surreal no if i'm being honest for me it's i mean i've i mean i'm like how did this happen you know what i mean it's a different thing for me because you know i don't have your background i don't have it's still kind of cool to me yeah no it's it's cool i'm not i'm not downplaying i'm not i'm not being nonchalant man as the kids say however um what is cool is like netflix hasn't always done this and like we all love netflix we all love it right um so to see it there and then like have our you know the kids and and just different people across the country who maybe didn't know about our show yeah it's up on their so so that part is really really cool and and i know we're all working hard to continue to try to grow this thing right the funny part is my printer is now working and most people would stop down because we're taping this i'm not going to i want everyone to hear the because i've been trying to print my notes for like 45 minutes and now all of a sudden we start the show and now the printer is going to work and i'm not going to get up and go get it i'm doing the show without the notes forget it um john matier fascinating situation loved him in washington state an absolute wild man um transfers to oklahoma didn't go as planned last year the thumb injury well documented we'll get into all of it now he's got he's got another shot at this thing a full season healthy adjusted arm angle adjusted throwing motion what are we going to get from him then trinidad chambliss these are two just fascinating stories both guys around six feet neither guys like the tallest quarterback the biggest but they're both thickly built materials a fullback in his lower body yes both both mobile both have some speed both running threats both just rip the freaking football man you want to watch some guys that have no fear to rip it into a tight window these are two guys trinidad chambliss and john matier um and chambliss coming in from from ferris state lightly recruited lightly 40-something ranked quarterback in the transfer portal why lane kiffin's kind of got his choice of a bunch of them but he also had a starter there right and so with austin simmons who winds up getting injured trinidad gets an opportunity so while everyone wants to go play for lane most people most quarterbacks would they're also like if i transfer in i might wind up being austin simmons backup so it was a tricky spot so lane had to hand pick a guy that he thought would want this opportunity that could play outplay like like through the stratosphere what the ranking was by some you know some of these up-and-coming uh recruiting scouting services for the the transfer portal right and he goes on to have the season that he does let's dive right into it because these two guys are like we we did arch versus dante we had like julian saying versus car you arch and dante like who's number one say in car like these big time blue blood programs uh we've got the athletes that have explosive players with sorsby versus sellers this one's intriguing because what's going to happen in year two at this stop they both play the game with just no fear reckless abandon right know we watched a lot of them in season last year because of what oklahoma and all miss respectively were doing in terms of the college football playoff race but when you had free kind of free of mind draft isn't impending we don't have games each week and you just sit down and watch the tape on both these guys give me your biggest takeaway i i'll kind of reiterate what you just said in that i love both of these players i love watching them play i love how competitive they are the tape was was really fun to watch i'll say that but i am far more optimistic about one of them as an nfl prospect and it was not the player i expected it to be going into into this process really that's a that's a good hook because as you started to say i'm far more intrigued by one of them or interested in one of them i had one of them very clear in mind for me okay and then you and then you said but it might not be the guy that you think so i'm interested to see if it really is a curveball yeah um my biggest takeaway you ready for this it's kind of random and it's very specific my biggest takeaway man is and i i said it several times during our pre-draft lead up you know to the 2026 draft that the best individual tape of any player in that class in my opinion was fernando mendoza indiana's offense specifically what mendoza did in that big 10 championship game against ohio state right and and there's no need to do apples to apples comparison but what i'm telling you right now is my biggest takeaway from watching both of these guys and there were a lot of takeaways that we'll get to but the number one thing that stood out to me is that old miss versus georgia game that tape of trinidad chan chambliss the playoff game the playoff sorry the playoff game correct of the this is now the ninth and tenth quarterbacks we've done in the building the board series right that's the best tape i've seen of any of these 10 quarterbacks that one tape and it also was late in the season and it gives you and it was without lane kiffin pulling the strings as the play caller that tape made me go huh because if this is the guy we're getting for 12 to 15 16 games next year something in like like that this thing could get real interesting right because and you look at scouting services and how champ how high chambliss is on some of those boards we reached out to nfl scouts and chambliss was always in like the top five or six quarterbacks when they were texting us back before the way too early mock draft talk to some of the all-star games that chambliss is viewed i think a