Kylie & Sandra Bullock on America’s Sweetheart, Betty White Reincarnated & Miss Congeniality Snorts | Ep. 79
1h 14m 40s
Kylie Kelsey opens the episode with a heartfelt, relatable take on back-to-school chaos, sharing her experiences packing lunches, navigating emotions with young children, and managing the daily stress of parenting four daughters. She explores a popular parenting debate—“Oreo gate”—where a parent’s request to ban Oreos in a school lunchbox sparks discussions about boundaries, respect, and teaching kids to accept "no," emphasizing that such moments are valuable learning experiences. The episode then shifts to a humorous “dorm room doom scroll,” where Kylie critiques excessive college decor, joking about the absurdity of peel-and-stick wallpaper and framed photos. She transitions into a special guest appearance with Sandra Bullock, a longtime favorite actress and mother, who shares stories from her film career and family life. A fun “Blind Ranking” game highlights her iconic movie outfits, with the purple dress from *Miss Congeniality* winning praise for its authenticity and personal significance. Kylie also touches on body confidence in girls’ sports, referencing Dove’s evidence-based program to support young athletes. Throughout, the conversation blends humor, vulnerability, and parenting wisdom, celebrating real-life messiness while promoting resilience. The episode includes light product placements for health, tech, and parenting tools, all integrated organically into the narrative to support busy families. Ultimately, it’s a warm, authentic exploration of modern parenting, identity, and the joy found in everyday chaos.
- You are called America's sweetheart.
- There's a couple of us.
- That exhale.
- Betty White is everything.
I say is everything 'cause I know
she's still floating around.
- Did you think to yourself, I look fucking hot?
- No.
- You should've.
- I put on a dress the other day and she said,
"I like that, mm, nevermind, it looks bad."
- I was getting on a Zoom and she walks by and she went,
"You know, you can put a filter on that."
- What was Jason's take on your dorm room?
- That's a large man in a twin XL.
- Not gonna lie, I may or may not have been recording
some content today and hit my head.
Good news, it's on camera.
Bad news, I now have a unicorn horn.
Or is that good news?
I don't know.
Let's get this podcast started.
Welcome back to a very special Back to School/Sandra Bullock
episode of Not Gonna Lie, a WAVE original
brought to you by Apple Pay.
If you were one of the many real ones
who guessed our guest correctly
from my very, very discreet clues last week,
are we calling those discreet?
Okay, just know I'm thinking the exact same thing.
I have no idea how we got Sandra Bullock to come on this show,
but we did.
And whether or not I have no business speaking to her,
she was on, and now you guys get to watch it.
Okay, I'm gonna try and focus for now.
I'm your host, Kylie Kelsey,
indifferent on pumpkin spice lattes.
Although, fun fact, Queen Emma is a basic ass bitch.
And she loves a pumpkin spice.
She holds herself together until September 1st,
and then she lets loose.
I'm also a supporter of teachers everywhere.
I grew up in a household where I had female influences
in my life that were working in the school system.
And so I have a deep appreciation for educators
and everyone that works in a school.
I'm also a mom of four daughters,
three of whom are back to school for first grade,
kindergarten and preschool three this week.
Oh gosh, coming up on today's episode,
I'm gonna get honest about back to school
in the Kelsey house, spoiler alert.
We're one and a half days in,
and it's already as chaotic and ridiculous as you'd think.
We're also gonna do a back to school special doom scroll,
where I'm gonna talk about what my dorm room looked like
at Cabrini and the teacher who famously invented,
the fart corner.
Yup, you heard that, right?
I said fart corner.
After that, the real ones already know.
I'm gonna be joined by one of my favorite actresses
of all time, the star of Miss Congeniality,
and now Practical Magic 2, Sandra Bullock.
What?
Oh my gosh.
Just, yep, still can't believe it.
Okay, we're trying to stay focused.
Let's start with our real one comment of the week.
This is from real one, Mimi.
Mimi S.K. on Instagram.
We need Kylie's take on Oreo gate, please and thank you.
Okay, for anyone unfamiliar with Oreo gate,
here are the spark notes, basically, from parents.com.
The issue began when a mom reportedly asked the parents
in her daughter's kindergarten group chat
to stop packing Oreos in their kids' lunches.
Her reason?
Her daughter wasn't allowed to eat them at home.
The mom then reportedly contacted the school
about creating an approved snack list.
The school responded,
that while it encourages healthy choices,
what goes into each child's lunchbox
is ultimately up to their parents.
Now, I saw this play out in a TikTok
that was basically screenshot for screenshot
and what the other parents in this group chat responded,
which I will tell you,
they were surprisingly gentle to this parent.
My first instinct is just a really simple,
like that's a you problem.
Right?
I fully support the opportunity for parents
to feed their kids whatever they feel
is going to be the best choice for their kids.
That is entirely your business.
But you can't bring your thoughts and feelings
into somebody else's lunchbox.
That's not for you.
Get your nose out of their lunchbox.
And also, not to take it that much further,
but I'm gonna do it anyway.
I really feel like this is a learning,
learning moment that one of the reasons
why I say no to my kids on a regular basis,
besides the fact that they shouldn't just be given
everything and anything they ask for,
is because I want them to hear
and be comfortable with the response no,
so that when they get out into the world,
that when someone tells them no,
that they hear that,
that they respect it and they listen.
That's easy.
I've met a lot of kids that hear the word no
and either think that they're in trouble
because they heard the word no,
which is a little odd,
which is a little odd for me,
or they don't respect the word no,
because they're like, that's not an answer I get.
I don't know how to respond to that.
This is a moment for me,
for that mom to say to her kid,
we don't have snacks like that in our household.
And if so-and-so, if Sally has that in her lunchbox,
that's because I'm not her, I'm not Sally's mom.
I will also say, I hope this school staff had a good laugh.
I hope they had a belly laugh about this one,
because sometimes you gotta laugh so you don't cry
or rip your hair out.
I would like to also put this out there.
If this weren't a situation where,
let's say hypothetically,
Oreos had some type of allergen in them
that was severe reaction for the child in question
that is not getting Oreos in their lunchbox,
then this is obviously a conversation
to have amongst the parents of that classroom,
to be respectful of the child
who has literal medical need.
So let's just, let's go there.
That's not the situation.
The mom just doesn't want to tell her kid no
and be responsible for the fallout
of telling her kid no about Oreos.
I kind of want to give that kid an Oreo.
I'm kidding, I respect your decision.
Well, since we're already talking about lunch controversies,
let's talk about everything else back to school
with a little, "Can I Be Honest?"
brought to you by MOTS.
It's all about being respectful to our core.
This week, can I be honest about back to school
with four kids, six and under?
I can, great, let's get into it.
Wyatt is in first grade
and I'm going to tell you last year, we went through this.
We went through the motions of, I shouldn't say motions,
we went through the emotions
of dropping her off for kindergarten
and me realizing that was me dropping her off
for school for the rest of her life.
So funny how that works.
But then I realized this year,
the difference between kindergarten and first grade,
that's a grade, she's a grader, that's so messed up.
She went in and she was a little shy, she's a little shy,
but I think she felt good about the fact
that Ellie was right next door in the classroom
that she was in last year
because now Ellie's in kindergarten.
Also, rude, dumb, don't like it.
Ellie did not want to leave my side.
