what is up daddy gang it is your founding father alex cooper with call her
jennifer lawrence welcome to call her daddy thank you so much for having me i'm so happy you're here
thank you i'm very happy to be here i have been really looking forward to this conversation
obviously you are like one of the biggest movie stars of course of course go on just so well
yes and then i feel like you really became known for just not being afraid to say what you're
thinking yes i do feel like you're the type of person when people meet you they kind of already
feel like they know you and like you're their best friend yes do you feel like people overshare when
they meet you no nobody ever overshares more than me two seconds ago before the camera started
rolling be like all right so the cramps in my crotch what am i doing again i brought that up
okay fair fair that was for me
okay yeah but you don't think randoms overshare with you too much
no and i don't think i would notice like i'm just so confused about boundaries that okay perfect
yeah i don't think it would even cross my mind that'll make for good podcasting today hopefully
it will do you feel like you've ever had a really weird interaction with maybe like a fan in the
wild who thinks like oh you're my girl like let me just hang with you for a second or do they have
boundaries nobody in new york wants to be the the dork that's like oh my god i'm a huge fan you know
so everybody's just like i was i was like coming out of a movie and was stuck on a very slow
escalator in front of a girl that was like asking to take a picture with me but i just got a peel
i actually got a peel too close to this i don't know if you can see the bumps you look gorgeous
thank you um and so that was just uncomfortable because i was like no and then we were just stuck
together and then you started oversharing you're like because of the peel yeah yeah i got a peel
on my pussy
he's like i literally hate you and i'm not a fan anymore and i never asked you for that
i can't believe i ever do people usually call you jen or j-law imagine if i had people in my life
that call me j-law my best friends all call me j-law um and if somebody accidentally calls me
jen i'm like what hold on it's j-law to you um i should refer to you as jen though right
yes jennifer yeah miss dr lawrence um yes you can refer to me as jen yeah i like the the j-law
thing it's cool i hope j-lo is not mad no yeah like have you ever been in a room with her and
it's been like oh we're both tense yeah sure why not yes and we got in a huge fight and i took her
out no i could see that because i was like i'm saying j-law and then like my husband earlier
was like j-lo and i'm like j-law yeah it's like a good person to get mixed up with totally yeah
i'm not yeah i know she might be but i'm not um your hair looks gorgeous today thank you and i
just wanted to congratulate you on that because you are adding a new business to your resume i am
you are coming out with a new hair care brand called mess uh-huh where did the name come from
it was it was the first name that i ever like kind of came to the table with and was just like
i want to have a hair company called mask like it feels true for me
um not to brag um and so when i finally started working with archaea we started like you know
getting getting into the nitty-gritty it was just kind of like well it's obviously not going to be
called mess and like so we went through and i was like okay like we went through thousands of names
like a big company and everything and then between copywriting and you know 86ing certain names that
we didn't like we did land right back at mess at least it's kind of validating you're like my idea
was right all along are you actually freezing i'm not as cold as i am scared are you
nervous um no i'm not nervous of the interview i just i can feel your pregnant energy and i'm like
wait what is pregnant energy um quick wait i feel so slow i feel like i'm really quick because i
want to keep up with you oh should we slow it down sure my pregnancy brain is just like i feel like
when i'm doing an interview i've got to be quick because like i'm now of course i gotta lock in
because if i lock out for one second i'm not coming back i'm gonna be gone well you know what i have
so of course i think you're fast because i'm like what so let us just say disclaimer today
if we say anything so stupid out of pocket something they could get us canceled it's not
our fault no it's literally our husbands like scientifically literally we're perfect yes we are
speaking of mess i'm gonna give you a messy scenario because like you said your life you're
a little messy and you also have like good takes so i want to give you a scenario and you're gonna
tell me how you would handle it and i'm gonna tell you how you would handle it and i'm gonna tell you
how you would handle it oh okay okay here we go a friend starts seeing a guy and she is head over
heels for him so in love obsessed can't stop talking about him but you've kind of like noticed
a couple weird things like example he's constantly paying for dinner he's so generous but no one has
any fucking idea what he does for work i hate that are you gonna bring this up to her you just gonna
let her live in her happiness i wouldn't bring it up to her
unless she asked and asked in a real way because there was obviously asking in the not real way
you know in a group as a joke or whatever but if she was like what do you think and do you think
this is weird then i would be like i don't know do you think it's weird yeah i think it's super weird
right like first put it back on her to temp check but most i think that's a good point it's never at
the brunch it's never with all the friends where she's like what do you think about garrett and if
you're the idiot that's gonna be like honestly it really susses me out it's like no no no she's
actually asking you to tell her how much you like garrett like yeah you read the room it is always so
although i guess it's getting harder with like ai and all this new i feel so old now with like all
of the you know changes um that like if somebody can't tell you what they do you know in like under
60 seconds it's a red flag but now i'm like is it like right it's kind of like what we're living
today like i'm a computer
what
and i'm just like okay and then we believe them of course what am i gonna do you feel dumb that
you don't know yeah so you just like i can't drop a pin so of course you're a computer neither can