lot higher as an nfl prospect by some of the other teams that we've seen in the last couple of years some then maybe the public would think and then i go to the manning passing academy and this means zero percent in the scouting evaluation i was kind of stunned as we watched different reactions from all the high school campers and some of the adults there on the other side of the stands on the friday night lights the most beloved player of all those great quarterbacks from across the country was trinidad chambliss this guy's got a chance to have a pretty special year is i guess what i'm getting to here even without Lane Kiffin. Let's get into it, man. Strengths. Start with Mateer or Chambliss, wherever you want to go. Well, I'll start with Chambliss, and I'm going to repeat a couple of things you just said, but I think it's worth putting it all together, okay? And the biggest strength for Chambliss, and it's a big part of our show, is the onions. The onions on this kid to go from being a one-year starter at Division II Ferris State. He was at Ferris State, by the way, and he won a national championship there, but he only started for one year. It wasn't like he was this guy who was lighting a fire for three years. It's important to say that at Ferris State, he redshirted and had to overcome a serious respiratory illness, right? And that's the why. It's not like he kind of sucked and then came out of nowhere. He was dealing with something, man. And so when he got his shot, it's like, here he goes, national championship, right? But to your point, it wasn't like three years starting at Ferris State. It was one year that Lane saw and plucked him. Correct. So he goes, now he ends up and he goes to Ole Miss and he's going to be the backup. So you wonder when you're in that situation, what's your mindset? Are you ready to, are you really ready to go if you get your call? If you get the call and he was right, his third start, he leads LSU, I mean, Ole Miss to a win over LSU. I mean, that's just a game that, you know, historically Ole Miss isn't going to win that game, but he leads him to a win. Then you go into Georgia, I think it's two or three weeks later and we get the feeling of maybe, maybe there's some cracks here that are getting revealed. Remember in that game, Ole Miss got up. Oh, that fourth quarter was brutal. That fourth quarter was brutal. And it felt like it just fell apart at the end. And maybe this is it. Well, guess what? Next week he goes into Oklahoma. They have a nine point lead at halftime. Oklahoma scores 17 points in the third quarter. Uh-oh, you're on the road. This is going to be a problem. This is really where the wheels fall off. Nope. He settles everything down, has a big fourth quarter, leads Ole Miss to a win in that game. And then you just look, how the rest of the season unfolds. Lane Kiffin leaves at the beginning of the playoff run. No problem. He played some of his best football in those three games. And you mentioned the Georgia game. That is not a game that you would think LSU would win. Georgia doesn't lose those games. And you can't tell me the champ. No, Georgia doesn't lose those games. And Georgia did lose to Ole Miss. That's what I mean. Yeah. Georgia is that historic power. It's fine. Go ahead. Okay. So Georgia doesn't lose those games. I'm just interrupting you and being a pain in the ass. That's all I'm doing. It's fine. It's fine. I get it. I'm on a roll. They don't lose those games. He finds a way to win that game for them, right? Then you look at the Miami game. They lose that game. He is the play that defines this young man, I think, is the go-ahead 24-yard touchdown with less than four minutes against Miami in the playoff game. And he sees Keontae Scott, this kid who's not even six feet tall from Ferris State, wasn't going to start at the beginning of the year, sees Keontae Scott. And he sees Keontae Scott creeping up for the safety blitz and points at him, waves him on, says, all right, big boy, I know you're coming. Come on. And then throws an absolute dime to his tight end for a 24-yard touchdown. And you can leave it at that if you wanted to because we know what happens next. Miami just rolls down the field and scores and they end up winning the game. Yeah, but they score with 18 seconds left. You might forget. You might forget that he gets him down to the 35-yard line and gives them a chance to win that game. Two throws. It's clearly pass interference, but no one, no one's going to call it. I get that. Two throws. Go ahead, Todd. Two throws, 40 yards. He leads them down the field and they're absolute rockets. Laser blitz. Never out of it, man. With this kid, you feel like you're never out of it. Onions, onions, onions. And by the way, you can even add to it. Oh, everyone's telling me, and I was with you, McShay. I'm not going to, I'm not being critical of you. Everyone's telling me like, give up the, give up the fight. You're not going to get another year. Just give up the fight. Just go to the NFL. He's like, no, I, we got this. I'm going to get this. Yeah. We're going to get that injunction. We're going to be able to go back. I'm going to bet on myself doing this. This is the right path for me. And I believe it's the right thing to do. And he does it. And it is. It got scary because there was a moment there where, where it looked like he wasn't going to win the injunction and he had missed the senior bowl. He was going to miss the combine. And like, I was worried about him. And it was like, is he going to try to jump in late to this draft? Roughly so. So, so unsure. In fact, I got this information late. I was sent an original copy from an NFL team directly of the, of the combine