Jessel Taank's War on Fringe (RHONY S16E1 / NG:NYC S2E10)
from So Chic, Very Chic
88m 22s
The podcast offers a detailed, humorous, and deeply engaged recap of the Real Housewives of New York City season 16 premiere, centered on fashion and character dynamics. The hosts praise the show’s fresh, modern aesthetic, particularly Carol Radswell’s opening monologue—delivered in a vintage knit sweater with a smiley face and oversized text—which they describe as transcendent and symbolically tied to New York’s spirit. They highlight the surreal and imaginative fashion choices, such as Jussell’s sci-fi cocktail waitress look with fish-gill shoulders and dangling fringes, and Si’s bold, mismatched blue ensemble with a balloon-like chest detail, both of which are seen as creative yet flawed. Martha Stewart’s appearances are contrasted—her grounded, neutral look is celebrated as chic, while her later, pastel suit is mocked as a clichéd real estate fantasy. The hosts also critique the show’s stylistic consistency, arguing that while the reboot feels more authentic and daring, it risks falling into influencer-driven, overly polished branding. Haley Glassman emerges as a powerful, enigmatic figure, with her extravagant fur and sunglasses look seen as both iconic and unsettling. The review concludes with a strong emphasis on the show’s departure from the old franchise’s stagnant, caricatured style, celebrating its bold, experimental, and emotionally resonant fashion choices as a sign of a more vibrant and genuine reboot.
Given the fashion show with no fashion, it's Hazretful.
(upbeat music)
- And you came in and you're Herman Munster shoes.
- The jealous of what?
- You're ugly, let me say it. (laughing)
- They're Louis Vuitton shoes, you know?
- Hazretful. - No, you're even though
you Vuitton makes mistakes.
- Hi. - Hi. - Hello.
- Hello. - I just want to say that we are reading
the notes for the podcast this week in honor of Carol Radswell
at a smooth size 147 font so that we can honor her
and the legacy that she leaves in the opening moments
of the new episode of The Real Housewives of New York City.
How are you feeling seeing text the size of a sort of
cricket phone you'd give your grandma on screen right now?
And this is no shade to grandma's.
- It could bring it here to my eye, it did bring it here
to my eye many several.
I had the distinct pleasure of watching this episode
in New York, the city where I do not currently live,
but deeply want to live, want to space.
- Want to see this?
- And the opening bit, I found it so transcendent,
so moving, we'll get into the aesthetic that it's giving,
but I mean just in short, I didn't know
we could be back like this.
- No, we're back.
- I didn't know that it was possible.
- I didn't know that it was possible here
on so chic, very chic, the podcast that is recapping
every single week Bravo fashion.
I am your host, John Summers.
Almost at my, I'm your host Taylor Lomax by the way,
'cause I want to be you.
That'd be chic.
This is my co-host Taylor Lomax drinking a poppy.
You refuse to bow to the big poppy cancellation rumors,
which is brave of you I think.
- Wait, I didn't know that was happening.
- What?
- Wasn't there like a whole kerfuffle
that the probiotic thing was like not real?
Olly Popmark safe, by the way.
- I mean, girl, I really don't give a fuck.
This case good.
It was $2 at the--
- You're one.
- You're a bigger one.
- No, there's this like random as shipping business
that sells snacks and drinks,
like right on the block of my apartment.
I'm like, okay, work.
Yeah, well, I'm drinking ice coffee at 4 p.m.
because I'm seeing Robin on the sexistential sewer tonight.
Like a proper 31 year old millennial woman.
So I gotta stay up, you know?
I might have as well made this an espresso martini,
but we're on a podcast.
So I have to be semi coherent.
- All the ventures women do?
- You know, I feel like that's an album
that came and went, unfortunately,
much like the Real Housewives of Orange County season 20.
It did not linger with me very long,
but I am excited to revisit it with her tonight
and all of the other 40-year-old gay men I know in Toronto.
- I gotta get my ticket.
She's here next week.
- Yeah, you gotta go.
- 'Cause fuck a app.
- Fuck a app.
You know who else was fucking an app this week?
- Well, one Carol Radzevelle.
- Google Drive.
- With that browser in the woman in the window.
- In the window.
- Guys, we are recapping this week.
Real Housewives of New York season 16 episode one.
We are also going to give a brief mention
to next gen NYC season two episode 10.
And then we have a very, very, very brief cameo
of the Real Housewives of Orange County season 20
because there are two looks worth talking about.
And would you believe that they are courtesy
of Heather DeBro and the kindness of Jennifer Pajante?
Taylor, we're back with the Real Housewives of New York City.
This has been a hotly contested reboot
for the last couple of seasons.
It has been something that people have fought over.
People have died for it.
People have gone to war in the streets
and the old guard of the franchise literally
had to flee the fighting to Palm Beach.
That is how serious things got.
They are refugees in Florida at this point
on an entirely different network.
Where did you stand on the reboot when it happened
and where are you on it now going into season 16?
- So that's a great question, John Summers.
Thank you for bringing that to the table.
- I think, listen.
Has television really ever been better
than Golden Age Rony?
- No.
- No, I simply don't think so.
However, I actually considered the Tinsley seasons,
the Golden Era of Rony.
Would you believe that?
- I support that.
I absolutely support that.
I think the early seasons, we love scary island,
but it really, it really locks in around like what?
Like probably, I think around like when
Aviva and Carol come in is when it really starts
to click into place for me in a big way.
- Like Rony was always good and there were a lot of--
- It was not.
- It spots, but like seasons two through three happen
and then four through six are a huge slog.
And then there's seasons like seven to nine
and then become unwatchable again, right?
Like we have these sort of islands
in the stream of the show,
which feels very fitting with the reboot now
being sort of this isolated pocket that was kind of bad,
but is also maybe getting really good now.
- I feel very positively about the reboot
in its current space.
We'll get into the specifics.
I also think this was in the grander scheme
of the universe a very bad week for OG Rony
and like it had a bad showing on Girl Strip
between loose like co-grants and the shit
on the floor montage that we got in the clip show.
Like it was just dark, it was bleak.
I also like, I found the Golden Life trailer really
to be a kind of a nothing burger.
I was just-- - It felt sad.
- I was just like, oh, especially for Sonya.
I was like, wow, you're just--
- You're just drunk, that's swell.
- Yeah, I do not miss the old Rony women.
I do not miss Bethany.
I do not miss the-- - Well, well.
- I do not miss Sonya.
I do not miss Durinda or Ramona.
In their own ways, if you've watched Girl's Trip,
if you've watched their other outings on the traitors,
they are ruthlessly delusional to a point
that I find it almost like incoherent on television
and also just anti-social and not exciting for me.
I think that Lou being too inebriated to function
in public is like not something
that particularly tickles me anymore.
Sonya, I think, needs to stop being indulged
and people need to stop feeding the fish with her.
I don't think that Durinda is a nice
or interesting or good person
and I could never see Ramona on television again
and it would be too soon.
So on the grander scheme of things,
the Rony reboot is exactly the type of thing
that I am looking for.
These are women that are still kind of delusional
and kind of strivy, but also strivy
in that they're trying to be strivers,
but also not so locked into characters that it's boring,
which I find the old guard to be personally speaking.
I think the old guard of all,
I mean, they, as has been stated by many other people,
they've morphed into caricatures of themselves
and it's like, it is almost like the experience
of watching girls' show,
where it's just like watching them
is like watching a clip show.
- Yeah.
- For inspiration of Disney adults that love bro,
it seems like nobody ever metabolized
any of the messages of the Toy Story movies
where it's like they want to just keep pulling
Woody's string and hearing the same six lines
repeated ad nauseam.
And I don't, I don't want to see that.
- I want to see that.
- Speaking of lines that keep getting repeated ad nauseam.
(laughing)
- But J-Men are another story.
- I'm not about it.
But I feel like the Rony reboot up until now
has missed kind of the, I don't love the word,
but like the cookiness and like the weird like artistic
eccentricities that we're finally getting now,
like this season feels very idiosyncratic,
a lot of these characters.
It feels very stylish in a way that I appreciated.
- We have a lot of looks to talk about.
Everyone's really, everyone is making interesting decisions.
I'm finding, there's a lot to look at.
The interesting decisions, and I hate to be like,
the best part of old school Rony was,
the city was sort of its other main character.
But let's talk about it.
- But yeah, that the city was very present in this episode.
It's not like a, I love New York.