She clipped her little finger onto the sweatshirt
that was tied around my waist and would not let go.
She was clipped onto me like this and wouldn't let it go.
She was very pleased about being in kindergarten.
She told every single person she came in contact with
that morning that it was her first day of kindergarten,
which is adorable.
One of the cutest things I've ever heard.
And also,
like just salt in the wound over and over and over again.
Ellie always says goodbye to me.
Usually she turns around and usually it's like a bye mom,
I love you and very enthusiastic.
Unlike my first child who does this
when not turning around, still gets me.
I don't ever want them to cry.
Part of me is like, I want you to be sad about leaving me,
but also I would hope that you're okay with that.
I hope that your enthusiasm and excitement for school
overrides that emotion and does not cause tears.
That worries me.
I don't want them to cry.
I don't want them to cry, especially when I'm not there.
I did not cry this year and here's why.
I had field hockey this morning.
So this morning was the first official get out of the car.
Don't, I didn't go, like nobody goes in with them.
I didn't cry this morning 'cause I had field hockey
and I didn't have to drop them off.
Tomorrow, who knows?
Every single first day of school, we have taken a picture.
In the same spot on a little path out in front of our house.
The little walkway.
I take it in the exact same place every year.
And yesterday I took individual photos of Wyatt and Ellie.
And then I said, will you guys go stand next to each other?
And I'm not kidding.
They stood about three feet apart
and both looked like they were taking mug shots.
They had completely straight faces
and were nowhere near each other.
And I was like, hey guys,
can you act like you like each other?
And Wyatt proceeds to continue standing
in the exact same spot.
And Ellie goes over and smushes her face
into Wyatt's shoulder and like squeezes her
as hard as she could.
And I was like, this is like the perfect depiction
of the two of you.
I do not do the board because,
guys, you know I'm not, I'm not type A enough for that.
that. If I had a board,
I would have lost it after the first time. That's a lie. Guys, I bought a board this year
and I still didn't use it. Maybe I'll use it for Benny. Let's be real. That's two weeks from now.
I'm probably going to lose it by then. One thing I'm not excited about being back is me being back
to packing three tiny human lunches in the morning. It is garbage. It is so, oh God, it's
just so daunting, which sounds ridiculous. I know that there are bigger problems in the world than
making lunch. And I would like to say the hopefully obvious sentiment of, I am very
fortunate to be able to have food to put in my kids' lunches. I am. It is so daunting to look
at three empty lunchboxes and have to make sure that you're putting in the things that those
individuals are going to eat.
Typically,
I'll take maximum 12 minutes in the morning to make lunches.
I'm not doing cute little bento boxes. I have not gotten into the whole like,
let's pour the boiling water into the hot cup and then put the mac and cheese in there. It's
still piping hot. I'm not that mom. I don't want to do little shapes in my shit. I don't want to
do any of that. And to be perfectly honest with you, occasionally, I will put a note in there
or a little treat.
That gets more of a reaction, a positive reaction from our girls than I think shapes or anything
else would. For allergy purposes, not of my children, but of other people that we are around.
The thing that we have defaulted to is a bagel and cream cheese. Occasionally, we'll do
like banana muffins. And I will get this. Wow. You guys are going to come at me for this one.
Sometimes I put cottage cheese or yogurt into the muffins so that there's a little more
substance or protein in them. Whoa. Going against my own words there, huh?
Not often. Do not. Don't even be out here being like,
she makes muffins, fresh muffins every morning. I don't. Occasionally, I do that.
You want to know when I do that? When I've bought too many bananas,
and my kids have told me no about bananas so long that they go brown.
And then I try to do one. One thing that is like a refrigerated good, which would be like a cheese stick or a yogurt tube.
One of the fruits my kids will consistently eat are apples. The problem with sending apples is that
you wash them off when you get them. So then do you put them in a baggie
so that they don't get dirty in the lunchbox or roll out of the lunchbox and get dirty?
Do you pack them with a paper towel so they don't get bruised? But we've all seen how kids treat
their back.
This is a whole thing. And honestly, it's what has driven us exactly where you think.
It's Matz applesauce pouches.
And they sponsored this segment, but I'm being dead ass. I grew up on Matz applesauce. So
we always used to have a container of it in the fridge because everybody knows
ice cold applesauce on pork chop night. Cold applesauce, yum. Especially when it's still hot
like it is today. And they're probably sweaty.
And gross at school. And then they get the refreshing cold applesauce. Yum.
And also, an apple takes a while for a five, six-year-old to get through. I don't know about
your kids, but my five-year-old can make like a 30-minute ordeal out of a single apple.
The kid in my house that loves this the best is Finn. I truly think that if we let her
eat as many as she brought to us, she might eat six in a day. Now, I don't actually let that
happen.
We say,
but she'll try. Guys, you can feel good about this snack. It's made from real apples. There's
no added sugar. It's real ingredients that you can feel good about. And you can also feel good
about the fact that it's easy to eat for the kids. It doesn't get all over the inside of
their lunchbox and you can't bruise it. All right, that does it for Can I Be Honest
About Back to School brought to you by Matz. Sandra Bullock is coming up very soon. But first,
a quick back to school edition of Doom Scroll of the Week brought to you by
Apple Pay. First up, apparently, people are spending an absurd amount of time and money
decorating their dorm rooms now. This is crazy to me. Watch this clip.
No. Immediately, no. Guys, we're doing. Yes. Yes. Yes. I mean, people are doing peel and stick wallpaper. Marbled peel and stick
wallpaper on their desktop. They are bringing in. Bringing in IKEA furniture to make it look
like they have a full-size dresser. There are whole decorative chairs happening. There are
window treatments. There are framed things on the wall. Framed. Framed. Let me tell you high-end
luxury of when I was in college. Okay? High-end luxury.
High-end luxury.
High-end luxury.
Lights are on the top of the room. Christmas lights are on the top of the room. Tapestries?
Big deal. The idea of hanging up framed photos blows my mind because all I can see in a dorm room,
truly all I can see is either. There were 2 options. Okay? You were either putting string
across and clothes pinning your pictures up or all of your photos really tight together in a
collage formation.
And also, once upon a time, I had a carpet in a dorm room and we had to cut a piece off the carpet
because someone had too much to drink. We literally cut a square out. Guys, college. College. You
don't need this. You don't. And also, but at the same time, here's the thing.
At the end of the day, if this is what makes you comfortable, if this is what helps you to not
feel as homesick, if it gives you the comforts of home, if it makes you. If it makes it feel better for you, have at it. But I do think there should be a hint of struggle.
What was Jason's take on your dorm room? Queen Emma wants to know. LOL. Gotcha.
Yeah, he was in there. He was in there.
You know what? That's a big man in a twin XL.
LOL. That's a large man in a twin XL. I'll tell you what. He didn't fit well.
But you know what? I do love a snuggle.
All right. Last scroll. I've said it before. I come from a fart funny household. Farts are funny.
That's it. There's nothing as straightforward as I can get. Farts are funny. And if you don't think
so, I'm sorry that that's. You're missing out. You know I have thoughts on the viral fart corner
that this teacher instituted.
Let's see it so we can check it out together.
This is our. It's a sign that says fart corner.
This is our fart corner. If you need to fart, simply come over here. Fart. Take about 10 seconds.
Yes.
