Jackie Tohn on Harry Styles Encounter, Nobody Wants This & More + Elizabeth Holmes Doc Reaction
2h 6m 22s
The host begins by emphasizing how personal mood shapes entertainment choices, highlighting Amazon Prime as a solution that delivers content and products tailored to one’s emotional state. They share a current romantic mood, watching drama on Prime and enjoying snacks to fully immerse in the experience. The discussion then shifts to a deep analysis of the documentary *Nathan for You*, where the host and guest explore themes of manipulation, deception, and narrative control. Elizabeth Holmes is portrayed as a master manipulator who influences others, including Billy, while maintaining a belief in her own mission. The documentary’s storytelling raises ethical concerns about consent, the portrayal of real people, and the manipulation of public perception through reenactments and editorial choices. Characters like Billy and Amanda are seen as psychologically complex, with Billy’s controlling behavior and Amanda’s obsession with mimicking Holmes revealing deeper layers of manipulation. The film’s structure is intentionally ambiguous, prompting viewers to question whether the narrative reflects truth or is a constructed story. The conversation concludes with excitement about a Glee reboot and a special guest, Jackie Tone, who shares personal connections to Long Island and the emotional impact of the show *Nobody Wants This*. The entire discussion blends personal reflection, media analysis, and cultural commentary, illustrating how entertainment can mirror and challenge real-life human behavior.
Hey, chicks in the Office listeners, you can find every episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Okay, let's be honest. Sometimes choosing what to watch is less about what you want to watch and more about what mood are you in. Maybe you want to laugh until you cry, maybe you want edge of your seat drama, and maybe you want to escape reality entirely. And I love that Amazon Prime lets you follow that feeling beyond the screen. You can find the show's movies and sports that give you exactly the vibe you're craving on Prime Video. And with Prime's fast shipping, you can get the things you need to make that moment even better delivered right to your door. My current vibe is romance. I just want something that I can get completely lost in, and I'm definitely ordering some popcorn because that's part of the experience. I've been watching drama on Prime, and it's been perfect, and obviously I'm ordering snacks to go with it. It's basically your entertainment and shopping sidekick that gets the assignment. Basically, because when you're curating your night, you shouldn't have to settle for just watching the feeling you can actually live it. From streaming to fast shipping, it's on Prime. So, once again, from streaming to fast shipping, it's on Prime. What's up, everyone? It shakes in the office with Ryan Fran giving you that Friday energy on a Friday. Happy Friday, everybody. Happy Friday. I literally forgot our intro when we started, and we had a debate if it was everybody or everyone. It's only been a thousand plus episodes, and we have cups that say, "What's up, everyone?" That's the way it is. For a second, everybody sounded nice, though. Everybody. Everybody. Yeah. Rock-o-body. Exactly. How are you feeling? That's the energy I'm bringing into this weekend. I am looking forward to the weekend. It's the freaking weekend, and maybe I'm going to have some fun. Just talk. It's on lyrics. Yeah, we could do something with that, just to like a game. As a test, one day, just to see how far we could take it. Yes. It's that game in pitch-perfect. Right, right, right. Perfect, yes. Perfect. Perfect. Yes. Hold some. We've got some good plans. We've got some pumpkins. I know. I have to pick up the supplies tomorrow morning. I was, yeah. I was going to text you if you need me to bring anything. Let me know. I'll let you know. I do have a Michael's very close by. Okay, I'll let you know if we need some supplies. They always have good stuff. Yeah. Yeah, so looking forward to that. I got a baby shower. I got another birthday. I got a lot of celebrations all around. Very good stuff. You know, it was very cute. I'm going to a baby shower. I haven't been to many baby showers. Because I am the oldest, like I've said, 9 million times. I so none of my cousins have kids. So, and I'm sure I was at baby showers for like my aunts when I was really little. But now, you know, as my friends start having babies, there are more and more, and I'm saying how people do them. And it's so sweet. And we, she asked for everybody to bring a book. Yes. And then you write something to the baby. That's so nice. Yes, it's a very common thing. Yes, it's a very cute idea. Yes, it is very sweet. I like that idea a lot. And now I've been told it is done often. Yeah. But I was like, that's a great idea. It's really sweet because the baby will grow up and get to read them and have them forever. Yeah, yeah. And it's a little no personalized. Yeah. That's so nice. So, and that's, um, yeah. So I was just looking forward to some good times. How are you? Good times hanging out with you tomorrow night. You know, that whole thing. We got a wedding. We got a wedding on Saturday. And yeah, I mean, listen, we, we've spent every day together. We went to the movies yesterday together on our, on our day off, where we did not have. On not a recording day. I say day off, but we were working. Yeah. We were working. We're still getting shit done. Yeah, always. 24/7, really. Yeah. Um, but via phone. Yeah. And so we said, let's go to the movies. We had to see this movie. You can see everything. We had to see it. And we were talking about how it's like all the showings. It's also, there's so many mysteries about the movie, around the movie, everything. People are like, how long is it even going to be in theaters for? They don't know. It was like, limited release. Is it going to be here? Gone. Tomorrow. Who knows? So we were like, we got to jump on this quick, but all the normal show times. So packed. Could not find seats together. So we went at a little bit of an off hour. Yes, it was a mid afternoon showing. Yeah. And I held my phone on my lap. In a way, like I wasn't on my phone. Yeah. But in a way that I would be able to see my phone go off. If there was something came through. And Noah had some questions. And I was answering the questions. And then he replied, back, pay attention to the movie. And I said, well, do you want me to answer the question? It was, it was just me texting you for like when you got out. Right. But when I see it there, I'm like, I need to answer. And he's like, pay it in top of letters. Pay attention to the movie. I'm like, what is it, bro? Do you want the answer? And it is a three hour movie. Yeah. So it is, it is long. But I'm still really processing what we saw. And I know people are talking about it. And we are both not like massive viewers of Nathan's work. No, but we're familiar with this time. But we are very familiar and seen plenty of stuff to like no, to understand. But like not, not. You know, we didn't watch every episode of Nathan for you or things like that. You know, some people have said, but you know, I don't like when people say that. They're like, well, you're not going to get it if you didn't watch all that. Like, well, I got it. I understood it. I hate that. Yeah. When people are like, well, you just don't understand him. No, I understand it. I loved it. That's what I'm saying. But like people are telling people that they need to watch his other stuff. I don't think you need to really see anything to see this movie. Yeah. And you know what? The people who have watched this stuff are going to be like, this is exactly what I'm talking about. This is exactly what I'm saying. Why you need to watch it. But no, I thought the whole, the whole thing was so good. And I really, um, how do we, how do we feel about spoilers? We don't want to say anything. I think we're going to talk about that. And you got a big spoiler warning. I know, I know. So should we just like scream spoilers for certain seconds? I got to get my thoughts out. Yeah. Okay. Okay, everybody. Do do do do do. Yeah. Spoilers. We're going to be talking about you. You can see everything if you haven't seen it and you don't want to get spoiled. They don't listen to this. Yeah. If you haven't seen it and you don't care and you want to listen, listen. Listen. If you see it and you want to hear us talk about it, great. But once again, I'm going to say one more time. Spoilers, spoilers are going to be included in this recap. Okay. Okay. So you kind of had some stuff spoiled for you already. So my husband saw it last weekend and he came home and said, oh my god. Amanda Sifred was in it doing reenactments. Yeah. I said, wow. What a major spoiler. What a major spoiler that no one knew that she was in it. So thanks so much for. Well, thank you. Well, thank you. You go, wow, they actually left her out of the trailer. Must have been a mistake. Right. To his defense, I will say when he asked me because he went with some guys from work. Yeah. He asked me, like, would you rather me wait for you to go see it? Or should I go with them? I was like, oh, I don't care. Go with them. So it seemed like I didn't really give a shit about this. Yeah. Yeah. Until I gave a shit because everybody was like, this is, this is insane. Yeah. So yeah, I was not surprised by Amanda Sifred being in it for the whole. Yeah. You had seen that she made an appearance. But you didn't know she was like, I had no clue. I just saw a video of her being interviewed on the red carpet. I think it was. Academy the night at night's fashion's basic biggest night. Yes. Um, I think they. Where she was like, I think it was maybe a variety. And it was just incredibly awkward. And I didn't, I thought maybe it had something to do with. The movie or whatever. And so then I didn't watch like the whole thing. But I just saw like the way she was asked a question. It was like, how are you doing? It's been a crazy couple days. She was like, yeah. Like there's just like she didn't even know really what to say. And then I thought, well, that was weird. And then, um, and then when I saw other people posting like, there's a, there's an appearance. Like there's, I don't want to spoil it. But something's crazy. Someones, I think people were teasing that there was like, oh, there's someone in it that and whatever. So then I was like, okay, I thought she was just going to be like, like a little appearance. It was like, oh, he's going to show the footage of Liz. Liz for nickname baseless. Liz. We can all call her that now. Right? Yeah. Well, we've seen her husband's famous. We can all call her. We can all call her Liz. We're on that level now. Oh. Where Liz watched the dropout and they, and I thought it was going to be like, oh, how meta they'll now show Amanda. Liz watching her role in the dropout playing, playing her. And then it just, I just took on a whole nother, a whole nother life. And she really was like the star of the second half. I thought she brought so much to this film because when Liz goes to jail. goes to jail. Okay, let's be that. Yes.
