reason why we broke down there was because the teachers was like, will you please let your children have phones? Like they're being bullied and then I was like, I don't care. - Old's character. - Yeah. I was like, I don't care. And he was like, no, no, no, you know what I'm saying? They really do need to have phones. She's like, they're gonna be started getting assignments on the blah, blah, blah. And then when they started, you know, taking the bus and everything, I'm like, all right. Let's get them phones. - Yeah. - 'Cause then I look at it as I can track them. So recently I discussed with Kelly Ripa about how I would like to have what I'm calling the kitchen phone. And basically have cell phones in the kitchen that live in the kitchen. That if you need to go to sports, if you need to go a place where your parents are not, that you could take the phone. That your friends could have the phone number, but that the phone doesn't leave essentially the kitchen or their communal living space. It's not going your room. It's not going to the basement. It's not going anywhere I cannot get eyes on you or hear your conversation. - I love that. - And it's right there. If I ever want to access what you've done on it, it's right there. Am I going to? Who the fuck knows? - Who knows? - Who knows? - That's the fun of it. - That's right. - And there were a lot of comments that were like, good luck. And I was like, well, thank you. I know you mean that sarcastically, but I'm gonna stick to it because I truly think that there is a, we're lost in a way that our kids are now like this. And some don't know how to interact with other human beings. They don't know how to hold a conversation. They don't know how to like simple, simple interactions are lost because they just want to be right here. And do you feel like your kids benefited from not being stuck in their own personal cell phones? - Absolutely. Our kids are, I think, much more personable. And we get comments from adults and our friends like, oh my God, your kids are so sweet, they come in, they say hello, they can hold conversations. And I know that is from them not being here all the time. - I really am lost on the fact that kids are given cell phones and people are like, oh, you can download this app or you can put parental controls on it. You know that these kids are learning technology in school. They're gonna surpass us in our technology knowledge by fucking fifth grade. - Absolutely. - And you think they're not gonna be able to get around the parental controls? - Kiss my ass, I have more faith in my oldest daughter, she'll be cracking everybody's cell phone. That one's nuts. In terms of being a cool mom, do we even want to be cool moms? - No. - Isn't that sort of the thrill of being a mom? That's part of our right of passage. We get to embarrass you. - Yes. - That comes with the territory. - I don't want to be cool. - I don't want to be a cool mom. - No, I want to be the one that like pulls up to school, blasts in some ludicrous hunks, the horn, and says, "Have a great day," and like draws attention. And like everyone's like, "What is your mom doing?" Does she think she's cool playing them? Yes, yeah, I am, I'm cool to myself. - That's what I do. - Yeah. - And I'm here to embarrass you. - Or if they have a song and they go, "Oh, this song is so great." I go, "No, here's the original." - Yes, yeah. - Oh, isn't that funny? - This is what we go listen to. - Yes. - Yeah. - Not cool mom. - We're better that way. - I cannot thank you enough for coming today. - I love this song. - And chatting, this is incredible. Again, I thank you so much for your advocacy on getting the WMBA team here. I am as a mom of four daughters. Very excited that they will have the opportunity to cheer on female basketball players in our very own city. It is unbelievably exciting. And based on the height trajectory that we are on in our household, I might have at least one basketball player. - There you go. - So this could be great. - Yes. - Thank you so so much. I really appreciate you having me. - Thank you. - And that's a wrap on another episode of Not Gonna Lie.
