Katie Austin Is Pregnant!! First Trimester Struggles, Body Changes & Preparing for Motherhood
47m 52s
Katie Austin, a former Sports Illustrated model and creator of the fitness app Your Daily, shares her journey into motherhood, detailing her pregnancy announcement at 15 weeks and the emotionally challenging first trimester marked by extreme nausea, fatigue, and mental exhaustion. As a high-energy planner, she reveals how pregnancy disrupted her routines and forced a profound shift toward self-compassion and slow living. She emphasizes the importance of reproductive health education, personal preparedness for conception, and emotional resilience during pregnancy. Katie discusses societal pressures around parenting and social media, noting concerns about online judgment, while advocating for authenticity and personal boundaries. The episode highlights her evolving identity—from athlete to mother—while addressing questions about parenting, social media presence, and future family life. Product spotlights include BJ’s Wholesale Club for savings, Premier Protein for daily nutrition, BetterHelp for mental wellness, and Viore for comfortable clothing. Ultimately, the conversation celebrates realness, self-acceptance, and the transformative power of motherhood in redefining one’s life purpose.

The following podcast is a Dear Media production.
Welcome to RealPod.
It's your host, Victoria Garrick-Brown,
and this is the podcast where we hold nothing back.
Oh, so we're getting deep, huh?
I really cried for 12 days straight.
Why do I want to be perfect?
There's nothing in my life that is perfect.
Every week, I'll bring you honest, unfiltered,
and eye-opening conversations
to help uncover the real,
real in all of us.
I crave the type of content that you're talking about.
I actually felt insecure.
Oh my God, I'm not going to cry.
Let me just unload everything.
New episodes every Wednesday.
Leave those filters at the door
because it's time to get real.
Hello, everybody, and welcome back to RealPod.
Today's episode is such a special episode
and such a full circle moment for RealPod
because back again,
it's time to get real.
It's time to get real.
Our second guest ever,
episode two of RealPod six years ago,
Katie Austin.
She is a sports illustrated model.
She has been in the magazine five times
and she is the founder, creator,
and face of the popular app, Your Daily,
where she does her workouts.
She shares her nutritious recipes
and so much more.
Her app has been live for seven years now.
She's such a stud.
We met way back when at USC
when we were both athletes.
And so now to be together,
today to talk about
and announce her pregnancy
was just so surreal and so special.
Katie announced her pregnancy
just a few days ago
on her Instagram at Katie Austin.
And today we are going to talk
all things pregnancy.
How long was she trying?
How long did it take for them to conceive?
Thoughts on parenting?
What her first trimester was like?
If she's going to put her kids online
and so much more.
If you have baby fever,
you are pregnant
or you're thinking about kids,
you are going to love this episode.
So without further ado,
let's dive in with new mama-to-be Katie Austin.
I just got these pants yesterday.
I didn't realize they like are so see-through too.
Like I cannot zip any jeans.
Like jeans, none of my jeans fit.
Get some like elastic,
like or the rag and bone.
I got a lot of those Aritzia elastic pants.
Oh yeah, love.
But they don't go with everything.
Like it's like, you know,
like last night I had to wear these like elastic shorts.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's just,
and you didn't feel,
yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's a whole thing.
It's like a whole thing.
It's like the awkward phase too,
where I have like a small belly,
but like when you have a full belly,
a pregnancy belly,
you can rock, rock, pop.
Wait, this is good.
We need this on the air.
Sorry.
You can do whatever you want though.
Okay.
As you guys have been hearing,
Katie's pregnant.
Yay!
As you all have been hearing.
Yay!
I'm so happy for you.
Thank you.
I literally was shooketh last night
is when I found out.
I know.
And you're how far along?
I am 15 weeks.
Oh, yay.
That's amazing.
How was your first trimester?
Horrible.
Thank you so much for asking.
Really?
It was literally,
honestly like really brutal.
Really, really, really brutal.
What symptoms did you have?
Nausea.
Pretty much every symptom possible.
Like I literally even got like hypothyroidism.
Like everything.
No.
I feel like just,
I never thought I'd be the type of person
that has all these symptoms.
I've always been a very high energy hustler,
go get her,
wake up at 6 a.m.
Let's seize the day type girl.
Yeah.
And when I tell you,
I could barely get out of bed every day.
I was just like surviving.
Wow.
And all I kept thinking about was
imagine if I had like one or two other kids.
Like how do you do that?
I'm like more power to the moms
that like have multiple kids
and get sick during the first trimester
or all pregnancy.
So it was really rough.
And I'm very, very happy
to be in the second trimester
because I can already feel a difference.
I'm like still really tired.
Still like out of breath.
Yeah.
Still, you know,
some nausea.
Like whenever I brush my teeth,
I gag.
No.
But it's nothing like the first trimester.
I will take this any day.
