Jesus Carried Our Sorrows

This sermon explores how Jesus carried our sorrows through His suffering and death on the cross, drawing primarily from Isaiah 53. The preacher establishes that Isaiah 53 contains the gospel itself, as Paul confirms in Romans 10:16 by calling Isaiah's "report" the gospel. Jesus grew up before God as a tender plant and root out of dry ground, remaining intimate with the Father despite Israel's spiritually corrupt environment under Herod's puppet religious leadership. On the cross, Jesus was disfigured beyond human recognition, despised, rejected, spat upon by both the Sanhedrin and Roman soldiers, and esteemed as zero. He became the Man of Sorrows who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. The Hebrew words reveal two distinct works: "choliy" encompasses sicknesses, diseases, and sorrows, while "makob" refers to pain. Jesus bore our sins and sicknesses in His body, but His soul was made a trespass offering (asham), taking the place of those who injured us to bring restitution. Under the law of restitution, stolen sheep required fourfold restoration and stolen oxen fivefold — the greater the loss, the greater the restoration. Jesus restored what He did not take away. Sorrow and depression break down the body and dry up the bones, but a merry heart works like medicine. Joy comes through believing God's word, and the joy of faith produces glory, making us heavy with God's blessings so no curse can touch us.

Speaker 1Thank you Jesus. Father, your name be glorified and praised forever. Thank you for tonight. We receive the engrafted word of God which is able to save our souls. Open our eyes that we may see wondrous things out of thy law. Cause us to be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of your house. We receive the spirit of wisdom, the spirit of revelation. Cause us to see and be transformed. Thank you Holy Spirit that you are all around us having preeminence among us. We bless you and we thank you in Jesus name, the son of God. Amen. Hallelujah. So tonight I want to speak to you on the subject Jesus carried our sorrows. So turn with me to the book of Isaiah chapter 53. We want to begin from verse 1, the book of Isaiah chapter 53, from verse 1, thank you Jesus. It says, who has believed our report? Through whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? Who has believed our report? That's what Isaiah is saying. I want you to know that Isaiah 53 is actually the gospel. The gospel is hidden in the Old Testament. If you want to find out the gospel in the Old Testament, you read Isaiah 53, but that is the gospel. How do I know Isaiah 53 is the gospel? Within the whole chapter, you encounter what the gospel is. It just summarized all that the gospel is about. And let's see how Paul made reference to it in the book of Romans chapter 10 verse 16. Romans 10 verse 16. Romans 10 verse 16. Romans 10 verse 16. Romans 10 verse 16. But they have not all obeyed the gospel. And what Paul is saying. For Isaiah, that is Isaiah. For Isaiah saith, Lord, who has believed our report? You see, he calls the report the gospel. Do you understand? He calls the report the gospel. Isaiah said, who has believed our report? And Paul is saying that that report is the gospel. in has lingered for a long time but i came to say the gospel is quick it is quick we need to believe the gospel hallelujah all right let's let's see what the gospel entails back to isaiah chapter 53 it says who has believed our report to whom is to whom is the arm of the lord revealed there's two that's two now verse two talks about jesus's life for he shall grow up before him as a tender plant let's hear something about jesus for he shall grow up before him as a tender plant now jesus is god but when he came to the earth he came as a man so he said he shall grow up that means he actually grew from being a baby to being a boy to being a man the bible says he increased in wisdom and his teacher and in favor with god a man so he grew so here we are talking about jesus being a man his humanity praise god and it says he grew before him as a tender plant plant in the bible is the description of humanity plant is humanity so he grew but he was tender so that means jesus when he was growing up before god we see his humility we see his vulnerability before god he was just vulnerable he was humble he was just open before his father whatever the father does is what he does whatever the father says is what he he would do the son can do nothing of himself but whatsoever things he see the father do even so do with the son likewise he was just his heart was soft and open before god may that be your story that your heart is opened tender for whatever god wants to do in your life that you not hinder it but allow it but i like this mess because it says for he shall grow up before him so jesus grew in his youthful days before the father in the hebrew the word says he grew before his face before his presence but jesus grew up before god's presence that means that our lord jesus when he came as a man was always intimate with the father was always one with the father he was always one with the father that means that our lord jesus when he came as a man was always intimate with the father was always one with the father always one with the father when you read the book of john 1 verse 18 the bible says that no man has seen god at any time but the holy begotten son of god who son who is in the bosom of the father he has declared him he he is in the bosom of the father now i didn't say jesus was in the bosom of the father but even when he walked on earth he is in the bosom of the father that means his humanity did not impair or obstruct that sacred intimacy he had with the father before he came into time what it means is that his incarnation did not impair did not take away the oneness he had with the father jesus was always one with the father in eternity and when he came to the earth it was it was an inseparable union so it was always before his presence i pray your children will grow up like that your children will grow up in god's presence with the consciousness of god that's how he grew up before him so let your children come to church you may never know you will encounter something one day you may think they are just playing up and down something will rob over them yeah hallelujah so this is jesus so he shall grow up before him he grew before the father and joined the father's presence as a tender plants he grew up before the father and joined the father's presence as a tender plants now i'm going to tell you how jesus took our sorrows i want you to walk with me and follow me so that from today depression will never rule over your life again your sadness will never rule over your life again i'm telling you that you live a life full of joy knowing what jesus has done i want you to follow me praise god if you love someone you want to hear more about that person is that not so and i know you are in love with jesus so you want to hear more about jesus praise god but here he says he grew up also as a roots out of a dry ground now look at her if you have a tree and the root is from a dry ground chances are that the roots the tree can even die they're not so because the ground needs water now when the bible says jesus grew up as a root out of a dry ground it's a description of the spiritual environment jesus found himself in when he came to the earth when he came to the earth israel was spiritually