and each position group prior to the, prior to the combine as an NFL team, you are sent by the, it's called NIS, the National Scouting Service, right? You're sent the list of each, each position, the players, like it'll be QB one, QB two, all the way down to QB 15, let's say. And it's all by alphabetical, right? Guess who was in there? And then scratched off because he had just, was Trinidad Chambliss. He was so, so much so that the NFL just prior to the combine was like, we're, we're expecting, he's going to be here, you know? So anyway, that whole, his whole, I hate the word journey in today's day and age, but his whole path, man. Yeah. Has, has been like a Disney movie, right? And like the words like swagger and, and aura, I hate all of them. They're all like, you could use them with this kid though. I mean, he's just different. He has a level of confidence. And I wrote, yeah, he has a level of confidence. There were a couple moments where things started to fall apart and you could see him be like, no. And that you talked about the, so let's get into his traits a little bit, right? He is listed by one of the scouting services as 5'1", 1'7", so essentially six foot, but five, five 11 and seven eighths of an inch. So he is a quote unquote undersized quarterback. I mean, we've seen Russell Wilson. We've seen Bryce Young. We've seen a lot of guys right around that all the way back to Drew Brees, like right around that, that six foot range or shorter. Right. So it's not, it's not what it used to be, especially when you bring some mobility movement in the pocket, fine passing windows, extend, get us all that stuff. But he isn't the tallest quarterback, right? So that's not, it's not like a debilitating knock, but it's not, it's not a plus on his scouting report. He's listed like 208. I, I just saw him in person. I'd be shocked if you put them on a scale right now, if he's not 215. And I always say that because I like my shorter, like Jaden Daniels, he isn't short, but he concerns me with the durability when you got that lean linear frame, right? Just about durability long-term same with Bryce Young. Okay. So he he's, he's thicker, right? I like, I like his, his bill for whatever, that's worth it. Got him listed at four, six, five. I actually think he's faster, but, but it seems like all of these 40 times for whatever it's worth are a little conservative with quarterbacks. I here's what I appreciate him when we're appreciate about him. When we're talking about his strengths, the obvious is, and there's no two plays are more. If you had, if you're like McShay, give me two plays to show me what you're talking about. I'd say, all right, go to go to the Georgia game, 1452. And then 1452. 12, fourth quarter, right. And in terms of his ability to extend instincts, creativity, throwing on the run, all that stuff. Though like the one, remember he kind of, he rolls out a little to the right. He circles back to his left on the run, shows a little touch, throws it in there to his receiver, picks up the first down. Then the next one is kind of rolling to his right and drills one. They were kind of legendary plays for him, right? But you see it throughout his tape. So he's got that element of creativity, extending some magic, right? As a passer, my gosh, man, like he just fucking rips the ball. He doesn't have a conscious guys like that scare me. They are deadly assassins. He does like, he knows what he can't. Some guys too. Overestimate what they have in terms of ball a to B where I can get it. I don't see a lot of that. I see some misses. I see, and we'll get to some of his weaknesses. So let's focus on the strikes, but he fits the ball into some windows, drives it down the field, his deep ball accuracy. I want to touch on that and the weaknesses too, in a little bit, but the placement, even though the trajectory could change sometimes some of the ways he can play. He plays like outside shoulder receiving receiver still in bounds, but leads him like to catch and go out of bounds safe away from the defender. They're spectacular. Um, yeah, like you think about those NFL throws, you have to make against tight man coverage and he has the confidence in the ability to put it in front of the receiver where that he can go to the ball where some other guys use some of these college schemes. You see these receivers are wide open. You're not going to get it. You're not going to get as much of that in the, in the NFL. And he's a guy who's going to, he's in some of it's his timing to me. Some of it is, it's so I love his release, by the way. Can I just say that? I know we're going to get into a problem with it in a minute, but he's compact over the top. He can change his angle if he needs to so quick. And so he's the modern, he's the modern day quarterback who, who like, it doesn't matter six, six foot or six, four. He very clearly like his, his worked with the, the right people hip, torque short stride everything's compact yep it's you know it's like a firing range with this kit yeah and i say when you do that when you're 23 years old you know what i mean when your brain is quick to react you have that that release and then you're accurate you can throw into some really tight windows against zone looks you can you can get uh take advantage of the single coverage even if a guy's right there like it's it's impressive the release the ball explodes off his hand and it's it's from that hip the hip torque that he generates and like you said yeah it's this combination i'm just going to reiterate what you just said it's this combination of fast eyes decisiveness confidence in what he's seeing confidence also in what he what he knows he can throw and then it all