I feel like people say
some part of it is hard,
whether it's a first trimester,
final trimester,
delivery,
postpartum,
like something's not going to,
something's going to be
a little bit of a challenge
and that's okay.
And hopefully yours was the first trimester.
Knock on wood.
Totally.
I've always been actually extra prepared
for labor and postpartum.
For some reason in my mind,
postpartum has always been like,
okay, that's going to be really hard for me.
There's going to be an influx of hormones
and my body's going to be changing so much.
I never thought,
like I never knew,
and this maybe is like really naive of me.
I never knew how bad
the first trimester was going to be
because that has taken so much more
of a toll on my mental health
than I ever imagined.
It's like I can sit here and say like,
yes, I was really nauseous.
Oh, I felt like I had the flu every day.
But honestly,
being sick for almost three months
takes a toll on your mental health.
How did you even do work?
Because you've been hiding to hide it.
I really, really didn't.
Like I barely posted on my stories.
I've barely posted.
I've done other things where I'm like,
okay,
I need to get up
and actually do something today.
And I batched maybe like
two or three videos
and then I would literally bed rot
for like three, four days.
And my friends are like,
are you okay?
You need to get out of the house.
But the hardest thing is
it was really hard for me
to get out of the house.
And I think it was a mix of,
of course,
being extremely sick,
but also your hormones changed so much.
The first trimester,
I had to really get used to
the difference of my chemical imbalance
in my head,
if that makes sense.
I'm now used to it.
Like I know what to do.
Like, okay,
I'm not setting my alarm
for any earlier than 7 a.m.
I wake up at 8 a.m.
these days,
which is so late to me.
That's crazy.
It hits me every day.
That's literally so late to me.
It's insane.
But I'm not giving myself
as much pressure.
Yeah.
And I really took that pressure off.
But that took a long time
to really understand what to do.
Yeah, you need to be gentle
with yourself
and take care of yourself.
You're literally creating life.
You are creating a human.
I know.
Like you need to take it easy.
Every time I go to the,
every time I like
feel really bad about myself,
I'm like, oh my gosh,
I should be doing this.
Even like sometimes
I'm canceling a Zoom call
because I truly cannot
even think that day.
Not anymore as much,
but my first trimester,
the people who work with me,
like I felt just so flaky
to be fully honest with you.
Yeah.
With my friends,
like I'd cancel a dinner.
Yeah.
And just really be hard on myself.
That was the hardest thing.
And the really,
and we talked about this too
and before,
like the loss of control over that
because I'm such a planner
at its core.
Like I plan everything.
I'm even like planning
when I'm going to have
my next kid
and how this is going to go.
And it's like,
okay, so I'm going to give myself
till this X date
and January 1st,
2027,
I'm going to start work again
and be off maternity leave.
And it's like,
wait, oh my God,
what if A,
you feel amazing
one month postpartum?
What if B,
you don't feel amazing
for two years postpartum?
Like,
like I can't stop planning
and that's really hard for me.
But maybe that's really healing for you
and it's something that
people always say
you learn so much from your kids
and like you're learning this lesson
from your firstborn,
you know,
of like slowing down
and you have,
Katie,
you have accomplished so much
even when I was just
prepping for this,
which I don't even need to
because I know you so well.
But like,
looking at your Instagram bio
and I think you said like,
was it like five times
Sports Illustrated
or seven?
I forget the number.
And I'm like,
I remember when you got
your first SI feature
and it's like,
think about how much
you've accomplished.
You were the second episode
of Real Pod.
It's been crazy.
Which is how many years ago?
Six?
Yeah, six years ago.
And now it's like
you have this beautiful home.
You've accomplished
so many things
that were like bucket list
and then like times three.
I know,
but you get it.
We always want,
especially in this industry
and I think it's also
it helps drive you
because we're such
motivated people.
Right.
And it's not like
I always want more,
more, more, better, faster.
It's more like,
you know,
I can still be satisfied
in this exact moment
and still want more.
But something that's
really shifted
is my anxiety.
I have like no work anxiety.
For some reason,
the moment I found out
I was pregnant,
all my anxiety shifted
to my baby.
Like all of it.
And so it was like
something that needs
to be due on Friday.
I'm not kidding you.
I'll look at it
and be like,
yeah, sure it does.
Whatever.
And that's just so unlike me.
You know,
like my anxiety is now like,
I keep almost saying the gender.
Like, is it okay?
Is it okay?
Is the baby okay?
Like, even wearing a seatbelt,
I'm like,
is the baby okay?
Right.
You know,
so that's all my anxiety.
Even like in an Uber,
I'm so scared these days.
It's insane.
Yeah.
And I feel like
there's so many of those changes
and I can only imagine,
especially when it's your first,
you're like learning so many things.
My friend's pregnant right now
and she was telling me
so many things I can't eat,
so many things I can't consume
and you just don't even
know.
So you're doing your best
to learn as you go.
Were you guys trying?
So, yes.