dried spiritually bankrupt so it is describing the conditions of his human existence where he found himself in israel was dry spiritually they were dead if i want jesus came to israel it was one of the worst conditions of israel in their in their history let me tell you a story jesus was born in the in the days of herod the great i know you know that story herod that guy was wicked that guy was very wicked you know when herod became a king know what he did he killed all the sanhedrin not the sanhedrin all the jewish leaders seven to one leaders in israel now that the one who was the leader of all the other leaders was the high priest so seventh one member body these were the council the official court the leadership of israel there were 71 people herod the great killed all of them he loved killing in fact he killed his three sons because he was afraid they would take his throne he even killed his wife but he was afraid his wife would take his throne he was the most insecure person whatever fine so he killed all israel's leaders then set his own sanhedrin so he set up his own high priest and set up his own seventh one member sanhedrin so when jesus came all the leadership of israel were actually herod's puppet they were called the religious mafia they were instituted just to carry out herod's army they were instituted just to carry out herod's army agenda agenda agenda that is what you read the gospels and you that is what you read the gospels and you that is what you read the gospels and you go like go like go like they knew jesus was a messiah they knew they knew jesus was a messiah they knew they knew jesus was a messiah they knew they were not confused they were not confused they were not confused but they decided to oppose him they said but they decided to oppose him they said but they decided to oppose him they said this is the air let us kill him that this is the air let us kill him that this is the air let us kill him that the inheritance may be ours so that was the environment jesus grew so that was the environment jesus grew so that was the environment jesus grew up in up in up in that he thrived and i i pray that that that he thrived and i i pray that that that he thrived and i i pray that that would be the condition of our children would be the condition of our children would be the condition of our children you know the present world we are in you know the present world we are in you know environment but that never corrupt environment but that never corrupt environment but that never affected him affected him affected him he has no form nor comeliness now we go he has no form nor comeliness now we go he has no form nor comeliness now we go to what happened on the cross to what happened on the cross to what happened on the cross he has no form nor comeliness and when he has no form nor comeliness and when he has no form nor comeliness and when we shall see him there is no beauty that we shall see him there is no beauty that we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him we should desire him we should desire him now as i now come to talk about jesus now as i now come to talk about jesus now as i now come to talk about jesus on the cross he has no form on the cross he has no form on the cross he has no form he has no form if you see me now i have a he has no form if you see me now i have a he has no form if you see me now i have a form you can see my nice face form you can see my nice face form you can see my nice face you're not so you can see my nice beard you're not so you can see my nice beard you're not so you can see my nice beard at least i'm i'm handsome is that not so at least i'm i'm handsome is that not so at least i'm i'm handsome is that not so i'm handsome like a pastor yo reverend i'm handsome like a pastor yo reverend i'm handsome like a pastor yo reverend yo we are handsome yo we are handsome but you saw jesus he had no form on the but you saw jesus he had no form on the but you saw jesus he had no form on the cross he was disfigured the bible says that if you just go back back to chapter the end of chapter 52 verse 14 chapter 52 verse 14 look at chapter 52 52 verse 14 i want to show you how jesus form was like how jesus became even another version in james here is very if you have net or something is that 52 verse 14. i'll show you his form how jesus became many will be shocked by him his appearance will be so disfigured that he won't look like any other man his looks will be so disfigured that he will hardly look like a human that's jesus on the cross so he was so disfigured because on the cross he took your cancer he took your tumor he took your growth he took your sicknesses they all fell upon him that when you saw him he didn't look like look like a human being any longer you've watched the passion of the of the christ christ this is god almighty or ramaka becoming a man is despised despised and rejected man it's daily no you know what it means how they disdain him it's like someone's spitting if i spit on you i'm disdaining you i'm saying you are good for nothing you are worthless don't you don't deserve my my respect so you know how they spot on jesus that is author is on jesus now two groups of people actually spat on jesus the religious group and the political group yeah it began with the military actually politically they spat on him i understand this that the bible tells us that jesus stood at the praetorium the common hall you know what happened all the soldiers got it together spat on him he spat on him he spat on him praise god all right now i want us to see isaiah 56 isaiah 56 i gave my back to the smiters and my cheeks put them that part of the hair i hate not my face from shame and spitting i hate not my face from shame and spitting i want us to see matthew 26 matthew 26 verse 57 first 57 and did that i laid hold on him led him away to caiaphas and the high priest where the scribes and the elders were assembled unless with 67 67 then they spit in his face and buffeted him then they spit in his face and buffeted him and buffeted him and buffeted him now there is why i i so what it means is that the bible says that the high priest the scribes the leaders actually the council and together there were 71 people 71 people together they small jesus and they spat on his face do you know what happened we have jesus standing there all the 71 leaders the san henry he stood there and they spat on his face you know what happened we have jesus standing there all the 71 leaders the san henry he stood there and they all walk and they all spit on him one by one and when we read in in azar 50 he says and when we read in in azar 50 he says and when we read in in azar 50 he says i hate not my faith from spitting you if i hate not my faith from spitting you if i hate not my faith from spitting you if they are spitting on you they are spitting on you they are spitting on you i'm sure you do this but jesus didn't i'm sure you do this but jesus didn't i'm sure you do this but jesus didn't hide his face and they were spitting on him they were speaking on him they were speaking on him and in martin 27 there was another and in martin 27 there was another and in martin 27 there was another spitting this spitting was the bible says spitting this spitting was the bible says spitting this spitting was the bible says that the whole band of soldiers that the whole band of soldiers that the whole band of soldiers came together and they mocked him came