It wasn't like that, but it was like the backdrop of them
moving around the streets, being in locations.
Like I was really compelled by it.
I was compelled by the aesthetic choices.
And like you said, I think the cookiness of the original
where it was like, these are women who are living a life
that most of us do not get to live in New York City
was missing from the old franchise.
Because I think a lot of them were really concerned
with how they were coming off.
They cast the wrong mix that weren't really jelling.
They were all very awkward.
And I think the pressure of it being the reboot,
like really kind of created an energy vacuum,
a lot of the time whereas this one,
like bringing in Daisy and Haley feel like
the most inspired choices.
God, casting has ever made because we'll get to it, but like, Daisy opens her oven and
there are boxes of energy bars inside. Like I, and she's, wait, no, those Haley's that's
at that, right? It was Haley. Okay. Yeah, I was like, I was like, no, no, no, Daisy walks
Martha Stewart past a grocery store or like an all-d pie. Like I, with the big slice taken
out of it in the original box with a fork and knife in the box. I was like, thank you. Thank
you. Martha Stewart gets naked in this episode. You guys, I don't understand what else we could
possibly want for money. So let's just talk about, okay, we get it. We get a look from Carol.
So obviously, guys, set up a second episode. So chic. We're so excited to keep doing this.
We're gonna really try to adhere to the format of so chic and not chic, very chic in this.
We're gonna really try to be like super specific on where we land with each look. We'll
make a rating of all the looks and then we can talk about them too. But we're gonna talk
about all the fashions. Let's get into it. I have way more IDs this time. I was like way
more plugged in. Also like with things like Girls Trip and Next Gen because they're not
as popular of television shows and they're for different demographics. Like it was harder
to find some of those IDs. Also a lot of the costumey stuff and like the ski apparel
on the last Next Gen or the most recent Next Gen was kind of difficult. But this is New
York. I know these stylists. I know the showrooms that they're pulling from. It was much easier
for me to find a lot of these IDs.
-Jellys of what? You're ugly. So we get an opening monologue from Carol in an old school
top. It's like a knit sweater with a smiley face on the back. It's this like kind of
mustardy yellow with a jean. She has her long beachy wave. She's sitting in the windowsill.
She's typing out her monologue. New York City. The city that never sleeps. The city where
time stands still and speeds up and we're all racing towards a new destination. A city
that wants you to be bold and exciting. It's the only thing it asks of us. And all you
have to do is bring yourself to the party. She's sitting there typing in size 124. font
with her reading glasses on. I think that this look was so chic. It's so chic. This like
Stoner Kerry Bradshaw fantasy that she is giving me. I, oh my god, I died. I could die.
Have you been following her substagn post like Jeffrey and me post that she's been doing
where it's like the true story of my relationship with Jeffrey Epstein or whatever. Like, oh, no,
sorry. John, I think it's it would think it was like Kennedy and me. There's something
that she's on a substagn journey. The Epstein files. Yeah, she's like doing the Epstein
files on her substagn. And I just like picture her writing like her Gilaean Manus Pesto's
in this windowsill for those of you who aren't watching along. She sat in this like windowsill
with like a very plush cushion and the floral wallpaper. She has a marble fireplace. It's
very like the apartment that Kerry moves into at the end of an just like that. And all I could
think about was her iconic line to jewels in I think season eight or season nine when
they are in Bluestone Manor and they're hiding in the closet because everyone's fighting
in the kitchen slash dining room. She turns to jewels and she goes, do you see wallpaper
on the inside of the closets? That's the mark of a very wealthy person. And that's when
I was thinking of looking at her wallpapered windowsills. But no, this look is so chic.
It's like a $200 top. It's a British label kind of streetwear, youth adjacent, which makes
a total sense considering she's like hosting poetry readings at McDonald's with that one
actor Lucas Gage. You know, like this is very like, oh, this is Lucas's top. He let
me borrow it. You know, he got it. By the way, is that actually is that actually happening?
No, she, we wrote across the finger over the mouth. I think we ran a story on that poetry
reading at the magazine. I used to work for it. It was like Adam McDonald's for his new
book or something and she was there. You know, Carol, she's got six summers left and we
add one at the end of every summer. I won. I need, I mean, I need, I need more Carol,
but I was really, I was really, really happy with just everything about this. It was, it
was magical. I loved the way that this is kind of introducing her as like this kind of
like ethereal, like celestial force, like presiding over all of the proceedings. Yeah, like
this is a story she's telling us, like this season is a thing she's, right? This is
carry on her novel. This is magical. But like modern, if it wasn't historical fiction,
if it was this very like, you know, like modern current, you know, what is New York currently
fantasy? I'm, I'm picturing, I love that. The woman, the woman for the woman, yeah, being
auto fiction instead of historical fiction. Oh my god, like, like Bushwick, the woman.
Okay. If the woman was one of the real housewives of New York City, which of them are the
woman? Yeah, let's wake this up all time or currently or no currently on this current
franchise. Who is the woman? Jussell, you think Jussell's the woman? I think Jussell's
the woman. Okay. Okay. Who do you think the woman is? I was going to say I was going
to make a bold swing. I think Haley's the woman. Well, okay. Well, I think Haley has the
woman potential. I think I am watching this. That's funny. The woman. But no, I agree.
It's Jussell. We don't get it. Jussell's story so far. Yeah, it's just a story so far.
We don't get a confessional from Carol. So we're going to move on to Si who had a big
fashion showing this particular episode. She comes out in some very expensive clothing,
some that we'll get to now, some that we'll get to later in some of the group scenes.
But the big look for her in this particular episode is a Harry Winkle blue, very powdery,
very, very modern looking. And I say that not necessarily as a compliment, magda butrium
top that retails for $1500. It has like a mock neck. It has a applique that's sort of
like a twisted flower or like an organ that's been bleached in the sun on her breast.
She's not wearing a visible bra, but obviously she clearly is wearing one, but it is like
a light enough shade that it doesn't show through the top. That does look very sheer.
It's a three quarter sleeve or sorry, a quarter sleeve, which I don't love. Like it's like
the one I hate the sleeve. It's not, it doesn't go to the elbow, but it could go to the elbow,
you know, which is just it's a tough look. She has her hair pulled back very minimal styling,
but extremely visible blush, which I think is an interesting choice. She has the arm cuff,
something that we told you guys to watch it for last week. We are big, big, big in chunky
silver, arm cuff, neck cuff territory currently at the time of their styling these confessionals
across Bravo. I'm going to say this look not chic, not chic. This is not chic. This
is not chic. There's there's a deflated balloon on her chest like it literally. That's
what I was, that's what I was reaching for is the like butt end of a balloon. It looks
like you could, you know, it, but it looks like balloon hole. And they're one they call
it elephant hole or something where it makes that noise. I actually am not going to try
to make the elephant noise. They're children here. And yeah, and I remain a Christian,
a good Christian woman. I actually climbed her background to be way more chic than what
she's actually wearing. Oh, yeah. This couch is gorgeous. It's very like me that is cocaine
lounge behind her. You know, like very like stone interior. She's got a glass table.
Yeah. Oh my god. She's shaped like bodies. You know, we, it's a chic background. She
not very chic. I'll say it. Yeah. It's just, it's, it's tough. I really, I like the
color on her that I'll be nice. I'll say I do really like that color on her. And you
know, I have been a victim of a bold blush. Probably you have to as you wear blush mostly
every day. I'm assuming, right? Yes. Of course, day and day out. My, no, I don't, I need to
get more in my, I need to experiment more with makeup. I think it would serve me a bold
blush. It's a lot can work. But I will say to people, we have to start asking for our
stylists to adhere to color theory because if you're going to go for an extremely bold
gem toned blush, like a super bright ultra rosy blush with this like beautiful pink lip.
Like her glam is very beautiful. You cannot wear a cool neutral color. It makes you look
like you're wearing clown makeup. And I'm not saying that side looks like a clown. She's
extremely beautiful. But it is like a clash. I think that is emphasizing maybe my distaste
for the top. Would you agree? Yeah. I think you nailed it. Everything
else is so understated. Yeah. Like, you know, it's a, there's no. I should.
shadow, like situation going on, just like everything is very nude and beautiful and
she can simple.
And then this is just aggressive, I can't stop thinking about blue knots moving on.
I mean, that's what it is.
Moving on.
I will just say very quickly in the real world.
So as we are doing that sort of opening montage with Carol, Si is like pounding and pumping
the streets.
