Klatt’s New Projected College Football Playoff Bracket & Championship Game Picks
31m 54s
The college football playoff bracket projection centers on a tightly contested Big Ten, where Indiana defeats Ohio State in the championship to become the top overall seed, despite Ohio State’s strong defense and quarterback uncertainty. The SEC remains deeply competitive, with Georgia securing the title through consistency, while Ole Miss and Texas have strong upsets potential. In the Big 12, Utah edges out BYU to win the championship. The ACC sees Miami advance without a conference loss, while SMU defeats Wake Forest in a key play-in game. Seeding is heavily influenced by the Miami-Notre Dame game, with Notre Dame winning to secure a four-seed and a crucial win over the top-ranked team. Ohio State lands the third seed, while Oregon State advances in the group of six via a dominant win over Boise State in a November showdown. The Heisman race is narrowly between Jeremiah Smith and Darian Mensa, with Smith favored due to his consistent performance and the critical impact of Miami’s game against Notre Dame—any strong performance by Mensa could shift the balance. Ultimately, the projection reflects deep conference parity, late-season volatility, and the pivotal role of non-conference matchups in shaping the playoff landscape.
Who's throwing the football to Jeremiah Smith? That's the biggest question I think actually in all of college football. Don't write off the wildcats. Brent Brennan and Noah Fafita. Noah Fafita is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the country. Who's yours? Who, who, who, who's yours? I love that cheer. (dramatic music) Hey, welcome into the program. It is the Joel Klatsch. I'm Joel Klatsch. This show is brought to you by Hilton. Hilton for the stay. Thank you for your support, as always. All right, we're going to do our final bracket projection. We told you about it on Monday. That's right. We've got rankings coming up next week. So the committee's going to start getting together. They're going to start giving us their ranking. So before we actually see that, the final projection here, this is my prediction of what the final CFP bracket is going to ultimately be. Let's dive into it. And remember how we do this each and every time. I'm going to go through each conference and give you a scenario of what I think the conference championship game might look like. And then we'll get into some of the at large picks. And then we'll be filling out a bracket here towards the end. Also, at the end of the program, I'm going to walk through the Heisman race where we sit right now and what it might look like during the course of the last month of the season. Let's start with the big 10. The big 10 is not quite as difficult as the SEC to start to parse out, but let's start with this. You got two unbeaten teams in the conference right now. You've got UCLA and conference play, at least. UCLA and Ohio State. So they're sitting atop the standings. You've got to start with Ohio State in this one because of the question marks at the quarterback position. We all are wondering what it's going to look like at quarterback for Ryan Day and the buck guys. We're going to find out this Saturday when they head to LA to face the USC Trojans. More on that game, by the way, in tomorrow's show, we got picks and previews coming straight at you tomorrow. We're going to try to do better than the 0 and 5 from a week ago. That's right, 0 and 5 a week ago. So hot start, hot start. This QB situation is the biggest question in college football. It's obviously going to impact this race towards the big 10 championship game. There's no other way to get around this now. What do we know about Ohio State? Well, we know that they've got any elite defense. And we know that that defense is actually playing better now than they were even early in the season. In fact, when I watch this team on film, the defensive line that I saw against Texas and the defensive line that I saw against Indiana is vastly different. It's much better. They destruct blocks at a much higher rate now than they did early in the season. So that unit is developing. And I do think that this is a team that can be carried by that defense. It is a year in which we don't have a great team in college football. So if you're going to tell me that one of the most talented teams in the country has any elite defense that can play right at the top of the sport, I've got to give them the benefit of the doubt. I just have to. So at this point, I'm going to give Ohio State the benefit of the doubt. They're going to figure something out on offense. And I think Ohio State gets themselves to Indianapolis and they're going to play for the big 10 championship. So that leaves the next spot. Is it going to be UCLA? Now, I don't think UCLA is going to run the table. I just think that that's too difficult. We