is like you know it's like fat it's out yeah it's just out and defending that and energy and energy late so those are all the positives how about how about matier his positives uh i will go i'll be kind of specific here i think it's his power base and i think it's both as his ability to expend extend plays within the pocket i mean he can shake off guys who look like they have deader rights and extend plays uh i think also as a runner he is a guy that in short yardage and goal line situations is someone you have to be aware of because of his ability to break tackles and and um push the pile in short yardage situations he also as a runner is instinctive and he can make guys miss so like maybe it's his running ability i will go more specifically about his power base and without getting too much into the negatives right here if he's on if he's able to unlock his footwork he might have he might have the most energy on the ball as a passer in this class yeah i i'd be remiss if i didn't start with with john mature and his strengths like i want him in my foxhole man yes oh yeah both of these cats like you tell me we're going like we got a fight in the alley and unfortunately we're stuck in this situation and i can grab two of these guys i'm not saying over anybody else i'm just saying like you give me matier and you give me chambliss the way they compete like their undying effort their their inability to give up on them and they're not going to give up on them they're not going to give up on something correct i mean go ahead no business playing in that texas game i mean no business after he he breaks his thumb against auburn and misses kent state the next week and then tries to come back against texas there are some throws on that that that texas tape is tough to watch because you see a human being who's just trying to do everything he can and his body's not reacting the way that he he wants it to and he's just gutting it out trying to make plays and it's really affected in the second half of the season i would say but he has no business playing against texas but he wasn't going to miss it he could not miss it the things that lane has said to me about and publicly too about about trinidad as a human confidence picking up things football intelligence and just like the love he had still has but you know what i mean as his head coach and then talking specifically to naggy about um about matier and who he is as a human and what he believes in and the team first and and just the toughness that you see on tape but we're not in the building like both these guys have have the makeup that you're dying to get in your quarterback right any position quite frankly but but especially at that position um i think matier shows fast eyes at times i think you know working with arbuckle his offensive coordinator who came with him from washington state has allowed like he understands where where the reeds are what he's looking at um he thrives in turbulence he he's the pilot that like gets bored on the on the the flight from the laguardia to logan flight you know we're up in the air smooth flight he's doing the flyby as a top gun he's just gonna buzz the tower yeah he gets bored as hell with that stuff which we can get to weaknesses in a little bit yeah he loves the flight from from miami to boston or from from new york to la when you're going over the mountains or you're dealing with southern storms and you're weaving in and out and you're dropping 10 000 like he loves he's the type of guy who's gonna fly into the hurricane with the right plane and get a reading for us you know what i mean yeah and and that's the stuff i talked about with like jackson dart coming off of josh allen like mahomes there are certain guys that just seem like they're like their blood pressure doesn't rise they're not going to be able to fly they're not going to be able to fly they're more calm in that chaos um i'm actually surprised at his tape is littered with brilliant throws but it's also littered and we'll get to it but but it's worth mentioning it's also littered with errant off target throws that don't need to be right and because of the footwork stuff which i think is important but let's just lay it out now at the manning passing academy i was very hesitant to like i don't like i'm coming back from the manning passing academy john matier has changed his throwing motion his releases is a little bit more compact and a little bit lower with as all the quarterbacks are doing now his the hip torque the consistency the repetitive stroke that i'm seeing from matier is what i'm seeing from these 1400 robots that are all going to the same coach type style camp uh that my my uh 11 year old son before practice they get the balls and the the weighted balls in their hands they're they're doing this and then when they're done with that they get on a knee and they throw up against the fence and when they're done with throwing against the fence that that weighted ball they stand up and they do this throw right and and they're all working the same mechanics now and i think it's a great thing for the future of the quarterback position matier wasn't matier was throwing like a 1980s asshole like me he reminds me of this he reminds me of a second baseman who was always trying to turn to he always wants the he wants the ball out of his glove and he's trying to whip it to first base as as fast as possible mechanics technique be damned don't care just trying to make a play and i always found it remarkable how much energy he gets on the ball because so much of it is upper body but he has this weird way when like the back i don't know like he i could sit here and give you he locks his hip which