A little spray going on. Go sit down. Nobody's paying attention. Nobody cares. Nobody's worried
about it.
Now, I love this for so many reasons. I love it because first of all, it's hilarious. Second,
I love it because. It normalizes farts, which is a bodily function and we should really chill out about it,
but also they're funny. Now, obviously, when you see something that is this
out of the ordinary, and again, funny, where do we go, everyone?
To the comments. That's right. We sprint to the comments because that's where we belong.
I can't. The first comment says, why is. Hold on. I got it. I got it. I got it.
Why isn't it called the gas station?
Oh, God. People are funny.
Next comment says, everyone is. It says everyone is paying attention and everyone is going to kick. Oh my God. The next one says, when they're. It says, when they're bad, move their desk over there. Oh my God.
I can't. Anyway, my initial thoughts on the fart corner is that this is hilarious.
I would like to bring up the fact that one of these comments brought up a great point.
Everyone is going to pay attention when you end up in the fart corner and everyone is going to care
because again, farts are funny. Maybe we should start a new craft. No longer suck my ass. It's
farts are funny.
I want to know from this teacher, if the corner is used. That's what I want to know.
I want to know the frequency of use. I also want to know what age classroom this is in.
I feel strongly that it has to be elementary school. If it's not, there is no way in hell.
I mean, not a chance in hell that a middle schooler or high schooler is showing up in that
corner. I have told my kids, don't trust a fart at school. If you need to fart, you need to go
to the bathroom. Because my fear is that they're going to trust a fart that they shouldn't have
trusted. And then I'm going to get called, hey, can you bring some new underwear up to school?
We're going to need some new undies. I don't want that. I'm not saying it happens often. I'm just
afraid of the moment that it happens being at school. Because at home, quick fix. That does
it for Doom Scroll brought to you by Apple Pay. Sandra Bullock is coming up. This message is

As a type C mom, back to school means one thing. Packing lunches, three lunchboxes spanned out in
front of you. Everybody likes different things. You never know what's actually going to hit.
And the true reviews come after school. But something I can easily pack and always count on
and get positive reviews for is the Mott's squeezable pouches.
They make packing lunches easy. This doesn't bruise because a bruised apple means that fruit's
not getting eaten. So this is the perfect compromise. And who doesn't love ice cold
Mott's applesauce? Honestly, I was raised on it. Mott's is made from real apples and no sugar added.
Apparently, there's a new TikTok trend where kids pack their parents' lunchboxes. Which child I would
give this task to? I think I'm going to go with Ellie because honestly, I know she's going to pack
me a sweet treat.
So is not going to forget some type of fruit. But I want to know what your tiny humans would
pack for you real ones. Show us what crazy lunch your kids put together. And don't forget to tag
Mott's and at NGL with Kylie. Pick up Mott's pouches and win the back to school season for
you and your kids. The place you call home is important to you. So it's important to all state

actresses of all time. The Academy Award winning badass, you know, from such iconic movies as
Miss Congeniality, The Proposal, Speed, The Heat,
Gravity, and of course, Practical Magic. Speaking of, Practical Magic 2 is out September 10th.
I cannot fucking wait. She's also a fellow mom, animal lover, and now she's officially not going
to lie. I can't believe I'm saying this, Sandra Bullock. Welcome to the show. I'm going to start
with my own not going to lie. I was very recently watching Miss Congeniality with, which is one of
my favorite movies. It's the best. With my nieces, my teenage nieces who had not seen it. To their
credit, they don't watch a whole lot of it. They don't watch a whole lot of it. They don't watch
a whole lot of movies. Okay. But I was like, you need to see this. This is like, this is like
kind of a rite of passage. You need to watch this movie. There's no way you should be going about
your life without having to see this. I agree. And so needless to say, I put the movie on and
they fell asleep. No, no. We proceeded to get distracted by my young children. Okay. And so
we ended up in the kitchen. Am I going to like this story? Yes. It's lovely. Just making sure
you finish it. Go ahead. Well, we did not finish watching it that time. We did end up getting back
to it. But the one person who stayed in the living room and watched it till the finish
was my husband by himself. That's right. Because we made it for men. Yes. Everyone knows that.
It's a how-to guide. That's it. Yeah. Jason loves the movie, obviously. He sat there through it and
was like, yeah, I get it. And I was like, no, no, like you need to, like the girls need to see this
talking about our nieces. And he was like, like, is this like top of the list? And I was like,
no, no, it's like very high on the list of movies that are how old they should have seen.
Uh, 17 and 18. Okay. I cannot emphasize how much I love that movie. It's a, it's a, it's,
it's sweet. It's like good natured. It's so good. And like, you know, William Shatner, I mean,
how it, you can't, you can't, it just, and Benjamin Bratt and all the girls and Candice
it just, it just worked. It did. No one thought it would when we were making it. Really? Go figure.
Um, yeah. And we were shooting in Austin. It was like a hundred degrees, like for 90 days straight.
We smelled like cheese. It was horrible, but it was, it was a bunch of good natured human beings
going, we just want to make people laugh. Yes. And you did. And we did. Yeah. And it was outstanding.
Yeah. I can never figure out what part of the movie sits the heaviest with me. Like I,
which, which one is my favorite? I do think it is the trip and fall is just,
Oh, it's just the art of the trip and fall.
Yeah. It's one of the best reveals.
Which trip and fall did you like? There was a trip, the trip and fall on the, on the makeover.
And the Herve Leger dress, which had like eight Spanx underneath and like seven chicken cuts.
Is that what was happening? Cause it didn't look like it.
That whole dress is basically a walking Spanx. It's like, they put it in the palm of their hand,
go hear wardrobe. But I was like, some things are just going to move too much. So I put on like
two sets of Spanx. I had the chicken, you know, the little chicken cut list of six of those and
the heat sliding.
all over the place. I mean, it was, you know, and on the trip, there was a little mat down there
and things would move and they'd have to slide them back into position because so much of what's
up there is not me. But it was, you know, I love a fall. I love an accident. I love an accident.
It was so good. Now, have your kids seen Miss Congeniality?
They have. They don't care. They don't. You know what? I'm kind of glad that they don't care. Like,
I don't want them to know that what my, like people who do jobs that go to the office every
day, the kids don't care. They just care if you come back with stuff for them. They knew about
craft service. That's what my job was, a place that had extensive craft service.
This is so relatable because my kids,
things like that, they don't care. They don't care. They don't care. They don't care.
I think that when they go to football, they get water ice.
They get what?
Water ice. Water ice.
What is water ice?
Like a slushy, but you eat it with a spoon.
Yeah. Wow.
Rita's. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I described it like that. That was so disrespectful of me.
But they swear. They're like, one of the last times we went to football.
Even when their dad is playing?
Yes.
Okay.
Because it's boring.
I mean, he's, so he's, not that his-
His playing is boring.
But to the children-
This, oh, for sure.
Yeah.
He's, um-
Like, this would be boring for your kids.
This will be his third season not playing. And so we went the first season he wasn't
playing to training camp and we went to watch football.
They know it is.
No.
No.
And, but they got water ice.
So they were like-
Priorities.
Completely fine.
It really, it really is.
Yeah.
Yeah, but that, that tracks.
Yeah, it does.
Okay. I do have one more question about Miss Congeniality.
Is, uh, is it true that the Gracie snort was not in the game?