see every single week that it is difficult for these 18 to 24 year olds and some older at this point. But you know what I'm saying? It's difficult for these young men to play at a consistent level. We see it week in and week out. So to expect UCLA to just run off into Indianapolis and get to the big 10 championship game, I think would be naive of us. I don't think that they run the table. In fact, I think they get tripped up. The most likely landing spot for a loss for UCLA, I actually think is at Michigan. And the reason is is because of Michigan's defense. Think about the game that we just witnessed on Saturday between Indiana and Michigan. Indiana, we know is a good football team. They couldn't do anything offensively. Now, you can also make a strong argument that that was due to the health of their quarterback. But if UCLA is not at least a legitimate passing team, that Michigan defense is going to be difficult for them. So let's just say sake of argument that they get tripped up in that game. They're on the road. It's November. It's an LA team coming out to face the Wolverines. Let's just say sake of argument, Michigan beats them. Well, Indiana would have a win over Michigan. Indiana, I think, is going to run the table. They don't have a very difficult schedule down the stretch. Now, they're going to face USC, but USC is going to have to play Ohio State first. USC is going to be going on the road in November all the way back east. We, you know, tell me if you've heard this before. Could be a cold weather game against the Hoosiers. I think Indiana runs the table. I think UCLA gets tripped up one time, which means those two teams would actually be in a tie break. And the tie break would be that game against Michigan. In this case, in this scenario, I think that Michigan were to trip up UCLA. Indiana got that win last week, which means Indiana is in the big 10 championship game. So here we have for the second straight year in Ohio State, Indiana matchup. And by the way, please, that would be amazing because the two previous games that we've seen from these teams have been amazing. Amazing games last year in the championship game. Well, we just witnessed two weeks ago with Marsh's foot being just out of bounds. That was an amazing game. I would love to see this. And, and we know how evenly matched these teams are. So if you tell me, like Kurt Signetti said earlier this week about Josh Hoover getting healthier and he expects him to be healthier as the season moves on. Well, if you take that at face value and you've got Julian saying not on the field for Ohio State, it's really hard for me to say that Ohio State's going to beat Indiana. In particular, with how evenly matched, I know that they are if they don't have saying on the field. So in this scenario, Indiana is going to win the big 10 championship over Ohio State. They will be a 12 in one team at that point. Ohio State will be at that point. What are they? 11 and two, I believe at that point. And Indiana is the big 10 champion. Let's move on to the SEC. This one's much more difficult. This conference in a good way, a good way. OK, so don't clip this off and I'm not anti SEC. This is a phenomenal conference. It's deep. There's great parity. It's hard to project what's going on from week to week. And we see that with Georgia losing to Auburn and then all of a sudden, LSU destroys Auburn. We see this weekend and weak out Florida and Missouri and all these different Ole Miss Texas. I think it's a mess in the most beautiful way because it's going to be very difficult to actually project what we see during the course of this last month. Everyone has at least one loss. And all but two teams have at least two losses so far. Those two teams are Georgia and Kentucky. So they're sitting on one. Everyone else sitting on at least two. So now you have to start to think to yourself at least in this type of setting. All right. Who do we anticipate going to three in the lost column? Just talking about lost column here. Who do we anticipate possibly staying at one? And who do we think is going to stay at two? All right, and so here's where I kind of land on this. I see Georgia as my SEC favorite. I think Georgia is the best team in the SEC. Partly because they're the most consistent. Even though they lost Auburn, I get it. I just don't anticipate them making some of those same mistakes like turnovers and penalties in these games down the stretch. I don't anticipate that. I don't anticipate it even this week against Florida. So I think Georgia is a team that even if they were to get tripped up, like let's say Ole Miss were to beat them. All right, let's even take a flyer and say, like, okay, Georgia lands on two Ls. With everything that's going on, I still think Georgia goes to Atlanta. So Georgia I'm going to put in Atlanta. And now we have to figure out, okay, who else is going