i that actually is actually really confusing um what is the worst red flag that you've ever looked
in your past overlooked overlooked oh wow a guy that i was obsessed with uh was gay and told me
he was gay oh and you were like and i was like no you're not you're gay right now
just give me a chance okay that's good but so you didn't end up together obviously and like no we did
okay that's my husband i'm just kidding eight years yeah that'd be great okay good to know
okay is it okay to tell a white lie to get out of dinner with a friend if you are just too tired to
go i mean if a white lie to get out of dinner is wrong then i don't want to be right i don't i have
my husband has for years it like baffles him like if he wants to get out of something he just says
like hey can't tonight you know goodbye like i i can't even like he's direct and i'm just like i
broke my foot on a piece of glass we're rushing to the hospital there's a tornado in this city
for the first time in decades like it's just always so long and dramatic because i need to
make it believable but now i've gotten into a new place in my life where i just don't
make plans i just say no to absolutely everything and i haven't seen anyone in my life for years
like why do we do that my husband has the same thing where he's like yo man like been a really
crazy week like can't make it like got it i got want to just stay in with the wife tonight and
i'm literally like how did you do that like are they so mad which is weird because like it's
normally something is like a projection but like i i never get mad if somebody cancels on me i
obviously love when people cancel so i don't know what like i i picture the person on the phone just
like what right you know how could you and me i like love when people cancel i'm like oh perfect
there's nothing better than a cancel plan if you and your husband are you know you got a night
without the kids what are you doing sitting in silence on our phones okay
i hope it's so big you know what's so beautiful about that answer is it's so real and i've seen
like celebrity couples like out at lunch or something and they'll be both on their phones
and like you see the comments that people be like wow
they like hate each other i'm like that's what you do with your boyfriend at your date yeah
like what right no no okay what are we gonna talk about how was your day i know exactly how your day
was i know exactly what happened yeah and don't you dare ask how mine was because have you not
been paying attention it's actually true um okay your friend has been working on a script
as a passion project and sends it to you for feedback you read it and it is just god awful
terrible what do you say
i mean god that's tough i mean i think if if i'm not in a position where like i have to make it or
something and it doesn't it's not it's no skin off my back then i think i would just be like
it's amazing i love it this is groundbreaking yeah but if i if it was like i had to produce
it or something i would be like justine hated it i loved it justine hated it justine's watching
this literally like yeah that's my life yeah yeah always blame someone else yeah you don't
make the brunt of that i wonder how many people in my professional life are gonna watch this and
be like oh my god justine's always justine hated my work too it's always you yeah um what is the
most brutal piece of acting feedback you have ever gotten in your career my mom
at the premiere of The Hunger Games,
said she could tell in every scene when I had my period.
Water retention, I guess.
Imagine a day of me being on camera
that that doesn't go through my mind.
You now, like, will never film when you're on your period.
You're like, I'm so scarred.
Don't put me on camera.
Yeah.
Oh, well, yeah, that's it.
I'm like, well, I'll only be able to film for about 20 days.
She's also, like, the most supportive in the bet
and, like, the person I'm so excited to tell exciting news to.
I don't know if, I think all moms do this,
where you're like, guess what?
And they just say the most, like, the craziest,
like, it will never live up to it, you know?
I'm like, guess what?
And she's like, oh, my God, you wrote a movie,
you're winning an Oscar for best writer, director,
and you're acting in it and just won an Oscar for that.
I'm like, no.
But I love that you love me.
Yeah.
That's what I was thinking about when you were coming here.
I'm like, I know some of your story,
but, like, I feel like maybe some people don't
and you kind of have an interesting way
that you got into this industry.
So, you were discovered on the street
when you were only 14 years old
in New York City with your mother,
which is, like, such a flex to get, like,
recognized in the street.
They're like, this one, this one's going to make it,
which is great.
Yeah, it was just so pretty.
They just were like, she is so stunning, gorgeous, incredible.
I walked on the street and everybody was like,
oh, my God.
They're, like, passing out.
Yeah.
Like, this is the most stunning woman
I've ever seen in my life.
So, they do that.
Yeah.
And then your parents let you move to New York City
with your brother.
To pursue this career to some capacity.
I accept this abridged version, yeah.
I need you to turn the AC down, please.
Okay, turn it down.
I'm going to die.
No, no, no, turn it down.
I'm okay.
I'm, like, my nose is running.
I'm getting sick.
Like, my throat hurts.
You know what's so. You're going to leave here
and be literally sniffling so sick.
I will send you my doctor bill.
You know what's so crazy?
Is I feel so great.
I know.
I was pregnant.
I was, like, in my third. First trimester in the winter of New York.
And I was just flying down the FDR
with all of the windows down so hot.
Because when you're pregnant in the winter,
the heat is on everywhere.
Always.
And so I couldn't go to restaurants.
The layers.
Because I was just like,
it's going to be 100 degrees in the restaurant.
And push it towards me if you can.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like, perfect.
Yeah.
If not, I'll get you a blanket.
Okay, so we're in New York City.
You're a model, basically.
You're stunning, gorgeous.
Yeah.
You're from Kentucky.
So when you go back to Kentucky
before you move to New York,
and you tell all of your friends,
like, I'm moving to New York City to pursue this,
were all of your friends like,
oh, that's so classic Jen?
Or were they like,
what do you mean you're doing this?
Well, they all thought I was lying
because I was a prolific liar.
Oh, you're kind of like pathological liar, huh?
You're kind of like. Not anymore.