really prevents him from like yeah so if he's getting that much velocity and he's making these brilliant throws with his lower but i went back to my my um my notes from last year which i did print in advance because they're from last year pre-season and i remember i wrote this um he needs like arbuckle coming with him is a great thing familiarity the system the success they've had but i remember you and i specifically talking last season when we did something similar to this quarterback series but this is more refined and a much better way to do it that that my hope is that matier has drilled his footwork and has worked diligently to play within the structure and patience of an offense like i talked over and over again about how it was a great thing that that his coordinator is coming but i hope he's working with somebody else because it's not necessarily a college offensive coordinator's job to get that refinement that repetitive motion that was the biggest thing my takeaway like i love so much about his his game but if he could just get a more repetitive motion that more compact hip torque driving it in like all these other young quarterbacks are doing now he could be a he could get more energy on the ball which like wasn't even really a concern but b and most importantly hit the spots that he needs to hit yes the layups when they're there he was like a river he's a riverboat gambler as a passer which is awesome at times but it's like maddening at other times when he's missed i watched that ill and i went back this morning man and that illinois state game because i hadn't watched that because i watched the michigan i watched the auburn i saw the other ones in the middle of the season but they weren't helpful at all i watched alabama they weren't alabama he had a little time to rest and he looked a little bit more like himself but still wasn't totally himself so i'm like you know what there's a tape out there i haven't seen let me see it was underwhelming illinois state was underwhelming there were just a lot of misthrows easy stuff so i'm placement issues and yeah i don't want to put too much emphasis on this because i told you like my golf swing i have a great plan until we're on like and maybe two holes i and then i get into a tough spot in the third hole and it's a mess i've actually even started working on my throwing motion because i'm throwing more passes now than i even think i was in high school and college because i got a young comeback he's a junkie and so i'm always throwing the ball and i'm watching the way they're they're drilling it i'm talking to alex mclaughlin with m2qb and i'm going to manning passing academy my car let's get this out and i'm actually going to say save some strain on my aging arm and now all of a sudden like my arm doesn't hurt after throwing a thousand balls you know so i'm excited to see what he does with this but i also don't want to put too much emphasis on it because if he comes out and it's kind of the same old thing it's the same old thing all right let's get to week go ahead sorry i'll just say like when he throws over the middle it's it is a a roller coaster because he misses high so much one other thing i'll say that was tough for me was evaluating my golf swing because it's a roller evaluating when you watch him later in the year, the accuracy is tough to evaluate I just think at that point, the injury, I mean, it exasperated what was already, the issues that were already there. I would also say, I would also say some of the decision-making stuff. It reminded me a little bit of someone who gets put in a corner. So we're on weaknesses now. I'm talking about Mateer still. Yeah. Yeah, but when he's put in a corner and you're kind of a wounded animal at that point, you start to do things that you wouldn't normally do if you're 100% right. And I think it affected his decision-making as well as his accuracy. I think he's like, I'm not throwing as well over the middle, so I'm going to try to make a play with my feet, or I'm going to try and drive a ball downfield into coverage. It was tough because I felt like it was kind of a wash at that point. So he's another player that you take what you can out of that tape. And we watched him at Washington State two years ago, and some of the hole balls that he was throwing, he was making some outrageous throws at Washington State. Before the injury, he was. That canic crosser that he throws against Michigan. The canic makes a one-hand catch, but quite frankly, if he had just stayed with his angle, it's a perfect ball, like thrown from off-platform, even though it didn't need to be off-platform because that's just the way he throws. And it's like over a linebacker, before the safety, leads him perfectly up the, like, beautiful. And then he comes right back to Satania down the right rail. Beautiful ball, a cover-two beater. And it's, like I said, it's littered with brilliant throws, but it's also littered with unnecessary off-target throws. Like, he threw a pick against Illinois State. It's like 21-3 in that game. And if Illinois, I mean, granted, Oklahoma's defense is one of the best in the country, so it was understandable, but it's 21-3 in the third quarter, man. He throws a pick. We don't need that. Yeah. The Mateer moments is the other aspect, now that we're into the weaknesses. I'm interested to see, with like refined motion, second year SEC, going back, rinse, refine, repeat. Like this should be the best of Mateer, in terms of decision making. We talk about that. That delicate balance of, I am exceptional in chaos, and I'm an absolute trained killer, when things aren't right, and I can create, I can improv, right? But I also got to learn that