together and they mocked him came together and they mocked him and they spat on his face this is the and they spat on his face this is the and they spat on his face this is the whole band of soldiers whole band of soldiers whole band of soldiers the whole band of soldiers and the wet band the whole band of soldiers and the wet band the whole band of soldiers and the wet band the one we say so just may think is and the wet band the one we say so just may think is about four or five soldiers about four or five soldiers about four or five soldiers but that's is the whole band the wet but that's is the whole band the wet but that's is the whole band the wet band is spira band is spira band is spira in a greek which is a military cohort of in a greek which is a military cohort of in a greek which is a military cohort of six hundred to thousand men six hundred to thousand men six hundred to thousand men so the bounce is the whole band we have so the bounce is the whole band we have so the bounce is the whole band we have thousand people thousand people thousand people spitting on jesus so jesus's whole body was filled with so jesus's whole body was filled with so jesus's whole body was filled with what buff was he was bathed in splitter what buff was he was bathed in splitter what buff was he was bathed in splitter he can understand splitter too he was he can understand splitter too he was he can understand splitter too he was despised and rejected of men despised and rejected of men despised and rejected of men so as they spat on him the language was so as they spat on him the language was so as they spat on him the language was clear clear clear we disdain you you don't deserve our we disdain you you don't deserve our we disdain you you don't deserve our respect respect respect you are good for nothing that was the you are good for nothing that was the you are good for nothing that was the language language language i hate not my face from spitting in the And the Bible says he was despised and rejected of men. He was forsaken of men. Back to our text. Isaiah 53. And forsaken. So he was rejected. The religious council rejected him. The political powers rejected him. Israel rejected him. Everybody rejected him. Even heaven rejected him. My God, my God, why is Isaiah forsaken me? So he was lifted. Hanging between heaven and earth. Earth rejected him. Heaven rejected him. He was a man of sorrows. Praise God. And we hate us with our faces. You know what it means? Have you ever seen something that is so despicable? Something is so horrible that you don't even want to see it. Have you ever seen that? Encountered that before? Had that experience before? What you are seeing is so bad. It's so despicable. I don't want to see with your eyes. So you go like this. Or you turn your face. Because what you are seeing is not pleasant. So when Jesus. Was on the cross. The Bible says. And we hate as it were our faces. So you can just imagine. The one on the cross. The kind of shame of what he was bearing. We hate as though it was our faces. Amazing. And he says. He was despised. Again. Despised is mentioned twice. He was despised and we esteemed him not. We esteemed him not. Now listen. The word esteemed here is an accountant term. The Hebrew says. We esteemed him as zero. That's the Hebrew. Now. If I ask you a question. It's a man of God. On the scale of one to ten. You know this one is honorable. Which number? Where will you place him? You have to find something to say. You normally see on the scale of one to ten. This one is a gentleman. You place him on the number eight. All right. But with Jesus. You place him at zero. So the Hebrew says. So Jesus was utterly despised. And this is God we are talking about. But the Bible calls him. A man of sorrows. And had been tipped with grief. That's what I'm talking about. That's what I want to talk about. A man of sorrows. Now this description. Is when he went to the cross. Now when the Bible says he was a man of sorrows. It doesn't mean when he was on earth. He was always sorrowful. That wasn't my Jesus. He wasn't sorrowful on earth. The Bible says he was anointed with the oil of gladness. Above his fellows. You know Jesus was anointed with the oil of gladness. Above his fellows. So Jesus was always joyful. But on the cross. And acquainted with our grief. Are you here with me? I want to show you how Jesus carried our sorrows. So let's go to the next verse. Verse 4. Surely. Surely. He has borne our griefs. And carried our sorrows. Is it true? Yet we did esteem him stricken. And smitten of God. And afflicted. Surely. He has borne. Now I want to show you the scope of redemption. You have to know all that Jesus did in redemption. So you can take your place. Praise God. Other than that. You may live life on earth. Far beneath. Far behind. All that Jesus gave you in redemption. You have to find out and you have to know it. He said. Surely. The reason why he was a man of sorrows. Is that he took your sorrows. Now I want to explain what it means for Jesus. to bear our griefs and and i'll say with the griefs and sorrows now they are these words are while two in one griefs and sorrows griefs and sorrows now the hebrew says he has born our collie and carried our makov our collie and makov there are two things in one i want to show you what jesus did for you two things in one now in the hebrew the word grief is collie in english grief is intense sorrow someone who is so sorrowful he cannot help himself but the hebrew says holy a collie is the word for sicknesses and diseases sicknesses and diseases so number one in the hebrew the word collie is used 12 times for sicknesses and it is used five times for diseases and it is used four times for sorrows are you with me okay so we are talking about sickness diseases and sorrows so that's the word for grief and he has carried our sorrows and what is makov makov makov is translated pain and sorrows 16 times in 15 verses the bible so it is pain and sorrows i want to show you what jesus took on the cross two things our sicknesses and diseases and our griefs and sorrows the bible says by his tribes we were healed but we're healed in two different ways we're healed in our bodies and we're healed in our souls now the healing jesus offered us was first bodily healing healing in your body then healing in your soul he didn't give us any healing in our spirits our spirits are not healed when you give your life to christ your spirit is resurrected your spirit is not healed but your spirit is reborn you are born again not of the corruptible seed but incorruptible so our spirits are not healed your spirit is born of god it is a resurrected spirit but two things healing is in comes in two ways your body and your soul but jesus actually healed our bodies on the course he took our sicknesses then he also dealt with your depression your sadness your sorrows your heaviness and your emotions he dealt with your despair your anguish you know all your sadness he also took it away so what he did is to take healing bring healing to your physical body and also healing to your soul but sometimes healing in the soul is much more needed very important is i following me all right so is it true man of god what are you saying is it true that jesus took our sicknesses and diseases maybe it's easy to believe but the second one jesus took your depression jesus took your sorrows he took your sadness you cannot sleep at night because of the things you are