Josh Peck’s Wild Night With Kid Cudi, Drake & Josh, Hilary Duff + More EP 79 | The Crew Has It
1h 11m 39s
Josh Peck reflects on his journey from a child star on *Drake & Josh* to a mature actor and public figure, highlighting the show’s lasting impact and the strong bond he shares with Drake. He credits his early success to being overweight and funny, which resonated with Nickelodeon executives. The show, with its progressive sketches and real-time creative adjustments, was ahead of its time and deeply influential. Peck emphasizes the importance of authenticity, personal growth, and genuine connections, noting that his career has evolved beyond fame into a meaningful life with family and personal passions. He shares behind-the-scenes experiences, such as awkward auditions and improvisational work with Dave, underscoring the value of spontaneity and audience connection. Peck also discusses his approach to wellness, including fitness and supplements, while maintaining a grounded perspective on success. He values real-life experiences over performance and believes in staying true to oneself, even as the entertainment industry evolves. His journey reflects a balance between humor, authenticity, and personal growth, making him both a beloved figure and a thoughtful storyteller.
- So being an overweight kid, not kidding. (laughing) - Have at it, we have covered it. (laughing) (upbeat music) - That's ones of the Airport Buying Breakfast. - Buying Breakfast. (upbeat music) - Day one, day one. (upbeat music) - I like hearing you on Chrissy D's podcast. - Oh, hell yeah. - Yeah, so good. - Yeah, he's the best. - So are you like wrapped in with the comedy world? Or kind of like, yeah, kind of just friendly in a fan. - Yeah. - Yeah, kind of like, 'cause I saw you on, you just did Santino's who I've been tight with him for a while. - Santino's great. - The best. - He's great, who else? Bert, obviously, is great. - Have you met Theo? - I, yeah, Theo and I go way back. - Oh, hell yeah. - Like, he had a pot originally with my buddy Matt. - Yeah, the, um, the T. - Legially. - Yeah. - So I, I started producing on Theo's podcast when he was doing allegedly still. He was still doing this past weekend in his, um, uh, in his apartment. - No way. - Yeah. Okay, guys, we have arguably my favorite guests we've ever had in our lives. We're the only podcasts on Planet Earth that could do Fettie walk on a Thursday and Josh Peck on a Tuesday. We have the legend himself in here. Josh Peck, we need a round of applause for this. - Thank you so much. - An honor. Fettie, I get it. I was once detained for J-walking. - No, where are you? - We similarly, we've been through the system. This shit is hard. - Right? Hard to do. - Would you, do you ever got any real trouble? - No, not, not with the police. I've been around some good fights. - Oh, nice. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. My boys fought in North Hollywood football team. Um, North Hollywood high school football team. I'm trying, yeah, I've been in some, you know, some-- - Did you get in there? Did you get in there? Did you get a few punches in the room? - Some dust-ups, not done some shoving, for sure shoving. - And some light shoving. - Light shoving, even medium shoving, but for the most part, no. I mean, it's just like when I, to the reason why I don't talk about politics much, 'cause I'm like, you really want to see the guy from Drake and Josh in a fist fight, maybe. But like, it has to be Drake and I on Netflix. - Yeah, I probably might not be playing though. - I'm like, I'm not the guy you get information from. If you want to laugh for an hour, I'm your guy. If you want to come get entertained, don't ask me what I think about foreign policy. Like, it's, I'm not the guy for it. - No, absolutely not. But if Drake and I could fight Logan Paul on Netflix, like, you should do that. Maybe we have a chance. - Dude, that would do numbers. - Yo, let's set it up. - It could be the most watched thing of all time. - That would be dope. I would probably be about as formidable as Nate Robbins. - Yeah, I made it on the spot. - Jake, but what can you do? - Did you go to normal in high school? - No, I went to performing arts high school in New York, 'cause I grew up in the city. So I went to PPS. And then when I moved here, basically, the people I worked for were like, "You shouldn't be in high school anymore." I'm like, "You can decide that." They're like, "Yeah, we can." Yeah, you're out, kid. Wait, so how young were you once, the first thing you ever booked was a mandat Show? - It was a movie for Nickelodeon before the Amanda Show called Snow Day. - Oh, of course, yeah. - I just didn't know if Snow Day went first or a mandat Show went first. That was the first thing you ever booked. - Yeah, and I would audition for Nickelodeon all the time, 'cause all that was like my SNL. - Right. - And it was my dream, but I never got it. But I got Snow Day, and I remember the president of Nickelodeon at the time, the sky Albee. Like, he was like, "What's your deal?" And I'm like, "I'm overweight and funny." That's my deal. I'm like, "You fucking need me, right?" And he's like, "Maybe I do need you." And nine months later, he called and he's like, "I'm putting you on the Amanda Show and I'm moving you and your mom to California." - Wow. - And that changed my life. - Wait, so how, like, where did you get your comedic timing? Were you in classes, were you doing improv? Like, 'cause I'm gonna give you your flowers. - Well thank you. - You are literally arguably one of the funniest comedic actors, like growing up, like, you were the go. - Thank you. - Truly. - I love, I mean, probably similar to you guys, I know I'm older, but it's like, my best single mom, only child, no money, grew up just watching television. That was, like, my mom would have to go work and would just leave me alone at the house. And so it was me and the fresh prints and Billy Madison and like, those were my best friends. And so I think I was just trying to copy them. - Right, yeah. - And were you popular in high school at that time? - No, you were just now. - I was usually like the funny guys can like, you know, they can kinda be, like, you know, be in with the guys because they're funny. - It's a favorite part. Do you ever see, I did this movie called The Whackness? - I have not. - It's called The Whackness. It's me and Ben Kingsley and Method Man. - Right, wow. - Oh yeah, Method Man was on our show. - Yeah. - He's the best. - The go. - But it's about New York hip hop in the 90s. And my character as a sliny goes, I was kinda the coolest of the uncooler, the most uncooler of the cool. - That's cool. I like that. - I passed. - I was passing. - Michael, have you seen that movie? - The Whackness, no, I haven't seen it. - We gotta watch that. - You love it. - Method Man's great. - He's the best. And he's such a good actor too. We were doing a press for the movie and he was like, "Yo, where's my backpack?" And the publicist was like, "Oh, I think it's in the town card downstairs." And he was like, "Can you get it?" And she was like, "Yeah, sure." And she went downstairs and she was, "The town card left, we'll work out." And he goes, "That backpack has $45,000 in cash in it." - Let's do it. - Yeah. - And I was like, "No, but let's find the car." - Yeah, Method Man needs his back. - Yeah, he would wrap in between takes with us. - No. - He would just freestyle on this nap. Like it would. - That was the best. He would have the crew and everybody going crazy. He would just kick off freestyle randomly. They said, "No lights, we just finished rehearsing the scene." He just like starts kicking freestyle. And everybody's like, "Yo, this is really Method Man on set right now." - Yeah, he would go on Instagram live and he'd tell everyone that IE-ass and I'm like, "Nath, what are you doing?" Like, "I do it, like, keep it down, dude." - Yeah. - Yeah. - It's very like a trend now. - Yeah. - Eating ass. - Yeah, are you involved in some of that? - Me? - Yeah. - Let me think about how I want to answer that. - Well, actually, yeah, I'll give you a second answer. But also, do you still feel like you can't, since you came from Nickelodeon, that you still somewhat have to like, - No. - No, you're off that. - But I also know that I'm 39 with three kids and I'm married. - Right. - So I'm like, I also think it's corny to be two. - Yeah, I get that. - You're always walking this line where you don't want to be like the guy who's trying to like spit on your old image. But you also have to know your audience. Like, I know with you, like, you are so hard-bodied, karate Nickelodeon. Let me give you a little insight, Michael. Forget he's here, okay? Since we have become friends over text, every text I get from him is like, yo, can we to see you Dylan Sprouse is here? Like, he's like, yo, I'm just