And I want to be really
conscious of this conversation
because I know it's a really
sensitive topic.
And if you want to turn this
off right now,
I totally understand.
I'm also
one of the types that
if I'm posting too much
pregnancy content,
you can feel free to mute me,
feel free to unfollow me
because I understand like
trying to conceive is
a very sensitive topic
and it can be really hard.
A lot of my friends
have struggled with it.
Yes, we were trying,
but it really just happened.
which we didn't realize it would happen.
And I know that sounds freaking insane.
Like just sooner than you thought.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
We had sex like one time, yeah.
No, you pulled the goalie once.
That's iconic though.
And that's your story.
And that's, yeah, totally.
And I know I want to be really careful
with this conversation.
But the one thing that we really did do
trying to conceive is
we were really prepared going into it.
We got rid of a lot of things six months prior.
And, you know, in our daily life
that like wasn't serving us,
like I'll just be so blunt on here,
but we stopped smoking weed
and did things like that,
like started drinking less alcohol
just to really prepare both of our bodies.
Both of us.
They say that a lot now, the sperm help.
Especially if your husband smokes weed.
Weed for a male is like way more,
like definitely, definitely, definitely give up weed.
And alcohol is a huge thing.
So try to cut back on the alcohol for sure.
And just like, you know, prepping my body in ways
like I knew I was going to try to get pregnant soon.
So we got our blood tested.
We did like the Pranovo scan.
Well, we did all that.
And we also got our genetics tested.
So we were like highly prepared if it happened super fast.
But for some reason in my head,
I thought I was getting like really low.
I don't know why I was like this year.
I was like by the end of this year of the end of 2026,
I'll get pregnant.
Yeah.
And like I really track my ovulation on an app,
but I never did like the strips or anything.
It was just kind of guesswork, if that makes sense.
So when you were tracking your ovulation,
like did you look at waking temperature or any of that?
No, cervical fluid, none of that.
Oh, no, no, no, no.
I don't even.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
But I would have gotten there, of course.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But like we were just starting the process of trying
and we got pregnant in the beginning of December.
And our goal was to start trying in January.
Okay, fun.
Yeah.
Thank you.
That's so amazing.
Thank you.
Yeah, I'm reading.
I've been open about this online,
but like starting to warm up to family planning,
definitely like catching baby fever.
Like not haven't started yet,
but there's a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility
that I've been reading,
which is super informative.
And it teaches you so much about your body,
whether a woman is trying or not.
It's just about knowing when you're ovulating
and when you're fertile and you're not fertile
is helpful just for your own hormones,
your own knowledge.
If you don't want a kid, great.
Then you know you're not fertile in this window
and you can not worry so much about having sex.
Anyways, that's why I know so much.
Aubrey and I call ourselves little OBGYNs.
No, you really do.
I'm educated now on our cycles and everything like that.
But I feel like when I was 18 to 25,
I had absolutely,
absolutely no idea.
Yeah.
I was just on birth control, right?
We were masking everything,
masking ovulation, everything.
And then you get off birth control.
They're like, oh yeah, just like use a condom.
And then it's just like,
wait, there's a time of the month you can get pregnant.
Like, I don't know why that just wasn't as educated to,
even my friends, we talk about that a lot too.
That's the problem though with all women.
Like we were literally told in middle school,
hey, guess what?
You're going to bleed and use a pad or a tampon
and then you'll stop bleeding.
Yeah.
Bye bell rings.
Like they didn't get into all of our phases
and what they mean and how we should treat our bodies.
And it's so sad that they didn't.
And so now we have to come across it,
realize it, take the liberty to then educate ourselves.
But it is so powerful when we do educate ourselves
because then we can advocate for ourselves
when we go in to see our doctors
and just also know what's going on with our bodies.
And wait, how old are you?
32.
So that's amazing though.
I think that you should be proud of your story
because people freak out.
They're like, once I turn 30, I can't get pregnant.
And you're 32 first try.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And that is also, I know it's a really sensitive topic,
but at 32, I was really nervous.
I'm not going to lie because 32, you know,
I'm not saying I'm old by any means.
My mom had me at like almost 38.
There's a biological clock.
But there is a biological clock.
Exactly.
Thank you.
So it was a little bit scarier
and that's why we decided to try so early on, you know.
So I think the pressure that I faced for sure
played a factor into it.
Yeah.
This episode is brought to you by Premier Protein
and I love it.
Premier Protein so much.
I feel like I don't go a day anymore
without having a protein drink
because it is just so hard to ensure
that we're getting enough protein
and the amount that we need every single day.
And sometimes I'm super busy.
I just like can't think about that in every single meal
and I don't like to hyper fixate on it, right?
So that's where Premier Protein is the solution.
It's easy and delicious
and a protein packed way to power your day.
There's so many incredible flavors.
I like to keep mine.

that's going to give you that boost,
it's also giving you 20 to 30 grams of protein,
which is incredible.