You see, there's still almost two hours left in the movie. - Yes. - So you're like, "What the fuck is gonna happen for the rest of the movie?" - I really was lost. I was like, "Ooh, this is, I thought this is gonna drag." - Right, you're like, "Oh wow, okay." Oh, now Amanda Cypher's in it fully. I thought she brought so much to this movie. I thought it was great that she was a part of this. And by the way, I just saw a headline today that's talked about how she was like, "I don't wanna be like on a crime," or whatever. She actually wants to be an investigator. I was like, "Well, yes, we fully got that energy from her in this entire thing." Now, the whole basis of this is Elizabeth Holmes, a master manipulator scammer or a question mark. - Right. I don't know what the other part is. - But, here's where I lie right now. After I've slept on it and I've had some thoughts and I've really let it soak in. - Yeah. - First of all, Billy is one of the worst guys I have ever seen on this planet Earth. It almost feels like not real. - You really seem like a fake. - But you're watching someone that you just go, you're a real person. - You're really walking around this Earth right now. - You are walking around, no problem, and no problem. - And thinking you're the best guy ever, when really you're one of the worst I've ever seen. - Hey, bad, bad. - Entertaining? - Well, yes. - Yeah. - So bad. - I literally thought it was like watching like a Josh Safdie like character. Like a made up person. - What are you saying? - And he's like, "No, that's really him and really how he's reacting." When Nathan said to him, "We were an attractive guy, thanks Nathan." Like, it was just these little things, but he is one of the worst guys I've ever seen. Tell me how you feel about this and know what I would like your thoughts as well 'cause you saw. I think Elizabeth Holmes is a master manipulator in a way that she is also manipulating Billy and Billy does not even know that he's being manipulated by Elizabeth and that now maybe she has taken on a whole new character in this documentary with Billy, she's manipulating everybody on a whole other level and Billy thinks I've got her figure and I run the show but really Elizabeth is running the show because if she makes Billy do all these things, she can get away with all the things. 'Cause like, you know, if Billy makes money, that's a way for her to get money on a way around it because she can't make any money. - Right. - 'Cause of the restitution. - Yeah. - She can't make money. - No. - But if Billy makes money, Billy can give her money. - So like, that's where I'm at right now where I'm like, you know what? They want you like Nathan to maybe start feeling for her but I also think, let me know how you feel about this. - I also don't think Nathan did. - No, no, I don't. That's what I'm about to say. Is that I think Nathan wants, 'cause he is extremely smart. He wants the audience to think that he was getting fooled but he was not. - Yeah. - And so we have two extremely smart people in Nathan and Elizabeth. - Yeah. - And Billy, I don't fucking know what's going on. - And Billy and people. - And really? - And really? - And some confused. - I don't think you can create like a billion dollar business if you're dummy. - No, no, no. I think you have to be a master manipulator to create something like that. - Yeah, to win over that many people. - You're right. - So fraudulent. - And I've seen people discuss when Nathan showed her the who's on first. - Yeah. - That she actually did get it but pretended like she didn't get it to play into this like whole character that she's now playing. - I don't know, there's a lot of layers. She's a big-time scammer though. She's just a big-time scammer. - Here's my thing. I don't think anyone agrees to have your life top to bottom filmed before something so massive without having an agenda and knowing you're like, well, we're doing this because we want Elizabeth to come out looking like blank. Like whether that's innocent or a loving mother, a loving wife, you don't agree to do that unless you're like, we have a vision in our mind of how we want this to go and how we are going to act so that it comes across that way. And they, I think they really are. And when it came to the end more of like, oh my god, these two are just like a Bonnie and Clyde. Like this is, and they love wins and all these things that these two are sharing. It's so crazy. And Nathan just does such a good job of really like pulling you in and having you kind of maybe veer off in one belief and then making you shaking you and being like, well, maybe it's this. Well, maybe it's that. And it really makes you think like, yes, this was about Elizabeth Holmes. But there were so much in it that was just like about the integrity of making a documentary. And what that looks like. And the relationship of the filmmaker to the subject and is, or the subject's being paid. And what does that mean? And Billy initially agreeing to, or wanting to be paid for this and did Elizabeth know? Did she not? And then ultimately not getting paid for it where it ended and then they didn't end up getting paid for it. Which was the egg thing that was being talked about because people are saying like that was planned to make it seem like she can't do anything. No, I'm told that's where I'm wondering like, okay, yes, obviously Billy is a controlling piece of shit. But does Elizabeth use that to her advantage to be like, yes, I know he's a controlling piece of shit, but I'm going to let him be that so that I can come across as like, oh, I know, I agree. I go back and forth because clearly has been there a lot. No, yes, of course like there are things that have happened to her that are a good, sunny bad guy. Sunny bad, her dad mentioning thing, something that happened to her. Yeah, yeah, really bad. So obviously she has had bad things happen to her. Yeah, but that does not mean that she is not doing the bad. When you are manipulated on your own, like then you become the manipulator and like there's just like, it's a vicious cycle of craziness. Listen, she, when Nathan was asking her, like, have you ever lied and she was like, no, I don't, yeah, yeah. And when he goes, Liz, what? Yeah. So it's like, you've never lied. Never ever have you lied. Yeah, just like even the talking in circles of the machine and like, well, the machine can keep this capable. So I saw that it is a play on the title as a play on that. So you can see everything if I do you, but do you? You know, like you can. Good, but do you? That's like my favorite and the audience. What, how's your audience, by the way? Was it like very. People were laughing, yeah. Like the people next to us were very reactionary. Yeah, and us as well. But that moment, like that was one of the biggest laughs when Billy's like, I know what you're thinking, man. And he's like, no, you don't. Yes, that was he. He, he really. Obviously like the whole, the Charlie Kirk thing got the biggest like gas. Oh, I mean, I thought Amanda was gonna lunge across the table. And when he was like, I have power of attorney and she was like, how the fuck did you get that? When she, when, when Billy looked there and goes, you're just an actress. I said, Amanda, go for it. Launch, launch across the table. Because holy fuck, I just was like, I can't believe this is happening right now. This is not a movie scene. This is like a real life scene. There's a real life conversation that we are getting to witness right now. He is such a fucking dick the way he was talking to her. Oh my God. I, I know it was crazy. It was just insane. And then, okay, the Twitter, like when they get in the car and Nathan's like, look, I mean, look at her tweets. And she's just telling me a little fuck. And then, and then 80% her though. Yeah. And then when they do the reenactment and he tells her like about the tweets, and she's like, well, you know, he has his wet, and I'm like, I can't figure it out. Just like everybody else can not figure it out. And that's why I think that's how I think Amanda's gotten so rubbed into it too. Because she's getting some backlash for what she has said and sort of like the ethics around, you know, playing a person who is alive and they don't necessarily approve. And it's fiction, but the way the world works is people watch that show and they think that everything happened is real and who's responsibility is it to be like that wasn't real. It's a TV show or this was made up the other thing. But it's like in just in the same way that the world became so obsessed with this story and like the inner workings of her brain and this relationship, I felt that from Amanda. It was like, well, Amanda has like dedicated so much time to playing her and watching her speak and trying to learn about her and literally acting like her then now she has found herself in another instance where she is acting like her but still not like fully understanding her and probably, I think being frustrated that she can't really figure her out and it leads to like a little bit of an obsession too. Like I'm like, I love being like, Amanda is just as a
obsessed with her as so many people are and trying to figure her out. Right, because I think that she is grappling with something that we can't relate to, but her, she can with the fact that she played her. Yeah. And the ethics that go into that and how Elizabeth will mention, like I can't believe women went on to like play, like make this show and not support a woman where like Amanda is somebody who obviously wants to support women, but is like, no, like Elizabeth is. Yes, she is. Do you remember you were the bad, but you did a bad hit like you did the bad, you did a bad hit story. Yeah, so and you can tell her in real time and then you see Nathan be like, don't get it, don't fall into this trap. Yeah. And I thought it was really, I loved seeing the way he works, telling her like, no, she didn't say it like that, like do it again. That's more of how she said it. The, when the name pronunciation was just so funny. Oh my God. Well, she's saying, see if we just had the same conversation. Yeah, yeah. And Amanda having to pronounce her own name wrong is just, it was, it was spectacular. I could have watched three more hours because it really did end up flying by at a moment where you go, okay, we have two more hours left, where is this going? I wanted to see so much more. I want to know, and I don't, we probably never will know. I just want to know Nathan's like unfiltered real thoughts, like sit down and just talk to us like, like the human being. I see that they are obviously estranged from Billy since the, well, of course. It's like they haven't him in Lansing. Midway through. But him in Lansing, I mean, I'm not spoken to. Yeah. Billy, we talked about this with your friends. Midway through you're going, fuck, is my movie ticket? Money going to Billy? No, right. We're like, I don't want Billy to make this money. Billy is profiting of this movie. Fuck, I said this movie is making a lot of money. Everyone's going to see it. I'm like, is Billy gonna be at the fucking Oscars? Yeah. It pissed me off. But then I was relieved at the end because I would not want him to have any money. Yeah. I talk about somebody who was also in some sort of psychosis. I don't know what. I don't know. I'm not going to speculate on what was going on. But even when Nathan was talking to him in the office and the we work, and he was like, I have like a file ready to go out, like if something were to happen to me, and all this, you're just like, it was really crazy stuff. And also at the beginning of the conversation, when they're sitting down, Amanda and Nathan and him. And he says that he has the power to do whatever he wants to people. And Amanda and Nathan are sitting there like, we're in this fucking guy's house right now. Like, yeah, that's not something you want to hear while you're sitting across from somebody that said they can do anything to hurt anybody. The Wi-Fi thing was so funny. Every time you guys are here, the Wi-Fi doesn't work. The Wi-Fi was so funny. Rea went to pee during this part, and I was like, I wish she heard it like what the bill boards, and Nathan being like, well, you know, your wife really doesn't like that picture. She said it to us. She was like, no, I don't think she's ever said that. I think she ever that. And she's like, well, this guy, he's like reenacting, like, he's using your wife in strip clubs and videos. And he's like, well, it's 11, and he was like, he was like, it's 11 this time of strip club. It's like, that was such a niche reference, but it's so funny like if you have been to Miami and been to 11. Like, which we went to for friends, bachelor, and it was like, well, it's a club with dancers to maybe, you know, maybe strip as well. Like it was his justification of it was so funny. It was so great. All of it. I mean, there's just so much. So what do you guys think like about what I said at the beginning, like master manipulator who was like, there's nobody good in this, in this. No, no, no. I'm not that good. But like, I think that there are some people right now that are having the discussion that they are trying. I almost think she's subconsciously like manipulating herself where like she, I kind of believe that she believes what she believes. Does that make sense? No, I'm like a pathological liar. I agree. But yeah. But you could be a pathological liar and know you're lying. She probably does, but at the same time, I'm like, she seems like convinced like if she was willing to go to jail. Is that a character? Because if you see like there, she could have gotten way less jail time if she admitted what she did, but she didn't. So it's like, is she just committing to this bit being like, fuck it. I'm just going to go to jail. I think there's also just like when, with her, like there are people who have that sort of almost evil genius that will go through all lengths, whatever it takes to fulfill like almost like a false god situation where it's like I was meant to be, I was put on this earth to like for a higher purpose to save people and like that's, I feel like what she believes, like to invent this thing that is going to, I don't care about the money. Like it's going to save humanity and just constantly tells themselves that where it's like no matter what by any means necessary to get to that point. Like I don't care if I got a lie, cheat, whatever, to get to that point because what I am fighting for is good, but I don't care how I get there. Yeah. Yes. Absolutely. That shower scene. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That was his idea. He's like, shoot me. And then when he comes, I mean, that was just another like giant laugh of the crowd where like, he comes out of the bathroom like to get his towel on Nathan's just like, yeah. Or when Nathan's like, I mean, you guys are going to be a poor for a long time. Like, do you want to like have sex? Yeah. Oh, yeah. And he's like, how was it? How was it? Like in front of his parent or whatever parent. Like I've got the gift of like the way the hair, like the glasses. And he was like, you know, if you want to make a run for it, like he's like, sorry, maybe poor. Right. Now, can we talk about their goodbye? Who? The rebellion? No, no, no. No, no. The intense goodbye between Nathan and Liz, that they were just staring into each other's souls. And it looked like maybe they were going to go. Well, she does that. No. But that's Nathan. Because Nathan is like really good at that. That's Nathan. That's like Nathan. Yeah. But Nathan will do that. She wouldn't break either. That's the only thing. It's like he's, he likes the awkward silence and tension. And I feel like usually other people would just just start talking like even in his past up there, like try to fill that silence and she will just stare back. Well, that's why that conversation about the eye contact being like, that's how I like how you say this how you, how you flirt is like the eye contact. And she's like, all right, we'll see how long the, we see how long you can, you know, you'll do that. But in that moment, when they're saying goodbye, you know, a person would just walk away after that. Well, she walks the car and then look back, but then no, but then they just stare at each other for so long. I'm not on board with the like Nathan fell for it. Like no, no, that is like a giant storyline of not, not whether they're like romantically involved, which I don't think is obviously not true. But whether he like is, I don't, is he a reliable narrator? Yeah. Well, that's the whole thing. Yeah. I could see it in the sense that he did it and then put it in there like on purpose to make people question, like I said, the bigger picture of like questioning who makes a documentary and do people's motives change and those things. Like, I think that's purposely put in there by him, not saying he did it, it's like, he, like I think editing wise will be like, this is going to make people think this and then that creates like another. Did you mention the coffee thing? Conversation. Like there was a part where he, I think, I don't know if it was in it, but yeah, it was, I think, but they were, he, he was asked like to get our coffee and he's like, she has some drink coffee. But, but if you go back and watch the movie, she's drinking coffee like all the time. So they're like, he's not that's a good point. Yeah. But I think he, I think that's purpose. Like purpose. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think he do. Is he playing a character or is he? Yeah. He's not duped. He's duping. I don't know. I don't know. You spend that much time with someone. Maybe an ounce of you is like. Oh, I know. I don't, I don't think that like the whole time. He was like, she is bad and that is so clear. I definitely think there's plenty of times where he was questioning what, what the fuck was happening? Yeah. No way. His thoughts. Right. I think 100, 100%, if you spend a lot of time with somebody or even like, sometimes you meet somebody, this on a lot of scale, you meet somebody you thought you wouldn't like, you talk to them one time. Oh, they're not so bad. Right? Like, with her. And you're spending so much time with Billy. Yeah. And like you're spending, right? And Billy, so bad that you're like. Yeah. They're like, well, is this I think in the end, I think when he's making it, he's probably like, all right, I'm going to let people, like, I don't think it leaves off with now Nathan Fielder is existing currently going, I don't know about. He probably said the other day that she called him for the first time in like months. So interesting. I mean, that whole conversation, that felt genuine to me too when shit was going so crazy with Billy. He was like, I really like, I'm trying to talk to her on the phone and like, actually hear from her and not just like through Billy. That like feels genuine. But then the way she communicates, it's like, it brings you back to the thought that, well, her and Billy are just two peas in a pot here, like with whatever they got, whatever they got going. And she's just like completely trusting of anything that Billy does. And it's like he, and it's so fair because it's like so many times when Billy would be like, I can do, like, I know what she wants without her even saying it and all that stuff. And it's like that always makes you roll your eyes. You're like, that's so fucking annoying when people say that or do that. And then, but on the other side, if she's like, he reads my mind, he knows exactly what I want. Like, and all these things. She's like, well, all right. I mean, what are we supposed to do with that? Yeah. At one point when she was saying, like, I talked to him in the cell through my brain. And I said, are they communicating through their brains? I was like, what is going, what is going on? I think they think they do think that. But what? And then just top.