kicking it with Frankie Munis. I'm like, you know, I have other interests because besides child stars, I'm just like, he's like, I'm getting like, a shy love-up wants to see you. I'm like, oh, like, I exist in many worlds. - That's actually like, and I have known that about you, 'cause I do see you pop up and like, you do a pretty crazy side-question shit like that. - Thank you very much. - All right, so obviously you just-- - You can ask me more about Nickelodeon. - No, I like talking about that. - That's what I was about to say. So like, you did Oppenheimer with Christopher Nolan. You just got cast in Cross, which season one was incredible, and it crossed it. But obviously we have, me and Michael do have questions of Drake and Josh. - Sure. - Do you like talking about it? - Yeah, I'm happy too. I really don't mind. - Yeah. - Like, the thing about it is it's only ever annoying if it's like the thing that people won't, if I'm auditioning for something in a bit of a different light and they just can't see you pass that, that's the only time it's slightly annoying. But I'm so lucky, like my life has been made so much better by doing this beloved show that people love and grew up with, and it makes the world a small town. Like, you know, you go to your local store or bar or whatever in your little town, and they go, "Hey Jim, hey Ricky, what can I get you?" Like, what do you need? You want me to run out back for you? It's kind of my life in most scenarios. Like, I walk in and people go, "Dude, how are you?" - They feel like they know you. - And it's just like an immediate, like, let's bro down. Let's have a good time. So I feel very lucky that people feel comfortable to be like, "Man, I loved your show." Like, "Would you like a nice room at the Marriott courtyard?" And I'm like, "Yeah, I fucking would." - Like, please. - A hundred years. - Yeah, please give me courtyard view, please. The Marriott courtyard, it's my favorite commuter hotel. I love the continental bracket. - That's so good. - That's hilarious. - Do you remember the audition process of it? Like, was it a straight offer or? - Yeah, because Drake and I were on the Amanda show. - Right. - And so we started to really vibe kind of halfway through it. And basically, they went to the people who were running the show, the producers and the writers. So like, we'd really like an updated Kenan and Kel. - Yeah. - And what do you got? And he didn't know, no one knew, right? And there's this writer named Steve Milaro, who was watching us and Steve's gone on to do the big bang theory in Young Sheldon, like a brilliant, really powerful writer and producer. And Drake and I are doing this scene where we're fighting over shrimp. And he kind of looks and goes, "There's the buddies." - Wow. - He's like, "That's the show." And six months later, we were doing the pilot. - Wow, that's great. Do you remember your favorite sketch from a Amanda show? Do you have one? - Tony Pajamas. - Oh, yeah, of course, yeah, yeah. Or you were in the blockbuster sketch too, right? - Yeah, sure, a couple of times. - That's a block blister. - Yeah, it's a block blister, yeah. I wonder about that guy's house somehow one time, at like a family party. - Who? - John Cassier's name, yeah. - John's great guy. - Yeah, sweet guy. - And that guy. - Yeah, weirdly one of L.A.'s just weird. But do you do some psychos to yourself? - Yeah, I do do some crazy psychos, 100%. So the show happens, you do the pilot. Do you feel like,
I think it's gonna be a hit. I thought we were funny, 'cause it was the football episode, is the pilot, it's a fight, it's like with a bully, we're fighting, I get in trouble with a bully, I don't think it's a football episode, I get in trouble with a bully, and I just remember I did like karate training and Drake gets me ready to fight with a bully. - Oh, right, yes. - But what else was like a bit forward thinking about the show is I'm also cross-dressing in the pilot. - Yeah, you are, yep. - You weren't that big, like, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I wrote an advice column, and Drake kinda says like you can't if you want, but he's like you don't, if you think you are sort of honing or channeling this great advice character by wearing the dress and the wig, you probably are just as good out of it. And I go, thank you so much. So listen, we're a bit of ahead of the time. - Did they give you a lot of, yeah, that's hilarious. Did they give you a lot of creative liberties, like options on wardrobe, improving. Did you do a lot of your own jokes or was it kind of like? - No, like I think, no. It was a pretty like, do what we said. - Yeah, yeah. - Like wardrobe too, everything kind of, yeah. - Yeah, I mean, the liberty was within, as you tell me with doing stuff like power and whatnot and all the stuff you guys have worked on, like to me, and I really give it a lot of credit. If like, if what you're doing within the construct of what they gave you is great and different and the best actors I know, I've worked with some incredible improvisers. Kevin Hart and Andy Sandberg and all these people who are beyond brilliant. But when an actor can do the line is written, but I never expected it to be said that way, I'm like, oh wow. Like you're doing something I could never, I'd like when people make something brilliant out of the constraints of what they're given. What do you think? - I'd agree with that. I also think like, power's a little different because it's a lot of like New York lingo and, and like, I'll give you a good example of something that we changed was, so Young Thug was on trial at the time. And we were also gonna get a Rico case on us in the show. So there was a line that said, like, there's a Rico on us, like Gambino Crime Family Rico. But Young Thug was also on trial. So me and Michael, like, let's just change it to YSL Rico because he was getting a Rico and was like, then when it came out eight months later, Thug was still in prison on trial. He hadn't come out and it went so viral on Twitter. People were like, oh my God, they brought up like the YSL trial on this. So like me and Michael did a lot of like, on the pulse changes of like, sometimes like a writer, it was free. - Yeah, in their 40s, we might not get that. So me and Mike did that a lot. We also added a lot of bets and like, stuff that, - Yeah, especially like me and me from New York, like a lot of this stuff, like they weren't really putting a lot of New York slang or lingo in it. So like it would just be like the smallest things. Like he said like bet or like say less or like, like what's the word? Like, you know what I'm saying, rather than like, what's up, what's going on? Like it's just a little shit like that. So, and they let us rock with them. They're everything we wanted to do. - Yeah, they really, they let us kind of do whatever we wanted. - 'Cause I imagine like a writer who looks like me in his 40s and new balances. - Yeah. - And like, all right. - Yeah. - So, he's like, what's the word? - So the line is, you're wilding. - Yeah. - Let's add back the day. - It really was like, although we had like a lot of writers that like, you know, grew up in the trenches and stuff like that, but like there were a lot of like structural writers and writers that did good dialogue, but like they just don't kind of have their finger on the pulse, which is fine. Like you can't have it all, you know what I mean? - No, it's, and it's smart of them to be like, we have these two guys who are great and understanding and have a perspective that we'll never have. - Right, so just 'cause we're on this topic, like, so me and Michael go out all the time. Like we were just at the next game, then we'll go out to the club. We'll do a strip club like whenever. - He's sitting on the wood and at 100% feet on the wood. - Feet on the wood? - Yeah. - First row. - Yeah. - We tripping the referee. - Yeah, yeah. - I'm joking. - I got a comment section. - I was sitting on a Lando Magic game. I only get on the wood at tier two cities. - Why the good, go to the next game. I'll 100% they'll put you on the wood. - I don't really care. But I would, I'm like, I'll set you up. - My boy, the great Ben Sof from my co-hosts from the Good Guys podcast. He's a crazy nix fan. And so he was like, yo, he was like, let's go to the nix game. And I didn't know that he kind of like dropped my name to it. Like he's got his own hookups, so he was like, yo. And we're sitting in, it's a great seat. We're like 10 rows back. And I'm like, isn't this wonderful? He's like, I guess. And I'm like, Ben, what's wrong? And he only told me like months later, he's like, dog, they give like supporting actors on SVU wood tickets. - Oh, 100%. - He's like, we couldn't even get wood for you. - I'm 100%. - Yo, Tray, what the hell, Tray? Yo, we gotta talk to Tray about this. - Yeah, I failed you, Ben. - Now