Nothing you say this entire interview is honest.
I'm actually from Arizona.
No, I don't lie in interviews
because I just assume everybody can, like,
look something up.
And, like, there's nothing more embarrassing
than getting caught in a lie.
Let me tell you, in elementary school,
I told everyone I had a wooden leg.
And when they found out, I didn't.
Did you not wear skirts or shorts ever?
No.
Wait.
That feels like a lie.
Keep going with that.
People thought you. I'm like, no, I didn't wear skirts
because I went to a religious school
where it just keeps going.
So you said that you had a wooden leg.
Mm-hmm.
So that kind of paints the picture.
I was going to say, like,
what were you like as a teenager?
Well, me as a teenager,
it was a little more. It was a little more complicated
because I was completely unsocialized,
as anybody who's seen me in an interview can see.
But, like, I left Kentucky,
left school when I was 14,
and worked and homeschooled.
I mean, I didn't really homeschool.
But, um. So I wasn't around kids.
I was a little weird.
So, and were you comfortable with adults
or you were just, like,
not comfortable with anyone?
I'm sure I was comfortable with adults,
but, I mean, I don't think adults were like,
wow, what a cool, what a great hang.
Like, wow.
And I definitely don't think anybody was like,
she's mature.
Okay, that's fair.
So, as someone who didn't grow up, though,
like, you didn't want to be an actress
at, like, six years old.
You weren't like,
I'm made for the movies.
No, it was never something that, like,
really crossed my mind.
I, um. Just, I just wouldn't have thought
that it was a possibility.
Um, looking back, in retrospect,
we can see signs.
Like, I would, like,
walk out the door and, like,
ring the doorbell as, like,
different characters,
like, asking to use the phone,
and, like, you know,
we can look back through, like,
photo albums and be like,
ah, an actor.
Yes.
What did you want to be
growing up?
I thought I was going to be
a, well, a doctor,
uh, an interior designer.
Oh.
I just, I have no gift
towards that at all.
Um, these are just, like,
jobs I knew about.
Um. Range.
That's good.
A doctor.
Mm-hmm.
That also can decorate your house.
Okay, so you end up
becoming an actress, obviously,
and I, today, kind of wanted
to go down memory lane.
I love that you're getting
warmed up.
Mm-hmm.
Physically.
Mm-hmm.
And verbally.
Yes.
Okay, so I'm going to
show you a picture.
Give me your first reaction,
and then we're going to
get into it.
Okay.
Hunger games.
Okay.
You're 20 years old
when you get Katniss.
Uh-huh.
I need to know what you
remember about going in
for reading this audition.
Oh, God.
Um. Skinny jeans.
Um. I remember
stopping to buy candy before
and eating it in the parking lot,
and then it was at the director
Gary Ross's house
in his office above the garage,
and he cried in my audition.
So I was like,
that seems like a good sign.
Did you think you had the part?
You're like, just good signs.
Um. No, I don't think I thought it.
Yeah.
Especially because you're so. You're so, um. What's that word?
I don't know how to word. Suspicious?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Like, superstitious.
Superstitious.
About, like, yeah, you're like,
I don't want to jinx anything.
Yeah.
And did they film it?
Like, have you ever re-watched
your audition tape?
They did film it,
but please don't really. I don't ever want to see
one of those.
Oh, my God.
Ever.
But if it made people cry,
like, Jen, this is good.
Like. I don't care.
I don't know what I was wearing.
I know it wasn't good.
You don't want to go back to that.
You don't want to relive
the glory days.
And, like, why did I, like,
stop my car and eat a bag of candy?
Like. Well, it clearly worked.
Yeah.
Obviously, The Hunger Games
did have a massive fan base
because of the books.
Like, were you at all nervous
once you got cast?
Because fans are very intense
about book series.
And it's a lot to live up to.
That's not what made me nervous
because I don't think
I, like, knew about that.
Yeah.
What made me nervous
was just the way. I was afraid that it could
negatively affect my acting.
I was, like. And just, like, my personal life
because, like, the one thing
that I was always sure of
when I was younger
was, like, I want to be a mom.
And I was just like,
this just looks so different
than, like, you know,
doing some indies
and, like, doing a film here.
Like, this is huge.
Like, because Twilight
had, like, just come out.
And everybody saw what that was.
And so it was really just
more like,
how is this going to change
my life
and my acting career?
And then it did forever.
And then. But as we've established
from 14,
I just kind of do things.
I just keep. You're like, it's fine.
Everything's going to be fine.
I'm like, I'll figure it out
when I get there.
Do you remember
your first day on set
with the entire cast?
Yeah, I remember day one.
Yes.
Day one.
Because we were doing, like,
the reaping stuff.
Not I volunteer,
but, like, that set.
And prim stuff at the house.
Oh, my God.
And I remember
I was doing a scene
where I was, like,
in a. in a wash basin
in, like, a very old house
in North Carolina.
It was, like,
a historical house.
And I saw a fly
and I punched it
through a window
and shattered the window.
And everyone was like,
why did you do that?
I do remember that
from my first day.
Sorry, but what was the question?
The vibe?
Well, I don't know,
but why did we. Why did you do that?
I don't know.
It's just, like,
something moved me.
Okay, so did you. And did you feel, like,
very confident on that set?