about him, really incredible. And getting Amanda to be as involved as she was, I thought was so crazy. Like all the reenactments were so crazy. And they're like, uh, getting her to be like, they're shaping her up for like an Oscar campaign, it seems. Give really? That's what I was reported. Like, because I saw I was reported like, uh, they didn't want to spoil it. Whatever the report was, but like, person like there. But could what, it's to me, it's like, was she best actress supporting actress? Well, that's the thing that I'm playing for just being something that she's not playing a character, but she's playing it, but she wasn't acting a lot of it. Yeah, but then she's also herself multifaceted. What are you in a documentary? Like, can you not win like that? I don't think you can win an acting award for a duck. I mean, just, just, just say it out loud to be like, oh, to win an acting award to be in a documentary is like, well, that's not acting. Yeah. So like, this is yeah, or in the award, like, you're giving the award to someone who performs as someone out, like, that's the job. Right. But is she getting an award for her react? Yeah. Yeah. A 24 is pushing for it to be nominated for best picture, best documentary feature. Yeah, acting categories, pushing Amanda, cyphered for best supporting actress and Christopher Abbott for best supporting actor, fielders, not campaign. Right. Right. So going for, so that's like reenactments, right? Like that Chris Rabbit didn't know when Chris Rabbit was never Christopher Abbott in this. He was, he was only just playing Billy. Yeah. So it's like, oh, if you're like, it's not, oh, Amanda, when she's Amanda, it's Amanda, when she's Elizabeth Holmes. Yeah, I don't think she would have went for that, but I am curious to see like, about the other categories. Yeah, no, it is, it is so interesting. The whole thing is extremely fascinating. It was so well done. I would love to see it again soon because I just have so many questions and it leaves so many questions and people have so many different theories. And listen, like you just bringing up the coffee thing, like now has my mind in pretzel. Like, I actually now, because I was like, oh, I think Nathan, like very much knows and is just trying to lead the audience to think otherwise, which still could play into that with the coffee thing. But I'm like, that is weird. She was drinking coffee. I actually remember they had, yeah, they were drinking coffee on their final day too. There's, there's just a lot to this. And I just would really love to have a sit down. And how about the swimming to them swimming together? Oh, yeah. Because from a far, you think it might be Billy and Liz, but then at the end, you see it was Nathan was swimming together. Yeah. And when they first show them in the distance, my first thought was like, oh my God, is that Nathan and Liz? And then it did it, they didn't zoom in. Like they were just kind of in the back. And he really said he doesn't want to swim. Yeah. He said, well, he doesn't like cold water. She's a master manipulator. She got her. She got him to swim. Yeah. Yeah. Right. No, it's like how do you, like it's so much of how you form your opinion and what's going on in front of you, what you're watching may not really be what's really going on. So it was just yeah. And he's so fascinating. And it did really like I always followed dealers with home stuff and knew the general story and like could could read you like the spark notes of it. But boy, is it made me want to go way deeper into all of it again. Yeah. Just the way it was. I can't get over the way that it was shot. Yeah. Real up. Unbelievable. Yeah. He's a real, and Nathan is a real close talk. It also, it's just it seemed like every shot was like for a feature film where it was perfectly planned and like composed. But it's like they had to be on the move. And they only had like a few guys, I think, on their crew. Yeah. And did you notice the certain shots of her like behind bars multiple times? Like the opening shot of the movie is her like through like the staircase with her baby behind bars. Yeah. So it's like a foreshaddle. Like whatever they were getting in the moment, really, they just did such a spectacular job. Yeah. With with that as well. Real up close, HD. Yeah. So people to where they were like Nathan Nathan could use a Bjork, no strip. Like, you know, like anyone. I mean, anyone with that close up. Well, that was why they I saw because they said that they I was looking into like how they did it. And they tried to use like as long of lenses that they could. So they're far away. So to try to make it so that they would forget that they're cameras and yeah, of course, then that you could just really. And and they also did the like square aspect ratio. So that it felt like that tighter. Those closeups are just you're only seeing her. I thought that too. And it started. I was like, Oh, we're in a movie theater. Like they put it in movie theaters. But it's not in the dimensions of a movie theater, you know. And also when he was saying, like, can I I know you offer me to stay here? Like I feel like I'm not getting something I like come stay here. And then still like the no mattress. I know mattress. I think about the fact that this person knows they're going to jail. And for the last 30 so days, decides to spend it with a film crew and not her family. Like that is that is very interesting. Like that is for sure. That's what I thought. Anybody who agrees to do that. Right. There is the agenda. There is an agenda. Exactly. Like they want to be perceived in a certain way. Yeah. The fact that she had a kid knowing she was going to jail. Yeah. I thought about that too. And I guess it was like if you're at that age and you're like, well, if I, you know, worst case because I don't think she's going to do her full sentence. I already saw something that was like she may be out next year in some sort of capacity. If you're like, oh, you hear 11 years and then you're like, well, there goes my my chance of having kids, you know, that you're like, well, yeah, gotta do it now. And then people are like, well, maybe it was you could also it because she pushed when she when she was actually going. That date of entering the prison was like, well, if you're pregnant, then you have the beat. There's like, I feel like there was a lot of things. But my, my guess would probably be, you know, you're like, oh, well, I'm not going to have a chance to have the kids that I want. If I want to have kids, now that's going to be gone. So yeah, it's very interesting. You gotta got to sneak it in pretty quick. I mean, the fact that they're and their their kids are in it. And this is a whole thing. And it's just like what a I don't even know. That's a whole nother subject. It's like these these kids are going to have this film to look back on. Yeah, it's wild. The whole thing is crazy. So wild. And Billy is really just want to oh my cannot believe that. That's a really feels like a fake. You saw like the Twitter thing that he did the other day were because obviously that was like a whole like he's running her Twitter. Yeah. And like he's saying things that and that was the Charlie Kirk thing. And then he replied to the original Charlie, Charlie Kirk tweet like a couple days ago. Dash E a H as if like her initials being like that was her. That was her like he did that like the other day. Yeah. Oh my God. That is crazy. I didn't see that because I was like really actively trying to avoid anything that had to do with the documentary just so I didn't get anything spoiled. But now like as soon as I got home and was searching things on social, it's all I'm getting fed. I'm gonna like every story, every interview like Nate is a Nathan getting connected with Amanda like through a mistone. And there's a couple different story circulating to it seems of like how this even came to be because I've seen two different things that it was like Elizabeth Holmes and her husband were looking for something. But then there was also was like a 24 wanted to make this about him. And then that Lance had heard of rumor about a 24 wanting to shop a documentary around and then called Nathan and they jumped on it and like had crews in a week later. So I don't think it's crazy. It's so crazy. Like it also must be so crazy to work on something for so long. You know, like it's like we're all seeing it for the first time. But all those videos it was years and years at the same time. Yeah. I don't I never fully watched it. But part of that was he was like learning how to become a pilot. I'm like he was just doing that while he was. He this was started in 2023. I mean, it's it's so wild. And yeah, I mean, like it was funny when Amanda was saying that she wants she wants to break them up because she was like, yeah, I mean, I don't want to see her with this guy. Nobody wants to see it. And she that was pretty relatable because you're like this guy is the worst like this like controlling you know, whatever. Um, just terrible. She was like, well, I don't I would never. But yeah. And the things you want them to break up, she's like, yeah, yeah, no totaling. And you kind of expect sometimes when actors are in documentaries or they're talking like they're kind of giving sort of polished answers and I don't want to ruffle any feathers or anything. And I was like, no, she's she's letting it fly. And I appreciated that. Yeah, like it was not like a buttoned up. Yeah, like she could have like she was a part of it. Like she could have definitely like tamed her opinion down just for the sake of like not. Showing how she really felt or I just feel like sometimes, you know, just like her publicist is probably like, hey, maybe don't talk about that. Right? Like, are you sure you want to do this almost thing? Sure you want to do this? Yeah. And like she had to I saw that she had said that she really had to like she had an original call with him to make sure she wasn't being pranked like she thought like that she wasn't being duped in some sort of
sort of way fair, which is very fair. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Wild stuff. Very wild stuff. There are two things I wanted to bring up before we get into our great interview with Daddy Jones, so fun and trivia. I want to talk about quickly before we get into the glee reboot. Paul Rudd being spotted outside of our play on Duma. Yeah. Would you guys think about that? That has to be something. There's some bit they're doing where some like they're filming something. I don't think he was just there. Well, he lived in Brooklyn because he in Joe Jonas lived in like the same building. I still think like I took that as like they're doing something. Oh, I don't know. I don't think. You think you're just. I mean, I need you to think that there's just like, I just feel like there's probably paparazzi or photographers outside of that store. But you think that he's just going out because he's like, he's solved. I thought, and what I looked at, I mean, maybe a picture's worth a thousand words he really interpreted. There's a lot of different ways. I just thought like, perhaps he was in the neighborhood and he walked by and thought, huh, here's that store. And that's it. Yeah. Yeah. And then just kept on going with this day. I kind of didn't seem like he went in. Like he just like seemed like he sort of walked in was like, huh, this is the place. Like I would do the same. I just want to be photographing. But if I walk by the store, I'd be like, wow, this is the store that I just keep going. I had the same thought where he was like, all right. I like like, poke my head in. Just to take a look. I would walk into the store and like browse everything, not including the bird for like a couple of minutes, because I just feel like most people are probably walking in there and just like scumbag for the bird or whatever. And it's probably I'd be scared of this. I mean, I'd be scared of these. You'd be like, I'm not interested in the bird. Yeah. Oh, wait, what's this? Oh, yeah. Looks like it should be named Molly. They see, they see Paul, like the employee see Paul Rudd outside. They like lock the doors, close the box. We can't let another national treasure celebrity walk into our store. He's like, I actually want to buy this or they can't, they, we can't let another beloved celebrity walk through these doors. I imagine Paul. Paul Rudd or Kelly. Paul Rudd. Paul Rudd probably. But I mean, maybe before this, maybe it would have been difference. I think Paul Rudd. He's just, no, Paul, it's yeah. Yeah. Classic. But Kelly's out there. Speaking of, yeah, American. A lot of American idol talk on this episode. A lot. Yeah. We do talk a lot about American Idol because Jackie Spoiler was on American. Right. And on top of that, Glee is officially coming back like with Leah Michelle with a lot of the original cast it seems. So I don't know, man. I just, I, I've seen so many people on TikTok talking about this. And I've seen so many fair opinions. It was like, they saw Glee, like at the time, Glee was a quote unquote progressive show that had extremely like off-color commentary. Like you, I, I watched a TikTok that was just old scenes all clipped together of just like the way they talked about race and sexuality and all these different things. And you're like, Oh, like things that probably wouldn't get ran into show today. And then people are like, here's my problem is I don't want woke Glee. Like I, that's what, like Glee was such a staple of that time. It was so unique that it be, it's so hard to do again. I never saw, I like, I never watched. Never. Like maybe saw some episodes here and there, but I never watched it. Like, wow, we actually don't. I don't think I said it before. I don't think I knew that though. You did. I think we talked about it like recently. Recently. Yeah. Not here, but like in. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I'm sure we talked about it like when we've talked about. Yeah, like I think we were maybe like somebody brought it up and I said it in passing. And then you were like, you've never seen and there was like the same comment. Same exact thing over again. