People come to my shows that I know ain't my fans. They just come because Country Wayne, we know he up with the Facebook stuff. So when I went on interviews, I strategically talked about the money on purpose because I knew Instagram was going to come regardless. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. I'm just groupies, you saying? Well, Instagram and Facebook technically are connected. I know. Yeah. So in a weird way. Instagram, they look at people. But lifestyles, it's nothing new. It's like, that's why rappers talk about money. You're not wrong. I think about that all the time. I could present a crazier lifestyle, but that's not my personality to be like, I need to present a lifestyle. But I do think about the fact that people are into these very materialistic things. Oh, yeah. I don't want to ever be that person, but I know that I could get a response from this thing. Instagram, the world, man. It's the world, but it's the audience out there for everything, bro. It's like, you got to know your audience and whatever your audience is, man, whatever you. It's like marriage, for real. Love who love you. I think some people are like, I knew what audience loved me and I fed them. And I think most people want. I know who everybody want. They want the world. They want that other audience because people have this audience and still try to please that audience. Yep. And it's like, they want that one because it's louder. But to be honest, bro, Tyler Perry got richer than everybody. So your favorite actor, your favorite R&B singer, your favorite who? The reason why Tyler Perry is richer than everybody is because he's like, listen, this audience is overlooked. See, what it is, people don't try to please their grandmas. They don't try to make their grandmas proud and their uncles proud. They try to make dudes proud. They try to make the world proud. So what it is, this audience is not the most popular because nobody try to make grandma proud. So I knew this audience, the Mary J. Blige audience, I fed them. I was dancing. The songs. It was times that my people, my PR and my team was like, man, you need to act younger. I acted old on purpose. I had a beer and used to keep it raggedy and keep it what's-her-name to make people think I was 40 before I turned 40. I'm 38. But I did that on purpose because I knew this audience is the long game. That audience is going to switch up. I seen it happen. Look at all our favorite rappers who was hot back then. The audience got older. I feel like fans have a big part of that, too. I feel like sometimes fans set the standard of real success is when everybody is. When you doing shit on a commercial level, that's pleasing everybody. And then you miss your own audience doing that. Servicing them because everyone's moving the goalposts to make. It's like, oh yeah, you could do that, but you got to do it on a higher level. An artist to me that could sell out his venues to his core fan base and consistently all the time stay on. That's, bro, that's ultimate success to me. But if you're trying to. If you're not appreciating these shows because you want to be in the arena and you're doing things, you're making music that don't sound like you, now you done lost your core fan base. It's like, I think the fans play a big part of that, too, and the stand culture of not letting the artists just live in their own world, be them, and be successful with their audience. And I feel like a lot of people fall into that trap, bro. Yeah. That's why I'm like, you really got to figure out what you want to do. What is the goal? You really have to think, what do you want to do? We all share the same goal, man. Use your art to bless others, but man, you got to make some paperweight. I think people are scared to make money. It's a lot of people are scared. I'm like, bro, God is okay with you getting some money out of it. And I think what happened is, those big. When the internet came, the prefix of a word helps you with the definition. Internet, I-N-T, it's interception. It intercepted the power, so the industry doesn't have the power no more. So for the last 10 years, I think Tiffany Haddish was one of the last ones that was able to bubble off a movie, and it really I seen overnight. Her comedy club tickets went up, you know what I mean? But nowadays, it's who on the internet? Like, bro, a person could go and. Listen, Chuck could go in the biggest movie right now. If Drewski just dropped a hot video for seven days, he going to be. Look at Kassonette. The internet really got the game. It's just that it's hard to accept that the internet really intercepted the game like that. Instagram got your bitch. Yo, I know people selling tickets. I know people selling tickets right now like crazy. Stand-up comedy is still alive and well and thriving. I think social media's changed some. What were you going to say? Same thing. Social media's changed so much. I think in acting it's like. Brother, it's one of the biggest parts of it now. Do you think it's affected your work or no? I really don't know. I don't know. I know for me, I know for me, like, there's a way that I want my brand to look, and I at the same time, I also, like, don't really care to give too much of who I am on the internet. Yeah, how do you balance that? How do you balance, like, getting engaged? How do you, like, did you post that a week after, the day after, a month after? No, no, we got engaged last August, and then we let people know in October. But we talk about it, how we want it to look, how we want to do it. I feel like there's. I'm all about balance, right? It's just like you let people into your world, but at the same time, you gotta keep some shit sacred, especially as an actor, I feel like, personally. But that's just the standard I set for myself. But I think social media, sometimes I don't know if social media has helped me get a job or hurt me, you know what I'm saying? I really don't know, but I also don't try to put too much thought in it, because what happens is I start overthinking everything. Then I can't do what I want to do personally, because I'm like, well, what if, once you're worried about how people are looking at you to the point where you can't make a decision, that shit is like, come on, bro. That's the bar, bro. That's the bar, what you just said. You can't care, bro. You can't care. It's a new game. I don't care what people say. I never did, though. But I come from almost going to prison. So when you don't took penitentiary chances, you never care. It's just some comments. I don't care what this man, I swear to God, bro, when people be telling me they care about social media, I'm like, how you care about what somebody say? Lock your phone. Put it away. But no, that's the bar, though. I think everybody on social media, man, whatever talent you do got, it's the golden era of just, hey, man, showing it to them, whether it's acting or