Yes.
Why do you think that is?
Because that's, like,
your big first, first job.
And, like you said,
like, you were aware
of how big it was going to be.
Like, where do you think you. I think because I had made
the decision, you know?
So it was. I had taken the time.
I thought about it
before I said yes.
I asked them to give me
a few days, you know?
And I thought about it.
And then I had months
to, you know, prepare.
And it was a lot of, like,
physical preparation
and stunt training
and, you know,
a lot of archery and stuff.
So by the time I got there,
I, you know, I was like. You were ready.
Yeah.
I do remember, like,
obviously how intensive it was.
You're like,
I'm actually doing
physical activities during this.
Do you remember
what was one of the craziest scenes
where you're like,
I can't believe I'm doing this
as an actress right now?
Yeah.
There was a scene
where I'm running down a mountain
and there are, like, fireballs
being, like, fired at me.
And none of it was CGI.
Like, I mean, I guess the. But, like, everything really was
exploding and catching on fire.
And you couldn't. If you strayed away
from your trail,
which is not clear
because if they, you know,
put red tape or something,
you'll see it.
So you just kind of have
a general idea
of, like, where to go.
And, like, if you're wrong,
you will blow up.
I feel like I love this job so much.
This is so fun.
Yeah.
I'm like, thank you.
Okay, next.
Catching fire.
You and Josh.
Me and Josh.
That is my baby.
I don't know if this is controversial.
to say but like i was kind of like team gail totally now now we could settle the debate here
were you team pita or were you team gail um i was team gail
even after he killed my sister still writing for him yeah do you think that that will cause
controversy on the internet i can't say because i said that i was team jeremiah during the summer
i turned pretty and the level of hate that i got was bigger than any controversy i've ever been
involved in in my life talk to me about that i don't i it literally was like i feel like i was
just like rage baiting like slightly because like i did it with my friends it was just like i like
jeremiah you know and they'd be like ah i thought it was innocent it what people were like you
you
should die you should die and it is wild to insert yourself in that especially who you are
oh so you agree with them no i just i'm shocked that like i do like that you just like sling it
you're like oh i'm just gonna tell you what i think but it's it's definitely it's definitely
the take that's not i guess i could i guess my response to yeah give me the to you um
thank you so much for your feedback i guess my response to your feedback would be
how on earth would i have assumed that such a thing would cause such i like i've been involved
in a lot like and i've pissed off the public like many many times i've i'm old i've been famous for
decades it never occurred to me that that would be the number one where people were just like
i wish you have never been born it's similar to if you were someone who got involved in love island
drama just don't actually view was award-winning journalism when he
showed up in his overalls i knew we had gold on our hands yes yes it was it was it was something
for culture you were perfect you are perfect thank you okay i obviously know famously liam
hemsworth claimed that you would eat tuna and garlic before kissing him why why did you do that
i i didn't like he's just i think that like i don't even know where what to say liam um
i we are filming for many months and filming takes a lot of time he made it seem like i that's
just like something i did like on purpose like i would just like i would eat tuna and tuna what
have you um do you like tuna i do i do too tuna salad tuna melt but it's really controversial
why you're gonna get canceled again really why is it controversial i feel like every time i tell
don't you kind of feel like when you're at a restaurant or you're with people and of course
it's like your husband because he knows like whatever but if you're with like people that
maybe don't know you and you're like i'll have the tuna whatever there's a little side eye people
kind of look at you like you're getting the tuna i think people like think it's kind of nasty oh
i'm sure it is i need food to taste processed you know you're gonna muddy up that tuna yeah
with a bunch of relish mayo zest crackers sorry go on okay you and josh are gonna be
in the new movie what was it like to go back to oh my unbelievable it was so crazy because it was
it was the same crew it was the same camera guys the same ad who i've worked with a million times
too because i love him um and josh and woody and like it was so emotional it was like josh and i
like didn't walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other like we it was so beautiful that's
really cute i'm excited and woody obviously came through the window of my hotel room uninvited
because it would not be the same it wouldn't be the same if he listened to boundaries and
used a door obviously not i'm gonna show you this next one it's one of my all-time favorites
um that's silver linings playbook did you have any idea when you were filming that movie
during the process of it how big it was gonna get no of course not i mean you never really do
unless you're making like the hunger games or whatever but um no no
and i felt the whole time like i didn't i i don't get it like what is this movie about i don't get
it yeah i guess you kind of like leaned into that though with your character right you just like you
went into you're like honestly whatever you took from that perfect yeah so at the time obviously
bradley was one of the biggest and obviously still is one of the biggest actors in hollywood
what was it like meeting him for the first time
um i was definitely nervous he was like he was in the hangover and if i mean what everybody here you
even born when the hangover came out excuse you i was a big fan of the hangover and so yeah he was
like the biggest celebrity i think i like ever met at the time and i was like watch this hold my beer
you guys then go into dance rehearsals right because you had to do a lot but what was the
i was confident there's our girl and i'm so bad after we finished filming i had to do adr
to to say like yeah i'm not that good of a dancer but i like
it it's fun it makes me happy because i was my dancing was so bad and it needed to be like
explained in the movie and if you had put a gun to my head while we were shooting i would have been
like i'm really really good i'm an amazing dancer they're like hey jen we're just gonna need a
backup line we may not use it yeah but and you're like i know i'm like reading that i'm like i'm not