you guys know me. I love, you know, hibernating in the winter, getting a good dad bod. But with the summer coming up in just a couple months, I've been thinking about getting to a little better shape, even though I'm in the best shape of my life. - Now the problem is, I know some of you older guys and gals that watch the pod, your bodies might not snap back in a shape like they used to when you were in your 20s. But me, my body's tight. Now a lot of people think that the classic dad bod just comes from drinking more beer or eating worse, but for a lot of guys that's actually not the whole story. As men get older, our bodies reprogram themselves. We naturally start storing more fat and losing muscle faster. And the main reason for this is testosterone. Most men's testosterone levels start dropping as early as their 30s. I'm not barely a butt up close. When that happens, it becomes easier to gain fat, especially around your stomach. Here's the frustrating part. The more body fat you gain, the more your body actually converts testosterone into estrogen, which makes it even easier to gain more fat. That's why I started taking Mars men. Mars men is a natural supplement designed to support healthy testosterone levels, which can help your body burn more fat efficiently and build lean muscle. It's basically helping your body get back running like it did years ago. And for you old guys out there, I mean years ago. I love all of them making these jokes, but like it's creeping up on me. Just real natural ingredients like tanga Ali, Shilajat, zinc, boron, and more that support healthy T levels, weight management, and exercise performance. And the best part, the quality is legit. It's made in the USA and every batch is third party tested. So when I first started taking Mars men, I just started feeling better. I slept better. I woke up with more energy in the morning. My workouts were better. I was more clear in the head. I started losing belly fat around my stomach, even around my face, my face got leaner. Everything about Mars men just helped my day to day so much more. Now with Mars men, there's a 90 day money back guarantee, so there's zero risk. Whereas case, you don't absolutely love it like I do. And you get your money back. But over 91% of users report higher energy levels. That's 91%. And the best part is also available on Amazon's. You can get it fast, free, shipped right to your front door. Again, that is mengodomars.com. Tell them the boys sent you when you go to check out. They're going to ask you, tell them Michael and Gianni sent you. The crew has it. You know what it is back to the episode. When Drake and Josh happened, did you guys go out together like when you started not now? No way. The show didn't blow up till 10 years ago. We were done shooting. The show's been over for 20 years. Right, but it was big. What do you mean when you were shooting it, you're saying? It was a kid show. Right, OK, I do. It was like a, it was, so we were 19 when we finished. And the show was big to 13-year-olds. But like it, it's rerun so much and they don't, you know, like there's no residuals, right? So they can rerun it forever. And then internet culture, I think, made it big. But it felt such, so big when I was young. You felt like it wasn't like that until it was over. But think about when you were young. It was over for 10 years. It had already been done. Oh, yeah. Because you're what, 29? Yeah, I'm 29, yeah. Yeah, I'm 39. So probably when you were into it, I was, you know, we had been done for five years. Oh, so they were just ripping it on Nickelodeon, which is why I am. I didn't even know that. That's interesting. Yeah, it's, but it was recently Drake and I were hanging out. We went and got like a steak dinner. We're in Vegas together. And it is great to be with him. Dude, it must be nuts. And people like, oh, Josh Peck. And they're like, oh, wait, they're together. Yeah, people were like, they're on Ayahuasca. They're like, they're like, this can't be. Yeah. No, not you too. That's so funny. It's fun. And on set, like, did you guys get along immediately? Like, was there that camaraderie? Was there a little, was there competition? Like, because we, me and Michael, like, the first episode we did together was season five of power. And then I came back for season six. And that's when we got tight. And then we did it. And on together. Yeah, which is like, we were like locked in after that. But I can see how, and this has never happened with us, but I can see how shows pit actors against each other. It's built to pit actors against each other. Maybe not on purpose. But like, there's a number next to someone's name. There's a one, there's a two. There's a dollar amount on how much they make per episode. So when season three, four happens, and renegotiation happens, people get in their feelings. People start to like, not, you know, maybe they use that against each other. Did that ever happen with you? Where you guys were always kosher. But not a buddy show, right? That doesn't really count when it's Drake and Josh. OK, I guess. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If we weren't favored nations, which means he gets I get in vice versa, it would be so stupid. Right, right, right. So that way it was always great. We always had a deep love and respect for each other. I looked up to him as he was a little bit older and had had a lot of experience in the business. and I just thought he was musically and in so many ways talented and ways where I was.
wasn't right and I think he thought I was really funny yeah and so there was this great balance and yes we were brothers in high school so of course we had some feuds and things that you know I think eventually people learned about but it was all there was this deep sense of love for each other throughout it always and now to be 39 and to see him being a dad and obviously I have three kids it's it's I just have a deep love and affection for him and and to see who he's become yeah yeah yeah yeah it's so funny because people think because you're so tight on the show which me and Michael are and obviously you and Drake were yeah but like that that that's your relationship that's on the show that's your relationship in real life and it's like it's so it's it's so not that because there's so many intricacies of like what what's happening real life career personal issues like all that stuff that people don't see so they just assume like oh they're but they're tight in the show they should be tight in real life it's it all you know what here's a good thing is and I think Santino or our boy yeah our boy Santino yeah he said this it's like we don't get to decide there's this great line from the St. Francis prayer it's better to understand than to be understood right if you have a deep desire and a need to be understood by the masses it's a wrap yeah that's actually so that's when you shave your head and attack the paparazzi yeah I love you Brittany I'm not talking about Brittany yeah like that's when you have them break down because it's impossible yeah and when you just say like listen your experience of watching Drake and Josh or whatever this thing is like that is unique and real to you right and like my opinion on your experience is unimportant I'm just I just hope you love to dude it's like that's so awesome I don't know it's a lot of therapy by the press and see if it's made yeah wait so did you part did you party at all while you were filming like after oh you wrapped in you were like it's time yeah to put maybe the last like the final like half of the last season I was in full cliche mode yeah do you remember a party that you went to or anything we're like fuck I'm lit or like anything like that oh my god I you know a lot it's a lot no oh man I wish I could have got out with you guys closer and age but here's a meeting Michael at marquee oh a partner percent dude I know that's not a cool club anymore but just give it to me all right Mike this and we out let's do it taking a drink all gonna honey Dutch it's living our full you know yeah the thing with power though is like me and Michael kind of get a lot of liberties like like we're at a strip club with skill a baby like six days ago okay I felt like if you came off Drake and Josh and we're at a strip club with like at that time like young GZ it'd be like this is a little too much yeah it's I yeah I felt I feel like we get a lot of liberties from that but like do you do you remember a moment where you're like outside and you're just like fuck yeah like you like I'm bugging yeah yeah no I don't think I've ever I mean yeah there've been really when I got big on social media like in the early days of vine I remember I was I was as I'm sure you're very familiar with my filmography I've done a 3D dance movie with Chris Brown guys I'm pretty fucking late and and