No, that's me.
That's me.
Because when I, when I exhale, I got to take equal amounts of air back in.
Because it's a balance thing.
Yeah, exactly.
Greg.
It's a passing out thing.
Yeah.
Because when it's really good-
Yeah.
It's all got to come out.
Yeah.
Well, the, the Gracie's talent show specifically with the cups.
Yeah.
Outstanding.
Yeah.
But the self-defense lesson.
Good, right?
So good.
How to do self-defense.
That, that outfit, brilliant, was made by-
Um, the costume designer for the, the ballet company in Austin.
It was incredible.
That actually makes a lot of sense.
It's good, right?
With the tutu.
Yes.
But you, you always want to make sure that the portion of your thigh that you're not
happiest with is covered up.
Sure.
So I was like, can you lower the tutu?
No, a little lower.
And then we got up on that stage and the camera was down there.
I went, um, no.
Yeah.
You're not going to be putting the, don't go below the tutu.
No, no.
We covered that.
Get up here.
We covered, yeah.
So it was all about navigating the tutu and the camera angle.
That's so good.
Now, that talent show dress.
That dress was an iconic look.
Yes.
Yes.
And I'd love to talk to you more about your movie fashion with a game we sometimes like
to play called Blind Ranking.
Blind Ranking.
Okay.
So it's not Boyfriends.
Are you familiar with that?
No.
No.
No.
Boyfriends.
Wasted time.
What are you talking about?
So Queen Emma has five images here of some of your most memorable.
Wait, is Queen Emma here?
Yes.
Queen Emma's right back there.
Oh, that's, you're the Emma.
Yes.
Yes.
Oh my God.
Like I had you as really, really tall and like you came in like.
Wow.
Oh, that's such a compliment.
There's always a little crown that, you know.
Okay.
Aw.
So Queen Emma has five images here of some of your most memorable movie outfits.
Am I not supposed to see them?
Because I saw this one.
We're going to, we're going to look over you, but you have to rank them one through two.
five okay one being the best are you gonna give them all to me so i can switch oh you're not allowed
to switch them that's the blind part okay okay first up the wedding dress from the proposal
what's betty's hands on my boobs i mean and her quote saying it's like an easter egg i'm trying
to find your boobs outstanding hello it's still good like some things never change but only betty
gets to search was she everything betty white is everything i say is everything because i know
she's still floating around she we had a day where we on we were on this little boat it was
ryan betty i think just me i don't think anyone else is on it and it was freezing and they're
like sandra do you want a jacket i'm like yes i'm in these heels and i'm freezing and i have
this big down coat and ryan's got a down coat and then i sit down next to betty and i'm freezing
and i'm like will you get betty and they go betty will you do you want anything she goes no i'm fine
i'm like fucker she is she is
she was the epitome of a human who lived her best life found the best love
made lemonade out of absolutely everything had timing that was unbelievable incredible the women
of that time if you look at that the comedians had the most incredible timing yes and to watch
her work was like like nothing you just don't even bother to say anything funny don't try just let it
be betty because she just she just could own a room she's incredible our three-year-old currently
asks for the gold girls the gold the gold girls watch the gold so we watch golden girls in the
morning sometimes when it's just my three-year-old that's kind of to be fair she wears pearls she's
she's a stop she's very special she's a reincarnated like old lady what if she was
um so the proposal yes am i gonna rank that yes you have to rank that look the wedding dress from
the proposal because of betty i say two i don't put it one because you might come i need to need
i might need a number one yeah yeah okay okay perfect number two um this next one is practical
magic when you're you're doing the run no that that t-shirt jean shorts boots and again
faith hill saved me in this scene because more was bouncing up and down that shouldn't have been
bouncing it wasn't it was the bot i was like you know and you're like please don't make sure the
camera doesn't see the landing part you know when you hit and everything just goes down like that
so that's why the shorts was that length and not a little shorter i have to tell you this is this
outfit right here is a perfect example of i still coach high school field hockey i tell my athletes
all the time that we we had it first this outfit today would kill slap kill as the kids would say
the wellies they wouldn't do so much we need to bring those back the hundreds i've got a whole
closet full of them they're just they make an outfit yep yep but the i mean yeah emma's saying
slay slay queen emma says slay i slayed that day but this is but this is the type of outfit where
like you wore then it fit yeah and now it's it's gosh it's all that and i got i got to run to mark
feuerstein who was so beautiful standing there with that smile and an apron it's kind of nice
um not a bad finish line not a bad finish i'd put that at um oh god this is going to be hard
so i'm trying to think of what else that you could i might have to put this at five okay
don't give me that look because you're going do you really want to put it yes i'm gonna put that
at five all right okay i mean i don't you're not me you're not me i have a different ranking okay
god okay okay but i know it's coming i'm remembering how i felt in the in the clothes
yes it's all about how you feel in the outfit yes i'm remembering the imprint on my brain when
i saw you in it okay okay you have this one i have my i think this is i for me you got another
one number one oh snap uh next up is the purple dress from miss congeniality you know the amount
of effort that went into making that that i might have to put that at number one thank you for doing
that yeah we do have it we have to show we have to look at the clip it's all been
i mean are you kidding i mean right
and what you don't see in this is that my face from the night before we'd shot like a 13 hour
night and you know that green face mask i had on yes i didn't want them touching me so just leave
it on just keep you and it started cracking and it cracked my skin so i had little roadmaps of
where the cracks were so you don't see that here because film is forgiving bad crack outstanding
yeah i'd crack
did you think to yourself i look fucking hot no you should have i don't think
i'm trying to honestly think of any time that i thought i felt hot
and it's always when you're like roll out of it like you have your hair is just cute and tousled
and like a pair of jeans and t-shirt and no one can see it yes that's when i look hot it's wasted
and it's wasted on my children well is it wasted on us we get to we get to see i mean i get to see
yeah i get to see and go you know what cute go ahead girl if anyone gets a photo of me looking
like that it's never as cute as i thought weird doesn't translate interesting but i don't think
i've ever left the house thinking i look hot you killed that scene that scene because i could make
it funny i knew the lead-up was to a funny that's why i could work it like that if i was trying to
be serious i couldn't work it like that okay that's fair they asked me to do runway and i say
i can't kidding no one has ever asked me to do runway and i say i can't kidding no one has ever
asked me to do runway and i say i can't kidding no one has ever asked me to do runway and i say i can't
kidding no one has ever asked me to do runway and i say i can't kidding no one has ever asked me to do runway
you guys were like really why would you say no that no why would you say something like that
because they haven't asked because they haven't asked me yeah okay so are you putting that at one
that's at one yeah um yes yes so we got that at one we have betty at two we have shorts at five
yes and we have two more coming um did you get to keep that dressed no okay we had such a low budget
that was a big designer and we had to return almost everything unless we built it unless
anyone worn it since have you seen it can
you get it you know it's a drag queen needs to work it like with really long legs like rupaul that
would be good ru the dress hit it you hit it okay now we have to throw this one in there for funsies
we have gravity spacesuit oh i had that i had that i had that okay so you got to keep it home
i got to keep that i took that home yeah okay i have that was it fun to put on
was it heavy that that was fun because by the time i was in that i was sitting in the soyuz
george and i didn't have to pretend like i was doing martha graham because that was all me doing
slow motion movement while you know i was speaking at normal speed um but yeah it was actually very
comfortable really comfortable um now you've worked with some incredible actors george clooney
anne hathaway keanu reeves melissa mccarthy just to name a couple if you could reunite with any of
those co-stars which would you choose
it's a hard one because it's like who makes you better like who makes you like battling with
melissa comedically like i will go back to anybody for the funny if it's the right setup you know i
don't want to repeat too much i know we do in practical magic too but i feel like that wants
to be said for a plethora of reasons um i loved working with hugh grant he's so brilliant and
crabby and just he's brilliant he's crabby he owns it he's a great actor he's a great actor
and it just works for him um i don't think you know what betty white bring back betty if i could
have another moment thank you for doing that i would yeah for everybody see what i did though
yes please dear god uh now where are you ranking this space suit oh god yeah so i've got one and
two covered one and two and five three it's gonna be three perfect yeah now number four i know what
it's gonna be is it gonna be
the toots it's not oh one in a million it is one in a million oh that scene when we shot that that
we all were like all of us girls when we shot it we were like we are the best dancers we are
fabulous like we were you were we were everything you guys nailed it we nailed it we had a the coach
who coaches actual pageants the man who was there was beautiful he was so beautiful like he was
buff he had that tousled hair sort of you know like jeans t-shirt kind of guy he was
didn't want us but no looked like he maybe could have wanted us but didn't but we were all just
so in love with him and anything he asked to do he goes could you guys lean forward we're like
like this like that more yeah he was he was incredible but when the music played we were
in an auditorium and at over at ut and we thought we were the we were just it because
you were it we were yeah do you remember the choreography oh yeah well no no when i see it
i go you're like what i pieces of it pieces of it yeah yeah maybe we'll hit it later so that'll be
that's four right yeah no you're gonna hit it because you've seen it more recently i have seen
it multiple times recently do you know the choreography no no no maybe next time we see
each other i'm not um don't have to be i'm you just need handsome man to come teach you perfect
yeah come through please yes
um now is it true that you purposely didn't do dance rehearsals so that gracie would come off
more authentic and a little more clunky yeah because i love to dance
Do you?