Waving into her door, man, she lives in Manhattan now, she's a New York City woman, and she
is wearing the most like I am a woman walking around New York City outfit that won't possibly
wear, you know, which is I want to, I just want to take everyone a moment to guess what
you think that outfit is.
I'm going to give you guys three seconds to say it out loud to this podcast.
Lightwashed denim brown leather trench coat, boom, and rose tinted aviators, boom.
Looking downward, one foot in front of the other, she's stepping into the future.
The city just asks her to be bold.
I'm going to think about that line delivered by Carol in a breather whisper for basically
the rest of this podcast's existence.
Um, no, I will say I find size daytime realness to be really nice.
That's actually like she's good styles herself well for what she is, which is like a lifestyle
influencer.
I think where we get into trouble is when she tries to elevate that.
I think that there was like a bowl cut from what I'm remembering last season in the
confessional booth to where I was like, where have you been led astray and was this your
choice?
Was there a gun involved at some point in the styling of this?
So either she needs to file her stylist or she needs to actually hire a stylist one or
the other.
Daytime looks, I think she looks beautiful here.
I think she looks so fresh and cool like she totally fits the bill of a real house with
New York City.
Yeah, I think she looks fierce, fierce, fierce honey.
So I would say that this is very chic, very chic.
I'll give her a very chic.
I'm happy to give her a very chic, yes, I, and you came in and you're herming monster
shoes.
Um, there are Louis Vuitton shoes, you know, even Louis Vuitton makes mistakes.
So I really want to briefly talk about Martha Stewart, who plays a major role in the episode.
We get two Martha Stewart outfits, okay?
We get a just a everyday neutral glamour look as she arrives to Daisy's apartment.
Also, by the way, I know that like rating job professions is not in necessarily the purview
of this podcast, but my God, the steward arriving personally to your apartment as a makeup
artist to get her makeup done whenever she needs is very chic to me to me.
Oh, Daisy.
Very chic.
And I mean, for someone, for her to be someone that Martha goes to and it's like, I want
to look better than all the girls of this party, like to have that kind of relationship
with her.
Nothing could be chic or that is the chicest profession that you could have.
Yeah.
She's like, here's to the ladies who lunch and like Daisy's like pounding on them foundation.
I'm like, wow, did you send, did you mean that New York Times article, I say?
Yeah.
The real tutorial today is about JFK junior about John by the way, doing Martha Stewart's makeup
in your tiny two bedroom apartment with a box store apple pie half eaten on your counter
while she tells you that she tried to warn JFK junior not to get in the plane two days
before he crashed it.
So chic.
No, it was the Monday before the Friday, right?
It was the Monday before the Friday.
Guys.
So chic.
So chic.
Very chic.
The chicest.
Yeah.
My God.
Martha arrives in a cowl neck top long sleeve in a like a very relaxed pant.
I would say very chic.
What do you think?
Very chic.
I love the way her hair is not done, but it's done.
Like it is just swept ever so it's a little, it's a little you say Miyaki.
It's a little, you know, it's a little combed egg our zone.
It's very like, oh, I'm just a really like neutral glamour woman with a high art fetish
love now.
And then she put, oh my God, and then the torture started then the torture started.
Okay, so she arrives looking rich, rich, expensive, fabulosity.
And then she emerges from Daisy's daughter's bedroom wearing a pastel yellow pussy bow,
pussy bow blouse top with matching trousers and a suit jacket and snake skin monoloblonic
pumps.
Not chic, not chic, it is striking.
I was like, I was like, okay, I actually mean this with all love to them and all hate
to Martha.
You know the like real estate dolls in Texas, those two real estate agents that are trans.
This is something that they would wear in one of their videos, hawking like a McMansion
in Austin to me.
Yeah, yeah, as as a southerner, this is very familiar to me, this exact fantasy, what
job fantasy does this give you?
Because there's another one that comes to mind, a job fantasy, like what woman is wearing
this suit?
Who is buying this down at the blouse barn?
You know, I think she man, she's like the manager at a country western bar to me.
Oh, she runs it like the Navy.
Aha, you know, not Leva, who's the weird woman that Leva hires in season two of Southern
Houses?
Oh, never see again.
What was her name?
But you know who I'm talking about, right?
Of course.
By the way, you were just at, you were just at Republicans.
I just went to Republic Garden in Lounge and girl, they got me fucked up.
I didn't see anybody know it was like a Sunday afternoon, I was just killing time before
a flight, I had to catch.
DJ Maddy Restonning.
And parents?
DJ Maddy Restonning not making an appearance.
No, it was just, it was just two boys working.
I think one of them was this very pretty gay boy that I'm like, watching this space for
if he's going to be on a new season.
He seems like someone they would want.
Yeah.
Okay.
Watch the space.
Well, I was going to say she looks like a news anchor.
And this is very, oh, well, it is very, it's very news.
It's very prairie news anchor and she's here to tell you that they have a very cute video
to show you of a Chihuahua finding its owner's lost keys in a park at a daughter's fifth birthday
party or something, you know, like, and then that's you by top of where.
And they show the video and then she looks at her coworker and she said, now, wasn't
that nice?
You know, like, it's just, it's going to be so hard these days.
And it's just nice for things to be nice.
Don't you think?
Okay.
Now, speaking of the torture, I have to let you guys know this next look.
I spent what was probably four hours attempting to ID this.
And no matter what I attempted, this garment defies logic, explanation, it defies reason,
it defies order, it defies any known combination of words that could possibly be constructed
in the human language and all known languages in the entire universe in perpetuity forever.
I'm speaking of Jussell and I'm speaking of her very brand new, very brand new confessional
look.
I've spoken too much already, Taylor, I want you to try to attempt best you can to without
actually explicitly stating what it is, describe this outfit to the listener.
She is, she's, so she's a cocktail waitress, I'm going to go ahead and start there.
She is a cocktail waitress, but she's not of this world.
She's on perhaps another planet or at least something with a vaguely sci-fi bent to it.
She's a cocktail waitress, but she has to perform later.
And she's performing in, she's performing in a jukebox musical rendition of the Odyssey.
She's Penelope.
I just reminded of Michael Cors, she's a stewardess in the Republic of cocktail land.
No, can I tell you what I have immediately thought of, she's, she's a passenger on
a bus in the fifth element.
Why?
I, I, I cannot begin.
I cannot begin.
And by the way, for you guys, if you want to see all of these looks, please go to so chic
very chic dot substalk.com.
You have them all posted there, but this look is both, bohemian and aerodynamic, it looks
functional.
Yeah.
It's, it's very like, it's bohemian.
Kimian and aerodynamic.
Okay, I'm gonna attempt to describe this outfit.
Now, go for it.
There is a structured shoulder,
the kind that they do on drag race,
you know, the like pointy armored power ranger shoulders.
So we've got that going on, but they're layered.
So it's like a layered structured shoulder,
sort of like the gills of a fish, right?
Like she's a leather, she's a white leather fish
with gills on her shoulders.
And then it's a crop top with a matching pant, skirt,
TBD, but from the gills are, it's a deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, by the way.
So we like basically are cut down to the belly button.
So she has these structured shoulders
and then from the structured part are these dangling fringes
that are connected from one shoulder to the other
that loop all the way down to her pussy.
There's about 30, 40 of them in this like sort of white,
leather fabric.
She has a fierce, fierce bob that's also sort of messy, right?
Like it's like a Gracie Abrams bob
with a Zoe Deschanel bang.
And no jewelry except those like big chunky like dome,
like button like earrings, you know,
the kind that are like this is a big gem,
but it's also kind of chic.
She's giving an order in a sci-fi movie
where you get plastic surgery that makes you stupid
to get them henchmen to like be escaped ugly duckling
that's going to join the revolutionary army
that brings down the Republic of Hot People, right?
Like she's a, she's an arms dealer
in a children's movie about the Hunger Games or something.
You know, like there's, there's something here that sci-fi,
but also a little Bohemian, it's odd, it defies logic
in a truly fascinating way.
It has, you know, this is a lady who,
she virtue signals to the robots.
She's overly like the robot.
When the little guys come to deliver her food,
you know the little robots that deliver the food.
She's overly thankful to them.
She's like really projecting her love and compassion,
but only for the robots, and never.
- The robots finally turn.
She's like, "No, get away from me."
I'm like, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
- That's rude.
- Direct, like straight down the barrel of the camera,
like gasp, hand over a mouth.