to Atlanta now? Because this is where it's a real mess. Ole Miss only has one ranked opponent left on the schedule. It happens to be that Georgia game. Let's just say sake of argument that Ole Miss were to win that game. All right, let's just say sake of argument. Ole Miss, if they were to win out, would be 10 and two. And I get it. You could probably be yelling at the wherever you're listening or watching. Like, do we really anticipate anyone winning out? I don't know. I got to be honest with you. I really don't. But they have a quarterback that I trust that almost came back on the road against Texas in a game in which Texas showed that they're playing the best football that they had played all season long. And Ole Miss still almost came back and beat them. So do I trust Ole Miss? Yeah, I kind of do. So one game that we can kind of throw away is the Florida game, and I don't necessarily want to throw it away. But it was an emotional win over LSU. They go on the road and they lose to Florida. And it's like, "Nah, okay, I get it." Now they get beat by a Texas team who, as you know, if you listened on Monday, please subscribe, go back and listen on Monday. I think has the highest ceiling in all of college football. So it's not out of the question that Ole Miss can run the table here. So let's say they run the table. They're 10 and two. I also have Texas winning out. Why? I have no idea. I really don't. Other than the fact that I know that at their best, they can beat anybody in the country, I think that they might have unlocked something. That's why I talked about what I did this week when I talked about not having the arch-centric offense. If they get away from that and they run the ball and they play defense, Texas can win on the rest of their games. I know that would be a win at LSU and you might be thinking to yourself, "That's crazy. They're beating LSU on the road in your scenario." Yes, but only because LSU has to play Alabama the week before and let's say they were to beat Alabama, which gets Alabama another loss. Now they're coming off of an emotional win. What do we see the next week after an emotional win, a real letdown. So I think that's a prime spot for LSU to pick up their third loss and I think Texas were to be a ten and two at that point. So where does that all land us? Well, it lands us in this scenario. There would be a large tie and the standings in which Ole Miss essentially wins.
wins the tiebreaker. How I'm not quite sure I was reading like five levels deep in the SEC tiebreaker. I think I just don't see Alabama, LSU or Tennessee winning out. So I'm projecting Kentucky also to drop a couple of games. And I think Ole Miss is sitting there as a two loss and they get that nod and they go and play Georgia. And my scenario remember Ole Miss had knocked off Georgia in the regular season. Do we really think Georgia is going to lose a rematch to Ole Miss? I don't. So Georgia is going to be my SEC champion and Ole Miss would be a 10 in three non-champ, but runner up out of the SEC. Gosh, that was a lot. I know a lot to follow. I get it. Big 12. Another conference that's kind of a mess right now. A lot of teams in the mix as of right now is we're heading into Halloween weekend. Utah is obviously in the mix. They're undefeated. BYU still in the mix even after that loss to UCF. Arizona, don't write off the wildcats. Brennan and Noah Fafita. So watch out for them. Tech is still alive in this thing. Arizona and tech play this weekend. Pick some previews tomorrow. Oklahoma State is alive in this all with one or fewer losses every one of those teams. I've been pointing to that holy war on November 7th. It's kind of like the game, the big 12. I'm going to stand by that. I think it's the most critical game in the conference. Projecting that game is very difficult. You know that I love Utah, but I'm also a big believer in BYU, even after the loss again, emotional win over Notre Dame. They travel across the country the next week. They get some horrendous fish officiating, including that rough for the kick call that was garbage and they lose the game at UCF and it's like, okay, that's fine. Let's just say sake of argument. They've won the last couple of years that BYU were to beat Utah in Salt Lake. I don't see Texas Tech, Arizona and Oklahoma State running the table the rest of the way. You look at their schedules. There's areas for these teams to trip up. So now they all land with two losses. BYU and Utah would have one loss in conference play. And those teams would rematch in the big 12 championship game. That was as clean as I could make it. I'll take Utah to win the rematch. If BYU is going to win the regular season, you might be saying like, so BYU is going to win on the road in Salt Lake and yet Utah is going to win the neutral. I think it might be tough to beat a team twice, even though I think that's just one of the