I remember it was like premiering in they were doing a big screening in Orlando and Vine had just been out for like six months and so I just kind of put out one of those things of like because you know we've all done those you know fan screenings and they do it in a city to kind of spread word of mouth and it's sort of a cheap marketing device so just a guys I'm gonna be at this theater in Orlando on Saturday like come out come on some movie it'll be great excited to meet you guys and it was like one of those rare like two thousand people showed up they had to call security like hell yeah one of those rare silly moments and that was over my 3d dance movie with Chris Brown so drinking Josh I don't know I don't know if they're I don't know yeah speaking like Chris Brown and like artists like I'll see Jake and Josh one of the most iconic shows like everybody like from all type of coaches fuck with Jake and Josh like what was like some crazy artists that you met and they were like super excited like super excited to meet you or like was it like any rappers or like any like kid cutting wild fuck oh that's fire I remember my boy Brian Greenberg was on a show with him called how to make it in America yeah yeah and and so I see Brian one night right this club in Hollywood and like I'm in my early 20s at this point oh yeah Josh and don't shake a bonajack and I got like from the outlet and and I remember I run into my boy Brian and I'm like oh it's great to see you bubble blind he's like yo we're actually doing a cast party over here um kid cuties here like you want to go say what's up and I'm like no it's like I love kid cutie like I'm the biggest fan like and I just I'd had enough I'm like I don't want to ruin this for myself like I love him and if he's not cool I'm gonna be bomb he's like trust me he's the best come over so I go over to him and literally maybe like within 10 feet of him he looks grabs my face and goes oh and he goes I love drinking Josh and I was like I love you cutie and he's like call me Scott I'm like I don't want to and he goes and we're chatting and we're just like we're chopping it up we're having a great time and he's like yo like let me get your number like here take my number and I'm like kid cutie he's like call me Scott I'm like no thank you and I go if this bubble comes up green it's all good yeah yeah it's the next day he text me and he's like yo it's good for him I'm like nothing much Scott and I was like what are you up to and he's like oh I'm just shopping and I'm like oh word like home goods like and he's like no on rodeo I'm like that makes more sense he's like what are you up to I'm like I'll play next box of my friends face but also same and I'm like he's like yo do you want to come to the studio later and listen to my new album I was like absolutely so I show up at the studio and it was just as beautiful of like a rapper experience as you can imagine like like you know much like the great Betty Wop like there's like 20 people there and like like there was literally one guy who is there all night who would just listen to tracks and be like yo son shit is genius yeah that's the one yeah that's it and and so we're listening to his album and it's great and he's like yo Kanye West and I'm like sparber is on his way would you like a haircut I'm like I'm gonna pass I'm like this Jewish fro like this is not I don't know if not a lot of people know how to navigate this thing but wow and so I spent like six hours at kid cuties studio listening to his new album that's hilarious man it was after day and night it was like the follow-up like after you know he exploded yeah when he played it where you just kind of like you didn't know who to make eye contact with cuz that's how it is sometimes you're like I don't know where to look I don't know to bang my head like what's sometimes different artists like different things so you were just like I'm just gonna look down and buy my head you really don't know yeah he was great he couldn't have been nicer and then he hit me up again years later or like a year later and he's like yo like you want to hang out I'm like sure Scott and so I pick him up from his hotel and he's like yo I want to go to the spot real quick and he went got some weed got back in the car I'm like where we going he's like we go back to the hotel and I'm like that we go back to the hotel he's like thanks fam I'm like was I over no way we had a night he probably got back to the room I was like dude Josh Pegg just ubered me here and that you're like I'm like me 5 stars not an uber that's so funny did you have a Disney or Nickelodeon crush growing up after well I did this show how I met your father with Hillary yes yeah for like two seasons and we played love interest and and I didn't I knew her we had done a small indie when we were kids together but I we weren't like super friendly and to like become her friend and to watch her on that show I was like oh you are easy to love like she's even now she's wonderful she's got to be the most beautiful wiker on the planet she's beautiful she's queen this house she's like a great mom and I see all the clip she just did something with her son and they just look like she's just the best like I'm gonna give her her flowers she's cool she deserves it yeah she's about have her on I would could you no Michael Michael I'll connect you job oh yeah no Michael and I are connect no but I didn't like set me up with I meant set her on the podcast no no I get it yeah no it's not I love it no no this isn't happening what can we cut Michael's feed he's in New York we're good we're super good just tell me what it is 917 and then the other seven I got you anymore after this week we set it all up do you have a top three favorite Drake and Josh episodes I don't I like there's it's kind of a deeper track it's not on some like you know the tree house shit yeah I like the one where we're we're babysitting and we lose the baby on the roof oh yeah that's like a it's a deep cut yeah but I just remember it being one of my favorite it's early on right and I remember being 15 going like wow I can't believe the reason I want
to do that show and I loved it was because like I said you know fresh Prince of Lair and all those great sitcoms growing up like they were broad yeah they were hard-fawning and I was like I can't believe I'm doing the thing that I love like this is my favorite and then after Drake and Josh doing things like the whackness or how I'm at your father Oppenheimer I think people always sort of question like are you turning your back on that it's like no I just I wanted to also taste and try these other things but my heart is always in those hard funny moments yeah if you could do a dream project next obviously you're on cross but like would you do something like very comedic or would you like to do more films like what's what's like blue sky for you I don't know I don't really I've always had plans throughout my life and then it's always been revealed that was whatever was next was the right thing yeah I feel that and I couldn't have ever planned it right like you know we plan in god lapse and so it's just like I kind of give it up I would like to work with Denzel Washington yeah I was just about to ask I'm like yo who's somebody who I haven't worked with I think I think Denzel with fucks with me hard body karate because I know I would leave him alone yeah I would be I would be like whatever you need for me mr. Washington I'm right here yeah right I'll be in my trailer yeah yeah like I would just be like you want him you need a little joky joke you want joke around for three minutes and then walk away and not say bye I'm your man you want someone to have a nice time with and then not keep in touch with after this gotcha yeah that's a list he's so good yeah he is he's so cool he's got on the show too no Vernon could you that one I could no I say no to Hillary but yes and that would just turn in Johnson talk book you know what we need you know bro I can't set you up with Hillary up but actually you're already in a group text with Denzel I it's done has he ever done a podcast I feel like he's like allergic to them I've never seen anything Mike have you I don't think we'll ever see Denzel do a podcast yeah you have a pod so this actually a good question ask how do you feel because sometimes I I go back and forth and I'm just like I like Chalamet doesn't have a podcast so but the industry is changing so much and as someone who adopted social media so well with Dave which I want to get into with Vine with TikTok yeah how do you feel like it's benefited you and you feel like that's the way the whole industry is going anyway yeah is is that kind of how you I think there's this is an honest question when you say Chalamet doesn't have a pod do you aspire to Chalamet I aspire to to make the movies he