There's also flavors like strawberry, cinnamon roll,
peaches and cream, caramel or cookie dough.
So they have a flavor for every vibe.
I also love the caramel one
and of course the classic chocolate.
But there's also a flavor for every flavor.

Oh my gosh, and how does Lane feel?
Lane is literally the happiest guy in the entire world.
You know, he's one of the kids since the day we got married.
So he is very, very, very, very, very stoked.
He's changed his entire demeanor.
He's like so happy every day.
It's like euphoric.
That is so cute.
He's really excited.
He wants to be a dad so bad.
Yeah.
And is he joining you in abstaining from like alcohol and weed during pregnancy?
Or was he like, I did my job.
So I'm actually, I thought I was going to be like this person,
this wife that was like, if I can't drink, you can't drink type.
You know what I mean?
Like, because I love to drink.
I love my good margaritas.
I love a good glass of wine.
And I thought I was going to be the wife that was like, please don't drink.
I'm actually a weirdo and I'm encouraging him to drink.
I'm like, please, why are you ordering a beer at dinner?
Why are you not?
You're so lame.
Order a margarita.
We literally had dinner on Sunday at a Mexican restaurant.
I was like, should I order a margarita?
I was like, why wouldn't you?
Yeah.
Like, why wouldn't you?
You're actually offended he's not drinking.
I'm offended that you could drink that you wouldn't.
So I don't know why.
That is so funny.
And have you had a lot of people, you have friends who have had babies recently.
Yes.
Like, are you feeling overwhelmed with people telling you, oh, here's do this, do that?
Like, how have you been navigating all that?
I think opening up on social media is always tough.
With my friends, I don't feel that way because I,
honestly, will take all my friends' advice, right?
And all my friends are great moms.
And, you know, I would love their advice.
And I actually really need it because I do feel a little bit still uneducated.
Like, there's so much to learn.
But online, I am kind of scared of it.
In this moment in time when I haven't announced, I announce in a couple of days,
I am a little nervous for that influx.
How'd you decide that this Sunday is the day you're going to announce?
Well, I feel like this is a whole nother thing.
I am getting bigger.
I've already gained 10 pounds.
and I wear a sports bra every single day
basically in my workout videos
and I'm showing up.
I'm not showing up on my app
the way that I want to
because I am really self-conscious right now
because people don't know I'm pregnant.
I mean, I'm wearing like a crop top
and like being a fitness professional
and like, you know, like I could tell
like if I saw you,
like I get what you're saying.
You're like, and you, your body
and being literally your belly button
is out every day.
Every freaking day.
You can't hide it like someone else
could with a sweatshirt or a sweater.
And it's a really insecure feeling, right?
Because I got a DM actually last week
that was like the fact that someone
follows a fitness professional
who has a belly is insane.
And I'm like, well, first off,
that's a crazy thing to say, number one.
Number two, I'm pregnant
and obviously didn't say that.
But I just feel like I would love, love, love
to keep it a secret for as long as possible
in my heart because the peace that I've had
without anybody knowing,
like literally I told most of my friends yesterday
after my, you know, really important appointment.
So I just felt like this peace,
this like. no one knowing type of,
I don't know, so much less anxiety
when you just hold it in.
Yeah, well, so much of everything is public.
Yeah.
And so I think a lot of me telling the public
stems from my own insecurity
and me just being able to show up at work.
The moment I feel like I'm going to release that
on social media is going to be like this relief
where it's like, wow,
I can actually film workout videos
and like not be self-conscious of me
like really gaining weight
and looking pregnant in which I am.
And so I just feel like that is becoming a point
like 15.
I'm really showing now in my opinion.
So I can't really hide it anymore.
Yeah.
Well, I'm sure everyone is going to be
so happy for you, so supportive.
I honestly think that's what I see all the time.
Like with especially female content creators,
people are just so happy.
Like, I don't know why we just get so happy
for women who are. I know, which is sweet.
But have you seen like the other side of TikTok right now
where people are unfollowing pregnant people?
Oh, I did see a video that was like
wedding or pregnancy unfollow.
But then I saw some clapbacks.
I've only seen the clapbacks.
Okay, so maybe on the other side,
but like sweet Whitney Simmons,
who is a fitness influencer,
and then Madeline White.
Whitney Simmons barely talks about her pregnancy too.
I know.
She's still grinding on her abs.
She's still lifting weights.
Exactly.
I'm so confused.
I'm so confused.
And like, she could outlift you, babe.
Yeah, no, fully.
She currently outlifts me.
Right.
So I'm really confused on that.
And I've seen so many takes on it.
And I actually agree with someone.
If you don't align with her content anymore,
it's totally okay.
Because if you're in a phase of your life
where say you're trying to conceive
or like you never want kids
and like that kid content,
that I'm probably going to post one day
is just never going to align with you.
Totally valid.