going through your heart is weighed down because of disappointments because of relational problems financial crisis disappointments failures jesus took our sicknesses and diseases maybe it's easy to believe but the second one jesus took your depression jesus took your sorrows he took your sadness you cannot sleep at night because of the things you are going through your heart is weighed down because of disappointments because of relational problems financial crisis disappointments failures two minutes things too many troubles in human life and you you cannot sleep that emotional heaviness that anguish that despair the good news is that this says the bible says he carried it you know i love the word of god because god knows he would doubt it god knows he would doubt what jesus did so look at how it starts it says surely surely he knows you doubt it because you are feeling the pain right now but you are telling me that jesus took it but if he says to get why should i be feeling it now you cannot say that in the realm of faith that's why i'm teaching the word of god it is surely you know god is not a man that he should lie he's not a son of man that he should repent has he said it will he not do it has he spoken shall he not make it good i've sworn in my holiness to my servant david i don't lie unto david that by two immutable things in which it is impossible for god to lie god cannot lie a scripture cannot be broken yeah he said surely he knows you doubt it so look at how he began the text surely it means certainly most assuredly irrevocably immutably inevitably it is sure it is certain it is certain it is certain he carried your emotions emotional problems he carried your depression he carried your sadness he carried your sorrows he carried that pain you at midnight that disappointment that heartache jesus took it away surely surely surely surely surely he has born your intense sorrow you cannot sleep if being the man of sorrows if working sorrows sadness all your life just surely surely surely if being the man of sorrows you cannot sleep if being the man of sorrows you cannot sleep now i want to just illustrate something i want to explain the two words harry he has born and he has carried he has born our souls he has born two words the first is born the second is carried i want to show you how jesus carried your sadness away and how he carried your sickness away and how he carried your your burdens and your emotional weight that's heartbreak all right can i get some two people here all right so as you carry this is carry it can you carry it on your head i know your hair is a nicely combed but this is your bed this is your sorrows so you are carrying sorrows all your life financial sorrows financial sorrows marital sorrows marital sorrows marital sorrows relational sorrows relational sorrows relational sorrows in job in a in job in a in job in a disappointment betrayal disappointment betrayal disappointment betrayal in life sorrows in life sorrows in life sorrows you are carrying it in life and all your you are carrying it in life and all your you are carrying it in life and all your life life life you can hardly smile because of the things you can hardly smile because of the things you can hardly smile because of the things you've gone through in life you've gone through in life you've gone through in life intense sorrow now two words the first is intense sorrow now two words the first is intense sorrow now two words the first is the word the word the word born he has born the second is he has born the second is he has carried carried carried now the word born means now the word born means now the word born means to take something from someone and to to take something from someone and to to take something from someone and to carry it yourself carry it yourself carry it yourself so pastor michael just go and take this so pastor michael just go and take this so pastor michael just go and take this man's sorrows take it from his head man's sorrows take it from his head man's sorrows take it from his head so you give it to him are you willing to so you give it to him are you willing to so you give it to him are you willing to give your burdens to jesus give your burdens to jesus give your burdens to jesus are you really willing you know you know are you really willing you know you know are you really willing you know you know our problem the problems we face our problem the problems we face our problem the problems we face we come to church we lay our bearings on we come to church we lay our bearings on we come to church we lay our bearings on the altar the altar the altar the lord i give it to you when we close the lord i give it to you when we close the lord i give it to you when we close we carry it back and go home with it we carry it back and go home with it we carry it back and go home with it how do i know we start we continue to how do i know we start we continue to how do i know we start we continue to worry worry worry about what we committed to god about what we committed to god about what we committed to god so so so this is jesus give him this is jesus give him this is jesus give him sorrows okay you see the back all your sorrows okay you see the back all your sorrows okay you see the back all your sorrows from your birth your departure from the from your birth your departure from the from your birth your departure from the earth earth earth jesus has carried all of them you jesus has carried all of them you jesus has carried all of them you understand he's carried understand he's carried understand he's carried so he took it from you and he bought so he took it from you and he bought so he took it from you and he bought this is the greek the hebrew this is the greek the hebrew this is the greek the hebrew description of the word description of the word description of the word today he has born he has born he has born he has born it's true it's true it's true just believe the word of god he has just believe the word of god he has just believe the word of god he has borne borne borne our souls our souls our souls and he says and he says and he says he has borne our gifts and carried he has borne our gifts and carried he has borne our gifts and carried now the word covered you may think they now the word covered you may think they now the word covered you may think they are the same words are the same words are the same words but the word carried is a different word but the word carried is a different word but the word carried is a different word is the word for is the word for is the word for servitude servitude servitude when he carried it he said the sentence of when he carried it he said the sentence of it he served its sentence servitude that means he went the full length of it to fully serve the sentence of your sorrows that means he has fully paid for it all the sorrows in your lifetime you're supposed to experience he carried it and he he bought it and he carried it is the word for servitude he said the sentence of your souls he said the sentence he carried the full length i want you to go up and down remember you are representing jesus so the full length servitude servitude all your sorrows the weight in your emotions all your anguish he says he didn't just carry it he paid for it he bought the pain of it in full length in full time he paid so that you don't have to carry anything praise the lord so surely gospel can office surely surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows he has born this is what jesus did give him the praise thank you sir thank you my my my my let me ask you a question when jesus carried our sons where did he carry ourselves which part of his being did he carry our sons about this he carried our sins in his body in his body not on his spirit in his body he carried our sons in his body first peter 2 verse 24 first peter 2 24 who it is his own self bear our sons in his own body he bore our sins in his own body his body so where did jesus bear our sons his body his body remember hebrews chapter 10 from verse 5 invents sacrifices and offerings that what does not that has pleasure therein but the body has not prepared for me see when he was coming to the earth god prepared a body for jesus as a replacement the levitical offerings so he carried our sins where in his body the bible says he was put to death in the flesh the just for the unjust he was made in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin condemned sin in the flesh but jesus bore our sons in his body praise god the second question is where did jesus bear our sicknesses and diseases where did he bear our sicknesses and diseases of course in his body i gave my back to the smiters jesus was caged and in his body he received all our sicknesses the next question they say what about your sorrows and your griefs your sadness your depression your depression you be not happy all of those things where did jesus bear it where did jesus bear it let's go to chapter 10. i want to show you the two aspects of the offerings of jesus christ chapter 10. his body was an offering to carry our sins and our sicknesses but there's another one so the offerings here is in two aspects look at chapter 10. i'm saying as i 53 sorry there's 10. we are in we are not moving from a 53 yes there's 10. yet it's pleased the lord to bruise him or to crush him can you imagine the father was happy crossing jesus because it was for you it was for you for your sake he has put him to grief grief has come again grief is here intense sorrow when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin so his body was an offering but his soul was also an offering you see we need to understand how he gave his body as an offering for sin and for sicknesses we also have to know how jesus's soul became an offering his soul was also an offering so how did jesus's soul become an offering you know your soul your emotions your feelings so his soul had to be an offering how did he so become an offering that means every bad feeling you are supposed to feel jesus felt it for you all the heartaches all the sadness the depression the despair the despondency oh he says boy in his soul he bought it it is good to know that jesus bought it you know when he was on the cross if reader counts they brought him may make a man mixed with girl he tasted it and rejected it when he tasted it he rejected it you know why when people were dying on the cross in those days if they drink their man mixed with gal they lose their consciousness consciousness this with the soul they lose their consciousness so they are suffering the pain but they don't feel it it is called so horrific influence you don't feel what you are going it's been numbs your body sometimes if a part of your body has been numbed that doesn't flow through you cannot feel the pain yeah so it makes the vinegar mixed with gal he tasted it and saw that this is going to reduce my pain he rejected it why you have to bear your sorrows to the full length and bear your sadness to the full length so you can live a life of joy hallelujah but before he died they brought him in vinegar again but this time it was not mixed with gal then he drank it even on the cross even on the cross now listen when that shall make his soul an offering for sin and the whole expression an offering for sin the english says offering for sin is just just one word he made his soul there's grief there so he was bearing your grief and he made god made his soul an offering for sin is the word asham the word trespass offering listen don't lose focus jesus became a trespass offering you remember that you noticed when there's something called trespass offering okay it became a trespass offering the word offering for sin literally is asham which means trespass offering say trespass offering in jesus this is bearing your sadness he asked when he was paying for you he has to pay in the terms of trespass offering let me show you something that would excite you are you here now with the trespass offering there's a law under the trespass offering calls the law of restoration you can call it restitution it's actually restitution restitution is restoration with compensation it's not just it's not just something being restored but being restored in greater measure restoration with compensation exodus 22 22 describes a trespass offering exodus 22 verse 1. if a man shall steal an ox or a sheep and kill it or sell it he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep let me show you what it means you are in the house and someone came to in those days steal your sheep the person went to steal your sheep and the person went to use your sheep for or suya you know he used he went to kill the sheep to enjoy the ship The guy is caught. The Bible says he has to restore. But in restoring, he doesn't bring back one sheep to you. He brings you four sheep. Oh! Wow! It's called restitution. If the guy had brought me back one sheep, I would have been okay. But God says no, it should be four. It's almost like, wow! I'm so happy I was robbed. Because if I had not been robbed, I would have had one. But now that I was robbed, blessed be God, I have four. Where is the next thief? But the mystery is this. If the person steals one sheep, he restores four. But if he steals a cow, he restores five. So, the greater your mess, the greater the restoration. The greater the devil has robbed you, the greater the restoration comes to you. Because you see, if one sheep is taken from you, you have to restore four. But if one ox or cow is taken from you, you don't restore four, you restore five. Look at God's wisdom. This is called a trespass offering. Trespass offering. Now listen. The Bible says, Jesus incurring your sadness and heaviness, he had to pay trespass offering to God for you. In Psalm 69 verse 4, Jesus says, I restored that which I took not away. So Jesus took the place of the perpetrator. He took the place of the one who injured you and the one who stole from you. To restore to you. Although he's not the one who took from you. Look at the last part. Then I restored. This speaks of his death. I restored that which I took not away. Speaking of the trespass offering. So, someone stole a sheep from you. Someone stole a cow from you. Jesus on the cross took the place of the one who injured you. The one who stole from you. To restore to you what he didn't take from you. Jesus took the place of the one who injured you. emotional agony you know what jesus did he restored four times and some of you have gone through wild mess he restored five times you know what it means now this is all in scripture you see this is what he did discovered for us in redemption i don't know what kind of sorrows you've gone in maybe you've sold much in life you think all is lost you've gone through a lot of anguish a lot of pain you know what jesus did you qualify to receive restoration because he took the place of the one who