Yeah, that's her.
- Now, I found her to be very relatable
because she goes from dressing like this
to wearing a relaxed, straight leg boot cut stone wash
gene and costs blazer.
That is described as a tan, no neck, camel, suede,
blazer from costs, $470, and a sock heel in a matching tan.
I just thought that was nice.
What did you think of this look?
Okay, so the first one, by the way?
- So chic.
- So chic.
(laughing)
- I mean, how long did we spend talking about it?
- So chic.
- So chic.
- This second look?
- Not chic.
- It's me when I wear the outfit
that makes me learn about size divorce.
- Okay, it's very real nice.
She knew that this scene was not about her.
She was tipped off about that.
So I was like, I want you to come over
and I'm going to drop some exposition.
- And she said, got it, I have a cost blazer
that I just picked up at the mall for just the occasion.
I just, by the way, cost, just because of what it is,
the fact that I can shop at costs,
it's this brought her back to earth
after the sci-fi realness in a way that I'm like,
she is, you're right, the woman.
She is absolutely the woman,
her and her regift in candle from Christmas.
- So I am immediately going,
is this a regift from Christmas?
It's fine.
Even Zen's side is like, nope, nope, I'm going to clock it.
- I'm going to clock it, by the way,
then being best friends, iconic now.
At the very end of the episode, we're back.
We're actually never been this back before
because she hosts a Chinese New Year deemed party
that is like kind of a zodiac themed.
She is wearing a Norma Kamali crop top turtle neck,
long sleeve jersey shirt with Manolo Blonic shoes,
costume burgundy leather or pleather.
Let's be real gloves that go up to her elbows
and an AKNVAS taffitist skirt that retails
for about $900 after tax, which chopsticks in her hair.
- Very chic, there.
I mean, she says it herself.
I think when Daisy and her man come in
and they're in black and she goes,
I knew all the chic people were going to go in black.
I was like, oh my God, these gloves are fucking ridiculous.
I cannot, I'm obsessed with her.
- I could try.
- Very chic. - Very chic.
I tried to ID the gloves.
Now she tagged the Frankie shop,
which is like a brand that comes up a lot this episode.
She tagged Norma Manolo, the Frankie shop
and the AKNVAS taffitist skirt.
I'd already ID those other things,
but I couldn't figure out what exactly
was coming from the Frankie shop, which makes me think
it was the gloves because they do sell gloves.
They just couldn't, they didn't find
these particular gloves from them, but I found
a bunch of other ones across the internet
that are like $18, $20, which I think is so awesome for.
- I wanted to, I wanted to be serving chat GPT.
I want you to find me red leather gloves.
And chat GPT is like, yes, Jessel,
I found these ones that slay boots mama
and she goes, do you hear that puppet?
These gloves slay boots chat GPT says,
I'm literally going to be so, she got this party.
- Meanwhile, he's spending an hour making butter noodles.
- He's filming, he's filming in the corner and he's like,
today I'm going to try the new Grillo Pickle sandwich
from shit fuck sandwiches on the lower east side.
And she's like, Pavette, be quiet.
Please, ah, come with me.
I don't want to be the Grays.
I'm trying to fix your puppet.
Like the VIP list.
- Pavette was recording like an over-eager video
of him with a suitcase walking into a Delta lounge.
Pavette filming himself front-facing style
to explain why he got kicked out of the US open
for hosting his credentials online.
So yeah, I love this look.
I think it's so stupid that she basically
hosts an astrology-themed party to call Erin a snake
and then also wears a look that again mix her look
like the bad evil woman in a Nickelodeon sci-fi
children show.
Like, what is that?
What's that look?
I conjured this up on my other podcast,
but you know, like the pajama sleepy time town
or whatever.
- Oh, she's so lazy town.
- It's a very lazy town.
- Yeah, it's very lazy town.
- Let me just lazy town his drag.
- It is drag.
It is drag.
- She's doing drag.
I love it.
Oh my god.
- My god, love.
Okay. - Very chic.
- Very chic.
- You want to talk about ladies?
- Yeah.
- No matter how many.
- Chanel's you borrow.
You will never ever be a lady.
- Okay, who do we have next?
Take us away.
- I don't know a better person than this next reason.
- No, no, no, no, no.
- She is the mother that anyone would want.
The friend that everyone should have this.
This ladies and gentlemen,
please welcome to the state.
Haley mother fucking glassman.
(sighs)
- Oh my god.
- How aware were you of the John and Kate plus eight stuff?
Like you were alive, right?
- I was alive, I was aware vaguely that it was happening.
I had watched sporadically John and Kate plus eight.
I grew up in South Carolina, so TLC was high culture.
But I didn't have a super finger on the pulse
of what was happening.
- You were like voting age like I was
when they were getting divorced.
(laughs)
- No, I was elementary school age.
- Scary.
- No, so Daisy's here with a head transplant
and a Kate leather jacket there.
- Haley, you just called her Daisy.
- I know, I swear I said Haley.
- I swear to God you said Daisy,
and I think this is the second time you've done this.
(laughs)
- Okay, well, Haley.
- Anyway, leather coat button to the top.
- Top.
- Leather coat, trench coat, button to the top.
She's sitting here looking like,
honestly, kind of like a bad bitch if I'm being honest.
- She looks like WWE Deba.
Back when those were still a thing that they called them.
- Oh my God, yeah, she looks, this is why,
I think Carmella thinks she's giving.
- Speaking of WWE Deba, you mean "Rock of Love"?
(laughs)
She is, you do not want to cross this woman.
She is, I would, this is the kind of woman
that, you know, she walks into the room
and just everyone shakes.
- Yeah, this is it. - The room quakes.
This is the $3,500 Kate Leather jacket
that makes John Gosling cheat on his wife
and break up their family of eight children.
Did you see that apparently they are still friendly,
him and the new wife and her?
- I can't talk about it.
- That's too dark.
- I can't stare back in this space.
I will also say-- - This is the Leather jacket
that makes that happen.
- That's the Leather jacket that makes that happen.
So she's an 11-year marriage for sure.
She has a new girlfriend that she's not introducing
to the husband.
She does fuck women.
We learned that at one point,
a girl was strapping her so hard
that one of her double D implant breasts broke her nose
and then we get no follow-up from that.
She delivers this news in a two-parter outfit.
She shows up in the real world.
By the way, this look,
I'm actually gonna be real, not chic.
And do you know what it is for me?
I want you to guess why this look,
this Kate look is not chic.
- Why the Kate look is not chic for you?
- I think you think it's not chic
because as we see throughout the episode,
it is not her.
That is my, this doesn't feel true to her.
- Yeah, absolutely.
- Why do you-- - It's the hair.
It's the hair.
- Well. - Well, it's extension.
So you can see, let's teach you a lesson here.
So sometimes guys,
you're gonna walk into a salon and they're gonna say,
hey, Missy with the warm highlights
and the honey blonde and the, you know,
sort of earthy brown roots,
can we give you ashy blonde 32-inch
keratin tip extensions?
And what you have to do when that happens to you,
is hold a gun in the air and fire it off four to six times.
And an even number is really important, right?
'Cause an odd number leaves room for doubt
about what's happening,
but an even number is exact.
It means you mean business.
And I need you to say to everybody in your shot,
put those 32-inch ash blonde keratin tips extensions
away and give me something
that don't make me feel something fucking real.
There's a fire alarm going off in the back
and we're not even cutting this
because that's how important this is to hear.
Okay, that's how important this is to hear.
Does that happen to you before?
The way you locked in for that.
(laughing)
No, please.
My husband.
Gun and all, please.
Extend the way that.
Oh my God, there's so--
We have almost the art of extensions.
They do not blend.
Her hair is beautiful.
Her hair is natural, it's healthy.
It's silky, it's satiny.
It has a beautiful finish.
And then she has just hung straw from the ends of it.
Is what it looks like.
You can so blatantly obviously see
exactly where her hair ends and they begin.
It is, yeah, it's heinous.
It's really distracting.
Yeah, that's terrible.
I was engaging with that on more of like an ethical,
like what it says about her soul.
Well, what it says about her soul is that she shows up
in her very first scene in the real world
in an outfit that I'm dubbing so chic.
She has--
I'm dubbing it very chic.
Per caps hugely expensive like thousands
and thousands of dollars worth of fur
and Balenciaga shield glasses, so chic, so chic.
This is so stunning.