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That is kind of one more where people do that every time. Yeah. Where you were like, I haven't seen it. I'd be like, Well, I've seen it. And it is, like I know the characters and stuff, but I guess. Yeah. Yeah. It's, I mean, it is. It's a whole different ballgame watching. And it was fantastic. I will never forget where I was. Yes. The nightcore, I'm on to the dad. Well, that was big news just in general, but I like it. I was a big fan. And I really loved their relationship. And I. I like had my one friend who we cared and we were just like so upset. But it was just the show has obviously lost cast members as well, tragically. And bringing a show back is interesting when you are bringing some original members. That's so scared. I totally forgot. I was like, is there a ghost when they bring the original cast back? I was surprised and not surprised about Liam and Michelle if that makes sense. But I think I will actually lean more surprised. I was surprised that she would want to go back to the show and do it and do whatever version of it now is. Especially, you know, not spring, but like losing her boyfriend. No, I know. I thought that there was no way she would want to talk to this. And then it just seemed. Yeah. Like, I don't know. And I wonder what it'll all include. I wonder if we got to talk to Becca Tobin about this. I wonder if she'll be in it. I this is a hilarious headline. It's an entertainment weekly post from four hours ago. That says Becca Tobin explains why she has quote diarrhea about delivery boot. There's no guarantee. She said, got this gives me diarrhea. It's a situation where I'm not an original cast member. I was not in season one. I came in three season. I came in three seasons in. So there's no guarantee. She just said it's the type of thing where you just sit and you wait and you're like, okay, is he going to decide to invite or ask or whatever. It's such a weird feeling. So I think she's basically talking about not knowing if she will be involved in this or not or asked to be involved in this because there's been a long time where there were a bunch of cast members wanting to get the show back. And I think like those conversations, then I want to I think Becca was a part of it. So now that it's like fully back and it's, you know, Ryan Murphy and he's doing the whole the whole song and dance again. It's like you really song. Yes, you don't know. You don't know everybody. That'll be that'll be coming back. But it's going to does he plus in Hulu. Yeah. I don't know. I just feel like it was something that didn't need to be touched. Yeah. We'll see. I thought that too. But my God did it create some of the best music. So many great versions. I love the glee soundtracks. Really? Yes. Yes. Why do you ever go and listen to the glee version over the actual version? There's a couple. And don't stop believing was wonderful. No way. Yeah. You're listening to their version over the journey. I listen to the don't stop believing version. I actually prefer to the time you're that song ever again from anybody. And there's it is the most over. It was actually on my do not play wedding playlists. Oh, that's one. Don't stop believe it. It's just so overplayed. Best glee songs ever. This playlist. Oh, yeah. I mean, there's so many good ones. That was Lee. I'm going to be able to read. They did so many good mashups. Like mashups. We get to come in here for an interview. No, he's never invited back on the dream. Was a fantastic cover. Don't stop. I know. Who fired up about glee? Craig Conover. No, it just said Craig's been commenting. No, we post them ultimately. In both he was just like comedy. He's like really excited about the glee reboot. I'm happy for him. Yeah. And you know, people really love to see like Darren Christ is it a whole big show in London. He brought Chris call for out. They sang together. So people really remember and love those covers that they did. They're so beloved. And it'll be very interesting to see what they do at this show because like I said, the beginning I they can't make that version of glee speaking again. I don't I don't think if they they could they could try. They could try it. By the way, I have to say because I was editing a lot so I didn't really watch all dancing with stars. I actually did go back to watch the mora and mark dance because I was just curious about or not more and mark. I went back to watch the hairy dance because I was curious about John John Mayors song. Yeah. That whoever that guys put true that song. It wasn't the bass rendition. I will give you that. It was like, yeah, just what it's just such a special song. Yeah. But by the way, and I hate to say this too speaking of John Mayer, this new song that he is coming out tomorrow. Wait, but but here's my question. Did you like listen to a leak or something? How do you know he put out like all these previews, but then today he played the whole thing on serious. So he has his own channel. So people like close to the whole song because he played it because he played it. Okay, that's for us. It's like, it's just like a continuation. I don't know what the rest of the album will be, but this is like could it have just been on his last album? Like it's just not. Well, we're, what were your hopes for this song? It was going to have a different sound. Yes, like I thought, you know, to any any of the other albums was like, you didn't really like his last song, but that's my least favorite John Mayer album. The last one he put out. Yes, I brought. Yeah, yeah. So I brought. I didn't like I liked so I brought. Maybe I like this song. Tom and Jerry. Maybe I give it a couple of. I honestly like I have John Mayer friends who I talked about with this and they actually really do like it. So teach their own. Yeah, I think that's some people also
It just takes a couple of times. You just let music marinade a little bit before you can really form an opinion. Like, it's a new thing. You hear for the first time. You're kind of like, "Oh, I know. "I gotta listen to it a few more times "in different settings and see how I feel." So maybe you'll come around to Tom and Jerry. - I don't think I will, but I will support you, John. (laughing) - All right, I will always love you. - Yeah. - All right, that wraps up the topics and we'll get into our interview with Jackie and trivia. - Okay, let's be honest. Season three of Nobody Wants This. We've seen it. We love it. We're so excited and we're so excited to sit down with you today. We have won kittens. We have wanted you on the show for a long time, so we're very happy you're here. Happy to be here. Yeah, we're pumped to every like we love the first season so much. And then we want it everybody on. And then the second season, we're like, we want everybody on. And finally, here we are. Final season three. What a joy. I would have I would have come any time. Thank you. Thank you. I know that. Thank you. Thank you. I was outside both of your guys apartments. Yeah. Yeah. Any availability on the pond? Yeah. So thank goodness. Yeah, we feel a connection to you too, because you're from Long Island. I'm from Long Island. I just think after you say we feel a connection to you, you can stop. Like, look at the three of us. Yeah, they get it. They get it. Yeah, they've already-- The second you started talking, I was like, oh, this is insane. The tone has been set. That's my last name. Yeah, well, wow. Wow, good one. Oh, I did not mean it. I did not mean it. I would never have-- But I've purposefully been that clever. [LAUGHTER] It's always an accident. I know, I know. How long did you live on Long Island four? Well, it's wild because it was my entire childhood. But looking back now, it was like a quarter of my life. Because I moved to LA when I was like, I always said 17. And now I'm like really crunching the numbs. And I didn't graduate high school until I was 18. So it was definitely 18. Yeah. 17 sounds more dramatic. 17 is crazy, right? It sounds like you dropped out of high school. Yeah, 17 is like, yeah, I was like a newborn. Yeah. I took myself in my bassinet. I carried my own thing. OK, and I just took myself to the West Coast. But yeah, it was like 18, I dropped out of college. I went to the University of Delaware for a represent. Oh, my-- I knew he connected it. Where did you guys go before you decided that you were a big fucking loser? It's like me. Oh, I was at Mary Mountain Hatten. Cute, which is-- it doesn't exist anymore. And you said thanks, but no thanks. Yeah, he doesn't exist anymore. No, it got swallowed by another college. Oh, wow. I think it's now maybe a northeastern campus. Like, sadly, it can't do that. Oh, right. It's like a college, and it's like a goblet. Yeah, it's just eating right up. Everything eats everything off its own. Everything is just a monolith at the point. Yeah, it's just-- I was at FIT, which is right around-- OK, still there. I just wave, and-- That's true, yeah. I was at the University of Delaware for a single semester. And then I was like, oh, I liked it. I had a really, really good time. But there was a huge break in between semesters. And I was like, maybe I can-- and I had an Asian already. And I was like, acting since I was a baby. And I was like, maybe I'll go to L.A. for this big break. And then I should never have left. So you go to L.A. What happens when you first arrive in L.A.? You already have the agent. You've been doing it since you were a kid. Yes. So it was always interesting when people would be like, how do you get an agent? I'm like, I have no idea. How did I get an agent? My mom's friend worked out of her back house in Baldwin Long Island, famously, Aggie Goldefresh faces agency. And you have to say the whole thing. Yeah. And then I was always just like, you know, imitating commercials and doing theater and singing from the time I was three. So that's how I got an agent. It was literally my mom's friend. And it was like that child has too much energy. But then, yeah, I went to University of Delaware. There was that big break. And then the first thing that happened when I got there, which was absolutely crazy. I was friends with this boy that I-- he was one of the stars of the nanny. And I played like a mini-fran. And he was like, one of my only LA friends. So I was out here. And I went with him to the TV guide awards. Thank you. The TV guide that-- Not only was this TV guide exists. I mean, double RIP, because they-- Definitely RIP. They definitely aren't doing the rewards. I don't think. And it was like, honestly, it was like plastic tables with like bed skirts. It was like, what is this is-- this was the highest level of work you could go to. Oscar, Schmoss, right? And so I go with Ben. We're having this great time. And Drew Carey was hosting-- the folder's opening, as you can see. And Jesse Beal was there. And Jessica Beal was there. And Jesse Beal, you call there. Yes, yes. Always, everyone. That's not even a cute nickname. That's just literally what everybody call it. If you were like, hi, Jessica, she'd be like, are you OK? OK, we didn't know that yet. No, I mean, personally-- But then if I'm telling a story about a person I know, and I'm like, Jessica Beal, that's even weird. I thought you were talking about like her evil twin. Her evil twin. Yeah. Like just like someone racist cars. She's evil, and she looks over at her competitor. So I know you're thinking Jessica, but this is just actually entirely different. She's a shaved head. Yeah. It's like, hand hat the way they call her Annie. Yeah, that's right. That's right. I have a fun time. Yeah. So anyway, I meet her at the TV Guide Awards. And we are fast friends like, cuckoo fast friends. Like we're like, bro, bro, with these deep voices. We're like, game recognizing game. And we just became friends. We exchanged numbers. I had like another week in LA. And by the time I was leaving, she was like, you're late. That's crazy. And I was like, yeah, I have to go to college. And we had these conversations about it. I met her whole friend group. And I was like, where would I, you know, I could come here. Where am I going to live? And she's like, oh, you live with me, my family, in Calabasas. And I was like, oh, what? And then since my mom was out there, my mom met her mom. So she didn't feel like, oh, I'm just letting my daughter drop out of college and moving with strangers. She was like, she's moving in with like a whole family in a gated community. Could it be like a, could it be better truly, truly, spoke knowing. And I just, I moved in with Jess. I mean, Jess's mom taught me how to write a check. That's incredible. Shout out Kim Beale. And your mom did not move with you. No. So that they're, that's out there. That's out there. They say that it was you and your mom moved in. Oh, no, no, no, no. That's what the web says. Yes, we got to clear that up. That's very wrong. Yeah, my mom and dad and brothers were all very much in a long time. And so was, can you imagine like looking back your family on Long Island, telling everyone that you went to go live with the appeals, of course. Also then like when I came back to New York and then like Jess would come to New York and like sleep at my house and hang. It was like everybody just like looking through the windows. When I was a little kid, Makali Culkin came and slept at my house when I was like 15 or 15. And that was like, that was, I mean, that was crazy. Like my friends from New York City who all went to PC, the professional children's school. So we were all kid actors together. They were like, well, that was like a field trip for them. So my mom went to New York City and her teal Ford wind star pulls up and out front of Makali's apartment. I like I've ever told the story. Pulls out in front of Makali's apartment. And he and our friend, Acidra and Sarah Hubbard and they all came down. Sean Dooley is a big Broadway guy. They all came and slept at my house for a couple nights. We had like a Long Island weekend. That is so funny because you know, what is it? I'm just speaking of what you like. You guys, wait, don't forget your thought. Yes. I'll forget my ADHD. But the idea that it's all like, oh, you moved to LA. This whole thing, it's like, did any of those kids' parents know where like whose teal Ford wind star they were getting in and going to Long Island for two days? We were 15 or 14 or 15. OK, yours. Probably not. Chris Carson Ramano just.