makes I don't aspire to like I'm not trying to be like this this mysterious massive duper movie star right duck off for six months with Kylie Jenner although it would be sick yeah I'm more of a candle guy anyways but but it's because my I'm more person well I love being in the mix I love being outside like I have a lot of different groups of friends obviously like Hannah's stocking in here like a lot of the people who do social media anyways and I like being in the mix but I want to make movies like that so that's my pushing pull does that make sense yes okay so here's my follow-up question because I asked this myself this all the time one thing I'll give Timothy Chalamet that I know for sure besides the fact that he's naturally gifted seems like just a to me shall yeah I'm at a music dude we fucking have a great time with them could you you could we grew up a block away from each other I'm like what talent fountain were you drinking from that I missed I'm like we were going to different bodegas because you grew up but you lived in Manhattan Plaza oh that's crazy and I grew up a block away in hell's kitchen okay so here's my follow-up question that you want to do the projects he does yeah are you willing to work as hard as he does thousand percent Michael tell you yeah yeah yeah cuz it's not G is G is on it cuz he's on it that's a part of it right like and I think that might be why he doesn't have the ten extracurricular things right is that I would imagine in preparation for something he's spending three to six months in it yeah he did say that he which I don't know if I could do he for a complete unknown he didn't have a phone for six months right and because he was playing Bob Dylan I'm like oh my eyes are on the phone at 6 a.m. the second I wake up eyes on the phone and you're dating Kylie Jenner how are you not on the phone right what do you mean she's at the crib I guess but I think he said he ducked off and went somewhere else like six months no Kylie Jenner couldn't be me so maybe I don't and that's what about you three three months sounds good yeah three months but you guys you guys are have a blessing which is this extra layer right and it's all of like I remember in moments where I would be like it where I'd go a year without working right and I had Robert Green on my podcast who wrote the 48 laws of power yeah wow that's cool and I sit to him like what could you just this is gonna be a running bit it's gone it's not gonna that's my last yes I'll connect what we got you know we got you have Denzel Robert Green Hillary yeah no forget Hillary and Chalamet yes all of us and then we'll take in a marquee yeah they're gonna kick it the sad thing is we're getting pushed out and guess who's driving kid cut he's driving us yes this will bring it but yeah man I mean I but I remember like when I've gone like a year or so without working and frustrated and and having a bunch of auditions it didn't pan out like I remember Robert Green on the pod said he's like yeah but you're not a real estate agent he's like like everything you've done every acting class every performance everything you've done has uniquely prepared you to be great on a pod and to be good at social and to write a book and to do these live shows that you do like it's all a blessing it's all an offshoot of this thing so much like in that I try not to control anything too much right like because if I decide what's best for me I'm rarely right and I usually undersell myself yeah so when I allow whatever the next thing is for me I didn't know what was gonna be Oppenheimer but I knew six years ago when I went back to acting class that I was like I have bad habits yeah and the teacher you know Vincent and Afrio yeah yeah from he was an SVU right yeah but criminal and he was like had his own yeah long order brilliant actor I remember in 2015 I was eating dinner with him at his house and he and I just said to him I was like an alcoholic who wasn't ready to give up drinking yet but like I was like you know any good a meeting like I looked at Vincent I said you know any good acting teachers and he's like there's one he's like there's only one I was like and she's in LA and you should talk to her and it took me like two more years but I finally went to her and I was like I need I probably have bad habits and I've been lucky to have a lot of success but like I think if I want to do the things that I aspire to and try to at least be able to be in the room with the actors I love probably need to work on that yeah and she was like great and so for years I stood in a black box theater in Venice and got ripped apart yeah against these other actors where I was like wow like this is humiliating and also empowering and so then when that audition for Openheimer came I remember my agent sent it to me and it was a two-page monologue giving a dissertation as a professor about nuclear physics and for an audition yeah two-page monologue yeah that's crazy but it is for Christopher Nolan so and so you just and I remember I put it together and I sent it off and I told my agent I'm like I actually think this was pretty good yeah but I don't book stuff like this so like call me when American pie five is you know like let me know when Zach and Cody's rebooting and they did it on a boat let me know when sweet life on the plane is happening I'll be there that'd be good yeah that's ours sweet life yeah yeah is that us do you mean and Michael yes and yeah I'm only in if Michael but anyway long story short I I send in the audition I'll never forget the two weeks later my agent text where she goes Nolan saw your tape he likes you we're in the hunt hell yeah and you know as an actor like that's just like okay I'm just they always say they like you I've sent this to dad like the dad I never met who had been dead for a couple years up into that point but I'm like I did it dad yeah oh you were souped on you believed it yeah well because it would have been so easy for them to be like yeah yeah yeah was that like was that one of your at the time was that one of your like first auditions that you did and you were like oh like one of the many auditions that you didn't you were like oh yeah this is actually really really good the material or or how I did yeah how you did yeah yeah yeah no I just was like I did good yeah how are you guys every audition especially now that you can self-tape every audition I said I go I could be that I could do that yeah me too and like this is a good tape I think I'm so cocky or whatever I'm so like believe I'm just like how is anyone gonna do this that's how I feel every time I do a tape or go in and do something I'm like no one's gonna do it like this right and then there's like some superstar that gets an offer and you're like oh fuck me you didn't you know what I mean sure that's kind of how I feel but I'm always like and I think I'm pretty much in the mix for everything that I tape or because I'm like the castings always like we love it you know and then
and it's an offer for someone. That's usually what happens with me. - Yeah, the hard thing is when I send in, 'cause it used to be you have to go in the room, and when you go in the room like this was pre-COVID, anything could happen. - Yeah. - I'm not great in the room. - Yeah. - Do you have an awful audition story? Like, do you have a boy one? - Oh my God, I have so many. (laughing) I, oh yeah, I auditioned for something once where it was like took place in the '50s, so they were like, where to the audition, wardrobe that is, you know, reminiscent of the time. And I'm like, I'd like to wear some breathable athletes shirt, and they were like, you should wear a wool shirt and pants. Like a button up dress shirt that they wear in the '50s, and I wore like trousers, dog. And I'm sitting there talking and they were like, you know, we don't really want you to audition right now. Like, we just kind of want to get to know you and like, feel out the energy. I sit there for 55 minutes. No air conditioning, and I'm not sweating in the face, but the body is sweating. - Right. - And I know that I'm sweating, but I'm not quite sure how bad. And so I walk into the bathroom after, and there is a sweat line from top nips down to my navel. I look like a sweaty superhero. Like it was, I was saturated in sweat, and that had been for the last 30 minutes, and no one sitting there. - What would, I mean, I would have been like, dog, are you hot? - Yeah. - Like, let's turn on some air. You seem like you're. - Yeah, in-person auditions are weird. Like, I also think they're kind of weird with it too. They're just like, I don't know. Like, sometimes you're just like, yeah, you guys could be a little more hospitable, I guess. (laughing) Something like that. - Yeah. - Like a poppy soda would be nice. Like, I just throw it from fucking. - Yeah. - To Luke a lake over