Love it.
I love it.
I mean, maybe you can teach me.
Well, do you want to?
We can do a little session.
Perfect.
I just didn't want her because like my desire was like, I have to look as good
as possible.
Yeah.
I'm like, you know. And she can't look that great.
No.
Yeah.
She has to do her job and assess the crowd.
I love it.
Yeah.
Okay.
How do you. Do you feel good about the rankings?
I do.
We never kind of took it easy on you without throwing a curveball in at the end there.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
That's weird.
Well, we talked a little bit about Practical Magic earlier, but I'm excited to talk to
you about Practical Magic 2.
Once again, it's out next Thursday when this episode releases.
We rewatched Practical Magic 1, magical, true, like in every sense of the word.
What is the best part about playing Nicole Kidman's sister?
Is that like in real life, we are completely. Different.
We are completely different, but oddly matching when it comes to life experiences, like things,
how we approach things, events and like, like weirdly, like we can. It's like two halves of a whole, the same thing as it is in the movie.
And we play off of each other, the timing really well because you just give us a set
of lines in a situation and you put us against each other and it's gonna work because we
approach it in completely different ways.
And if we have to be combative, it works.
If we have to be loving, it works.
We both fall into who we're supposed to be as a sisters really well.
Now, the soundtrack on the first one, before we started filming, we were talking
about how it was perfection.
It was perfection.
It saved us.
It actually was a whole other character in the film.
It's crazy because I mentioned we rewatched it yesterday.
It was time after time of me being like, "Oh God, I love this song."
of me being like, Oh God, good. Yes. Yeah. Now I, I would like to know, I need you to tell me,
Okay.
And we can bleep it if we need to.
Okay.
Yes.
Are there any like sleeper songs in this one where you're like, people are going to be
surprised and excited?
You mean by the artists that are in it?
If that's. Or is there a song that I think will really hit and make people just go. Yes.
Yes.
Can you tell us what it is?
We'll bleep it.
Although it's out tomorrow.
I cannot tell you this song.
No, I can't.
There was, there's a song in it that. Is there one that comes to mind?
Yes.
Yeah. There's one that comes to mind later. It's a cover of a song. Oh, that Brandy Carlile does.
Okay. And it is, it was one of my, it's a song that I've been carrying around for like 20 years
going, this is the greatest song. And she said she would, she would cover it. And it's, it's a
song that has to cover three scenes in three different generations. And it's that song that,
cause I kept saying when we were making the film, I kept looking up at the sky going, I didn't know
like about my mom and my grandmother i didn't know you as young i didn't know what your feelings
were i didn't know you had the same feelings and the wants and the longing that i did you know and
i it's i think most kids can say that of their parents you just know them as old parents yes
always even though they might have had you as a teenager you're just still an old parent
um and so i looked at that and i was like what song supports saying i didn't know and i'm sorry
you know and but i'm always going to be here and and there's a billy joel song called and so it
goes and she she covered it and it just like it's it's really beautiful gets right in the fields
yeah well yeah so now we know as to all the mamas and the grandmothers going we wish we would have
known you at our age and when we were younger so we would have known what you longed for what
dreams didn't come true who you were when you were brave and wild you know so well we're screwed
yeah bring the tissues got it um now i know we can't spoil anything but i have to ask are
midnight margaritas back yes but in a different way i love that yes um and do you have your own
personal version of a midnight margarita because we were brainstorming ahead of time and i think
that mine would be like an eight o'clock olipop thank you olipop virgin olipop just probiotic
drink okay like it i like to call those you know the drink drinks are called mama's little helper
perfect and if they happen they have to happen fairly early in the day great because i like to
be in bed by a certain time so a midday margarita a midday margarita yeah because i like to be in
bed so i can get up at the 5 30 time yes um i that what time do you go to sleep what time would you
like to be in bed? Thank you for asking it that way. I would love to be in bed and asleep by 930
at the very latest. Thank you. I like to say that whenever we go out to dinner, I like to call it
the AARP special. I like to have a 515 reservation. That's how I like my dinner. I don't want to have
indigestion. I want to go to bed after I have had time to sit up, digest properly. Watch a little
something on the telly just like mindlessness get the sheets pulled up right to here and the jammies
yes with you totally with you so so what time do you so uh depends who's in the bed yes yeah and
who um has decided that they can or cannot fall asleep yes um i mean recently it's been like a
10 30 situation yeah when the sun's up later they're up later yeah yeah so they have they
have they have a tendency of that yeah now as someone who has been given some ridiculous names
um wait you were given a name i've been given names so there's um uh a letterman jacket an
eagles philadelphia eagles letterman jacket yeah that was famously worn by princess diana
really yes and it was iconic it's incredible and in philadelphia it's like one of our claims
to fame it's embarrassing how much we bring it up honestly yeah do you have a photo of it well
we we can get a photo of it but the they re-released the jacket and it was a limited
release it was maybe 500 of them a letterman jacket like that it's high school a winter so
this is the jacket that's her wearing it and so they for for charity because i wouldn't have
agreed to it any other way i recreated the photo with the jacket so look at that yep
yep and you know what you know don't look at it too long why because that's not your head
no because it's embarrassing and i don't like having my photo taken you're so photogenic thank
you so much for saying that it's a very pixelated screen it's okay we like to call that soft focus
soft focus we love a soft i love soft focus we do um but because of that yeah i got the
nickname princess kiana which is ridiculous this is kiana uh there's also some the duchess of delco
so don't don't look too much into it wasn't looking but go ahead um but this all takes
me this is going somewhere right are we going somewhere there's a destination sure and it's
not delaware county anyway it's that you are called america's sweetheart there's a couple
of us that exhale there's a there's a there's a couple there's a couple of you that in the
summary when searched meg ryan and shirley temple are oh shirley's in there shirley's in there
good old shirley with shirley but think about no one knows who shirley temple is go back and look
at this like crackers in your soup i mean in this curl like just so good i still feel like she was
like a 50 year old woman that just didn't have a growth spurt you know what i mean like she was
an old lady in that tiny little body betty yeah it's best so we're from shirley to betty to your
your daughter yeah to benny to benny benny betty there you go uh now do you agree with this title
of being America's sweetheart?