But at the same time, it's like,
why are we getting so mad?
And I think that's so important.
And I was thinking about this today
in a different aspect.
But like, if a content creator
is no longer relatable, inspiring,
or helpful for you,
unfollow and find someone who is.
But it's not on them to stay the exact same
to cater to your life.
Yes.
And I felt that way.
I felt like, you know,
even recently I did a speaking engagement
to young female athletes.
And I was so grateful that I got to do that.
And I love to do that.
And then a little bit of part of me is self-conscious.
Like, well, if they enjoy this talk
and they go to my Instagram,
they're not going to find many sporty things right now
because I don't really do that as much anymore.
And I'm like, oh, maybe should I post something
athletic related?
And then I'm like, but no, I can be me.
I can still show up and talk about this thing.
Right.
You know, so we also have to give ourselves grace
that there might be people who they don't know.
They don't want to subscribe to the pregnancy content,
but you might get a thousand more people
who want a pregnancy fitness creator.
True.
At the end of the day, our platforms are our platforms
and we can kind of put out, you know, what we want.
But I think it goes also back to just like
identity crisis at the end too for me.
I don't know.
Like for some reason you said like athletics and sports.
Both of us have had these like identities to a sport
and then you're like changing it.
Like for me, my identity was like lacrosse
and then it was like sports hosting
and it's like fitness and it's like recipes.
And like, I never want to stray to like,
imagine.
If I do a beauty campaign,
is that going to be like really, really weird for my audience?
And it's like, no, we don't have to always fit in like one box,
especially for ourselves, but for our audience too.
Yeah.
I've finally like come to peace with that,
like at age 30, you know, it takes a while.
Totally.
And we can do it all.
Like I keep telling myself, we can be all things.
Totally.
I would be inspired if an athlete I looked up to
like walked on stage in a heel and like a pink outfit
and was both.
Like she's Barbie and she's an all-star.
100%.
Yes.
Have you guys thought about parenting?
Is that something you're already thinking about
or you've had conversations about?
Oh my gosh, yes.
And it's really scary to think about it
because I don't think that a book can teach you everything.
I don't think even social media can
because you never know what your kid is going to be like.
You never know what your baby's going to be like.
And so we can probably think about it and educate ourselves.
Of course, we're really like reading up parenting books
and all that jazz, you know what I mean?
And I'm on parenting TikTok and all the things.
But at the same time,
I don't think you can really prepare for it
unless you're in it
because you don't know what your kid is like.
But yes, we definitely have the roles
that Lane and I are going to play for sure.
Lane is going to be strict.
You think?
Yes.
I'm not.
No, yeah, he's going to be parenting both of you.
They're going to go to mom
if they ever need to go to a party or anything.
I'm going to be like the mom.
I'm going to probably be a lot like my mom
where it's like, okay, if you guys want to do anything.
And you want to drink a little,
I bet you have it in the house.
It's in the house.
Like that's me.
And Lane's like, they're not drinking until they're 21.
I'm like, well, that's just unrealistic.
Yeah.
They're not having social media until they're 18.
I'm like, babe, they're going to have social media.
Unfortunately, they'll hide it from us.
If they, you know what I mean?
So figuring out that is going to be tough.
And also the AI,
what is teaching and learning going to look like
for our children with AI?
We can't even think so far as school
and what our school systems are going to be like
because in three, four years,
it might be fully different.
Right.
I know that is wild.
And it's a little sad
because like I loved my childhood experience
and not being on social and all.
And it's different for them.
Are you planning to put your kids on social media?
Good question.
I have no idea.
I don't know.
I go back and forth on it all the time.
Right.
I don't know.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I respect that.
You know, it's like you said,
you can't really know until you have that kid
and you see how you feel.
I think it's so interesting because like,
I, oh, Jesse James Decker is such a fun follow.
Yes.
And I think she does a cool job of like,
I know what her kids look like
and she posts them on social media.
She posts her kids,
but I would never say she like exploits her kid.
Like it's so like genuine.
Totally.
The way that I think she does it.
And then there are accounts where like,
you'll never see the kid ever.
Then there are the accounts
where the emoji is on the face.
But then there are the accounts
where like the kid becomes the moneymaker
without even realizing it.
That's never going to be.
Yeah.
I don't love that.
No offense.
No, I think there should be offense.
I think when people exploit their kids,
I want to offend you.
I think it's wrong.
It's really wrong.
I don't like that.
I also think that showing your kids a little bit,
by the way,
I'm saying this,
and I have no idea
because I don't have kids yet.
Showing your kids a little bit might be better.
And that's where I'm leaning
because one of my friends
who is in the public eye,
I will say,
she said that the less she shows her kid,
the crazier her fans become to see the kid's face.
Like, so when she never showed her child,
the fans actually became crazy obsessed
with being able to see the child.
So when they were out in public
taking photos of the kid's face,
and stuff like that could happen.