these mistakes I'm making, here and there, are debilitating to my team. And I got away with it more at Washington State, but I ain't here. And we're going to be a really good defensive team. And hopefully for Oklahoma's sake, they run the football a little bit better. I have a role within this offense, that is first and foremost. And then my role expands when something's not there, and I use my proper judgment on when to be Mateer, and be a wild man. But also when to dial it back, pick up three, throw it away, take a sack, whatever I got to do. So yeah, those are the two things. It's the mechanics, the repetitiveness of his stroke, in order to be more consistent with the placement. And then it's the dialing back of some of those critical errors. They're unnecessary. They're unnecessary. And I just love the guy so much. I love the way he plays. I pull for guys like this. I'm not going to shy away from it. I really do. Why would you? You can have favorites as long as you recognize the bias, and it doesn't affect your final grade. I hate when people are like, oh. It's Herm Edwards, man. The way he always does. He's always told his players, everyone's getting treated fairly when it comes to grading, evaluating, all that. And you'll see when I give you my grade on Mateer. Everyone's getting treated fairly, but maybe not equally when I'm watching on a Saturday. And it doesn't mean I'm pulling for Oklahoma. I'm not. I just want to see the best of him, just like I want to see the best of Chambliss, and Sayen, and Carr, and Hart. I really do. But some guys are extra fun to watch because I know there's some special stuff in there. But I also want to see him get smarter. I want to see him engage in more game experience, and this opportunity at Oklahoma is an awesome one because they're building a great program there. They've got it all in line. We've got Cetania coming back, and I want to see him have a big year. And honestly, who doesn't want to see the best of this prospect? I want all these 10 guys we've done so far, and we're going to continue. I want, because that creates an awesome environment when we lead up to the draft, and it creates an amazing season in college football, right? All right. Chambliss. We glazed him. I don't know why I can't get over using that term. It's whatever. It's funny to me, but he's imperfect, just like the rest of us. Of course, what are the what weakness stands out or well, I mean, the height, the height is an issue. I want to make sure I got the number right here. According to PFF, according to PFF, 16, he had 16 passes batted down. So there is. You know, as much as I like to release, it is a lower point just because of his height. So that's an issue. And then you hit on it, too. There's these occasional, like almost inexplicable misses every once in a while on throws that I see him make that he should be making in his sleep. And he makes four out of five times. But all of a sudden he short arms it and that to me where those are the two things that I would pick. And they're also nitpicking a little bit. And this is just nitpicking. I'd almost like to see him run a little bit more because he's such a good runner that I think there's. He could he could maybe explore that part of his game a little bit more and be more of a threat as a runner. But that's just nitpicking. I think finesse throws are his kryptonite right now. Not totally dissimilar from from the Lenore sellers, what I saw, but and not as extreme, but and then the hard part is he will layer a throw. Yeah, I don't see it as much as you. He shows the ability to throw with finesse. But there are some throws that need a little more arc, need a little bit more air. He's so good at ripping it. And it's just like this repetitive thing for him. And it's like I see a a means go like it's like a race car driver like that. That light turns green foot to the floor. I want to see him add that element to his game a little bit. I think it's going to help him lead a receiver. Just some yards after catch. I think it's going to allow him to not have that wild like balls like just four yards away. It doesn't all have to be that there's a lot of throws that I saw on tape with him where I'm like, it's just like the inability to throw with touch on certain throws that require touch. Or maybe it's not an ability, I guess, is the question I was asking myself throughout watching his tape. I don't know that it's an ability. I think it's like the practice of recognizing right as a quarterback. Sometimes you have to recognize this. This throw requires a different angle. Why would you go back to flying planes? For some reason, I told you both my parents worked for Delta Airlines, so I guess it's just ingrained in me. Flying like not every not every landing requires the same landing like landed a little different, you know? We got a storm, the winds blowing like we want to come in, but sometimes like let's let's finesse that thing down a little. And so and it sounds like nitpicking, but it's actually really not. I think that's the next step in his evolution, if you will. OK. But I want to see that this year and let's also it's not a weakness and he he disproved it immediately against Georgia. But now we enter a season where every SEC, every opponent on the schedule. He's like, why not? I'm going. And I think it was because he loved remember the Marshall head coach after, after the Ohio state game made some comments about trying to get kids to play for him. I think he loved that coach. And Tyler was like, I'm taking the thundering herd. That's my team now. But what do you go with? I'm a quarterback receiver guy. I want the, but the irony is the way I beat these young punks. Cause