came out of the bunk and she talked about being at that school and the same kind of thing where she was like, you know, one time, Scarlett Johansson came over for a sleepover. Like, it's just, it's just like this. Yeah, absolutely. And then McCullochon was like, by far the coolest kid in school. Oh, of course, which is not shocking. He was cool as hell. We played against each other on celebrity, jeopardy last year, and it was a very, I posted on my Instagram. It was quite a reunion. There's a picture in my bedroom of me like standing behind him, giving him a hug and we recreated it 13 years later. Oh, just crazy. Because I'm 19 now. Yeah, right. It doesn't work. We're trying to go to none of these and it's going poorly. That picture is as famous as his picture with Michael Jackson. Everyone says, everyone says, everyone says, was bubbles the monkey at your episode of Jackson? I say, of course. Right up there. Now, was this like prime time, 7th heaven, Jessica Beall P T S H, 5 times 7th heaven? Yeah. Because I can to crack the crap. Yeah. I was like, major. Yeah. Okay. Okay. So when she's coming to visit and like you're, how many, one brother? Two. Two brother's beyond. I mean, please. What? I can't even imagine what they were. I mean, everybody was, everybody. I mean, of course, like everyone's in love. I was in love. Everyone was like, is she's the coolest and the hottest? And she's just like, yeah, she's one of the baddest to do it. Yeah. She's great. Yeah. I think everyone was pretty excited. And what was the movie with the, that would be "Summer Catch"? Yes. "Summer Catch"? I don't know. This was before. It was "Summer Catch." Yeah. This was like around that time. Yeah. I somehow missed it. And I have to apologize. Yeah. I have not seen "Summer Catch." You should go back. I think Jessica and that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's gonna be a big time. Yeah. Yeah. Big time. Well, your whole story is so fascinating because you also auditioned for American Idol. Oh. You made it to Hollywood and you did the whole thing and I feel like people. People. People don't know that enough. For the best? And how old were you when you did that? Old. No. No. No. No. I have so much to tell you guys. No. I just saw a crocheted pickle. How am I supposed to come? That's my emotional support pickle. Okay. But how am I supposed to concentrate? You know it's there. You know it's there. Okay. And the jelly cat thing that you said you were gonna tell us about. I'm personally just absolutely enthralled and obsessed with Japanese culture. Yeah. And Kauai and I've been to Japan. I just, I love it all. And when something has a face like that, which is just two eyes and a mouth years ago, he made a little teeny tiny pumpkin that he carved. And he did that little face on that little Kauai face. And he named the pumpkin Chris, which pissed me off from how cute it is. He looked like it's Chris and I was like, okay, my angry now. Yeah. It's a cuteness. I want to bite my own teeth out. And now everything. No, everything. It's not my picture. I'll be like, look, it's a Chris. Look at Chris. So there's a fraction. You basically came up with jelly cat before. Truly. It was a thing. Sorry. And that was it. Sorry. Yeah. He missed out basically to that one because I don't know if you've seen, but the kids lying out. I don't know if you've seen, but there's some money. There is some money there. And all more of the things that we were getting when we went to Singapore and I couldn't stop buying them. We were in the airport and the, and is a surprise. Like you open it up. Oh, just like the buy boxes. You know, we went to Singapore last year. Yeah. And we spent a lot of time in the airport. No, no. Oh, of course. I'm so jealous. And we kept buying. Like, gotchas. Because in Japan, there gotchas where they're in, there's in circles. There was a specific name for it. Okay. That was one of them. Yeah. They were just like that. They were just, you know, in a box and then in a bag. Of course. It's a mystery. Yeah, of course. But the specific name for it that your sister would know. But I'm blanking on it. Well, there's a lot of different, there's a lot of people in different countries. Well, there's a lot of people in different countries. There was a question, there was something we were answering before we talked about jelly cat. We're doing American Idol. American Idol. And you were claiming you were, you were not young on American Idol. I mean, what happened? I really wasn't. I was 28. Which is not. Listen, there was, there was like 15 year old. Excuse me. What was the biggest age? Many 15 year olds. The oldest age was 28. I was at the oldest age. 100. I was the oldest you could be. And what did they have that old guy? Taylor Hicks. Taylor Hicks. He was like 24. Yeah, it says sneaky. He just looked like Taylor Hicks. Taylor Hicks. No, I'm definitely on my 28. Also guys, I know all of this. You want to show it? Yeah. We're like, I was like, I'm happy to do it. I'll go back and forth all day. But we're going to Google. This says he was 29 on the fifth season of American Idol. I'm going to ask what the oldest you could be. Because when I was 28, 28. 28. But I bet he was 28. And you were on the ninth. It does say age limit is 15 to 28. 15 to 28. So Taylor Hicks, being 29, well, I think I did too. I think I may have also. And that's why you went home. And that's right. Yeah. I went home first. I mean, the show is so I can't believe Taylor Hicks was 29. I always thought the whole bit was that. Although 29. I mean, yeah. Yeah. And we was giving 41. I still, yeah. But I thought he was like 24. Okay. All of this to say, American Idol was wild. I had been acting by the time I tried out for Idol for my whole for 15. So I tried out on a 20. So almost 20 years. I had been acting. And I was like singing and playing guitar. I was trying to put out records and do my whole indie thing. And I was like, I had finally gotten to a point with my career, which was like, nothing's happening. I'm not making it. I'm not this indie. Like I was playing CBGBs and pianos and bitter end. And I was doing all these New York venues and all these LA venues. And it's just, it's impossible. It's impossible. There was like really not that there wasn't an internet, but it was like barely my space. And it was impossible. So I was like, well, why not? I'll just try out and I'll be like, I'll be the real one. I'll be the indie. But then it bit me in the ass because nobody votes for a person whose career is already music. On American Idol. It ends up being this like, you didn't quit your job at a bank in Tuscaloosa. Right, right. You're already living a life in the arts. There's this like nothing about your town where the population is 800 people. Yeah, your child actress because your mom's friend ran from space. Correct. It's not though I was broken, had nothing going on in zero opportunity. It's still somehow. Correct. Correct. And I had another friend years later with the exact same thing. She was like a jazz singer and like nightclubs and stuff. And people were like, well, she's already doing it. And I was like, no. Yeah. No, she's brilliant singer too. Yeah. But yeah, it was. Was there anything when you were younger that you auditioned for? You look back in the movie, became like a huge classic hit that you wish you would have gotten? Um, oh god. I mean, it's interesting because looking back now, there, it's not like any of these things were like, you know, Drew Barrymore and E.T. It wasn't like, but they were at the time. It was huge. I remember auditioned for now and then that movie was like, um, you guys are younger than me, but like Christina Ricci, Gabby Hoffman. Oh, it was a huge movie. Yeah. And I remember being like in the mix for that. I don't know that I was ever like up for it, up for it. But then I was really up for, there was that movie hustle and flow. Yeah. Um, that Terran Manning ended up doing. I was, that we were in conversations with that one. Like that was looking like that one was going to be, there were a couple Terran Manning moments where I was like, I'm here if she's not available. Um, but no, I would say when I was a kid, my journey was a little bit of a weirder one where I was like, I did stand up when I was young. And so I had like these development deals where I was like locked into things, which also sounds amazing. But then you're in them for like a year or 18 months. And you can't do anything else. And then if the thing doesn't get made, yeah. Now you're like, well, there went my teen years. Right. Because I was amazing opportunity for like this person who's a, you know, this amazing television creator, Nell Skolval. She created Sabrina The Teenage Witch. But before that, she wrote on The Simpsons and Letterman and she's a genius. And we did a pilot called Prudy and Judy. And I was in a deal for like a whole year with that from like 14 to like 15 or 16. And then that, then the next year, I had a deal with Nickelodeon. Then I had one with this guy, Danny Jacobson, who's a genius who created Matt about you. And that Ryan Reynolds first gig, which was actually called two guys a girl on a pizza place. Yeah. So I like had all these incredible. Yeah. This is gonna be me. Let's go. Yeah. Like back to my one bedroom apart, like, gig list. I was gonna ask of like the Nickelodeons of the world's work for it. Because they love like a kid stand up. They love a wacky kid. So this is also like, I just stand up. What's up, you guys? You heard about my easy bake oven. It's like your mother needs to put you back in the house. You go back in the house. You're in the street. Um, when I got the development deal. So I went and did like my stand-up stick and all my characters and everything in Nickelodeon. And they were like, you should be on all that. And I was like, yeah, duh. And, uh, they were like, we're gonna do one better. We're gonna create your own show called and now this. So it'll be an hour of sketch comedy. And it'll be all that. And now this. And then my show didn't go. And all that was already on. Yeah. And now I was this like Nickelodeon reject. Because my show didn't go. It was like, and then I was like, well, I could still go with Beyond all that now. But like that didn't that is not what happened. And then Amanda Bynes got on all that. And I was like, oh, she was younger than me. But I was like, okay. There's like the cool wacky dark hair, light eye, little white girl, blah, blah, blah. And then.