I saw that take and I was like,
that I can understand that for sure.
Yeah.
I even like relate to it in the sense of I'm like,
oh, I would love to know what like the Bieber kid looks like.
And you know, like, I'm like,
I want to know what Jack Blue Bieber looks like.
And I'm like, Victoria, that's being weird.
But so I like can sympathize with people,
you know, it's a curiosity.
But yeah, then it does become,
I can get out of hand if like,
you know, I'll have my mom's friends will text
and be like, just saw so-and-so's kid with a sitter.
And it's like, isn't that a little weird
that we have to be like,
we know so much about this kid.
I just want to clarify on my thing about,
I do want to offend.
I'm referring to like the Ruby Frankies,
the moms whose kids now become the only reason they make,
or the dad's parents, they make money.
And I've seen it even in the airport.
This dad had a GoPro on his backpack strap on his chest.
And I was watching him like talk to his kid.
And like, it's just so sad when the kid's like five
and they realize like,
oh, well, dad's gonna love me more.
And dad's gonna be happy today.
If I like react really crazily to this thing he's saying
or showing me, you know what I mean?
No, that's honestly like gonna make me cry.
That's really sad.
It's taking away their childhood.
So it's like those things that make me really sad.
But oh my God, I'm so happy for you.
Thank you.
Yay.
Are you doing a gender reveal?
What can people expect?
We will just between Lane and I, we already did it.
So we know the gender, which we're really excited about.
I'm really excited.
Lane's really excited.
So it's all good.
And also, you know, we want multiple kids.
So it's like, you know, sometimes like the first gender is like,
you know, it's just totally, totally.
Will the public be in on this later down the line?
Yes.
Later down the line.
What's your guess?
Oh, my guess.
Well, I just guessed on a FaceTime with a friend this morning and was wrong.
Wait, what?
Yes.
I have a friend.
You're like, how did she know?
No, I was on FaceTime with a friend who's pregnant.
And she told me, but before she told me, she had me guess,
which I felt like I felt bad because like when you think you really know.
Yeah.
I thought I knew I was like, I have.
I have an intuition.
It's this.
And she was like, no, it's the other way.
Yeah.
Okay.
Should I whisper it?
Well, you would tell me.
You don't have to tell you.
Oh, my God.
Wait, can I guess first?
Yes.
Oh, no, because then our reaction will give it away.
Yes.
I'd rather not guess and just know.
Okay.
Can you read me?
Wait, I think so.
Yeah.
Oh, that's so exciting.
Yay.
Wow.
I'm so glad that you told me you were pregnant because we've been talking about this for
30 minutes.
No, and I haven't.
It's so funny.
I haven't even talked about it really before.
So this is the first time
truly ever talk about my pregnancy. Wow. Oh my God. It's an honor. Real Pod is brought to you

dot com, onepeloton.com. Okay, well, it sounds like the past three months have been different just because of the symptoms
you were experiencing. But like, I feel like SI, you've been crushing it there. You're at
everything. Like, how has work been going? And yeah, how are you thinking about it moving forward
with like a maternity leave? You have great questions, Bec. By the way, I'm like, oh,
am I thinking about it moving forward? No, it's okay. And you don't have to be. I love that you're
like, I don't know, you know? No, I think, you know, moving forward, I definitely need to take
more breaks. I think this was a huge sign of like, hey, slow down in general. I didn't realize how
hard I was working until I got pregnant, I think, if that makes any sense. I'm like looking back,
the old content, like, what can I post today? Oh, my gosh. I'm looking back. And in one day,
I'm like, doing a workout, filming a workout, filming three recipes, has 16 Zoom meetings,
one podcast, going to an event. And I'm literally like, oh, I was crazy. And so I really think it's
like taught me a lot about my career, like slow down. And it's really good to slow down to speed
up because right now, because of the last three months, I've had no motivation. I now am re-pumped
up and re-energized to like enter this next phase of my life with more motivation of that.
That makes sense. I also think I've heard from a lot of moms, it actually makes you
way more productive in a weird sense, because you only have a certain amount of time every day to
work. And I do feel like now I have such a great team, like finally have the most amazing team in
place. And that really matters. Like now more than ever getting pregnant, I was like, thank God for
the good team that I have in place because it's really hard to do without a good people around
you. And so I think that I credit a lot to that as well. And knowing that if I take three months
they got it, they can, you know, do an amazing schedule and program and everything like that
while I'm gone. Awesome. And will you be having like additional fitness gurus? Are you pre-batching
this content? That's actually what we're talking about right now, because I do understand like
people, if they are watching all my videos, I mean, I have 500 workout videos. This March is
actually the eighth year of my app, which is just crazy. So it's so much content on there that you
can always re-add. By the way, there's a whole new program coming out, two new programs that I haven't
yet, like that, you know, you could still do with me, not necessarily as pregnant, if that makes any
sense. So still lots to come, but I understand if I'm doing an entirely like a postpartum program
and like, it's per se, maybe too easy for you and you don't need to work on your pelvic floor as
much and your body alignment, then I totally understand that, you know, either you could do
my old programs, my old workout videos, but I am thinking about bringing on some new girls because
I just feel like I understand if my audience doesn't want to follow the exact schedule that
I'm on. Yeah, definitely.