If you think about like the life art of housewifeery
and that she knows, okay, this is how I'm going to be
and introduce to the world stage.
And what I want to do is be wearing this insanely fabulous
opulent fur sunglasses, which we find out later
or a huge thing for her.
She says she has the sunglasses fetish.
Yes.
And she has a little cabinet just with all of them.
And she's rollerskating around the city,
Barry Kelly-Colour and Ben Simone in the best way,
the best parts of Kelly, smoking a joint.
Just out-- she-- this is very chic.
I love it.
She's having a great time.
Yeah, I love this look.
And I also got to say the fact that we immediately
see her from this into a alloyoga, like 47 necklace,
like a yoga pant hitched up her pussy crack
with the like second apartment she lives in
until she hates her husband with the power bars
and the fridge and all of it, I was dying.
I hear it was at it.
She's suddenly a mother of two.
Yes, she suddenly, she doesn't participate in PTA things,
but she sends enough money that no one really makes a stink
about it, like, and she shows up every so often.
And she's always dressed precisely like this.
Yeah, she looks like an enemy on Wisteria Lane
in a reboot that's probably not happening
with desperate housewives.
Oh, my God, could you imagine?
What could you imagine?
Now, I just wanted to briefly talk about, by the way,
this look, not chic.
Not chic at all.
And also, looks like a completely different person.
Like, in every single one of these looks,
like, this is where I was getting confused.
She looks like a different person every time I see her.
I can't-- Yes, I did like--
I have face blindness, specifically for Haley Glassman,
because then we get her very, very chic old school photo
at John Goslin, where she has the honey blonde on top
with the dark brown underneath, which
was all the rage back then, right?
Because you would, your hair and you would see this dark, dark,
dark brown underneath all this blonde, with also, again,
shields on glasses, a champagne glass,
and pearl buttons on an aquamarine top.
I died, I died with a visible one, I died.
Rock of love.
This is rock, I mean--
This is rock of love.
This is, I mean, her shirt is very Jeff probed,
like a survivor of fish.
[LAUGHTER]
Cute way.
She is-- the dream of 2009 is so present here.
I feel optimistic about the world looking at this look.
Yes, I love it.
I love it. I want to go to there.
OK.
Wow.
This next one, Ms. Daisy.
Ms. Daisy.
Ms. Daisy.
Oh, cool.
It's not too much to write home about.
I really feel like it's super sad what
we see of her apartment in the back, because her actual apartment
is very small.
Like in her confessional Haley looks like she lives in a palace.
And in her confessional, Daisy looks
like she lives in a shoe box, which
I found to be kind of rude.
She looks like she lives in literally a hotel room.
This is ridiculous.
In battery park.
Oh, my God.
Daisy.
Also, like, she looks like Lori Grunier here.
Like, everything about this is just Lori Grunier.
I can't.
So this look--
It's a wardrobe NYC top.
If you've ever been to Nordstrom, you've seen it on a rack.
It's a cowl.
It's like a kind of like a shawley type neck.
I wouldn't call it a cowl, but it's like a very fitted top.
But then the front of it is super drapey and not fitted.
She has these big chunky earrings, no visible bracelets.
I do actually really like her glam.
Like, she obviously knows it.
Oh, the glam.
Her hair is like so soft and silky, but this look is not chic.
It's not chic.
I'll say it's not chic.
She's really not going to be a confessional warrior,
and I'm accepting that.
It's not chic.
It's so business.
It is.
Oh, my God.
Like she's really about to like, she looks like she's about
to like try to pitch me on something like AI company.
This is ridiculous.
I can.
I'm going to say, I'm going to say clearly that I do think
that she is unfortunately going to probably suffer
from influencer brain, brand brain, where she's coming on the show
with like a very clear vision of who she is
and how she's going to sell herself
and how she's going to be popular online.
And I worry about that.
I'm not necessarily saying that it's like the very worst thing
in the world.
I'm just saying it's something to watch out for.
By the way, that she has styled herself in these looks.
Does that make sense?
Yeah.
It's very of a piece with like the Alex Earl fantasy.
It feels very, I mean, it's very like TikTok business coach.
It's very, yeah, it's very TikTok business coach.
It's a little like, and that's kind of, I guess,
girl boss 2.0 if you think about it.
It's very tickens.
Yeah, it's very cool.
I mean, Laurie Grenier, honey.
And it's, you know, I expect that from New Roanie.
Yeah.
That's kind of what I'm used to.
And part of why I'm like loving Haley so much.
But I will say that Daisy, I've seen a lot of chaos
from her and like, you know, the way that she,
like the way my jaw dropped when she said scores.
The way my jaw dropped famously, because obviously,
you know, that's the, that's the hustler's club scores is.
They love that her inside worked its course.
I gagged.
I got, I was like, oh my God.
And so that, you know, she has enough going on
that I hope that she is able to lead into the personality
of it all more than her.
But she does, she has potential for influencer brain
in a really scary way.
Okay, and loving the sunglasses.
I just, you know, 25,000.
Yeah, that's right.
next we have the cast photo.
And I want to get through some of these cast looks in the cast photo because there's a lot here to talk about so
Let's just go from left to right and then we'll give our rankings at the end and we'll just go one after the other
So I'll read first and you just read what's next so first up
We have Erica who we haven't gotten to yet, but we will in a rice of Vanessa mini dress
It's like a gold shimmery dress. That is something that Megan draper would wear in the back half of
Mad men it has a cut out for her belly button with like a structured sort of
Applicate around it. This retails for $3,600
Next up we have the woman jussle in a look that Joan did not ID. I could not find the ID for it
And it's probably for the best good not ID. She has her Kim Kardashian bob today. It is slicked back
Tight it has a little bit of a almost like a cartoony and to it perfectly caught into place and she is wearing this
Gold beaded gown. She continues to look like a supervillain
It the bead is
About like what is that like her upper thigh it
Transitions into a fringe that looks to be floor length. It's like a nude gold and I'll just like
Blenson. Oh, God is she has these bright red nails. I guess because we're doing the apple. I just click Jesus Christ
Bright red or if they've just turned that color because of the gold filter that they've put over the photo
But whatever is happening is I don't like it. I like it
Size in a city green evening gown that is these gold rectangles on mesh
It's a very classic look. It's like something you could imagine Bob Mackie making for share
The designer for this makes custom evening wear and he says that he's available and I think it was Neiman Marcus
But I couldn't find any proof of that anywhere. So TBD. I couldn't get a retail on it
But I'm assuming it's a couple thousand. She looks fine. I think that this is the best we have seen her look
This particular episode and we'll continue to be the best we have seen her look this episode
Next we have Carol now. What's Carol wearing this killed me by the way?