a couple years ago, but this is before, before nobody wants this after a glow. Some female comic whose name I don't know, I had been working out this idea of my childhood. What is the solo show, stage show, comedy show, talking about all this? And this girl wrote a show called, like, Amanda Byne stole my career or something, and I was like, oh, that's my whole gig. I mean, that's not exactly that. I know about my year like, but that is what it is. That was the core of it. 100% what happened. And Amanda Byne stole multiple people's career. Multiple people's career. Of course. I mean, surely anybody that gets the gig. Yeah. All the people that were in line for it were like, oh, what could have been? Yeah. And with those development deals, is that something that you were getting paid for? Or did you not get paid out because it didn't get picked out? No. So what's crazy is it's the reason-- so I was like simultaneously so lucky and so cursed, because I mean, certainly less cursed than my friends who had no money or jobs, which was a lot of us. But I would get this like lump sum. And then it wasn't a crazy amount of money. But it was like enough to do the pilot and hold me for the 12 months. And so I didn't have a job, which was like what a gift to be 19 and 20 in LA and be able to support-- I mean, I lived in a one-bedroom apartment. It wasn't anything crazy. But I was able to not go to work. And that was huge because then I was available for auditions that I'd never booked. Yeah, because a lot of times you hear so many people are working so many side jobs while they have to do the auditions and they're missing work and everything. That is just crazy how it works that you think you just really never know with a TV show. Oh, never. And then I did many pilots that just didn't get picked up. So there were development deals that never turned into anything. And then pilots that never went. And then things that I did that I either got fired from or got canceled, I mean, it's so grim. It's just crazy when people ask me, they're like, God, you know. So what made you want to do nobody wants this? And I go, I love the idea that you think I was sitting in my house passing on scripts. Right, right, right. No, tell them to go fuck themselves. Like, I don't have two nickels to rub together. I'm just grateful for the audition. Yeah, and it's just like it's such a fun-- The optics are wide. And when you're shooting a show, do you have a feeling now because you have gone through the process many times? Of like, yeah, this one's going to take off. And nobody's going to pick this one up. Just no idea. And nobody does. And every single member of my cast will say the same thing. I also was just like, had this realization of-- and I've known this before now, and it's similar to why people don't vote for people in the entertainment business on idle. But it's a weird business in that most people just get a different job when the thing doesn't work out. And so it's especially hard-- and I'm not looking for sympathy by any means-- but it's hard to sympathize with a person who just keeps putting their sword in the ground and being like, no, acting, performing. This is what I do. And it's like, really? No one's hiring you, and you have no-- and it's like, you can't-- so it's this weird world of not really getting any of the things you want. But then also, like, well, if you're so bummed about it, get a job, you know what I mean? So it's like, you can't-- Right, right. So after-- so after idle, where you like, I'll just-- I'll go back to acting. I'll go back to acting. I never stopped acting. Yeah. I mean, did I start? Right, you know, did I have the gigs? And so it's not like-- I never stopped acting. It was always this thing of-- Smoothie was a good idea. You were in Hollywood. Yeah, right. It's getting stuffy. Yeah, let's go ahead and get closer to the-- Get closer to the mic. Get closer to the mic. It could have been any number of things. The Biscoph cookie-eyed Chad walking in the door, the granola bar. OK. Tell me the question. After idle-- Thank you. You were like, I'm just going to go back into auditioning. Correct. So the music thing, where you like, I don't want to do it anymore. No. Or so, going on, I don't change my-- every weird decision I've made has changed my life. This is how it works to be a human. Yeah. But going on, I don't especially, because my season, there was a top 36, which had never done before and never done since. Why? Because it was a shit show. And they were like, well, well, feature-- Project runway did it last season. It's a nightmare. They're like, we'll show more talent, but you're not showing more talent. Because what you're doing is bringing 24 people into a thing and then getting rid of 12 of them immediately. Right, right, right. And giving 12 of them no chance. No one knows. And now they've given up their lives for a year, because American Idol owns you. Instead of making a top 24 and then sending a boy and a girl home every week until they have their top 12, they made it a top 36, and then sent 24 people home in one week. So now, American Idol and 19 Entertainment own those 24 people-- That's so fucked up. --who have to go-- It's so fucked up. So they said, don't put out music. Don't-- Babe, I wasn't allowed to perform it like little venues that fit 100 people. So what did I do? Went on tour. I was like, come and get me. I'm broke, I'm playing at, you know, DeVry University. It's all right. I'm playing at these random places. Thanks for you. You're like, why? Because you can't tell you what I'm doing. I actually know why. And it's the actual reason is because they don't want people who didn't do well on the show. They don't want their own careers to trump whoever-- Right. They don't want somebody to go, yes. It's like when the business on Shark Tank makes it, and they go Essie-Nong Shark Tank, but nobody bought it. Correct. That's a great fucking point. So that's similar to I don't where they're just like-- And so in my season, 24 people went home at once. And I like to think, no one knows. But if it was a top 24, I feel like I would have been there. Because I was sort of like a fave. And I sang and played guitar and played in my instruments and stuff. And so it was so disappointing to give all of that. And that was still judges like the judges sent you guys. No. No, no, no. No, but I mean, it's so boring with this. There's so many other things to talk about. No, I'm trying to remember those. There was three weeks of 12, OK. And then the top boy and girl went through. And then a third one, I got you, boy or girl. And since 90 to 100% of the people on the voting for the show are young girls and housewives, the third person to go through was always a guy. So it would be a guy and a girl, and then a boy. So in the top 12, there was only three girls. Wow. Right. And so they realized, oh wait, we did this wrong. And so anyways, that was what happened. And so it was like shatter dreams. And so my agent at the time was like, I don't understand-- I guess you're a reality TV person musician now. Like, I don't really know what to do with that. They jumped ship on me. And I was like, OK, I guess I'm going to go on tour, against literally against the rules. And I was-- I didn't talk about this for years because I was like, what are they-- What are they going to do right here? Simon Cowell was like, surprise. He's waiting outside the door. I was like, that's who gave me my water. This is a gotcha. Yeah, oh my god. There's actually a man with papers. Wow, wow. All sign, honestly, I'm so sorry. I'll-- you've been served. Yeah, go. And so after that, I just went on tour. Yeah. And so I made-- I made a-- never drank this. Yeah, drink it, drink it, drink it. Take a second. I was still going on the occasional audition. Very erratic, air quotes. Look at the bow. Yeah, unhinged. They don't know which way. And then they're not timed. They're probably self-tape. Coulda been. Yeah. Wow. Got there. So I make a press kit. I stamp American Idol on the front. I do every single thing you're explicitly not allowed to do. And it had just aired. And I was like, I have truly weeks to cap my weight on this. Yeah. And because people were mad, I got eliminated. It was a whole thing. So I got an agent, a college touring agent. I messaged him, cold messaged him in Ithaca, New York. And I sent him my press kits, and he sent them to colleges. And people were like, oh, cool. This person from American Idol, and I got all these gigs. Yeah. And he kept me afloat. Wow, that's crazy. Wild. And just really good idea in America. I don't ever came for you. I'm a little bit of like colleges. I don't know. I don't think they knew. Yeah, right. Because it wasn't like, you weren't posting it. There was nothing to post it on. Yeah. This is 2008. Yeah. Yeah. So this is like, you're doing a whole different thing. I got to ask though, the first time you heard Adam Lambert, he was my season. Yeah, I know. Thoughts were like, what's happening? Well, no, I was like, we're all going to lose. And he's going to win. And that's great. And he's delicious. Yes. Sweetest. That's a sweet man. And so we're both, you know, musical theater kids and we were like, we were before I went home, we were best friends. Yeah. We were like, and we still are friends, but we were like close. He was, he's the greatest. I mean, he really is. It's, that's like a once in a lifetime singer, like you don't want him on that. That's not normal. Yeah, I think he's one of the most talented people I've ever seen. It's absolutely. I still remember every like thing that he did ring a fire. That one plays in my head. Amazing. He's unbelievable. Yeah. I know. He didn't win. Yeah. I know. I know. I know. But it's great. Chris won. And Chris is great too. And super talented singer songwriter doing his thing. But again, you just look at who vote. There was no way Adam was going to win that show when you look at. It was 2008. Yeah. And it was like, you know, yeah. Right. And it's like the most binge-worthy show in the best way. Like you want to fly through it. It's so great. What, you know, when you read Esther for the first time where you're like-- - Season one or season three? - Season one. - Oh, just like from when you were introduced Esther, like I have to, this has to be mine. - Get out of here. - Yeah. - First of all, I initially had gotten the audition for the Rebecca role. - Okay. - And the breakdown was like, you know, perfect Jewish girl like very, and I was like, I can pretend, you know? - I can pretend I'm not me. And then I had heard about the Esther role and my team, we were like, why don't we wait for that one? And so I read the scenes. And I improvised quite a bit in the audition, but 'cause it was like, I needed to give them a flavor that like, should they write more for this character? Like I know what to do here. I mean, again, we're speaking of Adam being a once in a lifetime talent. This role is at once in a lifetime-- I could think of three other roles that are this exact for me. One being playing Suzy Esman on "Carbure" enthusiasm. You know what I mean? I think it's something that is just so inside of my mouth, like I have to do this. And so that was when I first read Esther. I was like, oh, let's go. Also, she was only supposed to be that character. She was only supposed to be in like two or three episodes of the first season. She was a guest star. - So how did it go from audition to you're getting it? How quick? - Just, oh, it was a long time. And it went the regular way. I sent in a tape. And that was in like November of probably 2023. And then I didn't find out until January. And it's just funny. I saw a question so many times over that time. And I just was always like, how is everything going? - Yeah. (laughs) - It's like just absolute lip quiver. - Yeah, it's like, do you have a mask? - No, what are the following? - No. - You don't know. - No, no. - You stay quiet. - You're like the show, got the whole cast. - I mean, also it's just like, yeah. - Truly, how's everything going with casting that? (laughs) No, you don't, like it's, you know, listen, we've been best friends for 25, you know what I mean? It's a long time and she's made a lot of things. I'm not in them. You know, it's like, that's not how it works. - Right, right, right. - So I got a homie, so does everyone. And everyone has a lot of homies. So it's like, I think what was real I have chills, but I heard Erin say this at a Q&A and it really made Erin Foster made me feel really good. 'Cause she was like, Kristen had just mentioned to us, like, oh my friend, you know, a couple of my friends taped. And I remember when they were taping for Rebecca and like, you know, looking, everyone has their friends taped and you, and Erin was like, oh no, it's gonna be so awkward to watch her best friend and she's not gonna be good. And then we're gonna have to be like, so sorry. - Right, right. - And she was like, and then we watched your tape and we were like, oh my God, that's her. This is, thank God, we don't have to, like that really works out. - They got this, doesn't it have to be a burden on the French TV? - It really be awkward, really be awkward. - And then we're like, Erin's like, Kristen, why don't you call her back? - Yeah, oh the one role I really want so bad. - You know what, that's what always happens. - Yeah. - That's what literally, I mean, I produced a TV show and a cartoon in animated musical series and every friend of mine, every single person I know, every person texted me and was like, and I was like, absolutely. So I sent like a list of just like, people to look out for, 18, 25 deep, to casting, and none of them got the part. And I've created the show, executive produced it and voiced it, and not a single one of my recommendations, but it is what it is. I'm not casting that show. - Yeah, that's why you cast that show. - That's why you have a casting director. - No, of course. - I'm a producer and I'm a casting director. - The casting director doesn't make the final call. - No. - Who usually it's like the director, right? - It's very-- - And it worked. - Well, nobody wants us, it's not the director because there was no director on board. It's, they're just making the show. And then on the first season, we either had, I don't know, six directors, 10, we had either, either one for episode or one for every two episodes. And so they're not as involved. - Like for a movie, the director is. - Correct. - Big time in. Also in television where they're like a producing director and they're on before it starts filming, they definitely have a say, but on our show it was producers and then our studio on the network, 20, I mean, the number of cooks in the kitchen. - Yeah. - It's like, yeah. - A lot of hoops. - A lot of hoops. - A lot of hoops. - Yeah. - Just jump through. But what's so great now about having the show for three seasons is those characters that were maybe, oh, not supposed to be in that many episodes. - 100%. - They are so crucial and you get to tell so much more of their story. So now I feel like with season three, you've got, we got Esther really trying to find herself and who she wants to be and date and not be in her marriage and all these things. Like, were you surprised that that was where Esther's story was going to go? - Oh my, the time we hit season three, no. When I read the end of two where she was like, I think I want to separate. My jaw fell onto the floor and got caught under my shoe. But then in season three, I was like, well, they're threatening for her to have fun and sew her oats. - Yeah. - She better fucking do exactly. - When you read that they were going to separate, the anesthesia team were like, I'm getting fucking written off their shell. - I mean, I didn't feel like I was getting written off, but I will say my butthole titan. - Yeah. - I didn't release. - I clenched and I don't think it released until I got the scripts for season three where I was like, what is this gonna be? 'Cause I was nervous, of course. Like, she's not gonna be around. She's not with the family. I mean, so it was like, it was nerve-wracking, but I mean, I love the way season three turned out. And I think, you know, it's so, it's very sweet. I did the Today Show this morning with Jenna and Chanel. And they were like, they're of that age where they were like, I mean, it's so relatable. It's just, here's this woman. She's trying to figure out who she is outside of being a wife and a mother. And the balls it takes. And you could be blowing up your whole life. And then, like, when you're in your 20s and you're like, I gotta be out of this relationship and then like six months later, you realize you want the person back and they've moved, and they've moved on. Like, that could be what's happening to Esther. We don't know where they end up. But what's important to her is to be asking yourself these questions. Like, if I had been like, is this the person I want to end up with, would I have picked him? And maybe yes. We don't know at the end of season three, even. Yeah. Where she is, right? I love the season. And I love Esther's storyline. Because like you said, you know, you're like, she's not around the family. But we have so much of the family that I like a little storyline outside of it. I like being able to follow different characters, journeys. Because it just broadens the show so much more. And to your point, like the idea that now that we're at season three, people are like, what's the best part? And I'm like real estate. The fact that you have more time to build out the little webs of everybody else's storyline. There's a whole show to fill there. And so it's so amazing, especially in this day and age, where things go away so quickly. And so there's just such a chance there to do more. And this character has always been so uptight. So to have her like be kind of like absolutely spazzing and like driving over to the house of the person she's dating and looking through the window like a crazy person. Like there's so much chewy stuff in there for her that I get to be a little, 'cause I'm just such a clown. I get to be this a little bit more of that. And I loved it because it was another side too. It was like, 'cause if it continued where she just continued to like, not like Joanne and not just like, it gets a little tired and then, so like having that relationship I'd be sort of a real friendship. And you can do this. You do act with, you know, you have a boyfriend on this new season. And when I saw him, I was like, oh my God, because I love Chicago man. Do you actually? I'm like, it's like a part of my, I watch all the Chicago shows. I love them. So I was like, oh my God. Dr. Asher, he's delightful. He's really delightful. What was it like working with him? Fun story. I've known him for ever and we have like a shorthand. The second we met, it was just like, I can't explain it. We have similar brains. We have similar jokes. We're both a little much. It's just like game recognizing game. And we met at a charity event years ago and it was just like, we loved each other immediately.