injured you to pay the trespass offering you qualify you qualify hallelujah but all this with knowledge because faith comes by knowledge he was it comes by hearing and hearing the word of god so you are going through a mess you are weighed down yet you are not hopeless because you know that this pain i'm going through once there's one that took it for me not just taking it away from me but restore to me much more i don't know you're lost you are sorrowing because of something you have lost in life you are sorry because of the kind of relationship you have lost you are sorry because of the kind of financial mess you are sorry because of a kind of disadvantage or a kind of heart brokenness in all of faith jesus actually took your place because his death was your death and he took the place of the one who injured you to restore the much more unto you to restore the blessing unto you to restore so if you are here and you have gone through depression you have gone through sorrows you have gone through heartache prepare for the restoration prepare for the restitution prepare for the trespass offering jesus is here to restore to you whatever you have lost and much more your sorrows will never be in vain oh my last satire what is weighing down your heart you have to know what what the word of god has said you have to look at the cross across they looked onto him and they were radiant and their faces were not ashamed look to the cross look to the cross you know what you have to do when you are becoming sorrowful now we are in a world we are in a falling world and i'm telling you that a lot of things can make you so rueful a lot of things can make you sorrowful i was driving with my wife went to celebrate our anniversary i packed to pick someone and i got somewhere i stopped to evangelize to the person as we parked our car someone came to hit the back of the car instantly i became sorrowful but listen if you know what jesus has done when the soul comes you don't keep it the soul will come but you don't keep the sorrow you understand the sorrow will come but you don't keep the sorrow because it is harmful harmful to keep the sorrow i became sorrowful but then day if you've sown the word of god in your hearts and day you begin to know i said lord thank you you are my trespasser friend you are the one you took the place of the one who crashed my car lord restore thank you but i got everything i got was i knew i got everything came back again restored and your response is that when you're good when the sorrows come you respond by praising god knowing that say this soul jesus took it away i'm feeling the pain but i'll not keep it say jesus you took it away and start talking to him praising him jesus you took it away i feel the pain but you took it away thank you that you didn't only take it away but you restored to me what i've lost and start praising god in the faith language you have the restoration no god cannot lie these things are the truth you have the restoration you have it you have it oh my you have it see when jesus resurrected from the dead the first question jesus asked in john 20 verse 15 he says saw mary mary was at the tomb site weeping weeping weeping the first question asked in the resurrection was woman why we passed down the first question in the resurrection is woman why are you weeping listen the first thing jesus did when he was was rose from the dead when he rose from the dead the first thing he did was to wipe away the tears of a woman that's the first thing he did that's the first thing that the resurrected lord did to wipe away the tears of a woman now jesus asked the question look at it woman why we passed down i'm asking you the same question woman why are you weeping you know why he's asking because his death solved the issue his death solved the issue so he's asking why are you weeping i look at the verse she's supposed him to be the gardener said unto him say if you know where they have carried him tell me and i'll go and take him my woman how can you go and take the whole body of jesus he was in love with jesus so the sense of reason was even gone he was in love with jesus so the sense of reason was even gone so the woman thought this jesus was a gardener but jesus appeared to mary as a gardener the resurrected lord appeared like a gardener you know why because the first adam was a gardener by appearing as a gardener he's saying eden has been restored in the resurrection eden has been restored eden has been restored why are you weeping he has come to wipe away our tears tears now it is not safe to live your life in it is not safe to live your life in it is not safe to live your life in sorrows sorrows sorrows and depression it's not safe at all the reason is because sadness and the reason is because sadness and the reason but you look like 80. you are 50 but you look like 80. you are 40 but you look like 55. hallelujah the bible says that the sorrows of the the bible says that the sorrows of the the bible says that the sorrows of the world world world wicked death and there are two kinds wicked death and there are two kinds wicked death and there are two kinds of sorrows of sorrows of sorrows second corinthians seven For godly sorrow Weaketh repentance to salvation Not to be repented of By the sorrow of the world Weaketh death Now there are two kinds of sorrows Godly sorrow And worldly sorrow Two kinds of sorrows Are you here with me? Okay I'm talking about worldly sorrow But let me just say something small about godly sorrow What is godly sorrow? And I'm explaining in context Godly sorrow is when God is correcting you For something wrong Or your leader is correcting you But the correction is bringing to you Hates It hurts your feelings You don't like it Although you feel bad You still succumb to it And you change your mind About that wrong The bible says it leads to salvation Now he's not talking about Our salvation from hell or something He's already addressing Christians The word is soteria I told you It leads to your deliverance And it leads to your safety It leads to your well-being So you are corrected Perhaps your pastor is saying that The relationship you are in is wrong This relationship will not help you This guy you want to marry Your pastor is saying what you cannot see And you bear witness at this thing It cannot help you You are feeling bad Though it hurts You still go according to what God is saying Through your pastor And you change your mind The word repent is Metanoia Change mind You change your mind The bible says it will lead to your well-being So when you are corrected Although it hurts You respond aright The bible says It's wicked repentance not to be repented of It's wicked metanoia Not to be repented of That means to bless your life You wouldn't regret the decision you made So sometimes God is correcting you The feeling may not be good Now no chastening for the present Seemed to be joyous But grievous Nevertheless afterward It yielded the peaceable fruit of righteousness To them that are exercised thereby My son Despise not thou the chastening of the Lord Nor faint when thou art rebuked of him Happy is the man whom thou hast repented of Happy is the man whom thou hast repented of Happy is the man whom thou hast repented of Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the almighty So God will correct you And in this chapter you know what had happened There was a guy in Corinth Who was into an incestuous relationship Incest He was