And I think that that's a totally appropriate, like next evolution. I know like Melissa Wood's
app, she's got multiple people. So yeah, that makes so much sense. And do you think you'll
actually give yourself like time off social in maternity leave? Or do you think you'll want to
be posting? I have no idea. I feel like definitely enjoying every moment. And I actually remember
when you told me back in the day when I was getting married, take the month off beforehand
and like take some time and you'll never get this time back. And I feel like I didn't really do that.
And I felt like I was working up until that like Thursday of my wedding. And I look back now and
I was like, wow, I really wish I took Victoria's advice, like slow down for the wedding because
that time will never get back. And so I just really want to be conscious of it because time
like when the newborn phase is gonna fly by, I know it's gonna be hard as shit, but it is going
to fly by. So it's like, if I can get to posting, absolutely. But at the end of the day, like most
importantly, priority number one overall is spending time with the baby. I think that's amazing. Yeah,
it sounds like so much fun. Yeah.
It's so dreamy to just be like on the couch with your partner and like having this newborn and just
be like lounging. I know, but also so tired. Yeah, no, seriously. It's so funny how everyone
has a different experience because I saw a TikTok that was like, my postpartum has been amazing.
Like we sit here every day. You know, you don't hear that as much. Are you planning for a night
nurse, a sitter? Do you have a doula? No, we're not planning for a night nurse. I'm saying this
now. I want to be like in the trenches and like really try to figure it out myself, especially
if I need help because I already have like one or two kids. That's totally fine. And I definitely
think like a lot of my friends are like, get a night nurse. You're going to need one. So if it
comes to the point where it's taking a huge mental toll on me, I will hire a night nurse. I also
think that's a very privileged thing. They're so expensive. And if I can, I'll just utilize my
mother. So that would really, really be great. But as of right now, we probably wouldn't do any
with the baby and how much help I really need. Because I think like a really hard thing would
be like to hire help and then like feel like you just want to do it yourself.
Right. I totally get what you're saying of you don't know what it will feel like. So it's like
you want to see that first and then make that decision. I totally get that.
And I feel like I love control. Like I think that's also why pregnancy is so hard because
I love control so much. I love to plan and I know we've talked about that. And so
maybe having someone else taking care of like the night nurse,
I just I don't know. I don't know. I actually called Lane my night nurse because I'm literally
like, why do I need to hire someone? He's going to be night duty. Like you're going to do one
feed in the middle of night. I'll pump beforehand. You're going to be right. This is the plan now.
Right. He'll do the one feed so I can have at least four hours of sleep. Gorgeous.
Yeah. And it's perfect. It's a perfect plan. Yes. Oh, my gosh. That's so exciting. What is
Denise's name going to be? Has she thought about it? Of course she's thought about that. She doesn't
even have one name. She has two. And it's Grammy and Dee Dee. Oh, those are both cute.
- Yeah, yeah, yeah.
She's stoked, let me tell you.
Dee Dee and Grammy.
Max's mom is a Grammy.
Oh, I love, Grammy's cute.
Love a Grammy.
And of course, my dad doesn't have a name yet.
He's like, oh, my mom's like,
what's your name, Jeff?
What's your name?
And he's like, Jeff.
I'll think about it when the baby comes.
JJ.
JJ.
She's Dee Dee.
Pops.
Yeah, it is so, it's funny nowadays
how they all get so creative.
Yeah, yeah.
I like that Denise is embracing, though, a Grammy, though.
Sometimes, like, the ones that don't want
any grandma association,
they'll go, like, really creative.
She wants Grammy Dee Dee.
So let's see.
Well, it also just depends what, like, my kid can say.
Oh, that's so cute.
Okay, so we talked about SI a little bit.
Did you shoot for them this year?
Good question again, Vic.
I don't know.
I might have.
Okay.
So stay tuned for that.
It's going to be really, really exciting,
and especially with our big talk that we just had,
you can understand why it's exciting.
And different.
Yeah, what is it like being an SI model,
having your body change, entering motherhood, you know?
That's hard.
That was really hard.
I won't lie.
I'll talk about it later for sure
once everything has come to fruition,
if that makes sense.
But especially being in a bikini
and knowing that your body's changing,
and I felt, I don't know, not mentally myself.
It's hard to go into anything, by the way.
If you're showing up for a sports military swimsuit shoot
or a day of work and not feeling like your best self,
but it was really, really special.
And every single year, I've felt like my best self.
But I mean, SI has been the best journey, honestly.
And I really do mean that.