worst like coach speak things in all of our business. Probably true. I'll take the use to win the res rematch. Those two teams are super closely matched in a lot of ways. I can't see either of those teams winning both games. I think they're going to play a great game. November 7th. And I think they're going to rematch in the championship game. So I'm going to go Utah as the winner of the big 12. In the ACC, listen, put Miami in there. They're not losing a conference game. So who plays Miami? Well, if you look at the standings, you look how these things are going to play out. We basically are going to have a play-in game between Wake Forest and SMU. That game is at SMU and SMU is 11 and 0 at home since joining the ACC. Jennings has done a great job not turning the football over with they have not been a team that we focused on a lot. But remember now we covered them in the holiday bowl last year. When they when they play clean, they are very dangerous on the offensive side. Retlashley has done a remarkable job there. They win a lot of football games. And they've got an experience quarterback. And if you look at Wake schedule, it has not been a very difficult schedule. So SMU is a more tested team. I think that they are a better team. They have a more sustained era of success at least currently. Again, 11 in the home, 11 and 0 at home since joining the ACC. I think Wake finishes at 10 and two. But SMU wins that game and they play Miami and Miami beats SMU. So Miami is going to win the ACC and SMU would be sitting there and Wake would be sitting there. We'll get to that in the at large section. The only other thing that you've got to talk about. So now I've got my four power four champions. The only thing that you've got to talk about as we start to get to seeding is the Miami Notre Dame non conference game. That's going to make a huge or have a huge impact on what we see from a seeding perspective in this college football playoff. Because for example, if I don't think Miami is going to lose in the ACC and I think they're going to beat Notre Dame, then they would be the number one overall seed. I actually don't think that that's going to happen. Here's the here's the thing. And we see this in the NFL as well. When these teams that are warm weather teams have to travel late in the season, this would be a November night game in South Bend. It's not going to be pretty weather wise or at least we would anticipate because like it never it's even if it's a really nice day in South Bend. It's going to get down into the 30s, 40s. Miami's going to be up there and Notre Dame is going to have to win that game because they're going to talk themselves into what all of us are saying right now, which is they really need to win that game to avoid some sort of resume comparison at the end of the year because of their lack of quality wins. They don't have quality wins. And at this point, they would have picked up potentially a win over SMU, but they have to win this game. So because it's at Notre Dame, it's tough to beat teams in their home stadium and in particular really good teams. It's a cold game. I think Notre Dame wins the game. They finish 11 and 1. Miami finishes 12 and 1. All right. Let's get to the seeding here. You have to do that exercise. You can't just start throwing teams at a bracket. You've got to at least understand that we tried to think through all of this. We tried to look at the schedules and give you guys our our best bet of what a bracket could potentially look like. And I'll get to the group of six in a moment. So who's the number one seed in all of this scenario? Well, Miami will have lost. Georgia would have two losses. So I'm looking at the big 10 champion Indiana Hoosiers. Their only loss would be to Ohio State. They would have avenged that loss in the conference championship game. And in this scenario, if Ohio State were to win out, they would with a Miami lost to Notre Dame be the number one team in the country and the big 10 championship game, which means Indiana would for the second straight year be the number one overall seed in the college football playoff. They would be in there. The Hoosiers. I love that year. Indiana's number one. They're 12 and one. So who gets the second seed? Last year, Ohio State was number one. They got beat and just went to number two. I don't think that's the case this year because I think that they would honor the strength of schedule. Obviously, Ohio State has a ridiculous strength of schedule as well. This is just a projection. And like, I just, I think they would honor the SEC. I think the committee favors the SEC. You guys know this about me. Like I think that the entire narrative of the sport favors the SEC. So in this setting, I would think that Georgia would get the number two overall seed. And I'm not arguing against that. I'm just saying, like, that's kind of how I see it