that good of a hey okay that's good to know so it humbled you a little bit but not even okay i was
for character development what else can i dance in looking back what was one of your favorite
memories from filming that movie when bradley and i had like a big makeout session like at the end
of the movie and i i said um aren't you so sick of kissing and he um didn't like that
but i think he laughed but it just was funny it was one of those moments where you're like trying
right and the other person's like oh you're like oh well no i thought i'm sorry are you saying i'm
bad yeah but but he laughed next and last lol um lol lol um that is mystique way um on the first
the first one first class x1 first class and the amount of prosthetics and costume and makeup and
all that was crazy so that for for first class which is what that one is um it was all body paint
and glue
and it was like it was eight hours every every time no um and ticklish and you you've had airbrushing
yeah imagine 12 tiny cold compressing airbrushes all over your body no i'm on i'm a hero and no one
will ever understand what i went through and it's like no one talks about it enough no that's why i
brought it here today thank you i wanted to give you your moment thank you but how many times and
you've gotten more comfortable advocating for yourself in moments in your career where you're
like oh i don't really want to wear that or i don't want to do that or do you still feel like
you're kind of malleable in moments when people need you to be what they want you to be i think
i think you you have to be malleable that's part of the job you know so lynn ramsey for
dying my love wanted me to cut my hair and get like mullet bangs and like
diet platinum blonde and like that's the gig like you know i ended up loving the hair but i didn't
think i was going to be able to do that so i'm going to be able to do that so i'm going to be able to
do that so i was going to um yeah you you have to be malleable i think i i'm definitely i speak up
more because i'm also aware of the place that i have in the industry so like there was like
an instance on set where he crew members who weren't approved when i was like doing nudity
you know we're on set or something and i came down hard on it purely because if if we're not
setting that kind of principle at the level at which we're doing it right now you know
then what on earth is going to happen to an 18 year old unknown you know if she shows up and
there's people that aren't approved it's you know she's going to be in a position like do i say
something and get a reputation for being difficult or do i just let these people that i'm not
comfortable seeing me naked it's maybe see me naked so it was important to me to explain that
to the to the people uh why that was not okay it is great i also think it's like such a weird
thing where especially as women you're like oh wow i you slowly gain more
power as you have more success in this industry and power i use lightly because like still as
women it's like they yeah because you can't use it no no then they'll they'll get mad at you yeah
but you're like oh maybe i like could say a little something for these people in this position maybe
then why you couldn't have said that back all the way maybe like hunger games let's say where you
were just starting off and i think something that i have even struggled with in my career is like
we have to be aware of our likability like where do you find the balance now where you're sitting
today of like
stressed as a woman in this industry about if people like you or not it's it's you can't let
it influence your decisions you know like getting into hair space is like i'm sure people are going
to have a lot to say and i think that's i think it's scary this is the first time i'm doing
something that i have i i really don't have experience with this nothing to like kind of
fall back on because i've dealt with stress in the film industry and there's nothing to
not really a scenario that I'm handling
that I haven't handled before, or in some capacity of some sort of, and this is new for me. So,
but I feel really confident. I feel really
too excited, like to move forward with it. And I mean, I, it has the transition to me makes sense.
It doesn't have to make sense to anybody else. But when I was starting out, like for the mystique
that the other part of that character, Raven, they dyed my hair five different colors just on
the screen test. Like in a day, they dyed my hair red, brown, black, and then platinum blonde.
How did you not lose all your hair?
I don't know. Because I was using meth.
Yes. Back then.
20 years ago, I was using it. But it was obviously like fried. And I had no agency.
Over my hair. It wasn't until I got, I was in the Hunger Games. And I really wanted to use a wig
because I was tired of dying my hair brown. And they were refusing to give me a wig. And so I had
my first tiny little protest of giving myself the worst haircut anyone has ever seen in their life,
which was the pixie. Famously. I do you know how embarrassing it was to be on a date with a
my now husband, I'd be like on a second date with him. And I'd be like, has he seen those pictures
of me? The pixie? Yeah, having a crush on somebody and know knowing that those pictures are out on
the internet. Anyway, but he didn't know you when you had the pixie. He didn't know me then. So you
know, I was just like, I have a crush on you. Please don't Google me. Please don't Google me
like those will be the first photos that come up. So once all my hair was off, growing it back,
I just became obsessive about the health. And so I don't know, I'm excited by it.
And it's I have a lot of like, creative energy that I'm excited to like, expand on. So
and I know that they're good. I know that the products work and that they're good. So that
obviously is a huge relief. I know that part. I can sleep at night that will stand the test of
time. If you got a great product, then you can kind of sit back, relax and you can enjoy the show.
Okay, let's transition. I want to talk to you about motherhood. Because you know,
we've been referencing our brains a little bit in this interview. And I appreciate you meeting me
there. Totally. I think that's something a lot of people talk about is like their readiness to be a
mom. Right? Like, oh my gosh, how did you know you were ready? And did you feel ready? And there's
been so many people asking me that question. And I was curious for you personally. What was that
experience? Like, did you know, okay, now's the time?
Um, I wanted to be,
a mom for so long. And, you know, didn't find the right person. And then I found the right person.