actually sleeping with his stepmother That's in 1 Corinthians 5 Yeah And the guy was not repenting And when you see it cry It has become his profession Can you imagine that your girlfriend Is your stepmother Your side chick is your stepmother Can you just imagine And Paul realized that the church was too lenient About this whole issue It's not that the guy fell into sin No, the guy knew it And he's happy with it So the church was so lenient about the issue So Paul actually rebuked the church For not taking the incestuous precaution So It was hurting But He listened to what Paul said At the end of the day The guy actually repented He was still in the church He repented And Paul used that to explain to them What happened was godly sorrow It hurts But they responded to the correction So I'm telling you that Whatever correction God has given to you Though it hurts Respond to it Because it will lead to your well-being Yeah If God says Sometimes God can't even correct you with Your eating Your eating habit Yeah I heard the Copeland say God Put him to check his Eating of ice cream Was eating ice cream too much Loved ice cream And God may say Check the ice cream Yeah That's interesting Yeah God is correcting you But you have to heed to the correction Then he says By the sorrow of the world Like a death What is the sorrow of the world? Depression Condemnation Guilt Sadness Anguish Despair Sighing Ah I'm dead What is happening? You live in it Every day you eat sorrow You know what is happening? Death is working in you Death It's work at death And when you read the Bible And the Bible says it's work at death It's not just fiscal death All those fiscal death is included When the Bible says death is an all-inclusive thing Sickness is death Sickness is death began Sicknesses Diseases Poverty Lack Fear Loneliness All of them Death So Depression Guilt Condemnation If you allow these things To happen to you in your life, you will not be able to do it again. You will not be able to do it again. We have solution in redemption. So, even if you are taking the medicine, speak God's word on the medicine. Speak God's word. By his stripes, I'm healed and delivered and declare your health. The pain may be there, but still speak the word of God. You understand? That's how to fight the good fight of faith. In the same way, when your soul is weighing down, sorrows, you are depressed. You know what you have to say? Don't keep quiet. The sorrow has come, but don't keep it. Say, thank you, Jesus. Start praising. Praise him that he took your sorrows away. Lord, it's not easy for me, but thank you that you took it away. You have become a trespasser, friend. It is called a sacrifice of praise. It is a praise angels cannot give. Angels can praise, but they cannot give sacrifice of praise. Sacrifice of praise is when you are going through difficulties and you are praising God. Praise becomes a sacrifice. And its valuation is higher than ordinary praise. So, Father, thank you. Thank you. Thank you that you took it away. Speak God's word. God bless you. Your joy is my strength. And listen, your thinking controls your feeling. Once you know someone bore it away, you start feeling better. And once you know Jesus is restoring to you, the fourfold, you know good things are coming your way. Your heart was broken, but you know your heart is going to be amended fourfold. Good things will come your way. Say, I refuse to be sad. I refuse to live in sorrows. Yeah. To have buried on your body to lead to death. Now, Jesus said. In John 15, verse 11. Let's see what Jesus said. John 15, verse 11. These things have I spoken unto you. That my joy might remain in you. Hallelujah. That your joy might be full. Where do you get joy from? From the things I've said unto you. For joy comes from his word. That is it. Like what I'm telling you, through God's word, can give you joy. That my joy may remain in you. So, joy comes from Yaminasam. God's word. God's word. God gives you joy. Not ordinary joy. He says, that's my joy. What a shock. First thing, do you know Jesus' joy? Haven't you ever read the Hebrews chapter 1? His joy. That the Bible says. Containing Jesus. Thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity. Therefore God, even thy God, has anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. So, Jesus was anointed with. The oil of joy. Above Moses. Above Joshua. Above all his fellows. So, Jesus was more joyful than David. Jesus was more joyful than Moses. Jesus was more joyful than Abraham. He was the most joyful. He was anointed with joy. And he says, this joy. I'm telling you these things that my joy, that joy, that joy may remain in you. Why the word remain? Sometimes, you know what happens to us? We are joyful today. Tomorrow, we are sorrowful. The next day, we are joyful. The following day, we are sorrowful. Like the pendulum, we swing between joy and get back to sorrow. But Jesus says that my joy may remain, may be settled, unmovable in you. That is his will for your life. That you are joyful on Monday. Joyful on Tuesday. Joyful on Wednesday. Joyful on Thursday. Joyful on Friday. All around joy. And that joy is unshakable. It comes through his word. It came out trespass offering. And he says, that's your joy. So, my joy become your joy. That your joy may be full. Listen, that means that if he's saying your joy may be full, that means your joy can be quarter full. Your joy can be half full. And your joy can be totally full. But his will for your life is that your joy may be totally full. He wants your joy full. You are not concerned with life. Knowing he's faithful and will never disappoint you. Knowing he is steadfast. He doesn't fail. Say, Lord, I give you this sorrows. That's all you have to say. Whatever I've lost because of these sorrows, thank you that you have restored much more to me. I praise you. Don't keep that sorrow. Praise him into joy and renew your mind with joy. Listen, there was this guy who was diagnosed with cancer. The guy was diagnosed with cancer. He sat himself in the room. And watched comedy. Comedy. Watched comedy movies for one month. When he came and went to the hospital, the cancer was gone. Now this is even in the natural. This is the natural. How much for the supernatural? The reason is because the Bible tells us that a joyful heart do good like medicine. When you are happy. Medically, it releases what is called endorphins. So your happiness and your joy is releasing healing to your body. The guy was just laughing. So he was in the room. He laughed when he came from the room. The cancer was gone. Yeah. So laughter is medically proven to heal a lot of cancers. How much more when your joy comes from the word. When your joy comes from the word, when Jesus has carried it, just be carefree. But he has truly carried it. As a power of joy. In Isaiah 12:3 it says with joy shall he draw waters out of the wells of salvation. Salvation is in wells. One is called healing, one is called prosperity. One is called deliverance, like the 12 wells of Elim. But if you have a well, how do you draw from the well? You need a rope and you need a bucket to draw from the well. The Bible says that joy is that rope. Joy is that bucket, with joy you can draw from the wells of salvation. When you are in joy, things work for you. Blessings follow you. You are drawing health. You are drawing healing. All good things come to you. Joy comes from the word. So in Philippians 1:25, the Bible says the joy of faith. Joy of faith. You see, once you have faith, you have joy. And how do you have faith? Through the word. Once you believe, joy comes. I'm telling you Jesus took away all your sorrows. If you believe what I'm saying, joy comes. Blessed is she that believeth. Jesus said, said I not unto you that if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God. He said, if you believe, you will see. You don't see to believe, you believe to see. If you believe, you will see the result. And I'm telling you tonight that Jesus took and carried your sorrows away. You don't have to keep it, though you feel it. You don't keep it. He carried it away. The Bible speaks of joy of faith. Once you are in faith, there is joy because you know God is fixing it. God is faithful. God will never lie. God is steadfast. That's it. 2 Peter 1 verse 8. 