I love that you looked at me like, what title?
Well, I was like, what?
It took us, we went on a journey.
We went on a journey.
Are you America's sweetheart?
Do you know what?
It's, it's, I didn't give it to myself.
Um, it comes with a lot of responsibility
that I don't think I'm prepared to carry.
Um, if it's, if it's me just trying to do the right thing
and be a decent person, great, I'll take it.
But it does sort of put you on a pedestal that you don't belong on.
And then you fall off the pedestal.
And that's what happens daily.
You should probably ask people who know me if I belong there.
Does she belong there?
But don't ask her.
She's a publicist.
She's going to say, she's going to say, yes, that's why I'm asking her.
You don't ask the publicist.
Yes, I'm getting very enthusiastic.
Have the people that live under my roof.
I think, you know, it's nice.
It's really nice.
It's a lot of responsibility.
Okay. Yeah. Cause you can't have a bad day in public. I think you can. Not in public.
Well, um, I will say, I have a feeling you also get this, but people often tell me
that I'm relatable. Oh, you are very much so. I thank you for saying that. I think it's your
potty mouth. It's like the body of an F-bomb. I actually, I always relate this. I relate being
relatable to being a mess like i think that it's you mean real i think it's the gentle way of
people being like you're a fucking disaster you're chaos and you're real and you're not hiding it and
you're going this is all this is what it is it's all i've got yeah that's all i got yeah yeah and
then we have a nice glam squad that fixes it and that lasts what two hours before it goes up in a
bun how long before your hair goes up um or do you let it stay down away from my kids i will let it
stay down a little bit longer with my kids, but it's not down. It's not down. Yeah.
It's not down.
Yeah.
My first has a habit of telling me, I don't like your hair in a bun.
Yeah.
And I'm like, thank you so much.
I literally wear it in a bun 90% of the time.
That's when they're younger.
Louie hated my hair up.
Mama, your hair down.
Really?
I'm like, what's wrong with my face?
You know, I was like, is it this?
He's like, cover it up.
Cover it up.
Cover the face.
They're honest.
I know.
A little too honest.
A little too honest.
No, you know, we appreciate it.
You'd want it no other way.
Now, if you had to pass America's Sweetheart to anybody else, do you have someone that
you think could earn that?
There's a couple of good ones.
Like, just good women that are younger than me.
Like, Emma Stone.
Give it to her.
Lily Collins.
Give it to Lily.
You know, Joey and Maisie in this film.
Like, you know, they have spice now.
The great thing about the younger generation is that they can be spicy.
Yes.
I wasn't allowed to be spicy.
No one wanted me to be spicy.
Sweet.
You know, behind closed doors.
But no one wanted you to have.
They wanted you to be sweet.
They wanted you to be really safe.
But they, I think now people are okay with the balance.
There's a lot of good women out there that could definitely take that.
I pass the baton to happily.
Love that.
With the chaos of four girls and back to school, I need all the help I can get.
Good thing the CVS health app helps me handle my health care needs all year round.
And it's especially helpful for busy parents or caregivers because it makes the whole health
care experience simpler and more convenient.

You can access free meditations that can help anyone, including mothers and caregivers,
find time for themselves and their health.
Plus, I can stock up on essential warm weather and back to school items like bug spray,
sunscreen and more.
Recently, I had to pick up tissues.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And some hand sanitizer because that was on our back to school list.
I also love that I can refill, track and manage my prescription needs anytime.

Now, field hockey season is back in full swing, and I know it is not only important for
girls to play sports, but for them to thrive in them.
Dove research shows that one in two girls quit sport.
By the age of 14 because of body shaming.
It is absolutely something that we need to focus on and fix.
I have four daughters that hopefully will enjoy sport as much as I did, and I want to
make sure that they feel confident enough to continue on playing because that's exactly
what it is.
It's play and it should be fun.
But Dove is using their global influence to help girls stay in sports with confidence.
They're on a mission to shift focus onto the joy and confidence that keeps them in the game.
While working to combat the increasing self-esteem pressures they face, I'm always careful to make
sure that anytime there's an opportunity to talk about our bodies, it's talking about what our
bodies can do for us as athletes.
And they are backing this message through the body confidence sport program.
The body confidence sport program is the first ever evidence-based tool proven to build body
confidence in girls ages 11 through 17.
Your Dove purchase keeps girls in sports.
Go to Dove dot com to check out the body confidence sport program to share with a coach you
may know Dove Keeper Confident.

track of my health metrics, so I don't have to.
Sometimes I genuinely forget to take care of myself.
It just goes right out the window.
I think to myself, well, I feel tired and a little rundown.
And then I go into my aura app and it says your sleep score was kind of garbage and maybe you
should take a break today.

Now, since I am a retired football wife and you won your Oscar for the blind side, I have
to ask, are you a football fan?
I love all sports.
No, I do.
I love.
I love.
You gave her that answer, didn't you?
No, no.
She knows what I know and what I don't know.
I'm in a basketball family.
My son's a basketball player.
My daughter's a basketball player.
I was a cheerleader.
Yes.
And when I cheered first and 10, no idea what that meant.
I just, you know, I just was here to support the team.
Yes.
My high school boyfriend was a football player.
I, I, I love athletes.
I love and admire athletes and standup comics because it's a muscle.
It's like it's you.
You put yourself out there and it's, it's incredible to me.
And I, I'm the person though, when I'm watching a football game, I'm that person.
And it's, it doesn't help anyone around me.
Nobody.
My son hates it when I'm at the games.
Cause I'm like, no, you know, I, I admire the sport.
I don't root for just one team.
I root for whoever like deserves me to be rooting for them on the day.
You know, when everyone's at the house for the game, I'll sort of, I won't pick, I'll
pick a side that feel feels.
You know, like it, it needs me.
Okay.
You know, um, if you ever need to pick a team.
Yes.
Would you want me to pick one, one in particular with one close second?
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
I can do that.
Maybe the Philadelphia Eagles.
I think that's a great choice.
Close second.
Yes.
The Chiefs.
Okay.
Okay.
I can do that.
Never.
I can do that.
Never.
The Dallas Cowboys.
Sorry.
You know what?
I said what I said.
I grew up.
I grew up.
In DC, you did not even mention Dallas Cowboys.
That was a no, no.
Blasphemous.
Yes.
Yes.
That's correct.
Yeah.
You are correct.
I got you.