And then we were married. And we wanted to be like married for the right time. So I kind of
like I wanted it so badly that I kind of like waited for him to be like, okay, it is now an
acceptable time for you to ask me for a child. And I was like, please. But I felt like ready.
But I also like, there's also I understand when people are like, you're never gonna feel ready.
What were you completely unprepared for?
You know,
you know, your vagina will bounce back, your butthole won't.
I don't know if I needed to hear that before giving birth. I'm like, wow. Wow, Jen.
You're unprepared for all of it. Yeah, all of it. And everybody's like, your instincts,
your instincts, you have no idea what you're doing. There's no ever. I remember women being
like, you'll be able to hear the difference with the cries. And then I'm like, I can't hear the
difference with the cries. Like, I'm such a bad mom. Jen, what's gonna happen to my butthole?
I'll tell you. I will tell you when really once I can get into a heated place. No, I'll show you.
You know what, like, I guess no one said that to me yet.
Really weird. No, no one said that to me. And I've had someone be like, do you want to see my
birth video? And I'm like, no, because I don't want to. I don't want to know yet.
That person sounds really, really gross and weird.
You literally five minutes ago. But I, I, yeah, I'm okay. And we're gonna circle back before you
leave on just like, okay, what you meant by that. Okay. And I need like three minutes. Yeah. And by
the time you explain it to me, can you lie to my face? Because you are a good liar. Whatever you
were with the honest truth is lie because I still got I got to do it. Yeah. And I don't want to be
giving birth things. What did you know about my ass? There's no going back. That thing's coming
out. I know. Okay, how is it change your relationship? I don't know. I don't know. I don't
with yourself. I mean, I just, I'm so ruled by guilt. I'm trying not to be I'm you know what,
I'm not ruled by guilt. Why? Like, what do you mean? You just, you're never doing enough. You're
you're never you're never there enough. But if you're there too much, then you know, they're
too attached. And then they're never going to go to school. And you're just never I don't think
I've ever just like gotten into bed and been like, wow. God, I'm such a good mom. And I know I'm a
good mom. And I, it's just, it's hard to pat yourself on the back. Because this job is so
important. And you love your kids so much that it's hard to just be like, good job. And you can
hear it from maybe other people be like, you're doing a great job. But yeah, yeah, yeah. How has
it changed your approach to your career? It has been really great for my career. And in the way
that like, I'm not for my career, but for my work, I don't think I've never really needed
structured time before. I've never, you know, my, I have never had to kind of, yeah, structure my
time. And so when you have kids, you have to be very mindful about what hours are spent where
what you're going to do and how or you're not going to get anything done, and you're going to
fail at both. So I'm really structured with my time now, which is just something that I never
thought about or saw for myself. Okay, so to me, give me one piece of advice that I'm
opening it up, you're allowed to give me advice, new mom coming into this. What should or should I
not do? Um, don't start, don't worry that your kid is like, bored. Don't when they get into the
car seat. Don't just hand them something right away. You know, and like, that's something that
like, you have to get over because you'll be like, they're bored. They're bored. They're this,
they're, you know, and it's like, they're not their neurons are like, quadrupling. And they're
like, seeing a tree, like, they've never seen a tree before. Yeah. And like,
don't just give them a vice. Okay. How has being a mom and a career woman and a wife,
all the things impacted your female friendships? Yeah, well, me literally clenching my butthole
for the rest of this whole interview being like, how does it affect your friendships?
Do you have friends? They're over, they're done. I don't know. The mom community is
so important. And I help me so much, like, going to the baby classes, and like, mom's from
school. Like, I remember when I had bad postpartum with my second, I like got on the elevator and one
of the moms was just like, Are you okay? And I just wasn't. And I was just like, I'm really scared
every day. I have such bad anxiety. I feel like I'm being chased by a tiger. And like, one of the
moms like heard and hugged me and just like gave me her number and, and just talked to me like the
mom community is like, really amazing.
It really is. And I, again, prior to even thinking about having a kid would have just been like, Okay, I can't
relate to that. And now being pregnant, so much of what I've been going through, it has been really
nice to see other women who are like, Oh, my God, don't worry, I've done that before. And I've
messed that up and all the things like it makes you feel way less alone. Because again, I love my
husband. And he really is like my partner and all this, but I'm like, you literally don't understand
what I'm physically going through. So to have another woman talk to me about her butthole,
like, it's just something that Matt and I will never connect on. Do you know what I mean?
Your butthole too.
Yeah, like he just, he'll just, he'll just never understand it.
You have a secret TikTok?
I do.
That you use to rage bait people in the comments?
Yeah. And I think I'm just gonna like take that live. I think I'm just gonna,
it's about time I just take the mask off.
Really?
Yeah, I think so. Because I'm literally I'm arguing about like, Victorian, you know,
ancestry.
Wait, what's on your For You page?
Um, my FYP is, um, like the long skincare things.
Okay.
You know, like where the girls wake up and they're like.
Oh, yeah, those ones where they're like, wearing the whole shield over their hair and they take it
off.
Yeah. By the way, like your pores can't breathe. Like you can't sleep like that.
And also how do you sleep like that? It's a whole thing. The rollers.
No, I don't. Um, um, uh, hair, a lot of hair stuff. Um, and, um, at rest,
Oh, you're a cook.