they, they're, they have, they get to log more hours. I have a day job. Yeah. The way I beat these young punks is I actually take the air out a little bit and it drives them crazy. I test their seven seconds of patient, like their seven second attention span that the, that everyone has now and I slow them down and it, and they, and I, and I'm literally watching him like standing up and looking around because they can't last 12 seconds and they don't even know that. So I hope they're not watching the show. I purposely slow the game down and then, or tempos. But then when, but when I go to throw, like I want a receiving core and I want a quarterback that can drill it. I don't get in. I don't run the quarterback much mobility for me in both mad. Oh no, that's not your game. That's never been. No, no. Tate's a big running quarterback guy. Like I, I I'm, I, I'm going to beat you in the pocket, but I'm going to run the ball a little bit and I'm going to tempo your ass to death. Love it. Where were we? Dan texting us that annoying guy online who runs power. I yeah, I'll do, I'll mix it in. I will. I'll mix it in. I will say this. I think it's a little, I mean, you can find a, find an upstart. You know what I mean? Like you don't have to go with the blue blood. You don't have to be Ohio state every time, but I get it. You know, me, I, I need it. I need a, I need a draft prospect prospect quarterback and I need to have a, a satania with material. I need to have an arch thrown to a cam Coleman, the Wingo. I just, I like that stuff. Um, let's not, let's also not glaze over the fact that that last year he threw for almost 4,000 yards. Chambliss did 22 touchdowns, just three interceptions. I don't have three interceptions by the way. That's what I'm saying. So I don't know what gets away with some, but that's a number that pops out free. You would think is a first year starter in the sec second year starter overall, there would be more moments of, of not melt up, but just like it's going too fast. Yeah. Crowd's too loud. It was over. I never felt like outside of that fourth quarter against Georgia that he was overwhelmed or the game was too fast for me, which is pretty awesome. But now to your point, I want to finish on the weaknesses like this is going to be really intriguing to see. He's had a wild off season. Obviously he's settled down. Now he's got a new, new play caller, new head coach, um, that was there for the college football playoff. But now you're starting a season and everyone knows what you do. Well, everyone's had a whole summer to watch your, what your weaknesses are and how do you rinse that awesome season rents that, that all the court injunction, all the stuff that you went through and, and refine both your game, but also the potential of what teams are going to throw at you in order to go back out there and repeat. And hopefully for his sake, repeat that Georgia game 12 to 16 times this season. Right. And what's that receiver room look like? I think, I think they've got talent in there, but it's, there's some turnover there. That's going to be interesting to see how that all develops. No question. No question. Um, quick on this. Talk to me about going to the NFL. What, what's the transition? What are you looking for? How do you project that transition for, for both or either of these guys? This is why I led with that. I think when you look at the accuracy, the decision-making, the confidence, I think, I think you would agree that Chambliss has better touch the material. Even if you think it's a, an area he needs to improve in, then Chambliss Chambliss seems more ready to make an impact at the NFL level. Now material is fascinating because the tools are in the ceilings. The ceiling is exciting. So if he can unlock that stuff, he can repeat the throwing motion. Like we'll, we both hope that he does this year. It'll be interesting to see where we stand at the end of the year, but coming off of last year, I think Chambliss is far more ready to make an impact in the NFL. Chambliss's game translates, man. And that's what we're talking about here. How does it, it translate it does in an NFL where mobility is more important than ever before. But not necessarily like running, but extending moving inside the pocket, creating. But most importantly, the just fast decisions, ball out fast hitting spots. It translates there's, there's improvement we've got to see. And we just mentioned some of the, some of those areas, but I, I see in, in Chambliss, a guy it it's going to translate even though he's five 11 and seven, eight of an inch. I don't, I don't guess the 16 balls batted down. So there's areas to like work. And I think that for him, it's you're not changing his throwing motion because of, because so much of that makes him great or, or like his Arma get out of here. But what you are doing is studying drew breeze. Yes. If I'm that Ole miss staff and I'm working with Chambliss, whoever, whoever his, his guy or his inner circle, I'm making him watch drew breeze. Because I don't know if there's two, I think, but yeah, Russell was. So those two, they're two of the best to ever do it as a shorter quarterbacks that found windows with subtle movement inside the pocket materials games. Conversely, as, as previously constructed, if his mechanics don't become, if they, if they don't stick and we don't see the, the, them become part of his repetitive motion, all like, I don't, I don't know that you trust him in the NFL. And that's where I'm, that's where I'm struggling because the brilliance is awesome. And you know what, as a backup coming in certain spots and all that, he can create and do some things and get, get some, get a fire