Carol Carol is wearing a nine con dress that she does not seem to particularly like or feel good in
She looks miserable. It is a
leopard print
Mini dress with a structured skirt
For some reason and it is so many
It is it could not be more many and her hair is oh there's this also like there's a
Black belt in the middle of it that is she's added by the way that is not part of the look
I did find a stress and there is no black belt
Oh
Carol honey that belt is
It is
It's in the uncanny like it's too big to where it like it does draw attention
It can't just be functional, but it's not big enough to be anything
It's just no this look can I tell you it's so like
2008 Sadie Hawkins dance most awkward girl in your eighth grade class made her mom go and buy her
The cheapest Betsy Johnson dress they could afford at the mall by the way
I was this girl just
And her mom said it's a little too racy and she said don't worry mom
I'm going to put a belt with it and then she did and her mom
Who is very nice and super supportive of the daughter her journey her the of the daughter her journey is going on of the journey her daughter is going on
Said okay honey now. Let me put your hair up and out of your face so it doesn't get sweaty
And she said but mom my hair is so beautiful. Can I at least have something at the front two little strands perhaps and her mom said okay fine
Now just remember to take
Abigail's mom's landline and call me when you get home okay and tell her no staying up after 10 and she goes okay mom but like
I'll let you know okay. We might go to Denny's buy
Okay, by the way this dress $4,500 next up is Daisy in a Jenny Packham dress Jenny packham another big player on this episode
Lots of Jenny packham across the board
$5,000 dollars. It is an Oscar's dress. I mean, that's like the best you can say it is tinsel
It is beaded. It is gold. It is shimmering. It is metallic. She has been literally wrapped in party city tinsel
I like it. I like it, but I'll save my thoughts for when we do the final roundup who's next
Next up we have my close-in personal friend Erin Miu-Litchie in
She has a white button to go on that she is metallic today she's
I guess she heard that jussle was giving sci-fi and she was like I want to do that too. I can do that better
So she's the cyborg she has a metallic what it looks like a corset or something under this is insane
And then she is wearing a
$2,000 ribbon skirt
That is a bunch of
metallic circles that are hanging and catching the light in just the worst way
She looks like a cyborg had to pretend to be a schoolteacher and then the cyborg overlords were like
How do we make this cyborg look like a schoolteacher? And they said I know let's put a white button up on her
But then she's but then the cyborg was self-aware enough to know that she didn't like the way that the shirt was sitting
And so she said can I at least tuck it in
And they let her
The white pump is what kills me like just the the white
Stella McCartney pump I'm assuming is what kills me
But also it's very like you know when you're a little kid and your mom is like away and you're with the babysitter
And you like go into your mom's closet and you're like I'm gonna dress up like my mom today
And so I meant a doll
Yeah, you're you put on like a skirt that's too big and her like
Work shirt and her heels and you're standing there like the the cuffs and sleeves of this shirt
By the way you guys you can't tell but they're too long they're like both past the end of the skirt
Which is high-waisted to be clear. It's a mini
But also like brushing the ends of her fingertips
So it's a little like you know Ariana Grande wearing her sleeves too long
So it's like she literally looks like a little kid that tried to get dressed up for an adult for the day
It kills me. Next and last is Haley in a Sabina mosaic of dress
She literally I think got this on Farfetch for $400. It's gold. It's lame. You've seen it before
She's bronze to the gods. She has way too much hair in her head
Okay
Let's just go left to right. Let's just quickly say chic or not chic
Erica not chic not chic
jessle
Not chic not chic shy shy shy
Very chic. Okay for a so chic
Carol not chic
I almost want to say very chic but it's not chic
Daisy I would give this also a so chic
So chic
Aaron
Not chic not chic
Haley the least chic anyone has ever been
Yeah, not chic. She looks good. I won't lie, but no
Okay, and then last but not least we have one last group shot to get through
This was at jessle's astrology party
I want to focus on sigh and Erica
Daisy has on a white button up dress that is really like nothing to write home about but she looks beautiful
So that's that she looks chic not so chic not very chic. She just looks chic
Erica
Tom Ford dress it is one of their snake skin dresses. There's snake skin metallic minis where it has a scoop back a little bit high in the front
It has pleading across the bust with a gathered waist long sleeve
It's a very tom Ford outfit if you have seen a tom Ford dress
You've seen this one. She has little strands and a gathered bun
sigh is in a
Jersey knit sports max dress with a layered
sequin and a cowl neck lots of cowl next this episode. It's a mini dress long sleeve
It's the kind of sequin for the listener where if you brush your hand over it it like gets all bunched up
It's like been layered like fish scales my least favorite kind of sequin
So I just got to say Erica. We got like two seconds of her
I need two less seconds of her. I do not find this outfit chic. I do not like it. She looks like she is on the real
Housewives of Dallas at a charity gala. She does not look like a chic New York City woman
I do not believe her. I immediately got bad vibes from her. I do not trust this lady
And I do not trust the way that she puts herself together that said this I mean that's probably like a thousand dollars
I mean the thing that we know about her is that she's married to a tech billionaire
And had a very apparently high profile wedding. I don't know. I didn't hear about it by a pyramid that just I was oh yeah the ejection pyramids
So I'm at the Katy Perry Nile river bank rebrand event in front of the geese of pyramids. Oh my god
I was invited to that event.
And you didn't go.
And I didn't go.
Having principles, I don't find either of these kind of things.
I mean, I don't find either of them chic.
I also, I mean, it's just so literal to get the invite
for the Chinese New Year event.
That is not even celebrating the year of the snake.
It's actually celebrating the end of the year of the snake.
So I don't know why both of them clearly had--
they were like, oh, like, you know, size isn't snake skin,
but that's what she wanted to evoke clearly.
It was like a snake skin fantasy.
I don't know why their minds went there.
On top of being so literal, it's just like not correct.
I do like, though, that they both have
the exact same interpretation of the thin finger strands
of hair with the gathered bonnet
that back in a sequin dress.
Like, I find it funny that they both independently
arrived at the exact same outfit.
They share one brain cell, clearly.
And also, this isn't in this photo,
but I just want to talk from one about the deeply structured
coat that Si wears before going into the function.
Yeah, I almost threw something at the television.
It was-- it's the type of thing.
Thank God we didn't have to see it for more than, like,
5, 10 seconds.
But it's going to haunt me.
I screamed.
Yeah.
Bad.
But yeah, neither of these are chic.
I will say I think Erica's is, you know,
obviously a better garment than size,
but I don't like either.
No.
Yeah, I did not love it.
I legitimately did not love it.
Not chic, either of these.
And Erica said she rented this, right?
Yeah, she rented this, which I find very funny.
Considering the whole billionaire thing.
Right, it was like, what?
Anyway, Erin is wearing--
Yeah, we've-- no, no, Erica rented her look, excuse me.
Oh, not Erin.
No, no, no.
I thought we were pivoting to Erin.
Oh, yes.
Erin did-- wait, wasn't it Erica that said she rented it?
Erica rented the look and thought.
Anyway, Erin is dressed like she's
in a modern dance number set in an office.
Yeah.
This is--
Erin is dressed like she is in--
I'm trying to think she's dressed
for like a Tape McCray music video or something.
It's so weird.
It's like a little bit like our teacher
was on the mood board a little bit with like the very painterly,
like smocky kind of thing going on.
It's so strange.
And I think she looked in her jewelry box
and found a couple of necklaces all tangled and said,
I'll have all of them.
And she-- and no rhyme or reason.
And then on top of all that, we're
going to do an Olsen tuck.
Don't really know why, but we're going to--
We're going to do an Olsen tuck.
OK, so she is in a Frankie shop shirt that
is a like pinstripe blue with a very, very wide collar
on button to the navel with sleeves rolled up, 47 rings on,
watch on layered necklaces, really severe speaking
of Kate Goslin, Kate Goslin Bob, and if you guys are kidding.
I'm actually not kidding.
It is a A-line Bob that is so wild to look at with short red nails,
red lipstick, a lot of bronzer.
It's a tough look.
It's a tough look.
The Frankie shop shirt is $200.
And those necklaces, you would be correct in identifying
them as attempting to be Chanel.
They are actually $40 Zara necklaces,
bringing the total of this outfit to probably around $275,
which I found very funny, considering
the iconic up five armchair from B&B Italia, which
is a very iconic armchair.
You guys have seen it where it's like kind of a bulbous arm
chair with like a spherical ball ottoman attached to it
in a sort of bright red stripe.
It's designed by Guy Tono Pesco.
I think it's Pesci.
I actually don't speak Italian apologies,
but I did work at a luxury furniture showroom that was next door
to a B&B Italia showroom that sold this.
And it was like their number one seller.
If you're like rich, you own this armchair,
because it's like sort of weird and fun.
And it shows people you have a personality,
like those awful Bohemian floor cushions
that everyone had in the pandemic,
and all the influencers bought to show off
and like lounge on their floors in.
It's very that.
But for like slightly wealthy New York women
and like tech millionaires in San Francisco,
I hate this look.
It is not chic.
It is not chic.
It's not chic.
And I really, you know she thought
that this was her like crazy artsy room.
Like there's this lake.
What is this painting on the wall behind her?
I mean, there's these royal purple couches.
This nothing about this room makes a lick of sense, except.
Like she thinks this is her like Julio Torres moment,
like architecture design wise.
That's what she thinks that she is doing.
Like I'm so crazy.
Woohoo.
I hate all of it.
Not chic.
And then she's also in this wrinkled Vivian Westwood dress.
Okay.
Vivian Westwood is wrinkled sometimes.
That is just like what happens.
But this is not wrinkled in the way
that Vivian Westwood dresses are wrinkled.
This is wrinkled in you rented this on pickle
from a girl that makes more money than you somehow.
And it showed up in a garment bag
that you had ruffled on your uber that you changed into.
It is a beautiful dress that she looks very bad in.
So it's a mini dress that is a very iconic Vivian Westwood shape
where it's an off the shoulder
with a sort of asymmetrical look.
It has like a sort of corseted waistline
and that it's like very like structured and gathered.
And it does that thing in the front where it like
arches down into a V that then the skirt kind of falls off of.