I can give you that as long as I get some swag, like a jacket.
I can get you that jacket.
I want to be a duchess as well.
Done.
I want to be royalty.
This is actually so easy.
There's never been an easier lift.
We'll get you a jacket and then you can say, go birds.
I walk into the go birds, go birds.
Is there like a hand signal?
Nope, that's it.
You just go birds.
You need a hand signal.
Literally anybody that's wearing Eagle stuff, you can say go birds.
It's rude if they don't say go birds back.
Got it.
Okay.
It's lovely.
I like to be in the know when I'm sporting stuff.
Do you frequent Philadelphia by chance?
Been there once.
Love it.
Need to be invited.
I only go to where I'm invited.
You are invited.
Just now.
Let's come watch football.
Go birds.
Invite.
Go birds.
Make me bring the kids.
Love it.
And then really be nice to me.
So they go, wait a minute.
Other people go birds.
We can, we can make this real jazzy.
We can like do it on the field.
No, no.
I'm an introvert.
Don't put me on a field.
Just have me.
No.
I like to be in the back.
Thank you so much for saying that.
Why?
Because I will be standing right back there with you.
I like to be like when we go to concerts, I'm in the back.
Like I don't want to embarrass the kids either when I'm doing pulling out my dance moves
because they're epic.
But they don't think so.
So I just sort of stay in the back.
Take it all in.
That's one place where I'm, I'm going to really enjoy letting my dance moves out.
I'm there with you.
In public to embarrass my children specifically.
In the back.
Perfect.
Let's do it.
I will say just one more nod to football is that there was a little bit of a stretch there
in Philadelphia where we were having a little difficulty running the ball.
Running the ball.
Running the ball.
And a lot of people were enjoying.
The audio of you on a phone call saying me run the damn ball.
Run the damn ball.
I was like, wait, someone got me on the phone.
Yeah.
Run the damn ball.
Yeah.
Did you think one of your personal phone calls had been released to Philadelphia?
I did just now.
I started schvitzing just a little bit.
I saw the nervous like.
You said what?
Did you learn anything about football during the movie?
I did when I filmed the movie.
Okay.
Perfect.
Don't ask me about any of it right now.
I can take a hint.
I'm trying to.
I'm trying to.
I'm trying to remember any of it.
Do you know what first and 10 means now?
First down at the 10 yard mark?
Close.
Not somewhat.
No.
Not at all.
This face.
No, no, no.
You got it.
You got it.
Was that right?
Yeah.
So, okay.
Let me ask you something.
If it's like.
It doesn't have to be the 10 yard line.
So, let's say it's like 12 or 13.
Yes.
They still call it first and 10.
Yes.
Because you need 10 yards to get the first down.
I see.
That makes sense.
Yeah.
That's a good rule.
It's the first down of trying to get 10 yards.
Get forward.
Okay.
Got it.
Yes.
Uh-huh.
We're there.
You had it.
So, I saw that.
You had it.
Well, like all moms, we've already been talking about our kids throughout this conversation,
but I'd love to talk some more about motherhood.
How old are your kids now?
16 and a half and 13 and a half.
That's so.
That's.
It's exciting.
And terrifying.
And yes.
Yes.
Don't mind me answering for you.
How's it going?
I'm in it.
You know, my mother always said to me, "Just wait till you have daughters," because I was a difficult child.
in that I didn't do anything, but I looked like I was about to do it all. I was really scared of
her, so I didn't really do much, but I was defiant. I was very defiant. I talked back and, you know,
my daughter does the things I thought about. She is an action girl. We love that. She is
this child. This young soul is one of the bravest people I've ever met. Not because she's willing
to defy me, but because she really has no fear athletically in her voice, in her telling somebody
what she thinks. And I go, as hard as it is on me as a parent, if this is who she's going to go out
into the world and be, she's on the right path. I just have to put bumpers on her. She will run
something like a country. She's incredible. She's incredible. Scares the shit out of me, but
you know, I'm her mom.
I'm her mom for a reason and I'm in it. And that's why I have no life outside of my house.
And my son is like, he's like a 78 year old wise man inside a 16 year old basketball player's
body. He knows everything. He sees everything. He knows things that I don't even know. It's like,
I literally find myself in situations and I go, what would Louis do right now? Because his judgment
is so spot on. Like he can look at humanity and he, you know, in a sea of,
people, he'll go, that's unsafe. That's, and he knows to like, make friends with all,
keep your enemies close, but just sort of assess the room. And he's, he's.
You're not worried about him?
Not. Yes. Every single day he leaves the house every single day, but not for the reason because
of who he is as a human being. Um, but he's, he's one of the sagest people. Like I look at him and
I go, if there's proof in reincarnation, whatever he was before he got here, wasn't, uh, was, uh,
was an evolved, beautiful soul. Yeah. And he's been that way since they put him in my arms,
you know, 10 days old. That's the same kid. Same kid.
Now I like to talk about some of the more humbling and we'll call it overly honest
things that my kids have said to me. Um, some of the ones more recently, uh,
my oldest loves to make comments about how squishy my belly is.
We call that the Dunlop. Cause it Dunlop over your belt.
Okay. Notice the drapey vintage G that I wear.
Um, yep. She, uh, she likes to do that. I told you she, I wear a bun. I'd say 90% of the time.
And she likes to remind me how awful it looks. Um, I put on a dress the other day and she said,
I like that. Nevermind. It looks bad. What was she looking at? Was she focusing on any particular?
I'm unsure. Okay. Um, but,
I don't know if it's the way I turned. Needless to say, I returned it. Yeah. Okay. Who am I?
You know what? You know what? They're the most honest people with you. Your husband knows better
to say, I don't like that. You're damn right. He does. Yes. He's like, babe, you look amazing.
Yes, he does. Yeah. Yeah. And that's not always truthful. I need the honesty. I'm with you,
but you don't need it all. You don't need it from your husband. No, not there. No. And also sometimes
I would like,
a hint of a filter, just a hint, you know, from the kids. Yeah. You're not going to get that.
Let me tell you something. It gets worse. Great. Yeah. That's perfect. Yeah. Uh, yeah. Do you have
anything that stands out that your kids have said to you where you were like, thank you. Yeah. Um,
um, you know, you, Lila, Lila is, is, yeah, she's brutal. Um, I was getting on a zoom,
and she walks by and she went, you know, you can put a filter on that. And I went, what? She goes,
you know, you can make yourself look better. She just types in, she slides and she goes,
put it right there. And it was like, literally like someone taking Vaseline and put a sheet in
front of my face. And I go, okay. And it's still on that same setting. It's like, again, the honesty,
I appreciate. She said I needed to date, but only, um, someone where they can get stuff.
So I said, what a rapper or basketball player. That's, that's the parameters. Like, what is it?
Yeah. She's like, yeah. Okay. Yeah. I went, no, you have to kind of appreciate it because
in that moment she delivered it with harsh honesty. Yeah. She's taking care of the problem.
She's taking care of mom, right? Like she is a fixer. Even my oldest being like that. No,
it doesn't. Yeah. She harsh honesty, but how bad would it have been if I had kept the dress
and worn it out? And how bad if I'd got on that zoom, I wouldn't have gotten the job, right?
Yeah. It's a horror film.