here, like. - Yeah. - Yeah, something with prebiotics. - All right, guys, we're gonna take a quick break from the episode. We're gonna talk to you about our friends at PrizePix. - Basketball, baseball, and hockey is in full swing right now, so it's obviously not a better time to get into it. - The app is literally so simple. All you do is just pick more or less on a few player stats. - The best part at PrizePix is live in 40 states, and also now available in New York. So, hold my New Yorkers. Get on it. - And you know what, I just found out you can bet on the Oscars, the Grammy. I put a grant on Chalamet Owen. This might not age well. - I will even build a line up with you guys. You could follow our public profiles on the app minus my granny junior, obviously. - And mine's Gianni B. Palo, and you can tell our picks in real time. Now, the boy's got an insane new offer for our listeners. If you play your first $5 line up, PrizePix will give you $50 in free lineups. Win or lose. Come on, what are we doing here? - Now, just use our promo code crew when you download the app. Again, crew, C-R-E-W. - Me? I've been having some real success in UFC and basketball lately. I've been mixing the two together. That's the best part. You could do a fight in UFC and you could do a game in basketball and you could do a hockey game all in one parlay. - You know, I've been keeping it tight, you know, I've been on the basketball wave. But like I said, I'm about to get on the CDL. I'm a cold duty guy. I'm about to make some bank off that, you know what I'm saying? And I'm also about to tell Gianna 1000 on Chalamet. I think it's looking good. - Do you think he's gotten over Michael Bay? - Oh, now I don't know. I don't know. My boy, I don't know. He went crazy on sinners, but. - This is why it's so fun. - Now look. - You love PrizePix. - I might throw them both. - When I lose, you know what I'm saying? (laughing) - Hit our link in description. Play $5, get $50 in lineups. - You can make a pick on what the weather will be. - You can make a pick on how long this ad read is gonna be. PrizePix, we love you, baby. Back to the episode. - So when you went those times without working, what was go, 'cause we've all done, like every actor has done it. Beside Chalamet, which we're on text now. But what was going through your head at those times? You're like, fuck, I don't know if I wanna do this. Did you ever have like a I quit moment? Like did any of that happen? - Oh, I have it every time I get, I don't book something. I'm like, that's it. I was like, that was the one, fucking Law and Order Cleveland was put the knife in my career. - Yeah. - Yeah, bro. But that last thankfully, it lasts for two hours and then somehow the next thing comes a week later and I just am so conditioned. But that's why I feel lucky to have social and all the other things, mostly because it gave me security to start a family and have a wife and kids and that really, as corny as it sounds, like I just, I come home and I'm their dad and that's it. And I feel growing up before there were other ways for people like LA is interesting. Like there used to be guys I would know who would like, live in like one bedroom apartments and they were like in their 40s and they had like done some shit, but not enough. And I would say to them, I'd be like, you know, Anthony, don't you want a wife and kids who are like, when? Like in between pilot seasons? - Right, yeah, yeah. - And I feel really lucky and I think that's what's cool about what we all do, right? Is like that you really, you can engage with the system as much as you want and you can also go right to your audience. - Right. Did you have a trouble dating because of who you were? Was there, did you, like what was that like dating for you at, like before you met your wife or like anyway? - I met my wife when I was 24, so it kind of ended early. - Okay. - What were those years from like 19 when you finished to 24, like, of dating? - This might sound kind of, I don't know how you are in that time where I would date a girl who would, the only thing they would ever, I would be like, this is a bad way to start would they be like, oh, you did a thing? Like, oh, why did people know you? And I would be like, because I'd be like, listen, you could hate what I do, right? I'm like, but if we're a similar age or in the same age range, you know what existed, right? And they'd be like, we didn't have TV where I grew up. I'm like, oh, what's it like being from upstate, you know? You don't have to prove to me you're from Rochester, I get it. But like, that was like the only thing. But no, I didn't expect to meet the person I was gonna marry at 24, like, I'm a metropolitan guy. - Where'd you guys meet at a Halloween party? - Oh, hell yeah. - Yeah. - Wow. - Do you guys have significant others? - Couldn't pay me. - Neither? - Couldn't pay me. - Michael? - Nope. - Why couldn't pay me? - See look, me personally, like, I'm not as opposed to it as G is. But the more me and G talk and like, he gives me, I don't know, he gives me like the way he explains it, it sounds good, like his reasoning and everything. It sounds good. So I'm like, damn, actually I could look, I could look, he fuck with this. But then again, I'm gonna be like, I don't wanna be like 50 and like, have no kids or not have like, nah, you'll be barrel. - I say was suck. - Yeah. - I don't know, didn't, what's his name? Just had, I saw him at the chateau a couple weeks ago. Al Pacino just had a kid, he's like 80. - Bro, I'm not trying to be a 60-year old guy. - You're gonna work at these references. - What? - What? - Shalame, Pacino, God bless you. I hope so. But like, maybe we close down the comparisons a little. - The same, just had three longs, God 12 kids, no wife. - Well, you would wanna be a 60-year-old dad and your kid is like a year old. - Yeah, that's one thing that I don't want, I was obviously for the bit, but like, I don't know, I'm just two in the mix, where I'm just like, oh, all these girls are opportunists. In my opinion. - There, that's the mix you're in though, that's the mix you're in. - Oh, wait, Michael, I've seen every girl you put on her. - I know, I know, it's not about me. (laughing) - We're not talking about that in the movie, this is your part of it. - Michael, I don't see more BBLs in the sheet next to you than an escalator than anyone ever, okay? You're not ending up with opportunists? - Do BBLs smell? - Also, but I know opportunity over here, baby. The only opportunity to get in is some party, chillin' the black truck and take the ass home. Maybe back to market, but mostly home, you know? - Yes, if BBLs smell, Michael, what do you think? - I've never smelled anything. - No. - Yeah. - No, no, no. - I think that's a myth. We should do that in Mythbusters. - What's the ratio now? - So, if you're a single guy, obviously that you guys, you know, powerful entertainment folk, you're interacting with a BBL, what, one in three times five? - I think because of the mix that me and Michael are in, I'd say it's a little higher. - Okay. - And also, we would just chillin' with skillin' baby, too. - Yeah, right. - No one on the office is seeing a BBL of it. - Oh, that's what I mean. - Like, AJ Aput is not going to like-- - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - A strip club with skillin' baby. - BJ Novak's not hanging out with a bunch of BBLs. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Got it. - It's a little more for us. - Yeah, we did just go to a strip club in New York, and I feel like 90% of everyone in the strip club, workers and non-workers had a BBL. At one point, I was like, should I get one? Like, everyone in here has one. - What is that like? Is it odd? Is it great? - It's like fake tits. - Got it. - Okay, now, but look, there's some, there's BBLs that are better than some BBLs, you know what I'm saying? Like, you know, they got the BBLs that are like, you know they like settled in, nice and like squishy and soft, and then they got the other BBLs. They're a little bit rough and tough, you know, not enough bounce to it. It's a lot of specifics that go into the BBLs, but all in all, I say BBL is not too bad. You know, it just depends on how far they went for it. You know, I think the closer they are to home, the better the BBLs that they'd be going, like they'd be going out of the country, and you know what I'm saying? And they come back, look like Roblox characters. (all laughing) She could get wicked sometimes. - Medical tourism. - Have you ever had anything done? - My eyes. - Oh, I've had like eye bags. - No, no, I had eye bags. I remember once this was, I was one of those guys who like at 16 people are like, you get enough sleep last night, and I'm like, there's just my face. - 14 hours. - Yeah, yeah. - I slept more than anyone on Planet Earth last night. - Yeah, I'm on a kid show.