And the skirt also asymmetrical pleated both directions
across the front.
And it kind of is like a high low moment
but also a low high moment on the sides.
Like it's very like Vivian Westwood chaos
in the red signature to the theme.
It clearly was like she said show up in like black,
golden red and everyone obliged.
Not chic.
And can I say what I think is the least chic thing about Aaron?
It's her fucking die job.
I just I hate it.
It is so dated.
It is so dated and uninspired.
And I'll just say it unflattering.
It is unflattering.
It just looks so like it could not be more basic, more real.
Tate McRae is actually a really great reference to flip.
She is absolutely the Tate McRae of the show.
It is just so there's not even anything resembling
like a point of view.
She is just like I liked how I mean,
this is what she thinks she's doing.
She's like I want to be Rachel on friends.
That is what I think I'm doing with this hair color.
Yes, but she's not.
She's not, she's not Jen.
No one's Jen.
I think everyone needs to give up on the idea
of being Jen for Aniston.
You're not.
She's one of one.
Wake that up.
Yeah, no, I just don't like it.
I just don't like it.
I'm sorry.
I just like it.
I don't like it.
This like fits weird on her.
She looks uncomfortable in it.
You know, it's just, it's strange.
I don't like it.
Oh, I don't like it.
Not chic.
Not chic.
Not chic.
Now, wait, did you know that Erica is a creator for Equinox?
Like I didn't know that, but in my heart, I knew that.
In your heart, you knew that.
So last in all, we have Erica's confessional.
And there's two things here that I wanted to point out
more than anything.
I could not find an idea on this dress.
It looks a little rico in Z to me,
but I just don't know if that's the idea.
And I couldn't idea it as Rick,
but it does spiritually give rico ends like deflated balloon dress.
But there's two accessories that I wanted to, you know,
basically keep our eyes out in line
with sort of the things we're paying attention to
on this podcast.
What do you think they are?
Well, I see, I love this.
Joan school, like a Joan school for girls.
Okay, guys, talk.
Well, first of course, if we look on her,
okay, if it's her, it's her left arm on her wrist,
you will see as we saw on Lisa Barlow
on the ultimate girls trip,
you will see one of those big ol' junky silver bracelets,
massive, it looks like,
I mean, it looks like a monitor of some sort.
It this is wild.
Yeah, yeah, it's like an ankle for your, it's a wristlet.
It's not a bracelet, it's a wristlet.
It's a wristlet, sorry.
There's one more.
There's one more that is in, it's in the same vein, I think, as the wristlet.
- I mean, is it, is it the necklace that doesn't come together?
It's this little.
- It's another cuff of a necklace,
a big silver ring necklace that sort of connects,
but doesn't, it's just this trend of jewelry
can I just say, I'm not loving it.
- No, it's not good.
It's not flattering.
I don't understand what it's doing.
It just, it looks like it cuts off circuelt,
not actually physically,
but like the vibe, the funcish way,
that is that it like cuts off circulation in a weird way.
- Yeah, it just, these looks like break it up in a big way.
I remember talking to Sierra Miller about her fashions,
and she also was saying that like,
this is a big trend for her,
and you can definitely see that like for these like young,
New York sort of like influencer,
TV fashion creator types,
they're all getting their inspiration from the same places.
Lisa Barlow is watching them on TikTok,
and they're all wearing bracelets, cufflets,
chunky like ring cuff necklaces.
I just, I'm not loving it.
The dress for those at home,
it is a like again, like a deflated balloon.
Imagine she put a balloon on,
and then popped all the air out of it.
It's a red balloon, structured neckline,
sweet heart neckline, strapless, crinkly plethora,
it's fine, nothing to write home about.
She looks beautiful.
Her glam is gorgeous.
Whoever her makeup artist is, she should stay with them.
They've clearly figured out her colors.
The look though, Natcheeq.
- Yeah, she looks hot, but Natcheeq.
- Fashion show with no fashions, how dreadful.
(laughing)
- Now, we did not talk about next gen neck last week,
and we had to premiere this week.
So we're gonna speed through next gen, you guys.
What did you think of the finale of next gen?
I wanted to hear your thoughts.
You're Gen Z, so you have probably a lot to say on this.
- Well, first and foremost,
I think that he manipulated me with Jesus.
- I loved it.
I cannot believe it.
I think Ariana is such a compelling figure.
She is, it's everything that I loved
about seeing her mother on television
and none of the things that made that such a dark experience.
All of the like, kind of this exceedingly impulsive nature
that she has is fascinating to watch.
Ariana certainly the woman of next gen NYC,
if we're using that framework, she is the woman.
- She's so magnetic, I love her.
And also, Charlie is hot as fuck.
I get it, like, sorry.
- If I'm her, and Liam says I love you,
after we've been having a show, man's like,
I'm fucking Charlie, I get it.
- I'm fucking Charlie and I'm pulling out that same gun
from earlier and firing four or six shots.
- Like, wait, did you know that's also Spike Lee's son?
- Yes, through the. - What are you?
- Lemon, she threw a lemon at me.
- Yeah, he threw a lemon at Liam,
was like, stand up, King.
Like Liam, he's a sweetheart, but I'm like, girl.
- I wanna see Liam's DMs after this show,
just to be like, who's hitting you up?
'Cause there is a type of woman.
- There's absolutely a type of woman.
- That sees a man like Liam on TV
and gives him four children.
- I mean, it's like, I like Liam better
than I liked Caleb Love Island,
but it's like the Caleb Love Island crowd.
Like, I'm sure it's gonna go crazy for him.
- And he has short film.
- His short film.
- And it's. - Carrera.
- I don't know anything about that.
I don't need to go there.
- I'm just gonna give you looks.
Since you are the Gen Z expert,
I'm gonna let you do the ranking.
I'll describe the outfits.
We're gonna go rapid fire here through this finale.
This is season two, episode 10.
Okay, we have Ariana and Charlie
coming back from Canutling to the finale party.
Ariana is in a rhinestone corset
with a leather mini dress, thigh high boots
and a black leather trench coat.
What do you, what's your verdict?
- Well, I think that she looks like,
I mean, she's a backup dancer
at an Ares tour drag show during like,
like when they're doing like the reputation section
is horrible, not siege.
- Oh, I thought this is so chic.
- I do not like this at all.
- We also have her mesh white pump
with a matching nude boostier dress
that is in a mesh with a very delicate, soft wave
to her hair.
What's your verdict?
- It's boring, but it's so quintessentially her
that I'm gonna say it's so chic.
She looks hot.
- So Charlie's big confessional look
for the season was a Jean jacket
with a gray hoodie underneath
and nothing in his and no styling to his hair.
What is your verdict?
- That certainly not chic, but trade.
- Okay, we also have a look
that you were gonna say was your favorite look
of the night last week.
- Last week.
- It is Mo hair like fluffy white shirt
from the ski trip.
What's your verdict?
- My verdict is and walk with me.
I think of reality television as performance art
and fashion as an integral part of that performance art.
Charlie knows damn well what he's on this show for.
He knows damn well what he's doing.
And he has kind of a almost like a mythic villain status
over the group.
And so I like that this gives him kind of
an abominable snowman fantasy.
And for that reason, I think as his character goes,
it is very chic.
- Very chic.
- We had a mirror in this like a champagne
Lemay wrap dress with a sort of,
it's very greasy and it has a tie knot neckline
with just like a scrap of fabric covering the boobs
and a messy bun, a sort of Pam Anderson bun
with the finger swoops in the front.
What's your verdict?
- I think it's so chic, she looks lovely.
- Yeah, 100% pure class, our first lady, gorgeous.
Georgia is in a dusty blue bridesmaids dress
with an off the shoulder neckline
and a poorly fitting bust.
She has no blush, lots of bronzer
and a hot pink lip with pin straight hair, black hair.
- Nothing about this works.
Nothing about this makes any sense,
especially in the context of everything else in this look.
- That reason it's very chic for me.
- This is the Georgia show.
- Yeah, we have two looks from Gia
in the confessional booth to talk about.
The first is a Miss Circle Burgundy lace strapless
corset top with a matching Miss Circle Burgundy faux leather
midi skirt, it is a burgundy lace with a new delusion mesh
underneath with a little frilly cup.
It's that classic corsetry aesthetic that you guys know.
It's that classic corsetry aesthetic
that you guys know I hate so much.
What is your verdict on this?