panning out. This is what we see. You know, the narrative would fit. They would have avenged their late season loss to Ole Miss. They beat Ole Miss there. They win the SEC and boom. Georgia would be number two. So now you get to the number three seed. I think my two and three seed would be basically interchangeable. I think it gets a little bit more tricky here at three. I think you've got to consider Notre Dame, although their schedule doesn't look great. You got to consider Miami, although they just lost to Notre Dame. So where are we landing? Well, again, Ohio State would be number one in the country playing the big 10 championship game in our scenario. And if they lose to Indiana, in particular, if it's a great game, like we've seen them play great games, I think they would go to number three right there. And by the way, you could probably interchange my Georgia to and Ohio State at three. But those two teams are two and three. I've got Ohio State as my number three overall seed. They would be 11 and two in this setting. OK, so Ohio State is in there at number three. So where are we going for number four? It'll come up eventually. There we go. Bang. Well done back there. Who gets number four? This is the last buy. It's important. This four seed is vital. Even though we've only seen one team in the history of this 12 team playoff, I know it's only two years, actually win a quarter final game after the long break. I'm going to give it to Notre Dame. They would be 11 and one on the back of their late season win over Miami, who by the way, will be the number one team in the country when they play in South Bend. So that would be a win over the number one team in the country. I think Notre Dame gets the four seed right there. Their resume is not going to be the strongest. I think they're going to pass the eye test. People love CJ car. I love CJ car. And and Notre Dame is going to get in there. Remember, in this case, they are in 11 and one. They beat Miami, who was number one in November. And they're the four seed. So now we go to the five seed. The first team with a home game non buy is then going to be Miami. That's why that game becomes so important. Obviously. So Miami there. I think their buy is on the line at Notre Dame. And I think Notre Dame's possible playoff life is on the line in that game at Notre Dame. In this scenario, I've got Notre Dame winning that game. They get the buy. Miami falls just outside. They're the fifth seed in the country right there. And they're back in the playoffs. They're 12 and one ACC champ at number six. Now I've got to go big 12 champ. And so Utah, who I had went in the big 12, they get slotted in here. They're 12 and one at this point. They have avenged their regular season loss to BYU. And they beat BYU in the champ game. And so there are 12 and one at this point. Big 12 champs. And they're the six seed. So who gets seven? Well, they could be higher than this. Because remember, they've got to win over Ohio State. They've got to win over Ole Miss. They would have a win over LSU. Texas. Texas is going to be my seven seed. They would be rewarded with a home game. You could make a strong argument that they would be higher than this if they were to win out. I could get on board with that. But again, if you just kind of play the scenario out, you can see where Miami would be way up there at number one, they would
get hurt all that much. So then no Notre Dame who beat them would have to be up there. Ohio State would have been number one in the conference championship game. They would only lose to Indiana and then Texas on the road all the way back. You can see where it gets a little bit dicey, but Texas as a 10 and 2 in my estimation. Again, high ceiling, maybe low floor. Are they consistent? We don't know. If they play well, run the football play defense. They win out and they're the seven seed in the playoffs. So who gets the eighth seed in the last home game, it would be Ole Miss. Remember Ole Miss I had in the SEC championship game. But the only reason they fall all the way to number eight is because they lost to Texas. Miami would have been number one. You see where we're going here, right? So Ole Miss, they get the buy or excuse me not the buy. They get the home game in the eighth seed, but they can't be ahead of Texas because Texas beat them. You could make the argument that they're like, well, you're penalizing them for playing the SEC championship game. It's one of the reasons why a lot of the coaches want the championship games to go away. But in my case, it's, it's a 10 and 3 Ole Miss big wins. LSU, Georgia would be a big one late in the year. The loss to Texas drops them below the long horns there there and number eight. Okay. So now we get into kind of the nitty-gritty. Who's making the playoff? Who's number nine and heading to Oxford? UCLA has only lost one game. Not a great