I took a bunch of sleeping pills, it's up for half the day. And I remember, and I always had bags, and then I remember once I was filming this thing in 2020, and the director of photography, like we're in Canada, and I think it was like actually the kindest thing he could have done, but also it was brutal. He was like, you're getting hard to light, I was like, he's like, fuck. But he was like, it's not you, he's like, it's just this pad, like this little bag you have. He's like, they can't cover. He's like, it just, he busy, what he was saying was, you're getting, it's unfair. Right. Like, you're actually not as ugly as you're coming off. And so, I guess that's a nice way to come. That's how I took him. So the sister on my show, Lindsey God bless her, she was like, got the dock for you. And I went in, and it was like, it was a dream. Oh yeah. Best thing ever. It's good for like before the procedure, like, they didn't worry a little bit. I was like, yeah, look, if someone messed up my face where I couldn't do this anymore, they'd be doing me a favor. Yeah. I'm done. That's it. Thank you. My goal is malpractice. Yeah. If I could get a nice 10 to 20 million dollar settlement and leave this stupid business. Oh my God. In a second. That's a bag. First it was low in order Cleveland, and then it was a malpractice that really put this day down. Yeah. Yeah. I went to with Dobrik, like, how did all that start because you were big on on social media before you and Dave started doing because I don't know the timeline as well. I'd started doing vine right. And then that went away and it became Instagram and YouTube and my friend Jason Nash called me out. I'll never forget. It's great. I was just one of them. How are you? And it was a January of 2017 and he was like, I'm working with this kid. I'm shooting with this kid David Dobrik. He loves you. You want to come over and shoot this bit of it like taking an hour and I went and we did this improv and I just remember very much. I just done this show with John Stamos called grandfathered on Fox. Oh yeah. And it was like the very typical like network comedy experience and it was great. I loved him. I was so proud of this show. I was awesome. Hours are awesome. Twenty two episodes. Like everyone, you know, you finished the first season. Everyone's like, we're a family and this is I'll see you for the next decade and they're like, you're canceled. And so how long were the days on the show like that? Oh, well, the only thing better than that is it was a single cam comedy. Oh, I didn't know single cam. I thought it was a sick comedy a little bit or no. No, sitcoms are the best. It's bankers out. It's nine to five. Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes not even like the actors get there. It's like 11 or four. Oh yeah. Sometimes it's like amazing. That's the dream. It's the best. Yeah. But I remember I was like, you know, just again, in one of those moments I was like, oh, it just sucks to have no power. Yeah. And so he calls me. We do this improv. And I was like, and it goes up the next morning. Right. And I was like, and it was just very creative. Yeah. Like, we're pitching jokes to each other. We're writing as we're doing it. And all it required was a light and a, you know, a DSLR camera. Yeah. Dave's so incredible at what he does. Yeah. And behind the scenes and doing it like the way that he set up his friend group where like each person has a specific bit and they lean into themselves more like the way he does it. It's just kind of genius. Like, yeah, I really commend him for what he's built. What about maybe you, you're Michael, you stream next week, we see you in a stream. We've logged a little bit. We've, um, streaming is a lot of, we've, we've, we've had DDG in here. You know who that is? He's like one of the bigger streamers. It's like him, Kaisen at speed. Like he's one of those guys. Where's Kaisen at? Is he pulling a chappelle? What is he doing, Michael? You're, you're tight with Kais? I haven't spoken to Kais in the ages, bro. You know, he's probably pulling a chappelle, but he's like, he's been on like, he's been on some other shit, you know what I'm saying? Like he, he went through the whole girlfriend thing and now he's like, he's doing his clothing line. Like, he's kind of like stepping away from like the streaming. I think I haven't seen him on a stream in forever. I think he's like, I think he's really tuning into like the fashion and he's actually like, really like stepping into it. You know what I'm saying? Like fashion week and like Milan and France and all that shit. He's like really trying to put his clothing line like out there. So that's really like the last scene I heard. Yeah. I feel like he's made enough money to be like, like Chappelle, like I don't need any of this, you know? Yeah. But I think the streaming is, um, you have to be so consistent and it's more work than being an actor. 100%. Yeah. Because you're IRL streaming walking around like 9, 10 hours a day, you go and to even make any money or build it, DDG was saying because he was on like a month ago, he was saying you have to do it every day. You have to be consistent. You have to talk. And you got to keep finding ways to stay entertaining every single day. You could do it. You could do the same thing, but so much like, you know, but so many times, yeah, like you got it literally on every day somewhere and bring the friends for a vacation. It's every week. Even with Dave. Like you see Dave. Now he's vlogging again like because I just worked out at his gym this morning. Like I'm at his house and and like Ilia and him are like, Oh, where are you guys going? They're like, Oh, we're flying a Temecula to just go film this bit. And I'm like, Temecula, you could drive there in 45, but like it's just so much movement. Like they just went to Valley. They just went to Finland. Like they're just always in the move and it's like, it's a commitment. So I love being an actor and I love this. Yes. I like the podcast because me and Mike get to see each other every week regardless. We have people who like, I don't know if we ever would have maybe met. But like, I think that's also the coolest thing for me is like getting to ask my favorite people your top three favorite actors growing up like my whole life questions that I've always wanted to ask them. Like, that's why this is a passion for me as opposed to like, I think streaming is just like a way to get cheap money if I were to do it. Does that make sense? But I also give you a Michael so much credit because like, there are plenty of good actors like you guys who could who would wilt in this environment. Right. This is well. You mean? Yeah. Yeah. Like they could never have a pod as big and as good as you guys have created, right? Like it just, it takes an extra level. Like, I know so many people who plenty of actors have worked with like in the hands of the writer, like between action and cut, like, God, are they magnetic? And the moment that camera turns off, I'm like, you're a ghoul. I know. Like, I'd never want to do that. And who is that, Josh? Tell us who. No. So many. I will. And it's usually never mind. Most of them. I will say sometimes I'll meet on them, like, you're an entertainer. Like, that's a good point because I'm like, like, really? That's what we're doing. Yeah. Whether you're an actor, this is that, I'm just like, you just book something and it worked out for you. Realistically, that's how I feel about some actors. I'm like, 'cause there's zero way that you like are, there's no, there's no, it factored, there's no like that. Like, you're entertaining. You're funny. Like, you have the thing. And sometimes I meet people and I'm like, I cannot believe they get paid gobs of money to do this. But isn't it interesting, though, that between action and cut, there's something about them. Yeah. You watch it through the frame. Like, it's good at what they do. Like, certain models you meet and in life, like, I'm like, you're kind of a Picasso. Yeah. You know, like, it's kind of, but then all of a sudden you walk away from it a little and they're photographed. I'm like, wow. Yeah. Who knew those shadows would look like that. Yeah. You know, you look at me. You go like, that's, you know, Sears. Right. That's a painting at home goods, right? Yeah. Like, good enough to put up your house. But you're not proud of it. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Looking but the photograph happens. You're like I get it. Yeah, yeah, some of the like this actually. Yeah, I don't you mean Come on you guys know that just come on. We escalate last night. Yeah, who was you have an escalator and IQ the electric you should see that now I would never ever in the city. Where do you live? I live in Jersey? I live in New Jersey. Okay. Okay, you can of course some out the way a little bit I'm a little bit out the way I could drive he's a car guy. He's got the porches the Audi R8's the he's got it all the BMW I'll never get an electric car in my life ever couldn't pay me Wow, I mean, you know if Elon wants to send over the deal then maybe it's a different story But couldn't pay me to get it. You me Elon Al Pacino all of us What do you like to spend your money on? I'm not I'm you know, I grew up really broke Yeah, and so I know everyone thinks I was like born in it in that of green slime at Nickelodeon studio We're building the ultimate comedic character Emphasary That's top three moments in my life. I will say that right there It literally just happened. I'm glad it's on camera. I Don't know it's only I'm bad. It's many money because I'm just in such a scarcity fear place But like I'm I have a great house and I live by the beach. So I feel very lucky for that and I've always had a Nice car, but like now I got a Tesla that was because I'm obsessed with the deal Yeah, and Elon was running good deals in December. I'm like, I'll do that not that a Tesla's not a great car But it's like they are great cars and they are show cheap. It's accessible Yeah, and you're driving on Tesla people are like, oh, he's broke. It's just like oh, it's a Tesla's sick. It's just great Yeah, it's good all around my wife. We got a charge. It takes forever to charge Yeah, but he got a crib. He just pulls up to the crib plugs it in goes all night But yeah, but my wife has like a land row a defender. So she's the one How about who which one of the boys has that on time again. Yeah, yeah, no, but I'm I probably know who yeah, he's like the Irish actor He's been an gladiator and everything his name is chibs in in sons of anarchy, but Legendary actor he had one of those because he pulled up