whatever, you know what I'm saying? Because the internet got the people, bro. I grew up in social media, meaning, like, I was on Twitter and Instagram at 15. But I was, like, in high school, going to school, and getting to school, going to library, and getting on Twitter. Because that's what I was doing at the time. And I think I grew a fan base just being a homie of homies and it all worked out, thankfully. But, like, even then, yeah, there was a moment in time where I didn't give a fuck what I put on the internet. not understand what a digital footprint was. you get to a certain age you look back at all the shit you said on the internet you're like maybe let's slow down a little bit and so now i think it's like i've learned to instead of like you know i used to like post on instagram like three times a week now i post like once a month just because i'm like i don't really have nothing to post i don't take no pictures or nothing i think that's another thing is like having stuff to post and a lot of people create content to post which to me isn't right because it's not real that's you creating something to post rather than just posting your life it's a brand instagram became that though i feel like early on it was just us posting pictures it was just like you could post anything you could just post a corner somebody got to a check be like she was today and nobody cared and you might get a whole bunch of likes on that then it became like only selling things like part of me hates being online because i'm like i don't want to always sell you things i'd rather just have a conversation with you and i don't think people care about just having conversations then you end up feeling like damn where do i even live in a place like that like this because i don't want to sell you shit i'm not the guy to sell you shit and then i just like oh i want to talk about this thing but you like hey that conversation is either so big that people don't want to have it or they're just like that this is simpler like you know i mean like yeah social media for me is just like i don't have fun on it i think i we used to have fun it used to be a fun thing i care so much about my brand when we like establishing a brand that like even as you watch like the evolution of these things i wouldn't do youtube early on just because i was i don't want to do anything on youtube it doesn't feel like people are transitioning from youtube to in tv and film and then that changed right you don't know the times end up changing you feel like oh shit this thing actually worked in this person's advantage so all of it is kind of like in real time i i commend you i tip my hat to you for staying so true to your brand for knowing that and having the vision because if you're young it is very easy to get blinded by what the world wants from you as well yeah yeah because they definitely want you to um to to this day if you're on social media you're never going to be looked at as a big big starboard until you get the big movie to some people so it's like i think i think people i think people battle with that and um but it's like man at the end of the day social media is the it's more stronger today than it was when i started yeah it's like when i first started it was like you man you still was the whoever the stars was were the stars but every year it kept going down down down and then social then the pandemic it just hit a shoe and then now it's like nah bro social media is almost a must because it's your leverage in business deals you know what i mean because if you if you walking over you walking there with a fan base yeah that deal different yeah and i and i understood it from a business point of view it was like okay because i don't feel like doing it i don't feel like but it helps you with everything you do outside of it like you you're on i had quit though i started back because of the pandemic i had got off of it because i don't feel like doing it either but that's why i built you quit still had 2 000 videos to post no no i was supposed to zero i started back because of the pandemic i just started posting that volume but what happened was i started realizing oh let me put other people on my platform so that's what i did i did if constant would have made duke dennis and all them post on his so what i did that's not me posting those videos i got my storyline in the morning then bread he poked bread turning about he turned in 293 videos this month mike turned in 212. delicia turned in about 60. uh so it's other people doing it because i knew if i stayed on social media too much you're going to fall off i mean it's very smart you can't stay hot you got to put other people on like luane when he did young money that was the perfect time because it kept him irrelevant forever yeah first if he would have kept rapping we love you but a sound so i i just took i learned from everybody man the social media just it's like a big playground for sure you know what i mean and you're going on tour when i'm what well i go are you on the first course no september i started doing um i'm going to some comedy clubs to work with some new jokes you know i just going to take off yeah she took off because what it is the algorithm going to show you who is going whoever lasts the longest it's going to choose you it knows what you are so the algorithm is not a trick it's just that you have to be good for real yeah that's all the algorithm is most people just ain't funny and they they think they funny because people don't told them they funny but time is going to tell every the most disrespected thing in the game is funny but a comedian ain't just funny they can trigger you yeah kate williams can make you you get an argument with him he can make you hate your life well he made that radio host say her life yeah oh man yeah it's not all the fingers through there that's it the algorithm she got on you go to lane bryant blame yeah he murdered her all you don't think you can hurt nobody feelings i grew up roasting i'm saying but you can't intentionally do that as a comedian because a lot of comedians be sensitive they say stuff then somebody say something back to them yeah like no you if you say it you got to be able to stand on it that's true so i think that's the problem with comedy now like the comedians are sensitive a lot of them they want to be just said but don't nobody say nothing bad i'm a comedian but now i'm a human yeah so it's like you got to be able to take what come with it because that's why i don't talk about people if you notice you you've never been to find a video of me talking about somebody because i'm like i talk about okay you can't take it huh because you can't take no i can take it oh i i don't know what that person going through today yeah okay i don't play with people like that okay okay gotcha i'm like bro i don't know what that person's going through and in the end of the day you know i'm already