And then we played against each other on celebrity jeopardy last year. And we were doing bits again. And I was like, oh, this guy's the best. This guy's the best guy. And then they were looking for a Julian. And they were high and low. They didn't know what age. They didn't know TV movie. They didn't know what to do. And I was like, I threw his hat in the ring without even telling him. I was like, see even Webber's an idea. It's like a fun age difference. It's a fun. And then they ended up offering it to him. That's amazing. So it was, he like, thank you. Or when it's funny, did he even know the show? He knew the show. But when we got to set, he was like, how exciting is this? And like, I was going to be surprised. Then I was like, this was my-- this is my age. You are my brainchild, sir. Yeah, right, right, right. Yeah, it's funny. How many people do you play against its celebrity jeopardy? I was on the show many times. That's what happens when you win. When you beat Neil deGrasse Tyson, you sort of-- You're sort of invited back. The second time you've brought up-- I was on it three times. McCalli Culkin, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Melissa Peter Men, Steven-- I don't remember my other-- Oh, W-Camel Bell, Margaret Cho. Let's go. A lot of smart people. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What do you-- they do that, like, if you win, how many rounds is celebrity jeopardy? It's an hour long show. So it's like, you play the entire game. Yes. Like, it's, oh no. There's a jeopardy, double jeopardy, and triple jeopardy. OK, so she long. OK, you're using your brain. That's way-- yes, it's all a game. So I hear it's all in the buzzer. All in the buzzer, me. All again. And let me ask it is. That's what they've been told. All a game of buzzer. Now that I've drank and eaten-- Yes. --am I all lip liner, no lip? No, no, no, no, no. I know. Yeah, okay, no. No, no, no. Great. Yeah, you guys too. You guys too. Oh, my all lip. Thank god. Well, listen, I mean, my poor makeup artist, it's like, she does this incredible job, and I go, can I have a cookie, a bar? It's smoothie, a water. It's like, yeah, you're annoying. Right, you're like, this is a 45-minute interview. True, you have to have all of that. It might defense I've been going since 6 a.m. and didn't have a bite of food. And you said you did the today show this morning. You bumped into Harry Styles? What happened? And then bumped to Harry at the today show? No, not at the today show just in-- Oh, she's about it at the today show. Yeah, this is a fun one. Wait, I need to hear about this. Well, is that the most edible person that's ever walked the face of me? I mean, it's just like, how do we-- Unfortunately, yes. I'm not really-- Everyone keeps running into him, except us. Oh, yeah. I'm just like, I can't even mention it. I'm excited about Steve Manchin that he was staying away from you guys, and I don't want to say anything. I think I heard it. I heard it. I mean, we flew to London to go see him, so he's probably high enough. No, we're on a list. We're on a list. We're on a list, for sure. But I went to this, that restaurant, Shalom, Japan. I don't know. Right, amazing. It's a Jewish guy and his Japanese wife, and they're both shabby. And my two favorite cultures, as we've already talked about with the Chris's. Yeah, so what a combo. And the food was insane. And my best friend had been trying to get me to go there. He's like, you have to-- so we went to Brooklyn this one night. We're sitting there, and when I go before they see us, we go inside, and there's a table of a family of 10. My people, they get very excited about nobody wants this, which is very kind. And they see us outside because we don't have a res. And I just give the people a little wave. We go outside. And at the end of our meal, my stomach falls into my open butthole because our boy walks by. And again, this is such an embarrassing. But like, I can't explain to you, I don't geek. It's not my thing. I'm no shade whatsoever about people who are like mega fans who love certain things. That's so fair. I'm just not like-- Yeah. Oh my god, that's under that. I just am like, that's just never. But even when I was a kid, it's just not in my thing. I guess because I've always wanted to do this, and in my ego-- Be cool. Because you don't want to be on the level. Even if I'm deeply on the level. I'm a boy. Yeah, be cool. That's my boy. It's like, no, that's a famous person in your shit pit. So stop. But I'm like faking. So Harry walks by. And I genuinely got excited. And so he walks by. He goes right into fucking Shalom Japan. And I'm like, wait a minute. I know what I'm going to do. I'm going to go pee. And then the people are going to get very excited. And then I'm going to look cool in front of-- Yes. What a loser. No, no, no, no, no. This is such a loser shit. This is how her brain worked the other day. I saw Timmy. I saw him in the chat all the way. Timmy would get me excited too. Just because he's such a-- It's like a-- Yes. A minute amount of magic. Yes, yes, yes. Harry is-- so what happened, though, for the story? So I go in. The people-- now they've had a-- they're a couple drinks in. They're screaming. I mean, you know, Jews. These people are there like, my cousin's screaming, shouting, hitting the arm. And the mom is the so excited. Can we take a picture? You're like, yes. And I am like, he's definitely at least going like a little side-eye to see what's wrong. Right. He's at the bar. He's got a hat on. He's a scarf. He's a month, nothing to do with us, obviously. And they're freaking out. I'm taking pictures. And then I'm like, well, so nice to meet you guys. And Harry's talking to the owner. And so I just go over to the owner to be like, because I had already spoken to him at the table. He said he loves the show. He's so much for having me. Yes, right, right. Imagine like he got me a table when I showed up. Now I was like, thanks. I was like, dude, just a little tidbit for each of you to usur this was one of the best meals of my life. And to usur, I will see you with a garden tomorrow night. And he was very delightful. He was just like, oh, amazing. Have a great time at the show. And he looks at the owner and was like, you hear that? Best meal of her life. And they do a little pound. He's like, have fun tomorrow. He leaves. I look over at the people and I go, you guys were getting all excited about me. He marks Harry Styles was here the whole time. And the mother goes, Harry, who? [LAUGHTER] That's perfect. And then her daughter DMed me, Harry, who. Oh, my God. Because she's almost not Harry, who. Yeah. It could have been my mother. That is so perfect. Now, please, the one who-- He was in-- He was doing all those shows with the boys. He was saying what the boys-- Yeah. Now, they together, and he sings with the boys. And he was like, I'm out. I'm absolutely-- That is incredible. I actually have full body chills, because that's-- I'm so glad because I was a little embarrassed to tell the story about that. Oh, no. I mean, what's embarrassing is we just brandled up to do the jalamay. So I saw Timothy was eating near my apartment. And I was getting lunch there at the same time. You were walking home. I was walking home. Whatever. I thought you saw-- That sounds incredible. No, no, no. I was walking home. And I was going to Elon to the same place. He was sitting outside. And-- Who was he with? His mom. His mom. And that was really sweet. And so I was like, all right, well, I'm not going to say anything. He's having a nice lunch with his mom. Right before that on the subway, a listener of ours stopped me to be like, I'm such a big fan. I was sitting there the whole time, like, please walk by again. We were sitting outside, like, please walk by. That didn't happen. So then I texted-- We almost didn't have maybe no-- Yeah, so then I texted my friend who I knew was close by. And I was like, come by and act like a fan. And she was like, I'm getting a blowout right now. I can't do that, Ria. And I was like, come on. Come by and act like a fan. Yeah, I was like, come by. This is my favorite thing ever. I literally ate over to my best friend. And I said, I'm about to go look cool in front of hair. Yes. And he was like, you're a fucking mom. And I was like, see a loser. And I went inside. Did I even invite my friend to come in with me? No, I did not. Yeah, no. And I just-- You texted people to come and be a fan. Yeah, I am. And no one answered the call. No one arrived to the situation. No one answered the call. And I just wonder if the girl from the subways out there listening, going, damn, I missed walking by Timothy Schalemake. Because not only it is a deal, it's a deal. It's a deal. It's like, you could come do the whole thing. Again. And you get to see-- And Schalemake is here. And then I said nothing to him. But then when they were leaving, his mom knocked over the big canister of water. On your table? Very close. Not on our table, but it knocked down. And you could tell Timothy was like, oh god, your mom are embarrassing me. It was like a whole-- like, you could tell on his face. He was like, fuck, now we just drew attention to us. By the way, it was just me and my husband and Timothy and his mom. There's no one else eating there. Still embarrassing. Yeah, so he drops it. And he's about to go tell the waiters about what happened. And my husband looks over at them. I was like, don't worry. We'll tell them. Oh, good. Because we know the restaurant people. He was like, we'll tell them. Just go. Timothy says nothing. His mom, though, comes right up to the table. And she's like, what's how it is that? And I said, oh, it's the pair of salads. She goes, looks really good. I said, it is really good. You should get it next time. She was like, I'm gonna. And that was it. And Timothy is like this. Put on hat on. He's like, my mom's got the last shatter on the concrete. He's like, I can't believe my mom is talking to these people. Right now, please don't look at me. It was like, because then I thought, oh, maybe I'll say, because his mom's talking to us, maybe I'll just say something him quickly. Yeah. I did not get the vibe he wanted. You know, I think that's smart because when you do that, you think about this. Who is it for? Like, it's not, he's not gonna want that. You can tell clearly. Yeah, and then you get to say that I said hello and he wasn't annoyed. Yeah, and I notice that it's like, it's not a good story. I love it. It's not a good story. This is a way better story. And it's not like us where we get so pumped when people say hi to us. I'm like, yes, people know us. Like, Timothy's like, yeah, everybody knows me. I was unemployed for so long that like when people now are like, I love your show. I'm like, oh, hell yeah, like that feels great to me. Yeah. I'm also very lucky, not what. But like, to be at this like, coasty level where like, you know, people can't leave a house. That's shit sucks. Right. And I know that it's like the social narrative there is like, well, I don't feel bad for them. They're rich. And it's true. Yeah. Yeah. I don't feel bad for their bank account. Mm-hmm.