When I had my portion he was calling my car a mom car and he pulls up in a defender. I'm like, come on brother What are you talking about here? I mean the defender is low key of that's Yes a big boy. What about Mike? What about you in the two door defender? That's what I see you in Yes, I could do I could get with that. I could get with that to the ultimate defender with the eight Yeah, give me give me right me. I'll make a satin black dude He's driving around New York City with with the biggest female rappers in his green porch 9/11 like he's this Turbo west. He's good. What do you do? So because I'm such a dad So how are we parking that in the city, right? You get there Saturday night at 10 o'clock You got you got to put it in the garage. He threw it up on the curb at this trip club the other night What do you do? Sometimes, you know, you got to look for a nice nice little Hyder maybe that's okay Michael's speaking truth to power like quite literally because my boy the grape end software of the good guys podcast he says and he drives in the city he goes you if you want your life to be good driving a car in the city You have to be okay rolling the dice for a ticket 100% and if it only happens one in every five times Yeah, you want and you're paying like what I'm gonna pay like was 60 like maybe like 60 50 bucks at least Hydrant ticket is like a hundred I think it's like a hundred like 120. Yeah, gamble I'll gamble. I'll pay double for the convenience because you if you find a garage most likely It's like seven minutes from where you're actually going and you got a walk after you park it Then you got to worry about them like park and mad other cars and you know nicking the car Maybe like you know like I'll just I'll take my chances, you know, I'm saying I park legally everywhere I go Yeah, I take my chance as a bro in New York sometimes you just you can't care too much, but I can't care too much We'll get last couple and then we'll get you out. No, take your time. Um, so would have you shown your well How old are your kids if you want to disclose you don't have to there's seven three and ten months They're too young for a dragon job. My seven-year-old has seen it. I would did you like it? Yeah, it's funny I was dropping him off at camp one day and I saw heard some of the counselors mean like oh My son looks and goes and Oppenheimer That's my fucking Son yeah, that's my fucking guy Christopher Nolan ever hurt. Yeah What no, we went to a party cuz like there's so many of us in the movie right so they had like a very nice party It's oh house after and then Christopher and killing a new obviously one came to the party after and I got to like do the quick This is my wife. Yeah, so I've very I felt very much like I got to at least show her hell yeah, give her a taste Would you ever let your kids or do they have interest in acting or anything not? I would never let them do it professionally really there before they're 18. Oh, there's no upside. Yeah Because if you started 13 your kid actor if you wait four years and have like a real life and a real upbringing and Go to high school, which will be beautiful things for you to pull from as an artist, right? You could even start at 17, but you're not a kid actor and yeah, so you don't have to deal with all that bullshit Yeah, Michael's been on power since he was 11 or 12 Wow, but he's he was he was acting since he was a young he's a kid actor too And like what he said though like going to high school and like being able to pull from now I feel like that would that would have made me better as an artist as well like just cuz I'd never been to school The day like I was like always on school, but I will get to your credit Michael like Michael lived at his childhood house in Staten Island up until two three years ago So he's like like realistically when the spin-off happened is really when he probably was like The most famous like original power maybe season six when like you know, I think but like He got super famous like that year of that first year that spin-off and I remember because I would just fly in in New York Because I live in LA or fly New York to shoot the show and and I would be like Oh, so are you like I'll say he's like no like I just like live at home in Staten Island I'm just around my normal friends great. So that was kind of you kind of like your whole life right Michael So you have a normal it's weird like being an actor in New York is I think a lot different than being in the mix It's better cuz it's not the only industry right right? Yeah, but you could speak better like a lot of sports too Like I played a lot of sports growing up like when I had like all time from like acting I was always playing like basketball before I started acting I was playing football a lot So like I've made like a lot of friends do that you know like the camaraderie of just like being on a team and just like Going to practice and just you know being an athlete, but I'll definitely say like just experience in high school like Definitely like is a lot like you said it's a lot to pull from cuz like you're kind of like I want to say on your own at that point But like you know, you're kind of like you think you're a grown You know, I'm saying like you then you think you could like handle a lot of stuff that comes your way and then like you know Experiences like that are kind of what like we could pull from so I would say high school is definitely a good good place to be It's cool to that you were sort of your rearing your developmental years was on a show like power Because when you do the kind of stuff that I did which was very typical kid actor fair you get bad habits You know, and they're great habits if you only do that right, but I think also. Yeah, yeah, sorry But like you said like when you said you you went to acting classes like what was it five years or six years ago? Yeah, and um, yeah, I just went I just went to I couldn't class probably like like two or three weeks ago And um, and I also was like wow, I have some bad habits too, and I was like I was just talking to the teacher I'm like yo like obviously like I'm blessed to have the success I have but like I have kind of like you know I kind of have a skill that I want to continue to build on rather than just being stuck in those bad habits that I have and he was like You know, that's exactly why we're here. So yeah, you always have better even childmaking get better like people can get better like I think it's a It's an ever changing because you have so many different things that you have to do it's an ever changing thing in my opinion But also to speak on the on the bad habits of like maybe being a child actor going out also like if me and Michael Which we've done some dumb shit we're getting a call from 50 cent being like cut it to fuck out which we've gotten before Wow, are we not oh, yeah, 100% we don't you like yo, you're my little man, but got a chill We have never gone too crazy. We're like we'll be in Miami something something happened and 50 will hear But like he'll hear in an hours and we'll get a call and the thing is like stuff would happen and I'll be like I don't know if I'm gonna tell if he did this happen and then like we'll be chilling Yeah, what happened to movie travel? I'm like, oh, I'm like you don't look. Yeah, you see you see 50 on the phone We're like fuck we're still I am you like no Hey, but even aside from that though like just like bad habits even like on screen or like Why you're in character and stuff like that? I realized that when I when I went to the to when I went to that class I'm like damn like I'm I'm doing this certain thing a lot like I'm doing this thing a lot like How to fuck do I break out doing this like it's like a comfort thing like you know saying like I got to get like I think right now in stage. I might I got to get comfortable with being uncomfortable in power, bro Like obviously we've been on the show for so long It was just super comfortable being in those characters and like certain things. I just got used to doing so Now it's time to get about it out, you know do some crazy shit I'm I think maybe 50 cent is the greatest friend one could have yeah Hearing from you guys and the worst enemy one could 100% with I mean even when we get in shit We call him. We're like 50 this happened. He's like all right when he takes care of it. He'll take care of it Like that's a kind of guy. I just love him and I you guys have seen that that are you spears? Yes, yeah, impression of him and I'm like and that's awesome, but here's the thing Josh to bring this all back together in a bow 50 I'm gonna put you So it all worked out Hilary Duff 50 we did it. That's good. No, no, no Don't point at yourself point at me when you say Hilary Duff. He said he's good He said it himself He's gonna get me into it. No, no, never we got to make that happen Mike. I see us really This is the new gee Wow, we made it guys so so you have the podcast. Yes, you're podcasting you're on season two of cross. Yes, you're shooting that now We're done. It's it's out. Oh, it just premiered the whole thing. They put it all out already I can see a couple clips of it coming out. How was that great? It was an honor a lot of those guys been rockin to creator of it He's family with a lot of guys. I've worked with and so it's great to be with him and obviously I'll just Touch great actor. I love that. Yeah, yeah, he's such a solid dude and his brother Edwin who's also a great actor who's on I think Matlock right now. He's guest star, but he's been on TV forever We did I did this movie red dawn a remake with Chris Hemsworth. Were we played brothers? Do you play Chris Hemsworth brother? I know because casting casting was like these two I was like are you guys well? Can you see you me? But you got the eye back. That's what they were like him. That was it. Yeah, but I work with Edwin on that and so it's cool It's all full circle and yeah cross and the good guys podcasts love to have you both on oh be great It would be an honor. Yeah, everywhere.