No, I think we should. I mean, I just lean into who they are. I'm like, I meet them exactly where
they are and I go, I'm getting something amazing. Even though I'm crying on the inside,
I'm getting something amazing.
Uh, now I read that you chose the timing, uh, you did to make practical magic too,
because of your kid's schedule and not wanting to lose time with them. Have you navigated this
balance since you first became a mom? I have, I have. Um, it's, you know, to me being a mom,
that's, that's, that's everything.
I mean, my job is great. Um, I didn't expect to be doing it this long. Cause you know,
when I started, nobody did the job this long. Um, my kids are my everything. So if it doesn't
work for them in my time with them, then I'm not doing it. And I'm lucky. I'm lucky that I'm one
of the moms that gets to be with our kids all the time. I have no desire to leave my kids producing
and having my company. I get to make sure everyone else gets to do that if that's what works for
them. Um, and women can kind of do that. Um, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't
make it work. We can, we can, we just do it. People go, how do you keep calm and carry on?
You go, I don't know. I just have to have no choice. Yes. Yeah. Um, now was it a little more
challenging when they were little or is it because maybe, maybe it's just my perception.
We're currently in, we have six, five, three, and one. So it feels very much like you're there
every second of the day. Yeah.
Yeah.
Now that yours are older, I'm sure that there's a little bit more leeway, a different need.
There's a, there's a leeway in that you're not thinking about their physical safety in the same
way. It's like, cause when Lou was a year and a half, two years is when I went off and made
gravity and I, you know, with him in London, but he was a little toddler. So I was like,
he was with me on set. He was, you know, everyone's attention was on Lou. So
I knew he was covered there. I didn't have to think about what camps does he want to be in?
What friends does he want to be with when they get older and they become teenagers?
When they become teenagers, if you take them away from their friends, which I did last summer in
London, that's a hard thing. Lou's a basketball player, had to find the basketball coach, had to
find the tribe that would feel good to him. You know, you can't just throw them in with kids
anymore and go make friends. Um, my daughter was, is a race car driver, literally. And so she
decided she was going to go to carding camp with 16, 17 year olds and just, just learn those
fundamentals of, of that. And she was in heaven, you know, it's when you have to figure it out.
Sometimes the camps don't work out. You get the call of come get me right now. And then you're
like, what do I do? I'd plan this around a shoot, you know, and not everything worked out great
that summer, but it's a different kind of worry. But when they get older, you don't have a child
that's just learning how to walk, or you're in a place where there's sharp corners, where every
corner's not padded, you know, it's not, not everyone thinks about kids when you go travel
for you. You know what I mean? You have to bring that stuff.
Yeah, you do. Yeah. And speaking of motherhood, I hear that we have something,
something else in common. We can't resist helping animals.
Oh my God. Yeah.
Yep. Yeah. We recently had a dog and a kitten on the show that were adoptable with one eyeball.
Yep. I've had one of those too.
It was lovely. They couldn't stay in our house. We're not allowed to have cats yet.
And you're not allowed to, you're, you're, you're family HOA or the, the family, you know,
my husband, that's what I meant. The family HOA. Yeah.
Is he allergic?
Yes, but he's also allergic to dogs and we have two of those.
So I'm saying I was not a cat person until two adopted us. And I was like, Oh,
we're not keeping these cats. And now they, they've been shipped fixed. The entire garage
is their play pending. Come into one room of the house. You know, they, they are every, they're
awesome. Yeah. Yeah. They're, they're also assholes. They treat you.
Oh no dicks. They're like total dicks. Yeah. I love that. It's great. I'm so needy for their
attention when they give it. I'm like, it's like my toddler. It's so special. I know it's
literally my children. Yeah. Yeah. They're like, get away from me. Now is not the time. And I'm
like, just love me. I know. Just love on me. And when they stop holding your hand, like I reached
over, like the rule now is with Lou, I said, you got to hold my hand when no one else is around
and we're just walking. You got to hold it. And I said, I also have to make sure you know how to
hold a hand. You're not like limp, you know, like, it's like, it's like, they don't really
want to hold it anymore.
I can't.
Every so often my three-year-old will hit me with a, not right now. And I'm like,
but we're walking together.
But they want independence, especially at three.
That's all. She's, she's busy. She's living.
She's with the pearls, right?
Yeah.
All right. That's queen Elizabeth. That's not Betty White. Betty loved to hold hands.
Yeah.
No, she's every so often recently, she'll literally be like, not right now. And I'm like,
maybe now.
I love this kid. See, I love a distant child, an animal that
I really have to go after and beg for attention from.
Yeah.
I need to meet her.
Now, I do have a question for you about animals.
You. had a two-legged dog named ruby rubatella versace because she walked like she was on the runway
there was rubatella and there was poppy poppy was a three-legged my ride or die
they were together they were a pair and what types of dogs were they ruby was an applehead chihuahua
which oddly gets inbred a lot and they are born with these sort of thalidomide like flippers in
the front and they're thrown away she was found in a trash can so she was a part of a litter that
someone had chucked away and someone found her and i'm assuming she got a wheelchair no this
she walked her tail had this it was it was her kickstand and so she'd sit down she's like
her abs were ridiculous okay she could go up the stairs but then we would if we couldn't find ruby
we would just wait and we'd go ruby and we just have to call her we knew she was stuck on a stair
because she couldn't go down so she'd do a little peep and we'd go find rubes she was unbelievable
she she had to poop while she walked i mean you think you're having a bad day you try pooping
you try pulling a ruby you try pooping and we actually have a clip of ruby here versace yeah
um i purposely didn't watch this ahead of time look at her look at her
she's peeing here look at her peeing are you kidding
but watch her she finds her runway hold on a minute she finds her runway hold on wait
wait she's got to finish she's got she's peeing are you just backs it up back look at the tail
there's like a little muscle in there that's like a kickstand and then she backs it up and
hits the runway and rubatella look at her look at that runway walk oh
she's perfect and we got we did find a little little car she didn't like it she didn't like it
because she's perfectly able because she was she can do it she got two legs walk
that's her and the three-legger i mean people were just like it's like i don't know don't ask
the last thing i have for you is i like to uh ask for advice from our guests specifically moms i
love to ask okay do you have a go-to piece of mom advice for any moms out there or the best piece of
advice that you've ever received i think you know what moms know so much before anybody even has to
tell them something every kid is different every single kid i listen to everyone i ask advice i
look at how my friends do it you know but no one's kids are going to be like your kids
you know i don't think enough women trust their intuition and what they internally know about
their children and what's right for their kids i don't think they trust it enough they get the kids
in the school system they go oh well i guess this is where they're supposed to be and you go
my child doesn't feel right here trust it go find another school you know what i mean like i want my
kids to be i've made mistakes and i'm i'm be the first out of the gate yeah i thought i was doing
the right thing but you know what it's like if they're happy if they can self-soothe if they're
good people um you know i said trust trust what you got here i think there's something so valuable
and what we have is women that we don't trust and we don't trust them and we don't trust them
that we don't give enough credit to and i think we need to start being better to ourselves in that
department and really allowing that to to make the rules because we know shit we do inherently
by being a woman and a mom that female intuition that mother's intuition is the perfect segue into
making sure that you check out practical magic too because what more about female intuition and
your feelings yeah then checking that out we have being part of the coven come on to stop denying it
uh thank you so much make sure you get your tickets to see practical magic 2 on thursday