Well, I can cook.
Yeah.
I haven't cooked as much.
Okay.
Lately.
So have you gotten into any fights online?
With other celebrities?
No.
Oh, with strangers? All the time. Every day.
What are you fighting about?
I told you. English. Tutor. History.
Like what are and what's your take? Like, what are we saying?
It depends on what the situation is, you know?
And are you doing this a little while you're like sitting on the toilet?
Like while you're like in the car? Like what are you most rage baiting people?
God, can you imagine sitting on the toilet without you?
your phone no i literally got up i literally got up the other day because i was like i gotta go get
it before i go to sit down yeah i know i know isn't that so dark well it's so like lonely i
know i'll sometimes like put a podcast in to walk from my bedroom like downstairs to my kitchen like
what am i gonna listen to on these 13 steps because you're doing your best rage bait comments maybe
i all day every day you know there's not really yeah if i'm breathing i'm rage baiting let me get
your take on a couple things how do we feel about people who post their spotify raps at the end of
the year i i'm i find that really uncomfortable i don't know who could be that extroverted what
are you listening to i listen to the same three songs i i don't know how to find new music name
the three songs jen um i really really don't want to do that i i can't i i that's too private it's
so private it's so incredible of all the things we've talked about today that is so deeply private
even when my spotify rap does happen i don't want to look at it i don't like if we were listening to
a song and you were like what are you imagining right now i'm like i had to tell you and i'm like
i'm a record producer and i wrote this song when you would go on dates with men and they're like
what kind of music do you like oh yeah oh let's check like there's i don't even i don't even know
i've lied in the past i'm like well what do you like i'm like same because it's just too vulnerable
yeah my answer used to be god i hate this okay give it good of everything but that's not true
i really i cannot stand the sound of a saxophone it does something to my inner like ear oh good
like it's oh i hate it okay how do you feel about glam bots on the red carpet what is that you know
is that somebody who's a computer you're like obviously i know what this is it's when you're
on the red carpet and you're like oh my god i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my god i'm like oh my
you go to red carpets i do do these they have these at the oscars they go one two three and
there's a camera up here and then it's the one that moves and then you turn humiliating
it's not humiliating when other people do it but the act of doing it what do you think your pose
would be it gets you like right in the act where you're like yeah bad bad bad yeah i actually could
see you just doing it and giving straight face yeah it's just like that's that would be
yeah maybe you should do it next time you go on the carpet um we gotta go reality tv takes okay
yeah if you had to pick best reality tv show of all time uh vanderpump rules
the the og yeah specifically the first couple seasons yeah like yeah i don't know what i did
to you but you can get me a period new grigio yeah yeah yeah yeah jax taylor jax taylor oh my god
yeah yeah yeah yeah kristen dodie oh oh please it was something was in the air yeah
i agree i was trying to think about it and i was like i think that i do have to give jersey
shore credit because oh it's it's like it really did something for the culture here's the thing
your question what is the best reality tv show ever you're right it is jersey shore or like
the real world or you know i think for me and my universe i guess i would say
vanderpump rules no no that's actually fair like for you it's the best no
for me i would have been like laguna beach in the hills like that for me coming up oh my god can you
imagine remember lc's purse with the big ring do you remember her house yeah of course oh my her dad
her dad i was like i'm sitting in my room eating my hair with my sister we live in a cul-de-sac in
pennsylvania i don't even know what where los angeles is on the map and we're sitting there
watching these women and they are just so beautiful so gorgeous their outfits their everything and they
have boyfriends like full boyfriends who like drive them in cars and they're wearing like the
chanel big glasses and like jason picks her up in a convertible i know like i was so enthralled with
that world and i couldn't even imagine when kristin cavallari comes on the scene and oh my god
i was so obsessed with it so i think it really like impacted who i wanted to be you know you
are and i want you to know in my culture i think in our shared culture this is the nicest thing i
could say to you oh god you are as beautiful as kristin cavallari
i please accept these compliments for my culture you're gassing me up because you know i'm not
feeling great about my pregnancy you know how i'm feeling thank you i really believe that you

um uh i i don't i hate it i hate it
dad talk it's it feels like you're riding on their coattails and also you are mad at them
for the success that they have and for the the income that they're bringing into the home
not only are you copying it you are then belittling them and you are angry at them
that you didn't do it first i so agree with you god i'm mad fuck oh
we both start crying
um okay what dating show let's pretend you're single your husband's gone your kids don't exist
we're back in the day jen okay what dating show would you crush like if you went on this you're
like i would be a rising star hmm i love that let's think um i think love island because it's
about the girlies like because i wouldn't be able to be like competitive with i would have to be
like if we're not friends i'm gonna cry okay and then you would feel good about like pulling
men for chats do you think your chat game is strong no oh i don't think so um but i'm just
trying to imagine me in like love is blind i'm just like blacked out like i'm in the wall you're
like you're like are you getting claustrophobic in here revolutionary war i used the i was just
arguing with somebody oh yeah because i wouldn't have my phone no so i would have to argue with
the person in the wall next to me about historical facts i think you'd need to be like in person in