resume, but 11 and one UCLA is number nine in the country and UCLA is going to the college football playoff. If that's the case, remember they avoided Ohio State. They avoided Indiana this year and they had Oregon. So everyone thought like, yeah, well, they got the Oregon win in Eugene, but that looks worse every single week with the way that Oregon has played. That's losing value every single week. So in 11 and one, I think they fall below all of those teams, even a three loss Ole Miss team because Ole Miss would have been in the SEC championship game. You see where I'm going with that, but UCLA is in. They've got to go on the road and they head down to Oxford and they face Ole Miss. So number 10. Now we're really getting to the nitty-gritty. This is where two weeks ago that matchup BYU had with Notre Dame is going to pay off because now BYU, who has the loss to UCF and my scenario has a win over Utah already in has a win over Notre Dame, but not a champ. I think the big 12 gets a second team in here. This is where I think BYU falls. They're 11 and 2 as a runner up in that conference that game against Notre Dame is going to be massive and they head down to Austin to face the Texas Longhorn. So BYU is in. It's the second big 12 team. They're in at number 10 and here we go. Hey, college football season is in full swing. And this is the time of year when you start looking ahead at the games that you really want to go see in person. Once you pick the matchup, the next step is finding the best deal on tickets. So you can use it later when you go into purchase, just a huge shout out to SeatGeek. As we know, the group of six is going to be 12. So this is it. This is the last spot. This is it. The 11 seed. Where are we out with the 11 seed? It's crazy. It is crazy. You start playing all this out and you've got teams like SMU sitting there with probably three losses. You've got Wake Forest, maybe with two losses. You never know. Maybe maybe Wisconsin is sitting there with two losses. I mean, it could get crazy. I would be sitting there with two losses. But you also have a bunch of nine and three teams in the SEC. I'm looking at four candidates. And I'm going to come around here. I know that I've thrown the throne cold water on this scenario that the nine and three team is going to make the playoff. But I actually see the path. And this is the path. The path is is that you've got four candidates out of the SEC, all nine and three. And those candidates are LSU, Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee. And I think one of those gets the last spot. So here's how it's going to play out. Alabama will have a win over Kentucky, but losses to LSU and Tennessee. Okay. Because remember, I've got LSU beating Alabama. And because of that big win, they're too high. They get beat by Texas. So I played this whole thing out LSU will have beaten Alabama and Tennessee in November. Hang on to that. I've got Kentucky with two losses in November. So I've got one team arrow pointed straight up, one team arrow pointed down. As we know, timing of losses makes an impact. I think LSU's arrow is pointing up. They will have the win over, Alabama. They will have the win over Tennessee, both of those in November. And I think the Texas loss. There's a pass on that because all the sudden, Texas is turned into something that we've never seen them be. And I get that. Trust me. I struggle with that. LSU gets the 11 seat LSU, nine and three Lane Kiffin goes to the playoff and they are the 11 seed in the playoff. Now we've got to figure out the group of six. And this is also interesting. And I think that this is a fascinating deal. At this point in the year, it really looks like it's coming down to three teams, Boise State, who's already in the AP Top 25 and then two teams that are right on the outside and in the top 30 right now, according to the voters, but not ranked. And that's New Mexico, what Jason Eck is their head coach. And it's Oregon state with that incredible passing offense that they have. Here's how I think this plays out. Boise and Oregon State are playing each other in the regular season. Oregon state has to go to Boise in November. The winner of that game is going to have a significant advantage over New Mexico that just doesn't have the schedule that's going to really entice people to jump in there. And I think the committee is really going to look at strength of schedule this year. It's been a point of emphasis in terms of narrative throughout the last couple of years. And we're seeing this, this conversation that's been started that we all got to, we got to see who they play, who they beat, things of that nature. I know that they went and played Oklahoma and they played them tough. They really did. And I liked New Mexico a lot. But when you got Boise and Oregon state playing each other and then you look at the matchup between Boise and