2 Peter 1 verse 8. Sorry, 1 Peter 1 verse 8. 1 Peter 1 verse 8. Whom have not seen. Ye love. In whom though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice. With joy unspeakable and full of glory. If you believe, you are going to rejoice. Yet believing, ye rejoice. If you believe that he has carried our sorrows. Believe in that he cares for you. You don't have to fix it your own. It's for you. Believe in you rejoice with what? Joy you cannot talk about. Joy unspeakable and full of glory. Now whenever you are in joy, the glory comes. You know how to be filled with glory? Be filled with joy. You know what it means to be filled with glory? Glory means weight. When you are filled with glory, it only means you are filled with healing. You are filled with peace. You are filled with strength. You are filled with prosperity. Glory is the weight of God's presence. It's God's presence that is heavy with all his blessings. His presence abode is heavy with prosperity. Heavy with healing. Heavy with wisdom. When you are in joy, joy is carrying glory. Let me tell you something. The opposite of joy, the opposite of glory is curse. When there is no glory, there is curse. Listen, the word curse means to make light. Glory means to make heavy. You are heavy with the divine presence. To every good thing follows. But when all the glory is gone, all have sunned and fallen short of the glory. What man had was curse. You know why? Balaam couldn't curse the Israelites. He cursed them and it became a blessing. Whenever he cursed them, it turned to be a blessing. You know what Balaam said? He said he has not beheld iniquity in Jacob. Neither has he seen perverseness in Jacob. Neither has he seen iniquity in Israel. For the Lord your God is among them and the child of the king is with them. psalmist 21 23 the shout of the king is amongst them that means they were so joyful about the king because they were joyful and shout to the king they were joyful and whenever he cursed the curse but fired if you are in joy no curse can touch you because when you are in joy you are in glory when you are in joy you are in glory and when you are in glory you are in weight no curse can hit you and i'm praying that will be like him jesus said your joy no man take it away don't allow any human being to take away your joy be close you are going out someone insults you that your head is as big as a mountain and your joy is gone no he says your joy goes in the hands of any human being ask yourself is your head as big your head is not even like a molehill you think you are saying it's like a mountain no what people say shouldn't take away your joy your joy no man take it away from you he kept away apostle paul was in prison and he wrote a letter to the philippians the whole bible there is no book that uses joy as much as the book of philippians rejoice the lord and i say i say again rejoice he was writing from prison that is the most joyful letter you know where paul was in act 16 the prison he was the bible says he was the inner dungeon the inner dungeon is different from where the common prisoners are the common prisoners are actually at the top but the inner dungeon is down so when the prisoners urinate and they are human waste it comes like rain upon them that's where paul and silas were they can't even swerve the human waste or the urine because yes it were in stocks and their backs were lacerated that was the best time to complain and to mama say god this little work we came to do look at how we are suffering but the bible says they prayed and they praised they sang praises so much that the prisoners heard them what are you doing in the midst of challenges they praised what are you doing in the midst of difficulties act as though jesus carried it away don't respond to your feelings respond to the word because your feelings are not redeemed your feelings are not born again it's your spirit that is born again so you direct your feelings praise god it is difficult but speak the word of god to it believe what jesus has done and paul they praised and the prisoners heard them and two things happened and suddenly all the doors were opened and immediately two words were mentioned suddenly immediately all the chains were broken off and all the doors were opened when they praised they had suddenly they had they immediately oh praising your difficulties and they'll be there suddenly and they will be there immediately sudden doors will be open to you hallelujah he just carried it away he has borne my mother my sister my father my brother you are hearing my voice i know you have gone through heartaches disappointments in life perhaps yesterday you couldn't sleep because of things you think of as though there is no solution but i brought you good news from a far country surely he has borne our graves and carried our sorrows he has borne it he has borne it that's redemption it's time to rejoice if the death of jesus couldn't reverse it and the death wasn't complete but this is the efficacy of redemption i want you to just be happy and now you're going to thank god for every difficulty you are going through right now you are going to rejoice and go for every difficulty that's how to have the situation turn around oh kebala oh malamashu you

Podcast Summary

Key Points:

  1. Isaiah 53 presents the gospel in the Old Testament, and Paul confirms this by calling Isaiah's "report" the gospel in Romans 10:16.
  2. Jesus grew up before God as a tender plant and root out of dry ground, remaining intimate with the Father despite Israel's spiritually bankrupt condition under Herod's corrupt leadership.
  3. On the cross Jesus was disfigured, despised, rejected, spat upon by both religious leaders and Roman soldiers, and esteemed as zero by men.
  4. Jesus is the Man of Sorrows who bore our griefs (Hebrew "choliy" — sicknesses, diseases, sorrows) and carried our sorrows (Hebrew "makob" — pain and sorrows).
  5. The Hebrew word for "borne" means taking something from someone and carrying it yourself, while "carried" means servitude — Jesus fully served the sentence of our sorrows and paid for them completely.
  6. Jesus bore our sins and sicknesses in His body, but His soul was made a trespass offering (asham), meaning He took the place of the one who injured us to bring restitution.
  7. Under the law of restitution, a stolen sheep required fourfold restoration and a stolen ox required fivefold — the greater the loss, the greater the restoration Jesus provides.
  8. Living in sorrow and depression breaks down the body and dries up the bones, but a merry heart works like medicine, and joy comes from believing God's word.