contact also in love island they're like only allowed two drinks or something if if i didn't
have kids and this was in i'm in i'm uncomfortable and i don't have my phone i oh my god i would have
a seizure from drinking so much you're bringing in a flask you're hiding a flask in your drawer
you're having a good time yeah okay i could see you on love island thank you oh my god you should
totally do a little like appearance okay i mean like no no no i hear you great so i said i
get it megan the stallion came in and like hosted a challenge do you think do you think you would
ever do that no no okay okay okay should amanda and west have stayed on summer house
well obviously i don't know the ins and outs of their deal um i think she said something like
she was she was getting like a pay a pay dock or something so you know that's i mean yes i want i
want them to continue to be on the show um but i don't know if i'm going to be on the show
i don't know what i mean god it's just like
just don't do that there are other you know it's like if you if you have those feelings
sit with it for a minute just just make other choices it just you don't you know like if if
if my friend came over and like like tomorrow you know if my friend was like single and was
this guy is so hot
you you were just like wow that is something that i feel and you know and then and life goes on
you know the last thing i'm going to do is act on this literally the last thing yeah andy cohen
said that you helped him get to the bottom of the summer house reunion audio leak can you please
explain um i can confirm you can confirm but you can't explain okay so like you're you're sleuthing
i i could i
i did it in way everything was like public information it was it was actually quite easy
you're in the chats you're in the channels yeah i i i don't mind my own business that's the thing
about me and we all love that okay who is chris jenner's favorite daughter me but kylie i think
it's got to be kylie yeah it oscillates between kylie and kim kylie and kim yeah well i don't
know kendall's on her lock screen or was
it should be chloe oh well chloe's my favorite sister me too yeah um which reality tv reunion
would you be qualified to host um be qualified to host i don't i mean none of them because i can't
i i wouldn't let any of them talk and i wouldn't the men like imagine if i was hosting the valley
oh my god yeah danny you're not gonna couldn't
sit with us so you just kind of like sit there and just take control yeah and then like if a man
tried to speak even if nobody else was speaking i'd be like i'm speaking shut up yeah yeah yeah
yeah a man to go on reality tv it's a lot yeah what is your housewife tagline you have to have
thought about this um my name is jennifer and i can't mind my own business love um which housewives
fight was peak reality tv um salt lake city
with the receipts timeline.
- It was pretty good.
- Yeah.
I think also The Flipping of the Table by Teresa.
Like, you can never.
No?
No.
Because she gets really fired up.
It's kind of like Tamara.
Like, Tamara freaks out about everything.
That's fair.
Okay, we're closing out.
I want to ask a couple more things about your haircare line.
Okay.
What do you think, product-wise, is your go-to favorite right now?
My go-to favorite right now?
That's really hard to say because the root spray I cannot live without because it thickens my hair.
And it just, I might as well just not do anything if I'm not going to have the root spray.
But I've noticed that when I don't use the mask now, like before, even if it's like one minute before I show, if I don't use the mask now, my hair does not, I don't like, I don't love the way that it behaves.
Okay, so we're going for root spray and mask.
But the restyling serum, like, I'm going to be able to keep this blowout for five days because of the restyling serum.
Wow.
So that, I think, is the one that I can't live without because that one I can hold on to blowouts for days.
Oh, and that's nice.
If you get a blowout from someone, then you just, you have them put that in.
That's what I do.
Or I'll blow my hair out until it's, like, damp and then kind of let it go natural a little bit.
And then I just use the serum to get the floofs out.
So I guess the restyling serum.
It looks really good.
Thanks.
Thank you.
Okay, so how do you feel?
Do you feel like you got everything off your chest?
Any rumors you want to clarify?
Any misconceptions?
Any tea?
You know, the number one thing that I will read sometimes when I'm scrolling through comments,
and I see that people say this about other celebrities, too, and it really drives me crazy,
is when people think that celebrities have called and staged paparazzi pictures.
Let's talk about this.
It is so infuriating, because I'm like, what's more likely?
What, let's just, let's play this out.
What is more likely?
That I live in the same building every day of my life, and they know where that is?
Or, before I leave the house, I'm like, hold on, I have mismatching socks and a messy bun.
And I have to call this guy.
I don't know how to drop a pin.
Who would I call?
You know what?
I'm like, Jen, and I'm going to help you out here.
And it doesn't help my career.
You're one of the people I don't think is calling the paparazzi on herself.
But it's good to clarify today.
You know what would help my career?
Anonymity.
Mystique.
You're like, I need to be seen less.
If you couldn't see me unless I was in a movie, do you know how successful I would be?
Yeah, we got to get you out of New York.
I'd be unstoppable.
I know.
I have seen a lot of paparazzi photos of you lately.
I know.
I live in the ******.
Okay.
Oh, whoops.
Don't.
Sorry.
But, yes.
Well, bleep.
Oh, yeah.
You're like, you just told me you're in the dress.
I live in that building.
You know that movie?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So they know exactly where to hit you.
Yeah.
That's good to know.
I like that clarification.
Thank you so much for coming on Call Her Daddy.
This was so fun.
I feel like we went on many different adventures.
And I appreciate you really being in this Arctic tundra with me.
It's unbelievable how cold it is in here.
But, like, the nipples were hard.
The hair looked good.
Like, you're. You look great.
I know you don't feel it, but thank you.
I think I've burned, like, a thousand calories just trying to survive.
So thank you.
Thank you for coming on.
Thank you for having me.