Oregon state and there is a glaring matchup advantage for one of these teams. And that is the fact that Oregon state can throw the football as well as anybody in the country, anybody in the country. They are leading college football throwing the ball with Braden Atkinson and Jesse LaGree versus Boise says past defense, which is wait for it a hundred and 17th in the country. So even though Boise is hosting that game, I think Oregon state beat some in Boise. They rematch in the pack 12 championship game, which then would be in Corvalus. And you're not going to beat them in a wild atmosphere. I've been there. That's a great fan base Oregon state. They would be, they would be locked and ready to go for that one in a pack 12 championship game on a Friday night. Oregon state beats Boise twice beeps to the playoffs. Let's go. I want Atkinson. I want Jesse LaGree in there. I think that would be amazing. I think New Mexico gets boxed out. And I think Oregon state takes that passing game down to South Booch and they face Miami in the first round. There's your playoff, everybody. There's your playoff. Number one, Indiana, two Georgia, three Ohio state, four Notre Dame, five Miami, six Utah, seven Texas, eight Ole Miss, nine. You see. 10 BYU, LSU, nine and three gets in Oregon state group of six. Sign me up. I want to see it. All right. Let's get to our weekend check in, check in, presented by Hilton. When you need a winning team on and off the field, it matters where you stay. And I want to check in on the Heisman race. Where do we stand right now in the Heisman race? I think if you look at the odds and if you just understand anything about the sport, it's boiling down to three players. Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State, Darian Minsk of the quarterback of Miami and Malachi, Tony, the wide receiver at Miami. So two players off the same team and the guy who is widely considered and has been since last year, the best player in the sport and Jeremiah Smith. Here's how I think that this is going is that the biggest question mark in this whole race is the quarterback for Ohio State. Is Smith going to be able to put up numbers down the stretch? I think it goes one of two ways and this is probably pretty obvious. It goes poorly. They can't throw the football and then voters just have to remember that Jeremiah Smith is the best player in college football or they lean in and he becomes the reason why a backup quarterback is having success and they get him the ball and creative ways and he's carrying the offense to an undefeated finish into the big 10 championship game playing Indiana. One of two ways that goes. I don't know which way that's going to go, but here's what I do know. The game that Miami plays at Notre Dame is going to be vital. I believe that this Heisman trophy is going to be one or loss for Jeremiah Smith, not with anything he does, but by the way that Darian Mensa plays in South Bend against the Irish. I don't think it's going to be Malachi Tony because I don't think any voter in their right mind is going to just say like, oh, this is a production award. I'm going to vote for Malachi Tony over Jeremiah Smith.
another wide receiver is not going to win the Heisman trophy when Smith is also on the ballot. I just don't think that's going to happen. This comes down to Darian Minza and Jeremiah Smith. And Darian Minza has to beat Notre Dame in my scenario that I just laid out. I don't think Miami is going to do that. Not in a night game in November and South Bend with a team from South Beach going all the way up up north. So I actually think Jeremiah Smith is still going to win this thing. And by the way, you've got to understand you can win the Heisman trophy just because everybody puts you second. Now, you don't, you can't just lose every ballot to the same guy going number one. But let's say Tony and Minza start splitting votes at number one, even if they were to win. And everyone's like, well, it's Minza and they're like, no, no, no, it's Tony. Well, here's the thing. Those two guys will not be one and two on everybody's ballot. The number Jeremiah Smith will be either number one or number two on every ballot in America. And if they're not, the Heisman should probably just take away your vote. I know that's, that sounds crazy, but that's, it's not crazy in my own mind. I might be a little insane, but he's going to be one or two. And so I think, I think Smith is still going to win this thing unless, unless Minza goes up there, throws for 400 yards, they beat Notre Dame. And it's clear that it's Minza and it's not really, you know, Tony and Minza gets a ton of first place votes. That's the way that this is boiling down. That's how I see the Heisman race at this point as we barrel into November. Okay, picks and previews coming up tomorrow. Remember to subscribe to the show if you would follow us on social media.