- Enough is enough.
Stop immediately.
And by the way, while we're at it,
if you're gonna be on next on NYC,
you need to live in NYC, not chic.
Next we have Gia in a naked wardrobe brown long sleeve
jumpsuit and a naked wardrobe brown draped mini skirt
with matching brown thigh high suede booties.
So this skirt, by the way, you heard it's a draped mini skirt.
So a picture just a brown mesh mini skirt
with a long piece of fabric attached at the waist.
She's cosplaying as the high locks athlete
that shit herself, but specifically the piece of toilet paper
that she used to clean herself up with.
- My verdict on this, she looks like she is going
to film content when she is her parents Thanksgiving,
not chic.
- We have one other thing to talk about,
which is her bucket hat and trench coat
that she wears walking through the eye heart podcasting lobby.
What's your verdict on that?
- You know, she looks really boomsickle.
She looks so happy to be in this hat.
- Yeah, so chic, so chic.
- Okay, we have a random newcomer, Kendall,
who only made an appearance in the back half of the season.
She has on a structured brown work pant
with a accompanying structured top.
I found this look chic.
I included it because I thought she looks very chic.
She looks a little com de gason, I was into it.
- I just wish I knew who she was.
- Yeah, but she's just like--
- You put a picture of a random woman here.
I recognize that as the next item I see said.
- Yeah, I was like, okay, so there's a woman.
Her name is Kendall.
We will see if we find out anything about her
at the reunion.
Now, we have to-- - Is she invited?
- Who knows.
We have two looks to talk about
from the most recent episode of The Real Housewives
of Orange County season 20.
The first is a Chanel three-quarter sleeve sweatshirt,
worn by none other than Heather Dubrow,
who has--
Bumped the ends of her hair, like she's fran on the nanny.
I love this woman.
I love everything that is happening with her aura this season.
This is so, yeah, no, I said they can never make me hate her and I love that.
They could never make me hate her, she, she just looks like a fun gal in this.
I love it.
Yeah, I mean, she always wants to dress like the nanny.
It's like her number one personality trade is that she thinks that she
should have been the nanny and she dresses like it, too.
And that's something that's aspirational.
By the way, we used to be a proper country that valued things like that.
Yeah, I also love that they split the girls up.
I didn't realize that they'd split them up.
But Heather, Tamara, Gina and Carmella go to solving while Jennifer, Emily,
Shannon and Vicki go to Palm Desert, which is like they go to hell.
Now, there's only one other look to talk about, which is, can you explain the
kindness of Jennifer Pajanti here?
So Jennifer Pajanti, they're going golfing today.
They're going golfing to set Missina.
They are going golfing and Jennifer Pajanti in all of her wonderful,
delight joy at the world said, I know just the thing to wear.
And so she's wearing a white visor with in pink on this.
What exactly does that say, Joan Summers?
I would not get a read on it, but I could not get a read on the visor.
But there's hot pink script and it says a word on it certainly does.
And she has her visor on.
Let's imagine it says Barbie because that's spiritually what she's trying to do.
It's spiritually it's Barbie.
It's it's Barbie pink. And under that, she is, okay, I don't know if it's like the
filter, but all these OC women always look sunburned.
First of all, it's both the filter and the sunburn.
It's both the filter and the sunburn.
She is wearing, if you look up white dress in the dictionary and, you know,
take all Lana associations out of that.
Take any, you know, association you have with the concept of a white dress,
just like chat GPT white dress.
She's wearing that.
And then the pester resistance, you really buried the lead here.
Well, because I just have to, I just have to let us prepare to sit in it.
A Barbie pink, our guy, oh, cardigan, that we have identified as being a $30
Amazon pink Barbie our guy, cardigan, golf cardigan.
Very see.
Guys, when I was like, I was like, okay, this is going to be something that pisses me off.
I just know that this is going to piss me off.
And when I got redirected to an Amazon link for the exact cardigan,
$30, it's an Amazon basics.
Yeah, no, no, it's just a random Amazon brand.
Oh, it's just like one of the non brands.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, all capital letters like J and VXU, pink, our guy, our cardigan.
We got always, always one of the letters is doubled and vowels are in places.
Vowels don't normally go.
Yeah.
After seeing Heather's $2,000 Chanel cardigan from, by the way, Chanel 2017.
This is like, she's owned this.
This is like her clothes.
This is from 2017.
She pulled this out of the closet, thousands of dollars of a Chanel sweater.
And then Jennifer Padronty comes rocking up in a Barbie costume that she bought on Amazon.
I said, don't piss me off, but we have talked for 10 minutes about it.
So everyone say thank you for the kindness of Jennifer Padronty.
Everyone, thank you, Jennifer Padronty.
Thank you, Jennifer Padronty.
Until next week is this week so chic.
Okay, like we did last week, I think it's only fair.
What is your most chic, very chic outfit of the week?
Katelyn Glossmann entrance look, the fur, the Balenciaga sonnies.
I know exactly who that woman is.
I want to hang out with her, right this second.
My most chic outfit of the week, my very chic is jessil as the dictator of a sci-fi mining facility.
I love world mining colonies, dictator.
I pray to God, she tops this.
I pray to God, she tops this because I don't know how she will.
I need to see her in this look, walking pavita round on a leash.
That is the fantasy, that is his fantasy.
That is his fantasy.
She's got her little baton.
That's actually how we films the narrate.
That's how he records all the narration for all of his pickles.
Sandwich video content.
Let me cut up my cucumbers, spend an hour cooking my butter noodles.
She makes him wear this while cooking butter noodles.
That is the concept of jessil,
pacifying pavit and this outfit in particular is so normal.
Okay, well, thank you all for listening.
You can find all of the looks at so chic, very chic dot sub stack dot com.
We were beset by technical issues this week.
We had a fire alarm test going on in my building for the back half of this episode
in case things come off slightly disjointed in the edit.
We don't mean it.
Thank you so much to everyone who's left a review, who's messaged us.
We're getting such really positive feedback.
We're really trying to hone in.
We're trying to be concise, but also specific.
I am toying with the idea of eventually splitting these just into two episodes
every week because we do want to talk about so much.
And I feel like people want more content always.
We'll see how it goes.
But for now, thank you all for listening, Taylor.
Where can people find you?
What are you working on?
You can be anything to plug, I guess.
Oh God.
I have things that are dropping, but I don't know when they're dropping.
Okay.
Well, maybe so watch this space in an ethereal sense.
Also, I just want to tell everyone you look so chic today.
You look very bright, you look very sunny.
Your hair is gorgeous.
Me and me and my grinder, Madonna shirt, me and my fire island pines pantry shirt.
Yes, gay people.
Gay people.
Yeah, I just got this in the mail yesterday.
I had a random package from Grindr.
Okay, arm, okay hair, okay, wig.
Showed out my friend Harry for designing this, by the way.
Okay, well, I think I go out on a three to one gay people.
Do you want to?
Oh, I would.
Can I?
Oh, my God, okay.
Two, one, one, gay people.
Bye, everyone.

Summary:
FAQs
Carol's monologue sets a nostalgic and artistic tone, blending personal storytelling with New York City imagery. It features a handwritten text at a large font size, symbolizing a playful, surreal, and deeply personal opening that honors Carol's legacy and the show's reboot.
Si’s outfit, featuring a blue mock-neck top with a floral appliqué and a bold blush, is criticized for its sheer, unbalanced design and the unflattering balloon-like appearance of the top. The hosts find the styling overly aggressive and out of harmony with the rest of the aesthetic.
Martha’s appearances are seen as chic and symbolic, especially her role as a makeup artist for Daisy. Her transition from a neutral, elegant look to a pastel yellow outfit with a suit and pumps is described as striking and full of ironic, culturally familiar fantasy.
Jussell’s outfit blends sci-fi and bohemian elements—like fish-like shoulders, dangling fringes, and a fierce bob—with surreal functionality. It’s described as defying logic and representing an otherworldly, artistic vision that stands out in the show’s fashion landscape.
The look is deemed not chic because it feels inauthentic to Haley’s character. The hosts argue that the hairstyle (with extensions) and the outfit lack authenticity and appear staged, undermining the character’s realness and emotional depth.
The large, exaggerated font size in Carol’s monologue is a symbolic and humorous gesture, representing the surreal, almost cinematic nature of the show’s opening. It reflects a mix of nostalgia, critique, and celebration of Carol’s influence on the franchise.