bad for anyone who can't leave their house. It's like so, I can't enjoy the sunshine and it's so hot. - I wanted Timothy, because it is a neighborhood spot. I wanted Timothy to feel comfortable coming back. - Yeah. - And also I was like, because maybe I'll see him again. I don't wanna draw. - The other thing is, if you're just like, oh, I love your stuff, man, then great. Then that's fine. He's not gonna, very likely not gonna be a dick. I think it's when people come up to me and they'll give you my this, that and the other and this isn't represented on the, and you're just like, well, you think I'm the vessel to receive that information. - Right, right. - And so I think that any time you wanna just tell someone you think they're dope, I think. - Yeah. - If the person isn't annoyed by that, they can kind of fuck off. - Yeah, right, yeah. - Timmy, do you mind if I run back to my apartment and grab my Marty's cream sweatshirts? You can sign it. - Yeah, yeah. - It's like a baby. Also, what is your name? - This is so annoying. - Noah, do you, have you ever seen a picture of Aaron Foster's husband? - No. - Simon Teakman. - Simon Teakman. - No, I had to go ahead and get that at Google. - Well, Noah, and you have never, you don't fucking see it. (laughing) Did you ever, did you ever put this together that Noah and Simon Teakman, like I would have, if I was walking on the street on the york, I would have seen Noah. - I would have seen it. - It would only be a double take. I wouldn't think he's him, but I'd be like, is that? Oh, no, it's not. - A little bit, a little bit. - I don't wanna get up. - We both have a beard, he's wearing hats in a lot of photos. - Yeah, like a Jew with a beard in a hat. - Yeah. - And you also have similar shaped features. - Yeah, I see it a little bit. - Okay, and she knows him in real life. So you would be like, maybe in person. - Yeah, like I, yeah, I just sat next to him at, we went to Miley, they got us Miley tickets. And it was fire at the bowl. - Yeah. - Have you ever seen a show at the Hollywood Bowl? - No. It's on the list. - It's a really special occasion. - So we're like the biggest Miley Cyrus fans. How was it? Because I feel like there was mixed. - Interesting, you know, it was great. It was fabulous. It was a much smaller show than anything she ever does. But first of all, I mean, she could sell out staples in the bowl for like 15,000 people. - Oh, sure. - She could sell out 100,000. - Yeah, yeah. - She wanted to do, she sang a dolly song. She cried. And it was just really, it was really special actually. I just got a little bit of chills. 'Cause she came from the back of the house and like walked through everybody and was like doing like touches and saying hi to everyone. And when she got to the stage, she was so overwhelmed. And she was like, you guys, I'm working on this. I just feel like way to like touched and looked at. And I'm having to like deal with my mental health a lot. And it just was like so gentle. And there was like no way to get out of that show without her smelling like an absolute rose. It just was like, oh, that's a real person. And yeah, yeah, okay. - Yeah, yeah. - No, it was really, she's so talented too. - She really is. - And I think she has a new song on this season. - I think I'm not, well, this comes out after, right? - Yes. - Okay, so I think she has two. - I think there's one in the show. - I saw her post on her story. - Okay, okay, okay. - I don't know what's out of my mouth. - I think she said, like, I think Aaron was teasing the new season. - Don't tease me. - Playless and was like, there's two Miley songs. - Okay, okay, great, yes. So there's a Miley song in the show. - Yes. - At an amazing, amazing moment. - Amazing. - And even if we're talking about this after, I don't wanna see that moment. - Yeah, yeah. - And then there's one on the soundtrack. That actually, she co, Miley co-wrote with my best friend, Ilsi, who is this amazing songwriter, Ilsi Juber, who I was in a band with. We were little songwriters together, like 20 more than that. Oh my God. A long time ago. - That's amazing. - And now she's killing and she's got songs on all the soundtracks. - That's amazing, full circle. I mean, I think that it's such a fun, the show's so fun for so many reasons, but the music really is fantastic. - Oh, the music, like the music is really so good. - That song that they released in the trailer last year. ♪ By my time ♪ - Yeah. - So long, my friend. That song's crazy. - Mm-hmm. - Yes. - Cassandra's me anyway. - Yeah, they're, they're so good. So that, that'll be out two of the whole season. That everyone can stream. - Yeah. - Nobody wants this season three. Now, Jackie, thank you so much for joining us. - Yeah, wait a minute, come on, American Idol. Just kidding. One when something just flat out makes her laugh. And one when she's laughing out of politeness. But there's one when she makes plans. One when she makes fun of herself. One when she's uncomfortable. And one when she's talking about her friends. Okay, that's Tofer Grace. And it's one of those like 2000s rom-com movies I feel like. I really doubt that I've seen this movie. It did not sound familiar. I don't feel like it's like, oh gosh. He's not. Fifteen seconds. We've seen that movie. I don't think that's him. That wouldn't be him. I don't think that would make sense. But I feel like that is Tofer Grace. Like the guy from that 72. I know who you're talking about. But I don't. Three seconds. Shoot. I can't recall the movie I've seen him in. Time is up. Nothing. We're gonna freeze. It is one day to be tattooed and Hamilton. That is the movie. I kind of was-- Because Josh Dremel steals the six smiles thing. Yeah. He said and then says it. But it really came from Tofer Grace. I kind of was rooting for them to say it. Just give it. Oh, I wasn't. Oh, okay. I was just like, just give the gas, you know? It's what a day was at able to have final answer. I was like, just give the gas. This was my biggest fear. It's a very sketchy way. You've learned, you've learned very early. Well, we have learned. Always, always say a guess. But we still, we have not learned. Hey, you guys, I don't know. Tofer Grace very quickly. Yeah, yeah. I thought it was that or he's just not that into you. Yes. I forget that he's in. That one too. Yes. Wait, Tofer Grace isn't. He's just not that into you. Oh, we're just thinking of Justin. Oh, sorry. He's not in that. Sorry. Justin. Yes. My bad. Um, okay. But Mary to Kate Bosworth. What a day with Adam. Yes. I was just. My brain was crossing its wires. Yeah. There's kind of like the same type of actor. Oh, there is no room for you here. Yeah. All right. Three, two. question number 11. This is crazy. I don't know if you guys have seen that is so funny. If you I don't know if you can see all of but we didn't have we before trivia we keep the dog bed upstairs because it takes up a lot of room and we didn't bring it down and she's like all. I don't have my dog bed and I can't sit on your lap. All right, all right. All right. Yeah. Yeah. Just a blob. Okay. All right. Three two. Re and friend question number 11 to re and French had a Haley from Leland North Carolina. In friends Phoebe thought she made out with Ralph Lauren. Fuck I'm pissed that I said it like that. Who did she really make up with? The facts. The male guy. The male guy. Final answer. Let's see if I need him. Okay, so it's a name somebody like that's at the store. No, I think she's right and who it is. It's just that the character has a name like Steve or something. I have no idea. I don't remember this at all. I remember the scene 10 seconds unless it's like.
I don't know if it's, you can't say if you're looking for a name or not, Kenny-O? No, but time is up, unfortunately. Okay, wouldn't get anyone's. It's a copy machine guy? So yeah, I was gonna take either, well his name is Kenny, the copy guy, but I was gonna, I would have taken Kenny and I would have taken the copy guy. Copy guy, right, right, right, right. I should have said the copy guy, right, the male guy. Fuck. Okay, it is still three, two, Rian Kran, question number 12, two, Emily and Karin, Shadow Ali from Rhode Island. And how I met your mother, what event do they go to in hopes of seeing the band that they want to hire for Lillian Marshall's wedding? It's like, I watched this like 10 years ago, I never watched it. Maybe like, like a kid's birthday or something? Yeah, like something like that that would be like weird for them to be at. Yeah, I would say, yeah, we can go with that. That's fine. Yeah, about Mitzvah final answer, I go to prom final answer. Correct. Nice. Final answer. Pretty close. Another weird event for them to be at. Okay, four, two, Rian Kran, this is question number 13 to them, shout out, Macy. Which Kesha song ends with her saying, "I like your beard"? I like your beard, fuck what the fuck is that? Name a, I don't know why the only thing, the only Kesha song I get to think of right now is "Animals", which is like, I don't think it's that, but what about this place, about to blow? 15 seconds. I like your beard. No, it's something else. It's one of her slower ones, I think. Oh, shit. Three seconds. I'm just gonna guess "Animals" final answer. Correct. Your love is my drug. Yeah. That was really, yeah, it's correct, that was really in sync, right? Yes. I always forget about this one, it's a good song. That 20-year friendship. Yeah, yeah. Okay, fourth three, we got two questions left, and this is two Emily and Karin, shout out, Natalie from Rhode Island. In 2010, Selena Gomez launched a clothing line at Kmart. What was it called? I wonder if it had something new with one of the songs at that time, like, like, naturally, or something? Like, I don't know. We never had a Kmart around us, I don't think that's a bad guess. I'm trying to think if there's anything else, I don't know, naturally, finally, answer. What year was this? 2010. Oh, man. It's like the scene. I got no clue. That's a good guess. Alright, the scene, final answer. Incorrect. Dream out loud. Oh, no. Nope. You weren't wearing that? No. We missed that. That collection. You guys go to Kmart back in the day. There wasn't really one close to me. Yeah, I don't remember a Kmart close to me. I'd go to Coles. Coles was popping. Yeah, Marshalls. Coles all around. Yeah. Coles, Marshalls. Yeah. Alright, question number 15, final question. Reinferring can end it here, where we could go over time possibly. Shout out, "Reefer, New Jersey." What was the name of Dean's signature dance move on the Jersey Shore? Jersey Turnpike. Final answer. Correct. Walk off. That was a good answer. That's a good answer. Next question. Cranceloni. Wow. The chicks are going in the world series. Five, three, final score. That was a good game. Yeah, it was great game. That was a good game of tennis right there. That was the way the cookie crumbles for you to get a Jersey turnpike. Yeah. Classic. Very classic. Thank you guys so much for playing. Can you do it? Do you know the dance? Of course I mean, we're going to do it right now because we're going to be in the pool. Yeah, but I'm not going to do it here. You've seen me do it before. We've seen you're doing plenty of dance. Yeah. Alright, thank you guys so much for playing. And thank you for coming to our live show. We hope to be back in the next club as soon. Thank you so much. That's a good time. Thank you guys. And then let me know your addresses and we'll see you somewhere. Yes. Bye. Bye. Thanks. That wraps up today's episode of "Ticks in the Office." Thank you so much for watching and listening. We hope you have an amazing fall weekend. I mean, go out there and enjoy that beautiful weather. Enjoy everybody. Enjoy everyone. We love you so much. We'll talk to you on Monday. Yeah. "Ticks in the Office." A long time listener. First time caller. Uh-oh. Look at the charts. Who does the best? Two chicks getting paid in reality checks. You can find them at the gym. It's not even a flex. Last minute, right? Carpet. Flew them out on the jet. Yeah. They're who you want to be. They're always on your screen. Two queens. And they might be spilling royalty. A lot of topics that are popping here to get into. I know a show that you probably want to listen to. Who turned the heat up? Turn the beat up. Record the pod. Made a bag with their feet up. The ones that leave no crumbs when they clean up. Who's the pod that they all want to meet up? Who's the pod that they all want to meet up?