lit. But as an every week starter, if he's not more consistent with his placement, I don't know. And, and with his decisions, it's going to be hard for him to emerge as one of 32 in the world. That's where I am with material, but I promise you, I think he's capable. Oh yeah. I think he's got a lot of the things that you need to be great in the NFL, starting with the, the burning fire, the football intelligence, the way he attacks the game. In addition to the toughness, the mobility, the ability to rip the ball, but his Chambliss is game right now. Believe it or not is it translates a little bit more. All right, let's get to the grades. I'm going to, I love doing this review now because now it's starting to fill out this board and we've got Nico Iamali Ava coming up. We got DeMond Williams coming up. We got Mesta maker transferring to, from North Texas to Oklahoma state coming up. We've got, we got my, my Ava from USC coming up. I'm interested. I'm, I'm excited to tell you some of the things I've learned about him and what he's done this off season. And I don't know if I'm so I'm, I'm not ruling out that one of those. In fact, you go to some of the scouting companies or scouting services, if you will, that the NFL teams utilize you'd be shocked. I think by how high Williams and Iamali Ava are on those lists ahead of some of these guys that we have, that we featured in the, in this building, the board 2027 quarterback class for the first 10 quarterbacks. But this allows us with the 10 that we've done to round out the top 10. I'm going to, I'm going to remind folks for both mention. I we're, we're about even what we call it a 95, a 94. We'll, we'll do a full show at the end where we, we rip through all our grades that we're going to start the season with, but Dante one sellers too. I've got Leavitt at three, Sam Leavitt transferred to LSU. Mench does not call. And that's going to be interesting when we have to do our show together. We're in Atlanta. I know. I don't look forward to that. Cause it got uncomfortable. Even you had to like, text Marissa to make sure everything was okay. I was like, what a rush. I was good about car, car and arch around a 92. Let's say it. 91, Carr and Arch, kind of identical grades, very different players. So Dante, Sellers, Carr, Arch, Levitt, either before those two or after those two. And I think for you, you had Mensah at five out of Levitt. So we've got to sort that out. But those are the top six, right? Sane and Sorsby being seven and eight. Understanding that Sorsby could be top five if we knew he had a season to play, given his tools, and could actually make the advancements he needs to. But he's a wild card. So with all that said, those are the top eight quarterbacks we've done with grades in basically that order. Are you higher on Chambliss or Mateer grade-wise? Chambliss. Okay, I thought so. Then let's go Mateer first. Where are you putting Mateer? What grade would you have on him? Again, behind the curtain, we don't get to do this. I don't get to hide anymore. I would argue that we should not have him on our board. We don't have enough information. He should be super confident in the grade. But I gave him an 84. I think that's almost optimistic about where we are right now. But I just couldn't go any higher than that with the accuracy issues. I think it could go either way with him. And I'm really hoping it goes well. I wrote down 78 with a wait and see. Yeah, I mean, I'm fine with that. It's the same thought process. And I'm fine with 84. 84 is kind of weird. It's kind of what you're hoping to see and believing that the work he's done in the offseason is going to translate into what we can envision if everything goes right, right? Yeah. I'm going 78 because he's not there yet. I haven't seen it in a game. I love so many things. I'm still going to give him an early third round grade based off of our scale. But it's still a backup that you hope you can develop at this point. Okay. Grades are not based off of rounds. They're based off of historically matching them up when it's very high in the 90s. And then beyond that, it's like second, third round grades. These guys are backups, but we see enough potential. You could develop them into a starter. Right. Tyler Shuck being on the highest end of that, right? Just to give a recent example. Yeah. And then when you get to day three, guys, like, yeah, we're going to find there's going to be a Tom Brady. There's going to be a Brock Purdy every once in a while. But historically, it's like 96. Something percent of those guys don't become like multi-year starters in the league. Right. So that's where we are on Mateer. Presently, we're both kind of saying, back up. Let's see what he's got this year. Certainly, we will adjust the grade as it goes, but we got to see it in the game. You know? All right. Chambliss. Chambliss. This one's going to be fascinating. He is the sixth best quarterback in this class. I gave him an 89. I'm giving him an 89. Give me your first five, then. It would be. Okay, now you put me on the spot. Dante. Sellers. Yep. Carr. Yep. Arch. Mensah. Chambliss. Ahead of Leavitt. Ahead of Leavitt. And ahead of Sorsby, obviously, insane. Yep. And ahead, obviously, of Mateer. My printer is starting to print again, too. And nobody else is in this house. It's just got a mind of its own. Every time this happens, I just imagine Tate is upstairs. With an app hooked up to your printer, like, print. You know, just messing with you. He's at lacrosse camp. My daughter's going to pick up. That's a different thing, I guess. I actually liked some of his stuff for a while. And I've been forced to listen to some of his stuff to get ready for this concert.