I love being a part of community
that feels so much bigger than me and my brand
and aligned with the same things.
And the girls are part of it.
Like, as you know, I've met my best friend through SI.
I've met so many of my amazing friends
through Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.
And so being a part of that has been really, really, really fun.
And I can't believe I've been doing it now since 2020,
which is crazy.
Time flies.
But again,
if you don't know the journey part of it too,
I auditioned since 2017.
So I submitted a tape since 2017.
They do a thing called Swim Search
where they open it up online.
If you know Camille Kostick,
she auditioned through that.
Hayley Bailey auditioned through that.
And they both got it that way as well.
Brooks Nader.
So that's what I did.
And I didn't get it.
I didn't get it.
I didn't get it.
Year four, I finally got it, which is crazy.
And I'll never forget.
I remember buying that edition
because I had a few friends in it.
And I was like, this is incredible.
And now you've been a repeat.
Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat.
And so it's been really fun.
And it's fun because I do feel like
every year is an incredible occasion.
It's really great.
But every year they bring on these fun new girls
and they get to be a part of the entire launch weekend.
And it feels like a really one big family.
And I really, really mean that.
I think we throw the word empowering around a lot.
And it's like, what does even empowering mean at this point?
But it's so empowering
and it's so fun for me to be a part of.
It feels like this fun,
just different part of my career
that I can really,
let loose and be myself.
And they really, really
protect what you stand for,
if that makes sense.
And they amplify it in a way
that I've just been really appreciative for.
What would your advice be
to someone who is doing Swim Search
and is like, how do I get chosen or get seen?
Keep doing it, number one,
because the first year,
they'll probably not even see you.
Your second year, who knows?
Like they didn't even see my videos.
MJ Day, the head of the brand
and the editor in chief,
last year I was doing this for,
my fifth year,
I was doing this like whole video
about how, you know,
when I auditioned for Swim Search
because they were promoting Swim Search
and MJ happened to be like right,
you know, it was on my shoot day.
She happened to be like near me.
She was like, you auditioned that much?
And I was like, yes.
She's like, I had no idea.
So at the end of the day,
like just keep getting their attention.
Like do not stop.
And I tell that to girls all the time.
Like I was actually at an event last night
and she was like, I really want SI.
I was like, okay, have you sent in your tapes?
Have you had your agency call?
Have you done anything?
She's like, no,
but I've wanted it for years.
And I'm like, okay,
well, first step is turn yourself in.
Well, you know why?
It's humbling.
It's humbling to put a video out,
to go for something and to not get it.
But I did it for four years.
Yeah, which is bad.
And let me tell you,
of course, looking back now,
I'm like, damn, that is a little bit much.
That's crazy.
But what if I didn't submit it in 2020?
I would never be in it for this long.
And I think that's like the coolest part about it.
Like you miss 100% of the shots that you don't take.
So why not?
Like just because you didn't get it one year
doesn't mean it's not.
It's a no in any sense.
Maybe it just wasn't the right timing.
Maybe that they, you know,
like didn't see your video.
I want to let you guys know in my year,
I know there was 22,000 applicants.
It's easy to be overlooked.
And that's in any jobs applying situation.
So just see it like that.
And a no does not mean you're not getting it.
But I do think that the biggest thing about SI Swimsuit
is to have a brand message,
something that you stand for that's powerful.
Like for me, it's obviously,
you know, movement for your mind
and, you know, mental health
and for work.
With working out
and what you're putting in your body
and everything like that.
And Jenna Sims,
she runs, you know, a charity foundation
and she helps, you know,
little girls feel confident in,
you know, with their,
and doing pageants with them.
And a lot of girls have different lines
for different body sizes
or whatever that is.
Like, what is your message
that you're getting across?
That is the most important thing.
Okay. I love it.
Take notes, ladies.
But you got this.
Put on that damn swimsuit.
Yes.
Film your SI Swimsuit edition today.
Yeah.
This is your sign.
If you were thinking about it,
Katie is telling you.
This was so fun.
I could sit here all day and talk to you.
I know, me too.
You don't have any more questions?
Are you sure?
I'm like, yes, tell me everything.
What else?
I'm so excited for you.
And like, not real pod,
like kind of accidentally
getting this exclusive
worked out perfectly.
Okay. Your phone's going to be blowing up.
By the time this comes out,
your pregnancy will be announced to the world.
It's going to be all positive,
all good vibes.
I'm so happy.
I'm so happy for you and Lane.
Thank you.
You're going to be the most fun,
loving parents.
Thank you.
And Millie is going to be
a brand new sibling, right?
She's going to be not used to it.
She's an attention little brat.
And so she,
she needs like a cuddle and a pet
at every moment in time.
So she's going to take some
getting used to that.
It's going to be okay.
Lane's heart's going to have to grow
two sizes.
Yes, it will.
Well, I love you.
And I hope you have a fun day
with Liza after this.
Thank you.
